do i have any right to call buffy a cringe show when im currently browsing old heroes sylar/peter fanfiction?
yeah
#ohh you talk about a cringe show? the writers strike of 2007 to 2008 fucked heroes HARD#season 1 is a good and engaging television. seasons 2 to 4 are a trainwreck in slow motion#and honestly the only reason people kept watching was because of sylar. and the show was paaainfully aware of that#an exercise in beating a horse to death#and i watched. i watched those terrible seasons. because zachary quinto causes pussy derangement#and im not ashamed. have you fucking seen that man#anyways. season 1 is good#at least as far as i remember. the actors are great. and the editing/score is very good#iits very like. gripping#i think season 1 of heroes was the Peak of that genre of television that happened when LOST was popular#that genre being We Wanna Be LOST So Baaaaad#i saw heroes before lost btw#but looking back and having rewatched heroes since. it's so got that lost copycat vibe#in a good way! during season one!#large ensemble cast of fucked up people#and theres mysteries and intrigue and everybody is connected. it's great#also heroes does something i consider fucking inspired: when they change the scene to somebody else#theres text at the bottom telling the audience which character(s) we're focusing on (and their location)#its their version of an establishing shot and i really like it. it's simple but effective. and helps one keep track of everybody#heroes turned out bad but to anybody who has seen it: when you start the show and you hear that weird wail singing#mohinder's narration all like ''where do we come from?'' over shots of several of our characters#don't tell me you don't feel chills

#rewatched this sneak peek for the first time since i first saw it and ugh. UUUUGHHGGHHH.#it hurts me a lot I’m ngl….. like to see charlie be so critical of something pim likes#except this time it’s even more painful because it isn’t just that pim likes it he also thought charlie would like it too and he literally#took him out and did this just for him because he thought he’d like it. he thought charlie said something so he went out of his way to#organise something to show to him to make him happy. and also how like… expectant? charlie is acting in the clip#like the way he just kinda frowns at pim whenever one of the dudes says something particularly out there#and it’s like. dude what the fuck#ive Said it once i’ll say it again i think charlie needs to lose pim during an episode or something. itd humble him#i mean that KIND OF happened with the finale but look where they are in s2#as usual what i always say. absolutely no actual complaints. if anything i Love this because it’s very clearly like#im so excited for this particular episode because you can just TELL its gonna be such a good one for their relationship#like looking into it analysing it n stuff#literally anything with them together has me screaming and cryjing they’re one of my fav duos ever#ok my hands are shaking bye#smiling friends#💝#smiling friends spoilers#also this is just Such a cute clip. the way pim runs and how charlie slugs on close behind him looking all grumpy#and how happy he looks to be calling him his best friend… actually peak i fear this is the peak of the season (joke

there comes a beautiful time in life where i have to ask myselg th question, "did i accidentally project too hard onto the character that i only relate to a little bit and in doing so hugely missed this one entire aspect/interpretation of the characters . am i stupid"
#ARE THEY STUPID!#dr who#this is about ten specifically his relationship w martha lmao#m being so serious i genuinely did not. see the 'ten was on purpose leading martha on to make her think her feelings were requited' angle#until going out into the wild and reading the tumblr posts. like i genuinely did not. at ALLLLLL. its like a brick hitting my head#bc the ENTIRE time s3 ten came off to me as 'doing stuff w no romantic intent behind it but would consistently get misinterpreted as such'#cuz IIIIIIIII have done this. IIIIIIII have run into this problem before. and it sucks so incredibly bad.#i actually do want to think my og interpretation still holds water cuz like. well i could gather all the evidence but#first one that comes 2 mind would be him going 'it's like when you fancy someone + they dont know you exist' to martha. in episode TWELVE#two routes; either ten is needlessly cruel and callous even after a season's worth of building up trust and friendship w her#or he is on super 'i dont think she has feelings for me and this is a very unhappy coincidence of a line' cocaine#Or the 'she fancied me' line in s4 to donna. either he is disregarding all the good and positive impact she did him. or the fact that this#went over his head the whole time made him look back on that time w discomfort <- I DID THIS. I MIGHT HAVE BEEN PROJECTING#THIS ONTO HIM. AM I STUPID.?.?????#you know how mikage rgu can either be read as an incel or a gay man lost so completely in the sauce#ten is like in this same ballpark. i think. of 'emotionally manipulative and disrespects women' or 'aroacespec and missed the cues'#funniest possible options to pick from. ten my brother how did you set yourself up like this#absolutely not denying that he was toxic and unhealthy during s3 in like 500 ways btw. but well. ths is the one concwpt that#flew over my head. so completely. and i can kind of see it now but i also still find it hard to incorporate into my belief system#bc its like. brother I'M aroace and missed the cues too lol#tangential note we can trace many problems down to a writer's room filled w white people not giving#martha's character the respect/agency she deserves for the existing narrative she has. bc they pulled this w mickey too both in series 1+2#if they wanted to portray ten as manipulative then him and martha should've been given more screentime#together where martha (or anyone else) calls him the FUCK out on this. and ten would need to suffer narrative consequences of doing smth#as fucked up as that rather than his happy stable dynamic he has w donna. if they wanted to portray him as oblivious then marthas character#shouldn't have constantly been boiled down to an unrequited crush (particularly her dialogue in the s3 finale - there's a LOT more reasons#why she would choose to leave/why their dynamic was unhealthy besides ten not returning her feelings)#if you read all these tags you may be entitled 2 financial compensation#ten and martha#aspec doc tag

Finally got around to watching Boom (was too busy to watch it on the day it came out). It wasn't what I'd call one of my all time favorite episodes but I thought it was overall pretty good and definitely reinforced my feeling that Steven Moffat, for all his flaws, is actually a pretty good writer, he's just a terrible showrunner. When he's writing stand alone episodes he's usually at bare minimum decent and often, with episodes like Blink, even great, and I think the impression I get is he's good at coming up with ideas and horrible at sustaining them. Every time he brings something back he seems to feel the need to muck it up and make it more confusing and more convoluted and detract from the thing that made it interesting and cool in the first place. Truly the epitome of less is more. You can see it with stuff he introduced in the episodes he wrote during the original RTD era and then brought back as showrunner. The Weeping Angels got less intimidating and more convoluted and dull every time he wrote a new story with them. River Song was never as good a character as she was in her debut episodes because her hot mess of a storyline and backstory completely overrode the things that made her stand out in the Library episodes. Anyway. I don't mind him writing further stand alone episodes but I hope that's all he gets to do. I don't want him having significant input on long-term plot arcs.

scott appreciation week (day 4) → i think it’s my fault
― Andrei Tarkovsky, Journal 1970-1986
#twedit#scottmccalledit#scottmccallweek#dont talk to me about the last gif i dont want to hear it#ive taken one art history class and the only redeeming thing about the last gif is that it kind of looks like a painting almost#with like the faded gauziness and how the tarp almost looks like brushstrokes#I TOOK ONE ART HISTORY CLASS PLEASE DONT BULLY ME ABOUT THIS#and i do think it adds to the effect. like its over. theres no fighting it. hes a saint.#the rest are in focus and vibrant and the last one is kind of blurred out. okay maybe i like it now.#anyway its really about how scott doesnt get to be a kid and so rarely are the adults in his life adults#and its not necessarily their faults. like. very many of them are also human.#deaton steps up for him a lot and melissa does her best and imo only ever really fails bc of poor writing choices#and by s6 when chris is trying to be his stepdad i think he's stepped up in a big way too#but. like. melissa raised a good kid. and shes a good mom. but life still happens and no one really talks abt how scott was parentified too#like. you gave a kid with a fixer complex supwerpowers. he is obviously going to feel the need to be a superhero#he barely got to be a kid before that and he certainly doesn't get to now which we see as early as season 1#when he leaves his friends and girflriend in a room to hide in a room to go fight a monster#he doesnt get to hide. he doesnt get to not fight. by formality he's saying that he has to protect everyone#in fury matt shoots him in front of his mom and makes him leave her and threatens to kill her and he still cant help but show him sympathy#during his Tragic Backstory. like. scott wouldve saved matt if he couldve. i bet he thinks about matt honestly.#WAIT FUCK#FLASHING GIF TW#for the fourth andddddd seventh one#maybe the third one? im not sure but its him breaking thru the mountain ash its all glowy#anyway#scott doesnt get to be a kid and by s5 they forget that he's even a person#and by s6 they try to assert that as a positive#every villain makes him kinder but only because he doesn't have an alternative. it changes him. it can't not change him.#he can't be the same after. so it's kinder or crueler but crueler was never an option.#theyve made him into a saint by robbing him of his personhood

soo...Commander Peepers. How's everything going? We haven't heard from you in a long while and I just wanted to check in to make sure you're alright
Bad. Not really feeling social.
#At least I can write and type now without excruciating pain#I'm telling ya- blasters aren't designed for handling recoil in that direction!#Especially if you- like me- hold it with two hands when you REALLY can't miss the shot! (Which put my arms in an awkward twisted position)#.....................................that stupid dollshit was worse#As in that BULLSHIT with treating me like a doll!!!!!!!!!!!#Oh I cannot WAIT to replace him!!!!!#I've already expanded my search by loosening the watchdog requirement#And since eyeclops USUALLY have at least a little magic potential#If they're not magical powerhouses (which are unfortunately almost mythical with their rarity)#I'm SURE someone who can take him down without being out of place here will contact me to arrange an interview any day now!#Ugggghhhh- the sooner the better#I'm willing to lower my standards further if I don't get any bites by the end of the year#Not only to rid this universe of HIM#But because I'm REALLY sick of this throwaway number's prank calls#normally I wouldn't mind them much#But it sucks to get your hopes up only for some stupid stock joke- y'know?#[[tbh I'm an engineering student and it's finals season so I've been online far less 😭]]#[[3 more days including this one....]]#[[btw Peepers was on bedrest during the end of my spring semester too]]#[[I'm glad me and Joey roleplayed this now because him being injured and depressed is a good way to explain his absence]]#[[he also gets reclusive and depressed when he's forced to stop working]]#[[Because Peepers is bipolar (type I) and he NEEDS that adrenaline/momentum to keep the mania part of it prominent]]#[[so that's another good reason he's not really online]]

i love when characters suck and are bad people like the thing about murphy is that i liked him before he was the incredible wife guy (which is also pretty great, dont get me wrong) but like. i thought he was cool when he was a horrible jackass that everyone hated . like he was interesting before he got morals; he was interesting as a guy who gets lynched in a frontier justice display of retaliation for a murder because he just seems like the kind of dude who would murder someone. and he is! just not that dead guy, specifically. whereas the actual killer is a twelve-year-old girl who the whole crew spends the episode trying to proctect from any kind of punishment, while murph runs around trying and failing to get anyone to admit out loud that the only reason there's a difference between punishing him and punishing her is because he has a bad personality . and also the murders but at that point in the show he hadn't killed anyone, he just seemed like he would
#now the OPTICS of his eventual murder of the guy that lynched him? are abysmal given that murphy is white and connor is black#BUT . that is not a murphy problem that is a showrunners' racial politics are simply completely bankrupt problem#the early-seasons flipflopping between him and finn never ceases to interest me either. his main thing is a sense of antagonistic FAIRNESS#which means that he has no problem helping during the sickness or with food production - doing objectively good things - if they need done#BUT he will also use the opportunity to kill anyone he feels has wronged him; in this case his would-be executors#also anyone who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time#but - even with all that - by the second season he's only killed two people . he's made more attempts; but they all fell through.#finn manages to keep his hands clean for nearly the whole first season and is an adamant pacifist#but grows so emotionally unstable by the second season that he shoots up an entire town full of people and then - just like charlotte -#is defended and protected by many of his crewmates in a way that#had the same event occured but with the roles swapped - murphy shooting instead - would not have happened#and these facts are not lost on murphy! even when he becomes the incredible wife guy#she's the only person who really thinks he has like. a likeable personality#everyone else is like 'well we used to hate him but then we had bigger problems. so he just lives here now. he's all right i guess'#the 100#god i just always have so much to SAY about this shit#love the 100 because it's one of those shows thats bad but NOT so bad that there isn't like a ton of really interesting stuff#to discuss and analyze and reinvent and talk about

I NEED TO VENT. so. I watch the summer i turned pretty with my sister, it's a torture for me to watch every single episode. BUT. i'm not gonna talk about the show (today anyway) but the CAST and FANDOM. so in season 2 they added a non-binary character, Skye, played by Elsie Fisher (amazing actor btw). And ever since the show has been out, the actor have been bullied online by the fandom in a way i've never seen before. People are gonna say "oh, it's because their character are annoying, but not all the fandom is like this" NO. you want the truth ? They're being bullied because they're queer. And they're gonna say "but Jeremiah is bi and we love him!" but he's queer in a way that is meant to not bother the straight cis viewer, he doesn't TALK about his queerness, he just says he makes out with guys as well as girls, that's all we get from him. But when when a queer person DARE to show that they are in fact queer (see: Skye correcting people on their pronouns. And talking about bisexuality, Nick from Heartstopper that people are calling "cringe" for the iconic "i'm bi, actually"), then suddenly they're annoying and cringe and it's okay to be queerphobic, because that's what it is, homophobia and transphobia disguised as "simple online bullying" aka "it's not because they're queer it's because they're weird" but we all know it's not true (who said it was okay to bully someone because they're weird anyway ???). These people only tolerate queer characters if they don't say they're queer. Like i would have liked a scene were Jeremiah talk about bi/pan/liking multiple gender, like not making a big deal about it, but at least aknowledge it??? Like by the way it's not just a goofy traits about me, this is something that is gonna affect my everyday life??? Straight people have this idea that to end homophobia and transphobia WE have to blend in with THEM. They thing the LGBTQIA+ community is putting us AGAINST them, and that if we just act like our queerness is not a big deal then they'll accept us. Which is bullshit btw, they will always find something that they don't like. We will always be an inconvenience to straight people.
Talking about the fandom, most of it is made of 13yrs old so you'll think i'll hold my tong. no, because if you're old enought to bully someone on the internet for who they are, then you're old enought to be told to shut the fuck up. Y'all are just a bunch of mean girls (gender neutral) who got their perfect straight little show with conventionally attractive people and didn't like when a non-binary character that you don't think is attractive enought to deserve basic human respect go thrown into it. You're all a bunch of losers who are so disconnected from the real world that you can't even imagine that not everything is about YOU. Flash news: Queer people exist in real like too. as well as people you don't find attractive. Shocking right?
And about the cast, at first glance most of them looks like nice people, but i just know they also would bully the shit out of people who are different than them and disguise them as jokes. (I won't tell who i think is nice and who i think isn't for my own safety but....people who gets it, gets it.)
The show is garbage anyway, the cast seems like a group of bully from middle school and the fandom is made of the worst people ever. Thank you for listening to me 😁👍🏻.
If you don't agree just block me thank you <3

Just as an intro, yes this post reads VERY white. Unfortunately a lot of recent history is only accessible through white lenses and as I myself am about as white as it is possible to be, I don't have another viewpoint that I can write from with any kind of authority. My lack of experience does not negate anyone else's experiences or views.
In the 80s, being punk was how you showed disdain for conformity. NO, I DON'T Want to be Like You THE WOLRD IS SHITTY AND I AM ANGRY. They were the trash that you warned your kids to stay away from because they were dangerous and violent.
Grunge quickly followed suit with Yeah the world is shitty why do what the boring conformist bougies tell you when you can just do your own thing over here instead. They were the trash you hoped your kids got sick of but the worst parents ever suspected of them was maybe a bit of weed and some clumsy make outs, not that big a deal.
In the late 90s (my teens) it was goths. We are so sick of you and your church and shoving it down my throat with pushing for prayer in schools and Christian Pop Rock all over the billboard top 40. That kid is a witch now and You JUST Don't Get It. Depression is my baseline and the idea of being like you is the cause. We were the trash that were just indulging in a phase and would grow out of it, so we could be humored but mostly ignored (unless your parents were hard core Bible bashers, in which case you would get sent to something akin to conversion therapy - since you were also probably Queer it often was just outright conversion therapy).
Then the emos showed up and people started getting annoyed, partly because suddenly there were goths that you COULDN'T ignore for two reasons, they were LOUD about being sad and THERE WERE SO MANY OF THEM. Since they couldn't be ignored out of existence, the Western world decided to collectively bully them instead. They were the trash that was Just So Damn Cringe!
And now poverty is skyrocketing. Homelessness is a plague that has struck so many people who have committed no crime outside of bad luck. Actual fascists are in positions of power. Planned obsolescence and decades of lobbying by the oil industry in favour of petrol and plastics is destroying everything beautiful about this planet.
And Punk is back. Be ANGRY at your politicians who don't listen. Let your anger be heard so that they know you will not accept these ideas. Grunge is back. It doesn't have to be new, it just has to be functional. Work together to make a community you WANT to live in. Goth is back. Mourn for the world we were promised but never saw. Learn about belief systems that are different to the one you were raised in, ESPECIALLY if doing so pisses off your parents. Emo is back. Fuck haters. Cringe is dead. Being comfortable in your own skin means being allowed to do what YOU want, not having to exist for the benefit of someone else.
Before us it was hippies and beatniks and flappers and dadaists and before them there were the coffee shop philosophers and the point is there have ALWAYS been people who want the world to see its own flaws and fix them. I know other cultures had the same sorts of groups, like the Japanese Subekan gangs (who created the original lolita fashion trend as a way to take femininity back from being sexualized) and Islamic Sufism (an Islamic sect who practice things forbidden by stricter groups, such as singing and dancing) but I'm an armchair scholar, not an expert.
When society is broken, our numbers surge.
We are surging.
Society needs us.

I love how once Parker gets going on doing the right thing she really puts so much effort into that. She wants to do the right thing so badly.
Up on the mountain when leaving the guy behind, she has the conversation with Eliot about the right thing. About how the others would stay, and would die there right next to the guy's corpse. And she hates leaving him there, but she does it. She thinks the right thing to do would be to keep trying, but she doesn't.
But doing the right thing is more complicated than that. Parker figures out something that no one else could have.
She figures out the thing that only someone who is thoroughly unwilling to leave the man behind and is not going to die next to him can figure out.
She looks at his final message, to see if he has any final wishes she can fulfil.
And he does.
His final wish is that no one dies trying to get his body back down.
(And a couple other things, but that's besides the point.)
I think this episode shows that while Parker's style is a little different... she's really good at doing the right thing, especially in situations where it gets complicated because it puts her at risk. She tries until she can't, and then she does the next best thing.
She does everything she can, and then gets back down the mountain so it doesn't go to waste.
