#i’m kinda SO over tumblr #it’s the last social media i have #and like i enjoy browsing my dashboard but the popular section and the for you section are so awful #and half my og mutuals are gone anyway #and i don’t like sharing on here anymore cause honestly i got nasty anons just for venting about my personal life on my personal blog #i think i’m gonna delete #i’ll re-evaluate tomorrow but i just don’t really see a point in sticking around #i hate the internet and i don’t want to be on it at all #and tumblr includes that #even tho there are some genuine people on here who i will miss i just think i need to commit to irl fully #i’ve been enjoying real life way too much to tolerate the shit i see here on a daily basis #i’m planning my wedding working on my house saving money listening to old records watching my favourite movies from when i was a kid #i just don’t want to come on here and read discourse between two 13 year olds in a cringy fandom #like all the power to the individuals who have been able to curate their feed just so but i just don’t care to filter out the bull shit #which is literally what all social media is #filtering out the bullshit ads and trends and ‘fake news’ and i’m so sick of the information over load #so anyways i probably won’t deactivate my account but if this post is 3 months old and i haven’t posted since it’s because i deleted the app #so goodbye and thank you and i love you and goodnight 💓🌟💕 #txt

FINALLY get to this one, aaaaaaa

I am still really really REALLY proud of this one. THIS is my favorite if not one of the best artworks I have made to date.

+30 hours of work put into this bad boy

It is here were I decided to try and spend a whole month (not every day, I took rest days) into one drawing to see how far I could get, testing my own artstyle and practicing backgrounds for once (having as a reference a video of a guy who whouldn't stay still because I don't have the game to take screenshots myself so I kind of had to imaginate how some objects whould look at specifics angels and I missed a few details in the room).

Now, taking a look over it I can see some anatomy/perspective mistake here and there but I don't really care, I still really like this drawing.

Publishing has always been a fucking nightmare, but now it’s a layer of hell. It’s not enough that writers be good at what they do. Writers have to maintain an active social media presence and cultivate a following. Be available.

They have to be conventionally attractive enough to look good enough to see on a screen, aesthetically pleasing, kind, funny, up-to-date on trends, socially aware but not so controversial that they turn off a brand from California from slapping their discount code on a video promoting a book.

They have to do all of this with no media training, with little help from the companies that are supposed to be doing this for them.

Of course, a lot of this isn't possible for say, the 40-something mother of two who teaches English at a school and writes on the side. She’s boxed out of an already complex industry that already has enough walls.

On some level, I think authors have always marketed themselves a little, but we’ve reached such a crazy point where we’re demanding the author become the influencer. Accessibility in publishing has narrowed from an inch to a sliver. And that inch was hard enough to get in as is.

#This is about traditional publishing but there’s pretty privilege and ageism in self publishing too #I can’t think of the last time I saw an up and coming author recording videos who was over thirty #And frankly that’s a shame #It could be that I’m not looking hard enough #but it’s more likely that algorithms are trained the way they are #truly I don’t think they should have to do any of that at all #And forgive me but (and I know it’s rich because I’m an artist on a platform) but art shouldn’t be at the mercy of an algorithm #Now there’s also something to be said about self publishing becoming easier and easier to achieve success in #And doors opening because of influencer status is real and makes publishing wider in a way #But that doesn’t mean it’s accessible #I’m not gonna plaster my health issues over the wall but that life is certainly not accessible to me! #are you healthy enough to write and make sure people on social media still want to like your stuff #are you mentally well enough to be your own pr #I’m sure people who have studied this have more to say and have said it better but this is what I’ve observed #writing #publishing #publishing industry

quick n easy list of gentle coping mechanisms for bad mental health days / neurodivergent understimulation episodes!! some are more applicable to one or the other but when i'm feeling particularly like a tiger in a too-small enclosure i find doing at least a couple of these things helps me so much

drink water. basic, but annoyingly effective

eat a snack. same as above

stretch! even just some laying down stretches like pulling on your arms and knees (in fact, here's a great tiktok series for "depression stretches" and workouts/physical stimulation you can do laying down/without much movement)

music/podcasts/video essays. your favorite playlist you haven't listened to in a while, a podcast you like/have been meaning to start (i listen to podcasts while i'm drawing!)

draw/color! if you don't wanna draw, a coloring book is always fun. i actually prefer kids' ones.

read a book. i prefer physical books bc i know i'll get sucked back into the social media scrolling for hours if i try to read on my phone. i also recommend a nice tea/hot chocolate/juice with this one.

video games. this can be anything from minecraft to destiny 2, but i usually never give myself time for these, even when i have it (stuck in that phone scrolling). a more action-packed game for mental understimulation, maybe a more mellow one for a bad depression episode.

shower. i am fully aware this tends to take a lot of spoons but even just sitting under running water ALWAYS makes me feel better when i can manage it. it also helps me with adhd overstimulation!

clean/organize. this sounds counterintuitive but i actually do enjoy organizing stuff for understimulation, and cleaner workspaces help with the depression. even if it's something as simple as "put all the pencils on the desk back into the pencil cup."

puzzles/brain games. this one is almost exclusively for mental understimulation but once i get going it makes my depression SO MUCH BETTER, TOO. my niche is getting myself some algebra sheets but this can be anything from math to jigsaws to crosswords to word searches!! some kind of problem solving that engages your brain and requires focus. this one is my favorite because i find it really grounding.

playing an instrument. this is in the same vein as the last one! again, my personal niche is the piano, but this could be any sort of thing. in fact this could even be substituted for some kind of alt hobby all together, like knitting or crocheting or something! again, mostly for understimulation, but gives me the serotonin boost to get through the depression stuff as well.
