first off: lady cheronin. is she pretty as all hell? yes. but they completely switched up the plot so that instead the patrol commander got pissed that lloyd technically didn't run and she stepped in for him so he could meet the chief.

also she's the opposite of komanchi, who she replaced, in that she hates her tribe's obsession with speed and says that speed isn't everything. which. I don't know how to feel about. like yay for cool female character? but also no for fucking up the plot again-

this part... I need to be put down. holy fuck I hate this. the groan I let out,, you know what. lloyd deserved that kick. and I need javier to die in a fire for that comment (and for once again not protecting lloyd). novel them would never.

and there they go making up shit with this unnecessary legend of the light speed human. we couldn't just have cherokan say his worries about the centaurs speeding and lloyd then suggesting to build the coliseum nooo we need to add intrigue by adding some bullshit legend into the mix huh. what a laugh.

also I didn't add it due to mobile photo limit but cherokan just straight up tells him they have the taupo over there safe and sound before this?? where's the fucking suspense lhm!! stop just spoonfeeding us important information!! >:(

Purple Hyacinth analysis: the contrast between episodes 43 and 142

I made a thread on twitter to show how episode 142 was an obvious callback to episode 43 so i decided to post it here as well. Warning: the panels from 43 might be triggering.

First of all we notice Kieran lying a lot in episode 142. The man didn't have a plan at all coming in there and he makes no effort to go around her ability either. It's clear deep down he didn't want to end their partnership, he knows they make a great team but he's doing everything to put distance between them for her sake only. He cares about her so much (read: he's in love with her) and wants to keep her safe.

This is already a huge difference compared to episode 43. Kieran got his walls up so high when Lauren came to the cave. He is acting cold with a disdainful and arrogant attitude, and uses rhetorical questions to avoid lying to her. There's not a single lie from Kieran in episode 43 except for the one where he slips up when he tells Lauren he has always been a monster.

Kieran's "i am merely stating facts" from 142 is obviously a lie while in episode 43 he is actually stating facts: he talks about the atrocities he committed as the Purple Hyacinth. He is proving Lauren right: he is a monster.

Kieran physically hurts Lauren in 43 and it's not a lie when he tells her he wouldn't cry. He is cold and brutal. In episode 142 he could have said something more hurtful in trying to push her away but he can't. He cares about her too much now and would never hurt her again. "I'm not indifferent to what happens to you" = how to tell someone you care about them without actually saying it. Kieran please.

Another obvious callback to episode 43 is that Lauren now admits she was fully aware of the risks from the beginning.

They've come such a long way since then. From Lauren calling him a monster in 43 to her reassuring Kieran in ep 142 about who he is as as a person and that she isn't afraid of him while she takes off his "mask" (the glasses)... i'm not okay.

Lauki's dynamic is so well written and i'm still in awe of how Eph and Soph handled the development of their relationship after what happened in 43. Lauren telling Kieran she trusts him and won't back down is so important and yet another milestone in their relationship.

To end this post i want to point out the differences in atmosphere and lighting as well. Episode 43 is cold and dark, and episode 142 has a very warm atmosphere.

Conclusion: Lauki's development is wonderfully written. I dare say it's legit one of the best dynamics i've ever come across in a piece of fiction.

EP 142 - quick memo:

The Class A scene with Aoyama was quite good. Kirishima got some extra lines and it made the class stance clearer. The VAs delivered as expected.

They made a reference to Shouto's line in Class A vs OFA (let us share your burden)

The dorm scene was only ok - I'm sad they messed up Bakugou's trash panel

The scene in the workshop also got some extra lines and explanations

Shouto putting his hand on Midoriya's shoulder was nicely emphasised. The OST is also really good!!!

It looks like the movie tie-in starts as Class A takes off for the search. The anime changed Mt Lady's line to 3 teams vs the manga having only one.

Got the Hawks-Ragdoll Meow scene and All Might's magnets were great too!

UA Big 3 is back! Short-haired Nejire got a bit of extra action

The Aoyama - Aizawa scene was heartfelt and the VAs absolutely nailed it.

TMA RELISTEN — MAG 142

Spoilers, duh !

This one was a rough listen, y'all. On one hand, it was so interesting. It makes a lot of sense that this is where Jon is going with his whole,,, everything. We've seen him slipping a bit more into actively using his powers as of late, and we got to see that again in the last ep. At first, he wasn't aware he had powers at all, and then down the line when he becomes more aware of certain entities/fears existing, he was often not aware that he was even using his in the first place. Then we see a shift where he is aware of these powers and actively trying not to use them very much while knowing he still has to feed his, which is a rough time for him (the whole podcast is a rough time for him lmao rip buddy), and now we've seen another shift. He is actively trying to use his powers and his moral compass might be shifting a little bit ? He still is very much the Jon we know— in the sense that he is still feeling a lot of guilt (survivor's and otherwise) over past events and that he's trying to find control in his life while doing his best to help. But we also see that he's getting more... at ease, I suppose, with feeding into his being an avatar of the eye.

On the other hand, this episode was also genuinely hard to listen to. You can really hear the character's distress and how pained she sounds by having to relive her trauma and then feeling like she can't escape it or Jon. She has no clue who he is, just that he's some freak of a guy who kinda took her autonomy away for a moment there and forced her to tell her story that she did not want to tell. It's rough. Also it really highlights the more creepy aspects about The Eye.

I've also seen the theories about her either lying or it maybe not being Jon (he wasn't at all mentioned by name), but I think the lying would be a,,, particularly bad choice on the end of the people writing the show for obvious reasons. Slippery slope thing. On it possibly not being Jon,,, idk actually. He wasn't mentioned but I think it would be a nice addition if it was him because it makes sense within the current narrative since we do see him struggling with his humanity. But hey, who knows. Could be some other supernatural bs. Haven't mentioned the ending much but Martin,,, I love and adore you but you are incredibly frustrating this season. I understand why, but lord. Still love him, I just don't like this plotline for him too much but it does make sense in the narrative so I'm locked in. Also shoutout to Daisy for being the only one here with critical thinking skills !

Another round of drinks, another round of questions. You, Bob, and Phoenix have been at this for a solid 30 minutes already.

"Alright, alright, next one," Phoenix holds up a finger. "Who is the best at dog fighting?"

You stare at her with a blank face. "Seriously?" You gesture across the bar. "Maverick is literally sitting right there."

Bob agrees.

"That's fair. We did say anyone goes," she laughs.

"Don't let Hangman hear you."

You laugh and take a swig of your drink. You take a look around the bar and try to think up the next question. You have one.

"Who do you think is the best cook?"

"Oh, good one. I don't think I've tried anyone's cooking," Phoenix hums softly.

"Rooster must cook for you," Bob looks at you.

"Of course he does, and he is a very good cook. I was just curious if you think anyone here could make it as a chef," you chuckle.

They both laugh too.

"I'd say I'm a good cook," Phoenix chimes in.

"Then we shall have to put that to the test one day," you smile.

"Deal."

"Who do you think the best dancer is?" Bob asks.

You smile at the pair of them. They roll their eyes. Of course you're going to say Bradley.

"He's the best singer too," you state.

"Anything else?" Bob asks, smiling at you.

"He gives the best hugs," you smile back.

"We wouldn't know," Phoenix grins.

"He gives big bear hugs. The cozy kind of hugs. They're even better because he's tall." They both see the way your face softens.

"Well, he's coming this way, why don't you show us?" Phoenix smiles.

You chuckle and turn around in your seat. Just as she said, Rooster was making his way over to you. You smile at him as he gets closer.

It was Steven who was in control right now. You had just spent the day together, and after getting back to his place, had cuddled up on the bed with the radio playing in the background. You had been talking about your favourite parts of the day, smiling at some of Steven’s antics, and thinking of where to go to next time.

You were sat with your back against the headboard and Steven’s head on your chest. You had your arms wrapped around his shoulders, cradling him to you. While Steven had his arms draped around your torso. He could hear the thumping of your heart, and the vibrations of your laughter.

At one point you had chosen to run your fingers through his hair in a soothing motion. He had relaxed instantly as your massaged his scalp.

Knowing Steven felt so safe in your arms made you smile. Steven had been through a lot, and he deserved some love and affection. He had spent so much time alone, that you couldn’t imagine what that would be like. You promised Steven would always have you.

Marc. Well, he deserves love and affection too, but he’s often a bit stand off-ish with you. You always try to keep some space between you when he’s fronting. He looks out for you, sure, but he’s never been very affectionate with you.

No matter how much you just want to pull him into a hug and take away all his burdens. You want Marc to share his load, take it easy, and let you help.

“I really liked that food stall we stopped at,” Steven says, voice soft.

“Yeah, me too. We can go again next week, if you want to.”

Steven smiles.

“I’d love to.”

You continue to sit there with him in your arms, fingers running through his hair and listening to the music. The conversation dies down from here, but you’re both content and relaxed.

You’re not sure how much time has passed, but after a while, Steven’s hold on you tightens and he buries his face into your shirt. You stop your hand and try to get a look at his face.

“Steven?”

He shakes his head. You look down at him confused.

“Steven? What’s the matter?”

“Don’t stop.”

You freeze. Not Steven. Marc. That’s Marc’s voice.

“Marc?”

“Don’t stop. Please...” He begs, not looking up at you.

Slowly, your hand return to his hair and doing exactly what you had been doing to Steven. 

Marc’s arms tighten just a little more. He’s clinging to you. Eyes shut, hand gripping at your shirt, head tucked under your chin.

Your heart is racing and he can hear it.

Marc’s hold on you loosens up a bit and after a few more moments he looks up at you. You look at him with soft gentle eyes. You don’t say anything. You don’t have to.

He knows you know.

Marc took control because for once he didn’t need Steven to protect him from his pain. You made him feel safe and this is the safest he has felt in a long time.

You nod slowly, trying to understand what Steven had told you. He had spent the last hour going through everything he was suffering with.

He trusted you.

You trusted him.

You believed him.

"Is he here now?"

Steven shifted his gaze around and then returned to you. He nodded slowly.

"Where?"

"Up there," he points in a lazy manner to the rooftops of the chapel behind you. You turn, looking up knowing you won't actually be able to see him.

"Still there?"

"Yes."

You stand up, turn your whole body toward the chapel roof and raise your hand.

"What are they doing?" Kohnshu asks.

He doesn't get a reply from Steven, who is just watching you. He has to bite back bursting into laughter as you stick your middle finger up in the general direction of where Kohnshu is perched.

"The bird for the bird man!" You declare.

"KILL THEM STEVEN!"

Steven gives in and bursts into laughter.

"Is he offended?"

"Definitely."

Peter Parker never considered himself special. Maybe, yeah, having radioactive blood and spider-like abilities makes him different and his vigilante career is out of the norm and fine, yeah, he's on the autism spectrum. Call that "special" if you want. But under all that, he's a regular college student juggling three jobs, an internship, a sad mockery of a social life, and saving the city day and night. The usual stuff.

So when he somehow catches the eye of a blue-eyed mech engineering major with an accent that could turn even Aunt May's brick-hard mashed potatoes to mush, he's only thrown for a minute before he writes it off as a fluke. What could a guy like that see in a guy like him anyway?

Chapter 1: I’m an only child and I’m desperate for attention

Peter’s web-line, tangled desperately between numb fingers, holds as he slams into glass. Air punches from his lungs, but the pane stays intact. He fumbles for his footing, slipping in the smears of scarlet left from his meeting with the window, then begins the slow miserable climb to the ninth floor. His abdomen burns. His head pounds.

He’s not going to pass out. He’s not going to pass out. He’s…

He’s so fired. The pizzas he was supposed to deliver are long gone by now, whether he can remember where he stashed them or not. His boss is going to be furious with him for flaking on his deliveries again. He may have attempted the tried and true ‘It’s not my fault, Mr. Leonetti, I was mugged,’ routine if it wasn’t for all of the cell phones that recorded Spider-Man getting stabbed not two doors down from the pizza shop. He can’t risk anyone making the connection between Spider-Man and Peter Parker.

What was he supposed to do? Not drop everything and strip down to his suit to stop the bodega from being robbed? Not web the clerk out of the way of the stray bullet? Not take the lucky stab between his ribs during his distraction?

Actually, he could have done without that last one. Ned has enough on his plate without having his mess of a childhood best friend slithering through his window every other day with life-threatening injuries.

He breathes a sigh of relief as his fingers curl over Ned’s window sill. His Friend of Spider-Man sense must be tingling because it’s wide open. A strange choice for February, but you won’t hear him whining about his unprecedented change in luck.

He pushes the screen until it pops free of the frame then rolls into the apartment. He lands with a thud on gray carpet and groans as the impact aggravates his stab wound. It’s not until the haze of pain clears enough to see the unfamiliar light fixture above him that he considers how unlike Ned it is to have the window open on a day that’s threatening snow.

Ned hates winter. He hates leaving the window open even a crack and often compromises by stuffing a towel in the crack to keep the draft out because, as much as he hates winter, he loves his best friend more.

As he blinks at the rest of the room, dazed from blood loss, he slowly puts together that this is not Ned’s apartment. It smells wrong for one thing. Like burnt bread and blood (the latter of which, yes, he realizes is his fault), but also there’s a distinct lack of life in this place that’s so contradictory to Ned’s merch and memorabilia-stuffed apartment that for a moment he thinks maybe this one is vacant. No shoes by the door. No pillows on the couch. No DVDs next to the TV. No takeout containers. No books. Nothing.

Other than a mason jar that’s half-filled with odd little trinkets on an otherwise barren bookshelf, the place is lifeless.

Well, nearly lifeless.

In the same moment he decides he ought to haul his broken body out the window and try for the correct window, a tall blond someone wearing a knit sweater and jeans that have been worn soft over time steps into the room waving a towel at the smoke lingering near the ceiling.

The man freezes as they lock eyes.

Oh, mother fudger.

that last run bts ep is the only one ive seen so far. can you tell me why the later ones are misses for u? and maybe recommend a couple eps that are worth watching? ❤️

Honestly I really loved the Flying Yoga episodes and the last Field Day, and Telepathy had it’s charm. I didn’t really hate any of the new ones in their entirety looking back, and each episode had at least several moments that made me laugh or smile… but I guess the energy just felt lacking sometimes? I think some of them just felt a bit boring too maybe (probably because I wasn't a huge fan of some of the concepts). I think it didn’t help that they had the whole “hiatus” thing looming over them.

Tbh, I’ve still yet to get through every Run episode, especially some of the later ones (because I started watching them chronologically) so I’m probably missing some key moments! But here are some of the ones I really enjoyed!

21 - “The Taste of Korea” (this is the first cooking episode so it just has lots of iconic moments!) 25 - “BTS vs Zombie” (a true classic imo) 52 - “The 50th Episode Special, Pt. 2” (I just love theme parks) 54-56 - “BTS Picnic pt 1-4” (kind of like a mini BV with some strong sentimental moments at the end) 64-66 - “BTS school pt1-3” 70-72 - “BTS in Toronto pt1-3” (another mini BV) 80-81 - “Operation 007 pt1-2” (definitely a fan favorite) 84-86 - “Summer Outing pt1-3” (1000% recommend these) 105-107 - “Photo Exhibition pt1-3” (has a really iconic Jimin moment at the end) 119-120 - “Photo Story pt1-2” 127-128 - “777 Lucky Seven pt 1-2” (two of my favorite episodes ever! underrated imo) 141-142 - “BTS Collaboration Variety Show pt1-2" (this is part of a collaboration with the Game Caterer’s, so some of the episodes are on their Youtube channel. Here’s a playlist with the other parts if you’re interested!

IIRC you watch Run BTS 141 and then 1-3 off this playlist, Run BTS 142 and then the rest. The first three YouTube videos where they each have a secret mission are definitely at the top of my list, so chaotic and funny!)

Special Episode - Fly BTS Fly pt1-2 (honestly two of my favorites overall now that I'm looking back)

And an honorable mention to episode 41 (I think it’s pt2 of something) which is the origin of the Lachimola running joke

Anyways, if you feel like it, let me know if you end up watching and enjoying any of these! Like I said, I'm probably missing a lot of great episodes, but these were all super memorable and funny for me!

I was thinking about how episode 142 revisits the captain conference scene with Damnatio from 130 recycled shot for shot until the very end of the sequence, so I took some screencaps and want to talk about it.

So let’s start with the recycled scenes (these are capped from 142)

Now this is where the animation diverges from 130.

In episode 130, the following happens: 

Then in episode 142 we get this instead: 

The shift here is interesting. I’ve speculated before that Damnatio’s scales read the room, which is why we see the scales change in the trial episode once Fuegoleón and Nozel read Julius’ orders. In episode 130 we focus in on only one of the flames, perhaps to highlight Asta’s innocence or perhaps the weight of his fate. In episode 142, we’re looking at the judgment of the captains (maybe Julius, Marx, Noelle, and Mimosa too). THe scales are balanced. This might mean innocence or perhaps neutrality on the subject. 

It’s also interesting to see the shot of the scales and the shot of Damnatio flip in episode 142. I'm not sure how to describe the feeling it conveys in episode 130, but in episode 142, there’s more a weight to the scales appearing especially in a balanced state after Damnatio says he has no objections. 

The changes continue. In episode 130, Damnatio has more to say: 

This isn’t really needed in episode 142, because we move to a scene in which a noble confronts Damnatio about the choices Julius made since he only knows the official fake story about devils and he lost family in the attacks, which leads to this exchange: 

It brings me back to the idea that Julius and Damnatio at least for now seem to be working together. Julius has a plan and it’s tolerable for now to Damnatio. I’ve talked about this before in relation to episode 122 (here). Now, it’s possible that Damnatio aren’t actively working together but Damnatio’s tolerating Julius’ schemes because if Damnatio wants to change things in his opinion for the better of the country, he has to play the long game and not rush things.  

Whichever way it falls, Clover Kingdom benefits from Julius being the Wizard King for the time being. His time magic and ability to foresee things are too advantageous even if he’s now physically thirteen. Also, a literal interpretation of Julius’ prophecy about Asta’s death vs. Clover Kingdom’s future would also lend to playing things at a certain pace to ensure survival. 

Yet, you can interpret Julius’ prophecy in more than one way (like if Asta doesn’t die, perhaps the four kingdoms will unite in some way), much like you can interpret Julius and Damnatio possibly working together in more than one way at this point. So it’ll be interesting to see how these things play out as we gain more insight.
