ultimate luck and hope and despair epilogue

so the komaeda pov manga trilogy ends with the famous love confession as we all know—note that the translation here was changed to “i love you… and the hope sleeping inside you….”

but i feel like i never see anyone talk about the epilogue. the epilogue is ch4 and the suicide:

these are the final two pages:

that is komaeda dying. reaching up to a light and hope fragments. when he wakes in the pod, he sees hajime standing over him, and the very last panel of the series is that same light.

his story is inseparably intertwined with hajimes, to the point where the entire trilogy ends with all of this. i am feeling exceptionally normal about this right now 👍
