What is the importance of graffiti/street art?

In an urbanized context as that of a city, it is almost inevitable that the social structure and economic hierarchy will create a disparity among artists. Art is a form of expression- a fundamental right which cannot be limited to the so called ‘upper classes’ of society.

Graffiti and other forms of street art provide artists a medium to express their thoughts which often reflect and resonate with that of the neighborhood, having multiple benefits.

A well allocated area for street art can significantly raise not only the economy of the area but also create employment opportunities if an initiative is taken by the Government.

Refurbishment of worn out buildings with help of street art will only add to the aesthetics of the neighborhood.

If an initiative is taken to legalize street art many countries, it will see the rise of multiple artists whose talent has been bowed down due to the social makeup of many countries.

It is a chain of 500 watermelons that unfolds with the artist in the middle, like a woman and a man in a world that is continuously spinning without us actually intervening (even though it is a filmed performance and therefore staged). ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ You will notice the watermelons that are cut in half as a red reminder of Creation, nativity, life and even nationality, as I feel it here. The artist is situated at the precise level of these watermelons and she is naked as if she had just appeared, without make-up, to the world. The Dead Sea is also one of the lowest in the world and a sea where we can be weightless 🪁 ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ I like to feel here the salt of the water and the sugar of the watermelon, which is both a fruit and a vegetable, and to see the artist, as a woman, blending naturally with her environment. The impression is soft and so feminine to me. What are the current trends in contemporary art?

I'd say one of them is installation art. Many artists don't feel it is enough anymore to just show sculptures or paintings. The complete experience seems to be really important. Audiences also seem to enjoy installations much more.Another one is what is known to me as "Research art" or "Artistic Research". It really is a trend, especially here in the Netherlands. It is an enormous attempt to make art more theoretical. But to me it is also a just as enormous attempt to make art look more serious and important. I think this really is a reaction on the lack of sympathy people have for art here. So as a consequence, more theoretical courses are offered on universities for artists. To make it look scientific.

Contemporary art trends also involve non-traditional media such as:- 1) Natural and physical sciences. 2) Industry 3) Technology 4) Popular culture 5) Words, literature and poetry. Contemporary art often confronts global issues, including economics, politics, illness, sexuality, race, human rights and war.
