Ok i was a little wrong about the order in which i’d do these. Here we go with Tim Drake bby!!

So there’s this thing called the “Upside down jellyfish”— otherwise known as the Cassiopea! I saw them in an aquarium like a year ago and immediately knew “oh shit i gotta make a mermaid outta that”. Look it up if you wish.

Tim is just a weird little guy who swims upside down.

Also, all of the other mermfolk have pointed ears that point up, and Tim’s point down! Or i guess technically... still up!

Plz ignore the face on the first pic, I hate it and redrew it a bunch of times and it still looks off. Look at the bottom pic instead.

He walks on his hands when he’s not swimming/theres surface to stand on. He sleeps using his bell as a blanket!!

Tim i i feel like is the oddball of the family. They accept and love him just the same anyway, but he always just gives me Weird Little Guy vibes. A vague approximation of a normal person. Like they’re all weird ofc but yk.

That’s why Tim is the only one that doesn’t need to breathe. He does have lungs, but he is especially not built for land, even compared to the others. And everyone else besides Bruce and Damian have gills. Tim isn’t even a fish, he’s a cnidaria. The oxygen goes into him through osmosis. As long as any part of his jelly half is touching the water, he doesn’t need to breathe. He literally can’t hold his breath unless he’s fully on land. He doesn’t really know what breathing is like.

Unlike Bruce and Damian (and possibly Alfred, we’ll see) who are holding their breath constantly.

This may or may not cause misunderstandings :)

Wow, Tim really would be the worst on land. Jason legit has a bunch of legs so he’ll be just fine. Bruce and Damian are turtles so they’re evolved for going on land just a little. The others can at least drag themselves or slither pretty effectively. Tim just...

Well, he walks on his hands at least? But he wouldn’t be used to the strength and balance that requires on land, + his bell and tentacles would totally just flop on top of him and make shit difficult. Trying to go right side up would just be even worse...

Actually no. Cass might be the worst on land. Cass would be pretty fucked.

So I struggled a lot on this design. It was kinda hard to make it not look feminine, bc the bell being attached there looks a lot like a poofy skirt or dress— and also just making it not look Stupid with a capital T. I think I like the way it came out though!

The Deep End

It was only a few days into Melodys' time in Night Raven College and it wasn't exactly easy

For one there were a lot of students who seemed to pick fights with anyone they could

She almost got swept up into a fight between two randos she got away yes but it shook her up a bit

It at least helped that she managed to make nice with a mysterious set of twins within her dorm at least they claimed to be her friends

If she was honest they frightened her a bit but nothing could compare to what was coming and that was

"Swim class!" The voice of Ashton Vargas boomed

Melody and her siblings had never been allowed to go swimming much less near the ocean, whenever she would ask questions she would be on the receiving end of the back of her parents hands

Melody couldn't help her fear of entering the pool

When it was her turn Melody tried to control her breathing but she couldn't help but shake there was something that was going to happen she knew it and it wasn't going to be pleasant

One of the students who seemed to have it out for Melody ever since she showed up, Horst came up to her

"What are you afraid of a little water ?" He taunted

Melody couldn't bring herself to speak up,she walked away since she didn't like confrontation however his maliciousness was only starting

She sat near the pool edge before she felt something push her forward and before she knew it her being was submerged within the pools depths bubbles escaped her lips as she rose from the pool depths

Coughing Melody rose out of the pool and everyone stared at her she didn't understand why, come to think of it she didn't understand why she couldn't feel both her legs it was as if there was only one.

As Melody regained her breath she looked at her hands and saw they were now clawed, webbed and green.

She screamed not understanding what was happening to her, she didn't understand why she looked like this

As Melody screamed one of her classmates, a blue haired second year called Celine Perrine made her way into the pool before she took Melodys hands into hers,deep brown eyes looking into her own

"Melody look at me, look at me" she said calmly trying to calm the screaming girl down

Melody looked into Celines' eyes with her own teary ones

"It's okay, I've got you " with those words Melody calmed down a little

"Did you not know?" Celine asked concerned before Melody shook her head no

"Well I can tell you you're not a monster or anything like that you're a mermaid and from the looks of it you've never transformed before despite feeling pangs" Celine swam them to the edge

She didn't understand what Celine meant by pangs but she finally saw it Celine had a tail herself it sparkled under the water silvery with hints of blue

"What do pangs mean?" She inquired

"It means pains when you look out at sea and aren't close to it,"

Celine helped her onto the pools edge while Floyd couldn't help but stare before Jade closed his jaw despite him being shocked himself

They had a feeling thanks to her scent but they simply couldn't be sure until now

Nikki ran over to them "you okay ?" She asked concerned but it was clear she was ready to beat Horst to a pulp for what he did to her

"Y yeah j just shocked" Melody squeaked out

"Great now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna go teach some blokes some manners " she said before walking off a dark smile on her face

"Let's get you dried off " Celine said picking up melody as her tail shifted back into legs

As she was carried many thoughts ran through melodys mind including the fact her parents had lied to her and her siblings for their entire lives

A few days later and Melody was approached once more by Céline and Nikki "We got a proposal for ya love " Nikki smiled

"What is it?" She asked before Céline spoke "we're gonna teach you how to swim and control your mermaid form"

Melody nodded as the girls brought her to the pool

The girls changed to their swimsuits before they jumped in and Melody could take in both their forms

Nikki had beautiful pastel pink skin and upon her head was a cap not unlike a jellyfish and where her legs used to be were pink tentacles that seemed to glide through the water with a soft elegance while Célines' tails scales shined in the water creating a rainbow upon impact and the blue seemed to glitter as if made of jewels

"You're both so pretty " Melody said amazed

"Thank you come on in " Celine said helping her in

Melody felt herself shift once more the foreign feeling making itself known as her legs became a tail

The two had some trial and error but soon enough Melody was swimming much faster than either of them and she loved it

Melody felt free, free in this form of the troubles that plagued her so long but she didn't notice a certain Eel was watching her and he was grinning to himself

"Angelfish you will be mine" Floyd promised

What about a jellyfish mermaid reader? What if everyone avoids her because they’re worried she’ll sting them but she’s actually a really nice lonely person that doesn’t like unnecessary violence

I love the idea of a JellyfishMer!Reader!

Growing up she was always taught to be extremely careful. Even getting the slightest bit of her webbing on something can cause a train reaction. She could possibly sting by the slightest contact made. As she got older she became a pro at avoiding skin-on-skin contact with others. Just to be safe.

This didn't stop her from trying to make friends with others. Growing up she tried to meet and play with guppies and fry.

Sadly nothing came of it. Parents steered their young away from her every single time. Pulling them away before they could even talk to her. Even get a word out to her.

“She could hurt you!”

“Jelly stings are extremely painful and could even kill you! Stay as far away from her as possible!”

“She dangerous, she shouldn't even be allowed near our little ones...”

Her little heart broke when she heard them say that to their young. Realizing that she would never get to make friends with the fry and guppies her own age. She would be alone forever.

Jellyfish mermaids were rare, mostly due to solidarity. Most of them stuck to themselves due to the isolation of other merfolk. Occasionally some would venture out, searching for one last attempt to find happiness. To find someone who would actually talk to them, touch them, be near them. And on that rare occasion, they would find another jellyfish mer trying to do the same.

Then more would appear in the world, floating and dancing.

Doomed to repeat the same cycle, if possible.

Reader wants to be different and grow out of that mold. She doesn't want to hide away because of ridicule. She wants to make friends even if that takes a super long time to do. She takes the rude behavior of others and looks past it. Choosing to enjoy her life in the oceans as best she can.

She's soft and sweet and loves to talk and listen to others. She's a great friend to have. She is always willing to help her friends out when possible.

She hates violence and picks and chooses her battles wisely. Choosing to not get in the middle of pointless fights. But at the same time, she is willing to sting and fight if she is forced to in the face of real danger. She would much rather talk things out than get combative with someone.

She doesn't like to be alone but she understands why people stay away from her. It still hurts but she grows. Trying to keep away from the negative ideas that other merfolk try to put on her.
