Hypnosis is unreliable for memory recovery, and this is one way we know.
Some of you out there might be considering hypnosis to try and recover memories, whether from early childhood or a past life. You may have already heard criticism of it, but may have also heard that the critics are just trying to shut down important discussions. You may not know what to believe because when it comes to a lot of these memories, there's no real way to either verify or falsify them. After all, if someone goes under hypnosis and seems to remember an older sibling pushing them off a swing when they were five, but nobody else seems to remember this, who's to say who's right, who's misremembering, and who's just trying to protect a mean older sibling? And most past lives people report aren't exactly easy to check.
However, there is one area where attempting to recover memories is pretty popular, and where we can be really, really damn sure that none of these "memories" accurately reflect anything that actually happened.
That area is the starseed movement.
For those who don't already know, the starseed movement is part of New Age, which came out of Theosophy, which came out of the very racist brain of Helena Blavatsky. While not every New Ager believes everything Blavatsky said 100% (if they're even aware of what Blavatsky said), New Age mythology today is fundamentally really super racist.
The ancient astronaut hypothesis, which was created for the purpose of discrediting the engineering capabilities of nonwhite people and for which there is zero evidence to support, is a huge part of it. The mythology also asserts that Earth has been manipulated by a race of reptilian aliens who feed on human flesh, blood, adrenochrome, or even fear, depending on who you ask. The reptilians, supposedly, created religious institutions to control us, control most of the world's wealth, and start unnecessary wars for their own personal gain. For anyone who doesn't recognize the tropes, they're literally just old antisemitic conspiracy theories in a new hat. Most of their material can be traced back to David Icke, who was influenced by Fritz Springmeier, a far right conspiracy theorist. Furthermore, Icke asserted that the antisemitic hoax The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion are basically true, if you make them about reptilian aliens.
There are various races of "good" aliens in this mythology, but the one that's specifically taking the lead in fighting the reptilians are the Pleiadians - beings who (at least initially) were described as tall, pale-skinned, and blond hair. In fact, another term used to describe the Pleiadians is "Nordics," because they were imagined as looking like Nordic people. And why yes, they have been associated with the swastika.
New Agers also believe in places that never even existed, including Atlantis (a fiction created by Plato), Lemuria (a hypothetical continent that was discredited by the discovery of place tectonics), and Mu (supposedly the "real" Atlantis, made up by a guy who claimed that the Maya were descended from Egyptians). Not only is there zero evidence that any of these places existed, but belief in them was often motivated by a desire to attribute the technological and spiritual developments of non-white culture to others. The Emerald Tablets of Thoth the Atlantean, a supposedly ancient book that this guy supposedly received from this mysterious Great White Brotherhood, for example, claims that that ancient Egyptians received their spiritual wisdom from Thoth, a king who fled Atlantis during its destruction.
So in short, just about everything the starseed movement believes in is total bullshit that can easily be traced back to some extremely racist propaganda or hoax. True believers claim that there's an ancient global conspiracy hiding the truth from all of us, but whether or not they realize it, they are invoking The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, that old Russian hoax.
Meanwhile, people in the starseed movement regularly undergo hypnosis to try and recover memories of their past lives. Here are some selections posted by members of r/starseeds:
"The planet had a wooden area with plants and very interesting buildings and one area that looked more desert , with construction similar to pyramids , ecc that were used as transmitters. We had a connection to Egypt . I knew we had to move planet because of a galactic war . Our enemies were reptilians , grays and these mantis beings … they were the ones that killed us in a crash while we were flying over a planet with super red sand and rocks. I’ve had this memory of the crash ever since I was a child but I thought I was imaging it. I am not into scifi movies , aliens or anything ."
"My home planet Artuvia was destroyed by negative forces (reptilian) in the orion galactic war, i left through a portal of light with other beings and came to Earth, i remember the portal, and everything around me falling apart and crumbling, the war was massive and many died, my planet was peaceful and had never known war, so when the war came most of us Mintakans perished, i believe the pleiadians tried to help us, but the planet fell, it was so beautiful there, paradise, i loved it so much it is my only incarnation outside of earth, i spent over 5000 lifetimes there before i came to lemuria, atlantis and agartha."
"Have you researched the planet Artuvia, we were destroyed in galactic wars some 75,000 years ago. Our souls came to earth in a move to protect the galaxy for we are to help create the next generations of starseeds here. From the Orion star system, powered by the star Mintaka. My memories have been resurfacing the last several days. Im getting massive amounts of incomprehensible information that I am reformatting and understanding. Its led me here. I am accessing the Akashic Records."
"Hello when i did past life regression i saw myself living in atlantis with other races, arcturians, lyran felines and others. It was futuristic and more advenced then they showing today, we had medbeds, flyng cars and spaceships, in middle was a some sort of crystal and guardians guarding it. At first i was confused what i was seeing at first i thought it was a island but no it was really atlantis, and one who created was dude named king atlant, thats why its called atlantis."
"The Great Galactic-War was the biggest conflict in this Galaxy. The horrible things that the Reptilians have done to my race are unforgivable, brutal and disgusting. They were eating my brothers and sisters alive. Without any remorese, brutally slaughtering everyone that was standing on their way. You could lose anyone after not paying attention. So many beautiful and precious souls that I couldn't protect were lost to their murderous instincts, so many memories, families, were destroyed. I couldn't watch no more suffering from my brothers and sisters. Blood everywhere. They are coming. Blue ground, chaos."
Oh, and by the way, there are other people who aren't even using hypnosis, apparently - some of them report intense dreams, or having "memories" just randomly come to them. So, that's definitely also a thing to keep in mind.
In any case, if somebody starts pushing you to try hypnosis to recover memories of any kind, I recommend putting some distance between yourself and that person ASAP. Because we can see from the starseed movement that this shit just doesn't work the way a lot of people want to think it does, and it can get you into some bad places.

Are Aliens Real or Just a Figment of Our Imaginations?
Greetings, my fellow earthlings. Today we're going to tackle a question that has been haunting humanity for centuries: are we alone in the universe? I mean, come on. It's 2023 and we still haven't found any concrete evidence of extraterrestrial life? What a bunch of losers we are.
But fear not, my friends. For today, we shall delve into the possibilities of life beyond our planet, and I promise to be just as informative as the History Channel documentaries that have been feeding you bogus conspiracy theories for years.
Let's start with the basics. Scientists estimate that there are over 100 billion galaxies in the observable universe, and each galaxy contains billions of stars. The sheer number of planets in the universe makes it statistically improbable for Earth to be the only planet that harbors life. I mean, we can't be THAT special, can we?
But here's the thing. Even if aliens do exist, why the hell would they want to visit us? We're just a tiny, insignificant dot in the grand scheme of things. Maybe they're too busy living their own lives, building their own civilizations, and coming up with their own conspiracy theories.
And let's not forget about the possibility that aliens might not be the friendly, benevolent beings that we've been conditioned to imagine. I mean, have you seen the movie "Independence Day"? Or "Mars Attacks!"? Or any other sci-fi flick that depicts aliens as murderous, tentacled monsters who want to invade Earth and enslave humanity? Yeah, not exactly the best image.
So, my fellow earthlings, the answer to the question of whether aliens exist is still up for debate. But one thing's for sure: if they do exist, we better hope they're the friendly, ET-type aliens that want to phone home, and not the tentacled, world-conquering monsters that want to turn us into their personal slaves.
That's all for today, folks. Stay tuned for more mind-boggling musings from yours truly.

you wanna hear me talk about my favorite live action movie? of course you do here we go (0 notes)
just a quick nope infodump cuz i have nowhere else to dump my thought about this movie -- i put it under the cut cuz i know some people dont like horror or scary stuff, and some people are planning on watching it and dont want spoilers :]
first this is my thing of how i finally got to watching nope, it can be skipped, the actual infodump starts at the pink text
ok so first of all, nope had caught my attention when i first saw some trailers for it,, then i forgot about it until i saw some fanart for the gordy scene, and i thought it looked so good. so i looked in the comments and people kept talking about that scene. me, being curious, looked up the scene on youtube. and it scared me so bad.
later in the year (2022) i went to universal studios in a family trip. i really enjoyed it but the one part that was my favorite was the studio tour, i love animation and film and cinematography so it was right up my alley. but at the very end of the tour, we went to the new exhibition of it. Jupiter's Claim.
the very same jupiter's claim from the movie (not really just a recreation). they did a whole thing with the aliens and it freaked me out. very fun but i did not expect it so it was alarming to see a set piece from a movie i had little knowledge on and was scared of.
so i did what i usually do to keep my nerves down, started researching it. watching trailers, actor interviews, cinematography etc.
i wanted to see what the movie was about, so i looked it up and read the plot on wikipedia, it did get me less scared of it, but it also really peaked my interest.
when the synapsis described jean jacket's final form, i hadnt imagined it was so big. in my head i thought it was smaller than a person and that it looked like a jellyfish. i was only half right. then once again, i forgot about the movie entirely.
until almost a year later. when i saw a "everything great about" video on nope. i thought, well they usually cut up the movie, and talk through it, so itll basically be like watching the movie.
it was really interesting, so i decided to watch it. now onto my infodump thing im mostly going to be talking about the themes and stuff
HERES THE MOVIE PLOT WHICH I JUST PULLED FROM WIKIPEDIA CUZ I DONT WANT TO WRITE THE ENTIRE THING -- you can skip this if youve watched tho movie, or just skip it if you want idc
[In Agua Dulce, California, the Haywood family trains and handles horses for film productions. One day at the Haywood ranch, small metallic objects violently fall from the sky. One of these objects, a nickel, ends up killing Otis Haywood Sr.
Six months later, his children, Emerald "Em" Haywood and a depressed Otis "OJ" Haywood Jr., are fired from a set after their horse, Lucky, reacts violently to its own reflection in a chrome ball utilized for visual effects. To raise money, OJ has been selling some of the Haywood horses to Ricky "Jupe" Park, who operates a Western theme park called Jupiter's Claim. Jupe exploits his past traumatic experience as a child actor on the set of a family sitcom that costarred a chimpanzee named Gordy. During filming of an episode, Gordy reacted violently to the sound of popping balloons and attacked at least two of his human co-stars, but ultimately left Jupe completely unharmed, before being fatally shot by police.
One night, the Haywoods notice their electricity fluctuating and their horses violently reacting to an unknown presence. They discover an unidentified flying object (UFO) that has been taking their horses and spitting out the inorganic matter, which OJ concludes to have caused their father's death. The siblings decide to document and sell evidence of the UFO's existence, and recruit electronics store employee Angel Torres to set up surveillance cameras. The UFO arrives and abducts a horse as well as a plastic horse Em stole from Jupiter's Claim for use as a decoy.
The next day, Em attempts to recruit famed cinematographer Antlers Holst to help them record the UFO. Holst declines, telling Em that chasing wealth and fame is a "dream you will never wake up from." Angel then arrives and reveals that a cloud in the valley never moves; OJ suspects this is the UFO's hiding place before theorizing, based on the UFO's flight patterns, that it isn't a ship at all.
Jupe introduces a live show in Jupiter's Claim where he plans to use Lucky as bait to lure out the UFO. For months Jupe has been offering the UFO the Haywood's horses for shows. The UFO arrives earlier than expected and devours Jupe and everyone in attendance for the show (including his family and staff), ultimately leaving only Lucky alive. OJ, attempting to retrieve Lucky, confirms his theory that the UFO is actually a territorial, predatory organism. After the creature showers the Haywood household with the detritus and regurgitated remains of the Jupiter’s Claim crowd, OJ realizes that it only attacks those who look directly at it. He devises a plan to record it. Em and Angel are hesitant until Em receives a call from Holst, who now agrees to help. OJ names the organism "Jean Jacket", after a horse that Em as a child was promised to train.
To circumvent Jean Jacket's effect of shutting down all electronics nearby, Holst brings a hand-cranked IMAX film camera. The group plans to bait Jean Jacket with a field of electrically-powered tube man props to deduce its location in the sky. However, a TMZ paparazzo trespasses onto the field and is thrown from his electric motorcycle when it shuts down near Jean Jacket, which devours him. Though Holst captures footage of Jean Jacket, his obsession with "the impossible shot" results in him being devoured alongside his camera, forcing the remaining three to flee. Angel survives an attack from Jean Jacket by being wrapped in a tarp and barbed wire, causing the creature to unfurl into a new, larger form.
OJ intentionally looks directly at Jean Jacket, allowing Em to use the motorcycle to rush to Jupiter's Claim. There, she untethers the park's large helium balloon mascot of Jupe, the large eyes of which attract Jean Jacket's ire. Jean Jacket attempts to feed on the balloon while Em uses an attraction's analog camera to photograph Jean Jacket as it feeds. Its attempt to eat the perceived threat results in the balloon exploding, destroying Jean Jacket. With the picture as proof of the creature's existence and reporters arriving nearby, Em sees an unharmed OJ and Lucky standing outside of Jupiter's Claim.]
WOOO NOW ONTO MY THOUGHTS ON THE MOVIE
we know that 6 months before the events of the movie, oj and em's dad was killed from a nickel that came from the sky and hit him in the eye and went into his brain. in the beginning of that scene we hear a radio news broadcast about some missing hikers. SINCE LATER WE FIND OUT THAT JEAN JACKET SHOOTS OUT THE METAL THINGS HE CANT EAT THAT COIN HAD COME FROM THE HIKERS
ohoho jupe, he's such a well written character. he is so complex. he was traumatized as a child with the gordy incident. he was the only cast member (as far as we know) to come out completely unscathed,,, physically. ----- when oj is trying to set up a path of buying the horses back, jupe says "yeah yeah we can do that" (HE IS A LIAR). and while oj is talking to jupe about that, em interrupts asking about the gordy incident. -- JUPE'S REACTION IS SO INTERESTING, HE TAKES THEM INTO A ROOM WHICH IS DEDICATED TO THIS INCIDENT BUT HE DOESNT ACTUALLY TALK ABOUT THE INCIDENT, INSTEAD HE TALKS ABOUT THE SNL SKETCH!!! HE HAS TURNED HIS TRAUMA INTO ENTERTAINMENT!!! the way i saw it is that he subconciously thinks that entertainment is a purpose, and if he can turn that incident into something that can be consumed by others then what happened wasnt for nothing. what he went through wasnt just a pitiful event in his life. it was something to be consumed. it was a spectacle.
JUPE BELIEVED HE WAS SOME KIND OF CHOSEN ONE, first gordy didnt harm him (which was because of the tablecloth not their so called connection) SO HE THOUGHT HE ALSO HAD A CONNECTION WITH JEAN JACKET
in the opening scene we see the first assembly of photographs to create a motion picture, the jockey riding the horse is oj and em's great great great grandfather, AND IN COMPOSITION OF THE CLOSING SCENE, OJ IS FRAMED LIKE IT
Tumblr media Tumblr media
aaauughh i just love that jean jacket was named after the horse that em was supposed to train, cuz it ended up being her who conquered and killed the alien in the end
I LOVE THAT ANGEL WAS JUST SOME RANDOM STORE EMPLOYEE WHO JUST DECIDED TO BE PART OF THE GANG, LIKE HE DIDNT KNOW THEM BEFOREHAND AND JUST DECIDED TO JOIN THEM ON THEIR SILLY LITTLE ADVENTURE
i feel like holst was a counterpart to jupe, cuz while jupe wanted to exploit jean jacket for money and clout, holst wanted to exploit jean jacket for his art,, and clout,,,, so they were both selfish but it does show that even when you dont exploit or take advantage something for money and just do it for art ITS STILL EXPLOITING
THE THING WITH THE TMZ GUY OUGH I LOVED THAT SCENE. OJ JUST TRIED TO HELP BUT THAT GUY WAS JUST FOCUSED ON GETTING THE CAMERA, AND THEN OJ'S EYES REFLECTED WHICH CAUSED JEAN JACKET TO NOTICE THEM OUUGHHHH
i love how jean jackets forms differentiate for the circumstances, when she's just the disk its just chillin, just feeding and leaving, but once all the stuff happens against it it starts to get more aggressive. so like most animals he makes themself appear bigger, making for a really good shots in the movie
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE PARALLELS BETWEEN GORDY AND JEAN JACKET ARE ALSO INTERESTING, BECAUSE JEAN JACKET ISNT THE VILLAIN, JUST THE ANTAGONIST,, JEAN JACKET IS AN ANIMAL WHO IS JUST EATING, GOING THROUGH THE NATURAL MOTIONS THAT COME WITH BEING ALIVE. AND SO WAS GORDY, GORDY WAS JUST REACTING TO THE SCARE THAT THE BALLOONS POPPING GAVE HIM
I NEED SOME AFTERMATH CONTENT NOWWW, LIKE WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE NEWS STATION? DID THEY CLEAN THE HOUSE? HOW DID EVERYONE COPE??? DID THEY GET THE FAME THEY WANTED!?? I NEED TO KNOW
ok ok so jupes made up aliens? the viewers? THEIR DESIGNS ARE ALSO ROOTED IN HIS TRAUMA,, THE HEADS LOOK LIKE THE CAMERAS USED IN THE FILMING OF THE SITCOM AND THE BODIES RESEMBLE THOSE OF A MONKEY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i would put a picture of gordy on here but it has blood and dont wanna have that here,,, so uhhh if you wanna see him just look up gordy nope
and now some shorter things i really liked
the day for night filming IS SO GOOD
the themes about spectacles and human nature
oj and em's relationship (the siblings ever)
JUPE'S WHOLE DEAL
LIKE HOLY CRAP HE LEAD ALL THOSE PEOPLE TO THEIR DEATH!???
the cinematography is just mmm chef's kiss
all the characters are just so genuine
,, yeah these are obviously not all my thoughts on this movie cuz i think about this movie a LOT,, but i didnt want to overload this thing

Aliens learning of Eldritch Horrors: Lovecraft Mythos
I’m a huge fan of H.P. Lovecraft horror. I know most of the big stories and smaller ones. Cthulhu is horrifying, but honestly there are worse. The big man is one of the saner entities out there.
So I recently pulled down a Lovecraft story book from my shelf and was going back through the stories, and it made me think: how would aliens react to hearing these stories? The idea that reality is simply the dream of one ancient forgotten god, including the lesser gods. I mean, if you actually read them there is some wacky shot in there. A mythos centered around the mysteriousness of the unknown, and a true hell hidden behind blissful ignorance.
Then I thought, “what if aliens discovered these things and had their own mythos?” What if every species has stories like these, but humans have the largest collection of them all? Perhaps aliens know that these things are true, but keep their distance. Then they discover humans and their extensive experiences with these ancient evils. Then aliens do something stupid and humans reveal big secrets yayyyy. Now I’m just spitballing.
Written from the perspective of an alien historian charged with cataloging traces of the Lovecraftian mythos.
WARNING: Depictions of violence, blood, and suicide.
~~~~~~
The tales were old as time. Older than the most ancient of civilizations within the cosmos. Some evidence could always be found within every culture. Whether an art piece, an artifact, or an oral story. But all knew how to deal with such things: leave it be.
As alien races began to connect and introduce their cultures, it became apparent there was more out there than we ever imagined. But we also knew better. We catalogued the tales, the artifacts, every scrap of evidence of these ancient beings, and then we ignored them. If any of the stories were true, we needed to heed the warnings.
But we were not prepared for the Terran race. Humans. A strange alien race from a death world long thought to be uninhabitable. Now found to be beautiful. While smaller and weaker than most races, they make up for it in their cunning and wild attitudes towards the universe. Many races fear their eagerness and unimaginably huge ego, while others welcome it. Such races usually burn out quickly without interference from others. But Humans were… different. They knew how to survive, even their own kind. When we added their knowledges to our libraries, many thought it would be the data we needed to spread into the cosmos.
How wrong we were.
It was an acolyte in charge of sorting through the new data that found it all. The stories. The mass knowledge of the unknown. More than that, they were first hand experiences of the ancient evils thought to be mere myth. Yet here it was. More accumulated knowledge than every race combined.
Granted, the stories told no more about these things than others did. The difference was the accuracy. How the Humans chose to write down every piece of literature and oral history they could remember. It was remarkable. For many a klick then we sat scrounging through these tales, rewriting and translating the words.
The more we read, the more we realized what all this may mean. The Human stories dictated these ancient creatures living on their world, Terra, aka Earth. Countless inscriptions of encounters with unknown beasts and horrors. Yet when asked about such things, the Terrans only shrugged. They said that those stories had long been dismissed as ravings of the old. If such things existed, they would have found them.
It was shocking to find the young race so ignorant of these things, even though we were guilty of the same crime. But we placated ourselves, claimed we only had bits and pieces whereas the Humans had an entire network of evidence. But the Terrans did not care. These were bed time stories to them.
We dove deeper and found that while most Humans dismissed the evidence, there were many who still believed. We were warned against finding those that held more evidence and knowledge, even ancient practices of this lost culture. The humans that believed such things had created communities of wild religious belief, cults that were not afraid to defy human societal law. They were labeled extremely dangerous.
But we dove. We leaped. And we didn’t even look underneath us. We became guilty of doing the one thing Humans were known for without realizing that we were not human. We did not have their instincts nor their rationalization and wild zeal. Their immortal adventurous youth.
We did what we were warned against. We sought out a cult. These humans welcomed us, celebrated with us, danced wildly. They spoke even stranger. They seemed to think we had come not to document their history and knowledge, but to welcome the “old ones” as well. We soon realized we had “jumped from the frying pan and into the fire” as humans would put it. We walked into a deeper hell.
We were shown histories, stories, artifacts, more evidence than a historian could dream of. It was a zircasian mine, to put it plainly. The humans did not defend or act cautiously as we expected. They rejoiced. When asked why, they relented that other humans were skeptics “destined for the black pits” but that they knew we understood. They expected us to help them in some way.
It was horrifying. It was hell. It was worse than any religion could damn their evil to. The humans had tricked us. They took my colleagues, split them open and bled them dry. They committed such horrible acts upon the many colors of blood I dare not write them for others to read. The worse came after.
It was indescribable. I can only depict what I understood. The humans danced and writhed in my colleagues blood as I and Yina’sa watched. They kept us alive to “bear witness to the return.” It was as if the fabric of space was torn, contorted, ripped apart to reveal the hidden void. Black tentacles and appendages slithered out, mouths full of teeth and fangs on the skin. But the worst was the eyes. The eyes of these ancient beasts. They were eyes of all races, yet not. They glowed and swirled, power emanating like a beating heart drumming in my ears. The humans still danced and chanted, screeching with sick delight. The chanting became “unearthly”, deep and strange. As if the humans were no longer just the ones chanting.
That was when I closed my eyes. I tried to block out the sounds, tried to pretend I was anywhere but there. I heard Yina’sa screaming, then laughing her Urulian laugh. She was screeching and cackling just as the humans were, shouting hideous things in her native tongue. I just wanted it to be over, over over Over OVER OVER OVER OV-
Then gunshots. True screams. Then a cosmic screech. As if the universe was crying out in pain. The ground shook. But I kept my eyes shut. The chanting was still repeating in my ears, I could t make it stop.
I barely remembered what happened afterwards. I had to be informed by my rescuers, a team of human soldiers. They had caught wind of our escapade, and had tried to reach us before it was too late. But alas. They had dragged me from that cavern, the only survivor.
I found out that Yina’sa had struck her head against the floor until her skull split open. To find out I was the only survivor among my group was…not ideal.
The humans informed me that they cult we had contacted was one that had been under surveillance for years, suspected of extreme violence and illegal obscenities. The human governments tried to warn us against contact knowing these humans we violent and dangerous. They knew these stories were not false. They had tried to dissuade us for our safety.
But we ignored them. Now blood is spilled, and I shall never forget those blood curdling screams, nor the chant the still beats in my head.
Nah’ka thm da
Nah’ka thm da
Nah’ka thm da
~~~~~~
Wow I kinda went off the rails. Wanted to write about aliens discovering humans having eldritch evidence, then trying to keep humans from finding the eldritch beasts. But then it turned into alien hubris and humans keeping the aliens away from the shit. Surprisingly this was kinda tame compared to my other posts. And for those wondering, I have more Humans are feral stories lined up, don’t worry about it.
Hope you all enjoyed. I wrote this feverishly at 10am, so I apologize for grammar and spelling mistakes.
Let me know if you have other suggestions for stories, and if you want me Lovecraftian stuff. Love writing about eldritch monsters.

Ok first id like to share some good news: finished all my tests for the semester, and i think i only failed like 2 or 3!! More good news, more fics that ill get around to writing!! Or ill just post my unfinished drafts. I mean there's a yandere Jake (platonic dad yandere) fic and a "spider w permanant brain damage from the scanner fic" and even more just absolutely collecting dust in my drafts
New idea that I'll def finish this time tho: Humans but there unrealistically better than they are. There's no RDA, no big mining operation, no deforestation or driving natives out or dying earth, just humans being natural born explorers who are mind blown at an entire different planet with life.
And that's wild! They thought they were alone, the universe looking back on itself, explorers of a vast and endless yet lonely expanse. Then boom! Life! Life on a different planet, life so different yet similar. A life that has their own culture and languages, that's so intertwined with nature, they're capable of forming a deep connection at a moments notice! That's amazing! (Forgive me for my amazement, watching Rio and i just love the movie)
Anyway, in this au with no evil corporation only interested in money heading this operation, humans are way nicer! And weirder.
I imagine the Na'vis early experiences w humans are like what some of us think that aliens are doing (crop circles, abducting cows, just standing around naked) (and i say naked because most photos of aliens have em in no clothes. Or they're wearing a full body grey suit). I imagine that at first they don't believe humans are real because they don't show themselves often, only spotted by like a handful. Like "i saw this small pink creature by the river today! It had hair and eyes and hands and feet, and walked on it's legs!" "What the Eywa are you talking abt"
I imagine the first human they meet is a weirdo who's exceptionally brave. They walk up to a Na'vi and just start speaking in the most nonsensical Na'vi ever, that they managed to learn from observing them. They just follow them atound all day, keeps saying Na'vi phrases until whoever they're following just walks to camp and presents them and they're like "hey what is this."
Or, alternatively
Humans try staying away from them cause they're like twice their size and capable of making weapons, except for one person. This one spends their time following around a specific Na'vi and annoying them. They hum little tunes, they're spotted once and disapear behind the trees, they're daring enough to get ahold of their tools and try to study them. Then they start trying to communicate with them, little phrases yadda yadda. All while the Na'vi is going back home like "no mom, i promise i didn't loose my knife, this small pink creature stole it!"
They're like so fed up with the human and everyone around them cause they're like "what are you talking abt" so they're trying to get evidence of their existance. Eventually they do get them and present them to the tribe like "see!! I told you they were real!!!" And they're like "huh. Ok. What is this thing."
Dont have any idea how im gonna further w this but ye! Humans are way nicer and not run by a greedy corporation au
VERY EXCITING! I'm very sure you didn't fail anything. I want bOTH of those collecting dust drafts please and thank you.
No Rio and Avatar have been going hand and fucking hand lately lol. This idea is so fucking funny dude. I'm CACKLING. I absolutely adore the idea of humans being perceived as the aliens in any context and just how weird that would be, and it's not touched upon ENOUGH in Avatar because we come into the world when they have known each other. Hit us with that Grace and Mo'at developing friendship dude. I've always loved that and wanted it explored more.

Fear The Man That Fears No God
My mom was watching something on Netflix a bit ago called the "3 Body Problem" about aliens coming to earth to kill us & take over.
You know, the norm.
But she & I both noticed some very antireligious ideas in it.
Something that really stuck out to me was something that this nuts-o physicist lady named Ye Wenjie said.
Turns out, she was the one who first contacted the aliens as a young woman. Her father had just been killed by a group of atheists who were mad that he wouldn't say that there was no God.
Instead, he said the most honest thing from his perspective, that there was no conclusive (secularly accepted) evidence one way or the other.
And they didn't like that answer.
She contacted the aliens & essentially said, "help us, we've messed things up."
Which is what drew them there.
Now, what got me sputtering like an idiot in confused disbelief was this weird, sacrilegious story that I have zero idea where it came from.
---
"So Einstein dies. He finds himself in heaven, and he has his violin. He's overjoyed. He loves his violin more than physics. Even more than women. He's excited to find out how well he can play in heaven. He imagines he'll be pretty damn good. So he starts tuning up, and the angels rush at him.
'What are you doing?' they say.
'I'm getting ready to play.'
'Don't do that. God won't like it. He's a saxophonist.'
So Einstein stops. He doesn't play. But it's difficult. He loves music. And there's actually not much to do in heaven. And sure enough, from high above, he hears the saxophone. He's playing 'Take the 'A' Train', do you know that one? Einstein knows it too. And he thinks, I'm going to do it. I'm going to play with him. We're going to sound great together. So he starts playing 'Take the 'A' Train'. The saxophone stops, and God appears. He marches over to Einstein and kicks him in the balls, which hurts, even in heaven. Then he smashes Einstein's beloved violin to bits. Eternity without music. Heaven has become hell for Einstein. And as he writhes on the ground, holding his smashed balls, an angel comes over and says: 'We warned you: Never play with God.'"

Like, I get that it's supposed to be some sort of joke that's supposed to help Saul later, I think.
But this when added with the Sophons, which feels like an attempt to suggest that anything miraculous that happens is just a delusion. (Which is dumb, because miraculous things happened even before Ye made contact with them, so the Sophons weren't behind them at all.)
As well as the portrayal of a handful of religious individuals as following the Sophons despite the fact that they themselves say that they are just microscopic computers the size of a photon. They also say that they are incapable of telling lies, which is their purported reasoning for wishing to get rid of humanity. As they believe it means that they are incapable of co-existing.
Seems to suggest that this was a very antireligious show. Not just anti-Christian. Not just atheistic or areligious. Antireligious.
Which... considering how religion is one of the cornerstones of culture, isn't a great stance to take.
But, I can't help but wonder if the author of the books missed something.
Like, yes, people do terrible things in the name of God, but what I fear most is the sort of things that people would do in the name of no God.
For one, it's speculated that Hilter may have been antireligious. That the only God he worshipped was the laws of the universe & is quoted as having said that science, not religion, that would pave humanity's way forward. Heck, he used science at the time as an excuse for his antisemitism.
And Stalin was an atheist.
In other words, it matters not who they pray to, if someone wishes to do terrible things, then they'll do them regardless of whether they have an excuse or not.
Fear the man who fears no God. Fear those who worship only science, for it is ever-changing & they will use the current understanding of it as an excuse to commit evil. But even more than that, fear he who worships only himself. For they who do will commit terrible acts far beyond any other.

Windarian eyesight and color perception - an indepth analysis
Tumblr media
So, you've heard of "Kaze sits like a shrimp", get ready for the sequel, "Kaze sees like a shrimp."
So, pentachromacy.
The more I think about it and research, the more I lean into the idea that Windarians could be natural pentachromats. In comparison humans are trichromats, with approximately 12% of women carrying the genetic code for a mutated additional cone receptor, which means we can be tetrachromats, but only if we're genetically female. This is because tetrachromacy requires two copies of mutated cone receptor genes, and those are found exclusively on the X chromosome.
Before we get into the real stuff, a quick refresher: cone cells are responsible for color perception, and the basic types are R, G, and B which cover the respective wavelength ranges. Rod cells manage low-light/movement vision. We'll mostly be talking about cones here.
For reference, this is a human's visible spectrum: note the three cone cell types.
Tumblr media
Each new cone receptor increases visual color perception by orders of magnitude. For comparison, humans supposedly see one million different colors. Tetrachromats see up to 100 million. In some animals, the additional cone extends the visual spectrum into UV, which is also the case with Windarians.
Tumblr media
...Now, pentachromats might see up to 10 billion.
On Earth, animals which are natural pentachromats include some birds (notably pigeons) and shrimp. Some of you may be familiar with the memeing surrounding shrimp vision, with imaginary / non-visible spectrum colors dubbed "shrimp colors". In reality, even the idea of there being more "visible" colors is highly speculative, with no real actual scientific evidence for their existence. Then again, it's difficult to imagine something that simply does not exist for you, since you have no concept of it whatsoever and thus, no frame of reference - compare to achromatics attempting to imagine any color besides the grayscale, or sufferers of deuteranomaly visualizing red or green.
The usual way tetrachromacy is diagnosed in humans is asking someone to differentiate between sets of colors with increasing amounts of similarity, by rating said similarity on a scale from 1-10. They then might be shown the same pair of colors later on, and asked to rate their similarity once again. If they give the same answer as last time, they can actually see the variance. If not, it's likely there is guesswork at play and the person is not an actual tetrachromat. (Obviously, there is genetic testing as well. This is just the empirical approach.)
Look at the image below. For most trichromats without major sight anomalies, it'd be pretty clear these two colors are different, even without stacking them close and searching for the division line.
Tumblr media
Now do the same with this image. The same color, or different?
Tumblr media
Here is another image which may be useful in determining your color sensitivity. The more bands you see, the higher your score.
Tumblr media
I repeat again. Trichromats are estimated to see around one million colors. Kaze is a pentachromat. That is ten billion. Four orders of magnitude of a difference.
Furthermore, the amount of cone cells, not merely the amount of their types, also matters here. A human eye commonly has around 200,000 receptors per square milimeter. A Windarian eye would be more comparable to an avian one, with upwards of 1,000,000 receptors per square milimeter, with a similarly high amount of ganglion nerves to relay the information with even more acuity. Then there's the amount of different light-reactive proteins (opsins) but that's getting into too much detail.
Though my Windaria isn't hard scifi by any means (there's magic and, well. They are the cliché "alien human" trope) I was still wondering about the evolutionary benefits of such enhanced vision in their case. Being a planet of primarily sprawling deserts and steppes, Windaria's landscapes tended to be bleak. Enhanced color vision allowed Windarians to see more variation in hue more easily, potentially picking out camouflaged predators and prey that would elude a human dropped into the same setting.
Coupled with their well-developed tapetum lucidum, Windarians were genetically designed to be predatory, being able to differentiate between hues in low-light environments as well, which further helped them spot danger or meal opportunities. Another aspect of their vision which aids in this is keen movement detection. Similarly to our eyes, a Windarian's naturally homes in on movement. Their focal point is also slightly larger, regulated at will.
Windarians possess stronger ciliary muscles which can change the shape of the lens faster and more accurately than in humans. This allows for better adaptation and accomodation alike. This is very useful in high-speed tracking, making Windarians exceptional snipers. An experienced Windarian gunman could easily shoot a bird right out of the sky at a moment's notice.
There is a facet of visual ability that is higher in Mistericans, however - and that is panoramic vision (very useful in flight, when the environment is open in 360 degrees), which Windarians do lack in favor of more accuracy in their own field of vision.
Chimerical colors
We're entering a more fantasy-science/speculative zone here, but do also have a look at one of my blog's oldest headcanons, and that is Kaze being able to perceive chimerical colors. For reference, an image:
Tumblr media
The three categories here are Stygian, Self-luminous, and Hyperbolic colors. These are present in Soil - a human would perceive them as regular colors (as in, Hyperbolic Orange being normal orange) whereas Kaze can see them in a distinct way and name them accurately. Some of his Espers require chimerical Charges to summon, such as Madeen and Pallidor.
The original headcanon post attached here.
Aura perception
Not to be confused with aural perception, which is a term in music. Purely fantasy ramblings below.
Aura perception is a Windarian's ability to perceive shifts in magic fields, or souls, something that is impossible for a member of a tetrachromatic species. This is also the reason why Kaze can see past certain illusions or manners of invisibility - perceiving the slight air particle movements and color shifts that result from warped space. A good example to use would be cloaking tech used by the Predator, from the franchise of the same name. That one even humans can see if focusing adequately, but the reason why it's so deadly is the fact our eyes literally cannot pick out and focus on such small shifts in a constantly moving world. A Windarian, however, is much more adept at picking up on light distortion - allowing them to track a cloaked foe almost completely seamlessly.
Another great example of Kaze's aura perception is, of course, what I like to call "the White Cloud effect".
Tumblr media
Often in my writing you will come across mentions of Kumo "glowing" - this is because Kaze can naturally perceive the shifts in his aura, or the state of his soul. This glow effect is present in most sapient creatures with sufficiently powerful auras, though it is not nearly as potent as in Kumo's case - as he is Unlimited, and houses a deity. This special type of perception allows Kaze to judge emotion or intent more accurately, based on the fluctuation of the aura. As such, he is able to tell when someone lies with a higher degree of accuracy. Deceiving Kaze face-to-face is almost impossible.
Being the host of Bahamut's Magun - the Imhullu - further enhances Kaze's sight, allowing for a "Gun Demon mode", which gives him access to infrared vision and generally improves overall visual acuity and reaction time. In this state, his pupils turn into crosshairs, and it's the squivalent state to Kumo's own soul-tapping. When accessing their bond with their Demon Weapons and their powers wholly, both of the Unlimited's eyes glow. In Kumo's case, the glow is white, and in Kaze's, blue.
Tumblr media
Here is the original headcanon post for Gun Demon Eyes.
Additionally, headcanon mythology post for Bahamut's eyes.
And that's it for now, a monster of a post that hopefully explains well just how powerful Kaze's eyes are. Similarly to Mistericans possessing naturally heightened hearing as part of their Mist-borne nature, Windarians' continued existence around Soil caused their vision to evolve further beyond that of an Earth human. Considering Mist as an element represents sound and vibration, while Soil represents the chromatic spectrum, it only makes sense for the two elements' attuned Unlimited to possess adequately sharpened senses.

You had thrown your wards back up but knew that any of the Endless who had been paying the slightest attention, would have picked up on the additional energy signature. They would know that a child of an Endless had been created, and surely would know that it was you who were afflicted. None of the others held relationships. It was all the damning evidence any of the Endless needed to prove your twisted love. The growing life within your womb could wreak havoc and destruction on your way of life. It could alienate you from others, earn you disdain, disgust, worst of all? Disappointment.
But at the same time, it was something you and Morpheus had made out of pure, unadulterated, adoration and reverence. There was nothing twisted in the life that grew within you. No, it was pure and innocent from its parent's sinful love. Regardless of how you felt your station was within the Endless family, they all saw you as a little sister. A little sister who was now pregnant by her older brother. You dropped your face into your hands and let out a strained whimper. Zinnia tried to comfort you in your time of tumultuous and worrying thoughts.
“Dawn, surely this is not the end as you imagine.” She whispered gently. “You said it yourself upon your creation, you were not made to be a sibling, and you have never acted as one. Can you really call your beautiful love twisted and immoral when there was nothing wrong with it in the first place?” You knew she was correct, but you feared what Morpheus would think. He had been against your relationship in the first place, not wanting to ruin you or take advantage of your innocence. You really needed to speak with him, but first, you had to clean yourself up to a presentable look.
You were sweaty, had dirt and other garden stains on both your dress and skin, and in all honestly looked to be a complete mess.
“Would you please have Rosea ready a bath for me?” You asked Zinnia, raising your tired eyes to your faithful companion. She smiled and nodded.
“Of course, my lady,” She helped you up from the seat you had taken for nearly three days straight. You felt disgusting and needed a deep clean… but not one from a snap of your fingers. No, you needed to pamper and relax your mind. Clear it of the troubles that riddled its vast network and reassure your mind that all would be well. All would be well, you just had to speak with Morpheus. Only he could give you surely lasting reassurance. Your dove fluttered over to your palms and you held her in front of you.
“I didn’t know that I was made with the ability to procreate, my dove,” You whispered to her. “I— I had never considered that it would be part of my function. I thought I was just here to service humanity… what reason did Mother Night and Father Time have to give me such an ability?” Your dove cooed at you, nuzzling the flesh of your thumb and wrist with her head. She was trying to convey reassurance that your creators had made you to be exactly as you were, and certainly hadn’t made any mistakes in your creation. You brought her up to your face and you touched foreheads, she sent you feelings of hope and peacefulness. Opening your eyes, you gave her a strained smile before letting her take flight once more.
Making your way towards your bathroom, you found Rosea humming while scurrying about, carrying different towels and bath oils. She glanced at you.
“I’ve added lavender and dried lemon peel to the water, my lady, tis ready to receive you.” Rosea hummed at you. You nodded and reached for the pins on your shoulders. Releasing them and undoing the belt resting just under your bust, your dress fell to your feet leaving you bare. You couldn’t help but glance down at your unchanged stomach. Within your womb was a little flickering life blooming from the love you shared with Morpheus. Was there really something so wrong with loving Morpheus? You shook your head and settled your mind and gaze at the perfumed bath in front of you.
You stepped down into the bath and sighed as the hot water washed over your tired and fatigued body. Sinking into the water and finding a comfortable sitting position, you gently rested your hand on your stomach and leaned your head back, trying to let the lavender and lemon envelop your senses and mind. When Rosea returned to your side, she knelt behind you and gathered your hair in her fingers. With gentle hands, Rosea began combing your hair into an untangled state and then ran a cleansing potion that smelled of roses and orange, through your locks. The bath had its desired effect and by the time Rosea was wrapping you up in a robe all you felt was slight nervousness.
Your handmaidens always knew how to ease your mind and body. Perhaps they knew you better than you knew yourself.
Sitting at your vanity, Rosea fell into a pattern of brushing your hair while you thought of how you might approach the conversation you needed to have with Morpheus. Perhaps he would merely question you about why your wards had dropped in the first place. Yes, you hoped that he would be curious enough to lead the conversation himself, for you had not one idea how to broach such a topic as him fathering the child currently growing within your womb. By the time Ruta fluttered into your room, a new chiton for you to wear in her arms, your hair had been combed to perfection.
Ruta and Rosea dressed you and fussed over your image, trying to highlight your natural beauty and return you to the picture of nature's absolute perfection. You might have looked like it on the outside, but on the inside, you were shaking with nerves you had never felt before. When you were finally dressed and ready to travel to your galley to request permission to physically travel to The Dreaming, Ruta came to a stop in front of you and gathered your face in her hands.
“Dawn, if Lord Dream knows what is good for you and himself, he will treat you as you deserve and as we know him. With complete love and reverence as he has displayed for centuries.” Hope glimmered within your essence. Yes, you knew just how much Morpheus loved you, adored you. You had felt it many a time when your essences were joined in complete bliss and eternal rapture. Surely he would never be the cause of any of your pain and anguish. He would never intentionally hurt you. You nodded at Ruta and took a deep breath. It was time to face your fears and hope that everything would turn out well.
—————————
It was as if Morpheus had expected you to request to travel to his realm for the moment you started speaking your request, he didn’t even let you finish the formal words before welcoming you. It was odd, Morpheus was very by the book and had a deep appreciation for tradition. Perhaps he was unsettled by your brief moment of distress that you had inadvertently allowed to flow when your wards were down. Yes, you would settle on that answer so your anxiety didn’t creep back into your mind.
Slowly making your way through the village markets, you smiled and waved to the residents to maintain your appearance as a put-together Endless and Lady, there was no reason for them to worry about you, those back in your realm already worried enough about you. So you put on a performance, showing them your usual happy and carefree self that glowed with hope and renewed energy. It wasn’t hard. It just wasn’t as natural as it should have been. Making it to the bridge to the palace, you slowed down in your cheerful walk, the sight of it solidifying the tension within your being. But you had to get this over with, you couldn’t do this alone, and was Morpheus not the being you loved with everything you had?
Hope surged in your veins as your eyes caught sight of the extraordinary sunset behind the palace. Ah yes, your hope was always strongest at this time of day, so with a happy smile on your face, you picked up your pace toward the palace. Gliding into the gilded palace, you quickly made your way to the throne room. You found it to be empty. Odd, perhaps he was in the library… Making your way to Lucienne’s domain, you peek down the aisles and checked all of the tables. He was nowhere to be found, perhaps you would need to use your essence to find him…
“My lady?” You turned in place to see Lucienne peering at you over her spectacles. You smiled at her.
“Hello, Lucienne, do you, perhaps, know where Morpheus currently is? I wish to speak with him about a sensitive topic he no doubt has questions of his own.” You explained, your fingers twisting together in front of you. Lucienne readjusted her glasses and nodded.
“I assumed so, Lord Morpheus seemed rather… bothered, by something naught three days past,” Lucienne answered you, and she nodded her chin upwards. “I believe he is at his workshop.” Of course she had taken notice of Morpheus's mood, she had been his raven and probably knew Morpheus better than he himself did. You thanked her and transported yourself just short of the workshop where Morpheus sculpted his Dreams and Nightmares.
You saw his back, standing majestically against the backdrop of the Ocean of Dreams. You watched him for a moment, trying to convince yourself that you were simply admiring his Endless beauty… but deep within yourself you knew that you were only stalling the inevitable. So you stepped forwards until you were only but a few paces away from him. You knew he sensed you, had known of your presence the moment you appeared within his realm… but he didn’t turn around immediately. No, he left you waiting for a few precious seconds before finally turning his incredible silver-blue gaze on you. You opened your mouth but Morpheus beat you to it.
“We need to discuss recent events,” His voice was unusually cold, devoid of his usual soothing timbre. You didn’t like it and resisted a flinch.
“Yes, I believe we do.” You replied evenly, your fingers picking at the skirt of your dress. “Morpheus, I—“
“I felt it,” He interrupted you. “We all did.” Your eyes flickered in uncertainty. All of the Endless now knew of your condition, this was… worrisome. You wished to get your head on your shoulders and speak with Morpheus before the others knew… but of course, it wasn’t to be. You were all interconnected. Pursing your lips, you took a step forwards, not liking the sudden distance you felt between you and your lover. He held a hand up and you physically felt his want for you to remain at bay. You froze in place.
“Morpheus,” You whispered, feeling as if all your fears were coming to light now. “Morpheus, what has happened… I did not think it to be within my design—“
“But you are, Dawn,” You flinched, unable to hide the stinging pain that flashed across your face. When was the last time he had addressed you as something other than my love or my Hope? You couldn’t remember. His eyes were tinged with silver. Warning. “I knew that to give in to such fantasy was wrong, twisted, and it appears that there is physical evidence of our… indiscretions.” His words stung viciously. For Morpheus to paint your love as something so careless, an error, wrongdoing, it hurt so much. It was clear that upon learning that you now carried the physical result of your love, he thought your relationship to be a gross mistake.
“Why do you believe it to be a mistake?” You whispered, tears gathering along your eyelashes. Morpheus looked away, unable to bear the clear hurt upon your face despite knowing that this was what he wanted, what he had to do. “Morpheus,”
“You should address me as Dream, sister-mine.” This time, you couldn’t help but rear back as if he had physically struck you. “And I broke my rules for you despite knowing better.” It was like he was twisting knives into your essence on purpose, driving you away, ripping the threads you had woven together in deep intimate connections, apart.
“You don’t mean to speak those words, I know you don’t,” You uttered, struggling to not collapse under the threatening heartbreak. Morpheus— Dream, harshly scoffed, his eyes growing cold like dying embers of a fire, black and charred, dead from heat and passion.
“What a plot twist you have been, Dawn, but all stories must come to an end.” Those cruel words shattered what little hope you had left, but you stood so frozen in place, your body forgetting to let the gathered tears fall. It was clear that your star, your precious and bright star that had filled you with such life and happiness, burned out. It was clear what Dream’s point of view on your situation was. It was one thing to have you, but to have physical evidence of your love for all to see? No, he was ashamed of his actions, ashamed of your love, ashamed of you. Deep within your body, your precious essence that Mother Night and Father Time had so lovingly woven, ripped at the edge.
 “Is this really what you wish for? After all this time?” You whispered, his gaze didn’t falter. He truly was driving you away, disgusted by what you had you and he had created together. Dream’s silence was more than enough of an answer. “I can see that I am no longer wanted… brother.” The word felt like poison on your tongue, wrong, a misnomer. He was never your brother, he had never been your brother. Need would be your brother. Not you. “I will see myself out.” You disappeared right then and there, leaving behind barren stardust and dead, brittle flower petals.

We are not God. We cannot become God, make God, or speak with the authority of God. This is axiomatic and the beginning of wisdom and prosperity.
Because we are not God, we cannot know the full nature of God, or even for certainty whether God exists at all. As a result, we cannot know any purpose, including ultimate purpose, each of our lives may have. Because we cannot know the full nature of God, should He exist, nor any purpose our lives may have in His sight, we lack the authority to compel the beliefs of others, lest we lead them into ultimate error. In particular, we therefore lack the authority to alienate anyone, self or other, from the possibility of fulfilling that purpose. In short, lacking the authority of God, we lack justification for the compulsion of our fellow man.
In that we all lack the authority of God and thus any justification for the compulsion of our fellow man, all men are created politically equal. Nothing in the world, which is also not God, justifies an intrinsically limited human being to hold political or social authority over another without the consent of both parties to that relationship. Any authority we can hold over any other person must therefore be earned, provisional, temporary, and voluntarily given and accepted.
Men, by their morally limited nature, which is sometimes called “fallen,” often seek to compel the belief, speech, and action of other men, both for good reasons and bad. The primary mechanisms by which a man can successfully compel another man to belief, speech, or action are through credible threats to his life, liberty, and livelihood, generally recognized in the last case as his property. Further, because of the nature of the ultimate privacy of conscience, which men may have any number of good reasons to keep private from other men, undue violation of the privacy of man and the contents of his mind can coerce him. Any who can destroy another’s life, liberty, or livelihood, or sufficiently violate his privacy, can compel his belief, speech, and activity and thus alienate him through destruction or compulsion from any potential ultimate purpose he may have. Only God could possibly hold such authority, and we are not God. No man can justify claiming such authority.
Thus, we hold these truths to be self-evident: that we are not God, and by virtue of that, we have been endowed by that which led to our existence, our Creator, whether the Laws of Nature or Nature’s God, with certain unalienable rights, and that among these are his life, liberty, and property, including the property of the private contents of our minds, and the ability to make use of these to pursue our happiness, fortunes, and whatever purposes, ultimate or otherwise, there may be within and of our lives.
These rights and the privacy necessary to maintain them shall be set aside and therefore, in light of the original meaning of the word, regarded as holy.
Because men must nevertheless live among one another in as much peace and in pursuit of as much prosperity as we may attain, some political system—a just government—needs to be instituted among them not for their rule but for the securing of these holy and unalienable rights. The primary purpose of a just government is therefore to secure these rights and to facilitate the peaceful resolution of conflicts and disputes that arise between men as a result of them and their individual differences.
What must such a government abide by, then, so that it can achieve this sacred task without itself alienating man from that which is unalienable? Government, too, is not God, no matter in what way it is instituted among men. It cannot become God, neither can it make God, nor can it speak or act with the authority of God. It must abide by limitations of nearly every imaginable sort and must secure the inalienable rights of man from itself and others.
Because a government lacks the authority of God, a just government has no intrinsic political authority over the men among whom it is constituted. That is, a just government cannot rule, and it cannot govern except with the consent of those whom it governs. Since government cannot usurp the authority to rule, law must rule in its place, subject to mechanisms of production and amendment that guarantee the participation and consent of those over whom it rules. In that none possesses any special political authority, none can be exempt from the law that is instituted among men for their own just governance.
All governments, including a just government, must possess and wield political authority, however, including to produce and enforce the law, which rules in its stead. That authority in a just government is of the people, by the people, and for the people, and as such it is all loaned political authority ultimately answerable at any time to the people it governs, is provisional, and subject to limits of time, scope, and checks and balances on its power.
A just government must be democratic in nature to obtain the consent of those it governs, but it cannot secure the rights of the few against the many unless the democracy is republican in application. Servants must be consented to by the people they represent. Fair and impartial elections must be held at intervals to loan political authority to public servants and to pass it to others at want or need, or else it usurps an authority greater than itself to which it can claim no right. The greater must be given a say and the lesser must be granted enough representation to counter the tide of opinion held prejudicially or negligently against it.
A just government must secure the rights of speech, press, protest, and petition or it cannot be held to account and the consent with which it governs cannot be duly informed. Its powers must be limited, divided, and placed into a system of checks and balances to prevent it from any illegitimate claim to rule with political authority it cannot have. Government is not God because we are not God. Just governments understand this and keep it. Unjust governments reject this and run afoul of it and the men they are meant to serve.
A just government cannot compel the beliefs, speech, or actions of men because it lacks any such authority, which cannot even be given on loan, and consequently it cannot deprive men of their lives, liberties, or properties, or a reasonable expectation of privacy, without the due process of law pursuant to its solitary sacred objective: to secure the inalienable rights of those whom it serves and protects. It therefore must secure the right to believe, speak, and worship as well as the rights to defend oneself against any and all attempts to alienate men from those fundamental rights which he retains inalienably.  It cannot punish cruelly or unusually, torture, or compel any man to profess his own guilt.
Because individual belief and conscience is self-evidently inviolate, just government consequently must also secure a right to privacy without interference in private spaces and a reasonable expectation of limited privacy even in public spaces. In that governments are not God, because we are not God and they are instituted amongst us, they have no authority to violate the inner sanctity of the human mind in any person, neither to torture, nor to surveil persons without justified suspicion or manipulate their beliefs, actions, or environments so as to coerce them against their self-determined will. Instead, as with our other unalienable rights, just governments have a duty to secure a reasonable right to privacy between citizens and hold no right to violate that right themselves. Because we also are not God, none of us individually has any such authority over one another either.
As with just governments, just individuals must obtain any social or political authority they hold over another man by obtaining his consent. Because none possess intrinsic authority over others, consent to hold political authority must not be absolute and should be given freely and under contract according to merits and on terms determined by both relevant parties to be acceptable to each. Political authority between adults is therefore extended by virtue of demonstrated competence that is compelling to those in the relationship. Just governments should secure these arrangements and establish courts of justice to facilitate the resolution of conflicts between parties. The courts must adjudicate the law with impartiality, favoring neither the greater nor the lesser, and only under such judicial restraint should just men submit to the court. Arbitrary power must be resisted, and any doctrine of nonresistance against arbitrary power and oppression is absurd, slavish, and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind. Courts must therefore be impartial in carrying out the law.
Because belief cannot be compelled, likewise, none possess the authority to compel another to believe in any idea, right or wrong, true or false. Therefore, no proposition is to be regarded as true or good by virtue of he who made it. Every proposition earns its authority through processes of validation that demand it survive challenge by competing ideas that ultimately must be brought to bear against our best assessment of the laws of nature of objective reality or of God’s Creation, which by definition cannot be wrong or false and rest outside of but are accessible to each and every man. Men can establish themselves as authorities, to which others can consent or not, based upon their demonstrated capacities to determine that which is right and true through the successful applications of their talents and perceptions. In that every man is not God, which is to say he is limited and finite, no man obtains special or final authority on any of his proclamations of rightness or truth and must consent to seeing his own ideas challenged by those of others.
Because our right to our own property is inalienable, so is our right to do with our property what we will so long as it doesn’t violate the inalienable rights of others. In other words, we have the right not only to hold our property but to engage in commerce with it according to the principles of free enterprise under the law. Property can be exchanged by any two parties who mutually consent to the terms of the contract of exchange without undue interference by third parties, and a just government should secure this right to engage in commerce under its duty to secure the rights of each citizen’s property.
In summary, we are not God. The consequences of this self-evident proposition are vast. None of us possesses the authority to compel another or his belief because we lack in our limitation understanding of the significance of any error against his intrinsic value and potential purpose made in that way. We therefore self-evidently start the project of organizing our society from a position of political equality with certain rights that are inalienable, among these life, liberty, property, capacity for their use toward our happiness and purposes, and a reasonable expectation of privacy in which we can maintain their sanctity. Lacking authority to rule over one another, we are ruled instead by law and merit and lend social and political authority in limited ways as such through processes that are open in their nature and that may best determine these as objectively as we may. Individual belief is sacrosanct not because any man is God but because every man is not. The individual is politically inviolate because he is the vessel of his own sacrosanct individual belief.
Together, these provocative and humbling ideas and the social and political project they define have a name. These are classical liberalism.

The Astronaut’s Wife (1999)
Tumblr media
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
Rosemary’s Baby is given a fresh coat of paint in The Astronaut’s Wife. Well, theoretically anyway. Neither sexy nor scary, it’s the kind of movie that might’ve had potential but didn’t even try. Talk about a letdown.
After a communications blackout while orbiting the earth, NASA astronaut Spencer Armacost (Johnny Depp) returns home to his wife, Jillian (Charlize Theron), and vows never to fly again. When his co-pilot Streck (Nick Cassavetes) suddenly dies and Spencer begins exhibiting strange behavior, Jillian wonders if he's still human, and what sort of baby is growing inside her.
If you’ve seen Rosemary’s Baby there’s no reason to see this film. If you haven’t you may not be able to foresee the story’s beats… but I doubt it. Everything it does you’ve seen better elsewhere. We’re supposed to wonder whether Jillian is imagining the strange noises she hears coming from the radio, if Spencer’s radical personality shift is nothing to be alarmed about and if Dr. Sherman Reese (Joe Morton)/his theories are pure hogwash. You never do. There is simply too much evidence siding towards the theory of Spencer having been replaced or somehow possessed by some kind of extraterrestrial being. You would only believe him human if a) we received concrete proof that Marzoids don’t exist b) someone proved they do exist but have better things to do than spawn human-alien babies or c) Jillian was just a straight jacket away from the loony bin or otherwise untrustworthy. You might’ve been able to get away with it if the character of Sherman Reese wasn’t there. As a matter of fact, why is he in this movie?
The Astronaut’s Wife would’ve been better if it were worse. You’ve got Johnny Depp. You’ve got Charlize Theron. It’s about a woman who thinks she’s been impregnated by a little green man but there’s no nudity and no tantalizing sex scenes. Talk about lame. I was bored waiting for the film to catch up to what I already knew. I know you’d be bored too. The only thing that could have saved this movie was a brilliant conclusion.
The ending is a double whammy of lame horror-wannabe twists which will have you rolling your eyes. No satisfying answers are given, and nothing cool is shown. It really is a generic “is my baby the devil?” movie where someone did a find-replace to switch “Satan” with “Spaceman”.
I guarantee after it’s done, no one who saw The Astronaut’s Wife will give it a second thought, even if they do manage to stay awake during the whole thing. When you leave the audience fondly looking back at Species 3, you’ve got problems. (On VHS, March 15, 2019)

    Authors constantly push the boundaries of what is possible in fiction. For example, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein completely opened up horror, science fiction, and intense drama, forcing significant changes in literature and society. In my opinion this was the first radical fiction book.
    I define radical fiction as a story that takes a gigantic leap from reality. Readers are required to accept concepts like impossible physics, alien values, crazy morals, and inhuman rules. Authors like Ray Bradbury, Jules Verne, Isaac Asimov, and Arthur C. Clarke all published in this area. As a result, readers now believe in distant worlds, faster than light travel, aliens, magic, time travel, and ray guns.
    For example, Spiderman’s world has radical biology. A young man uses a silk gland to leap from building to building. To accept this impossibility, readers must overcome tricky hurdles. At the very least, the silk gland would shoot ten feet and be near his butt. How far can a man pee? It is the same biological mechanism.
    I approached radical fiction with caution. For example, in my first book, I explored the impossible concept of immortality. To do so, I carefully led my readers through waves of pseudo-science so they would ignore proven medical facts. My immortality process involved “harvested” human organs which were placed into a host body. This addition provided the host’s immune system with the ability to destroy the “parasites responsible for old age.”
    Is my immortality concept plausible? Sort of. Using harvested organs to achieve eternal life is pure fantasy. Having the immune system indefinitely repair the body is almost plausible. Wink, wink.
    My second book has aliens. In the real world, there is anecdotal evidence to support the existence of aliens. However, aliens certainly have not been on 60 minutes to discuss their political views.
    My approach was basic. The aliens were invisible at the beginning of the story and they briefly interacted at the end. Their visual appearance was “human-like” and they had no special abilities. I was careful to keep their exact details vague by dressing them in invisible suits.
    I feel a gradual introduction led the readers into accepting alien characters. This also avoided many questions. What do aliens like to eat? How does the alien ship work?
    In Star Wars, there were many characters from different backgrounds. Wow, that would be difficult to organize. Star Wars gets away with radical fiction by immediately leaping in. The movie begins on a distant planet where Luke Skywalker presses a button on his light sabre and slices away. Never mind the concept of a “light sabre” is utterly impossible by every known law of physics, thermodynamics, electronics, and optics.
    I treat radical fiction like a gun with one bullet. You wave it around and act tough, but you only get one shot. So, aim carefully. Bolder authors approach radical fiction like it is raining bullets, but this requires a particular reader who instantly gets the altered reality.
    Harry Potter uses his wand to freeze water, a writing bridge I cannot cross. My plots must make total sense or nearly total sense. In all the technical books I read, the experiments I have performed, and technical shows I watched, there has never been a “magic wand” that freezes water. First law of thermodynamics! I struggle to imagine a world where a magic wand could exist. That is a significant writing blind spot that limits what I can create.
    I respect radical fiction authors. They are bold people who push us forward into places I cannot imagine. Someday I might take this leap but for now, I have a lot of ground to cover here on plain old dull earth.
    You’re the best -Bill

An entirely self-indulgent number of aliens, part 1: Armfish of Enceladus
Disclaimer: I'm not a scientist. I've taken half an intro astronomy class and done a lot of google searching. The section of this before I get into making up aliens should have sound science but I don't guarantee it, the section after that is only loosely inspired by science.
Disclaimer 2: I drew the armfish at the bottom of this, so warning for weird alien fish including some drawings of their skeletons
So Enceladus is a moon of Saturn. It's tiny, 310 miles in diameter with only 1/100th of the gravity of earth. However, other than being much smaller, it has a lot of similar attributes to Jupiter's moon Europa- they both have strong evidence of liquid water oceans underneath their icy surfaces, and are both heated by tidal forces from their planets.
Enceladus also shows some evidence of hydrothermal vents on its seafloor. On earth, food chains that start around hydrothermal vents are some of the only ones that aren't dependent on sunlight and photosynthesis- which is a good thing for life on Enceladus because there is no way light dependent life could happen there. Its ocean is theorized to be under 1/2 a mile of ice at the very thinnest spots in the ice crust, and under closer to 12 miles of ice on average, so... not a lot of light is going to get through that.
Hydrothermal vent ecosystems on earth exist at the bottoms of our oceans, where water pressure is extremely high. On Enceladus, hydrothermal vent ecosystems would be deeper under ice and water than they are on Earth, increasing the water pressure, but gravity would be lower, decreasing the water pressure. I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I'm going to guess it totals to less water pressure in a Enceladus hydrothermal vent ecosystem than most earth ones.
All that out of the way, alien time.
I'm going to take some inspiration from an earth hydrothermal vent ecosystem. Hydrothermal vents produce heat and nutrients, bacteria can turn those heat and nutrients into food, and then other organisms, like yeti crabs, eat those bacteria. Yeti crabs are already basically aliens but I should probably make up a new species that fills a similar niche because if yeti crabs were everywhere in the solar system that might be weird.
I also want to have an alien species that develops full sentience here because I think that's cool. I'm imagining an apex predator that eats the smaller crustacean and fish-like creatures around the vents. They evolved hands to be able to better pick apart their crustacean prey and get all the meat inside, but since they are very smart eventually started using their hands to craft tools and manipulate the environment in other ways.
They don't have eyes, because of the whole there's no light leagues under ice and water thing, so they rely on electroreception to get around instead, like platypi (platypi are also already aliens). They can sense the electrical signals that the muscles and nerves of their prey give off, but they can also create their own electrical fields and sense their surroundings by how objects that conduct electricity better or worse than water warp the fields. Being able to give off electrical signals at will also means they can communicate to eachother with them. They have a language that's a combination of sounds and electrical signals, and when they eventually do have humans make contact with them, the humans find them extremely difficult to understand because of that.

In the view of Denny JA revealed the initial secret of space civilization.
Introduction: Space civilization has always been an attractive mystery for humans. Are we ourselves inhabited by space creatures? Is there a more advanced civilization out there? These questions have triggered human imagination for years. In Denny JA's view, a famous figure in Indonesia, there are several secrets that need to be revealed about the beginning of space civilization. This article will review Denny JA's view in detail, outlines his argument and show the underlying evidence. I. Why is space civilization a challenge a. The existence of aliens and life outside the earth In Denny JA's view, the existence of aliens and life outside the earth is the initial secret of space civilization that needs to be revealed. According to him, the earth is not the only place in the universe that can support life. With billions of galaxies and stars, the possibility of life outside the earth is very possible. Denny Ja quoted the discovery of exoplanet-exoplanet with conditions similar to Earth as proof that life in space may exist. b. More advanced civilization and sophisticated technology Denny Ja also believes that space civilization has far more advanced and sophisticated technology than the technology that exists on earth. He argued that with the age of the universe that was very old, there was a possibility that there was a space civilization that had existed long before humans were born. More sophisticated technology such as inter -star trips and gravitational control is believed to have been achieved by space civilization. II. Evidence that supports Denny Ja's view a. UFO sightings and strange events on earth Denny Ja gathered evidence in the form of UFO sightings and strange events that occurred on earth as an indication of interaction with space civilization. He mentioned famous cases such as Roswell and other UFO appearances that were difficult to explain with conventional science. According to Denny Ja, UFO sightings and strange events showed a visit from space civilization. b. Archaeological findings that arouse imagination There are several archeological findings claimed by Denny Ja as proof of the existence of space civilization in the past. One example is the Piri Reis inscription, an ancient world map depicting continents and islands with amazing accuracy. Denny Ja argues that the knowledge needed to make the map cannot be owned by human civilization at that time, so that the possibility of assistance from space civilization is very possible. III. Implications of Denny Ja's view a. Change human understanding of the universe If Denny Ja's view is proven to be true, this will change human understanding of the universe and where we are in it. We will realize that we are not the only intelligent life in the universe and that there are civilizations that are far more advanced out there. The implications will be very large in the fields of science, religion, and philosophy. b. Potential cooperation between civilization In Denny Ja's view, if we can communicate and interact with space civilization, there is the potential for cooperation between civilization in various fields such as research, technology, and culture. This can bring great benefits to human development and encourage unity among the nations on earth. Conclusion: In Denny Ja's view, there is an early secret of space civilization that needs to be revealed. The existence of aliens and life outside the earth, more advanced civilization and sophisticated technology, as well as evidence such as UFO sightings and archeological findings support their views. The implications of this view are very large and can change our understanding of the universe. The potential for cooperation between civilization is also an interesting thing to explore. Although there are still many mysteries that need to be revealed, Denny Ja's view provides an interesting perspective and provides space for further discussions about space civilization.

The Treachery of Data
The first problem every budding developer and data scientist faces is separating data from its representation.
The second problem is realizing that “data” doesn’t exist. There are only traces of physical phenomena, and interpretations of those traces informed by context.
Ceci n’est pas une donnée
By now, everyone knows the “trick” to René Magritte’s painting The Treachery of Images: it’s not a pipe, it’s a painting of a pipe. LOL, punk’d.
Tumblr media
But imagine showing the painting to someone who didn’t know any French (and hadn’t had the French caption explained to them)—or better, imagine showing the painting to an alien who didn’t even know what a pipe was.
The alien would probably understand the painting as a depiction of a three-dimensional object, and possibly infer that the markings below it are a caption. But, to the alien, it wouldn’t be a depiction of a pipe, and any joke or paradox would be lost on them.
On the other hand, someone who knew more French and had certain cultural literacy might recognize that “une pipe” also admits a different (and less professionally acceptable) meaning.
This detail helps explain the “treachery” alluded to in the painting’s title (also contextual information absent from the painting): for the mec excité—and the tobacco smoker—the painting evokes an experience it can’t deliver on.
“Ah,” interrupts one of the junior developers, “you’re talking about art though! Everybody knows art is open to interpretation, but data is about facts. Data is objective!”
Data science as archaeology
The ancient Minoan script Linear A has yet to be deciphered. If we ever do, it’ll be because we’ve recovered enough information about the context in which human beings put these marks in clay in the first place.
Tumblr media
Bits on a hard drive are the physical traces of some past activity. They can only be usefully interpreted given some amount of a priori knowledge about the context in which they were put there.
To view that JPEG on a flash drive, you need to know what a FAT32 filesystem is, and what the JPEG format is and how it works, or at least have access to software which incorporates that knowledge. If enough of that context is lost, it becomes undecipherable. (This is a going concern in data preservation, although FAT32 and JPEG specifically have proven staying power, for now.)
“Self-describing” data formats are context-heavy, in the sense that they try to ship a lot of their original context as part of the data. So, instead of simply referring to the third field in a data structure by its offset, you can self-evidently see (based on your a priori knowledge of the general data format, and the labels in the data) that it represents “CHSBllgOrg.”
(Now, you might not know what “CHSBllgOrg” means, but at least you have the opportunity to ask an old-head or maybe do an intranet search. If you're really lucky there will be internal documentation.)
But this need for interpretation backed by detective work is true of data science in general, even when you are certain of the general format and structure of the data. One’s time as a data scientist is spent scouring data lakes for fossil footprints of past events, forming hypotheses, and then testing those hypothesis by researching the circumstances which lead to that data being generated. (You’ll also occasionally get to make wildly erroneous predictive models, as a treat.)
Context is king
Consider two ways to represent a number:
1,236,852
One million, two hundred thirty-six thousand, eight hundred and fifty two
These happen to have a congruent interpretation as if you choose an appropriate interpretive framework.
But, the first one can be understood as a number by anyone who recognizes them as Arabic numerals, without reference to the English language.
On the other hand, the English phrase can be understood (if you so choose) as a sequence of English words or n-grams in the Latin alphabet without any reference to its interpretation as a number.
This isn’t to say that applying some completely arbitrary interpretation would be useful; these would still be interpretations informed by the context that produced the data.
But it is a regular thing that you and your code will deal with different interpretations of the “same” data, applying different lenses as context demands. A JSON parser and the application logic that consumes the JSON data end up having very different views on what is, ultimately, the same input.
A hidden peril
The issue of context is also important to bear in mind because obliviousness to changing context is often a significant source of security vulnerabilities.
For example, failing to properly quote a value injected as an SQL string entails a failure to recognize a shift from one perspective (where the representation is interpreted as inert text) to another (where the same sequence of characters is interpreted as a possibly destructive instruction to the query processor).
Modern SQL frameworks which are less vulnerable to injection attacks are less vulnerable because they use modern programming language facilities to delimit the different contexts.
More generally, most security vulnerabilities involve situations where attackers are able to “arbitrage” between different interpretive contexts, taking advantage of situations where a representation of data is “harmless” or acceptable in one context but not in another. For example, a CPU might re-interpret a text in an overflowed buffer as a subroutine.
So, if we want to consider the “treachery of data”, we must appreciate that “data” is not only treacherous because it is a suggestive illusion, but also because obliviousness to the importance and fluidity of interpretive context can land you in crises you never bargained for.

On The Topic Of Xenoarcheology
The search for extraterrestrial life has always been an exciting topic for scientists and enthusiasts alike. But as we delve deeper into the mysteries of the universe, we uncover strange and baffling artifacts that challenge our understanding of history. Welcome to the world of alien archeology, where the weird and unusual is the norm.
From the odd metallic spheres discovered in South Africa known as Klerksdorp spheres, to the elongated skulls of Peru, we have our fair share of strange findings. And it doesn't stop there. Have you heard about the massive stone complex in Bolivia known as Puma Punku? It is believed that the megalithic stones were cut to perfection by advanced beings using technology beyond our imagination. And what about the Nazca Lines in Peru? These are enormous etchings in the desert that are only visible from above. Many believe that they were created by ancient aliens as a form of communication.
While some may argue that these findings are nothing more than elaborate hoaxes, the evidence is hard to ignore. The ancient astronaut theory suggests that advanced beings have been visiting our planet for centuries and have influenced human civilization in ways unimaginable. Could it be that these strange artifacts are proof of their existence?
The truth remains shrouded in mystery, and it is up to us to continue our search for answers. It is clear that alien archeology is indeed weird, but it is also fascinating. Who knows what other secrets the universe holds waiting to be discovered. As we continue to explore the heavens above, we can only hope that we uncover more clues to unlock the mysteries of the cosmos.
