If you could pick ONE person to make it to the Final Season with Clem, outside of the obvious choices (Lee, Kenny, Luke, etc.) who would it be?
Optional: How do you think they'd affect the course of season 4?
If I could pick one person? Duck. Surviving with Clem from S1 to the finish line, I feel like there's some things he can change.
If he woke up in the room with Clem, he'd could probably be a bit of a mediator between the two, he'd probably take charge a bit and not let her size Tenn up.
In terms of people he'd get along with, Willy, Brody and Mitch come to mind. Once that slightly laid back personality starts coming out, I feel like Aasim would try to lump him in Louis. Duck would probably respect a lot of Louis' outlooks on post-apocalypse life.
During the card game at dinner, I bet answering questions would be hilarious.
C: "What's the grossest thing you've ever eaten?" V: "Oh that's easy, uh, horse eyeballs." M: "Slugs." L: "Cantaloupe." C: "I ate a guy's leg once?" D: "No you didn't!" C: "Oh, right, that's was you." D: "Y-... Hey!" V: "..." M: "..." L: "..." D&C: "We're kidding!" L: "... Are you?"
I imagine, the night they find out Marlon & Brody's secret, I feel like he would either go with Clem or she'd ask him to stay with AJ.
If Duck was there, would he see AJ and stop him? More than likely not on time, the moment he saw him (because literally nobody saw him, but Duck has good hearing and a good eye as we see in S1). Duck would see AJ the second he's about to pull the trigger and it's too late.
It's morning, AJ asks if he's a murderer. Duck would instantly tell him no, but try to explain what he did was considered murder. Naturally, confusing AJ. So Clem would take over.
Tenn comes and gets them for funeral, they come back and wait for the vote. They have to leave.
I feel like on the walk, Duck would quietly ask Clem if it's possible they can try Richmond, but Clem would say it's still too risky.
I mean just imagining Duck running into Lilly again and all I can hear is:
"Kenny's kid...?" "Lilly...?" "Great. I don't suppose your dad's around here, is he?" "Lucky for you, he's not." "Hmph. So he's dead then." "Well, duh...?" "???"
I think he'd be a sharpshooter from the windows. So when Lilly grabs Tenn, he'd shoot her in the arm. I think Tenn would get him to move, and I don't think Mitch would charge then. So... Mitch spared?!
Would he be captured? Yeah, I think so. I think he'd sacrifice himself for either Vi or Lou.
Would Duck be maimed on the boat? Oooh, I dunno. I think since he's more survival toughened, he wouldn't talk more than the Delta found permissible unlike Louis, even though Louis was trying to help Aasim and Omar.
But, when the bomb goes off, hearing in one of his ears is damaged. It's a bit more muffled.
He'd probably be strong enough to fricking yeet Tennessee on the other side of the bridge the minute he pulls that stunt with Minerva.
Which may or may not lead to him being bit. He doesn't get devoured, but Tenn does get him bit. Which pisses AJ off. So Duck missing one of his arms? Ye?
I think he'd get Clem up before she's bit herself, but that doesn't mean we might not have to ditch her leg because of what Minnie did to it on the bridge.
Sorry, it's all over the place but these just came to mind as I was typing, lol!

Not sure if your requests are open rn but if they are could I request you to do if the Ericson kids prefer a s/o who’s either taller, shorter, or the same height as them? Thanks!!
omg omg this is so fun
Marlon: “Shorter.” Marlon said with a smirk. He liked the dynamic it gave to a relationship. Plus, he loved being able to set his chin on top of his partner’s head, if he could. He always saw couples in movies or in books do it. “I just think it would look,” he hesitated to find the right word. “Sweet.” He finally settled on.
Louis: Louis smirked hearing the question, already knowing his answer. “Shorter.” He liked the teasing power it gave him over his partner. “I’ll have a walking armrest.” He teased with a chuckle when asked. Noting the way the others were looking at him, he cowered. “Uh, the same height is great too.”
Violet: Violet would smile at the question. “Taller or the same height.” The thought of looking up into her partner’s eyes seemed sweet, as well as being the same eye-height. There’s something that Violet just found charming about tall people. She would feel so loved by their hugs and affection.
Mitch: Mitch would smile. “Whatever. Doesn’t matter to me.” However, the thought of a shorter partner that he would kiss the forehead of gave his stomach a small burst of butterflies. But then again, he could go forehead-to-forehead with someone the same height. He thought it would be sweet. Cute, even. But he wouldn’t say that in front of anyone.
Aasim: Aasim would pause, considering the question. “It’s not a deciding factor to me, but the same height.” He smiled to himself. “Equality!” The others rolled their eyes at his corny joke, some even nudging his arms and scoffing teasingly. Truthfully, looking into his partner’s eyes was the most important thing to him.
Ruby: Ruby smiled to herself and giggled. “Taller.” Aasim shot her a glance, stunned, but said nothing more. “There’s just something cute about being able to look up at someone - literally - and feel their love for you. It feels so safe.” Unlike the others, she had definitely thought about this before.
Omar: Omar thought about it, ears growing warm as he weighed the options. “Shorter or the same height.” He finally settled on. “I just think it would be cute to have someone smaller than you to tease. Especially since you all always do it to me.” The group chuckled happily, some members cheerily embracing him in a side-hug.
Brody: Brody’s eyes widened. “People think about things like that?” Suddenly nervous, Brody shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know, uh,” she gulped. “Taller. Definitely taller. Yeah.” The thought of it was already making her flustered. She didn’t realize she even had a preference until this moment.
James: James smiled hesitantly. “Anything, I guess,” he said softly. “I’ve never thought about it before.” Finally, considering it, he closed his eyes. “Taller.” He chuckled softly to himself, the thought making his chest warm and happy. “I would like that. Someone taller.”

Hey everyone! I’m finally back with part two of “What’s this feeling?” ! I really hope y’all enjoy it! I definitely experienced a little bit of writers block in the beginning😅 Just an FYI that N/n = your nickname
Tumblr media
“Oh… it was love”
Reaching the gate to the barn, she spotted Y/n leaning against the wall to her left. She was in her typical apparel of one of her many sweaters, some jeans, and a pair of cowgirl boots. The kids at Ericson’s loved to tease Y/n about those boots, but Clem thought they were perfect for her.
“Hey! You ready to head out?”, Y/n looked up at Clem from her spot.
Walking to her with a smile Clem answered, “Yeah, let’s get ready.”
The two prepped their horses for their trek of the day. They were heading out a ways to a near by town to check out some places they felt would be untouched. With Marlon gone there was no longer a set “safe-zone” so they could go wherever in search of supplies. Finishing up, they headed to the main gate of the courtyard, ready to head out for the day.
“Now Aj, please try and be careful. Maybe help Ruby out in the greenhouse, since Y/n will be gone.”, the younger kid had run up to them when he spotted them about to leave.
“I will. The greenhouse is fun, I like lookin’ at all the things grow!”, Aj was an observant child, always noticing minor changes in his surroundings.
Y/n waved a goodbye to the boy and the pair set off for the town. They followed the road through the forest away from the school, until they reached the turn off to the main road, then they followed that.
The pair searched the whole town and some houses that were up the road a ways before heading back for the evening. They’d spent all their time together just simply talking and searching, and when you’re out for nearly a whole day that results in at least 10 hours of conversation. They had already known each other really well, having immediately connected the day Clementine and An showed up at the school, but all the time they spent together just drew them closer and closer.
Clem was flustered when they arrived back at Ericson’s, and Louis of all people could tell. He’d had a sneaking suspicion that Clem liked Y/n for a while now, but he hadn’t wanted to touch on the subject previously. However, with Clem’s face as red as it was, he couldn’t hold it back any longer, “Heyyyyy Clem! How’d the run go?”
“Went good, ‘stuff’s in the bags over by Omar.”, She could tell something was up with him, she was just waiting for his next words.
“Well! That’s good to hear!” His taunting and sly tone was incredibly obvious with every word he spoke, “You and N/n talk a lot?”
She tried to stop it, but the glare had already set in, “Louis can we go sit on the stairs and talk? I need to sit.” Clem vocally claimed one thing, but the look on her face told that she didn’t actually care about sitting down at the moment.
Louis was laughing under his breath, but that got cut short real quick, “Louis what the hell??”
“I don’t have the slightest clue what you’re talking about.”, that damned smirk only grew.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about! How the hell did you fine out??”, Clem’s face was definitely a bright hue of red by at this point.
“What? That you’re madly in love with Y/n over there?”, Louis was on the brink of losing it, this situation was hilarious to him.
Clem was quick to clap her hand over his giant mouth while he whaled into her skin. Louis was laughing his butt off while Clem hid her face in her free hand, this was absolutely mortifying.
*•*•*Time Skip*•*•*
It had been a week now since Louis had confirmed his suspicions, and it had been like another world war for Clem to keep him quiet. Y/n didn’t appear to know anything about the situation, but then again maybe she was just really good at hiding things. All Clementine knew was that she hadn’t planned on telling anyone about it and now that Louis knew, the likelihood of Y/n finding out had gone up about 50%. Louis, bless his heart, COULD NOT keep things to himself, even if his life depended on it. Only difference is, in this situation he’d die happy under the impression that he got to play match-maker.
Clem wasn’t sure if she had planned to ever confess to Y/n before Louis found out, but now that he knew something was pushing her in the direction of telling Y/n someday before one of them died and she couldn’t.
Sadly that reality came to her a little sooner than she would have preferred when they went out hunting one day and a group of walkers snuck up on them out of nowhere. Y/n got grabbed and was an inch away from getting bitten, but Clem came in and kicked the walker off of her, immediately stabbing it in the head. They both took a minute to breathe before Clem helped Y/n up.
“Thank you.”, Y/n was still very shaky, but she managed to pull Clem into a hug.
Clem stood shocked for a moment before wrapping her arms around the other girl. They stood like that for a few minutes, releasing each other and letting big breaths lose.
“You scared the crap outta me.”, Clem laughed out to lighten the mood.
“I scared the crap outta you?? I think I scared the crap outta myself!”, the two laughed, finally able to breathe.
They had started to walk back to the school when Clem spoke up, “Hey umm…N/n?”
“Yeah?”
“I hadn’t really planned on telling you this until Louis found out, and even then I was gonna drag it out as long as I could, but I feel like I need to tell you as soon as possible now.”
“Clem. What is it?”
“We’ll umm… I kinda.. we’ll…”
“Spit it out.”
“I think I love you!”, Not exactly how she’d planned on wording it, but it just kinda slipped out and now it was too late.
Y/n stopped and stood in shock for a minute. Had she heard that right? She must’ve misunderstood… right?
Clementine had stopped herself by now and as the silence drug out more and more she began to panic. She’d really screwed up with that wording, hadn’t she.
“I uhhh- well… I think I love you too.”, God that came out so shaky, how embarrassing.
Clementine let out a puff of air, “Really? I though for sure I’d screwed up with that wording and you were gonna freak out and start avoi-“
She was cut off but another pair of lips on hers. Was Y/n actually kissing her? Like for real? Clem wrapped her arms around Y/n’s back and kissed back.
Y/n pulled back a little, “Clementine I could never avoid you, you mean far too much to me.”
The two smiled at each other in adoration and it was then that Clementine realized, “Oh… it was love.”

Hey, my beloved Blair! Can I reuquest the Ericson gang x reader who play fights with them a lot? like they're just standing there, and reader tackles them to the ground and fights em, they find it funny but when reader has then pinned down just kisses them and they're just so stunned bc they just walk out like it was nothing
Always for you my lovely!!!!! Loves the request (as always!)
TWDG Ericsson’s gang with an S/O who play fights them, kisses them, then acts like newts happened
Violet
Tumblr media
She didn’t really have an opinion on play fight
She did hate it or love it!
But she did find it cute when you’d start wrestling her out of nowhere
You walk into the room and decide to be a cheeky little sod and play fight her
You tackle her to the ground (which is already enough to make her blush)
and then you slowly lean in and kiss her
And she’s STUNNED
They you just get up n leave! Just like that!
She just kinda sits on the floor for a few minutes going over what just happened
Did that actually happen?
Should I go after them?
When you see her again she’s just staring at you (still with a red face) giving you a questioning yet amused look :)
“What’s up with you, eh?” - reader
“You know.”
“Hmm I don’t think I do >:)”
Mitch
Tumblr media
Now this man LOVES play fighting
It’s one of his favourite ways to express love for his partner!
So you too usually do this a lot
This time however after you pinned him down
He was too busy laughing to notice that you where going in for a kiss
You lean back ,after you stole a kiss from him, and just give a mischievous smile
Mitches whole face goes bright red.
He really liked that even if it did shock him a bit
He was going to say something but the next thing he knew you’d already ran off , totally unbothered
Now this man is confused
He gets up and chases after you
“The fuck was that?”
“What?”
“We where messing around then you kiss me and leave.”
“Yeah?”
He low-key wants you to do that more often
He loved every second of it
Marlon
Tumblr media
This man likes his fair share of play fighting!
So when you come into his office and start tackling him
He’s laughing away and gently fighting back
You’ve managed to stick him to the floor while he was distracted and that’s when you took your chance
You lean down and kiss him
And this man is just like “😯”
He wasn’t complaining though
That was until you just walked out lmao
Then ,like mitch, he got up and chased you
“Well?”
“Well what?”
“Why’d you run off after that?”
“No reason :)”
This man will get his revenge.
Louis
Tumblr media
This man doesn’t have an opinion of play fighting but he does finds it funny!
You guys where just playfully shoving one another
Then the next thing you know
You’ve pinned him to the ground
And this bastard is laughing his ass off
“Oh hello there, how’s the weather up there.”
While he’s too busy dying of laughter you give him a kiss on the lips
And then he starts getting all flustered
Literally like:
“🤣🤣🤣..😗…😳”
He’s started questioning you and you just smile and walk off
He doesn’t go after you but he just lies here and smiles to himself
Heaven forbid anyone find him in this state, they’ll think he’s high
He will bring it up to you all the time later tho lmao
Aasim
Tumblr media
This man isn’t really into play fighting but that won’t stop you lmao
He was yibbering on about some random thing and you got bored and started to pin him down
Man is both too flustered and shocked to speak lmao!
You laugh at his reaction and give him a kiss
And omg he nearly passed out
You laugh at him again then leave to go do your own thing
He’s just silently contemplating life for a while
He can’t keep eye contact with you for the rest of the day lol
But trust me he did like it
Omar
He liked the occasional play fight!
You two where just goofing around and having fun and then you decide to pin him down
He’s a little thrown off but regains his cool
He just laughs and you and admire you for a while <3
You kiss him and you can just see all the love he has your you in his eyes <<<<333
Then you just leave.
He is so confused.
When he’d see you later on he’d ask you about it
Nothing negative of course I did love it after all he just prefer that next time you stay with him lol
Ruby
Tumblr media
Was never really into play fighting but every so often she’d allow it
You where where in the green house and you try to distract her my hip bumping her
You then start your light fighting
You end up pinning her to one of the fungus infested table
She was blushing a lot and making excuses to get back to work
Before you let her go, you gave her a sweet little kiss
And she gasps
You smile and walk off and now she’s livid
She’s chasing you and proper lecturing you for that lmao
Brody
Again, she was never into play fighting but she wouldn’t mind it once in a while <3
Your both just kinda chilling and you just start play scrapping her
You pin her to the nearest surface and this girls face goes RED
You gives her a kiss then walk off
And she’s too shocked to do aught
She loves it
She’s just stunned
However later on she’d mention that you shouldn’t tease her like that lmao

Bernie Sanders
Over the last few years, the people of this country have sent some incredible candidates to Congress. They are working every day to build a nation that works for all of us. Today, I’m proud to announce my support for their reelection campaigns. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been a fierce champion for the working people of New York’s 14th Congressional District. She has helped transform politics in America by taking on Wall Street and corporate greed and electrified the country when she introduced the Green New Deal. Alexandria is an inspiration for millions of young people who understand that if they are going to have a bright future, they must be engaged in political struggle. Now more than ever we need Alexandria in Congress and I’m proud to endorse her for reelection. I am so proud to endorse Congressman Bowman for reelection. We need more progressive champions in Congress who are committed to ensuring that the large, profitable corporations that have been ripping off working families are held accountable. Congressman Bowman has been a critical partner in this fight for working families and I look forward to continuing our work together. Pramila Jayapal has been a fearless advocate for workers' rights, Medicare for All, and climate action her entire life for decades before she got to Congress and for her three terms in Congress. She has done a great job in transforming the Congressional Progressive Caucus into a powerful voting bloc to deliver results for working people and call out corporate interests that undermine fundamental rights and protections. Her steady hand and bold vision has made her a very effective leader of progressives in the House. At a time when everything is on the line, we need people like Pramila in Congress now more than ever. I am proud to endorse her in her reelection campaign for Congress today. I am proud to endorse my colleague Congresswoman Cori Bush in her reelection campaign to keep fighting in Congress for regular, everyday people. From Medicare for All to a Green New Deal to reproductive justice, Congresswoman Bush is a proven leader and fierce ally of the working class who has proven herself to be a champion for St. Louis. I'm proud to endorse my good friend, Ilhan Omar, for reelection to the United States Congress once again. Ilhan is one of the small number of elected officials who truly understands the purpose of public service. Since being elected she has been a voice for the voiceless – a fierce advocate for working families and the millions of Americans who can't afford to pay for lobbyists. She is working to guarantee health care for all, fighting to end childhood hunger, standing up to the pro-war consensus in Washington, and taking on the greed of the fossil fuel industry. She does this exhausting, thankless work while being subjected to the vilest, most racist attacks I have seen in my time in politics. And I have never once seen it distract her from fighting for her district and the working class.

Not Fair
Summary: Ms. Martin has an announcement that causes an uproar in the kindergarten classroom. Some of the kids are transferring to another class.
Word Count: 1353
Read on AO3:
Renata lay on her stomach as she hummed a tune to herself. Her hand haphazardly moved across the paper as she held onto the purple crayon tightly. Her tongue stuck out fully a moment later and she made raspberry sounds all for the sake of doing so.
“Renata,” Ms. Martin made her way over. “Let’s keep the volume down, okay?”
“Okay!” Renata spoke extremely loud then spoke again in a whisper. “Okay.”
Ms. Martin gave a thumbs up for the volume level then went over to check on some of the other kids.
“What are you drawing?” Minnie sat down next to Renata and stared at the paper with big eyes.
“It's us as dragons!” Renata exclaimed excitedly then caught Ms. Martin’s look and quieted down. Her energy stayed the same though as she beamed over at Minnie.
Minnie looked at it, her mouth ajar in awe as she looked at the misshapen dragons on the paper. The colors slipped way outside the creatures and it was sloppy. Renata had neither the skill nor the patience to color within the lines.
“I’m the purple one and you’re the red one.” Renata grinned as she held up the paper. “We’re gonna kick butt.”
“Whoa, yeah!” Minnie chimed enthusiastically then cupped her mouth when she realized she was being really loud.
“We’ll fly through the sky and it will be like Bam! Pow!” Renata spun around then tried to do a cool move to impress Minnie when in actuality it was just her placing her hands on the ground where her feet were already firmly set. She looked at Minnie with a big smile from the gap between her legs then made loud fire-breathing sounds. Minnie thought it was the coolest thing she'd ever seen but Ms. Martin wasn’t as impressed as she sighed and put Renata in a spot she was rather familiar with: the timeout corner. Renata didn’t seem to mind at all though. She made Minnie smile and that’s all she wanted. In fact, she was confident that she would make Minnie smile every day for forever.
“So, as of today some of you will be joining the other kindergarten class.” Ms. Martin spoke up from her place at her desk. “If I call your name, stand over by the door.”
Everyone started to talk loudly at that; none of them seemed all that excited by the news. Prisha held onto Violet’s hand tighter, not wanting it to be one of their names. It wasn’t that long since they had decided to be wives and she didn’t want to lose Violet forever. That other class seemed miles away in their minds.
“Don’t worry, the classroom is just down the hall so you’ll still see each other during break and lunch,” Ms. Martin reassured the kids but none of the kindergarteners seemed to believe her. Clementine hugged onto Louis tightly, ready to fight anyone if they were separated.
“Alright, first up is Omar,”
Everyone looked over at Omar who seemed fine with the transfer. He silently made his way over while Louis dramatically called out.
“No!”
“Louis, what did we say about your inside voice?” Ms. Martin looked over at Louis who pouted.
“That it’s my inside friend and my outside voice is my outside friend.”
Ms. Martin nodded along in approval then looked at the list again.
“Oakley,”
Duck let out a sharp gasp then reached out and clung onto Oakley’s shirt. Oakley stood there, their expression minimal but Ms. Martin could tell that their little heart had been crushed. Neither of them moved for a second before Duck tugged on Oakley’s sleeve.
“It’s okay, I’ll see you at break and lunch like Ms. Martin said.”
Oakley nodded along then went over to where Omar was standing.
“Okay, next up are Marlon and Brody.”
That got an intense reaction. Louis’ eyes were wide as he yelled again.
“No! That’s two of my bestest friends!” His pout deepened as his eyes grew big and glassy.
“Louis, you’ll see them at break and lunch. They’ll still be your bestest friends,” Ms. Martin’s voice was calm until she heard a clatter. Her eyes darted over to the right to see that Sophie was trying to lift up Marlon to get on top of the bookshelf and reach the window. She wasn’t quite strong enough to be holding someone for that long though and so Marlon’s body had knocked over some books.
“Sophie.”
Sophie looked over at Ms. Martin and gave her the saddest pleading expression. “I don’t want to just see him at break and lunch.”
“I know, but you’ll get used to it. Now you two pick up those books and then Marlon will go over with Brody and-” Ms. Martin paused when she saw that Mitch was over there too. The deepest frown was on his lips as he held onto Brody’s hand. Somehow he had snuck over there and so had Ruby who was hugging onto Brody.
With a long sigh, Ms. Martin made her way over. She figured she could deal with the two little firecrackers of the class but Mitch and Ruby weren’t having any of it. Within seconds both of them were in the timeout corner. Sophie was already stuck in there too, Louis dangerously close with how near he was to throwing a tantrum but Clementine stopped him from crossing that line.
“Okay, one more name and then we’re done.”
Everyone seemed to tense up at that. Everyone but Therissa who was really hoping it would be her. She wanted to be in class with Bethany. She bet she could impress her with all the prizes she had stolen from the treasure box. Coloring with her, sharing goldfish crackers and counting together, that was the dream.
A dream that Therissa wouldn't get.
“Renata.”
Some of the kindergarteners were relieved that it wasn't their name that was called and focused on that. Minnie, on the other hand, began to silently cry. Renata had a strong reaction too but it wasn't as quiet.
“No. No. No. No. No!” Renata flopped onto the floor and started to roll around before she realized something. Frantically she ran over and clung onto Minnie. She couldn’t leave if she just held on tight enough. A happy, smug smile appeared on Renata’s lips until Ms. Martin pulled her away from Minnie with ease.
Renata’s tiny mind was blown by that. She couldn’t believe it.
“Wait! Don’t take her away!” Minnie sniffled and stuffed her hands in her pockets. “Here! Have my stickers back!” Minnie held up crumpled stickers that she had earned from the treasure box. “Stickers for Ren!” It made sense in her mind. Renata was worth way more than stickers to her but Ms. Martin always guarded that treasure box so she must be obsessed with the stickers.
The plan didn’t work though. Ms. Martin calmly explained that everything would be okay and that they’d see each other at lunch then left to drop off the kindergarteners at their new classroom.
“Well hello there,” A woman with a kind smile came over and knelt down to the kids’ level. “I’m going to be your new teacher. You can call me Ms. Sarita,” Sarita held a gentle expression and the other kids seemed genuinely happy to have new kids in their class. Omar and Oakley sat down with some new kids who introduced themselves as James, Jesse, Trey, and Mary while Brody and Marlon headed over to a table where some kindergarteners named Gabe, Bethany, and Nurgul sat.
Renata stayed put though. She was too devastated to move. It wasn’t fair. She had lost everything today. Ms. Martin might as well have taken her lunch and thrown it into a pile of poo - it wouldn’t have made her day any worse. This whole day sucked.
“Come on,”
Renata felt a hand grab hers and she looked up to see a girl with short black hair give a smile.
“My name’s Nurgul and our table is really nice!” She beamed but Renata couldn’t help but still feel down.
Not fair. Today wasn’t fair at all.

that ending was bittersweet.
bitter because… it’s the final season. it’s done. it’s complete. and it’s not like a fifth season could happen anyway because telltale doesn’t even exist anymore (kind of).
but it’s sweet because of the way it ended. violet being alive and happy, louis finding a way to communicate, ruby and aasim getting together, omar smiling, aj being happy, rosie being happy, and clementine being alive, although she is an amputee.
can’t wait to play season one and go through the emotional damage all over again! woo!
(damn i didn’t know i could let tenn live though. definitely gonna have to make sure he does on my next playthrough, even if it does mean i have to hurt aj’s feelings…)

I might be back on my bullshit thinking about Louis [as if I ever stopped] and episode 2 again. Like... there are a lot of things that could’ve been handled better when it comes to ep2, but can we just appreciate his apology to Clementine during the archery scene?
[note: this turned into a bit of a rant, and for that, I apologize]
It still baffles me that he gets dismissed as a shitbird by portions of the fandom to this day for being upset with Clem and AJ when he just found out his best friend gave away the twins, murdered Brody and tried to pin it on Clementine to cover his tracks... only to then be murdered by AJ after he already gave up, shot him in the back of the head right in front of everyone and left Louis heartbroken and traumatized.
Like I understand that some of y’all think Clementine and AJ should never be held accountable for anything they do and they’re always right, even when they’re in the wrong because you’re the player projecting yourself onto them and everyone who is mean to you is a stupid head unless they’re mean in the right way.
Or you’re one of those violentine stans who feels like the only way to validate your ship is to create this narrative that Louis is a traitor and Clementine would never love him after he voted for them to leave as if the only way you know how to make Violet look good is to make Louis bad by comparison instead of like... y’know, being one of the decent stans who explain and gush about the positives of the ship itself and why they love it rather obsessing over the other ship.
Either way, you’re really gonna look at that situation of Louis reacting to his best friend’s death after what just went down and be like “calm down, Louis, you’re being a jerk :/” like.... I’m sorry?
Aren’t you the same people who complained about Luke not giving a shit about Nick’s death back in s2? how he didn’t have a reaction? In fact, aren’t you also the same people who vigorously defended Kenny for his reaction to Sarita’s death after he lashed out at Clementine? Remember? When he yelled at her and called her a stupid fucking kid who thinks she can just get anyone killed and it’s okay because she said sorry? but it’s fine because Kenny’s reacting in a realistic way that makes sense for his character and he later apologizes for it?
but now here you are, getting a realistic reaction out of Louis that makes sense with his character and all of a sudden, you don’t like it? You want him to just be like “Oh no, Marlon.... anyway.” Really?
Louis is hurt, he’s pissed and he doesn’t know what to do. He’s so shaken by what the hell just happened, Marlon’s dead body is bleeding out on the ground, Ruby’s talking about getting fucking medicine as if that’s gonna do anything, Violet waving her cleaver around at them even though literally none of them were looking at AJ they were all looking at Clementine, Violet you are not helping anyone in this situation, you’re only making it worse and adding to the aggression... but no, Louis shouldn’t be a fucking mess right now. He should just shrug his shoulders and be like “Welp, this is fine.”
Then there’s the damn funeral. Look, Clementine and AJ shouldn’t have been there. I know they had to be for story purposes, but it’s such a bad idea that it makes Violet, the one who wanted them there, look like an ass who has no regard for anyone other than herself, Clementine and AJ, and those who agree with her... which is only Tenn and I guess everyone else sucks and their feelings are invalid because no one else wanted them there since it’s not a good idea to have Marlon’s murderer attend his funeral and if you believe that isn’t going to piss people off or make them uncomfortable, then either you don’t care or you don’t know how to read a room.
And by the way, Louis wasn’t the one who suggested voting them out. He wasn’t even there when MITCH said they should take a vote and everyone agreed to it. So why is it that Louis gets all this blame for how the vote turned out? Oh, Louis is such a traitor because he’s the reason they got kicked out.... except no?
First of all, if you’re so mad at Louis then how come you’re not mad at Ruby? She voted them out, too. So did Omar. They contributed to kicking them out. How come no one else talks about how much they hate them after they said having the vote was a fair idea and then voted them out? Oh, and Willy, too. Willy voted them out. The only other person who gets heat for the vote is Mitch, and he was the one who came up with the idea in the first place... but no one else, huh?
Also, how come only Violet gets praise for wanting Clementine and AJ to stay? Never see anyone talk about how amazing Aasim is after he was the third vote for them. He has legit reasons for wanting them around, too, but he didn’t want them at the funeral either so what, does that cancel out his vote for you? Where is the Aasim love?
Then we got the dorms where Louis and Violet come to escort them away, and once again, I have to mention that both of them are wrong in this situation. They’re on the extreme opposites where Violet thinks they should stay because they didn’t do anything wrong, and Louis thinks they should leave because AJ’s dangerous. Both of these view points make sense with their characters.
However, I guess some conveniently ignore how conflicted Louis is about the whole thing and how he’s feeling about it because it doesn’t fit with the narrative they’re trying to push about his character.
Again, he’s dealing with a lot of shit right now only to be constantly invalidated by Violet, who keeps telling him what a shithead he is for hurting about this, how he’s just burying his head in the sand again and all this other shit, and he eventually snaps at her and says AJ’s dangerous, which hurts AJ and it’s all over Louis’ face that he realizes he snapped and he feels bad about it.
But Louis never got aggressive with them, he never laid a hand on them, and he was there to escort them out in the woods. And that argument of “he sent them out there to die therefore Clementine and AJ should hate him, Clem shouldn’t want any friendly/romantic relationship with him because he put AJ at risk and got him shot” is.... I dunno, ugh? It’s ugh. You act like Louis did this to intentionally get them hurt when that’s not true.
Clementine and AJ have survived on their own for years, so it makes sense that Louis would try to justify this to himself like “they’ll make it out there, they’ll survive because they’ve done this before... this is for the best for everyone” and no, him telling them that this is probably like going home for them isn’t okay, but it makes sense for his character because he doesn’t actually know how bad it is out there.
None of them know, they’ve all lived in walls their whole lives. It’s naïve of him, yes, but it makes sense and he didn’t do this with shitty intentions of wanting them to get hurt. He didn’t know that Lilly and Abel would be out there, he didn’t know AJ would get shot, he didn’t know any of it. He didn’t think that if they voted them out, this would happen. He was struggling with his feelings about them and saying goodbye to someone he was starting to feel a connection with.
And he let them back in. Hell, he carried AJ into the school himself when they showed up wounded and you still wanna call him an asshole and a traitor? He could’ve said nope, get the hell out. We kicked you out, you’re not welcome here.
He didn’t do that, he ran to them to see if they’re okay, he brought AJ to Ruby and stayed with him the entire time Clem was in the office with Violet.... AND he apologized to AJ, quietly begging for him to be okay... and when he’s faced with Clementine after what happened, he doesn’t know what to say to her. He can’t even look at her because he feels so ashamed of himself and feels all the blame for this.
This is a moment that ties back to backstory. Louis’ emotions overpowered him, he made a decision and now AJ is shot and bleeding on the couch.... when he came to the school, they [the staff, I assume] said these kids were bad people, they told Louis that he was bad after what he did to his parents and he internalized that, and this whole this just reaffirms that idea “I am bad, I hurt people, this is my fault.” He blames himself for everything even though there’s no way he could’ve known. You can feel Louis’ genuine concern for AJ and how he’s doing, but at the same time, he’s trying to distance himself from Clementine… and well, sorta failing since he brings her clothes and they have the conversation in the dorms.
Then the archery scene.... y’know, the scene I was gonna make a simple little post about that somehow turned into this.
Once again we have Louis and Violet arguing because that’s what they do now, and Violet continues to tell him to get over himself without listening to anything he says, and he goes to practice archery so that y’know... when the raiders come he can use a weapon to help defend them since he’s not very good with it and needs practice.
Clem goes to check on him, and Louis apologizes for voting them out, explains that when AJ shot Marlon, he blamed Clementine when that wasn’t the right thing to do. He had a lot going on emotionally on top of what was happening around him, but after having two weeks to work through things alone, even though he’ll never be happy Marlon died, he can understand why AJ thought it was the right thing to do... and if he could take everything back, he would. He knew that the moment they came back, and he still does.
I just.... how often does Clementine ever get an actual apology from anyone who has hurt her? A real apology from someone who means it and then doesn’t just turn around and repeat the same hurtful actions? Like... it baffles me that people will look at this genuine apology and tell him to fuck off, but will accept and continue to adore someone like Kenny who will apologize for hurting Clem, only to never try to be better and ends up hurting her even more next time.
Or they’ll accept and justify Violet’s last minute apology for punching Clementine in the face on the boat and putting everyone [including AJ, rememeber?] at risk of either dying or being made into brainwashed soldiers by the delta.
They both have reasons for their behaviors and you’ll work your ass off to justify them, and I’m not saying your points are wrong or invalid, but you seriously won’t even try to extend that same thing to Louis? Why?
Well, jokes on you because I too will work my ass of to talk about Louis and what he’s going through and that’s how posts like this get made. I know not everyone is going to feel that connection to him that I have, and you’re allowed to not like him as a character, but realize that I’m also allowed to give my perspective on his character and why I disagree with points posed by those who don’t like him.
The archery scene is one of my favorites. It’s Louis and Clementine proving that they’re able to open up to one another and say they’re sorry, to forgive the other without being petty or holding it over the other to throw back at them the next time they argue. It proves that Louis wants to put in the effort to repair their relationship and atone for the mistakes he made, to step up and not be “bad” anymore.
I mean, Louis says it best himself. Everyone heard the jokes and the piano, after that, they stop listening... a lot of people just boil him down to a funny man who never takes anything seriously and the only thing he could ever bring to Clementine’s life is a good laugh, but those who stuck with him and put an effort into building his and Clementine’s relationship know better than that. They know how much this apology in ep2 means even with the downer that the timeline of events rushes everything a bit.
The fact that Louis doesn’t have this big ego that prevents him from apologizes, that he can forgive AJ for what he did and still build a strong relationship with both him and Clementine, that if you earn his trust he will follow you to hell and back, that he isn’t afraid to call Clementine out on her bullshit and doesn’t have a come apart when she does the same to him, that with her and AJ by his side he finally doesn’t feel alone anymore.... it’s all just so fucking good.
I dunno, maybe you can understand why I get so ugh whenever I still see these same arguments about him being made with this double standard that doesn’t apply to other characters.

am curious what are your top violentine hcs
ok i wasnt really sure how to answer this since idek what headcanons people out there have? so i'll just list things i personally think about. if this doesnt satisfy your question feel free to ask me my feelings on specific hcs
read more cuz i cant just keep things short and simple
- love that thing mary kenny said about how violet likes to be the big spoon unless shes had a nightmare or has trouble sleeping. i bet clem being the little spoon makes her feel safe when she sleeps in a way she hasnt felt in nearly a decade of sleeping out on the road where she could die at any moment. i wonder if there was ever an incident tho where clem could feel vi against her back in her sleep and woke up ready to fight someone, cuz in the early days of living at the school im sure she'd still be getting over her immediate fight or flight reaction to everything
- related to the last one i think once aj gets old enough clem would move into violets room (and tenn would move into ajs room. every night is a sleepover (yes tenn is alive in my hcs 😔 and no one is maimed))
- i know clem is technically The Leader now, but vi was doing a good job before clem took over, and since her relationship with clem helped her get over herself a bit and now she outright cares for the school group (instead of caring but pretending she doesnt to avoid getting hurt from loss again 🥺), i think theyd definitely lead together. clem is still #1 but violet is like her right hand/second in command. if the group splits up for whatever reason (hunting/scouting/investigating passing groups) then they each take leadership of each group (unless they feel like going fishing together 🥺). they definitely makes plans together. up in the office. sometimes they share the chair (its a huge chair have you looked at that thing)
- again since tenn is alive in my hcs i love the idea of clem+aj/vi+tenn one little family within one big family. if tenn and aj are like playing or drawing vi and clem are watching like a couple of doting parents 🥺💕
- they stole that horse from the raiders so sometimes they go on little rides together around the school, checking defenses. but also just to get some time together alone
- vi gets help from the others to help jury-rig a pully system on the bell tower so clem can get up there again. they make so many intricate home alone style traps i think they could do it. i think clem would cry shdfks. and it would mean that much more to her that everyone helped make it
- violet became very confident in her relationship with clem throughout the last 2 eps so i think they wouldnt shy away from being cute in front of everyone lmao especially as the years go by
- after a number of years together i think theyd like to make things more "permanent". the only signifier of their relationship is the pin vi gives to clem (which is so cute on its own god i love that pin ("so you never forget that night" "i never will" SHUT UP THEYRE SO CUTE)). i thought maybe violet would whittle like a pair of wooden rings but thinking about it more i think they would just make new pins for each other. the pins are kind of their thing. clem would still keep wearing the og star pin, but she'd also get a violet flower pin, and violet would get a clementine pin 🍊💜
- related to the last one, louis would catch violet making her pin for clem and turn it into a whole big thing. because its boring living in the apocalypse and he wants to make this fun. clem would be on board with it and violet would agree if thats what clem wants. so theyd have a little "wedding" with the school kids attending. tenn and aj collect flowers and you know omar would make some big, extra fancy meal.
- idk if this counts but do you ever think about how during the last ep violet gets forcibly split from clem+aj and has to go back to the school by herself, and hours go by and clem and aj havent made it back yet... and how violet probably went back out there to desperately look for them, thinking they were dead and blaming herself for just leaving them there... she mustve been so devastated and scared and angry. i bet she was the first to see aj pushing that wheelbarrow back to the school and just started crying and sobbing if she wasnt already. SORRY TO END THIS ON A SAD ONE but i think about this 😭 ....................
- related to the last one i bet violet spent so much time next to clems bed just hoping and praying that she would wake up. her and aj were probably there as much as they could be. and maybe would even take turns watching over her before she finally woke up. i bet all the other kids would come in to check on her too. they all love clem so much 🥺 you love to see it. its what she deserves. i bet rosie would be under her bed too like she was when aj was putting up the collectibles at the end
ok thats all the ones i can think of atm

Top 5 Aasim Moments
Tumblr media
Is anyone surprised that when CJ asked if people wanted to collaborate on a Top 5 post about a character that I’d choose my favourite pyro?
This was quite fun to talk about and I know everyone else who collaborated on this idea shared the sentiment. If you wanna check out some other lists:
@stop-breaking-my-heart-telltale talks about Louis @kaylee-wolf talks about James @taurusicorn2400 talks about Violet @akemi-rose578 talks about Ruby
Though in all seriousness, Aasim is probably one of my favourite characters from the whole series, and I feel like even as a side-character he has some very good moments that reflect well on who he is as a person. And while most of what we see are only small details, I like what those little details could mean if they were expanded upon.
So yeah, here are my personal Top 5 Aasim Moments from the Final Season.
5. “Aasim was the third.”
Tumblr media
“Aasim said you knew how to survive. He could just tell that the school would be safer with you there. I voted for you because I liked you, but his reason, it was better.”
This is one of those things that I think sums up a lot about what kind of person Aasim is. He is thinking about the big picture and the long term consequences from a logical standpoint rather than a purely emotional one. Violet and Tenn have more emotional reasons for wanting Clementine and AJ to stay – and that is all fine and dandy, but I personally like the distinction that Tenn makes which implies that Aasim is trying to consider the future of everyone at the school.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve been really nice to him or horrible, he sees Clementine and AJ as people they need to keep around if there’s some guy in the woods who has already taken some of the kids from the school before. It is simply a smarter move to keep the people who know how to survive close by when there may be an impending danger creeping around.
And I think it’s also really telling that he’s only known Clementine and AJ for a few days at the time of the vote, and he’s already gotten a read on their skills. It seems a little counter-intuitive given his sometimes awkward social abilities, but he’s clearly observant and using those observations to inform his decision making.
Plus on a personal level, I like that this shows Aasim as like a middle ground between Violet and Louis. Violet seems to vote in terms of Marlon deserving punishment, and therefore AJ did nothing wrong and shouldn’t receive any repercussions for his actions - whereas Louis just lost his friend and knows that AJ is a threat, and he’s voting from an emotional standpoint where he’s hurt and isn’t focusing on the future because of it.
I find both those mentalities realistic and in-character, but too extreme - Aasim is upset by the death of his friends, he acknowledges that Marlon had made some bad decisions, but he still votes for the pair to stay. He feels like the only character who is listening to the explanations and processing things clearly.
Overall, I really like the way that Tenn tells us about this moment – I just wish that maybe this revelation came earlier in the plot so that we could potentially bring up the discussion with Aasim and thank him, or hear more of his thoughts overall.
4. Going hunting for rabbits
Tumblr media
The only pure, one-on-one interaction you can have with Aasim. And I just wish there were more moments like this.
I like that Aasim will ask Clementine if she’s a good shot – and he will take her word for it and let her help without any undercurrent of doubt. And if you do well, he’s quick to say that it’s thanks to you that they’ll end up with more rabbits than expected today.
It’s just nice, ya know? It’s an acknowledgement that we are making an effort and it is appreciated.
And it once again gives you more insight into his priorities – he cares about the group and is hoping that Clem shares his mentality of prioritising the group’s wellbeing and survival first. That she is ok with putting the work in to make sure that they not only get through today, but tomorrow and the next.
Perhaps this is all down to personal preference – but in this series I really really like meeting characters with that mentality. There are too many groups that we meet who don’t have long-term plans, or their plan is essentially to make it up as they go along, take what they need and screw the consequences.
Forward thinking is a really good quality to have in the environment they’re all stuck in, and this scene cements that. I just wish there were more scenes where I could reciprocate having this mentality and potentially find a way to corroborate ideas on where the school is heading.
3. Standing up for Clementine and AJ during the Marlon drama
Tumblr media
This is technically spread out between two parts – how Aasim deals with the twin revelation, and also how he deals with the aftermath of AJ shooting Marlon.
It is a very tense situation, emotions are running high, everyone has just learned some unhappy secrets, they are trying to process that Brody has just died, and a gun is being passed around like a hot potato and pointed everywhere. A lot of the kids are confused and unsure if what they’re hearing is truth or lie.
And naturally, since Marlon doesn’t want the truth to come out like that, he isn’t trying to clear things up. If he doesn’t let Clem explain either and simply paints her as the threat and the liar then it is easier for him to gloss over the details. And in reality, no one wants to believe someone they trusted would hide something so heavy from them – and some people would rather continue to trust them because that feels better. That makes us feel like we haven’t been betrayed.
But Aasim doesn’t do that. He wants to hear the story, and he makes sure he shuts Marlon down in his attempts to stop Clementine from explaining herself. Keep in mind, this is also at a time when Marlon has the gun, and is threatening to shoot Clem if she doesn’t shut up. To speak up at all in this moment is dangerous, especially when you are siding against the person with the gun.
I know that the main point of this scene is to appeal to either Louis or Violet – but we shouldn’t forget that we didn’t need to appeal to Aasim for him to stand up for you in his own way. He does that for himself because it’s the right thing to do – you let people explain themselves when something happens. He might not get in the middle of the fight like Louis or Violet, but I still appreciate that he picks up that something is wrong and gives Clem the opportunity to speak up.
Yet of course, we know what happens at the end of that episode regardless of how we play this final scene.
Marlon gets shot. AJ doesn’t understand why everyone is angry. Violet pulls her cleaver out and tells Clem and AJ to go inside, while pretty much everyone else is stuck somewhere between wanting to punch someone and bursting into tears.
While everyone is stuck in this limbo of anger and sadness, Clem leads AJ back towards the dorms. And Mitch isn’t pleased in the slightest and pulls his little knife on the duo. And this is the second time in this whole drama that Aasim steps in to deescalate.
If you choose the silent option [...] or let the timer run out on this choice, Aasim will tell Mitch off, telling him to stop and that what he is doing isn’t helping.
It’s a little thing, but if people have seen me comment on argumentative scenes in these game, I don’t like when characters don’t know how to deescalate. So having a character blatantly point out how fighting fire with fire sometimes just causes a bigger fire and burns everyone – yeah, I appreciate that. Any character who deescalates is a good thing in this series.
2. Watching out for his friends on the boat
Tumblr media
Imagine being on that boat, being scared and hearing your friends in clear distress, when suddenly someone appears to break you out – and instead of simply saying “great, get me the hell outta here”, Aasim and Omar wait for Clem to attend to Louis/Violet first.
They know that the highest priority at that moment isn’t them, it’s their friend who has received more direct attention from Lilly.
But then of course things get worse and Clem gets caught too. And Regardless of who is captured, the first thing Clementine hears when trying to find an escape is Aasim asking her if she’s alright. Thanks for checking in, Aasim, that’s a good friend move there.
And that’s his whole thing with the boat – he is watching out for everyone else there. He watches out for Clem who just got there, and in the escape from the boat he is either being the shoulder for Omar to lean on, or he beelines over to Louis to support him after his ordeals from being captured.
He just... aaah, he’s being a good friend and trying to help. It isn’t self-preservation that drives his actions, it’s the preservation of the group as a whole. After everything that happened on that boat, I don’t think we could blame the characters if they wanted to hightail it out of there without thinking. Aasim doesn’t forget about his friends in spite of how scared he tells us he is. How can I see this and not think he’s just an incredible friend to have in the apocalypse?
1. Protecting Willy from the raiders
Tumblr media
This is another point with two parts.
The first part is obvious – Mitch has just been stabbed in the throat, and Willy is prepared to run out there into the thick of things. It is only Aasim being quick to grab a hold of him that stops the boy from meeting a similar fate.
And it’s awful to think about – Mitch was a friend to both of them, they’re both probably shocked, hurting, and they don’t have the time to do anything about it. They can’t save him, it’s too late, and they can’t mourn him or do anything. Somehow, Aasim can at least keep his head clear enough to stop Willy from getting himself hurt too. And I can’t help but feel how bad that must hurt emotionally too, to be forced to hold everything back because you have to prioritise everything else over your friend who is dying.
Yet they don’t break. They keep moving. It takes a lot of inner strength to not crumble, and these two manage.
But then there is the second part to this point – and hear me out, we’re entering speculation territory.
The raid continues, and the kids carry on with their plan and fall-back to the admin building. They set off their traps, end up stuck up stairs, and Abel decides to throw a molotov towards them. In the next moment Clem and AJ go into the headmaster’s office, and Aasim and Willy turn and move somewhere down the hallway.
We don’t see either of them again until Clem is outside and given the choice to save Louis or Violet. And when we do see them, it’s seeing Aasim unconscious in the back of the cart, and then Willy suddenly appears behind Clem as he exits the admin building.
How?
Aasim and Willy were together when we last saw them, and yet somehow Aasim got caught and Willy stayed in the admin building somewhere?
It doesn’t make sense to me. Aasim had been shown as the one who would be less likely to get caught out of the pair. And surely if they managed to get Aasim they should have been able to more easily get Willy too, right? So why didn’t they?
The most logical answer I can come up is that Aasim got caught while attempting to keep Willy hidden from the other raiders. Whether he was playing distraction and got caught in that task, or if he simply didn’t have time to hide/run after Willy got somewhere safe, in either case I feel like that’s a huge risk to take to save someone else.
But he does that, and I think it’s an incredibly selfless move to make. And I really do believe he will do that - I believe he cares enough to go the extra mile to keep his friends safe.
And I want the details. I love everything that is implied in these moments, but I want those details solidified.
That is the thing about me adoring Aasim as a character - there’s less concrete information to latch onto, but what is there is good.
Are there any other things I missed that you guys love? Let me know - always happy to talk about the pyro.

Afterglow
Pairing: Clementine x Louis
Word Count: 2k
Summary: Once the party has finished, the children sulk off to their rooms, worrying about the fight ahead. For Clementine and Louis, the night is still young.
A/N: welp….I was gone for longer than I thought. It was a nice break, I hadn’t realised how much I actually needed it. Despite that, I missed everyone, I missed being here. So I figured what way to come back than by posting a one-shot I’m high-key proud of?
Enjoy xx
-
Does the darkness have a name?
As AJ blew out the last candle, that’s all there was. Darkness. The odd ray of moonlight poured into the room, shining through the wooden beams covering the window. It was on all of their faces, shadows making them appear older. They all felt it, together. A sombre harmony.
Clementine watched her friends slink out of the room, whispering their goodnights. She noticed the gentle shake on Ruby’s shoulders, her hands held tightly together, trying to comfort her own mind. Tenn and Willy walked away together, thankful that their friendship wasn’t long gone, thankful for the pleasant distraction.
She wondered when it first appeared, this darkness. Had it crept into their lives as children? Already apart of the world long before they were ever born, or was it new? Festering on the decay and newfound rot. She pulled her jacket around herself, trying to conceal the darkness that was definitely within her.
She was so wound up in her brooding thoughts, she didn’t even notice the small presence beside her until he tugged at her pant leg. “Clem?” Her goofball looked up at her with tired, sunken eyes. “Can we go to bed?”
Clementine would have taken his little hand and gladly dream of lighter things if there still wasn’t someone in the room. Hiding away from the moonlight, wrapped up in more darkness than anyone, Louis. His hands now lay empty beside him, the keys on his dear piano lonely. A few minutes ago he was lighting up the room with his tune, capturing the attention of everyone. Now he hid away into himself, a form Clementine hadn’t seen from him before.
“You run off kiddo, I’ll be there soon,” Knowing he would want to stay by her side, she gave AJ a little push out the room, quickly waving goodbye until the door was shut completely. He was still so new, he didn’t understand what the darkness even was and why it won’t ever go away. She turned back to Louis, finding him now tracing the edge of the keys. The silence was haunting, he didn’t fit into it at all. “I can tell that something is on your mind.”
He inhaled deeply before answering. “I’m wondering what Violet is doing right now.”
Clementine froze on the spot, her feet attached to the muddy carpet only because he was brave enough to say what everyone was thinking. “I don’t know. If Lilly wants soldiers I’m sure she won’t hurt any of them.”
“Yeah, you might be right,” Rather he hoped she was. All of them; Aasim, Omar and Violet. This woman, Lilly, was so ruthless. Yet it exposed just how blind Louis was, how unsafe and vulnerable they had been this entire time. “How many more of us have to die before the dust finally settles?” Hearing Willy and Tenn list off the names of their old school mates unlocked memories Louis filed away, hoping to never tread across again. The kid they found chomped to bits by the river, the debate club president they found hanging from the basketball hoop, the girl Louis used to sit next to in art class was barely recognizable when the walkers left her by the river. Her neon purple socks being the only telling feature.
Clementine felt it again; that strange thump in her heart, out of tune with the rest of her body. If the darkness did have a name, she assumed it would be her own. Bringing death and war wherever she went; the motor inn, Marsh House, the cabin group, Howe’s Warehouse, hell even the Garcia’s. People ran or they died and Clem couldn’t decide which was worse. “We’re going to be okay-”
“You can’t promise that!” Louis whipped his head right at her, revealing the red veins popping in his glazed eyes. He rubbed the back of his neck, pressing at the tight knots that never seemed to go away. “Sorry. I’m just scared. I’ll, uh..I’ll sleep it off, that should help.” This was everything.  His parent’s divorce. Marlons’ death. Violet’s, Omar and Aasims’ capture. Every shrapnel of pain, guilt and grief throwing him into the shallow end.
She knew it all too well. “Louis, you’re not going to bed,” Clementine recognised the look on his face, she had seen it on AJ countless times before and it always lead to nightmares and restlessness. She glanced inside the case for the classical record, finding another one inside, secretly hidden away. Lady luck was on her side for once. After setting it all up in the gramophone, she twirled over to him extending her hand. “Dance with me.”
He looked at her hand then back at her, trying to decipher what she was doing. “What?”
“C'mon, or can you not dance?”
She could see it, the darkness rolling off his shoulders like a wave lurching off a steady rock. A cheeky smile appeared on his face slowly, her Louis was shining through once again. The silly boy she had fallen for. “Oh, I can dance. I’m just not sure you’ll be able to keep up with me.” He hopped up, rubbing his sweaty palms against his jeans. When did it get so hot in here?
Clem took a final step closer, their shoes now touching. “Then show me.” She breathed into his ear, enjoying her little sense of pride as the roaring moonlight exposed his flustered expression. No longer were his eyes hollow and empty, now returning to their glowing form.
The gramophone sprang to life as the song began to fill up the room, an entity all of its own as it seemed to brush away the dark clouds nesting around them. Or perhaps it was love, crawling under their skin as they slyly glanced at each other. Either way, what bliss.
I’ll be seeing you In all the old familiar places
Louis shook his head, trying to string together a sentence. “Let’s…uh, how do we start?” They readied their hands into the right position, even if it was entirely based on what they saw on tv as children; his hands crossed around her waist, hers snaked around his neck. “You want to stand on my feet?”
Clementine’s eyebrows pursed together, her nose crinkling. “Is that a short joke?”
He hummed it over, purposefully ignoring her stubborn gaze with a slight glint in his eye. “It is now.”
That this heart of mine embraces All-day and through
Louis twirled her around beneath their natural spotlight, letting the sparks from the moon push against the claws of the darkness. It fell away from their minds just as quickly as it took ahold of them. “Never took you for the dancing type.”
“There’s still a lot you don’t know about me, Lou.”
In that small cafe The park across the way The children’s carousel
He pulled her in rather closely, placing his lips against the tip of her ear. “I look forward to finding out more then.”
The chestnut trees The wishing well
A fleet of giggles broke free from both of them as he twirled her for the umpteenth time. Clementine found the room still spinning once she was back in his arms but she didn’t mind, he was there to keep her close. He was the only thing she was certain of these days. “Told you we would have plenty of time for dates.”
Louis madly grinned from ear to ear. “This is another date? Damn, two in one day. I think that might be a new record.” His normally chipper voice had somehow reached a new level of glee, making her already frantically beating heart soak in the sound.
I’ll be seeing you In every lovely summer’s day In everything that’s light and gay I’ll always think of you that way
Clem bit at her lip, considering what exactly he had proposed. “I don’t think it is…”
“It is now, I decree it!” He sang out loud in his typical fashion.
She rolled her eyes, a common reaction to his quips. But unlike the other kids, Clem was still smiling. “You can’t just make up new records, there’s a system, it takes time.”
“Of course I can!” He twirled her with a tad more ferocity this time, letting her get distracted from the silly debate as she couldn’t help but squeal, her feet at frantic work to keep her level.
I’ll find you in the morning sun And when the night is new
Louis pulled her in closer than they originally were before, gazing down at her. His eyes softer, radiating warmth. A warmth she hadn’t seen in another human for quite a while.
“Time doesn’t exist anymore.”
Clementine gently patted his shoulder, returning to her original stance. “Let’s just get through tomorrow, then we can discuss our future.”
Their future.
I’ll be looking at the moon But I’ll be seeing you
Their future could be anything; her wish was his law. Anything she wanted or desired for the chance to show her he could be it all. He could be hers and she could be his and they could be together and it would work.
As if he wasn’t already hers the moment she graced his lowly life with her presence.
I’ll be seeing you In every lovely summer’s day
“Ow!”
“Sorry!”
“Maybe I should stand on your feet.” Clementine huffed as she attempted to shake the pain out of her foot. The heel of his boot was a lot harder than she had considered, then again she never gave his shoes much thought. Not when there were other more charming factors about him to focus on.
In everything that’s light and gay
His eyes shot down to his feet, watching carefully with every step he took. “Maybe I’m not that good at dancing.” There was no beat or melody to their odd little dance, their feet just stepping wherever and however.
I’ll always think of you that way
Gently placing her finger beneath his chin, she raised his head back up, forcing their eyes to meet. “You’re not too bad, we’ll just have to practice.”
“Oh ho ho! Practice? More dates? I like the sound of that!”
I’ll find you in the morning sun
She considered her next words carefully, not wanting to burst this enchanted bubble they had made. “It means you can’t die on me tomorrow.”
Louis almost didn’t hear her over the music, until the words settled and the weight of it clicked. It was there; death and the darkness that came with it. Not just for the war they were about to embark on, but every day after that too. “You can’t die on me either. This is a two way street.”
And when the night is new
She knew the weight of these two simple words, yet declared them anyway. “I promise.”
His much larger arms clung to her much smaller waist and gently dipped her to the floor, her hat tumbling down, though neither of them cared. She clung onto his shoulders tightly, her nails digging into his warm coat, wondering if he was trembling the same way she was. “Me too.” He promised, with nothing but love on the mind.
Their eyes remained linked; copper melting with bronze. The darkness had sulked away, letting the moment remain in a light bliss shared by the two. A new, hopeful harmony.
I’ll be looking at the moon But I’ll be seeing you

Making Friends: Basterds Imagine-Fem!Reader

___________ It was a cool Sunday evening. The basterds marched into an A-list,  luxurious club in the middle of Paris, in the middle of the nazi occupation. It was a bold move. Some may even say stupid. But it was necessary. Besides, they were the basterds. Bolder still was something they'd come to see in a few moments. It was you. You, in your long, glamorous red evening gown, with a slit down your leg, and black gloves half way up your arm. And bolder still, the bright spotlight shining directly onto you with a loud click, just as the band began to play. The basterds had never seen you before...but the light that flowed onto the crowd immediately around you was quite revealing. They'd seen every single one of those spectators before. They were all high ranking, high profile, high-on-their-kill-list nazis. All of them were targets the basterds had been pursuing from the moment they landed in France a year before. And there they were, all in one place. Donny instinctively reached for a pistol hidden in his coat, but Hugo signaled him off, shaking his head slightly. If Donny did what all the basterds wanted to do, none of them would make it out alive. Aldo looked around at the basterds, with stark eyes indicating one word they often did not listen to: "Wait." Since it was an order, they had  to do just that, while clenching their fists and jaws seeing their prime targets slip through their fingers.  In order to fit in, they ordered a round of drinks, and lit up some cigarettes. They had no choice but to listen...and watch... your performance. "When they had the earthquake in San Francisco, back in 19-6..." You were singing put the Blame on Mame. It wasn't quite what they expected to hear, but, they weren't exactly complaining. And yet...
Aldo leaned into the table, and muttered low enough so no outsiders could hear, "Look for anyone that might be Y/n L/n. Got it?" Aldo rolled his eyes, seeing Hirschberg's eyes were glued to the stage. "Got it, Hirschberg?" "Uh huh..." Aldo muttered, "Damn it, Hirschberg," and glanced at the stage... He wasn't disappointed. The light from the chandeliers reflected off your eyes, beaming flares of danger and daring as you sang and swayed with the band, walking out toward the crowd, "Put the blame on Mame, boys..." The basterds scanned the room, looking for anyone that looked like a Y/N L/N. "Mame did a dance called the hoochy coo-" Hirschberg's elbow rested on the table, and his chin dug into the palm of his hand as he sighed, "Hm...she really did." Smitty rolled his eyes, nudging Hirschberg out of his day dream. "Look for L/N." "I'm lookin'..." "Not at the right-" With that, the song ended, and the announcer spoke in French while the crowd called out for an encore. The one thing all the basterds were able to pick out, even though they didn't speak French, was two words: Y/N L/N. Donny laughed in disbelief, "No fucken' way..." "This is crazy..." Omar shook his head,, watching as you blew kisses out to the crowd with a wide smile. "She's crazy..." Wicki muttered, lighting a cigarette that rested between his lips.
Aldo shrugged, "Well shit..." He chuckled, and sighed, "Well best damn place to hide is right out in the open, some times." Hirschberg elbowed Smitty, remarking "Told ya I was lookin' the right fucken way." They sat through the encore, and the encore to the encore, and the roaring applause. They watched as you spent the night moving from enemy to enemy, spilling their drunken and careless secrets right into your ears. Eventually, the club was empty except for one of the bar tenders set to lock up, you, and a few disguised soldiers. "Des amis à vous?" He chuckled lightly as he wiped down a glass. "Friends of yours?" "J'espère" you sighed, as you took a drink for yourself, "Hopefully." The bartender, Marius, leaned over the counter and presented you with your purse. "Merci," you chuckled as you pulled out a folder. You made your way to the table in the back of the club where ten young men were sitting. You stopped at the edge of the table. Though the lights were fully on, there was still a sharp streak of intrigue and hazard cutting through your smile. You were one dangerous woman, any basterd could see that. You looked them over, barely half a moment studying each of their faces. You slid the folder onto the table, and it met the hands of the  man at the very end of the table: Aldo Raine. A round of whiskey and packs of smokes were brought to the table as he briefly filed through the thick stack of bloodstained information. It was exactly what he was looking for...which was suspicious. Aldo sniffed some tobacco before looking up at you, "So uh, where does a pretty lil' parisian singer like you get information like this?" You spoke suddenly, in what could without a doubt be identified as a Brummie accent, "Get yourselves some friends, mate." Hirschberg smiled blankly with dreamy eyes as he nodded "So you're British..." Your accent changed suddenly, sounding like an equally dreamy California girl as you shrugged, "Depends who's asking." Aldo had his fair share of run ins with spies and double agents. He laughed, "Aw you tommy's don't know wh-" You suddenly mimicked his accent, "Tommy, huh? Ain't that nice." He was startled, but then smirked a little "Well I'll be damned..." You shrugged, now in your natural tone and accent, "Sometimes, darlings, the best informants are only great pretenders." Hirschberg could hardly contain his excitement, asking with a wide grin, "Who are you?" Smitty rolled his eyes, though he had to admit, "You do look familiar." "Oh," You shrugged, "I've been here and there." "Where?" Even Wicki was a little curious.
Seeing as you'd all be there for quite some time, a pot of coffee was brought over by Marius.
Hugo finally spoke up, "You make friends with the nazis?" "I make them think I do." You shrugged, taking a sip of coffee, with a sly grin. "Rub elbows with the higher-ups, get them piss-drunk. A few drinks loosens anyone up...And loose lips sink ships," you winked as you stirred your coffee. Something about the way you smirked told them you were one hell of a spy. You could tell your enemies the loveliest lies of all, and they'd believe you. You were dangerous... But to the basterds, you were now an ally and an advantage. Donny raised his eyebrow, remembering their briefing before finding you. It wasn't just a folder with names and rumors. You had indispensible, indisposable insight. This folder was only the tip of the iceberg. You had names, you knew faces, voices, wives, families, addresses, plans and plots, back alleys, back ups, and back stabbers, spies, and double-agents. You knew the worst of the worst, and they knew you. Just what the basterds needed. Not only that, but you were supposed to house the basterds in your apartment in the dead center of Paris while you helped them piece everything together and create a plan of attack. Donny asked, "They know where to find you?" "No one gets in without an invite. Every one of those damn animals stationed in France knows that," you smirked, "But, for the next few weeks, only you boys have an invite. No one gets in or out." The doorman, after all, was a friend of the resistance. He packed a gun. A knife. Not only that, he literally owed you his life. Marius vouched for that as you walked toward the stage. You'd left your keys backstage.
"So how do we know you won't double cross us?" Wicki wanted to trust someone, he really did... But that got harder to do as the war went on. You stopped by the stage, looking back at him, you lifted your leg onto the stage, your heel producing a powerful, echoing thud. The slit of your dress shifted, revealing a knife strapped to your thigh. "This knife belonged to-" you trailed off, knowing you'd never see his face again. You'd used that very knife to exact revenge on the nazi that took him from you. "Someone I used to know. Using it won't bring him back...but it does make the world a little brighter." Hirschberg sighed, resting his face on his palms, murmuring "Marry me..." You giggled, disappearing behind the stage's velvet curtains. You soon reappeared with the keys, then quietly led the basterds through Paris. Louis, the doorman, kind as ever, let you all in through a hidden back door. He familiarized himself with the basterds, taking note of their faces. They were the only ones to be allowed in to see you for the next few weeks. As the basterds followed you to the elevators, and you made sure no one saw them walking into your apartment. You quickly unlocked the door, and drew the curtains before turning on the lights, then welcomed them all in.  For the next couple of weeks, this would be their headquarters. You showed them around. It was a big place. You had a few guest rooms, showers, and had stocked up the kitchen. The flat itself was about as luxurious as the club. "Nice place ya got here, kid." Donny smirked as he sat on the couch, which was the first couch he had sat on in well over a year. Aldo nodded, looking around, noting the thick walls and quiet area. "This'll do..." Wicki wasn't so sure. He stood behind you as you cleared things off the large dining room table, and began to set down files, maps, and photographs that they'd need for the mission. "The nazis know where you live, don't they? What if-" You shook your head. "I wouldn't bring you somewhere it was dangerous. Believe me, corporal. I want this war to end, too." You sighed, "Besides....it'd be rather ungentlemanly to just barge into a lady's home, knowing she lives alone. As a matter of fact, it's scandalous." "How can you be so sure?" You shrugged, as you organized some of the papers, "Would you rather these meeting be held somewhere more public?" Omar smirked, "She's got ya there, Wicki." You sighed, glancing at the clock on the wall. It was just past 2:30 in the morning. You welcomed them to make themselves at home. They slept in a warm, quiet place for once. Though it was safer than what they were used to, there was still a lingering fear that any moment, the sound of marching boots would echo in the hallway leading to your front door. They were soldiers, far behind enemy lines. There was always a chance of something going wrong. You weren't a soldier, but you were in no less danger. It was Wednesday now. You spent the first few days going through files, showing them what information and photographs you had about their targets before even starting to come up with a plan of attack. It was now nearing midnight, and you noticed Aldo was tense, snapping a bit at his men. He wasn't uneasy because of the information you were giving them,  in fact, the things you gave them gave him the most peace of mind he'd had since he left Tennessee. You slipped away for a moment, and found Utivich in the kitchen, eating a pastry you'd left out for them. You noticed he had a bit of a sweet tooth, and made a point of saving a few extra treats for him (because Donny tended to eat way more than his fair share). "So your lieutenant's a little-" "On edge?" Smitty chuckled a little with a sigh, "Aren't we all, miss?" "Y/n." You smiled kindly as you sat by him, handing him another pastry. He smiled with bright, grateful eyes, "Thanks, Y/n." You nodded once, and after a moment you asked, "He a smoker?" You hadn't seen Aldo light up a cigarette, and wondered if he'd gone through his ration...and subsequently gone through a bit of a withdrawal Smitty shook his head, "Snorter, though. Man loves his snuff." "Ah," you nodded, understanding as you made your way to a cabinet. You pulled out five tins of snuff, or so, and Smitty watched in awe. "I told you, make friends to survive this," you winked as you walked back out to the main room. The rest of the basterds were calling it a day, and finding a place around the radio to sit. Aldo was standing by the window, looking across the street. There was an operahouse and a theater there, which was going to play a part in the big plan. "No one's going to talk. You're not the first man anyone's seen on this balcony," You chuckled as you pulled him out to the balcony for a breath of fresh air. He looked up at the stars. The big black canvas with an infinite splatter of stars, reminding him of the southern night sky. He smiled softly. You slipped the tins into his hands, and he turned to you "What's this for?" You shrugged, "A little birdy..." You glanced out at the sky, and the Parisian skyline. Sure it was bright...but this night didn't hold a candle to what you knew before the war. You smiled softly, nostalgia clouding your eyes. It was a familiar feeling, and you saw it in Aldo's eyes, picturing a sky an ocean away. You left him there, knowing soldiers like Aldo had a lot to think about, and a world on their shoulders. So you sat with the others by the radio for a while, looking at them once in a while, wondering where they'd be a year from then. Maybe they'd be home by then... At least, you hoped they would be.
Later that night,  you woke to the sound of footsteps. Your eyes shot open, fearing the worst, as you reached for your knife.  You snuck to your doorway, ready for anything... Except for what you saw. Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz pacing around, murmuring things to himself every so often. "Hugo." Your voice was soft...and that's what startled him most. You motioned for him to come in. He hestitated for a moment. He spoke lowly, "Sie könnten die falsche Idee bekommen ..." 'They might get the wrong idea...' How he knew you could speak German, you didn't know. He lingered outside of your bedroom, and you giggled, rolling your eyes as you pulled him in, "Schlimmeres kann über Menschen wie uns gesagt werden." 'Worse things can be said about people like us." He smiled briefly, though it was dark, you couldn't see it. You flipped a dim lamp on, and shuffled through a hidden drawer, till you pulled out a  key. You smiled, hoping he'd be a bit patient with your system. You opened a jewelry box...though there was no jewelry in it. Just cartridges and bullets for guns Hugo hadn't seen around. He was a little impressed, though he'd only admit it to you years later on a visit. You pulled out another key, then pulled out a box, and unlocked it. Hugo wasn't a nosy person. But...seeing the lengths at which you'd gone in such a short time during the war, he was a little curious at just how much information you had hidden away for the allies. In that box, no more than two feet across, he saw carefully folded notes, clipped to photographs, sketches, seeming to never end. In the blink of an eye, you snapped the box shut, and handed Hugo a  folded, handwritten note and a photograph. His eyes narrowed, and his knuckles went white as his eyes locked onto the photograph. "So  I was right..." You sighed as you sat on the bed, "You know him." Hugo looked up at you, and nodded slightly. You handed over the other scrap of paper. It contained an address, a phone number, and a few other details Hugo may have deemed useful. The nazi in the photograph was the one responsible for torturing Hugo when he was detained. That same nazi happened to be transferred to Paris just after Hugo's escape... and he happened to make his way into the club...regularly, every Friday and Saturday night. He often bragged about being the one to capture and torture the great Hugo Stiglitz, to your face... He slowly smiled again... He was going to sneak out, without a doubt.  You saw him to the door, and winked, "Habe Spaß," 'Have fun.' It was now Friday afternoon, and you had to go to the club to perform for the evening.
The basterds were a little reluctant in letting you go. What if someone followed you? Or what if- You immediately shut down all worries and disguised suspicions. "It'd be far more suspicious if I didn't show up, since I've been there every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening for the past four years, with no exceptions. That's how I've made it this far." Aldo nodded, then said, "Omar. Why don't you go with Y/n?" Omar nodded, "Yes, sir," while Hirschberg muttered "Are you fucking kidding me?!" After  you slipped into a long black dress, satin gloves, and shimmering heels, Hirschberg lingered by the door. "How do you do it?" "Do what?" You asked passively, as you slipped a deep red shade of red lipstick over your lips. "Do this job. Talk to them nazi fucks, and not blow their brains out?" Your heels clicked over the wooden floor was you down the hall, "I wouldn't get very far if I did, now would I?" "Huh..." He shrugged chuckling, "Maybe not in those shoes." "Mm," You smiled, resting your gloved palm against his cheek, remarking quietly with a smirk "Don't wait up." His heart melted, he sighed deeply with parted lips, watching you walk out the door. Omar walked out with you, and followed you to the club. Not closely enough for there to be questions, but close enough to get a good seat...for..."safety measures." The truth was, you reminded Omar of his kid sister. He got a letter, just before leaving England for France with the newly formed team of basterds, a year earlier. She'd gotten married, and Omar never forgave himself for having to miss it. She was so much like you, it kind of hurt him.  He didn't know much about you, and frankly, he didn't bother asking. It was a dangerous thing to do in these times. But it broke his heart, knowing you probably had a family waiting for you to come home, somewhere in the world, just like he did. Still, he tended to keep distant from you. For a moment, toward the end of your performance, there was a glimmer of a tear in the corner of his eye. For a moment, as you sang on that stage, you smiled just like his sister did, and it broke his heart. It was three AM by the time you were both back at your apartment, and he didn't say much. You didn't ask what was wrong. You knew soldiers, and you knew better. Besides, he seemed tired, and headed to bed right away. He didn't seem to notice the figure looming over the table with all the plans and information charted out. "Wilhelm?" You called out quietly, in case a few basterds had fallen asleep nearby. You set down your keys, and slipped off your heels with a breath of relief, and walked over to him, looking down at the plans, "What did we miss?" He shook his head, "Nothing..." He spoke sincerely, but you noted a twinge of worry in his voice. "You need some rest," you sat, resting the side of your face against your palm, and your elbow on the table. He shook his head again, "No matter how much we plan..." "You're basterds," you smiled a little, not understanding yet. "It'll work. It has to work." He spoke suddenly, which wasn't something he did often. "There used to be more of us," he sank into a chair beside you. "I see..." you looked at him, "Maybe I will never understand what it is to be a basterd. But...I understand what it feels to be scared of losing everything." He only raised an eyebrow, as he turned to look at you. You weren't just a singing spy in over her head. You had a story, as detailed, and mysterious as any of the basterds. In that moment, when he looked in your eyes, he felt as though he'd known you, at some time. And yet, you seemed distant. You smiled, "So the only thing we can do is raise the stakes." "What do you mean?" You shrugged, "I can make a few calls....figuratively." "To?" "A few Soviets. Andrei, Mikhail, Yura, Irina. They're all snipers. I can get some resistance fighters in, some rebels, some double-agents. I know people on the inside, that can get in with no suspicions. No questions asked." He smiled a little, beginning to feel a little relieved."You've already called them." He was half asking, half confirming. You smiled with a nod, "I was going to mention it in the morning." "Mention it?" He chuckled a little, "You really are the greatest agent I've never heard of." You laughed softly, "Goodnight, Wilhelm." "Goodnight," he smiled, as he found a place to sleep in one of  the guest rooms. You were only halfway down the hall, when you heard an odd sound. You slowly pushed open one of the doors, and found Donny sharpening his knives He hadn't noticed you walk in. "Keep it up, and you'll whittle it down to nothing." He smirked, and you asked "What's troubling you Sergeant?" You shrugged a little, "Didn't think that was a possibility." "And I didn't think you'd be as good of an agent as you are." "Hm," you laughed as you sat across from him, "No one ever suspects pretty ones like you and me." He'd been called every name you could think of, but pretty...well, that was not a common one. He put the knife down and you saw how tense he looked about the upcoming mission. By dawn, the basterds would be leaving. "What do you drink?" "Whatever you have, kid." You came back shortly with some whiskey, and your glasses clinked. For once, Donny was silent. But, he was calm now. You finished your drink, and said good night. But, before you slipped out the door, he said your name. You lingered by the doorway and he said, "Thanks kid. For everything." You smiled softly, "My pleasure." as you shut the door.
Though you weren't going with them, you found yourself as equally sleepless. If something went wrong, you knew you'd never forgive yourself. You'd hardly have time anyway. If something went wrong, you'd definitely be found out and executed. It wasn't long before you heard birds chirping outside. The basterds scrambled to get their things ready, go over the plan one last time, and say their thanks and goodbye. They slipped out the door silently, separately, and slowly,  as to not alert any neighbors. The very last basterd to leave was Smitty. He lingered by the door, and seemed worried. "What's wrong?" "What if they find out about you?" You smiled softly, "Oh, don't you worry about me." "If they find this," he gestured to all the files you had laid out, "If they know you helped us...they'll kill you... Or worse. I mean, what if-" "Well," you sighed, as you lit a cigarette with a peaceful sigh, "That's just the way it goes, sometimes." You'd come to that conclusion the night before. "But," he shook his head, almost as though refusing to say goodbye. "Oh..." You hugged him "Don't you worry about me, love." You smirked a little, "I have friends that'll take care of me." "But...what...how can you be so sure? How can you be so calm?!" "Like I said before," you shrugged, "If you want to survive this war, make yourself some friends." He nodded, with a half-hearted smile as he left. Before you closed the door, he turned back and asked softly "Are we...friends?" "You know where to find me," you smiled, letting him know you were the kind of friend that would get them through the war. As a matter of fact, they'd meet other contacts, rebels, and informants over the next few years. And every once in a while...just when they least expected it, that new 'friend' would  tell them you said hello. Far from the skyline of Paris, and any luxurious club, wandering the bloodstained wilderness, Aldo would always respond the same, but genuine way. He'd smile, and hold one of tin boxes of snuff you'd given him, and chuckle, "Well I'll be damned..." It wasn't until the war ended that you got to say hello yourself. It was a Saturday night. Paris was free. And it was your last night performing in that club. It was time you went home you thought... You looked out at the crowd, studying the faces of French, and other allied soldiers. You saw friends of yours, finally allowed to be at ease. You saw a face you hadn't seen since before the war. He'd written a review of a movie of yours, an undiscovered gem, he called it. His name was Archie Hicox. Lieutenant, now. And, you were thrilled to see a few more familiar faces by him. Bridget von Hammersmarck, of all people. And, of course, the basterds. You addressed the crowd, spoke in French, but didn't say goodbye. This was not a time to say goodbyes. All you said was that this next song was one near and dear to your heart. You sang Put the Blame on Mame, just as you had the night you met the basterds.  You couldn’t stop smiling as you sang that old familiar song. That night, it felt as though you’d never sang it before. You felt free, you felt more alive than you had before. And seeing those basterds again did it.  They couldn’t believe a spy with so much to lose like you could make it this far...but then again, basterds like them had made it to the end. In a way, they owed it to you.  At the end of your performance, the loudest cheers and claps and demands for an encore came from a table of basterds. What are friends for, after all?
