Hey so this may sound weird, but what excatly do you mean with "husky" and "stocky" body type/build when describing Kay, cause these are typically used to descripe a males body right?? Or am i wrong(cause i am no native speaker and may actually be wrong, do correct me then)
And while we are on the topic, how tall is everyone exactly or close to exactly??
Btw. like this story very much
Hello, number 20th anon. Husky... isn't that a dog... so cool.... by the way, no offense taken! I am not a native speaker either! It's great that you're learning! Anyways, here's your answer:
"Sometimes they are, and husky is maybe more common for men, but it's not totally exclusive! Essentially she's a little heavyset, thick in the torso. I play a little bit fast and loose with exact heights cause I kind of define people relative to MC, and folks have different ideas of short vs. tall vs. average. So 'very short' is noticeably small amongst the majority of people, 'short' is still small enough to notice, and so on. Speaking relatively, the scale looks like this: Very Tall: MC, Surpass Tall MC: Wil, Alistair, Shauna Average: MC, Kay, Prii, Grant, Mallory (usually), Dion Short: MC, Teddie, CG, Beth, Catalyst Very Short: MC I hope that helps!"
Hope that helps! When we make characters, we often look at Howard Schatz's image of female athletes. Often time, a lot of female characters just... look the same. Kinda sucks! So we look at these and figure out what would look good.

are we allowed to just send random bullshit ? i hope we are because your characters give me many thoughts im going very insane and i apologize in advanced on how LONG this ask is gonna be compared to others because its probably just gonna be my barely filtered rambling its late at night man idk .
like . ive nicknamed cyril cereal and dion dawn dish soap ( silly story , some of my friends saw me agonizing over a little concept design i was making for him and under his name i put “dish soap” in parentheses because yeah and my friend read it as “die on dish soap” and that turned into “dine on dish soap” (( would dion drink dish soap …????? )) so now hes just known as the dawn dish soap guy among my two friends that witnessed that 😭 )
while im being an idiot im just gonna spew my other random thoughts here:
analog horror creatures in your universe except its literally just the mimics fucking w everyone . ( i love the crosspoints so much hello can i eat it can i eat the lore please just all of it tbh not just the crosspoints personally i think itd be very scrumptious )
kanes name just reminds me of kane pixels . i just like imagining him staring at a computer like “how to horror how to backrooms etc etc” its probably not in character whatsoever and also thats two in a row about things that are kinda horror related
the crosspoints image kindalooks like something that could be in omegamart tbh ( did i mention how much i love the crosspoints ? i dont think i mentioned how much i love the crosspoints yet . i will eat those hexagons . /j ) . like itd be animated and very cool floor or something ( even if it might not fit in with the omegamart lore it just … the vibes . it gives . )
also cyril is so real for having marina and the crane wives in his playlist i love the crane wivesUHH anyways thats it i think
im . so , so sososososo sorry for the length of this i just needed to get these thoughts out of my head ( nobody shouldve ever let me think thoughts . im like that “full of soup” meme but its “full of mixed fandom shit” ) aNYWAYS HAVEANICEDAYyouresocoolbtwiloveyourcontentKBYEE
This made me grin so much you have no idea lol
I feel like in it's normal, labled container, Dion probably wouldn't eat it. But you know how some people will put their dish soap in more aesthetic bottles that could pass for oil or vinaigrette bottles? I could see some getting tasted on accident. Just a lil taste.
And my background is actually in horror, so I'm loving all these references lol
Thanks for writing all this out and sharing your thoughts, it makes me so happy to know you're enjoying what I've made!

can i interest you in a dion & morris friendship. idk why but i feel like these two would have a "only one of them has the braincell at any given time and you can never tell which" sort of chaotic dynamic. i don't know how to explain it i just know that morris would keep a quote book full of stupid/funny things his friends say and dion would end up contributing a lot of stupid shit to that. dion would be doing an acrobatics routine and morris would be ironically heckling/cheering him on. morris daring dion and gisu to do stupid shit and learning which buttons to push to get dion to actually do the stupid shit.
like i just. i may just be projecting a dynamic that wouldn't even work but like. the image in my head of these two interacting on any level of friendliness is just two chaotic dumbasses going at it. they have a hairstyle rivalry that's mostly just a bit. they are mutual annoyances. vitriolic dion & morris friendship my beloved
also it'd probably take them a while to even get to the point of "annoys the other out of friendship" but like. once they get past the vitriol it just turns into one giant bit
i'm sorry if none of this was coherent i just really needed to ramble this brainrot out of my head.
Dion realizes that he doesn't actually know where Queepie has been going every day since they got to this stupid forest with its stupid singing rocks or whatever and stupid ape man thing diorama in the cave and stupid weird girl in the pancake place who yells at animals and stares at him like a serial killer whenever he's in eyeshot. He may or may not be having some complicated feelings about his relationship with Raz right now, and decides that he should at least check on his other little brother so that doesn't go all weird on him too.
He tracks down that awful radio rock song to the Psychonauts headquarters, which he thinks he's probably not allowed near? But nobody stops him when he hops over the floating platform thingies and they can read minds right? Like, if he wasn't supposed to be here, they'd find him. He thinks they would, but maybe psychics DON'T actually force their way into your mind like he'd been told they did all his life? He's learned a lot of really obvious things about psychics recently and the little voice in his head that says that he might only be dating (and there's a MASSIVE question mark there, they haven't actually...talked. About that.) a psychic because she's mind-controlling him into it has been getting quieter and quieter.
He wants to be able to say something cool like "if that's mind control, take my free will any time" except he can't make it sound good when it comes out of his mouth. He practiced it last night. Mom overheard and she gave him The Look, and The Look only comes out when she can't find the words to tell him what he's doing wrong but it's SOMETHING and he'd better knock it off.
Anyway, he flips up the pipe, up the branches, and through the window and the first thing he sees is Queepie dancing his tiny heart out and the first thing he hears is a slightly accented voice say "Hey! You're gonna make it skip!"
Dion turns around and sees a kid sitting in lawn chair with a giant bubble of something underneath. It takes him a minute to place where he's seen it before: Raz, zipping back and forth across the forest on some non-circus business on a ball of...brain power stuff, Dion guesses.
Queepie shouts in the most irritating little kid voice: "Hey Dion, look! His hair's better than yours!"
And the kid gets this giant shit-eating grin and runs his hand through his ridiculous purple pompadour and goes "Yeah. I know."
It started there. And it continued when Dion learned that Morris had one up on him: he already knew who Dion was because he was friends with Gisu. And he'd been broadcasting all the things he used to believe about psychics as station breaks! Wheelchair or not, Dion could have strangled him right on the spot.
But...not in front of his brother. And maybe not where Gisu would find out he did it either. Except no, he can't do that either because Morris apparently knows everything about everyone and maybe he IS reading minds or maybe everyone in the entire Psychonauts is gossiping about them because somehow Morris always seems to know where they're going to be. It's not like the tall guy with the hat who sometimes calls Dion "ladykiller" on the rare moments they see each other, not to him but to Gisu when she's standing near him like it's a private joke between them. He's always smiling when he says it, and it's not a mean smile like the girl in the orange who prods him about the stuff she's heard him say like she's being sneaky. The blue girl and the serial killer don't seem to care, and that leaves Morris, and Morris is a pain in the butt.
Morris likes to give Gisu and Dion shout outs on his radio station when he knows they'll be out alone and then his mom hears it on Queepie's radio and finds them immediately and drags them back to the caravan for "supervision." He hasn't even stopped since Gisu slugged him. Morris also likes to tease Gisu about how scrawny Dion is, and it makes Dion get hot in his chest and grit his teeth and point out that he has an ACROBAT'S build and he can't even figure out why he feels that way when Morris says crap like that. And then he feels the need to prove Morris wrong and Morris AND Gisu egg him on while he's doing stunts and before he knows it he's juggling fire while standing on his hand and then Gisu has to go smuggle a first aid kit out of Otto's lab.
"See, I told you I could do it!" says Dion while Gisu yanks at his hand while bandaging his burns.
"You sure did. Too bad I didn't have a camera for that one."
"I bet I could get Otto to give me one," says Gisu, with a gleam in her eye, and it's Morris who says "oh, heck yeah!" genuinely excited. And so is Dion.
And late that night, when Gisu is sleeping under the stars and using her skateboard as a pillow and Dion and Morris are letting marshmallows burn to a crisp in the caravan's campfire, the two of them talk, and every other sentence that comes out of their mouths is "you're such a douchebag."
And he is. Dion thinks Morris is a complete douchebag. He's going to let him film him doing the stunt, and that's going to show Morris how much of a douchebag Dion isn't, even though Morris keeps calling him that.
Until then, Dion puts more logs on the fire, and Morris keeps talking.

Library Date w/ Luca Kaneshiro!
"My heart will go on and on..." The dulcet tones of Celine Dion's vocals came out from the old record player. The vinyl spun as the nostalgic music played.
Luca Kaneshiro was peacefully dozing off with a half-read book over his face. 'A Crow's Vendetta', the lustrous, rose-gold font read. In the four corners of the book were the glistening images of bullets and scattered feathers.
"In the end, Buster found the Partridge family again. The reunion was in time with Timothy's eighth birthday celebration." You closed the book, 'A Canine's Travelogue'. It was one Luca recommended earlier, and in exchange you recommended him one of your all time favorites.
You shut the hard bound with a soft thud. "It was a refreshing story." You remarked, still feeling giddy from the story's happy resolve.
"Luca? How're you doing?" You cleared your throat, waking the napping mafia boss. "Erm, I actually haven't... haven't finished?" He abashedly replied, scurrying to get back on track with the plot.
"We can read it together." You offered, pulling out a seat beside him. "Thanks!" He chirped, golden wisps of hair swaying as he energetically moved.
"You like this book?" Luca asked, holding one side of the heavy leather bound. "Yeah, the plot's really interesting." You giddily said, your eyes scanning over the sepia page.
"Let's read now, shall we?" You asked, facing Luca with a gentle smile. "Sure!" He replied with a much brighter one, one that could almost melt hearts.
The sun spilled from the towering window, the bright afternoon light washed over your bodies. Your minds were whisked away to a world of words and fiction.
Your eyes sharply followed the rivers of plot, the images of the scenes became crisp in your mind like a clear film. "Whoa, so cool!" Luca cheered, his amethyst eyes glossing over the words.
"She cocked the gun, the cold glimmer of the nuzzle struck into the goon's heart like a bolt of lightning." You read, words as icy as the scene that played out.
"She's so badass!" Luca gushed, getting lost in the books plot. In a realm of crows, vengeance and arms. You felt a soft warmth within you. That smile, it's something....nice. It was nice, you concluded.
Time went by as fast as a bullet through the heart. Pages flashed in a heartbeat, words after words were consumed by your fiction hungry minds. Alas, you reached the ending.
"The crow learned many things; death, murder, deceit. But most importantly, she learned forgiveness. The cacophony of anger and hate simmered down into a sweet melody. The crow stretched it's wings and soared to forlorn lands, with lilies that now bloomed within her, rebirth." You read.
Luca was happily sleeping again, slumped against your shoulder. You chuckled to yourself, drifting to sleep yourself. "This feeling... it's worth keeping." You sighed to yourself, slipping away to a dreamy film of silver and gold.

SPOILERS FOR FINAL FANTASY 16!!!
WARNING: THIS IS A NEGATIVE REVIEW/RAMBLE. I DO NOT WANT TO MAKE YOU FEEL BAD IF YOU LOVED THIS GAME, I JUST NEED TO GET ALL OF THE BAD FEELINGS OFF MY CHEST!!
Personal Rating 2/10
how much of the gameplay (quests, upgrading weapons, pacing, structure, choices regarding 16s party system etc) did I enjoy?
I enjoyed it about 5% of the time. Harsh I know. Up grading weapons was cool. Party members being unplayable and not even being able to issue commands made me feel super detached from them. Especially since characters like Jill, who is often a party member, will go for literal hours on end without making a single quip during battle. Looking at you first 25 hours. Pacing? Yikes, this should have been a 20 hour main story line game, not 40. That, or they needed to flesh out all of their characters better and have a more coherent narrative to support the confusing plot.
How much of the combat system did I enjoy?
About 50%. Fun combat for a while, but with little to no variation in enemies, between eikon's power's, plus never needing to factor is the elements like you do in other ffs (fire enemy: use ice or large enemy find weak spot/take out its legs first idk) topped with the philosophy of the game being quantity of enemies over anything else left little to no strategy and a lot of R1 and □.
Visuals, animation, art direction, sound design, music?
WHY TF DOES THE FANFARE ALMOST NEVER PLAY. AT LEAST PUT SOME OTHER KIND OF MUSIC OR SOUND SO I DONT HAVE TO LISTEN TO SILENCE AS MY PRISE FOR BUTTON MASHING BRO?? also, "a return to ffs roots"? Yeah no. Character designs for the most part are,,, ok?? A bit "done before" ig? Sort of, stock-image historal Britain? Kinda LoTR but less fun??? (Also, I can't be the only one who saw Jill's hair and went: oh hey it's tifa/garnet hair) I just think it would have been great to get that Yoshitaka Amano's style- long funky colored hair, organic looking armor, everyone covered in makeup and jewelry.
Now. As someone who wants to go to uni for fashion and or character design on top of being a huge history buff and leftist: WHY IS IT SO WHITE? AND CIS MALE? AND HETERO? Absolute step back from previous games. All in the name of "accurate reflection of medieval europe"?? Don't bs me. If that was the truth, then whats with the mash-up of several hundred years of fashion? If that was the truth, then why is everyone white?
I love how casually gay Dion is. I'm queer myself. And, I know I skipped alot of cutscenes (I found the dialogue to be rambling, the shots to be uninteresting, and the facial animation lackluster) but why did Dion and Terence have to break up? And then Terence dies?? But Joshua and Dion don't get together even though they had chemistry? Why is Clive banging his STEP SISTER when he had amazing chemistry with Cid??? This leads me into story:
Plot and exicution. Etc. Story and characters- how do they measure up in comparison to other ff parties and protags you've played?
Yall... this ain't it either 😭 clive was SO much more interesting when he thought he'd killed Joshua. Jill had so much potential that ends up wasted. Dear God. In most side quests, she doesn't even have dialogue nor is in frame. Dion and Cid were easily the most immediately captivating from beginning to end. Same goes to Joshy boy. Also uh, why is Torgal magic in the last half of the game? I know he is supposed to be like a magic-shiva-ice dog, but why? It didn't make his attacks more powerful or do anything really....
Benedicta was such an interesting villan and then she was killed (i was hoping for 'villan is partially redeemed and joined the party to fight the real big bad of the game'),
Clive was SUPER compelling at the start with him not knowing he was the one who "killed" Joshua, (i actually cried at the end of the demo) and then he arcs out of it and, dont get me wrong, he still has drive, but him being the "next cid" and having a WAY more advanced hideout than og Cid did when og Cid had been doing this for way longer then Clive has... idk.... SPEAKING OF CID- I can't believe they killed off the one main character who had just as compelling a story as clive plus banter.
Lil reminder: JILL IS CLIVES STEP SISTER?? LIKE EW. The story would still work if it was about found family and friendship??????? the evil mom idea was so interesting and it just kinda... And then clive and josh not even being afraid of ultima? Bro i was just pissed off at those last three boss battles. Combat system + boss battles are repetitive once the novelty wears off. Other party members being unplayable makes me feel less attached to them, especially if they're not constantly bantering during battle like in 15 or 7r. This means that little to no info is discolsed through battles wgen you have control or running in the field. Exposition is only done in cutscenes and heavily relies on you using the active time lore. Im playing an action game. Why am i reading?
Overall, it kinda feels like 2 or 3 games smashed into one given all the time skips. Tbh I would have preferred two parts if it meant I got to become more attached to everyone/thing. Again, WHY TF IS IT SO WHITE? WHY IS IT SO MALE? I am SUPER happy we got queer representation, and I've got no issue with the m rating. But the whiteness? Plus the constant overshadowing of female characters? WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE "NOT CLIVE" BITING "NOT BENEDIKTA" BUT THEYRE NAKED??Also, Jill and clives relationship was terribly unequal with all the postering of healthy communication- like the game was trying to convince me that this was fine, really.
I can not reiterate enough how much of a step back 16 feels in both the context of ff and the modern gaming landscape. I can't be the only one who finds a story about oppression to be spearheaded by a masculine, cishet, white man ( whos arc is terribly flat, ) off putting.
So:
Is it an ff game? Ehhhh uh ummm? Ff is always trying new shit- but I miss the feeling of "omg i love every character, this party is so fun/ makes me feel so many emotions" and I'm not getting that with 16. When 16's cast, game play, story concept, pacing, and execution is up against every other ff I've played thus far (ff7, ff7r, ff10, ff15, ff6, ff9, ff7cc), 16 isn't exactly ranking high. Hell- it isnt even ranking high against all the other non ff games I've played.
Tl;Dr-
a would be interesting story that is delivered clunky, messy, too quickly, and then too slowly. Combat is repetitive and has me feeling disconnected from my party members. Game is PAINFULLY white and male. YAY GAY PPL!!!! Kind wish the art style incorporated more unique and unconventional fantasy elements. Plot (the destroying of the crystals and then the whole defy fate thing) low-key feels like an "edgey slap" to og crystal based ff stories??? For me, It was a bad, boring game that I spent way to much money on:(

Dione | This is one of Saturn’s many moons and its image was captured in 2018 by the Cassini mission. Dione is thought to have a dense (rock) core underneath water ice. The estimated temperature on Dione is thought to be -186 degrees celsius, making the ice so hard that it behaves like rock. Original photography from NASA/JPL-Caltech/Space Science Institute.

Nitpicking on time passage in Psychonauts 2
Can someone explain how much time passed between events and people’s general age in the in-universe game? It’s throwing me off.
Ok so first the Psychic 7 were getting together and doing brain stuff, then some years pass, then Lucretia goes back to her homeland, then at some point she’s Maligula (after more years pass?), then Maligula is taken down and skip 20 years to present events. Or did I miss anything.
It looks like Raz’s father Augustus is... Going backwards in time, still a short little kid as depicted in the quilt level, when Lucy and him meet as “parent and child”. Let’s say 10-15yrs. Dion is... older than Raz, age unsure, I feel like I read 14yrs somewhere but wriggle room is fine. Ok, so let’s say August is 15yrs, and 6 years later at 21yrs, he has met Donatella and the two have baby Augustus. Kind of early to me but moving on. 14 years later, Augustus is 35 yrs old and has 10 yr old Raz and 14 yr old Dion? I guess?
More persnicky details, esp about Lucy. So she’s kind of the oldest looking member of the psychic 7 tbh. I mean, granted, she could have aged a lot, which would be fair. But that slight quiver and apparent forgetfulness, and delicate looking rendered old person’s skin (nice detail!).... I kind of vibe idk 70′s or 80′s? (I’m not very good at people’s age). So 20 yrs earlier, in her 50′s, she was reigning terror as Maligula? (Which ngl is kind of cool, narratively.)
(I’m being completely subjective in this part.) Although the game narrative mentions her being a young woman when she went back to Grulovia. IDK what “young woman” could be, but let’s be broad and call that uhhhh 20-35? 40? Although I kind of want to age her up when she met Ford and was doing Psychonauts stuff. (18-20 yrs old is baby to me, for that. Edit: belatedly, I forgot she lost a husband before meeting the early Psychonauts. So mid 20′s, 30′s or older in my mind.) Also, again, she seems like she might have been one of the older ones in the group, at least at the end when she appears with everyone else. Ok let’s say she went back to Grulovia at.... idk 30-35yrs. 15-20 ish yrs of Maligula work? Her Maligula career, if you will?
Look, otherwise there are some giant time leaps between “Young country woman” to “Nona the very old, quivering, forgetful adorable grandmother that is clearly same or older age as grey haired Ford” and 20 yrs is not enough for that. So I’m going to put some buffer time when she was in Grulovia, and also I’m headcannoning her as actually one of the older Psychic 7 members. Although Maybe Otto seems older tbh.
I can’t tell how old Ford is at any point, but tbh the “I was writing love letters!” era + his dark hair could be 25-50 and I’d believe it. The constraint of the dapper dark hair style of his stamp image (and other impressions from time vault images) would put him more in the middle of that age range? Otherwise, love letters are eternal and all ages imo.
Also Ford looked like he might have aged dramatically after the astrolathe (in the memory vault images), so again, ages are kind of out the window in this game. Maybe Lucy is actually like 50 or 60 in the game in current era, just really aged. Who knows.
Honestly Bob looks the most accurate vibes of “oh yeah he was idk 30′s or older and happily married with Helmut but worried about Lucy; cue Maligula fight around then; and then 20 yrs later he’s a bit of scraggly mess at 50′s or older with grey in his hair. He’ll clean up with a haircut.” Like the timeline flows fine with that character.
Also, what year is it in the psychonauts universe. Who knows. I read somewhere “hippie 1960′s + 20 yrs = 1980′s” but again there’s that buffer of Maligula years, and also the technology and time line of the universe is “?”. The computers do look a little retro. Apparently no one has cellphones. (Edit: except... Hollis’s phone?) Who knows.

I tried.
For the past couple of days, I've been freaking out over this image found by @night-rise7474
Tumblr media
And trying to figure what sort of thing I could tie it to.
And, I think I have found it.
When I saw it, I thought of the goddess Nyx, the Greek goddess of the night, who was so powerful and beautiful even Zeus was scared of her, the guy who banged practically everything he saw despite also fearing the rage of his wife. It could also be Hecate with the whole statue thing going on, and in some older myths, Hecate was Nyx's daugter, so if could be either.
I also began trying to find things linking to Luz's name (Luz being light, and Noceda apparently being 'field of nut trees.') The most powerful source of light is the Sun, but stars could also count with the reoccurring star motif, so that could lead me somewhere.
Then, I remembered that it is set on the remains of a giant titan thing, and that Greek mythology sure loved titans. Demons are an integral part in The Owl House, Hecate did rule over the Underworld. Though it may not be a perfect fit, we can get somewhere.
So, I wanted to find someone relating to light/stars/the Sun, Nyx/Hecate, Greek mythology and possibly titans and the Underworld.
And I found multiple options.
First was Hemera, the personification and primordial goddess of the day. She was one of the daughters of Nyx and Erebus, a primordial god and personification of darkness. She had a brother called Aether, the personification of the upper sky and the pure air Gods breathe on Olympus.
It was said that Nyx and Hemera greet eachother as they past a threshold of bronze, and while one goes through, the other goes out, creating the day and night sky.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The door Luz goes through to go to the Boiling Isles is coloured with browns, bronzes and yellows that emits a yellow glow once opened/summoned. The door is obviously Eda's with the themes and colours, but it sounds similar to this threshold with the golden glow being a sunrise or a sunset. Because I'm assuming Luz is Hemera and how she's going into the Underworld, it's a sunset and the shadow is Nyx.
As far as we know, there are only two dimension: ours and the realm the Boiling Isles is. Ours has only humans and live animals, while the Boiling Isles has witches, demons and other mythical creatures usually associated with the dead and the Underworld (also keep in mind of how witches evolved from humans, like how ghosts can.)
The Underworld is invisible to humans (note how there needs to be a physical portal for a modern human to get there,) the six main rivers: the Styx (hatred), the Acheron (pain), the Lethe (forgetfulness), the Phelgethon (fire that leads to Tartarus), the Cocytus (wailing), and the Oceanus (encircles the world and separates the east end of the Underworld from the human one.) And how it is an Isle surrounded by murky waters.
The first thing Luz notes about the place is about how weird it is that it even impresses her. Also, this was the original idea for The Owl House:
Tumblr media
And where do dead souls go to when they die in Greek mythology? The Underworld. It may be possible that the other Luz may be in the other world, or is the affect of the Boiling Isles taking a toll on her. Afterall, witches came from humans and didn't have to use physical means to do magic. Who knows what affect could happen to a human using and learning magic this quickly and at such a young age (with alot of power by the moon ritual, but that could also just be Willow.)
Second was Melinoë, a cyhthonic nymph or goddess as bringer of nightmares and madness. Her mother was Persephone who had sex with Zeus disguised as Plouton next to the river Cocytus. However, some context may be needed for Zeus.
In the hymn, this knowledge came from the Orphic that had the belief that Zeus and Hades were the same person (Hades in Greek mythology is described as the Zeus of the Underworld,) and two facets of the same god and divine power. Persephone was already upset at her state of being tied to the Underworld and not being able to see her mother, but her loss of virginity and the pregnancy only made it worse for her, made her child inherit her madness and union.
She gave birth next to the Cocytus (there were only four rivers in the Orphic,) She is described with the traits of a typical moon goddess: with bright, long hair and overall very wise and beautiful. She is one of the only Greek goddesses described as being "clad in saffron," the other being Hecate in the Orphic, who is pretty relevant if we're running with my other theory. If we look at Luz, she had short dark hair (that, to note, used to be long,) with a half purple top and blue-ish or purple-ish leggings, who isn't the brightest person ever. The designs are the complete opposite. In an 1887 translation by Thomas Taylor suggests her being a half black and white being from Zeus/Leuke and Pluto, adding onto the duality between our Luz and "creepy Luz."
When they say "clad in saffron," most would turn to the colour, which is a light gold. However, saffron could also be the flower, which is actually purple in colour.
Her name can be linked to the ancient Greek word "mēlinos" which means, "having the colour of quince", from melon which means "tree fruit." The colour of a quince's fruit (a yellowish green,) symbolises illness or death. Again, her last name Noceda that links to nut trees links to a quince: a fruit tree. It's also grown for it's pink and white flowers. The seeds of the fruit contain nitriles, which can turn into hydrogen cyanide (a toxic gas,) that can kill the person if eaten in a large quantity, which is an opposite of a nut which is a safe, edible, dry seed. I may be digging to deep with this one, but I thought it may be cool.
She terrifies humans by turning into night terrors that can drive them insane. She appears on a bronze tablet used for a private ritual known as magic, specifically divination (bronze was known to drive evil spirits away and protect the people performing it.) It's triangular with a hole in the middle, similar to the planchette used for the Ouija board. In mythology, triplicity and the number three is very important. Melinoë, Phoebe and Dione take up one corner of the triangle, with the word Amibousa written underneath eachothers' feet, referring to the different phases of the moon.
Last is the Phosphorus, or the morning star. In Greek mythology, it is Venus in its morning appearance. The name hasn't got a specifc meaning, but common interpretations says it means "dawn-bringer" that could link it to Hecate (closely linked to torches,) or it could be linked to Lucifer. His parents can vary from Astraeus and Eos, Cephalus and Eos, or Atlas. While some sources suggests that Hesperus (the evening star, Venus in its evening apperance,) and Phosphorus are identical but different beings, other myths say they were the same person.
This, of course, could mean that the shadow Luz is a foil of Luz's personality, or a certain type of magic or affect on her by performing so much magic. It could be a prophecy, or it could be a sort of alter ego.
By know, I think you've noticed a pattern with these options and the moon and stars. The symbol for the Blight family is a star, moon rituals are performed when the moon is full, Luz finds her second spell with the stars, the interesting scene on the roof of the Owl House living room is on the ceiling that also involves stars, and this Luz has the pattern of the night sky on her. This is my main belief as to why the main secrets are linked to Nyx and moon/star themed gods and goddesses, mainly the inhabitants of the Underworld. Since Luz means light, and is from the opposite realm, I associated her with either the sun or stars. My point is is that either she has a storm coming or is the storm.

ASTROLOGY OBSERVATIONS.
1. A lot of Aquarius risings grow up in a single mother household. The father either dies early, leaves the mother, or the child is adopted by a single mother.
2. Moon in Leo's girls love to tie their hair in a bulb.
3. Off all the men in the zodiac, Aries, Aquarius and Virgo men are the most likely to be sexually fluid. Aries men because of their insane sex drive, Aquarius because they're so open minded and will try anything, idk about Virgo tho.
4. If you have Pluto touching your ascendant, you have a lot of secret admirers who really like you but are intimidated. Overtime, they may actually start to hate you because of how you make them feel.
5. All Aquarius women know how to really love and care for themselves and this is why they are happy being single for a really really long time.
6. When they're out and about, Scorpio midheaven/Pluto in the 10th look like they're angry and will kill you if you approach them.
7. If you have Saturn in the first, "My life is heavy" is a phrase that you can relate to.
5. If you have your moon touching pluto, you can remain incredibly cool and calm on the outside while you're experiencing really painful feelings.
6. All Aquarius women know how to fight. They will beat your ass if you try them. These ladies are strong. But it takes a lot to get them really angry. They'd rather just ignore you. Forever.
7. Sagittarius and Taurus are attracted to each other for whatever reason ??
8. Venus in Scorpio people may decide to remain single because they hate how intense and possessive they get when they like someone.
9. Moon in Taurus people love to practice self care.
10. If you have Moon touching Uranus, you have strong intuition about people that is always right.
11. Singers who have Uranus in the 3rd may have voices that defy their sex or is difficult to classify. Male singers with Uranus in the third may be able to hit soprano notes with ease, Eg Alex newell, Tonex. Females may have voices that confuse people and is difficult to classify. Eg, Kelly Price, Celine Dion.
12. Sun/ Mercury and Chiron/mercury are usually people who can heal themselves with affirmations.
13. Chiron in the 8th may be people who have suffered sexual trauma early in life and may need some healing before they really start to enjoy sex.
14. Celebrities who have Pluto touching their midheaven have really powerful public image and can have a cult like following. Beyonce, Zendaya, Zac Efron, Rihanna.
15. Singers and actors who have moon in the 10th or touching their midheaven are those who can easily make people cry with their voices or roles.
16. If you have Saturn in the 12th, "Devastating loneliness" is a phrase that you can relate to.

Vidding absolutely counts as a fandom, and Escapade is key to the history of vidding.
Notice how the terminology shifts over the course of Escapade: The first year, it’s ‘songtapes’ being shown, then ‘songvid’ or ‘song video’ predominates for much of the 90s, and then we move on to ‘vidding’ and ‘vids’.
The vidshow moves from being more of a curated presentation of old favorites to having a lot of premieres. It goes from just one night to two, then back to one. Vidshow panels where you just watch vids for a whole panel slot come and go. In 1998, vid review starts up: This is a Sunday morning panel for in-depth critique of the vids shown the previous night and is a famously contentious part of the con. And then there was this:
2002, Friday, 6pm - VividCon Discussion (Come discuss the proposed VividCon, tentative time/location, August/Chicago.)
Yep. Escapade was where Vividcon was born!
By 2008, people were talking about how vidding had moved on from Escapade. In 2011 a vidshow retrospective was added to try to counter the lack of vidding-centric programming. There was a big resurgence for a few years, including such hard-hitting topics as:
2016 - Vidding Aesthetics (”Why is there so much show audio in this vid?", "Why didn't that cut hit on the beat?", "What do you mean 'Cheesy?' She's Celine Dion!" and other immortal questions of vidding aesthetics. If you've ever watched a vid, we want your opinions.)
Why yes, it was my panel. Why do you ask?
There were rounds of warnings wank, caused by Oz vids and by that time Absolute Destiny sent a vid of a violent coming of age film.
Check out this 1994 panel description from Fanlore:
"[The technology in fandom panel] included several things that people can now do in-home that they couldn't do five years ago: cutting and splicing songs on Macintosh computers (to remove inappropriate choruses, verses, or the word "girl"); the soon-to-be-easier ability to select different people from different clips and combine them onto a new background (also for songtapes); printing vhs video frames directly to computer screens, printers and/or color copiers (for fun); and zines and/or libraries on disk. Most of the new technology possibilities were followed by comments that the actual work we can do is illegal [...]. Which comments were followed by the statements that seventeen years ago, writing and publishing a slash fanzine was illegal.... [...] a few people [...], talked to me at different times throughout the con about getting accounts or modems [...]”
This is interesting not just technologically but aesthetically. Is the word ‘girl’ bad in a slashvid? Different communities have disagreed.
Conversations about digital vidding and digital vs. VCR really heated up around 2001, much later than you might expect if you’re coming out of an AMV background. While most of Youtube vids on Sony Vegas--a Windows-only program--at Escapade, Mac has been the norm.
The topics that have remained big are vidding aesthetics, including things like how to make an effective pimp vid, discussions of hosting options and where the community is hanging out now, and how-tos for people who want to get into vidding.
(And before anyone asks, the answer is that you should download DaVinci Resolve because it’s free and cross-platform. And you should encode with h.264 because it’s widely compatible.)
The 2020 vidding panels are:
Vidding 101: The Vid Bunny Farm So you’ve had an idea, and it’s gnawing on your leg? Or maybe you have too many vid ideas and can’t choose? Or you want to make a vid but don’t know where to even start? Aspiring fan vidders, unsure-vidders-to-be, and experienced vidders welcome alike to share vid bunnies, brainstorm together, and talk about the processes of conceptualizing a vid.
Vidding Genres Then & Now We’ve come a long way from “living room vids” vs ‚”con vids‚” or have we? Let’s talk about evolving fanvid genres, from ship vids to AU vids to multivids, from character vids to fake trailers, from genre-bending vids to long form vids to cosplay music videos, and more. Let’s talk about all the genres of fan videos floating around YouTube, Billibilli, AO3 and beyond, and also consider if the old school genre terms still apply.
Escapade has had many, many vidding panels. So many that even I feel the need for a readmore. I’ve pulled out the meta ones and left off some single-fandom vidshows and whatnot. Sorry for the wonky formatting, but Tumblr, in its infinite wisdom, seems to have removed the horizontal rule feature.
1991  - "Classic" songtapes were shown at 9:00 on Friday.
1994 - Song Video Roundtable (Bring works in progress or finished works you're having difficulty with for a quick jump-start. Open to anyone who enjoys videos as well as the people who make them.)
1994 - Songvid Editing (Authors get edited and usually have to do at least one rewrite of a story. Artists have erasers. What stops songvid makers from doing drafts and re-edits of their work? Let's talk about editing style (what cuts to use for best emphasis) and technique (how to physically do the inserts.)) [Notice how much of an issue editing is. These are VCR vids, edited in order, so insert edits are a gigantic pain.]
1995 - Techno Vids—Media Cannibals, (What's available with the new computer hardware and software? Can have Bodie & Doyle screwing on screen if we apply the right touches. Should we? How and when?) [Yes. Sweatily. Always.]
1995 - Video Workshop (video makers & watchers discuss the art.)
1996 - Music Video Critique and Workshop (Roundtable critique of videos, how to tell/recognize story, POV, rhythm. Also, tricks of the trade.)
1997 - Music Choice for Song Vidding (Finding the right song for the fandom is almost as great a challenge as finding the right clips for the song. Discussing what to look for in music choice.)
1997 - Songvid Critique (An exploration of different elements of media vids, with an emphasis on aesthetics. We'll look at segments of different songs to see how the images were used in conjunction with the varied rhythms of the music, and to enhance the mood.)
1998 - Media Cannibals Self-Indulgence Hour (Stunned to look back on vidding effort, MC plans to show -- and talk about -- some of their best and worst vids, pointing out some happy accidents and some annoying f*ckups. This is a great panel for people who want to learn about vid-making, the work that goes into them, and what to look for when watching them.)
1998 - Con Vids vs Living Room Vids (What are the elements that make a music vid accessible to a large crown, or more appropriate to an intimate setting?)
1998 - Music Video Show Review (Selected vids from Saturday's show will be replayed and discussed for their aesthetic, technical and musical choices. Open to all, for feedback and fun.) [Perhaps the start of the Sunday vidshow critique, which was also such a feature of Vividcon?]
1999 - Songvid Aesthetics (An exploration of theme, color, mood, and rhythm. Choosing clips to relate to the music and convey your message to the viewer.)
1999 - Sunday Morning Vid Review (Selected vids from Saturday's show will be replayed and discussed for the aesthetic, technical and musical choices. Open to all, for feedback and fun.)
2000 - Vidding Basics (Or "you want to learn how to make a music vid, huh?"—Carol and Stacy will take a group of novice vidders from the basics of what you need on your VCR, to all your hardware set ups, thru the selection of music, to actually doing some hands-on putting a dip (or two) into a music vid. So if you're interested in music videos and you want to try your hand at making one... you know what panel you need to go to.)
2000 - Songvid Appreciation 101 (Remember Art Appreciation? "Why is this painting good?" Well, we're doing the same for vids, using examples from the ESCAPADE Video Show. Let's take advantage of the fact that we've all just seen these vids, and use them to illustrate how to do cool things in a vid. We'll look at clever POV changes, appropriate choice of music to theme, skillful uses of musical changes within a vid, storytelling techniques, changes of mood, cutting on the beat vs. cutting on the lyric line, the different approaches to serious and humorous vids, or single fandom vs. multiple fandom vids, and more.)
2001 - Vidding Workshop (2 hours) (This workshop will cover: a comparison between digital and analog vidding; a how-to for analog vidding; a how-to for digital vidding; and a discussion of the artistic side of vidding, including song and clip choices, and techniques to avoid.)
2001 - Impact of Computer Tools on Vidding (Vidding used to be push-and-pause between 2 vers, and a LOT of patience. Now with I-movie and Final Cut and Macintosh G4's, the technological leap is here and it isn't going anywhere. Are vids better for the technology available to them?)
2001 - Songvid Appreciation (2 hours) (Comments and feedback on vids you saw last night, Escapade style.)
2002 - Art Manipulation Using Photoshop (A how-to overview, with demonstrations in Photoshop, and more detailed techniques for creating photo manipulations, web graphics, and zine graphics. Depending on interest, creation of vid titles and overlay vid graphics may be included.)
2002 - Digital Vidding (An overview of the digital vidding process, including some advice on the hardware and software you need to get started. Learn the basics of editing with Premiere and similar programs, and get an overview of some of the fun options you have when using a computer to vid.)
2002 - Vidding Workshop: Art After Craft (What is the Art of Vidding?)
2002 - Vid Revision (The art and craft of revising vids—how you get from a song in your heart and a bunch of clips on your hard drive to the final product. We'll show multiple versions of a few vids, critique them, and talk about what improves a vid. No technical knowledge needed; come whether you make vids or just like watching them.)
2002 - Vids: Pro vs Fan Editing (A long time fan vidder and a professional editor discuss techniques.)
2002 - Sunday Morning Vid Review
2002 - VividCon Discussion (Come discuss the proposed VividCon, tentative time/location, August/Chicago.) [VVC started 6 months later, in August 2002, and ran until 2018]
2003 - How to Vid on the Computer (A brief intra vidding on computers. It will touch on hardware requirements, software options, and basic concepts of non-linear editing and what makes for a good vid, and, time and tech permitting, it may also include a demonstration of some of the editing basics. There will be handouts.)
2003 - Vid Show Review (A discussion (and literal re-viewing in some cases) of some of the vids from the Saturday night show.)
2003 - Also Premiering Vid Show (The "Also Premiering..." vid show is for vids premiered in the last year that aren't going to be shown in the Friday or Saturday shows. This will be an informal setting and we'll go by participant preference — if folks want to see a vid a second time, or want some time to chat about it, or if a vidder wants some feedback on it, we can decide to do that on-the-fly. If you'd like to show any vids in this show, just bring them to the show itself. There are no hard-and-fast limits on number of vids; we'll just go with what shows up and take turns until we run out of time. Afterwards, consider going out to lunch with other participants to talk about the vids!)
2004 - I want to vid! (But I don't know how) (Introduction to vidding hardware, software and maybe some concepts if we have the time.)

2004 - Vidding: Creating Mood (Why do rapid cuts of short clips create tension? What does a wipe *feel* iike? A vidder's toolbox Includes more and more options, but how do we know what emotional effect each technical effect will produce? Leave the music at the door; this one's about the visuals.)
2004 - Editing Techniques and Vidding (How can you edit together clips from widely different episodes and movies into a seamless whole? A familiarity with concepts in filmmaking can help you achieve the results you're aiming for. A look at some of the common rules of continuity editing and how they relate to vids.)
2004 - The changing face of vids (How has increasingly cheap technology, wider highspeed access and the new flood of vidders changed vidding? What should we rejoice about and what should we worry about? How do we help make it a winning situation for all?)
2004 - Vid Review (A retrospective on the Saturday night show.)
2005 - Vidding: Let the Lyrics Help You (How to look at lyrics to add depth and structure to your vid. or why top 40 songs usually make you do all the work.)

What do audiences want from vids now? Vidders, share your historical perspectives. Vid fans, this is your chance to tell vidders what you want.)

Could you comment on kasta tomb? Is the excavation still ongoing? Has there been new discovery/hypothesis/debate? For a while it was all over the news then it fizzled out. Google searche only surfaces old articles. What's the academic consensus, if any, regarding whether it was a dedication to Hephaistion?
Okay, so, for the TL;DR crowd:
1)    The excavation is more-or-less on hold due to lackof funding (like a lot of excavations in Greece).
2)    No new discoveries for reason 1, plus the usualquagmire in Greek archaeology of access to a site and turf wars. But, thesethings also take time.
3)    It wasn’t a dedication to Hephaistion. I don’tknow an academic (outside the excavator’s team) who genuinely believes it was. Attachingit to H. (or any other major figure at ATG’s court) is part of the usualattempt to get media attention (and funding).
Let’s start with #3, which will in turn answer #s 1 and 2.
First rule of archaeology: gold and famous names raise money. It doesn’t matter how important one’s discoveries actually are for the field,it matters how well the lead archaeologists can market what they’re finding topeople/gov’t with funds. Sometimes really good (non-gold) artwork also can beused for attention.
Witness how the archaeologists at Bethsaida (Israel) havehandled the finding of an iron-age stele w the image of the moon god in a “highplace” in the gate. This is *really cool*, given the date (900s?). But do theytalk about its rarity, etc.? Oh, hell, no. The email I got from Rami pointing to anarticle about the find from Israel’s Jerusalem Post announces, “Archaeologists identify citygate from time of King David.”
Famous name! Especially in Israel.
Now, compare: “Large Looted Tomb from Hellenistic Period Foundin Northern Greece,” or “Archaeologists Report they may have Found the Tomb ofAlexander the Great’s Mother/Best Friend/General…etc.” Now, which of those isgoing to get anybody to read the article? :-D
That’s how you get media attention (and hopefully, money tokeep digging, as archaeology is EXPENSIVE). Yet if the claim turns out to bebogus/unsupported, the media attention goes away or can even turn against theexcavator. If/when the first goes down, sometimes the team tries to come upwith other exaggerated explanations to maintain that spotlight, but this canjust dig the grave deeper.
So, why couldn’t this tomb be Hephaistion’s?
First, there are other burials in it—five people to be exact. Were it a monument for Hephaistion, it would be a cenotaph, not a tomb (hisbody was burned in Babylon), and it would be solo, not have other people there.Macedonian Tombs come in two basic types: solo and family. We do have otherfamily tombs (most famously, the Tomb of Lyson and Kallikles, excavated byStella Miller-Collett), and this appears to be similar to that. So attachingthis tomb to Hephaistion faces the immediate problem of, “Uh…other people?”
(Couldn’t they be his surviving family? Well, maybe, but it’sstill really weird. Trying to argue such a thing would be better called “reaching.”*grin*)
The presence of an older woman in (if I recall right) her60s, led some to propose it was Olympias in there—except, again, other people, plus we know (from ancient testimony) that Olympias was buried in Pydna (whereshe was murdered on Kassandros’s orders). So it’s also not Olympias. BothOlympias and Hephaistion are important enough that they’d have merited a solo, not family, tomb. (And most all of Olympias’s family were killed and buriedelsewhere.)
Another name put forward is Nearkhos, one of Alexander’sgenerals, who had land in the Amphipolis area. At least he is a possible candidate, although the tomb might be too late for him (but he sure as hell would have hadthe money for it). Like our Macedonian soldiers, Lyson and Kallikles, Nearkhosmight have sought to establish a family tomb. Again, it’s a reasonablepossibility, just a question of whether the tomb is too late.
Back to Hephaistion (and why it’s not him)…
The argument that it is rests on the presence of some graffiti on stones. First, the graffiti does NOT name Hephaistion (that’s an interpretationby Peristeri and her team). Second, if this were a tomb memorializing such animportant person, why on earth would it be indicated by graffiti?
The graffiti says “arelabon” followed by the letters Eta andPhi (and maybe a sigma?). Peristeri has turned that into “parelabon” and “Hephaistion”:received by Hephaistion. Problem: “arelabon” appears twice, missing thenecessary “pi” in both cases. While missing letters in inscriptions is hardlyunusual, missing the same one in two different places is odd. I’m not going toplay with that further, just leave it for true epigraphers. (I’m aprosopographer, so I deal with epigraphy only occasionally and largely withnames.) What I really want to kick to the curb is the idea that the letters area monogram for “our” Hephaistion.
My current research work involves epigraphical occurrences ofHephaistion, as well as other Hephais-based names in both their Attic-Ionic andDoric forms. Trust me, there are a LOT of names that start with Eta-Phi, evenbeyond Hephais-based names. But even if this meant “Hephaistion” the nature ofthe graffiti itself suggests somebody working on the tomb: an architect, mason, or other craftsman—not the person for whom it was made. We find suchcrafters marks on pottery, bronze, etc. (We also find such etched names on dedicationsin temples, but I don’t think that applies here.)
I think if this was really referencing Hephaistion Amyntoroshis full name would have been given (not a monogram), and it would be a lotmore prominent within in the tomb.
Furthermore—and one of our eternal problems with IDingMacedonian tombs—is that, unlike many figured tombstones (stele), Macedoniantombs usually DON’T name the dead person buried there, even when we suspect theymay portray the dead persons image (like the Tomb of Judgement at Lefkadia). The Tomb of Lyson and Kallikles is unusual. Instead, we get names like the Tombof Judgement, or the Tomb of the Palmettes. The Tomb of Eurydike was calledthat by later archaeologists; there’s absolutely no indication that it belongedto Philip’s mother. It’s almost certainly a woman’s tomb, but that’s about allwe know.
And oh dear, wouldn’t the whole Royal Tomb II at Verginadebate be SO much simpler if there was actually a flippin’ name on the tomb?!There’s not.
Identifying who’s buried in a tomb is REALLY HARD. Itdepends on dating, objects, and probabilities.
So yeah, some craftman’s graffito on the Kasta Tomb means zilch, except that he got his wish and has been spoken of by posterity.
So…trying to turn this into a cenotaph or tomb ofHephaistion is a pile of …wishful thinking. 😉  It’d be cool if it was…but it’s going to takea LOT more evidence to make that claim (not to mention explaining the 5 peoplein there).
Another problem is trying to DATE this sucker.
Those who want to tie it to Alexander more directly are desperateto make it early Hellenistic, despite clues to the contrary ranging fromarchitecture to the gown style of the Karatids. I’m not an art historian, so Iwon’t dig into that. I’ll simply point to one thing I found extremely curiousbut have not seen anyone (yet) address: the use of blue in the mosaic.
Now first, no silliness please about the Greeks not “seeing”blue; that was going around the internets for a while. Yes, they saw blue! Butthe color palette common to painters like Apelles in the late Classical period weremore earth tones. (Again, not an expert. I’m just gonna point to the word ofOlga Palagia, et al. Go and read Olga.) We find these colors in the pebblemosaics at Aegae (Aigai) and Pella, as well as Dion, et al. Even in thebeautiful Persephone painting in Tomb I and Aegae/Vergina.
The first time I saw that BLUE in the Kasta Tomb mosaic, itreally struck me. Unfortunately, art historians tend to catalogue mosaicsby how they’re made, not the colors in them, so I haven’t been able to track thisdown further, except to say that I, personally, have not seen an early Hellenisticpebble mosaic in Macedonia that used blue pebbles. Maybe there’s one hiding ina museum basement somewhere, but these mosaics are pretty spectacular and tendto be shown off. Blue as a color in mosaics is later, showing Egyptian influence. It’s also seen more in tessera mosaics than pebble, which were going out ofstyle by the Roman era. (I think the last datable pebble mosaic is from Delos,1st century BCE—again, Olga.)
So given the use of blue in that mosaic, I’d prefer to see adate that’s mid-Hellenstic at the earliest.
Ergo, we’re probably looking at the family tomb of animportant Hetairos during the Antigonid Dynasty. That’s my best guess.
Incidentally, pointing to the 4th century AmphipolisLion and saying, “Well, it was on top, so the tomb must be 4thcentury!” is horrible methodology. Something stuck on the top of thetomb (which may or may not have been there originally) does not date the tomb. Evenif the lion had been inside, that doesn’t help. Let me explain with an example:
Just because you want to be buried with your great-aunt Bertha’sWWII WAVE wings does not mean that *you* fought in WWII. 😉 It means you were buried with an antique. Sothe presence of the lion means only that the tomb probably can’t date BEFOREthe 4th century lion. That doesn’t mean it can’t date afterit. In fancy archaeologist-speak, the Amphipolis Lion provides only a “terminuspost quem” (earliest date for X), not a “terminus ante quem” (latest date for X).

          —   jaune begins the story as an outgoing, goofy, and friendly person. he treats people equally, and has no trouble expressing himself to strangers. he bonds with them easily, showing a lot of confidence. when faced with new situations, his false confidence leads to bold behaviour, which can backfire on him from time to time. when jaune tries to hard, it can lead to misunderstandings.           —   a strong sense of integrity makes him willing to put himself in awkward situations, to uphold his family moto of not going back on one’s word. during conversations, jaune never contradicts himself, and while sometimes harsh is always honest with his answers.           —   jaune has shown to care for his friends and the people around him, being protective of them and having a sense of responsibility as a team leader. he focuses only on his teammate’s well - being physically, mentally, and emotionally, disregarding his own issues to ensure theirs. he steps forward when others threaten his friends, and he has proven himself unwilling to do something that may hurt those he cares about.           —   at first, jaune’s family lineage leads to an obsession with becoming a hero. however, his lack of formal training led to a lack of self - esteem and assigned a lot of importance on his image as a fighter. he valued his image so much that he was willing to act dishonestly to achieve it. the obsession makes him brash and headstrong in battle, jumping in without considering the risks and behaving predictably offensively.           —   however, following the fall of beacon, his personality is somewhat changed. after witnessing the attack on shion, he is somewhat cynical. he becomes angry with qrow for his involvement in pyrrha’s death, openly accusing him of using ruby as bait. this is a completely different reaction from a year earlier when he tried to justify cardin’s bullying. jaune appears to prefer to keep his grief to himself, as he has continued to train on his own as a way to cope with the death of pyrrha, listening to her recordings on his scroll. this indicates a deep - seated sense of regret and guilt at not being able to save her from cinder.           —   jaune’s good nature renders him almost incapable of comprehending the actions and personalities of people like cinder, unable to fathom how someone can be so cold and cruel. this expression of belief at the sheer sadism of others serves to show how idealistic and noble jaune remains despite his trials and losses, ultimately proving him to be a fundamentally humane and caring individual.           —   while jaune is a good person, he is not above losing his cool, as seen when he punches a hole in the wall of his sister’s house, and when he takes his anger out on oscar over ozpin keeping so many secrets, including how pyrrha died for nothing. it is only when he finds pyrrha’s memorial statue in argus that he finally came to terms with her death, understanding that she had to try to make a difference, becoming inspired, and following in her example.
jaune deor arc was born into a middle class family with an ancient lineage spanning from before the time of the great war, protectors and cavalry of the last king of vale. despite their family coming from generation of warrior after warrior, the arc children were actually discouraged from becoming huntresses and huntsmen for a reason their father and mother would not disclose   (   but it does have something to do with their large pools of aura, a fact that none of them have caught onto yet as most have avoided combat - oriented lives.   )   despite this, jaune dreamed of becoming a great hero, although continued living an ordinary life after failing out of combat school.
his family were farmers, a pack of mixed human and canine faunus, wherein jaune was the youngest of his seven sisters. he had a large family, all of them very protective of one another, but despite the love he was surrounded with jaune faced difficulties young for his faunus heritage, his own pride and unwillingness to appear weak in front of loved ones meant he would not disclose how he was tormented in school. this lead to the beginnings of hidden anger issues which would get him into fights in middle school. by the time he was in high school jaune had learned to adapt himself to his surroundings, making himself appear docile and friendly so as to gain approval.
he was fairly liked in high school, but despite having relatively successful grades and offers of scholarships from i.t. universities, he still dreamed of becoming a hero despite his father’s efforts to dissuade him. in the end, he faked his transcripts and managed to hack his way into beacon academy. there, his charming and amiable nature, on top of his desperation to be liked didn’t fly as well as it did in high school, and jaune was forced to face challenges that would test the merit of his honesty. while his fraudulent ways throughout high school earned him companions, it was only once he dropped his facades that he started to make genuine friends.

Interview with Hippo Campus @ Black Cat
Tumblr media
NOVEMBER 15, 2015
On  November 11th the members of Hippo Campus scooted into a back room of the Black Cat for an interview before their show. They are a new indie-rock band out of St. Paul Minnesota, in the midst of their South EP Tour. With black X’s on their hands, the band is composed of Jake Luppen, lead vocalist and guitarist, Nathan Stocker on lead guitar, Zach Sutton on bass, and Whistler Allen on drums. The band members attended a Performing Arts High School in the twin cities, where they found their love of music and founded their up and coming band. Since then, they’ve released two EPs: The first -“Bashful Creatures”- came out in February of this year, and the second, called “South”, followed in October. After the sound check, a few brief introductions and a side conversation about scooters and glasses frames the conversation got going.
Michael: Was there a point where you guys knew that you were done with the album or was it just like “we’re going to work on this forever if we don’t put it out”?
Jake: Um… we had three days to record this last one
Whistler: (whispers) 4
Jake: Right, we had four days to do it so we didn’t really have the luxury of spending any time on it besides those four days. So really it wasn’t stressful, I mean it was stressful in those four days and then after that we didn’t fret too much about it… and we’ve had it since like March or February?
Whistler: We’ve had it since January and it was supposed to be released before South… but then it didn’t…. too bad…
Pasha: Just getting started, you guys are like our age so what did you do? What did you do differently that got you here because there are so many people who are trying to figure this out and you’re playing these sold out shows and that is something that so many people only dream of doing. We saw you open for Realestate, which is crazy for a band so new to do so, what did you do?
Jake: We uhhh.. We pray to Satan. Every evening.
Zach: We fit as many seances as we can into a day
Jake: “Satanances”
Whistler: Some people say you can’t pray to Satan at Church, but we do.
Nathan: I couldn’t tell ya…
Zach: We went to a Performing Arts High School, so that’s probably the first thing that’s different
Jake: We’re good friends, which is a good thing as well. We just love hanging out with each other all the time and the other part of the time we’re just not hanging out with anybody.
Whistler: I think a big thing was that we didn’t plan on this being what it is, from my knowledge. We started at the ending of high school and then our first show was about a month after we gradated high school and it was just kinda like “let’s have a big hurrah before everything kinda falls apart after high school” and I think, and i’m not trying to toot our own horn, but having that kind of mentality about it allowed us to not worry and just write whatever we want to write and allowed us to not have any pressure of “we have write something good otherwise we’re not going to be a successful band, Lets just write whatever we feel is best”
Michael: So could you guys tell us a little bit about your name? Was it always the same? How did you come up with it?
Zach: Originally for about a day or two or maybe an hour. The first incarnation was “Tarzan Reject.” It was super sick. (Laughter) and then Hippo Campus. Both have very shallow backstories. There’s really no reason to them. We were walking around one day and someone called Nathan a “tarzan reject” and we said that’s a good band name. And then he was reading a psychology book.
Nathan: So I was in psychology class one day and I was reading about the brain and was like “yo, that’s a cool word” and split it up into two words and that’s a band name.
Pasha: If could play alongside any other band, who would you pick? Dead or Alive?
Jake: If the Beatles opened for us
Pasha: Opened for you!
Nathan: Rupert Holmes… ahh… we could co-headline a tour
Whistler: If we convinced Michael Bolton and Celine Dion to do shows together and then they open for us, that’d be pretty fun
Jake: Guns and Roses
Zach: Yeah, they could be first of three
Whistler: Them, Michael Bolton and Celine Dion, and then us
Jake: Bill Clinton, play some sax (makes saxophone sounds)
Sophia: So you guys have put out some really cool music videos lately. What was your inspiration for them? I know your Violet video doesn’t feature violet once, is there a backstory on that?
Whistler: Color-wise you mean?
Sophia: Yeah
Whistler: Oh, I don’t even think that was our choice. We just showed up and they said “these are the colors we’ve got.” For “Little Grace” and “Souls,” those, well.. “Little Grace” was like our first music video and one of Zach’s friends at his school was doing this project where he did one free music video a day throughout the entire month, and so we went and shot a music video with him. It wasn’t any real super intense thought process.
Jake: Well I mean there was some thought as to the fact that we wanted to create a series of images, I guess. And we wanted to continue to write and do all that stuff and we didn’t want to create a basic music video.
Whistler: And then we made another video for “Souls” and that was definitely more thought out a little more tied to the meaning of the song than “Little Grace” was and the other music videos we’ve made. “Suicide Saturday” was the next one we did and that was not really uh… That one was more of a creative process on the outside for us. It wasn’t as much of our creative minds on it as much as it was the director who shot it.
Zach: We actually had a full treatment that we came up with for it, and then we showed it to our people and they were like “no, let’s not do that.” And then we went to the UK and they had a guy who worked with us to figure out how we could through balloons full of paint at each other. It turned out pretty fun. A long day, and a decent video. And “Violet” was after that.
Whistler: Violet was like the same situation kind of where we didn’t really… I don’t know, we were kind of in a strange mood about doing music videos after doing “Suicide” because it was a situation where we were asked to come up with an idea and then we did and then it wasn’t allowed because “it’s going to take to long to shoot, it’s a music video.” Anyway, we did the “Violet” one and it was definitely a huge step up in terms of production and quality and everything, which was nice. That was probably the nicest thing about it. You can tell there’s a difference.
Sophia: There’s definitely a professionalism.
Whistler: Yeah. The only thing about that video that kinda rubs us the wrong was is the fact that we’re playing our instruments in it, which we were for a while, at least up until that video and still adamant about, but it’s just something that we’re not comfortable with doing and it wasn’t something that we wanted to do, but again… That’s what coming to a live show is for, coming to see us play our instruments then. If you’re just going to watch a video of us playing our instruments then … I don’t know, to us it just feels very cliche and so many music videos have that and we always wanted to stray from that. So it was a weird balance of a cool production, and we aren’t doing what we’d like in the video. Then finally with “South” we were able to get it the way we liked it. Someone that we like a lot came out with a great treatment and really nailed the little idea that we had, the feeling that we had and the vibe. They made it look like a high production than it was, with a drone camera and everything. It was geared less towards the meaning of the song and more of creating a series of images that fit the vibe of the song instead of dealing with the words and the meaning.
Jake: I feel like the best music videos are art pieces within themselves that accompany the song as opposed to being directly informed by the song’s meaning. Videos are a way of collaboration, so you should let the person who you’re collaborating with have a meaning as well as the audience will have their own version of what the song means. I think it works out best when both people are really creatively doing their own thing and trying to make it look as beautiful as possible. I feel like “South” and the first two videos we accomplished best. The others I feel like we accomplished decently, there’s meaning in Violet. “Suicide” I mean sometimes you win sometimes you don’t. We’re learning. We’re a young band, we have a lot to figure out.
Sophia: Where do you see yourselves going as band? It seems like this has all happened very quickly for you, what have been some of the successes and challenge of that?
Jake: I think everything in an of itself is a challenge. I mean the fact that we’re touring and playing these sold out shows is a success, but a challenge is that it negatively impacts your health and your mental state. I mean you’re literally killing yourself some times, but you know, all for the love of what you’re doing. But that goes for just about everything. I mean it’s cool that you get to make videos, but it sucks sometimes that you don’t get to make the videos you want to make. Everything has its ups and its downs, but we’re really fortunate to be doing what we’re doing and as far as the distant future goes, we just try and take it one step at a time, day by day.
Sophia: I saw your video from KEXP with Kevin Cole. I’m an avid fan of the station as it’s from my hometown. What was your experience like with that? How do you think that influenced your audience? It reaches a lot of people, so how do you think that’s affected things?
Zach: Well, that’s a legendary radio station. We were super stoked to do it. Once you get in the room its a lot smaller than it looks.
Whitney: It’s probably the size of this little room.
Zach: A lot the bands we love have done sessions in there so it was pretty humbling to be in the same room. So it was pretty sick. It went well, I think for what we were expecting, they’re getting a new room so
Sophia: Ya! There will be a glass wall so if you guys play there again people can come and see you play. It’ll be way more open to the public.
Jake: That’s awesome.
Michael: In the same vain, we were at the pier show. How was that?
Jake: Yeah, actually pretty crazy story in terms of that. I mean the show was awesome, but this part was really incredible. Do you guys watch the YouTube channel “Good Neighbors” at all? You know Kyle? Well, we’re all monster good neighbor fans. I mean our sense of humor is almost directly informed by those kinds of videos. So hanging out backstage after the show and everything was done and we look over and see Kyle. We’re all freaking out and so Zach and I go over and talk and say like “hey man can we get a picture?” We talk to him and stuff and he was completely different than his character, which completely shocked us. We were just expecting him to flip into Kyle mode, but I guess not. That was my favorite part. The show was great and the view was beautiful, but meeting Kyle was something else.
Pasha: What’s the worst thing that has happened on tour?
Jake: Oh! One time we were in a parking garage and a disclosed person of the band, tore the side of the van off. That was pretty bad.
Whistler: It was the foot step on the side.
Jake: It was a total mistake. It could have happened to any of us.
Zach: That person has apologized and feels no regret.
Whistler: Maybe that one time we got stuck in the McDonalds’s drive through with the van. That was the worst idea.
Zach: I think we’ve had it relatively easy.
Pasha: So imagine you meet your soul mate. The person is perfect for you in every single way and there’s an issue. A person comes up to you and says either someone is going to come  to them every year, totally randomly and break their collarbones with a wrench. You can stop this by taking a pill that will make any music you listen to sound like it’s being played by Alice in Chains.
Jake: Well I like that one Alice in Chains song…
Pasha: So do you like take the pill or let everything sound like Alice and Chain?
Whistler: I’d let their collarbones be broken. and I’d probably not see them.
Nathan: That’s really hard, I don’t want that to happen to the person that I love the most in this worth. THAT’S AWFUL! oh man….
Whistler: I couldn’t give up music for that.
Jake: (plays a song by Alice in Chains on his phone and sings along)
Jake: I’d do it anyways man. Alice in Chains all the way.
Nathan: That’s selfish…
Jake: Headline – ‘Hippo Campus is selfish’
Sophia: Who are you’re favorite all time artists, actors, performers?
Whistler: Brad Pitt is my favorite singer. Johnny Depp is my favorite dancer. What about you guys?
Nathan: Favorite singer? Gregory Alan Isakov. He’s just…
Jake: Alanis Morissette is my favorite singer. I like her album “Havoc and Bright Lights.” My favorite actor is Ricky Gervais… What else?
Sophia: Who are you inspired by? That’s really the root of the question.
Jake: I’m inspired by my three best friends. This guy, this guy and this special guy.
Zach: well… I was going to say that too…. Yeah, I’m inspired by the friends. Not really you guys because you’re all so disappointing
Whistler: What other friends are you taking about then?
Zach: Gabe, Rick, Taylor, Johny Depp is great. Angelina Jolie. I don’t know….
Sophia: Are you guys planning on or looking into doing any shows this summer shows or festivals?
Nathan: Hopefully. We’re hoping to. Our team of awesome people are helping us out with those things.

Concert in Nuremberg: Conchita Wurst in conversation
Singer Tom Neuwirth on his art figure, learning processes and world pictures -
NUREMBERG - On November 23, Tom Neuwirth alias Conchita Wurst gives a concert with the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra in the Meistersingerhalle; the musical director is big band leader and pianist Thilo Wolf from Fürth. In advance, we talked to the singer.
Conchita, you are a multiple personality, so I have to ask you at the beginning how you want to be addressed.
Privately all my friends say Tom about me, professionally and in public I do not care, I listen to Conchita, to Tom, to Wurst. I like to be the center of attention, when one of the names falls, I turn around immediately.
Since you have made a drastic change of image with your new album, we could surmise that the concert in Nuremberg is a kind of farewell tour for Conchita?
It felt like that some time ago, but I found my love for Conchita Wurst in a ProSieben production ("Queen of Drags") and I can imagine going on with concerts of this kind.
How did the contact with Thilo Wolf and the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra come about?
Two years ago I delivered a midnight show at the Opera Ball in Hanover, Thilo was involved with his band at the time and I think it was nice to see what I do. We made music together there and decided that we could do more with it.
In addition to the well-known big female voices, you can also present cover songs of men like David Bowie, Prince or Sam Smith live.
This will actually be the program of the evening. I like to move in different fields and love the challenge. I find a song by Sam Smith easier to vocally sing, but I also dare to sing Celine Dion and Shirley Bassey.
What were your prejudices when working with a "classical" orchestra?
The skepticism of classical musicians towards pop musicians is known and justified for me. Classical music is the cradle of music, I respect that very much - especially as an Austrian - and say that these musicians are almost supermen for me.
On the CD "From Vienna With Love" you reveal a close proximity to the theme tunes of the James Bond films. How do you relate to the masculinity cult of the main character?
This is a very dusty concept and it is time to have a female James Bond. I love the music, but I find the movies a bit boring.
The change to the art figure "Wurst" is described in the booklet of your new CD as a desire to find yourself. Is the time of epic ballads and disguises as a diva over?
Conchita was the truth about six years ago, I thought that was nice. But then I thought I would have to do something completely new to express what I felt and feel now. But it's just a new phase, a process, not an irreversible reset.
There are also two very personal songs: "Trash All The Glam" and "Truth Over Magnitude". How would you translate these first messages?
On the one hand it says that one leaves the superficiality, the show and the glamor behind and is more oneself; on the other hand it means that the truth is more important than the size. By that I mean the chasms of the entertainment business, but also my own ego. I have made mistakes in the past and can say "sorry"; that gives me a great new freedom.
Which concept is behind the pictorial design of the new CD?
We - the photographer Niklas von Schwarzdorn and I - realized in the photo shoot for the new CD that I have to be naked, because that's what it's all about: the end of illusions. It was an incredibly hot, sweaty summer's day, when I had to walk through the scenery as God created me.
How do you stand it in a world in which differentness is increasingly threatened?
For one thing, I am incredibly ignorant, yet I discover a trend toward greater understanding, a generation that is inclusive, sensitive and alert. On the other hand, however, I also see - especially in Austria - contrary developments. The solution for me is positive thinking, friendliness, humor; I concentrate on that.
Do you feel more as an Austrian, a European or a citizen of the world?
I love living in Vienna to taste this whipped cream in the middle of Europe; I also love traveling and learning from other people.
How is your relationship to the German language as a singer?
English is a bit easier to sing, but I realize that I have recently developed a great love for my dialect. It goes so far that during interviews many people do not understand me.
In Nuremberg you have to fill the wood-paneled Meistersingerhalle with your presence, where will the music of the new album really be?
I think a cool rock club location would suit, but I am also not averse to an orchestral version of my new music. The anticipation of a large concert hall leads to the fact that I get up in the morning more concentrated and with better posture.
Tom Neuwirth (31), Austrian travesty artist, catapulted himself into the spotlight at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in the role of Conchita Wurst and has since established himself as the anti-discrimination commissioner of pop. With wig and beard he plays in the war of the sexes just as sophisticated a confusion as in the music. The singer performs with pop bands, sometimes with orchestra.

“don’t get your hopes up too high”: An Exhaustively Curated 2018 Playlist
So, since time immemorial I have been putting together year-end playlists and for a long time they were pretty sloppy affairs overall.  Last year, I decided to make up some kind of formula for putting these playlists together.  Basically what it comes down to is, from every new album I listen to, released in the given year, I pick one song.  No repeating artists because that gets to be too much (although featured acts aren’t subject to this rule).  When deciding what releases are going to get my attention, aside from my own personal tastes (skews toward alt. rock and punk a lot of the time) and releases from longtime favorites (this year we saw releases from Metric, and Animal Collective, as well as a long-awaited A Perfect Circle album, and even a Spotify single from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs), I try to get give more of my time to queer artists (and this year there were TONS of queer acts releasing great music--Adult Mom, Laura Jane Grace & the Devouring Mothers, Janelle Monae, Snail Mail, SOPHIE, etc. etc. etc. hallelujah).  I also try to make an effort broaden my musical worldview by making time for artists that operate within genres I don’t always naturally gravitate towards.  This was a great year to get back into hip-hop (Rico Nasty, Cardi B, Tierra Whack, Black Panther OST) after not really vibing with some of the directions it has taken in the past ten or so years.  I have also tried to include a track by every band I saw in 2018, providing they actually released something in 2018 and it is available on Spotify (strong apologies to Partner, Bully, Shellshagg, Kimya Dawson, Rozwell Kid, Los Campesinos, the incomparable Liz Phair, and the legendary Fleetwood Mac--y’all didn’t release anything this year).  I give myself until the end of January of the following year to finalize my expansive, year-end playlist, and here we are.  This years playlist is over 15 hours long--almost long enough to put on while you’re doing all that laundry you've been putting off.  I hope you enjoy.
