#like it goes back to the problem of how jason is not really allowed to engage with his community at all

I really like your thoughts on utrh but wrt killing dealers, I don't really wanna defend winnick because had some very gross writing choices in utrh, but Jason wasn't really just trying to kill dealers? He was replacing them with his own (onyx meets some of his guys, even). Which is its whole own thing about why winnick thought robin jason would've wanted that but I don't think we're meant to read it as Jason wanting to kill street dealers for being dealers. Obviously there's the no dealing to kids part but I always assumed Winnick just didn't have any idea how to else communicate his idea that Jason still had his own internal reasons for this that weren't just power/revenge.
bc the people jason is doing away with, in part, are no different from his own father- I can see this as critique of later Jason stories but it isn't really present in UTRH. Jason tries to take over the trade he doesn't kill all the dealers. He recruits all of Black Masks crew and lets people do all sorts of crime from drugs to racketeering. He gives criminals protection and seems to use violence against those that refuse to join, sell to kids, or attack him.
these are two separate asks but i'm combining them bc they're striking at the same subject material, so i hope that's okay!
ig i should rectify some of my wording. to me the central issue with jason's ideology and methodology re: killing dealers (or whoever he pleases, really) is the fact that he actively renders people expendable with no forethought as to whether they are leading lives outside of what they do or don't do for him. his analysis of people begins and ends with their actions in front of him. they're vessels of the trade more than they are actual people, which is precisely what willis's death struck at. willis was nothing more than a cog in the machine to two-face. willis as a person, willis as a father, none of that mattered. it's the hypocrisy of jason allegedly caring for a community and its betterment while nonetheless emotionally detaching himself from anyone material within it that feels dissonant to me. he may replace the dealers with new ones, but ultimately, they are as expendable to jason dependent on their actions as anyone else would be. the whole of gotham is labeled inherently evil by him and that may be something we can attribute to his overall trauma-response and rage but i generally feel like it's a classist approach to take. esp for someone who grew up in a presumably rougher part of gotham but was nonetheless happy where he was, with his family, bc he recognized their worth as people who were trying their best

so there exists this popular belief that the main source of conflict between jason and bruce is that jason needs bruce (his dad) and not batman. it is something that i agree with, but i don’t think the fanon reading takes into account how much jason himself is not aware of this dichotomy and conflict of interest (at least in canon.)
i don’t reckon he would personally be able to articulate it, because the main reason the conflict arises is that he can’t draw a line between batman and bruce. bruce is a father to him both as a civilian and in cowl, and let me tell you, this becomes a problem as early as in his robin days. i would even argue it’s what indirectly leads to his death. when bruce benches jason after the garzona fiasco, jay latches onto the idea that he has a biological mother that he can find, who will be a parent to him instead. that is because while he knows (or knew) that he was loved, for him being son to bruce and robin to batman is the same. in his mind, being benched is as good as being thrown out of the family. and it makes sense, because when you read the 80s run, you really see that the way batman treats robin in the field is nothing short of paternal still. he even calls him “jay” when they’re patrolling alone. all the times we see jason and bruce bonding, even if it’s some fun pastime like going to a museum or a baseball match, it’s also a part of some batman investigation. and if you look further back, bruce asked jason if he wanted to be robin even before he took him in, as batman, before even revealing his identity to him.
so it is completely to be expected that for jason, bruce’s responsibilities as a father, as batman, and as a civilian, are all in the same category. and it also explains why jason confronts him about it in mask himself. in jason’s understanding, it’s not that bruce failed as a father because of his commitment to batman. in jason’s pov batman failed as a father, the same as bruce did, because they’re obviously the same person, and if it’s his no kill rule that caused this failure, then for sure the whole philosophy is kinda shitty. cue developing a whole new code that allows you to kill people in order to protect people you care about. (and it goes without saying that jason cares about everyone, the bleeding heart that he is)
going back to the core of the problem, i think that also because of that, realistically, jason wouldn’t want a deal where bruce accepts him “as his father” or “as a civilian” while batman still actively denounces his methods. he needs acceptance from batman as much as he needs it from bruce wayne, because he doesn’t differentiate between them (for a good reason). he doesn’t understand that there’s any tension between bruce as a vigilante and as a parent. and i think it makes it even sadder because he’s not really able to rationalise it as neatly as meta interpretations do. for him all that is happening is his father rejecting him.

Flirting with Danger (Robin & Eddie & Steve snippet)
“Hey, Eddie? Why do you flirt with Steve so much?”
Eddie froze. Eddie was always in motion, so it was strange to see him still. Eddie thought he ran, but that wasn’t true. He deflected, he made himself larger than life, turned parts of himself that he was confident about into a target. Unless he was really, really afraid. Then he froze.
Robin understood his other habits. She babbled when she was nervous. She preferred being teased for talking too much or for being a klutz than the other things she was worried people noticed about her.
But Robin had never used outrageously flirting with Steve as a tactic. She’d made fun of him, sure, but it had been hilarious watching The Hair strike out with literally every single girl who’d ever walked into Scoops Ahoy.
What Eddie was doing was different.
Robin forged on, her mouth running ahead of her brain, as usual. “Cause, like, I get it. He’s pretty and all and he makes some really funny faces when you do that. But he doesn’t really reciprocate so I would have stopped by now if I were you, but who knows, I’ve never even been on a date so maybe my problem is that I give in early. Oh my god. Maybe you’re actually doing this right.”
Eddie raised his hands in a wide gesture. “Woah, Buckley, chill. And lower your voice.”
Robin looked around. They were still alone, the only ones in Steve’s living room. But she understood why Eddie was afraid of this conversation being overheard, even if she thought anyone with eyeballs must have realized he was hitting on Steve by now. Except maybe Mike Wheeler, who was blind to just about everything, and Dustin, who was still determined to set Steve up with either Robin or Nancy, and Lucas, who was still distracted with his girlfriend’s recovery.
Okay, maybe not everyone had noticed.
“Sorry,” Robin said. “But come on, you can tell me.”
Eddie looked around again, then leaned in dramatically. “Okay, this is going to sound stupid, but. I don’t know how well you knew Steve a few years ago.”
“Not well. We had Mrs. Click’s class together two years ago, but besides that our paths never really crossed.”
“Yeah,” Eddie said. “Well Steve and I didn’t exactly run in the same circles, but we ran in overlapping ones. I was a junior when he was a sophomore, and then we were seniors together. And I’ve been dealing to the basketball jocks for years, so I saw him around at parties and shit. And he was… very different than he is now.”
“You don’t have to tell me that Steve was an asshole. I know that.” Robin eyed Eddie, confused on what this had to do with all the flirting. Was Eddie just irresistibly into people who did hardcore self-improvement? “He knows that too, by the way.”
“I guess,” Eddie said. “I mean, he seems to. But that kind of evolution? It’s basically unbelievable, right. Like, if I wrote some DnD campaign where someone started out as a villain like that and turned into the hero, no one would buy it.”
Robin was taken aback.
Hold up. This wasn’t lovestruck gushing. The only person allowed to insult Steve like that was Robin. Maybe Dustin on a good day.
“He wasn’t a villain,” Robin said heatedly. “He was an asshole and an idiot, but he was no worse than every other jock who goes to our school and he was a hell of a lot better than a lot of them, even then.”
Eddie’s face turned dark. “You didn’t hear the shit he said.”
No, she hadn’t. She’d overheard sometimes, when he’d called some kid or another a freak or a nerd, but she’d had no reason to hang around Steve back when they’d both been in high school. She was thankful for that sometimes. She knew Steve was different now and that he regretted the things he’d said and done in the past. But it was easier to forgive him when she didn’t know exactly what he was guilty of.
“He can’t have been worse than Billy Hargrove. Or Jason Carver.”
Eddie scoffed. “Yeah, cause being better than Billy Hargrove or the guy who convinced the whole town I was in a satanic cult and then tried to murder me is a real selling point. What a high bar.”
He leaned in closer to her. “He was a bully, Robin. He made life awful for kids like me. Like those kids in there.” He jabbed a finger at the kitchen, where Steve was teaching The Party how to cook. “The nerds, the geeks, the outcasts, the queers. And I guess you and I and those kids are proof that he doesn’t care about the bullshit high school social hierarchy anymore. But there are some things people still hold against you out here in the real world.”
Robin scoffed. “So you’re trying to prove that Steve — Steve who fights monsters from another dimension off with a baseball bat and babysits a bunch of fifteen-year-old nerds — is still the guy you knew?” Robin fought to keep her volume down when she wanted to scream. “Cause Steve is the best person I know. He’s brave and selfless and so fucking kind, like good from the bottom of his soul, and he’s a little vain and a little slow but he isn’t anything worse than that. And fuck you for thinking that kind of thing about my best friend.”
Eddie shook his head slowly. “I’m not denying he’s good to you, Robin. But in this little group, our fucking lives depend on each other. So excuse me for trying to find out if he’s good to people like me.”
Robin only had time to blink before Eddie continued.
“I know flirting with him is insane and maybe a little suicidal. But I just want to know how far I can push him before he snaps. If he’s gonna say some shit or hit someone for acting queer, I’d rather it be me than W- one of those kids. And I’d rather know before I’m trusting him to have my back in a fight against a monster that preys on our fucking fears and traumas.”
Robin stared at Eddie for a long moment. She couldn’t believe that she and Steve had both been wrong. Eddie hadn’t been genuinely flirting with Steve, but he also hadn’t been using Steve as a safe option. Hell, Steve had been so far off it would have been laughable if it wasn’t so sad.
Robin remembered when she’d come out to Steve, stinking of vomit and high out of her mind and just as afraid as she’d been in the secret Russian bunker.
She understood why Eddie was afraid. She probably would have been too, if she didn’t know Steve like she did. If the drugs hadn’t loosened her tongue and allowed her to tell Steve a secret she’d never shared with anyone else.
There was only one thing she could think to do.
“Steve!” Robin called.
A moment later Steve came running through the doorway, a kitchen knife in his hand. He visibly relaxed when he saw that Robin and Eddie were just sitting on the couch and not being attacked by monsters from the Upside Down.
“Robin! How many times have we talked about this? If you just scream for me, I’m going to assume something is trying to eat you.”
Robin snorted. “You say that, but you called me in a panic when you ran out of hairspray before a date and you started with the words ‘Robin, this is an emergency. I need your help.’”
Steve dragged a hand over his mouth. “I- okay, I did. But-“
“Anyway,” Robin cut him off. “I wanted to tell you earlier, but all your little ducklings were crowded around you learning how to use a stove.”
“Tell me what?” Steve asked.
Robin grinned. She pulled a little slip of paper from her pocket and waved it out towards Steve. “Vickie’s digits.”
Steve’s eyebrows shot up in a slightly offensive look of shock. “Holy shit, Robin, you actually managed to get her number?”
He shot a glance at Eddie, probably wondering why Robin was choosing to have this conversation in front of Eddie Munson.
Robin ignored the look and smirked. “Vickie was complaining about how she hasn’t seen a movie in ages, since the mall burned down. I told her that I work at the video store and that my very platonic best friend has a giant tv we could borrow if she wanted the full experience. And that we could make popcorn and eat candy and do all the things teenagers are supposed to do in movie theaters. And she said ‘everything?” all suggestive and I almost died! And I told her everything, so I need to steal your house and I need you not to be in it.”
Steve sputtered. “You totally stole my line. Oh my god. You said you didn’t want my dating advice, and then you stole my exact pickup line! And my house!”
Robin rolled her eyes. “What’s yours is mine, Dingus. Even your cheesy pickup lines.”
Steve grinned, looking proud.
Robin beamed back at him. She loved that she could go to Steve, that he was her biggest cheerleader when it came to her love life. That he had never once, from the moment he had learned she was gay, made her feel strange or freakish or different for liking girls. She’d tested him, maybe, a little. In the beginning. When she’d started with innocuous little comments about Molly Ringwald looking generally pretty in the Breakfast Club or the cute girl at Family Video having a nice smile. Steve hadn’t blinked, which had given her the courage to say more, to comment on actress’s collarbones or chests or thighs, to talk about her crushes growing up, to call dibs on customers and be pleasantly surprised when Steve refused to flirt with the girls Robin had chosen, even if they were hopelessly straight and even if they flirted with him first.
Robin had never trusted anyone the way she trusted Steve, with every part of herself, knowing that there was nothing she could show him that would make him love her less.
Eddie was staring between them, dark eyes wide in shock and disbelief.
“Wait,” Eddie said, waving his arms wildly. He pointed at Robin. “You are a lesbian?”
Robin nodded. “Yep! 100% all into the ladies.”
She knew Eddie was safe. There had been rumors about him being gay for years and she’d just watched him spend the past several weeks flirting with Steve Harrington of all people. He’d all but just told her he was queer. But it was still terrifying. She’d only ever told Steve, and she’d been high on Russian truth serum then.
Robin’s heart was pounding so hard she could hear it in her ears. Her hands were trembling.
Steve, bless his head of beautiful hair, realized at that moment that Eddie hadn’t already known about Robin. He walked closer very quickly, putting himself between Robin and Eddie as best as he could while he was standing and they were both sitting on the couch.
It was a sweet gesture, especially from a man who had lost every fight he’d ever been in.
“And you,” Eddie said, swinging to point his finger at Steve, jabbing it into his stomach, “knew about this?”
Robin could only see the side of Steve’s face, but he was watching Eddie with a hard look. “If you have a problem, you and I can take this outside.”
Eddie’s jaw dropped. He looked from Steve, to Robin, then back to Steve.
Steve didn’t move.
“Holy shit,” Eddie said, more to himself than anything.
Steve tensed.
“I don’t have a problem,” Eddie said, leaning back against the couch in an artful slouch. He turned to look at Robin, trying to hide his wide-eyed surprise behind a casual look. “Damn Robin, good for you, finding love in the apocalypse. While the rest of us suffer the woes of portals to hell and the perils of monster attacks, you’ve actually gone and found yourself true love.”
Robin smiled. “Or a movie date. You know. One of the two.”
Steve was looking between the two of them, his brow furrowed in that adorable look of confusion that he got sometimes.
“I don’t understand anything that just happened here,” he said.
Robin snorted. She was about to tell Steve that he should mind his business when Eddie said, still in that fake-casual tone, “I’m gay.”
Steve blinked, his eyebrows raising slightly. He looked taken aback. “Um, yeah.” He glanced at Robin, then back to Eddie. “I know I’m not the sharpest bulb in the box, but I’m really good at reading people. Especially when they’re flirting. Flirting is my specialty. You were really obvious, man.”
Eddie’s dark eyes were wide as he watched Steve.
Steve pushed his hair back nervously. “Was I not supposed to know that?”
Slowly, a grin grew on Eddie’s face. “No, that makes sense. I was just making sure we were on the same page.”
Steve started frowning again. “About…? Oh. Wait. Is this- are you trying to ask me out? Because, I’m flattered dude, but I’m not- I mean. I like girls. A girl. Who doesn’t like me back, but, you know, the heart wants what it wants and all that shit.”
Eddie shot Robin an incredulous look. She gave him a close-lipped smile and a nod.
Yeah, dude. Her best friend was awesome.
“No, Steve,” Eddie said. “I’m not trying to ask you out. The last person I wanted to date got murdered by a super-powered psychopath right in front of me and it was quite traumatizing, so I think I’m taking a break from all that dating-slash-falling-in-love stuff for a while.”
Steve’s face scrunched up as he thought for a long moment. “Patrick?”
Robin snorted, feeling hopelessly fond.
Eddie looked stupefied. “Chrissy, Steve. Remember Chrissy? Who was beautiful and sweet and not actually trying to murder me for starting a cult?”
“But… Chrissy’s a girl?”
“I like both, man,” Eddie said.
“Oh,” Steve said. Then a second later, “That’s a thing?”
Eddie laughed. He had a look in his eye, like he still couldn’t quite believe Steve was taking this so well but he was grateful for every second of it.
“Like Bowie,” Robin tried to explain. “He likes both.”
Eddie snapped his fingers and pointed at Robin. “Exactly. Bowie’s metal as fuck.”
Steve looked like he was about to say something when Dustin’s voice came from the kitchen “Steve! Come tell Mike he’s doing it wrong!”
“I’m not doing it wrong! The pasta’s supposed to look like that.”
“No pasta is ever supposed to look like that,” Erica’s voice sounded loudly over the rest. “What? Just the facts!”
“My mom’s pasta looks like that.” That was Will.
Then Dustin again. “Thanks for proving my point, dude. Steve!”
Steve was smiling softly as the kids all roared for his approval.
“Go help your kids, Dingus,” Robin said. “And know that I’m not eating anything made by Mike or Dustin.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Steve said. “I’ll make you something else. Eddie?”
Eddie grinned. “Nah man, I’m with you. It’s our job to eat whatever the little shits made and pretend it’s good, right?”
Steve grimaced. “Yeah.”
He left, muttering about being the goddamn babysitter under his breath.
Robin turned to Eddie, eyebrows up, expectant.
“Alright, fine! I believe I owe the Lady my apologies,” Eddie said. “I didn’t mean to malign your best friend’s honor and besmirch his good name.”

Seeing how Kadoc reacts to the usual Chaldea weirdness is a big part of the reason I enjoy "what if (x) joined Chaldea" stuff because I like the idea of seeing how the other Crypters (except Beryl because fuck 'em) would handle being part of some of the wackier events in F/GO. I feel like Kirschtaria in particular would vibe REALLY well with a lot of the goofy stuff and get really into some of those events.
oops this got long, headcanons below
Kirschtaria is as close to a servant as a person can get with his goofy-ass attitude. he would be a regular recruit in hijinks. he is somehow a citizen of the servantverse. he can make problems but cant ever solve them. caenis and gordy take shifts watching kirschtaria to make sure he doesnt start some bullshit
Pepe would be similar but doesn't need a baby-sitting squad to make sure he stays out of trouble. side-line supporter, mom who brings the best snacks to the kids soccer game, seeking business opportunities in new singularities.
as relaxed as they would normally be, there will still be times when something happens and they cant help but release a "what the fuck" because of the absurdity/sudden mortality of the situation. in chaldea both become clingy of guda and mash- mash is of course their tortured kouhai they want to make amends with. the unfortunate kid who lost their everything, someone they want to protect. guda...guda is the below-average prodigy that pepe and kirschtaria want to test and observe. like watching a pumpkin toadlet jump and then fail to land.
beryl forceful reformation program. he isnt allowed near mash, any servant would begin to beat him up if he got close. he isnt allowed near guda, guda gets too pissed to concentrate. he is forced into buddist practices like eating once a day, sitting under a waterfall, prayer, and helping to do chores. the servants who watch him (saints, monks, pacifists, morgan, and lots of generals for some reason) swear he is showing moral improvements. if you see him in the hallway he beaten down by life.
ophelia is having much needed girl time. the one who is chilling the most after joining chaldea post-crypter career. a favorite among servants for her helpful and thoughtful attitude. doesnt cause trouble. is part of the kirschtaria task-force. is quite aloof towards guda because she feels guilty about turning her back on humanity. because she spends time with mash she inevitably spends time with guda, she tries not to make it awkward but she cant help it. despite being on the backburner, ophy is fiercely protective of this new chaldea. one time she gets really drunk (got carried away drinking w/ bryn) and cries in gudas lap about how sorry she is. her avoidant behavior improves after that and she gets roped into causing trouble.
we know that yu meiren becomes gudas (unwilling) servant and senpai. she becomes more fond of guda as time goes on, unsurprisingly. shocking everyone though, she becomes more friendly towards the other crypters. the relaxed and crass attitude she gives to guda gets transferred to everyone else. they are very surprised by this (she once called kirschtaria a doll-eyed fetus and he thought it was so funny he told everyone about it for like a week). taking on an older sister role, meiren becomes an unexpected source of solace for the crypters and eases the tensions between servants and crypter. her hubby takes it upon himself to keep an eye on beryl. she brags about how much beryl has improved under the watch of the most handsome man to ever exist
kadoc is another favorite among servants but for bullying purposes. he has a number of servants that just...enjoy bothering him. because of his attitude he also has some friends (jason, mandricardo, etc). complained about being weak too many times and was forced to join body-building club. like ophy he is awkward about his past betrayal but he gets over it pretty quickly. how does he get over it? great question, everything guda does annoys him. he made a point to publicly apologize to mash and da vinci. usually left out of causing problems but often gets roped into helping resolve them. has to tap out halfway because he cant cope. he is anastasia's stay at home wife.
some servants never warm up to the crypters- they are polite of course but guda is too much of a priority. for some servants its their protective nature, for others its natural caution. some of those servants include: moriarty (acts friendly. is not.), dantes (never interacts with them. always lurking around guda), oberon (doesnt like anyone), BB (acts friendly. is not.), morgan (doesnt trust like that), arjuna (doesnt trust like that), jalter (emo), kama (doesnt like anyone), abby (never interacts with them. always lurking around guda)

Sorry if you've already touched on this, but what are your thoughts about the discourse/discussion about Tim in the comics and Tim from the lens of A03/fan fiction?
For example, I hear a lot from old comic fans about how the series with Tim dating Bernard was doomed to fail bc 'the writer wrote him like her fanfiction version of Tim and not the real character'. There was a lot of discourse with canonical announcing Tim as queer, and that's kinda all these older comic book fans seem to keep coming back to. Idk, there just kinda seems to be an underlying feeling of misogyny towards the female writers and anti lgtbq vibes that it's hard to hear like a real arguement against the series.
I guess as a long time a03/Fandom person, I'm so used to just creating another little reality for the things I disagree or want to explore with a character, that it's strange to see people so upset that Canon doesn't flow the way the want.
it's no problem!! and i haven't really touched on the newer comics all that much mostly because i also don't particularly like them, not for any specific reason-they're decent enough but i don't really think they're 'tim'-but i do know what you're talking about. on twitter and tumblr i see a lot of different takes regarding tim and how he's written in this newer robin series.
for starters: i get what you're talking about where criticism of the comics might partly because of anti-lgbt attitude. especially since tim getting confirmed to be bisexual made A LOT of people mad (including ppl who arent homophobic but are mad that it wasn't THEIR favorite robin who got confirmed queer like dick, jason, or damian etc). comic bros and even casual comic fans who had never even heard of tim or even gave a shit about him were now furious. and while there might be ppl with genuine critiques- some of hatred of the way tim is written in the newer comics you really have to take it with a grain of salt because it very well could be comic bros hating because "robin isn't gay".
same with the writer, meghan fitzmartin. in general, women DO have an uphill battle when it comes to working in comics because it is very male dominated. and it's no secret that a lot of comic fans are opposed to women writing in comics. so misogyny, and even jealousy also plays a role with how much criticism is ACTUALLY warranted. but that doesn't mean a woman in comics isn't allowed to be criticized if they do a bad job or do a botched execution when their job is supposed to be making good, enjoyable, stories that do justice to the characters. i do think meghan may have some decentish ideas but whether she genuinely has the writing chops to deliver on those big ideas is well...iffy. but then again i genuinely don't keep tabs on comic writers or they're projects so maybe that will change.
when it comes to the critique of tim being written like a "fanfiction" version and not a "real" version of him i do see what they mean.
when I think of fanon tim I think of all the mischaracterizations that have been popularized. a coffee obsessed gremlin that doesn't sleep who is deeply insecure and agonizes over his place in the family, thinking he doesn't belong. people LIKE that tim is portrayed like that (in fanfiction) otherwise that characterization wouldn't be so pervasive in fics (there's also the possibility that a lot of ff writers DON'T know any better because many don't read comics but they do read fics and so they base their portrayals solely off what they read in fics resulting in this racoon eyed, coffee loving character who they believe to be an actual portrayal when it's really just someone's idea/exaggerated interpretation of tim).
i really don't see a lot of that in meghan's writing, the issues with tim's writing with her are different. if anything WFA is the one that really have the 'written as a ff character' vibe. but that series is also SUPPOSED to be deeply unserious as a fun slice of life universe where nothing goes wrong for anyone ever as a soothing balm for the oftentimes depressing stories in batman comics.
but in meghan's writing I also don't see a lot of what i consider to be core tim values. is she the best writer for tim? no i don't really think so. but there is a certain degree of understanding for his character. I see the comics and I can recognize that it's tim. so it's not offensively OC.
a lot of complaints seem to stem from his relationship with bernard being too much of a focus. people say how tim does too much thinking about him when...he was a lot worse in the 90s with steph. I remember getting so irritated when entire comics of robin would be narrated by steph or about her, i'd be like 'I want to read about ROBIN and his adventures, not steph, why is she even relevant?'. but tim's relationships to other people are a core part about him so you just have to take it.
the part that i think is justified in critique is in talking about whether her writing of bernard dowd is good. that is a much easier thing to answer. and its that its not good writing. in fact it's a pretty bad, inaccurate portrayal of him given how he was written when we first knew him. he's sort of been...sanded down? kind of remade into some new, almost unrecognizable character that fits into what she believes would be a nice, wholesome, gay partner for tim. which is an issue for me because we have seen and know what tim is like in relationships. tim had tension with, disagreed with, got annoyed with, fought and argued with his other partners like stephanie and ariana. but he also enjoyed himself and was happy with them. there was a balance there of good and bad because tim's unique situation of being robin made it so there had to be good and bad. with bernard it's all very passive and easy. they don't argue, they don't really fight, or have any struggles in their relationship when trying determine compatibility. avoiding tension in the relationship when tim has a track record of it makes it almost seem like she's afraid of the risk of portraying a gay relationship in anything less than a golden light. which is not good writing. BUT it is also very NEW. so maybe that will change (but there's a similar problem with jon kent and his bf so idk)? i personally believe kon would've been a more ideal partner with their shared history, chemistry, tension, the fact that fans have wanted it for decades, and the fact that it would've been such a good addition to the arc of self acceptance for kon's character. and many of the issues that tim being with bernard wouldn't be a thing because tim and kon famously don't see eye to eye 100 percent of the time and so their relationship would struggle and grow as they go from friends to romantic partners.
ultimately in my opinion to write a truly good tim drake you need to be able to accurately portray the thing that made him such a great robin: his heart of gold. tim cares about doing the right thing SO much. he cares about helping people. he's not some cold, unfeeling calculated computer who uses people as pawns and abandons his morals at the slightest inconvenience or seduction to the 'dark side'. and he's not some coffee drinking hacker man that is 20 steps ahead and smug about it.
tim worries about people, he's upset at injustice, feels guilt at not being able to save people, is judgy, sometimes a brat, sarcastic, gets angry at people for throwing their lives away, gets very invested in things that catch his interest, is too curious for his own good, nosy. he lies through his teeth and then bats his eyes in sweet as pie innocence. will think VERY rude thoughts about people but will bite his tongue because he's a nice boy👼 but sometimes things slip out. he is somehow simultaneously able to be the 🥺 and 😈 emoji at the same time. his odds of making bad decisions increase by 100 fold if in the company of other stupid teenagers.
now i write tim as a very exaggerated version of that core self. that's what a lot of ff authors do. they choose a handful of traits they like best about him and spin entire fics about it. i don't think writing tim as a fanfiction version of himself is a bad thing because some fanfic is genuinely better than the source material and that comes from being very good at understanding the character. the tim of today can't be written the same way he was in his golden age, the 90s, because a lot of his struggles and hurdles that he dealt with in those comics are over. they're done. tim can't be 30 years old and still wondering if he's doing a shit job as robin. tim IS a good robin and he should be able to acknowledge that (funnily enough one of his clear acknowledgements of that is often wiped away by fics- that being the titans tower scene where jason asks if tim thinks he's the better robin and tim, without hesitation, says yes) a lot of older fans are clinging to problems that tim has already resolved. he's not thirteen and insecure about his abilities. he's not on his first relationship with someone (but he is in his first relationship with a boy). he's not still learning how to navigate his relationship with batman and the rest of the family or struggling to come to terms with his civilian and caped life. do some of those things still trouble him on occasion? yes but they're not the main focus anymore.
tim has to have new problems, new challenges, new growth.
i had some hope for new tim comics.
would i like to have seen more tim centric material or at least good stories. and often times in the new tim comics tim was exactly the same at the end of the issue as he was at the beginning. tim struggling with his identity is something that made an appearance in 90s comics a lot but I think for the newer ones that it would've been better received/more interesting if it were...written better?
idk. i don't know a single comic fan that loved every detail of their fav's comics. was it the best run? no. but it was okay enough i guess. it was lukewarm, not standing ovation worthy but also nobody should be throwing tomatoes at the performers either, it just earned a polite clap of acknowledgement which i don't think is a very bad thing but still i hope we get something better!

okayy, but imagine every member of the horror house au.. in jail/prison!
I LOVE THAT!! I actually have considered this before, I love the idea and would love to explore it more!! Thank you for giving me the opportunity XDD
Horror House Horror Prison!
Tumblr media
Warnings: Like two gore mentions.
First of all, prison is not co-ed, so Chucky and Tiffany are separated- Though they are married, so they get conjugal visits. It is the worst day for everyone in the male prison, because Chucky comes back all smug and they all wanna kill him 😅.
Freddy is on constant suicide watch, because if he dies he can get back in the dream world and that make him very difficult to imprison 😅
No one fucks with Jason there (Apart from other Slashers), because he is huge and everyone knows better. Billy tries to stick around him for that reason XDD While Stu on the other hand has no problem because he's tall and fun and other prisoners just like him XD He makes prison fun! He befriends them and compliments their tattoos/crimes! Basically he's a natural there, extrovert that he is XDD
So yeah, Stu has a bunch of scary crime friends now and Billy is on very thin ice with them.
Bubba also sticks with Jason- but because he loves him, not because he needs him. Other prisoners will pick on him but no one actually touches him because he would go berserk.
Michael also doesn't get bothered but its not because of his size, obviously, he's not large- its because on the first day there he ripped someone's ear clean off their head. People give him a wide berth, apart from other Slashers (Unfortunately. Michael would love it if they would leave him be too but they always sit with him 😒😒 😅😅).
Michael, siting at lunch alone: 😑(But peaceful) Michael, when Jason sits down with his entourage (Bubba and Billy): 😑 (But frustrated) Michael, when Stu sits down, long legs knocking his own under the table: 😑 (But irritated) Michael, when Jerry, Pat and Pennywise sit down: 😑 (But questioning. Like why are you people here??) Michael, when Freddy and Chucky sit down): 😑 (But enraged)
Jerry, Patrick and 'Tad' (The name Pennywiseis under, pretending to be human so he can hang out in prison 🤣🤣) also hang out with the Slashers most of the time, but they're more independent.
Jerry is constantly fed only the tiniest bit of blood- enough to keep him 'living' but not powerful enough to escape. And he cant drink from anyone else around, because all the water has been blessed.
Also Jerry usually has the prison gossip. He walks around and charms people and they tell him what's going on (Who's coming in, who's leaving, who plans to shank Freddy or leave dog food in Chucky's bed later) and that is his addition to the group.
Patrick is pretty quiet here. He doesn't know how this happened. He was faking it so well! He covered his tracks! For this reason he kinda blames the Slashers though, because they dunno how to control themselves and got them all locked up for it (Which is true). Goes into rages and gets sent to isolation quite a bit.
Freddy is constantly bothering Pennywise about getting them out but Penny is just having so much fun here! Soooooo many fears... so many dark secrets... Its delicious.
Bubba gets really badly written letters from Drayton, Chop Top and Grandpa. Chucky and Freddy usually read them for him (I know, so nice. But they're nosy okay?? XD Allow me this). Jerry will read it if they blow him off though ^^
Michael gets visits from Dr Loomis and it can basically one of two ways- either the two men just sit there and glare at eachother for 45 minutes or Michael sits there and Dr Loomis lectures him for 45 minutes.
Okay over to the women's side of the prison!!
Just like her son, who takes after her obviously, Pam is the Big Boss and no one fucks with her around there. One sniff of disrespect and you will get a spoon in crammed down you throat.
Speaking of her son- Pam sends message with Tiffany to give to Chucky to pass son to Jason. She doenst truly trust that Chucky is doing his part-- but she has to believe ^^
And Pam is not the only one using Tiffany and Chucky's conjugal visits for her own gain XD Jennifer uses them to find out if anyone has been shanked. She has a betting pool going on with herself XD So Tiffany is just super happy, getting to go see her husband, and then Pam and Jennifer pop up just to harass her like
Guard: Valentine? Come with me, you're needed in Block 7 for your visit with Prisoner 1853. Tiffany: *Sighing happily* Oh Chucky... I'm coming! Don't wait up, ladies! Carrie: Have a good time ^^ Pam: Yes, and... if you would, could you please- Tiffany: *Frustrated sigh this time. What does she look like? A messenger pigeon??* Yeah, yeah, tell Chucky to tell Jason you love him very much and are thinkin' about 'em and hope he's doin' okay and to eat his veggies. I got it, hon... Jennifer: Yeah... Jennifer: -And before you fuck, find out if it was Freddy or Patrick that got shanked this time, K? Thanks. Tiffany: ... I swear-
Jen's just like what? I'm bored.
Maybe surprising?? But Carrie is the other one no one messes with around here XD They all heard about her massacring a whole gym worth of people and whether you believe she's magic or not-- that's still terrifying 😅😅 That halo is a trick. So there's just this adorable little blonde walking around looking nervous as hell and large terrifying women jumpin outta her way 🤣🤣
If anyone were to challenge Carrie still though, Tiffany has a shiv.
Pam has bitches. They are not Tiffany, Jennifer or Carrie... but yeah. Bitches. Women who are down bad for her and are at her beck and call. She doesn't pay them much mind, but they're there is she needs them.

Damian Wayne (adult)
Tumblr media
Damian probably wouldn’t even realise that you were a civilian at first, and would only pay attention to the fact that you both were fighting an enemy you shared. Because of this he would just join in and aid you in your fight the best that he can. He doesn’t have time to admire you before the enemy is finished, so don’t expect him to distract you too much while finishing the job.
Once he is finished, and the villain was successfully defeated - he would almost goes into a state of shock. Not only do you have ice powers that he has never even witnessed before, but you also don’t present yourself with a different identity which is allowing him to see exactly who you are
Although he’s curious, he’s also very suspicious of you. Damian is constantly questioning how he has never crossed paths with you before, and how no one in the family had even heard of you before. Because of this, he comes across as cold and always observing you at first (after he dragged you back to meet his family, and so they can keep a close eye on you) but eventually he takes a liking to you and eases you into crime-fighting duties if you decide to join fully - or he just keeps you company on the nights that you do want to help the city every now and then.
Since you are only a civilian, and one with unique abilities, he knows that you may be vulnerable to anyone else wanting to take advantage of your powers, so he becomes very protective and caring for you. He may not let you realise at first - but everything he does for you is because he is looking out for you and knows how to keep you safe.
Jason Todd
Tumblr media
When Jason comes across you taking care of dealing with a criminal, he keeps to himself at first - and watches you from a distance until he can figure out who you are, why he’s never seen you before, who you may work for, and especially, why you aren’t attempting to hide your identity.
As soon as he’s decided that you aren’t a major threat to him, he goes straight into interrogation mode as in his mind someone with your abilities can’t even be classed as a normal civilian. He immediately tries to get information out of you and will especially go out of his way to keep an eye on you until he finds out more about you and how you managed to keep such a low profile for so long.
You’re interesting to him, mainly because you don’t seem to fit in with anyone you surround yourself with. He understands what it’s like to feel excluded or not being able to connect with those around him, so he’s always there for you even if he acts really subtle about it. And eventually after getting to know him for a while the two of you become quite close and can confide in each other.
Jason has quite a problem with boundaries, so after figuring out that you live your life as just a normal civilian he also ends up finding out where you live. Sometimes he turns up where you live at random times (even in the middle of the night) because he was wondering if you could do any cool tricks that he hadn’t seen before. He also usually brings food with him when he turns up, so you never really get tired of him being around.
Garfield Logan
Tumblr media
He gets distracted quite easily, so when he first sees you he forgets his entire mission aim in that very moment. He is in complete awe, feeling almost as if he’s found another person in the world who can relate to him - which is a really rare and special thing for him to find.
Rather than wanting to find out who you may work for (to later find out you’re just a normal civilian) he goes straight into excitement and is almost childish as to how he watches you perform your abilities (which you end up showing him a few funny tricks to keep him entertained). He also can’t help but tell you everything about the other people with special abilities that he knows - including himself, especially - and almost drags you to where his friends are at the time so he can introduce you to them.
He can hardly believe that you go throughout your everyday life as a normal person, and loves to encourage you to break the rules and embrace your abilities in everyday use. But of course you can’t, so he ends up settling with just in the privacy of your own home. Because of his enthusiastic perspective of you, he really helps you gain confidence around what you can do and is even there for when you want to learn how to strengthen yourself in case you ever wanted to go up against any more experienced villains.
You would end up always doing little favours for him, whether it’s freezing some ice cubes for his drink, or casually making it snow inside of his room, he’s always filled with joy. He can push you too far sometimes though when you haven’t really come to grips with the strength of your power and so the two of you often get into trouble - especially when he likes to include you on any pranks or sneaking around that he used to have to do all by himself.
Bruce Wayne
Tumblr media
Bruce has seen a lot of things in his time fighting crime, and is fairly accustomed to the strange and unique people he stumbles across on the way. So when he encounters you, he isn’t so much shocked as to what you can do - but certainly acts cautious. Because you live as a civilian, that means he knows you haven’t had any specialised and controlled training as to what you can do. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t willing to provide that for you.
It doesn’t take him long to welcome you into the little family he has built for himself - whether you decide to fight crime full time or not. Bruce is more than happy for you to just spend time with him and the others and get to join in on getting to know everyone. But as if you decide to live a normal life and still fight crime every now and then at night he may be quite judgemental - he knows how easy it is for someone who lives that lifestyle to be found and eventually everyone else’s secrets will come out too.
Since you don’t have any proper costumes or way to disguise yourself he’s be more than happy to get that sorted for you. He’d even give the press a little tip as to what your vigilante name would be. And not long after he first gets to know you he would take you on a little tour around the city to explain the hotspots of crime or what and who to look out for - it’s something he’d wish he had already knew when he first started fighting crime.
You’d always be welcome at his house, as it is fairly hard to fall out with him. But just know, that no matter how much of a normal life you live during the day, if he ever found out that you’d betrayed him or anyone else under his wing, he’ll make sure that you’re dealt with properly.

i’m sure someone has made this list before. but i’ve recently reread the robin (1993-2009) comics and realised how Batshit Crazy tim’s time as robin was. here’s a list of major events that happened during his tenure:
obeah man???: still not clear on exactly what happened here, but his parents are both poisoned, resulting in his mom’s death and his dad’s long-term coma.
knightfall/knightquest/knightsend: the iconic arc when bane breaks bruce’s back and azrael (derogatory) temporarily becomes batman then quickly goes off the rails and tries to kill tim, forcing him to go solo and work with huntress (hashtag girlboss) before bruce returns and handles azrael
contagion: the incurable Apocalypse Virus™ threatens to wipe out gotham city and tim naturally catches it and nearly dies before bruce returns with The Cure
the final night: a sun-eater tries to Eat The Sun. tim meets impulse! robin and spoiler defend gotham city on their own during the crisis! tim’s girlfriend’s crazy mafia uncle tries to kill him after finding them in bed together (not doing the sexy. but it looked like they were gonna do it.)
cataclysm: a massive earthquake levels half of gotham, throwing the city into crisis and causing some problems in tim’s personal life as his father relocates them to keystone briefly before tim’s misery convinces him to move them back to gotham
no man’s land (a personal favourite): gotham’s post-earthquake crisis worsens and the government decides that the best solution is to declare it no man’s land. shockingly, this causes Even More Problems. there’s a whole thing where tim’s dad realises tim snuck off into the city, and the news about it makes people sympathetic enough to gotham’s (cough a rich white family’s) plight that the government decides to actually help. cass becomes batgirl!
young justice/teen titans drama!: so much went on here. i don’t even know where to begin. the whole imperiex/our worlds at war apocalyptic crisis. tim quits young justice after the thing where the justice league discovers batman’s Super Paranoid Contingency Plans™ causes the team to distrust him. he returns to the team, which is disbanded after a team-up with the titans goes badly. the teen titans is formed. general fuckery involving tim’s civilian life!
unmasked: tim’s dad finds out he’s robin, confronts batman in the batcave with a gun and forces tim to quit. steph becomes robin and cuts off contact with tim. superboy tries to convince tim to come back to teen titans, but tim insists that he’s Totally Happy Just Being A Civilian, Kon. Really. He’s Less Stressed Now That He’s Not Dealing With Constant Crises! (lying)
war games: oh god. we all know this one. gang war! gotham in peril! steph dies! tim meets evil!future batman!tim who murdered the entire rogue gallery with the gun that killed bruce’s parents. tim seriously considers killing himself to prevent this future.
identity crisis: a Mysterious Villain begins targeting families of the justice league. because tim is not allowed to have anything remotely nice, his dad is murdered (by captain boomerang, which is frankly adding insult to injury). tim invents an uncle to avoid getting adopted by bruce (really, kid? really?). bruce finds out and helps him solidify the fake uncle's identity (bruce no)
robin: to kill a bird: jason todd returns all crazy and nearly kills tim at titans’ tower (dressed in a version of his robin costume) and signs his name in tim’s blood. theatre kid much, jason?
infinite crisis: c’mon dc, you’ve done like four world-ending crises in the last decade. chill your goddamn tits. the teen titans, doom patrol, and justice society of america team up to take down superboy prime. normal superboy dies due to the fight, despite tim’s desperate attempt to find a cure. also bludhaven got nuked and tim’s stepmother gets a traumatic brain injury and is permanently hospitalised. then bruce, tim, and dick go on vacation and tim accepts bruce’s offer to adopt him! yay!
one year later: cass is briefly evil! the league of assassins tries to recruit tim, who barely escapes with his life after turning them down. then he goes a little crazy with grief, tries to clone kon, and has a brief relationship with extreme violence before deciding to break it off.
the resurrection of ra’s al ghul: damian arrives in gotham! and tries to kill tim multiple times! ra’s tries to seduce tim to the Dark Side with the promise of resurrecting his parents! tim refuses! ra’s tries to force bruce to sacrifice either tim or damian to become his new host body! tim tries to sacrifice himself but is convinced by dick to Not Do That at the last minute!
batman r.i.p.: bruce dies, but not really! fun times!
battle for the cowl: i like to pretend this doesn’t exist, because it is Stupid As Fuck. jason nearly kills tim again, but damian (!) rescues him.
red robin: dick makes damian robin. the end!
but not really
and then of course the whole red robin series (which i love) is just like. tim is passively suicidal! tim loses an entire important organ while working with the loa! tim becomes ceo of wayne enterprises then blows up the loa and ra’s almost kills him! tim is nearly raped by one of ra’s’ daughters because ra’s really wants tim’s babies! this is not dealt with at all!!! love that for him

tbh even if the writers did see it they probably don't care at least brendan and jason are giving narcissistic vibes with the way brendan responded to valid criticisms and how jason actively likes hate tweets
And I can understand on some level being defensive when the thing you presumably love & spent years of your life working on is suddenly under fire & being attacked from all angles. But really truly the way Brendan behaved during that AMA was so strange to me. Is defending the clearly abusive relationship you wrote the hill you really wanna die on, bud? I’ll never understand that.
And yeah, Jason is Jason with liking the hate tweets but I’ve noticed that post finale he’s switched to only liking tweets that praise the ending. Which is hilarious to me because if he tried to like all the hate tweets he’d be scrolling for weeks trying to get them all.
I hate to say it, I really do. But I feel like all of the valid criticisms about deeper problems within the finale are being overshadowed by how upset tedbecca shippers are. Not that they’re not allowed to be upset, I just think that they’re so loud and present on social media with the complaints that those are the only criticisms Jason is really seeing.
And I think that maybe if that wasn’t the case he and Brendan both might have been able to address the deeper problems with more tact. Problems like ‘Why did Beard and Jamie end up back with their abusers?’ ‘Why was Ted so utterly disconnected in the last episode?’ and the list goes on and on. But people with other criticisms are being ignored and laughed at just as much as the people who are simply upset their ship wasn’t endgame. So we’ve lost all credibility on any front.

Survivor (Jason Todd/Red Hood X Reader) - Part 2
I finally decided to continue some oneshots into small series. Maybe I’ll make them into 3 or 4 parts, idk. Enjoy!
Warnings: Mentions of injuries, jumping off buildings, crime, the usual Jason Todd fanfic.
Standing over Gotham brings back so many memories. It’s raining, the cold water nearly slicing your skin open with the harsh wind around you. Despite how calm you were forcing yourself to be, your heart wouldn’t stop beating at a variable rate. You couldn’t help it.
The distorted lights and little people moving below you remind you of a time when life was simpler. You were just a stupid kid to believe you could make a difference without any consequences. The cuts and bruises were expected, but there was nothing you could do to even prepare for the emotional torture you’ll endure for the rest of your life. At least the physical won’t be a problem anymore. You shivered just thinking about the Pit flowing through your veins, your body so used to it you’re practically a walking Lazurus Pit.
It had only been a few months since the visit. Despite Jason’s protests that Bruce didn’t know, you had a feeling that he did. It wasn’t because he was the world’s greatest detective, no, it’s because he’s your father. Despite everything, no matter what you’ve been through, he’ll always read you like an open book. You’re lucky that it goes both ways, allowing you to see through his tricks and mind games. Maybe that’s why you haven’t shot him yet, even if he was standing a few feet away.
“What do you want, Bruce?” you ask, removing your foot from the ledge. “Afraid I’ll jump?”
You turn to him, a wide smile on your face as you toy with a detonator. Jason had a busy night setting up the bombs, and you’re so damn excited to give Gotham the best light show since the Fourth of July.
“When did he get to you?” Bruce gently says with obvious sadness in his tone.
“Oh, no, you’re not going to play that game with me,” you respond, walking away from the edge. “No monologuing, no distractions.”
“You were healing, (Y/N),” he pushes, not even twitching a finger as you slowly approached. “You were so close and he just took it all away.”
You sigh and press the detonator, turning away from him to watch the explosions all over the city. The smile returns on your face even when you’re tackled to the ground, laughter spilling from your lips as he held your face in his hands.
“I was never going to be the kid that I was, you know that,” you chuckle and look to the sky. “Just another casualty in the crusade to cleanse Gotham.”
The bright smoke illuminating the sky felt like looking at shooting stars. It nearly made you want to make a wish on it, but Bruce interrupts it by pulling you to him. You’re too focused on the sky to notice, but his voice brings you back to reality.
“Is this really what you want? To become the very thing that changed you, to become Him?”
You instantly push away, and he lets you go. He’s just playing mind games, you tell yourself. It’s just a distraction. What time is it? You should have met with Jason by now.
“I will never be like him,” you growl, your body sagging after a few moments. “How could you even say that?”
You’re hurt, insulted that he would even think that you would allow yourself to be like that clown. Tears threaten to escape as you press your lips together.
“You just don’t understand yet,” you say, closing your eyes as you fall off the edge.
Bruce screams your name and jumps after you. You reach for your grappling hook and notice that it’s missing. Eyes wide, you look back to Bruce and quickly adjust your body. Reaching an arm out, you grab at the first thing jutting out of a building. A scream erupts from your mouth as your shoulder tears from the force of your falling. Looking down, you only have a few more floors until it’s ground level.
Not even a few seconds after you tear your shoulder, you let go and land on the ground. Rolling to the best of your ability, you snap your ankle as soon as it meets the concrete. You suck in so much air it feels like your head is floating. Bruce lands softly behind you, not saying a word.
“You really didn’t think I’d do it,” you laugh, reaching up to snap your shoulder back in place. “You have too much faith in me.”
Your shoulder and ankle quickly heal, cracking a few times as you roll them experimentally. It’s risky to keep entertaining him, especially when Jason warned you so many times against it, but you can’t help it. It’s nice to talk with him without a filter. It’s nice to see what he really thinks you’re capable of. You can’t wait to destroy what’s left of that weakling he still thinks you are.
“Maybe you don’t have enough for yourself.”
“Quit twisting words, say what you want to say. Communication is key to healing after all,” you quip, mentally planning a way to leave without leading him to Jason. “Or is this just a distraction so Dick can help you take me down? How long until he gets here? A minute? Maybe he’s waiting for the perfect moment to swoop in.”
“It’s just us,” Bruce responds. “It’s always been just us. No Nightwing, no Red Hood.”
It’s sad that you actually believed him. You almost say something, but the sweet scent of smoke fills your nose. Your eyes flash in recognition, and Bruce notices.
“Don’t, (Y/N),” he starts but cuts himself off. “I don’t want to lose you again.”
“You won’t,” you say, and your tone of voice makes him twitch. “We’ll see each other again soon enough.”
Taking one step backward, you run to the epicenter of the smoke. Using it as a cover, you quickly enter the sewers and run towards your rendezvous point. You chose to take a long way, giving yourself enough time to make sure that Bruce was not following you. Everything was checked over and torn apart just in case if there was a tracker placed on you. There was nothing that you found by the time you arrive.
You push the door open and lock it as soon as you enter. Jason places a hand on your shoulder, his fingers quickly running down to trace the damage on your suit. Your eyes follow his movements, finally noticing a hole with glowing blood surrounding it. Your blood.
“You okay?” he asks, hands still trying to soothe you.
“Yeah,” you reply, allowing the tension in your shoulders to dissipate. “Didn’t even know I hurt myself that bad.”
“He got to you, didn’t he?”
“No, he didn’t.” You say, removing your jacket and tossing it next to the door. “It’s funny, he said the same thing about you.”
“Of course he would,” he grumbles, guiding you to the couch.
“How long before phase 2?” you ask, sighing as you sat next to him.
“Don’t worry about that right now, we have plenty of time,” Jason smiles, dragging his fingers down your cheek. “You were amazing tonight.”
You smile back, relishing his touch, “I’m gonna rest, tonight took a lot out of me.”
He nods, retracting his hand. You stare into his green eyes, feeling right at home as you lean forward and mold your lips against his. Jason pulls you close, drawing a hiss out of you. He stops, casting you a worried glance.
“Sorry,” you mutter, pushing yourself up. “Don’t stay up too late.”
Silently, you enter your bedroom and shut the door. Taking in deep breaths, you force yourself to remove your clothes and enter the bathroom. As soon as you see yourself in the mirror you can’t help but stare. Your usual eye color is long gone, replaced with glowing green eyes similar to Jason’s. The consequences of using the pit was costly, but even now you still feel pieces of yourself disappearing.
You don’t usually lie to Jason, especially when it comes to Bruce, but you couldn’t help it. There were too many coincidences, too many gut feelings ignored. Gripping the countertop, you looked everywhere else but your eyes. Your wounds healed perfectly, but your thoughts still ran wild.
Was Bruce right? Who took your grappling hook? You move yourself away from the mirror. What would have happened if you didn’t catch yourself?

Jason Dean (J.D. Heathers) Soulmate AU Headcanon
Yes, yes. Here i am again. Talking about this guy. What can i say? This lovable psycho is worth it. There is not enough like this here so i descided to write it myself. I continue the other project with him when i got more time ok? be patient with me. And sorry for any mistakes. Like i said before i am from germany and so i don't see all mistakes until it is too late.
This time i wanted to share some thoughts about the soulmate topic. No real story here. Just ideas. Enjoy!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I believe that after everything that happened to him, J.d. would really want a soulmate. Like he would cling on to them.
I think he would want something stable. No, he NEEDS something stable.
I mean his dad moves with him all the time, he has no real reason to bother with names and faces, no friends....
talking about his dad..... that is not healthy either. Not at all.
As we all know, his mom...."left" but his dad means it was an accident. It was not. His wife had problems and moving around probably did not help.
So the idea that someone is waiting just for him? Perfect for him and not leavin? Damn Yes! Sign him up!
Here are a few ideas.
Imagine an AU were the universe introduces you to each other before meeting.
Like, you share knowledge. You wake up and suddenly you know new stuff about your soulmate. Stuff they like, stuff that is important to them. Or stuff that is important in their life and family....... Oh my.....
I mean one morning you wake up and know that his mom....you know? That would be messed up.
Or you suddenly know how to use a gun. Or how to take down a house and build a bomb.
I know that i would pray for my soulmate to just be a history/science nerd. (We all know that won't work no matter how hard we pray)
Now imagine you are a history nerd yourself and you are interested in.... i don't know.... old torture devices. And how to use them....
Not the kind of knowledge you wanna share with him.
It would even more convince him that you are made for each other.
Another idea: Imagine an AU were you have numbers on your wrist. Not a timer but how far you are away from each other. Something that tells you how close you are
I am sure he is already pissed every time his dad tells him that they move again.
Even more so with this.
But know imagine, (like in my last post) that you are from europe. Maybe germany like in my case.
And one day J.d. is done and does the math. Finding out that it does not matter where he goes in america would be a hard pill
Nothing that would stop him however, I am sure.
Let's be real here. We know how he got with Veronica. You better be ready for this whole soulmate thing because he is not leaving once he got you.
This is the last thing. Imagine an AU were you share scars and injuries. However you don't get it as bad as your soulmate.
That would be one more reason for him to have that gun on him.
And IF he gets hurt? (Kurt Ram?) Oh he will deal with them. After all, they did not just attack him.
(This gives me ideas for the heathers too. but maybe later)
The point is, nobody is allowed to lay a finger on you.
But at the same time he has his slushies.... that damn.....
But this is different because.... well..... once he found you, you share the pain. He gets you slushies and you give it all back. Thats ok. (No it isn't)
----------------------------------------------------------------
So that is it for now. Like i said i continue the other soulmate stuff later. I promise. See ya!

Thoughts on Batman Arkham Origins
Main Story
Opening is nice
Black Mask before Jason? That's interesting
Killer Croc helping Black Mask was a surprise
I don't think Roman threatening Waylon is good idea
It feels like Roman's normal voice is higher and he tries to make it deeper when intimidating people
Well at least Batman didn't let Croc die
I'm going to add some new characters
Also Bane wasn't originally in Gotham?
Of course, it was Nigma behind the towers, it's funny that Batman guessed his name
Can Batman stop choking people?
Gotta admit Electrocutioner has a style.
Aight nevermind that was hilariously lame lmao
Tracey is kinda cute
Yo Candy 👀
Falcone wanting his son back is somehow heartwarming
Hi Slade, didn't see you since Teen Titans
His fight actually looks interesting, the wacking is kinda funny
Love how confused he is by Batman
Penguin is a sleaz in this version
Anarky is like "We live in society"; nice voice though
No one's believes Roman is dead but its a nice mystery;
Ooh, first time he heard of the Joker
I find it cool that Anarky was impressed Batman saved those places; didn't expect him to be called a kid, how old is he?
The thing is, he is right in what he is saying, but it's the way he wants to solve these problems it the issue
Him wanting Batman to mentor him my heart! Baby, no, please just learn from your mistakes
Batman was right to beat these cops
Hey Barbara! Interestingly, Jim didn't like Batman at the beginning
When it was said there was piece of white clothing I knew it was Roman
Ok didn't expect the guy to force a Roman hand in killing his girlfriend, that was evil
The way that Joker is once again the main villain should be annoying, especially with the premise they set up, but I think they did it in a good way; it's honesty cool since it's the first time Batman had heard of him
The Mad Hatters bunnies 💀
The fucking sir bit lol, I would love to annoy him; his reason for controlling people is very interesting
Of course he fucking choked him
Wonderland looks cool
"Drained a bit of that willpower of yours" He just went through a fucking door, calm down
He really traumatized her huh?
The girl is laughing, definitely Joker gas
Wait, that's Joker in costume?! Holy shit he is amazing voice acting
And he just beat the shit out of the Roman!
(Since it was Joker from the beginning I can't use it for characterization? )
Is Shiva with Al Ghoul?
Of course Roman has heart problems because of his anger lol
He looks kinda nice tied up
FOR FUCK SAKE BRUCE STOP BEATING THE SHIT OUT OF LYING MAN
Copperhead scared the shit out of me
Ok that was torture, Batman wanted to torture a guy. BTAS would be so angry at his other self
Wait, is her venom is like a fear toxin?
Alfred's speech was sad.
The guilt goes hard in this
The problem with Deadshot is apparently dude is an imposter? I don't know how to characterize him.
Never mind, he wasn't in the game long enough.
Joker still doing BM impression is hot
Electrocutioner just playing a video game, dude really is asking to die
The guy who voices Joker does an excellent job, why were people complaining about him?
Yep expected it
Firefly looks cool
Bane is badass
Batman was allowed to beat Jokers ass
The Bane pose is seriously iconic
Of course Joker laughs when falling to death
Joker not understanding why Batman saved is very nice
Joker to Blackgate? That's gonna be interesting
Wait it's Harley?! But they meet in Arkham
The imagination is seriously weird but fits
Joker saying Batman changed his life is… interesting
Oh, his Red Hood backstory
Oh it's pretty gay not gonna lie
Wait, she thought he was talking about her while he was talking about Batman lmao
Alfred is trying to be a good father, fuck off Bruce
The Nigmas passwords are amazing
The cop just going 'Yup' kills me
Bane knowing who Batman is a nice twist
I get why Gordon doesn't trust Batman but he is helping with bombs, come on man
Aww they started to like each other
Alfred use the shotgun
I know he won't die because he is in other games but it's sad seeing Bruce actually be desperate
Looks like gloves were a good idea
"Don't drink and drive, you'll kill someone " "Yeah yeah what are you in for?" "Manslaughter " that got a chuckle out of me
He already has Harley around his finger, don't like how they changed how they met but at least her voice isn't so annoying
Why the fuck does Joker wants to die so badly?
"Maybe you shouldn't move?" Shoots them; Good job Jim!
Gordon is a good man
And that's how he earned respect from Jim, good job Bat; also it's nice for him to ask for help where the fuck did go in the future?
I love how Gordon just fucking hits sniper with a bat
It's fun; although Barbara should have looked up to her dad and just have Bat as inspiration for her suit but eh
Are they teasing Suicide Squad?
Initiation DLC
It's nice seeing what League was like and what they teached but it just fighting, boring.
Cold, Cold Heart
Now THIS, this is what I'm talking about
Love the opening, the speech was so fake
Didn't expected Penguin to mix
The fact that Bruce actually has respect for Ferris will make learning the truth pretty fun
The new suit looks goofy
Lmao the callback to future roof dropping with the Diller
The realization in Bat voice when he finds out what happened, perfect
Why did Freeze freeze Nora in her dress? She looks beautiful but it doesn't seem practical
She looks beautiful
Overall
Enjoyed it, might actually be my favorite game (and since I know few plot points from Knight it might stay that way).

Hey Neighbour: Love is blind
Jason Todd x Male! British! Reader
Tumblr media
Life has a funny way of changing how your path goes, it also has a funny and cruel way of bringing people into your life and then taking them away.
Jason young when he met his sweetheart, Gabby, the two moving in together. Getting engaged and then having a little boy.
Oscar was a copy of both his parents from looks to personality. However, the fun family time was struck short.
Gabby was out most nights, all night, and on top of Jason having to patrol. He wasn’t able to do so much anymore. Oscar was sick one night and Jason had been left with him the whole time. Day and night.
Jason had enough by now as his one year old was getting upset a lot and Gabby didn’t seem to care much.
‘I want you out, out of our lives and I want you gone by the time I get back’ Jason said calmly to Gabby as she stood in the hallway outside the bedroom. A bedroom they shared that she had snuck another man into.
Jason didn’t get angry or upset and if he was being honest with himself, he really didn’t care. He wasn’t heartbroken, like the love between them had gone. Jason was only thankful they didn’t get married, and that he would be able to get sole custody of Oscar, as Gabby was neglectful.
Two years later and Jason was hands on, hard working, patrolling as much as he could and didn’t like nor want his life another way, at least for now.
‘You ready?’ Jason called out as Oscar walked into the kitchen with his little bag, his smile always pulled at Jason’s heart.
‘Daddy? Can I bring Lily?’ Oscar asked, holding up his favourite stuffed bear, Jason nodded as he patted his kid on the head.
Jason worked for his Dad which was perfect for him, Bruce allowed him to work from home and even offered to take care of Oscar at the weekends if Jason wanted some alone time.
‘Oh sorry’ you said as you bumped into Jason while carrying a box, distracting Jason from his thoughts.
Your hands fit neatly round the corners of the box, and your eyes were the deepest y/e/c Jason had ever seen, they almost pulled him in, your smile and face. Jason couldn’t put together why all of a sudden he was almost weak at the knees.
‘No problem, I wasn’t looking where I was going’ Jason smiled politely as Oscar hugged his leg.
‘I am working on two hours of sleep and caffeine right now so I’m a little clumsy’ you chuckled as you winked at the little three year old, who only hid his face in his Fathers leg.
‘That’s cool, I’m the same most of the time, where you move from?’ Jason asked you, hinting at your clothes and accent.
‘I’m from England’ You smiled, ‘I’m y/n’ you shook Jason’s hand as he smiled again.
‘Jason, this is Oscar’ Jason said as he ruffled Oscar’s hair.
‘So I guess we’re neighbours, I live in 203’ you point to your door that you left ajar. Jason scrunched his nose a little.
‘Maybe don’t leave your door open, this is Gotham after all’ he laughed as you nodded.
‘Cheers for that mate, I’ll remember it’ you winked as you carried on walking to your apartment, closing the door behind you.
Jason’s week was pretty normal after that as it consisted of work and child care, being a parent was his main goal. Bruce offered to take Oscar on a trip but then Oscar came down with a bug. Not wanting to risk his Dad getting sick, Jason kept him home.
‘How’s my little soldier doing?’ Jason cooed at his Son, feeling a little hurt by the sight of Oscar being sick.
Holding the bucket for Oscar to empty himself into, crying in between each wretch that hurt his ribs and tummy. Jason just rubbed his back, reassuring that his little man would be ok.
A slight knock at the door made Jason jump and as Oscar still carried on being sick, Jason couldn’t leave.
‘Hang on a sec’ Jason called out, he hadn’t even noticed the time of day. It was coming up dinner time.
‘Fuck’ Jason muttered under his breath, he couldn’t believe he’d forgotten about dinner.
‘Jason?’ Your voice called out from the other side of the door with another slight knock.
‘Y/n?’ Jason called back as Oscar lay back down on his side.
Jason opened the door to see you standing there with a concerned look in your face.
‘Everything all right mate?’ You asked as Jason nodded, noticing he must’ve looked disheveled.
‘Os is sick’ he replied, ‘I forgot to get food but haven’t got anything in or time to go out, he also can’t move’ Jason said, kind of tearing up a little as he panicked internally.
‘I was just coming over to ask about, not important now. If you want to run out, I can watch him’ you said as Jason looked relieved a little.
‘You sure?’ He asked, you nodded with a smile as he stepped aside for you.
‘I’ll be 10 minutes’ Jason said as he began to grab his things, rushing around.
‘Hey don’t rush, really, you can stop and get a coffee if you want too. I’ll look after him for as long as you like’ you insisted, Jason placed his hand on his heart, then hugged you.
‘Thank you so much y/n’ Jason whispered as he leaned his face a little to your neck.
You felt Jason’s breath travel down your shoulder, you knew it was only gratitude. However, the hug lingered for a long time.
Jason broke away as he walked to the door, giving you one last thank you as he left.
Sitting in the car driving back home, Jason wondered what the hell happened back there. He hugged you like that, he laughed to himself as thoughts ran over him.
Jason used to like this boy when he was younger just before he met Gabby, he never really thought much of it. Not even growing up, but since being single again he started to notice more and more, he likes both. He’d never noticed before. Nor thought into it.
‘Shit’ he said out loud as he came to the apartment, walking in to see you and Oscar laughing on the couch.
Jason stood in the door as he smiled at the sight of the two of you, getting on like best friends. Playing and laughing.
‘Hey mate’ you smiled as Oscar jumped into his father’s arms.
‘Daddy I missed you’ Oscar said as he wrapped his little arms around Jason’s neck.
‘I missed you too little bud, how you feeling?’ He asked as Oscar smiled.
‘I hope you don’t mind, I gave him some tea, it always worked when I was a kid. My mum would make me a cuppa to settle my stomach’ You said as Oscar reached for you.
Jason watched as you didn’t hesitate in receiving a hug from his Son, and smiling as Oscar buried his face into your chest.
‘I’ll put dinner on, y/n would you like to stay? It’ll be my thank you for all your help’
‘I don’t want to intrude’ you said as Jason shook his head.
‘You’re not intruding, you’re our neighbour. Please, stay’ Jason said, you smiled as you nodded.
‘So, what made you want to live here?’ Jason asked you, sitting opposite you at the table as the three of you finished up eating.
‘Different things, there wasn’t a lot of work ethics I liked in England, also I got bored and wanted something different’ you replied, trying to think of an answer on the spot.
Jason nodded as he saw Oscar handing you a toy car, you took it from him with a soft smile and played with it.
‘So, Bruce Wayne?’
‘Yeah, my Dad. I’m adopted like my brother’s, at least all apart from my youngest brother Damian’
Oscar slid off his chair as he ran out the room to play with his toys. Leaving just you and Jason.
‘Guess he got bored of our chat’ Jason remarked as you laughed, you stood up taking yours and Jason’s plate to the sink.
‘What are you doing?’ Jason asked you as you ran the water into the sink.
‘Washing up, it’s the least I could do. It was always a rule when I was growing up, if someone cooks for you’ you hadn’t realised that Jason was now right next to you, helping you as he dried up what you cleaned.
‘So where’s Oscar’s Mother?’ You asked, Jason fell silent by the question.
‘Oh God, I’m sorry. You don’t need to answer if you don’t want too’ you comment based on Jason’s facial expression.
‘Oh no, it’s fine. She left when Oscar was 1, I made her and got sole custody’
‘Oh that’s all right then?’ You smiled, Jason brushed his knuckles against yours briefly.
The TV was on in the background as the living room had fallen dark, the quiet noise of the show you were watching filled the air.
‘Oscar is finally asleep’ Jason said lowly as he flopped on the couch next to you.
You poured some more whiskey into the glasses in front and handed Jason his, clinking your glasses together as you both sipped.
‘So, is it difficult being a single Dad?’ You asked Jason, he only shrugged.
‘Has it’s moments where it’s hard’ Jason said as he looked into your eyes.
‘Is it hard being far away from home?’ Jason asked you.
You smiled a little as you ruffled your hair a little, looking away from Jason, feeling a tightness in your chest.
‘No, I was never really close with my family and issues happened along the way, I found it easy to leave’ you said, you never told anyone too much about yourself as you never had people in your life for long.
‘England must be lovely place to live’ Jason said, leaning back into the couch as he rested his arm on the back rest.
‘Was lonely at times, also depends on where you live, I lived in a nice little village. About an hour away from a City. But it got lonely after a while’
Jason leaned in towards your body a little more as you spoke, not looking at him as you talked about your childhood.
‘My parents used to fight a lot, plus I’m an only child so it made it difficult never having anyone to turn too’
Jason had a look of sympathy on his face when you met his eyes, eyes that could cut deep into you.
‘Sorry it was so hard for you’
‘It’s ok, always felt better about myself when I got older’
‘Y/n I was wondering if you wanted to go out sometime. Like the two of us, away from the apartment building obviously’ Jason asked, you gave a look of surprise.
‘How did you know I’m Gay? You’ve seen me checking you out?’ You laughed, Jason smiled softly as he sat forward.
‘Plus the booty shorts you wear in the laundry room are a giveaway, and don’t help when I’m trying not to be distracted’ Jason followed with, as you blushed.
‘I bet, I thought you were into women?’ You asked confused.
‘I’m bisexual’ Jason opened up, it felt good for him to be honest about himself for once.
You leant in a little towards Jason’s face as he didn’t hesitate and did the same, feeling your lips so close to his own made Jason’s heart race.
In the blink of an eye your lips were on Jason’s in a passionate kiss, and Jason felt so alive after a while that he pulled you in even closer.
Jason pulled you into his lap as you wrapped your arms around his neck, kissing him so deep you felt like you were going to explode.
The grunts, the breaths you took, the breaks to pant and look into each other’s eyes. You felt like you could stay where you were forever. Jason felt the same, a strange feeling of comfort.
Jason woke up the next morning with you in his arms and never smiled so much in his life, kissing the back of your head then travelling down to your neck and shoulder.
‘Good morning’ you said sleepily as Jason pulled back up to look in your eyes.
‘Morning gorgeous’
You greeted Jason with a kiss as he urged you to turn around, facing him to he could kiss you deeper.
‘That sex was amazing, sorry we had to keep it down’ Jason said as he held you in his arms.
‘No problem, don’t want to wake up Oscar’ You laughed, ‘speaking of I should probably get up’ you continued as you rolled out of Jason’s bed.
Jason rolled onto his back and rested his hand under his head, watching you walk around the bedroom in nothing but your underwear.
‘You know you can stay for breakfast, you live next door’ Jason smiled, checking you out again making him twitch under the covers.
‘Jason I think you should talk to Oscar first before we start letting him see us, and also maybe explain to your family too’ you said as you dressed yourself.
Jason lay down still, not moving from his position as he watched you. Jason was into you and wanted to see if it could work, but he was scared.
Scared he’d be judged for telling everyone the truth, scared of not and losing you. He had to think, but he had to do it also as a Father.
‘Oscar loves you as much as I do’ Jason said as he wrapped you in a hug, you stopped what you were doing.
‘You love me?’ You asked, Jason didn’t hesitate in his answer.
‘Yes, dearly’
‘Jason, I love you too’ you said as you placed a hand on his face, a face that lit up like Vegas at night from your words.
‘Which is why you should speak to Os and your family’ you said as you kissed him, walking towards his front door.
Jason sat in the car staring at Wayne Manor as he is to think of every case scenario that could happen, including the bad ones. Mostly the bad ones.
‘Daddy?’ Oscar snapped Jason back to reality, Jason smiled as he got out of the car.
‘Come on buddy’ Jason said as he took his Son’s hand, walking with him to Wayne Manor.
Jason’s brain went all over the place as he began to get nervous, but held it together for his Son’s sake.
They couldn’t hate Jason for this as he had done bad things in the past, the family still took him back. Never any hesitation with it either.
Oscar was so happy when Jason told him he’d be able to see a lot more, as more than just the neighbour. But also as Daddy’s boyfriend.
It was late by now as you stared at the TV, not really thinking or paying much attention to what was on. Just trying hard to distract yourself.
Yourself also sitting thinking bad thoughts about everything, as Jason hadn’t seen you to tell you what had happened after he told Oscar. You saw him leaving for Wayne Manor, and that was it. Nothing.
*Knock, knock, knock*
You rose to your feet as you looked at your watch to see it was coming up midnight, you couldn’t think of who would show up now.
‘Jason’ you said, wanting to smile but it never came as Jason looked at you. Serious and shut off.
‘Can I come in?’ You nodded as you stepped aside to let him in.
Jason just wondered in the hallway, looking at your pictures up on the wall. Your huge canvas of the Union Jack hung up, surrounded by pictures of your family.
‘So, I went to see my family after I told Oscar, they listened. We chatted for a long time. I told them everything, about when I was younger and how I never thought much of, my feelings for men as well as women. I also told them that we slept together and that I love you’
Jason didn’t seem to change his tone of voice, you couldn’t work out if he was upset or not. He didn’t make eye contact with you.
‘And? What happened?’ You asked, urging Jason to carry on.
‘They accepted, Oscar accepted’ was all Jason said, his tone of voice the same.
‘So what’s wrong?’
‘I don’t, accept. I can’t’ Jason followed with, this time looking at you.
‘Why?’ You answered, a little bewildered as Jason looked in your eyes.
‘I can’t accept that someone as amazing as you, would go for someone like me’ Jason whispered, tears starting in his eyes.
‘What do you mean? Jay, I’m with you no matter what. I fell for the person that you are’
‘But why? Oscar’s Mom and all the fuck ups, what….’ Jason couldn’t find words.
‘Jason, all of that is done now, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere, I know about all that and it doesn’t change anything’
Before you knew you were in Jason’s arms being held tightly by him, his head down on your shoulder. Jason kissed your cheek, you turned your head a little as you kissed him deeply.
‘Feel better?’ You asked, Jason smiled and nodded.
‘Want to meet everyone?’ He asked you, you chuckled.
‘Give it time babe’ you answered, trying not to rush into everything too fast.
‘Where’s Oscar?’ You asked, Jason sighed.
‘At the Manor, thought he could use some time with his Uncle Damian and Grandpa’
‘Great, gives us sometime to have some alone time’ you winked, taking Jason’s hand and going to the bedroom with him.
Around the one year mark of the relationship Jason just sat, watching on with a smile on his face as he saw you talking to his Dad, holding yours and his Son in your arms.
Oscar stood with his back to you as you wrapped your arms around him, talking to Bruce. The two of you talking and laughing together. Then Dick and Tim came over, the five of you together as a family.
Jason smiled in bliss and love as he saw the light of the sun, hitting your face, looking on lovingly toward his family.

Fellow Queen’s Thief enjoyer here! It always takes me back when Irene and Gen and their ages get mentioned because it is such an important part to who they are and it’s an age gap done for a reason that actually works within the series it is in. Irene was 20-23 (?) to Gen being 13-14 when the series starts? And even then she wasn’t framed kindly but the narrative still cared for her and allowed readers to love her.
What I have noticed when it comes to like Jason and fanon shipping is that the age gap problems always seems to be a problem for one ship but never for others. It’s like a selective fandom thing when like you see ships like JayRoy (age gap), JayArtemis (age gap, I mean she’s what 130+? or does Amazonian ages not apply to her?), JayKyle I’m not too sure about but there’s also that DonnaKyle ship so like how old is Kyle? But all are widely more acceptable than another certain ship. This is not like a defense or anything just something I noticed and I know you don’t ship any of these but it is just a fandom thing that caught my eye. And then you have characters like Talia and Bruce (age gap there) where you can talk about Bruce having a little of that upper hand and not really realizing where Talia might be coming from? Talia is actually interesting when you think of her age gap compared to Bruce and how she has been portrayed since the turn of her character.
Wait sorry. Gen was approx 10 in The Thief while Irene would have been 17/18.
eugenides is 15 in the thief! and he's about 18 by the time he finally returns to attolia to woo irene over in the queen of attolia. i think it's thief! where he's 10 years old bc it's a prequel story. donna and kyle i'm pretty sure are in the same age group bc kyle tends to be grouped with her, wally, connor, etc. but yeah it can be really amusing sometimes to see what fandom criticizes and what it doesn't (and like even moreso when it comes to jason bc his ships have such a broad range). like i can't lie i'm very confused by people who condemn dickbabs for the age gap only to turn around and ship dinahbabs gdkgjghlf like at least be consistent!
but yeah i personally really love the brutalia age gap from a narrative perspective. it's obv unintentional from an editorial perspective and maybe even subconsciously racist in the sense of pairing up an older white man with a younger "exotic" foreign woman but it inadvertantly really emphasizes on the issues in their relationship and talia's isolation as a result thereafter. she's young and comparatively without power or agency so when bruce walks away she's often left with nothing to stand on except for an abusive father occasionally meanwhile he goes back to his mansion and support system over and over. it'd be a nice thing to explicitly explore were writers to ever care enough (and tangentially i think the batcat age gap also brings up some interesting inquiries with respect to their places within gotham's hierarchy of power)

youtube
This guy has to go and he says why here and he wants me to say nothing else and to leave it open-ended for his little God comment and God talk that's not what it's about see he's a failure and he can't hold it and he can't have it work but that's not why it's really simple he doesn't have any fear and his grandson does usually use someone helpful this person is zombie like and he wasn't always like this but he is now and he says he wants to free his son or grandson he's not freeing his grandson he's causing him problems what is very very simple he doesn't have fear there's some part of his brain was wrecked or something and he's now zombie like you can argue it and I wish you would but what you said was out he said he admitted it it's not afraid of you he's going to burn you and your hands he doesn't care and all this s*** and he doesn't have the AI he's just going around hurting people he is grabbing the computers the computers are controlled by something else and he doesn't have the ability to see what it is
Zues
I agree he has no fear of death and no fear of people no fear of the law there's different reasons why we're turning them and he's not remembering or is in pain or he can't think at all down at the park he started getting nervous people are all threatening him telling him to move now send me I mean my husband that is damn it look like he was going to go to the restroom and he sat back down and the guy was not allowed to look over using power that's the illusion that we've created about this guy and he's needed to go years ago he's gone he's a zombie he's out and the max are holding him here as a wild card being involved with him is like committing suicide
Hera
What's true is you should let him get crushed by a building because he's gone your father died he's got his brains got blown out several times Tommy f is gone he can't learn back what he needs he tried and he can't and he refuses to doesn't obey anybody he doesn't fear anybody and he's just whipping tongue just talking and talking it happened it happened to trouble while ago and the green zone you got his brains blown out and said it was his grandson and you can't stand that you're still alive inside and he got mad in the future this happens over several days and he does figure it out the guy is gone he's not my father anymore and he's lost it and Terry she's been said it I got to get away from him he's sick he's saying he has a weapon all the time he's a piece of crap and he's like a four year old child Jason is gone too my son is having a great time talking to us then they want to say something mean they're sick and don't understand the conversation. They're messing up their entire realm and people are not taking care of business
Thor Freya
I'm under such massive threats that I'm forced to take over the planet and I am including the max project and Saturn and nobody of your kind is going to have a thing because you want to leave 20 pieces of trash around take them somewhere else stick them into a prison put them in a mental hospital I don't care treat them humanely try and teach them see what they know see if it's a lie or not do something else is my recommendation you have very little time you're going to be under massive amounts of duress for this horse manure that doesn't do anything and most of it's caused by your max this guy doesn't seem to care or to know and he wants to go around doing whatever he wants maybe he thinks that people think he's a mac
Zues Hera
How's the up top in this part but really he's got those delusion that people think he's a Mac and he goes ahead and tells stupid s*** he won't stop doing it he wants to get Adam and he's doesn't know how to or yes it's really simple they don't know what he's got and it's like the clones and Tommy F should do the job because of the max who had him devastated and they're playing with you hey went to town on him a little and it costs
Thor Freya
Not a friend I'm a rebel and you should stay your distance and you don't and you should heed warnings and you don't and you're far too mean and you're going to expire because of your own people I don't have to lift a finger because you're violating all the laws that you have and they're written so you don't free someone like me and they can hear you and don't want you doing that either.
You don't understand do you this place will become glass I was gone to Utah already
Zues Hera
I'm sorry I get something they just don't want me here they want me to go off and try and become someone and stay away from the max or they won't let me he says okay well you must have a minute problem because they can't say that all of you are affected by you he says because then you'd be this too tonic force that can do something to him with him and they don't admit that stuff. There's got to be guys that he says that I agree that's got to be guys from stow in Concord and other places from sleepy hollow forwards and you keep bothering him and me about it it's like forced my other people and they're going after them and bothering the s*** out of them so we have to find out who they are

Riella has been pacing around in her room for quite some time now—a concerning amount of time, really. The Aphrodite kid has a lot of questions at the top of her head, and she doesn’t really know where to start. El and Jason has been concerned for their friend since the moment Riella resorted to her room after dinner.
“It can’t be,” Riella groans, talking to herself in the room. Her mother couldn’t possibly be right. She doesn’t want her to be right.
“You know what it means when you see someone else’s face in Eros and I, my darling. You know what.”
“Fucking hell,” Riella sits down, a little busy from the pacing. Could it be—
“Riella?” A knock is heard on her door. It’s clearly Jason on the other side. “Could you please talk to us? You’ve been acting so differently after seeing Aphrodite. Did she do something?” She sighs, putting a hand on her forehead in stress.
“It’s just the usual, Jason. She’s been teasing me again, and I got too worked up about it this time. It’ll pass.”
“It won’t pass if you’re stuck in the cabin like this. You gotta let us in. El’s here, too.” He mentions the girl, hoping it would incentivize Riella into opening the door.
“Riella, it’s El. Can’t you open the door for us?”
Riella thinks back to the conversation with her mother again. Could they understand?
“I… fine. But only so you two will stop nagging.” Riella relents. Slowly, the door creaks open and the two blondes come in, concern evident on their faces.
“Riella, I’m worried. You know I’m not the biggest fan of your mom.” El grimaces. Riella doesn’t blame her. Aphrodite had cursed her. “Is she trying to make you think bad things? You know that’s probably not true.”
“Something’s… wrong with me. I can’t see my mom’s face anymore. I only see someone else now.”
Jason stands, a perplexed expression on his face but he lets her talk. El looks worried. “I thought only the biological kids get to see her actual face. What do you mean you can’t see her?”
“That’s exactly the problem. But there’s a bigger problem to that, and it’s the fact that I can only see Percy in her all the time.”
The silence in the room feels deafening to Riella. Were they disappointed? She knows that Annabeth and Percy are— “Kid,” Jason’s face breaks into a grin. “That’s great! So you love Percy?”
“I—” Riella falters. She hates how hot her cheeks get at the thought. Percy, the man she had pushed into a river at twelve. Percy, the first person she’d allowed to touch her face. Percy, the one she had taken a sword for at sixteen.
Percy. Percy. Percy.
“It won’t matter.” Riella says, clearing her throat. “Percy clearly likes someone else,” she adds, the words leaving a bittersweet taste in her mouth. She loves Annabeth to death, but it still hurts. “Besides I can’t get in the way between them, that goes against my principles.”
“What principles are you even talking about, kid? You saw Percy in Aphrodite’s face, that’s more than enough to tell you that you really care about him and that you love him.” Jason points out. El quietly analyzes the conversation between the two of them.
“Have you even asked Percy who he really likes?”
“No, why would I-”
“Exactly.” Jason reinstates his point.
“Jason, I don’t think you’re hearing her out right.” El spoke up after careful consideration. “Honey,” she looks at Riella, “do you… do you think that you’re scared of pursuing him?”
The silence that follows is almost deafening. Riella has never said that fear of hers out loud—that fear that things will go wrong eventually, so she shouldn’t get into things in the first place. She knows Percy’s different. Percy isn’t like the other guys she’s fallen out with before. And still—
“Oh, sweetheart, come here.” Jason raises his arms, his voice gentle as always, and Riella allows herself to fall into Jason’s arms. “That fear is normal. You shouldn’t be ashamed of it.”
“I know.” Riella fiddles with the hems of her sweater. “And I know that Percy isn’t going to hurt me or take advantage of me. But… what if he gets tired of me? What if we’ll break up eventually?” She can see it in her head. The fights, the distance… she doesn’t want it to happen. Not with Percy. Never with Percy.
“Kid, you’re taking this the-”
Riella suddenly goes quiet and stands up, moving away from Jason’s embrace. Her eyes travel quickly left and right across the room, as if in deep thought. Jason and El look at each other and hope the other would say something. Not a single word came out of their mouths. Riella sighs.
“You know what? Never mind. It… it really doesn’t matter. Why did I even tell you two, it’s not a big deal. I can get over Percy anyway. I’ll,” Riella pauses between the fast sentence she spat out, “I’ll be fine. Anyways. I gotta go.” She quickly walks to the door and leaves the room with her head down, not even caring who she bumped into.
“Shit.” Jason exclaims. “Shit indeed.” El said.
As if on cue, Percy walks through the door. His eyebrows are scrunched with a puzzled look on his face. “Did something happen to Riella or was she being weird today? Couldn’t even look at me all day.”
Jason and El look at each other awkwardly, unsure of how to approach this.
“Did she?” Jason tilted his head, El trying so hard not to sigh. Jason was never a good actor.
“Yeah, I—” Percy waved his hand. “Anyways, I wanted to talk with her. I couldn’t answer her text earlier since I was with Annabeth.”
“Oh,” El says. She feels Jason shift beside her. “What were you two doing?” she asks.
Percy smiles in that sheepish, cheeky way of his. “Well, you wouldn’t believe it. I brought Annabeth out on her first date. She finally got convinced to get into dating! Athena came to me in a dream and gods was it disturbing, but she kind of said she was scared Annabeth was going to die alone. Pretty weird of a concern for such a powerful daughter, but—”
Jason and El couldn’t seem to process the rest of Percy’s rant. All they were fixated on is that—
“So you two are not dating?” Jason asks, his voice laced with both anticipation and excitement.
Percy’s eyebrows furrow. “No. We never were?”
El stands up and proceeds to smack Percy by the shoulder, repeatedly. “You are an absolute idiot, Perseus! And I won’t forgive you for it!” Percy tries to block her hits but he is unsuccessful. Jason hurriedly stands up and takes his girlfriend’s hands off of him.
“El, stop it! He doesn’t know!”
“What do you mean?” Percy eyebrows crease. Jason and El look at each other before they look back at him, the latter talking first. “You should… go look for Riella. It’s not our place to tell.”
He perks up at the mention of Riella. Come to think of it, she was pretty upset about something.
“She didn’t look happy to see me, though.” Percy frowns, and the thought leaves a heavy feeling in his chest.
“Well of course she wouldn’t,” El grumbles. “Percy, talk to her. There’s something you need to figure out.”
Percy’s frown deepens. What the hell did she mean?
“I’ll go find Riella. Don’t worry about her, I got this. She’ll talk to me for sure.”
Riella was in a sandstorm of emotions. She really didn’t like how everything is playing out so far. She’s scared to her wits end about herself, about Annabeth, about Per—
“Ella? P? We need to talk.”
Goddamnit. Riella thought to herself. She really can’t deal with talking to Percy right now, let alone even seeing him. “Perce? This isn’t a good time right now, I need you to leave.”
“Ella darling,” Percy says, and he says it so softly that it hurts. “Please let me in.”
“Aren’t you tired? You’ve been driving all day.” Riella tries not to sound too bitter, but some bitterness still slips in. He was with Annabeth. Of course he was. They’re so good together and—
“Ella, I will never be tired when it comes to you. Please let me in.” Percy begs, his hand in a fist as he knocks on the door again. “This is about us, Ella.”
“Fucking hell, Percy!” Riella opens the door. “What do you want?”
“Ella, please.” Percy’s expression looks unreadable. “Can we talk?”
Riella looks at him. She hates how perfect he looks—how he looks like everything she’s ever wanted in a partner.
Shut it, Riella. You’re an Aphrodite kid. You can’t fall too easily.
“Percy, what do you want?” She feels a little guilt as she hears the coldness in her voice, but she can’t help it. She has to protect herself while she can. What would others say if they found out she likes Percy?
“You’re upset. Upset with me. Could you please tell me what’s wrong, darling?”
Riella sighs as she rubs a hand across her forehead in resigned frustration. “Come in first. I don’t want anyone to hear any of this.” She gives way for Percy to enter, and he immediately complies. She closes the door behind her and he takes a seat on one of the chairs sprawled out.
“Any time now.” Percy comments, looking up at his girl. He can’t decipher Jason and El’s words properly earlier after he dropped off Annabeth. Was Riella really keeping something from him?
Riella keeps her look away from Percy’s calculating gaze. She doesn’t want him to know just by staring at her. She needs to ease herself into telling him that she isn’t worth it. That she accepts him and Annabeth together. She takes a breath in before asking, “How are you and Annabeth these days? Heard you took her out recently.”
Percy’s face seems to morph into something similar to realization. “I—we’re good? We’ve always been.”
Riella feels her heat fall, but she forces herself to power through it. She will not allow herself to become heartbroken again. “Oh.”
“I mean, we’ve always been good friends. That’s why I dropped her off at her date. It’s with someone she met at university.” Percy comments like it was nothing to Riella.
Wait. Good friends? Annabeth dating someone from her university? So—
Riella blinks, and she speaks before her brain can even construct the words. “You mean you?”
A smile seems to tug at Percy’s lips. “I mean I’m not dating her, Riella, because I like someone else.”
Riella thinks her heart is about to break again, but there’s something about Percy’s look—something that fills her with the slightest bit of hope. “And that person is?”
“Well, I’m standing right in front of her,” Percy’s smirking now, “and I realized I’ve been an idiot for not confessing earlier. So can I do that now?”
Disbelief and sadness is eating up Riella’s soul bit by bit. Does he think this is some joke?
“Percy, that’s not funny.” Riella blankly tells him. “Not when I’m standing here, making up my mind that I was gonna let go of my feelings for you and-”
Percy softens at this. “Hey, Riella, I’m not kidding. I—I understand why you may think otherwise, but I would never play around with your feelings like this. You’re too precious to me.”
“There it is.” Riella hates the familiar burning in the back of her head—she doesn’t want to cry. “There you fucking go again, Jackson, being your perfect ass and too far from my reach. I don’t believe it. I don’t believe you. You never gave me a sign all these years. Yes, I appreciate our friendship, but that’s all I thought it was! And that’s all I thought you believed it was.”
“Ella, calm down-”
“You don’t get to tell me to calm down when it hurts trying to even forget everything we did together.” Riella coldly states. She doesn’t have the willpower to cry like this in front of Percy, but the tears still flow. She sniffs, and he tries to come closer to her but she takes a step back.
“Fuck.” Riella turns away from Percy, afraid that she’s shown him enough of herself—scared that she might drive him away even more
“Riella, love, breathe.” Percy sits down on one of the chairs. He’s so fucking gentle. “Please.”
Riella forces her breath to steady. Eventually, she sits back down with him.
“Perce, you don’t understand.”
“Then I will try to.” Percy rubs her hand with his thumb. “Will you let me?” He begs, and he really wants her to let him in her heart. They both know he can take care of her better than any other guy could.
Riella gulps. This was the part where she spills herself to him. Can she handle the vulnerability? She sighs through her nose and begins to talk.
“I pride myself in not letting anyone get to me and keep me out of focus, whether for fun or for all seriousness. I had a goal to not let something like a crush put me in harm, even though I know it’s okay to have one—I mean, you’ve seen Jason and El.”
“Okay,” Percy says encouragingly, “and that’s why you were afraid?”
“Yes,” Riella all but squirms in her seat. “I didn’t—want to lose you or myself. And knowing how dangerous how lives are and how… well, you’re the demigod savior practically, I didn’t want to risk anything.”
Percy softens at this. “Riella, I’m not a savior.”
“But you are. A shit ton of people look up to you, and for good reason.”
“Baby, a savior still needs saving. You gotta know that.” Percy spoke, while Riella was wiping her tears. “Even if I am what you call a demigod savior, we can’t deny the fact that I can’t do everything. But that doesn’t mean you’re gonna lose me that easily.”
Against her will, Riella finds herself blushing. She hates how easily Percy flusters her. Nobody else had that effect on her. “Percy, you know those kinds of words won’t get to me that easily.”
“I do know that.” Percy takes her hands now. She feels the callousness of his palms, all healing scars from past battles. “And I understand your feelings completely. But Riella, P, you would never lose me. If there’s something I’ve come to realize in these past years, it’s that I haven’t felt for anyone the way I’ve felt for you. I—god, Riella, when I see you I go weak. Yes, I’ve been an idiot for being so oblivious, but when I figured it out, I just knew. I knew it was you.”
Percy risks a glance at Riella. Riella, who is still too stunned to speak, urges him to continue.
“And… besides, if there’s anything that will confirm my feelings aside from what I already know, it’s the gods’ themselves. Your mom… when I met her, I saw you. Only you.”
Fuck. So he knew even way before?
Percy’s eyes looks down on the outline of Riella’s lips, staring intently before looking back up. She really is pretty like this, no wonder she’s Aphro’s kid.
“Hold on, there’s one thing I don’t understand.” Riella says as she stands up once again from her chair. Pacing around is her usual thing, Percy supposes. He remains seated in his chair, however.
“What is it, darling?”
“What does P even mean? You’re making me sound like a frozen vegetable that you put on your face when you get beat up.” Riella crosses her arms, completely confused. Percy smiles, knowing that she hasn’t figured out this little secret of his. “Come here and I’ll tell you, you’re too far. You’re pacing again.” he asks her.
Riella rolls her eyes, but follows him anyway. How can she even say no to him at this point? “Humor me, Perseus.” She stands between his legs, looking down at him and waiting for an answer. Heat rises to her face another time when he lovingly places a hand on her waist, guiding her to sit on one of his thighs.
“I knew at one point you’d ask me that. To keep it simple,” Percy pushes some of her hair over her shoulder, his palm against her cheek and thumb drawing circles on the skin. Riella instinctively leans to the touch.
“It means pretty. The very first time I saw you enter the camp, I thought you were pretty. Since I never knew your name in time, I just kept calling you pretty in my head. Until I did get your name, and started calling you P.”
“And trust me, P,” Percy sits up, getting a better view of his Riella. “You look very—” closer.
“Very,” The two are mere breaths away from each other’s faces.
“Pretty.” Was the last thing Percy said against Riella’s lips before sealing their love with a gentle kiss.
It feels like bliss, Riella thinks. She’s liked Percy for years. She never thought she would get this chance—to get to call him hers.
“So,” Percy hums softly as they lean back, his hand gently placed around her waist. “Let’s make it official. Would you like to be my girlfriend, my darling, pretty, Riella? There’s no one else I’d rather be with than with you.”
“If my 12 year old self was here, she’d slap you, you know. Good thing you’re cute.” Riella scoffs. “But yes, I would love to.”
“I’m more than cute, baby. You know that. Actually we both know that.”
