Fics I Wanted To Write This Year But Didn't, Part 2: Star Trek AU
For @spookyvoidangelskeleton for this ask
Now I suppose these would have been several fics, but in a series or a collection as they're all about the same main storyline: The collapsing of a (or several) universe(s).
If you've known me for a while, you know that I am very into Multiverse Theory, both real life and fictional, and Star Trek with the Mirror Universe is of course one of the first fandoms that comes to mind for me to write my batshit ideas in xD
Basically, in my personal little (fictional, bc I know and understand 0 about real life physics or whatever would be relevant for this) multiverse theory, there are an infinite number of universes, evenly spread around the multiverse, and a new universe comes into existence when a timeline/universe (same thing) can go into 2 seperate ways naturally, or when there is timetravel involved to manually change a timeline: The original timeline won't be affected, you can't change what's already there, but a new changed timeline will be created.
Now, in some cases that works out well, with the timetraveller ending up in the new timeline and never knowing that their original universe is still out there- in other ways of time travelling, not so much. If the person trying to make a change manages to do just that but never notices, because they or a version of them is stuck in the orginal timeline, what do they do?
Try again, with the same result, many many times.
And that's where it gets problematic, because the multiverse gets unbalanced, and whether you see it as a sentient entity connected to the Qs in Star Trek or just as something that Works That Way automatically: the multiverse doesn't want to be out of balance, so the new universes start to collapse in on each other, creating a Splitter-verse and leaving its inhabitants to a fate arguably worse than death (in this fictional world): they completely stop to exist. This doesn't just affect the new universes but the surroundings ones, which would have split earlier and are already more different from each other, too, to make sure the one that was the cause for it all falls, too.
Now (of course, because I can't help myself) this would be part of @thelucyverse , with there being Central people trained in spotting such time anomalies before it is too late, but with there also being time-bombs (yeah hahah) created in inter-universal wars to create smaller, controlled splitter-verses (I say small and controlled here but like. We're still talking about entire universes), and with Central having back-up plans to get people out of the 'verses, in order as follows: anyone visibly IDing as Central (the organisation is still largely volunteer-based, shit's got to have some perks), then everyone whose energy indicates recent travel in-between universes, as these are also most likely to a) be Central and b) be okay in a new 'verse, after that, if there is still time and anyone willing to go back into the falling universe, children as they are also more likely to adapt in a new world. If there is enough warning, they also get out whoever people Central members want to have saved, but usually it just turns into whoever stands close enough to grab and get the hell out of there.
Whether taking people out of a universe against their will is a good thing or nah is ...debatable and still being debated amongst those who do it and those who think that taking someone away from the possibility of dying death in their own universe is vile (as amongst most religions, it is thought that you can only reach the same afterlife as those who died in the same umiverse- but again most also think that there probably won't even Be an afterlife in a splitter-verse).
Sometimes, people are also pushed out of the universe by the explosion itself, but they then tend to die upon impact as they seldomly end up exactly at the coordinates where they left, which leaves them either suffocating in hard matter or in space.
If you want to use these ideas for your own fanfic feel free, just give me credit and link this post as inspired by/ link to my ao3 or @ my tumblr!
Anyhow! To Star Trek... and I suppose this is now SPOILERS not rly for any Star Trek canon but for these fanfics, if I do end up writing them!
I tend to forget which characters are canon and which are complete OCs because I spend Way more hours on tumblr and ao3 + thinking about my own headcanons than I spend consuming the original media, but I am fairly certain a canon Joana McCoy, daughter of Leonard 'Bones' McCoy exists? If no and I stole the idea from sb else's fanfic I am sincerely sorry. Gotta look that up.
In one universe close to what would be the centre of the splitterverse, Joana- as a young child nicknamed 'Jojo', but now as a young teen trying to get rid of the childish nickname- has a younger part-vulcan girl as a friend, and this girl, nicknamed Aka, has, through having sticky fingers and connections to Central, a device that allows you to jump between universes. She's used it before and gotten into a lot of trouble for it, but to her it had always been great fun- until reality is starting to collapse around them while she is visiting Joana, and Joana is the only person she can reach in time and take with her to the next universe.
Distraught, the children are left in a new world, debating what to do, waiting for Central to contact them, hoping that they saved their families- but of course, Central has quite some different problems right now and won't contact them any time soon, and even if they did it wouldn't be with news of their parents: the adult families of non-Central members who only happened to have jumped between universes before themselves are really not the top priority, and the universe is collapsing too quickly to even get down the prio list to 'children',
Aka wants to leave the universe again and look for Central elsewhere, hoping that her moving around will attract their attention. Joana has enough from universe jumps for a lifetime. Thus, they part ways.
While Aka at some point does run into a group of Central troubeshooters who more or less adopt her as one of their own and teach her how to work their equipment and use magic and weapons and starships (not what a child her age should be learning. But then, none of the adults there ever signed up to be a parent, so who's to blame them), Joana goes looking for her family in this world.
Now I could write entire novels about Akas adventures and how it may or may not be healthy to not have a home at all and decide to not rely on anybody instead of either finding new versions of her original parents or letting someone new into her life properly (spoileralert: it isn't healthy at all), and how meeting a girl from one of the original splitter-verses (the not bombed ones) telling her not to make the same mistakes she made finally makes her think about her choices and and and, but this post is already going to be Long so I won't. That would all be a seperate fanfic anyways.
Joana finds a girl her age who looks just like her and acts almost exactly like her, too- the only difference seems to be that there's no Aka around, which made this version of her less used to adventure but also less wary of it.
The version of Joana from this universe- she decides to call herself Joan when they are alone, while the Joana we already know goes with 'Jojo'- her once loathed childhood nickname now a connection to her past- is thrilled to meet her and begs her to stay, I mean what is cooler than suddenly having a twin, and won't it be fun there is so much they can do! As their parents are seperated, they manage to spend their time mostly at one of their homes, either together when the parent is too busy to notice that there are two kids around, or one at each place, guessing correctly that if the parents were to talk about it, they wouldn't even think of the possibility of there being two children and instead just get mad at each other.
This goes on for a few months during the summer, with Jojo feeling vaguely guilty both to her original dead parents and these new ones who think that she is their real daughter, and the girls are just deciding about what to do when school starts again when-
Reality breaks apart around them.
Jojo clings to Joan in fear, and- as Jojo is now on the list of people who have travelled between universes in the past, she is saved by Central, and Joan with her. They are placed into a universe further away this time, a safe distance to the only slowly contained Splitters.
Meanwhile, in the same universe, two people were currently out on a space-walk: Michael Burnham and Philippa Georgiou.
They are thrown out of the universe in the explosion, and as they are wearing their suits, they survive as they end up somewhere in space again, but- they don't end up in the same universe. Michael ends up about 20-30 years earlier in a universe further away, and she doesn't even end up in what would've been federation space in her old 'verse. Philippa is only thrown one universe to the left and picked up by Central. As Central likes to name their acquaintances in some way that makes it easier to identify just which version of a person you are talking to without having to add the long universe number (even harder when the universe was destroyed and there isn't a known number), they ask Philippa to pick a new name. She is way too rattled and desperate to go looking for Michael as quickly as possible to care about what name she is supposed to have, so she goes with the first option given to those who don't have their own nickname ideas: lastname for firstname, making her Georgiana, short Gia.
Through Central, she finds out that the universal explosion left her and Michael connected- but it won't be much help in the search, basically just a way to say 'alright this verse is closer to it than that one', it's still trial and error... (I could also involve some body switching here, idk I already wrote a long fanfic with that trope in the Andromaquynh fandom, but I happen to Like that trope so yeah maybe I'll recycle some parts of In Your Stead if I ever do manage to write this Milippa story. Which, btw, if not already obvious, would again be a seperate fic from the Joana universal-sister story. On the other hand, Aka runs into Georgiana a lot, even calling her 'auntie Gia').
Meanwhile, Michael doesn't have to jump through universes but make her way through just the one universe to get to federarion space. Except what she find's isn't the federation at all... you guessed it, the 'verse she ended up in is more similar to a mirrorverse than to Prime. However, the Georgiou of this world isn't the emperor yet, she's young and Michael is able to influence her enough over the years so that she turns her back to the Empire.
Yes, it takes years for Michael and Gia to find their way back to each other, maybe decades... they also wouldn't have spent exactly the same amount of time apart as they aren't in the same 'verse. In fact, Cleo of Central carefully tells Gia that Michael might have died by now, but of course Georgiana doesn't want to hear this.
Michael and that universe's Georgiou also get quite close, though Michael doesn't want to cheat on her Philippa... of course, after years of this, she might think that she will never see Philippa again... (We are approaching ot3 territory here lol, and I don't even want to think about the potential of ot7 with the two canon mirror and prime versions adsfghjkl because if I finish this story here, I would 100% write a lil fix it where Central! Gia Mikay and Phil go fish Mirror! Michael and Georgiou out of a splitter-verse into the next prime verse in which Michael already knows that Georgiou... and ad they're already at it they also get half dead! Prime Philippa away from the Klingons... heheh sounds like the kind of poly chaos I would enjoy writing, but sadly I have to make it through all the Plot first)
Anyway! Back to Jojo and Joan: they decide that while they maybe should have told Joan's family about Jojo's existence soon if they had stayed in that 'verse, the initial idea of staying with one's universals wasn't so bad, so they go looking for this universe's Joana McCoy. The girl- (nicknamed Anna, which makes Joan decide to change hers from Joan to June because she doesn't want to be half Jojo and half Anna), is happy enough to meet them, but often feels left out from the other two as they act as if they've known each other forever even though of course it's only been a few months... In turn, Jojo and June aren't sure whether Anna really wants them around, whether she might think they're trying to steal her life and family from her...
Lots of potential for conflict! Yay! XD would of course come to a happy ending, with at least Bones accepting his three daughters, dunno yet whether they'd tell the mom... also Aka ends up in the same universe at some point, together with a version of her vulcan birthmother who she had never known the original version of but now gets along with alright... oh and if I do write aforementioned Milippa ot7 bullshitery, this would also be the Prime!verse for that, so all stories in the series or collection interconnect again!
this got... long... and I could obviously go on but I need to go back to writing my Bachelor thesis :(
@whoever read through all of this, do let me know whether you like these ideas and which you would like to read proper fanfic for! Might influence future writing decisions.

Joana (Leonard McCoy x fem!reader)
Summary: you meet Leonard’s daughter for the first time and it wasn’t exactly how you imagined.
A/N: based on this request. I didn’t feel comfortable writing about Karl’s sons so I wrote for McCoy. In the original series, he had a daughter named Joana, so I added her to the AOS.
Wordcount: 859
Warnings: none
Tumblr media
You were woken from your light slumber by the doorbell. At first, you didn’t even recognize the sound because you had just arrived back on Earth after almost a year in a deep space mission and also Leonard’s bell has a different chime than your own.
“Len,” you grumbled, turning towards his side of the bed. “Someone’s at the door.” You patted the empty sheets, long cold, and realized the doctor was no longer in bed.
You faintly remembered him waking up at crack of dawn like the damn senior citizen that he was and saying something about grabbing groceries. Last night you two had been too exhausted after the long debrief session with Starfleet generals to think of anything else but falling in bed to sleep off the space jetlag.
The bell rang again and you dragged yourself off the bed, picking up the first garment you found to put it on before closing the distance to the front door and pulling it open as you yawned, eyes barely open.
“Sorry, I think I might have the wrong apartment,” the woman on the other side spoke.
You had heard Jocelyn’s voice often enough whenever Len called his daughter while the two of you were still in Enterprise to recognize it on the spot. You stood straight, suddenly very awake and way too aware of the fact you were standing there in only one of Len’s shirts, staring at his ex-wife and his eight-year-old daughter, Joana.
“No, uh…” you cleared your throat and rubbed your nape, offering an awkward smile. “You’re in the right place, Mrs. McCoy.”
“Treadway, actually,” she corrected, a flash of emotion that you couldn’t quite name going through her face as she looked at you up and down. You wondered if it was your state of undress or your age that bothered her. Probably both. “Where’s Leonard?”
“He went groceries shopping, I think,” you replied, glancing from Jocelyn to Joana.
You had seemed pictures of the girl before, but you didn’t think you fully realized how much she looked like her dad until that moment. It wasn’t just the raven hair, the hazel eyes, and the slight upturn of her lips. It was something deeper than that.
And as she stared at you with a deep frown – if of disapproval or something else you didn’t know – you finally fully understood why most of the Enterprise crew feared McCoy. You much rather face a whole battalion of Klingons than to stay here, but it wasn’t like you had a choice.
“Typical,” Jocelyn spoke under her breath, taking a quick look at her watch. “And I have a meeting in 20 minutes.”
She looked back to you as if considering if you were responsible enough to watch her daughter for the small-time it would take for Leonard to get back home. Fortunately, before you had to make the offer, the elevator’s doors slid open and Len stepped out, carrying two full paper bags.
“Daddy!” Joana shouted, rushing towards the man and hugging his legs.
“Hey, sweetheart!” he greeted her as well as he could considering the burden in his arms, his face opening up in a beaming grin that shaved off ten years from his face.
You had never seen him this happy and it warmed your heart. You found yourself relaxing and smiling wide too as father and daughter walked towards you and Jocelyn.
He was still paying attention to whatever Joana seemed to be blabbing to him, so it wasn’t until he was right in front of his ex that he noticed her displeased expression and crossed arms over her chest and you standing there almost naked.
“You said 9,” she spoke, her voice hard and cold and Leonard sighed, his smile slipping a little.
“I’m ten minutes late, Joice. It’s not the end of the world.”
“Why don’t I take these,” you said, grabbing the groceries and stepping inside the apartment. “Joana, can you help me put these away?”
“Maybe put on some pants while you at it,” Jocelyn called after you, her tone sweet like sugary venom and your smile looked more like a baring of teeth than anything else as you waited for Joana to cross the threshold before closing the door to give Len and his ex-wife a moment of privacy.
“Are you my dad’s new girlfriend?” Joana asked, plopping on the couch as you set the groceries down on the counter.
“Yeah,” you replied carefully, looking back as she assessed you, that same frown back on her face.
“You love him?”
The question took you off guard because it seemed a little too direct and mature for a girl this young but as you picked up the faint sounds of the argument going on outside, barely muffled by the door, you realized why.
“With all my heart,” you answered truthfully even if you hadn’t managed to say those words directly to Len just yet.
“Good,” Joana smiled at you, the same dimples her father had showing up in her face. “Now, you should really put on some pants.”
With a chuckle, you nodded and headed to the bedroom to comply.

4. “I know you didn’t ask for this.” Established Spones
So this is actually McSpuhura, but the fic itself is just Spock and McCoy dealing with the situation while Uhura is away. But I hope you enjoy it nonetheless!
A Blended Family - Joanna is kicked out and finds her father in San Francisco...a surprise to both McCoy, his husband, and his wife. But it turned out to be a pleasant surprise in the end.
READ @ AO3 | BUY ME A COFFEE?
Spock looked around at the luggage in the living room, the girl sitting on the sofa, and the man he had chosen to love so long as Leonard was alive. “Your daughter, I presume?”
McCoy sighed. “Yeah. She embarrassed her mother’s new husband one too many times and she was sent to me. Us.” He went over to his husband and led him to a chair. “I know you didn’t ask for this. But Bev basically threw Joanna out and she found me and...I can’t send her back, not with what she’s told me.”
“Naturally,” Spock said, and McCoy relaxed. He turned to his stepdaughter and held out his hand. “I am Spock.”
“My dad’s new husband,” Joanna said, and she grinned. “You’re not a typical Vulcan, are you?” Spock gave her a quizzical look. “Handshakes are like kisses. You usually greet people like this.” She did the Vulcan salute and a small smile crossed Spock’s face.
“You are very knowledgeable about Vulcan ways,” Spock said, returning her salute with one of his own. “But I am half-human, half-Vulcan.”
“I’d love to learn Vulcan someday,” she said. “I had a teacher who was a Vulcan. She was such a great math teacher.”
“Our wife could teach you,” McCoy said.
“You have a husband and a wife?” Joanna asked, surprised.
“Yeah, well, the last time Spock had pon farr, he didn’t just want Nyota,” McCoy said with a cough to cover his embarrassment. “We’ve been a thruple ever since. I just never mentioned it to your ma because I didn’t want her to use it against me with us talking to each other finally.”
“No, that’s fine,” Joanna said. “Is she here?”
“Nyota is on a diplomatic mission with her father,” Spock said. “She is providing translation services for a delicate situation.”
“She’s a xenolinguist?” Joana asked, her surprised look melting into a wide grin. “I love xenolinguistics.”
“Oh, I think you’re going to fit into this household just fine, kid,” McCoy said as he relaxed even more, moving to the sofa and leaning over to kiss the top of her head. “I’ll show you where your room is in a minute. I need to call Nyota and tell her so she’s not shocked when she comes home next week.”
“I can do that,” Spock said. “You should acquaint yourself with Joanna more. I will make hot cocoa.”
“He likes to torture himself by making Nyota and I cocoa while he has tea,” McCoy told his daughter with a grin. “It gets him drunk. But he makes a damn good one, all things considered.” Joanna stood up and she and McCoy went to get her bags to take to the guest bedroom. Joanna’s bedroom now, Spock thought to himself. Twenty minutes later, McCoy came out alone and wrapped his arms around him from behind, pressing a kiss into his hair. “You’re not mad?”
“Nyota and I love all you and yours. We knew of Joanna, and I think with the deterioration of the relationship between her and her mother, from what you told us, we knew this day might come. It just came sooner than I had expected it would. But we will love her as much as we love you.”
“I appreciate it,” McCoy said. “Did you get a hold of Nyota?”
“She is already planning shopping trips to decorate,” Spock said as he turned in his husband’s arms and wrapped his own around McCoy’s waist, a smile on his face. “I know the two of you may be able to procreate without the help she and I would need, so this will give her practice in parenting as a stepmother.”
“Do you want more kids?” McCoy asked.
“I would like a biological child for both of us,” Spock said. “I know Nyota wants a child or two as well. A...blended family?” McCoy nodded. “I think we could all parent a blended family well.”
“I think we could too. And Joanna might like some brothers and sisters.” McCoy leaned in and kissed Spock on the lips softly. “Let’s see if we can start when Nyota comes back. We can find out what the two of you would need to do to have kids while we wait.”
Spock had a satisfied smile on his face. “Have I mentioned I am enamored with you yet today, Leonard?”
“Not yet.”
“I do love you. Very much.” He moved so he was standing by McCoy’s side, resting his head on his shoulder. “I suppose I should start making the cocoa.”
“I kind of want you to stay right here just a little longer,” McCoy said as he wrapped an arm around Spock’s waist.
“I can do that.”

Untitled Joanna Meets Spock fic
Summary: Joanna McCoy is only a human teenager who wants control of her own life and to see her father. Spock only wants to return to Yorktown. What they don’t anticipate is becoming friends. Vague references to 21st Century medical technology, e-cigs but no actual nicotine usage.
Author’s Notes: Before I start, I just want to say is that I don’t know where this is going, other than Spock and Joanna in the beginning don’t know the other’s identity. I don’t know if this will be finished or I’ll continue it but I’m proud to actually write something inspired and that the words don’t feel forced or sound like shit (at least to my ears). So enjoy.
The skies are dark, and the rain pours down in the distance, not thunderous, but not roaring either. It lingers like white noise, barely perceptible.
She sits and she listens as another day dawns and she wonders.
It is close to sunrise, she knows, but the sun won't rise with its brilliant array of colors, blooming, blossoming in the sky, fanned out with its saturated hues of orange and red, dashed with pink and tipped with blues and purples.
It will be dark, cloudy, curtains of gray and she feels she may like that better than the brightness of dawn.
Puffs of vapor float towards the ceiling, propelled by her mouth. The old, archaic device in her hand lights up, flickers in the room changing into a spectrum of colors, never stuck on one too long. There's nothing inside of it, just changes her breath into smoke and the action soothes her.
How quaint is it, to hold a device that once allowed the user to partake in mind altering substances, even in the lowest dosage, legal for its day? It is things like this her father is fond of but also is loathed to ever use. (His voice lingers in her mind as she imagines the rant that would follow -- the barbarism of 21st century medicine: using needles and sutures, of amputating bodies, the lack to regrow organs, the list goes on and on...)
At least, it is quiet, save for the ambient noise that surrounds her, as the rain picks up in speed.
Mind, quiet; the world, quiet...
There are no words from disapproving mothers or from would be parents full of disappointment or of distant members who would encourage her and love her. Her mind is blank, silent, of all the things that could plague her, that could end her, and there is peace.
But she knows this is a temporary measure, a temporary cease fire, a temporary peace. It could shatter at any moment, its fragility like glass.
So she inhales, and exhales, releases all the tension, all the aches in her world, for that one precious moment.
And then, she plans.
The bustle of the transport station is alive with noise of sentient beings from all over the galaxy. To notes spoken in a decibel range undetected, to screeching, and yowling, to melodic tones like a harp. The ventilation system allows the pungent smell of various aliens to not linger and intermingle, but for a neutral odor. It's for the sanity of the the passengers, who must all coexist if they want to travel.
The travelers are all in an array of colors from every part of the rainbow: rich hues that remind her of gemstones, to fabrics that make her wish she owned a pair of sunglasses (so brightly they shine), to dark, drab shades of brown, gray, and black unimaginable. (It's all the alien technology, she thinks, allows colors unseen and unheard of to become commonplace.)
No one knows she's there, at least, no one who is looking out for her well being, and she keeps it that way. No pesky mother to nag at her, no step-father who tries too hard but will never be her dad... Maybe if she had siblings, things might be different, but she would never be here, would she?
She's calculated long and hard and deduced she has all the credits she needs to book transport. She's already logged in her ticket and now she's sitting, waiting.
It's a simple shuttle ride, only a couple of hours away, to another transfer station, where she'll be alone for days until her next destination.
She relishes it, loves the independence that comes from the decisions she's made on her own. No one to choose her destiny but herself.
(And she is going to keep it that way.)
It is just another way station in another part of the Alpha Quadrant.
There is nothing quite special, at least, anything of note, to Spock's eye, that other way stations run by Federation personnel do not have. The architecture is done in perfunctory lines of white and gray, perhaps due to easy maintenance.
But Spock is not here for speculation, only here long enough to hitch a ride back on a flight that will lead him to Yorktown.
Spock scans the board that lists the docking stations and their flight trajectory. It is lit up for easy readability: large print, neutral colors. It flashes the information in Federation Standard but slides through the top common alien languages of the region. It is logical, practical, and efficient.
Spock finds what he's looking for, the location of his shuttle, and he calculates its direction. It doesn't take long for his strides to hit the ground, and within three minutes he is there.
The seating for the shuttle is empty, the sign for Yorktown overhead like a beacon in the night. The silence suits him fine, allows him the chance to lightly meditate without distraction.
He allows himself to subside his shielding, taxing after being around boisterous humanoids, some with considerable telepathic abilities. For their safety, their privacy and his, he keeps the walls up. Their emotions do not bother him, as they linger on the surface as long as they were not touching his person. He knows which is his mind and which is theirs.
But it is considerably taxing.
He reaches the first stage of light meditation for fifteen minutes until he hears footsteps in his periphery.
The steps are slow but heavy and it crescendos louder as they head towards him.
Three more steps and it stops, the soft thud of a bag flops to the ground.
The seat squeaks under the stranger's weight and he hears the sound of a zipper slowly opening, before the sound rushes quickly with a snap. He almost believes the zip itself could've broken.
Spock draws himself out of meditation, eyes slowly opening, adjusting to the light, shapes blurry, and then focused.
He turns his head to find a woman sitting next to him, her left foot perching on the edge, creating a triangle with her legs, her knee the apex. Her manner is casual, sprawled, and for a moment Spock is reminded of Jim or Leonard.
Her arm dangles over the raised knee, holding an unfamiliar device in her hand. It looks old, archaic even, but in good condition. Spock is surprised someone younger than he would use such a relic or that it would be in perfect working order.
He watches as her lips take one rounded, cylindrical end, suctions her mouth, her cheeks hallow, before she pulls the device out, it glowing with a multitude of colors. She puckers her mouth and slowly, smoke, or what appears to be smoke, floats from her lips, spills out.
It is a deception, he realizes, as he doesn't smell anything at all.
More smoke, or what Spock hypothesizes as vapor, spews forth, as she tilts her head upward.
Spock raises an eyebrow as he watches. What an unusual individual, he thinks, after a minute passes and her "smoke" gone.
She finally turns her head to look at him, and doesn't flinch or react to his stare. Most humans would show signs of embarrassment at being caught or start questioning him as to why he is observing them. But she does no such thing, stares back at him with a similar intensity.
There is something about her that seems familiar but Spock cannot place it, her eyes reminding him of Leonard with its kaleidoscopic assortment of colors. He knows the color as hazel but the specks of gold and green among deep browns is fascinating.
She blinks then turns back to her device.
No one else is around except for the two of them, another unusual point to this encounter. Also, Spock notes, she could've chosen to sit anywhere -- she has her choice of prime seating arrangements -- but instead sat next to him. Why, he wonders, and decides to pose a question. If she does not respond well to it, Spock will leave the matter alone. His curiosity drives him forward.
"I have found that most humans who have time to spare before their transport has arrived, spend their time doing other things, as opposed to waiting."
She takes a puff and it flows out, her body hunching over as she turns her face towards him.
She raises her own eyebrow at him.
"Well, I'm not like other humans," she says, sucking on the device again, this time blows the vapor into Spock's face.
It obscures his vision as he blinks but it doesn't cause irritation in his eyes, proving one hypothesis.
"I figured as much."
Silence rings between them again for a moment, the sounds of life on the transport station muffled by distance.
"You know, you're not like other Vulcans either," she parrots his own words at him.
His other eyebrow joins the other raised one as she continues.
"Most would leave me alone or they would question me out of concern for where I was going. But you? You're something else."
Her eyes narrow and Spock has the sensation of being scrutinized under a large microscope.
Spock decides to share some personal information, infers that she probably doesn't have xenophobic tendencies, just curiosity like himself.
"Perhaps it is because I am not fully Vulcan."
Her left hand drops to her lap in haste, as her eyes widen.
"Is that so?"
He simply nods, allows her to come up with her own conclusions.
Her lips curve up and form into a smile, arching her eyebrow as she shakes her head. "Well I'll be. This flight’ll turn out to be interesting after all."
She continues her ritual of sucking and blowing clouds of vapor, silence between them once more. He has a notion that she may decide to sit with him on the shuttle.
Spock decides that is fine, notices that she keeps her intelligence and her space to herself. In a lot of ways, she reminds him so much of his colleague. In all probability, there's a very small chance she would even be related to Leonard McCoy at all.
As he sets himself to meditate once more, he inhales deeply. As he does, a voice that sounds suspiciously like the doctor rings in his mind: "We attract the improbable and the impossible with our luck."
It may be so, Spock thinks, but he highly doubts at this time it follows every crew member of the Enterprise throughout the entirety of space.
As he exhales, an empty calm runs through him, before he has his last thought.
It shall prove to be an interesting trip, after all.
Let me know what you think! It’s been a long while since I actually felt proud to post something so any comments whether in tags or replies or asks are appreciated.

🎶 Leonard "Bones" McCoy
It seems so out of contextIn the gaudy apartment complex.A stranger with your door keyExplaining that “I’m just visiting”.
I am finally seeing That I was the one worth leaving.I was the one worth leaving.
- from “The District Sleeps Alone Tonight” by The Postal Service
After his ex-wife forced him to give up the home he had worked so hard to get for both of them and basically taken everything else from him as well, including his dignity, she allowed him to come to her home to give Joanna “one last good-bye,” as though the chance he’d ever see his daughter again was slim to none. Her boyfriend, the man she’d cheated on him with, was there and Joana was crying and it was absolutely the most miserable situation he’d been in since she said she was filing for divorce. But the fact Joana held him tight and said “I’ll grow up eventually, don’t worry” made him realize he could have one last drinking binge and then he was going to get on that shuttle, go to the Academy, and be the man who made his daughter proud the next time he saw her.
When they had the dedication ceremony a year after the events with Khan, Joanna was there, four rows behind him, and he never been so happy to introduce his found family to anyone before, but the fact his not-so-little girl got to meet them and tell them how proud she was of her Daddy almost had tears running down his face.
Send me 🎶, and the name of a character.  I’ll put my music on shuffle and write a headcanon inspired by the first song that plays!

Ole Miss Softball With Walk-Off Win Against JSU
#22 Ole Miss Softball run rules Jackson State 10-1 in the Ole Miss Classic in Oxford, Mississippi. Photo by Madi Osias/Ole Miss Athletics
For the third time this year, senior Miranda Strother lifted Ole Miss to a walk-off victory, as the No. 20 Rebels defeated Jacksonville State, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
After both teams traded single runs in the first three frames, Ole Miss RHP Kaitlin Lee and the Gamecocks’ Whitney Gillespie settled in with three scoreless innings. The Rebels (32-16) loaded the bases in the seventh thanks to a trio of singles, before Strother’s walk-off secured the team’s seventh walk-off of the season.
Lee, in her 25th start of the year, worked her 15th complete game with only one run allowed off six hits and three strikeouts. Gillespie (16-4) walked four and allowed 10 hits in her 6.1 innings pitched.
Offensively, sophomore Kylan Becker collected her 17th multi-hit game after going 3-for-4. Junior Paige McKinney finished 2-for-3, while Elantra Cox and Ashton Lampton scored the two runs. Cox, Strother, Sarah Van Schaik, and Kaylee Horton all had one walk each.
The Gamecocks (34-10) wasted no time in getting on the board in the first after Lee issued two walks, and a double into left-center scored one putting the visitors on top 1-0. Jamie McGuire also attempted to score on the play, but Strother fired a rope into home for her seventh outfield assist of the season cutting down the runner.
From there, it remained a 1-0 game until the third when Ole Miss scored its first run. Cox led off the inning with a walk, before Becker singled and Strother also walked to load the bases. Van Schaik then rolled a ground ball to third that would score Cox, tying it up 1-1. The Rebels had a chance to score later in that inning when Alyssa Gonzalez singled up the middle, but Strother was called out at home and Bry Castro got doubled up at second base.
Brittany Finney led off the fourth with a double to right-center giving the Rebels early life in that frame, but a line drive double play thwarted any momentum keeping it 1-1 through four.
The Rebels got the seventh inning started thanks to a leadoff single from McKinney, before Cox singled to left and Becker reached on a single back to the pitcher. That set up a bases loaded situation for Strother, who singled to the shortstop forcing a throw home, scoring Lampton which walked it off for Ole Miss.

Ole Miss’ Arianne Hartono Earns All-SEC First Team Honors
There are 11 teams, 12 players and 14 doubles teams from the Southeastern Conference in the latest Oracle/ITA Top 25 Rankings, making Thursday’s announcement of the SEC postseason awards a list of the best in college tennis. Ole Miss junior All-American Arianne Hartono is among the elite, earning All-SEC first team honors.
This is the third year in a row for Hartono (Meppel, Netherlands) to be recognized by the SEC. Last year, she was named to the second team and in 2015 she made the All-Freshman Team.
“To be named first team All-SEC is a tremendous honor for Arianne,” head coach Mark Beyers said. “This conference is a who’s who of college tennis. Arianne has established herself as one of the premier players in this conference. Playing at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles she has a tough task every time she steps on the court. Ari has worked extremely hard to get to this point and is excited about finishing the year strong during the NCAA’s.”
Hartono is ranked No. 27 in the nation in singles and also ranked twice in the top 25 in doubles, including No. 21 with current partner Alexa Bortles. She owns a 18-13 overall record, 13-10 at No. 1 singles.
With Hartono’s leadership at the top of the lineup, the Rebels have positioned themselves to receive their ninth straight NCAA bid. Hartono is also in position to earn her second NCAA bid in singles and doubles.
The field of 64 for the NCAA Team Championships will be revealed May 2 at 4:30 p.m. CT on NCAA.com, while the individual selections will be announced on May 3.

Barbara Johnson From Chipola College Joins Ole Miss Squad
Coach Matt Insell at SEC Media Days / Photo courtesy of Joshua McCoy Ole Miss Athletics
The Ole Miss women’s basketball team gained the services of Panhandle Conference first team all-conference selection Barbara Johnson from Chipola College, head coach Matt Insell announced on Thursday. Johnson will join the Rebels for the 2017-18 season and have two years of eligibility remaining.
“We’re excited Barbara is joining our program,” said Insell. “She’s someone we have been following for a while now and it’s a great feeling knowing she will be suiting up for the Rebels. She is immensely talented and has the potential to be a very special player here at Ole Miss. We can’t wait to get her to Oxford and start working with her.”
Johnson, a native of Ontario, Canada, averaged 11.8 points per game while shooting at a 43.7 percent clip last season. In 33 games, the guard grabbed 3.4 rebounds per game and dished out 3.2 assists per game. Johnson posted 19 games in double figures and had her best game of the season against Gulf Coast State with 34 points, shooting a blistering 62.5 percent from the floor. She also pulled down a season-best 10 rebounds in a win over Pensacola State and had a season-best eight assists against Tallahassee Community College.
The Canadian led her team to 16 straight wins to open the season as the Lady Indians received the No. 3 seed in the National Junior College Championship and advanced to the quarterfinals. Chipola also reached the Region Eight Championship this season.

If any of y’all remember this post I made like a month ago, this fic is pretty much the culmination of my Vulcan Joana idea. It’s still a WIP but I’m going to try to upload a chapter at least once a week until it’s finished.
