GEMS WARM MIX

This warm mix can be given weekly as a treat or more often for weight gain or for sick rats.

Veggies (kale, spinach, peas, corn, broccoli, etc)

Eggs

Dried Herb Mix** (recipe below)

18% Teklad Lab Block Powder

Coconut Oil

Seeds (sunflower seeds, flaxseeds, hemp seeds)

How to prepare:

- add some coconut oil to a pan and sauté the veggies

- Beat 4-6 eggs together, add about a handful of the dried herb mix and add it all to the sautéed vegetables

- Here’s the veggies and egg mix

- Add about 3-4 tablespoons of the powdered Lab Block mix to the eggs and veggies

- Cook the mix until the eggs are done (about 5-8 minutes on medium heat) and you’re done!

- let it cool and before serving sprinkle some seeds over the mixture.

Store any leftovers in the fridge. It will last for 4 days. If you only have a couple of rats you can cut this recipe in half.

LAB BLOCK POWDER

- add 1 cup of Teklad 18% Lab Block to a blender

- mix it until it becomes a fine powder

- store it in a air tight container for up to 2 months.

DRY HERB MIX

I have a lot of rats so I buy all my dry herbs in bulk. If you want to buy just a small quantity of herbs at a time you can use this mix from My Safe Bird Store -

Echinacea

I buy all of these herbs in bulk from Frontier Co-op on Amazon. Just mix all of the herbs together and keep it in an air tight large container. Other uses for the mix:

- sprinkle a handful over their bedding when doing cage cleaning and adding new bedding. The bedding will smell great and the rats love foraging for the herbs.

- buy a small 4” stoneware dish and fill it with the herb mix and keep in the rats cage for free feeding. They will nibble and eat the herbs as they please.

Trooper! That's all I can say. After a lengthy 1.5 hour vet visit including an O2 chamber, pain medication/sedative, & x-ray (that was sent to a radiologist for prognosis), Harley still has her spunk. Bacterial infection isn't likely (thank you, universe!🙏) Based on her clinical history (& the x-ray & radiology report), little Ms. Harley is, unfortunately, breathing with one lung (pretty much). It's not good, but if she had pneumonia & was unresponsive to antibiotics, that would be worse. The x-ray apparently showed a lot of opacity in her right lung (due to scarring from recurring upper respiratory illness). She's currently on a good amount of meds to help keep her quality of life as good as it can be. But she's living the good life. Especially when she's gets her own personally grooming session from mom (she got food stuck in her fur so I had to get those dreads out!) She does a lot of sleeping, still cruises around, & is just as picky of as eater as a five year old (kids like buttered noodles, Harley likes silk orange-mango soy yogurt🙄) Some days are bones days, some are no bones days.
