Letters, Numbers and Emojis used for characters and their ships in Dragon Ball Japanese fandom!
So in Japanese media, it's common to use shorthands to talk about characters or media (if you've read Bakuman you've seen the explanation about "Wanpi (ワンピ)" being used for One Piece (ワンピース, Wan Pi (long vowel) su).
Because of their email/texting system, it's also more common to use one sole symbol to talk about characters, but also to not appear in search functions (posts are rarely tagged :()
Some of these symbols have been widely accepted by the Japanese fandom as a whole, but some others are for personal reference only (and as such, two artists may use the same emoji for different characters and nobody really cares).
Today I'm going to give you just a few of them, if you'd like more, don't hesitate to ask in the replies or in the tags, spread this blog and more ;)
Goku: Goku is usually referred as 🥕 (carot, kakarot) and 59 (五九 ; go-ku). This is why the Cell jacket has a 59! You will also find people using 空 (the second kanji for Goku's name).
Gohan: Obviously, his name meaning "rice" (as in shorthand for meal), Gohan's emoji is🍚 but you will also see 58 (五八 ; go-hachi (close enough)) to talk about him. You will also find people using 飯 (the second kanji for Gohan's name).
Goten: Goten gets🍤(for TENpura) and sometimes it's either 57 (because he's younger than 58 and 59), or more commonly 510 (五ten for go-TEN). You will also find people using 天 (the second kanji for Goten's name), but this is also the first character of Tenshinhan (and it's also used for him, as it's the symbol on his DBS outfit).
57 is also used for GoChi day (五七 go-shichi); this usage is more common than the Goten one.
Because of this, May 9th is Goku day, May 8th is Gohan day, May 10th is Goten day.. and May 7th is Gochi day :p
This is also why in mobile games, you have "Son Family Week" around those days!
(this is why Piccolo Day is funny and why people fight over whether it's Goku day or Piccolo day :p)
Those of you who follow my fic know this already, but Trunks' emoji is 🐯 (tiger, which is read Tora in Japanese.. Because Trunks' name is actually Torankusu :p). People will use トラ (the first two katakana of his name).
If you see 来, that's the first kanji for Future. 来🐯 or 来トラ is the short version for Future Trunks, and 来🍚 or 来飯 is for Future Gohan. Automatic translators will usually read it as Mi-Tora / Next Meal and just go into Blue Screen of Death mode.
So I'll be borrowing TruTen (Trunks x Goten) as an example for how ship names work in Japanese. Unlike in English, however, the order in which you put the characters is important.
天トラ / 🍤🐯: Ten-Tora. In this case, Goten tops.
トラ天 / 🐯🍤: Tora-Ten. In this case, Trunks tops.
It's a little more than just "who tops/bottoms", since the roles are very codified (Uke and Seme tropes if you want to look it up). They're so codified you should be able to tell from the book cover alone which way it's going to be!
So when I mentioned shipping wars in the past post about shipping terminologies for Japanese speakers, it's because the tropes about M/M relations are so strong and engrained in Japanese society that some people will refuse to consider "the other way around" (up to and including blocking each other on social media).
As such for Vegeta/Goku, probably the most popular M/M DB ship, the KakaVege and VegeKaka fans tend to be very opinionated about the "correct" portrayal. Anthologies (collective works) will be either one or the other, but not both at the same time.
The concept of switching isn't very common, and you'll see from the tropes that one has to be the assertive and control type and the other has to be a little more shy, smaller, etc.
In the case of TruTen (トラ天), this translates to Goten usually being smaller and more "delicate" and sensitive than Trunks (and so despite the fact that Goten, as an adult, is a solid 10cm taller than Trunks, but you'll rarely see that in トラ天 content!).
Of course this isn't universal, there are content creators and readers who will appreciate both, and who will appreciate dynamics that fall outside of the traditional tropes, but people tend to purchase stuff more easily if they know what to expect in terms of tropes used.
After all, the whole point of being two men in a relationship is that there's no woman in the relationship. They're gay, your honor!
Note that some content creators will use 89 (or 5859) for the HanKu ship. You have been warned.

Kakarot and King Saiya: A Dragon Ball Z AU
The basic premise is this: what if Goku never hit his head as a baby, and by extension, never lost his Saiyan instinct for conquest and destruction? (Yes it’s KakaVege.)
A Saiyan baby, Kakarot, arrives on Earth, and is taken in by a human martial artist named Son Gohan who finds him completely unmanageable and is eventually killed by his Oozaru form. Kakarot is left to fend for himself, which he does with little difficulty -- he’s VERY strong, and in this timeline, he doesn’t have brain damage. He receives little to no formal training in combat -- he never learns the Kamehameha, partially just because I find the thought of a Goku that has never even heard of his signature move to be very funny -- but makes up for it with raw talent and vicious enthusiasm. For a while, he lives a fairly idle life that consists of wandering around, getting into fights, threatening people into making food for him, and dominating every martial arts tournament he enters.
(I imagine Kakarot’s personality is pretty similar to Goku in canon -- still cheerful and instinct-driven, but a bit less stupid and absolutely devoid of empathy. He doesn’t like picking on the weak, mostly because he finds it boring, but he thinks nothing of killing bystanders to make a point. Goku, but Evil in the Dragon Ball sense of the word.)
King Piccolo is the first real threat he faces -- as in the mainline canon, Piccolo uses the Dragon Balls to regain his youth and usurps the position of King of the Earth. Kakarot isn’t happy about this, because if Piccolo keeps killing people, eventually there will be no one left to cook for him. He defeats him in combat, doesn’t spare his life (rendering the Dragon Balls useless), and declares HIMSELF to be King of the Earth -- he’s not destroying cities, though, he just wants to fight strong people and eat good food.
This is the state of things when Raditz arrives to retrieve his little brother. He’s surprised to find Earth hasn’t been cleansed of its inhabitants, as per their orders -- Kakarot explains that if he did THAT, he’d have nothing good to eat and no one strong to fight. That said, Raditz is the strongest person he’s ever met by a significant margin, he says there are people out there who are EVEN STRONGER, AND there are new exciting foods out in space. So while Kakarot isn’t happy with the thought that he might never eat dim sum again, he sees no real reason not to go along with his brother. They kill everyone on Earth and jet off to space to join back up with Vegeta and Nappa, and for a while, the four of them do their job as part of Freeza’s forces.
Kakarot is THRIVING. He’s seeing new things, fighting stronger people than ever, and improving by leaps and bounds until he’s surpassed both Raditz and Nappa and getting dangerously close to surpassing Vegeta. The Prince of All (Four) Saiyans is not happy about this, but the difference is that Kakarot is on his side. They’re still both driven by their rivalry, but it’s much more friendly -- sort of how Goku seems to see Vegeta in the mainline canon, but mutual. They fight alongside each other, as a team, instead of getting in each other’s way, and that makes them strong.
(Some notes on Vegeta and Kakarot’s relationship here: they are in love? The thing is, they’re kind of perfect for each other. They both want the same things -- combat and conquest. Kakarot’s unattached, since he never met Chi-chi. He never really had anything to fight for; he’d never met anyone he could admire or respect. Vegeta changes that. He is burning up with all the pride and ambition that Kakarot lacks, and that makes Kakarot want to throw in with him and help him achieve his goals.
Vegeta is initially kind of furious that a low-level warrior could rival his strength, but it’s not that difficult to rationalize -- it just demonstrates the true power and potential of the glorious Saiyan race. Besides, Kakarot is fighting alongside him. Kakarot’s strength IS Vegeta’s strength. And who else could be worthy partner for the Prince of All (Four) Saiyans but a fellow Saiyan?)
One night, while the Saiyans are resting around a campfire in the smouldering remains of another dead planet, Kakarot tells them about the weird green demon he fought who somehow made himself younger, and how the sky turned dark and a dragon appeared. Collectively, they manage to put together that A) these things called Dragon Balls grant wishes, and B) there might be more Dragon Balls on the planet Namek. So off to Namek they go to wish for immortality. As in the main canon, Freeza catches wind of this and beats them there; Kakarot and Vegeta manage to achieve Super Saiyan and defeat him and his forces, but in the process Raditz and Nappa are killed, and Freeza destroys both the planet and the Dragon Balls before anyone is able to make any wishes.
Freeza’s death leaves a huge power vacuum, of course. So Vegeta says, alright, we killed Freeza, we’re taking charge, and instates himself as galactic emperor. He takes the name King Saiya in honor of the long-lost Saiyan homeworld (and so I have something else to call him when there are two Vegetas running around) and starts wearing traditional Saiyan clothes instead of the uniform of the guy who oppressed and then killed his entire race. Kakarot is his royal consort -- he’s perfectly happy to let Saiya handle all that fussy “ruling” business, since he has no interest in any of that anyways. He cares about three things: food, fighting, and his husband.
So on one hand, they have done the damn thing; on the other hand, they’re still the last two Saiyans in existence, and when they eventually die, that’s the end of the glorious Saiyan empire. There are no more Dragon Balls in their timeline -- but they learn that they might still exist in a DIFFERENT timeline. So Saiya and Kakarot head off to the timeline we know and love (don’t ask me how, I’d like to know myself) to kick some ass and wish for some immortality.

I have like- six?? Eight?? Fic ideas in my head, three of them just a continuation of Reincarnation.
One of my ideas is about the remorseful/ black Vegeta I drew a while ago. I don’t remember where this came from, but one day I thought about that one post from Jorongbak about how “if Goku and Vegeta were fused forever like they were told what would happen then?” and my mind went; “well what if that exists but in a much, much, much more complicated way?”
And then, I thought about how strong Goku was to be able to separate him and Vegeta when fused as Vegito and how Vegeta managed to control his mind after Majin tried to possess him. (This is properly mentioned in my post here)
AND THEN- this may sound annoying I know but listen- as I mentioned in my earlier post about this, I thought that how Vegeta’s emotions were fused together to make Vegeta “Vegeta” (does that make sense? I don’t know-). I even made a small summary of the story.

The royals were always considered mysterious and strange for their apathy and need for perfectionism by their people. Most shrugged it off as "pride for their kingdom," but few knew the secret of the royals. A secret that kept Vegeta by Frieza's side for so long.
Royals were a fusion of emotions. Each one only revealed themselves when a royal was feeling that strong emotion. It was mandatory for royals to not feel too much because of that, or consequences would follow. Vegeta had only suffered such a moment once, before he sacrificed himself to protect everyone else.
Now his mask is falling, and his secret is slipping. Can he hide it long enough before he falls?

Name: Vegeta IV
Alias: Prince Vegeta
Gender: Cis Man
Sexual orientation: Bisexual
Romantic orientation: Biromantic, nearing aromantic
Preferred pet names: Unless you’re the right person, none. If you are among the very few he allows it from/close enough to him, he’ll tolerate Geta or maybe Geets.
Relationship status: Verse dependent as this is a multiship blog and canon can suck my ass, but in the main narrative of this blog, he’s basically in a relationship with Nabooru.
Opinion on true love: Though his views on it have softened a little, he’s still not sure the very literal idea of a true and pure love can exist. Everyone has their motives. Anyone is capable of changing their minds once their love fades or the relationship no longer suits them.
How ‘romantic’ are they?: Not very, due to his culture and his own general comfort with actions and situations considered conventionally “romantic.” He has his own love language that doesn’t jive well with traditional ideas of romance, but he has moments where he does or says something that fits the bill in both. It’s just very rare.
Ideal physical traits: Physically fit is big points. He actually prefers longer hair. Otherwise, he doesn’t pay too much attention.
Ideal personality traits: Strong will I hate that Super really does make it sound like this is the only stipulation for a Saiyan choosing a partner in that scene which is only proven when it’s really the only thing Bulma KINDA has going for her in the realm of what Vegeta could find attractive about her BUT, confident, proud, a fighter (literally is excellent but in the metaphorical sense too), a willingness to let him be him and do his own thing, independence. Respect also goes a long way with him, even in the smallest of ways (might take him a good while to notice if he’s in one of his Tunnel Vision Episodes, but he will take notice eventually).
Unattractive physical traits: He doesn’t really care enough to have too much of an opinion on what he doesn’t like. It’s both a long and nonexistent list.
Unattractive personality traits: Another long list but to list a few: weakness (physically or emotionally), being too controlling, clinginess, basically just being “too soft” in a way, people who are never serious, overdependence, constant disrespect.
Do they have a type?: He’s picky af. So no, not really. Chances are it’s going to take someone a good long time to really catch his fancy for more than a quickie (and even that’s tough to do), so he doesn’t dwell on a “type.”
Opinion of public affection: Very usually no. Even just hand holding can make him uncomfortable. Exceptions to that and MAYBE chaste little kisses are rare.
Favourite canon ship: Well the only canon relationship Vegeta has is Vegeta and Bulma and I think most of us know how I feel about that trash heap. So that’s a big none from me, chief.
Favourite non-canon ship: Obviously Vegeta and Nabooru. It’s a fucking mess and basically the definition of a slow burn but it’s so damn good. Also I won’t lie: I’m pretty weak for Kakavege occasionally when it’s done right. Rival shipping, man, and they’re absolutely gay for each other from the get go.

Yall got some Royalty Based Vegeta hcs? If planet V wasnt mcfuckin destroyed?
Absolutely. I'm working on a fic that takes place entirely on Planet Vegeta so I have many thoughts about this.
He is a virgin until his father chooses a mate for him or he ventures outside of the palace to find one himself.
Rebellious as all hell but he's extremely careful about it to keep his father off his back.
Arrogant little shit. Yes, he always has been, but remaining on Planet Vegeta where he is given respect and his status is recognized by everyone makes him unbearable at times. (Until he finds a mate that won't take that shit)
He's very curious about life outside of the palace away from his overbearing father but he also loves having people serve him and looks at everyone outside of the palace grounds as lower class and unworthy of his time.
And an extra hc that I think would be fun to explore if the planet was never destroyed:
Vegeta meeting Kakarot just outside of the palace walls when they're children and they become friends. He never views Kakarot like the rest of the lower class. It's kept a secret well into adulthood.
And for the Kakavege crowd, this goes from friendship in their early years to lovers in their adult years. The bond between them is strong. They cause so much trouble together growing up, Vegeta sneaks Kakarot into the palace all the time, and he would lose his fucking mind as a royal without him.

Kakavege Week Day 2: Switch Roles

Kindness had never come naturally to Vegeta. For most of his life, the prince had violently fought it, choosing wrong instead of right and relishing in the destruction he had caused. He offers fists not open hands. Pain not comfort. Even long after he chose to stay on Earth.
Kindness was foreign to him.
And yet…
For some reason, Kakarot was sad. It wasn’t obvious though. To anyone else, Kakarot was acting like his usual self. He was grinning ear to ear and cracking jokes with the others. But Vegeta could tell it was all an act. His smile didn’t reach his eyes.
It wasn’t like he cared. He didn’t. He just found it strange. As far as he was aware, nothing catastrophic had happened. The Earth was safe, the food was tasty, and they were going to train with Whis later. Everything was right with the world and yet…
“Vegeta, come join us,” Kakarot said, approaching the fellow saiyan who was leaning against a tree, “we’re gonna see how many marshmallows we can fit in our mouths!”
The urge to reprimand Kakarot for even considering inviting Vegeta to do such a stupid thing was incredibly strong, but he somehow managed to bite down his tongue. Kakarot looked confused as Vegeta placed his fist on his chest and looked for the words to say. It wasn’t easy. This wasn’t natural to him. He had meant to put his hand on his shoulder. Why was this hard?
“Um, Vegeta? Are you okay? You’re acting weirder than usual.”
“You…” he managed to force out, “You don’t...have to pretend with me.”
Was that the right thing to say? Was he doing this right? Was this in any way kind?
“I didn’t realize you cared.”
The smile...it was a real one. His defensive mechanism suddenly went back up.
“Of course I don’t,” Vegeta scoffed, crossing his arms, “I just…”

Dragon Ball Z 111
Gohan and Krilin have come to Kami’s Lookout to take the Ultra Holy Water, which is the only known antidote to the Black Water Mist that’s turned the whole world into demons. Unfortunately, theres a couple of obstacles to this mission. First, Piccolo’s been infected with the Black Water Mist, and he’s champing at the bit to beat up the heroes.
Second, Garlic is holding Kami and Mr. Popo captive inside these little magic ampules. If they attack him, they risk killing Kami, which will kill Piccolo and shut down the Dragon Balls in the same stroke.
Figuring he holds all the cards, Garlic creates a garish new throne for himself and takes a seat to watch his henchmen clobber the good guys.
And they do. I’m not sure how strong Mustard and Salt would have to be for this fight to make sense. They must be at least as powerful as Recoome, and probably a lot stronger than that.
Salt tries to finish Gohan off, but Krillin jumps in at the last second to save him.
Meanwhile, Maron does aerobics while she waits for the boys to come pick her up from Korin’s tower. Apparently Korin just had that outfit lying around when she complained it was too cold for her swimsuit. Why would he have this?
In space, Vegeta is still looking for Goku. His search leads him to a binary planet. Maybe this is the same world he was on in the previous episode? Hardly any time has passed on Earth, so I have a hard time believing Vegeta had time to travel anywhere else.
Vegeta things he senses Goku’s presence on the other planet, so he flies there to confront him.
I don’t ship Kakavege, but this whole “Search for Goku” plot really feels like it has a romantic overtone. Vegeta is determined to find him because he wants to learn how to become a Super Saiiyan, and because he wants to eventually surpass Goku. It’s a new twist on their rivalry, because the only way for Vegeta to beat Goku is to learn from him first. He needs something from Goku, and that feels like the start of some sort of slash fanfic. This shot of Goku in Vegeta’s imagination looks pretty suggestive. “Well, you finally found me. So now what?”
When Vegeta reaches what he thinks is Goku’s position, he finds no one, but he’s convinced that he wasn’t imagining things. The terrain has been cratered out, as if by an enormous power level, suggesting that someone was here very recently. So what, then? Was Goku actually here a minute ago, and he’s purposely playing hide-and-seek with Vegeta? If not that, then what exactly is going on here? Is Vegeta going insane?
Back on Earth, Gohan flips out when he sees Krillin suffering, and he powers up enough to kill Mustard and Salt with ease. I’m pretty sure this episode marked the debut of the “Gohan Fights Frieza” track from the Faulconer score. For some reason, it never got used during the actual Frieza Saga, but it’s used here, and later on during the Cell Games and Fusion Saga.
Gohan seems to be on fire, but he quickly runs out of steam when Piccolo breaks loose from Spice and starts attacking him.
As before, Gohan’s resolve completely fades when he’s forced to contend with one of his loved ones. Piccolo, on the other hand, seems to have no qualms about strangling Gohan to death... or does he...?

Kakavege week - Sunset/Sunrise - 1298 words
Most wouldn't think it, but baring world ending catastrophes Capsule Corp was a generally peaceful place. Sure there was the occasional explosion, but they were contained to the labs (if it was Bulma's doing) or the Gravity Room (if it was Vegeta's doing). It took Vegeta many years to grow to appreciate the constant peace Capsule Corp had and very recently he even started secretly reveling in it. After long days he'd take solace in the sunset. It was the only time the sky reminded him of his home planet. Angry reds and oranges painted across the sky, not a hint of anything else, anything human.
Vegeta had long since memorized the night sky over Capsule Corp. After most sunsets he'd find a high rooftop and gaze at the stars, far above anyone else who could interrupt his serenity. He watched the months turn constellations around and back again, some he learned the names and shapes of from the inhabitants of Earth and others he made up on his own. He'd found the dark spot where planet Vegeta's twin stars should have been and decided the ring of stars around it was a crown in honor of his race and his family.
On these quiet nights he'd muse on how his life could have been different. The first fantasy he'd usually visit was deciding how his life would have gone without Freeza. He'd of course be crowned king of the Saiyan race, ruling over his people like he was born to. He'd find himself a wife or have one given to him based on merit and status. They'd have two sons, the first one of course being named after himself and all his paternal ancestors since they first came to their planet. He'd spend his days holding court and war council (one measly planet for the might and pride of the Saiyan race? No, there would be many campaigns in the name of expansion and power). He'd never make it out to Earth, likely never even hear of it or of it's Dragon Balls or Cell or Majin Buu. He likely wouldn't have even heard of Kakarot unless he did something outrageous (a bitter voice in the back of his mind suggested he'd still become the first Super Saiyan). He visits this thought a lot, tweaking it from time to time. After Bulla was born he wondered about having a princess in that life. That never changed anything, as a king his children had little to no affect on his life except training his son to be the next king. Thinking about having neither his children nor his rival left a bitter taste in his mouth and he quickly moved on.
From there it would vary what he thought about. If he had beaten Kakarot the first time they fought everyone on Earth would be dead, there'd be no Dragon Balls, Earth would fade as a distant memory and he'd still be a slave to Freeza. Any time Vegeta found a scenario Freeza lived his scowl would deepen and he'd drop that train of thought quickly.
The moon rose high in the sky. A full moon, not that it had much sway on the prince anymore.
When all other musings left him he thought of Kakarot. Ever unreachable, unattainable Kakarot. A walking, talking, fighting, living contradiction. He had no memories of being a Saiyan but all the instincts. All of the strength but none of the pride. Vegeta had hated him for a long time, but anymore he grudgingly respected him. He even… maybe, maybe not. His feeling about Kakarot were complicated, he refused to put anything to words before he was certain.
The moon bathed him in its cool gentle light.
"I love him."
It didn't quiet taste right but he couldn't say it tasted wrong either.

It was always quiet when Goku woke up. The only sound he could hear was the soft breathing of Chichi sleeping beside him. He gently got out of bed and put on his usual gi in total darkness. He loved getting up before the sunrise to watch the world gain its vibrant colors and listen to it wake up.
Once he was outside he started moving through simple stances working his way toward more complex routines. He liked the pattern of it all, something he could lose his body in while he took the quiet time to think.
In his head he fought previous battles, wondering if there could have been a way for a better outcome. He still hasn't forgiven himself for a single time he lost a friend and tries to find a way that he could have saved them all from ever dying. He wonders if there could have been a way to talk Raditz down, if they could have found peace long enough for him to know his brother. Maybe having one more person at his side might have stopped any of the death he'd brought with him to his adopted home. He wondered what roles Grandpa Gohan would have played in his life. If Gohan, his son, would have liked the man his was named after.
Goku's movements quickened as he warmed up.
What if he hadn't trained Gohan to take on Cell? He and Vegeta could have probably trained together to get strong enough and with Trunks there too? No question. Hell, he could probably still have trained with Gohan, just taken things seriously with Cell from the beginning. He would have fought more strategically, conserved his energy, maybe even ascended to Super Saiyan 2. (He could have taken advantage of the tournament set up, sending his friends to wear Cell down until he could finish him off (or honestly anyone who could take him out, just doing it right from the beginning.)) He could have at least tried harder, or not given Cell a damn senzu bean.
The crack of a tree being snapped brought him back to the world around him. The sun was finally peeking out from the horizon. Birds squawked and fled the area. He shook his head and moved back to the center of his little clearing. Maybe thinking about things he regretted wasn't the best way to start the day, for himself or his surroundings.
How would things be different if he didn't lose his memories? The planet would be devastated but what then? Would his pod still work or would it have been broken by a raging Oozaru? If it did work would it take him back to the rubble of planet Vegeta? What would happen then? Would there still be patrols looking for survivors to kill or take back to Freeza. Would he have met Vegeta? How would things have changed if he was what Vegeta wanted him to be? They wouldn't be friends like they were now, probably just king and peasant like Vegeta always says he wants.
Without a thought Goku flared up to Super Saiyan. He opened his eyes and looked around. It was full light now, maybe 6 or 7 in the morning. Chichi would probably being finishing up breakfast soon and tapping her foot waiting for him. He let go of Super Saiyan, not really sure why the thought of Vegeta and him not being close made him ascend.
A small voice in the back of his mind knew. It whispered to him during fights and talked like Vegeta did. It preened itself in his power and scoffed at his softer moments. It knew what he wanted and had no problem reminding him. Just for a second he let it loose.
"I love him." Goku admitted to the empty morning.
He wasn't sure if it was himself or the voice that spoke out loud but either way he couldn't disagree.

Madness- A Kakavege Story (Chapter Two)
Midnight. That's when Goku woke up with a pounding head and Vegeta muttering unintelligibly beside him. Other than that, all Goku could hear was static in their link. Something was horribly wrong. "Vegeta! Vegeta, snap out of it!" Goku barked, and it was gone in a split second.
Silence filled the room. Vegeta was stiff, motionless and facing away from Goku. Goku wrapped an arm around his waist and drew him to his chest. "Vegeta? Are you ok? Talk to me; what happened?"
Vegeta was silent only a moment more. "I... I had a strange dream. That's all. I'm sorry I woke you."
Goku stopped breathing. If he didn't know any better, he would have thought that someone else entirely was lying in his bed. The tone and words certainly did not match Vegeta. "Vegeta...?"
Vegeta suddenly jolted. "Tch! Kakarrot!?" He thrashed slightly, looking frantically over his shoulder. When he saw his mate's surprised face, he relaxed somewhat, but still seemed on edge. "Kakarrot, what happened?"
"I don't know," Goku answered honestly. "You were acting odd, then you started talking, then you woke up." He stroked Vegeta's arm. "Did you have a bad dream?"
Vegeta nodded. "I think so. I... Never mind." He closed his eyes and settled down again. Now that was the Vegeta Goku knew, but it wasn't the Vegeta he needed right now.
"Vegeta. Talk to me. Please. No one can hide anything now. Not in times like these." Goku buried his face in Vegeta's hair. "Just tell me, please."
"They were attacking me," Vegeta said softly, his voice clipped. He obviously did not want to talk about it. "I couldn't move. But they didn't actually do anything to me. They just looked at me, and got in my face, and left." His voice began to shake. "But the smell of blood was everywhere. I... Kakarrot, I started to enjoy it. The smell. I still couldn't move. Then I heard myself saying that I was becoming the real me." He exhaled. "Then I woke up."
Goku continued to breathe in Vegeta's scent. "It was just a dream, babe. It's ok. We're safe, you and me. Ok? I love you. Please don't worry." He kissed Vegeta's temple and worked his way down to his neck. Vegeta was smirking now, so he knew he was calming him. He hummed against the warm skin. Vegeta exhaled contentedly, shifting back against Goku.
When Goku decided to get more adventurous, Vegeta pushed him away. "Ok, ok, enough," he chuckled.
"Aww."
~~Timeskip~~
Goku flinched when Vegeta again lost his focus and slammed right into a closed door. The Prince looked baffled. "The...? This was open a second ago." But Goku knew that it had never been open, and even when Vegeta had looked right at it, he didn't seem to notice it was closed. He glanced over at Goku and rubbed the back of his head, a nervous habit he was beginning to pick up from Goku.
He seemed almost to be waiting for something. Goku slowly approached and questioningly opened the door. Vegeta blinked. "Oh! Uh... Th- Thanks, Kakarrot..." He left quickly. Goku frowned worriedly. What on earth was going on? He didn't seem to have whatever illness was corrupting the world. After the first symptoms, it was usually less than twenty four hours before it really descended.
Vegeta had been acting odd for four days. Four days.
"And yet, he's displaying every pre-symptom," Piccolo pondered, crossing his arms as he observed Vegeta, who seemed oblivious to their presence.
Dende nodded. "He's right, Goku. What I don't understand is why he isn't just cracking like everyone else..."
Goku refused to accept such a thought. He shook his head. "No, he's... Maybe... He's... He's been around them so much, maybe it's an empathy thing? I mean, whenever I get sick, he's almost as bad as me. His empathy has gotten pretty strong over the years."
Piccolo grunted, not convinced. "How does he fight then? No. It's not empathy. Sorry, Goku." The tall warrior turned and began to leave. "If he'd let me, I could try to get a look in his head to figure out just what's going on, but I really don't want to risk my own sanity. Thank you very much."
Goku joined his quiet mate, putting on a warm smile to conceal his worry. "Hey, babe," he said, wrapping his arms around Vegeta's shoulders. "You good?"
"Mm? Mmhm." Vegeta nodded.
Goku frowned. Vegeta wasn't a wordy person, but Goku couldn't really recall when Vegeta wouldn't at least speak a word or two. Now the smaller Saiyan was looking out the window at the clouds that drifted around the Lookout. They were pretty in the dying, red light of the setting sun. Goku smiled again and held Vegeta close, rocking slightly as if to some silent song. Together they watched the sky turn black. Vegeta was still and silent, leaning against Goku as he rocked.
Finally Goku kissed his cheek. "Hey, let's go find something to eat," he whispered. Vegeta only nodded and took his hand, signalling for Goku to lead the way.

It was gradual, but Vegeta finally stopped speaking. He nodded, or shook his head, or signaled in some way, but not a sound left him.
"I'm telling you, he's sick!" Dende hissed to Goku. "I don't want this to happen either, but we have to face the facts that we're about to lose him." He rubbed his forehead. "I can try to slow it down, delay it. But this is where the road ends. It's over, Goku!" The young Namek approached Vegeta, who watched their interaction with vague, distracted interest.
Dende stood on his toes and rested his fingers against Vegeta's temples. He closed his eyes to concentrate. The green healing glow surrounded Vegeta, but it was weak. The Saiyan continued to passively watch him. Dende suddenly shuddered and yanked his hands away as if he'd been burned. "I-! He shut me out!" Dende looked at his hands, then back at Vegeta. "This isn't possible." He reached up again, but only with one hand this time. He flinched again. The Namek growled suddenly, baring his teeth.
"Dende, get back!" Goku barked, then hopped forward and yanked the trembling Namek away from his smirking mate. Dende immediately burst into tears, clinging to Goku.
"How does he stand it!?" Dende wailed. "Goku, it hurts so much! I can't make it stop!"
"Shh, shh, shh. It's ok, Dende, I'm so sorry," Goku rambled, holding the little Kami tightly. "Oh, Dende. What did you see?"
"There's blood everywhere," Dende whimpered. "All he can hear are his whispers. Goku, he's calling them- all of them. He's trying to infect everyone. He's never going to give up."
"Who?" Goku said, baffled. "Dende, you're not making sense."
"I don't know who," Dende whispered, calmer now. "But the sickness. I understand it now. Kind of. It unlocks the most base nature of every living thing. But it doesn't work. Not for long, anyway. He's trying to find the right... I don't know, the right combination? He's calling all the infected, but I guess they don't know what it means."
"Sounds like a parasite," Goku growled.
Dende shook his head. "No. No, not a parasite. It's beyond even that. It's something that... It's almost something that turns you into a walking bomb. When time's up, you lose it. Your body caves, your mind gives under the... I don't even know what to call it."
Goku looked at Vegeta. The Prince gazed almost smugly at him before turning slowly and just walking away.

OKAY i used to be big into bulaunch awhile ago actually LOL its a rly cute ship! i like any wlw ship involving bulma so like. u rly cant go wrong hehe.. i think its not a long-lasting ship tho like i definitely think its a young love kinda thing but i do definitely like it!
as for kakavege lol…
it’s my favorite ship of all time. it’s so intense and meaningful and strong and real… there is sooo much canon shit to back it up… every time theyre on screen together theres insane homoerotic subtext going on…
from the very beginning, goku is excited by vegeta. he uses language like “when i see a strong guy like that, my heart starts pounding” which…… like. okay homosexual alright LOL
then there’s the freeza arc, the entire time theyre together is so… like vegeta sobbing and begging goku to finish off freeza for their people… him making himself vulnerable in that moment in fromt of GOKU of all people… moments like this where vegeta softens around goku make my heart MELT 😭 and then goku GIVES VEGETA A BURIAL.. HE DIDNT HAVE TO DO THAT 😭😭😭 not to mention when goku starts hallucinating vegeta (NAKED FOR SOME REASON??).. like out of all the things his brain couldve come up with to motivate him, he found himself thinking of vegeta…… these are the moments where goku begins to love vegeta (he just doesnt realize it yet. its those moments before u realize ur in love where ur thinking about the person often but you dont yet piece together why…)
and then in the cell arc, when goku dies and vegeta SWEARS HE WILL NEVER FIGHT AGAIN???? LIKE THIS MAKES ME SO EMOTIONAL BECAUSE GOKU DIES AND VEGETA’S FIRST REACTION IS TO BE LIKE “alright. well. i have no reason to fight anymore” LIKE FIGHTING IS EVERYTHING TO SAIYANS I CANT BELIEVE HE SAYS THIS AHDHFH
and then ofc buu arc…. the constant moments where they’re worried about each other.. every time they say each other’s names… the fucking majin vegeta fight… vegeta’s hurt at goku’s ssj3 “betrayal” … THE YOU ARE NUMBER ONE SPEECH… ALL OF IT IS SO HOMOEROTIC AND GAY ITS RIDICULOUSHAHDHF
kakavege is just real to me. its just canon. i cant see any other way like to me its just real… to me its about two people who yearn for strength falling in love with each other… its about two people who keep each other motivated to better themselves… its about two people who share a passion for fighting and keep each other entertained,, its about the last two of their kind finding comfort in one another’s presence… its about the universe making sure they find their way to each other… its about soulmates, the red string of fate, intertwined destinies…

KakaVege, 27, and I'm not sorry 😂
“Are you sure this is a good idea ‘Geta?” Goku whispered,shifting nervously in the large leather armchair he’d settled himself in. “Whatif they freak out?”
Vegeta rubbed Goku’s shoulder from his position standingnext to the chair as reassuringly as he could, suppressing his own doubts aboutthe outcome of this afternoon for Goku’s sake; the poor man was getting more anxiousby the minute, and it did nothing to help Vegeta’s burning instinct to killwhatever was upsetting his mate.
“No reaction is something we can’t deal with Kakarot” hesaid in the most comforting voice he could muster.
Just as the last syllable left his mouth, a strong knock atthe door sounded, causing Goku to jump slightly in his seat. Vegeta’s heart clenchedslightly at the sight of his partner in so much distress; it wasn’t like Gokuto worry over anything, and up until now Vegeta hadn’t quite realised howimportant his friend’s opinions were to him. He gave the younger Saiyan’s shouldera last tight squeeze before leaving his side to open the door and greet theirguests, resolving himself to be as amicable as possible, regardless of how muchit pained him.
Krillin was the first at the door, followed by 18 and Bulma.Piccolo had escorted the couple’s sons, and the other Z fighters stood behindthem, all of them looking slightly anxious, since it was incredibly uncharacteristicof Vegeta to talk to them at all, let alone invite them to his house without somuch as a reason given for it.
Vegeta greeted them all briefly in turn and then returned tohis place beside Goku, placing his hand back on his should and waiting foreveryone to gather in front of them.
Yamcha inevitably broke the thickening silence first. “What’sthis about guys?” he asked hesitantly, avoiding looking directly at Vegeta ashe did so.
“Yeah, what’s wrong? Is one of you dying or something?”Krillin added, his tone filled with worry.
Goku chuckled a bit, relieved to know that his friends stillcared for him. He ignored the fact that Chichi had failed to show up, she hadn’texactly taken the news of their relationship all too well, so it was probablybest she wasn’t here for this.
“No no, nothing bad has happened” he reassured them,watching all their faces instantly relax slightly. “We just had something wewanted to tell you guys, and it’s better if you’re all here for it.”
“Okay, what is it then?” Bulma pressed, much more eager now thatthe threat of bad news was out the window.
Goku glanced up at Vegeta, his eyes practically begging him forcomfort, and Vegeta’s chest clenched even tighter than he had earlier.
“Go on Kakarot, it’s okay” he assured him, starting to purrvery lightly in a last effort to soothe the young man’s frayed nerves.
Goku drew in a deep breath, holding it in his lungs as if itwas the secret to regaining his lost confidence, and unceremoniously blurtedout “I’m pregnant!” to the waiting crowed.
Eyes widened, jaws dropped, and when no one said anything fora few seconds, Goku began to panic.
“Fuck I knew they’d hate me god Vegeta please get us out ofhere please I can’t-” his hysteria was cut off as Gohan threw his arms aroundhis father’s shoulders and the slack jaws in front of him turned to beamingsmiles once the initial shock had passed. Even Piccolo, stoic as he was, has aslight smile on his face as he watched the relief flood across his old friend’sfeatures.
“Ah wonderful, another client for my ever-growingbabysitting service” the Namek chuckled.
“I don’t want to even think about how that works, but congratulationsbuddy!” said Krillin, laughing as Goten and Trunks ran to join in the Breigh-Sonpile-up that was occurring in the middle of the room.
Vegeta allowed himself to join in with the infectiouslaughter filling the room, and looked over to his mate, whose eyes wereglistening slightly, and grinned warmly at him.
“I did tell you it would be okay Kakarot.”

I WAS starting a Vegebul fic to mirror Guarded, but after today’s revelations, I need to switch gears to my OTP. Vegebul can wait. They’ve had plenty of love from recent material. I think I’ll wrap up Guarded’s edit first, bc that’s close to done and I don’t work well with too many unfinished projects, but then I’m right on to Cruel Love. I have a strong need for some GoChi romance - kissing, fucking…you know, doing things they DO

Goku punched Frieza in the face
Friezas tail grabbed gokus leg and swung him into a rock
Frieza did his cocky laugh
Goku growled
Frieza did his typical fighting stance
Goku stood up "I'm not gonna fight some one who's over confident and cocky" Goku walked away
"A foolish move.."
Frieza charged at Goku from behind
Goku kicked Frieza in the gut sending him into a rock
Frieza got off the rock quickly and dusted himself off
"Not bad...monkey"
"Humph" Goku began to fly away
"Where do you think your going!? We're not finished here!"
"I think we're done."
"Were not done!? I'll shut that foolish mouth of yours!" Frieza shot fast ki attacks at Goku
Goku doges like it was nothing
'Kaka is so fast..'
Frieza starts to get frustrated and charged to headbutt Goku.
Goku gabbed Frieza by the horns and threw him away again
Frieza got really mad
"Haha you have no chance against me once I transform.."

Goku and Vegeta walked in and flew off to planet Vegeta
Vegeta was scared looking if Frieza would chase them. He took a breath as he felt Goku hug him from behind
"We will arrive in planet Vegeta in half hour"
Goku smiled. (At Planet Vegeta) Goku and Vegeta walked into the palace
Vegeta saw his father busy like always
"Kaka..I have a plan, follow me"
Goku knew that he wasn't allowed to go further in the castle
"I'm going to sneak you in my room.."
Vegeta walked normal and royal like. With Goku behind him
"He won't notice us this way. Walk like me"
"AHT STOP THERE RIGHT THERE Prince I need a word with you and your guard" King Vegeta called out

"Yes father.." Vegeta was tense.
Vegeta and Goku walked up to king

They bowed "Yes my king you have summoned us" Goku said respectfully
"Yes I am releaving you of your duties, Kakarot" The king stated "Lord Freiza and I have made a choice saying that you shall work for him instead of my son, The guards will show you to Lord Freiza's ship" Goku stood up.
"Yes sir thank you for allowing me to serve my duties, Goodbye prince Vegeta" Goku walked off
