I’m not too worried and I’m happy to have you here, but you can’t live with a foot in each world; it’s not worth the toing and froing, believe me. Happy One Year Anniversary!

Hello, my little babies (gaybies, if you will) (I'm so sorry), today is a very exciting day!

Today (well, actually yesterday, unforeseeable circumstances delayed this) marks this blog's one year anniversary! A whole year! It's been an exciting year for me personally, but what a year it's been for all of us together! Regardless of if you're been following this blog for the whole year, we have shared this past year as humans, and it has not been an easy one! Truly, King George in Hamilton was correct when he said 'oceans rise, empires fall, we have seen each other through it all'. Give yourself a pat on the back that you've made it this far!

Now, when dailypocsix celebrated their one year anniversary earlier this year, they did so with custom art. All this blog has ever been is basically me ripping off their ideas and I'm not stopping now! I commissioned art from some very, very talented people to celebrate some of the dream casts that we have enjoyed on this blog and that we will see in the future! Let's all take a look together, shall we?

I've talked at length about this blog and what getting to run it means to me, so I won't bore you all with the whole spiel again, but just suffice to say that this blog means a lot to me, and being able to run it and share all these ideas and this celebration of the LGBT+ community and maybe some hope and some joy with you all means a lot.

They say it takes a villager, and that is true for this project. Thank you to all the artists above for hearing my super vague idea of "okay so it's, like, actors but in colors that match the flag of their orientation" and running with it. Thank you to dailypocsix for always being the best hypewoman. Thank you to my dear friend Jazzy who isn't on tumblr but I will send this post anyway for helping me navigate social issues I don't understand as well and making me a better person. Thank you to every person who's ever sent in a dreamcast or information on people I didn't have on the masterlist. And thank you to you, dear reader, whether you're like @much-brighter-ink and @a-rose-remembered who were amongst our earliest supporters and still show up in our activity regularly and I feel deserve a special shoutout, one of the four new followers who joined in the last 24 hours, or someone in between, for coming with me on this journey, letting me onto your dash day after day, and (usually) being nice even if you don't understand or like what I'm doing. This probably would have been possible without any individual one of you, but it sure as hell wouldn't have been as fun.

A look at the top trends exciting NYC’s consumer VCs

To learn more about the next wave of consumer startup investment outside Silicon Valley, I’m speaking to leading B2C-focused investors in various hubs about the trends they’re excited about right now.

Recently, I shared the responses from several London-based investors; today, we spoke to eight of New York’s top consumer VCs:

Consumer health and banking startups were recurring areas of interest, and there’s a sense that apps and product brands which provide a deeper sense of community are an untapped opportunity.

At USV, we are focused on opportunities that broaden access by leveraging technology to increase value and decrease cost in big buckets of consumer spend. In doing so, we are looking for ways to make products and services previously available to a select segment available to many more. In particular, we have been investing in areas of consumer health where the delivery mechanism not only makes the care more convenient but also more affordable and higher quality; products and platforms in financial services that change the traditional underlying model to drive financial health for a mass customer; and opportunities that create new access to education both for kids and lifelong learners.

Within each of these segments, I’ve been very interested in how new communities are forming inside products–users that come for a specific offering are forming allegiance and increasing engagement by interacting with other users. I think that is a trend we will only see accelerate.

People are bored on their phones, not of their phones. I am most excited to meet founders working on consumer apps that bring happiness and fun to a mass consumer audience, as I continue to believe we are in the early days of mobile and the app store is not dead.

These apps may look like a game, they may be a game, or they may be a new feed, but TikTok, Twitch, HQ, Yolo and other Snap app kit apps, Tinder and others have shown consumers want new apps, the barrier for adoption and retention is just very high. All apps and games have a half-life, creating something with a very long one is really hard, but the demand is sitting on the phone scrolling thorough feeds, waiting for some new fun. We are excited about apps that allow people to interact with others in different ways, in new worlds, using new hardware, or new interfaces.

London’s top consumer VCs share which trends they’re tracking

With the rise of the sober curious movement, we invested in Kin Euphorics, offering consumers a sexy option to an alcoholic drink, creating a social experience around a non-alcoholic beverage that doesn’t exist in the market today. With beer sales decreasing five years in a row, brands like Heineken are offering alcohol-free alternatives catering to this growing audience.

With the decline of religion, we have seen the rise of what we call the “rise of the alternate community.” Consumers are looking for ways to connect online and offline based on specific interests. Examples of this in our portfolio include The Wonder, a membership model for familyhood, Peanut, a social network for modern motherhood, and Co-Star, an astrology app.

Arturo: Kian would do the same, given a push. Wyatt? Definitely not. I’ve never quite known what to do with him. I always hoped I’d have a son like you; tenacious, intelligent, determined... I’m good at many things Oscar, but parenting? That’s a skill I do not possess, and it seems it may have cost me dearly.

Wyatt: [hisses] Get out of the way. Kaden: No. Arturo: Do you have somewhere more important to be, Wyatt?

Wyatt: I-… Arturo: Tell me, is our current predicament the result of your handiwork, or were your suspicions well founded after all? Wyatt: I.. I tried to tell you.

Arturo: I’d be tempted to apologise, had you not indulged in your own pettiness. I kept you away from this role for a reason, Wyatt; to protect you from your own ineptitude, selfishness and lack of forethought. If you wanted out-.. if any of you wanted out, all you had to do was ask.

Arturo: Now.. if I’m not mistaken, at least four people in this room have been conspiring against me; including you.. hm? Wyatt: [nods reluctantly] Arturo: The fifth would be Darien, correct?

Wyatt: … Arturo: I’m going to pretend that you agreed with me, for your own sake. Wyatt: It wasn’t his idea!

Arturo: Well.. it clearly wasn’t yours either, the wheels were turning long before you hopped on the wagon. Wyatt: Exactly, I just-… Arturo: Be quiet! How I produced such a coward is beyond me. Stay there, I’ll deal with you later.

Kaden: I wouldn’t leave if I were you. Wyatt: Well, you’re not-… Kaden: Unless you want to die, stay put.

Arturo: You.. after all these years, everything I’ve done for you; this is how you repay me? How could you fall for the very same trick Silas used against you-.. against us?! Bruno: [spits] It’s not a trick.

Arturo: If it’s not, then it was rather foolish of you to miss that opportunity. You could’ve denied his involvement; or your own. Bruno: He’s not-… Arturo: Not the sharpest tool in the shed? No offence, Ivan.. but you didn’t come up with this, did you?

Ivan: Uh-… Arturo: No, you can barely hold yourself together. Bruno’s too loyal for his own good. Wyatt was late to the party, and Darien will blindly follow his lead. So, I wonder who that leaves.. he almost sticks out like a sore thumb, doesn’t he?

Kian: Don’t move. Alea: You can’t let him-… Kian: Just wait.

Arturo: I thought this family meant something to you, Bruno; thought you knew how important it is to protect your own-… Bruno: That’s exactly what I’ve fucking done! Arturo: Ah.. you’ve made your choice; I see how it is now.

Ivan: D-don’t let me die in this house, B. Bruno: You won’t-.. it’s okay, it’ll be fine. Ivan: [scoffs weakly] S’posed t’be good at b-biology…

Kaden: Alright, I’ll make this fast.. once you leave this place, never come back; you don’t even know who lives here. Stay away from the city if you can.
