Everything I watch in Jan 2024

I was going to post my annual everything I watched in 2023 post but I feel like I missed my opportunity, so here is my everything I watched in January 2024... (Be Warned there are some spoilers, I do try to mark them throughout the review)

My Lovely Boxer (2023, Kim Min-joo)

Main leads: Lee Sang-yeob, Kim So-hye, Park Ji-hwan, Kim Hyung-mook, Kim Jin-woo, Ha Seung-ri, Chae Won-bin

Country: S. Korea

Run: August 21 to Oct 2, 2023 (KBS2, Monday and Tuesday @21:45 (KST))

Episodes: 12, 70 min

Thoughts: Lee Kwon-sook (Kim So-hye) is a boxer who is forcibly thrown back into the world boxing that she has retired from by a sports agent Kim Tae-young (Lee Sang-yeob). I really liked how they balanced the characters. Lee Kwon-sook is a cheerful girl who is constantly haunted by her past. And she is allowed agency to do what she can do, despite the efforts of others. And the relationship between Lee Kwon-sook and Kim Tae-young, though slightly toxic, works in an odd way. I did have problems with how they reconnected her with her father.I personally wouldn’t have forgiven him. However, I loved the relationship with Han Ah-reum, and just how that story ends. I thought it was done very well. Overall I have really enjoyed this drama. Rating:

Unlock My Boss (2022-2023, Kim Hyung-min)

Main leads: Chae Jong-hyeop, Seo Eun-soo, Park Sung-woong

Episodes: 12, 60 min

Thoughts: Oh wow, this is more enjoyable than I imagined. Chase Jong-hyeop as Park In-seong is so fun. He is adorable, down to earth but capable. Jun Se-yeon (Seo Eun-soo) was amazing and I loved her complexities as a character. And the trio of Kim Seon-joo (Park Sung-woong), Park In-seong, and Jun Se-yeon, was so fun and I loved the little family they formed. I literally cried so much during this show for no reason. Like the zoom into the phone literally made me sob each time for no reason. Rating: Who knew electronics can have that much range?

Night Has Come (2023, Kang Min-Ji)

Main leads: Lee Jae-In, Kim Woo-Seok, Choi Ye-Bin, Cha Woo-Min, Ahn Ji-Ho, Jung So-Ri

Country: S. Korea

Run: Dec 4,, 2023 ( U+mobiletv)

Episodes: 12, 35 to 40 min

Thoughts: This started off really good. A class gets thrust into a mafia game to the death. You along with the characters are wondering who is the mafia among the students and who is forcing this game. It is really interesting, but the episodes follow the same pattern. The end you find everything out, and it's kind of stupied. They had a classmate who committed sucide due to a badly edited image of herself on a skimply clad woman’s body. Which is yeah bad. Then her parents take revenge on the whole class. They are placed in this mafia simulator to repeat the game over and over again. It ends with Lee Yoon-seo able to remember everything, but still trapped in the simulator. Like where their parents are. People must be concerned right. Rating: Sisphyus boulder, I guess…

The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract (2023-2024, Go Nam-jeong)

Run: Nov 24, 2023 to Jan 6, 2024 (MBC TV Friday and Saturday @21:50 (KST))

Episodes: 12, 70 min

Thoughts: This was a cute drama. It starts off with a cute romance between a progressive woman in Joseon and a sick scholar. However, it quickly becomes a tragedy and she is sent to the year 2023 with her hand maid Sa-wol (Joo Hyun-young). It quickly becomes a fish out of water for Park Yeon-woo (Lee Se-young), but luckly she meets the recacrante of her late husband Kang Tae-ha (Bae In-hyuk) and they make a deal. It is a cute drama and I loved the cast of characters. Yeon-woo is easy to root for. Sa-wol is adorable, and adapts quickly. Kang Tae-ha is prickly but has a heart of gold. It's dramatic and fun. It's nothing special, but oh is it so good. My favorite part is Yeon-woo and Sa-wol’s relationship. Literally there is a scene with those two that reflects a romantic scene in Perfect Marriage Revenage (2023) which I can’t stop thinking about. Overall I just really enjoyed my time. Joseon Attorney: A Morality (2023,Choi Jin-young)

Main leads: Woo Do-hwan, Bona, Cha Hak-yeon

Run: March 31 to May 5, 2023 (MBC TV Friday and Saturday @21:50 (KST))

Episodes: 16, 70 min

Thoughts: This was a lot like Taxi Driver. In the way you have an episodic feel with a charismatic male lead seeking revenge and helping people. I had a lot of fun with this show, and I don’t use the comparison lightly either. I really had fun with it. The romance was okay, but I liked the different stories, and the main revenge plot was easy to follow along with. Woo Do-hwan is a great actor and meant to be a leading man. It's definitely not my favorite and there are a few things that needed changing but it was fun overall! Rating: Who do you call?... Joseon Attorney!!!

Run: OCT 14 to Dec 16, 2023 (KBS, Saturday 21:50 to 22:50 (KST))

Episodes: 10, 60 to 80 min

Thoughts: This is a yearly anthogolgy series that follows various characters in various time periods with various goals. I thought a lot of them were really cool and interesting. “Love Attack” was by far one of my favorites, but I also really liked “The True Love of Madam” which was shocking for me. It was also hard to find any subs for “Overlap, Knife, Knife” so I had to rely on visual cues and the small amount of Korean I know. But I thought this was a fun anthrologie series, and the stories are fun and fresh. Rating: I love getting short and quick stories like this, its the reason I love short films so much.

A Good Day to Be a Dog (2023-2024, Baek In-ah)

Main leads: Park Gyu-young, Cha Eun-woo, Lee Hyun-woo

Run: Oct 11, 2023 to Jan 10, 2024 (MBC, Wednesday 21:00 (KST))

Episodes: 14, 70 min

Thoughts: Apparently it is very different from the webtoon ( which I have never read), but I found it entertaining. It is cute and lighthearted. I always like when its past lives, I think it adds a fun element to romances. Though I do think the schedule of the show hindered my enjoyment, because it would be so long between episodes. They also lost me at the end, I can not lie. Rating/Spoiler: Also I would be so angery if I found out my family curse passed down for generations was over a misunderstanding. I would want an apology, reparations, and revenge. On another note, I would also be so pissed if I killed myself to save my servant's baby; then my boyfriend finished off the dying father, then cursed the child and its offspring. I would be pissed, like my scarfice was for not. Go off mountain spirit I guess…

My 20th Twenty (2023, N/A)

Main leads: Choi Yu Ju , Jung Su Bin

Run: April 21 to may 27, 2023 (Wavve, Friday and Saturday)

Episodes: 12, 15 min

Thoughts: This show was good for what it was. It has the vibe of a college student film with a mix of those youtube series made by middle schoolers back in 2009. And I mean that with the highest praise. The sound mixing was off, they had limited cast (background actors is what you are looking for), no interesting lighting (but very well light- i.e the student film vibes), and the actors new to the scene. I loved every motherfucking moment. It was so cheesy, the script was bad, and nothing made sense. But I knew that it was made with passion. Rating: It would be horrifying being 20 forever

Taxi Driver Season 2 (2023, Oh Sang-ho)

Main leads: Lee Je-hoon, Kim Eui-sung, Pyo Ye-jin, Jang Hyuk-jin, Bae Yoo-ram, Shin Jae-ha

Thoughts: Back in action the second season is so much fun and entertaining. I actually like it better than the first. And I said this once and I’ll say it again Lee Je-hoon is made to be an action star. He’s as great as Kim Do-gi. I also liked that Ahn Go-eun (Pyo Ye-jin) had a larger role this season. I also just love the friendship in the Rainbow Taxi service. Just so fun. Rating: imagine being taken down by a taxi service…

Thoughts: This was fun seeing the cast reflect on the episodes and their characters. Its also cool just seeing a reply of everything that happened. You could tell how much Lee Je-hoon loves playing Kim Do-gi. Rating: I am excited for the 3rd season…

Brain Works (2023, Park Kyung-seon)

Main leads: Jung Yong-hwa, Cha Tae-hyun, Kwak Sun-young, Ye Ji-won

Thoughts:This show is weird. I think most cop shows are weird but this one especially. I did like the bromance in this, between Shin Ha-ru (Jung Yong-hwa) and Geum Myung-se (Ch Tae-hyun). I did think neuroscience was weird and defies logic. The only good thing about it was when they didn’t completely vilify Pyschopaths, because it tends to be more complicated than the mainstream likes to show. It still left a lot to be desired but it was there. Also when he lowkey kidnapped and torture that kid, oh my god, like he was a little punk and deserved to go to trail but my god. Rating: This is lowkey giving Minority Report tbh…

My Cuteness is about to expire!? (2022, Tanabe Shigenori)

Thoughts: Maruya is your typical male narcissist who works in sales. He uses his cuteness to stake by in life, to make up for his average skills. One day he is visited by his future self, whom he deems ugly, tells him that his cuteness is going to expire. He decides, after relizing his crush, the only way to prevent this is to date Sanada, a robotic newbie to the sales team. It is cute and Maruya and Sanada are fun as a couple, plus if you have the time you could watch this in a day. Rating: I’m Ichinose calling every single person every 10 seconds sobbing…

My Dearest Pt 1 (2023, Hwang Jin-young)

Main leads: Namkoong Min, Ahn Eun-jin, Lee Hak-joo, Lee Da-in, Kim Yoon-woo, Lee Chung-ah

Run: August 4 to Sept 2, 2023 (MBC TV, Friday and Saturday 21:50 (KST))

Episodes: 10, 60 to 90 min

Thoughts: I was not expecting to like this more than I did. The angst in every episode is so insane. Episode 10 was actually unbearable. I also want to take a moment and appreciate Yoo Gil-chae (Ahn Eun-jin), she is such a complicated character. She would do anything for her friends, she is willing to do the things that no other women (noble) are willing to do even during times of war. She will stab the man assualting her friend and cover it up. She would cut the amicable cord, she would stab the mother’s hand. She isn’t pure of heart, she neveer claimed to be. I love her so much. And her relationship with Lee Jang-hyun. The ending of episode 10. I was sobbing. Rating: I am trying to hype myself up to watch the next 11 episodes, people had to wait inbetween…

The Escape of the Seven (2023, Kim Soon-ok)

Main leads: Um Ki-joon, Hwang Jung-eum, Lee Joon, Lee Yu-bi, Shin Eun-kyung, Yoon Jong-hoon, Jo Yoon-hee, Jo Jae-yoon

Run: Sept 15 to Nov 17, 2023 (SBS TV Friday and Saturday 22:00 (KST))

Episodes: 17, 70 to 80 min

Thoughts: This was an insane ride. Literally no one in this likeable except for a few, like I didn’t think Min Do-hyuk (Lee Joon) was as bad as the others but oh lordy. It is so melodramatic, which took me off graud for some reason. Going into it I thought it was going to be a serious thriller, but oh boy was I wrong. It was Makjang. Which is fine, and also coming back in style apparently. I’m sat for season 2, but not with much hope. Rating: I actually don’t know the timeline of any of these events, does it expand years months, idk…

My Demon (2023-2024, Choi Ah-il)

Main leads: Kim Yoo-jung, Song Kang, Lee Sang-yi, Kim Hae-sook

Country: S. Korea

Run: Nov 24, 2023 to Jan 20, 2024 (SBS TV, Friday and Saturday @22:00 (KST))

Episodes: 16, 70 min

Thoughts: I was excited for this drama. I really liked Doom at Your Service which promised to have a similar vibe. Which it did to an extent. I actually hate Song Kang in romances and only really like him in nonromance shows. However I think he did really well as Jeong Gu-won. I liked the overall Romance in the show. But I did think the revenge plot got uninteresting and confusing after a while. I do like the ending, I was pretty satisfied with where everyone ended up, which has been a long time since I’ve been this satisfied.

Welcome to Samdal-ri (2023-2024, Kwon Hye-joo)

Main leads: Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hye-sun

Run: Dec 2, 2023 ti Jan 21, 2024 (JTBC, Saturday and Sunday 22:30 (KST))

Episodes: 16, 70 min

Thoughts: This was cute and was far above my expectations. I am always uneasy with Ji Chang Wook, I can’t forgive him for the Melting My Heart drama a few years back, but I would do anything for Shin Hye-sun. So I gave this drama a go, and I liked it. I loved the vibes, and I didn’t mind that revenge wasn’t the main plot. It's like the one line “my enemies will take themselves out before you get a chance to swing.” It was heartwarming and I’m glad that Cho Sam-dal was able to find peace in her hometown. I loved the feel of community. I loved all the Friendships. It was very lovely. And I’m happy at the ending. I will also give my entire heart to Cho Hae-dal and Cha Ha-yul. I loved their mother-daughter relationship. I wanted more screen time for both. Rating: I’m glad there is a little piece of heaven…

Game of Witches ( 2022-2023, Lee Do-Hyun)

Main leads: Jang Seo-Hee, Kim Kyu-Seon, Lee Hyun-Seok, Oh Chang-Suk. Han Ji-Wan, Ban Hyo-Jung

Country: S. Korea

Run: Oct 11, 2022 to April 14, 2023 (MBC, Monday to Friday 19:15 (KST))

Episodes: 119, 25 to 28 min

Thoughts: *Major Spoilers+ Rant ahead.* This show makes me unneccsarly angery. It is a daily drama and a Makjang to boot, so literally put any and all expectations in the gutter. Everything is nonsensical, and drawn out to reach the 119 mark. Storylines get dropped or move way too fast. It has a strange family tree and for a moment every single person was supposbly related. They have so much evidence agsaint the scheming Kang Ji-ho (Oh Chang-suk) and Joo Se-young (Han Ji-wan) but it goes nowhere. Speaking of Kang Ji-ho, he was just straight up dispicable. I would say more than Se-ypung of Ma Hyun-Deok (Ban Hyo-Jung). He was a terrible partner and father from the start. He literally tossed his entire family out the door for Se-young and eventual power. He only paid attention to his daughter Kang Han-Byeol (Kwon Dan-A) when she was able to benefit him. He was at best neglectful and at worst abusive towards her. Han-byeol was the true victim. Hye-soo (Kim Kyu-Seon) actually had a motive in the beginning. She was just pathetic and weak but once she returned they weirdly sidelined her. Also I don’t know why Kang Ji-ho never got prosecuted for trying to kill Hye-soo. Like I find that to be one of his more egregious crimes. Like that is the mother of your child. You gave your child so much trauma, for what? Power? Like when they tried to redeem him at the end I was just fed up. You can’t make hime out to be the big bad guy for 118 episodes, and then have him do one good thing. He is a bad father, and when Han Byeol grows up she will resent him. Rating: Fuck this show, like actually.

My Dearest Part 2(2023, Hwang Jin-young)

Main leads: Namkoong Min, Ahn Eun-jin, Lee Hak-joo, Lee Da-in, Kim Yoon-woo, Lee Chung-ah

Thoughts: More devastating than the first part. Gil-chae is probably my favorite character I have watched. Her journey in this part is absolutely devastating but she survives. I enjoyed the refutement from blame, that people who experienced the worst horrors known are somehow blamed. Gil Chae pushes back on this sentiment herself. This entire time I just wanted Jang-hyun and Gil Chea together. Which took the entire part for them to finally be happy. I do think the ending was kind of wobbly, and they only really needed 10 episodes not the 11. But who am I to say? Anyways I enjoyed the show overall. Rating: My Dear Husband…

Kokdu: Season of Diety (2023, Kang Yi-heon, Heo Jun-woo)

Thoughts: You must be wondering why did you watch this? It only has bad reviews- which is a lie, it is actually a polarizing show. And I can understand. If you go into this show with the lowest expectations imaginable and it might be fun. The scenery is pretty and they make decent use of it. Main Romance is actually not good, I felt no chemistry between Kim Jung-Hyun and Im Soo-hyang. I did like the romance between Tae Jeong-won (Kim Da-som) and Han Cheol (Ahn Woo-yeon) other than that The show overall fell flat. I did like the scenery and the setting. I thought it was fun. Also episode 16 was the most enjoyable episode, which is good for an ending. Rating: I would skip…

Take a Taste: with Minute Burger Beef Shawarma Burger [Feb 15th, 2023]

Hello! It’s time for another “Take a Taste”! The series is about delicious food with my two paper dolls.

And today, I'm reviewing the Minute Burger's Beef Shawarma Burger! Mmmmm! 🥩🌯🍔😋 Will it taste like "Shawarma"? Let's find out! 🤔

• This is my 2nd time attempting to try the burgers from the aforementioned "Minute Burger", and my paper dolls are curious to see what's inside... 🤔

• [3rd Image] Whoa! A single burger! Yeah, it used to be two burgers. But, SPOILER ALERT! I've already eaten one! Hehe! 😅 But hey, at least we could share the single burger, right? 😊

• Nonetheless, here's what "Beef Shawarma Burger" looks like. It might look normal, but unlike the normal "minute burgers", the patty itself is thick & juicy! Mmmmm... 😊

• [9th & 10th Images] Here's my second bite. Not much to say about their thick patty appearance, but the actual shawarma taste never disappoint my taste buds, Including my paper dolls!😋

Overall:

• Damn, that was a GOOD BURGER! 🍔😁 I would definitely gonna order it on my own because this was gifted from my parents. I mean, one burger wasn't enough for us, and I'd already eaten one before. So overall, this could be the best hamburger offered by the folks of "Minute Burger" I've ever had. So much so, I'll go another round & RE-review it, one more time before they disappear, in the future. (I'm sure, it would NOT happen 🤞🤞) 💵🍔🍔😋

Under the Surface

Nov(emeto)ber 2022, Day 9: The first time ___ has seen ___ sick

Is it just me or are some characters begging to eventually have a total meltdown? (This sounds so bad, I swear I'm not a horrible person in real life, I even save fruit flies from drowning.) Not gonna lie, this one hit me harder in the feels than I had expected.

Natalia and Cassandra had never argued in front of their friends. Apart from some benign bickering, they were usually one heart and soul. Even when Natalia got on everyone‘s nerves with her capricious airs, Cassandra was the one to jump to her defense and take the wind out of the prima donna’s sails. That’s why the entire group was completely blindsided when the two BFFs clashed violently.

The night had started like countless others – the six friends filmed a vlog about them going out. Of course, they opened with a montage of their struggles to find the right outfit or nail hair and make up for a certain relatability factor. Them meeting and hugging, then coaxing Natalia into trying cheap junk food. Zena’s local secret bar advice and the usual quarrel about today’s club of choice. The difficult agreement was ultimately contrasted by scenes inside their prefered location with all of them dancing and sipping on colorful cocktails. A glimpse at their life that made their followers feel like they were part of the circle.

It all went downhill as their casual chatter shifted to vacation planning.

„We should totally travel together again!“ Ketan was in his usual state of euphoric enthusiasm. „Our voyage vids are still our most successful.“

„I don’t know about that.“ Ezra instinctively placed a hand on his stomach. „Our trip was, quite literally, a shitshow. What if we’re cursed and it happens again?“

„Oh, please!“ Natalia rolled her eyes. „How hard can it be to stay away from the seafood? Spoiler alert: If you don’t eat stuff that’s notorious for giving you food poisoning, you will most likely not get food poisoning.“

„Fish poisoning is pretty common as well and we still took the risk“, Zena pointed out with a shrug. „We were just lucky we got away.“

„Uhm, can we stick to the fact that we’re obviously not cursed?“ Ketan glared at Ezra scoldingly. „Do you really think there is some kind of higher power with total control over us that intentionally throws us into random situations just to make us sick?“

„I wasn’t talking about an emetophile eldritch entity.“ It was impossible to tell if Ezra was offended by Ketan’s allegation or if he felt caught. „But it’s easy for you not to worry. You weren’t the one puking up your guts at least twenty times per day.“

„Uhm… guys?“ Calvin cleared his throat. There was a tense nervosity about his demeanor. „I’ve been invited to my aunt’s house, so… I wouldn’t be able to join in on the fun.“

„Wait, you’re spending your holidays without us?“, Ketan sulked. „Why didn’t you tell us earlier?“

„Yeah, about that…“ Cassandra took a deep breath. „He won’t be, like, completely without us because… I’m gonna join him.“

„What. The. Actual. Fuck?“ For a moment, Ketan’s eyes went big like two dark saucers. Then he broke into a radiant smile and clapped, barely able to contain his excitement. „I’m living for it! Who’s ready for some couple content?“

„Stop it!“ Cassandra placed a finger on Ketan’s lips. „We’re not even officially dating yet.“

„…but you are dating unofficially?“, Ketan grinned in spite of Cassandra‘s efforts to shush him. It earned him a kick against the shin with Calvin’s leather shoes.

„Aaaaw, you guys were my OTP all along!“ Zena looked like she had just seen a fluffy puppy flying by.

„Are you for real?“ Unlike her friends, Natalia wasn‘t overjoyed or smitten. Her lips were tightened and raised into a one-sided smile while her eyes remained cold and narrowed. „No shade, but… is this a prank or one of Ketan’s idiot PR moves?“

„You did not just say that.“ Cassandra’s jaw dropped. „What the hell is that even supposed to mean?“

„Well, just because the guy’s been simping for you since basically forever, it doesn’t make him your match.“ Natalia let out an exasperated scoff. „And, by the way, I thought you wanted to join me for spa week?“

„Don’t ever call Calvin a simp again.“ Cassandra was infamous for her deadpan snark, but she usually wasn’t one to openly flaunt her emotions. The unmistakable expression of raw anger seemed weirdly out of place on her features. „Also, pro tip: If you want me to join you for anything, it would really help if you just asked.“

„Yeah, because he didn’t spend our entire vacation drooling over your micro bikini.“ Natalia took a sip from her cocktail, trying hard to display a superior attitude. „Jeez, sorry for assuming that was obvious when I raved about it for a week or so. It’s not like we’ve always travelled together before, except we totally did.“

„Oh my God, I just can’t with you right now.“ There was something bubbling under Cassandra’s surface. The tension in the air had been palpable all along, but at this very moment, the argument entered minefield territory. „Are you actually salty that I didn’t catch your non-existing invitation or is it because I might care about anyone else but you?“

„Do you really want to go there?“ After an instant’s hesitation, Natalia decided to ignore the warning sign – yet the brief pause made it perfectly clear that she had undoubtedly noticed it. „Funny how little miss basic nerdy bitch clung on to me when it came in handy. A hunk like him wouldn’t even have noticed you before you met me. But sure, I’m the jealous one when you ditch me last minute because you’re thirsty or because your parents are pestering your ovaries to finally pop out some babies!“

„Leave my parents out of this!“ Cassandra was screaming. Whatever had been building up inside of her was now released in a massive explosion. „And don’t you dare to call me a leech! You wanted to be friends with me because I was the only one who wasn’t just after your money and fame! I was stupid enough to believe you’re more than an arrogant, entitled bitch, but you know what? I’m starting to think that everyone else was right about you.“

Cassandra sprung from her seat and stormed off. Calvin hurried after her, equally bewildered and worried. The remaining friends needed a moment to overcome their state of shock.

„That… was wild“, Zena muttered after an uncomfortable period of silence. „I mean, don’t you think you should follow her and apologize? You said some pretty fucked up things, you know.“

„Yeah, she’s the victim, I’m the villain, I get it.“ Natalia emptied her glass in one go. „Now would you kindly get off my back?“

With a frosty expression, Natalia waved at a waitress and ordered another drink.

Natalia got hammered and it was highly uncomfortable to watch. She did it quickly and on purpose, going from slightly tipsy to completely plastered in a timelapse. When she made efforts to attract the attention of a waiter again, Ezra brought himself to grab her arm.

„Pretty sure you had enough for the night.“

„Lemme go!“ Natalia knocked his hand out of the way. „Zena, tell Kurt Cobain you ordered on Wish to mind his own business!“

„No, sweetie.“ Zena turned Natalia’s face towards herself. „You can barely see straight, it’s about time you go home.“

Ketan chewed on his lower lip while he fought an internal struggle. Calvin was his best friend and he was mad at Natalia for trashtalking him. On the other hand, it was obvious they couldn’t leave their dead drunk princess alone. His own appartment was closest to Natalia’s, so it made sense that they would share a ride. The crisis talk had to wait until her alcohol level had dropped significantly.

„Let’s call an Uber for both of us“, Ketan sighed, resigning to his fate.

„Hello? Did I agree to that going home bullshit?“ Natalia crossed her arms in front of her chest. „Stop treatin‘ me like a baby!“

„Then stop acting like a baby.“ Ezra was clearly done with her antics. „You know what? I’ll pick up the check, you guys pay me back later. Just get her out into the fresh air.“

„Thanks, I’ll keep you guys posted!“ Ketan put his arm around Natalia’s small waste and pulled her up. „Come on, it’ll do you good. You don’t want to make a scene, do you?“

Natalia huffed, then almost stumbled over her own feet. Five inch heels weren’t necessarily made for a drunken stagger. It was quite the challenge to get her out of the club safely. Even a simple thing as standing in place required constant readjustment because Natalia threatened to topple over in every possible direction. So at first, it was a huge relief when their Uber finally arrived.

„Girlfriend had a good time, eh?“, the driver asked with a grin, but there was an element of caution to his words. Ketan put on an innocent smile.

„She’s fine“, he declared with the utmost conviction.

„Does he look like ma‘ boyfrien‘ to you?“, Natalia slurred and sank back into her seat. Ketan’s grin froze in place. He was more than ready to leave the disaster site, crawl into his bed and pretend it had all been a nightmare. The last thing he wanted was to be kicked out of the car again.

„Puke fee’s 200,00 $. Still willing to take the ride?“

„Ah, yeah, sure.“ Ketan‘s cheeks glowed with embarrassment and anxiety. This was uncharted territory for him. Ketan had never seen Natalia drunk, let alone sick. She could hold her liquor remarkably well and she didn‘t pass the line of losing control. The external expression was everything to her. Ketan wouldn’t have believed anyone who told him that the elegant diva would ever crash and burn like that.

The car took off and Ketan kept his fingers crossed that Natalia’s stomach would survive the trip unscathed. She leaned against the head rest, eyes closed like she was about to doze off. For at least ten minutes, Natalia barely moved a muscle. Just when Ketan dared to gather some hope, the inebriated blonde began to shift in her seat. Her glossy pink lips curled into a frown and she hugged herself with a pained groan.

„Hang in there, Nat, it’s not far now.“ Ketan awkwardly stroked Natalia’s shoulder. It felt peculiar, almost illegal. Under normal circumstances, she would have never allowed him to even think about comforting her. On the other hand, it seemed wrong to just watch her suffer – and he wasn’t keen on paying the vomit fine.

„Where is Cas?“, Natalia whined. Her gestures were uncoordinated, an odd staccato of rubbing her belly, clutching the shiny fabric of her dress, covering her lips, turning her head. Every now and then, her face contorted into a silent retch.

„You’ll see her again soon.“ Ketan tried to come up with some kind of appeasement that, strictly speaking, wasn’t a lie. „Now try to breathe and relax, will you? I mean, I’m here, that’s at least… something.“

„I want Cas.“ The expression on Natalia’s face could have been both intense pain or nausea. She waved her hands like she was trying to fan herself, then curled up again. Her pursed lips formed an O and she let out a hybrid of gag and moan.

„Remember, puke fee is…“

„…200,00 $, I know.“ Ketan wearily cut off the driver and put his hand on Natalia’s back. Thanks to a generous cut-out, he could feel her clammy skin under his palm, shivering with every twitch of her muscles. „Nat, listen, are you going to be sick? Do we need to pull over?“

Natalia shook her head vehemently, then squinted and scrunched up her nose. Her fingers pushed against her lips. Ketan’s tension grew, but then again, they were barely five minutes away from his apartment building.

„Try to hold it in, we’re almost there!“

A violent jolt rocked Natalia’s body. She raised her head with a sudden jerk and her eyes flew open. Frantically, her unsteady hands grabbed the skirt of her dress. She spread her legs, bent over and vomited on the champagne colored fabric.

Ketan covered his face with a hand while rubbing Natalia’s convulsing back with the other one.

„Hell no!“, the driver grunted. „I knew it was a mistake to give you a lift.

„She – she caught it“, Ketan stammered apologetically, just to be drowned out by a full-throated retch. It was not a sound he had ever expected to come out of the ever so graceful Natalia – let alone the following gush of puke that splattered on the velvety material. The pond of watery sick sloshed back and forth in her impromptu barf bag. „Can you pull over really, really gently?“

Another stream of multicolored liquid poured out of Natalia’s heart shaped mouth. Ketan held his breathe – not because of the stench, but in tense anticipation if her skirt would be able to contain the flood. What the blonde expelled had the acrid odor of alcohol with only the slightest hint of vomit, which was a good thing. The lustrious synthetic fiber seemed to be waterproof, at least nothing had seeped through so far. If only the barf lake wouldn’t spill over…

Finally, the car stopped at the curb. The regurgitated drinks swashed dangerously between Natalia’s legs, but she held up her skirt with the courage of despair.

„Don’t move, I’ll come over and lend you a hand.“ Ketan jumped out of the car and rushed to Natalia’s side. He pulled the door open, then deliberately paused to change the pace. Slowly and very, very carefully, he helped Natalia turn towards him so she could gently slide over the seat and out into the open. It was not until they had moved away at least five baby steps from the vehicle that Ketan let go of the satin. He leapt backwards as Natalia released the collected sick all over the sidewalk.

The driver had already left the cab to thoroughly check for stains in the backseat area. Ketan’s heart was pounding like a jackhammer. Finally, the driver turned around, shrugged his shoulders and gave Ketan a crooked grin.

„Looks like your girl can aim“, he sneered. „Dodget the bullet. If you ask me, the lady is a keeper.“

„Yeah… thanks.“ With a sheepish smile, Ketan took out his wallet and expressed his gratitude with a generous tip. There was a flutter of relief when the driver finally left. Then Ketan remembered that he still had to drag a wasted and puke-soaked Natalia into his apartment.

This was going to be a long night.

Surprisingly, Natalia didn’t put up a fight when Ketan lead her into his humble abode. Maybe she was too wasted to care that this wasn’t her own place. Even though Ketan felt like a creep, he knew he had to get the girl out of her spoilt dress. There was no way Natalia could stand up long enough to remove her clothes, so he sat her down on his couch.

„Sorry, don’t mean to be a perv, but we have to get you into something clean and dry.“

The last out of all possible reactions Ketan had expected was the very drunk version of a seductive smile, but that was exactly what Natalia gave him. With maximum discomfort, he pulled the dress over her head, doing his best not to soil her ombre hair. He tossed the saving piece of textile straight into the adjacent bathroom – a daily routine he was well-versed in when it came to his own clothes. Avoiding any closer look at Natalia in her underwear, he tried to wrap her in his blanket when she suddenly pulled him into a kiss.

To say that Ketan was flabbergasted would have been a gross understatement. His brain couldn’t even make sense of Natalia’s arms around his neck and her soft lips pressing against his own. She tasted like vomit and hard liquor, but that wasn’t the actual issue. Natalia’s ability to make rational decisions had clearly been drowned in a flood of alcohol. Gently but firmly, Ketan pushed her away and put the blanket around her shoulders.

Natalia stared at him in bewilderment.

„How dare you?“ Her voice quavered. „I’m way outta your league, you should have been grateful!“

„Nat… you don’t want to do this.“ Ketan tried to reach out for her, but Natalia slapped back his hand.

„You’re insane to turn down a woman like me!“, Natalia huffed. Then she hunched over and puked on Ketan’s lap. He cringed as the flaky mash splashed on his pants. This was definitely more than pure alcohol – maybe remains of the chicken nuggets they had forced on her earlier. Natalia sobbed, which immediately turned into a heave that brought up a second helping of soupy gruel. The spurt became thicker towards the end until the last lumps of sludge plopped heavily on Ketan’s thighs.

Natalia lifted her head. Trails of mascara ran down her flushed cheeks and mixed with the vomit stains around her mouth.

„Nobody needs me“, she wept, seemingly unaware of the fact that she had just thrown up on her friend. Ketan was overwhelmed by helplessness and compassion. Hesitantly, he put his hands on Natalia‘s shoulders.

„That is BS.“ Ketan softly wiped away Natalia’s tears, trying to ignore the puddle of sick that already began to cool down on his lap. Some bigger chunks of meat and soggy batter lazily slipped down the sides of his legs. „You are our friend. Of course we need you!“

„But Zena and Ezra are basically siblings and Calvin’s your best mate and now he’s Cassandra’s bae and I’m all alone.“

„What are you even talking about?“ Ketan put on an encouraging smile. „You’re still part of the squad. You fucked up pretty badly today, but I’m sure Cass will forgive you if you apologize.“

„I miss her“, Natalia cried and threw herself at Ketan again. She didn’t notice that she soiled herself (and the blanket) by crawling into her own congealed vomit. Ketan pushed his instinctive disgust aside and put his arms around Natalia’s body that was still wrecked with sobs.

„I know“, he soothed the trembling blonde. „You just have to be honest with her. Tell her that you were acting like an arrogant prick because you are terrified of losing her. I promise it won’t hurt you to be a little soft and vulnerable sometimes.“

„But what if she hates me?“ Natalia pressed her wet face against Ketan’s chest. It was incredible how she had turned from an overconfident queen into this shivering bundle of insecurities.

„No way!“ Ketan stroked back Natalia’s long hair. The light blond tips had not been spared by her vomiting fit. „If you open up, I’m sure she will understand. And even if she needs some time to get over your fight, you’re still not alone in this. I’m here for you, and I’m sure the others will be as well. Especially if you show them for once that you care about them.“

Ketan pulled Natalia closer and caressed her neck until she relaxed in his arms. As her body began to feel heavier, he carefully straightened her up.

„Don’t snooze off yet. We still have to clean ourselves up. You made quite the mess, my dear.“

„I dunno where that came from“, Natalia pouted.

„Well, I’m pretty sure I know.“ Ketan wrapped his arms around the intoxicated girl and led her into his bathroom. Physically and mentally exhausted, she was already half asleep under the warm shower and snuggled into the towel as Ketan dried her off. Against his better judgment, Ketan decided to postpone the puke cleaning session of his couch for the next day. He apologized in advance to future Ketan, then put his coziest pajamas on Natalia and himself before cuddling up with her in bed.

Ketan completely forgot about placing a bucket next to her bedside, but he was granted several hours of peaceful sleep before he came to regret this unfortunate oversight.

Overall Impression: It was cute, the concept was nice, the early 2 eps were Very promising and last ep was touching but the middle (esp 5-6) was quite meh for me. There was also a bunch of confusing stuff, esp in the second half, but I guess I won't try to investigate too much. It has people really talking and discussing and dissecting it though, which is a fun aspect.

Initial Impression: Ahh, the tiktok clips I saw of eps 1 - 2 drove me a bit crazy, I loveee boyish, cute tops and then learned that apparently this is the A/B/O drama? but they’re both alphas (or rather - spoiler from tiktok comments - that Charlie’s an enigma?). and also seems like Charlie’s some sort of spy who will betray Babe? Man I kinda wanna just start watching it lol but it doesn’t end till Feb 9 next year smh give me 2 eps a week smh Anyway idk I feel like it has a lot of tropes I like, so maybe... if they can pull it off... I’d be thankful

Overall Impression: This show had everything: non-traditional alpha/alpha relationship, racecar competitions, x-men like superpowers, child trafficking, pseudo-incest if you think about it (from Kenta's side at least) and more. And it didn't have a super strong script, there were nonsensical elements and plot holes that didn't get addressed and things that happened to just move the plot along, but it was a fun watch nonetheless, both for the novelty and the entertainment factor. Babe was a very compelling character with his past and how he behaves in the present and his relationships with Tony/Way/people in general. Also helped that Pavel did a really good job with him and acted his ass off, there were quite a few emotional moments in there. I agree with some people's comments that I wish Charlie's actor Pooh as a better actor. And his character wasn't as developed or with depth as the other ones either, like in terms of emotions I guess. Although I really liked Charlie/Babe, my true ship winners might be Pete/Kenta in a Not Me ToddBlack fashion, to be honest, with Kenta as maybe my favourite character (2nd is Babe). They gave us like 2 tiny hints that they might know each other and waited until literally last 10 mins of episode 11 out of 13 to lay out their history. They have an interesting friends (-> brothers/crush) -> enemies -> allies again at the very end dynamic where I think that they could become lovers post-canon. Really had me writing a fic idea in my notes app after my few months of no drive to write.

Initial Impression: Another Idol Factory offering and this time more plot-based. It seemed to have REALLY good reception || The finale still isn't properly available yet so I don't really know how people will feel about the end but oh well, I'm gonna end up watching it either way because of how much people have been loving it

Overall Impression: I think I liked the first few eps and the potential of the series and the possibilities than I liked the actual series oof. Since everybody freaking loved this, I also had high expectations. I thought there would be more focus on the romance and fantasy and past lives aspect and less on the cop activity. I feel like they didn't choose the correct things to show on screen. I think most of the fight scenes and stuff were confusing and not choreographed very well, and some moments needed to have more time dedicated to them or have more gravitas to them. However, some moments were just shot/directed so beautifully. I enjoyed the parallels between Tharn and Phaya or their current life and past life. It shows the cyclical nature of Phaya and Tharn's lives, and it would've been even more impactful if we saw more of their past lives (their OG life or other reincarnations). Highly doubt I'm gonna think of the characters again, I somehow stopped being attached to them about halfway through - probably related to the fact that I liked the first few eps (half?) of the show better. They tried so many things, but I don't think they satisfyingly merged them or chose the correct things to focus on on-screen.

Dead Friend Forever - DFF (2024)

Initial Impression: Be On Cloud production with actors who I'm not super keen on (Ta followed Andrew Tate on Twitter when I last checked…) but it's like a slasher, so I'd be curious to check it out. <- added to Considering when the first ep or 2 were out || 240229 - Added to Watchlist: I’ve been meaning to watch this since like ep 1 came out and I learned it was supposed to be horror-esque/slasher and seems like people have been loving it even more these past few eps. I’m actually so excited to check it out, I hope I love it and it rots my brain.

Overall Impression: I think this show landed the ending which is very satisfying. I was afraid that's where this show was leading because of certain choices in writing in eps 10 and 11 and that maybe they were gonna go for a kinda-happy ending to make it a BL but I really enjoyed it. Also interesting that there were so many predictions but despite them not being true, the finale still managed to be coherent based on what the first 11 episodes had set up for us while still surprising me. I enjoyed the first 4 eps and last few episodes more because it was more about the actual thriller/horror aspects whereas the middle 3 - 4 episodes were just so difficult to get through due to the bullying and police and Non getting dragged in more and more D: It had some good moments like Phee and Non's relationship etc but in general, just sad. I kept wanting it to move on to when Phee (and New) come up with the plan or to just go back to the cabin and the horrors. I think some characters were done really well while others were not, like they are all flawed and varying degrees of terrible but I have some that really compelled me (Tan, Tee, Fluke - liked these 3 enough to write so many words about them in another Tumblr post) vs those who fell flat for me and the main characters (Phee, Jin) kinda fell into that.I'm glad something like this exists in BL (though there wasn't much real romance in it lol). It also made me write so many words and posts on here, really gives you the itch to Discuss because of the different threads and characters and motivations and secrets.

Overall: Nobody in this drama asks before kissing lol not Doyoon, not Seheon, not the little kiss that Seheon's brother gave to sleeping Taejoon, and the other two, Juha and Taeyi, are experts in being creeps and having internalized homophobia that they direct outwardly to the guys they like as well (Seheon's brother fits here too lol). Yet, I enjoyed it a fair amount, the story was coherent (lots of open strands at the end though...), the acting was fine, I was endeared by Doyoon (is he the Omega X kid?), and the dynamics were enjoyable, if iffy on certain counts. Not super attached though.

Last Twilight (Thai - Jan 26): Everybody's loving it so far, I'm curious || hmmm people have very polarizing opinions on the last ep (both the disability aspect but also the general storytelling aspect), so I'm cautious but people reallllly love the first 9 episodes. Just adding it here in case I wanna see what the hype was about

Chaser Game W (Jpn - Feb 27): Another Japanese GL and apparently it has toxic-ish workplace romance + post-breakup second chance romance yay. Also, the tweet where one of the characters is like “I’m a lesbian” *thunder* is hilarious

Perfect Propose (Jpn - Mar 1): Originally was curious about it because of the casual (?) hand job gifs from 1st ep and because while I’m not really into the sweet stuff from Japan, something like the tone of this might be appealing. Also, this Tiktok of “We’re engaged” “[...] and we’re both guys” “I’m gay” was pretty funny

Cherry Magic (Thai - Mar 2): It was getting generally good buzz, so I was curious but this Tumblr post talking about the Thai BL landscape recently and saying CM might be better than the original made me seriously consider watching it. I think I’m also more receptive to Thai shows with this sort of storyline/dynamic more than Japanese shows, so hopefully I’ll actually like the series this time.

Blank (Thai - Apr 07): Only season 1 is out for now and apparently it ends on a cliffhanger, so idk if I should be adding it to the watchlist quite yet but I want age gap GL (w dubious morality? idk what the discourse is about tbh), so I’ll add it and hope S2 is released in May as expected and turns out well

Love is Better the Second Time Around (Jpn - Apr 10): I'm fond of the second chance/post-breakup romance trope, hopefully I’ll like this one

Unknown (Taiwan - Apr 20): I’d been keeping an eye on it since it started releasing and it got pretty high praise all throughout. I think I can get into the we’re-not-biological-brothers-but-we-grew-up-together-as-brothers dynamic

Deep Night (Thai - Apr 25): I’ve enjoyed First Piyangkul in shows before and am curious about the host club setting in this. This show is such an interesting case because on Reddit and on Tumblr, everybody seems to love it and MDL has some mixed comments but mostly positive there too, and yet the MDL rating is 7.5, I wonder why the discrepancy.

Overall Impression: Firstly, fuck the message of the show. In shows like this, where they treat suicide as a personal, moral failure of selfishness and weakness rather than due to systematic issues in society, mental health struggles, or treating the characters with kindness, it's of utmost importance to just roll your eyes and see the story/acting/etc. Eps 1 to half of 3 were interesting and exciting but in the way of "I'm watching a show with murder and gore and people trying to outsmart each other" rather than about this specific show. The ending is... okay, I guess, expected it. In Part 1, Death just left something to be desired for me and this kinda continued here. Don't think I'll think of this show much (except maybe Lee Dohyun?) and the 2nd part didn't have the excellent pacing of the first one. Not as good as part 1.

Initial Impression: Been waiting for this since literally 2023 after I watched Strangers From Hell and saw in Certified Noonas' 2023 releases that it was from the same director + is an interesting concept [Kdramas mentioned in Certified Noonas 2023 Releases: Murder DIEary (the synopsis is cool and the director is the same as Strangers From Hell but I’m looking at the MDL again and 2024? D: why so far but someone on comments has also been saying that the filming ended recently - Mar 25, 2023 - and it can still come out this year). 2024: Rolled over from 2023 and now it's called A Killer Paradox]

Overall Impression: Really enjoyed the first few episodes (up to ep 4), then eps 5 - 7 were kinda meandering and it felt like not much was happening (that I cared about anyway), then ep 8 was engaging again. In the second half, we focused a lot on Song Chon and his story to me wasn't as engaging as Lee Tang's and we also strayed away from Lee Tang and his thoughts. I liked the fun shots and the imagination scenes, it was interesting. I feel like the show didn't have many twists and turns, like it was all a bit anti-climactic, which dampened it. Had high hopes because of the concept + Strangers From Hell director but that show was a lot more atmospheric and insular and the character focuses were more engaging. Don’t think I’ll ever think about it.

Initial Impression: OffGun was a surprise but a welcome one during GMMTV 2023. As it's airing, heard kinda conflicting thoughts from people but it seems generally positive, so I'll give it a watch maybe

Lost Interest: I never actually added it to my To Watch list because the reception was iffy the whole way through but kept my eyes on it because of Off/Gun in case if got better. Seems like it didn't... oh well, hopefully The Trainee will be more liked because I enjoy OffGun.
