I suspect hair is really only important to Marcille’s magic because of who Marcille is as a person. In that maintaining and decorating it helps her to better embody her own Self, and so gives her more to work with. It matters that Senshi’s hair is covered in blood and fat because her soul itself rebels at touching something so yucky. She has to neaten him up a bit first

#and i don’t think senshi minds being gross the way someone like marcille would. but i do think the way he neglects his appearance and only #(maybe not only. but mostly) focuses on the physical side of health ties into his extreme self-reliance and self-isolation. which is #obviously shame-based to at least some extent #and it probably does make him more receptive to magic to have a friend tend to his appearance in a way that takes who he is/what’s important #to him into account (kelpie soap). and so he IS more receptive to magic after that point. but I don’t think that’s just about hair in and of #itself #dungeon meshi

SO many people treat analyzing media like it's either a.) trying to validate or INvalidate a thing as Worthy (ie: 'it's not that deep it's a children's cartoon' or 'why are you tearing this to shreds can't you just enjoy it') or b.) trying to flex some idea of intellectual superiority (ie: 'yeah yeah i get it we all think you're smart, sometimes the curtains are just blue') and both completely miss the point that like

a lot of passionate media analysis is just because. thinking about things is FUN. coming into a piece of media with a new lens or angle from which to dissect it is functionally more like 'learning to speedrun a game after finishing your vanilla playthrough': it's a new way to exercise your skill, challenge yourself and draw more enjoyment out of media once you've done the initial watch/read/etc. it's a way of relating to things by challenging yourself to look for things that may be intentional or unintentional. it's coming from a place of passion, not the desire to Assert the Superiority of media OR oneself
