“Ginger I don’t know about this.”
Your voice held a slight tremble which made you curse yourself mentally. You looked over yourself in the mirror before letting your gaze fall on the woman behind you.
“Henley you look absolutely incredible. Jack won’t know what hit him. Plus this is honestly a very calm mission for it to be your first,” she gave you a smirk as she finished the last of the lace up on the back of the dress.
It was a breath-taking dress. It was a deep red and it had a beautiful skirt with a slit up to about your mid thigh just enough not to show off too much and a corset top that had a heart shaped neckline which was super fitting for the occasion.
Statesman, a secret agency you worked for had learned of a couple selling Top Secret government information. They were using art of all things as a front to do so and tonight they were holding a large gala at the capital as a celebration of the day. Valentine’s Day and the art was all to be focused around love. Statesman finest senior agent, Agent Whiskey, or Jack was set to take the couple down but him showing up alone to an event such as this one was far too risky so here you were. You worked tech along with Ginger and one of the two women who held jobs at Statesman. You never minded a dress and heels, something Ginger curled her nose up at, plus you had all the proper training so you accepted the offer to hang off Jack’s arm.
That thought alone was what made you tremble. Not the mission in itself. Not the knife that sat cool against your thigh. No it was pretending to be Jack’s girlfriend for the night. You wanted so badly for it not to be pretend.
  “Henley?! You ready?”
Ginger’s voice pulled you out of your thoughts and you turned to her and gave her a nod.
“I’m ready as I’ll ever be.”
“Hey you never know this may lead to something,” Ginger finished the sentence in a sing song voice and you felt the small hope blossom in your gut.
You had already promised yourself you wouldn’t get your hopes too high but with every single step you took down the hall to the conference room it seems to grow. You pushed the door open and walked into the room. Champ, Tequila and Jack all stood around, their heads turning your way and all of them wore a look of pure shock. Tequila let out a whistle before smirking and glancing at Jack. He stood there his eyes raking over you several times before they met yours. The two of you shared a look that could only be sexual tension.
“What? The senior agent doesn’t have a line for once?” You smirked as you walked closer to Jack.
A crooked smirk spread across his face and he took your hand, kissed it and then twirled you around.
“I have to say darlin’ you are the first woman to ever render me speechless,” you couldn’t help the blush that rose on your face.
“You two better get going,” Ginger spoke as she glanced from her tablet to the tv in the room.
“We will follow you and be at the rendezvous point just in case you need backup. Get them in custody and get them back here,” Champ gave you both a nod which you returned.
“We got this boss. You ready darlin’?” Jack held his arm out for you and you took it.
“Ready as I’ll ever be,” you gave him a nervous smile and the two of you headed out of headquarters.
Your nerves had built up to an almost shaking manner by the time Jack and yourself walked into the building. There were more people than you thought there would be, couples bustling about and Jack’s cologne was starting to make you dizzy. You had to focus. There was a job to do and you had to push your feelings for the man on your arm aside.
“I think with all these people it’s going to make this a lot easier on us,” Jack whispered in your ear.
“I sure hope you are right.”
The two of you wondered around glancing at the art that scattered the walls. People talked about details on the artist and their work, champagne in their hands. You glanced around catching the sight of the best dressed couple in the whole place and something in your gut knew. You gave Jack a small nudge and nodded your head over in their direction.
“That has to be them,” you whispered as you looked up meeting his eyes for the first time that night.
“You ready to do this darlin’?”
You gave Jack a simple nod and a smirk to lift your confidence. As you walked away you felt Jack’s hand on your wrist stopping you in your tracks before pulling you to him and wrapping his hand around the back of your neck. His lips crashed against yours and your shock only lasted seconds before you kissed him back. The entire world around you fell away and so did your trembling nerves. When he pulled apart the two of you seemed to share the same tension filled look as you did earlier in the conference room before you broke off and went your separate ways. You glided now, with your head held high as you stepped up the stairs. You knew that the room they were secretly meeting clients in was mere steps from the stairs and you knew it would draw the woman’s attention to follow you. You sent your senses into overdrive feeling another presence behind you and hearing the sound of heels trying to be quiet.
“What are you doing up here?” Her voice was sticky sweet with an edge to it.
You spun around with a smile to match. The next few moments seemed to move in slow motion but all so fast.
“Oh just looking for that room there,” you pointed with a smirk as the both of you seemed to break into action.
She was too slow for you and the second she charged at you, you dodged before slamming her against the nearest wall your knife just inches from your throat and her body pinning her to wall.
“Selling Top Secret government information will get all the right peoples attention honey. You only thought ya’ll were being slick, hate to break it to you but you ain’t,” you spun her around spitting the words as you took at the handcuffs that had been rested by your knife and slamming them shut around her wrist.
You walked her down the stairs and saw that the room was a bit of a mess and her partner was lassoed on the ground seething in anger. Jack walked to you with a smirk of pride on his face. He jerked the man up and the two of you started to walk out of the place. Jack tipped his hat at a few people in the room with apologies.
  “Well done darlin’.”
“Thank you Jack. I had such a rush I didn’t even hear all that happening. I wouldn’t expect any less from you though,” you smirked throwing him a wink.
You loaded up the couple, blind folding them and then heading back to Statesman headquarters. The debriefing was short and simple. You could finally breathe again or so you thought.
“I don’t think we should let such a dress go to waste. Let me take you somewhere,” Jack spoke as he leaned on the table looking down at you.
“Well then let’s go cowboy,” you reached out your hand and he took it with a smile.
The restaurant was probably the nicest you had ever been in. Even in the dress you still felt like you didn’t belong. A piano player skillfully played on a small stage not far from your table but it was low enough that Jack and yourself could carry on a decent conversation. The two of you discussed your side of things during the mission, laughing in all the right places and took bites of food in between. Jack took the last bite of his food and he gave you this look for a moment that you caught. You raised your eyebrows at him which soon gathered together in confusion when he stood up.
“May I have this dance darlin’?”
  “Jack people will stare.”
“As they should you are the most beautiful woman in the room, hell in the world,” a smirk crossed his features and you blushed.
You took his hand and he pulled you to the empty place next to the stage. He pulled you close and began to sway with you. Your eyes met with his and the two of you shared that look once again.
“What was that all about?” You suddenly asked.
“Might need to refresh my memory darlin’. I ain't got a clue what you are talking about,” the smirk on his face told you differently but you rolled your eyes and blushed a deep red again.
“The kiss back at the gala. What was that?”
“Darlin’ I think we both know the answer to that,” he pulled you closer his forehead touching yours.
“I need to know for sure Jack. I’ve wanted this for far too long and I-.”
His lips were on your suddenly but this kiss was different. It held a different hunger but it was softer, more gentle. When he pulled away you couldn't help but let out a whimper you wondered if he could hear.
“I’ve wanted this for far too long too darlin’ and if you’ll have me I would want nothing more.”
The smile that spread across your face could have lit the entire world up.
“Of course I’ll have you Jack.”
The two fo you shared another quick kiss full of laughter and smiles as the song finished up.
“Why don’t we get out of here and head back to my place,” Jack whispered in your ear and you simply gave him a nod.
You stopped by the table, Jack leaving a large enough amount of money to cover both the bill and the tip and the two of you practically ran out of the building.
Hands were everywhere as you both struggled into the door of Jack’s home. You couldn't even make yourself stop long enough to look around. All that mattered in this moment was the man who’s lips were attached to yours. Jack suddenly reached down and picked you up from under your knees and you let out a giggle as he did before reattaching your lips to his. You threw his cowboy hat off and discarded it somewhere along the way to the bedroom before lacing your fingers into his hair. It earned a grunt from him before he deepened the kiss. You felt soft sheets suddenly as Jack laid you down across his bed. He hovered over you finally detaching himself from you. Both of you panted with swollen lips for only a few seconds before Jack’s lips began to pepper across your skin. He left a trail of them across every last bit of visible skin before he dropped to his knees over the edge of the bed. You sat up, sitting back on your hands to watch him. He removed your heels slowly as he kissed along your legs you pulling you bottom lip in between your teeth at the sight. His lips made their way up your legs alternating between the two and moving your dress when need be until he came upon where your knife still sat strapped to your thigh. He threw you a smirk before his fingers brushed across your skin to unfasten it and remove it carefully. Then his lips followed causing you to let out the first moan of the night. He eyed your clothed center before moving your panties aside and without much more of a warning dove in. You jumped and let out a gasp that feel into a moan before grasping at his brown locks and pulling at them. His hand snaked up and pushed lightly on your stomach to make you lie down before his arms wrapped around your thighs. You were a mess at this mans mercy and my god had you dreamed about this too many times to count. For a few seconds you almost thought that’s all this was, a dream. That was until your first orgasm rocked through you and you were thankful for Jack’s arms or you might had suffocated him between them. He came up smiling and licking his lips. You pulled him up and kissed him again moaning when you tasted yourself.
“Jack I want you now,” you almost whimpered in desperation.
“Oh darlin’ I know. I want you too. First gotta get you out of this dress,” you couldn't help the laugh as he pulled you up.
You spun around for him and he gently started to unlace your dress, his lips falling along your shoulder and what was exposed of your back and neck as he went. You let your eyes flutter closed and took in the moment you were in and how real it finally felt. This was happening and you couldn't believe it but it was. Finally the dress pooled at your feet and you turned to help Jack out of his clothes letting them join yours on the floor. The two of you fell back into bed finally burning skin on burning skin.
“Jack please,” you whined again giving him a begging look.
“I got you darlin’,” he kissed you on the nose before he lined himself up with you.
He buried himself inside of you and it was the most wonderful feeling you had ever felt. The two of you seemed to fit together like puzzle pieces so perfect and carved out just for one another. He moved first at a slow pace before you were begging for more. Your nails making soft scratches along his back as he rocked into you. His lips left marks in places only the two fo you would know about.
“Faster Jack please,” you moaned out loudly.
He obliged moving his hips quicker and harder. You were so close again and you grasped at him like a lifesaver. Your head flew back and without warning you let go. Your pussy squeezed around him and your entire body shook. Jack was soon behind you burying his head into your neck as he moaned and whimpered. He kept a slow pace until the both of you came down. He pulled out of you and rolled over pulling you with him. He held you there, both of you panting before it seemed the two of you let out a smile and looked at each other.
  “That was…”
“Amazing,” you finished his sentence in hopes you were correct.
“It was better than that. Everything I have always thought it would be and more.”
“Wait you have thought about us together?” You sat up and looked down at him.
“Well hell yeah darlin’ of course I have.”
The smile that spread across your face almost hurt but you couldn't seem to care. He pulled you back to him the two of you becoming intertwined in each other. He laid a kiss sweetly on your forehead and you closed your eyes. In that moment you finally felt safe and loved and you never wanted that feeling to end.

Always Be Mine
Tumblr media
Happy early Valentine’s Day❣️Whether you’re in a relationship or single, I hope you guys have a great day and remember to show love to yourself☺️. This is one of two ideas I have that’s gonna be Valentine’s themed but the other will be a bit late (at least I got one out on the day lol). Hope you guys like it!
Pairing: Chris EvansxBlack Reader
⚠️: something short and full of fluff💕
“Be my Valentine?,” Chris asks kneeling in front of his six year old daughter with red, heart shaped balloons in one hand and a small gift bag filled with her favorite candies in the other.
“...But I already have a valentines daddy.”
The imaginary violins and piano playing in his head as he expected his baby girl to run into his arms with an ecstatic “yes!”, squeezing her tiny arms around his neck, as per usual the past few Valentine’s Days, quickly came to a halt while his smile fell.
“Aww how sweet,” you smile entering the living room with your eight month old son on your hip. “You like what daddy got you Gia?”
“Yes, but I have a valentine mommy.”
“Ohh...”
“W-Who asked you first?,” he asks trying to hide how hurt he actually was. Not only because he was technically rejected by his own daughter, but the fact that she was really growing up right before his eyes much quicker than he’d like.
“Tommy,” she smiles, softly giggling to herself. “He gave me a heart card.”
“Well the other kids in your class gave you those too right? Because then sweetie that wasn’t him asking to be your Valentine per se, he was just passing out his cards.”
Although it looked like you were simply kissing your baby’s chubby cheek, you were actually trying to hide your laughter at your husbands denial that his little girl had her first crush and Valentine that wasn’t him.
“No daddy, he gave me a ring see?,” she states holding out her hand that held a pink ring pop on her index finger already smaller in size from being in her mouth the entire car ride from school.
If he didn’t think his heart could sink any further today, he was truly mistaken.
“...and you were the only one that got a ring from him?”
“Yep! Ohh I forgot my other baggie,” she announces before running down the hall to her room. Now looking up at you with sad eyes, you can’t help but laugh.
“Babe it’s not funny. She basically just got proposed to.”
“Yea and with a ring bigger than mine,” you add holding your hand out to help him stand as he jokingly glares at you before breaking into a chuckle himself.
“Tommy though? The kid with the snotty nose?”
“Be nice,” you laugh strapping your son into his high chair to eat. “He can’t help it that he has allergies.”
“To what?! Everything and everyone? I honestly don’t think there’s ever been a time I’ve seen him with a clean nose babe,” he replies leaning against the counter across from you. Sliding to stand between his legs, your hands find the back of his neck, softly grazing the small hairs at his nape, before kissing his partially pouted lips.
“Well if it’s any consolation, I’ll be your Valentine,” you sweetly smile batting your lashes and making him chuckle as his lips touch yours again.
“Thank you.”
“And, just to be sure, you know I love my ring.”
“Oh I know. Proof of that is Gia was with us on our honeymoon,” he smirks leaning down to peck your neck. Mouth open and ready with your comeback, Lucas’ hands impatiently banging against the table in front of him bring both your attentions back to your currently hungry boy.
“I’m sorry, I’m coming,” you laugh seeing his gummy smile as you open the small container of brownish orange baby food. “And just so we’re clear, I’m always your Valentine no matter who you may meet okay?”
His short giggle as food dribbles from his mouth is all the understanding you need before shaking his tiny hand, and Chris laughs beside you.
“Okay this is all my candies,” Gia smiles carefully climbing the barstool to sit down and dump the contents of her bag onto the wooden counter. “And this is Tommy’s card.”
“Gia, honey, it’s perfectly fine to have more than one Valentine.”
“Really?”
“Mhmm, like with the three of us. We’ll always be daddy’s Valentine’s. And he can still be one of yours even though Tommy asked you first.”
“That’s good! I made you one too daddy, but the girls at my table said I could only have one which made me a little sad.” Handing him the folded heart cutout covered with glitter, stickers, and most importantly ‘Happy Valentine’s Day Daddy! I love you!’ scribbled across, he visibly beams walking over to hug his little girl.
“I love it Gigi, thank you! Don’t listen to those girls okay? Like mommy said, you’ll always be my Valentine just like I’ll always be yours.”
“Even when I’m a mommy?”
“Yes even when you’re a mommy with your own family,” he smiles kissing the top of her head. “At 75.”

The problem with secret admirers
Holidays usually weren't something the survivors had the luxury of celebrating.
The occasional seasonal decorations in trials along with some ridiculous, thematical outfits seemed more like a sign of their Eldritch captor's morbid sense of humor than evidence of the passing of time. But sadly, lacking calendars and all, it was the most accurate estimate they had.
So when the Entity plopped down some fireworks and talismans on the generators to proclaim the Chinese new year, it barely affected any of them.
Yui and Feng seemed more on edge than usual, the decorations crude imitations of the festivities they were used to back home. Adam had told the group about the year of the ox and the Chinese zodiac, the teacher donning a new hoodie he’d received for the occasion.
For Ace, the holiday meant nothing more than looting as many firecrackers as he could manage, along with making questionable “horny” jokes to the few killers that had received ox-themed outfits.
But in the midst of the survivors' celebration or lack thereof, they'd completely forgotten about another well-known February celebration.
Tumblr media
When Ace returns from a successful trial and goes to stash yet another firecracker into his generous collection of items, he immediately notices something that doesn't belong.
Inside the trunk, on top of the organized chaos that is his pile of items and add-ons, lies a note.
Curiously unfolding the piece of paper, Ace makes out somewhat messy handwriting on a worn piece of paper.
'Your smile lights up the room'.
“Oh, ha ha, very funny,” Ace says, turning to face the small group of survivors by the campfire.
“Huh? What's up?” Steve perks up, others following suit and turning to watch the spectacle.
“Someone left me a little prank note,” Ace says, rolling his eyes and flicking the slip of paper over his shoulder.
“What?” Claudette says with a frown, immediately reaching for the discarded note.
“What does it say?” Cheryl asks curiously, coming up beside the botanist.
“'Your smile lights up the room,'” Claudette reads.
“Aww, that's adorable!” Kate exclaims. “A Valentine's day card!”
“The joke being that we're continually outdoors,” Ace explains. “Meaning my smile does jack shit.”
“Are you sure? Maybe they meant figuratively,” Claudette gently prods.
“Yes Claudy, I'm sure I'm not getting mystery love notes,” Ace snorts at the incredulous suggestion, before turning back to the others. “Come on, whose idea was it? Fess up!” he demands, looking over the group
When nobody makes a move to come clean, others also looking around in confusion, Ace eventually focuses his stare on Nea, Meg and Feng, the trio of troublemakers sitting together by the fire.
“The hell you looking at me for?” Nea cusses.
“That’s lame as fuck,” Meg agrees.
“I'm tempted to make one now just so you’ll see—” Feng starts.
“That's a great idea! We should all make Valentine's day cards for each other!” Kate suggest, missing the gamer's point entirely.
“Look, there's a drawing too!” Cheryl suddenly exclaims, pointing at the back of the mystery note still in Claudette’s hands.
Ace sighs and leans over to look, fully expecting a doodled caricature of himself or even a crude phallic sketch.
Instead, he finds a pretty good drawing of some sort of flower. It’s not perfect, but it looks like someone clearly put a lot of work into it.
“It's a clover,” Claudette informs, glancing up at Ace with a smile. “No doubt for luck, even if it doesn't have the iconic four leaves.”
“Uh. Maybe,” Ace says, a little taken aback at the information. Someone really went through a lot of effort just for a small prank.
“So? Who's it from?” Steve asks impatiently.
“It still doesn’t say, Steve,” Cheryl sighs in irritation.
“I mean, Jeff and Jane are the artists,” Quentin points out.
“Uh-huh, sure, Jeff would draw a flower card for Ace and not his botanist girlfriend,” Meg snorts, making Claudette duck her head bashfully.
“And Jane—" Steve starts, excitedly turning to the former talk show host.
“No,” Jane interrupts the teen. “I mean this in the nicest way possible, but hell no.”
“No offense taken, sweetheart,” Ace grins good-naturedly, the cheesy flirt making the woman grimace.
“What about Bill?” Nea suggests out of the blue.
“What the hell are you on, kid?” Bill snorts, and even Ace has to bite back a laugh over the thought of the gruff veteran writing love letters.
“Just trying to think of someone in his age range!” Nea protests.
“Well, did anyone see anything?” Quentin asks. “We can’t all have been in a trial when the note was placed.”
“I’ve been in like three trials today,” Feng complains.
“I don’t think any of us really keep track of people at the fire,” Kate says. “Anyone could have walked by and put it there.”
“Aww, so we’re not gonna know who it was?” Steve frowns.
“Maybe that’s for the best,” Jane says.
As the commotion seems to die down, Claudette hands back the note back to Ace.
“You should keep it. It seems you have a secret admirer, after all,” Claudette says, smiling.
“Guess it can’t hurt,” Ace says, reluctantly pocketing the card. He’s still not sure it's genuine, but is intrigued by the sudden turn of events nonetheless.
Tumblr media
Surprisingly, it seems the kids aren’t quite ready to give up on finding out the culprit. Some time later, Ace sees Cheryl, Steve and Quentin huddle together by one of the tree stumps, Cheryl looking to be taking notes on a map.
“Did you ask the ones who just got back?” Cheryl asks.
“Yup! Steve says. “Jeff was mostly confused, and David laughed his ass off. Laurie said she hadn't seen anything weird before she got taken to the trial. And Tapp just looked like he'd lost all hope for humanity,” Steve summarizes.
“Sounds about right,” Quentin huffs.
“Okay, so we've ruled out us three, Laurie, Jeff, Claudette, Jane, Bill, Tapp and David,” Cheryl recaps.
“And Nance has Jonathan, and Felix has his girlfriend,” Steve reminds.
“We should definitely rule out Nea too, since she’s way younger than him,” Quentin says. “Meg and Feng too, I guess."
“You're right, they always bully Ace too,” Steve casually remarks.
Ace rolls his eyes behind his shades and keeps shuffling his cards, not understanding why the group is so hell bent on talking about him like he’s not even there.
“Oh, and Yui,” Cheryl says.
“Good point,” Quentin says.
“Huh? Why?” Steve asks, confused.
“She, uh…” Cheryl falters. “Girl talk. I know it's not her.”
“Okay!” Steve beams.
And that pretty much sums up Ace's expectations for their little operation to succeed. If Steve somehow still hasn't figured out that the Japanese woman is solely interested in other women, Ace doesn’t have much trust in his detective work.
“Kate?” Cheryl suggests.
“She’s making Valentine’s cards for all of us as we speak,” Quentin snorts. “I don’t think she’d play favorites.”
“What about Dwight?” Steve suggests.
“Well… it’s definitely awkward and weird enough to fit his MO,” Cheryl considers.
“I thought he was into Jake?” Quentin says.
And that’s about the time Ace tunes out and goes to bug Tapp to play cards with him, hoping the detective will be happy to pretend like this entire thing never happened.
Tumblr media
Ace doesn’t know how long it is before he’s finally taken to a trial, but it feels like an eternity. The atmosphere around camp is awkward as people trickle in and out from trials and someone always feels the need to point out he was on the receiving end of an anonymous person’s affection. The reactions, unsurprisingly, range from awkward confusion to straight up laughter.
So when the fog finally surrounds Ace, he actually welcomes it. The familiar sight of the Autohaven gas station is enough to take his mind off the teasing back at camp, at least momentarily.
But another problem presents itself right as he rounds a corner of scrap and finds Élodie on a generator—
“Hey, come here often?” Ace jokes, crouching down next to the machine to get to work.
—And the woman immediately gets up to leave.
“It wasn’t me, so don’t get any ideas,” Élodie scowls in his direction.
“Huh? I didn’t—” Ace tries to explain, but she’s already taking off in a sprint, and Ace thinks he hears her mutter “creep”.
Ace sighs and barely resists the urge to bash his face against the generator in frustration. This day just keeps getting better.
Tumblr media
To Ace’s utter delight—that is to say, absolute annoyance—his mystery admirer becomes the biggest source of entertainment for the survivors. He doesn’t mind playing along for the first few jabs at his expense, thinking the others will surely get bored after just a few hours.
They don’t.
Most of the group still seem determined to figure out the person behind the note, others are content to gossip and joke about the possibilities, and some go as far as to blame Ace for intentionally stirring up drama. His not-so-subtle suggestions to let it go are shrugged off, and after a few days, Ace resigns himself to his fate and figures the sooner he lets the whole thing sort itself out, the better.
It doesn’t mean he’s happy about it.
To add insult to injury, even the killers seem to have a sudden hard-on for him, focusing Ace with single-minded determination every chance they get.
It's only a few days later, when the Pig kneels down Ace's prone form to place a trap on his head, that he realizes why.
“There you go, lover boy,” the woman's voice sounds mocking despite being muffled by her mask.
“Wah?” Ace asks, the device attached to his jaw making it hard to speak.
“I heard someone has a little admirer,” the Pig says. “I figured it warrants some special treatment.”
The word is accentuated by throwing Ace up on a hook, and the gambler's following scream is as much from pain as it is from frustration.

When Ace gets back to the campfire after having his head popped by the killer’s trap, he sits down on a log furthest from the group, hoping to get a breather—
“Hey, look who it is!” Ash immediately interrupts his moment of solitude, sitting down uninvited next to Ace. “How you doing, champ?” Ash grins, elbowing him in the side.
“What do you want?” Ace asks, feeling much more irritable than usual because of the constant teasing.
“I mean…” Ash says, before looking around and lowering his voice. “Have you figured out who it is?”
Ace rolls his eyes and resists the urge to slap the man with his own prosthetic hand.
“Come on, you can tell me!” Ash grins in a very suspicious way.
“If I find out, you’ll be the first to know. Trust me,” Ace whispers, lying out of his ass.
“That’s what I’m talking about!” Ash laughs, way louder than necessary. “I’m happy for you; at least someone around here will be getting laid!”
Half of the camp erupts into snickers and the other half turns to glare at Ace, notifying him that their conversation was definitely loud enough to overhear.
“Not in front of the children!” Jane sneers, like Ace enjoys having his sex life publicly broadcasted.
“Oh, would you look at that!” Ace quips with fake cheer as fog starts creeping up his legs, thankful for the Entity’s timing even though he barely got back to the campfire. “Time for another trial!”
Tumblr media
When the fog clears from around him, Ace is in the killer shack in Red Forest with Cheryl and Felix right beside him.
“I'm gonna go find Zarina,” Cheryl whispers to Ace, informing him of who their last teammate is.
“Sure,” Ace says, knowing it’s good to split up, as Felix has already started repairs on the generator in the shack—
“I need to privately ask her about the note!” Cheryl beams and is sprinting away before Ace can reply.
Which is just as well, because he might have said a few choice words to the kid through his annoyance. Thankfully, he's left with Felix, one of the few people who have treated Ace normally throughout this entire thing.
“Fuck this,” Ace curses, joining the handsome German on the generator. Felix glances up but doesn't ask, and Ace appreciates being given the space to rant. “This is the worst thing that's ever happened!”
“The note?" Felix asks.
“What else? It seems it's all anyone ever talks about!” Ace rages, throwing one of his hands up in frustration and nearly causing the machine to explode. “I swear, this is worse than middle school,” Ace huffs. “I have girls gossiping, kids pestering and killers bullying me. And for what? A shitty piece of paper!”
Damn, it feels good to get this out. Ace doubts Felix cares, but it's nice to get to vent to someone he knows won't make the situation worse.
“Whoever left the note must be an idiot,” Felix comments bluntly, and it gives Ace pause.
Sure, Ace is frustrated, but he's still a little sentimental over the note and cute gesture behind it. Regardless, he shouldn’t be surprised that the no-nonsense architect would find the notion ridiculous.
“I'm just so done with it,” Ace sighs. “At this point, I'd take any explanation. Even an 'oops, wrong trunk, it was never meant for you'. Sure, I like being in the spotlight, but this is getting unbearable.”
Felix doesn't say anything, only keeps working away; probably embarrassed being forced to discuss Ace's (lack of) love life.
“I—” Felix starts after an awkward silence.
“Shit, I'm sorry,” Ace interrupts with a chuckle, not wanting the German to be any more uncomfortable than he already clearly is. “Didn't mean to talk about ear off about this stuff. Let's get this gen done, huh?”
Felix immediately seems relieved, and Ace jumps at the chance to change topics.
“You ever been to China?” Ace asks, nodding at the firework decoration on top of their generator.
As they chat about one of Felix's business trips to Shanghai, Ace is simultaneously glad for a distraction from his Valentine's fiasco and melancholy about their shallow friendship.
Maybe he'd take this whole thing more seriously if there was any possibility it would actually lead to something with the one person he's even remotely interested in. If Ace was in his prime, he'd probably have made a move on Felix months ago, girlfriend and heterosexuality be damned. Young and reckless Ace wouldn't have cared, happily flirting his ass off.
Meanwhile, old and slightly less reckless Ace has to settle for shitty jokes and sneaking glances at Felix.
When the Ghostface finally makes an appearance during their second generator and proceeds to chase and tunnel Ace to death despite the others' best efforts to save him, Ace isn’t even surprised anymore.
Tumblr media
“I'm starting to wonder if the note is even legit,” Quentin says one day.
“How come?” Kate asks, cocking her head.
“Don't you think Ace's secret admirer would have come clean by now?" Quentin prods.
“Maybe it was just the Entity messing with us?” Laurie suggests.
“If it was a prank from someone, I’m kinda proud of them for pulling it off,” Nea says. “Especially for this long!”
“I think it’s mean,” Claudette says. “They’ve allowed this to go on for way too long. Just look at poor Ace!”
Everyone turns to collectively look at Ace, who is just trying to play some goddamn solitaire in peace while the rest, again, seem content to talk about him like he’s not even there.
“He looks the same as always,” Meg snorts.
“He’s been tunneled to death the last then trials in a row,” Laurie scolds.
“I’m fine,” Ace insists.
“I think his secret fan is just shy!” Kate continues and sparks another debate, oblivious to Ace’s annoyance.
Tumblr media
When Ace gets back from yet another unsuccessful trial and sees a group of gossiping people and a grinning Nea, he groans in exasperation.
Before anyone can bring up Ace’s least favorite subject, Felix butts in.
“Ace,” Felix addresses, coming up beside the group. “Do you have time to teach me that perk you used the other trial? With the longer aura-reading?”
“You want… one of my perks?” Ace asks, surprised.
Felix has always seemed more altruistic than others, and it’s no secret Ace's perks were only used by… Well, Ace.
“Um, yes. If it’s not a bother,” Felix says, discreetly glancing at the group of gossip-hungry survivors waiting to attack Ace’s misery.
And it dawns on Ace that Felix is giving him a distraction to slip away.
“Oh, of course!” Ace grins. “Right this way!”
As soon as they’re out of earshot from the campfire, Ace starts prattling away.
“Thanks for covering for me!” Ace beams. “I thought they’d have gotten bored by now—"
“It was me,” Felix interrupts grimly, making Ace pipe down and turn to look at him.
“Uh… come again?” Ace asks, confused.
“I did it. I wrote the note,” Felix confesses, looking at Ace in determination.
“What? Why?” Ace asks, incredulous. When Felix's bravado falters, he keeps going. “Look, you don't have to cover for whoever it was,” Ace sighs. “I don’t blame you for wanting this entire thing to be over—"
“I'm serious,” Felix says. “I've been lying for way too long. I should have come clean before, but I was too much of a coward.”
Alright, what the actual fuck? Why would Felix, of all people, have sent Ace a love note?
While he’s gaping stupidly, Felix continues:
“Claudette was right, it’s my fault for letting this go on for so long. I’m sorry.”
“But… your girlfriend—” Ace starts, struggling to wrap his head around the whole thing.
“Will hopefully move on once she realizes I'm not coming back,” Felix says. “I've started to accept that I'm not getting out of here.”
“Well, that sounds cheerful,” Ace comments.
“Sheiße, I didn't mean it like that,” Felix winces. “I just… thought I'd do things differently this time. Since I never had the courage to, in my old life.”
“So… where do I come into the picture?” Ace asks, skeptical.
“I…” Felix says, wringing his hands in a nervous gesture. “Wanted to see how you would react to the note. It was stupid.”
“Huh? How come?”
“I caused you nothing but harm,” Felix sighs. “First you thought I was mocking you, then the others kept bothering you, and even the killers were giving you a hard time. I'm sorry, I should never have done it.”
“No, I mean—” Ace flounders for an explanation. Sure, he'd been annoyed, but none of the things that happened were Felix’s fault. “Why give something like that to me?”
“Isn't it obvious?” Felix says, scratching at his neck while averting his eyes. “I admit I haven't celebrated Valentine's day much, but I assumed…” he trails off.
What? Felix was seriously trying to test the waters of… getting together with Ace?
It slowly starts to make sense. Felix’s strange behavior. The messy handwriting on the note, probably from Felix’s nerves. The surprising artistic talent of the sketch, after a lifetime of architectural drawings.
“Well, this is unexpected,” Ace says with a smirk, not able to keep the cockiness from seeping into his voice at the knowledge that Felix, somehow, seems to be interested in him.
“Sorry—”
“I said unexpected, not unwelcome,” Ace interrupts.
And then gets to watch the realization slowly dawn on Felix, the perpetual worried frown on the other’s face smoothing out as his eyes widen in hope.
“You don't mind?” Felix asks.
“Let's just say I'm surprised you haven't caught me looking,” Ace grins. “I never expected someone as handsome as you to return the attention,” he can't resist flirting.
“Ähm, well, I…” Felix flusters from the compliment, looking at the ground. “Am not very good at this.”
“I wouldn’t say that,” Ace says.
Then, he reaches into his breast pocket, pulling out the infamous note he’s kept on him this entire time. Felix’s gaze follows his movement as Ace carefully unfolds the paper, crumpled and smudged from having been with him trial after trial.
“I thought you threw it away,” Felix says quietly, eyes wide in awe.
“You don’t just throw away a good luck charm,” Ace chastises playfully, pointedly brushing his thumb over the clover drawing. “Especially not one that’s the nicest thing anyone’s done for me in a long time.”
Ace bites his tongue to stop prevent more mushy sentiments from slipping out. Felix is still staring way too intently and not saying a word, so Ace clears his throat self-consciously tucks the note safely back into his pocket.
“I can’t believe you kept it,” Felix finally says, an adorable smile on his lips as he meets Ace’s eyes.
“Well, seeing as we’ve now established that we’re both sentimental saps…” Ace starts with a smirk, stepping closer to Felix to test the waters. “I have a question.”
“Oh, umh… Yes?” Felix says, straightening his back but still seeming nervous.
It's adorable, and Ace wants to kick himself for not noticing anything sooner. Still, there's no time like the present.
“Be my valentine?” Ace asks with a grin.
Felix's posture instantly relaxes, and the smile is back on his face.
“I'd love to,” Felix says.
Ace’s grin widens until he feels like it’ll be permanently etched onto his face. This is a much better outcome than he ever expected when he found an unassuming note with his items.
“So, ehm…” Felix starts after they’ve been staring at each other for a beat too long, snapping Ace out of it. “Do you… should we…?” Felix falters, nervously brushing a stray lock from his face.
“Wanna find a place to sit down and chat?” Ace suggests, not feeling any need to rush things now that he knows where they stand with each other. “I don’t know about you, but I could use a break from the others.”
“Me too,” Felix says, seeming relieved. “I admit I’m not looking forward to what the others will say about this.”
“Fuck em!” Ace says. “They’ve had their fun, I’m not gonna let them put you through the same shit as they did me. We don’t even have to tell them.”
“No, I want to,” Felix insists. “If I have to hear one more rude joke about you from Feng…” Felix’s mouth pinches into a thin line.
“Aww, babe,” Ace teases, the pet name slipping out before he can stop it. “You don’t have to defend my honor.”
“I do, and I will,” Felix says with surprising determination.
“Well, in that case, I won’t stop you,” Ace grins.
“Good,” Felix says with a smug little smirk.
And the sudden assertiveness makes heat creep up Ace’s neck, quickly starting to regret his suggestion to take things slow.
“I, uh, I think I saw a pretty cozy clearing not far from here,” Ace says, eager to get the chance to get to know more about his companion.
“Lead the way,” Felix agrees.
Tumblr media
They end up sitting next to each other under the stars and talking for what has to be hours, but goes by in the blink of an eye. No longer having to filter himself and keep their conversation casual is a much-needed break from the past few days, and the smile never once leaves Ace’s face.
Talking to Felix makes the feelings Ace has tried so hard to ignore come back full force, reminding him of why the man caught his eye in the first place. Sure, Felix is still more attractive than anyone has the right to be, but he’s also insanely smart and surprisingly witty past the initial anxious exterior. The way he smiles and gives his undivided attention even when Ace talks about silly, insignificant things not only makes Ace forget all about his recent frustrations, but also takes his mind away from the strange world surrounding them.
And when Felix eventually scoots even closer and looks at Ace with nothing but fondness in his eyes, Ace has no trouble throwing his initial hesitance out of the window and going in for a kiss.
It’s not earth-shattering or particularly intense, it’s just really, really nice and makes Ace’s heart do stupid leaps in his chest. It’s been so long since he even kissed anyone, and getting to smooch the person he’s been secretly pining over for months and have said person eagerly return the kiss?
“Why the hell haven’t we done this sooner?” Ace voices his thought when he pulls away from the gentle kiss, making Felix huff a quiet laugh into their shared breathing space.
“I should have just signed the note,” Felix says.
“Good thing you can make it up to me now, Valentine,” Ace grins.
Felix chuckles warmly and a callused hand comes up to gently cup Ace’s cheek before tilting his head up into another kiss.
And even though Ace isn’t normally one for holiday celebrations, he’s looking forward to spending many more with Felix by his side.

I’ve been wanting to read some of your WinterIron fics after seeing all of your new updates, but the ship feels a bit off balance to me after everything that happened in the MCU. I was wondering if you’d like to share what you like most about the ship, as well as what backgrounds you usually give Tony and Bucky in them (I have a feeling yours are better than “he killed my parents and my friends chose him over me”). Thanks and congrats on starting your new blog! 💕
Ooooh WINTERIRON! It’s basically my favorite thing ever when people ask me why I love a ship/background info so buckle up, cos this will be a long post complete with links to all my best Winterirons and reasons why it’s fun.
The thing I like the best about Winteriron is that Tony and Bucky have so.much.in.common.
Shared trauma by way of non consensual body modification (WS and of course, the arc reactor). PTSD. Body image issues and probably at times crippling dysphoria. Panic attacks and anxiety. Repeating the question “am I who they made me to be, or am I actually me” and then “who am I, exactly” because both have gone through life altering horrifying events completely out of their control. Phoenix metaphors-- Tony in Afghanistan and Bucky as the WS/fighting free of the WS. A shared interest in science (see Bucky’s dorky face at the Expo as well as how he feels about Wakanda in IW). A wish against a battle but always ready to suit up. Top of their game in their own right (Tony with tech and Bucky as a sniper and Cap’s right hand man) and then even better after their trauma. Both struggling to find their place in a world they no longer recognize, Bucky as post WS and Tony after he’s confronted with the truth of Obadiah/Stark Industries. Shared trauma by way of “bucky is a victim forced to do terrible things, Tony is a victim of the terrible things Bucky was forced to do”.
So much in common.
When I get to write them, it’s not about who saves who like it is with most of my Stony where yes, Tony is bad ass but it’s still Steve who swoops in and saves Tony’s heart and emotions and sometimes also his actual life. With Winteriron they are both broken and both trying to get better one step at a time and I love that so much. I love soft soft nekkid times where neither has to be ashamed of the damage on their body or if their body doesn’t quite work the way they want it to, I love them finding each other after nightmares, or Bucky getting too rough with Tony and apologizing and Tony knowing Bucky would never ever hurt him.
As far as the background I usually give them...it varies from fic to fic and verse to verse but there always is lots of themes of body positivity and acceptance mixed in with quite a bit of flirting even in the more serious verses because at some point I decided Bucky was a flirty mc flirt and that’s just all there is to it.
Some #NCTS-verse Winteriron Standards:
Bucky calls Tony “sweet thing”. Signature phrase “sure thing, sweet thing” and it is in every single one of my full length Winteriron/Stuckony fics, and usually shows up in most of my short ones as well. I make the rules, and the rules include “sweet thing”
Tony loves loves Bucky’s arms and shoulders and the way he walks all murdery.
“Bucky-bear” and “Brooklyn” are Tony’s nicknames for Bucky ie: “come home again Brooklyn” and “Aww Bucky-bear, its’ okay I’m rich, I’ll buy another one”
Bucky likes Tony’s fluffy hair and Dat Badonkadonk but also SIZE DIFFERENCE because I prefer my Winteriron to be TolSmol and also kaakjsdhkasjhdsmuscles
I realize nowhere does canon Bucky talk with a ridiculously Brooklyn accent buttttt in my (funnier) fics, he 100% does. Also aware that how I write him talking probably isn’t Brooklyn at all, but that’s just how we do it on #NCTS.
Also, you will notice a reference to Bucky “Bronco” Barnes and his tag line “You wanna know why they call me the Bronco? Cos I’ll give you the ride of your life” and this is something that happened actually in a Stony story where he was only around for like one chapter, but my readers loved the wilder, flirtier, sort of stupidly hot and also insanely dangerous version of Bucky so it stuck around. You find “Bronco” Bucky in my non powers, lighter hearted fics and quite a bit in my Stuckony fics.
Steve is always 100% pro winteriron because he’s 100% pro Bucky being happy and even in the very few fics where he and Tony aren’t also best friends, Steve has never tried to actively break them up or warn Bucky away. Uh uh. Not in my house. If anything, he is basically oblivious to Tony or in my few post CACW fics, Tony isn’t Steve’s favorite person but he still comes around to Winteriron being together.
I write very little canon verse winteriron that deals with WS and Tony’s parents. If it’s mentioned at all in fics, it comes with the obligatory apology and forgiveness scene and then they move on. We all cry at that part in the movie, no need to bring it up over and over in fics.
Let’s get into the stories! Here are some that are sure to not only ease you into my version of Winteriron, but also to slay you with some fluff and some feels.
Cookie Day: Bucky shares his cookies with no one but Tony. Plotless and fun
Bad Days: Even the WS wants to keep Tony safe
Ducks in a Row: Possibly the cutest shit I’ve ever written in my life ever.
Professional Cuddles: Tony is lonely, Bucky has hugs, this was a 3am prompt fill and it turned out GREAT.
Not Yet: A little spooky but maybe one of my fave short stories
Murder Floof: Tony brings home a grumpy kitten for Bucky.
Sure Thing, Sweet Thing: the origin story for the infamous phrase.
And I have to add this one for nostalgia’s sake...
Letters to Bucky: My very first Winteriron and honestly, so good. Non powered AU with a little canon mixed in. Epistolary style so they fall in love over letters before meeting. Top tier art by @latelierderiot which kickstarted our friendship and I love her so much.
And if you are really up for a challenge, I rewrote the entire Captain America trilogy as a Tony-centric Time Travel shenanigan and it details Tony going back to the 1940s and meeting/falling in love with Bucky Barnes, returning to present day and trying to reconcile things with Steve Rogers, then both of them finding out about WS Bucky and working to bring him home, and you can read all that HERE.
I’ve got lots more Winteriron on my MASTERLIST and if you check out the themed masterlists like  CHRISTMAS and VALENTINES DAY  there are some pretty great fics on there too!
I hope you get as hooked on this ship as I am.
Cheers!

Fade Into Light
Tumblr media
Title: Fade Into Light
Rating: T
Pairing: Kylo Ren/Ben Solo x Reader
Summary: Kylo Ren has been out of your reach for so long now, but its surprising how being forced into battle somehow brings you closer to Ben Solo.
Word count: 2693
Warnings: Angst. Violence, non-graphic mentions of blood.
Notes: Written for @fanfiction-trashpile for @kylosupremeimagines Valentine’s Day Fic Exchange. I hope you like it! Happy Valentine's day
Although you used the Force to deaden the sound of your boots, the man you were attempting to sneak up on turned around quickly. His red lightsaber easily sliced through your vibrosword and set you off balance.
“Where is your lightsaber?”
His voice was so different when he wore that helmet. The distortion fit his new armor well, but your ears did miss his natural voice.
“I didn’t...I didn’t want to hurt you.”
“Hurt me? Ha.”
You winced.
He pointed his saber at you, ready to strike but holding still. “Draw your weapon.”
“Ben. I just-”
“Kylo! I’ve told you. It’s Kylo Ren now.”
You frowned as you stared into that mask, wishing you could see his warm eyes instead of the cold chrome. “Not to me, you’re still Ben. You’re still my best friend.”
“Then you are a fool. Like you’ve always been.”
His saber hummed as he swung, forcing you to drop to your back and draw your own saber, red and green flashing to muddy colors as you blocked his attack. Your vision blurred slightly as the heat from the two blades got closer to your face. You had no choice but to fight back.
You pushed with all your strength, with a considerable amount of the Force behind your push, and still only managed to push him off just long enough for you to roll back to your feet. Ben Kylo Ren was a strong man and master swordsman. Back when he was still training at the temple, he even made Master Skywalker sweat. You, on the other hand, were good, but not that good.
It wasn’t long before he had your back to a wall, literally. The old temple was crumbling and the stone digging into your back only served as a reminder that he was toying with you. Instead of panic flooding your senses however, a flash of mischief overcame you. You could only hope that Ben was still alive inside of Kylo Ren.
You disengaged your blade, ducking down and side stepping as he stumbled into the wall from the sudden lack of resistance. He spun quickly but was met with the tip of your saber now at his neck.
“Cheap tricks won’t save you.”
“Cheap? You were the one who taught that move to me.”
He was silent and you just knew that underneath his mask he was pursing his lips together in frustration. The cheeky grin on your face quickly dropped when you sensed others approaching. You turned on your heel, your saber in a defensive position.
You felt the air move around you, heard the swish of his cloak, and felt warmth radiating off of him as he moved into a defensive stance next to you. It almost reminded you of training with Ben Solo. Almost.
The first sniped shot was deflected by Kylo’s saber, the action forcing him even closer to you so that you could feel the massive bulk of his back against yours. You deflected the next shot and soon the two of you were working in a defensive sync, blocking blaster fire before either of you could get hurt.
“My shuttle is a couple klicks west of here.” You offered first, knowing your best chance to get out of this ambush was with his help.
He stepped further into your space, blocking you from further attacks until you reached the cover of the tree line. He didn’t need you to cover him as he took two giant leaps from the crumbling temple into the forest. Nor did you wait for him to ask you to lead the way, as soon as he was clear of the fire you started running in the direction of your shuttle.
“If they aren’t with you?”
He shrugged, and it looked oddly exaggerated in his new heavy armor. “Treasure hunters, probably.”
“They’re not gonna find anything. I spent two days in that temple with nothing to show for it.”
You stopped running, throwing your back against a tree as you reached out with the Force to see if you were being followed. You looked to your left, Kylo also had his back against a tree but he was looking at you, or past you, it was hard to tell with that stupid mask of his.
“What were you looking for in the ruins?”
“What?”
“You heard me.”
“Uhmm…” What were you going to tell him? That you heard the First Order was suddenly interested in the ruins of Jedi temples and you were determined to make sure that they didn’t find anything useful? Yea. That wouldn’t end well for you at all.
“What were-”
“You gotta keep up if you wanna make it to my shuttle!”
“Keep up?!”
Even with the voice modulator in his helmet, you could hear the skepticism in his voice. Not that you could blame him. In just the short amount of time since he began to train under a new master, he was so much stronger since last you saw him. He could very easily claim the rank of a Jedi Knight if the New Jedi Order hadn’t been-
You were so caught up in your thoughts that you nearly ran out into the open the second you saw your shuttle. The only thing that saved you from that fatal mistake was a sudden pull on the back of your shirt. You let out a strangled grunt as you stumbled backwards into Kylo’s chest.
You looked up with a glare at him but before you could say anything, he clamped a cold gloved hand over your mouth. You were about to fight him, struggle and protest, when movement ahead of you caught your attention. Two people, both so armored that their features were obscured, were walking off your shuttle carrying a crate of supplies between them.
You pulled Kylo’s hand down as you realized there were more mercenaries around your shuttle, some breaking it down, some scavagining your supplies, and some on guard.
“Aww, my shuttle. Do you know how long it took me to get the credits to buy it?”
He didn’t answer you, but let you stare at your shuttle for a little while more. With one arm wrapped around your waist, and with you still holding onto the hand he initially had covering your mouth, it almost felt like he was trying to comfort you. It was odd to say the least. This was the kind of gesture you’d expect from Ben Solo, but Kylo Ren? The man who was just trying to kill you? And yet, you couldn’t deny that you felt, of all things, safe.
“Come, we can use my ship.”
Though he said this, he didn’t let go of you quite yet. And you didn’t pull away. You wanted to relax in his arms, like-
He moved first and you felt a familiar pang in your heart as you turned to see Ben Solo walking away from you all over again. You shook your head, that man clad in all black wasn’t walking away from you, he was leading you. Kylo Ren, Ben Solo, whatever he called himself, he was still your friend. He just needed to remember.
It didn’t take long to reach his ship since it wasn’t parked very far at all. Which meant that you didn’t have to travel far to reach it, and neither did the mercs.
“Hey, why aren’t they stripping your ship? They didn’t waste any time breaking into mine!”
“They seem to be smart enough not to mess with the First Order.”
You rolled your eyes at his tone as you counted the guards standing around the custom TIE fighter, which you promptly forgot as you realized something else.
“Wait a minute. A TIE? Does it have a gunner seat? I can’t tell from here…”
“No.”
“No? No? What are we supposed to do? Squeeze in together?”
“We’ve been in tighter spots before.”
“Yea, before you hit your growth spurt and turned into a giant!”
“I can always leave you here.”
“Fat chance!”
“Then less arguing and more killing.”
There was no more arguing with him as he strode out of the cover of the forest and into the open zone. A few of the mercs pointed their rifles at him and started yelling at him to stop. He didn’t. They opened fire, he ignited his lightsaber and began to make quick work of them.
You were almost tempted to let him do all the work, but seeing the mercenaries call in backup, most likely those who had been working on your shuttle, changed your mind. You didn’t quite walk out into the open like him however. Instead you remained under cover and used your blaster to pick off the incoming mercenaries from a distance.
It worked well, keeping the number of people that Kylo had to fight to a minimum and keeping you in a safe spot. Until you felt a sharp burning sensation hit your side. You swallowed a pained yell and rolled out of your hiding spot. You risked a glance back to see two mercs chasing you and cursed under your breath.
“Ah, Ben! Incoming!”
He turned, his cloak swirling around him, with an outstretched hand as he used to the Force. You turned and couldn’t swallow the scream this time. There, just a few inches from your face was a blaster shot hovering in the air.
Acting quickly, you pulled out your lightsaber and used it to hit the blaster fire back at the mercenary who shot at you. It was easy to hit it back to him too, as both men were shocked to see the Force used in such a manner. Even you were shocked, but you knew better than to just stand around and stare in amazement.
The impact of the return shot knocked both men back and gave you the time to catch up to Kylo.
“How many times must I save you?”
“You wouldn’t do it if you didn’t love me.”
You could practically see him rolling his eyes behind that mask of his, especially with the little shake of his head he gave. “Let’s go before more come.”
Now that the fight was over and your adrenaline levels were falling, you were starting to feel the pain of the wound on your side. You did your best to ignore, you would have to wait until you were somewhere safe to attend to your wound.
You jumped into the TIE after him, landing awkwardly on his lap, and had to bite back a hiss of pain. Your landing was none to gentle on him too, he grunted and had to immediately catch you and adjust the both of you in the single person seat. One of your legs dangled next to his while the other was stretched out across his lap. It was a tight fit but he managed to get his arms around you enough that he could still pilot effectively.
“Tired? Instead of chasing me around the galaxy, you should concentrate on your training.”
You coughed out a laugh, “I was here first.”
He chuckled, or at least you assumed that's what that noise from his helmet was, as he ignited the engines and started the ascent. He mumbled something about auto pilot once he broke atmo but you were starting to feel sleepy. Your head dropped on his shoulder and you moved even closer to him. “You’re so warm.” You whispered as your eyes drooped.
Kylo was content on ignoring your odd comment, writing it off as exhaustion, but shifted to get a better look at you when he felt something wet seep through his sleeves.
“Did you somehow find the one puddle on that planet and fall in it?”
He tried to quip, but when you didn’t answer he took off his helmet and took another look at his hand that was pressed into your side. It took a moment but he realized that the liquid coating his glove was not water.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were hit?!”
You jumped at his sudden outburst and held back a cough. “Oh. It’s not that bad.”
“We need to get you help. Where’s the nearest Resistance base?”
“Don’t know. I don’t work for them.”
“You don’t?”
“No. I just. I just wanted you back.”
He stared at you until you closed your eyes again.
“Hey, no. Stay awake. Need to stop the bleeding.”
The last part he muttered to himself, but you tried to focus on his words anyways, just to stay awake.
He shifted again, apologizing when you let out a pained whimper, and managed to tear a decent sized piece of cloth from his cloak. As carefully as he could, he wrapped it around your waist, tying it tightly in hopes to staunch the blood flow.
“I’m taking you to the Supremacy.”
You hummed in acknowledgment, though the named ship meant nothing to you. Every so often he’d say something, mostly your name, just to make sure you were still alive. You obliged him every time, with a grunt or a hum, occasionally you’d say his name. Ben. He never corrected you.
Eventually you lost consciousness.
When you came to again you were on a medical table, an unresponsive med droid sat in the corner of the white room. You didn’t have the strength to sit up, even if you did, you wouldn’t have been able to. Your wrists and ankles were tied down to the table.
Ah. So Kylo Ren did end up taking you back to the First Order. If they were hoping for information on the Resistance, they were going to be disappointed. You were telling the truth when you said you didn’t work for them.
Whatever. Kylo Ren, and his new master, could easily find this out through use of the Force. You just wanted to get your hands free. Your side, where you’d been shot, was still hurting. Not as much, but clearly you needed to wake that med droid again.
You reached out with the Force, attempting to find Ben/Kylo, what you found instead made you retreat back so quickly the sensation was almost physical.
Evil. Pure evil. You’d never sensed anything like it before. It wasn’t Kylo Ren. It had to be his new master, Snoke.
What scared you was the intention you sensed. Death. Your death. What scared you the most, however, wasn’t that Snoke intended to kill you. That you could have guessed. It was that the intention was shared. Kylo Ren was determined to kill you to further throw himself into the dark side of the Force.
No. He couldn’t. He didn’t want that. If he wanted you dead he could have just left you on that planet alone to die. He wouldn’t have brought you back to his ship and given you enough treatment to make sure you would live. Why waste resources like that? Why make the effort to save you if he was just going to kill you?
In your panic you reached out to Ben again, hoping that he would help you. That’s when you sensed his indecision. The side of him that was Ben Solo wanted to save you. The side of him that was Kylo Ren wanted to kill you. It was like seeing two sides of a coin. The tear in his will was growing. And you knew-
The doors to the med bay hissed open and the slow cadence of boots echoed in the room. You tried to look up to see who it was but you could only lift your head enough to see black. He still had no cloak. Your eyes traveled up to his armor. If you looked closely you could see the blood stains from your wounds. If you looked even closer you could see that the armor was torn, and some of the blood stains were fresh.
And you knew, if you looked higher and saw the familiar face of your friend, you had a chance to escape. But if you saw the mask of Kylo Ren, you were good as dead.
And you knew.

Kei is having a crisis. And no, he’s not even exaggerating.
He often scoffed at the idea of couples surprising each other by giving gifts whenever they feel like it, to celebrate their monthsary or an anniversary over silly things such as when they first held hands or when they first walked home together. The only thing he could understand when it matters and would actually tolerate, is when it’s for Valentine’s Day, or a birthday, or during the Christmas season. But even then, he would wince and cringe at the lengths some people would go to and the amount they would spend for their significant other, and he always make it a point to remind himself to never become like them and not fall for such follies.
Of course, that would mean, at some point, he’s bound to swallow his words even if it feels like pins and needles on his throat and a deep blow on his pride. He just didn’t think it would be this soon.
Not only does he find himself not-single anymore, he is also without an ounce of idea about what to give his boyfriend for his birthday.
Kei scratches his head, nails digging in his scalp and he probably pulled some baby hair off, out of frustration, clicking his tongue while glaring at the small desk calendar, a particular date circled many times over in red ink.
He only has a week until Kageyama’s birthday and he’s yet to have a present for him.
To be fair, he’d already thought of options. Like volleyball gears and athletic wear, things he knows Kageyama will like and use. He’s a practical gift giver, after all. But then again, those are kinds of things that anybody could give him, if they’re willing to spend a little money on him (which, in his knowledge they are, as annoying as that is). But anyway, its Kageyama’s first birthday that they will spend together as a couple. And he really didn’t see himself saying something like this, but he wants it to be, well, special.
Like, really special.
They officially got together on the night of his birthday after all, so he’s already got the best gift he could have hoped for, even though it happened because of the traitor he calls his best friend’s meddling.
But yeah, it maybe his competitive streak or the small, gradually growing, sappy part of him that screams ‘Must take good care of Kageyama! Must not lose him!’ that’s talking, but he really, utterly, wants this to be special; needs it to be special.
And hence, the crisis. Because, how will he top that? (He doesn’t think he can. The happiness he felt that night was so unbearable, after all. He still finds himself blushing and smiling unconsciously whenever he remembers it.) He shakes his head to dispel the thought. It won’t do to pressure himself.
He closes his eyes, breathes deeply and relaxes his shoulders. When he opens them, his mind is clearer. Obviously, he can’t do this alone, he’ll just run himself in circles. Pulling his phone from his sweatpants, he scrolls through his contacts and messages Yachi about needing her help and if he can call her. He didn’t wait for too long for a response, as his phone rings as soon as the message was sent.
“Hello-”
“Tsukishima-kun? What happened? Are you alright?”
“Ya-”
“Oh my god, are you hurt? Bleeding anywhere? Should I call the police-”
“Yach-”
“You’re not bleeding in an alley, are you? Gods, please don’t die, Tsukishima-kun.”
“Yachi!” He exclaims, effectively stopping the nervous tirade coming from the other line. “No. I’m not hurt. Not in an alley. Not bleeding. Not dying.” At least, not in a literal way, he adds mentally. “So please stop worrying, okay. I’m. Fine.”
Yachi breathes in relief. “Oh, thank gods. I thought-”
“I know.” Kei interrupts her. Realizing he sounded snappy, he repeated it softly. It wouldn’t do well for him to snap at the only someone he can ask help from.
“I’m sorry. It’s just you usually communicate everything through text, so when you asked to call I thought… yeah, never mind. Anyway, you said you need help?”
Kei inhales deeply. “Yes, I do. I was wondering if you’re free today. I need help in finding a birthday gift for Kageyama.”
There’s a pause on the other line. “Uhm, no offense, Tsukishima-kun, but shouldn’t you be asking Shouyou-san? Not that I don’t want to help you. I would love to, but Shouyou-san knows him more, probably?”
“I already did. And not surprisingly, he’s of no help at all. Some best friend he is.”
“Erm, why not Tadashi-san?” Kei grumbles something under his breath as a reply.
“Pardon? What was that?”
Kei sighs. “I want it to be a surprise,” he repeats louder and a little exasperated. He explains that he doesn’t want to ask Yamaguchi for help, because he knows he won’t be able to keep it a secret. That and he doesn’t think he can handle Yamaguchi’s teasing, he tacks on mentally.
“Oh. Oh. I see. Oh, that’s so sweet.” She gushed, and Kei can almost see her smile. His face flushed and heated even more.
“Of course, Tsukishima-kun! I would love to help you!”
He ends the call after confirming the time and place for their meet-up and breathes in relief. Hopefully, he’ll find and get a perfect gift for Kageyama.
-----
After almost half a day of roaming the market district, they’re now resting in a café, drinking iced coffee, Kei’s treat for Yachi as gratitude for accompanying him. The nice, small paper bag with the logo of the seventh store they visited sits quietly and unobtrusively on the side of the table.
Kei settled for a sports watch, a bit pricey, but durable and high quality, which was highly recommended by the shop clerk and one that fits Kei’s standards of usable, not something anyone can give, and meaningful.
But even then, Kei can’t help but think that there’s still something missing.
“Is there something wrong, Tsukishima-kun?” Yachi asks, looking up at him with worry.
Kei bites his lips. “Nothing…” he starts hesitantly. “But I just feel like this isn’t enough.” He frowns, shoulders slumping.
“Why do you think that?”
“You know how my birthday went,” Kei says, and Yachi smiles at him knowingly.
He gestures to the bag with his head. “Buying something doesn’t feel… personal enough.” It was hard to get out, because he’s not used to admitting his feelings or baring his thoughts, but it seems a lot of that is changing when it concerns Kageyama.
Yachi purses her lips over the straw of her drink to stop herself from squealing, keeping it internally, because boy, who knew Tsukishima-kun would be so whipped for Kageyama-kun. She takes a sip, keeping herself together. Her friend needs her right now and she can’t let him down. She rest her chin on her hand as she hums, wracking her brain for ideas until one came to her.
“I think I have something.” She pulls out her phone and looked for it and shows it to him.
“It’s a pretty generic idea, and a lot of couples have done it before, but if you design your own and include the things that only the two of you can do, then that makes it more personal, don’t you think?”
Kei looks through the images and thinks about Yachi’s words. But the girl seemed to have taken his silence the wrong way. “But I mean, you don’t have to, if you don’t want to. It’s just a suggestion. I can look up for more if you want-”
“Yachi,” he interrupts, “this is perfect.”
Yachi smiles. “Okay. Alright. Do you need help? I can draw if you like.”
Kei shakes his head. “I’ll do this one myself. Thank you, Yachi.”
“You’re most certainly welcome, Tsukishima-kun.” Yachi doesn’t bother suppressing her gushing this time. “Oh, Kageyama-kun is so lucky!”
-----
Akiteru finds Kei pacing inside his room.
Kei’s been feeling nervous since he woke up on the auspicious day. He can’t seem to stay still, he keeps on taking the gift bag from the shelf, and putting it back again, rearranging his T-rex figurine around it, making it look as if it’s protecting the present, only to take it down again to place on his desk beside a smaller, rectangular box where the fruit of his effort for at least three nights is safely tucked inside.
“Yo, bro,” he knocks on the open door. “You’re going to burn a hole in your carpet if you keep on doing that.”
“Not now, nii-chan,” Kei distractedly replies back, still pacing.
“What’s got you so worked up anyway? It’s just his birthday and you’re just going to give him his gift and spend the day with him, being all lovey-dovey.”
“Nii-chan,” he clicks his tongue.
“With the way you’re acting really nervous, I would think that you’re already planning to propose to him. Or plan to do something more.”
Kei stops then and sputters at Akiteru, red in the face. “Wh-what? Of course not!”
Akiteru grins widely at the adorable display of vehemence. “Really? The ones inside the box are not actually con-”
Kei’s hand is quick to cover his mouth and push him out his room.
“The hell, nii-chan? What kind of brother asks that?!”
Akiteru snickers before getting Kei’s hand off his face. “A loving and supportive one.”
When Kei scratches his head with more force than necessary, Akiteru let up. “Alright, I’ll stop. You must really like Kageyama, huh?”
Kei doesn’t reply, but the way he flushed up to the tips of his ears and the way he can’t meet Akiteru’s eyes is enough answer for him. Even then, Kei surprised him by nodding. Aww man, his adorable little brother in love is such a sight he never thought he would see, but he’s damn glad he did.
“It would be fine, Kei. I mean, I’ve only seen you two together once, when you brought him here for dinner, and I can tell that he also likes you and your prickly butt.”
Kei huffs and glares at him and Akiteru puts his hands up in surrender. “Okay, okay… I will leave you now.” He starts to walk back to his room, but then stops and turns as if remembering something.
“Oh, and Kei,” Kei looks at him warily, but waits all the same.
Akiteru grins. “Don’t forget to use protection,” he says with a wink and dashes to his room, dodging the pen that Kei chucked at him.
Inside his room, Akiteru hears the muffled sound of door slamming and he snickers as he takes out his phone to send a message.
All according to keikaku, my disciple.
Hah! You’re the best, Akiteru-san!
It’s going to be my turn later. ;)

As much as Kei wants to have Kageyama all to himself for the day, he can’t. Their friends insisted that they all celebrate Kageyama’s birthday together. It’s become their tradition to eat together whenever someone’s celebrating their birthday, after all. Which meant that he had to endure Yamaguchi’s teasing and Hinata’s boisterousness throughout lunch. Yachi had been there to stop Kei from committing murder, while Kageyama is just enjoying the food and the cake they bought for him, looking every inch the King that he is, being entertained by his jesters.
Thankfully, it’s over now. It’s just the two of them after Yamaguchi not-so-subtlety told everyone that the ‘lovebirds probably want to have some time alone, wink wink’ and had the gall to remind him to ‘get it, Tsukki! But be sure to save some for Christmas, alright’.
Fortunately, the King is oblivious to the obvious innuendo, but not Hinata who was still cackling as he left and Yachi who almost ran into a post because she’s covering her face in embarrassment.
The thought of the suggestion turns his face in the same predicament and this one, Kageyama noticed.
“Are you alright? Your face is red.” Kageyama says, tugging at the hand he’s holding, the other carrying a large paper bag containing all of the gifts he got from them, including the one Kei bought.
The other, more personal one is still inside his coat pocket, waiting to be given when they’re in the privacy of Kageyama’s home.
“It’s the cold, King.” He replies dismissingly. He would’ve gestured too, but he’s carrying the cake box with his unoccupied hand.
“If you say so.”
They arrive without much incident, and even though it was a ruse earlier, Kei is glad to be out of the cold. And once they stripped off their coats and scarves, they find themselves warming up in the well heated living room, watching a movie they happened to pass by while browsing the channels.
Kageyama’s snuggled up to him, head resting on his shoulder while his arms are around Keis, a perfect picture of contentment. Now would be the perfect time for Kei to give his other gift, but he left it in his coat pocket, and he had to get up to get it, but right now, he doesn’t want to leave Kageyama yet.
“Do you want some snack? You still have some cake left,” he murmurs on Kageyama’s ear, delighted at the way the action made the boy shiver against him.
Kageyama hums. “Yeah. I’ll get it,” he says, disentangling himself from Kei.
Well, so much for not wanting to leave him, Kei thought, shaking his head with a small smile. But he might as well use it as opportunity to go retrieve his gift.
When he returns, Kageyama’s back on the couch, the leftover cake is on the coffee table and Kageyama’s putting a slice on one of the two plates beside the box.
Kei’s heart warmed at the domesticity of it all. He never would have imagined he would be like this, with Kageyama of all people, but he can’t find it in himself to regret or even wonder how this happened. What he’s always left with, though, is fondness and gratitude that things worked out between them, because he can’t imagine them be anything else but close and happy and together, anymore. It’s too early to say, and he’s probably jinxing it, but he’s never been surer of anything else.
That’s why he wants to make this special. It’s their first, and he’s looking forward to more firsts with Kageyama, and if he has any say it in, he wants it to last. He wants them to last.
He takes a deep breath and walks back to the couch but instead of sitting beside his boyfriend, he bends down and hugs him from behind. Kageyama flinches a little in surprise but soon relaxes when he realizes that it’s Kei and puts a hand over the arm around him, looking at the small, rectangular box Kei is presenting in front of him.
“What’s this?” He asks, craning his head to look at Kei.
“It’s your gift.”
“…But you already gave me one.”
“I know.” Kei shrugs. “It’s another one.” He pushes it closer to Kageyama who takes it from him.
“Can I open it?”
Kei nods, letting go of Kageyama to take his place beside him on the couch, just in time as Kageyama opens it and takes out the pieces of paper inside –hand-drawn birthday coupons.
Kei doesn’t actually know how many he’s made, but he knows he made a lot.
“Did you draw all these?” Kageyama asks, shuffling through the coupons and reading what they are for and enjoying the different, simple illustrations on each of them.
Play beach volleyball. Hands and feet massage. And apparently many more that range from normal dates to silly things.
“Yeah, I did.” Kei’s not much of an artist, but he did his best and he thinks it’s passable. He has to keep talking to himself that it’s the effort that counts just so he wouldn’t throw them at the trash can.
“Do you like it?”
Kageyama beams up at him, an unusual but wondrous sight. He nods his head vigorously before he throws his arms around Kei’s neck and pulls him into a tight hug.
“I love it. Thank you!”
He lets go of Kei much too soon for his liking. “I have something for you too.” Before Kei can even ask, Kageyama’s already getting something from under the coffee table and he presents Kei a small box with a neat bow on top.
“Here! My pre-Christmas gift to you,” Kageyama says with a wide smile and a light blush, putting the present on Kei’s lap.
“…What?”
“My pre-Christmas gift. Yamaguchi said it’s a thing between couples? And since we’re spending the day anyway, he said it would be the perfect time to give it to you. This is what the second gift for is, right?”
If Kageyama wasn’t looking so hopeful and happy, Kei would have cursed Yamaguchi out loud for his meddling, again. And how the hell did he even find out that he’s planning to give Kageyama two gifts, (which, for the record, are both for Kageyama’s birthday, by the way)? He made sure he swore Yachi to secrecy and he knows she won’t break it.
The image of his laughing brother come to mind.
Traitors. They both traitors, Kei thinks menacingly.
“Tsukishima?” Kei is pulled away from his thoughts instantly.
“Ah… yeah. Erm, thank you. But you shouldn’t have.”
“But you gave me one.”
“King, both my presents are for your birthday.”
“But Yamaguchi said…”
“Look, forget about him.” Kei says, making Kageyama pout. “Uh, none of that. It’s still your birthday and I’ve still yet to discuss the terms and conditions of your coupons. So let’s talk about that alright.”
---
“So, I can use them anytime I like?”
“That’s what I said, King. And it has no expiration date so you don’t have to use them all up in a year.”
Kageyama goes quiet, looking like he’s thinking about it.
“Alright. But I think I’ll use one today.”
“Already?”
Kageyama nods with a hum and shuffles through the coupons until he finds the one he wants to use. He looks up at Kei with a shy smile as he hands it over to him. Kei doesn’t even have to read what it says, already knows what it is based on the drawing alone.
“Are you sure?”
Kageyama nods silently, blush dusting his cheeks. Kei gets unsure for a moment as his face heats up before he cups Kageyama’s cheek with one hand and they stare into each other’s eyes before he leans in to give his King a sweet, chaste kiss on the lips.
Their first one.
It lasts for a few sweet moments then Kei pulls away, just a little, resting his forehead against Kageyama’s.
“That’s first coupon used, Your Majesty.”
“Does that mean that I would need a coupon every time I want to kiss you, then?”
Kei huffs a soft laugh. “Nope,” he says, leaning in for another of many kisses to come.

When was the last time you let someone know you truly love him/her? Today.
Do you complain when you are bored, or look for something to do? Sometimes, but usually I just still do the things I normally do. Sometimes those things just don’t cut it, though, and I end up lying around watching mindless TV or sleeping. That’s usually when I’m just extra moody or feeling extra sad and down and don’t feel like doing anything.
Do other people’s complaints ever get on your nerves? Yes. If someone is constantly complaining about everything that gets real annoying real fast. I try not to complain a lot. I keep a lot to myself or save it for a survey, ha.
Generally, what is your favorite ride at an amusement park? I used to like the water rides, you know like the Splash Mountain type rides or the ones that are like white water rafting. I like the swing ride, too. I’m not into the water rides anymore, though. That doesn’t leave much for me at most amusement parks. I love Disneyland because there’s so many rides and I can enjoy a lot of them. There’s so much for me to do.
Who is your favorite 90’s musical artist? I love a lot of music from the 90s.
Do you think that music was better when your parents were young, or now? I enjoy various genres and songs across the decades.

What is your favorite children’s song? Nursery rhymes and songs from what I watched as a kid. I was a hardcore Barney fan haha.
Are you good at telling jokes? I’m the worst haha.
Are you uptight, or are you easy going? I think I come off easy going to people that don’t know me well. And I can be with certain things. Like while on vacation or deciding on what to do, I’m a go with the flow kind of person and just go along for the ride so to speak. However, I’m a moody person that gets irritable, frustrated, and overwhelmed. My family wouldn’t say I’m easy going ha.
Other than gas, what do you frequently purchase at a gas station? I don’t purchase gas cause I don’t drive, but I like getting coffee or a Starbucks Doubleshot energy drink sometimes.
What is one concern you have about the present state of the world? The corona virus. Even though it’s like the flu, which is also a serious concern every year and we need to take the same precautions. I guess cause it’s like the newest thing and it’s being talked about constantly, so it’s become a big issue.
Ten years ago, did you think that this was how the world would turn out? I’m not sure how I thought it would turn out. I don’t think I gave it much thought.

If you are homosexual, and you find out your bf/gf is straight, then what?
Have you ever sung karaoke? What songs? Was it fun? Yeah, just for fun with friends at one of our houses. I’ve never done it in public. There’s no way in hell.
Do you study for big tests? I studied for every test.
What makes you nervous? A lot of things. Ha, that reminds me of the cute shirt I got at Disneyland with Rex from Toy Story on it that says, “I’m a nervous rex.”

Do you drive around the neighborhood to look at lights around Xmas? Aww, we used to do that every year when I was a kid. We drove all over town.

Fluff ABC (Chris x MC)

“I am so happy you agreed to do this with me! When James asked me to prepare a Valentine’s Day edition of our newspaper I panicked! Thank you for saying yes, I can’t imagine interviewing any other couple for “Famous non-famous couples” than the most popular Hartfeld couple!” Reyna says excitedly, making herself comfortable on the couch and taking out her notebook.
Amy puts a mug of coffee in front of her and sits next to Chris, smiling widely.
“Of course! I would never refuse to help a friend and besides, it flatters me you think we’re the most popular couple.”
“And I’m always down to talk about how wonderful my fiancee is,” Chris beams, taking Amy’s hand and kissing it gently.
“Aww, you guys are so sweet! Okay, should we get started? Are you ready?” Reyna asks from behind her glasses.
“Ready!”
“Great! I want to ask you about Activities, what you like doing together the most when you have free time?”
“Hmmm, I’d say everything!” Chris starts, “I enjoy Amy’s company so either we go to the cinema together, go for a walk with our dog, or simply study sitting next to each other, it’s all great for me!”
“Oh, hard same! I love simply being with Chris, whatever we do! But my absolute favorite thing is our evening walks! We never skip those, every single evening we take our dog out and we walk long distances and talk about our days and our plans. It’s amazing,” Amy adds and Chris steals a kiss while Reyna is noting what’s been just said.
“And how do you Comfort each other? When one of you has a bad day, or panic attack, or is stressed, what the other person does to comfort you?”
“Amy gives the most amazing pep talks! She can motivate and inspire me like no one else. Anytime I feel down I can count on her listening to me and giving me the best advice and a motivational kick. I, on the other hand, I’m the worst at pep talking but I always make sure she can count on me too!”
“Chris is being too modest, he can give a decent pep talk! But most of the time he comforts me in a different way, he listens to me, gives me hour-long hugs, prepares a relaxing bath for me, makes me some hot cocoa and distracts me from being stressed.”
“Sounds like a perfect boyfriend,” Reyna notices and smiles warmy at them.
“He sure is!” Amy chuckles and Chris scoots her closer to him.
“She makes it easy, with such woman by my side, I can do everything!”
“The readers will love you! Okay, next question. Spill some tea, do you Fight a lot? Who usually starts arguments? Who’s the first to forgive?” Reyna asks and there’s silence for a few moments before finally Chris clears his throat and nods towards Amy to show who starts arguments more often.
“Excuse me?” Amy notices what Chris was doing and pouts. “I don’t start arguments!”
“Yes, you do. Even the smallest thing can make you angry. Empty boxes? Argument! I don’t have enough time for you? Argument! I made plans without consulting you first? Argument and a breakup!”
“Okay, okay. Maybe I am too impulsive and overreact most of the time. The breakup was uncalled for, I admit. But I apologized for that already! And you must admit I was right to be mad at you when you kept forgetting about our dates.”
“Agreed,” he kisses her nose. “Fortunately, I hate when Amy’s mad so I try to come up with a compromise to end the argument.”
“That’s true! Chris hates conflicts and he’s the first one to forgive and to apologize. I’m lucky to have someone who can stand my mood swings,” she laughs and Chris and Reyna join her.
“So now let’s talk Jealousy! Do you get jealous over the other person? Who gets jealous more?”
“I think we both get jealous a little when there’s someone else flirting with the other one. I had to come to terms with the fact that my fiancee is a popular person and lots of guys want to talk to her each day. Luckily,” he takes her hand, showing Reyna the engagement ring Amy is wearing, “now everyone knows she’s mine, and only mine.”
“I must admit I felt very jealous when we all lived with Becca our Sophomore year! She’s Chris’s ex and even though he made it clear there was nothing between them, I still felt a little self-conscious and jealous.”
“I hope you know now that you’re the only one for me,” Chris looks at Amy and she nods.
“To be honest, I’m getting a little bit jealous over your relationship right now! Moving to the next question, do you guys want to get Married? How soon?”
“Well, duh!” Amy shows her ring once again, “Of course I want to marry my bestie! He’s the best and I can’t imagine not spening my life with him!”
“I’ve come a long way since our Freshman year when I wasn’t sure I’d ever trust someone enough to marry them but with each day I fell in love with Amy more and more until one day it hit me, she was the one.”
“Awww, babe!” Amy snuggles closer to him and Reyna smiles at their cuteness.
“We hope to get married within the next two years; right now we’re looking for an apartment to settle in but I can’t wait to marry her and start our family together!”
“I wish you all the happiness in the world! And I hope I’m invited to the wedding. Now, tell me about Yearning. How do you cope when you two miss each other?”
“Whenever I go for championship, I facetime Amy every day and message her all day. I make sure I’m the first person she ‘sees’ when she wakes up and last one when she goes to sleep.”
“And I, on top of that, wear Chris’s T-shirts and jerseys! They smell like him and it makes me feel like he’s still there!”
“So that’s why I can never find my clothes! I thought I lost them all!” Chris exclaims and Amy laughs.
“Now you know! And I hope you’ll still let me keep them!”
“Ah, this will make a perfect article! Now I think I’ll just give a Wild Card!”
“I don’t think I understand what we’re supposed to do here?” Amy asks confused.
“Just tell me something sweet about your relationship! Something you haven’t talked about yet.”
“Well, there are many things but nothing in particular comes to my mind...” Chris bites his lower lip trying to come up with something when suddenly Amy jumps on the couch raising her hand.
“Ohh, I have something! Chris does it more every night and--”
“AMY! Remember we keep it PG-rated!” Chris shifted uncomfortably on the couch, nervously looking at Reyna noting something.
“Oh, stop it, I wasn’t going to say anything inappriopriate! Anyway, as you know, Chris is like a walking furnace, he’s never cold and I’m his complete opposite! I’m always cold, I’m actually one of those people who wear socks to bed even in summer. So now, every time Chris goes to bed first, which happens pretty much everyday because I’m a night owl and I go to sleep an hour or two later, he lays on my side of the bed, wrapped in a comforter, even though it’s too hot for him, so that when I join him later, my side is all ready and warm. He’s been doing this ever since we moved in together the Junior year and I think it’s super adorable,” Amy explains and Chris blushes.
“Aww, this is so sweet of you Chris!” Reyna says which makes Chris even more flustered.
“It’s not a big deal, I can’t let my favorite girl catch a cold,” he kisses the top of Amy’s head and Reyna sighs.
“Well, I wish I could ask you more but I’m afraid these are all of the questions I have prepared for you. Thank you so much for letting me interview you!”
“It’s been a pleasure,” Chris says and stands up helping Reyna with her things.
“If you ever need any help, just let us know!” Amy adds as Reyna waves her hand goodbye.
"Thank you for taking part in it! I hope you’ll like the article! But now I still have a few more couples to get to...”

Who wants to live forever; Brian May x reader
Hello all of you tumblr people you. I hope you all had a good Valentines day yesterday if not then I hope you had a blast of reading fics like I did (while also suffering through a cold yeah this girl’s been sick this week since the day after my bday) But I’m not here to talk about colds or any of that stuff, no I am here because I wanted you all to read a special Brian May fic that I have been thinking about doing.
Now I have seen a lot of fics revolving around Brian’s song “39” which is a good concept, but what I wanted to try out was the song that was made for the movie Highlander “who wants to live forever?” Which is such a powerful and sad song in itself (as is the movie). So while you all patiently wait for the next update of my Rock Angel series, every now and then you’ll see oneshots whether platonic or romantic revolving around our 4 boys of Queen.
Warnings: Swearing, INTENSE FLUFF *mostly from the Poodle boy down below*, angst, some smut *not very descriptive but minor smut none the less so >18yr olds READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. I DO NOT WANT TO GET SENT TO JAIL FOR THIS.* and spoilers for those who haven’t seen Highlander (which you all SHOULD. Queen Music EVERYWHERE!!)
Now that that’s out of the way, enjoy my darlings :)

____________________________________________________
Most people always think about what it would be like to live forever.  Never dying, never growing old, always remaining the same. Like a living, breathing photograph walking around as time changes. My cousins and I were having that usual conversation as usual since they were always fearing what would happen in the future or fearing death itself.  As we sat around our usual favorite pub having a girls day out, I was away in my thoughts unaware that my cousin Lucy was trying to talk to me.
“(Y/n). (y/n)? Earth to (Y/n)!” I snapped out of my dazed state and said.
“Hmm wha? What did you say?”
“Jesus (n/n), you were so deep in your head you were almost drooling.” Lucy teased.
“Probably dreaming and thinking about that husband of hers.” My other cousin Hanna said.
“Fuck you both.” I said as I downed down my whiskey shot.
“Wow what a mouth. You kiss Brian with that?” asked Hanna in mock shock.
“In all honesty, how are things going between the two of you?”
“Things are great, the kids are good. Queen has been doing good, right now they’ve just got accepted into recording for a movie. But I’m not allowed to talk about it.”
“Aww come on (n/n) we promise not to tell.”
“Yeah right Luce. For all the years I’ve known you, you’ve got the biggest niche for gossip. If I told you then half of London will know what’s going on.” I sassed her.
“Wow harsh. You wound me so much (n/n).” she said as she placed her hand over her heart while I stuck my tongue at her chuckling at her.
“Back to our conversation before, you never gave us an answer. In fact you barely give us an answer at all when we talk about this. What do you think about living forever?” Hanna said.  I looked at her and said.
“I don’t know guys I mean…..”
“Oh come on (y/n). Haven’t you ever thought about it? Not even once? Never getting any older, remaining as beautiful as you are today. Seeing how the world changes each generation. You and Brian staying together forever.” Hanna stated the last phrase slyly.
At that statement my ears perked up.
“What are you saying?”
“I’m saying that you and Brian could remain together forever. Never once having to see the other die and remain alone suffering until it’s your time to kick the bucket. You and Brian would remain eternal forever.”
Okay well that may have persuaded me to side on the wishing to live forever.  The rest of the day my cousins and I continued to chat, eat and drink until it was time to call it a day and get back before the husbands did.
I was in the kitchen making dinner while Jimmy and Louisa were watching TV.  As I was cutting up the vegetables for the salsa and as I put them into the pot, I felt two arms wrap around me which startled me before I relaxed and knew who it was.
“Jesus, you know how I feel about you sneaking up like a tom cat while I’m cooking. Don’t you remember the last time when I nearly chopped off my finger because of you?”
“Which I why I timed it better. I thought you’d be happy to see me?” I turned towards my husband of 10 years and boyfriend of 18 years.  Brian and I had met each other during University back when he and Roger were still with Tim as Smile.  He and I were both the same majors so we both had the same physics professor, he was so shy so I actually approached him and asked him out on a date.
One coffee date turned to another and soon we shared our first kiss with each other. And at that moment the two of us kissed, I knew he was the one.  Because it felt like I was kissing myself, meaning that I had found my soulmate.  I was there supporting Brian all throughout the Smile career and then when Freddie came along and changed Smile to Queen and their careers as rock stars skyrocketed, I remained loyal to Brian’s side.
But of course like every relationship there’s arguments especially when I had fallen pregnant with our son Jimmy a few years ago.  There have been some fights so bad that I felt like we’d ended up divorced but like a family, we tried to make it work and we just fit so well together that we ended up staying together.  Because that’s what we are.
Two stars forming the same constellation.
I turned back around towards Brian and said.
“You know I always am.” He leaned downward and captured my lips with his in a genuine kiss.  I let out a soft moan as I wrapped my arm around his neck burying my hand into his mess of curls.  I turned around so that his arms wrapped around my waist bringing me closer, deepening our kiss when we heard.
“EWWWW!!!” Brian and I separated from each other to see Jimmy at the kitchen entrance and I buried my face embarrassed into Brian’s chest and that’s when Jimmy said again.  “Why must you two kiss? That’s gross”
“Because your mother is beautiful and you always kiss a beautiful girl. One day you will understand Jimmy.”
“Girls are nasty!” he groaned out.
“Oh so does that make me disgusting? Huh?” I chased after my son who raced off before finally catching him and tickling me and pretending to gobble him up.
After having supper and putting the kids to bed, I was in the bathroom getting ready for bed myself after having a long day at the lab while Brian was on the bed and I could hear him humming and mumbling to himself.
Whenever he’s inspired or trying out new guitar riffs, he’s always mumbling to himself just so he could test it out.  Sometimes he uses a tape recorder just so he could go back to it, sometimes he doesn’t it just really depends.  But I know that when he’s mumbling to himself to not disturb him so that he wouldn’t lose it.
So I just listened to his humming and babbling.  It sounded more like a ballad than the usual rock and roll that he would do. And I thought it was only just one song that the boys agreed to do with the movie they’re working on.  Once I was done getting around, I got into bed and just listened to Brian as he kept writing down on pieces of paper lyrics and guitar notes.  When he finally took a break, I finally spoke up.
“That’s beautiful. Is it for the movie?”
“Yeah, we actually got to see the first footage of it. And after seeing it, we had to write more. This is my song for it.”
“So you and the boys got to see the movie? Remind me what’s it called again?”
“Highlander.”
“Ahh. So what happens in it?” Brian turned to me and he said.
“Ohh no love, we were sworn to not give away any plot points. You’ll find out when we go see it at the premiere.”
“Come on Brian you know I can keep a secret.” I said as I crawled up towards him and wrapped my arms around his shoulders and burying my face into his neck.
“Why must you always seduce me to get something out of me?” he asked. I kissed his jawline and whispered in his ear.
“Because I know it works.” He turned towards me and his eyes turned to pure lust as he said.
“You Dr. May are a siren of the seas.”
“And just what are you going to do about that Dr. May? You gonna show me the stars?” He crawled over me so that I was now lying on the bed, his face barely inches away from mine as he whispered.
“I’ll show you more than just the stars my love.” He captured my lips in a passionate and heated kiss and our tongues dancing together in a heated dance.
It’s unbelievable that after all this time together, Brian can still make sparks fly off my sky with either a single graze of his long, calloused but delicate guitar fingers, a kiss onto my skin, or whispers in my ear.  Our bodies intertwined with each other in a sensual yet love making dance.  All the while staring deeply into each other’s eyes not once breaking contact with each other as every now and then our lips would graze against each other’s before joining together in a passionate meld once again.
By the end of it all, Brian and I were cuddled together my head resting on his chest hearing his heartbeat his right arm was wrapped securely around my waist tracing patterns and shapes along my back while his left hand was stroking down my hair.  I stroked through his chest hair softly while feeling a kiss being placed at the crown of my head.
“Do you ever wonder what it would be like to live forever?” I asked out of the blue. I felt Brian’s head move away from mine and I looked up at him and he asked.
“What brought this up?”
“Just a common topic my cousins like to talk about. This time they really wanted my opinion on it. Tried to make me side with the idea.”
“And do you?”
“If it meant you and I would be together forever…..maybe. Is that bad?” I asked genuinely wondering if I had answered the question right.  Even for a female astrophysicist like myself who knows pretty much everything about the cosmos and the galaxy, this was one answer I had doubts about.  Brian leaned his forehead against mine, our noses gently grazing one another’s and he said.
“I think there might be a trial to that question that will make you rethink it. But it will have to wait a few more months.” He gingerly brushed away some strands of my hair away before cupping my cheek lovingly.  “Sleep now my darling, you look exhausted.”
“You have no idea. Discovering new planets and stars really drains you. You’re lucky you don’t have to deal with that.”
“One day I will though. That way I can be around you more.” He brought me closer to him before kissing my nose delicately making me scrunch it up which made him chuckle softly. “You always make the cutest face when you scrunch your nose love.”
“Yeah right.”
“No, no I mean it. But then you’re cute all the time.” I shook my head at his cheesiness and said to him.
“Goodnight my bright moon.”
“Sleep well, my shining star.” He whispered lovingly as he pressed his forehead against mine.  We kissed each other one last time before cuddling with each other and falling asleep in each other’s arms.
Then on March 7th, 1986 we went to America for the premiere of “Highlander”. Queen was invited to walk the red carpet since they were in charge of the music so they had immediate invites. After walking the red carpet and the press getting the pictures they wanted from the actors, film crew and even of Queen, we all piled in the Chinese theater and soon the film began.
Highlander told the story of a man named Connor Macleod who had been chosen to become an immortal and each immortal is chosen to battle each other until one can remain and claim the ultimate prize.  If used for good the prize would bring about goodness, but in the hands of evil it would be nothing but chaos.
Along with the action, there was a tragedy to it.  Connor had to outlive everyone he ever came in contact with.  His first wife sided with his village and drove him out because they thought he had made a pact with the devil to remain alive after being slain in battle.  It wasn’t until he met his true love Heather.
After a tragic scene that happened I heard the sound of an organ starting up and soon my husband’s soft angelic voice began to sing as the scene went to a flashback of Heather and Connor together after Juan was killed by the Kurgan.  As the scene went on, I felt this ache in my heart as Freddie’s voice soon came up and as Connor rode back to their house calling out for Heather that’s when the tears really spilled out.
Because Heather was now an old woman greying and wrinkled while Connor remained unphased and young.  But he still held the same love as he had when she was younger.
As Heather and Connor had their last moments together as the song now played its instrumental track, tears were spilling down my face as Heather made Connor promise to light a candle for her on her birthday.  As she now lay in Connor’s lap and Connor was describing the Highlands to her, I felt Brian take my hand and as I turned to him, he leaned his forehead against mine and kissed away my tears as we turned back to the screen as Heather now died and Connor burned his home and had to move on.
Heartbroken and alone.
By the end of the movie, people clapped and I wiped away my tears and clapped along with them.  Now seeing the movie began to change my perspective on eternal life, and now I know exactly what to tell my cousins next time the three of us are together.
Getting back to the hotel room, I immediately grabbed Brian by the collar of his suit and kissed him passionately.  His arms wrapped around me and when air became a burden, I separated from him and he said.
“I take it you loved the song?”
“Brian Harold May, you are a musical angel. Why must you always write the most beautiful yet sad songs for Queen?” He smiled down at me and kissed me softly before holding me close.
That night we were both cuddled into the bed, our limbs entangled with one another’s as I had my face buried into the crook of my husband’s neck.
“I couldn’t bear to outlive any of the boys, our kids. Grandkids. People always look at eternal life as this positive thing. But they don’t understand that it’s not all that happy. It must be so lonely. I hope folks get that out of this movie.”
“I hope so too. I also know this,” he gently hooked his index finger underneath my chin and had me look up at him as he continued, “If I were offered whether to live forever or dying at your side. I would choose the latter. Because I would rather share one lifetime on this earth with you, than face all the ages to come alone. And I know that in the end, we will meet each other again. For we are two parts of the same atom, two stars of the same constellation stream,” he spoke softly as our hands slowly came together and we both either turned them either clockwise or counterclockwise until finally our hands were palm to palm, fingertip to fingertip.
“Two souls intertwined throughout the cosmos. Destined to be together forever, even after death do us part.” I finished our wedding vows.  Brian leaned closer and captured my lips with his in a gentle kiss. As we separated from the kiss but kept nose to nose Brian stared deeply into my eyes as he softly smiled at me lovingly.
“Sleep now, my bonny (y/n).” I smiled tiredly at him as his index and tall finger lightly came over my brows and softly slid down to close my eyelids as I felt him very lightly peck my forehead, the tip of my nose, cheeks and finally my lips. I nuzzled into his chest, burying my hand underneath his nightshirt and the two of us fell into a blissful sleep.
*Extended ending*
A few months later after getting the chance to go see my cousins again after a busy day at the office these past few months, I told my cousins about the movie Highlander since it was now out in the UK and I gave them my real answer when it comes to immortality.
“Never would I wish to be immortal.”
“And why’s that? I thought you and Brian would want to be together forever?” Lucy said.
“But in the end we’d have to suffer as we watch everyone we love die. Freddie, Deacy, Roger, our kids, our future grandkids, you ladies. I wouldn’t know how to continue on without all my friends and family in my life. Plus as a mother I never want to bury my child before me. That’s not how life is supposed to work.” At that statement, my two cousins were crying and they too began to rethink their perspective of eternal life.
Immortality.  Some people long for it because they fear of death, or just don’t want to grow old and wish to remain young forever.  But immortality isn’t just a blessing, it’s also a curse in disguise.  For those we love have to die before us while the immortal continues on in life, lost, heartbroken and alone.
So answer me this, who wants to live forever?

I know I've stopped posting and checking tumblr since the content ban but this is really the only place I have to vent this and I'll probably delete it later or something..
I've been with my partner for a little over 1yr 3mos,so today is our second valentines day together.
I'm not a material person and I know it's a manufactured hallmark holiday but I've always really, really loved valentines day and thought it was cute and sappy and romantic etc etc
last year i got him a bunch of cute stuff and he didn't get me anything, but we'd only been together a little over 3 months at that time so while i was kinda bummed i didn't think too much on it. and it was after that and him feeling kinda bad at the time that i figured it wouldn't happen again or anything like that. w/e
I've been so excited for this year and have been shopping for stuff i knew he liked. I got a heart tin of dove dark chocolates because I knew he likes them, I got him a white diamond tshirt and a pair of his favorite brand of underwear, and I searched around till I found a perfect card. it's all wrapped up waiting for tonight.
we were hanging out yesterday and I briefly mentioned "i finally finished my valentines shopping" just to be vague and cute and tease him. I didn't expect a response of anything beyond and "aww" or something. but he straight up looks at me and says "i haven't gotten you anything yet" and I have NO clue why he would say that like i needed to know that so I just.. stared into my coffee and changed the subject. I was with him hanging out all day yesterday and slept over. he took me home this morning before he had work. and he's coming to pick me up for dinner immediately after he leaves work. his lunch break is only 30 mins and he has to use most of that time to grab food and beat traffic. so I know that if he didn't have anything by yesterday afternoon, he's not gonna have anything tonight.
I don't care about jewelry or expensive junk or anything. but just some kind of thought that counts kinda thing? like I would be perfectly touched and content with a dollar tree card and one of those single fake roses they sell. or like, literally just the dollar card. or, even if he just cut a piece of paper into a heart and wrote i love you on it and spent absolutely 0 money whatsoever, I would still be so happy and grateful because it would be the thought and care.
I know he cares and I know he loves me, but the lack of thought is really hurting me right now. I'm gonna be sitting, dreading all day, then getting super prettied up and getting my gift ready just to like, have to face this reality later. it sucks.

“May all your marshmallows burn.” You choose the ship!
I know this has been in my ask box since December. Sorry for the wait! I got… a little carried away. I sort of wanted to contribute to Pridecember even though I’d never written pride before, but I also wanted to add another ship Cupcake likes, and… my brain chose puff.  Which I’d also never written before. Lol.
So, please, enjoy this silly fic about Jounouchi inviting everyone to a campout after Atem returns in a secret bid to get to know him better and promptly getting mad that Atem and Kaiba are “ignoring” him. :v
Post-canon, returned Atem AU, established pride, unestablished puff, 1.8k words.
Excerpt:
“Thought you hated‘em,” said Jounouchi, leering at him.
Kaiba shrugged. “No,I just don’t find them very exciting.” Nonetheless, he extendedhis stick and allowed the marshmallow to ignite. Atem did the same, taking the opportunity to brush shoulders with Kaiba.
“That’s it?Just… ‘not very exciting’?” Jounouchi squinted at Kaiba. “Youfeeling okay?”
Another shrug. Thelittle glance at Atem told Jounouchi everything he needed to know, and the encouraging smile Atem returned? Damning.
Atem crouched by thebonfire. As it flickered, the firelight drew out the shifting, alchemical hue of his eyes, a color Jounouchi had never been able toput a name to. So like Yuugi’s. But the face was different now –familiar, in the abstract, a song he could recall only in fragments. As Jounouchi watched, Atem inched closer to the fire.
“Just, uh… becareful,” said Jounouchi, wringing his hands. He knew, realistically, that Atem understood the boundaries of his physicalform – even before he remembered himself, he’d piloted Yuugi’sbody, after all. But part of him still worried, especially now thatAtem was mortal again – as far as any of them could tell. Jounouchiwasn’t eager to test it.
“It’s alright,Jounouchi. I can handle myself around fire.” A smile played onAtem’s lips.
“Right.”Jounouchi flushed. Atem had probably been around a lot more firesthan Jounouchi ever had, now that he could remember them. “So, youwant to-” He paused as Atem moved back and settled beside Kaiba.Several quilts were spread around the makeshift campsite (which wasreally just a secluded corner of the Kaiba estate), but of courseKaiba had taken up residence on the one furthest from Jounouchi. Ofcourse Atem had to join him.
“To what?” Atemblinked up at him, still smiling. At least he looked eager enough.
“Maybe… roastsome marshmallows?” Jounouchi indicated the bag at his feet, alongside several clean sticks he had gathered earlier in the day.
Atem rubbed hishands together. “Sure! That’s definitely something I’ve neverdone before. I’ve never had a marshmallow at all.”
“They’re hardlyremarkable.” Kaiba scooted a little closer to Atem. “Just sugar.”
“You’re hardlyremarkable!” snapped Jounouchi, waving a stick in Kaiba’sdirection. “Don’t listen to him. Marshmallows are great, especially over a fire.”
“Can’t wait,”Atem said, letting his leg touch Kaiba’s. Kaiba said nothing at all– only glanced at Atem, who met his gaze and smiled. This touch wasnot accidental.
Jounouchi sighed andbegan spearing the fluffy confections. Even if he had invitedeveryone, in his heart, he had done this for Atem. He didn’t needto know him to love him. He already did, just as much as he lovedYuugi. Yet, their entire relationship passed in the shadow of oneworld-rending crisis after another. They would always have DuelMonsters, but what else was there? When had there been time foranything else?
It was just… beingalone with him was a little intimidating. What if they reallydidn’t have anything to talk about but Duel Monsters? What if…
He just had to workaround it, that was all. Ease in. Get everyone together. Theimportant thing was that Atem was here again. If it lasted forever –great. But they didn’t know that, and Jounouchi wasn’t going totake any chances this time around. The problem was Kaiba.
(Wasn’t italways?)
He didn’t protestKaiba’s presence here, in theory. Aside from the fact that he letthem use his yard for their faux camping trip, Kaiba could use anyreprieve you lured him into. Jounouchi suspected that, if not forAtem, he wouldn’t be caught dead here.
It wasn’t likeJounouchi begrudged them their happiness, either. Atem was happy– Jounouchi couldn’t deny it. It was even kind of nice to seeKaiba smiling to himself when he thought you weren’t looking. Hecould pretend he didn’t have feelings all he liked, but it wasobvious to anyone who spent five minutes with him that he was one ofthe most emotional people on the planet. They just weren’t usuallypleasant emotions. It was a change of pace, anyway.
But did they have toalways do this? Right in front of him? Leaving him completely out ofthe loop? To make matters worse, it would be a while before anyoneelse arrived. He was the one who organized this, so he came early.Kaiba lived here. And Atem… probably had been here already.
When he handed themtheir sticks, something else troubled him: Kaiba didn’t complain. He didn’t snipe. He just… accepted his.
Damning.
“Well,” saidJounouchi, “how nice to see the great Kaiba lowering his standardsenough to eat marshmallows with a peasant like me.”
“It’s… not sobad.”
Jounouchi paled. Notonly was Atem flaking out on him, now Kaiba was, too. Not thatJounouchi really wanted to get into it with Kaiba tonight, but theyhad – a certain relationship. It was just how they were. Somethinghe could depend on.
Apparently, though,Kaiba had more important things to concentrate on right now. Likesneaking his gloved hand over Atem’s beneath their coat sleeves. Ifthey thought they were being subtle, Jounouchi would hate to seeobvious. “May all your marshmallows burn,” he whispered.
“What?” askedAtem, head swiveling in Jounouchi’s direction.
“Oh, nothing…nothing at all.” He tried to grin, though it was more of a grimace. There was nothing like witnessing a flirt fest to remind you that youdidn’t have a date for Christmas Eve. Or Valentine’s Day. Or theforeseeable future. Not a single romantic prospect to speak of.
Well. Maybe one. Butthat was – no. Just a little gaming here and there, and even thathad probably only happened because Shizuka had to drop out of thecampaign for a while. If he’d made a habit of staying aftereveryone else left, laughing into the night, enjoying the company ofthe dungeon master… that wasn’t so abnormal, was it?
A rustle drewJounouchi’s attention. Atem sat up now, drawing his hand away fromKaiba, and started forward. “Oh!” With satisfaction, Jounouchinoted that both of their marshmallows had burned… as had hisown.
“Oh, come on…”Jounouchi yanked it out of the fire and blew furiously, feelinganother pang of satisfaction as Atem observed him and did the same, and his heart softened as Atem stared at his charred marshmallow witha furrowed brow. “Aww, don’t worry about it,” he said. “Somepeople even like ‘em burnt. You have to try it at least once, right?”
That did the trick.Atem brightened, and, before Jounouchi could stop him, popped theentire marshmallow into his mouth. His eyes widened, and his handsshot up, hovering in front of his face. “Hot-!”
“You gotta let itcool more than that!” He started to say something else, but Kaibaclutched Atem’s arm in concern, and nobody was looking at Jounouchianymore. Again.
“I’m fine,”said Atem, murmuring thickly around molten sweetness, though therewere tears in his eyes. He swallowed hard and stuck out his tongue, sighing as the cool air washed over it.
“Do you needanything?” asked Kaiba, grabbing Atem’s hand. “A drink?”
If Jounouchi had towatch another minuteof this…
“Hello, everyone!”
There he was. Anangel, here to rescue Jounouchi from this unfolding disaster – tosave him from his loneliness. And also from himself.
“I’m not late,am I?” asked Bakura. His eyes swept over the deserted campsite, andthen – over Atem and Kaiba, hands still entwined. “Ah.” Heflopped down directly beside Jounouchi, who could almost cry. Atleast someone was nice enough to sit with him. Very close, infact. As close as Atem was to Kaiba.
“Not at all,”said Jounouchi, peering down at him. It wasn’t the first time he’ddone this, of late – sitting a little closer to Jounouchi thancircumstance strictly necessitated. Until now, Jounouchi had chosento interpret this innocently: Bakura simply failed to register hisintrusion on Jounouchi’s personal bubble. He was, after all, soeasily distracted. Now, though… with their shoulders nearlytouching… Jounouchi swallowed. “You cold?”
But that wasn’treally the question Jounouchi was asking. Of course he was cold. Itwas cold. He wondered if someone as… self-absorbed as Bakurawould even pick up on it, but the look in his eyes when he noddedbanished all doubts. Steeling himself, Jounouchi draped an arm overBakura’s shoulder, and when Bakura relaxed against him, he relaxed, too. “No one’s really here,” he continued Casting a sharpglance at the others, he added, “We’re hardly even talking.”
“Sorry, I- got alittle distracted,” said Atem, scooching away from Kaiba. “Let’s-”
“No, no, don’ttrouble yourself about me now,” said Jounouchi, frowning.
Atem and Kaibastared at each other, blinking. “Are you… not having a good time,Jounouchi?” Atem asked, genuinely confused. “I just thought-since you and Kaiba don’t get along so well, we were trying to-”
How could Atem be sodense? Jounouchi’s free hand balled into a fist. “Me and Kaibaget along just fine when he’s not ignoring me!”
“Ignoring you?”Kaiba was just as bewildered now. “I thought I was…” Hewrinkled his nose. “’Behaving myself.’” Obviously not hisphrasing. Jounouchi had one guess for whose it was.
“It doesn’treally matter now. You can keep ignoring me. Whatever.” He squeezedBakura’s shoulder. “I have Bakura now.”
Bakura laughed andgave Jounouchi’s arm a mock slap. “Be nice. They’re justenjoying each other’s company.” Atem couldn’t help but smile.Kaiba set his jaw, but he didn’t deny it.
“I guess,”Jounouchi said, narrowing his eyes at them. He couldn’t keep thesulk out of his voice. “It’s just-”
“Shh.” Bakurasnagged a marshmallow out of the bag and shoved it into Jounouchi’smouth.
“Mmph!” Herelaxed and swallowed the marshmallow, flushing deeper as Bakura’sfingers brushed his lips on their way back to the bag. Satisfied,Bakura offered him another, gentler this time. He took it, wide-eyed.
“There,” saidBakura. “That’s better.” Leaning close, he whispered, “Thisweek was awful, and I didn’t sleep at all last night. If you wantto show them up, take advantage of my temporary lack of shame anddesire for companionship.”
“Um,” saidJounouchi, swallowing his marshmallow.
“Even if it’sjust to spite them, you know, I really don’t-”
“No!” saidJounouchi, managing to startle all three of the others, tearingKaiba and Atem from their own whispered conversation. Now thateveryone was looking at him, Jounouchi wasn’t so sure hewanted it anymore. “What’re you waiting for?” he said, wavingdismissively at Atem and Kaiba. “He’s right. Enjoy each other.”
They gave up andscooched back together. Atem’s hand found its way to Kaiba’s– perhaps emboldened by the current state of Jounouchi and Bakura. It wasn’t the end of the world. Jounouchi would have other chances
Bakura, on the otherhand, peered at Jounouchi, head tilted. “No?”
Jounouchi sighed, whispering back. “I mean, it’s not- it’s more than-” Heexhaled, gratefully accepting the marshmallow Bakura extended, givinghim a moment to think. “Are… you doing anything on Christmas?”

Despite all this, I still love you 14
Word count: 2433
The following morning she had woken up to a cold hand roughly shaking her back and forth and she elbowed at the air in an effort to ward them off. “What?” She grumbled, cracking open one eye and looking at Mary-Beth who chewed on her bottom lip. She looked worried once Nora was able to take a better look at her.
“I'm sorry to wake you, but have you seen Kieran?” Mary-Beth asked her. She moved her arms around without method and would occasionally play with the fabric of her skirt to distract herself but never did that look in her eye falter. “No I haven't. He's probably by the horses.”
“I've checked-”
“The shed outside then? Usually smokes there.”
Mary-Beth shook her head again. “Looked everywhere for him.”
“I'm sure he's fine. Grown adult after all so don't worry.” Mary-Beth didn't appear happy with the answer Nora gave and sighed at the minimal help provided. She stormed out of the living room and called again for him, this worry breaking her voice as she tried to blink away some of the tears that threatened to fall.
Arthur, who was eavesdropping in the hallway, eventually entered the old parlour just as Nora began to pull on her boots again and gave the woman a smile in greeting before sitting opposite. “How long you stayin'?”
“Not sure… eager to be rid of me are ya?” And quickly he raised his hands in defense to her claim. “Now that ain't what I meant.”
“I'm jus' kiddin' with ya.” Nora chuckled and Arthur only shook his head. “Mary-Beth has been lookin' for Kieran all mornin'.”
“If he's missing could you blame her? It's the same if someone you care for goes missin', like Dutch or John or Hosea.” He chewed his lip in thought and nodded slowly, knowing what she meant by this but Kieran was an adult who knew how to survive by all means there shouldn't have been anything to worry about.
She looked around the house briefly incase anybody was near and eavesdropping before she leaned towards Arthur. “Between us two, I last seen him wonderin' somewhere out of camp. If somethin' happened to him-”
“I'm sure he's fine, Nora.. but I'll keep an eye out for him.”
“Good.” Nora said. She stood from the seat with Arthur's help and made way outside to be greeted by Dutch who held out his arms for her. She moved away from a hug with an excuse of not feeling well but did allow him to tap her shoulder. “Thank you for your help with, Jack.”
“Weren't nothin'.” She replied but Dutch didn't like her answer. “It was everything. The whole lot of what you've done for us and we're very, very grateful.” She smiled awkwardly at his compliments or perhaps his thanks and wiggled away from his grip once the uncomfortable feelings set it, but that didn't mean to say she wasn't honoured by his kind words. “It ain't nothin', sir.”
“Arthur- will you excuse Miss Morgan an' I so we can talk in quiet.” Dutch told him and the man obligated with a small nod, walking away from the duo and over to Mary-Beth who had just finished talking with Grimshaw. For a moment he did watch as they disappeared inside before turning towards the female who was ready to ask someone else for Kieran's whereabouts.
“Ain't he old enough to look after himself, Mary-Beth?”
“Oh I know this, I'm just.. real worried for him.”
“I've said I'll keep an eye out an' Nora will probably do the same, we both leave the camp often enough that we'll likely cross paths and if it makes you feel better, I can take you out to clear your head.. and maybe have you steal somethin' who knows.” Mary-Beth chuckled at his offer and nodded slowly, giving him a gentle smile.
“I'd like that very much, but can Karen and Tilly come?”
“I don't see the problem with it.” He chuckled and she cheered gleefully at the agreement, almost forgetting about Kieran for a moment. “Jus' find him for me, please.” She begged and the male nodded slowly at her request.
“I will.”
“Thank you.” Arthur nodded sideways towards the girls. “Why don't you go round them up an' we'll have that trip into town. You ain't been to Saint Denis yet have you?”
Mary-Beth shook her head slowly but smiled as for a while she had been planning to sneak out and explore this city. She scurried away to talk with the woman and Arthur chuckled at her enthusiasm, when he turned to look back at the door he noticed Nora emerging from inside. “Hello, Arthur.”
“What'd Dutch need to speak with you about?”
“Somethin' regarding a party at the mayor's house. He just wanted information on it.”
“The party?”
Nora shook her head. “The house an' whatnot.” He lit a cigarette and smoked it while waiting for Mary-Beth to continue and she used his silence to continue on. “He asked me to go to this party, too.”
“What'd you say?”
“I said I hate dressin' up but I'd do it for the right amount and he agreed.”
“Well I feel with you around ain't nothin' gonna stop us from succeeding.”
“Ain't you the charmer.”
Karen ran up to the pair and placed her hands on her hips as soon as she came to a halt and just behind her she was followed by Mary-Beth and Tilly who looked exhausted from running the short distance they did.
“Well, when we leavin' then?” Her face lit up and Nora looked up at Arthur with a confused expression. The male quickly looked down towards her and scratched the back of his neck slowly. “I offered to take the women out to Saint Denis. Would you want to accompany us, Miss Morgan?” Mary-Beth looked excited but also looked on at Nora as she waited her answer. It was obvious in
“Well, when we leavin' then?” The women cheered in union and on Arthur's command followed him out towards the wagon, the very same they last went in when the girls had a trip to Valentine.
“Why don't you drive for now, Miss?” Arthur offered and she gladly took the reins for the journey. Setting the horses forward once the others were properly seated in the wagon and ready to move.
...
The girls marveled at the city from afar as she began to cross over one of the many bridges and among their chorus of “Ooh's and Ah's” the two at front couldn't help but stifle a little laughter as they found themselves amused regarding their excitement over something so plain.
Mary-Beth had taken particular liking to the lights on most street corners and even more liking to the theatre, grand in it's standing. As Nora rode past she begged they stop to watch a show and seeing as it was still fairly early Nora mentioned that instead they return later.
She had no specific destination in mind for them to visit and the city was nothing too exciting to look at, at least not for her, but the women did enjoy what they saw even the markets. “While we are here, mind if I stop at the general store? Need to buy few supplies.”
Tilly spoke up. “Of course.”
Nora climbed down and the others followed suit, the large group entering the store which surprised the clerk who's business had been running dry over the past few weeks. He recognised Nora and mentioned how he was glad to see her again after a long time and she could only offer a subtle wave.
“Has Cripps sent you out on errands again?” The clerk asked and Nora could only laugh at the truth in his question. “He sent me out a couple days ago actually, only gettin' around to it.”
“You're a busy woman.”
“Guess I am.” Nora pointed behind her at the group of people who looked on with curious faces and in particular she had singled out Arthur. “These are some associates of mine and this in particular is Arthur Callahan.” She used his false name and the man nodded.
“Well it's nice to meet you all, any friends of Nora is a friend of mine.”
“Cripps has asked me to buy some ingredients for the stew as well as huntin' supplies. Got all that in stock?”
The clerk nodded, bending down to pick up a crate hidden behind his counter. He rummaged inside momentarily before pulling out a few boxes of express rifle ammo and presenting it to her. Her face lit up when she saw them and quickly she pocketed them and handed over the correct amount of money owed, then he later passed over fresh and canned peaches.
“I still have no idea what sort of stew you make with these, but I s'pose Cripps does put kidney beans and chocolate together and it works.”
“S'pose he's been around for that long that no matter what it'll taste decent.”
The clerk laughed and counted the last of her money handed over, smiling with the amount given. “Thank you, ma'am.”
“Well, it had been nice seein' ya.” She clicked her tongue and left the shop with the others behind her.
“Where to now?” Tilly asked, jogging to catch up with Nora as she led them through the city. She decided that walking would be the best course of action due to the crowded state the city was always in.
“I don't know.” Nora answered honestly. “We could grab a drink at the saloon or go to that theatre?”
“Theatre?” Mary-Beth piped up and Nora nodded at the only option given.
Nora took the girls by the arm and walked with them down the alleyways of the city, stepping over drunkards on their way. “You ever seen a show before?” Karen asked Nora and she slowly nodded.
“Lem took me once.” and a song of 'Awws' chimed out from the group. Nora rolled her eyes at their reaction, opening the door for the theatre open and allowing them to enter.
...
“I'm just surprised that you wore a dress.” Lem commented as he paid for the tickets and she stuck her tongue out at him in a playful manner. “I do wear dresses often, just not when with you.”
“And why's that? I think they suit you.”
“I always end up in some sorta trouble when we're together, love.” She chuckled lightly. “I'd wear 'em more often for you if you like.”
Lem flushed a bright red before placing his hand on the small of her back and walking her inside, avoiding her gaze.
...
“Can I have a couple of tickets for the show please? Five exactly.”
She traded over money for the tickets and led the group inside the theatre and Mary-Beth marveled at it's eccentric beauty. She made a comment about how romantic the ordeal was before scooting down an isle to sit at one of the seats.
Nora ended up sat next to Arthur and she noticed how excited they looked, the women more than Arthur, as soon as the lights dimmed and Albridge stepped out.
...
“That was fun!” Karen cheered as she ran out into the streets of Saint Denis, almost choking on the thick air of the swamps when out there. Mary-Beth followed behind and held onto the female's hand, squeezing it gently in doing so. “Oh this was such a good show.”
Tilly emerged with a small smile, already talking sense despite the fun they had been having. “I'm afraid we ought to get back before Grimshaw kills us all.” and the others frowned as their joy was brought down. Tilly only shook her head and wrapped her arms around the girls' shoulders, leading them back down the alleys to where they had left their wagon and Nora remained behind with Arthur.
“Kieran.. forgive me for sayin' this, but Kieran's time- he never had a lot of it.”
“What do you mean?” Nora sighed and looked ahead to see just how close Mary-Beth was to them and she lowered her voice just a little more to not be heard.
“I didn't want to say nothin' back at camp, but I'm afraid that Kieran disappearing wasn't just him gettin' drunk and gettin' lost. The poor kid didn't exactly live freely now did he.”
“Now I wouldn't-” Nora raised her hand to cut him off.
“He's been livin' on borrowed time, Arthur. I don't want to be negative but if he ain't well liked by you fella's or Colm then what world is there for him?”
Arthur's lips pressed into a tight line and he nodded slowly at the pieces began to fall into place and make sense for him and he let out a sigh at the acceptance of it. “But we gotta remain positive, for his sake.”
“Of course we do, Morgan.” She hummed and steadily began to quicken her pace to catch up with the women. “But don't give up on him just yet, okay?”
“Not at all.”
...
Nora took his hand and laced her fingers through his as they walked out of the theatre, she had enjoyed the evening and had been very vocal throughout the entire performance just how much she had liked it and instead of being annoyed at her constant disruptions, Lem found himself to be captivated by what he had to say.
She led him down an alleyway, it was the quickest way to travel through the city afterall but stopped abruptly by what she had seen on the other end. Quickly she led go of his hand and walked down another route, telling Lem to follow closely behind and to be as quiet as possible.
“Everythin' alright?” He asked but she didn't answer, too focused on getting them out.
He didn't realise she had stopped, not until she grabbed at his arm and pulled him back to her and he let out a gasp as he almost fell into her and the wall she leaned against and slowly he brought his hands up to rest by her sides and against the brick, his heartbeat going quicker at the position they were in. “There's revenue agents down there..” She whispered and he peered down the narrow passage have a look.
She stood stiff until they had disappeared but only found herself relieved when he managed to pull away.
“I-” She muttered, but the words didn't come out. She shook her head out of the thoughts and began to walk again, avoiding any lawmen. “Let's just… go.”
