Just a quick ficlet for kyoru week 2023 cause I wanted to write something.
8/22 home movies @kyoruweekofficial
It’s more of a kyoru family story. Idk the idea is cute to me lol
“Hey mom, watcha doin’?” The six-year-old questions.
The woman stops wiping the shelf. “Oh, just tidying up.”
“What’s those?” The child points to a set of DVD jackets. “Movies?”
“Sort of, they’re home movies. You know, like when we record videos on our camera? These are of events we like to keep.”
“Can we watch one?”
“Sure. Why don’t you pick?” The child picks a random disc and hands it to their mom. “Oh, this is of my graduation,” the woman reminisces as she pops it into the Blue-Ray player.
They curl up on the couch as the video rolls with mom narrating for the little girl. The video was taken when she graduated from high school and her parents held a big party at the Sohma compound. Many were there, like uncle Mutsuki and his parents uncle Yuki and aunt Machi, uncle Hatsu and aunt Rin with daughters Sora and Riku, even uncle Shiki came considering he wasn’t fond of parties. Of course, aunty Akito and uncle Shigure had to attend as the heads of the clan, but it was nice to see them since they rarely left the compound anymore. She names off the relatives as they appear on camera, often pausing to answer questions because the little girl has never met many of the older generations that have passed on.
“Who’s that next to you and papa Hajime,” the child points at the elderly couple who are standing next to her grandfather.
“That’s grandpa’s parents. They’re your great-grandparents, grandma Tohru and grandpa Kyo.”
“Oh, they look so old, but so cute still holding hands.”
The woman chuckles, “well, they are in their 80s.” She sighs, “I wish you could’ve met them. You look a little like grandma Tohru when she was a young girl.” A bit of moisture clouds her vision as she reminisces. “Lets’ see, grandma passed away about 8 years after this, and your grandpa followed a year later. My parents believed with his heart gone, grandpa didn’t have the will to keep living.”
“That’s impossible,” the child looks up at her mom with concern, “how can a heart just disappear from,” she points to her chest.
“No, not like that.” The woman laughs. “They’re talking about your great-grandmother. Grandma Tohru was his heart. Great-grandpa loved her more than anything else in this world because she saved him from the Sohma monster.”
The child turns to look at her mom again, this time with an indignant glare. “Mom,” she crosses her arms. “A monster, seriously? Monster’s aren’t real so that makes no sense.”
Before responding, the woman pauses the video and pulls her daughter onto her lap. “Have I ever told you the story of the zodiac?” The child shakes her head no. “Do you want to hear it?”
“Yes!” The little girl bounces in excitement.
The mom moves her back to the couch, gets up and goes to another room. She comes back in a couple minutes holding an old wooden box and sits back down next to her daughter. She then opens the lid to show the child the little animal figurines inside, worn with age, but still discernible for what they represent. But there was one odd piece in the box.
“Mom, why’s there a wooden rice ball with a bunch of animals?”
“I’m glad you asked,” the mom talks as she pulls out the figurines of the rice ball and an orange cat, placing it in the little girls cupped hands. “These represent your grandma Tohru,” she points to the rice ball, “and grandpa Kyo,” she points to the cat. “The rest of the animals make up the zodiac.”
The child gives her a mom a confused look which gains a chuckle from her mother.
“Don’t worry, it’ll be explained in the story.” The woman takes the figurines from her daughter, puts them back in the box, and puts the box aside. “Now where should I begin?” She thinks for a moment. “A very long time ago, there was a god…”

Fashionably late to @kyoruweekofficial, per usual! This was for day one's prompt, which was "holding hands". Tohru is still not used to it all, whether it be months or years later.

Eyes like the Sun
Rating: G Ship: Kyo/Tohru Prompt: Day 6: Sunset For: @kyoruweekofficial
Tags: Kyo x Tohru, Kyoru Week 2020, Fluff, Post-Canon, Manga Spoilers
Read on Ao3
There were times in his life where Kyo genuinely couldn’t believe how lucky he was. Never had he thought there would be a day he could get married, have children, and live his life to the fullest. When he was growing up all he was ever told was how he was a monster, how he was horrible and everything was his fault, how he’d be locked away forever. Kyo had been everyone’s scapegoat. The one everyone pushed the blame onto to make themselves feel better.
Tohru never saw him like that. She saw him as a person. As someone to bond with, to love, to cherish. She was the first person aside from his master to care for him like that. Tohru ran after him, cared for him, cried for him… There was no one else he could want by his side.
He and Tohru hadn’t been an “official” couple for very long. They were still learning how the “relationship” thing worked considering neither of them had really been in one before. Kyo had gotten the idea of how relationships shouldn’t work from watching the horrible relationships in the Sohma family. They were still a bit awkward about physical affection. The rat called them “suffocating” on multiple occasions. It had gotten easier once they realized that most people were genuinely happy about their relationship and didn’t mind them occasionally holding hands or when he’d tug her in for a hug. Still, the more intimate things like small pecks on the cheek or lips were kept private. Kyo had come to be shy about touching feely actions in front of people because of Kagura constantly clinging to him.
Although… he didn’t mind Tohru’s clinginess. In fact, he was kind of clingy himself. He never longed for someone’s touch like he did hers. Maybe he was a bit touch starved, but he’d never admit that aloud. Or to Tohru.
Kyo waited in the hall, sitting against the wall as he was lost in thought. It was so easy to give into his mindseye while thinking about her. She consumed his brain almost all hours of the day.
Tohru still had extra work to catch up on since being in the hospital, and he would gladly wait for her to finish so they could walk home together. It was something he’d come to love. Something they got to do together privately. Sure, Yuki would walk with them occasionally, but not like he once did. The rat was preoccupied with his own relationship and the responsibilities of being student council president.
“Kyo!”
Looking up immediately at the sound of her voice, Kyo couldn’t help the fond smile that etched along his lips at the sight of her. Standing, he picked up his bag as she approached him. “Hey, you. Are you done for the day?”
Tohru smiled, reaching for his hands. “Mmhm! I have a bit of a headache though,” she replied with a giggle.
“Are you feeling sick?” he asked, concerned. The last thing he wanted was for her to overwork herself again. She had such a habit of doing that.
“Not really. I think it’s just from all the numbers.”
Chuckling, he nodded. “Yeah, alright. Why don’t we order in tonight?” he suggested, intertwining their fingers together.
Tohru followed along happily as he tugged her along down the hall.
Man, he loved her. He loved her more than he thought his heart would ever be capable of loving someone. The small smiles she made, how the littlest things made her happy… he adored all of it. Adored every second he got to spend with her. And wanted that to be for the rest of his life.
“Kyo, look! The sun is setting,” she cheered with a smile, pointing out over the fence lookout.
He paused with her, keeping his palm firmly against her own. “Yeah, it is.”
She giggled next to him, leaning her head onto his shoulder. “You know… I always loved sunsets. Even more now than I used to.”
“Hm? Why’s that?”
“Cause it’s the same color as your eyes.”
Kyo flinched, gritting his teeth as his face flushed. Blinking down at her, he caught her gaze as she smiled up at her.
“Don’t say cute things like that, you idiot.”
Tohru merely laughed in response.

@kyoruweekofficial Dream prompt plus Hauntober Fog prompt
*Tohru POV
Fear slowly creeps into every pore, every breath taken as my eyes pan through the milky gray surrounding me. I can hear my heart beating, thuds, echoing in my eardrums, bu-bump... bu-bump... overruling the silence of these woods. Moist air droplets clings to my skin from the heavy fog, chilling me though I feel no cold.
Am I in the forest? I think I’m back in the Sohma’s Forrest where Shigure found me. But why am I here? No, wait, the landscape is changing... what’s happening?! I feel like I’m in a fun house of horrors, the swirling gray ink around me is making me dizzy. Wait... I think... I think I recognize this place.
“Go back Tohru.”
That’s right, the cliff... with Akito... why— the fight. She was so distraught, clinging to me as if I could give her what she needed, like I’d given the others. Scared, her, me... So much pain in her eyes, but then... but then I-I fell. “Am I dead?!” Is that where I am?
“Go back Tohru.”
I can’t see anyone but that’s her voice! I know that voice! “Mom?! Mom is that you?!” I search frantically, calling out into this weird void.
“Go back Tohru, he needs you.”
Tears cascade down my cheeks. I must be dead, how else could I hear my moms voice? Is this the realm between life and death? But... as much as I want to see her, the Sohma’s, my friends, grandpa... “Who needs me?” Kyo? “Mom please!” Can’t I see her just one more time?!
“He needs you Tohru, and you need him.”
I fall to my knees wrapping my arms around them. “I don’t know what to do. I’m not as strong as you mom, please.” Suddenly, a veil of warmth embraces me. I look up into a soft, bright light in the shape of, “mom!” More tears cloud my vision. Is it really her?! “But I-I can’t do this without you. I’m so scared...”
“You are his strength Tohru, and he is yours.”
“Tohru?”
“It’s time to go back... go back to him Tohru...”
“Tohru?”
“Mom, no don’t leave me!” I reach out as she fades away into the inky blackness. But in the blink of an eye, she’s gone and I fall to the ground onto the soft bed of leaf litter, soft? How peculiar...
“Tohru, wake up you’re having a nightmare again.”
“Hmm?” I answer the gentle voice. The ground is so warm. I snuggle in. “Mmm,” It feels so nice.
“Tohru, love wake up.”
“Kyo?” Thats his voice calling to me now. My eyes slowly open to see my husband cradling me in his arms. So, that’s where the warmth is coming from. “Mmm, Kyo.”
“Was it the same nightmare? Been awhile since you’d had it.”
“Yeah,” I breathe out.
“You’re safe now. I got ya.”
I sigh as Kyo bundles me closer, wrapping the blankets tighter around us and resting his hands gently over the bump of my stomach. I know why I’m having this horrid dream again, fears of the past and anxiety for the future. Will I be able to help those precious to me? Can I be a good mother too?
“You are his strength Tohru, and he is yours...”
My mother was such a tough person compared to me. I’m not strong like her. But Kyo always reminds me I have a different kind of strength to heal people. Maybe he’s right or maybe they’re both right. We’re each other’s strength. I close my eyes and let his warmth and soothing rhythm of his heart beat lull me back to sleep. ‘I’ll do my best mom...’ I had a great role model after all.

@kyoruweek19 day 6: Birthday wishes.
I finally wrote a fic for this week! This follows a scene where Tohru is being kept awake because fetus Hajime won’t stop kicking. I got this idea the other day and it gave me the SMILES. Hope you enjoy~ *Manga spoiler warning*
-
As soon as the rays of morning light shining through the window hit his closed eyes, he opened them, squinting from the illuminated room. Tohru was the first thing he saw in the morning, and the first thing he wanted to see. Instead, his vision landed on the nightstand where a glass of milk sat half-empty from the night before. He must have turned over in his sleep.
He turned toward her side of the bed, expecting to find her still asleep, but she was sitting up against the pillows, her eyelids drooping. She noticed him and made a smile that looked like it took a lot of effort to form. “Goodmorning, Kyo-kun,” she said, her voice so soft as if she was talking in her sleep.
Kyo sat up, slightly alarmed. “What are you doing up? It’s still early.”
“Can’t sleep,” she mumbled and stroked her round belly that was getting bigger each day.
“Crap,” he groaned and lifted himself so he sat closer to her. “You should have woke me up.”
“No, I couldn’t!” she said, her voice more audible. “I was fine. You need your sleep.”
“I don’t want you to be left alone awake all night.” He draped his arm around her, and she fell into his half embrace, her head landing on his shoulder. “This is the third time this week that he’s kept you up.”
Her laugh came as a tiny breath of air against his neck. She drew her hand across her belly. “He wouldn’t stop kicking. He only stopped a few minutes ago. He must be anxious to get out.”
“I guess so,” Kyo said, leaning down so he was at eye-level with her stomach. “Let her sleep, dammit, or I’ll ground you before you’re even born.”
Her laugh was stronger this time and filled with more life. It was like he was listening to the sweetest music. “You really are going to make a great father.”
“Yeah, you’re just saying that,” he mumbled as he sat back up.
She hugged his arm. “I mean it.” She buried her head against his bicep, cocooning herself into his form.
He wanted to believe it, but he remained unsure. He wouldn’t know how reliable of a parent he would be until after the baby was born. Tohru assured him many times that as long as he has love for the child in his heart, he would be an amazing dad. And he already loved their baby very much, despite him keeping his wife up at night.
“Oh, I just remembered. Your birthday is next week, Kyo-kun! Wouldn’t it be funny if the baby was born on that day? We’d have to have two birthday parties on the same day each year!”
He chuckled, shrugging the shoulder that she wasn’t leaning against. “Well, he is going to be here any minute. Let’s hope he’s not born on my birthday. I don’t think he’d like that.”
“Maybe not,” she said with a tired smile. Her eyes opened wide. “Oh! I just felt another kick.”
“Not again,” Kyo replied, but he smiled too. To think their baby was in there, so eager to come into the world and meet them, it left him in awe.
“Yes, he’s kicking harder this time.” She lifted her nightgown so it sat under her breasts, revealing her belly. She took his hand and placed it above her belly button. “Here. See if you can feel it.”
His fingers splayed across her middle. He waited in silence. As a minute passed by, he started to wonder if any movement would occur. Just as he was seconds from losing hope, a harsh thump thump hit his palm.
His face perked up. “There he is. Woah.”
“There he is,” Tohru repeated, her fingers burying into the hair at the crown of his head as he leaned back down to her stomach. She laughed as several more kicks came. “He’s so excited to feel you, Kyo-kun.”
He blinked, forcing the tears to stay back. But the rush of happiness in him was so strong that it lead him to get teary before he could help it. It blew his mind that his child was in there, thriving so perfectly and waiting to meet them. The moment when he would be brought into the world was getting closer, and Kyo was also growing with anticipation.
“Since your birthday is coming, what do you think you will wish for?” she asked him, her lips going into his hair as well.
He rested his ears against her stomach, hearing a kick this time, one as soft and faint as a heartbeat. “I don’t need to wish for anything.”
“Hm? Why not?” she whispered into his hair.
He smiled, his lips brushing over her bellybutton in a tender kiss for her and their baby. “I already have everything I want right here.”

Kyoru Week: Day 2 - Firsts
I’m gonna be honest, I wrote this in like 2hrs; it’s nearly 1am (so I missed the deadline for the 2nd day in a row), and so I haven’t really edited it. Sorry if there’s any typos. I’ll try to do a good polish/edit tomorrow when I’m awake again. :P
UPDATE: K. It should be all edited now. ^_^ UPDATE #2: I forgot to mention that you can also read this story on AO3, on FFN, or on DA
-----------------------------
Experience It All
Spoilers: Story is post high school graduation Romance Level: Newly Dating Word Count: 1493 Summary: It's the first apartment Kyo ever owned. The first one he and TOHRU ever owned. And he becomes surprised as to how many more "firsts" they have to go.
Kyo was buzzing with nervous energy. The keys to their new place clinked against each other as he spun the ring around his index finger, catching the keys and then spinning them in the opposite direction. Spin clockwise. Catch. Clink. Spin counter-clockwise. Catch. Clink. Spin clockwise again.
“Is this it?” Tohru clung to Kyo's left arm. She had been taking in the quaintness of the village he had moved her to, but upon hearing the jingle of the keys, she focused on the building before them.
“It's gonna be small,” Kyo warned, not moving as he took in the apartment complex. “It's not going to be like Shigure's place, or your grandfather's.”
“That's okay. Mom and I used to have a small place. Besides, I'm sure it will be way bigger than a tent.” She giggled, and hugged Kyo's arm close.
She had spent months in that tent, alone in woods she didn't realize had belonged to the affluent Sohma family.
Months. Alone.
Kyo had never been alone. Not really. He had been neglected, sure, and might as well have been alone. Still, he always had an adult near by. When he was real young it was his mother. Then, after she died and Kyo was all but disowned by his father, Kazuma Sohma took him in. He had loved Kyo, and the boy took that love for granted. Worse. He didn't accept that it was real, not before he met Tohru. Even when Kyo was lost within himself - after failing to save Tohru's mother – he wasn't alone. Kazume spirited him away to recover and revive. Then it was Shigure's turn to watch over Kyo.
For someone who felt isolated and unloved, he always had a guiding hand. He was the adult now; almost. He wasn't living in someone else's house anymore. This was his place. He held keys for his home. He was the master of this place. He wasn't sure he was ready for that sort of responsibility. Why couldn't he be a stupid kid again?
“Kyo-kun?” Tohru's soft voice brought Kyo back to the present. “Are we not in the right place?”
“No. No we are. Sorry. I was just-” He looked up at their apartment front door. He could do this, right? He could run a household. He could work full time as an apprentice at the local dojo. He could provide for Tohru. He could keep her happy and safe here. He could even save up enough for her to take the train back to Tokyo a few times each year to visit everyone. He was a man now. He could do it.
“Come on.” Tohru tugged a bit on his hand. “Show me our new place! I can't wait to see.”
Chuckling at her eagerness helped ease him. She could always do that. No matter his mood, she could always bring him to center. With a huge grin, he sprinted ahead, dragging her behind him as he took the stairs two at a time. She squealed with excitement as she ran with him.
“Ready for our new place?”
“Kyo-kun.” It was her turn to sound a bit nervous. “This is the first time it will be just the two of us in a home.”
“I know.” He pulled her into a hug, still marveling at the fact that he could hold her in his arms; feel her head nestled against his chest. “I'm sorry. It may be a bit lonely since you don't have others to keep you company while I'm out.”
She pushed away from him and shook her head. “We have all of these neighbors. I'm sure I'll find plenty of company here.”
“I know you well enough to know that it will be impossible for any of these people to not love you as soon as they meet you.” He gave her a quick kiss on the lips before resting his forehead against hers. “I'm sure in no time you'll have our place bustling just as much like a convention center as Shigure's house.”
Kyo unlocked the front door, and slowly sung it open. It was such a simple little abode. From the front door he could see the little galley kitchen to the left, the three-square-meter living room straight ahead, and the double glass doors to the porch just beyond that. There were three doors to the right: a bathroom, and two closet-sized bedrooms. Kyo wasn't even sure if the Western-style bed Shigure had bought Tohru a few years back would fit in her cubbyhole. As it were, his futon was probably going to carpet his room.
“Kyo-kun?” Tohru tried to scrunch down to look under Kyo's arm. Then she stretched on to her tiptoes to try to see past his shoulder. As she bobbed and weaved, Kyo realized he was still in the doorway, and was now broad enough to block most of it.
“Sorry.” He blushed slightly, and scratched the back of his head. “I- I know that now isn't traditionally when I'm supposed to do it, but-” He gulped and tucked the keys into his front pants pocket. “Would you mind if I, ya know, carried you in?”
Tohru's hopping ceased. Instead, a grin slowly stretched across her face, and her whole body appeared lighter; not as weighed down by gravity as it should. Holding her hands, folded, against her chest, she emphatically nodded.
Smiling back, Kyo knelt so he could scoop up her knees. Lifting her into a bridal carry, Kyo carefully stepped her over the threshold of their home. Their first home. Theirs. Instead of putting her down on the other side of the door, he continued to carry her to the teeny living room, and swung her around in a large circle. Hooting with excitement.
“Look at it, Tohru! This is ours! Just ours!” Kyo stopped in the center of the room, and lowered Tohru to her feet. While he was still leaning down, she kissed him.
“I love it.”
“Come on.” He took her hand and pulled her through the apartment. “This is obviously the kitchen. I hope it will be big enough for you to cook, but if not I'll figure something out for you. We could even put the rice cooker right here, just outside the galley. I could put a little table here or something.” He then ran to the bathroom. “It's not much, but it has a shower, and there's a hot spring nearby if you wanted to occasionally soak in a tub instead.” He pushed passed her, and escorted her to the first of the bedrooms. “This one looks a bit small. It can be mine if you'd like.”
“Yours?”
Kyo was too excited to register her question as he escorted her to the second bedroom. “Yeah. This one looks large enough for your bed. This can be your bedroom.”
“Mine?”
“And look! There's a large enough window for you to climb through, and the back porch runs the full width of our place. You could easily reach a line through here, and that way you don't need to leave the warmth of your room to hang up clothes even in winter.”
“Kyo-kun-”
He hopped through the window with ease and looked up. “I can even access the roof easily from here if I really wanted to!”
“Kyo-kun!” Tohru's voice was loud, but still meek.
“Hmm? Sorry. You wanted something, Tohru?” Kyo climbed back inside, and scooped her hands up into his.
“You said 'my room' and 'your room'.”
“Yeah.”
“I- well-” Her thumbs raced across his fingers; nervous energy shooting out of her. “I was- I mean, since we-” Her face bypassed pink and went straight to crimson. “I'm sorry, I'm being too forward. Nevermind.”
Now it was Kyo's turn to match a beet.
“Tohru, were- were you- do you mean- Did you expect us to share a room?”
She squeaked and ripped her hands from his so she could hide behind them.
Kyo was going to live without a supervising adult for the first time in his life, and his girlfriend wanted to share a bedroom. Wasn't he a high school student just a couple of weeks ago? How did life go this fast?
He gently bopped the top of her head with his knuckles, startling her enough to drop her shield of fingers. Before her surprise subsided, he cupped her face. He again rested his forehead against hers before pecking a kiss on the tip of her nose.
“You do not have to ask me twice to share a room with you, Tohru. We can use the other one for something else. Storage, or a library, or a study-”
“Or a practice room for you?”
“We can do whatever you want with it.” He scooped her into another hug, his heart racing with excitement. After three years with this woman, he still had so many Firsts to go through. He couldn't wait to experience them all.
