S/o Loses Memory and Quirk
Kaminari Denki HCs
Genre: Angst
Warnings: Language, violence, mentions broken bones, a panic attack, panic attack symptoms, sad Denki
A/N: Ngl writing angst for Denki did something to my little heart. He only deserves happiness and I’m mad at myself for giving him sadness lol. Anyways, I hope you enjoy! I’ll be writing one like this for All Might next so keep your eyes peeled for that one!
Shinsou, Aizawa, Hawks, and Dabi
Todoroki, Bakugou, and Kirishima
Tumblr media
Kaminari Denki | Chargebolt
You are his partner in crime
You’re the one who is always there to take care of him when he goes dumb
You’re the one who is always there to comfort him when he feels like an idiot
You’re always the one who is there for him
And he’s always the one who is there for you
It’s been that way for years
Ever since you transferred to UA your second year of high school
The two of you became fast friends
Best friends even
And his flirty nature made it so it wasn’t too long before the two of you entered a real relationship
The two of you EXUDE the most chaotic good energy that even Bakugou finds it kind of endearing
But unbeknownst to his friends
Denki can get really fucking serious when it comes to you
It lowkey shocked you the first time you saw him act like that
And it was all because you were sparring with him and you tripped over your own damn foot and face planted
You figured he’d just point and laugh at you but he ran over and checked you EVERYWHERE to make sure you weren’t hurt
mans even SCOLDED you
YOU WERE SCOLDED BY DENKI KAMINARI
But you lowkey LOVED it because like
Wow
He does like me !!!
Of course that was in your final year at UA
The two of you are now pro-heroes at separate agencies
And boy oh boy does Denki worry about you
He can’t help it
He has seen you run into a wall because you were trying to rely on scent instead of sight “in case you get stuck in a dark room with a villain”
He worries
But he also knows you are strong
And also a hot badass who can take on anyone
Well
Almost anyone
Midoriya could probably kick your ass but that’s just because it’s Midoriya
But in all seriousness
He isn’t even patrolling today
He has the day off actually
And Denki has never baked anything before in his life
But
He knows that there’s been this mysterious villain giving your agency some trouble recently
So he wants to make you some of your favorite cookies
Or at least try to
And then have a lil movie night
He’s a clingy little shit
And he wants to destress you so
He will refuse to let go of you for the rest of the night goddamnit!
So there he is
Taking the semi-burnt but still edible cookies out of the oven
His favorite program on in the background
When suddenly
His show gets interrupted
And the hero scanner the two of you have goes off in your living room
He immediately turns his attention to the television
Stopping in the middle of the kitchen
Still holding the cookies
When he sees live footage of you falling from a 3 story building
Onto concrete
He drops the pan
And literally sprints out of the door
He doesn’t even have shoes on
But he doesn’t give a single Fuck™
He rushes down the stairs of the apartment building the two of you live in
And gets to his car in record time
Mans be speeding to the hospital he knows you’re gonna be at
You two had a plan in place with each other and your agencies that if anything would happen to either of you
You would both go to this specific hospital so you two could know where the other was at all times
Of course he was crying while speeding
And his heart rate was way too fast for him to be functioning
But he had to get to you
He had to
And he did
He pulled into a parking spot reserved for pro-heroes and ran inside the emergency room
When he asked about you the nurse told him you were currently in surgery for some severe bone breaks
He got a nasty taste in his mouth
But he just nodded
She told him he could wait in the waiting room
And he did
He sat down in a chair
And he was trying so hard to keep it together
So
SO
Hard
But eventually Kirishima, Mina, Sero, and even Bakugou showed up
To be fair
Mina and you did work at the same agency
So she saw everything that happened
They immediately went over to him
And he looked up at Mina
And deadass this is the first time any of them see how genuinely serious Denki can get
He asks Mina what happened
And she hesitates
But his face is dead serious
There are obviously tears leaking out of his eyes
But his stare is wildly intense
And Mina knows that if she says no he’ll just keep asking or ask someone else at the agency
So she tells him
“Well… we were patrolling, like usual, when that villain that’s been keeping us on our toes showed up. They’ve never… done anything other than rob people and knock them out so we thought hey this should be easy. Especially since (Y/n) was there. When they saw us they ran into a building and we chased after them and when we had them cornered on the roof they did this weird… sneak attack? But not really? I don’t know it was… odd, they had this like patterned fight technique and they hit (Y/n) in a few different places, and she went to use her quirk to fight back but… nothing happened… and then they hit her like at the bottom of her skull and she just… fell down unconscious. And then they… threw her… off…”
She started trailing off at the end because a sob tore through Denki’s throat
And then he started hyperventilating
Luckily Bakugou and Kirishima were there to help him out
They get panic attacks frequently, so they managed to calm him down and get him to breathe again
And they stayed with him for as long as they had to
Eventually after hours
A doctor came out and approached Denki
“Pro Hero Chargebolt?”
He stands up very fast
He’s informed that you are out of surgery
And that the surgery went well
However they noticed something odd in your MRI results
It seemed that a portion of your brain was damaged?
But not quite
It was still functioning
But something about it was off
And they had never seen anything like it before
It was like certain parts of your brain were blocked but everything else was fine
Upon hearing this Denki’s heart broke
And then after hearing the part of your brain that was impacted was the part that contained long term memories
His heart shattered
“We’re afraid she may have severe amnesia. We’re going to keep running tests to see just what is going on, we think it’s the quirk of that villain. A lot of the victims of their crimes have blockages in their muscle groups, but we’ve never seen a blockage in the brain from them.”
Denki is quiet
He literally doesn’t say anything
Until he whispers
“Can i see her?”
The doctor nods
And he leads him to your room
You’re still asleep
And you’re covered in bandages and casts
It breaks his heart
His friends texted him to tell him they went home but if he needs them at any minute that they will be on their way to the hospital in ten seconds flat
He appreciates it
But right now he really just wanted to be alone with you
He just sat next to you
Holding your hand
He was even moving your pointer finger to trace the Lichtenberg Figures trailing up and down his arms
You always do it when the two of you are cuddling at night
It helps him sleep
And reminds him that you love him regardless of his faults
And right now he just
He really needs you
This goes on for an hour before he feels you start to move
And he freezes
“(Y/n?”
You open your eyes
And squint at him
“Uh… h-hi… aren’t you that guy in my new class…?”
He stares at you
Completely deadpan
Before laughing a bit
But it isn’t a happy laugh
It’s very much a sad laugh
“Yeah. Yeah, I am.”
“Cool, but um… how did you know my name already?… Are you crying?”
Yes
He was
He was laughing and crying at the same time
He probably looked like he was losing his mind
But he really did just lose his whole world so
It’s a prompted reaction
“Yeah. Yeah, I am.”
His voice was more strained this time
“Are you… are you okay?”
“Yeah, but you’re not. And I didn’t save you, and now you don’t know who I am, and I’m just… I’m so sorry, babe. I’m so sorry.”
The laughing stopped
Now he’s just sobbing
In your mind
You’d seen him a few times while touring the school
And he was always laughing and smiling
Always
So this was shocking
And you’d be lying if you said it didn’t tug on your heart strings
You instinctively reach out to grab his hand
And he grips onto it so tight
Almost like he’s afraid of letting go
“…You called me babe?”
He tries to even his breathing
But he nods
“I don’t… I don’t even know you, I-”
“You do. You do, but… you don’t. It’s… it’s complicated and I’m a literal dumbass so… I’ll call a doctor. They’ll explain.”
And that he does
And the doctor does in fact explain
And after the doctor leaves
You ask him to tell you about your relationship
And he does
He tells you even the smallest details
From the time that you painted the nail on his right hand middle finger pink because he lost a bet and he ended up liking it and buying nail polish for himself
To the time that you two told everyone you break danced all night to break in your new apartment when in reality he turned on Lover by Taylor Swift and the two of you slow danced in your living room
All of it
And he even managed to slip in the fact that you’d remember all of this after he caught the villain who did this to you
And he will catch them.

Just want to say I ♥️ your blog & your writings!! That being said, I'd like to request a prompt where Shoto confess his feelings to Izuku, only for said confession to trigger Izu's unpleasant memories from his middle school days. (Think of the bad memories as/like the flashback prom scene from the 1999 film "Never Been Kissed") 'K, that's all I want to say. TYSM & ILYSM 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Ohmigosh thank you so much ILY2?!?!?! Of course, friendo - hope you enjoy! 💖💖💖 (I haven’t watched Never Been Kissed, but I looked up the scene for reference and changed a few things, hope that’s okay! :))
(Izuku, sweetie, I am so sorry for what I’m about to do to you, but it’ll be okay in the end I promise)
Izuku stared at Aizawa's back tiredly and sighed. Usually, he'd be scribbling away in his workbook at the mere prospect of learning more about the emergence of heroes, but he found that his heart just wasn't in it today.
He hadn’t slept much the night before and the quirk training that his class had completed last period was still on his mind, draining all of his energy in more ways than one. Not only was Izuku physically exhausted from it, but his mind was also reaching its wit’s end. Every time he closed his eyes, instead of strategies and new ways to adapt One for All, his vision was filled with very distracting images of Todoroki.
The two of them had been sparring partners for their training and it had started off great. Both of them had been performing quite admirably, he reckoned, until his crush had somehow managed to burn his shirt off again, causing Izuku to stumble on his feet for a moment. Eventually, he had managed to pin his friend to the ground, claiming his victory in front of the class, but it didn’t stop there. While his peers had let out a series of whoops, Izuku could focus only on the way Todoroki had gazed up at him, flustered and panting heavily; he looked like he wanted to tell Izuku something.
He was jolted out of his stupor when a clump of paper hit him across the face and fell onto his desk. Looking at the offending material with suspicion, he discreetly opened it to find Uraraka's handwriting staring back at him.
“Todoroki-kun is watching you.”
Izuku looked up to meet his friend's knowing eyes and scowled. Uraraka merely smirked in response and wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.
Unable to stop himself, he lobbed the paper back at her. The ball hit his friend square in the forehead, eliciting a surprised shriek from her. Izuku felt a little guilty when Aizawa turned to look at her, unimpressed, but that didn’t stop a smug grin from plastering to his face.
He then chanced a look back and found Todoroki gazing at him almost longingly. When they made eye contact, Izuku’s eyes widened and he quickly whipped his head back around, trying to ignore the heat flooding to his cheeks.
Todoroki-kun was watching me!
☀️🌙
'Deku-kun, you can't keep going like this!'
'I can, I shall and I will.' Izuku replied easily, gathering his things into his backpack. The last bell had just rung, prompting Uraraka to immediately bolt out of her seat to nag him about Todoroki.
'Come on! He totally likes you back! He hasn't taken his eyes off you since you straddled him in front of the class - not that he doesn't always stare at you, but usually he has more tact-'
'Uraraka-chan, stop. It's not gonna happen.' As much as he knew that his friend was only trying to help, he didn't like it. Uraraka was giving him hope and Izuku had learnt early on in his life that hope almost always ended in disappointment.
He sighed heavily. 'He doesn't even think of me that wa-'
Suddenly, someone tapped him on the shoulder and Izuku leapt several metres into the air with a shriek, promptly bashed his head on the ceiling and collapsed to the ground with a groan.
'Midoriya!' Todoroki knelt down beside him, his expression one of concern, while Uraraka's distant cackling could be heard in the background. 'Are you okay? I didn't mean to scare you.'
'N- No, it's okay, Todoroki-kun! Sorry for worrying you.' He accepted his friend's outstretched hand and pulled himself to his feet, dusting his clothes. Izuku then peered up at his crush to find him staring at his shoes, clearly nervous. 'What did you want to talk about?'
Pink dusted Todoroki's cheeks and Izuku had to restrain himself from outwardly cooing.
'Can we talk in private?' He rubbed the back of his neck, quickly glancing at Uraraka, who seemed to take the hint, for once.
'Okayyyy! Meet you two back in the common room!' As she bounced past them, she gave Izuku a knowing look and mouthed details later, before shutting the door behind her.
Silence fell over them then, broken only by Izuku's rapid heartbeat that was drumming in his ears. He watched as Todoroki shuffled on his feet and scratched his cheek out of habit.
‘I’ve been wanting to tell you for a while but I’m not very good with words, not like you are. I tried writing it down, practicing in front of a mirror - I even asked Yaoyorozu for help, but I don’t think it was very useful, so I gave up and tried to forget about it.’ Todoroki swallowed heavily and raised his eyes to where Izuku’s tie was. ‘But I can’t. Everywhere I go, I think of you; your smile, the way you can light up an entire room, everything about you is just so unforgettable.’
‘Todoroki-kun...’
‘And then we had that sparring session and you pinned me, but I wasn’t even mad about losing. All I could think about was the way you were looking at me. You looked so gorgeous and I felt so lucky. I wanted to tell you as much, but then everyone started cheering, so I didn’t, but in that moment I realised that if I don’t tell you, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life, so here it goes.’
Todoroki finally looked up to meet his eyes.
'I think I'm in love with you, Midoriya.'
Izuku's heart stopped.
☀️🌙
Before he could comprehend what was happening, someone grabbed his hand and pulled him into an empty classroom, shutting the door behind them.
Taking in his surroundings, Izuku turned to find Aina, a girl from his class that he had harboured a crush for, for a while now. She looked at him through heavy-lidded blue eyes. Immediately, a blush formed across his face and Izuku swallowed thickly - no one had ever looked at him like that before.
'Er… I-' His attempt to gain some insight into the situation was quickly stifled by his inability to speak without stuttering. 'Wha- How can I he-'
'I think I'm in love with you.' She suddenly exclaimed, passion laced in her voice.
Izuku blinked once, then twice… Then he scrambled to hide his face with his arms as the weight of the confession finally hit him.
'WHAT?!' He squeaked a little bit too loudly.
Aina relaxed a little bit and smiled softly at him.
'I said, I think I'm in love with you.' She stepped forward, now less than a metre away. 'You're so handsome and intelligent. I've had a crush on you since last year. I didn't want to say anything because you're too good for me, but I just can't keep it in anymore.'
Izuku took a step back, but Aina just took a step forward to counter him. 'I want to be with you. Please, Midoriya-kun!'
So many thoughts raced through his mind. Aina wanted to be with him?! Aina, who had guys fawning over her 24/7, who was smart and athletic, and had such a useful quirk that allowed her to create basic foods. She really loved him? Quirkless, useless Deku, who liked to mumble to himself and carry around notebooks full of information about heroes that he had never met? It was almost laughable.
‘But I’m quirkless.’ He tilted his head to the side in question. ‘I’m a crybaby who mutters to himself. You can’t possibly like me.’
Aina chuckled quietly at that, which further confused Izuku.
‘I don’t care if you’re quirkless - you have a big heart and that’s all that matters.’ She took another step forward; Izuku blushed at the proximity. ‘I love it when men cry and you’re not afraid to speak your mind. You’re inspiring, Midoriya-kun, truly.’
Izuku knew he shouldn’t believe her - years of developing a thick skin had taught him not to trust anyone… But Aina was looking at him with such sincerity that Izuku allowed himself to hope that maybe it was real. After all, he had always tried to look at things positively. Maybe it wasn’t too bad to allow one person into his life? Aina had never given him any reason to doubt her - she never picked on him like Kacchan and the others did.
‘Really?’ He whispered, tears brimming from the corner of his eyes.
‘Really.’ Aina replied. She rose to her tiptoes and wrapped her arms around Izuku’s neck, eliciting a small squeak from him.
So close!
‘Can I...’ Aina bit her bottom lip, a blush forming across her cheeks. ‘Can I kiss you, Midoriya?’
Izuku's breath hitched and, before he could stop himself, he nodded awkwardly.
Aina laughed and whispered, ‘Close your eyes.’
Izuku swallowed heavily and complied. His eyes fluttered shut and he waited, frantically trying to calm his breathing as his heart pounded against his chest. He felt Aina edge closer to him, until her breath fanned his face and he could smell her perfume. He exhaled shakily, parting his lips in preparation. However, before their lips could meet, his crush suddenly ducked to the side.
She chuckled and whispered into the shell of his ear. ‘Did you really think someone like me could love a quirkless freak like you?’
Izuku’s eyes shot wide open and his stomach dropped when Aina stepped back to smirk at him. She wasn’t alone though; while his eyes had been closed, several others, including Kacchan, had filtered into the room and were staring at him. Some glared at him with disgust, others sniggered with amusement, while Kacchan sneered at him with outright disdain.
‘I- I don’t understand.’ Izuku stuttered out, stepping backwards and knocking the back of his legs against a desk.
‘This is a lesson, Deku.’ Kacchan spat, while Aina grinned from his side. ‘Never hope for anything in your miserable life. You’ll never be a hero.’ He stepped forward. ‘You’ll never have friends.‘
He took another step; Izuku could see himself in the reflection of Kacchan’s crimson irises. ‘And you’ll never be loved by anyone except your poor mum who has no other choice.’
He set off an explosion in Izuku’s face then, knocking him back against the desk. The moment he fell, Aina called out ‘Now’ and the others in the room bustled to action. Before Izuku could comprehend what was happening, several eggs were thrown at him. The first one cracked against his chest, padded by his uniform, but when the next one hit, he wasn’t so lucky. A brittle shell cracked against his forehead, sending its runny innards trailing down his face and sealing his eye shut.
Izuku hastily tried to wipe the yolk away, but when another egg slammed against his left temple, he cried out and curled in on himself. Forgoing any attempts to clean himself or fight back, he crawled into a ball position and waited it out as several more eggs smashed against him, until his shirt was sticky and his hair was plastered to his face.
He wouldn’t cry though. He refused to give them the satisfaction. He panted to control his breathing and when his peers eventually stopped, he gingerly raised his head from his arms. He rubbed at his stinging eye and sat up to find Kacchan and Aina standing over him.
‘Have you learnt your lesson yet, Deku?’ The blonde spoke dangerously. Before Izuku could even open his mouth to respond though, Kacchan raised his arm and, using his quirk, threw his final egg at him.
It struck his nose with a crack and blood shot out of his nostrils. Izuku cried out then, the sheer power behind it sending him back to the dirty floor. Cracked shells dug into his face as he used the sleeve of his uniform to pinch his nose.
Aina bent down then and Izuku stared at her at best as he could with his one working eye. Any feelings he had for her had quickly transformed into a deep loathing that he had only ever felt towards Kacchan.
Blood trickled down into his mouth and Izuku spat it out onto the carpet, indifferent to the way it mixed in with the yellow yolks around him.
‘Anything to say?’ She asked, voice sickeningly sweet. When Izuku remained silent, she snorted, before standing up and following Kacchan out of the room. However, when they reached the door, she looked over her shoulder at him, her words echoing across the room.
‘You are nothing.’
☀️🌙
‘Midoriya? Midoriya, are you okay?’
Izuku sobbed into his hands, eyes squeezed shut as he crouched down. When Todoroki called his name again, the ghost of egg shells cracking against him tickled his skin cruelly and he found himself pushing his friend’s hand away when he tried to touch him.
‘You don’t mean that!’ He shouted, hating how wet his voice sounded. Why Todoroki? Out of all the people, why did it have to be him? Was this another cruel joke? Was Kacchan going to appear with the rest of his class and taunt him like last time?
'I do mean it.' Todoroki pressed, voice almost pleading.
'You can't!' Izuku grit his teeth and pressed the heel of his palms to his eyes. 'I trusted you! Why are you doing this?!'
'I- I'm-' His crush stuttered through his words, the hurt in his voice echoing that of Izuku's heart. 'I'm sorry. I just needed you to know-'
'You're lying!' Izuku exclaimed, tearing his hands away and looking up at Todoroki with red-rimmed eyes. Any other time and he would've quickly noticed just how distraught his friend was, but right now, his mind was plagued by the sniggering faces and humiliating taunts of his peers. He felt nothing but the ache of the purple bruises that had stained his skin for over a week after the incident. He thought of how he had opened his heart once before, only to have had it thrown back in his face.
He blinked as more tears escaped him. 'You don't love me! No one can love me. I'm useless Deku. I am nothing!'
'What are you talking about?' Todoroki frowned; a look of anger flashed across his face and he knelt down to look Izuku in the eye. 'That's not fair, Midoriya. You don't get to tell me how to feel. You don't have to like it, but I love you. Feel free to hate me, to push me away, to wish I was gone from your life forever, but do not call me a liar when I've never been anything but honest with you!'
Izuku froze at that. Memories of when he had finally told Todoroki about One for All came flooding back to him. He remembered how upset his friend had been at the prospect of Izuku not trusting him, how he had promised never to lie to Todoroki again. He remembered how his friend had promised to do the same, even though he had no reason to, and at that moment, Izuku finally realised how foolish he had been.
This wasn't Kacchan or Aina. This was Todoroki, kind, brave and caring. Todoroki, who had followed Izuku into danger more times than he could count. Todoroki, who constantly told him just how amazing he was.
Todoroki... Who had just told Izuku that he loved him.
'Fuck.' He muttered to himself, running his hands down his face. 'I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, Todoroki-kun. I wasn't- I didn't…'
'What's wrong?' Dichromatic eyes searched his own for answers. 'Please, Midoriya.'
'This has happened before.' Izuku admitted, wiping his runny nose with his sleeve. He took a deep breath and retold what had occurred all those years ago. As he spoke, he noticed the anger that had resurfaced on Todoroki’s face, albeit it was not directed at him this time.
When Izuku finally finished explaining, he exhaled and looked away, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. ‘Well, now you know.’
‘Midoriya-’ Todoroki began, shaking his head. ‘You- You know I would never do that to you, right?'
Izuku remained silent. Todoroki was right - he knew deep down that he had no reason to doubt his friend, but the nagging voice in his head didn’t care about logic.
Todoroki sighed heavily. ‘You’re my best friend, my first ever friend. I would never intentionally hurt you. I meant what I said before. I love you and we don’t deliberately hurt the ones we love. You taught me that. Be that as it may though, I understand that you don’t feel the same way about me and that’s okay. I can push my feelings aside for the sake of our friendship. Having you in my life is already more than I deserve-’
‘No.’ Izuku reached out a trembling hand and rested it against his friend’s scarred cheek. ‘I don’t deserve you. You’re- You’re amazing, Todoroki-kun, and I-’
He turned away then and bit his lip. It was silly - Izuku had always worn his heart on his sleeve. Why was it now so difficult for him to tell his friend how he was really feeling? He trusted Todoroki with his life, yet something was holding him back.
You’ll never be loved by anyone.
His vision blurred.
You are nothing.
A hand came up to rest against his own and Izuku’s head shot upwards to find Todoroki nuzzling his cheek against his calloused palm. Izuku stared unabashedly at his friend, at the way his jaw relaxed as he gazed right back at him, at the way his dichromatic eyes shone like the sky as the classroom light reflected off his brimming tears, at the way his cheeks were dusted a slight pink and radiated warmth from the contact, and at the way his mouth was slightly upturned as he urged Izuku to carry on, even if it meant rejection.
Todoroki’s courage inspired his own.
‘I- I love you too.’ Izuku squeezed his eyes shut. ‘Truly, I do, and it scares me. It scares me because so much could go wrong. Even if you’re not cruel like Kacchan and Aina, something else could go wrong and I don’t think I could take it if that happened.’
‘Don’t you think it’s worth the risk?’ Todoroki gently removed Izuku’s hand to intertwine their fingers. ‘There’s always a possibility of something going wrong - even if we weren’t training to be heroes. The one thing I am certain of though is that I would never hurt you. I would hold you and treasure you and there isn't a person alive who could stop me from caring about you.’
Izuku's body moved before he could comprehend what was happening. He threw himself forwards and tackled Todoroki to the ground, eliciting a surprised grunt from his friend. As they fell, he held the back of Todoroki's head to protect his crush from the hard floor, not minding the way his knuckles stung slightly from the impact.
'Todoroki-kun…' Izuku nuzzled into his friend's neck, warmth seeping into his very core when gentle arms wrapped around his waist. 'You truly are perfect. Nothing could ever stop me from caring about you either. I love you. I love you so much, and I'm sorry. I'm sorry for doubting you. I'm sorry for-'
'I forgive you.' Todoroki leant his cheek against Izuku's hair, arms tightening around him. 'You were scared. I know what that's like, but you helped me, remember? Let me help you.’
Izuku’s tears drenched his friend’s uniform, but Todoroki said nothing, instead rubbing soothing circles across his back as he sobbed against him. When his eyes eventually dried out and his voice was hoarse, Izuku finally pulled away to look down at his friend. The view was oddly reminiscent of their fight from earlier.
‘Can… Can I kiss you, Midoriya?’ Todoroki asked, raising a hand to cup his jaw.
Izuku smiled down at him, before nodding once. He had had crushes before, but nothing compared to how he was feeling right now. Todoroki wasn’t just some crush, he was his friend, and Izuku would do anything for him without a second thought.
‘Yes.’
Todoroki flashed him a soft smile, before gently guiding Izuku’s head down, lifting his own to meet him halfway. Izuku met soft lips and he felt warmth that he hadn’t known was possible. Their noses bumped together and neither of them seemed to know what to do next, but it was more perfect than he could have ever imagined because he was kissing Todoroki.
‘I love you.’ Izuku whispered against his mouth, relishing in the way Todoroki let out a breathy laugh in response before pressing another kiss to his lips.
Yeah, hope led to disappointment most of the time, but nothing about Todoroki could ever be disappointing to Izuku.

Summary: After you experience danger firsthand, you're not the only one in need of comfort. (Midoriya Izuku x Reader, angst, hurt/comfort I guess)
Warnings: uh it’s written kinda panic attacky, vague descriptions of assault, kidnapping, etc.. reader got kidnapped for a week and they’re not super okay.
Word count: 700+
~
"Let's leave them alone for now," someone says, and a fleeting moment of panic reaches your face before you realize they're saying “them”. You can relax if they promise not to leave you alone.
You spaced out again. Of course you did. How are you supposed to focus on the conversation at hand when mentally, you're still stuck in that room?
Even Izuku can't seem to keep your attention for long. It's nothing he's doing or failing to do, but...
Dark room fixated on a sliver of light you're alone but not for long you're alone you're alone you're—
Between thoughts or any time your attention is immediately grabbed, it's there. Deep down, you're still stuck, quirk cancellers digging into your wrists, ropes uncomfortably tight, but at least they're busy, you're alone—
A warm hand, tentative and gentle, brushes over your arm just enough to announce its presence, and you flinch, when you get out of these restraints you'll—
"[name]," Izuku says firmly. "I need you to breathe."
"Sorry," you say hurriedly. "I'm— it's—" You sigh, forcibly setting your mind on your current surroundings in an attempt to stay present. You're sat in a hospital bed. Bandages litter your skin, your legs most of all, in almost perfect symmetry, the man was obsessed with it, certain every injury you received was mirrored perfectly, save for the gauze taped to the back of your hand, a remnant from the IV you'd apparently had while you were still asleep the past few days, a much needed respite, you couldn't sleep before, if you sleep you don't know what'll happen before you wake up, if you'll still—
"I can't... I can't," you finish halfheartedly, unsure what you even mean. You can't? Can't what?
"I don't want to freak you out," Izuku says evenly, a cocktail of emotions in his eyes as his hands wait on his lap. "Is it okay if I touch you?"
You open your mouth to respond, close it, open it again. Eventually you have to settle with a small nod. You're being ridiculous! This is Izuku! He once hit you hard enough to bruise by pure accident during training and spent the next month apologizing for it! He cried the first time he actually knocked you off your feet during a sparring session! He won't hurt you. He's not them, staring hungry, angry, proud at how defenseless you are—
The hand returns to your arm, palm flattening against the skin and running over it soothingly. You latch onto the small ridges where his hand is scarred, the feeling of them brushing against your skin among the rest of his hand, and feel yourself coming down. This is fine.
"I-I was so..." Izuku lets out a shaky breath, bringing his other hand up to leave comforting touches on your skin. "You were just gone, you know?" A stray tear, one of many pooling in his eyes, slips down his cheek. "A-and you slept for so long, I..." He struggles to hold back his tears. "Sorry, I'm supposed to be the one comforting you here, I just—"
"Izu-kun..." You reach your arm towards him, flinching back when his eyes flick to your hand. "I'm... You..." You gape for a moment, struggling for the right words, any words, really. Finally with a sigh, you manage to settle. "I-if it's you, I think I can handle a hug, and I think we both need it, so..."
Green eyes search yours for a moment, questioning, and when you give him the tiniest nod, he's up out of his seat, practically tackling you in a bone-crushing hug, and that's about when it finally hits you.
You're okay. You survived and you're alive and it's over—
You wind your arms around him, leaning into the hug and turning so you can put your whole body into reciprocating. Hot tears hit your cheeks, not to mention those hitting your neck as Izuku buries his face in it, and the two of you tremble in tandem. The tears slip down your cheeks silently as you bury your own face in Izuku's neck, taking in his scent.
"You're safe, you're awake, you're here," Izuku mumbles into your skin, doing his damnedest to cuddle into you. You can't tell who his words are for, you or him, but you accept them wholeheartedly.
"I'm here, I'm safe, I'm home," you whisper back before finally, finally allowing yourself to break. You might still be stuck in the hospital, but as long as Izuku's here, you're home.

Arbany had met Bakugou during the June of their first year in high school, meeting each other for the first time when her school Shiketsu High bumped into his. The impression they left on each other wasn’t the best. She remembered him as the foul mouthed, egoistic boy with a superiority complex, and he saw her as a good for nothing brat with one too many words and nothing but a dumb set of wings.
She had managed to knock him off his pedestal after she received her hero licence before he had and it sparked rivalry of sorts, Bakugou vowing that he would never lose to her again. They had stayed in contact after Kirishima asked for her number, adding her to a group chat with himself, Bakugou and a few more of their friends.
Soon, unbeknown to any of their other mutual friends, they had began to text privately, and she often found herself rushing to the phone whenever his special notification sounded. They would often take about modern day affairs, the latest updates on well known heroes and villains, and sometimes they would open up and talk about themselves, asking each other for advice on certain things or how their day went.
It wasn’t long before Arbany found herself developing a massive crush on him. Sure his attitude was brash and unnecessarily rude, but that didn’t mean he was a terrible person, in fact he did care a lot, and she supposed he just tried hard not show it for some odd reason or another.
They would meet up regularly, normally at places that were a few train stations away from their houses. The distance between their schools wasn’t incredibly big, but it did take at least an hour to get to one place from another, so they compromised with spots in the middle. On specials occasions, when it was their birthdays or a pubic holiday, one would wait by the school gates of the other.
This led to their classmates noticing and hence teasing them about each other. On Arbany’s side, her face would flush, ears light pink as her friends made comments about shipping them whereas on the other side of town, Bakugou would scream threats as his friends laughed.
Eventually, they started dating. It was a few weeks into the second year and Bakugou had asked her out during a picnic in a field with a wreath of fresh flowers that he had hidden in his backpack and a necklace. It was cheesy, and he was embarrassed the entire time, his cheeks dusted with red, letting out small curses every now as then, but he decided the massive smile on who was now his girlfriend’s face was worth him putting down his ego and taking the first step.
In the following autumn, Arbany had transferred into his school for the last year, after her parents moved for their jobs, she decided to finish off her second year at Shiketsu before joining her parents closer to UA. She was understandably upset at leaving behind her good friends, however being with her boyfriend of nearly a year and also his friends, who she was pretty close to as well, helped cheer her up significantly.
“Arbany!” Mina called, waving her over to the side of the gym. She walked over, pulling on her sports jumper as Aizawa began telling them of today’s training lesson. It was a 1v1 spar with no quirks and he gave everyone the choice to choose a partner.
“Are you going to spar Bakugou?” Mina asked.
Arbany started, “Possibly I-” before cutting herself off as she watched the blonde stomp towards Midoriya.
“Fight me Deku.” he shouted.
She laughed slightly, shaking her head before turning back to Mina. “I think I’ll choose someone I rarely train with.” she said, to which the latter nodded.
“Alright, you better not loose!” she cheered before walking off. Arbany looked around, catching sight of Todoroki standing alone.
“Hey Todoroki!” she called out, smiling as he turned around. “Would you like to be my partner?”
He nodded politely, before the pair began walking to an empty marked area of the hall. Her physical skill was only a few hairs short of Todoroki’s, him often catching to smallest openings and attacking. She stepped back in a wide stance, bringing her leg up which he blocked, before jumping up and swinging the other leg. He dodged, stepping backwards as she swung up, about to land a punch when a sudden large explosion sounded.
“The hell?” she jumped back, whipping her head around to see a large charred dent in the floor of the hall.
“Bakugou! This is a no quirk exercise.” Aizawa shouted, using his scarf to hold the younger boy back from continuing to attack Midoriya. “Are you alright Midoriya?”
She felt a small pang of guilt. Maybe if she had spotted Bakugou’s increasing anger towards the other boy, then she could have possibly prevented this. Maybe she should’ve payed more attention to her own boyfriend.
“I’ll take him to nurse’s office.” she offered, walking towards the boy and pulling on his arm.
“It’s alright I’m fine.” Midoriya protested, shaking his head but she tugged on his arm again and he followed without much more complaint. In the background she could hear Bakugou screaming at her to leave the damn nerd alone but she simply ignored him.
After leaving the hall, she slowed down her pace, letting go of his arm. “I’m sorry about Katsuki, I’m not sure why he even thought something like that would be acceptable.” she sighed, rubbing her forehead as Midoriya awkwardly chuckled.
“It’s not your fault don’t worry.” he reassured her.
“No it’s not.” she huffed out frustrated, “but maybe I could’ve talked him out of pulling something like this.”
Midoriya shook his head. “I think we need to sort it out between ourselves.” he said. “There’s no need to blame yourself Arbany.”
She nodded and sighed, stepping into the nurse’s office after him and looking around for any burn ailments.
Bakugou was seething. He detested the thought of his girlfriend together with the only person on earth that he utterly loathed. As soon as class ended, he rushed off to find Arbany, spotting her near their classroom and pulling her to the side.
“Why are you hanging out with the damn Deku.” Bakugou asked.
She sighed, grimacing. “I was not ‘hanging out’ with him, I went to treat him for a burn that you caused.” she answered, pointing a figure to his chest.
“He could’ve easily taken care of that himself.” he muttered.
“No Katsuki. He could’ve easily not been hurt at all if you just learn how to grow up.”
He could feel himself shaking with anger as he clenched his fists. “What the fuck do you mean I need to grow up.”
“Katsuki you are literally an adult next year, stop acting like a child towards someone who literally hasn't done anything to deserve this hate.”
“So you’re defending him now?”
“Yes! Yes I am because I think you’re being utterly unreasonable.”
“I don’t get you. You’re my girlfriend and yet-”
“Exactly! I’m your girlfriend and you should listen to me when I tell you what you’re doing something wrong. I care about you and that’s exactly why I’m not going to condone this behaviour.”
“But he’s just a fucking loser-” He stopped shouting to hold his head with his hand, rubbing his temple. “Look, I didn’t pull you over for a fight.”
“Well I’m not sure what you expected pulling a stunt like that.”
“Look I can explain-”
“You literally attempted to kill him. For what reason? Because he’s your rival?”
“No because-”
The sound of a phone ringing cut him off. “Hold on, let me take this.” she said, side stepping away and bringing the phone up to her ear.
“Hello? Arbany speaking.”
“Hello Arbany, you are being requested for a case.”
“Alright, I’m coming right now.”
“Mirio is waiting for you at the front gates.”
“Thank you.” she said before hanging up the phone, turning around. “Listen I’ve got a job now, but don’t you dare think this conversation is over Bakugou Katsuki.”
“Wait- Arbany!”
She ignored him, rushing off back to the classroom to gather her bag before running down the hallway and stairs. She stopped at the bottom of the stairs, telling herself to stay calm as she slowly counted to 10 before regaining her composure. “You’re okay Arbany, you can do this.” she said to herself, pushing open the main doors and quickly walking to the school’s front gate.
“Mirio!” she called out, a smile plastered on her face as she threw her bag in the back seat and climbed into the passenger’s seat.
“Hey Arbany.” he replied, throwing her and earpiece before starting the engine and speeding down the road as she put on her seat belt, catching herself with her hand as the car lurched forward.
“Woah, slow down or you’re going to hit someone.” she laughed, securing the piece around her ear.
“I’ll be careful, but today’s job is really urgent.” he said, and she grimaced at the lack of a single hint of humour in his voice.
“Well that sucks, who is it?”
“The League again.” he sighed.
“Seriously? I’ve never met them before.” she answered, a pang of excitement hitting her as she was finally going to face the area’s most infamous villains.
“Really? They’ve been all over your class since first year.”
“Oh damn. I transferred this year so I guess I missed all of the fun stuff.” she answered.
“Well, I wouldn’t say fun.” he replied with a small laugh. “Your boyfriend did end up kidnapped for a good few days.”
She huffed at the word boyfriend and this caused Mirio to loosen up and actually laugh for one time in their journey. His usual upbeat self was incredibly tense and Arbany noticed as soon as she heard his less than enthusiastic greeting. “What did he do this time?”
“Arh.” She put her head in her hands before looking back up and staring at the traffic light. “I don’t even know, he just acts like a child like oh my fucking god Katsuki you’re turning 18 next year and you’re still trying to kill this poor bean over some childhood superiority complex.” she ranted, throwing her hands up in the air, hitting the car’s ceiling by accident.
“That sounds like him.” Mirio laughed, turning the corner, them both now spotting a massive colour of smoke.
“Well shit.” she cursed, tightening her grip on her seat belt as she saw a few people running away from the general direction. “Care to brief me in on which fucker might have done this?”
“Most likely Dabi.” he replied. “He’s the most active member who has a fire quirk. Just a warning, they may possibly have nomus.”
He pulled over to the side of the road, a sticker on his car’s windscreen showing that he was okay to do what would have otherwise been illegal parking. She got out of the car, running towards the scene. “Damn I don’t even have my hero suit on.” she complained under her breath, jumping into the air and with a flap of her wings she was above, looking down towards the scene.
“[hero name] here reporting for duty.” she called out after turning the ear piece on.
“Alright Arbany, your job is to make sure all civilians are out of the area.”
“Understood.” she answered, starting by doing a massive lap around the burning building with her wings. Spotting a pair walking towards it’s general direction, she swooped down and guided them to another route, before flying back up.
Getting closer to the building her eye caught sight on a fairly unburnt rooming, severely out of place considering the entire building was up in roaring flames and smoke. She slowly made her way to, realising a fairly young woman had been using her quirk to fireproof the room, but visibly growing tired. Arbany banged harshly on the window, getting no response as the woman remained leaning against her bed, almost motionless apart from the slight turn of her head, her eyes widening at the fact that someone had noticed her.
Arbany landed on the balcony, stepping back before swinging her leg up and shattering the window. She reached inside and unlatched the door, walking in hurriedly and placing her hands underneath the woman’s knees and back.
“Are you alright miss?” she asked, lifting her up and exiting the building.
She closed her eyes, a faint smile on her lips. “Thank you...”
“It’s alright.” Arbany replied, dropping to the ground at the sight of an ambulance, passing the woman over to a health worker. “Have some rest.” she said before jumping back into the air.
Before she could even travel another few feet, something at an incredible speed knocked into her from behind, sending her shooting down into the ground. “Fuck!” she screamed, wrapping her wings around her as she plummeted into the concrete.
“Arbany? Are you alright?” her ear piece sounded.
“Oh my fucking god.” she cried out, standing back up with a wobble and turning to see a massive lump of muscle and flesh flying in the sky. “Holy shit that thing is ugly.” she snorted, rolling back her shoulders to ease the tension as she most likely had to face that thing.
“That’s a nomu. Try not to engage in contact.”
“I think it’s a bit too late for that.” she responded as it started flying down towards her at a rapid speed.
“We’re sending another pro hero your way. Stay on your toes until then.”
“Alright.” she answered, focusing her mind on the incoming nomu and trying to stop it with her telekinesis. It slowed down considerably, no longer a blur in the sky, however she knew that once it reached her, even with a swing of it’s arm, she would be toast.
She couldn’t take her eyes off it otherwise he telekinesis would cease to work, so slowly she flew back into the air. The nomu changed it’s direction of path and sped towards her. She watched it intently as it grew closer and closer and by the time it was arms distance, she forced all of her energy onto it. It slowed down even more, and with that, she flew up, waiting for it be directly underneath her, before hardening her wings and burying them into it’s muscles as knifes.
It let out an ear piercing howl and with that she focused her telekinesis onto her leg, giving it extra as she stomped downwards on the nomu’s body. It started falling almost instantly, yet in that minuscule time frame, it had grabbed onto her ankle, pulling her down as well. With a shift of it’s body, it launched Arbany down towards the ground with it’s immense strength.
“Fuck.” she screamed. Her wings couldn’t catch any updraft of air so she resorted to encasing herself in her wings again. She hit the ground with a massive crash, the things around her becoming debris as she lay still in the dent in the ground.
In the quick seconds this had all occurred, she had forgotten to unharden her wings. She groaned in frustration at her stupidity as she felt an overwhelming pain in her side.
“Well fuck I might be out of commission soon.” she announced, roughly pulling out one of her feathers out of her side and tying her clothes tightly around the wound.
“You can stop Arbany, Endeavour has made it to your area.”
“I’m gonna keep helping until I can’t move anymore.” she muttered, standing up slowly as she winced at her side wound. She fell in pain as she stretched out her wings. Her wings were indestructible yes, the bones in them could never break, however that didn’t mean the rest of her body was too. The muscles connecting her wings to her back had been severely injured in the fall.
She felt utterly useless. She was a combat hero as much as a rescue one but she had essentially failed at both tasks. She watched as the nomu burned up in flames, still rushing towards Endeavour in a rage. With the last part of her energy, she focused and stopped most of it’s movements, and he sent another fire attack it’s way. With it unable to dodge or even shake out the flames, it slowly burnt up. She guessed this one was the regenerative type the others had encountered before.
With a small nod, satisfied at her help, she leaned against a wall and said “Alright well I’m gonna take a quick nap.”
“Arbany you are still in the battlefield, open your eyes right now!” She winced at the shouting in her ear and grumbled.
“Fine fine, I’m leaving.” she slowly started limping away, her hand on the wall to steady her and she made her way back to the main road. Spotting the ambulance again she stood up straight to walk over, missing the curb and falling flat on her face.
She felt fatigue wash over her as she rested her head on the concrete. Her head was spinning uncontrollably and she closed her eyes shut, hearing people running over to her as she slowly faded away.

“Kacchan I’m guessing you’re going to visit Arbany right now?” Midoriya asked as Bakugou strolled into the kitchen.
“What?” he scowled, turning his attention to the other boy with a glare.
“Wait you haven’t heard?”
“Do I look like I have Deku? Fucking spit it out already.”
“R-right, Arbany’s in hopsital after the villain attack by the-”
“Are you fucking with me Deku? I swear to god.”
“N-no I’m not!” he quickly answered, shaking his head before getting out his phone and turning to the most recent screenshot. “It’s on the news.”
Bakugou snatched the phone off him, his eyes squinted as he hurriedly read the small test. “Fuck.” he said, tossing the phone back to him absentmindedly as he rushed out of the kitchen, grabbing someone’s random jacket that was rested on the couch before running out of the door.
He sprinted all the way to the front gate, propelling himself with his quirk. He stopped at a main road, waving down a taxi aggressively before jumping inside and demanding they go to the nearest hospital. He tapped his feet impatiently as the drive there felt so agonisingly long. His eye watched digital distance measurer and calculator, pulling out what he assumed to be more than enough cash.
“Just park here.” he demanded as the hospital came into view.
“Sir I can’t-”
“Just fucking park here.” he shouted, the timid guy agreeing and stopping the car. He slammed the cash onto the dashboard before bolting out.
“Sir your change.” the driver called out.
“Keep it for all I care.” he shouted back, not sparing another glance as he ran into the hospital, knocking into a few people and almost colliding with a few more.
“Arbany. Arbany [L/N]” he said at the front desk as he almost started shouting at the receptionist for how slow he felt she was going.
“Second floor, room 214.” she said and he nodded, rushing to the elevators.
“Please refrain from running in here.” she called out from behind him. “This is a hospital, not a playground.”
He disregarded her words, pressing the up button multiple times, watching the floors come down to the ground, stepping in and pressing the 2. He soon reached her room, knocking before entering. She sat up on the bed, grimacing slightly as her side throbbed.
“Fucking hell, what were you thinking.” he said, sitting down next to her. His words were harsh but she could hear the genuine worry in them.
“Funny thing right, I did this to myself.” she chuckled, pouting when he didn’t show any reaction to her lightheartedness expect sighing.
“You idiot. Do you know how worried I was when I heard that. And if was from that nobody Deku as well.” he rubbed his eyes, his lips drawn up in a tight grimace.
She kissed her teeth. “Yeah, we’ve got to sort out what problem you have with Midoriya.”
“Fuck that brat, don’t think you can just change the conversation topic. What the fuck were you doing out there to get you landed in this bloody hell.” he threw his hands up, but his tone remained worried, making sure not to raise his voice at her.
“I’m a hero Katsuki, of course there are going to be injuries now and then.” she reasoned.
“I know.” he breathed out. He knew too that it was inevitable. They were both aiming to be pro hero and such a path like that wouldn’t be smooth sailing. “I know, I just...”
She stayed silent, not rushing him to go on as she wrapped her fingers around his. He clasped her hand in both of his, bringing them up to his head as he looked down at the bed. “I was scared.” he whispered.
Her heart melted at his words. It was almost never that someone like Bakugou would put down his pride to admit something like that. She reached over with her other hand, stroking his hair as he continued. “They wrote about you as if you were in some life threatening condition.”
She giggled. “That’s the media for you.”
“I, I thought I might lose you.” he said. She felt him shaking and pulled him towards her, wrapping her arm around him.
“I’m not going to leave you, you dummy.” she assured him. “I promise.”
He pulled back, flicking her on the forehead. “You better, otherwise I’m gonna follow you to hell and beat your ass.”
“Hey!” she pouted. “Who says I’d end up in hell anyways.”
“Pfft, and you’re going to heaven then?”
“Yes!”
“In your dreams.” he snorted.
She laughed at him before they fell into a silence, fiddling with his fingers as he simply just stared her.
“What’s up sweatpea?” she asked, tilting her head to the side and trying to read his expression.
“I love you dumbass.”
“Ew gross.” she laughed as he glared at her. “I’m just joking, ow! Don’t hit me I’m injured.”
Leaning back on the bed and away from him, she stuck her tongue out. “Say it back.” he demanded.
She squinted her eyes at him. “Are you sure you’re not the injured one Katsuki?”
He huffed and crossed his arms. “Fine then. Be like that.”
“I’m kidding, I’m kidding oh my god.” she rolled her eyes, leaning forwards to peck him on the lips.
“I love you too, you baby.”
If it wasn’t for her being injured, he might have blown her to pieces in sheer embarrassment.

BNHA Fic: Blink! Ch. 21
Read Ch. 20 | Masterlist
SPOILER ALERT: This dives into the Redemption Arc and the spar where Midoriya finds something new about his quirk.
Tumblr media
With the commotion calmed down three days later, classes resumed as is for the heroes in training. Ren popped by the Support Department after class to pick up her bangles. It took Hatsumei a lot longer to figure out the schematics since it’s not one of her creations. She had to do a lot of research and tweaking based on the upgrades Ren wanted. Loosely grasping her now crimson red with chrome gray striped bangles, her hands shook with excitement in wanting to try them out.
And tonight was a solo training session with Bakugou. He was already in his winter gym uniform and looked irritated upon entering Void.
“Something the matter, Bakkun?”
“Stupid Deku and his–” He immediately stopped and held his tongue, realizing he almost let slip of their secret.
“His…?”
“Idiot asked me to spar and decided last minute he wasn’t up for it,” he covered up. She gave him a suspicious hum of her voice and didn’t press him on it. Adjusting the bangles on her wrist, Ren flexed her hands and stretched them out.
“You got your weapon back?” Bakugou asked while stretching his legs.
“Two point oh beta, baby,” she boasted and flashed the new accessories at him with a toothy grin. “Made some adjustments from the original, but I won’t use all of them tonight.”
“What, you think I’m not good enough for you to use it?” the spiky ash blond boy spoke with a tone of offense.
“Now, now,” she soothed. “You never reveal all your cards in poker, right?”
“I’ve never played,” he flatly answered and crossed his arms.
Ren tapped her bangles together and it formed her usual T-batons. Testing the weight of it, she threw one at Bakugou and caught it successfully. His eyes then widened a bit after feeling it in his hands.
“This has gotta be, what, 11-12 kilograms?” he estimated. “You fight with this?”
“I asked Hatsume to up the weight capacity on it from 4.5 kg so I can hit harder aerial attacks, but not lag my speed when I use my quirk.”
“So you can use gravity and fall momentum to up the damage for you,” he figured out. “Surprisingly clever, even for someone like you.”
“Was that an insulting compliment coming from the great Lord Explosion Murder?” Ren taunted, holding her hand up to her ear. Sero and Kaminari mentioned in passing about their hero names.
“Shut up, dumb ass.” He smirked and threw one of the batons back at her, to which she caught effortlessly. “We gonna do this?”
“Tonight’ll be good practice for you to fight against weapons.”
Ren twirled her baton a few times to get the feel for it and got into position. She put the ends together to form the staff.
Bakugou readied himself by popping off a few explosions in his palm. His opponent launched herself at him as he barely managed to get his guard up on time; his right arm trembling from the impact of her staff. Shaking it off, he knew he had to get a leg up on her in the offensive before she strikes again. Not letting him get the advantage, she lunged at him and the two were locked in close quarter combat, exchanging blows.
As long as they’ve started this sparring deal, the ash blond spiky boy noticed she’s begun to take more of the initiative to get the first hit thanks to his and half-and-half’s constant drilling. Her old hit-and-run style annoyed him to no end only because he couldn’t get a clean hit on her. But when he did, oh boy, did he feel good about it. Not only did she have good reflexes and awareness, she had a foresight advantage over him based on her maneuverability.
In short, Bakugou couldn’t helped but be impressed by Ren.
She was strong.
And a tough opponent to take down.
With Ren coming at him again with another attack, he timed his Stun Grenade in hopes of throwing her rhythm off, only to see her vault above him in an instant with the help of her staff. Smirking from above, she used the smoke from his attack as camouflage and suddenly felt his legs swept from below him with something solid upon the gray veil dissipating. Falling straight on his back with a thud, the R.A. shifted her knee to his chest with one end of her staff pointed at his face. She looked down at him with a triumphant smirk.
“You really know how to make a girl sweat,” she panted out and got off of him.
Bakugou, not wanting to let this chance go to waste, grabbed her by the ankle and dragged her down on the floor. Knocking the wind out of her from her stomach, he managed to pin her down both her wrists with his knee putting moderate pressure on the small of her back in one swift move. Her staff rolled away from reach.
He leaned in dangerously close to her from behind, catching a whiff of the faint green apple shampoo mixed in with perspiration. Dark crimson eyes stared deeply at her side profile.
He softly spoke into the shell of her ear, “If you’re gonna get me down like that, at least finish the job.”
Releasing her from his grip, he got off and reached his hand down for her to grab. Accepting the gesture, Bakugou pulled Ren up with a bit too much strength and ended up having her directly onto his body for cushioning. She could practically feel every developed muscle on his chest. They were definitely much more chiseled than Todoroki’s.
“If you’re gonna cop a feel, at least treat me to some food first,” he teased, prompting her to quickly get off of him with a look that made her press her lips thinly into a line and lightly blushed. Deciding to distract herself from his commentary, she walked off to pick up her weapon to revert them back.
Ren glanced over at her sweaty sparring partner curiously. Feeling her eyes on him, he looked at her in confusion.
“What?”
“Can you… make explosions anywhere else on your body?”
“My quirk can only be activated in the palms of my hands.” He looked down at his left land. “Which is why I have storage items with my hero costume when I need that extra firepower.”
“Oh. I was thinking if you were able to ignite the other sweat glands in your body, your X-Catapult attack would be so much more overwhelming,” Ren thought aloud, remembering when he tried out the new move on her during one of their spars. “Maybe Support can build you an item, like a jet pack to up your mobility?”
“You’re yammerin’ on like target-eyed tech geek,” he noted with a cocked eyebrow.
“Well,” she shoved her hands into her pockets. “I did originally apply to U.A. for Support and General Studies.”
“Huh?” Bakugou’s ears perked up like he was hard of hearing. This person, who he acknowledged as strong wasn’t gunning for the hero course from the start? “You’re joking, right?”
“I was in a different mindset at the time,” she lightly chuckled with an embarrassed expression and scratched her nose bridge. “I thought my quirk would be applied more practically there. But Aizawa-sensei and a few of the examiners got me in the hero’s course through their recommendations based on my exam performance.”
“Because you tried beating up three pro-heroes when were a bratty kid?”
Ren let out a hearty laugh at the memory and lightly shrugged.
“Maybe they saw potential. Who knows?”
Rotating her right shoulder to get rid of a knot, she tapped her bangles again and they formed into T-batons again. She turned her head with a curl of her lips, as if she was planning something devilish.
“Go again?”
“We’re just getting started.”
After another hour of sparring, the two exited the Void and ended up back in Ren’s room. Feeling the cool air hit the sweat of their skin, visible goosebumps could be seen forming on her arm.
“Head downstairs first.”
“Don’t tell me what to do.”
“Unless you wanna go together and have the whole class see us all sweaty from doing god knows what,” Ren joked. “I’m sure your buddies will get a kick outta makin’ fun of–”
“Shaddap!” He growled out in frustration and threw her door open with his cheeks tinted pink.
Changing and washing her face, she headed downstairs to see 1-A mingling with 1-B in the common area. She could see Todoroki talking with Midoriya about something in the dining area and Bakugou was already helping himself to dinner.
Ren mingled with the groups without effort, with the exception of Monoma trying to goad her with his insults, to which she immediately shut down with Dark Ren’s threat of “being quite proud to be around strong first years” and wondered if he wanted to see a one-on-one Plus Ultra session with her fists.
Snow greeted the U.A. campus for the first time for winter. Several students of 1-A were super excited to play in it while others preferred to hang in the warmth of the common area. Today was also the last day of the provisional classes for Bakugou and Todoroki. Ren left motivational post-it notes on their respective dorm doors in the morning before heading down for breakfast. With some free time on her hands, she played sous chef to Sato with a cake, smiling to herself. While the pastry was baking off in the oven, she killed some time by working on her knitting.
“Oh, a new one?” Kirishima perked up with excitement. “What are you making this time?”
“A simple scarf...” she replied while keeping up with what stitch she led with in the current row for the moss stitch. “But this pattern’s pretty tricky. I have to remember what stitch I lead off to alternate.”
“I never expected senpai to be so domestic given her temper,” Mineta commented aloud after coming back in from the snow, only to have his footsteps stop midway from a thick aluminum needle sticking up in his path.
“Wanna try that again, Mineta-kun?” she calmly spoke with dark intentions. “Or shall I string your balls outside to a tree and see how quickly hypothermia sets in for you.”
About another hour passed by before the two newly licensed heroes returned, with All-Might behind them. A shout of congratulations were directed at the two, with Bakugou being his usual self-boasting punk. Ren peeked her head up and ran up to the suited teacher. The two exchanged hugs and engaged in conversation about Melissa and David, briefly touching base on what was going on with them currently.
Staying a little longer than he intended to, All-Might said good night to the students and she rejoined them. The cake Sato and Ren baked cooled down just enough for them to decorate it to celebrate the two failures in finally passing the provisional exam.
As everyone ate, the two mentioned fighting a group villains en route back to dorms, much to no surprise to everyone. Kaminari jokingly remarked Bakugou’s presence attracts trouble, to which the latter threatened to blow his ass to Mars. With the cake ingested and everyone relaxed, the resident alien emerged with a soft black bag in her hands.
“Now that everyone is here!” Ashido loudly announced. “It’s time to pick your Secret Santa!”
“And we decided the budget for the present should not exceed 5,000 yen!” Iida dictated. “Please keep in mind of what you buy is appropriate for students! And you must keep the name to yourself.”
“Okay, now line up and grab your name!” the pink girl gleefully hopped around as 1-A grabbed a piece of paper out of the bag. When it was Ren’s turn, Ashido leaned into her ear and said, “Senpai, there’s something I wanna talk to you about after this.”
She turned up with a curious gaze while Ashido’s had one of ulterior motives. She got her paper and walked away to open it.
It was… not a name she was expecting. Such is the nature of the Secret Santa.
With the names drawn and the celebration finished, Ren headed to Ashido’s room as requested. She happily greeted her senior and invited her in. It was a very surprising shade of shocking pink and animal print.
Tumblr media
To her surprise, Jiro, Hagakure, Yaoyorozu and Asui were already there and settled in.
“I call this meeting to start!” Ashido announced happily.
“Where’s Ochaco-chan?” Ren asked.
“Well that’s the thing...” Yao-momo started. “It’s kind of about her.”
“Did something happen?” she asked with a tone of concern and sat on the floor with the group.
“We wanna set her up with Midoriya-kun!” Hagakure revealed.
“And we know he has a thing for her too,” Ashido added. “With the way he blushes when she talks to him.”
“I think… he does that with any girl he talks to,” Ren casually remarked. “He’s a bashful boy.”
“Not with Ochaco-chan,” Asui pointed out. “He always seems… different with her. I genuinely think he respects and likes her, ribbit.”
Ren let out an uncomfortable groan and moved her mouth to one side out of concern, commenting, “I usually let stuff like this happen naturally. Dunno how I feel about setting them up...”
“If we let them take it at their pace, it’ll never happen,” Ashido reasoned with an exasperated tone and rolled her eyes. “We’re just here to... push it along, is all.”
“Fair point. What do you intend to do?”
“All you need to do is get mistletoe,” the pink girl responded with a devious grin. “We’ll take care of the rest.”
“’Take care’ how, exactly?” their resident advisor asked out of absolute interest.
“Our plan is to set up a bunch of games for everyone to play and pair them up ‘coincidentally’,” Jiro proposed.
“That… sounds like a terrible plan. Even shojo manga have better tropes than this.”
“Well, what do you have in mind?!” Ashido blurted out from annoyance. “You talk like you know how to go about this.”
“Ren-senpai is the only one out of all of us who’s had romantic experience,” Yaoyorozu reasoned.
“I dunno how true that statement is, but you can’t make it so obvious you’re trying to set them up. They’ll catch on quickly,” Ren indicated. “You have to let some chaos in there and get their feelings riled up so they realize their own for one another.”
“Damn, that’s a really good point,” Ashido remarked with admiration and cupped her chin. “What do you propose?”
“You let me take care of that,” the pink-haired girl briskly replied with a playful smirk. “I have a bit of a reputation of causing pandemonium.”
“As expected of Ren-Ren,” Jiro happily blurted out. “Can we get any ideas?”
“It’s up to me to know and for you to find out,” she teased paired with a smirk and winked at the earphone jack girl.
“Ohh, I never thought Ren-senpai could be so devilish!” Ashido declared with excitement.
With the holidays and the end of the semester around the corner, the teachers were cramming in harder lectures and plus ultra level quirk training. In their mindset, time was not on their side, considering they have zero intel as to what the League of Villains were planning. At the same time, they are still kids and should enjoy whatever peace they can enjoy. Things like that was always a delicate balancing act in U.A.
Tumblr media
Catching wind of Todoroki and Bakugou’s heroic efforts 30 minutes after getting their provisional licenses, TV casters came by the Alliance Dorm to interview the two boys. It was basically them being their usual selves: shouting and stoic. The class couldn’t help but look on helplessly at this disaster, considering this was the third do-over. The newscast also interviewed Ren with her recent take down of the quirk boosted villain when she was in Musutafu with the bi-colored haired boy. The pink haired girl calmly answered their questions with enough detail they couldn’t follow up with anything.
In the end, they cut Bakugou completely out by the time it aired, to which the hot-headed blond ground his teeth in anger. Given the disaster of the interview, U.A. decided to turn it into a teachable moment; Mount Lady was invited in as a guest lecturer in teaching the young heroes the fine art of dealing with the media.
With a rare free day between everything, Ren managed to run out to buy decorations for the party with Ashido, Iida and Yaoyorozu. As much as Ashido wanted to buy up all the mistletoe at the party supply shop, Ren managed to convince her one was enough to draw away suspicion and stay within budget. Returning back to the dorms, the resident advisor ran an English tutoring session with 1-A; Present Mic had been increasing the difficulty of his lessons and the students are struggling with grammar and certain usage of phrases.
After study group was over, it was time for her extra sparring sessions; tonight was with Kirishima. The roaring red head was happy to join in to take a break from hitting the books. Tonight’s training consisted of him hardening different parts of his body as he’s being attacked to increase his reflexes and timing in activating his quirk. Ren struck the redhead in several part of his body with her staff and increased the speed as time went on to test him. As time went on, Kirishima couldn’t keep up with her speed and got beaten down.
“You’re activating it based on anticipation rather than instinct,” Ren huffed out and wiped some sweat off her forehead with her arm. “Hardening at this point should feel natural.”
“I know! It’s just… !” He growled out with frustration and slammed his fist on the ground with a dull thud. “My brain knows where you’re moving, but my body reacts too late!”
“In the words of Bruce Lee: ‘Don’t think, feel,’” she advised. “Try reading my movements and predict it from there.”
Repeating her actions from before, the spiky redheaded boy put his full concentration into each of his maneuvers, trying to sense a pattern from Ren. As she sped up, he managed to keep up with her longer than he did the first time around.
“Good!” She encouraged as she increased the frequency and strength of her attacks. “You’re keeping up!”
Tumblr media
Gradually, her attacks got quicker and harder, testing his proficiency in changing his limbs to the Unbreakable form. As he got impatient in getting beat down, Kirishima attempted to use Red Counter on Ren, only to have her back away the moment he tried to strike.
“Excellent...” She smirked and withdrew her weapon. “I’ll make you a sturdy shield just yet.”
Her sparring partner panted heavily and squatted down to recover his energy with sweat rolling down his gleaming muscular body. His body heat exuded out in the form of steam.
“Man...” he gasped between breaths. “I never realized how much stamina this takes outta me just hardening certain parts to just guard. If this was a real fight, I would’ve been done for already.”
“Not with me, you won’t,” she firmly stated with a hand on her hip. “We’re just getting started. This is your first step in surpassing Crimson Riot, Kiri-kun.”
His inspired red eyes looked up to meet hers as an overwhelming flood of pride bloomed in his chest.
“Osu!” he shouted with oozing adrenaline.
Reverting her staff back to her bangles, she rolled her shoulders and cricked her neck while she walked to the far end of the room to continue their sparring.
“Kiri-kun, can I...try something on you?” she asked quickly.
“Y-Yeah! Of course!” the boy perked up and got up off of the floor.
Ren turned around and tapped her accessories together twice and formed something different this time.
“You can’t tell anyone about this, okay?” she stated in a serious tone. “It’s a prototype right now.”

I got hit with a pretty bad episode last night while I was filling job applications. It’d been a little bit since my depression had flared up like that. Almost a month now I think? Anywho... it was rough, as it always is, and I decided to write to try to make myself feel better. Though it ended up just being pretty angsty. I dunno, it at least helped a bit to get my frustrations out on paper. And it’s helpful for me to acknowledge how self-destructive hiding these feels can be and has been in the past. So yea... thought I’d share it now that I’m feeling a bit better.
Trigger warning: depression
Something wasn’t right. After all, you were usually one of the first to antagonize and pick fights with Bakugo. But now… you just sat on the couch, quietly laying on the couch and staring off into the distance as he stomped into the common room. “Move it!” he barked.
Midoriya was pretty quick to notice, having been bracing himself for the inevitability of you two bickering. But when it never came, he looked over to you and took in how out of it you seemed to be. It was concerning to say the least.
“Hey! Are you listening to me!?” Bakugo shouted as you continued to stare past him. “I said move!”
Silently and without looking at Bakugo, you got up and began walking away. Though this only seemed to irritate him more. “Don’t ignore me!” he shouted after you, sparks flying as he clenched his fists.
Midoriya stared, a frown forming on his face as you left the room. What was weighing so heavily on you? Maybe you were homesick? This was the third week since moving into the dorms and the initial excitement of it had begun to die down. Almost everyone had begun to notice how strange and hard it could be to be living away from home. But even so, you seemed especially down.
~~~~~
Closing your door, you laid down on your bed as a couple of tears escaped. You managed to fool everyone well enough during school. But now, living in the dorms, you felt like you never had a chance to just breath and relax. Keeping up this charade was getting exhausting.
You didn’t want to worry anyone, but you also envied those who so constantly wore a smile. People like All Might. Present Mic. Mina. Sero. All of them seemed to be happy constantly. Why couldn’t you be like that? Why’d it have to be so hard to feel happy every once in a while.
It was stupid really. You had everything you could possibly want. Admittance to the school of your dreams, or at least what people said should be the school of your dreams. Plenty of friends and loving parents. A badass quirk. But all the same, it was a chore to even get out of bed in the morning which also fed an acute sense of envy towards Mr. Aizawa for getting to constantly carry around that damn sleeping bag.
You couldn’t even count the number of times you’d wanted to join in as he’d laid on the ground and say fuck to everything and anything. But you didn’t. You always pushed on and pretended like everything was fine, wearing that stupidly fake smile for everyone around you.
That was why you antagonized Bakugo so much. The frustration that slowly built up from having to pretend needed some sort of outlet. And the only thing that seemed to work was sparring with someone who wasn’t afraid to go all out. And when Bakugo got angry he didn’t hold back. So, naturally, you’d taken to picking fights. Honestly, it was the only thing that really kept you going anymore.
But you knew you had to be stronger about this. Nobody could find out. How could you possibly be seen as a hero if people knew how weak and pathetic you truly were. How could you help anyone when you couldn’t even help yourself?
Knock, knock.
Glancing up, you looked towards your door. Sighed and sat up as you wiped your eyes. “Just a minute!” you chirped, standing up and walking over.
Quickly you turned on the lights and opened the door. Smile plastered on your face, you peered out at Midoriya. “Hey, what’s up?” you asked.
“Is everything alright?” he asked, catching you off guard.
“Y-yea!” you laughed, smile widening. “Why do you ask?”
“You… seemed kind of down out in the common room…”
Shit. With how tired and apathetic you’d become over the day, you hadn’t really thought of the repercussions of just blowing off Bakugo. Especially in such a public place. Someone was bound to notice. What a rookie mistake.
“Ah... I’m just tired is all...” you lied.
Midoriya stared, unconvinced by your words. Sure, it was plausible that you’d be tired with all of the training and work you were all being put through. But something wasn’t sitting right. Even after the roughest of training sessions, you’d never turned down a chance to rile up Bakugo. So why now?
“Are you sure?” he pushed. “If something’s bothering you, you can-”
“Everything’s fine, Midoriya,” you grinned. “I promise.”
Staring, Midoriya nodded slowly. “If you’re sure…” he said. “But if you ever want to talk, just know I’m always willing to listen.”
You nodded, doing your best to keep your smile up. “Thanks, I’ll definitely keep that in mind! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go take a nap. Have a good one.”
Nodding, Midoriya smiled and turned to walk away. “You too, _____!”
Smile fading, you shrunk back into your room and closed the door. Slowly, you sunk to the floor as tears made their way out. You wanted to take his offer so badly but at the same time… you couldn’t bring yourself to do it. The fear of being seen as weak and a liability on the battle field loomed over you. You’d worked too hard to have everyone find out now.
