First Impression: In/Spectre S2
Tumblr media
Supernatural entities exist all around us. Just like humans, they often come into conflict with one another. But when those conflicts become dangerous or threaten to flow over into the world of humans, Kotoko Iwanaga becomes involved to resolve the situations. She is the ayakashi’s goddess of wisdom, having exchanged her right eye and left leg to for the role. She is a strong and intelligent young woman, but as an ayakashi who is frightened by a possessed doll is about to discover, her boyfriend, Kuro, is an even more powerful being, as worthy of respect as his goddess and far more terrifying than the doll he fears.
Tumblr media
In/Spectre returns in all its phantasmic, quippy, soporific glory! Episode one of the new season is a perfect sample for viewers new to the series. It captures the very essence of the show, a microcosm demonstrating both what’s engaging about it and what isn’t. In/Spectre is a supernatural mystery, and this opening episode not only reintroduces the characters but puts Kuro and Iwanaga on a small case. Relatively inconsequential and easily solved, Iwanaga nonetheless goes on endlessly about how this mystery was unraveled. But wait! Even after giving the explanation to the requesting spirit and his friends, the story hasn’t completed! She told the trio that the supernatural wasn’t actually involved, but the truth is that the doll is real and powerful! And so, Iwanaga drones on for several more minutes before Kuro fights the doll in a violent battle typical to the series (his power is the ability to die and come back to life, each time selecting an outcome closer and closer to the most successful one). End of episode. And there’s your sample platter of In/Spectre: Iwanaga goes on and on and on about cases that aren’t worth the long exposition, interrupted by some humorous banter and bloody, bone-crunching, face-smashing fights. Although I find Iwanaga charming and her relationship with Kuro hilarious (he seems to disdain her until the point she’s put in danger), I’ve slept through enough episodes of season one to just leave season two be—unless, that is, I come down with a case of insomnia that needs a sure-fire remedy. - @animepopheart

youtube

Why is Wilson the only male character in Don't Starve Together who can grow a beard so magnificent it keeps him warm?
I'm so glad you asked! My wife has a theory and it is the correct theory and I will accept no substitutes:
You see, Wilson is Trans, and despite having other ways he could have accessed testosterone, he considered himself enough of a scientific genius to create his own Super Testosterone (patent pending) to speed up the process!
The good news is, it worked!
The bad news is it does bring about what Wilson dubbed "Super Puberty," and he still has the acne scars to prove it!
Also, he now grows such an intense beard that it can keep him warm in the cold!
Which was mostly just a nuisance that involved spending a lot of time and money on high-quality shaving kits, but it became a lot more useful once he suddenly had to survive in the wilderness!

some things we know/can infer about Nordic Bunny from the Shred Force pilot 🎸🤘
Tumblr media
he's an alien, with the title (either given to him or self-styled) 'Ruler of the Galaxy and Nightmare to Humanity'
according to the intro, he's either been attempting to invade humanity for many years, or he is the descendant of an alien race which has been doing so since 'the dawn of time'
his goal is to become the 'Grand Imperial Emperor and Most Extreme Bearer of Awesomeness Who Has Lots of Friends and Never Has to Hang Out Alone'...of Earth. so we can guess he's a pretty lonely guy 😭💔
Hank and Ronny (the Shred Force boys) and Molox (the greatest rock gods in history) are familiar with Nordic Bunny and have clearly foiled his plans many times before
his headquarters may well be an entire planet, which looks like a terrifying, spiky, robotic fortress
he's either extremely technically proficient and creates a great deal of evil inventions, or he has a very subservient workforce (his minions) to do this for him
he regularly destroys his minions, who seem to be clones/virtually identical to one another, possibly sharing a hivemind
he seems to resent humanity for some specific reason, as he sends forth his crab army to 'have fun at everyone else's expense'
his vendetta against the Shred Force is personal 👀

You really think they've kissed before? I want to believe.
Dammit, Scully, the truth is out there! *rustles through file folders in the basement until uncovers the correct one and then flourishes it with an Aziraphale-ish "AH-HA!"* What about the other arrangement in The Arrangement scene in S1, perchance?
Tumblr media
In The Globe Theatre scene, it is established that Crowley and Aziraphale each knew before the scene begins that they themselves are assigned to Edinburgh by their respective head offices later in the week but neither of them knew the other was until they learn from one another that they are during the course of the scene. As a result, triggering The Arrangement-- in the 'only one of them doing both of their work assignments' sense-- cannot have been why they were meeting up. We also learn early in the scene, though, that Crowley asked to meet without being specific as to why (which is an answer in and of itself, imo lol), other than to convey that it wasn't an emergency/they hadn't been caught because Aziraphale is relaxed and popping the food kinky Serpent of Eden's favorite fruit in front of him for the duration of the scene. So, Crowley asked to meet and Aziraphale picked the place-- this meeting is an *arrangement*-- but that is then subtly semi-hidden in the scene with some sleight of hand distraction that calls your attention to the revelation of the fact that they both can-- and sometimes do-- do each other's work. The scene about them doing each other's miracles is really also about them doing each other lol. Using past tense by using 'thought' in this bit of the scene though, Scully, kind of says a lot about the reason Crowley wanted to meet though, yeah?
Tumblr media
Everyone so on about that 2.06 disaster that they've forgotten about the trailing-off-verbal-ellipsis-into-kissy-pout that is Crowley for Hell is sending me away for a few days so my first thought was that I want to see you and that I was willing to endure a few minutes of one of these depressing plays you like-- thank you for sparing me the first few acts with this meeting time, btw-- and show up with some love poetry and my glasses halfway down my nose and some big Bildaddy energy and see if I could flirt my way into your bed while you do that thing where you pretend to be scandalized by the thought while eating grapes in front of me because old movie chemistry, us, even though old movies haven't been invented yet so anyway, angel, what if I just pivot this straight into The Arrangement since you were hinting you'd be down for that by commenting on how my assignment didn't seem that difficult a moment ago and we'll see if the audience notices what the scene is inferring that it's implying by the fact that when you look at me, I pout at you *again* while suggesting only one of us goes to Scotland, furthering suspicions that The Arrangement isn't just about inventing occult/ethereal weekends for each other but that it's a sex game where whoever goes and does both of our work assignments gets to be the one to choose whatever they want in bed from the one of us who had the day off which is also why, instead of taking turns as we would if this were just about the miracles, we flip a coin because I live to cheat on the coin toss because anything you want, angel...

Recently, I saw some people criticizing Scott Snyder for trying to make Joker an immortal demon archetype while praising Zdarsky for giving Joker a past and making him more human. And I was like...sorry, but did we read the same comic? Because that was a complete opposite of what actually happened.
Snyder didn't write the Joker as a monster emerging from hell or nothingness. His Joker was a man who found death preferable to the reveal of his real name (DotF). When confronted with the life he left behind, Joker was terrified.
And despite his darndest attempts to reinvent himself and ascend into something beyond mere man (Endgame), he failed.
That's it. That's the very point. He failed.
Hell, Joker might have achieved a modicum of success, had he just left Batman behind. But no, he couldn't help himself. So in his last moment, Batman held him down and forced him to accept his own mortality.
Yet inexplicably, people are so hung up on the introduction of 'the Pale Man' myth even though it can be inferred (rather plainfully so) from the text that Joker was lying.
Batman broke his heart. To retaliate, Joker destroyed his city and haunted him with a tale of the devil whose existence might predate even Gotham itself. Joker knew he outliving Batman was one of Bruce's greatest fears, so in his resentment, he tried to make Batman die believing the Joker to be an unstoppable force of evil that would continue to exist indefinitely without him.
The Pale Man was invented, partly, because Joker wished he could escape from the entwining of their own fates. He no longer relished in the belief that Batman had helped make him.
All in all, I understand not being a fan of Snyder's work. That's absolutely valid. But to accuse him of pushing the narrative of Joker being the devil incarnate is just...unfair.
And wrong.
Tumblr media
The pic has nothing to do with my rant btw. I'm just upset it was rejected and replaced by something rather generic so I find any opportunity to randomly include it lmao.

Donnie sits in his lab, fingers strumming against the desk. He stares at the pile of parts you'd managed to find for him. The newest one made his head spin, it could only be found in the Hidden City, this meant you went down to find it for him. You probably had to go to a bunch of places to get one in such good condition.
But you couldn't possibly have a crush on him. His brothers were imagining it.
Leo pointed out that you started wearing purple. Which of course Donnie noticed, but he tried to say that maybe you just liked it. Raph followed up with saying that you hardly ever wore purple before now.
"Its a sign" So Mikey and Leo said.
Donnie wasn't buying it.
Mikey pointed out that you were wearing lighter purples which are associated with with light-hearted, romantic feelings. He also brought attention to the fact that Donnie also started wearing lighter purples. Which Donnie quickly turned attention away from.
⋆。 ゚。☁︎👾。 ゚。⋆
"Why won't you even consider that they might actually have a crush on you?" Leo asks as he lounges in Donnie's lab while he works.
"It's simply out of the question." Donnie answers, as it that was a good enough answer. He looked at his twin for a moment, seeing the look on Leo's face. "I have hardly any redeeming qualities. The ones I do... Probably shouldn't be considered."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Leo sits up and frowns at Donnie. He rolls his chair over to Donnie, ready to give him a talking to. "You realize that you're actually likeable, right? We just joke around about each other."
"Sure, sure." Donnie rolls his eyes and turns back to his work. Unfortunately, Leo managed to keep him from turning, making Donnie face him. Donnie huffs and glares at Leo. "Just like the time you made sure I was taken by bats so I 'didn't ruin another mission'? Or reprogramming Shelldon to prove that my inventions suck?"
"Okay, that last one I admit was a bit far..." Leo sighs, looking at his twin with pleading eyes. "But you're my best friend, my twin. I wouldn't be sitting silently in your lab if I didn't like you, you know how hard it is for me to sit still and be quiet." Donnie smiles a little at Leo's last statement, letting out a weak snort, which makes Leo continue more passionately. "You're the opposite of me. In almost every way, but that's what makes us work. Sure I'm charismatic and insanely attractive... But you're mysterious, stoic, and fucking genius."
"And those are redeeming qualities?" Donnie asks, genuinely wanting to know. Did those things pull you to be attracted to him? Were those qualities really attractive?
"Absolutely!" Leo says, shaking Donnie a little. But then Leo stops to think for a second. "Well... They might think you hate them now."
"What?" Donnie replies, eyes wide. "Why? Did I do something?" He's panicking now. He had to fix this. He had to finally admit that you might maybe have a crush on him.
"You have been pretty... Guarded lately. You've been kind of blunt and mean to them, we've-"
Donnie stands up and rushes out of the lab quickly to resolve the issue. He quickly went to your place, not even knocking. He slipped in through the window, seeing you cooking dinner.
"You think I hate you?" Donnie asks softly, making you jump.
"I should really put a lock on the window..." You laugh anxiously. Donnie frowns at you for avoiding his question. "I didn't think it was out of the question."
"I'm sorry, that was never my intention." He murmurs, moving closer to you. You stare at him, a little shocked. He's apologizing? And sounds sincere? "I've been... Fighting my emotions. I guess I didn't realize I was taking it out on you."
"I don't understand..." You reply, brows furrowed as you look up at him. The look in his eyes is much different, softer than they had been recently.
"My brothers say you have a crush on me?" Donnie asks like he's wanting reassurance, wanting confirmation that these rumors where in fact true. You nod, even more confused. "I've been... Fighting with believing that... And with understanding how I feel about you."
You stare at him still, finally the pieces click. "Oh..." You whisper in realization, adverting your gaze for a moment to collect yourself. "So that's what Leo's text meant..." Donnie cocked his head a little before you showed the text.
Mayday! Donnie is about to explode emotionally!
Donnie rolls his eyes at his brother's text, but then looks at you. "So... What does this mean for us?" He questions quietly.
"I would like to... Figure this out with you, if that's something you'd be interested in."
"Sounds intriguing... I'm in."

I really want to know what Mercy's association with the eighth looks like. All the other OG lyctors have nice legible relationships with with their pet planets where you can look at their personalities and the corresponding cultures and philosophies and then extrapolate, but Mercy and the Eighth have me stymied.
It's not like there's no overlap- they both go in for dour fun hating, there's a certain superficial brittleness covering up genuine principle, someone with no talent for inference has probably tried to compile her most bitterly exasperated asides into a holy book. The mad science they absolutely got from her, the religious fervour makes sense in terms of where her head was presumably at thousands of years ago, but I cannot see her having the patience to deal with their appetite for ritual and the soul siphoning and breeding cavaliers for batteries doesn't feel like something she'd be into on an institutional level. the eighth reads like mercy left a bunch of freshly resurrected amnesiac zombies with a very terse orientation package, some absolutely deranged medical notes and very strict instructions on lab safety alongside a rule about how they should only contact her if a significant section of the planet is on fire and then they developed a whole religion and culture about it while she checked in very occasionally to yell at them more about lab safety. Then when the other lyctors told her her children were ruining the vibe and inventing fundamentalism she got defensive about how fun is overrated and they have self determination AUGUSTINE, not everyone needs to micromanage and also look at what the third has done with commerce. Absentee patron saint of the year.
