I've started doing 1 on 1 mentorships and I'm loving it so much that I want to do more of it. I've currently got time for a couple more students.
My areas of expertise are:
Background Art
Digital Painting
Perspective Drawing
Visual Development for Animation
Illustration My previous projects include The Bob's Burgers Movie, The Cuphead Show, Helluva Boss. And below is some of my work! Please do not hesitate to contact me via DMs or email ([email protected]), even if you don't have much time or don't know exactly what you want to learn, I'd love to hear from you and I can work around your needs and wants! :)

The idea of mentorships is to tailor the curriculum to your skills and goals, while trying to keep it fun as well. I also do Portfolio reviews and artwork critiques, especially for Background art!
My current rate is 50USD per 1hr session, including homework, critique, general tips and resources. I'd also be more than happy to do it via email or Discord if preferred. Would greatly appreciate reblogs! ❤️

Laying The Foundation- 004
Today was focused on building upon the ideas of the previous lesson and drawing a landscape picture and a character starting with basic geographical shapes.
I was really happy with how the landscape picture turned out but I’m not so sure about the character. It took a lot of erasing and starting over to get the face to what I believed was an acceptable thing. I’m also not sure why I gave him a look of indifference considering he is about to strike someone down with a sword, but I guess he’s just having a bad day…
I’m going to take some time on the weekend to practice drawing characters and bring myself to a standard I believe is acceptable. Practice makes perfect, after all.

So after a bit of an internal debate, I have decided to create a second Instagram for my watercolour explorations - @soggyfish_watercolour Mostly because I don't want to confuse my main feed with my playing around with watercolor, when my focus is colour pencil. Feel free to join me over there if you want to watch me hopefully learn this very interesting art medium!

After a long long break, recently I went back to Paintable Digital Painting Academy and was very excited about new lessons - it was finally time for painting portraits and learning more about rendering. After finishing the first three portraits, as a homework assignment for this module, I decided to paint my favourite badass. ❤
I am very happy with the results and my progress after just a few lessons (well, if you ignore the break I took 🙈). Once again, I have only praise for DPA — the whole course is very detailed and well constructed, and the lesson videos are short, coherent and packed with useful information. Can’t wait to see what’s next and continue my learning journey. 🤩

have a huge backlog of sketchbook spreads to post, wonder if i’ll find the momentum to post them all. this was the first time in probably years since i’ve eaten pasta (because i was perpetually on low carb), and it was delicious. shared everything with the partner so we both can eat a bit of everything. food means so much to me.

Laying The Foundation- 006
Today was a small but important lesson. I went over more advanced techniques of highlight and shadow and how to use these on more advnaced and organic shapes.
The first task was shading a more complex 3D object which I feel I’ve nailed down now. The second task was bit more tricky; taking a 2D organic shape and shading it to give an illusion of 3D. It was hard to know where to shade and for a while I wasn’t seeing the effect but eventually I got it.
Task 3 stepped up the complexity. I was tasked with drawing a rock, which has different angles and faces on it. I had to decide where the top of the rock would be and then shade accordingly, adding other features like holes and cracks and divets. This was helpful as it seems that in real life there is going to be complexities like this in anything I would draw.
Task 4 was using highlight and shadow on a form made out of different shapes (a square, a cylinder and a sphere). I was really happy with how it turned out and found the techniques useful as again, real life objects are going to be more complex than simple geometric shapes.
Tomorrow I’m going to practice these techniques over some more objects, as well as go over some stuff I wasn’t 100% confident on over the week.
Enjoy your weekend!

Progress continues on building solid art fundamentals. I really skimped on the perspective practice so I'll be picking that up going forward and letting the gesture drawing take a back seat for a day or two. I've also followed @bluefley advice and copied artists I really like. To make sure they have the credit they deserve I've drawn the following: - the will and lying cat by @fionastaples - creepy boy by @oliviercoipel - hellboy by @matteoscalera No tracing involved so I'm really happy with how these turned out. Focus for the rest of the week is perspective work, more artist influence and some gesture drawing as warm up. Will try to post a more finished piece over the weekend, but time is limited so no promises. Have a great day whatever you're doing! . . . . . #learntodrawin1year #saga #learntodraw #gesturedrawing #procreate #art #artprogress #hellboy #magicorder #basicdrawing #drawing #illustration https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm_VBSBLHwc/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Study Session - Line work and Shading
Renaissance Drawing Studies:
Today I’m onto the third study of Leonardo da Vinci's Drawings. The more I do this exercise the more interesting it is. Once again, I am still a beginner in pencil drawing so I am not aiming for likeness here, but simply trying to understand something about the technique in the drawing and to see what comes out of the process at the end.
Prompt:  Block in the figure and replicate line work to draw in features and mass in shading.
Notes:
The drawing canvas was created to match the original dimensions of the artwork to make the process easier. HB pencil, 2B pencil and eraser. A pencil was used as a measuring tool, with the thumb sliding up and down to reference rough judgments of scale in the original artwork.
Study Notes:
✭・It was interesting to examine all the choices made by the artist and to practice line work and shading of course.
✭・Copying/studying these drawings has given me a deeper appreciation of Leonardo’s drawings, than just viewing them which I have done many times before.
✭・I think Leonardo’s Female head study for the Madonna of the Rocks c.1483, is among his most refined and lovely drawings
