Kwanzaa music

...is very hard to come across.

There are a few albums out on the major music streaming sites. But I'll admit, nothing really worth talking about.

I think my problem with most Kwanzaa music is that all too often, it sounds like Holiday Music, or it sounds so traditional that it's too hard to really get into.

So instead of trying to find Kwanzaa music, I went through the music I already like, music I was already raised on, and tried to identify what gives me an overall Kwanzaa vibe.

Honestly, I don't expect everyone to like it, or for the playlist to get popular. There's only 15 songs on it. But it's as close as I can get to finding music that really captures the essence of Kwanzaa, at least to me.

Okay, another few questions:

1, how old were the original five X-Men at their introduction? 2, how old were they (OG team) when Banshee and the other "new X-Men" joined Cyclops in stopping Krakoa? And 3, how old were the original five when M-Day happened?

Sorry, these are details I just want to know for myself. Hope you don't mind the questioning, and keep up the good work!

According to [Uncanny] X-Men #1, Bobby Drake was sixteen when the team made its public debut. Furthermore he describes himself as a "couple" of years younger than his friends. We also know that Hank is somewhat older than Scott, Warren, and Jean. So, the short answer to your first question is: Bobby is 16, Warren, Scott, and Jean are 18, and Hank is probably 18 or 19.

It's not specifically clear whether Bobby is literally two years younger, or if "couple" is being used in a more figurative sense. I think it's safe to take at face value though, given that he is clearly presented as a member of their age cohort (along with Lorna and Alex); is meant to be reasonably close to the same age as Peter Parker and Johnny Storm (who should also be in the same general range as the original X-Men, as they were all teenagers at the same time); and lastly when Claremont revived the X-Men publication years later, Bobby was depicted as now comfortably a young adult, finishing up his accounting degree, at the same time that Jean was dealing with her first job drama, and Warren was off with the family business.

I also think it's safe to guess Hank is no more than a year older than the others. He's treated as a peer of his teammates rather than as a helper to the Professor, and seems comfortable as a member of the group even outside of X-Men training. Hank's more advanced academic pursuits with respect to his teammates are also shown to be a product of his intelligence and not simply him being in a more senior class, which I think furthermore point to him being loosely their age.

Later authors have occasionally given different ages to the first team, or at least to Scott. Bendis, who wrote them for the longest, identifies the younger Scott as sixteen when he first comes face to face with his modern counterpart (Uncanny X-Men volume 3 no. 12). In Matt Fraction's inexplicably titled Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men: Exodus, Scott gives a televised speech in which he claims to have joined the X-Men at age 15. And in Stuart Moore's X-Men Origins Cyclops, Scott is shown to have first met Charles when he was 17 (which works), but he also dates X-Men #1 as taking place when Scott was 21 (which contradicts every other version of the story).

I think it makes the most sense to just go with the original story, and take 18 as the team's median age. I think you could also just as well argue that the 15-17 number isn't in contradiction per se, but only reflects Scott's age when Charles started training him, or even when he first became Cyclops, and not his age in X-Men #1 when Jean joined the team and they confronted Magneto for the first time.

I know some fans also feel that the Bendis' run discounts the possibility that they're in their late teens, because he writes them so young, but I think that's kind of ridiculous. Bendis writes everyone like that, and in any case people are basically the same at 14 as they are at 34, so how much more mature does anyone get from 16 to 18, really?

I think having them remain (mostly) at 18+ is the most plausible reading of the original run, and the most consistent with their general dislike of Charles recruiting actual child soldiers in later classes, and as well with Marvel's editorial policy that the X-Men have existed for ten years in-universe in perpetuity and are now just shy of 30.

Second question: Their ages later on, when the All-New, All-Different team first formed aren't given directly, but they're easy to work out.

So, at time of first death, Jean was 24ish depending on when her birthday falls in the year. Scott and Warren are the same age, Bobby is two years younger, and Hank is probably around 1 year older.

How much time passes between Jean's introduction to Storm, Thunderbird, Wolverine, Banshee, etc and her death isn't specified, and during his first run, Claremont tried to maintain a pretense of everything occurring in real time, but already it had started to become untenable and can't be trusted.

At the time of Jean's death, the core Claremont trio of Storm, Wolverine, and Nightcrawler are still very early in getting to know each other as people, despite spending a lot of time together on page. So I think it's very likely that only a few months have passed between the new recruits joining the team and when Jean died and the remaining original X-Men make their departure. So I would just treat the Dark Phoenix Saga as taking place in the same year as the first mission to Krakoa, with Jean/Scott/Warren remaining 24 throughout.

Third question: To get to their ages at M-Day, I need to do something cataclysmically stupid. Something that I always tell everyone to never do when talking about the X-Men: I have to talk about how old Kitty Pryde was. She who has had three separate, non consecutive, fifteenth birthdays; and she who, famously, began the 1990s three years older than Jubilee, but still managed to end the decade two years younger than her. But, for once, bringing her into things is going to make everything else make more sense.

In X-Treme X-Men we're told directly that Kitty joined the X-Men five years ago. This is useful to know, because she joined the team on the exact same day that Jean died, so it has also been 5 years since that happened. X-Treme X-Men takes place at the same time as New Mutants volume 2, later to be relaunched as New X-Men: Academy X, which documents the first academic year of the Xavier School post its outing as a mutant boarding school. The two books ran parallel to one another and reference the same events in the lives of the original New Mutants.

Academy X concludes during the House of M crossover itself, and with the depiction of the typical US/Canadian school dances, and the inclusion of a year book issue, I think it's reasonable to conclude that the entire Academy X era takes place over about one full school year. So adding that together, M-Day should fall around 6 years after Jean's first death, making her, Scott, and Warren around 29-30, Hank 30-31, and Bobby 27-28.

If you want corroboration while also having the chance to experience a desperate urge to kick something, here's a cropped out section of the House of X/Powers of X timeline.

My version has a type mistake, where years 49 and 50 were incorrectly reversed. Genosha should be year 50, and Moira's "death" at 49. (IIRC later print editions fixed this) M-Day and Decimation would happen in year 51. The Year 47 event references the storyline beginning in Jim Lee's X-Men #1, and so the formation of the Claremont X-Men would likely be in Year 45 or 46. Scott and co being 30ish at Year 52, and working backwards...It actually all kind of lines up?

Which I hate! I hate that it works. It forces you to accept that everything after M-Day occurs over the course of just one single year. And it's so annoying that it's actually kind of possible, when you remember how much everyone loved decompressed storytelling in those days, and subsequently how almost nothing actually happened for a decade and a half of comics. But still! That's so ridiculous! Why do they do this!

[Astrology Is A Sin ]

Astrology tells us we don’t need God, that all our answers are in the stars. But God warned the Israelites about sorcery and divination and commanded them not to imitate any of the detestable ways of the Canaanites. In Deuteronomy, God plainly says that anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord.

In 1 Samuel 15:23, God compares divination to rebellion and arrogance, calling it the “evil of idolatry.”

Anything we place before God is an idol. It can be something totally innocuous, but if it replaces God, it becomes sinful for us (Exodus 20:3).

The Bible explains this well in Isaiah 47:13:

“All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you.”

Since we’ve already learned that astrology wisdom is not complete, do we really want to hold its hand for the next month, or the right hand of He who knows everything, including the number of hairs on our head?

We know Satan roams around the earth, searching for who he can devour. Many people get snared in his trap by seemingly good things. But anything that moves you away from light is moving you toward darkness. Satan knows that our flesh will do whatever will make us feel better, and he knows how to lure us in a particular direction.

So, while astrology can enlighten us as we discover so many coincidences and similarities, remember that Satan is a liar. He knows a lot of things about us, but he does not know God or what God has planned for us. He tells us half-truths. Like Eve tasting the fruit because it helped attain wisdom and looked good, we can do the same with astrology, not realizing until it’s too late the consequences of that decision.

If we truly trust in God alone, we know He works all things for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). All things have meaning, even the things that look unfair in this world. Eve thought she was missing out by not getting to eat all the fruit, but the Lord knew better.

So, if we trust God, why do we need to check another source to find answers? The Bible warns us not to bow down and serve anything aside from Him.

“And beware lest you raise your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, you be drawn away and bow down to them and serve them, things that the Lord your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.” Deuteronomy 4:19

God tells us in James 1:5 that if we lack wisdom we should ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach.

If you ask me if, as a Christian, if we should follow astrology, my answer would be no. God’s Word says in Psalm 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye on you. With God’s Word as a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105), the only sign I want to claim is a child of God.

Who is....Ruth Aldine | Blindfold? A Reading Guide

Ruth Aldine in an X-Men affiliated mutant from Marvel comics first introduced in 2004. She was born with no eyes or open eye sockets and due to her mutant condition her father left her, her mother, and her older brother only a week after her birth. Spending her childhood tormented by her abusive older brother, Ruth would eventually find freedom and happiness only after her mother had died protecting her from her brother's attempt on her life. Now living with her aunt, Ruth would begin to teach herself to harness and control her extensive mutant powers, but her brother's execution would result in him stealing half of her powers and her being sent to the Xavier Institute, where she first received her codename, Blindfold.

Ruth is currently the girlfriend of Professor Xavier's son, David Haller, and does not have a corporeal form on Krakoa, instead living inside of David's head. David has however as of 3. May. 2023 blinked himself out of existence and Ruth's fate is unknown.

Ruth was born in North Carolina and it is implied that she is from the Appalachian region of the state!

The first signs of the Age of X appeared in X-Men: Legacy #244; the events were removed from the Earth-616 mainstream continuity, with no memories of the alternate lives. If you've taken a look at my David Haller Reading List you'll see this event explained as "David’s desire to be loved forces him to grapple with reality," and as a story that "places David in a role where he has to choose between a false universe where he is considered a beloved hero and reality where he must choose to be a hero despite the fear others feel about him." Ruth's appearances here are still pretty connected to the X-Men: Legacy (2008) plotline we've been following now for a bit.

Curse of the Mutants

In what can only be described as the "oh shit we've run out of ideas" last resort of any creative company putting out too many crossover events in a short period of time..... the X-Office put out Curse of the Mutants. The arc centers on a human bomb exploding in San Francisco's Union Square, covering dozens in vampire-converting blood. It then becomes the mission of the X-Men to track down Dracula's son Xarus, now "Lord of the Vampires", even if that means enlisting vampire-hunter Blade. Yeah.... I don't know either.

Schism and Regenesis

Schism follows the break-up of the X-Men at a moment of peak anti-mutant sentiment. Regenesis is the period of regrowth and reorganization following Schism.

We offer many, often contradictory, readings of a story in each episode. "Moses went up to the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. ...Moses went into the midst of the cloud and went up to the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain for forty days and forty nights." (Exodus 24:15, 18)

When we talk about clouds, there are actually two different kinds of clouds, spiritually speaking. You have the oppressive cloud, which has many in bondage. Then you have the cloud of His glory that manifests the Holy Spirit in and upon our lives. The good news is that you get to pick which cloud is going to be upon your life. God wants you tuned-in to His frequency, as you allow His bright glory cloud of light to envelope your life. In the beginning God said, "Let there be light" (Genesis 1:3)! When you speak through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, there is power to shift atmospheres from darkness to light.

Your voice is ordained to carry the prophetic power of God's Spirit, like a sword, to decree and manifest His Kingdom and will in the earth. Because of this, there is always an attack on your ability to praise, prophesy and release God's presence through your voice. God is wanting to invade the earth through your voice!

Without the prophetic, there is no assault from the enemy because there is no threat. There is no threat because there is no voice speaking the oracles (the divine utterances) of God (1 Peter 4:11).

Connect with God in the cloud of His glory. Be inspired by His Spirit. Stir the river of His Spirit inside of you and welcome the cloud of His glory upon you. Then speak and shift atmospheres, even your own situations, by proclaiming His divine utterances under the unction and anointing of His Spirit. Speak as one sent by Him to shift things on earth so they come under the transforming influence of Heaven.

Out of Egypt I Called my Son

1 For Israel was a child, and I loved him; and from Egypt I called my son. (When Israel was a boy, I loved him; and I called my son out of Egypt.)

The Rebellion of the Waters

On the second day of Creation, God tore the upper waters from the arms of the lower waters amidst great weeping, and the upper waters were suspended in the heavens by word of God. On the third day, when God said, “Let the waters be gathered together” (Gen 1:9), the mountains and hills were raised up and scattered, and deep valleys were dug in the earth, into which the waters rolled. As soon as they had gathered together, the waters be-came rebellious, rising up almost to the Throne of Glory, and covered the face of the earth.But God rebuked the waters and said “Enough!” and subdued them beneath the soles of His feet. He trod down on them so that the air came out of them. When the rest of the waters saw how He had trampled the ocean, and heard its terrible cry, they fled. Even though they were seething, there was nowhere for them to go but to the sea. Therefore God surrounded the sea with sand, and measured it with the hollow of His hand, and made the sea swear that it would not go beyond the boundary He had set, as it is said, Who set the sand as a boundary to the sea (Jer. 5:22). Some say that God not only circled the sea with sand, but caused it to dry up, in accord with the verse He rebukes the sea and dries it up (Nah. 1:4).

This midrash draws a link between God’s separation of the upper and lower waters on the second day (see “The Upper Waters and the Lower Waters,” p. 104) and the gathering of the waters on the third, suggesting that the waters rebelled because of their anger at their recent separation. This midrash also comments on Psalm 93:3: The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice, the floods lift up their roaring. God’s quelling the rebellion of the waters clearly echoes the struggle between Marduk, the rain god of Babylon, and Tiamat, the personification of primeval waters in the Babylonian epic, Enuma Elish. This epic struggle (also found in other Near Eastern texts) is hinted at in the Genesis creation narrative, where tehom, the deep, echoes Tiamat. The parallels to the Babylonian myth can be seen in the following passage from Enuma Elish, from Near Eastern Mythology by John Gray, 1969, p. 32:

The Lord trod on the legs of Tiamat With his unsparing mace he crushed her skull. When the arteries of her blood he had severed, He split her like a shell-fish into two parts; Half of her he set up and sealed it as sky, Pulled down the bar and posted guards. He bade them not to allow her waters to escape.

Exodus Rabbah 15:22 makes clear that the ocean was not only trampled by God, but slain: “Then God trampled upon the ocean and slew it.” This text is sometimes intepreted to mean that God slew its prince, Rahab. The reference to the hollow of God’s hand comes from Isaiah 60:12. See the following myth, “The Rebellion of Rahab.”

In Likutei Moharan 1:2, Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav interprets God’s command of “Enough!” to stop the expansion of the world as referring to the creation of the Sabbath. The Sabbath, in effect, stops the work of the six days of the week.

The Rebellion of Rahab

When God desired to create the world, He said to Rahab, the angel of the sea: “Open your mouth and swallow all the waters of the world.” Rahab replied: “Master of the Universe, I already have enough.” God then kicked Rahab with His foot and killed him. And had not the waters covered him, no creature could have stood his foul odor.

The traditions about God slaying Rahab grows out of Isaiah 51:9, Are you not he who cut Rahab in pieces, and wounded the dragon? and Psalms 89:10, You have trampled upon Rahab; you have scattered your enemies with your strong arm. This midrash is also based on Job 26:12: By His power He stilled the sea; by His skill He struck down Rahab. This myth is another version of “The Rebellion of the Waters,” which describes the struggle between God and tehom, the deep, and thus also echoes the battle between Marduk and Tiamat in the Babylonian epic, Enuma Elish. However, Tiamat is a feminine figure, while Rahab is masculine.

In Enuma Elish Marduk uses Tiamat’s body to build a new world, using half to make the heavens and half to make the earth. He uses considerable violence in defeating Tiamat, as does God in defeating Rahab. Marduk crushes her skull with his club, splits her body in two, and scatters her blood in the wind. In the Hebrew myth, the waters are personified in Rahab, the Prince of the Sea, and instead of trampling the waters, God kicks and kills Rahab. There are hints in rabbinic writings that Rahab once had a great, godlike status. For example, it is stated in Deuteronomy Rabbah 2:28: “Rahab placed God in heaven and upon earth.” Although Rahab is killed in this myth, he reappears in later legends as the Prince of the Sea, and performs various deeds at the command of God or one of the rabbis. See, for example, Y. Sanhedrin 7:25d, where Rabbi Joshua ben Haninah calls upon Rahab to recover a lost charm, so that a spell can be broken.

Midrash Tanhuma tries to explain why God kicked Rahab, the angel of the ocean, who represents the ocean itself: “Why did God kill the angel? The rest of the waters, seeing that God kicked the ocean, and hearing its screams, fled without knowing where to flow, until they reached the place that God had prepared for them.” This violent act is thus explained as a way to force the recalcitrant waters to gather in the right places.See “The Rebellion of the Waters,” p. 105.

An alternate version of the Rahab myth found in the Prologue to the Zohar 56 explains that God’s tears, hot as fire, shed over the exile of the Shekhinah, fall into the Great Sea and sustain Rahab. And Rahab sanctifies God’s Name by swallowing all the waters of the days of Creation—the very act that Rahab refused to do in the other version of the myth, for which God killed him in anger. The moral of the two versions is clear: when Rahab refuses an order from God, he is slain; when he accepts the order, his life is sustained.

• The evil in the church, among the Believers, is not only about sexual sin.

- There are many hideous things that Believers do today without any remorse.

YOU see Believers living in blatant SINS, and such still have the guts to stand before the people to preach or teach the Word of God:

21 YOU TEACH OTHERS, SO WHY DON'T YOU TEACH YOURSELF? You tell others not to STEAL, but you STEAL. 22 YOU SAY THAT OTHERS MUST NOT TAKE PART IN ADULTERY, BUT YOU ARE GUILTY OF THAT [same] SIN. You hate IDOLS, but you STEAL FROM TEMPLES. 23 YOU BRAG ABOUT HAVING GOD'S LAW, BUT YOU BRING SHAME TO GOD BY BREAKING HIS LAW" (Romans 2:21–23 New Century Version).

- Such wallow in sin, and do not have the FEAR of God whatsoever. Those who work at the altar, those who are in the leadership of the church, are the ones who usually take God and His Word for granted (2 Timothy 3:5,7; Titus 1:16).

- The fact that you are working for God does not mean He is your equal! It does not mean you could do anything you like and go Scott free. As loving, caring and merciful God, is, so is He in judgement when you abused the grace given to you.

• Also, there are some who are not called to work for Him, but chose to take the honour to themselves:

"AND no one can become a high priest SIMPLY BECAUSE HE WANTS SUCH AN HONOUR. HE MUST BE CALLED BY GOD FOR THIS WORK, just as Aaron was" (Hebrews 5:4 NLT).

- They thought they have the resources to rent a Hall, or put up a structure, and gather people to listen to them.

- If you are not sure of God's call on your life, you would do well to stay with whatever you are doing for living.

- Ministry work is not what a person could simply take or do without being called into it (Exodus 28:1; Hebrews 5:4).

- Some gather people to pastor or be shepherded over, with the gifts received from the devil. Demons are the ones working with such people in the work they claimed to be doing for God—which they called a church.

- There are people like that who planted false churches, using demonic powers to lead the people who are there—under their leadership.

- God may have permitted such a place to be, for a number of years, but it does not mean the work is approved by Him:

13 THESE PEOPLE ARE FALSE APOSTLES. They are DECEITFUL WORKERS who DISGUISE themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 But I am not surprised! Even SATAN DISGUISES himself as an ANGEL OF LIGHT. 15 So it is no wonder that HIS SERVANTS also DISGUISE THEMSELVES as servants of RIGHTEOUSNESS. In the END THEY WILL GET THE PUNISHMENT THEIR WICKED DEEDS DESERVE [except they repent]"  (2 Corinthians 11:13-15 NLT).

- The fact that such churches are permitted by God to exist, probably they had existed for a number of years, and they pulling crowds; that does not mean He did approve them.

• Also, there are wrong people in the church, even in the genuine church of Jesus Christ, who work at the leadership positions; but they are working with demonic powers.

- Such people might be under those pastors who are not sensitive and discerning enough to know that some of the people around them are not clean, they are agents of the devil—who are in the church to do havoc.

- Jesus Christ the Owner of the church knew such people would be in the church, they are the mixed-multitudes, who are allowed to grow together with the genuine Believers; but would be judged at end; if they repented not:

24 ANOTHER parable He put forth to them, saying: “THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS LIKE A MAN WHO SOWED GOOD SEED IN HIS FIELD;

25 BUT while men slept, his ENEMY came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. 26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. 27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? The band announces today their live album British Disaster: The Battle of '89 (Live At The Astoria). 35 years after the recording the band decides to share this outstanding live performance with their fans. Recorded live at The Astoria in London back in March of 1989, EXODUS show once again why they are one of the biggest thrash metal bands of all time. Headbanging riffs, fast solos, and an amazing atmosphere are what can be expected from this live album which sees the light of the world on May 31st, 2024.

Be prepared for a much more aggressive and rawer sound than on the studio albums.
