it's completely astonishing and honestly like a twist of fate to me that all of this is happening because of this grief-stricken loss taylor experienced with the sale of her masters. (and folklore and evermore coming about due to an unimaginable world crisis.) if she hadn't decided to reclaim her work, if she hadn't poured her soul into the process of the re-recordings, i don't believe we'd have these songs, this album. it came about through her journey revisiting and reflecting on all of these things that have happened to her, that she's gone through, that she's hated in herself, that she's loved, that she's created. it's the most vulnerable and visceral and autobiographical record because it is capturing this whole portrait of her, her stories, her unique experiences. she sat down to musically recapture her old work and realized she hadn't dealt with or processed some things yet, that bruises and embraces, that agonies and ecstacies were still there and deserved attention, deserved to be worked through, deserved her voice and an artistic embodiment. and instead of shying away from that impulse, or shrouding it, she ran straight towards it and tore the curtains open. she has taken these heartbreaks of her life and career, and then the excision of her original work, and reclaimed it all, and spun it to gold. it's all the invisible string and it's all her masterful mind. it's astonishing to witness, to have followed her career and keep being impressed and touched by her. to see her flourishing and rising to the occasion every time, to see her shine. she is only herself, there's no one like her, and i could not be more proud of her or more grateful to be alive for it. there is so much love in my heart for her. even if she says we should find another. she is a guiding light.
