Hi I love your blog! They way you color coat the excerpts makes my eyes so happy! Every time I see something in orange I get so hopeful for Lucian and his future in the series because of you.
I wanted to ask what your theories are on what father Archeron bargained with Koschei for to gain Vassa’s temporary freedom. I know father Archeron was a skilled merchant but Koschei is so old and evil he had to have gained the upper hand with the terms. And then father Archeron died but Vassa has stayed in the human lands for what a year or two? I just found it strange she didn’t have to go back when he died and no one knows when she actually will. How can someone fulfill a bargain when they’re dead and why would Koschei leave Vassa alone? Maybe father Archeron left some hints to Lucian and Elain will help Lucian figure it out to save Vassa. Anywhoozles I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Thank you so much and I'm glad you appreciate the color coding because I know many really hate it 😂 I like it because my posts can be wordy and I like that certain key phrases pop out with the colors. I think you made a great point, what could Papa Archeron really have offered a being that was so old? We've got so little to go on that it's a lot of speculation at this point but there's a few things that would and wouldn't make sense to me. I don't think it's anything that Papa Archeron promised to Koschei in the future because why would a death god agree to a bargain with a human about to head off into battle? Something he knows he might not even receive? And the bargain would have to solely exist between Papa Archeron and Koschei, I'm not sure that he could promise to eventually deliver someone to Koschei or use them for a future purpose, there's not way to guarantee he could achieve something like that. And like you said, with his death he now cannot fulfil the bond so it would be sort of anti-climactic. I don't think Koschei has called Vassa in yet since it appears there was a specified period of time Vassa was granted temporary freedom. In the novella we're told that Vassa's freedom is soon going to run out and in SF Koschei says, "tell my Vassa I'm waiting". Cassian also says that he should have asked someone how much time Vassa had before she was forced to return. I'm guessing it was something along the lines of 2 years. Lucien seems to be aware of whatever bargain Elain's father made with Koschei since he says something along the lines of "your father, ever the negotiator" in ACOWAR. So again, I don't think it's really going to be anything that has a major impact to the plot otherwise, why wouldn't he have mentioned it to anyone? Maybe Papa Archeron simply had information that Koschei was after, maybe it really was something that the "Prince of Merchants" was able to give him (something he obtained from his travels) that Koschei hasn't had access to while confined to the lake. The Bone Carver wanted a mirror and Bryaxis wanted someone to talk to, so really these big bad Death Gods and monsters have strange wish lists, maybe Koschei's was along the same lines.

20 Questions
tagged by both @toopunkrockforshul and @writingordinaryrealities so I guess I'd better do it LOL
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
18!
2. What’s your total AO3 words count?
202,063
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently only Greenwing & Dart by Victoria Goddard. In the past I wrote a teeny bit of Legend of Korra fic, and then one Check, Please! fic and one Pokemon fic.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
falling and falling and falling, A Beifong Woman's Guide to Getting the Girl, tender is the night, to face unafraid the plans that we made, and protective measures
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to, and I usually do immediately after I post a fic. (I always end up running behind, though.) I do so because I am genuinely SO grateful to everyone who reads and comments on my stories. Every comment is a gift.
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
To call it angst is perhaps overselling the yearning happening there, but probably protective measures.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I had to go back and look at fics I've barely even thought about in years, but probably tender is the night, tbh.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Nope! I am not a popular writer. (thank god)
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
I have begun to dabble, though I don't know how to quantify it? it's smut. LOL
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I still have that unfinished Carol-inspired Check, Please! au. I'm probably never going to go back to it, but I maintain that the vibes were immaculate.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Don't think so!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not yet, but how cool would that be?
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
No, and tbh the idea of doing so is intimidating as hell, but I'm sure it would be fun.
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
What do you mean "favorite"? I'm supposed to pick? I can't even pick a current favorite, considering I'm writing a whole polycule of various ships for G&D and I love them all.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I've accepted that my older unfinished works are going to stay that way, but sometimes I do think about The Journey. The end of that fic was going to involve Jinora and Opal leaving the Eastern Air Temple, to be followed by a sequel where they travelled to Zaofu, then the Southern Water Tribe, and then through the Fire Nation. The third story in the series would have brought them to Republic City, where they would establish Air Temple Island. The story as I began it just had too many plot holes, though, and I ended up losing interest in the primary romantic relationship.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I do a decent job with pacing. It turns out that I'm good at planning out a cohesive narrative that will play out over the course of a series; working out the snags is part of the fun. I like when unnoticed details are given greater/changed meaning or depth later on. (I learned that from @ourimpavidheroine!) Oh and my friends say I write pining well, LOL.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Figuring out plots driven by anything but the characters' emotional beats. (This is why I've written thousands of words of fanfic this year, and simply cannot get an original novel out of the planning stages.) I so wish I could write a complicated political plot, or a mystery, but I think those things are beyond me. Weaving in description alongside dialogue is also tricky for me, I always feel like I fall into using the same phrases over and over.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I don't speak any other languages well enough to do it, but it would be very neat.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Pokemon, *way* back in the day.
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
*gasp* How dare you make me pick just one. I guess it has to be hello, my old heart, though. I just am so proud of that fic. It's not just that it's the kind of thing that I've dreamed of writing for a long while (slowburn, lots of yearning, LONG) but that I managed to do it during a summer where I was struggling with just about everything else in my life. I'm very fond of the world it's set in, and I have so many plans for both prequels and sequels to it.
I'm tagging @ourimpavidheroine, @assistant-blogkeeper, and anyone else who thinks this would be fun! (no pressure to play along, though <3)

Demon-Possessed Kid Tries to Steal God’s Glory, But Then...
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:14–16).
In Matthew, we were instructed to put the lamp on a lampstand.
We aren’t to worship or crave the lampstand. No, we are to crave the light. We need the light. We can get so caught up in the lampstand, which is simply the thing that showcases the light, that we start worshiping the lampstand. The problem with making the lampstand the big thing is that it brings no light to the house. Your talent and your platform are just the stand that the light goes on. What people need is not one more performance, one more song, one more sermon, or one more book. What they need is for the light to be placed back on the stand to bring light to the entire house.
I learned this firsthand. My lampstand was the gift of creativity. I had done everything and then some. I tried every creative idea that my young mind could think of, yet all had failed. What I saw with my heart, and what I saw with my eyes were two different things. The journey of a pioneer, while it sounds romantic, is daunting. It’s full of upsets and frustrations as you trek on the road less traveled, or maybe even the one never traveled. If you can relate, hang in there. Keep moving forward. You’re not alone. I have hit many walls along this journey, and I’m sure I will hit many more. I have now found that it’s who you listen to at the wall that determines if you settle there or press on.
I hit a wall. It wasn’t the first time in ministry, but this time was different. I’ll never forget walking out to speak that night. I was ready to close worship, and as I looked at the crowd, I was disheartened. The room was filled with empty seats. and although a few leaders at the front of the stage were giving all their praise to God, the rest of the crowd looked uninterested, bored, or focused on something outside the room. I walked right back off the stage and went into my office. I burst into tears, full of anger and frustration. I had done everything I could imagine, yet I couldn’t grow this ministry. I longed to set it on fire like I’d seen in my dreams. Maybe I just wasn’t the guy. Maybe God got mixed up. I fell to my knees in my office and heard the drums beating through my wall. It felt as though I was beating on God’s chest. It took a minute, and then I heard God say as clear as day, “Are you done yet?” I cried out, “God, I am so done! I have nothing left. I can’t do this.” Then God said, “Good, this was the place I wanted you. Are you sure you’re done with all your big ideas, all your catchy phrases, all your clever sermons, all the ways it will work for you?” I screamed out, “God, I’m so done!” “Good,” He said. “Now I can begin. The first thing I want you to do is rip up your sermon. It’s not yours anyways.” He was right. I had gotten it online from one of my favorite preachers. I ripped up my sermon, and then God said, “When you go out to the mic, I’ll tell you what to say.” Well, this should be interesting, I thought.

I walked back onto the stage with nothing in my mind to say. Sure enough when I grabbed the mic, words began to come out. The first thing God had me do was ask everyone who was sick in the room to come to the stage. After I said it, I thought, No big deal. This is youth ministry. There won’t be a bunch of sick kids. Boy, was I wrong. The whole stage was packed with kids I’d never seen before—one guy in a wheelchair, three with crutches, others just holding up a part that was in pain. I thought, Oh great. I didn’t know God was going to put me on the spot like this. However, the tables were turned, and He was challenging my faith to put Him on the spot. With my shallow faith, I turned to the first person. Good thing all it takes is a mustard seed to move mountains. With that, I began to pray. Never before and never since have I experienced something so supernatural. One by one, the teenagers began to get healed. As I prayed, the first guy just began yelling that his leg was hot. Instantly, I realized it was working. Sure enough, the miracle power of God was in the room. Every student on that stage was healed that night except for one, who I still pray for to this day.
Over 30 visible miracles took place that night. The whole room was on the edge of their seats. This was no longer business as usual. The Lord was doing miracles in our midst. The Bible came alive that night, and this one-dimensional Jesus became 3D. At the end of the night, I finished with a salvation call. There was no one in the room who didn’t want Jesus. That night we had church like the first church, full of life and celebration because the students had met a real Jesus.
As I walked off the stage, I heard God speak to me again. “Did you like that?” “Did I like that? That was incredible. I feel alive again.” “Good. I’m now in charge of your youth ministry. This week, instead of working, I want you to pray. You’re a workaholic so that should be a lot.” I thought, Are you kidding me, God? The bad news was He heard my thoughts and responded with “No, I’m not kidding. For 8 hours a day, some days 10, I want you to come into your office, shut the door, and cry out to Me.” I said, “God, how will I do that? They pay me to be the youth pastor here. What if someone finds out?” “You mean you’ll get in trouble spending time with Me?” “That’s not what I mean, God. What if someone wants a meeting with me? What if there’s a student leader or parent that needs counseling?” Then God said, “If anyone needs a meeting, ask them before the meeting, ‘Will you pray with me for an hour? If God answers your prayer during that time, then let’s cancel the meeting.’” Funny thing was that this did happen. However, every time, within thirty minutes the person would walk out of the room. Either they got their need met or they were tired of praying. Either way, it was much better. I don’t really like meetings anyway.
So, the next morning I walked into my office, turned on some music, and did exactly as God said. I’m not sure I had ever prayed that long in my life. About two hours in, I ran out of songs and requests, but that’s when the Holy Spirit began to minister to me in ways I cannot describe. It was almost as if He was doing delicate surgery on my heart. He began to heal every hurt, every fear, and every offense. I found myself repenting, forgiving, and being forgiven. One hour I was bawling my eyes out, the next I was rejoicing. Sometimes I just sat in silence. For the first time in my life, I was okay with silence. Typically, in the silence my mind would wander to all the things I had to do, but in these moments, God was giving me a new rest. The next day I did the same thing. No one asked about it, so I didn’t tell anyone. The day after, I did the same thing. By the time Wednesday of the next week rolled around, I didn’t have a sermon. That was okay with me, though, because the week before I didn’t seem to need one. I couldn’t wait for service to start. There was a new excitement in the air. The room was a little fuller than the week before. People were actually inviting their friends! It became a place where we expected God to show up and do miracles. It’s funny how that works. It’s so much better than flyers and social media campaigns.
I didn’t study to give a message that night, but as I opened my Bible, the words came alive. When it was time to close the message. everyone had their heads bowed and eyes closed. Abruptly, a young man got up from the middle of the crowd and started making his way toward the front of the stage. I thought, This is interesting. People are answering the altar call before I give it. He was not answering any kind of call from my message or the Jesus I preached. As the young man got closer, he looked up at me, and no joke, out of his face jumped the most demonic face I’d ever seen. It was like something out of a scary dream or a horror movie. Then the young man turned from me with an evil smirk and went back into the crowd. On his way out, he walked halfway down the aisle and grabbed a young lady out of her seat. He then violently attempted to drag her out of the room. You could tell by her face that she had no clue who this guy was or why he was pulling her out of the room. As she screamed hysterically, everyone in the room was frozen. No one tried to stop him. I closed my eyes and began to pray in the Spirit, and within seconds the young man let go of the girl and was at my feet. I was not sure how he got there so fast, but I didn’t care. He begged me to “stop praying like that.” You better believe I kept praying like that! In fact, I started praying louder, and this time, into the mic. The young man began to scream, and I put my hand on his forehead. What happened next was something out of a science-fiction movie. He was on his knees and dramatically flipped and slammed onto his back. I’m not kidding. He began to squirm around on the floor like a snake.
The whole room was silent as this battle between the preacher and demon-possessed student took place. No one moved. All eyes were focused on the young man and what I would do next. Then I heard a voice as clear as day say, “The enemy is trying to rob Me of My glory. He’s pulling the attention off of what I was about to do, to his agenda, fear. Don’t cast out this demon here. Send the boy to the back room.” I was relieved. I grabbed the first leader I could find. You should’ve seen his eyes when I told him, “Alright, you’re up. Take him to the back room and cast this devil out of him.” As soon as the young man was dragged out by a few leaders, the room remained in a stunned hush. I then shared with the students what God had just told me and that He wanted to bring breakthrough to their lives. I reminded them that the battle between light and darkness is real and that the enemy did not want them to be free. I continued by telling them that the power of God is greater than any enemy that would walk into the room. That night, everyone got saved all over again. We ended on a high, and by the time we were done, the kid who had been squirming all over the floor was sitting upright in my office, not knowing what had happened. We led him in some further prayer for deliverance from alcohol and drugs, and then we led him in the sinner’s prayer. That night his life changed forever. Then I heard God say, “Did you like that?” I said, “No I didn’t, but I did like that You were with me.” Then God said, “I want you to pray another week.”
The next day, I came in and began to pray; about two hours in, I noticed it was darker outside my office than usual. I looked out of my window through my blinds, and I saw the lights in my secretary’s office were off as well, and I heard music coming from her cubicle. I peeked out of my door to find that my secretary was praying as well. I guess I couldn’t get mad at her for not working, so I left her alone. About midday, two more leaders had gathered with her, and by the end of the day, there were 10 people in the room crying out to God. The next day it happened again. Leaders just began to show up on their lunch breaks and after school. The offices that were once dead and boring, used for discussing budgets, problematic youth, and spreadsheets, were now being used to fill the halls of heaven with praise. When I first started this journey, I had no clue that this would go beyond me, but on the Wednesday night right before service, the group had built up to 100 students and leaders crying out to God in our offices.
Something shifted that week, and it impacted me and our youth ministry forever. There was a new life, a new joy, a new fire that none of us had ever felt before. Our youth ministry began to explode, without flyers or another cool event. Students just began to invite their friends. Within a week’s time, we were turning people away because we didn’t have room in the building. We started a second service, and that filled up as well. Then God put on my heart to ask our senior pastor if we could move to the main sanctuary, which held 2,500. It was the largest seated auditorium in all of Modesto, California, and God said, “I want to fill it.” I asked my senior pastor, and to my surprise there was a resounding yes. Then God put on my heart to prepare for 40 days for what He wanted to do. In response, we opened our first-ever youth prayer room in an abandoned classroom on campus, which we called “The Round Room.” For 40 days and 40 nights, leaders signed up to take hours on end to cry out for a generation to know Jesus. I’ll never forget the walls of that prayer room. There wasn’t an inch left without a name of an uncle or aunt, brother or sister, mom or dad. Both prayer requests and praise reports to God were etched into those walls. After 40 days and 40 nights, something started inside of us that was much bigger than any of us could imagine.
When we moved into the main sanctuary, we renamed our youth ministry “The Stadium.” The name had two meanings for us. First, it was in honor of the early Church believers, who were brought into stadiums in Rome to die for their faith. We would be brought into this stadium to die to ourselves and live for Christ. Secondly, we had a vision of stadiums being full of people worshipping God, and this was the beginning. The first night we opened The Stadium, around 700 students came; 300 of them were new. Many gave their lives to Jesus for the first time that night. From then on, the supernatural continued to take place weekly. We saw radical salvations and miracles. Students turned in tons of stuff after the services: gang rags, drugs, knives, you name it. One night we brought out a giant trash can and wrote “The Devil’s Trash Can” on it. Every week, teenagers and young adults threw things in there that they no longer needed in their new life with Jesus. This was it. This was what we had believed for. This was what we saw in our wildest dreams. The funny thing was that this was available to us the whole time. All we had to do was open the door. It felt as if we had unlocked something that could not be shut. We had found an important key in the Kingdom—prayer. God says, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Matt. 16:18). If prayer changes things, then prayerlessness keeps things the way they are. Many are still waiting on God, but I tell you today God is waiting on you. He has given you the keys; it’s time we start using them.

prisoner, capture, the end, collision
They didn’t like this when I submitted it, preferring the other things... looking at it now, I do. I never understood why they didn’t
It has always been a matter of getting started and then to go. The first line of this text will make you crash into everything because you can't accept that she is in love with him. In fact you only learn this a few lines later on, but time is different here. So you start to read this page and find out that I don't really agree and so you will learn that he has fallen in love with her, but maybe that is not it, you aren't ready yet (nor the text) because he was my lover, Me I'm not here yet either, like the cheshire cat which is perpetually a virtual cat. But this is only peripherally the theme of the text and I have very little to do with what happens when he goes to the National Theatre to see The Alchemist and discovers her lonely legs beside him and in the same way Durrell describes it a strange fusion begins. (Durrell describes it as passion and desire but he is just a fetishist). Anyway project this text; I would state that he is putting us all on as well, it is clearly implied.
So you are being teased and misdirected as well since you are reading this page and if this is not enough for you, she who doesn't yet know that he is her lover or even (yet) that he knows nothing about women although in the National he appears to know everything a man should and indeed appears even as one may caring… How can one accept that as they leave and in before that even, in the interval when they are talking about Johnson, Bunuel and of women. (They have both recently read Bunuels' memoirs and of course spend some minutes discuss with the barman the theme of making the perfect martini…. And the great libidinal-aesthetic mixing it about. "So easy to be a male artist" she complains "No drama of the woman who wants to be a mother and remain an artist whilst prototyping with fantastic sons of bitches on the procreatal frame…" All this of course goes on close to midnight, then about to part and travel their separate ways… They exchange phone numbers, email addresses.  Then no not like that. She says "I've got to go home, I've had a really nice time… Thanks." "I'll take you" He says  "I've got my car parked off Upper Ground on the Rue du Pommes." "O.K." Her warm naked arms in her sleeveless Agnes B. little black summer dress that she stole from her flatmate. Yes that is what it says just three little words that signify so little but are so important, 'warm naked arms'. Just that. So they get into the Volkswagen Golf which has so many qualities (like Robert Musil's hero), but most important of all is that its Mine. So he drives from the left bank to Ladbroke Grove, she is not a suburban woman, wasting my petrol, the shit, She introduces him to her flatmate who looks daggers at her dress, the removal of which is beginning to fixate him, who is not sure if its the bare arms or the breasts moving beneath the oh so perfect black cloth. The flat is a duplex really, stairs rising up to bedrooms that call to him. Her flat mate is mousy with a flat chest, he misdescribes her. But she knows Joan Miro, vodka and coffee.
It is obvious that one cannot modify the deepest realities. Neither you nor I can deny the facts surrounding the inevitability of the their clash in the night. Nor can we deny that they are waiting even now to speak on the phone, about what ? when ? where ? and so on. Even though this is a text that is still feverish with the events of the day the text is still trying assure me that everything is going to be alright. But i cannot believe this. Must i accept a text simply because it is a text ? I can accept what part of me considers to be ambiguous,  but the phrase take "He goes to east or west London where he leaves the car double parked coming up the art deco lift" at the end of this sentence, that is obviously far too long for a short attention span world, as is the time I  have taken waiting for him and then after he returns and has a bath washing off her scent, then re-emerges dressed in the Japanese robe I brought him from Tokyo last year for his birthday. He leans back against the divan and avoids looking at her breasts as her robe falls open as she, I bend over to kiss him and then sits down her head on his chest and asks him about his evening. Then a glass of Grand Marnier and the last cigarette of the day, his naked thigh on which I play my fingers bringing out that soft dreamy moan, without her or the Alchemist (how nice to see it as without) until that point where I untie my robe, hands running over his body, the first convulsion and together we go off to the bedroom and fall together onto the duvet and then as I move towards those parts of the body that demand attention he says – wait, just a moment I've got to make a call, send a fax, post an email. To her of course – I'm back of course it was fine, I'll see you tomorrow, lunch yes, no it was wonderful I feel as if we have known each other for ever. They talk some more I get off the bed and put on my robe, go past him into the other room and scan CDs, stroke the cat, the text says 'stroke the cat' dream of heroic acts killing terrorists in the office, causing him pain, the text says go past him still on the phone to her, there is no point in re-reading it making sure, that is what it says, I go back to look at CDs stroking the cat whilst he is on the phone to her. Instead I go into the kitchen and make tea turn on the radio, it's so late now that the jazz concert has finished and they are playing some well tempered Bach on radio three. I know,  longer, I don't feel like bed, sleep or anything else. Though the text wants me to stay still drink Grand Marnier and return eventually to the bedroom for want of anything else to do, but I don't see how that is possible as I drink tea instead the robe falling open as the tea pours and I turn and stare at my body in the hall mirror. He has returned to the bedroom. I turn the music up a little and lie down on the sofa thinking of the Francis Bacon paintings I'd seen yesterday.
This was years ago, another century, another universe. Denying the second law of thermodynamics, the unidirectionality of things was never my thing. I went with the flow and vanished a few days later with my clothes and library in the golf. Following the line of flight to another part of london, to a flat near the park. I never saw him again.  Now I wonder if he ever saw me again, perhaps walking along Old Compton Street, through a bookshop window, in a cinema queue, holding hands with the person I love.  All of this was predetermined when the sun formed, from the cataclysmic violence that caused the earth to form...

WHAT IS THE RUSSIAN WORLD OF ALEXANDER DUGIN ABOUT
Being multilingual in both Romanian and Russian as a child, he quickly had the advantage of thinking and speaking simultaneously in two whole distinct languages. For the typical Moldovan household, it is the norm. Romanian, a Romance language related to French, Spanish, and Portuguese, and Italy's Italian have nothing in common with Russian, a Slavic language written in the Cyrillic script. Many Moldovans, like him, are proficient in both languages despite the obvious differences. Like many multilingual kids, he was able to move freely in the linguistic river that had two banks on each side. What it would be like to just speak one language was something he could never have imagined. And to this day, he is still unable. Although Russian is not an official language in his multilingual birth nation, you might claim that "barbarism" - a phrase the Greeks used to characterize those who cannot speak Greek by hearing just their "blah blah" ("bar bar") - is already strange to it. When he was younger, he used to spend each summer at a lively location on the Nistru River that included vibrant wooden camp homes. One summer stands out from all the others, however. To spend a few weeks with the local kids in Moldova, a sizable group of Russian kids traveled as far as Syktyvkar, a city in the Komi Republic in northern Russia. Despite constantly speaking their language, it was the first time in his life that he had ever encountered Russians. Our cities are far apart geographically, yet there aren't many differences in the way we speak Russian. We became close quite fast. When they heard his flawless Russian, they exclaimed, "So, you are Russian?" (Ty russkiy?) He said, "Yes. At the moment, he didn't give that word's definition any thought. He was aware that the term "russkiy" denoted a Russian speaker. Thus, we are all Russian in that sense (russkie). The distinction between them and him is that they are all rossiyane (Russian citizens), but he is just a Russian who lives far from the Russian border. This sounds complicated in English. Both an Englishman and a Scot speak English, yet neither one is an Englishman. Belgians who speak French are neither Swiss who speak German or French. The term "speaker" is used as the major complement in each of these examples. A Swiss may at the very least refer to himself as Swiss-German, but he will never state he is German, German, Teutonic, or whatever. A universal term that conceptualizes such a vast category is available in Russian. Russkiy is located there. In Moscow, Yerevan, or Almaty, one may simply get Russian citizenship. In his current wrath against the West, Vladimir Putin brought all the Anglo-Saxons together, and he seemed to come from the same unending classification that russkiy supplies to him in his own language. The phrase "collective West," which does not discriminate between the Portuguese and the Swedes, the Greeks and the Americans, became well-known in Russia thanks to Putin. The fictional "collective West," according to the Russian president and many of his followers, has always had at least one common goal: a plot against Russia. Even though Google translates both of these phrases as "Russian," russkiy in Russian refers to a far larger idea than rossiyanin. Additionally, russkiy, which has just two syllables and is simpler to say than rossiyanin, which has four, is used considerably more often. Any distinction between the two may first seem to be a mere hair-splitting pedanticism. Nevertheless, it is difficult to miss the fact that practically all post-Soviet nations, including his own, have territorial conflicts with Russia based on language and identity. Simply because Russia is now publicly pursuing its Russkiy Mir (Russian globe) by "legally" annexing additional overseas areas, there is a greater need to pay attention to the concept's fundamental significance from the outset. It's even possible to surmise that this one unidentified word is the root of many problems.
Tumblr media
In addition to their different pronunciations, rossiyanin and russkiy vary in that the first term comes from Rossiya (national country), whilst the latter word comes from Rus—historical ancient Russia, motherland spirit, without boundaries of Kievan Rus'. The coordination of nations and the world community come to an agreement on the boundary for a rossiyanin. However, in Putin's opinion, these things are very susceptible to historical errors. As a result, the Russian president decided to reconsider the Ukrainian state's whole status and blamed Lenin for that "error" and "injustice". Rus' does not fall within this category. For Putin, the traditional Rus' is Russia's true boundary.

i saw that you asked for requests and i also saw that you wrote some nikolai stories based on taylor's songs (i loved). so you could write something based on wilders dreams or you are in love or call it what you want, you choose pls
MY BRAND yes of course i can.
nikolai lantsov: you are in love
and you understand now why they lost their minds and fought the wars...
“marry me.”
you shook your head. while any other girl would likely collapse onto the cobblestones had they the pleasure of hearing those words from the king, you would not. you could not. the possibility of accepting his proposal was a lie you no longer could afford.
“i have a certain inclination to your use of words, darling,” nikolai caught up to your strides easily, “without them, you answers are so very unclear.”
you stopped your pace, shutting your eyes. obviously, nikolai only meant to try and persuade you of his reasoning. he was unaware of how the repetition further shattered the pieces of your heart.
“stop asking,” you requested unevenly, “i cannot marry you because i cannot be a queen.”
“cannot or will not?” nikolai dropped his calm disposition. his words now swam through endless seas of exasperation.
eyes widening at his assumption, you glared, “your people will not accept a grisha on the throne. they will not make an exception for love because they cannot understand how such a thing between you and i could exist.”
albeit offended, nikokai softened, “and i wish i could do more to protect you but even i am unable to offer you reprieve from your own doubts.”
however bold or brash his words seemed, you took them because there was no other conceivable explanation. you refused to argue with him further, not when your remaining moments were already beginning to slip away.
“you have too much hope in the world.”
nikolai scoffed, knocking his shoulder into yours. you saw through his sly smirk and glowing grin, and he knew it. the fox could hide away from just about anybody but never you—not that he ever wanted to.
so, he would pretend for a minute or two, rile you up with his plethora of personalities. then, he would sober up, resounded to your ability to penetrate his defenses. your keen awareness of every notch in his armor, every foothold to climb his fortress, both aggravated and comforted him simultaneously.
“somebody has to,” he chided you, content to snake an arm around your waist and pull you flush against his side, “i don’t want to forget.”
“forget what?” you questioned, turning to face him more fully as a soft pout formed on your features.
“that i have this,” he motioned to your entwined limbs, “you,” he kissed your forehead, “to come back to. i only ever hoped my heart would find its home.”
you stilled. surely, an artist from above could have captured the moment perfectly because of it. they would have to gently shade your individual silhouettes into one, execute the softness of his gaze, and reproduce the muted lighting with watercolor.
you liked to organize your life into two categories; there was the before nikolai lantsov and the after him. before saltwater became the first thing to invade your senses in the mornings, you would have set fire to the bridge of any desperate man’s creation. after you learned to never assume anything impossible, you willingly gave up a piece of your heart to the most lovesick of them all. the one you simply could not have.
gingerly grabbing ahold of his fingers, you aimed to kiss the tip of each one. as always, he pulled away before allowing you to complete your objective. with a frown, you ran your thumb over his cheek.
“i only got to six. none of that,” you minded him with a calm look, “sobachka,” you began to warn him.
“it’s more than five,” he commented with a reference to the day before. quickly, he kissed you to remove any possibility of a retort. you could not escape his lips even if you intended to try, which you did not.
the need for air ultimately pulled you away from nikolai. you frowned discontentedly his way, still frustrated by his actions. you understood his insecurities and accepted the validity of his feelings, but it did not ease the pain of watching him crumble before your eyes.
“my love,” you urged, “i have never understood many things and ended up running,” you held him off with a look, “but i want to stay and learn every part of you.”
bashful, he tucked his head into your neck.
“you have to spare some hope for yourself,” you said softly, leaning your head onto his.
he groaned, indicative of him sourly acknowledging your truth. you turned to kiss his temple, giving your lips the respite to linger just beneath his curls. you sucked in a breath when he responded with one of his own, planted upon the column of your throat. tender yet unexpected.
“but i want you to have it,” he responded, careful to inject the appropriate dose of his personality to make you smile without doubt of his sincerity being a means of withdrawal from the subject.
rolling your lips into your mouth, you melted under his gaze and into his arms, “okay.”
he smiled as radiantly as the sun, with a blush to match the artistry of it setting. you thought you could stay in that moment with him, that not even he could carry you to the next quite yet. you should have known better to predict his unpredictable behavior.
“so,” he drew out, “marry me, then.”
“nik-,” you breathed, fighting a losing battle with a smile of your own. his persistence did not force you to agree, rather charmed you to.
“no!” he cut off deliberately, “no,” the delivery of his words now intentionally softer.
“nikolai,” you enunciated, “if i’m a queen,” you caught the exact second light filtered back into his eyes, “i will never have you again in the same way—not how i do now, at least.”
“i don’t understand,” he frowned between his mumble of the phrase.
“we will be closer than ever before,” you voiced, “but i fear that could push us further apart than we have ever been,” you expressed with a sunken tone.
not letting you pull away either emotionally or physically, he took you into his arms. already feeling more grounded, you breathed in his scent of sea and pine. he was all around you, and it was enough.
“i could never not love you,” he countered.
“that’s not what i’m saying,” you refuted, “but what if you don’t like me anymore? after we are stressed and overwhelmed and stubbornly disagreeing?”
nikolai giggled, kissing every inch of your face, “i like every single piece of you,” his thumbs slipped down your cheeks and onto your throat, pushing your head back for further access, “i like you more than any travel i have been on, any adventure i have sought, and more than any squabble we might face.”
looking up at him under a thick set of eyelashes, you quirked a crooked smile, “really?”
“oh, yes,” he divulged, “i like you more than anyone else—even myself,” he began to taunt you, “and i happen to like myself quite a bit.”
“fine,” you relented with a light sigh, “let me show you just how much i like you and i’ll be your queen.”
a smirk stretched across his face but before he could dip his head to yours, you grabbed his hands away from your neck.
“i like you,” you began with a breath, leaning forward to kiss each of his fingertips, “one, two, three,” you continued as he watched you delicately, “eight, nine, ten.”
blinking rapidly, his gaze softened, “don’t be my queen,” nikolai mouthed, a single breath away from your lips, “continue to be my best friend, the woman i look for in every room, the reason time moves way too fast.”
“thank you for sharing your hope with me,” you spoke and drew your lips in a straight line, “thank you for letting me be in love with you.”
“i never let you do anything,” he began to sway, “could only hope you would keep coming back.”
“i’m in love with you,” you insisted, “and i happen to like that very much.”

The Day the Ocean Erupted
Foul Legacy Childe x Reader Gender Neutral (no pronouns mentioned) Angst, Hurt/Comfort Warnings: Allusions to death, drowning, pain, storms, thunder, rain
~ * ~
You remember the day the ocean erupted.
You’d been in your office, at 2 PM exactly, pen in hand and ink spotting your fingers, the culprits a stack of papers in the upper corner. The sun had filtered through your window and casted shining streamers on your desk as you wrote, typical of Liyue’s golden summers. You tapped your pen against your chin- how to phrase this next sentence? Should you focus on one or two types of silk? You hummed contemplatively, then scribbled a few more words. Sturdiness- that was important to mention in a report, especially one about something elegant like silk. The room filled with a comforting silence as you wrote word after word on the paper in the delicate warmth of the sun.
The first drop came and went without attention. But it was soon followed by another. And another. And another, until the sky was shedding all its tears into the streets and ocean of the city. Your pen had fallen from your grasp with a resounding clatter as you stood to peer outside the window, your eyes narrowed. Rain? In Liyue? Now? It was ridiculous.
Then something burst out of the ocean and you fell backwards in shock, pushing yourself away from the window despite being on one of the upper levels of the harbor. You rushed downstairs and pushed your door open, catching glimpses of an enormous serpentine creature rising from the waters as people rushed up and down the streets in a panic. The rain poured down in buckets, drenching everything and everyone, and all around there’s a frenzy of screaming, shouting, yelling, the same phrase reworded a thousand times, The Fatui did this, it’s the Fatui’s fault, the Fatui are to blame, and you could only think of one thing- your associate, your acquaintance, your companion.
Your friend.
Childe. Where was he? Vanished to the Golden House, they told you, but not as Childe, as Tartaglia, the Harbinger. For business, he said.
But soon you were swept up with the waves of screaming, and the thought had been lost.
That was weeks ago, when the Traveler had harnessed the power of the Adepti and defeated the old god Osial, with a final blow from Lady Ningguang’s Jade Chamber to seal him in the sea. The entire nation held its breath as Fatui activity wavered, dropped, then fizzled out completely. Life returned to normal, the seasons rolling by like a sigh of relief as reassuring whispers spread the news that the Fatui were finally, finally stopping their irritating interferences with the harbor.
You finish your final words and set your pen down, a thoughtful frown prominent on your face. You’ve never really been affected by the Fatui. For the most part they simply existed, a rumored plague on the Liyue Qixing with their endless meddling, but to you they were simple guards standing near doors and on the docks. On occasion when you had to wait there you would make conversation, to which most of them would respond to either in earnest or slightly tense surprise. For all their supposed horrid tendencies and practices and nosiness, you had found that many of the Fatui were, quite simply, people; people from a different nation and far away from home. People who had their own interests and likes and dislikes. People who had their own reasons and dreams and realities.
People who had all vanished when the last ripple in the ocean had stilled. And among them, your friend Childe, the Eleventh Harbinger Tartaglia. He was the only Fatui you would really consider a friend, the others being mere acquaintances. He was always teasingly kind to you, offering to get you a meal or asking to spend some offtime together. You, ever-suspicious, had often refused, but he was persistent and determined to chip down your walls one by one. And when they shook and crumbled your friendship had blossomed, despite the odd melancholy in his eyes whenever he looked at you, a question you never knew the answers to.
All this he was. But he was gone now, you suppose, following the tall, elegant woman you had seen exiting the Northland Bank to the mysterious depths of Inazuma. He looked so exhausted, outwardly appearing as tired as you sometimes felt inside, and your brow pinches.
You sigh and set your pen to the side before rising from your chair, cursing yourself for contemplating old memories. You don’t expect Childe to return anytime soon, if ever, so perhaps some thoughts are best left packaged in their pretty boxes scattered around the attic of your mind. The door swings open as you slip on your coat- it’s chilly outside, and you walk to the teashop for a new blend and distraction from the conflicting turmoil in your head.
The rain begins just as you hurry back home, having forgotten your umbrella in a moment of carelessness. Liyue’s winters, while cold and biting, never froze the storms that encroached almost every other day, instead letting icy droplets of slush fall on people’s backs and clothes. The clouds shield the few stars in the sky from view, blocking out the moon and turning the raindrops an inky black. You shove your door open and immediately shut and lock it again with a sigh of relief, shaking out your clothes and rubbing your chilled hands together. Your breathing is the only sound in the house, and your bones soon settle with a deep chill as the pressing quiet seems more and more foreboding. You cock your head to the side and hear an ever-so-faint rustling sound, and you pick up your weapon before making your way down the hall.
When you reach the living room you blink in surprise. Unlike what you expected, nothing is broken, not a dish is out of place, no drawers are flung open and riffled through. Nothing is wrong, nothing is out of order, your limited vision tells you, but a cold breeze sends goosebumps down your arms and you make your way over to the ajar window, very nearly bumping into furniture several times. You fumble with the latch and pull the window shut, dragging the curtain closed as if to cover the rain with elegant patterns and cloth, and for a few moments, you listen to the steady pour outside as it creates a chiming melody on the roof and glass.
Something breathes next to you. You whirl away in shock, clutching your weapon tightly. Something is here with you, watching you across the room, observing your every move as you hurry to light a match for some semblance of sight, the lamps in your house completely useless right now. The match strikes and connects, a yellow flame bursting to life, flickering like a firefly. You hold it up and come face-to-face with a single eye. Enormous and pearly, it gleams softly in the darkness, although whether it is blue or purple you cannot say. Sharp, plated red armor surrounds it, mask-like and curling into twin horns. The creature’s skin is also armored and bony, shades of purple and black with occasional splashes of red or silver, covered by a pair of translucent, sparkling wings like the deepest sea. It towers over you, claws and teeth razor sharp even in the persisting gloom, and you gasp and stumble away in terror. The starry wings and deep, rich colors, and the feeling it emanates, of being crushed and drowned by shining waves…
An Abyssal creature, some sort of monstrous beast from the depths of your world. It must be.
You back away from it, your chest tight with fear and the thought of death, of dying at the hands of this monster, holding your weapon so tightly you fear it might crack in your grip.
You’ve never been a fighter, only practical enough to keep a weapon you could use nearby. Between you and the creature, the creature would win with a simple swipe of its claws, and you would bleed out on the floor until you didn’t exist anymore, just another body lost to the infinite ocean.
But there is no attack, no clashing, no burning, searing pain, only a soft, sad whimper. You open your eyes and see the creature reaching out to you, crawling across the floor like standing causes it agony, as it lets out a broken and desperate wail. You take a step back again, then a step forward, your fear seeping out of you. Holding the match higher, you lean forward and squint, dots of color bleeding into the environment.
Ginger. Wondrously fluffy ginger hair, although it's wet with rainwater, and a single streak of white like snow.
You know who, and you say who before you even think who, uttering out it’s, his, name in a hushed whisper.
Childe.
Your weapon forgotten, you stand shellshocked in a corner of the room, so still and frozen that Childe himself attempts to rise to his feet, only to fall back to the ground with a pained cry, a sound that snaps your thoughts like shattering ice as you rush to support him. He scratches his claws on the ground, hiccupping, sobbing, whining tearfully at a pain you can’t see. You place a hand on the side of his face and he leans into it, almost slumping to the ground as he brings his hand up to cover your own. He stares at you, pained and suffering, with the same melancholy as before, a melancholy you now understand means I cannot love you, even though I so wish to, it is forbidden by fate and stars, and your heart breaks.
You pick up a distant rumble of thunder, and Childe yelps in fear, wrapping his claws around you and pressing his face into your side, trembling. Your fingers stroke through his hair, running down the sides of his face and horns, and his sobs die to labored breathing as exhaustion finally overtakes him and lets his body relax.
You remember the day the ocean poured down from the sky. It was now, in a dark room with a pinprick flame of light, holding the consequences of the Abyss.
