Directly when Will says "Well we used to be bestfriends!" and the camera goes on Mike. Why would THAT OST start AT THIS DAMN MOMENT. So PRECISE?

So, I see the M*leven shippers, coming like "No but because El is in a closet!!" nuh uh, she's not. She's in the "Employees only" room. Not in a closet. So of course they called the OST like that so you can be triggered. LOGIC. But they had to precise "At Rink O Mania" of course... Of course 🏳️‍🌈

And THAT OST's name, totally not said by Will to Mike in the van scene, is used when Mike tells I love you to El. Why. Would. The. Ost. Be. Called. What. Your. Damn. Best. Friend. Told. You. It should be called "I Love You" or even "You're My Superhero" I would've even accept "You Can Move Mountains" but NOT THAT. Like, I'm seriously thinking this is the biggest proof so far. Or maybe the biggest proof is that after his love confession, we didn't even get a heart to heart scene, or a scene when they kiss, no, instead Mike just answers to Will's question, which was "Did she talk to you at all?" By saying "No. I MeAn, NoT VeRY mUch" But I'll keep that for another time...

I'm a firm believer that you can tell the s5 arcs from the loose ends we already have so:

Unresolved plotlines for Mike, El and Will:

"it's not my fault you don't like girls" never addressed. never apologised. never explained.

will destroyed castle byers and it was intrinsically tied to his feelings for mike. mike does not know this. jonathan does not know this.

mike never told will what it was he couldn't say to eleven until the monologue

joyce's job added NOTHING to the plot except to keep the phone lines busy, making it easier for mike and will to push each other away

mike supposedly never wrote will any letters

mike still thinks will likes a girl in Lenora (probably)

will lied about the painting, which was the whole basis of mike's piggyback monologue

will is in pain, pining and sobbing, CONSTANTLY framed as emotionally between the couple but has actively tried to remove himself from the equation by pushing them together. The audience sympathises with him and he's literally the only thing keeping makayla going.

we still know literally nothing about what is going on inside michael wheeler's head. but explain to me why he hyperfocuses on will's behaviour during a date with his girlfriend. explain why he uses that soft voice and soft eyes and heartwarming smile only with will. explain to me why his breath catches and he simps for will's art but can only describe his girlfriend as a superhero.

el didn't feel loved. she likened mike to papa in her mind. mike saw it in her eyes that she was starting to understand that she didn't need him anymore.

The DIRECT AND INTENTIONAL parallel of:

"eleven you're being ridiculous!"

VS

"Thanks for knocking some sense into me, I was being a total self-pitying idiot"

It felt like "a fight you can't come back from" and despite knowing exactly what she wanted him to say he felt he needed to "explain [him]self" and agreed he was scared to tell those he cared ('care' but... you don't love me anymore?) about how he really felt because "what if they don't like the truth"

el has barely spoken to mike since his speech

"i feel like my life started that day i found you in the woods" (pans to will's heartbroken expression)

So in summary in s5 I expect the breakup, the confusion, the painting conversation with el, and one beautifully angsty byler fight/confession/kiss scene

HOT TAKE: this scene was NOT Mike realizing that Will is the person he wants to say “I love you” to!

This was Mike being frustrated that Will didn’t understand his problem!!

Will is giving Mike advice on the basis that Mike didn’t tell El something, and now that El is gone Mike is afraid that he’ll never get the opportunity to tell her ever again. From Will’s perspective, Mike desperately wants to tell El something, and now that she’s not there anymore he’s angry with himself for not having told her already. That’s why Will is reassuring Mike that he will have the opportunity to tell her after this is all over. Because he thinks that that’s what solves the problem for Mike. To let him know that he’ll have another chance.

But being afraid that he’ll never get the chance to tell her what he didn’t tell her is Not the problem at all! Mike is not mad that he didn’t tell her. Mike is not afraid that he’ll not be able to tell her ever again. That’s not his problem, his problem is that he Can’t tell her! He does not want to tell her that he loves her because he simply doesn’t love her. That’s the problem! And he needs advice for that. Mike needs advice on what to do now.

But Will didn’t understand the problem and literally just tells him: “Whatever it is, whatever you didn’t say, you can say it to her then.” But the problem is that Mike Can’t! Mike can’t tell her, Mike doesn’t want to tell her! Will’s advice was completely useless because he totally missed the point. That’s what Mike is frustrated about! He’s frustrated that he has to elaborate further for Will to understand him. But Mike isn’t great at opening up and he has reasons to keep things hidden from Will so he does. not. elaborate. He doesn’t want Will to know that his advice didn’t help at all so he pretends that it was satisfactory. Which you can clearly see in his facial expressions. While Will is looking at him Mike nods excessively, smiles and says “yeah” but as soon as Will’s head turns away Mike’s expression falls and his smile fades away immediately (-> fake smile). The look in Mike’s eyes is also a little somber and it seems rather calculating, like he’s looking at Will to check that “yeah…. he doesn’t understand”. His facial expression when he drops his gaze exudes desperation, with the way he inhales deeply. Mike’s face is Not the face of a love struck person!

That’s why Mike initiates so many heart-to-hearts after this. They are his attempts to get Will to understand. “A fight you can’t come back from”, “I just didn’t know what to say”, *nods when “what if they don’t like the truth?”*, “it wasn’t fate, it wasn’t destiny” - Mike tried to make Will understand that his relationship with El is over. That it was never meant to be! And Mike needs Will to understand but Will just misses the point over and over again. And right when Mike thinks that Will finally understood him (van scene) Will pushes him to tell El that he loves her…

little side note: Mike has known that he’s in love with Will LONG before this scene!

It's interesting that whenever this fandom goes "he would call you slurs" or just bringing up slurs in general they mention Billy, a character who not only never actually used any but got called one.

Really interesting.

They neglect to mention the characters who actually have used slurs, ya know, like Hopper or Steve.

They also seem to conveniently forgotten about Neil, who called his son a f*gg*t and slapped him.

Oh and how could I forget... they call Billy fans slurs.
