Yeah so Our Flag Means Death is one of the best things I've watched in years. I finished it earlier in the week and I'm still fucking obsessed. It's just. I'm not sure how they manage to make it so vulnerable and meaningful and diverse without labouring it, without it being an afterthought or a "quota" (as the boomers say!) but everyone should be taking lessons in how to do it. It's so refreshing to see and so fucking good. Everything should be like this. The whole cast were brilliant (as I'm sure were the crew but obvs don't get to see all the great work they do!) and it was funny and touching and I'm obsessed with Ed and Stede and will be forever. Thank you goodnight.

Sleepy morning Ed has Stede Tunnel Vision until he has his seven sugars.

(ID in alt and under cut)
ID: 1. Full body shot of Stede sitting on the couch in the captains quarters, dressed in a waistcoat, cravat, and breeches. He smiles, leaning forward to set down his tea cup on the coffee table as Ed staggers in at the edge of the frame. Stede says, “Oh! Good morning, Ed!”
2a. Reverse shot shoulders up of Ed in a nightshirt, hair messy and still looking half asleep. Stede continues off screen: “Come take a seat!” Ed thinks to himself, “Seat?” 2b. Second smaller shot of Ed looking down, noticing something. 2c. A close up of Stede’s lap from panel 1, colors inverted and all the lines gone liquid and wobbly as Ed’s sleepy eyes zoom in. He thinks triumphantly, “Seat!” With a pink heart.
3. Full body shot of Stede on the couch, rearing back in surprise as Ed, exclaiming “Don’t mind if I do!” plops directly down onto his lap. Ed is wearing small cloth shorts under his hiked-up nightshirt and has both bare legs folded on either side of Stede and both arms wrapped around his neck, face buried in the crook of his shoulder opposite the viewer. Stede’s pink and panicked expression is in the forefront, hands raised as if trying to avoid touching Ed’s legs.
4. Zoom out to reveal Olu, Lucius, and Buttons sitting on the other couches around the coffee table, which holds Stede’s cup and a teapot. Olu is lounging on the left, turned sideways with one leg folded up and one elbow on the backrest. His other hand is holding a cup of tea and he is grinning teasingly at Stede and Ed. Lucius is on the right, one leg folded over the other, and continues writing in Stede’s journal as he smirks over at his captains. Buttons sits beside him stock-still and staring. Ed, still slumped over Stede in a loose embrace, begins to snore. Stede’s face continues to get redder and his hands fly around nervously as he stutters “Ed, Ed! Um, wake up, darling! Ed!”

5. The same comic, all together in one image. /end ID

Can we note that the little plant they commandeer from the boat at the start of the pilot is fucking thriving by the time it's used as evidence in "Act of Grace"? Like, Stede or the crew or all of them have been watering and tending to that little thing for months.

This is entirely why Ed and Stede are made for each other. No one else could ever put up with them as their unfiltered selves for more than five minutes at a stretch. Not only can they put up with each other, they MAKE EACH OTHER WORSE.
Love story of all time.

Izzy getting into baking and being instantly good at it - the first time he's actually been effortlessly great at something - and he literally can't understand why people find this so hard, I mean it's just following precise instructions?

Sorry but I just love the sexy red suit scene because Stede is there looking in the mirror, feeling himself and thinking “I’M SO FUCKING HOT RIGHT NOW… maybe I’ve always been this hot? Oh yeah, I’m a sexy bitch!” And Izzy is there right behind just like… a piece of furniture with a voice as far as Stede’s concerned.
Stede’s object permanence when it comes to Izzy is just like … “I don’t care if you’re here or not, I’m gonna check myself out all day, whatever. If my boyfriend was here we’d be smooching in front of the mirror so could see how hot I look when I do it.”

So, yeah, a good bit of Izzy’s resentment of Ed is that Izzy “saved” Ed from the English (by purchasing him) and Ed decided that he’d rather save Stede’s life. Izzy crafted this narrative in which he sold them out, then moved in to rescue Ed and make him beholden to “Captain Hands” and Ed rejected it entirely.
And Izzy brings it up in the cabin scene: “I should have let the English kill you.” Never mind that Izzy himself was the one who brought the English in; he still would style himself as Ed’s white savior, the sole thing standing between Ed and death. His LIFE belonged Izzy, and he was insufficiently grateful for what Izzy so graciously bestowed on him. He would rather give himself to save Stede.
Ohhhhh, the layers.

really love how the women in ofmd are just as weird, gross, conniving, immature, emotional, stupid, complex, badass, toxic, and human as the men. literally the only missteps are no anne/mary kiss and forcibly shaving archie's pits.

Just got done rewatching This is Happening. And the end of the episode with full Shakespearean villain Izzy makes so happy. Hair skewed, boding Shakespearean speech, getting hit in the face with the sandwich. Bless Con's comedic timing.
