i do put responsibility on peter b for not facing miles and telling him the truth, way moreso than gwen, but i also think people are forgetting that any instance of him not reading the room, not saying the right thing, and not being the best mentor in Across can be chalked up to the fact that he’s a new stay-at-home dad. man’s probably running on like three hours of sleep and has accidentally fed the cat the baby’s food at least once in the past month, he’s probably just happy any time he can socialize around people who can speak full sentences in the daytime

Okay but picture this, Miguel getting jealous cause of another spiderperson flirting with you
Like he is doing a briefing with a lot of spider people and one of them keeps trying to get your attention and miguel gets jealous, sends everyone away and has a heavily make out on his platform in his office🫣
HIHIHI twirling hair kicking feet at this bestie

Tumblr media
Miguel had invited a good group of spiderpersons who were still fairly new to the society, to bring them up to speed or simply to remind them of the procedures to follow on a mission.
You were there, just to supervise. Having been part of Miguel's elite group of spiders for some time now, you were perfectly familiar with all the criteria and stages of the anomaly hunt.
Nothing more than a quick briefing. The usual team was there, Hobie, Gwen, Pavitr, Peter B, Jess and you. You stood off to the side, leaning against a wall, arms folded as you watched Miguel give his speech a bit farther away.
"Hey, I've never seen you around before, do we know each other ?
Your eyes went to the person who had just spoken to you. It was an umpteenth Peter, blond-haired, not far from your age, and of course new.
Although you didn't appear everywhere all the time, most of the spiders knew what Miguel's group looked like. So you were a little surprised by his remark, but not enough for it to be too striking.
"You might've seen me on his team," you said, pointing with your chin at your boyfriend, who you hoped wasn't terrorising the newcomers too much.
You tried to refocus on Miguel's speech. Your relationship with him was not public; you had agreed that, for the time being, you would prefer to keep it a secret. There were several reasons for this, such as the fact that you might be seen as a spider with more privileges than the others - which wasn't the case - or the fact that you simply wanted to avoid trouble. This lack of information didn't stop Peter from coming back for a chat.
"So... what's your name ?"
You didn't even look at him, simply giving him your name and alias.
"And you're a new Peter," you sighed.
"You never get enough Peters, am I right?" he smiled, "although I'm obviously unique in my own way.
"Unique?" you smiled with a little chuckle, "how?", because Peters looked and acted the same, they were after all Peters, so you wondered how he would stand out.
"Like this," he approached you, tucking his fingers behind your ear and bringing his hand into your field of vision so that you could see a little flower between his fingers.
You gave a little laugh, taking the flower in your hand. It was soft, light and smelled wonderful.
"A Peter magician?" you pouted, shaking your head, "that's progress."
Miguel was going over the formalities of multidimensional cells when his gaze inevitably drifted to you. But he froze, tensing up as his eyes took in the little scene unfolding nearby.
You, against a wall, an ordinary Peter caressing your ear to perform a crummy magic trick and make a flower come out of it. Too close... he thought, he was too close to you. He didn't appreciate the proximity with which he approached you. Of course, the other team-mates in his squad could allow themselves to be close to you, whether you were in their arms or whatever, but for one of the countless Peters here to allow himself to be at your level? That he could not condone.
He saw a small smile forming on your face, his blood boiling. Wasn't he good enough for you? Was it because he didn't give you enough affection that you let any spider approach you? Or was it that he didn't do you enough favours, like performing magic tricks?
But Miguel was so good to you, it was almost impossible to get out of his arms when he hugged you. He gave you everything he could give you, even loving you to the point of giving you the last empanada left in the cafeteria if there was only one left, no matter how much he wanted it, and that's how passionate he was about you.
So maybe... you didn't realise that Peter was flirting with you?
Ah, maybe that was it, maybe you were just oblivious to what the nerd was trying to do?
And the Peter took another step.
That one step was too much.
"Well, you've got most of the information. We're going to cut this meeting short, you can all go." he warned, teeth clenched.
The elite team itself looked surprised as all the other Spiderpersons scattered to leave the room.
"Miguel? Is there something wrong ?" asked Peter B, concerned that perhaps the reason everyone had just been dismissed was because of something he had received from Lyla that was important.
But his eyes were riveted like arrows ready to be shot at the Peter who was still chatting to you.
"I just have to take care of a little problem," his eyebrows were furrowed, jaw tight.
Peter B's eyes drifted back to where his were, letting out a quiet "Oh" before calling the rest of the team and persuading them to come with him to... whatever it was for, as long as the elite were leaving too.
"And so you caught three anomalies in a single mission?" said Peter, absolutely amazed by the feats you were telling him about.
"Yes, it's becoming routine," you confirmed.
You noticed the room beginning to empty, and deduced that the meeting must have ended.
"I'm so happy that there are Spiderwomen around, and as competent as you are," continued Peter, chatting to you, "especially when I see that they're as beautiful as you are."
"That's very kind of you," you say simply, "the meeting's just finished, I think you'd better leave before you get your knuckles rapped."
Advice from someone with a very strict boyfriend on organisation, you thought.
"Could we meet again? How about the cafeteria?" he offered.
"That's very nice of you to suggest, but-" you bit the inside of your cheek as he cut you off.
"Oh, or maybe the park? I hear there's an ice-cream parlour that sells ice-creams in our likeness." he laughed softly.
"Would you look at that."
You swallow, his voice was strained and falsely interested, your eyes landing on Miguel who'd just arrived near you.
It's almost comical how tall Miguel was compared to him, towering over him in both mass and size to the point where he could crush him like a tin can.
"Oh Miguel O'Hara-" greeted Peter as if nothing had happened.
"I've never seen you here before," Miguel remarked, a vicious flash in his eyes.
He intended to take great pleasure in showing how much better he was than Peter, and above all in making sure he understood that you weren't interested in his advances.
"Oh yes sir, I'm Peter," he said.
"How original," said Miguel in a honeyed, falsely curious tone, glancing at you.
"The Peters must be the best for there to be so many of them," laughed Peter, and you felt like pinching the bridge of your nose.
"I see them more as a weed that hangs around," he said, looking into poor Peter's eyes, Miguel looming over him.
"Well, I think you should join the other Spiderpersons," you simply breathed with a polite smile.
"Yeah um," he swallowed, lowering his eyes from Miguel's to meet yours, he was appalled. "I'll see you sometime maybe ?"
"Never," Miguel decided.
Peter took a few steps backwards, unable to say anything else, and headed for the exit.
"You look upset, what's wrong?" you asked as Miguel headed for the control platform.
"I see you made a new friend?" asked Miguel, his eyes locking onto you with a dark gleam as he stepped onto the platform.
"Not really," you replied, your voice a little smaller as you in turn joined him on it, coming to sit on one of the desks.
"What did he want?" he asked, his tone insistent as he looked at you, standing and taking a step forward.
"Nothing special, he wanted to get acquainted," you said softly as he took a step forward, his eyes gleaming strangely.
"Just getting to know each other?" he said, arriving just in front of you and placing his two hands on either side of your thighs, tilting his head to the side, questioningly. "You're naive if you think he just wants to be your friend."
His face was close to yours, his whole body almost covering you, leaving you unable to move or get away. Your eyes locked with his a little more, and you understood, a small smile forming on your lips.
You put your hand on his cheek, and he pressed against your touch.
"Do I detect some jealousy there?"
He sighed, his jaw contracting slightly, his tongue creating a tent in his cheek. You raised an eyebrow - was Miguel jealous?
His hand came to brush against your thigh, his fingers moving up until they settled and gripped you, pulling you towards him with this simple grip until your noses touched.
"I didn't like very much how he was so close to you," he admitted, his lips brushing yours.
He came to kiss you, demanding, his lips pressing almost brutally against yours as his other hand came to rest on the small of your back, the latter pressing to bring you closer to him.
You tried to respond to his kiss, his lips and jaw so strong that you felt he was going to engulf you.
He came and kissed your neck, a small sigh of comfort coming from between your lips, which were puffed out and moistened by his kiss.
"You know," you said softly as your fingers ran through his hair, "he never stood a chance against... you right ?"
The statement made his ego swell, as if a huge weight had just been lifted from his shoulders and he felt so light. His lips tenderly kissed your neck, and you felt it.
He sucked at your skin, marking it delicately. He needed, needed the others to know that you had someone. And although you both wanted what you had to be private, he had a terrible desire for people to know that you belonged to him, and not just anyone. He came back to your lips.
"Say that you're mine."
He had to hear it, from your lips that were full of him. You moistened them with a flick of your tongue, his eyes attentive, dark.
"I'm yours," you affirmed softly.
He came to kiss you again, pulling away from your lips to let his fall on your cheek.
"Make me believe it," he said, drunk on your skin. "Say that again."
His kisses covered your skin, wanting to coat it entirely with his lips so that he didn't miss any part of it.
"I'm yours," you whispered, drowning in his adoration as your fingers caressed his cheek.
"Again," he whispered as his lips kissed your eyelid.
"I'm yours," you whispered, your other hand coming around his chest to bring him closer to you.
"Again..." his voice was barely audible, kissing the tip of your nose.
Of course you were his, everything already belonged to him. Did he want your heart? It was full of him. Did he want your thoughts? He had replaced every one of your ideas. Did he want all of you? He would only have a body and a soul that was already attached to him.
When his lips returned to yours, it was you who kissed him, and he melted under the sensation of your lips on his.
"I'm yours."
Your eyes gazed at each other, each living in the other, and he wrapped his arms around you, pressing you hard against him, closing his eyes to enjoy the moment.
He wouldn't let any weeds near his flower.

Okay I see your "if Hobie and Noir meet they would be besties and punch nazis together" and I totally agree with that! But also consider:
Hobie is Spider Noir's biggest fanboy!
Like in the comics he's like a HUGE Gwen Stacy stan and he's such a goofy little dork about it. In ATSV him and Gwen's relationship is more like chill friends, and I'm okay with that. But I think it be so funny that when Hobie was recruted into Spiderverse society and Miguel was showing him all the other universes with the different Spiderman variants he pauses by the computer screen with that one gritty black and white universe cuz he just saw some guy in a fedora and trench coat PUNCH A FUCKING NAZI!!! WHO IS THAT GUY?!?! HE'S SO COOL!!!
Tumblr media
He asks Miguel a million and one question about the guy and when the old grump annoyingly shoos him away he asks Peter as he briefly met him during that one incident in Miles is dimension. When that still isn't enough he asks Lyla to tell him everything she knows on Noir. Now obviously Lyla has no obligation to do this but she's also never seen Hobie this giddy and excited over something other then music. Its adorable, he's almost like a little kid wanting to know everything about their favorite cartoon. Also she low key likes to annoy Miguel and Hobie's rebellious spirit that gets under her straight laced boss is skin which is hilarious.
You know when Gwen first met Hobie she was a bit intimated cuz he just had that "too cool" vibe about him. But as soon as she mentions that she has worked with other Spider people before, which includes Noir, he did a whole 180 and became a complete dork!
Hobie: Get out, you actually met him! 🤩
Gwen: Uh, yeah?
Hobie: How was he like? What did he say? Did he talk about fascist corruption that not only plagued the system back then but even now as well? Was he super cool during the fight?! 😃🤩💫😻
Gwen: ..........He was nice.
Hobie: That's so rad! ✨️🤟🤩
Tumblr media
I also feel like, aside from Miles, Gwen keeps in contact with the other Spider peeps from the first movie and tried to recruit them into the Spider society but obviously Noir and Porker didn't join. Porker because he’s a cartoon that follows "toon logic" and Miguel's ideologies are too serious for his taste. And Noir because, and I quote: "The last I heard of a secret society designed to 'keep the peace for the greater good of humanity at any cost' a whole world war came about it. I know fascism when I see it, kid."
Gwen relays that message to Hobie when explaining why Noir isn't joining and Hobie's response to that is: "He gets it! He just like me fr! 😭💕"
I think it be really cute that in the next movie when they finally meet Hobie is kinda awkward and shy. Like this guy has never respected an adult in his life (at least not any that didn’t deserve the disrespect) and with Noir his all like "Hello sir" "How are you sir" "It's very nice to meet you sir!" And Noir is actually just a really nice guy if a little broody but he's heard so much about this kid from Gwen and how much of a good friend he's been to her so Noir already likes him on principle.
Hobie: Uh Mr. Noir-- Parker, sir! It is such an honor to meet you! The work you do in your universe is amazing and I hope to learn more while working alongside you however briefly.
Noir: Ah, Peter is just fine really, or Noir if it gets to confusing. No need to be so formal, we're all on equal footing here. I've heard a lot about you and your world as well from Gwen. Although it does sadden me that such a young man has to take on the burden of saving the world from such a corrupt society yet again, you're going about it quite well. War is hard and ugly and violent but you are amazingly brave to be able to stand up for what is right in the face of it all. If anybody is honored here it is me, for being able to meet such a remarkable young man like you. And knowing that my friends have made such honorable allies in the midst of all this chaos.
Hobie, externally: Yeah, it's whatevs 😎
Hobie, internally: Dont cry dont cry dont cry dont cry dont cry dont cry dont cry dont cry YOURE GUNNA LOOK SO UNCOOL IF YOU CRY IN FRONT OF HIM NOW 😭💕😭💕😭
Tumblr media
I just think it be really cute if they had a wholesome father-son sort of relationship where they shit talk corrupt government systems and punch fascists together. You know, regular father-son bonding!
(Also I think that's another reason Miguel didn't invite Spider Noir to the Spiderverse, cuz he knew that both of these menaces together would cause a bigger headache than its worth 🤣🤣🤣)

hello! so i've been a short time (feels like a long time) lurker, recent follower, of all of your spidey-pool stuff, and i adore it!!
i do have a question though: i see a lot of your more angsty posts being about how Wade and Peter can't exactly see eye to eye on what they believe love to mean, but i haven't seen a post explicitly saying what their beliefs are. so, i suppose i'm asking what exactly wade and peter's pre-conceived notions of love are?
oooh, i think wade's perception of love is something more abstract than peter's – wade – wade sort of thinks of love in terms of fairytales and hollywood pictures.
Tumblr media
for wade, love is sort of something intangible for him. something he perpetually wants, but something he can never keep. it gets yanked away from him, every time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i think he constantly questions whether he'll ever hold onto love. i think he likes to persuade himself that he doesn't need it, and has never felt it. can't lose what you never had in the first place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[x]
when wade does lean into love, he makes a spectacle of it. he wants the world to know. he wants it to be THE fairytale. he wants it to be hollywood perfect. i think, maybe to placate his own self-doubt. if he gussies it up enough, maybe it can be perfect.
Tumblr media
of course, with shiklah, wade doesn't even take his mask off during the wedding. or the honeymoon.
Tumblr media
i think - kind of being deprived of love his whole life, he just - he doesn't really know how to authenticate his emotions. he feels terrified to expose his soft underbelly and let someone in his life know how much he needs them. he won't admit it to himself, and he won't admit it to others.
Tumblr media
peter - conversely - has been surrounded by love his whole life. unconditional love. from aunt may - from uncle ben – from MJ and gwen – and yes, he's experienced loss - but, he knows love. real - authentic love. in fact - he feels it, so so much. all the time. he loves so deeply. and so many people. all the time. he's stand-offish at first, and it's difficult to get in, but once you're in - peter will never let you go.
i think that is what love is, to peter. it's not about flowers, or glass slippers, or whatever hollywood is peddling - what love is to peter, is longevity. loyalty. someone who'll stick by you, forever. never abandon you. no matter how imperfect.
Tumblr media
[x]
which is - kind of, exactly what wade's looking for, but too afraid to admit to.
Tumblr media
[x]
peter feels so much love. authentic love. messy love. unromantic love. love where, he won't say the right thing, because he doesn't have a hollywood script backing him up, but it comes from such an honest and sincere place in his heart. he's bad at romance, but his brand of love is clumsy and honest. he doesn't know how to be any other way. he tries, and fails. he can't even successfully deliver a bouquet of flowers. it's not even his fault.
Tumblr media
and he, so, so quickly recognises how much he needs people. he's hopeless without the people he loves. and, just like wade, he's terrified of losing people. but it manifests in a different way. instead of living in denial over it, he kind of does everything he can to hold onto people. peter is clingy.
Tumblr media
and - in contrast to wade - when peter's in love, he wants nothing more than to expose every part of himself. el nudisto. buck-ass-nude.
Tumblr media
he wants to bear himself, so badly to the people he loves. the only thing that ever outweighs that is the fear he has of losing those people. so it's calculated risks, on his part.
i guess the biggest difference between wade and peter is always that - wade's performative to a fault - and peter's sincere to a fault. and hilarity ensues.

I had coffee my thoughts are all over the place it's not gonna make sense and I'm probably gonna change my mind about some of the things I said later but here's my ramble.
I'm so mad right now. There's so many things that piss me off with Peter B. I keep thinking about all the mess he keeps pulling throughout the first and the second movie. The fact that he betrayed Miles not once but twice BUT THREE TIMES (typing Miles up in ITSV, not telling him about the Spider Society or that he was an anomaly, CALLING HQ ON HIM BECAUSE HE WANTED TO SAVE HIS FATHER. Technically that's 4 but moving on.)
He refuses to acknowledge Miles as a fellow spider(which is probably why he didn't feel bad about finding Miles was an anomaly now he has a reason to not take Miles seriously.) And he keeps trying to insert himself into a mentor role when he's yet to do a whole lot of mentoring. What also throws me here is how he had the audacity to say the trauma builds character while being a mentor to help guide Miles into becoming Spiderman so Miles' could avoid the mistakes that Peter made.
I WILL NEVER BE OVER THAT CHAIR SCENE IN ITSV. How is it you as a grown man. A grown white man no less took a black teenage boy who you viewed as so much of a liability that you had to tie him up. And I know multiple people have talked about everything that's wrong with this scene but there's still something so haunting about watching him just nonchalantly be tied up kicking and screaming about how he wants to be let go that bothers me so much. And I find it hard to believe that this was just a scene we're supposed to just move on from. Did they do this on purpose? Was this supposed to showcase something about Peter's character that I'm not picking up on? Because I find it so hard to believe that the writers who made sure to explicitly show how Gwen's Peter is Christian because he later turns into a lizard wouldn't understand the implications of this scene.
I also don't think he's a strategic as he thinks he is. What do you think was going to happen when you forcefully tied this boy to a chair? You thought he was going to sit still? Also would you think the boy who's trying to save his father was going to do? Actually listen to your words? Sit back and be like, oh you're right I should just let my father die. (This is me going off my reasoning that he didn't plan out that one scene in ATSV. I think that he thought that because he's Miles' "mentor" he could get through to him in a way others can't. Which pretentious much?) His actions do more harm than good and it just works out for him somehow. (For instance Miles saving them in ITSV because he came late.)
These are my thoughts do with this what you will. All the stars decided to align today ig because I haven't been able to come up with coherent thoughts like this in a minute.
(I really need to rewatch itsv. So if there's anything here that I'm wrong about regarding itsv it's been like 5 years since I've seen it.)
I GET THISS SOOO HARD (I waited until I had coffee to answer this lol)
BUT YESSSSS Because like I can understanding giving Peter the benefit of the doubt, it makes plausible sense for a movie to have a certain amount of wiggle room plot wise.
But with writers who clearly understood punk enough to accurately show it in Hobie's arc, repeatedly put in the work to respect Cockney and Puerto Rican culture, who wrote every one of Hobie's lines with PERCISION - would just overlook the glaring hole in their story that is Peter.
Because we as a viewer are continually told we SHOULD look up to him and we SHOULD trust him - but in doing so they accidentally make him the exact opposite. Like.. It doesn't make sense to me.
The Focus on Jess & The Absence of Peter:
aka GODDAMN I hate Peter B. Parker [yet another rant about 'bad' writing, plotholes, and Peter not showing up for Miles or Gwen.
For example,
Jess is Gwen's mentor, and we see her mentor style is extremely different from Peter's and that's suppose to be a contrasting dynamic between them and the relationship between Miles and Peter. Okay, makes sense.
But by NOT having Peter be Gwen's mentor, the writers are implying that he didn't step up as an emotional mentor when all this given - HE SHOULD. Because he's the only adult that she knows, and she a freshly homeless teen who needs to be around people she trusts, rather than working at a society with an auditorium of adults.
But by trying to show off how much we should judge Jess, the writers have inadvertently given us a Peter who just..didn't take responsibility. That's what they're implying - that Hobie and Jess were the ones who came to get aid. And we're suppose to look the other way. I... can't do that, sir.
"Look at how mean Jess is, why not blame her-" Jess is doing her job. Where's the adult she actually knows and trusts. Can we get some dialogue about what he did for her? Or did he just do nothing?
Did they just forget to include that, or did Peter just forget to help?
For me, that's two points in the bucket. Not housing Gwen, and not being her mentor. He could've done one, the other or both.
But because he didn't, we're left asking "What WAS he doing in the Society?"
Missions, I assume. Cause he wasn't mentoring her, so he must have been off putting in legit work for Miguel, I assume.
If we're looking at the characters as full-rounded - which I would hope they are considering the depth of Gwen, Miles and Hobie, it's not a large jump to ask 'How involved was Peter in Gwen's time at the Society? Why is he not her mentor, or why is she not living with him?"
Gwen..should be staying with him. If you're an adult who knows a teen and they become homeless, and it is within your means - yeah, I do think it's a moral obligation to open your home to them, at least temporarily. If you care about them. But that aside, let's extend the benefit of the doubt. Maybe Gwen didn't want to see him.
But then the ratting Miles out thing. This, I can't get around-
Some may say that it was simply for plot development and that Lyla spoke suddenly as a mistake on her part.
And I gotta call bullshit.
Firstly, because this is the same movie where we're shown Hobie stealing parts prior to learning what the parts are for. The same film that literally animated a fight accurately to Bushwick down to the very street. Let's cut it some slack here.
And moreso - I could understand the justification that it was a mistake on Lyla's part.
If Lyla was human. She's not.
She's an AI, and a very sophisticated one at that. Lyla runs on protocol, because that's AI's do. She's made to do things the way that is mathematically most effective, based on her analysis and her code.
It's easy to see Lyla as just an avatar, and a comedic one at that - but Lyla is literally one of - if not the - smartest 'person' in the multiverse. She's the only one who can track Spot in real time. If Jess and Miguel need aid on a mission or with Spot, they call Lyla. And she's handled every Society mission prior to the chase.
Her speaking out of turn suddenly and giving Peter away is an understandable plot mistake, if she was subjected to human mistakes.
So far, Lyla isn't. It doesn't make sense, based on what Lyla is.
I think Lyla would know better than to give Peter away suddenly by detecting Miles' presence and still speaking out loud.
A lot ask 'What motive does Peter have for ratting Miles out?', but we also should also ask "What motive does Lyla have for ratting herself out?'
It's her goal to find Miles no matter what. She doesn't care, she kinda can't - she's an AI. She just has to find him and send Miles' location to Miguel. Her objective.
So her locating Peter without his knowledge and then giving herself away to him doesn't make sense - especially if Lyla knew Miles was that close, from a human standpoint and definitely from the standpoint of the most sophisticated AI in existence.
So I was under the assumption that - like you mentioned now, that before when he gets Miles alone, he may genuinely be trying to convince him still, but by the time they get into that space, I think that's around the time that it becomes a 'Okay, let's just get Miles back to HQ and talk about this' situation.
He genuinely ratted Miles out. In my eyes.
Because at this point, Miguel hasn't assaulted Miles. That comes later. So realistically speaking, his goal was probably to calm Miles down, and get him back to HQ however he could, and talk to him there.
Peter could've helped WAYYYY earlier.
People give Peter credit like 'Oh but he came over to Miles' side at the end-'
NO. YOU DO NOT GET A COOKIE.
Peter could've helped SO much earlier, and if anything, he was THE ONLY ONE in a position of helping.
Gwen can't do anything, like they physically restrain her when she tries to. And there's no point after they come to HQ that Gwen has the chance to turn around and help Peter.
Gwen doesn't get that chance. Peter DOES.
Had Peter helped Miles HERE, IMMEDIATELY, Miles would've gotten away without being assaulted by Peter.
If Peter had turned around and changed course in this moment, Miles would have been better off.
Fuck Peter B. Fuckkkkk hiiiimmmmm. NAWWWWWW
Tumblr media
If Peter had let him go here, or helped him escape - Miles wouldn't have been taking hits up on that train. That's crazzzy.
But he wasn't trying to help Miles escape. If he wanted to, he would've. He could've just said "Matter of fact Miles, I think setting the WHOLE Society on you is a bizarre move and you should probably get out of here until Miguel can calm down and I can talk to him."
But he was like 'Nah, hold my baby. Matter of fact lemme tell you story in this pivotal moment when you're actively in danger. Here, look at me. What do you mean - I'm not stalling? I didn't rat him out on purpose.
Like either you did. And even if you didn't you didn't help him when you were literally the only person in the universe who could. In fact, he got away slower because of you. Lovely.
Tumblr media
Peter is a grown man. He's not an idiot.
He knows Miles is in active danger. Why would an adult turn the conversation in that direction - about his baby - KNOWING Miles has no time.
As soon as Miles got his hands on MayDay, Peter is trying to change the conversation. Suddenly he's joking and laughing.
Even though Miles is freaking out. Why is Peter joking? He knows this isn't a joking situation. But here he is wasting Miles time, either accidentally or intentionally.
Because that'd be some good ass stalling.
There was nothing stopping Peter from helping him leave. But Peter was still on The Society's side, so he didn't. If he was on Miles' side, he would've helped him. He should've, but he was still for Miguel, because at this point Miguel hadn't assaulted Peter yet.
Congrats, Peter. Big L. Humbling Reality Spider-man everyone.
Like combine all this. AND THEN THE SCENE IN ITSV.
LITERALLY AND PHYSICALLY PETER IS ALWAYS HOLDING MILES BACK.
You cannot expect me to believe that the writers of a movie I can write 10k+ words about, just so happened to leave these two glaring plot holes for ONE character.
That I'm just suppose to ignore that Peter restrained Miles, a black boy, in ITSV. That he betrayed Miles for months, wasn't very active in Gwen's time at the Society, and he actively hinders Miles escape - if not actively ratting him out.
It baffles my mind.
It doesn't make sense, that these writers can write Hobie, Jessica, Miguel, Officer Stacy, Rio, and Jeff as fully rounded, well-thought characters. But for some reason, when it comes SPECIFICALLY to Peter B. - they just forget how to write. They just stop thinking about him the second they don't look at him.
IN BOTH MOVIES?
I don't buy it.
To have every other character be thoroughly thought through but have one of, if not these most iconic character full of plot holes...
I think the likely answer is they wrote him that way on purpose and he's just a bad person.
I'm sorry, and I'm laughing while writing this but like.
Either Peter is the ONE singular character who has a series of emotional plotholes - or he's just a bad mentor. It's one or the other. And it's open to interpretation.
But I wanna cut the writers some slack and say, No - they thought it through. And No, Lyla did not just randomly speak out of turn, he contacted her first off-screen before she replied to him.
And by waiting till the very end to come around, waiting until the person who looks up to you is deeply wounded to finally turn around - that's the same arc Officer Stacy goes through.
And we're not supposed to clap for him. It's lovely, but he doesn't get an award. And neither does Peter, not at all.
Maybe if had helped Miles escape in that moment. Maybe if he was Gwen's mentor or he housed her.
But as far as we know he spent those months of Gwen in the Society doing fuck all. We've seen no sign of his contribution anywhere.
And in a story about mentorship, that says something.
Anyway. This is long. Again fiosfgihrgirturetuier I'm SORRY
Once again, Fuck Peter B. All my Hobies hate Peter B. (not a typo)
He's worse than Jess.
And he's not worse than Miguel but I like Miguel more and it's not because of the ass that's just a bonus Miguel is cool (but also very wrong. but like personality wise we're cool).
Ummm I feel like I got off track here. Oh well!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Damn he be doing Miles dirty. SMH
Bye.

Random question but do you know if the 616 Coffee Bean gang and Felicia have canonical birthdays?
Oh, this is a tough one. Superhero comics birthdays are a little rough -- sometimes there's no information, sometimes there's contradicting information, sometimes there's a birthday but it's for one Eisner winning miniseries that is about the fictional "real people" who, in the comic, inspired the superhero characters. (And even in that example it was two different birthdays, one in the single issues and one in the trade.)
I don't think there's an "official" canonical birthday for Peter. I've seen a lot of people use Spider-Man Day -- August 1st -- as his birthday, because it's the anniversary of Amazing Fantasy #15, Peter's very first appearance. Even though it isn't, actually, the anniversary -- there's conflicting dates for the release of Amazing Fantasy #15. Some information says it actually came out June 5th, other information says August 10th. So you can see how we're getting tricky already. I don't think there's anything wrong with using any of those dates for Peter's birthday, but if you're someone who wants one specific date -- there just isn't one. I know his passport is flashed in Spider-Man: Far From Home, although I can't remember if the date is shown (and I'm not looking at that movie again), so it's possible there's a concrete birthday that could be pointed to for MCU!Peter. But would it apply to 616!Peter? Shrug. That's the kind of thing people need to decide for themselves. Personally, I think the Amazing Fantasy #15 dates (all of the various ones) are really interesting if you wanted to run an astrological chart to look at the impact of the character on our world -- his continued relevance, the shifts in characterization and tone throughout the decades, how he reflects and is reflected upon by our real world. But that's a different thing than an in-universe canon birthday.
And it's difficult to use first appearances as birthdays for the other characters in the gang -- you could for Mary Jane and Felicia, if you wanted, but Harry and Gwen appear for the first time in the same issue, which would give them the same birthday by that rule, and the same goes for Flash, who appears for the first time in Amazing Fantasy #15 alongside Peter.
Harry does have a birthday listed in canon -- Dark Web #1 says his birthday in December 13th. I don't have any particular feelings on this or reason not to just go with it, aside from my deep and burning hatred for the whole Dark Web event. It's a little cute if Harry Osborn, given the sliding timescale, was born on the exact same day as Taylor Swift. He has the energy.
For Gwen and Mary Jane -- we don't have birth dates in 616. We do have issues that contain birthday parties. And I really need to get my refs folder back on my laptop because this would go so much faster if I could just look it up that way. (If you google "Mary Jane Watson birthday" it will tell you August 19th, but that's from someone's wiki for their fan project. There seems to be a general September birthday for Gwen from ITSV, but I don't know if I would choose to use that for 616 Gwen, personally. That's another "you gotta do you" situation.) Spectacular Spider-Man #9's backup story, Sweet Revenge, features a surprise birthday party for MJ, explicitly on her birthday. Again, the older comic dates screw us a little bit -- the cover date is September. The information I can dig up says this was actually released May 16th. Gwen has a birthday party in Amazing Spider-Man #87.
Tumblr media
Again, I have conflicting dates for this one, but it's a little funny -- the two dates I've found are August 1st and August 10th, two of the dates given for Amazing Fantasy #15's release date. I kind of like the idea that it's actually Gwen's birthday that the grand Peter celebration falls on. There's something very starcrossed lovers about a date assumed to be Peter's birthday actually being Gwen's. Something something how intertwined Gwen is with the text, long after her death.
For Felicia -- I have nothing, unfortunately. I can't think of anything that would even give us a reference to get close to a month, let alone a date. The same goes for Flash. If anyone knows differently, please let me know!

I've been watching Ben 10 a lot lately and I'm going to say if you haven't seen the show, please consider doing so.
The theme song pretty much explains the plot, but the general idea of the show is that while on summer vacation and traveling the country with his grandfather and cousin, 10 year old Ben Tennyson finds a watch (called an Omnitrix) that lets him turn into 10 different aliens. He uses the Omnitrix to fight criminals and aliens around the country. It can drag just a smidge in the beginning but I promise the plot picks up.
Ben is pretty relatable. One of the first things he does when he gets his powers is accidentally start a forest fire. When it comes to his every day life, he uses his powers for pretty mundane things (like getting a special toy from a specific cereal box) and gets himself in trouble a lot.
Gwen, his cousin, is also very relatable. She’s similar to Ben but not a carbon copy of him. She has her own interests and has been important to stopping bad guys.
His grandfather, Max, is also a really good character. He’s a grandfather who clearly cares a lot for his two grandkids and does his best to teach them about the importance of responsibility (and considering that one of them uses the most powerful weapon in the universe for shits and giggles, a lot of shenanigans ensue).
Since the main cast are Ben, his grandfather, and his cousin, the romance in this show is practically nonexistent (sadly, we still live in an amatonormative society, so there’s still some romance but it’s only in two episodes, not the main focus, and nothing long term). It’s very action focused with a huge emphasis on family.
Not to mention, for being a superhero show aimed at young boys in the early 2000s, it's aged rather well (this isn’t to say it’s perfect).
Whenever Ben and Gwen argue, the most sexist it can get is “boys rule, girls drool.” Gwen is also allowed to like girly things and it’s not treated as a weakness nor is she made to feel lesser for it.
Max is an old fat man but his weight and (aside a few “I’m getting too old this” comments) his age isn’t really brought up.
I know that”female character that is an actual person” and “old fat people are treated like human beings” isn’t really something to applaud but Ben 10 is still a superhero cartoon aimed at young boys that came out in the early 2000s yet there’s part to the show they handled better than movies that came out in 2018 (this is specifically a dig at how Into the Spiderverse treated Peter B Parker).
So if you like action, tomfoolery, and minimal romance, please consider giving Ben 10 a watch.

For the ask game you reblogged, Spider verse?
my favorite female character - Gwen, love her and her daddy issues
my favorite male character - ooh either Peter B. Parker or Hobie
my favorite cast member - This one is a bit tough... I am a fan of Kathryn Hahn. But Oscar Isaac though... I'll go with one of those two as my favorite (but I very much enjoy all of the voice cast!!)
my favorite ship - Miles and Gwen. Idk I haven't really shipped anyone in those movies so I'm fine with going with the basic ship
a character I’d die defending - Miguel. Like I get that the movie is a lot of "this is the actual reaction real people had about Miles being created", but thinking in the movie plot, the way Miguel is acting is very valid. He lost so much and when he tried to change things to be happy, everything went 1000x worse and he doesn't want that happening to anyone else's universe.
a character I just can’t sympathize with - I mean, there's a lot of characters in these movies that I love very much, but I don't always sympathize with just cause I don't relate to the stories they have. The movies have done such a good job with all the characters that I can see why they react the way they do.
I just remembered that Ben Parker exists and I guess he'll have to be the character I choose. He's great comedic relief, but that's really all he is (from what the movie has shown, idk his story in the comics).
a character I grew to love - Gwen. The first movie, she just seemed like "oh she has all her shits together, she's already really cool, obvious romantic interest of the protag" and that was all I thought of her. I didn't dislike her, but she was kind of boring to me compared to the other characters. The 2nd movie made me love her very much though!
my anti otp - Hobie and Miles. I've seen some people ship those two and I'm not really a fan. (I wouldn't really use "anti" though since I don't really like bashing on other's ships. Just know it's not for me)

Which cast do you picture in the Homeward Bound universe? Id assumed it was tom holland’s peter because harley doesn’t exist in the other spidermen’s movies but I also know you’re a Garfield-Spidey fan and that Harry Osborn and Gwen haven’t been MCU’d—just out of curiosity!!
okay hi this is the first of my current EIGHT unanswered hb asks omg. i'm !!!!! actually shaking with excitement about the fact that i'm about to get to ramble SO MUCH about hb holy shit. okay. okay.
so, obviously harley is based off ty simpkins, but i kind of?? like i mean, yes ty literally plays harley lmao, but also i picture him SLIGHTLY differently in my head. like how he looks in endgame i feel is a different vibe than how ty looks irl. i don't know if that makes any sense at all but i can't explain it, it's just like. he looks like ty but to the left. that's harley in my head. i cannot describe it any other way.
hb peter is 100% tom's peter because homeward bound is 100% canon compliant up to no way home (except for some headcanons such as peter having an uncle ben but uncle ben dying when peter was still really little in order to not fuck with the spidey home trilogy being peter's origin story - there are some other headcanons too that i can't remember off the top of my head, but i tried to make all of them align with mcu as much as possible as to not fuck with canon)
for harry and gwen it's not a spoiler for the most part except for one thing is kinda spoilery but not really? it reveals something about one of their characters that has not been established in the fic yet so just to be safe i'm gonna tag this w the spoiler tag and put it under the cut
okay so i'll start with harry
so there's a lot of variations with harry - sometimes he has brown hair, sometimes reddish hair, usually blue eyes, though i love the idea of him having green eyes because. i mean. duh.
i didn't really think of fan casts for him specifically in hb, i haven't really gone in depth with his appearance in any of the chapters, but @alwaysonlineau made the actor from love, simon, nick robinson, the icon for harry's account and now i kind of can't picture anyone else lmao. nick has hazel eyes which can look greenish at times so i'm here for it. also i loved his acting in jurassic world and in love, simon so i think he could pull off harry pretty damn well.
here's the picture of nick robinson that @alwaysonlineau used that i REALLY love because it definitely has harry energy to me:
Tumblr media
also i love that nick was in jurassic world with ty lmao. the ages are off obviously, nick is 28 and literally played ty's older brother in that movie, but for the sake of a fan cast i think nick when he was early 20's looks very Harry Osborn to me. at least he feels very fitting for fanon harry.
if someone were to actually play harry in the mcu i don't know if he'd feel super fitting, i've seen people mention harrison osterfield for mcu harry which i could see. i also looked through a list of harry fan casts and david mazouz looks harry like to me a bit. charlie heaton was also listed which idk if he could pull harry off but looks-wise i could kind of see. asher angel. i know timothee chalamet's name has been tossed around a bunch and i mean i think he could do it but he doesn't look like harry to me lmao. they'd have to make his appearance work for it.
maybe charlie rowe, who i also saw listed as a fan cast. asa butterfield was on that list as well and i could see the mcu going that route too. but in homeward bound, i pretty much just envision nick.
as for gwen stacy!
so, i thought this before @alwaysonlineau came back, and i know i'm not the only one because i've seen quite a few posts on here and other sites saying the same thing, especially after across the spider-verse came out and gwen had the trans flag and coloring and such, but i really think that hunter schafer would be an INCREDIBLE gwen.
it hasn't been mentioned in the fic yet (mostly because i didn't think of this until i was already like halfway through the fic and then i didn't officially decide on it until across the spider-verse came out) but gwen is trans in homeward bound. it's gonna be made explicitly clear as soon as i can figure out a fitting reason for why it wouldn't have been mentioned so far - it feels as though, since the fic is peter's pov and he's never mentioned it, it should be that gwen hasn't told him so he doesn't know, which means finding out is going to have to be a thing. not like a huge thing but it's going to have to become a scene of some kind that establishes the fact that she's trans and then also addresses why she didn't tell him/any of them.
i haven't decided on how yet - it might be a super casual thing where she just never thought to mention it because it's just a part of who she is and she doesn't feel the need to tell people because she doesn't think it really matters (and also hunter schafer has stated that she passes as a cis woman i remember seeing an interview after euphoria season one where she was talking about it and how like yeah it's great to have trans inclusion and representation in euphoria but also she knows that she's white and passing and that's probably a big part of why she got the role, which basically i'm mentioning because if hunter were to play gwen then gwen would also be able to pass very easily as a cis woman as well). i might make it a bigger thing, like maybe she experienced something (some kind of transphobia) in the past that made her very wary about telling people and then by the time she wanted to tell them it had been a long time so she didn't know how, etc. etc. etc.
i'm queer but like i'm a cis lesbian not trans or nonbinary or anything, i do have multiple trans friends and i've seen a lot of posts and art and such about different lives and experiences trans people have had but i'm still cis, so if anyone who isn't cis has any input on what they'd like to see, please let me know. i don't want to approach the topic with a lack of sensitivity and i want to have trans rep in hb but if people want it to be a casual thing then that's what i'll do, if people want there to be more to her backstory then i'll do that instead.
but yeah, basically i can REALLY picture hunter as gwen, like some of her acting in euphoria i feel has some potential gwen energy to it (specific scenes, some displays of emotion that i could see gwen having, etc) but also this picture of hunter feels VERY gwen to me:
Tumblr media
also also, obviously zendaya is rue in euphoria so her and hunter are friends and have great chemistry together and as a gwemj lover that means a lot to me pdfjg
another possibility i could see is emma meyers, aka enid from wednesday. i think she's a great acctress and could encompass gwen's energy pretty well too, but my first pick would be hunter!
long answer short:
in homeward bound, i picture harry to look like nick robinson and i picture gwen to look like hunter schafer.

hi so I wanna say I love Andrews portrayal of spiderman and Peter parker were both great charming and endearing to me but ot doesn't take away the fact for me that the movies were almost starlight up terrible especially the second one we had glimpses of what the movie could be in some scenes that were so great but other than the wonderful performances bu stone garfield and sally and the actor who played uncle Ben and a few scenes here and there the movies were bad really bad I loved that andrew and his Pete got a redemption arc for nwh I love that it's what sold the movie for me he's a great actor who was robbed of a decent script and too much studio interferences really mangled the end product
But i do feel like people are unnecessarily harsh on the mcu version of spiderman while it makes me now uncomfortable thinking About Tony stark is musk's wet dream but the movies were really great for the audiences they are marketed towards young kids the class struggles are very much present just in a more subtle way and nwh has fixed most of the "problems" that mcu spiderman had they are also in general the best spider man movies out there if you remove the rami trilogy this is just my take but Maybe it's just the fact that I'm much younger and enjoy these movies more idk
I don't want to offend anyone or make their day worse sorry if I did that I do love your work just an interesting topic of debate in my opinion lots of love ❤️
I never said they were great movies just that Andrew was a great Peter Parker haha. Although I still think they're really fun movies as long as you take them as something campy instead of as a work of art. Ignore the major plot holes and shit script and just enjoy the ride of watching a 2012 superhero movie.
Personally, I like to pick out the parts that I loved about it and focus on those rather than the poorly done bits. They literally have some of my favorite Spidey scenes in them. The part when all the construction workers move their cranes together because they see Spider-Man struggling after being shot and he saved Ponyboy's son earlier in the movie and now Ponyboy gets a chance to repay him back so he gets all his buddies together to help and Peter swings from crane to crane to get to where he needs to...a literal perfect Spider-Man moment! It's up there with the scene in Toby's when all the people in the subway lift an unconscious Peter up and carry him back inside, maskless, and tell him that his secret identity is safe with them and then hand him back his mask. It's the scenes when NYC backs Spider-Man as their hero that always get to me. I don't remember if Tom's Peter has anything like that because I've only seen his movies once (and one was on a plane lol) and my memory is poop so I can't speak on that. But I like whenever they add in NYC backing up Peter in his films. It was very Spider-Man esque. He's a man of the people, esp the working class, and the people usually like to repay him for that whenever he can help. Andrew's version did a good job of representing that.
Gwen's death was also good. Andrew acted the hell out of it. I mean...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Besides being visually dark as hell, his perfect hugging of her dead body cradled in his arms! They don't shy away from it and they linger on the quietness and raw emotions of that scene for a minute. It was emotional and powerful and done well.
Then the humor in the movies was wonderful! Andrew nailed the one liners and body movement. To me, he was such a cheeky Spider-Man especially going from Toby who didn't quite have that cocky Spidey charm like Andrew did. If you don't look at the movies as a groundbreaking work of art, I don't think they're as bad as people claim them to be haha. They're not great but they're also not the worst movies I've ever seen. It keeps you entertained and excited and can pack a punch when it wants to.
I do think you nailed it though when you said that it depends on your age. I was in the perfect age group when The Amazing Spider-Man came out. I had grown up watching Toby's movies but I was too young to really see them as anything more in depth than just Spider-Man swinging around. TASM released when I was 19. It was the most perfect age to see it in theaters and fall head over heals in love with Mr. Garfield as he blushes and hides his face in flowers after showing up at Gwen's bedroom window. Or when he shows up in middle of the night covered in blood and gets half naked while she tends to his wounds. CHOCOLATE HOUSE. The raw, horny, sexiness of their chemistry together!! He is by and far the horniest of all the Spidey babies. All of their kissing scenes!! How could I not fall in love that man?? He was on the big screen and I was horny for a boyfriend and he gave me everything I needed for my teenage fantasies. And then you add on the chokehold that Andrew and Emma had over the young world when they dated. 2012 was a crazy time. People genuinely thought the world was ending and Peter Parker was back on the big screen hahaha. What more could ya ask for? ;)
It was like it was made for my generation of nerdy ladies to thirst over. By the time Tom's movies came out, I was already way to old to be invested in a high school kid. I thought he was a good actor and has great chemistry with MJ and Ned but I just don't have that same pure, all in love that I did with Andrew.
I honestly don't even remember Tom's other Spidey movies, I remember a couple of scenes here and there, but NWH was perfect. I don't think I've ever been so equally breathless and excited while watching a movie in my life.

ssm venom goes brrrr
I need everyone to understand how strongly I feel about the portrayal of Venom in Spectacular Spider-Man.
A disclaimer to begin. Yes, this version has Eddie being very eager to bond with the symbiote. Yes, he does say 'Yes' is a way that's too eager to be not in some way turned on. This is me addressing the elephant in the room.
I first want to talk about Eddie Brock, who in this iteration is not much older than Peter Parker, and works at the ESU Genetics Laboratory as a lab assistant under Drs. Martha and Curt Conners. It's clear that Eddie and Peter are close, seeing as Eddie had already put in a good word for Peter with the Conners, which aided in him getting the position of an intern (along with Gwen Stacey). However, their history is a lot deeper than just good friends.
In the season one episode 'Group Therapy,' an embittered Eddie Brock takes Mary Jane out for a motorcycle ride, during which he explains just how far back him and Peter go. Most versions of Eddie's parents involve his mother dying during childbirth and his father either being abusive or absent. In this version, however, Eddie's parents were both (if Peter's parents are anything to go off of) scientists. The Brocks and the Parkers started a laboratory together, seeing as they were all friends with one another, which therefore pushed Eddie and Peter into being friends. Tragically, while attending a conference together, Eddie and Peter's parents all died, leaving them both orphaned. Peter, of course, had his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, but it's left unclear as to what happened to Eddie. Obviously, he and Peter stayed as close friends, but it's never expanded upon beyond that, aside from when Eddie is fighting Peter as Venom, when he says that Peter had his aunt and uncle, whereas he had no one.
Peter was like a little brother to Eddie, which is why he was so hurt by Peter taking pictures of Dr. Conners as The Lizard instead of helping with development of a gene cleanser (he was helping as Spider-Man), Peter (from Eddie's point of view) lying to Gwen Stacey so he could go with Mary Jane to their fall formal, and (supposedly) standing back and taking pictures as Spider-Man stole the symbiote from the ESU lab. It's these events that lead Eddie from liking Peter, to outright hating him, as Peter not only nearly cost Dr. Conners his life, but indirectly got Eddie let go from his job at ESU.
And when he bonds with the Venom symbiote, it basically shifts his entire perspective. Not only does the symbiote tell Eddie that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, but it provides him with the ability to get his revenge in a more direct way than driving recklessly in NYC traffic.
This version of Venom is just so fucking cool. It's hulking and menacing with giant claws, the sharp teeth and prehensile tongue are present and only further encourage the monstrous image that is conjured when one thinks of 'Venom.' And there are plenty of smaller details to appreciate, such as the voice. When Eddie and the symbiote are first 'Venom,' they speak a little out of step with each other, with the more Eddie voice speaking first, and the more symbiote voice having a delay, sort of like an echo. It shows that they have a similar mindset, but aren't quite on the same page. Further exemplified in how quickly the symbiote abandons Eddie the minute Spider-Man surrenders. Showing that Venom wasn't quite Venom yet, but the symbiote was just using Eddie as a ride back to Spider-Man.
But that's not to say the symbiote didn't see Eddie's value.
Unlike how Peter acquired the symbiote (he stepped on it and it bonded to his suit), the symbiote actively called out to Eddie. Also unlike with Peter, the symbiote is allowed more wanton destruction when bonded to Eddie. I've seen some people say that Eddie and Venom work so well together because they're capable of playing off of each other's strengths and weaknesses, and I feel like SSM Venom is a perfect example of that. When Venom returns in season two, Eddie and the symbiote use their combined strengths and weaknesses to their advantage. Eddie, someone already knowledgeable in the sciences and who helped synthesize the gene cleanser, would be able to not only get them access to as much gene cleanser as they need, but would've also known that it'd leave Peter totally defenseless if ingested. Utilizing Eddie's logical thinking and connections, Venom was eventually able to muscle Peter into a corner, both literally and figuratively, and nearly managed to successfully destroy Spider-Man and expose his identity to the world.
Admittedly, I do indulge in a little SymBrock, so I love seeing whenever it's addressed. Especially if Eddie's feelings towards the symbiote were explicitly that of love ("...You'd eventually lead me to the one I love," and "... It only loves me for the hate.") in 2008. I mean, props where it's due, showing a toxic, co-dependent relationship between a man and a masculine-presenting sentient goo was very brave of them. At least Eddie is heavily dependent on the symbiote. When it first rejects him, Eddie screams and faints, begging for it to 'not leave him.' Suffice to say, the symbiote took advantage of not only Eddie's underlying anger issues, but his co-dependent tendencies and general isolation. The second time it rejects him, Eddie literally scratches at the shower drain and has to be escorted out of the scene strapped to a gurney because of how distraught he was. Especially considering it didn't opt to leave itself, but was forced out of his body by the gene cleanser.
And that was the last SSM saw of Venom, as it was cancelled after two seasons. But come on, how amazing would a return of Venom/Eddie Brock as a possible anti-hero be?
In the season two episode 'Growing Pains,' it's revealed that a number of people placed in Ravencroft (which is seemingly a high-security mental hospital in this version) were placed there after fights with Spider-Man, including Colonel Jupiter (John Jameson) and Electro. Doc Ock was also placed in there for a brief period). Logically, it only makes sense to assume that Eddie Brock would also be placed into Ravencroft. Coincidentally, Cletus Kasady is also inside of Ravencroft.
Give me Cletus non-subtly threatening and getting close to a disinterested Eddie Brock who just wants to recover (either his mind or the symbiote).
Give me Eddie reuniting with the symbiote and them coming to an agreement.
Give me CARNAGE.
My peace has been spoken. Farewell.

I know I mostly when I read the chapters I take my time and sit with the chapter and think about it and read other people's review of the chapters and then come to you with what I think but I feel like this one deserves an instantaneous reaction from me also because this and pt 18 I'm probably never going to re read again depending heavily on what the ending of this story or the next few chapters of gonna be like let's get to the point now shall we ? I cried.....I cried heavily while reading the last parts of this chapter whatever healing my poor heart might have seen with honey realising her love for Peter and her acceptance of him as he his no changes is completely undone by the ending of this chapter I can say with full confidence no matter what the ending of the story may this chapter was the most painful for me to read and will remain so there were beautiful moments in this chapter too which might get overshadowed or overlooked given how this part ends so I want to talk about those first Peter has the power to simultaneously heal and my heart and hammer a nail in it to break into a million pieces I feel like he has the same power over honey and I'm glad she acknowledges that their relationship dynamic is way too complicated and had way too dependent on circumstance to fully judge who is in the clear here and who is not I have grown to become very protective of honey as a character more than I expected when Miguel was questioning her I was cheering for Felicia to shut him the fuck up and I hope honey learns this too that she has done absolutely 💯 nothing wrong and can do no wrong at least In my eyes she has been innocent has she made a few missepts along the way sure but what ever she has done so far comes from a very rational place you can clearly see if you aren't funking blind Miguel ( according to me ) so yeah her realising that despite the confusing thoughts of wanting to shoot Peter but wanting him to be alive at the same time she is completely irreverently in love with him warms my heart especially the scene where she says she doesn't want him any other way might be one of my favourite moments of them so far Peter choosing to go back to her and Gwen being proud of hum ahhhh this is the good pain the good type like that sting you get in the back of your throat if you drink really aged whiskey it hurts so good it made me feel so emotional ...
...now we must talk about the elephant in the room with the ending let's Disscuss your slow killing me heart and then breaking it apart carefully with a very vert sharp dagger now shall we ? Eddie going away was something I never expected I too like honey was expecting a last minute miracle that would save him but sadly was I mistaken oh boy was i mistaken this was the first stab the tearing apart of heart and tearing up of eyes starts with Nancy why the long face followed but several harsh stabs i don't want to count all the way to Eddie's ending words I cried a lot no joking this is why I've come to love your writing so so much in angst scenes because I love angst but I dread reading it in 's and v cause you've made me so emotionally invested I will say I recognize se that Eddie's death is gonna make honey and Peter avenging his death even more satisfying and raise the stakes even higher than before this doesn't make it any less easier to read this was pain beautiful pain and I relish it but you must also give us an au after this where Eddie is best man at Peter and honeys wedding cause I don't want to live in a world where we don't have that au that's gonna be fully canon in my head I still can't believe we are jnching so close to the ending of this magnificent story you've done such a marvelous job writing youre my hero I love and adore you drink water
🌌
My beautiful beautiful galaxy anon:
I look forward to every one of your asks. I just want you to know!
And I hope the good parts of this story feel like a hug from me to you, because that’s the goal.
Every time I thought about that scene, questioning who it would be and why it was necessary, I kept coming to the conclusion that it’s totally necessary and also horribly heartbreaking. I care a lot about the versions of these characters I made. I love them! And I want each choice to matter. I want their sacrifices and convictions and consequences to matter.
I have such a deep relationship with this story, and much of that is thanks to you, and other very kind supporters who have expressed all the emotions with me.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:
As much as I break you down, I will build you back up.
Love you! I’m gonna get water now

Which spidey blogs do you visit the most/love the most?
You're so amazing!!!
oh man fjaklsdjf well lets see. I don't interact with too many spider-man blogs but there's quite a few that I've seen around that are all really good! and i'd love to write with some of them sometime! there's a few other blogs who write marvel characters and/or characters that show up in spider-man comics though! I'm sure that I'm going to forget someone and I'm worried about that but! thank you!
@dangerstxrlet is definitely one! they love mj and give her the love and attention that she deserves and is worthy of. I legit can't say enough good things about them. follow them, you won't regret it. the amount of knowledge they have on both peter and mj is just phenomenal
@redhead-reporter is super sweet and outgoing and is a wonderful mj too! I haven't done as much as I've wanted to but I love seeing them on my dash and I am all for any and all mj love and appreciate
@symbiotesoldier is another, they're wonderful and do flash thompson the justice he deserves. @emmatriarchy has many muses but also some spider ones. both are wonderful people who I've followed for years and you cannot go wrong at all with them
@modelscience writes a beautiful gwen and gives her a wonderful attention to detail. gwen is often kind of glossed over (maybe not so much anymore with the webb movies) but still, she's so, so important to peter!!
@purrvoke is so freaking great and they love felicia hardy with all of their soul. they also have a pun for their url, i mean. come on. how can you go wrong with that?? I love tossing ideas around with, scratch and the fact that we both are obsessed with ben (clone) and felicia is proof that we're correct.
@athicf loves felicia and does her the justice she deserves also. and rightly hates all of a certain writer's work on her. she gets her motivation and characterization down better than a lot of comic writers.
@murdcck is the daredevil and I adore nemo. and peter loves matt murdock. seriously, I love them so much and writing these two is ALWAYS a joy. because, they're just so much fun.
@revenantinflames is the johnny storm that I write with. I love jess so freaking much and I am SO happy to have them back and active on here. peter and johnny are one of the most iconic friendships in all of marvel.
@ircnwrought also writes gwen and she does such a great job too!! I love writing with them and that actually reminds me that I owe them stuff jfklasjdf oop. but they have a lot of other great muses too!
@spiderwcman writes mayday SO well and she’s a character that gets overlooked by so many. she’s got so many cool verses for her and so many great interactions and dynamics, I love seeing them all unfold.
I know none of these are spidey blogs but they're all characters that are super important to peter so <3 I hope that helps

The Little Things I Love About ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE
Tumblr media
Just like the one I did for PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH, and just like the one I did for STRANGE WORLD, here's a little list of particular little details I loved in a detail-packed... Like, literally jampacked movie... SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE:
So far, I have only seen this movie once all the way through in theaters, caught multiple sections over and over at my movie theater job, and again in full on Blu-ray once. I've watched and rewatched sections since, always finding cool stuff. I may revisit the post and update it, too, like I did w/ the previous ones.
Also, MASSIVE SPOILERS ahead... Just in case you still haven't seen this months-old movie...
Much like the first SPIDER-VERSE... Tons of stuff to catch in the glitching opening logos. Logo/design p0rn aaaaall around.
There's already a lot to love in the opening Medieval Vulture attack set-piece, but my favorite detail? As an Italian-American? "Ciao, ragazza!" Complete with the parchment paper script "Bye, girl!" accompanying it. Any elementary school-age kid watching this now knows a little Italian, that's cool!
Lyla's first scene in the movie. Whichever version, too, whether it's the fist-bump or the selfie... I love how she just glitches and zips in and out, while Miguel keeps asking her in vain to call for back-up. Just an out-of-nowhere display of what kind of quirky relationship these two have...
Many have written about the scenes of Gwen and her father, Captain George Stacy, and how they hit very close to home. In that, they perfectly mirror some folks' experiences with coming out. Myself included, whether it's Miles or Gwen... It's even more effective with Gwen, because there are a lot of not-so-subtle hints that she could be a trans girl. (i.e. the dad having a trans flag on his uniform, Gwen having a "protect trans kid" flag, her room turning into trans flag pastel colors when she reconnects with her father at the end of the movie, etc.) I feel it's twice as hard-hitting in the opening action sequence because Captain Stacy has no idea the white-and-pink Spider-Woman is his daughter, loathes Spider-Woman for not-unfounded reasons (he's rightfully upset that Peter Parker is dead) but is taking it way too far (revenge territory), and he's also a cop. Here's this girl trying to reason with a hardened gun-wielding tough guy, who even fires the gun, prompting Gwen to remove the mask... And all the little complexities in the animated acting on George's face, the shock of his daughter being Spider-Woman, mixed with his grief over Parker's death and his sheer anger... It's maybe a minute or two, but goddamn did these animators go off. That's what anchors these movies amidst all the nerd/reference-stuff, spectacle, and dynamic changing art styles.
And to elaborate on this... This is basically a movie about a queer kid running off, without a home, while another one tries to find their people and be with them... Not prepared for the gatekeeping that's ahead... and some of us queers either experience something like those specific things or have a feeling of not belonging. (I also really dig how Jessica Drew is almost like a surrogate mother for Gwen, a parent of sorts who takes her in after showing her father who she is. Almost, as her protectiveness soon starts to wear off and gives way to sarcastic coldness after Gwen pays Miles a visit.) And the little nuances of both of their struggles trying to make it in this truly "elite" Spider-Society. It works perfectly through either Miles' lens or Gwen's.
Lots of graphic design and logos in that short convenience store scene, too. Lots for someone like me to look for.
The Spot seems to have linework going on inside him, of his anatomy and structure... Not dissimilar to the Xerography process used by Disney for animated productions from 1960 to 1985, and how the process overriding the clean-up animation process meant that you saw lots of rough linework, sketches, and planning inside of the characters. Like the rawness of the drawings preserved in the finished films. That technique is often paid homage to in other animated works, such as Tomm Moore's Irish triptych films that he did for Cartoon Saloon.
Much was written about, especially because one of the trailers showed this gag, Rio Morales snapping her finger upon hearing that Miles got a lower grade in Spanish class. A little after that, while Jeff is speaking, the look on her face. How utterly INSULTED she is- Again, just, ooh, great animated acting all around.
"Maybe get off the kid's a-
The first universe Spot visits, love that it's very 2D-looking and very, *very* comic book, a hint of pulp and Art Deco and '60s modern rolled into one... before giving us Venomverse (oh I'm sorry, SUMC) and LEGO.
Much of the Morales' rooftop party scene is just jam-packed to the moon and back with all these little writing nuances, tying in all this stuff about being a teen who is hiding something, reasoning with one's well-meaning but very controlling parents, all the humor and drama that stems from that. All that awkwardness, the embarrassment, how the guests play off of all of that, etc.
Miles pursuing The Spot whilst trying to talk to him... I mean, the entire Mumbattan sequence alone mops the floor w/ maybe 95% of superhero movies made in the last 5 years, but... This scene in particular, where the two are flying through a bunch of intricately-designed and planned buildings full of people with all these swooping camera angles- GO HARD they did.
Hobie's universe particularly referencing the ransom note letterforms that made up the cover of the iconic Sex Pistols album NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS, HERE'S THE SEX PISTOLS. They leaned *hard* on early punk from the '70s, more so than any other era, and that's so damn cool.
The subtle animated acting from Gwen during Miguel's warning to Miles about disrupting canon. All the inner-conflict over believing in it or not. And even before that, too, particularly in the aftermath of the Mumbattan Alchemax building collapsing onto the bridge.
And during that whole scene, as the different Spiders start to surround Miles, I like how Hobie is more turned to the side than facing Miles directly, unlike the other Spiders. That's just seconds before it's made clear that Hobie is on Miles' side.
The super-widescreen, Panavision-esque aspect ratio change when - during the whole Spider Society chase - Miles lands on Widow and is confronted by Web-Slinger. Really channeling the spaghetti Westerns, even if that bit has been done before, its use here - very clever.
"SNITCH!"
Miles' smirk when he begins to use his electric charge power to knock Miguel off of him, right before he's about to tell him - and by extension everyone who ever doubted him or told him he can't do what's right or what he desires - off.
The "Go Home Machine" literally being an elaborate spider, itself, inside a nest. Everything, right down to the machinery, all spider-themed. Simply going ALL OUT. Also that scanner that Miguel angrily rips out of the console... What a hilariously excessive work of art that thing is, and we only really see it for like 5 seconds.
Like I said, will likely add more, and this probably read more like yet another review of this film that I really, really love. I apologize for that, lol.

27, 28 with Jason, and 28 with Gwen?
27. What comic book trope do you hate the most?
Fridging. But like, real fridging. The original fridging. The Gail-Simone's-criticism-of-sexist-writing fridging. I hate the fact that the TV Tropes article completely divorces it from its origin and says anybody can he fridged. No, because the point of fridging is that it's sexist writing. I particularly hate what they've done with Gwen Stacy (the original one) because THEY KEEP RE-FRIDGING HER. Did y'all see what they did with Judgement Day? From the deepest recesses of my heart, fuck you Marvel, so fucking much. Anyway read Under the Pink Hood
28. What’s a popular fandom take you disagree with about Jason?
I've said the Pit Rage thing so many times now so let's go somewhere else. He doesn't resent Tim. He never resented Tim. It was always about the fact that Bruce hadn't learned from Jason's death and had put another kid in the costume. While brutal, the intention behind the Titans Tower attack actually isn't that different from Jason trying to convince Mia to stop being Green Arrow's sidekick. He's trying to protect people he sees as children in way over their heads. And honestly? I'm not sure he's wrong. I think sidekicks made a lot of sense when they were first introduced as a vehicle for children to see themselves in comics aimed at them. But comics aren't what they used to be. Not only are a lot of them barely meant for teenagers let alone children, in general the history of sidekicks has been incredibly dark with a lot of them dying or facing other incredible traumatizing events. This is another example of a case where Jason is correct and incorrect at the same time. But let's move on before I spend six hours explaining the intricacies of Jason's role as a foil again
28. What’s a popular fandom take you disagree with about Gwen?
I'm assuming you mean Spider-Gwen because, well, it's me, but forgive me if you meant 616!Gwen (or Gwenpool, I guess?? but that seems unlikely).
Honestly the fandom for Spider-Gwen/Ghost Spider is relatively small and I just haven't seen that many bad takes? Like for the Spiderverse movie it's mostly people shipping her with Miles which I approve of, and the fans of the comics have for the most part read all of her appearances and have very grounded takes on her. I've never seen a bad ship for her I swear. I guess that couple on TikTok that dresses up as Spider-Man!Peter (it's the singing through the MCU guy if you know him) and Spider-Gwen are missing the point, and I actually actively dislike that ship, but I've literally never seen anybody else do it???? Like I guess sometimes she's portrayed as more innocent than she actually is but honestly Gwen-Verse is a worse story for Gwen than any fic or fandom take I've ever seen. Like, good for us, fuck yeah earth-65 fans we're the fucking best

Miles in the NSR world may have A) Plant powers[he is often associated with Sunflowers] or B) The ability to manipulate color and use them like spray paint on enemies [this would tie in nicely to his dad and uncle's past bc they also used to do graffiti together]
Gwen and Hobie may have similar powers that make them able to make their music into tangible things [Gwen kinda does that in the drum solo intro and Spider-punk literally busts in with the guitar attack]
Peter B and Mayday or Miguel are the only people with actual spider-powers since Peter B is closest to the OG Spiderman and Miguel is half spider in the comics
Noir could have color powers too
Peter Porker could have the hammerspace and "survive anything as long as it is funny" powers
Pav with Eve-like reality-bending powers
... sorry for ranting about powers in your ask
Oooh yeah! I think I've seen some sunflower art with Miles in it, didn't know he was associated with them though! But I REALLY like that color/graffiti power set a lot! The ability to go invisible or at the very least camouflage could also be a skill he has. Which makes me think he is more like Eve than like Yinu.
BUT! I also like Pav with Eve's reality bending powers because it makes the scene where he rants about "Chai tea" really funny. Instead of it being a one-off gag for the audience, it is something that actually can happen with Pav's powers. (Thinking this because pretty sure in all the other flashback/lore dumps we get in the movies doesn't have the characters actually interacting as the teller describes who they are. So Pav and Miles interacting during his introduction seems unique, but I could be forgetting stuff).
Gwen and Hobie taking B2J's position or at the very least having the same abilities as Mayday and Zuke seems really plausible. I have this power of like a seismic slam that Quida can do, and honestly I can see Gwen trying to mimic that power and have her own vibration-related power set.
Oh is Miguel like full on half spider? That's cool! Didn't know that! Definitely him being a spider elemental is something I can see happening. Which can also translate to Peter B and Mayday. Peter B and Miguel become friends because of their shared abilities in the same way I think Adder and Cyril became friends with their relation to metal abilities.
Noir having color powers is a possibility, but think of this, how about wind powers? He says wherever he goes the wind follows, and it is shown that is true in the movie with his movie trench coat I'm pretty sure. Like maybe something happened with Miles, or more likely with another person who controls colors, and Noir lost his colors somehow. Miles wants to help him get his colors back but it's been so long that Noir is happy with how he is now. So he stays black and white, and still has wind powers.
Don't know exactly how Peter Porker would work in this AU, but for some reason I see him in a role similar to Ellie but honestly that's just because he is an animal. Hammerspace powers also seems to connect to what Eve has. I think it would be funny if Porker had some kind of time power like Tatiana, but made it look like cartoon logic powers. Like imagine something falling on him, and everyone thinks he got squished, but instead he was just able to speedily basically teleport like Tatiana does and escape it. Then he makes it out to be like a joke that he got flattened or something.
Also don't be sorry for ranting about powers! I love hearing people's headcanons! It is also helping me figure things out if I ever want to actually do anything with a Spiderpeople in NSR AU.
