Understanding Lennon McCartney Rewatch Part 2.3

Yoko, you're hilarious. Sirens going off in her brain. “Alert! They're into childhood bedroom crush confessions territory. Redirect! Redirect!”

But also I find them so ridiculous. All the men in this. Is it just a case of men always assuming women are talking more than they are? Because I am definitely not hearing Yoko talking for John here. Or is this a rare case?

Paul’s scouse getting progressively thicker as the argument intensifies. Trying to finish his point as John's interrupting him. “But. Bot! Boot!! I do think –”Ugh it's so sexy. Sorry, anyway.

Paul's pep talk to John is super cute, but what does he mean, exactly? “we would actually all have dug to see you kick that telephone box in.” What is this metaphor? What does he want John to break? Or does he just mean John should act out more?

Okay but in this interview, she's definitely doing 90% of the talking even when the interviewer specifically asks just John. So if that's how they are in meetings or whatever then okay I could see that being frustrating.

Ow. Fuck. Hate that moment.

John: another Lennon/McCartney original entitled “All I Want is You”. Paul: Allan Wanna Too . . . Al Aronovitz. John: Al Aronovitz if you'll Aronovitz. We'll both Aronovitz together. Ugh sometimes you can just hear the voices in their heads being like “no don't tell him you like his song, that's pathetic! God, you're such a loser for even thinking it.” And sometimes . . . It's this. There's no in between.

John knows if Paul's singing “Darling” he's talking to him. Look at his expression as he's watching Paul sing “stand by me Darling, Darling.”

“Dig it” is actually insane. Paul: if you want it, you can get it. You can get it if you can dig it up. John: I can hardly keep my hands still. John: if you want it all you gotta do is ask for it. Paul: (intermittent with John, starts a crescendo of “yeah. Yeah! Yeah! YEAH!” and “want it. Want it. Want it. Want it.”) John continues: Nicely. Say pretty please and you're gonna get it. You're gonna get it alright, you're gonna get it. This time you're gonna get it good!

The looks as they're making fun of something important to him. Poor George.

See and here's the thing. If George knows basically what happened in India (which from this quote that's what I'm deducing) then Paul knows. You know?

Okay you know the “I love you, blue” moment from Get Back? I was feeling so devastated for John that there was no response to that and someone very smart pointed out in the tags that this moment could be interpreted as Paul's coded reply which I think is a lovely idea. And seems legit especially since John responds with song lyrics.

Paul: no that's good, that one. John: okay, tick it. Paul: I Love that one. John: thank you. Paul: I really do. John: I enjoy it too sometimes.

Peter Jackson why didn't you include these bits in your film? Huh? Huh? Was it because it was too homosexuality for you?

John's voice singing “you can imitate anyone you know” over teeny clips of Paul doing about fifty different impressions. It's so phenomenal.

John's “pleeeeeheeeease” actually makes me want to cry. He's begging with everything he's got. It's like he's a baby, really truly, and it physically hurts. If I was the one he was talking to in that song, I don't know if I could survive.

But Paul is sure. They're stuck. He can't give John what he wants.

Yoko tries to give John a kiss and he's so harsh. “Stop it!” If my boy ever talked to me like that . . . Let's just say I wouldn't be sitting with him at work anymore.

And then he's laying with his head in her lap, laughing madly with Paul. See what I mean? If Paul would just let John lay in his lap, I guarantee Yoko would not be there.

A coded exchange PJ left out. You can tell when they start to talk in code just by their tone. Suddenly they're a bit more even-keeled, a bit slower, clearer in their speech. Paul: achieve something every day. It may in theory sound silly, but . . . John: in practice . . . Paul: it's even sillier. But in practice, it's all there is. John: this is where it's at. Paul: this is where it's at unless that is where it's at. John: this is where it's at now. Paul: teamwork. A good defense. John: you play ball with me and I'll play ball with you. Paul: could be learning something instead of this you know.

There's a reason Let it Be is played at funerals, folks.

Is it just me or has Paul literally never looked uglier? Linda's a babe, though. John and Yoko both look cool and hot ASF.

Again, the song choices. “Goodbye (Paul's Version. From the Vault.)” Played over the double wedding footage? Okay. Goodbye, my love.

Hey, Doctor Doctor meaning

I made a song called Hey, Doctor Doctor, and it's blown up recently. Thing is, hundreds of people have left me comments confused about what the song means, so I decided to finally put the basic meaning in a text post. Here's a really good animation of the song!! So u can listen :)

I asked my friend a simple question 'bout the rain But then they all went quiet and looked at me in a funny way They asked me what I meant So I described the time I spent Avoiding all the puddles Though I still got wet

They said that morning had been a sunny day I asked the folks around us and they all said the same I sat confused, in my wet socks and shoes I shrugged and said "That's right! The sky wasn't gray, it was blue!"

Hey, Doctor Doctor is a simple metaphor about depression. People have also interpreted it as being about the neurodivergent experience and a bunch of other things, and those fit too. But I intended it to be about depression. It's about finding out the things you're struggling with aren't just something everyone deals with. The protagonist (I'll call 'em Pot) has to actively dodge puddles to get anywhere and lives in soggy clothes. When Pot goes "man, that rain's insane right?" to their friend, the friend has no clue what they're talking about. To everyone else, it's sunny outside. They don't have to think twice about where they step. At this point, Pot looks insane to everyone else, like they're hallucinating rain. So, even though their clothes are still dripping wet, they go "yeah haha my bad. you're right, it's sunny outside". In the end, Pot goes to see Doctor Doctor about it. You know in cartoons or that one Ronald McDonald ad where the sad person has the little rain cloud over them? That's the idea. It was raining outside one day and I thought "lmao what if only I could see this, that would be insane". Then I wrote a song about it. I totally see the neurodivergent spin on it, because the part where everyone looks at Pot weird definitely accidentally came from my experiences with diagnosed autism. Sometimes my relatable comedy landed: me: "you ever wake up and your brain feels like sludge?" friend: "yeah bro, all the time"

But sometimes my relatable comedy didn't land: me: "you ever walk across the street without looking when you're having a bad day, like gambling?" friend: "...no???" me: "you don't???" friend: "no?? are you okay??" me: friend: me: "I mean I haven't done that in a long time-" (literally did it last week) Ah, the joys of being neurodivergent. Never knowing what's appropriate to say. "Horrified looks from everyone in the room". If this explanation seems too detailed, I really thought this song was a simple metaphor, so I'm REALLY trying to be clear. Most people get it, but there's still hundreds that have been taking it literally. If you read this far, I'm shocked. Nobody ever uses comments on tumblr, but I'd love it if you commented "umbrella" and let me know you read down here. Thank u immensely for reading this far. Since I'm a very "the curtains are blue for a reason" kinda person, I want to talk about potential symbolism in the couches of Ai Nan Desu Yo and I Love You! Does that sound weird? Maybe it is, but I think it's kinda fun!

CW Suicide, unhealthy relationships

What first caught my eye is that the couch is (mostly) symmetrical, split right down the middle. Well, the pillows are symmetrical, not the... blanket? Yeah, blanket. Because it's symmetrical, it could be seen as a representation of Mahiru's relationship, with each side representing one of the lovers. Notice how it's yellow-orange, which can represent happiness and warmth, which fits.

[Ai Nan Desu Yo] Do you really think you know what love is? If you do, then let's just overheat together

What I then noticed is that the blanket thing is mostly on the left side (I'm using camera view for this post), which could be interpreted as meaning the partner on the left puts more effort into the relationship, 'gives more warmth'. Meaning the partner on the left would be Mahiru, who is implied to be showing way more affection than the boyfriend to the point of being overwhelming. For example, just looking at the size of the pieces of cake they give each other in I Love You.

And this idea of 'Mahiru to the left, boyfriend to the right' is corroborated because that's how they're shown sitting in I Love You.

... Well, the couch is slightly different. It's more detailed, possibly because I Love You gives a more realistic look at the complexities of their relationship (?), but it does seem like it's a reference, especially since the green pillows are still there.

Although the green pillows are tattered when we see them in the Purple Background Dimension (<- why is this series so hard to talk about). Could this imply they're actually a representation of the lovers? It feels like this makes sense. Pillows are often filled with feathers, which are an important aspect of these two's symbolism (they're both in the bird cage -> they're both birbs). And it also fits with the "calling" scene, sort of.

[Ai Nan Desu Yo] Ring ring, I'm calling you in the middle of the night Forcing you to wake up, and I say "Good Morning!" But I fall asleep before you, I really feel bad you know? We can both feel lonely sometimes, but wonder if you'll get angry soon I'm going to start relying on you if you're kind to me, so please forgive me, thanks!

We see her call her boyfriend while somewhat-tightly hugging the pillow which apparently represents him, and the lyrics imply she's calling at an inconvenient time. Mahiru has a lot of imagery of smothering and suffocating, as her love is too overwhelming for her boyfriend, which vaguely fits the first two images. In this case, she wants to talk to him at all times, which he likely doesn't appreciate, he gets angry with her being overbearing, they do what seems to be one of the "breakup rituals" mentioned in a later line. Still, she longingly holds onto the pillow, before breaking down when it's no longer in her hands. They always come back to each other, because they've probably become dangerously codependent (I think? <- My aromantic ass does not understand romantic relationships)

Does that sorta work? Maybe.

Then there's the scene where Mahiru jumps into the right side of the couch, possibly a representation of invading boundaries (again, overwhelming affection), and sends a bunch of feathers flying. The feathers are in the middle, because again, both the lovers are birds. And this makes sense, since Mahiru's love in a way was also hurting her by making her love someone who could not meet her emotional needs.

[I Love You] My love, it scored an own goal, destroyed my love and me with its weight

(Also, I swear I remember Mahiru hugging a pillow here, but no, she grabs air. Mandela effect, ig)

The final thing to note is that Mahiru is sleeping on the right side of the couch before her boyfriend's suicide in Ai Nan Desu Yo, but she goes to sleep on the left after the suicide in I Love You.

The former again possibly implying Mahiru's unwillingness to separate from her boyfriend, and her tendency to invade his boundaries, is part of what caused him to commit suicide. Meanwhile, the latter makes sense, as Mahiru is alone and thus has to stick to her side of the couch.

(I'm frankly not sure how this would work with the shinju theory, but to be fair Ai Nan Desu Yo's ending as a whole doesn't work perfectly with that theory anyways)

Uh... so it sorta works? If that's the case, we can look at the stuff around the couch to establish some further potential symbolism.

For one, the diamond pattern in the carpet. Diamonds in general represent love and all the aspects of healthy relationships, which doesn't seem like it should make sense until you realize most of Ai Nan shows an idealized version of the relationship, and the carpet isn't present in the more realistic I Love You. Though I have to disclaim I'm talking about diamond the gemstone, because the shape itself (lozenge) represents "a sown field and female fertility" which I don't think is exactly applicable. Mahiru and her boyfriend aren't farmers.

(As far as we know)

The phone could have really been on either side since it just represents communication, so it's probably on the right for the sake of the "calling" scene.

The potted plant on the left is something which needs taking care of to survive, which may represents Mahiru's unfulfilled desire for attention and matching love from her partner.

The lamp is odd because I can't tell where it's meant to be pointing, but thankfully it makes sense with all three possibilities. Since it's on the right, it may represent how much attention Mahiru is giving her boyfriend. But it seems pointed to the left, so it could represent Mahiru's desire for her boyfriend to pay attention to her. Or maybe it's pointing at the middle, because the video is focusing on the relationship. The beauty of symbolism is that, if something looks a bit odd, you can just make shit up as long as it doesn't contradict any of your other claims!

Anyways, am I onto something or am I going completely insane? Good question! But I wanted to share this so. Take care!

Do I know what he's saying? Not really. Do I think that he snaps? Yes. Absolutely. Probably something along the lines of take a deep breath and your fears/anxieties will disappear for a moment so you can enjoy here and now? Can't relate.

Just because it didn't work doesn't mean it's meaningless to me

I think the idea is cute. You don't have to hate your exes (and even if this is about old friends written with a romantic tone, same goes, just because you and a friend are not speaking anymore it doesn't mean your friendship was less valid).

I really like the meaning of this song bc I feel like it can be understood as both "you used to know me really well and you stopped trying" or as "you never bothered and always stuck to this super stereotyped, first look (headline) idea of me in your brain" and both situations it's always the other person fault so... yes. Growth. Not taking the blame.

10. Saturdays

Somethin' about the way The light catches the mirror in my brain It gives me shade

This is very poetic. Pretty words. Very deep on the introspective side again, how you see your actions reflected on your head.

11. Silver Tongues

I love all the things you know

It's been so hard to pick just one ;;__;; I love, love, love Silver Tongues so much. I adore the fact that there're songs in this album that are so clearly about platonic love and friendship and community and ♥… Okay, clearly I need to ramble about this song on a post of it's own. For me this is what love is about TALK TO ME FOR HOURS ABOUT SHOWS I HAVEN'T SEEN AND VIDEOGAMES I'LL NEVER PLAY AND YOUR FAVORITE SCIENTIFIC THEORY AND I'LL LISTEN. BECAUSE IT MAKES YOU HAPPY!

I think this is the time and place to admit I've never been high. Never tried dr*gs, not even we*d. So I don't think I get this song. I don't see what he sees. That being said, the lyricism is starting to grow on me. Floating or whatever.

I exercised inhuman levels of restrain by not posting the whole song. This line makes me so sad but it's also so easy to connect with.

Ain't this true for every part of life too?? When the feelings are negative they almost drown you, hurt you physically too, they're more intense.

omg nina yessssss thank you for asking! i've given this a lot of thought (while combing through my extremely extensive spotify playlist). i'm a huge parawhore so 2 out of 3 4 of these songs are songs by them (hehe)

9. a song that makes you happy

"still into you" by paramore. it just.. it reminds me of reminiscing that innocent feeling of "oh shit oh no, do i.. do i like them?!" before you descend into absolute chaos as you sort out your feelings and go "yeah, yeah, i think i do. shit." and then it's years later and that small little crush you've had has developed into a full-fledged relationship because you decided to take a chance—a loving, healthy one—and then you listen to this track and you think back on everything and you're kinda struck with how you feel exactly the same, if not more in love, and it makes you dance around the room. i sound so cheesy, gross. but it does make me smile! i kinda feel like it doesn't have to be interpreted as romantic either; could even apply to a really good friendship that has weathered the years with grace. i love it.

23. a song you think everybody should listen to

currently, i've been fixated on the song "about you" by the 1975 which, similarly to the first song, makes me think of both romantic love, and meaningful friendships that have stood the test of time. the song itself is so calming and nostalgic to me, and i'm obsessed with the part where a female singer (i'm not sure who) sings:

"there was something about you that now, i can't remember. it's the same damn thing that made my heart surrender. and i miss you on the train; i miss you in the morning. i never know what to think about"

makes you think, "how did we get here? what was it about you that drew me to you? it's been so long that i can't remember" and it makes you miss them, especially if you've lost contact, whether it's a friend or a partner, and.. i don't know, it makes me feel grateful and loved.

30. a song that reminds you of yourself

it's a tie between 2 songs for me. the first is "get free" by lana del rey. it sounds like.. a coming of age song. my favourite lyrics from it, that i relate to so much, are:

"this is my commitment; my modern manifesto. i'm doing this for all of us who never got the chance"

and

"sometimes it feels like i got a war on my mind. i wanna get off but i keep riding the ride. i never really noticed that i have to decide to play someone's game, or live my own life. but now i do"

the other song is "fake happy" by paramore for the very simple reason of how i've been learning to accept and navigate through my mental health condition with.. arguable success. but it's all good, i guess. my favourite lyrics:

"and if i go out tonight and dress up my fears, you think i look alright with these mascara tears? see, i'm gonna draw my lipstick wider than my mouth and if the lights are low they'll never see me frown"

hi!!! i have some milgram ocs of my own and im also very inspired by what u do(writing entire mv descriptions sounds. kinda hard) but i was wondering something!!

how do you decide on covers for the prisioners? like.... lyrics wise how you see that characger in that song that stuff sorry i cant word it well

and about the covers, when i try to find the songs that fit my ocs, i usually ask myself these questions:

is there a song that i can already associate them with? basically, sometimes you just look at your oc and go "OH I KNOW WHICH SONG I WANT TO GIVE YOU". like maybe it just fits them so well, you know that it would be perfect for them for one reason or another. i'll use kei as an example: like i just knew that vampire would be a perfect song for him. or riku and his ghost rule cover! this one doesn't always work though 😔

what would this character want to say to the audience? this one is harder to explain. so most of the time deco*27 covers don't actually have anything to do with the prisoners' crimes, backstories, sometimes even personalities. like they're usually assigned based on vibes or the seiyuu's voice, i think? i like to overthink things, however, so i usually assign them covers based on what they would want to say to their listeners. let's take kei as an example again. i could give him a song with a deeper meaning, but it just wouldn't be kei, at least not his t1 version. t1!kei wouldn't want to talk about his crime or his problems or anything like that! he would want to show his fun and flirty personality instead! (however, vampire actually does give a hint to his crime and what he's really like, it's like kei keeps proudly calling himself a vampire until he suddenly sings the "you're also a vampire" line)

so, if you already have a story in mind, i would suggest trying to slowly reveal different parts of your character's personality, backstory, crime, etc with their covers! this is also one of the reasons why i didn't go with the songs that i thought were perfect for some of my ocs, for example, i knew what non-deco*27 songs i want to give to shun and riku, but those songs would reveal way too much about their crimes and that would be too much information for season 1.

and if you feel like you can't find a song that describes their crime/backstory that well, that's totally fine! you can just go with the vibes then, which brings me to the third question.

would this cover sound good? if you already have voice headcanons for your ocs, that makes answering this question much easier, haha. sometimes you just have to listen to the song and imagine your oc singing it. do you think their voice fits this song? do you think they would do a good job if they sang it? it actually helps a lot! and if you think the instrumental doesn't fit their aesthetic or personality, the official covers also have different instrumentals, so you can just imagine them singing a different version of that song!

would this be a fun idea? don't forget to have fun when you try to find a fitting song for your oc! it doesn't always have to be a perfect song, you can just be self-indulgent and choose your favorite song, for example! or you can just pick it if you think the concept sounds cool.

also finding a good deco*27 song for your oc can actually be very hard, especially because almost all of his songs are about relationships and if your oc's crime/backstory doesn't have anything to do with that or they're just not interested in romance, friendships, etc.. yeah, it can be difficult. so i suggest trying to interpret the original song in a different way! for example, naomi isn't really that interested in romance and friendships and her crime doesn't have anything to do with that, which made finding a song for her very hard and for her t2 deco*27 cover, i picked a song that ~theoretically~ could describe her situation well.. except it's obviously a song about a romantic relationship. but i just knew that it would sound good as her cover and i really wanted her to get that song, so uh. i went "l-let's just pretend she's singing about hating that kid and her parents instead of. like. her ex or something" LIKE IT SOUNDS WEIRD I AGREE but sometimes you just really have to come up with a new meaning for those songs. (think like, amane getting animal. if we keep the original meaning, her getting that song doesn't make any sense, but if we think of it as her rebelling or something like that, it really could work) non-deco*27 covers are easier, since you can just go with any vocaloid song you find fitting!

DCLA SONGS THAT FITS FOR PRIDEMONTH

Note: Even if I have listened to Bia songs, I haven't analyzed them as much and therefore, I can't include them. If you know some Bia songs that fits for pride month, you're welcome to reblog and include them. The same goes for songs I forgot to mention from Violetta and SL.

So, let's begin!

Si es por amor - I mean, obviously. Not only does the music video give off... very not-straight vibes (and I have interacted with people who legit kind of realized their sexual orientation thanks to that mv!), but it's the lyrics too. It's about love - what you do for love, what kind of love you want... You get it!

Underneath it all - I have written a whole post about this before, and it's all in the lyrics. In "canon" we know what this song is about, but when we look at the lyrics on it's own... so much subtext! Hiding who you are, wanting to come out but finding it out, hoping that one day people will accept who you are "underneath it all"... just listen to the song! Every single line can be subtext if you want it to!

A rodar mi vida - This is only because it's Jim and Yam's favorite song and they are lesbians /hj But ok... this song has been used in the show, not only as a fun little tune they perform, but also as a literal love dedication from one girl to her "best friend". A song about how life just keeps rolling, rolling, rolling on, my love. I don't know where, but I don't think you know either. This does not HAVE to mean something queer, but none of the songs HAVE to mean that, so shut up.

Junto a ti - This song is about best friends and how they stick together with each other no matter what. It was written by a girl dedicated to her best friend - said best friend she had known for like 5 months at that point. Of course, it's often sung in a platonic way, but there has been times it has been used in more romantic ways - like the time Marco sang it to Francesca at the karaoke. Though really, if I am being honest, it's here because I'm a Franletta shipper and Fran wrote this for Vilu. So.

Claroscuro - A song about how someone isn't the perfect person people think - they're poisonous, bad, there is only darkness. Could be interpreted as someone having a bad coming out and singing about how they weren’t the perfect person people expected them to be. At the same time, they are proud of it. ”Yeah, i’m the darkness, i’m bad, i’m out of control. That’s me!”

Yes, I do - This is neither a Violetta or SL song really, but it’s a song that has been sung in both shows (and I do listen to Yam's cover on Spotify a lot) so it’s def a DCLA song u know. It's a love song, and you can sing it to anyone who you love. Also every time Yam sang it in SL, which was like 2-3 times, all the girls in the room melted. So. Queer vibez.

Soy mi mejor momento - This is my best moment! The song is about growing up, becoming an adult. It can also work as a sort of coming out song :)

Catch me if you can - This one's kind of interesting, because it can be interpreted in many ways. For this, we can interpret it as someone who wasn't themselves and needed help by someone who was their parachute and let them out of the dark. Basically a "thanks to you, I found myself". There's also the part with "maybe I should hit the ground, maybe I misspelled a bound, but i'm not afraid at all" - the singer is scared that, perhaps they should just forget about coming out or showing their true self, but they aren't afraid to show who they are. And with the person they love, they can accomplish anything.

Entre dos mundos - Come on. How is this not about bisexuality. It's a very underrated song and sometimes I forget it exists, but the SUBTEXT of that song. Mwah.

Valiente - I feel like it's a power anthem, you know? "You're brave", "You will grow", etc. Perfect song to sing in Pride month to give people some confidence and power boosts.

Como me ves - The song feels very much like someone coming out to themselves. It's about the reflection talking to itself. "I can be how I want, how do you see me?", "I'll come out of your mirror, your voice that in the distance found me, words that wrap up my heart". Why is most of Ámbar's solo songs like this lmao

Codigo Amistad - "But this is about friendship, it's in the title" Yes - it's about female friendships to be exact, but 1. This is my favorite song not only from Violetta but like in general. Like this is the song you need to play to save me from Vecna's curse. And 2. I say it's a bi anthem. Why? Well, it's about the planet of the girls - the girls in the song have the key and code to get there, and one topic they discuss at the planet exclusively for girls is boys. So it's GIRL POWER but also, boys are a topic. Maybe it's a bad explanation but MY FAVORITE SONG so MY RULES

Peligrosamente bellas - The girls. Singing about how hot they are. Luty's anthem. Have to include it.

On Beat - No this absolutely have nothing to do with anything, it's just that 11yo me got a bi awakening from the performance so now I have to include it.

Chicas asi - Idk girl power. Queens singing about how they are diamonds. I think it fits.

Enceder nuestra luz - ABBA-inspired girl power song! We need to turn on our light! This one is hard to explain why it's on the list, it just... is. It's the vibes. Also Francesca's wink she did at one point... just... <33

Yo soy asi - I AM LIKE THIS. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN TOO BAD. This is really a "get used to it" attitude if we put it into a pride perspective.

Como Quieres - "How do you want me to love you?" Love song about how someone cannot be loved in the way they want to. Like they aren't accepted to being... themselves. Also, the 2x40 performance has the most bi energy ever, it has the bi colors in the background and everything.

Mano a mano - Honestly this doesn't really have much of a meaning, I just love the song and I wanted to include it

I've sat with the interpretation of the song as a sort of self-encouragement, and a rejection of the sort of dark thoughts that can come with depression and anxiety. But I also wanna look deeper into it, and the narrative it seems to be trying to tell with the actual characters of the Old Witch Sleep and the Good Man Grace. Though specifically, I think the line "'You don't have to be brilliant,' she says as she scrolls through the rolls that the millions of hollering hollow folk know how to play" is the one that trips me up the most. I've always seen it as a bit of an act of comparison to others who are in similar fields of work or creative communities, but I'm still just not really sure!

Bonus: Growing up, I truly thought this song was about two women getting together. Eight y/o me was like oh yeah this lady's singin bout this girl who she wants to be her King mhm. I think that gives Marella Vibes too to be fair.

But I think it also represents how she was never truly able to be a child. She did have some level of responsability in taking care of her mother, and I think that made her feel as though she needed to take care of herself.

Along with the fact that she's gossiping about everyone but herself! Marella keeps herself locked up tight and instead focuses on the people and the world around her.

Idk! I think this song represents her really well!!

“im next, let’s just go around the table,” johnny says looking at the others. “i’m a dom obviously”

6. Nothing - Bruno major : So hard to find Brock songs but this one represents him best to me from lyric to melody to vocals, it's a top one. He likes corny af songs and would sing this. 7. The only exception - Paramore : not me hearing this song since middle school and never being as much into it and now suddenly I'm overly invested. A fit for frown post season 3 finale AND although this song was meant to describe romantic love it's really vague enough to talk about love in general or feelings of attachment to others and i like this interpretation. so if fall out boy influences luke/bobby, what bands influence other pairings?

anon, i want you to know that i have been thinking about this - or really agonizing over it - since you sent it 8 days ago. i just really needed time to properly think about this (and also to stop listening to fall out boy on repeat so i could really do it justice)

now, not every song by these bands (which are all pop punk because i have a Favorite Genre okay) fits the pairing but i think the overall vibe of most of them probably does work (a little too well, maybe, idk) and i've picked out some specific examples to go along with them so... let's get into it.

first up, Alex and Luke.

for them, i've picked Taking Back Sunday. for me, it's the dueling vocals - the push and pull mixed with cutting lyrics that just remind me so much of Alex's sarcasm. it works well for Luke too because he's passionate and totally would say things in the heat of the moment that are just crushing. i just think TBS' overall sound really fits them in that sort of frenemies to lovers type of way.

the song that came to mind (or that really clicked in my head for them) is This Photograph Is Proof (I Know You Know) specifically for the line: "well it caught up and honestly the weight of my decisions were impossible to hold, but they were never yours"

i just can't help but imagine Luke having all of these hopes and dreams and NEEDING to do everything and anything he can to make them come true and Alex trying so hard to do whatever he can to help but there constantly being a struggle between them because Luke wants more than Alex can give.

next, Luke and Reggie.

it's totally ridiculous, but stay with me: Simple Plan. drag me all you want lol but i love Simple Plan and i think they're PERFECT for these idiots. setting aside some of their more emo songs (i'm looking at you, Untitled) there's such fun energy and absurdity to so many of their songs that it just SCREAMS Luke and Reggie to me.

like, take Addicted: "I'm trying to forget that I'm addicted to you, but I want it and I need it, I'm addicted to you" I JUST!!!

i think that their personalities together just lends itself to an absolute whirlwind of emotions and they both feel so strongly that they can't help but love with their whole hearts right off the bat. it's too much!!

now, Alex and Reggie.

for them, i think Jimmy Eat World fits best. i've been listening to them for years and they just always fill me with this sense of wonder for the world and like... i think Reggie does the same for Alex. because yeah, Reggie's a little naïve at times and Alex has to watch out for him more often than not but that's part of why they work so well together. Alex's anxiety and cynicism are balanced by Reggie's genuine appreciation and wonder for every little thing in the world.

the line that sticks out most for me is from Polaris: "I feel that when I'm old I'll look at you and know the world was beautiful"

Alex worries about everything all the time, it's just who he is. but with Reggie, sometimes he can take a step back, take a breath, and just appreciate the moment for what it is. Reggie just wants to show Alex that the world isn't always scary, and he's right there by his side when it is.

onto Bobby and Reggie.

personally, i think Paramore fits them to a T. specifically the album After Laughter, since i just see the music as Reggie and the lyrics as Bobby. it sounds so upbeat, so bouncy, so happy - but then you listen to the lyrics closely and you're like oh. oh, i'm sad.

but!!! it's so good!!! like this line in Pool: "when you kiss me I wish we could see what happens next, for a moment I could forget what happens in my head" just screams Bobby @ Reggie to me because I think Reggie would do the same sort of thing for Bobby that he would for Alex, only where Alex is anxious, Bobby is maybe a little on the depressed side of things. he's got a chip on his shoulder, and while that's really just my interpretation of him, i think that Reggie would go out of his way to just TRY and make him smile.

for Sunset Curve (because i'm skipping Alex/Bobby, i didn't come up with anything for them sorry), i'm picking my favorite band of all time. The Matches.

SPECIFICALLY their first album, E. Von Dahl Killed the Locals, but even more specifically, the song More Than Local Boys.

"we make noise, what else could we choose? we're gonna be more than local boys and shake shake shake the dust off these shoes"

i know The Matches never hit it big and there's a very large chance you have no idea who they are and wouldn't know this - but in the show when Luke talks about how Sunset Curve basically played anywhere and everywhere they could to get gigs - The Matches literally did that. they were outside of EVERY show in the Bay Area playing their songs, handing out flyers, doing anything they could to get their music out there. i just... there's no other band i would ever pick, bottom line. end of story.

ok this has gotten REALLY long and i apologize for that but let's do an honorable mention of Julie/Luke just for the hell of it. the band? Yellowcard. honestly, it all comes down to their song Only One.

SKZ songs I've listened to so far part one

I can foresee how long this thread can get, so buckle up

this is how I used to journal- since I'm not good at putting my feels into words, I often turn to songs for some help hehe. Maybe one day I'll create playlists with a post that explains why I added it hehe we'll see x)

so I present to you, SKZ songs and what and how much they mean to me part one

these 5 songs are really special to me cuz they're the first 5 songs I heard from skz TT3TT so I naturally also have the most to say about them

a major thanks in advance for the english subtitles and those vids where they put the lyrics on screen along with the english translations. I can't speak, read nor write korean so it really helped me in understanding the meaning of the songs better

also like omg, the amt of inspo I got from skz for my sims series HAHAHA I can't wait to come back from my hiatus and get to those parts where there's skz songs added weeee

Red Lights (Bang Chan and Hyunjin)

this song gave me so much inspo for my future sims series HAHAHA I love the darker tones they used for this song- and the lyrics can be easily interpreted into ANYTHING.

is the subject they're referring to a thing? a person? a job? heck, even a hobby?

it could be anything. And that's what I love about it, and it's probably the reason why I listened to this song on repeat the longest.

when I first heard this song, I was either studying or working on my sims story. At first I thought it was just really catchy (since I don't really know what the song is about yet entirely) So like what I do with any other kpop songs, I search up the meaning (just nice their music videos have english translations hehe)

and BOY when i saw the translations HAHAHA OMG.

Sometimes I feel like the song is a conversation between you and that subject you're obsessed over. Because tbh if my hobby could talk, it would probably say this-

"Tell me you hate me. "I can't handle you anymore". But I know, you and me, there's no other way."

I guess for me it's the relationship I had with my storytelling hobby in sims. It pretty much consumed almost all of my time ever since I started. If I weren't working on poses or building lots, I was on insta interacting with other simmers. I love it, don't get me wrong, but my introvert self can only take so much socializing. Plus the weekly all nighters on fridays took a toll on my body too.

It has a sexy and rough tone to it but if you look deeper it could also be about that one thing you're obsessed with- for my case it was the sims HAHAHA. I usually spend my friday evenings making poses, taking screenies, editing until the next morning. I'll sleep for like, 3 hours and then get back at it before I do my other responsibilities.

So yeah, that's red lights to me for ya.

God's Menu

That line. That friggin line. I don't know how to explain it without going off in a rant.

There's also a point where my sims friends were all getting copied by other people. Hence why this line's impact is pretty strong

you'll hear me talking about this topic a lot throughout here, but just bits and pieces of it

"Just put everything in. Don't mind the other, put more. Don't hesitate, pour more. Mix, mix" "Yes, sir and ma'am"

I haven't really watched any of the behind the scenes so I'm not sure if they explained what they meant with this part but to me it's a form of encouragement to give something your all and don't care about what others would have to say.

Thunderous

Okay as I get to the songs I realized why I love them so much

it's a shoot back at the h8ers and naysayers in my life HAHAHAHA. It also gave me LOTS of ideas for my simseries

I realized after listening to this song a lot I was a bit more outspoken when it came to people in my life. The past few years I've just been quiet and to myself and even if people cross the line I would usually just smile it off

but lately I've been calling them out.

could it be I'm just reaching my limit? could it be I just want a change for once? either way I love it. I welcome this change.

I've been lately feeling the urge to change a lot of things in my life because I want to see improvements- or just something different tbh. Not tolerating unnecessary toxicity would be one of them.

I guess that also explains why I no longer talk to a lot of people I used to talk to HAHAHAHA.

"I was born crooked, my voice can go against a hundred. If I don't like something I can talk back until I'm satisfied."

That's the goal folks. I don't necessary want to talk back to everything that goes against me. Sometimes if it's better to just walk away that's what I'd do.

Cuz tbh not everything is worth your energy and effort. What we can get out of this line is... I guess knowing that you CAN fight back. And you WILL fight back until you're good.

But if I were to take it further with this line, you CAN fight back, and you WILL fight back until you're good- because it's worth it.

But if it ain't worth it then... HAH, CHEESE.

Cheese

tbh this whole song is an entire mood. I'd be quoting every line.

I love it. The vibe of the song, the attitude that comes along at the delivery of the song.

It makes you feel empowered in that weird way (at least to me)- especially with Thunderous.

in the current company I work in, I'm the youngest despite working here for 3 years already- you'd think every year someone younger would come along. there was once someone did, but they left because they hated the environment. I can't blame her tho, I would too HAHAHA.

So can you imagine being the generation gap? From the way I dress, the things I eat, the way I look the things that interest me

pretty much everything

I'd probably go deeper into it another time but one of the things that stuck with me the longest was how they constantly picked on how I look- I did competitive sports since I was a kid and I guess i got my mom's side's metabolism- which is super strong. So I had very little body fat, which also means I'm not gifted in the boob department :')

so guess what aside from being constantly told I'm stuff that I'm not, I'm also constantly teased and told to wear push up bras or even consider boob jobs just to fit what's good to them :)

I knew it's just trash speaking trash but overtime if you hear it almost everyday it can start to get to you :) For a while I found issues with things I didn't have issues with to begin with- like my body at that point.

if you search up Alexandra Trusova that's pretty much my body type when I came in HAHAH that's when I was still active in training, also keep in mind I'm 153cm. i was mostly muscle and very little fat. And I was only 20 then, where my metabolism is still on full speed. now at 23, I don't train at all anymore so naturally I gained a few kilos. I still pretty much look the same despite eating the same way I did back then- with hotpots and kbbqs from time to time.

ngl I did have this thought where "hmm i gained weight maybe they won't bother me anymore"

but they still do

So now I'm just... "HAH, CHEESE."

Their songs just speaks out everything I'm feeling perfectly like that's it. That's the whole tweet HAHA.

It doesn't bother anymore, thanks to 21 and a half year old Jeel who managed to talk herself out of that dark place.

tldr (sorry for blabbing, I got way too passionate there) words can hurt and sometimes people say hurtful things KNOWING it's not a good thing to say.

and there's nothing we can do anything about it, sadly- since we can't control other people's actions. It will hurt- like it did for me. and that's okay to acknowledge. tbh I only started making progress on making peace with it when I let myself really feel how it wants to feel about the situation- journalling helped on my end. having a rant page in my bujo helped. and then overtime, with the help of other songs I found that helps say out how I really feel, I slowly made peace with it.

AND OMG PLS THAT LINE WHERE THEY STARTED MENTIONING THE FINGERS HAHAHAH THAT'S A BIG FUCK YOU TO THE HATERS OUT THERE HAHAHAH

At first it kinda gave me the same vibes as "Dancing with a Wolf" by all time low, just a bit. Idk if it's because wolves are also mentioned. There's also "The Wolf" by the Simple Creatures. But after seeing the english translation not really- they're definitely not about the same stuff HAHAH.

Wolfgang, while it still have that line of eating you up, feels more like an anthem amongst your long-time friends. The kind of group you get your strength from in really dark friends.

the kind of people you'd want by your side against it all.

Wolfgang is pretty much dancing with a wolf and the edge of tonight combined for me. Like the sentiments I have for these songs especially.

this also makes really great camp cheer songs. Like imagine the camp theme was musicians and your team got Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart HAHAHAH.

imagine the campfire cheer for your group, it'll definitely win best cheer x)

but yeah, wolfgang- unlike the other songs, has a lighter meaning to me. it's one of those songs you'd jam to with your friends during a long drive. the kind your friends would sing and dance to during karaoke nights.

I mean I've never done that since my friends and I have different music tastes- to so my fellow stays who are close friends with fellow stays please live this dream for me and tell me all about it TT3TT HAHAHAH it's one of the reasons why i want to make a separate account for this

horror of our love - i’m not going to go into this one since i kinda already talked to you about it

campus - “it must be lonely knowing what you knowing” - because the twins may not know a lot about themselves, but a part of simply existing is being in shock of how it changes and how time is always moving, and with how time works for them i imagine the disconnect between society and themselves is so astounding that it gives them an unique perspective of humankind, yes they’ve been cut off, but they do need to integrate, to some extent, to pick their victims, so i decided at least

oleander - “if you leave me, rest assured it will kill me” [ also the fact that oleanders are these beautiful plants that are also pretty deadly i think fits, because thy can make themselves appear unsuspecting [ if they want to appear and they’re pretty, if they’re presenting that way ] - i feel like this is very much the twins towards bruce because he had become such a big part of themselves, they literally gave him a part of them now, and while he may not have liked it i think it was a big show of dedication. a way of saying they don’t mind hurting for him they’ll even go as far as to do it themselves.

hollow - “i’m ill with all that i know, cause it show what little i know” - this bruce because he is a very curious person by nature, he naturally seeks to find answer for him problems, and these problems don’t have answers, but he knows so much at the same time that it probably drives him mad being able to taste the knowledge yeah not devour it

volatile times - “look at me, what have i become i am lost i was once a gentleman” - i think this is bruce reflecting on the twins, and their effect on his life, how he had the potential to be a normal kid with the silver spoon, how he had a taste of that once upon a time but he became batman, and while he knows it wasn’t only because of the twins, he is pretty sure if they didn’t exist, if he wasn’t made to balance them out, then he wouldn’t be batman. he wouldn’t be some rich boy playing dress up and punching people in the middle of the night, he would host party, and laughing as he sipped champagne

under my skin - there’s no lyric in here that screams it’s just the general idea, kinda like unwanted animal, but it’s like “i can fit two people under my skin” and that just reminds me of this line [ i’m not sure if it was in one of your stories or if i read it somewhere else and it reminded me of it, so i apologize ] it was saying how one of the twins want to break open bruce’s ribcage to and be absorbed into him and taunt him from the inside and how they’ll never be parted then, and i just vibe with the twins being like that and i don’t know who is even speaking because i think there’s a merge ce of all of them mirroring one another, well bruce mirroring the twins and vise versa because the twins are still quite guarded but they are opening up quite a bit as the story progresses.

like lovers do - “Getting you off is my new favourite hobby, lipstick on your neck brands like a tattoo” and “I see you watching me, eyes on your target” this song reminds me a lot of when the twins found party boy bruce, [ the next two are also going to be written shittily ]

animal impulses - this one is just the overall vibe of the song v. andy particular lyrics, the song being about repressing and being controlled by your instincts basically and i think that vibes with this

baby you're a haunted house - “i’ll be the only one who likes the things you do, i’ll be the ghost inside your head when we are through” this reminds me a lot of the twins to each other, because they are alone, but their alone together and even if that doesn’t always feel like enough to be without the other would be unbearable and the next lines are “Sometimes you scare me, but I come around to you, I'll say hello hello hello hello, And I'll find a way to scare you too” which i believe to represent bruce to them because he’s had such unique reactions to them, and by he way he treats them is so… gentle and i don’t believe them to have ever been exposed to that previously and so Bruce hold a price of their heart in such a terrifying way.

unwanted animal - there’s so much in this song that i can’t pinpoint any exact lyrics that i associate with anything in particular [ the one that hooked me was “you touch my skin peels off like paint” but there a wild desperateness to the singing that i like fits them well. the comparison to animals i like for the twins, because they are savage and ruled mainly by their id they want something they take it, and i’m not looking at the lyrics right now, and i’m so bad at actually /listening/ to songs, but the whole song it feel like the singers are both fighting and working together and it’s just this dynamic that i think fits my interpretation of your series i guess heheh

this is love - there’s a lot of small lines that i think reflect the story well, “you done nothing to get out of the pattern of pain washed away by the rain” [ this reminds me of the underground tunnels being at risk of flooding and Bruce being like welp, gotta try ] “but i just love to pick a fight” [ the twins finding fighting as a valid means of flirting ] “once you chase me down the hole” [ the twins as bruce comes following after the twins ]

foreigners god - “she feels no safety in my arms” stanza vv bruce being on edge around the twins this is the twins because i think they all know none of them could truly intentionally maim one another, they’ll play at fighting, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t ready to fight for each other. each knows logically that they are safe, that past experience dictates that trust in personal safety has been earned, yet it's impossible to relax around one another yet, after so long of being on edge it seems impossible to fully step away.

bitter and sick - “break me down i’ll let you ruin my day flow through my veins” “i need a fix bitter and sick, sicker than love” - the first one is the twins to bruce and the second is bruce to the twins. in the first the twins are basically saying that they’ve lived one way for some long, existed alone together and never changing their ways, but now that bruce is here they are willing to adapt to make him fit into their lives. they’ve killed less because they’re not as hungry, they could still eat and the desire to hunt is still there, but with the knowledge that bruce doesn’t actually like it they can step back, allow him to save a few lives they learned gentleness for him. the second one is bruce’s addiction towards them. how his mind is never far from them, even when they sleep because he hates that he feel this way, he knows its wrong and it floods him with guilt, but he also can’t leave them, because he knows them now, had tasted their flesh on his tongue and while that would’ve not been his preferred union it was a union nonetheless, one he can’t ignore or suppress anymore

an unhealthy obsession - this is so self explanatory and in the words of john mulaney, “and i am lazy by nature”

My views on ‘The Untamed 陈情令’

I never thought I would write a review on a drama although I have watched a lot of dramas of different genres for about 15/16 years. There is something about ‘The Untamed’ that made me want to write a review or at least write out my feelings. I’m not going to write too deep and get into all the details. But I guess this could be a way for me to get out of this trap or try to get it off my chest.

I’m not a fan of the original novel (well, not yet) as I don’t like reading so I haven’t read it yet. However, I have decided to read it as I have finished the drama and couldn’t get over it no matter how much I want to escape from it.

Trust me, I don’t usually get THIS attached to a drama or any characters, I mean yeah, the casts are handsome and all, but I stayed for the plot and the characters, not just the good looks of those actors. Especially if it’s 50 episodes long, I wouldn’t stay for someone’s visuals like I ain’t got time for that – I can just watch the cuts of that actor lol. I’m quite picky because I have seen A LOT of dramas, if I watch 2 episodes and it bores me then bye and I don't like long dramas. But after the 50 episodes, I felt so empty like I wanted more??? I know that's normal since I have experienced that before but this time was slightly different.

I personally think everyone portrayed their characters very well, despite most of them are young actors/ actresses. I usually skip or play supporting characters’ parts in 1.5 speed if they’re not as interesting as the main characters. But they kept me riveted throughout the entire drama, I didn’t skip one bit. Most characters hit me at some point during the drama, and I loved it (while shedding buckets of tears haha).

Apart from WWX and LWJ, my FAVORITE character is Jiang Yan Li - notice how I capitalized the word and it's in bold, that’s how much I loved her. She’s the best shijie/ sister that anyone could ask for. I feel like she’s WWX’s half mother, she takes care of him. She is a gentle and polite woman. She isn’t powerful in the Cultivation World (she mainly just focused on cooking tbh lol it's cute tho) but she doesn’t hesitate to protect WWX. She stood up for him even in front of her future mother-in-law, she trusted him until the end even when everyone went against him, and when her parents got killed, she didn’t blame him (it wasn’t his fault anyway) and eventually sacrificed her life for him. Her death was just so tragic like I was bawling my eyes out, she didn’t deserve it, she really didn’t. She was just a simple girl that wanted the best for her family. But she is the last straw that broke the camel’s back aka WWX, if she didn’t die for him, he probably wouldn’t get out of control. It was so cruel to WWX but I kind of understand why the author did it.

I also enjoyed the cinematography, scenery and OST, all of it was so astounding. Even the name of the locations were beautiful like 云深不知处 – it sounds so poetic. I loved how each sect had their own colors which reflected their characteristics in the Cultivation World. The characters also had their own OST, my favorite ones are Wen Ning’s & Jiang Yan Li’s songs – it still hurts when I listen to them, and I nearly cried few times (yes, I have a soft spot for Wen Ning, too.) I want to add that Jiang Yan Li & Jin Zi Xuan's song hurts a lot as well, the lyrics are like a fucking knife stabbing me in the chest. I thought I was strong enough to watch the MV, but I couldn't control my tears gdi. You know when you're cutting onions and tears just streaming down your face, that's what happened to me - except there were no onions. *I was a fan of the singer when I was younger so watching him singing the song on the stage also took me back to the old days ah~ This song gave me double feels lol ;~;

A part of me regrets that I didn’t watch it last year but a part of me is thankful that I finally got to watch it this year. It was already a hot topic before it even aired in China, so of course I have heard about it and I know briefly what it is based on. But I didn’t want to jump on the bandwagon and be like I’m a huge fan of the drama just because it’s popular (it’s hard to explain but I’m quite stubborn sometimes lol). Many said that you wouldn’t understand the story or the little details in the drama if you haven’t read the novel (I watched the animation before the drama, so I know a bit of the story). I don’t like reading anyway so I didn’t bother with it. Also, the genre of the novel isn’t something that I would read so that’s another reason why I left it. I’m not against any type of love, I just feel a bit iffy about reading it, which is kind of stupid now that I think about it lol. Another reason is that I don’t like depressing dramas, I used to watch a lot of those in my younger days, most of the plots are quite cliche. Although 'The Untamed' is sad, there were sweet, happy moments and it has a happy ending, so I loved it.

A lot of people didn’t like the ending, but I think it was a good ending. I mean they can’t really do much as they have to pass the censorship. My interpretation of the ending is that LWJ went to sort out everything in the Cultivation World so that he could be with (or protect) WWX later. He found WWX (maybe a few years) later and called WWX’s name. In that scene, WWX’s black outfit is different to when they parted, so it can’t be LWJ came back to WWX right after they went separate ways – that would very irresponsible to do since he is the Chief Cultivator. It’s an open-ended ending, so it’s up to the audience’s imagination, you can interpret it however you like. The camera didn’t show LWJ at the end so it could also be WWX imagined that LWJ called his name. But I believe that they got together, you can just tell just by looking at WWX’s facial expressions. It isn’t that difficult to figure it out, the novel has a happy ending so yeah. I also read it somewhere that when LWJ went to meet up with WWX, he also changed his outfit but apparently that part didn't pass the censorship (wtf?) so maybe that's why they didn't show LWJ at the end.

I guess the good thing is that I can’t get all the related merch, if I watched it last year, I would definitely ask one of my relatives to buy and send everything over for me lmao goodbye my money. But I would buy the physical novel when I get the chance. If a drama left a big impact on me, I would buy the novel (if it has one of course).

I think I need a long cool-off period after this drama, I don’t want to watch anything else except their bts, interviews (even supporting actors’ interviews, I usually don’t watch those), crack videos lol, variety shows, fan meeting – basically everything that I can find, I don't think I have watched everything though. When I watched a cut of the cast saying goodbye to their characters on the fan meeting, I cried again (ffs just get over it). It’s definitely one of the best dramas I’ve ever watched and would definitely recommend to those who likes Chinese dramas. Not that anyone cares, but I would rate it 9/10 (if shijie was alive, I would give another 0.5 lol). I don’t know how good the subtitles are, but I did see some odd bits here and there (I watched it without the English subtitles). Sometimes it’s really hard to translate Chinese especially when it’s a xianxia drama – making it even more difficult. Anyway, if I get to finish reading the novel, I might write my views on the novel if I can be bothered lol – I’m a very lazy person XD

I kind of want to write another post just about WWX and LWJ, and how good Xiao Zhan & Yibo’s acting skills were. Basically, complimenting them for 2 pages haha. Ngl, I did fell for Xiao Zhan. I might watch it again just to focus on them a bit more. From the interviews I have seen, Xiao Zhan seems like a very humble, kind, genuine person – you can just tell from his eyes. He’s definitely a treasure boy (硬翻'宝藏男孩'). I don’t think I need to say much about Yibo, he’s super talented, I was already a fan of UNIQ when they were active. The character really suited Yibo and he did a great job portraying LWJ.

Anyway, it’s time for me to say goodbye to 'The Untamed', I don’t know how long I will feel attached to this drama but hopefully there’s another masterpiece that could help me to get over it.
