HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Tumblr media
We have a frightening tale for you today... reader be scare, you're in to beware! Please, come in. Sit in the Chilling Chair at our Terrible Table in our Devious Dining Room. Now, I hope you're hungry, because we've made plenty of PETRIFYING PASTA! Fufufu... let's begin.
It was looking to be a very special Halloween. This particular year, the holiday had fallen on Friday the 13th! Spooktacular! Alas, nobody could go trick or treating, for there was a blood moon that day, and nobody wanted to be outside where their costumes would be stained with all the blood. Sigh... what a boring, uneventful day it was shaping up to be!
But then... a sound right outside. The sound of the mailbox opening and closing. Mail? On this federal holiday? How strange! And a bit disconcerting... who would dare to venture out with the town moist with blood? Maybe a vampire... eep! I opened the door, shivering, worried I may accidentally invite the hypothetical vampire inside, only to find...
Nobody there. No body at all. Just a severed, green hand clinging to the mailbox. So that's what the sound was! And here I was, worried it would be something scary. I shooed the little critter away, and as it scuttled off on its fingers, I saw that it had left something in the mailbox! Something familiar.
Tumblr media
Why, it was a copy of Super Mario 64 DS! How generous, a Halloween miracle! I had been wanting to play this lately, but my childhood game card had stopped working. This was shaping up to be a nice Halloween after all! It was a used copy, and it still had the price sticker on it, having been resold at $6.66. Upon seeing this number, I immediately screamed. Someone had gotten an incredible deal on this game!
So, I opened the box. Everything was in great condition! Even the manual was included! I don't remember the manual looking like a torn piece of paper with "I SEE YOU" written on it with blood, but it's been a long time. I know I still have my original manual around somewhere, so no need to flip through this one. I got right to playing the game!
What a rush of nostalgia! There was my friend Mario's funny face on the touch screen, ready to be tapped! And tap I did! Rather than the game drawing the lineart of Mario's face, though, it drew something else. A tombstone with my full name, date of birth, and another, later date written on it. Weird! Must be a weird coincidental thing drawn by the previous owner? I played around with the squiggly lines and spun it around. It was fun :)
I got right into the game, and everything was just as I remembered it! I was visited by Lakitu, went into the castle, and jumped into the first painting, like I had so many times before. But something definitely was strange here. I was reasonably certain that the first mission of Bob-omb Battlefield was not called "Kill The Big Bob-omb Dead" in any version of the game! Nevertheless, I continued on.
That was when I saw it. Where I would expect a Bob-omb Buddy to stand was the most terrifying character design I had ever seen. Against my better judgement, I approached and interacted with it.
"Hi! I'm Bob-omb...
Tumblr media
BLOODY!!!"
EEK! I could not believe my eyes! I would expect such material in an "adults only"-rated game, but in MARIO?! I had no idea what to do. I continued playing for some foolish reason, running off toward the Big Bob-omb the way I always would, hoping to find comfort in the familiar. The game felt normal again, aside from how Big Bob-omb left a large splatter of realistic blood on the ground when defeated, and I was mercifully brought back to the safety of Peach's Castle.
And yet... I felt a morbid curiosity. An urge to continue playing. Maybe it was just a glitch? Maybe the second mission would be back to normal, and I would get to see my friend Koopa the Quick? That would be nice. I selected the second mission, and...
Tumblr media
It was normal. It was safe. The Bob-ombs, Buddies. Maybe none of that was even real. Maybe I was still shaken up about the knock at the door earlier? Whatever it was, it wasn't important anymore. I could finally play my funny Mario game and have fun! I walked on over to my friend the Koopa and interacted with him.
"Excuse me? Can I help you? Who are you?"
I was confused. Wasn't he supposed to ask for Mario? Wasn't this Koopa the Quick?
And then, as if he heard me, he turned his head. He wasn't looking at Yoshi. He was looking straight through the screen at me, and his eyes were more realistic than ever.
"I'm not Koopa the Quick.
Tumblr media
I'm Koopa the TRICK!"
AIIIIIEEEEE!!!
Of course, none of this has been real! Just some Halloween Hijinxs! There is no such thing as a realistic turtle!
...Or is there?
That's for you to find out... heehee! Happy Halloween!

Mario & Sonic Party part 3
(Part 1) (Part 2)
Okay, now we're doing Minigame Mode
So the framing device for the Minigame Mode menu as a whole as well as the Free Play menu is that Peach's Castle ended up in Spagonia and the Submode Selection and Minigame Selection uses magic portal paintings like in Super Mario 64, with Toadsworth and Professor Pickle curating the gallery. If a submode or minigame is still locked, the painting will be obscured by abstract blobs of color.
Fishing Battle
That one mode in nearly every Mario Party where you pick a minigame category (4-Player, 2-vs-2 and 1-vs-3) and whether you need 3, 5, or 7 victories to win. In this case, it's represented by the Players' characters fishing with Big and a Lakitu, and when you win a minigame you catch a fish.
Duel Simulator
Professor E. Gadd and Eggman Nega's laboratories got fused together in such a way that the doors are missing, and they've decided to make the most of it and simulate the playable characters going head-to-head in Duel Minigame Tournaments. We've got the two duels in round 1, then the 3rd-4th playoff, then the final round, as you'd expect. The Players can decide who squares off with who in the first round.
Extreme Racing
The single player Minigame Endurance mode. The Player must compete in 100 consecutive Minigames of any type (except Item and Boss Minigames) and can only lose 3 times before getting a game over. The host duo and racecourse aesthetic are different depending on the difficulty level. On Easy, you race against Storm and the Spooky Speedster through ancient ruins, with elaborate depictions of both Ancient Babylonians and Thwomps carved into the walls. On Normal, you race against Wave and Koopa the Quick through a tunnel that appears to be part of an Eggman base, with a window on one side that reveals the tunnel is hanging over a lava lake near one of Bowser's Castles. On Hard, you race against Jet and Il Piantissimo on a path made of clouds and vines high in the sky, with Sky Babylon visible in the distance. On Master, you race against Metal Sonic 3.0 and a Cosmic Mario on a mechanical version of Rainbow Road, with both the Comet Observatory and a not-blown-up Death Egg visible in the distance. On Super, you're on a comically long wooden pier being chased by the Sonic Adventure Orca. It gives up and swims away at the halfway point, only to immediately be replaced by a giant Cheep-Cheep.
Tile Trial
It's basically just MP5's Mini-Game Wars with a bigger grid, because it's my favorite of the Colored Tile Minigame Submodes. Sticks and Orbulon are the Hosts because I think they'd play off each other well, and there's now a 2-vs-2 version called "Badgers Versus Aliens."
Chaothlon
The usual Minigame Decathlon framed as a Chao Race. It's hosted by Toad and Omochao, and every character uses a Chao that looks like them...with a few exceptions.
Cream obviously uses Cheese.
Ashley's Chao is clearly just Red under the effect of a transformation spell of some sort.
Petey Piranha uses a Nipper Plant
Bowser Jr. uses a Hero Chao wearing a Bandana identical to his.
Metal Sonic and Omega both use modified Omochao Because Robots.
Boss Rush
Kamek and Sage challenge 1 or 2 players to play every Boss Minigame back-to-back. The order is random, with the exception of Dimensional Collision Zone's boss, which is always last. This is the only way for Blaze, Ashley, Junior and Metal to fight the bosses, and it's probably a bit awkward for Junior and Metal because they are the boss fight for BowsEgg Battle Cruiser.
That's it for Minigame Mode, but this post ain't over yet!
Bonus Mode
The Dream World and Maginaryworld got fused just like everything else, but because they're both just Dreams it isn't that big a deal. So, Prince Dreambert and Illumina collaborated on three special dreams that house Bonus Games for the playable characters to enjoy.
MicroDream Mayhem
A single player bonus game hosted by Lumina. It's literally a WarioWare stage with "Mario + Sonic" as the theme. There's about 30 mirogames (which I will not be coming up with. nor will I be coming up with the Minigames. That Way Lies Madness.)
Dream Ralley
Four players race through a platforming course created by Dreambert, because of course you'd put platforming challenges into a crossover between two of the most famous platformer series of all time. Each difficulty level has three courses to choose from (Dreambert has a lot of free time).
Nightmare Shuffle
Void has created a few small, simple boards that use the mechanics of Sonic Shuffle instead of Mario Party. I bet you thought I forgot about Sonic Shuffle, didn't you?
Extras Mode
Hosted by Starlow and Shahra, this Mode houses the Star Bank and has some extra content that didn't quite fit in the other modes. Namely:
Unlockable figurines like the ones in MPDS.
3 special single-player Minigames.
Unlockable artwork of the characters, usually involving the various counterparts interacting.
The soundtrack, available for your perusal and listening pleasure.
Options Mode
Exactly what you expect. Hosted by a Goomba and an Egg Pawn.

Road to Cream64 v1 Part 2: All in the Family
Tumblr media
With the main player model ready to go, it was finally time to get to everything else. Starting with Peach herself, it was time to get Vanilla into the game.
To start, I had to get an idea on how Peach was rigged and this was something I had to mostly do on my own. Fast64 has an import tool to grab models and their rigs straight from the game itself, so you can (kind of) easily swap models out without having to change anything else, so long as everything was put back that is.
Mario 64's T-Poses are not traditional ones but rather they come imported as a crumpled mess, like so.
Tumblr media
Here's Peach's for example. Mario is just about the same, as well as a bunch of other enemies and stuff. Don't get me started on Bowser, we'll get to him much later. But generally once you have it imported, most people would uncrumple the T-Pose to get an idea on where everything else. This is very intimidating at first, so you make a save where it's already uncrumpled. There's another method that you can use to guide you but, again, I'll get to that later.
Tumblr media
So here we are, after going back and adding her proper "Princess" textures. Stuff like the crown and the jewel on her chest are taken straight from Peach's model, but everything else was remade from scratch. Get it as close as her original outfit but still keep it very princess-y. Now to get her back in that crumpled state we saw earlier.
Tumblr media
And there we go, she's ready to be imported in-game. The Fast64 tool has a little button that lets you keep a model's default rest position to however you like, which makes editing the more complicated models easier since going back to edit mode shifts the bones back to rest position.
And you can do the same method to get it back to its normal position. Just be careful on how you rotate things cause you can accidently rotate two bones on the wrong axis and it'll mess up everything. Lost too many good Mario rigs that way...
Tumblr media
Some code given to me by the simpleflips' romhack discord, I can easily warp to the ending to see my results. Took a few tries actually but once it was all done, everything looked great! However, there was still one last thing left: the blinking.
Most models have blinking, which uses a switch bone usually where it would happen, so the head in this case. The Mario rig that comes with fast64 already has it set, so it's just a matter of swapping textures. For anything you import, it doesn't come with textures so you have to fill in the blanks (it does come with its UVs so it's not super hard if you know what you're doing).
For the blinking, you have to find the specific bone that does it and then manually add the textures that way. Peach is somehow unique in that she has seven states, all but one are a repeat of another. Here's the first three from the most recent version I got of her as an example.
Tumblr media
So a lot of the early importing was a lot of trial and error till just figuring out which bone does it and in which order, using the Mario switch states as an idea. You could prolly dig around the code and see how its laid out but I sure didn't know how at the time! Anyway, Princess Vanilla was done. She showed up properly in all the spot Peach usually does and that means I'm ready to continue.
Tumblr media
Next is the unappreciated boi, Gemerl. Former Eggman goon turned protector of small and large bunnies. The plan for him was simple: he's the new Koopa the Quick. Sounds easy enough, and honestly it was mostly (after some help) but man just trying to get him rigged was uhh...something.
The original idea was to rig him to the existing Koopa model and go from there but as you can see, it was not the greatest looking thing. Koopa the Quick's model and animations are obviously shared with the normal Koopa model so I had to be careful when modifying the animations, if I did. In the end, I scrapped this idea and went with a suggestion: using Mario's rig.
Tumblr media
Huge feet aside, it did work out though actually using the Mario rig was a bit of a hassle cause when importing the Mario rig, it also includes the bones that are handle by the game's code such as telling which hand holds things or scaling certain limbs when attacking, etc etc. And since Cream also shared that same rig now, whatever Cream did, so did Gemerl. The solution was to go through the rig and delete all those bones so that nothing gets mirrored to whatever the player was doing.
Tumblr media
Look at him go! The added benefit of using Mario's rig was that I could reuse his animations for Gemerl. The next thing was to import certain animations and export them in a certain order so that it lined up with Koopa's animations, so that once I edited some code, it would just know which animations to pick from without much effort.
Also for why he looked so big is cause I forgot Koopa the Quick has a unique scale of 4 (vs the normal Koopa being a scale of .8) so just had to adjust that as well as shrinking the trigger to talk to him and Gemerl was set! Two down, a couple more to go.
Tumblr media
Last but not least were Cheese and Chocola. These would be the first model I just took from an existing source, in this case it's from Shadow the Hedgehog. Bunch of chao in a single room...
Normal chao would replace all the toads in the castle, while chocola would be replacing a single chao in the main lobby and cheese would follow you around as the cameraman lakitu.
Starting with the toads, their rig was mostly simple if needlessly full of extra bones, which is a common issue with most of the rigs. Would be nice to get of them if I had an idea on which one didn't completely break animations. Oh well.
Tumblr media
Same rules applies to this rig and any future rigs but one thing that did help was the ability to import animations and use them as a reference while placing the new model in the same slot. Course, you could still use the model that came with the rig but you get an idea on how it'll move before it's fully in-game.
Tumblr media
Best part is since Chocola will also be sharing the same model and rig, I just had to swap out some textures and add his cute lil' bowtie. This also meant I had to make a new actor just for him and then tell the game to pull his unique model id to replace one of the normal chao in the castle. Now onto Cheese.
Tumblr media
Before following you around like normal, Cheese was meant to be the Camera. While not shown, he does have his own little cloud to sit on. Thankfully, Lakitu doesn't have many animations so he was easier to swap out compared to Toad. The Space Channel 5 logo was a suggestion and just having a little fun with the model. You'll rarely see it but hey it's there!
Tumblr media
Slow and steady but the entire bun family is now fully in-game. There's still a few other NPCs I would add to v1 but I'll get to them later, this blog post is dragging on. Next one should focus on stuff like the UI changes and finally the enemy choices, ooooo.

The Spectacled Spanker, the Laughing Prankster, Your Frustratingly Overpowered Opponent Today, it's Iggy!
Once again we hit Easy Street, as "humanized Iggy in a lab coat" is fairly common, but I decided to abstain from the Mad Scientist theme he's often given. The closest nod to it is his hair, which is almost as unkempt as Wendy's. That's saying a lot since his hair is little more than just a very, very long mohawk. Bet you didn't see the ends of his hair behind his arm, did ya? ;3c
You know the drill by now, it's headcanon time!
Iggy's magic is primarily connected (lol) to electricity. From mild static shocks to jolts strong enough to stop (or start) someone's heart, Iggy's been a walking lighting storm for as long as he can remember. It serves him well, usually when it comes to powering whatever random device he's built in his lab, but also makes for a great background effect during a regularly scheduled Evil Laugh.
In early childhood, this power only seemed to cause problems as he kept accidentally zapping people left and right. Anyone who touched him ran the risk of either a tiny jolt or a skeleton-showing shock. You would think he'd be terrified of this power, but no... He actually found it kinda funny! Everyone would freak out and make wacky poses! Hilarious!! No one else laughed, though...
The only one who could at least tolerate his antics was a red Electro-Koopa, who was attending Woohoo Hooniversity at the time. Unbothered by Iggy's shocks, the two became fast friends as the elder Koopa began to regularly sneak Iggy into the school, kickstarting the latter's love of technology and all things mechanical. At the end of the semester, Iggy followed the Electro-Koopa back to the Koopa Kingdom the moment the offer came up. Iggy had no home to speak of, and this new kingdom was so much cooler than Beanbean! What's that? When his buddy's not at school, he's working at a freakin' CASTLE?? Iggy smells shenanigans~!!
Needless to say, when Bowser realized that all the random power outages in his home were being caused by a green-haired gremlin- I mean child, he would've said that he was surprised... but that would've be a lie. He took Iggy in without much thought as he, Kamek, and Kammy were already trying to reign in other kids' unstable magic, might as well settle this kid down before he actually murders someone, intentionally or otherwise.
As hinted above, Iggy has no prior connections to a family before Bowser. He was an orphan from day one, and doesn't think too much about it. Except on late nights when he's unable to sleep despite being exhausted...
He wears his lab coat constantly, even when he isn't in the middle of any experiments that'd recommend wearing one. It's like picking your favorite hoodie/jacket; the feel of it is juuust right.
Iggy was quick to befriend Lemmy upon the former's arrival, unknowingly setting off alarm bells in Ludwig's head. Fearing that Iggy's magic would hurt his cousin, Ludwig started surveying Iggy under the pretense of "giving the new guy a tour." Iggy saw right through the act (because Kidwig was a shitty actor), but played along regardless.
Much like the Electro-Koopa did for Iggy, Ludwig soon developed an interest in technology after hearing one too many of Iggy's giddy rants on the subject. By present day, the two Koopalings are Science Buddies with a specialty in constructing airships :3
He loves and adores Chain Chomps with every fiber of his being. All the Chomps in Bowser's Castle were personally trained by him and heed his commands above anyone else's. He's considered starting an obedience school for other Chomp owners in the kingdom as a sort of side job.
Behind his glasses, Iggy is completely blind. He can't see a damn thing unless he zaps someone with his magic, and even then their electrocuted outline only lasts for a few seconds. After Bowser takes him in and he gets access to a lab, Iggy invents special glasses that let him see normally. Aka the ones he's wearing right now.
While he's not particularly insecure about his blindness, he does get understandably upset if his glasses get taken from him, go missing, or fall off.
Nobody in the castle could tell that Iggy was blind until he said so. His "Electrolocation" technique hid it well.
His magic wand was turned into a hair tie for convenience. That being said, he never bothers to retie his hair regularly, so his ponytail (mohawktail? idk) is very loose.

Name: Koopa the Sluggish
Debut: Super Mario 64
Huh? We forgot the picture for this post? Oh, no, not at all! He is there. Let me help you.
Tumblr media
There he is! There’s our buddy!
Tumblr media
You know Koopa the Quick! He’s a Koopa, he’s quick, and he’s big! Isn’t it strange, that he’s the only unique Koopa Troopa character in the entire game? Well he’s NOT! You silly unobservant goose. Sorry for calling you that. But there IS another Koopa who has been under our noses the whole time! Scientists have only recently discovered him while observing live Super Mario 64 tissue samples.
Tumblr media
Do you see him? I don’t. He is microscopic. But he is here! Koopa the Sluggish! Mario is not just avoiding a rock here, but unbeknownst even to him, he is engaged in a race. A race with the smallest Koopa of all!
You see, when Koopa the Quick was born, he was far from the only one of his clutch. A bunch of eggs at once! That’s turtles! But one egg was empty. Unfortunate, but it happens, right? It would seem inevitable that some embryos just wouldn’t develop... but the thing is, this one did. And it was the smallest embryo in the world! Slipped right through the cells of the shell, and had to fend for itself in the microscopic world before even properly developing!
Tumblr media
When you are this small, a whole lot of things want to eat you. And so, Koopa the Sluggish runs. He runs and runs and runs, maybe stops to nibble a diatom, then runs and runs and runs some more. It honestly feels disrespectful to call him sluggish with how much work he has to put into his constant fight for survival! But that’s what the Prima guidebook called him, and so that is all we got. Yeah, he’s significantly slower than Mario. But of course he is, at this scale! Instead of belittling him, how about we recognize his feats! He has to run and jump across bacteria just to get anywhere! That’s even more platforming in his daily life than Mario does. You know what they call bacteria! Nature’s platforming!
Koopa the Sluggish is one of those characters who just cannot get a break. He really deserves some more love! I know this is a lot to ask, but, try to make sure you don’t inhale him, it’s very easy to do but he hates that. Thank you! Hopefully we can get this Weird Mario Character the respect he should have had since 1996!
Tumblr media
Never mind he was just eaten by an amoeba :( Sorry

🥺👉👈 As someone who is very much a Bowser enjoyer could you, perchance, write a fluffy Bowser x Reader? For a prompt... maybe the Reader finds him asleep and takes the opportunity to get closer to him? Or, something of the cuddling variety? Reader can be gender neutral- it don't mattah too much to me.
Tumblr media
Cuddle Bug
bowser x gn!reader
It’s tiring running a growing kingdom. So many things can and have gone so wrong to the point where Bowser has to physically step in and fix it himself; which leads to a lot of complaining and ‘I have to do everything myself’s.
So it’s not uncommon to find his royal highness taking an afternoon nap in his room, which he always argues that he isn’t and is just ‘thinking of new war strategies’. The snoring that can be heard through the door doesn’t help his case.
Today though, once you’ve figured that the castle can be without its leaders for a few hours, you decided to join him for a quick snooze.
You find him in his giant bed, knocked out on his stomach with one arm cradling his head and without his sharp accessories, after bugging him so many times about how unsafe it is to sleep with them on.
“you could poke an eye out in your sleep.”
“I’d look so much cooler with an eyepatch.”
Once you’ve kicked your shoes off, you slowly move under the covers and make yourself comfortable. You look over at the sleeping turtle to make sure you haven’t disturbed his slumber and flop down on a pillow.
You weren’t expecting an arm to wrap around your middle and pull you from your spot. You can practically feel the expression on his face as Bowser moves you closer to him.
“Why would you do that,” you try to pinch the offending arm, “I just got comfortable.”
The king of Koopas opens his ember eyes and gives you a boyish smirk as he leans into his side, using the arm he had under his head to prop himself up.
You try to sit up as if to leave, which only makes him hold onto you tighter.
“Are you saying you don’t feel comfort in the arms of your favorite king?” All that gets him is a playful eye roll.
"Well, I wouldn't say favorite- ACK!" Mr. Comedian moves and puts a small fraction of his weight on you, and while isn't much still manages to knock the wind out of you; You feel his chest rumble as he chuckles.
Bowser takes the chance to flip you both over, with you straddling his chest and him on his back, "don't have to lie, I already know I am."
"Mhm." no use arguing against something that's true.
He brings a clawed palm up to your face, caressing your cheek with his thumb. Soaking in his warmth, you nuzzle into him and hold a hand over his own.
The look in his eyes is so full of love and awestruck that it nearly has you melting into him; as if he didn't believe that you were there with him.
He lives for moments like these, just you and him in each other's presence with no disturbances. It's in moments like these that he lets his walls down completely with you, more so than he already does. He wishes he could spend all his days just like this, with you by his side.
For now, though, he's enjoying this moment for as long as he can.
knock, knock
“uhh, your majesties?”
“ASK KAMEK!”
