ljósálfr gale and dökkálfr astarion! 🦋🥀 bringers of dreams and nightmares
based on the hit mobile game fire emblem heroes. download it for free today! (Please Do Not)
a lot of notes on the designs under the cut, i had so much fun with these!
gale
- the eyes on the wings are mystra's
- the colors are based on his aurora stargazing scene
- he's based on the dream-king freyr, who takes human children in unfortunate circumstances and turns them into fairies that become "their most extraordinary selves" but can never return home. he feels guilty for intervening in their fates, but the ends justify the means to grow the power of his realm :-) he mourns the fact that humans stop dreaming (as in losing their ambitions) as they grow older
(feel like this is the type of thing god gale who's slowly becoming more like mystra would do and convince himself nooo it's completely ethical i'm being benevolent actually)
astarion
- the eyes on the yellow wings are cazador's
- one set of wings are yellow inspired by his longing for the sun
- the flowers are the same flowers on his grave, the garden star-of-Bethlehem
- he's based on the character plumeria, who's the bringer of lustful dreams and is disgusted by the humans who have such indecent desires. (she's one of the humans transformed/kidnapped into a fairy) she puts up a sensual front but hates the way people leer at her. nonetheless she must deliver those vulgar desires as dreams, doing a job she hates :-) all she wants is true compassionate love removed from lust... is this ringing a bell
please don't let any of this trick you into believing feh has a good story. but also expect more feh x bg3 from me in the future lol

No hate to Steven or anything and a lot of the flack he's gotten in the yt comments is unwarranted, but one thing I think is interesting is how on Watcher he was painted as a business-guru type and yet he was like... a chemical engineering major. Like so was I for most of college and you know what we never learned? How to run a business

A small spider-man 2099 reading guide
Just watched atsv and wondering where to start getting into Miguel O’Hara? Hate trying to figure out comic timelines? Well hopefully this guide can help a little bit. Please note its far from a definitive guide and could probably use some work but I'm hoping it helps someone out!
Also not including spider-verse appearances or those in most other comics, because we could be here forever listing every comic appearance and this is meant to be a quick guide
Miguel's original appearance was in Amazing Spider-Man #365, but that was more of a preview than anything else. I've split it pre-2000's and post-2000's, but listen to me if you have to pick one comic to read out of all of this make it the original 1992 run. You basically cannot go wrong with just reading 1992.
A few have been marked with asterisks because you really don't have to read them but it felt wrong to not include them on the list.
Pre 2000's
Spider-man 2099 (1992): Literally Required Reading. Keep in mind that the last two issues had different writers and are kinda disregarded by just about everyone. Issue #16 starts the crossover event Fall of The Hammer, a mini-guide to which I've included below. The Special and Annual take place in between issues but it's easiest to just read them last.
Spider-Man 2099 Meets Spider-Man (1995): It's short, it's sweet, give it a read.
*2099: World of Tomorrow (1996): At the time this was meant to close off all the 2099 plots, theres lots of other 2099 characters in here but a fair bit of Mig.
*2099: Manifest Destiny (1998): Further closure to the 2099 world, again lots of other characters but still a solid read. Basically waves away the last two issues of sm2099 (1992) in a slightly hilarious way and worth reading just for that.
Fall of the Hammer crossover mini-guide:
Spider-man 2099 (1992) #16
Ravage 2099 #15
X-men 2099 #5
Doom 2099 (1993) #14
Punisher 2099 (1993) #13
Post 2000's
*Superior Spider-man (2013) issues #16-19: Largely set up but its cool too
Spider-man 2099 (2014): You can read this without the Superior Spider-man setup but depending on your prior comic reading experience you may be a bit confused. If you're a seasoned reader and used to taking weird comic shifts in stride due to missing some random issues of a completely different comic you'll be fine
Spider-man 2099 (2015): Solid run, I don't have much to say about it honestly
Marvel's 2099 (2019 event): you are better off looking up a separate guide for this one it is not my ballpark

i think my biggest decked out 2 meta thought is that the hermits are currently seriously undervaluing the ethereal cards on account of them losing them in the future, and in general undervaluing the entire crowns shop in favor of the frozen shards.
the thing is, they're right about moment of clarity; building up your permanent deck is more important than that temporary boost, and moment of clarity just doesn't do enough for any given run to be worth it if it's anything other than 'the only thing left you can afford'. they're right about that specific ethereal card.
the PROBLEM is that they're extending that calculus to the crowns shop. but that's not the same trade-off in the crowns shop! literally every item in the crowns shop is one-time use! so the ACTUAL trade-off there is "will this item i buy help me enough to make up for the number of dungeon runs it took to buy it". when you look at it like that, it becomes clear that frozen shards are probably a little overpriced if you're just going to run easy or medium, and are ESPECIALLY overpriced if you're not sure you can reliably win that run. eight crowns, especially early game, seems to currently take three or four runs to build up, and that's if you're lucky with treasure on all of them and win all of them!
meanwhile, three crowns is one or two runs - one if you're lucky, two if you're not, from what i've seen. for those three crowns, though, you can get one of the ethereal cards, which will then help ensure you win your next run, getting you to another permanent card. for a little more, you could get something like tango as the dungeon lackey, and REALLY amp up your ability to make sure you win a run.
now, later on in the game when treasure is more reliable and runs are more valuable, this calculus probably changes; suddenly, one extra run is worth a lot more than it currently is. it's just that one run RIGHT NOW is worth like, one common card and a crown, unless you add something to it to make it worth more, whereas a copy of like, pay to win, could bump a run up to an uncommon card, and that's way more valuable than an additional run, i think.

if your punk relies on being mean and angry* more than it relies on building a community, then it's meaningless.
*specially if it's towards other marginalized people. the fuck you're doing?

fuck around, find out
i've been procrastinating SO hard lately it's unreal. so i saw these two with their homoerotic tension and i just had to draw you know (also in my gouache brush phase because the texture is Pleasing to someone who usually doesn't draw with any texture at all. we're probably going back to flattish colors soon though because sketching with paint is very time and morale consuming)
closeups below keep reading
