Debut: Super Mario Maker 2

This post is actually about Partrick! This is no ordinary Brick Block, this one is a guy, with his very own funny name! This is a dream come true for anyone who's ever wanted any part in befriending a Brick Block!

Partrick gets his name because he is the icon representing Course Parts in the Course Maker. It is so fun to have a little guy as an icon, rather than just an inanimate object! It feels like a friend is there to help you! And Partrick is there for you. In real life!

Hello, Partrick! You are partoned, because you are so polite! Partrick is Part of the strange ensemble of Super Mario Maker 2 Story Mode-exclusive characters, all representing aspects of the Course Maker. I guess this is why he and some others are flattish rather than more conventional 3D models? This game very much contains 3D Brick Blocks! These characters end up looking like erasers, but I don't think that was the intention, since Mr. Eraser is one and only one of them. I don't know! I just know Partrick is Part of the gang, and he has something to ask! Let's lend him our full attention- not just Part!

Partrick is offering some jobs! Not full careers, of course, but Part-time opportunities. He wouldn't have it any other way!

Partrick is looking for a new house, and he needs help! He uses "we" a few times in these requests, because clearly he is Part of a group! I really love this framing, it is so cute. You get to survey the area where Partrick is considering living! Get to know the kind of place a Brick Block would live! (Hint: it's a Level) I hope Mario will be attending Partrick's housewarming Part-y!

I adore how Partrick talks. "Parton me". "Particularly good". It's a big Part of his charm! I love being delighted by a square that says "part" a lot. Maybe Partrick dreams of having hair. Not necessarily for beauty reasons, but just because he could Part it!

The final reward for taking Part in Partrick's real-estate journey is this (p)article of clothing! The Partrick Shirt! Can you believe it? His very own merchandise! I have no idea why he would have this shirt made, but it is a nice shirt, because I like Partrick, even if he looks kind of constipated on it. Parton him, indeed! He needs his privacy!

I wish I could write fics, because I DESPERATELY want a fic where like both Bowser and King Boo decide to break in to kidnap Luigi one night, but they accidentally do it the same night.

So Luigi just wakes up to them fighting in his room and he just assumes he's still asleep so he doesn't really react much, because this is the weirdest dream he's ever had.

And then both of them are yelling at Luigi to ask which one he PREFERS kidnapping him, like a competition, and keep being like "WELL MY CASTLE HAS LAVA SO HE CAN BE WARM IN THE CAGE!!!" "HE WILL DECORATE MY MANSION IN THE PAINTING ON THE MANTELPIECE!!!" Etc etc.

And Luigi, assuming he is asleep because this is too weird to be reality, just goes "I don't even WANT-a to know what my subconscious is-a trying to tell me." And lays down to go back to sleep, confounding both Bowser and King Boo.

It would also be hilarious if they both decide to just stay the night, because neither of them want to be the first to leave and let the other one win. And so when Luigi wakes up and they're still there he's like "THAT WASN'T A DREAM???!"

Cue both Bowser and King Boo trying to out-rizz each other to Luigi, like "Do you regularly dream about me?" "CLEARLY HE MEANS ME!"

I think everyone on Team Bleck gets annoyed with Mr. M for being a crybaby (except Dimentio. He finds it hilarious.)

Mr. L would find it annoying too, but he'd put up with it more than anyone else. In fact, the way I see it, he would end up hanging with Mr. M to the point that Mr. M becomes something of his sidekick, for as stressed and teary eyed as he may be, his overprotective nature and need for reassurance feeds Mr. L's ego. Next to Mr. M, Mr. L feels doubly like a paragon of strength and charisma.

That... and working with him feels... right somehow? They just seem to fight together so naturally for reasons neither of them can quite put their finger on...

I can already hear you with your “but toad was in the first game he says your princess is in another castle” NO he fucking isn’t. These are just Toads, not THE Toad, and you will put respect on his name. I don’t give a shit if it’s confusing that he shares his name with his entire species. It’s raw as hell. It’s him just declaring himself the best out of his entire species, and they all go along with it, because he’s fucking Toad, understand? Good.

Super Mario Bros. 2 is where Toad made his REAL debut, and immediately made it clear what’s what around here. Not only is he the fastest, leaving those other assholes in the dust, he’s the STRONGEST. This little shit is pure POWER. He’s also all blue in this game, just to prove that he can do whatever he wants, it’s not going to change the fact that he’s fucking TOAD.

Mario Kart wouldn’t be shit if Toad wasn’t in every goddamn installment, and they know it. TOAD knows it. In Mario Kart 64, he is not only voiced by the legendary Isaac Marshall, but he’s known for proclaiming “I’m the best!”, because of course he would. Anyone else saying this would sound like a fucking asshole, but when Toad says it, it’s a fact. Are you going to argue against that? He has his own fucking turnpike. But that’s nothing compared to some other tracks.

You KNOW Mario Kart 7 is not fucking around when the first track it throws at you is TOAD CIRCUIT. That’s right, not Mario Circuit or Luigi Circuit. Toad Fucking Circuit. This track’s layout is deceptively simple, but then you see the massive Toad balloons all over the place, and holy fucking shit this is badass as hell. No other starting circuit comes close.

Then they brought it back for the Booster Course Pass and oh my fucking god. Toad Circuit, in HD. They went out of their way to model the goddamn HANDS on the Toad balloons this time. They did NOT need to go this hard, but they did, and you just know fucking Toad himself must have pulled some strings with the higher-ups to make his course really stand out compared to the others from the wave, which frankly look like shit.

What more do you really need me to say about Toad? The fucking body horror implications of his attack in Smash, where he sprays spores as a counter? Imagine inhaling that and having thousands of little Toads growing in your fucking LUNGS. Jesus Christ.

I’ll just leave you with the fact that Toad has become more popular than ACTUAL TOADS. Holy shit.
