hoshiumi's dream is to parkour up the school building and all the way up to the roof. the rest of the team has held secret meetings to discuss the pros and cons of letting him do this and whether or not they could successfully help pull it off

liam's irrational fear is that hoshiumi will one day piss someone off so much that they will try to step on him and liam will be the only one around to stop it

liam, internally: "i can't. i just can't. i'm so fucking small. what the fuck am i supposed to do. how do i, a little guy, stop a third year with biceps bigger than my head from squishing hoshiumi-senpai like a bug. it's not physically possible. i should just let it happen. but then we wouldn't be able to play volleyball anymore. also it would make hakuba-senpai and hirugami-senpai really sad. but i'm so LITTLE - "

i really like liam and bessho being together bc a lot of hq!! dynamics is made up of one super weird guy and one non weird guy but liam and bessho are just super extremely weird on a regular basis and even more so together

And Secretly Dating Izuru Nozawa

Warnings: light kissing, me getting to bully Hoshiumi, Manga spoilers, potential anime spoilers (spoilers are just details about the teams)

A/N: This is an Anon request and my first Kamomedai request! Currently reading the Manga so I'm not as familiar with Kamomedai as the rest of the teams BUT I have successfully stalked researched and I think I have a decent idea of their personalities so please bare with me!

Ok so from what I understand, Kamomedai is kind of like Date Tech but like more extreme??

Honestly I can tell I'm already going to adore them 🥺

Personally, they kind of give me Shiratorizawa 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 vibes

So I'm going to go with a mix of the two for these headcanons

You become Kamomedai's Manager during your second year

Let's say you were besties with Hirugami

Because seriously, what an angel 😍

By default, you become friends with Hoshiumi and let's just say you have a love/ hate relationship with our tiny seagull bby

"YN seriously must you be so happy all the time?!?"- Hoshiumi says glaring at you 😑

"It's not my fault I have friends Hoshiumi, maybe you should try not being such a stick in the mud"- you 🤪🤸‍♂️

"KORAI KNOCK IT OFF!"- Hirugami growls

Hoshiumi 👉🏻👁👄👁 WHY DIDNT YOU YELL AT YN?!?!

You 👉🏻😜 sUcK iT KoRai 😜

Honestly the maturity YN 😅

It's actually Hirugami that brings up the idea of joining Kamomedai as a manager

He decides to talk to his seniors and they love the idea

So he brings you to practice one day

Suwa, Norikura, Hakuba, Bessho, Tokura and Kanbayashi are all so nice to you

Hoshiumi just looks at Hirugami, eyes widening and says "YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME?? REALLY?? YN??"

"You know you love me Korai"- you say sweetly 🙃

Meanwhile, a certain winged spiker is observing your interaction with Hoshi 👀

That's right, third year Izuru Nozawa is watching you 👀

Observing from a distance you might say

He thinks you are super cute and the way you handle the team, well let's just say the man is sold 😍

He's seems like the kind of guy who is cocky but self conscious when it comes to crushing on someone

Luckily, you don't have that problem

"Hi!! My name is YN!! What's yours?" You say, bubbly as ever as you introduce yourself to Izuru

"Im- uh- I'm-" Nozawa says stumbling iver his words

If you don't think the team noticed his stumbling, you could be completely wrong 😏

Please they are eating this up!

Suwa comes up behind him, smacking Nozawa on the back making his jump

"This is Izuru Nozawa YN. He's one of our third year winged spikers. Isn't that right Nozawa"- Suwa says 🙃

Nozawa 👉🏻😳 uh yeah- that's me 😅

You're smile beams at Nozawa as he watches you

"I'm so excited to work with you guys"- you say, literally ecstatic

"Nobody said you were hired yet YN"- Hoshiumi grumbles

Please ✋🏻 all these boys just GLARE at Hoshiumi because HOW DARE HE CHASE YOU AWAY

You just giggle and leap at Hoshiumi, hugging him

His eyes widen and he blushes, stuttering over his own words as the guys all watch in astonishment

From that day forward, you begin your journey as Kamomedai's Manager

You provide a kind of softness to the once rough team

Literally before you, practices were so rigorous and hard

Their coach believes in working them hard

But you believe in love and nurturing your boys 🥰

So let's just say they are very surprised when they come into practice one day to see personalized treat bags made for each of them

They all stare at them, look at each other and then look to you

He loves when you cheer for him and help him practice

He also gets very jealous when you do the same for his teammates

He knows you're the teams manager and that it's your job

But seriously, he's so jealous YN 😫

He desperately wants to ask you out but he's not entirely sure how to go about it

You aren't the same as all the others YN

You are so special to him and the team

He can't mess this up!

Kamomedai prides themselves on results

They don't believe in momentum

They believe in results 👏🏻

So in his mind, of he can't ask you out the way you deserve, then he won't ask you out at all

Unfortunately, he thinks you deserve the absolute world YN 🥺 so this man will push himself to give you the best

After a particularly rough practice, Nozawa stays late to practice his serves

He struggled today, missing about 25% of his targeted goal

He knew what was messing him up, but he couldn't let it bother him

However, seeing him struggling, you decided to stay back to make sure he was ok

Hirugami and Hoshiumi left you after you said you had a few things to finish, leaving you alone with Nozawa

You stood outside the door, listening to the balls slam on the floor

"Damnit Izuru! You can't even make a serve inbounds! How do you expect YN to even considering going out with you?"- Izuru says, putting his hands on his knees and scolding himself

Your hand goes to your mouth in shock

Izuru liked you? And he thought he wasn't good enough for you 😡

Oh no no no, you weren't going to listen to Izuru put himself down

Without even thinking, you make your way into the gym, crossing the floor in only a few strides

Izuru looked up at you, eyes widening as you kneel in front of him, grab his cheeks and pull him into a kiss

His eyes wide, he watches you pull away, a small smile creeping on your face

"Izuru, you are perfect just the way you are and I'd love to go out with you"- you say, now smiling widely

Izuru just stared at you 😳

Pls YN, he's in shock say something!

"Izuru are you ok?"- You say, studying his face

Suddently, Izuru reaches his hand over, pinching himself and whincing

You just look at him, confused 🤨

"Just making sure I'm not dreaming"- he says, as he leans in, kissing your lips again making you giggle

After that, Izuru and you started a sort of secret relationship

Why secret 👀

It's because I 1000% believe this team is just as nosey as the other ones 🙄

Literally, high school kids live for gossip and what better gossip is there?

However, it's unfortunate for you and Izuru that you can't have nice things

Because one day, you are getting volleyball from the back room

Izuru comes in, asking for a small kiss before practice

You oblidge, of course 😏

Too bad a certain 6'8" winged spiker just happens to barge in

"Just one swing Izuru..." you say, glaring

"Well practice sure is interesting"- Bessho's comments

Suwa is rolling his eyes so hard rn

Izuku nodds, still holding you back from committing murder

"Ok, well as long as you two are happy"- Suwa says, shrugging and turning to leave

Please Hoshiumi is all worked up

"WHAT THE HECK?? YN IS A TOTAL LIABILITY"- Hoshiumi yells

Somehow you managed to squeeze from Izuru's hold, grabbing a volleyball and channeling Sir Iwaizumi Hajime

The ball hits Hoshiumi right in the face as he falls back, cursing at you and swearing your end

Izuru and the entire team rn 👉🏻😐🙄

After that, you no longer had to hide your relationship with Izuru

However, that doesn't mean it was easy 👀

Because you see, Nationals is pretty stressful

And I totally believe Nozawa is a jealous and possessive boi

So while the boys warm up for their first game, you sneak away to use the rest room

On your way back, you accidently bump into a tower of yellow jackets 💛

Namely ONE jacket in particular 🙃

"Oh my, I'm so sorry! I wasn't watching where I was going"- you say, excusing yourself

"Oh its no problem, I'll never complain about a beautiful person running into me"- Iizuna Tsukasa, captain of Itachiyama says 😏

Just me throwing all the names out there 🤪

You blush at the compliment, looking at the tall blonde setter as he smirks at you

"HEY-" you hear a low growling shout from behind you as you turn to see Izuru, Hoshiumi, Hakuba and Hirugami standing

You turn to walk towards your boyfriend as he pulls you close, kissing your forehead

"Ahh Nozawa, good to see you"- Iizuna says, smirking

"Iizuna, what were you doing with MY YN?" Izuru responds, eyes narrowed

"I accidently bumped into him Izu, it's ok"- you say caressing his cheek

Nozawa still glares at Iizuna as he leans his head down, giving you a small peck on the lips

Hoshiumi groans from behind you "Seriously get a room!"

Nozawa doesn't hear as he's still locked in a heated glare with Iizuna

"Let's go YN, we have a game to win"- Izuru says

"Good luck Nozawa, you're going to need it"- Iizuna says

"Not as much as you'll need"- Izuru growls, pulling you away as you wave cutesy to Iizuna

Please YN, do less ✋🏻

Needless to say, Izuru and Kamomedai didn't need to luck 🙃

They crushed their first opponents with ease, securing their place in the next round

You cheered as your boys won their match, Izuru running towards you and twirling you around, giving you a small kiss

"Ugh seriously??"- Hoshiumi moans

You glare at him as Izuru hands you a volleyball

"You know me so well"- you say as you canon the ball towards Hoshiumi 🥰

Hirugami Sachirou: That scene where he slammed his hand on the wall was inspired by one of my old [work colleague] senpais, who told this story of their senpai from a time when they were in school. [so many possessives in this sentence]

Hakuba Gao: A blessed person. Not only in his physique, but also in the people around him.

Bessho Kazuyoshi: With Kamomedai having such strong blocking, for him to be one of the starting middles as a first-year is pretty amazing.

Given Name Origins

Note: This is kind of from the perspectives of the parents, since given names are like a wish for the child’s future. Will make more sense if you know what their names mean.

Hoshiumi Kōrai: I want him to become a shining person.

Hyperspecific Headcanons with Kamomedai <3

✎genre; crack, fluff, whatever you want really

✎chef note; thanks to me making too many doodles and incorrect quotes about Bessho and Tokura, I now present you this mess, enjoy.

this is kinda funny, but their coach purposely put the water refills outside on top of a small hill under the big tree (kinda reminds me of the one in the training camp arc)

So, when they need to refill, they have to jog up the hill to get some water and they've complained about it ever since

It's not that high but with them being tired after the practice they did, it sure does felt like an eternity getting up there

Sometimes Hoshiumi and Gao races on who could get there faster while the rest are slumped while walking up

But don't worry, when they finally get there, the wind is enough to cool them back down

And now, it became their resting place after practice (no matter how many times they've complained about going up hill to even rest there)

One time they broke it

They broke the water refill, and had to fix it back up before their coach sees the mess and try to figure an excuse on why there's no water left inside and there's a crack on it

Bessho and Tokura are basically best friends but it's more one sided

Tokura lowkey highkey hates Bessho and no one knows why exactly

Maybe it's their 1st years problem or something but Tokura's just like that with Bessho and Bessho couldn't seem more concerned about the hate he's receiving

He's just fine with it wth (they're one sided frenemies in conclusion)

Kanbayashi's good at cooking and you cannot change my mind

Sometimes he makes some treats for his teammates, going to their classes during lunch hour and giving them each small boxes of the food

He cares about his teammates whether it's on or off court really

Everyone likes Suwa

Hoshiumi doesn't really look like a person who has a schedule but he actually does, but for fridays only

Why you may ask?

Because that's the day where he visits Hirugami and see his dog

Anyway, the schedule is like this;

7am-8am: wake up and do morning preps, 8.30am-3.45pm: school and volley practices

4pm-4.50pm: MEET THE DOG [in full caps and bolded] and lastly, 5pm: go back home and sleep

It's as simple as that for a simple man like him, who likes to pet Hirugami's dog

Tokura is actually smarter than anyone expected (maybe somewhere in class 5 or 6)

and him and Bessho sometimes study together even tho Bessho is kinda smart himself

It's what the team call, 'a bonding moment' between these two

Meanwhile, at the Liam's household, he's practically yelling at Bessho for wanting to eat instant ramen every second (they did eat instant ramen after that)

Suwa gets along well with Kita after their match together and both of the team has to get along with each other when their captains form a friendship

(Much to their dismay, but they'll have to be friendly anyway)

And not suprised coming from Tokura, he likes Riseki more than Bessho and ask if they could trade Riseki with Bessho

Which causes a big fight at the court (Tokura, you can't trade Bessho smh)

Nozawa may seem calm to most people at their school, but he's a bit of a hot headed person himself

Don't worry tho, cause kanbayashi's there to calm him down

If he can restrain him fast enough, because if he didn't, it's either a big ruckus inside the gym, someone ending up with a broken bone or someone straight up dead (pick your choice)

(this is canon) but Bessho and Gao are homies and it shows

Gao too sometimes annoy Tokura because it makes Bessho feel better and he might join the annoying process

(someone please save Tokura)

Speaking of Tokura (what, is Tokura my fav kamomedai character now? Maybe) other than Suwa, he have high respect for Hirugami and view him as a big brother figure

I think Tokura is an only child so that's why he looks up to Hirugami and you know what, Hirugami also see him as a little brother

It's a very comforting scene to see when they're being platonically affectionate with each other

Whether it's about talking about their practice to basic questions like "have you eaten yet?" "I hope you're doing fine" and so on

Hoshiumi, Gao and Bessho have a rock-paper-scissors thing they've been doing for weeks repetitively and it's getting everyone insane

Suwa is favorited by every old ladies on his radar (just like Kita) and he doesn't mind it at all cause he likes spending time or talking to them too

I see you're drinking the respect juice Suwa

Actually, let's be honest here, Suwa's prolly the only person that's on the same level of Kita (I wanna see a competition about this)

Because who wouldn't love him?

We all love a well mannered man that respect others with a personality of a REAL role model with good grades, and also loved by old women and old men

Suwa for president

(I wanna make more hcs but my motivation juice ran out)

In conclusions, Kamomedai is like a family

With the 2nd years as DOGS, the 3rd years as the owners of the dogs

And the 1st years as childs of the owners of the dogs

Y'know like a one big family

I would say seagulls but dogs kinda fit it a lot more, thanks Gao Hakuba and Hoshiumi Korai

i feel like. when hoshiumi becomes captain pretty much everyone at kamomedai EXCEPT the vbc is surprised, because . . . it's hoshiumi. he's always trying to pick a fight!! he'll deck you if he thinks you're looking at him wrong!! he's loud and brash and cocky and doesn't have a filter!! how could hoshiumi possibly be the better choice than hirugami or hakuba???

and, well. the answer was simple enough, if they dared to ask any of the other members. if they knew what hirugami used to be like. if they knew how hakuba followed in his footsteps. if they knew how much the first-years looked up to him, and how the third-years have never once looked down on him.

to the members of the kamomedai volleyball club, how could it be anyone except hoshiumi?

Haikyuu Band AU: Kamomedai

AU where all the Haikyuu dorks go to the same high school and are in the Concert + Marching Band together.

Suwa Aikichi – Tenor Sax

Picked Tenor cause it is a soothing instrument he can fall asleep too

Really likes his section and how calm, cool and collected it can be (most of the time, until Kuroo starts antagonizing Daichi or Yaku)

Another go to band member to help the more anxious/high strung members keep calm and focused before performances

Helps out with compiling the end of the year slide show with Yachi, Ennoshita, Akaashi and Rintarou

Is worried for when he graduates along with most of the tenor sax section because there might not be a tenor sax section after they leave [I unintentionally made the tenor sax players all third years so far… oops]

Nozawa Izuru – Alto Sax

Alto sax cause it��s cool and has a lot of cool jazz solos he wants to try out eventually

His favorite thing to do to pass the time is antagonizing the second years who eat it up

Started the bands annual beach day hangout post band camp

Overall a very relaxed easy-going player having a good time in a good ensemble

Hoshiumi Kourai – Tuba

Actively wanted to join his older brother in orchestra (brother plays the cello) until he sat in on an open individual practice and all the sounds of the string instruments didn’t sit well with his ears [I mean absolutely no offense to string instruments or those in orchestra, for this AU Hoshiumi decided it wasn’t for him]

Once deemed old enough to start an instrument he joined band and went for the biggest instrument he could find because he can (and if he can’t be tall and big his instrument absolutely will be)

Is very serious about practice to be the best player he can be

Is a very technical player and has impeccable playing posture

That one tuba player who can always be heard across the field

Hirugami Sachirou – French Horn, Mellophone (Marching); Piano

From a long, long line of musicians so started out on piano in elementary school, went to French Horn in middle school

Because of his family lineage is extremely strict on himself and is a huge perfectionist in his playing and hates it when he messes up because not only did he let the ensemble down, but he let himself down

Has a mental breakdown in front of Hoshiumi their freshman year and que ‘you can always quit’ scene (cause you know, just because you are really good at something and love it doesn’t mean you have to make a career out of it)

After that Hirugami rediscovers his love for band and is back for enjoying it for what it is and doesn’t completely tear himself down when he messes up

His pet dog unofficially becomes the band’s mascot

No one has ever seen him trip, like ever so Terushima starts a game on who can make Hirugami trip first (He just has a really good center of gravity and solid footing)

Bessho Kazuyoshi – Percussion, Pit (Marching)

Joined in middle school and went to percussion cause he liked the variety of instruments he would get to know how to play

Gets along very well with Kunimi and they like to gossip together (mainly through texts of course)

The two of them like to go people watching together during their free time and come up with fun elaborate back stories for them

For the band talent show he did imitations of everyone and had a good 3/4ths of the band rolling on the floor with laughter with his accuracy

Before performances or auditions he is very calm exteriorly but is internally walking himself through the performance note by note to himself to keep himself calm

Hakuba Gao – Clarinet

Joined in high school cause he heard band can be a lot of fun (and it is!)

Picked clarinet cause he saw Omimi play it, and he’s got to join the only other super tall person (and immediately recruited Hyakuzawa once he joined a year later to keep up the tradition)

Had a short phase of living up to his height and build when he first started cause fresh start and all, but everyone saw through it very quickly and he gave up shortly after that

Will still every now and then try to be a bad influence/trouble maker but his actions always end up helping in someway or another cause as Suwa says ‘he’s a good kid’

Is highly amused and slightly disturbed by the shortest members of the band (Hinata, Hoshiumi, Yaku, Noya, Sakunami) because how do they even do what they do with their height?

Kanbayashi Keiichirou – Tenor Sax

Been in band since middle school, chose Tenor because it’s not like any other instrument appealed to him

Good friends with Akagi and they enjoy watching the band from a distance, striking up conversations with onlookers as if they aren’t in the band themselves

Can get really competitive for chair placement and super chill, and never complains when the seating arrangements are announced cause he knows they all fought well for their spots

Has fun, plays fun, enjoys every new adventure the band brings him because there is no such thing as a normal, boring day with this band
