Fic recs

@nostalgia4light​ requested some fanfic reccommendations, and I always love talking about stuff I enjoy, so here’s a list of Gravity Falls fic recs for anyone who’s interested. Some of these may be well known but I put them in just in case. And of course they’re pretty much mostly about Stan :p

Raising Stakes by MaryPSue is of course quite good. Vampire Stan is just as lovable as regular Stan.. 

by the skin of your teeth by apathetic_revenant is a good one that was completed recently. A bit dark, but not too dark. Just the right amount. 

Time Has Changed Me (And Left Me Full of Doubt) by asbelow has a bit of an odd choice of AU circumstances, a mix between single father Stan and reverse portal, but it's after Ford brought him back and is with the 80′s period Stans. What I like about it is that Stan's kid and his interactions with Ford are really well done. I'm not usually into kid fics, but this one works well. Unfortunately it hasn't updated in quite a while so I don't know if it will continue. 

Cellular Memory by Bgtea is a great one of course, I’ve re-read it quite a few times. 

Any fic by impish_nature is great, and there are a lot of them, spanning all sorts of topics and themes. 

Heart Beats and In the Shadow of Death (based on the JOML AU) by A_Zap are good. And the JOML AU is of course a classic AU. 

Fisherman's Knot by scribefindegil is an obvious one, pretty much a staple fic for any Stan twins fan. It does update very very slowly, but imho it’s still pretty satisfying despite being unfinished because the first half of the story is quite self contained. 

A Tale Of Three Stans by Beleriandings is a really interesting one about Stan meeting another Ford from a different dimension who ends up in theirs by accident. 

Family Bonding by scribefindegil and thesnadger is about Stan and Mabel accidentally getting fused together. It’s great. 

Things You Can't Take Back is also by thesnadger and it’s one of the first GF fics I ever read. There’s also “Pet Humans” which is another Joml AU fic. Thesnadger has quite a few good ones actually.

“ A Pound of Flesh by LogicalBookThief is one that I'm weirdly attached to, idk maybe it's the atmosphere or something but I'm always surprised at how few notes it has cause I really enjoyed it.

the Mystery Nerds AU by babyblueavenger is a great series where Stan suffers from pneumonia when he arrives at Gravity falls and Ford, unable to send him away immediately, has to learn how to pull his head out of his ass. Has some pretty dark themes but Stan also gets a puppy so it evens out. The 5th installment was never finished sadly, but the other 4 have complete stories.

it can't rain forever (we're on to better weather) by A_Beautiful_Beast is a cute short one about Stan awkwardly trying to figure out how to ask for a hug from Ford, since it’s been 40 years and the one in the clearing didn’t count.

“Shots” by LogicalBookThief, I still get sad when I read the part where Stan first wakes up. This fic is where I got the idea for Abuelita being a nurse in my own fic.

Blind Faith by pinesinthewoods  - I mean I kind of have to rec this one after intober. The Blind Faith AU is an oldie but a goodie.

Better Kept Secret by BadonKaDank - Ford did some things on the other side of the portal that he’d rather Stan not know about. But Stan is very nosy and also maybe gets temporarily kidnapped.

I’m sure there are plenty that I missed, and I tried to (mostly) avoid incomplete ones. There are plenty of great fics out there for sure! Hopefully you guys can discover something new from this list.

For the writing prompts, How about something to do with the Joml Au or Timestuck AU?

I think I’ll go with Timestuck AU cause I love that idea and will be writing my version of my favorite parts from fanfics.

Also cause you all need to know, I got bored once and started writing a Timestuck with Dipper instead of Mabel and that was fun. Just little tib-bits nothing really gonna come with it but fun to write. This is just normal Timestuck AU stuff

“So you’re from California?” Stan waited for the young girl’s nod before continuing. “But you were staying with your uncle in Oregon for…the summer?”

The girl nodded. Well Stan thought it was a nod with her chin on the table as she looked out the window, it could have been anything.

“You know summer has come and gone, right kid?”

“I know.”

“Did you run away or something? Was it cause of your uncle?”

She popped up slamming her hands on the table. “No! My Grunkle is a good person!” Her cheeks turned red when she realized she yelled as she slowly sat back down mumbling sorry.

“Well, that’s…good…” Stan looked at the coffee mug in his hands. “I want to help you get back home but if your home is…”

“I can’t go back…” She mumbled as the waitress came to their table with their order.

The girl immediately brighten up at the small plate of pancakes with a smiley face drawn on with whip cream and strawberries. “Thank you!” She grinned and grabbed her fork.

Stan laughed.

They sat in silent as they ate. Stan watched her carefully but nothing seemed too strange about her other then popping up from a cloud of light and smoke. Stan figured he could use a miracle anyway.

“I…never told you my name…” The girl mumbled as she took her last bite. “You just pick me up off the street and I never even told you my name…”

“Well I didn’t ask.”

She giggled at that. “Yeah, but it was rude of me.” She wiped her hand before putting it in front of Stan. “My name’s Mabel and it’s nice to met you Stan.”

He grinned taking her hand. “Nice to met you too, Mabel.”

Mabel grinned back then reached for her drink. They sat in silence again before the realization hit Stan.

“I…I didn’t think I told you my name either…” Stan mumbled.

Mabel almost spit out her drink when she started coughing.

“Whoa, kid, you alright?” Stan got up to help Mabel.

She was still coughing but she was able to get out ‘fine’ and ‘wrong tube.’ So Stan sat back down as she calmed down. He watched her closely.

“Sorry,” she let out another cough. “I drink too fast, but…uh…I got that name from the ID! Yeah, there was one in your car! Sorry…I shouldn’t just assume.”

Stan stared at her thinking. It made enough sense as any, but he was still going to watch the kid closely. Not the best when someone knows your name without you ever meeting. “That works for me.” He shrugged and sat back.

Mabel let out a sigh and grabbed some napkins to wipe off the table.

“Hey…” Stan tried to keep his voice down. “Do you see any waitresses?”

“Hmm?” Mabel looked up. “…No…?”

“Good.” Stan stood up, walked over to where Mabel was sitting, and picked her up.

Mabel was so confused she didn’t fight it.

He ran for it.

“Oh!” Mabel realized as she heard someone yell after them but no one chased them as Stan ran them toward his car. “The old ‘Dine and Dash.’”

“You got it kid!” Stan unlocked the door quick pushing Mabel in. “Now get set, we’re going.”

Alright. Full disclosure. This is a really good fic. But … I’ve never understood the whole - ‘it makes Bill Cipher into a redeemable character’ thing. Bill feels well rounded and it gives Bill Cipher good motivations for the show. But … he’s still actually a rather genuinely rude person who does bad stuff with only slightly more understood reasons. If anything it just pulls him from psychopath to misguided. I don’t feel sorry for him, I’m just six times more interested in him as a character. But other than that - Man is this a really great fic.[Note to Self. Edit this description][Edit of the Edit: Ignore me. I know nothing]

Okay, so if you’ve ever heard of Jimmy Snakes being a jerk and being in cahoots with Stanley in any way shape or form … this was probably where those ideas came from. That and the original Jimmy Snakes character info from the show. This um … it breaks you. If I was going to warn against any of these fics. This is the one I’d seriously warn against. I’m serious. Parts of me wish … that I’d just glanced over this one. I don’t know if I’ll ever recover. You should finish it, bordering on tears if not outright crying. It’s good. Really, REALLY good. Ahh ^^; somewhere there’s notes on that au, and a half written thing.I really should write more notes because I might have lost some ideas for a lot of old aus. Birds of a Feather, A Little Bit Lost, JOML … all the ones that were one shots that could be left as they are and never gone back to really unlike my multi-chapters. Not that I don’t want to some when! Just, it was never a definite I guess.

Anyway, if the mood for blind faith takes me again, I will get back to it. ♥

Who’s a Good Little Omen of Death? [Gravity Falls (2012) | joml Grim AU]

I absolutely love the joml Grim AU by @notllorstel and wanted to draw some of the Grim Doggie. I had the name Ojos Muertos (literally Dead Eyes) for my version of her as a little something different. Stan says the dog listens better if the commands are in English but likes to be talked to in Spanish, but of course this is a cover story so no one knows he’s a softie. He baby talks to her like “Estas una bonita chica? Estas una buenas perra? Si, si! Estas una muy buena perra!” (Are you a pretty girl? Are you a good dog? Yes, yes! You are a very good dog!) and says to anyone who asks that his voice naturally pitches up while speaking Spanish but this is a big fat lie.

Please forgive me if my spanish is off, I haven’t taken Spanish class in about 10 years. To be fair, Stan’s spanish in the show was not grammatically correct from what I’ve been told.
