so dragon’s dogma once again took over my brain and i replayed it. also decided it’d be fun to make a lil chart of how the game world works. made a few assumptions (like where great dragons come from if an arisen kills their dragon but doesn’t fight the seneschal and the fact that i’m assuming the cycle can’t be broken by using the godsbane on yourself at the end of the game regardless of what is presented to you). i’m also assuming the dragonforged fought, lost his weapon, and fled which is why there’s an option for fighting the dragon but not killing it.
love this game a lot. can’t wait for the sequel

the true ending is definitely more impactful if you’re familiar with the first game which I appreciate so much

"I must confess, ever since I set out on this pilgrimage, I feel... Somewhat adrift."
Letting the quiet sounds of the Hostelry wash over her, Lihtbryda makes a noise of understanding, taking a mouthful of her drink and watching Gosetsu over the rim of her cup.
"It's only natural. You've spent your whole life taking care of Lord Hien, and now you're freed from that duty. It must feel like a mountain has been lifted from you," the mercenary replies, looking out over the railing of the balcony to the street below.
"Ha! Very true. A great mountain, more weight than I ever thought I could bear. But... a weight I miss. Is my Lord doing well? Is he keeping pleasant company? Is he getting enough rest?"
Staring into his cup, the Doman falls quiet for a few seconds before shaking his head. "Bah! Here I am with a woman such as yourself and I can only speak of my past. Tell me, is the talisman I gave you any help in controlling your heat?"
Touching the slip of paper around her neck - already smouldering at the edges, but suppressing her temperature to bearable levels - Lihtbryda is about to answer when a shimmer of Aether at Tenkonto catches her eye, and she grins, nudging her companion.
"It looks like you're going to be able to see what kind of company he's keeping."
Sure enough, materialised into Kugane is Lord Hien himself, arm in arm with a pale-haired Hyur.
"The Kami bring serendipity indeed," Gosetsu muses, "but I would not wish to intrude on his time with his lady friend. Besides, I believe you promised a trip to the springs?"
Getting to her feet and throwing a handful of coin on the table, Liht smirks. "Indeed. Come on, we'll find somewhere quiet."

Thinking about Fae lore for my stories and how fae are highly allergic to iron... so came up with some special metals they might use for for various means. Sure we've got normal copper, silver and gold but these specially treated metals are Deluxe Metals (and also not the same as the metals that inspired them) Springwater copper is a special kind of copper found under waterbeds (such as lakes , creeks, and rivers) in Álfheimr. It doesn't corrode with exposure to air or water and is harder, more similar to steel. The Spring and Autumn courts use it the most as it is lightweight and easy to shape into tools and armor good for flying long distances. Aurelin is like if gold worked like it does in games. It's very conductive like regular gold, so the Summer Court find it especially useful for sun forging. The metal is created through treatment of raw ore - first by letting the sun shine on it from the end of spring to the summer solstice - after which its magical properties are heightened - and then forging it in a volcano's heat. Fire-aligned Summer court fae are able to heat blades and armor made with this metal in combat, but the metal is fairly weighty and difficult to fly for long periods of time with. Aurelin coins are also used as a currency on Álfheimr, made by the Summer Court's minting house. Moonlit silver is found in deep caverns, where no light from the stars can reach. It must be carefully handled before it can have light touch it, as light will corrode it and destroy any magical properties the raw ore has. Most mining and treatment is done during the new moon, and the first light after treatment is the full moon. Thus, moonlit silver is especially rare due to its fragile initial state. It's high conductivity for magic makes it valuable for divine artifacts such as staves or metal threaded mage robes.

Lihtbryda began once they all had their mugs in hand. "We'll sing all night and drink all day..." Trailing off, she looks meaningfully at Gosetsu, a grin on her face.
Guffawing, he shakes his head, pausing for a moment to remember the song he heard sung around campfires by armsmen from far away. After a few moments, he grins, taking up the next line.
"...And on the girls we'll spend our pay!"
Without missing a beat, Akimune picks up the song from his father, a grin on his face.
"And when it's gone, then we'll away,"
All three voices raised in unison, they raise their mugs in a salute, bellowing together,
"To dance with Jak o' the shadows!"
The trio each take a pull of their ale, laughing, before launching into the next verse in harmony, their song echoing from the stony cliff walls for hours to come.
(Akimune belongs to @blorbos-of-the-7th-dawn! They and I are starting a Gosetsu Appreciation Fanclub because we both have taste.)
