Hello, hello my little lovelies,

So much to catch up on these days! Everyone all at once seemed to have some type of news to share with me. 

You all know being on the ice is meant to keep us all cool and level-headed, right? There were so many punches thrown at the ice skating event, not just once, not even twice, but three whole times. Eagan Connolly punched Huntsville Daily’s very own Samuel Ahn over what was reportedly, and unsurprisingly, something to do with that missing brother of hers again. If she keeps that attitude up no one is going to be willing to assist her. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, sweetheart. 

Seeming to take a cue from her is that wildchild from the Westfall family, Esther Westfall, who is just as short tempered as ever. They were seen punching one Eldon Harcourt, though he seemed to take it decently well, and didn’t engage into a full brawl. The same can’t be said for Joey Albright who fully attacked Louis Ryan and had to be pulled off him. Not exactly the behavior you’d expect from everyone’s favorite heartthrob but it seems love makes fools of us all. Let’s just hope that Hope Macgillivray is worth it. 

However, not everyone at the ice skating party was quick to come to blows. It seems that there are at least some of you who would rather make love than war. Jackson Miller was spotted getting cozy with Lavender Parsons, ending in what was apparently quite the steamy kiss, if my sources are to be believed. Now I know that some readers may be scandalized by this news, but I for one think it is wonderful that after everything she went through with her mother’s disappearance last year, Miss Parsons seems to be coming into her own as a young woman. All I can say is, be careful out there, men of Huntsville! There’s a new heartbreaker on the rise.

Here’s a toast to one town event being mostly a success with no serious incidents. Hopefully this is the start of a new and lighter year for all of us.

RECENT READ: I'm in the process of reading an INTENSE book that my bestie @bellecosebabe got me called "HeartSick" by Chelsea Cain. It has my favorite subjects in one: Unhinged Women, Murder, and Broken Men.

INSPIRATION: Heavy, heavy musical influence; I have varied tastes in a wide range of music, so as long as the music moves me, it's an inspiration for me. Bonus points for music from black and/or LGBTQ+ artists as a clear bias... Additionally, I'm constantly inspired by the video games I play and use that for framework/context/baseline for the situations I write and the character dynamics I want to portray. I'm also in love with retro aesthetics, ranging from the 70s-00s and often take inspiration from those eras.

STORY BEHIND URL: Okay, this is gonna be a long one so be patient with me. ORIGINALLY, this blog was heavily inspired by The Weeknd's recent album, Dawn FM, and although he's... weird. I do admit, the album is the foundational story of this multi-muse and most of the characters involved. Not only was this album a very critical album for my mentally ill brain last year, Dawn FM is described as a state of purgatory—a journey towards the "light at the end of a tunnel;" and that relates to themes I feel like hit this blog, and I'm hard pressed to say there isn't a song on this album that connects to one muse or another. Additionally, there's a lot of electro-synth pop, which is also fundamental aesthetics for most characters (Jacket's from the 80s, Lilah appeal to 70s styles, Terrah being raised in the 80-90s, etc.). THE URL is a play on a lyric in the song "Don't Break My Heart"; I like the idea of the blog being in the haze of night, where energies meld into a haze of mindless actions and heated emotions, trying to find something in the low lights. And that's just kinda fun to me with a lot of the characters in this blog... they're all trying to find something guiding them to the light... Also, it's a lavender light because I like the color purple. lmao.

BIOGRAPHY: 

lavender was born in london to a pureblood wizarding family. 

she was homeschooled by her mother until she started hogwarts, with the help of some other teachers and tutors. 

lavender came out as a trans woman when she was fifteen and had already started transitioning before she started hogwarts. 

due to being mostly homeschooled and an only child, lavender has somewhat poor social skills. her sometimes intense personality as well can make it difficult for her to make friends. sometimes people look down at her as being too silly and sentimental, and overly emotional. however when you get close to lavender you learn that she’s very sweet, creative, and a friend who will kill for you if you need her to. 

though shes majorly a very happy woman, she sometimes feels hurt when people underestimate her or treat her like a silly child just because shes a girl who likes pretty things and make up and cries a little bit too much. she knows a lot of her housemates feel that way and it makes her sad. 

her favourite class is divination.  

lavender is extremely excited about the triwizard tournament! its exciting and there’s lots of new people from all over europe to meet. so many cute boys, so many cute girls.

Sacha Guitry -- writer, director, and star -- is a charmer whose work was profoundly influential on French film. The word that occurs to me for Guitry's The Story of a Cheat is "droll." It reminds me of a Gallic version of those postwar Alec Guinness comedies, like Kind Hearts and Coronets (Robert Hamer, 1949) and The Lavender Hill Mob (Charles Crichton, 1951), in which people do criminal and even cruel things but the film remains lighthearted. It begins, after all, with the death of 11 people, all members of the protagonist's family, when he is 12 years old. Eventually, he is seduced into a life of thievery by three women. In the film, he is in his 50s, writing his memoirs at a table in a café, narrating the film in voiceover -- there is little actual dialogue. For those of us who aren't fluent in French and rely on subtitles, it's almost like a silent movie with a constant flow of title cards. .

Well i am both blessed and cursed to work at a barnes and noble so typically there. if not, i’ll go to one of the independent bookstores in my town, or order online thru bookshop.org. I try to avoid am*zon as much as possible, and usually the only time i buy on there is if: a. the author publishes thru amazon exclusively or b. i cant find it anywhere else at a decent price point

Not that I remember, to be honest! corny but ive been a reader since i was a small child so i dont know what really got me into it. all i know is that ive loved doing it for my entire life

Magic Tree House Dinosaurs at Dawn. i was a HUGE MTH kid (had books 1-30 at one point!!) and i distinctly remember reading that book in one of the little seat cubbies they used to have at the east mountain public library

9- When do you tend to read the most?

I commute via bus and its about a 30 minute ride so usually then, which tends to be mid afternoon. i also try to read before bed, depending on how tired i am. also, whenever i have days off i try to go sit on a bench at my favorite park or on campus and read for several hours in the evening. this gets me out of the house, gets me vitamin d, and lets me tackle my tbr.

15- Recommend and review a book

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang is a brilliant five star debut. It follows Fang Runin, a war orphan from the impoverished town of Tikany as she tests into an elite military academy. While there, she makes both friends and enemies and uncovers a world beyond our own and a power that she can barely comprehend. But these easy days don’t last, for the empire of Nikan is surrounded by enemies. As the story shifts from a simple coming of age to a brutal story about the horrors of war, Kuang is able to create emotional stakes that keep you glued to the pages and invested in the story. I read the last three hundred or so pages in one sitting, simply because i could not bear to leave the rest of the story for the morning. Rin is such a strong character, and one that i found myself empathizing with, even as she made the worst possible decisions (seriously babes genocide is NOT the answer). Her relationships with both Kitay and Nezha hurt me emotionally for different reasons, but one relationship that stands out above the rest is that with her commander and childhood crush Altan. Theres absolutely no way any sort of relationship with the two of them wouldnt be hella toxic, but damn did i understand rin’s feelings for and bond with him. The ending of the story had me wreaked in the most incredible and soul crushing way, and i could not wait to read The Dragon Republic. This isnt a book for everyone (seriously see the attached picture w all the trigger warnings) but its a book for me and one of my new all time favorites. Five out of five stars!

How they take care of you when you’re sick

GN! Reader

Frankie

When you wake up with the flue, Frankie is straight on the phone to your work saying you can’t come in. He will get you medicine, making sure you stay awake long enough to take it, before he cuddles you back to sleep no matter how much you protest because he will get sick too. When you are back in a deep sleep he will be on the phone to his mum, getting her to guide him through making the soup she used to make him when he wasn’t well. Once its ready, he will help you down to the couch, wrapping you up in blankets again, and feeding you the soup while watching the best-worst film you can think off to try and get some laughs from you.  

Din

As soon as you start not feeling well, Din puts you on a strict bed (bunk) rest. You find it funny that he is taking such care for you when he doesn’t let his own body rest for more than a second. Din pilots to the next planet, making sure its one with a good pharmacy at the market, but will be checking on you every five minutes before he ends up staying by the end of your bunk. He ends up crawling in, sitting up at the front with your legs across his lap as you fall into another sleep, making sure he’s there if you need him before he gets the medicine you need.

Marcus M

You know from the minute you wake up that you’re not feeling well, groaning as you turn off the alarm. Marcus notices straight away, his hand resting against your forehead to take your temperature and taking your phone to let your work know that you won’t be in before calling his own work to take the day off. He makes sure you’ve had enough water and medicine before taking Missy to school and when he comes back he brings in your favourite snacks and old movie in a hope to make you feel better. He sits by you on the bed, letting you rest against his chest as you watch some of your favourite films. This man will make sure that you’re drinking and eating enough to keep your energy up to feel better and will cuddle you as you nap whenever you fall asleep.

Whiskey

Whiskey will fuss over you more than you thought possible. When he comes home from work finding you stretched out on the couch with a cold compress to your head he will be straight by your side checking your temperature and asking how much you have eat/ drank today. He will be straight onto whipping up your favourite cheese toastie that he somehow manages to make taste like the most wonderful thing in the world before bringing you onto his lap and cuddling you for the rest of the night.

Dave

Dave doesn’t really know how to act when you walk downstairs still wrapped in the duvet and groaning and so he places some water and medicine on the table before leaving you to it. As the day goes on, he checks on you more and more before he finally lifts you head to sit on the couch with you and let you lie on his lap. He will be rubbing your head and scratching your scalp, laughing at how you lean into his touch like a kitten before falling asleep. He will stay like that until you wake up again, not moving in fear of disturbing you, before he will go and make dinner because you need to eat.

Oberyn

The minute you complain about not feeling well, Oberyn will have the best food and medicine ordered to your room with a strict no entry other than him. He will lie by your side, massaging your feet and hands in between feeding you food from your homeland and the best medicine to make you feel better. He will tell you stories of his travels to distract you from your sore head and as soon as you’re feeling better will walk you around the garden to get some fresh air.

Marcus P

When you text Marcus and let him know you are leaving work early because you don’t feel well he will be finishing up work as soon as possible to get home to you. He will bring in some soup and snacks, his heart breaking when he sees you cuddled up on the couch with a pout on your face. He makes you sit up, helping you eat the soup before going to run you a bath. He will fill it with some lavender to relax your muscles and sits at the side as you relax in it, massaging your hand that sides over the side as he hums along to the music that he put on. Tonight calls for an early night and so he will have you tucked into bed with reruns as he cuddles you to sleep.

Max

Sick? This is another reason you should let him turn you, he teases at first. When you physically can’t hold your head up anymore he carries you to bed, hovering as he isn’t quite sure what to do but he will try his best. He will be waiting on you hand and foot for whatever you need, telling you not to be silly when you don’t want to bother him. The best part about having a vampire boyfriend? When you are burning up from the temperature his cold body against yours is the best feeling ever.

“So you’ve met this Justicar?” Isaac stayed close to Eva as she led the way through the opulent lobby of the mansion. Ben and Luca trailed close behind and she saw Luca’s jaw drop out of the corner of her eye as he took in the tables covered in giant bouquets of fresh flowers and the warm, golden light filtering through crystal chandeliers. They had left the dusty streets and noisy crowds for  a whole new quiet world with sleek surfaces and lush comfort. She had never been here before but the tug of a familiar energy drew her a clear map.

She glanced at Isaac as they neared the tall glass doors. “Keros was a Huntress for 300 years before she decided to swear to the Code of the Justicars. But she still spends some of her time on Thessia training other Commandos. I was just lucky enough to be there during that time. She saw…something in me, I’ll never know what, and took me under her wing.  I say I was lucky because most biotics would kill to have a teacher like that. She’s…magnificent.” She glanced at him again and his eyes were questioning. “I’m stronger than most human biotics. But I would be considered weak compared to Asari, even ones that don’t train. But Keros is strong even compared to the most powerful Asari. For all that I can do by using my entire being, she could do with the snap of her fingers without taking an extra breath.” 

Eva smiled at the group. “So don’t piss her off.”

The air here smelled of jasmine and spices, scented oil misting from diffusers on small tables. Eva’s searching eyes took in the low, plush couches, the colorful rugs littering the smooth blue and white floors before spotting her. 

“Little mantis.” The Asari said the words before even turning from where she stood gazing out onto the city. Her cyan facial markings seemingly glowing florescent in the low light of the scattered lanterns. 

“I can’t believe it. Here of all places and now of all times.” Eva’s smile was pure exhilaration and it lit every single part of her face.

The Asari gave a small, casual shrug, her voice as smooth as butter. “The universe is a consciousness.” 

“And we are only a part of the greater whole.” Eva replied, moving down the few steps before making her way across the sunken courtyard. “Viz. I can’t even describe how good it is to see you again.” 

“Then allow me.” 

Eva chuckled, knowing what was coming before the Asari’s teal skinned hands lightly grasped her shoulders, eyes fading into a black as dark as the night sky around them. Eva’s drifted shut. The first time she had experienced it had been almost too overwhelming. Melding’s were the vast ocean underneath the shallows of the words and touches humans used to express their feelings. She had always thought of it something reserved for the deepest intimate moments between two mates. But on Thessia she had learned it was also for friends, for family. And it was the greatest gift a human could be given.

It could be used for several things, but this time it was to let the other know how much it meant to be reunited. Eva had wished several times in her life that she had the ability so she could use it to tell - show - people how she truly felt. She couldn’t help but think of one certain person in particular that happened to be standing right behind her, and she didn’t mind showing it now, in the deepest part of her.

The Asari’s eyes faded back to normal, leveling a knowing look at her and Eva laughed. 

“Justicar Viz'yalea Keros.” Eva rotated towards the three others behind her and directed a hand to each in turn. “Phoenix Roosevelt, Ensign Moreno, Captain Cerrillo.”

Isaac searched her face with a small smile and Eva held his gaze just a moment longer before turning back to the Asari, who was watching her with inquisitive, lavender eyes. 

Keros gave one, slow nod at the group before directing them to a small nearby room, and upon entering, Eva wondered how something could be so cozy yet so luxurious at the same time. The Justicar waited until they were seated and she had closed the heavy wooden doors before drawing a small, silver disc from a hidden pocket on her thigh. “Now, to discuss business.”

Headcannons

@bdavishiddlesbatch and I were talking about a fic where Frankie couldn’t keep any plants alive, and it turned into headcannons about the Pedro boys and plants so here we go

Frankie: Can’t keep them alive but he really wants to. His therapist suggests them after he starts trying to kick his addiction and also the events of the movie, because it gives him something to focus on and keep alive, but he really just can’t manage it for some reason, even the really easy plants. Has bough tons of books and watched YouTube tutorials and he’s really tried everything but they just keep dying.

Marcus Pike: Loves plants and can totally keep them alive. They don’t thrive or anything, they’re just kind of alive. He specifically likes growing herbs on his kitchen window and also once he’s dating again likes growing flowers specifically to give to you. 

Marcus Moreno: Likes plants, mostly because his former wife loved plants and had a whole garden in their backyard that they took pictures in with Missy after she was born. Once his wife dies he keeps up the garden because it reminds him of her, and also because it’s a link to her for Missy. It’s also a nice way for him to decompress after a particularly hard day at work.

Max Lord: He doesn’t particularly care about plants while he’s building up Black Gold, mostly because he doesn’t have the time. There’s an air fern on his desk that one of his employees tries to occasionally mist because she feels bad for it, but it’s just there to add color to the office. After his company fails Alistair brings home one of those little plants they have kids plant for mothers day, since he likes his dad better anyway, and Max does everything in his power to keep that little basil plant alive.

Max Phillips: Why would this man care about a plant? It’s a waste of time and energy, and it’ll die eventually anyway. Also he’s a little bitter about the whole sun thing.

Javi: Kinda middle-ground on plants, doesn’t feel one way or the other, but he doesn’t have any simply because he isn’t around enough to take care of them. Once you come around though, he has to admit that the green makes his apartment more welcoming.

Ezra: Ok, this man likes plants, but he’s moving around too much to really keep one. He did find a little plant in its own little terrarium, maybe two inches tall, that he can keep with him on his travels. It’s somehow survived and even more surprising is that he hasn’t lost it yet. 

Din: He hasn’t ever really thought about keeping plants. It’s a luxury he can’t really have in the Crest, since there’s really no place for it and it wouldn’t get much sun anyway. Plus, once he adopts Grogu, any plants would def get eaten by the little menace. He does find it pretty hard to wash off the crude flowers Grogu paints on the bottom part of one of the walls one day though.

Whiskey: Ok, this one is sad. His wife loved plants, had every window sill in their tiny apartment covered in plants. Every time Whiskey tried helping her with them, even just watering, they would die a few days later, so he was banned from plant care. After she dies he tries so hard to keep them alive, but when the last little spider plant finally withers away he spends a few hours holding the pot on the kitchen floor, crying. 

Tovar: Another one that doesn’t see the point in keeping plants, not that he really can on the road anyway. They’re just one more thing taking up space. Once he settles down however, and you beg him for a little garden, he decides he likes watching you care for them, and maybe it makes him think of you caring for another tiny creature.

Dave: The man is weirdly good at keeping plants alive. It started with a little lavender plant that one of his daughters brought home from school, and since then has grown into a whole menagerie. It’s nice for him to be able to keep something alive with all the death in his life, and it’s something he can do with his daughters after their homework is done. He also likes surprising you with flowers every now and then from your back yard.

Oberyn: It started as a necessary thing, he needed to be able to grow specific plants to have the poisons that they could make, but he soon discovered that he actually really liked taking care of plants. It’s calming, he can use it to impress people he’s interested in, and once his daughters get a little older and more responsible he can teach it to them. It’s a good skill to have, but it’s also one more way for them to be able to keep themselves safe.

Zach: He’s spent most of his life in situations where he couldn’t keep plants. You can’t really keep plants when you’re being deployed randomly, and it’s pretty hard to keep a plant alive when you’re struggling to keep yourself alive once he’s homeless. Once he gets his own place though he buys a little aloe plant on a whim for five dollars when he’s grocery shopping, and that thing becomes his baby.
