Hey faulty, it’s currently 4am and I’m feeling really sick rn aha. Could you maybe do a oneshot of Iida x fem reader where she gets sick at night? Like they’re on a camping trip with the class 1A and they end up having to share a bed? (Cliché ik but I love this trope sue me) and she gets sick at night. I’m talking fever keeping her up until 3am then going to the restroom in the bedroom to puke. She doesn’t want to wake up iida and tries to just deal with it alone.. but she ends up waking iida up anyway when she goes to the restroom. She got so hot that she had to take off her t shirt but left the sweats on. She’s in a white tank top btw. (For plot you’ll see) Iida knocks on the door bc like he’s worried ya know? She says it’s open and then a few min later after talking, she asks him to bring her a black tank top from her luggage bc the one she has on is kinda see through. She’s red from the fever btw. Iida brings it and she turns her back and just slips it off to replace it with the black one. Normally shy but friendly reader would feel embarrassed in changing in front of him (and even being in a tank top) , but at this point, she feels like dog water so she doesn’t care. When she quickly slipped the white tank over her head, iida gets flustered (you know naturally bc u know girl he likes). He’s gonna turn around (or act how iida acts) but he sees some scars on her back for just 2 seconds. This leads to late night caring and reader opening up about trauma from rich parents. (Think like Killua from hxh just for the abuse he went through- parents wanted to make reader really strong and we’re obsessed over it-she’s in a better home now tho with a relative)

iida and fem reader are in the “I kinda like you a lot but I’m not going to do anything bc I love our friendship rn phase.”

Could you make it cute and fluffish and domestic? (I think that’s how u use that word lol) Reader and iida grow closer through it too. I’m sorry this ask is so specific lol, I have a vision in mind. I also think sweet shy fem reader x iida is really cute. (This is not self indulgent at all aha😂)

[ Alright! Sorry this took a bit, but I hope you're feeling better and I hope I did this story justice. It was kind of fun to write, I like the whole "I like you but need to stay friends" trope because it can always grow into something more. Anyways, I tried to make Tenya flustered just enough in this fic. I love embarrassing him. ]

“Are you most certain you’re correct?” Tenya urged, and Izuku held up a piece of paper muttering under his breath. “That’s w-what I counted,” he replied before yelping when Katsuki grabbed the back of his head. “Shut the hell up already!” he snapped before glaring at Tenya.

“Who the hell cares if two of us have to share a damn bed!? It’s your fault for not accounting for this, four-eyes,” he growled, making Tenya frown in response. “I am afraid that I did not anticipate the weather causing our pre-scheduled camping trip to be postponed,” he explained, slightly annoyed by Katsuki’s behavior.

He wanted to make graduation special and insisted that Class A take a camping trip. However, due to the rainy weather and the persistence of his female classmates, the choice to pull over and book hotel rooms for the night was made.

“Yeah yeah, whatever,” Katsuki responded, releasing his hold on Izuku. “Come on you spikey-haired idiot!” he growled at Eijirou who nervously chuckled. “Well, I guess that means Bakugou and I are taking the first room,” he said.

“Best of luck figuring out who shares the one-bedroom suite for the night!” With that, he waved goodbye and chased after Katsuki. “Mineta and I can share a room!” Kaminari announced. “Yes, and Jirou and I can share a room,” Momo said.

“Mm, very well,” Tenya replied, looking at Izuku and Shoto. “I assume you two wish to share a room,” he said. “Oh w-well uh…” Izuku tried to reply but Tenya ignored him. You were sitting on one of the provided chairs in the lobby of the hotel, remaining quiet as you watched the scene unfold.

You coughed and cleared your throat a few seconds later. “Are you okay Y/n?” Tsuyu questioned laying her hand on your back. You nodded. “Uh, yeah just a bit of a sore throat,” you replied, rubbing it to ease the discomfort.

“Everyone please, pair up in groups of two and take a room key!” Tenya announced, and you looked at Tsuyu. “Go ahead,” you said, waving her away. “I don’t care who I spend the night with,” you soon regretted those words when only Tenya and you were left.

“Forgive me,” he said, unlocking the hotel room and turning on the light. “I hope this accommodation does not cause discomfort for you,” he said, gesturing you into the room. He could hear a steady stream of rain hitting the window and vicious thunder rumbling outside.

“I guess this camping trip turned out...s-sour, huh Iida?” you tried to joke, but he didn’t seem to find any humor in your words. Your smile faded and you folded your hands in front of you, focusing on the floor. ‘Well, that didn’t turn out the way I wanted’ you thought with rosy cheeks.

You moved out of the way when Tenya walked into the room, placing the bags on the floor by the bed. He insisted on carrying yours, and it didn’t come as a surprise considering he was a gentleman. “Are you feeling well?” he asked, noticing your reddened cheeks.

“Uh…w-what?” you replied, snapping your head up and trembling when he glared at you. “Are you feeling well?” he repeated. “Um, I uh, y-yeah I’m f-fine,” you choked out, thinking that your sore throat was nothing more than the rain irritating your allergies.

“I see,” he walked over to the bed and asked, “Do you prefer sleeping on the left or right side?” You knitted your eyebrows, unsure what he meant. “Uh, w-whichever side is fine,” you replied but knew your answer wouldn't satisfy him, so you thought of a diversion.

“I wanna take a...a shower!” you exclaimed, trying to ignore his now suspicious glance. The worst part was that you could barely stand looking at his gorgeous eyes. “Very well, you are welcome to freshen up in the shower. I trust you have the appropriate slumber wear, yes?” he asked, adjusting his glasses.

“Uh, y-yes,” you said. Maybe taking a relaxing shower would alleviate your throat soreness. “I’ll um, just g-get them from my s-suitcase,” you said, pointing to it. “Um, t-thanks for carrying it for me, uh, b-by the way,” Tenya nodded.

“I do not believe it would be appropriate to expect a lady to carry her luggage,” he explained, watching you open the suitcase and look through it for your sleeping clothes. Once you gathered everything, you scurried to the bathroom and shut the door behind you.

“What is wrong with me!?” you hissed, walking to the large tub, and turning on the water. You stripped your clothes off and carefully climbed inside, sighing in contentment as the water eased your body’s muscles. You lay there for what felt like hours before carefully climbing back out.

Droplets of water fell from your body, creating a rhythmic pattern as they hit the floor. You drained the tub before walking to the sink. You placed your hands on the counter and looked at your reflection in the mirror. You felt a bit odd and wondered if you had spent a little too much time in the tub.

Well, maybe you’d feel better when you lay down. Once you had dried off, you slipped on a white tank top, a short sleeve shirt, and a pair of sweatpants. “The b-bathroom is free,” you said, walking past the bed. “Hm?” Tenya was sitting on the right side of it reading a book.

“Oh, I see. Thank you,” he replied, closing his book, and placing it on the nightstand near the bed. You closed your eyes, feeling an overwhelming urge to lie down. You pulled back the blanket and sat, pressing one hand against the mattress to feel its firmness.

You looked up when Tenya stood, although he didn’t say anything when he gathered his sleeping clothes and headed to the bathroom. You took a deep breath, coughing softly when you laid your head down and pulled the blanket back over you.

The sound of running water accompanied by the rain and thunder that still bellowed outside helped you drift off to sleep, but a few hours later you woke up sweating. “Ah…” you blinked, feeling exhausted, and reached up to touch your forehead. ‘Why am I so hot?’ you thought, wiping your face dry.

Hearing soft snoring, you turned your head. Tenya was lying beside you in blue pajamas and a matching sleeping cap. His face looked content and part of you wondered what he was dreaming about if he was dreaming about anything at all.

‘Maybe this fever will go down if I keep resting’ you thought as you closed your eyes and tried to relax your body. Unfortunately, you found yourself restless and your fever grew more severe, making you whimper on occasion. This combined with the nauseating feeling growing in your stomach finally made you sit up.

“I’m gonna barf…” you muttered, turning to look at Tenya to ensure he was still asleep. The last thing you wanted was to wake him up, especially after all the planning he had put into this camping trip. Besides, maybe it was better you dealt with this by yourself as you never wanted to burden others. You winced, holding your stomach as you stood.

You swallowed hard, tasting acid on your tongue. You turned to look at Tenya one last time before scurrying to the bathroom quietly. Your breathing was heavy and sweat dripped from your skin so profusely that your clothing stuck to your skin making movement uncomfortable.

As you swallowed again, you slowly pulled your arms inside your shirt. You intended to take it off despite being hunched over the toilet. You sighed in relief when the cool air hit your skin, somewhat thankful you made the choice to wear a tank top underneath said shirt.

At the moment, it didn't matter to you that it was white and see-through. You closed your eyes and wiped the sweat from your brow, your mouth salivated so much it dripped down your chin. You dry heaved, feeling your stomach twist until its contents splashed into the toilet.

When you coughed, Tenya's eyes fluttered open and he turned his head, noticing you absent from the bed. He sat up slowly and grabbed his glasses. He was more than certain the noise that had woken him was you.

It was natural that he wanted to check you were okay, so he stood up and walked to the bathroom, noticing that the door was closed. He pressed his ear against it growing more concerned when he heard heavy breathing, followed by sniffles. He frowned and paused before knocking three times.

You snapped your head up, eyes wide but vision blurry as you looked at the bathroom door. “Y/n, do you require assistance?” he asked, and you latched onto your lip to suppress the gag threatening to come. The inside of your mouth tasted sour, and your throat burned.

You shifted your eyes back and forth, knowing if you didn’t answer soon, he’d likely do something drastic. “I…” Your voice was weak, but you tried to push through it. “I…I don’t know,” you replied, before wiping your eyes with the back of your hand.

Your answer alarmed Tenya, and seconds later he heard a toilet flush followed by running water. “What is the matter? Are you feeling ill? Are you injured?” he questioned, feeling ridiculous for talking to you through a door. You took a deep breath, resting your hand on your stomach.

You looked at your reflection in the mirror, noticing your hair was disheveled and your cheeks red. Your eyes looked swollen and irritated, in other words, you were a mess. “I…just…” Maybe it would be better if he saw for himself.

“Um, t-the door is open,” you said reluctantly. “Very well, may I enter now?” came his reply. “…yeah,” the door squeaked, and you wrapped your arms around yourself before turning to face him. His eyes widened upon seeing you, noting your irritated-looking eyes and reddened face.

He didn’t want to assume anything, but you certainly looked ill. “Forgive me, but you look rather...ill and I do not believe I have a thermometer so I cannot take an accurate measure to confirm or deny any possible fever,” he replied, tapping his chin. “I…I’m not running a fever,” you lied.

He narrowed his eyes and reached out. “Pardon my touch,” he said, pressing his hand against your forehead. Yes, it was a rather outdated method to use, but it would allow him to feel your temperature regardless. “Hm,” he raised his eyebrows and lowered his hand.

“Your forehead is rather warm,” he noted. “May I check your pulse?” You blinked in response, hissing softly when you noticed how dry your eyes felt. “Um…okay?” you replied and gasped when he took your wrist, pressing his thumb against it.

The seconds ticked by awkwardly as you clenched your bottom lip. “Your pulse appears slightly elevated, suggesting possible sickness,” he said, lowering your wrist. “Oh um…” you wrapped your arms around yourself again, suddenly anxious, and self-aware of your see-through tank top.

“Hey Iida,” you said, glancing away shyly. “Yes?” he replied. “Uh…c-could you…get me another tank top? The black one from my luggage?” you asked sweetly, nervously rubbing your upper arms. Tenya knitted his eyebrows together, uncertain why you asked for a tank top when you already had one on.

However, out of curiosity, he glanced down, and his eyes widened. He covered his mouth when he noticed that the fabric of your current tank top was rather…well perhaps it was rude to continue to stare at someone's exposed body.

“Y-yes!” he suddenly shouted, immediately looking away from you. His cheeks glowed a furious red color which was accompanied by a feeling of shame. He knew he should not look at a young lady in such a disrespectful manner. It was improper!

After all, he did not mean to look at you that way, but it seems his mistake caused him a bit of embarrassment. “I would be honored to…” He cleared his throat, trying to ignore the unfamiliar heat that ran through his cheeks.

“I would be honored to assist you, please give me a moment,” he said, promptly turning around and scurrying out of the bathroom. He took deep breaths as he opened your suitcase, searching for the black tank top you requested.

Despite his concern about his fast-paced heartbeat, he believed it to be a natural reaction given his feelings toward you. Of course, he didn't want to ruin your friendship by acting on said feelings. “Here we are,” he said, neatly folding the article of clothing before returning to the bathroom.

“I do hope this is the correct item,” he said, hesitantly holding it out. “Yeah,” you replied, taking it. Unless you were in a relationship or classified yourself as a free spirit there was a certain level of modesty when it came to changing in front of the opposite or even the same sex.

However, given how horrible you felt now you didn’t think twice about turning your back on him and removing your current tank top. Tenya’s eyes widened when he realized what you were doing. His cheeks flushed, and he immediately raised his hand, intent on scolding you, but no words came out.

Despite not anticipating activating his engines, his nervous state made them spark to life and a soft rumbling echoed through the air. “P-pardon!” he stuttered and turned to face the door, feeling his heart accelerate again. “Hm?” You paused and briefly looked over your shoulder at him.

‘Weird…’ you thought, before dropping the white tank top to the floor. A groan escaped your lips as you slipped the black tank top over your head. While he knew it was rude to look at you when you were topless or changing, your groan concerned him enough to make him turn his head.

That's when he noticed the scars on your back, and instead of flushing yet again or feeling embarrassed, he grew concerned. Although your scars looked old and healed, he wanted to know what caused them. It is natural for heroes to receive injuries which then created long-lasting scars.

But yours almost looked…well perhaps it was more appropriate he didn't assume where they came from. He turned his head back, feeling the slightest amount of sweat drip down his face and he almost regretted not having brought a handkerchief to bed.

He cleared his throat, tugging at the collar of his pajama top, and was tempted to undo the first few buttons to cool himself. His cheeks were a deep rosy color, and his engines continued to rumble softly although he hoped they were not too audible.

Just as you finished putting your new tank top on, you heard Tenya clear his throat. “Huh?” you raised an eyebrow when you turned only to stare at his back. “Um...” you stepped closer to him, hesitantly reaching out to touch him.

You stumbled back when he trembled in response and turned to face you, his eyes wide and his face red. You blinked, unsure if you had scared him or if he was beginning to feel sick as well. “Um…a-are you okay?” you asked, your heart pounding in your chest.

“I…” he glanced away. His mind filled with images of those scars, and he lowered his eyebrows in thought. Frankly, he wished to address what he had seen but did not want to appear strange or alarming. Furthermore, he did not wish to force information out of you or make you feel uncomfortable.

He cleared his throat once more and raised his hand, chopping it through the air as he said, “P-perhaps it would be best if we retired to the bed to further address your question.” You knit your eyebrows, not fully understanding him. Then again, did anyone understand Tenya?

Maybe his closest friends, but even they seem baffled by his antics sometimes. You placed your hand on your stomach, somewhat relieved you were feeling better. You shrugged. “Okay?” you replied, following him out of the bathroom. Your fever was still high, and you wiped your brow.

For a split second, you debated running to the ice machine. However, the thought of walking down an empty hotel hallway made you feel uneasy. Come to think of it, you didn’t know how late or early it was, not that it mattered because who knows how long Tenya could take to answer your question.

“Please sit,” he said politely gesturing to the bed. You looked between him and the bed before sitting down as requested. The bed gave a soft squeak when he sat down next to you. The two of you exchanged glances before he cleared his throat.

“I…do not wish for you to think I am being disrespectful when I ask this as I understand personal matters are quite difficult to speak about with those you are not close with,” as painful as it was to admit, despite the many challenges Class A went through together, there was still distance between all of you.

Yes, a few classmates had admitted their personal matters and remorse over certain things or times in their lives. However, he noticed that you tended to keep to yourself. While you were kind and compassionate, there was a shy nature about you, and he had noticed you struggle in social situations before.

“W-what do you mean?” you asked, your voice trembling and your anxiety rising. He was silent for a moment, and you noticed his shoulders were stiff. He shifted his legs almost as though he were uncomfortable, but you swear you heard a soft rumbling.

Was his quirk acting up? You quickly glanced at his face, his eyebrows were lowered and there was an uncertain glance in his eyes. His cheeks were slightly reddened, and his hands were in his lap, but you noticed his fingers were interlocked.

“Forgive me, I believe it would be beneficial if I were to explain more clearly. I…” he took a deep breath, laying his hands flat on his thighs. He cleared his throat again and reached up, tugging at the collar of his pajama top.

“I noticed that there were…rather severe-looking scars on your back.” A chill ran down your spine and you leaned away from him. Your eyes were wide, and he expected you to be angry, but instead a look of hurt and dread spread across your face.

You fisted your hand into your chest and the other into the blanket, keeping silent. Tenya frowned. “I…apologize,” he said, carefully placing his hand over yours but immediately jerked back when you gasped. “I…pardon I did not intend for my touch to-” You shook your head.

“N-no, it’s f-fine Iida,” you replied, despite your heart racing in your chest. “It’s just…” you glanced away, “no...n-no one has asked that b-before.” Then again you weren’t exactly the type to flaunt your body and usually changed in the locker room stall.

You latched onto your lip, the thought of your parents made your stomach twist, and you suppressed a dry heave. “Are you well?” Tenya asked, slightly alarmed, and though you nodded, he wasn’t fully convinced. “Forgive me,” he said, standing up from the bed.

“Perhaps I should not have inquired. I did not wish to make you uncomfortable,” he said, turning with the intent of walking to his side of the bed. “N-no!” you cried out, grabbing his arm. He stumbled back and looked at you bewildered.

“Uh…” You blinked, and your cheeks grew red. You felt so hot you were liable to faint, but you shook your head trying to fight through your anxiety. “S-sorry!” you said, quickly letting go of his arm. You swallowed hard, groaning out of embarrassment.

“Um…I…the s-scars are…” you looked away, rubbing the back of your neck. You felt the bed dip when Tenya sat down again. He wanted nothing more than to comfort you and once again extended his hand, placing it on your shoulder.

Your head shot back, looking at him with wide eyes and parted lips. “Please do not be afraid,” he said, his voice hushed and full of concern. Oddly enough, you smiled and nodded. “Right, s-sorry,” you said, glancing at your lap.

Your throat felt tight, but you forced yourself to speak. “The scars…are from the training m-my parents put me through,” you explained, refusing to lift your head to look at Tenya's expression. You expected him to be worried and maybe even feel sorry for you.

Instead, you gasped when he leaned forward and wrapped his arms around you. He knew it was irrational, and he did not know how you would respond. Although he could not confess the feelings he had for you deep down, he would not stop trying to physically prove it to you.

A part of you wanted to push him away because you weren't used to this type of affection, and because you didn't want him to catch whatever you had. But you couldn't help but melt into his touch. He was aware of the training that was deemed necessary in order to become a worthy and true hero.

However, there were other, unethical training methods such as the ones that Shoto went through that proved to leave long-lasting emotional and physical scars. He could not fathom why certain families pushed their children so hard during training.

Yes, a villain would not be easy on a hero, this much was certain. But to inflict such pain that it left physical scars was unacceptable, and it made righteous anger burn deep within him. However, he took a deep breath, calming himself.

“Forgive me,” he said, pulling away. “I…I do not believe I could help myself,” he stated, bringing his hands to his lap. He knew very well that he let his emotions get the better of him and at this moment, he needed to remain focused.

“Would you favor continuing our conversation?” he asked. “Um…well, my p-parents aren’t heroes but…t-they’re rich and w-when my quirk manifested they...” you paused and curled your fingers inward, ignoring how your nails dug into your palms.

He leaned closer with a serious expression on his face. You closed your eyes, sighing. “They…saw promise in it and…wanted to u-use me as a tool. If their daughter c-could be a hero…then it would boost my family‘s name and...r-reputation.” That spark of anger ignited again, but he held himself back from speaking.

You frowned and opened your eyes. “T-they forced me to train...every day. P-pushed me to my limits, and t-that's why I have...scars on my back. They always t-told me heroes don't feel...pain, they just do whatever it takes to gain f-fame.” Your eyes watered over, but you quickly wiped them.

“The...the m-more pain you can withstand, the more l-love you will receive,” you said, continuing to wipe away the tears on your cheeks. “I-I'm sorry,” Tenya frowned, uncertain how to comfort you. “Please do not apologize,” he said, reaching over to gently grab your wrists in order to pull them away from your face.

“You are likely to irritate your eyes further if you continuously rub them,” he explained before cupping your hands in his own. “I am quite honored that you have shared such memories with me, but are you physically and mentally well?” You glanced down, nodding.

“Yeah…” you replied, tightening your grip on his hands. “I live with a r-relative now….” and you hoped it would remain that way. He leaned closer, making you stiffen out of shyness. “Uh…” you dared to look back up and your face flushed when you locked eyes with him.

“I am…grateful to hear you are safe. Please know that I would never allow anyone, not even the fiercest villain to subject you to such injuries or pain.” While you assumed he was lying, the heroic and loving look in his eyes said otherwise.

And the way he embraced you further convinced you. His arm was tightly around your waist, and when he pulled you close, his opposite hand tangled itself in your hair. Whether it was the fever talking or the fact you were a little touch starved, you wrapped your arms around him in return.

His eyes widened and his heart accelerated. Being this close to you was something he always desired, but knew he could not have. At least not now, but there was always hope for the future. After taking a deep breath, he reluctantly pulled back.

His cheeks burned pink, and he cleared his throat, lifting his hand into the air. “Perhaps it would be best if we retired to sleep,” he suggested, and you turned away shyly. “Oh, uh…” How many hours passed anyway? What time was it? You were tempted to look at your phone but decided against it.

“Please allow me,” he said before standing and walking over to your side of the bed. He pulled back the blanket and shifted the pillows. “Hm,” you looked at him with a blank expression but walked over and sat down.

“Place your legs under the blanket,” he instructed and for a moment, you felt like a young child being tucked in but knew you shouldn’t take it that way. Tenya was just trying to be kind and after everything that happened tonight, it felt comforting to be taken care of by someone.

Once your legs were underneath, Tenya pulled the blanket over you and ensured you were comfortable before walking over to his side. Your face was glowing, and you closed your eyes, wishing your fever to go away. When you felt the bed dip, you mumbled and turned on your side so your back faced Tenya.

He glanced at you but said nothing and removed his glasses, placing them on the nightstand by the bed. Then he lay down with his arms by his sides. His attention was focused on the ceiling for a few minutes, allowing silence and your breathing to ease him to sleep.

Morning came too quickly, and the blinds didn’t stop the sunshine from leaking in. You groaned, fluttering your eyes open. Your head ached softly, and sweat droplets trailed down your forehead. You reached up, intent on wiping it but noticed your arms were stuck.

“Huh?” You looked down, and heat rushed over your face when you noticed a pair of arms wrapped around your waist. Your eyes widened and you turned your head, seeing Tenya’s sleeping face, and realized how heavy his body felt against yours.

You snapped your head back and panicked as you thought of the ways you could get out of this situation. You also thought of how to wake him up without making this awkward. Then again, maybe there was no way you couldn’t make this awkward.

You moved your body and wiggled your arms to jolt him awake. “Iida, Iida!” you hissed out, and he moved his head with a soft mumble in response. A deep breath sounded before he slowly opened his eyes. “Are you…a-awake?” you asked nervously, and he nodded.

“Yes…” he replied, lowering his eyelids. “What is the matter?” You shivered at the sound of his raspy voice. “Uh…y-you um…” How could you explain that his arms were wrapped around you? Sucking a breath in, you tapped his arm with your fingers.

“Hm?” He glanced down, and upon seeing the rather inappropriate position you were in, he immediately pulled his arms back. He stumbled out of the bed, and you jolted up when he hit the wall. “Iida!” you cried out, your eyes wide with concern and your hand extended in his direction.

“P-please accept my most humble apologies!” he frantically pleaded, placing his hands on his thighs, and bowing. His sleeping cap slipped off his head and fell to the floor. However, he resisted the urge to pick it up until you responded.

You blinked, and slowly pulled your hand back only to fist it into your hair. Your forehead still felt hot, but somehow you felt better than last night. Your cheeks burned red, and you glanced away, unsure how to respond to Tenya’s frantic exclamation.

“I-it’s fine,” you said softly before pulling the blanket back and hanging your legs over the side of the bed. “Um…t-thanks,” you said as Tenya leaned back up. “Hm?” he responded, looking at you despite your back facing him.

“F-for last night um…” you rubbed the back of your head, “I t-think it helped,” as talking things out usually did. He looked taken aback but smiled, “I am very honored to have assisted you in such a way and I do hope to be of more assistance in the future,” yes, he wanted you to run to him whenever you had an issue.

But he supposed only time would tell whether that type of trust strengthened between the two of you and despite no longer being the class president, he still wanted to be your closest friend. You turned to look at him, slightly surprised before looking at the floor. “Oh um…s-sure, maybe?” you replied, standing up and stretching.

“I suggest we change our outfits and relocate to the lobby as breakfast is served promptly from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Then perhaps we can depart and resume this scheduled camping trip,” he said, reaching for his glasses and slipping them onto his face.

“R-right,” you replied, walking over to your suitcase, and laying it flat on the floor before opening it. You tapped your lips, deciding what outfit you wanted, unlike Tenya who more than likely already had something picked out.

As the two of you walked to the lobby, there was an awkward silence. Part of you wondered if it was your fault, and your anxious thoughts began. What does he think of you now? Is he going to look at you differently? You clenched your jaw, squeezing your eyes shut.

It was almost like something was about to burst out of you but then you heard a familiar voice. “Y/n!” Ashido called, running up to you. “Excuse me Iida!” she said, looping her arm through yours and dragging you away before you could say anything.

Out of instinct or panic, you held your hand out to Iida. However, due to his past experiences with Ashido, he thought it best not to interrupt whatever conversation she wanted with you. “Hey, Iida!” Uraraka called, she was currently sitting at one of the tables available in the lobby with Izuku.

He smiled and looked at you one last time before walking over. “How was your night with Y/n?” she asked when he approached. He paused, recalling last night's events, and cleared his throat. Uraraka tilted her head, noticing the flush on Tenya’s cheeks.

Izuku noticed this as well and they both exchanged a glance before Uraraka smiled. “What happened between you and Y/n last night?!” she questioned excitedly, and Tenya stiffened. “I…I believe I will gather my breakfast,” he stated, quickly walking away from the table and toward the breakfast area.

“Mm…” Uraraka pouted and scanned the room, easily spotting you and Ashido. “I’ll be right back,” she said to Izuku before walking away. “Your flushed face says everything! So, spill it!” Ashido shouted, raising her arms above her head. “Iida was flushing too!” Uraraka said, approaching your table.

You shivered when she turned to you and smiled. “Is everything okay between you two?” she asked suspiciously, and you shook your head. “N-no, I m-mean yes, I...I mean...” you groaned out of embarrassment. You took a breath, trying to gather your composure.

“I was just a-about to tell Mina t-that nothing happened just…” you rubbed the back of your head, glancing at your lap. “We just h-had a talk,” the girls leaned forward, eager to hear more. “A-and well…” you nervously chuckled. “I’m g-glad that he’s my f-friend.” Ashido sighed. “Seriously!?” she cried out, clearly disappointed.

Uraraka frowned and leaned closer to you. “Nothing happened between you two?” she asked, pouting. You nodded and shrugged, “Sorry?” you said before turning your head to look at Tenya who had gathered a plate of food, and happiness washed over you. ‘Yeah...just a friend’ you thought with a bright smile.

Izuku - Oh boy. Short version: Mew 3 but thinks he's a Shaymin. Long story will swing back to it eventually

Katsuki - Riolu! I had narrowed it down to Riolu, Cyndaquil, or Mankey, all for appearance and vibes and some in the power category. But then it was pointed out that Riolu evolves through /friendship. and I just. The narrative there? Beautiful.

Ochako - Cleffa! They're from space!

Kiri - Sandshrew! I knew he'd be a ground or rock type and Sandshrew's a vibe and they're all pointy, but also because my AU has Kiri and Tetsutetsu as siblings I wanted something to fit both of them as they'd be the same thing, and main Sandshrew is ground but the Alolan one is part Steel for Tetsutetsu

Shoto - Vulpix, still a Chimera so he's both Kantonian and Alolan.

Denki - Pichu. Like how can I not he already gets the Pikachu jokes but Pichu is extra baby and can't yet control the electricity!

Jiro - Noibat! Just fuckin look at it!

Tsu - Froakie. Frog!!! Will eventually be a Greninja and look at the similarities!

Fumikage - Murkrow. Once again. Obvious choice.

Going into the Todoroki drama for a second:

Enji is an Incineroar(Seriously LOOK AT IT).

Rei is an Alolan Ninetails, chosen because 1.) compatible with Incineroar and 2.) can make both fire and ice kids.

We're /kinda/ breaking some of how in-game genetics and abilities work for the kids to match their canon powers.

Toya is a Kantonian Ninetails but he got Snow Cloak instead of Flash Fire

Fuyumi is all Alolan

Natsuo is the opposite of Toya, being Alolan but having Flash Fire instead of Snow Cloak.

Shoto, as mentioned above, is a Chimera. So he got both the Kanto and Alola forms in one.

Swinging back to Izuku's bullshit: Basically Dad for One but with me yoinking from my other Monster AU.

AfO being a very pissed off Mewtwo. Has become the thing he hated and tried to make another Mew, resulting in Izuku. Baby Izuku ends up teleporting his ass out of there and is found by Inko(a Shaymin). Imprints on her as a mother figure and unconsciously uses the transform ability to copy her form. Inko does not know what happened there but that is a baby and it's hers now damn it. Izuku knows Inko isn't his mom but isn't aware that he's not a Shaymin.

Ok. It is currently late and i am distracting myself from the inevitable and impending exam week i have coming up SO

Imagine the following...

It's around  3am at the dorms, people are asleep and Katsuki is having a mental breakdown. Now, this isn't anything new or whatever BUT this current mental breakdown has him freaking out about how much he looks like his mother. 

He sees her. 

Every goddamn time he looks in the mirror. 

He’s fucking sick of it.

Of course, in his state of panic, katsuki has the brilliant, impulsive idea to cut his hair. And with cut, he means shave off the back of it. 

One problem: he doesn’t have a shaver.

Good news tho: he does have a classmate who can create anything.

It’s around 3am and Katsuki is standing in front of Yaoyorozu's door, his fist’s pounding on it. 

It takes a while, but eventually the door opens. a confused, half asleep yaoyorozu looks up at him. 

Fuck. He woke her up

“Bakugou?”

Stupid.

“Are you alright?”

Oh well, whatever

“uhhh-” He must look so dumb right now, “-Can you make something for me?” might as well get straight to the point. “I need a shaver.”

Bakugou is leaning against her door frame at 3 in the morning after just waking her up, his breathing’s a bit short and irregular and he’s...... asking her to create a... shaver?

What on earth-?

“Uhh,, wha-”

“Yknow what? Nevermind. Go back to sleep, Vice Class Rep. Sorry for bothering you.” Bakugou says and turns away.

Sorry 

“Wait! hold on.” she takes a step forward, more awake now. “I can make you a shaver if you want.”

“Really?” she nods “Fuck, sweet. Thank you.”

Thank you

“It’s no problem, may I ask though? What are you going to use it for?” 

“What do ya think? Can’t deal with this anymore.”  The vague gesture he makes towards his face is slightly concerning.

She makes him the razor, he takes it determinately and turns to walk away immediately.

“Do you mind if I come with you? I can help? I doubt it’ll be easy to shave your own head.”

It doesn’t seem like a good idea to leave him alone right now.

 Why’s he even awake at this hour anyway? And why is he acting like this?

It’s like he’s not thinking. Bakugou always thinks.

What if he accidentally hurts himself?

Or worse.

What if he does something he’ll really regret? Like overestimating his hairdressing abilities and accidentally shaving his whole head?

She can’t let him do something like that.

“Come if you want but I don't need help. Don’t think I’ll let you touch me.” 

Good enough.

She follows him.

…

There’s been a low and constant buzz in the room for a bit now. Yaoyorozu really can make anything, it’s impressive.

He’s sitting on the floor of the boys bathroom, yaoyorozu behind him on a bench.

He’s calmed down a bit. His mind now fully focussed on the mirror in front of him and the mirror in the mirror that yaoyorozu is calmly holding to show the back of his head.

“How are you so good at everything you do?” Yaoyorozu asks. “It’s like you've been doing this for years.” 

More blond tufts fall carelessly down his bare back and onto the floor. 

“I sort of have experience.” 

He’s pretty sure growing up with makeup artists and hair specialists counts as experience.

He’s surprised though, positively for once. Out of all the things yaoyorozu could be asking -Why are you cutting your hair at 3am? Are you having some sort of mental breakdown? Do you want to talk about it? What the fuck is wrong with you?- this is her first question. 

He decides he likes her a little more than he did before.

She doesn't even pry with follow up questions. 

She’s moving up on his ‘people I tolerate’ list for sure.

“Do you mind if I take a picture to send to the girls? They’d kill me if I don’t have a picture to show them tomorrow when they find out. Oh, and can I send one to Todoroki? He’d love this.” 

Do you mind if I take a picture. 

She’s asking him? Does that mean she actually wouldn’t do it if he said no?

“Do whatever.”

She smiles.

Three minutes later, the bathroom door slams open. Katsuki nearly takes a chunk of hair off the middle of his head. 

It’s Shoto. Of-fucking-course. 

Icyhot bastard

“Katsuki. Holy shit.” he ran here the moment he got yaoyorozu’s snap. 

He apparently didn't hallucinate it then.

Shoto grins. Wide and full of wonder and mischief. 

Katsuki looks great. He’s nearly done with his hair, just trimming off some last edges with a pair of scissors yaoyorozu also made.

The top of his hair is still its spiky self, his bangs cover his forehead as usual but the back, the back of his head is darker now. His spikes get shorter as they go down until they perfectly fade into an undercut. The undercut wraps around the side of his head, from ear to ear, and he’s got this subtle criss cross pattern shaved into his nape. 

He looks badass as fuck.

Also really hot

“Do me.” Shoto says

w HAT?! Yaoyorozu nearly chokes.

Bakugou grins back at shoto. Just as wide but with twice as much mischief.

“Fuck yeah!” he says

Yaoyorozu should not be here

“How much we cutting?”

“Oh thank god-” yaoyorozu breathes “-I thought you two were…”

“Surprize me.”

Bakugou’s grin somehow widens.

…

“This-” Katsuki says “-is teenage rebellion at it’s finest.”

The low buzz is back as Katsuki carefully maneuvers the shaver along Shoto's head. He’s got one hand holding Shoto’s head in place whilst the other grazes the hair behind Shoto’s left ear. 

He’s already done with Shoto’s right side. The floor is littered with blond, white and red strands. Katsuki’s on the bench next to yaoyorozu now, Shoto’s leaning between his legs on the floor.

“Teenage rebellion? Isn’t that a bit of a stretch? You’re just cutting your hair.” 

They both snort.

“I mean, sure. But if your dad will be pissed off and disappointed about it, it counts as teenage rebellion.”

The buzz stops. Katsuki grabs the scissors for some final touches.

“My mom’s definitely gonna kill me for this one. I think it might just be her last straw.”

Yaoyorozu is, not for the first time here, slightly concerned.

Both boys start snorting and joking.

Bakugou turns Todoroki’s head around by his chin a couple times, carefully surveying his cut.

Todoroki doesn’t have as much shaved as Bakugou does. It’s just both his sides. The shaved part isn’t wrapped around like Bakugou’s, instead todoroki’s got more of a mohawk/ mullet vibe going on except that the back of his hair is still cut shorter. It’s hard to explain exactly what it is but either way it looks good. It looks great even.

Bakugou’s probably a hairdresser in a different universe, a famous one at that.

It’s a bit past 4am when they finally finish cleaning up and they head back to their rooms. They have maybe 2 or 3 hours of sleep left before they need to wake up again.

Yaoyorozy wouldn’t trade it though. 

For some reason, it feels like she was part of something important.

It is early in the morning and Aizawa rises from his sleeping bag to the sound of excited chatter, gasps and exclamations. 

Everything still sounds slightly muffled as usual.

He notes though, immediately, that this chatter does not sound like the usual chatter in the morning. It isn’t a bad version of it though. It just has a… different energie.

Suspicious.

Looking around, it takes him a moment until he notices.

Everyone has, thankfully, moved to their seats in the time it took Shota to get up.

Still, there’ll always be something with this damn class.

Not even Mina, an avid member of the Bakusquad, suspected that Bakugou of all people would follow you around like a lost-puppy and a clear pout drawn on his skin. Not during their first year at UA, and definitely not now in their third.

Yet somehow, the pink girl, Asui, Hagakure, Uraraka, Jirou, and Momo found themselves crammed in utter silence and confusion into the small bathroom entrance before the showers where a pouty Bakugou stood with you while you showered.

Sure, Mina always suspected there was some form of secret friendship going on between the two of you. Yet the minute she watched the blond boy shuffle into the girls bathroom was a sight she couldn’t just ignore. Thus resulting in her gathering all the other girls and listening in on the conversation in nothing but shock.

“You just don’t fucking understand, you always want to play little miss princess.” Bakugou growled, crossing his arms across his chest and leaning against the tiled wall.

He couldn’t see your expression due to your frame being hidden behind the shower curtain, but he could practically feel the smirk plastered across your face as you scoffed at his words.

“Katsu, just admit it— pass me my conditioner please— you actually enjoy being around him. It’s okay.” You joked, reaching a wet arm out as he shoved the container into your hands.

The girls all watched in shock, staring at each other before going back to the scene in shock. Katsu? His first-name, and at that, a nickname? For Bakugou? Who was willingly doing what you asked him to do?

“Yeah but that’s not the fucking point— do you want me to pass you the body wash too?” He froze, waiting for your response as he reached down into your shower caddie and held the bottle in his right hand as he tossed it up and down into the air.

“No not yet baby, continue.”

Watching Bakugou place the body soap bottle down, Mina’s eyes almost popped out the socket. “Baby?!” Hagakure whispered in disbelief.

None of the girls could believe their ears, not even their own eyes could be trusted. This was something they had never expected, not even from a Tsundere like Bakugou. The man who had a problem obeying orders from anyone but himself was allowing a girl to call him out his name twice and do favors for you? It just never ended.

“Half and half bastard thinks he can call me his friend for three years! Always hanging out with me and always trying to make me fucking laugh. He takes me as a joke Y/N, I know it. I know Deku and him fucking talk about me.” He continued to ramble, allowing you to slip in a few sounds to signify you were listening.

“Fucking Icy-Hot just pisses me off because it’s like, who the fuck do you think you are being my friend now—”

“Ah, so he is a friend?” You questioned, a teasing tone playing at your lips as Bakugou began fuming at the thought of the idea.

“What?! No fucking way!” He yelled, a crack erupting from his left hand that was free of any hair washing bottle. The sound caused you to poke your head out of the curtain, face smitten in disbelief and antagonization.

“Look me in my eyes and tell me you don’t think he’s at least some type of friend to you, Katsuki.”

Your words rang through the room, the girls watching as Bakugou’s ears became a hazy red color. He sucked his teeth, glaring at your face with nothing but defeat written in his eyes. It wasn’t like he wanted to admit defeat, but it also wasn’t like he wanted to admit the boy was his friend and that was clear.

Yet watching your smirking face drop with water and your head stick wetly to the back of your scalp, he couldn’t help but obey your orders of responding to your statement.

“Tch, I cant lie if you have that stupid fucking face on.” He muttered with fake anger, turning his eyes away from yours and beginning to read the English words he couldn’t completely understand stuck into the pink bottle.

Your eyes never left his though, adoration written in your eyes as you watched your boyfriend (unbeknownst to the group of girls spying in on the interaction at the time) try to act as if he wasn’t actually fond of having another friend around.

“If my face is so stupid, why does it seem to me as if you want to kiss it?” You teased.

Without being able to stop it, a squeal left Mina’s lips and her eyes widened in utter shock. Following her squeal as well as the round of gasps from the other girls, Bakugou’s head snapped towards the door with his eyes in slits.

If he found out they were spying on him, especially during a moment so intimate for him, they would all be done for. With a hand on one another’s face, all the girls pressed their pajama covered bodies against the bathroom wall and tried to silence their own breathing.

“Who’s there?!” Bakugou yelled, his quirk activating aggressively as he placed the bottle on his hand on the ground and keeping his guard up.

The girls each clasped their hands across their face, Hagakure peeking her head over the edge of the doorway to see if he was on his way down. Instead, Bakugou was still next to your shower stall, eyes glancing around the room feverishly as if nervous they could get caught in any moment.

Technically, you were both already caught but whatever.

Hagakure gave the signal (tapping Yaoyorozu on her shoulder and creating a chain) to signal to the other girls that the coast was clear to look.

When their eyes reached the corner though, they watched as you slipped your head through the curtains and gave the angry boy pouty lips. “Gimme kiss, my big, strong, angry man.”

Your teasing words weren’t the only shock, because the way Bakugou rolled his eyes and smirked into your face as he pulled your lips onto his was what really took the cake for the girls. They couldn’t even utter a single sound, watching as the two of you locked lips and released as if it was nothing.

The only sound filling the room was the small muttering from the whisper you said to him, turning your head back between the curtains and continuing to wash the soap off your body. Bakugou’s face wasn’t visible to the girls since he faced the opposite direction, but the chuckle he slipped out made the hairs on their arms stand up.

“I hope you and your little fucking friends are done spying on my girlfriend and I, Raccoon-Eyes,” his voice announced, making Mina and the other girls’s eyes widen in disbelief, fear, and embarrassment, “because you have three seconds to get the fuck out or I’m blasting you all you hell.”

The threat didn’t fall on loose ears, and the girls found themselves scuffling out the bathroom the minute he finished his words. Bakugou didn’t follow them though, only smirking as he gripped the towel he planned on passing to you the minute you shut the water off.

Mina, on the other hand, clenched her chest as she ran over to the elevator with Momo and Jirou since all the girls split up the moment they ran. The image of the kiss and the conversation passed through her mind, a wide and proud smile covering her naturally pink face.

I can’t wait to tell Kaminari he owes me $20 for thinking he can get a girlfriend before Bakugou does.

BNHA Chapter 320 Short Spoiler Analysis: The Power of Friendship

The battle between Deku Vs. Class A has begun!  Well, it’s technically a battle, but more so a “Catch-A-Deku” situation.  Everyone is trying to use their cool Super Moves and words of friendship to try to convince Deku to come back home.  They’re all reminding him all of times he helped them, so they’re trying to return the favor.  So far, I think half the class was featured here including Shoto who I thought would be saved til the end.  Maybe he will be featured again since he’s one of Deku’s closest friends.  What’s interesting is that the trio that was shown at the end of last week’s chapter, Bakugo, Ochako, and Iida, didn’t have their heart-to-hearts with Deku this week, so I bet you they’re being saved for the end.  Anyway, my left hand is still on the mend, so I’ll keep this one short this week.  I hope it heals soon.

The 2nd Color page is shown this week!  It’s of Froppy this time around!  I think it’s been a while since we’ve seen Froppy featured in a color page, so this is cool to see.  She looks really good here too.  Horikoshi’s art rarely disappoints.  Next week is going to be the 7th BNHA Anniversary color page and the 7th Popularity Poll announcement, so I’m excited for that.  Apparently we’re going to get a lot of BNHA things next week including things for the WHM movie, Team-Up Missions, and the WHM one-shot manga.

I love how at the beginning, Bakugo breaks the 4th wall here by commenting on how Deku’s “art style” underwent a complete change.  It’s both a good taunt on Bakugo’s part and some acknowledgment from Horikoshi-sensei on the change of Deku’s design in general since this arc began.

So, Bakugo did tell the rest of 1-A about Deku’s other Quirks which is good.  I thought that would be the case after remembering that Bakugo read All Might’s OFA archive book.  Bakugo would still look over the other Holder’s Quirks, so he would have knowledge on the 4th-6ths Holders.  Problem is that none of them know of the 2nd and 3rd’s Quirks, so dealing with Fa-Jin will be troublesome.  None of us know what the 2nd’s Quirk is yet though, but I have a feeling we’ll see it in this battle.

Quite a few new Super Moves debut in this chapter!  

Katsuki Bakugo: Shockwave Landmine: Looks like Bakugo creates a blast on the ground so that the blast blows away anything around it like Deku’s Smokescreen.  It’s a big blast too, so Bakugo’s got a lot of range with this thing.

Kiyoka Jiro: Heartbeat Wall: It’s hard to tell, but I think it’s a move where Jiro uses her sound waves to block or stop whatever comes her way.  It could be really effective to stop anyone who can hear I’m sure.

Fumikage Tokoyami: Ragnorok: “Womb”: It’s a like a capturing move that traps anyone within Dark Shadow.  It kind of looks like one of the moves Tokoyami uses in The Strongest Hero Game.  Unless someone has a light Quirk, I can see this move being very effective in capturing villains.

Really, everyone is doing their best to remind Deku of all the good times they had with them. They’re using the power of feels and friendship to bring their sacrificial idiot home.  I like to believe it’s working given how Deku is finally shown crying tears of sadness as he pushes his friends away.  God, please let this kid have a good cry.  How they’ll be able to catch Deku though I still have no idea.

Deku is able to overpower pretty much everyone this chapter.  Even Tokoyami, who is considered one of the strongest in the class, and Momo who created this insanely complex machine to try to put Deku to sleep (how the hell did she make that anyway???).  At the end he’s captured by Shoto’s Heaven-Piercing Ice Wall (which he’s standing on btw and looks so damn pretty 💙☺️), but I doubt that will last.  Deku’s probably going to break right through the ice next chapter.

Speaking of Shoto, since I’m such a simp for him 😔, he has the least amount of dialogue out of everyone having heart-to-hearts with Deku.  But what he says is significant: he basically asks Deku if he can still truly cry and for Deku to share the responsibility with his friends.  I think this is calling back to when Shoto reassured Deku that heroes are allowed to cry back in the Overhaul arc and when Deku meddled with Shoto’s life to save him.  Which is essentially the philosophy everyone’s running on.  Meddling in Deku’s mission is the only way to save him now.

Side note, but I love that Kaminari is the one to tell Deku to take a freaking bath 😂!  Like, we’ve all been telling Deku that, but it’s good to know that Horikoshi and his characters are thinking the same thing.  Now someone has to tell Deku to eat a good meal and take a long nap.  

Also, small detail, but Sato comes in at one point and reminds Deku that they won’t be able to make candied apples for Eri anymore if Deku doesn’t come back.  Deku tells Sato that Eri will be fine without him 😭.  No, Deku, you dumbass!  Eri needs her big bro in her life!  I can’t imagine how sad she must be if she already knows about Deku’s disappearance 😭❤️

I’m also glad to see pretty much every student get some kind of spotlight especially the ones who are more minor characters than the others.  Koda actually gets a mini-monoluge this chapter.  Also, Froppy’s got a lot of focus at the end along with the color page this chapter.  Which, I’m glad to see.  It’s been a long time since Tsuyu got some spotlight.  Really, all the girls need more spotlight.  I assume everyone else will get their shine the next few chapters.  

It’s small and I’m still trying to find the meaning of it, but there’s one panel after Deku escapes from Tokoyami showing him flying through the air in the background and you can see the All Might statue at the forefront.  I want to say this symbolizes Deku being All Might’s successor or something, but I’m not sure.  This one just stood out to me for some reason.  

But yeah, like I said, the last half of the class will probably be featured next chapter.  I think Bakugo will be the last person to talk to Deku since he’s the most important one here.  Remember: Bakugo knows Deku better than anyone.  He will be the turning point I’m positive.  Iida and Ochako will definitely have an impact on Deku, but Bakugo will truly HIT DIFFERENT!  I won’t be surprised if that last conversation leads up to Deku Vs. Kacchan Part 3.  I wouldn’t be mad if that will happen tbh.  Part 2 was about understanding Bakugo and letting his feelings out.  Part 3 could be Deku’s turn.  And of course you gotta have a trilogy to cap it off.  I’m really excited to see what happens next!

have you made a top 10 characters? If not, and if you want to of course, I'd be curious to know your top o^u^o

Wow, this is such a hard question - make me choose between all my precious babies -  like in what way?

Because there are characters whose design I immensely enjoy, but would like to know more around them before I could make up my mind (looking at you Mirko!!!) or characters I find to be so cool, but the story just haven’t given them enough (Sero, Mina, a lot of the class a and b tbh), or those characters shrouded in mystery and intrigue, who could definitely make it on my top 10 once we learn more (Dabi). And then there are the characters who will always be on my top 10 list, because I just simp them that hard... So it could really change day by day, though my top 3 is pretty stable to be honest.

With all this, let’s start...

10. Shinsou Hitoshi - Love his story, with his villainous quirk and trying to fight an unfair system that puts little value on quirks like his. I love his relationship with Aizawa and cats. He’s one of the true underdogs of the story, and it’s really interesting to see him go from a one-trick pony to a hero, but also as he finds his way in, he becomes more open. I’m so looking forward to see him on the hero course (This was difficult to decide btw - other candidates for this slot were: Kirishima, Kaminari, Twice, Mina, Shigaraki)

9.  Jirou Kyouka - She’s been a solid favourite of mine since the USJ arc. Just something about her design, personality, quirk that strikes a chord (pun intended) with me and I’m truly excited whenever she gets some panel time (sadly not enough). I love that she feels like one of the people who is not here by default, but because she chose it between two things she equally loved and was talented at. I really loved seeing her singing animated in S4 and it really delivered. 

8. Endeavor. - I know. I know. He’s a jerk. But... his atonement arc is nothing short of spectacular, and I truly, honestly enjoyed every bit of the story focused on him since Kamino, even though I couldn’t stand him before. As he developed in understanding and started to let go of his pride, parts of his character hidden before started to shine through, like his intelligence and his dry sense of humour. Both the Todoroki-family plot and the post-All Might hero society have been fascinating to watch.  His fight with the Nomu remains one of the most emotional fights in the manga for me. 

7. Midoriya Izuku - In all honesty, it’s sad when the MC barely makes the top 10. The extra-quirk plotline kind of ruined much of my enjoyment of his character, which I used to like a lot. I think he’s become too OP too fast, and also having this one-man-army element took away those things I liked about him the most; his ability to improvise team combos, and his creativity to think around problems even when his quirk is not suited to something. It also doesn’t help that in terms of character development, nothing much happened in a long while. But I feel like this arc could be a turning point. His dynamics with Bakugou remains interesting and I really enjoyed him in the Endeavor internship arc. He’s also been great in Heroes Rising. 

6. Tokoyami Fumikage - I’ve always liked his design and the duality of emotions / personality between Tokoyami and Dark Shadow, how they can feel different things. I think the extreme OP / weak point of his quirk, as well as the difficulties to control it make the character very interesting and unpredictable in fight situations. I was so glad to see more focus on him in the current arc and the OVA. 

5. Yaoyorozou Momo - Best girl. I love her quirk potential. Teamwork is one of the best parts of the story for me, and with her in the mix, there is always an element of surprise - what will she pull out of her sleeves arms? Her intelligence, leadership qualities, and constant struggle with self-confidence also makes he special for me. If only Hori used her better and fixed her stupid costume.

4. Hawks - I’ve always liked his design and the irreverent vibe, but he jumped several rankings up in the current arc. What can I say? He just brings so much sass and cool intrigue into every scene. I love grey characters, a good ethical dilemma, an interesting backstory and I think that coming out of the current arc, Hawks has immense potential to stir the pot in directions that I’d love the story to explore. He’s also been a bright spot of S4 in the anime. 

3. Aizawa Shouta - Aizawa has been one of my faves from the very start. He had a really interesting arc from hardass homeroom teacher with attachment issues to Dadzawa, who is growing into his role and embracing it with his entire being. His quirk is super-interesting with being both incredibly over- and underpowered depending on the situation, which is greatly highlighted in the current arc. His backstory, his friendship with Present Mic and Shirakumo has been a really big emotional driver of the story lately. 

2. Bakugou Katsuki - The gremlin has been one of my solid favorites since the Sport Festival arc and his character development has been phenomenal (OK, he started pretty low). I love his energy, his fighting style, his stupid tsundere act, flashy design - really all of it. Though I have to add that I love the manga version of his character way more than the anime one, where he often becomes a caricature of himself, though he was blast in the Cultural Festival arc. And the glow-up of emotional growth is real. 

1. Todoroki Shouto - Well, I mean that probably was not a surprise to anyone. After all, Shouto-simp is in the title. I really like his design, his quirk, his backstory, his personality, his obliviousness, his sense of humor, his character development of making friends for the first time in his life and it’s so pure and vivid. Plus the way he forges bonds with his mom and siblings and his complex relationship with his dad. His quest to find himself, all the emotional work he does to overcome his trauma and how it links to his growth as a hero is just really amazingly well done. It’s been great starting to see him smile in the anime and his growth in the Endeavor internship arc was great (and I’m still hoping we’ll get something good in the current arc).

BnHA Chapter 256: Fucking Superb You Funky Little Hero Eggs

Previously on BnHA: Aizawa and Mic’s frankensteined best friend Shirakumo, better known to us as Kurogiri, had his memories briefly restored through the Power of Friendship, and was all “YO Y’ALLS BETTER GO CHECK OUT THOSE HOSPITALS” before his head started steaming like a tea kettle and he randomly fell asleep. Aizawa and Mic were all “!!” and Aizawa was all “(ಡ ﹏ ಡ)” and Mic was all “Aizawa are you crying” and Aizawa was like “NO!!!” and then they left the prison and Nao called HPSC Lady who called Hawks and was all “eck-chay ethay ospitals-hay” because Hawks, as you recall, is still a secret agent and all that. Anyway so Hawks was all “EUREKA!!” in his head which doesn’t really add up but hey, and then the chapter ended with Dr. Ujiko dancing in sadistic glee as he watched Tomura get all mad scienced. It was pretty freaky. I could use some wholesomeness right about now so let’s see if this chapter will deliver.

Today on BnHA: Class 1-A shows off the fresh skills they learned during their assorted internships, such as “determination”, “enhanced search techniques”, and “becoming a literal blob of acid.” The Wonder Trio is a particular highlight, and All Might is all “my little baby off to destroy people :’)” as he watches Deku shred a robot to pieces using Blackwhip. We then cut to Aizawa and Mic, who may or may not be planning some rogue vigilante style investigations of the whole Noumu thing, or maybe they’re just brooding, but either way they’re interrupted by Mirio and Tamaki who come running in to get them to stop Eri’s quirk from going haywire, which, yikes. The chapter then ends with All Might handing Deku a notebook full of DETAILED, CATALOGED INFO ABOUT THE PAST SUCCESSORS AND THE FUCKING SIXQUIRKS. We just have to wait two more weeks to find out what that’s all about. 2020’s got some fucking zip to it so far huh.

so it’s about a quarter past 7 right now and it’ll be a miracle if I can have this recap up by 10pm tonight. surprisingly the wait for this chapter didn’t really bother me, but this Sunday/Monday release schedule is really doing a number on my punctuality. but anyways we’ll figure it out eventually. if memory serves, there’s about a 90% chance that this week’s jump will also be a double issue, so that gives me another extra week to get my shit together lol

(ETA: so that wasn’t too far off actually! I think a three-hour turnaround time isn’t bad for 3000 words lol. and actually it was more like two hours of reading/blogging and one hour of editing/photo cropping. anyway so in all likelihood either Sunday or Monday night releases will become the norm, depending entirely on how busy that particular Sunday is. not quite the same as getting the chapter on Friday and having the whole weekend to ruminate over it but we will adjust!)

URARAKA AWESOMENESS!!!!

Uraraka’s annoying crush counter: 8 I think. And this is probably one of the most bizarre of all of them. Honestly, this scene just...freaks me out. Like, what are we meant to take from this scene? That Uraraka’s crush on Deku is like Toga’s obsessive, horrific murderlust? WHY? What does this add to their “romance” (which I now say in quotation marks, because I think romance needs to be mutual, and this has become completely one-sided now.)

My best takeaway from this scene is that Uraraka is not, in fact, in love with Deku, but rather wants to be just like him (and she does! Check out the Imitation essay for more), that she envies him his strength and power and wants to be like him the same way he wants to be like All Might, and that that desire is toxic to her - and therefore, she has to “put her feelings away”. That, perhaps, maybe why this arc really annoys me: not because Ochako “gets in the way” of other ships I like better (I do like Izuocha!) but because the story keeps implying that her relationship with him is toxic and obsessive while dressing it up like a cute love story. Why can’t she just like him and admire him, huh?

This one is intense as shit. I’m so enthralled by it, it’s hard to look away. Intense and really emotional all the way through, with everyone doing their best and still failing - you gotta admit, that’s one of the hardest things to watch in a show. To see characters you love in this much pain, it’s just agonizing. And it’s only gonna get worse. This arc is intense, no wonder I binge-watched through it the first time around.

ROYALTY AU LIST

Momo’s kingdom, Creti, is a small but rich kingdom who is constantly butting heads with the Smoltfire kingdom

Momo is the sole heir to the throne of Creti and takes her job as a princess and future queen very seriously (a little too seriously)

She is in love with Prince Shouto, crown prince of the Smoltfire Kingdom

they often meet in private during balls to have their “scandalous” relationship

The story revolves around them and trying to hide or resolve their hidden relationship for the better of their respective kingdoms

There’s a lot of angst I can’t spoil but both do have betrothed that come in (Momo’s is especially sad)

And Shouto ofc has family issues that he’s dealing with

And Momo’s trying to decide what type of queen she truly wants to be for her people

Her relationship with her parents is kind of distant, as when she was growing up they mostly left her learning and growth to tutors and so weren’t super involved with her unless it was for a social event where they would fuss over her looks and make sure she looked perfectly presentable

Her parents love showing off the richness of their kingdom at social events and so are very particular about how everyone dresses so that their rich can be shown (Momo finds this rather superficial and doesn’t like it, as its flaunting wealth over others and is unnecessary for benefiting the kingdom)

Truthfully her parents distance is what actually contributed to her and Shouto getting into their relationship

Because she met him when she was fifteen and didn’t know she wasn’t supposed to talk to him, so she started a conversation with the lonely looking prince and became his friend. And that friendship led to them falling in love

Her parents didn’t even notice cause they had enough sense (once they realized it would start rumors if they were friends) to hide their friendship. *this also made it easier to hide that they are in love*

Since Momo’s parents were so distant, she latched onto the royal tailor Mitsuki as a mother figure, because she was around Mitsuki so much for fittings that she grew comfortable and safe around her

Mitsuki in return dotes on "Our kingdoms Precious Ponytail Princess~" and her doors are always open for Momo

Mitsuki has a son, Katsuki, that she had out of wedlock, and since Mitsuki wasn't able to marry the father and her family disowned her for having a child, she and Katsuki don't have a last name

When Mitsuki first became the royal tailor, Momo was 8 and was really curious about the Katsuki, since they were about the same age. And she was incredibly curious how someone could be so arrogant and angry all the time

and even though their personalities are complete opposites, they did slowly become friends and have a good understanding of each other (though both attribute it to a lack of other options for friendship)

When they are older, Katsuki is chosen to become Momo’s personal guard/cook/tailor/sparring partner/vulgar best friend/he's practically everything royalty needs all bundled into one

Katsuki is also the first one to find out about her and Shouto’s relationship, and he is beyond pissed

both at her and at himself

He’s mad at Momo, because she was supposed to be the intelligent princess how did she let herself get into this mess??

Mostly though he's pissed he found out, he does not want to be involved in this mess one bit

but at the same time he knows that if he didn't find out, he'd be even more pissed off so begrudgingly accepts that he has to be a secret keeper now

and by secret keeper I mean he saves Momo from being found out countless times

the amount of times he's helped her fix her dress, hair, and make up is alarming

"Katsuki, look at my hair it fell out of its bun! It took two hours to put it in what do I do?!" "I fucking told you to not let him touch your hair but you never fucking listen! Honestly if you can't control dreamboat Mctwo-face then stop fucking sucking his face. If people find out because your hair is a fucking rats nest then it's no chip off my shoulder!" He says whilst fixing her hair.

Honestly Katsuki blames Shouto 100% for this situation.

He's not sure why or how they got into this situation... but he does know Shouto is to blame

Momo and Shouto make out a lot btw, the story is probably going to be M because I'm a cautious person lmao

BNHA Rewatch: Season 1 Episode 6 “Rage, You Damn Nerd”

Episode 6, with the best most hilarious title ever! Tells you exactly what you’re in for.

Finally, Bakugo’s reaction! I seriously was waiting through all three episodes for this. Like a Hitchcockian bomb under the table. Almost literally!

Bakugou .exe has stopped working.

Aizawa starts his pattern of lying to Class A to get them to do their best. He kinda stops doing this after a while, I’m guessing because it doesn’t take lying anymore, just let Wonder Duo go running off at the mouth and they’ll do the job just as well.

Momo’s first line! I think we’re introduced to her in a method meant to make her seem a bit smug and condescending, which is interesting - Momo has a similar trajectory to Bakugou in some ways, introduced as Hot Shit and embarrassment used to break that ego, so this is important to keep in mind.

Aizawa and All Might seemed like they were gonna have a rivalry in early drafts and that got dropped. Anyway, I’m noting the timeline here, as All Might drops the info that this is April 8 (April Fool’s day was Last Week).

The friendship trio forms! Yay! (BTW I ship Uraraka and Iida, if you didn’t know.) We get a quick sum up of life at UA (sob why can’t my school be more like this) and then transfer on to the start of the Battle Trial Arc. Here it goes!

Everyone’s in costume! I figured I’d use my fave Costumes for my ranker today, so I’ll comment on them below. (BTW I loved this arc a lot the first time around. I adored how perfect it feels as a simulated Heroes v Villains exercise.)

All the detailed info on designing costumes and enrolling quirks is another thing I enjoy about BNHA; it feels like such a well-realized world, probably the most fully realized one I’ve encountered in some ways. Horikoshi is so obsessive over details, I love it.

And it actually serves as a means to illustrate character. Since they designed the costumes themselves, everyone’s choices tell you a little something about who they are. I think that both Deku and Kacchan’s costumes are designed to look like All Might’s - both have pointy hoods like his spiky hair, both have metal gear around the neck, etc. They look alike, yet opposite.

Deku’s first costume is so doofy looking, though. And it’s kind of symbolic of his whole issue at this point: he wants too badly to be like All Might, so he covers up his own face with a mask that has this weird, distorted fascimile of All Might’s hair and smile. He really needs to up that confidence! 

This is followed by an adorable sequence of All Might trying to be a teacher and explaining the rules of the BTA. I totally empathize with All Might here; starting at a new job like this can’t be easy. (now I’m thinking about the “Even Idiots Can be Teachers” joke in Episode 52 and laughing)

I wish there was more to comment on with the BTA teams. A few of them feel important. Kaminari and Jirou, of course; one of my ships, they hang out a lot. Also , Ojiro/Tooru, and Tsuyu/Tokoyami get teamed up here (but not Momo and Shoto or Kiri/Mina, so I refuse to call it a shipping pattern). Ashido and Aoyama have a bit of a rivalry going on that starts here. Everyone else’s is pretty random.

And now the fated showdown of destiny! Well, the first time, anyway. I could watch these two fight all day. The whole series could just be them fighting each other back and forth and yelling while YSR plays and I’d be fine.

Bakugou is so salty about Deku! The first time around, of course, he just comes across as an asshole. Rewatching it though, it does seem fairly reasonable to be pissed off that Deku’s apparently been lying to him this whole time (because he doesn’t know about OFA, and Deku didn’t even both to lie to him like he did to his mom), and they are fighting in an organized combat mission, so his behavior here makes total sense in hindsight. Amazing how that character development works.

Uraraka is initially really blase about doing well. in hindsight, I think one of her flaws (at this stage, anyway) was that she basically didn’t know what she wanted and pretty much coasted on Deku (she says as much during the sports festival). She gets over that quickly, but flaws make good characters, so I wanted to point it out.

Incoming Deku “Kacchan Sugoi” moment #1. I love this little twist, too, on the way we perceive Deku. He doesn’t want revenge on Katsuki or something like that. He wants to beat him (”the incarnation of victory”). Deku is not some frail flower needing protection from the world. Don’t let his cuteness fool you.

Deku is so effing cool here, TBH - brilliant, tactical, strong, and brings his rival down to earth by judo-tossing him. Damn, the animation on Baku hitting the floor though, you can feel that impact. No wonder he was so pissed! (Deku’s strategic mind is one of my favorite things about him. Also the symbolism in Baku blasting away part of his All Might mask! 1/2 of the whole!)

“From now on, Deku is the name of my hero!” Once again that trio of foil-y ness between Deku, Kacchan and Uraraka. I wonder if it’s a relic of when the series was originally gonna be them as a trio, a la Naruto/Harry Potter/etc, so they were designed to all foil each other in some way? It’s not as much in the series proper, but it’s interesting nonetheless. Also, You Say Run! Down the bottle! (3rd episode in a row).

In sum, I love this episode. Costumes! All Might teaching! The Battle Trial Arc! Bakugou being crazy (I mostly gush over Deku a lot, but I love Kacchan too. Crater-sized faults and all). And of course, all of the...

BKDK Corner:

Cute flashbacks! Adorable flashbacks are adorable. Little Bakugou is so arrogant; if he was an adult he would be insufferable, but because he’s just a kid it’s cute.

Now to get into a little analysis! This ep marks the first time we actually delve into the depths of Bakugou’s psyche, and basically to sum it up: He’s scared of Deku because he deep down knows that Deku is better than him, fearing that Deku will surpass him, and doesn’t understand why. It’s amazing how the characters introduced at this part of the series as simple archetypes (relatable hero, bully, nice girl, uptight boy) become so complex as the series goes on. Not to be taken at face value.

Uraraka changing the meaning of Deku is another moment that parallels the Deku/Kacchan and Deku/Ochaco dynamics. Again, I’m not sure what that means in the long run, only that paralleling Izuku’s romance subplot with his main rivalry has interesting implications.  

“So, you know Bakugou? He’s kind of mean to you, right?” ‘“Yes but he’s also super amazing special awesome and cool and did I mention amazing? Let me present my eighty page thesis to you on why Kacchan is cool.” OK, exaggerating. But it is interesting how much Deku admires and looks up to Kacchan despite him being such a jerk, so seemingly the opposite of what Deku wants to be as a hero. Basic 2 sides/same coin stuff, of course. Kacchan has all the self-assurance, power and pride that Deku lacks (at least at this point).

Deku speaks fluent Kacchan and predicted exactly what he would do. He knows his S/O so well. 

“I took notes on all amazing heroes, including you” Subtle, Deku. Wanna make your crush a little more obvious? (also check out the BNHA smash comic of this, where he takes it up a notch and reveals what a full-blown stalker he actually is).

This is definitely their lowpoint of antagonism, though. This early part of the series, where they’re both mad at each other. I do think that Deku never really hated Bakugou, though; he hates things about him, but not him as a person. (Deku is way too forgiving.)  Bakugou hated him, but I think that’s fading away in the current timeline (so weird, the last time we saw these two in the manga they were chilling on a couch together and drinking tea. Such a crazy contrast with rewatching this!)

5. Nejire Hado’s!

I’m not sure why, but she has one of my favorite costumes of the whole series. it looks so good on her, it’s simple and tells you who she is.

4. Izuku Midoriya’s (3.0)!

Deku’s third costume is amazing and looks cool. It’s sleek and powerful and badass, somehow taking that dopey baseline design and turning it awesome.

3. Camie Utsushimi’s!

It’s so simple yet so great. Bodysuit, white boots and that awesome Shiketsu hat. Yet it works. It looks cool, even with the boob window.

2. Katsuki Bakugo’s!

It’s so ridiculous and yet so perfect. Exactly what you’d expect Bakugo to design for his outfit. Keeping in character and suitably dark.

1. Ochaco Uraraka’s!

My favorite in the whole bunch. It looks so much like a space heroine super suit - I especially like it with the helmet. It’s all there for her quirk, too - there’s an explanation behind each piece of gear. (BTW, Bakugou and Uraraka had the same designer. They really lucked out!)

Everyone plays a part! Momo made the tracker, Todoroki the ramp, Deku and Iida the Momentum, Deku the plan, and Kiri the friendship power. Also Bakugou the jump.

BTW have I mentioned how sexy Todoroki is in that outfit?

Bakugou may not like it but he has to accept that he needs to be saved.

Ah the big KiriBaku moment. Doesn’t do anything as a ship for me, but I enjoy the friendship nonetheless.

AFO’s personal venom against All Might is part of what makes me think the Dad-for-One theory could be true. Like…I dunno, it seems like such a strangely dedicated, highly personalized loathing.

All Might gives a big damn speech and a final strike…does this end his foe? As if! (holy crap next episode is THAT ONE).

Episode 48 is mostly an episode of exclamations. It’s exciting and dramatic and tense from start to finish, filled with clever strategies from both sides, a brilliant back and forth that all culminates in that wonderful rescue, and with the final battle between good and evil’s ultimate exemplars just revving up to go.

BKDK Corner

Deku in a state of panic, but when he hears Kacchan’s voice, suddenly he can focus. He’s brave.

Deku is so guilty about that incident, it’s a motivator for him as much as it is for Katsuki.

You gotta love that telepathy Deku and Kacchan have. Also, guess who’s been watching Kacchan from a distance as he makes friends since the start of school.

BNHA Rewatch: Two Heroes

And before we start Season 3, one more road stop: The Big Freaking Movie, Two Heroes, last year’s surprise anime blockbuster and HeroAca’s first excursion onto the big screen. Time to share my thoughts and rewatch this very entertaining film!

We open with bald eagles, deserts, and cowpoke themes, to make sure we know we’re in America. We fly into “California” which looks more like Las Vegas (not really complaining, I loooove that they picked my hometown state for this) to find young, white schlera eye-having All Might and his hunky bro David Shield kicking ass and taking names. My state’s name, to be precise. 

Some exposition follows, basically recapping the premise of HeroAca, as I’m reminded of what a stroke of genius Hori had when he decided to make the MC an easy expositor thanks to his geeky knowledge of all things Hero. Deku will always be Captain Exposition.

Melissa! She’s fun and adorable and amazing, and I just love that the first HeroAca movie chooses to focus on a geeky, kind and energetic lady. 

Deku looking back and forth between Melissa’s breasts and All Might’s crotch belt is peak Bi energy.

I’m so jealous that Melissa gets to touch Deku’s hand.

Melissa describing All Might as someone David ‘loves’ is just throwing away all pretence of his heterosexuality, if it ever existed. How the hell did this guy end up with a kid?

Deku blushing around and enthusing over both Melissa and David is max bi energy.

Uraraka’s Annoying Crush Counter: 5

But I’m glad the girls are here! The Bones animators clearly know well what the fanbase wants to see, choosing to give all 6 class 1-A girls at least a cameo in the film, and three of them involved in the main plot. I especially love that, despite being initially pitted against each other, Uraraka and Melissa develop a bit of a womance in the film. OchaLissa ship!

My one major regret about this film is that Mineta is included in the Main Cast. I wish either Mina or Tsuyu had come along for the ride instead - one, they’re better, more lovable characters who could do the same job he does, and two, then we’d have a nearly gender-even cast! (6 Boys: Deku, Katsuki, Tenya, Shoto, Kiri, Kaminari; 5 Girls: Ochaco, Momo, Jiro, Melissa, Mina or Tsu). 

Kacchan makes his appearance! This bit was leaked online before the film’s release and drew quite a lot of ire from BKDK shippers and Bakugo fans. I’m mostly annoyed that Deku is acting OOC here; this is Post-Final Exam Deku, post Hero Killer Deku. Would the guy who punched All Might in the face and Bakugo in the face and the Hero Killer in the face be cowering in fear behind Iida, the guy whose life he saved, from the guy he, only a few weeks ago, punched in the face?! Badass Deku Rights!

Ooh a wild Todobaku moment! I always love when they bicker. Or rather, Katsuki bickers and Shoto ignores him.

OH NO you cannot slap me with the Ingenium OST theme and hardcore feels out of nowhere! God this scene is heartbreaking. I love, however, the cut to the whole of Class 1-A and Melissa when they talk about the future.

AH Bakugo’s feet! Why are we staring up his crotch? So this movie has a lot of KiriBaku scenes, and I should probably talk about them a little, since their friendship is a big deal in S3. They’re the only major HeroAca ship I’ve never shipped as a romantic pairing, per se. Like, in this scene, I see Kiri as Katsuki’s wingman, his bro, the guy who teases him about his obvious feelings from someone, not as the guy he has feelings for.

And for Kiri’s sake, I kinda dislike making him basically Bakugo’s sidekick. He willingly hangs out with the guy, when he wants to, in canon, he doesn’t follow him around and become the butt of the joke, and he has lots of other relationships in canon to draw from, so this dynamic between them doesn’t appeal to me.

Melissa being a quirkless kid like Deku is a great idea for the film, especially since she and David still find a way to help others. They’re a brighter image of the person Izuku could have been. 

Full Gauntlet is pretty cool

Everyone dresses up pretty! The movie suits/dresses are awesome and (almost) everyone looks great. Why Deku is wearing a baggy zoot-suity mess is beyond me, but hey, he sheds it pretty quickly so I’m not complaining. 

If by ‘female assassin’ you mean Beauty Queen. Jiro is gorgeous.

OK the plot ensues! Darn, I could’ve easily enjoyed a movie that was just everyone hanging out and goofing off...ah well, I still love what we got.

This villain does what neither Tomura nor All for One could ever do! Subdue All Might! My god he’s a criminal mastermind!

Deku wants to help, and everyone but Shoto basically piles on the bandwagon afterwards. “And me!” “And me!” “Me too!” “And Me” “Nobody cares Mineta.” I like how they bring up the Powers dilemma, since that’s a big deal in Season 3.

I was pretty impressed by the amount of level grinding our heroes had to do to make it to the top floor. 200 freaking floors, that’s impressive.

Todoroki saved Bakugo! Yay! BTW I love all the tactical planning stuff in this portion, and how lots of characters get to contribute.

10 little superheroes, trying to save the day. Two got lost and then there were eight.

8 little superheroes, escaping from the garden. One saved the others and then there were seven.

7 little superheroes running against the sea, four were trapped by robots and then there were three. (i don’t count mineta). 

Three little superheroes, reached the top and flew; one had to float them so then there were two. (she’s fine, Bakugo saved her. Save to win!)

Two little superheroes, faced with a gun. One fell out the window and then there was - never mind, she saved him, he’s fine.

That was fun. Anyway, to sum, the group gets split up as they work to get to the top, leaving only Deku and Melissa to reach the final boss dungeon. Highlights include the usual Kamijiro bantering, Todobaku making an awesome combat move, Uraraka standing against the coming onslaught of robots in a weirdly dramatic scene, and Reciproburst.

Dislikes include Kirishima being portrayed as not much use and kind of stupid (c’mon, he can do better than that!) and Uraraka not getting to kick any real ass other than floating Melissa and Deku. 

So we make it to Dramatic Plot Twist Tower and find out that David set up the whole thing. I joke, but I actually didn’t see this coming the first time around and was genuinely surprised. I also think it fits really well with the story they’re telling here: about trying to hold onto the past and forgetting to look to the future. I usually measure good plot twists in terms of how they change the story, characters and themes, and this one does.

On the other hand, Sam betraying him is just kind of silly. “Oh no, not...that guy!”

The villain being named Wolfram makes me wonder if there are any secret Buffyverse fans on Bones’ writing staff. With the next movie’s villain be named Hart?

I love how Melissa is a quirkless character who gets to save the day every bit as much as the powered ones. Also, Deku is freaking awesome in this scene, ngl. It has vibes of his fight with Muscular, that “pinned by an unstoppable wall” thing.

And this has vibes of Deku vs Overhaul trying to save Eri. OMG S4 IS GONNA KILL ME. Anyway Deku tries really really hard to save David Shield and does lots of cool leaps and gets beaten up while doing it, enough to earn some of Wolfram’s respect, but is unable to. Fortunately...

But then...duh duh duh! Wolfram has that power-enhancer-plot MacGuffin! Actually, it’s not a MacGuffin now, because now we the audience kind of care about it. It has weight, it’s significant. The characters care about it, but there’s more to it than just being an interchangeable object.

I LOVE how they animated the metal on this guy. That’s Metalbending. OMG. 

Class 1-A showing up and kicking ass as always. I just wanna quibble for a second with how this movie uses Howitzer Impact: a giant mind-blowing explosion in manga canon, a small underwhelming fizzle here.

DUH DUH DUH DRAMATIC PLOT TWIST. Again this one floored me the first time around. My jaw actually dropped when AFO’s theme started playing. Holy crap WHAH How what how. I’m not as excited about this plot twist, as it basically just happens for the sake of being shocking, but hey, that is clearly something AFO would do, and I like seeing him and hearing his theme here anyway, so who cares. Just roll with it!

And now, the reason this movie was made and the premise behind it. We never, in the canon of the manga, actually get to see All Might and Deku fight the same villain at the same time, so the movie I think was made for that purpose: DOUBLE DELAWARE DETROIT SMASH + YSR

OH YOU SAY RUN. You could soundtrack a scene of people sitting around staring at the wall and turn it into the most epic thing ever. I will never get tired of this beautiful, peerless, impossibly good composition. And this is honestly one of my favorite YSR scenes, because dayum, you can’t get much cooler than the Double DD smash. 

Visual storytelling here is on point. David Shield’s image of All Might turning into Deku is perfect.

We end on a sunrise, fittingly, and Long Hope Philia sountracked credits - with a small bit of depressing to end on, as we see David is probably gonna get arrested and All Might can’t do nothing about it.

Two Heroes is great. My quibbles with it are all minor. It’s the perfect first movie for BNHA; it is big and bombastic and action-packed, but more important, it gets what MHA is about at it’s core. BNHA is a story about the prior generation of heroes (and villains) passing the torch down to the next one. You know, like how teachers pass info onto their students in Academia. The movie gets that, and it delivers it with aplomb. It’s a great script, every scene and moment is necessary and everything happens in the right place and right order. It’s a thrill to watch, and I can’t even begin to imagine what insane stuff they’re gonna put in Movie #2 BKDK Boogaloo. Starting S3 tomorrow!

BKDK CORNER:

On a rewatch, I’m a little more OK with this scene, because Deku pretty quickly bucks up and takes the challenge - and he doesn’t exactly cower from Kacchan, Iida just gets in the way. I also love that gay sounding “Kacchan, people are watching!” line in the sub. 

All of Deku’s Love interests where white flowers on their fancy wear.

NGL this is my favorite part of the movie. That is the sweetest, softest, most endearing smile Bakugo has ever had, and Todoroki seeing it and smirking is just perfect. Baku is peak Tsundere in this scene.

BNHA Rewatch: Episode 39 “Game Start”

SEASON 3 FINALLY! Who cares about anything that actually happens in this recap/filler ep because ODD FUTURE!!!!!!! 

I freaking love this OP. If you could somehow marry an anime op I would marry this one. I’ve heard it a million times and I always find something new I love about it. I love the song and the visuals, BTW. Most reactors seem to have it grow on them, slowly. I can’t fathom not loving it to death.

Opening scene is Recap at the Ol Villain Bar with Villain Mom Kurogiri, He recaps Episode 37. Remember that time when Tomura got mad about Stain and cornered Deku at the mall? Member? 

Recap #2: Deku likes All Might and wants to be like him. In case you didn’t know that already.

Recap #3: List off everyone’s quirks in Class A in alphabetical order! Man my eyes are glazing over at this point. I KNOW THIS ALREADY. 

WOW Deku is apparently so gay that Kaminari and Mineta can use him as a reverse beard. 

I like how the girls in Class A kinda get along. Solidarity in a male-dominated field is pretty realistic.

The swimsuits are canon, actually; Kami and Mineta fantasize about them in a volume extra. I kinda love them and how they fit the characters’ personalities pretty well. Ochaco’s is my favorite.

Sorry Kaminari, no heterosexual lust allowed here.

OMG WE’RE SO SPOILED. So many best boys all in one room. I remember the first time I saw this ep, it was on my lunch break at my trash job, and I thought “Thank you, BNHA, for giving me this pleasant image to keep me going through the day. It’s not substantial, I don’t even care.”

This might be the only time in a show I’ve ever seen the girls wearing more substantial clothes than the guys. 

“COME SWEAT WITH US”. OH MY. Join the gay orgy of your classmates Mineta and Kami! You cannot resist!

Now Iida, Deku and Shoto are reminiscing. Recap #4. Remember that time when we had bromance about fighting Stain? Member dat?  (OMG they’re so cute in this scene. Iideku and Tododeku vibes!)

“Hey Kirishima, you got Bakugo here?” “Of course, I have no life outside of being his sidekick, what else would I be doing?” (Sorry for the salt, it just annoys me how filler Kirishima basically does nothing but follow Bakugo around like an underpaid minion.) 

Another filler gripe: How post-Final Exam, punched Baku in the face Deku is apparently still as nervous and afraid of challenging Kacchan as he was back in Episode 3. He’s changed, ya’ll! Character development happened! Anyway, swim race happens. 

Bakugou is now reminding Todoroki that he’s part of the rivalry threesome as well, and Shoto isn’t fighting it this time.

“Swimming” race time! 

WOWZA. (How is Shoto not freezing? wouldn’t that be effing cold?)

BTW I really like the way they animate Ojiro’s tail as he jumps in in this scene; I don’t know why, it just looks good. Obviously Iida isn’t really using Recipro here, because he’d beat Deku at this point. )

This shot is always captioned with “Jealous Todoroki” and that cracks me up.

“Game Start” is silly and kind of dumb, but I kinda love it. It’s not a great episode of BNHA by any means, nor a great start to a season this intense...yet i still get a kick out of watching it. I hope most future BNHA filler is more like this episode; just a fun dumb set of Class 1-A antics with a bit of fanservice and friendship thrown in. Man this recap was easy to write, because basically nothing all that substantial happens other than the collective guy-sexual fanbase squeeing in unison.

( Also, I wanna make a note that Deku got voted as Best Boy of 2018′s anime season, and I want to make a note of how that happened. Step 1: Remind the whole fanbase in the first ep that he’s ripped as eff by throwing him in skintight swim trunks).

BKDK CORNER:

Remember how we’re rivals, Kacchan! “Yeah, of course I do, you damn nerd!” The second part of this scene does show Deku calmly, with that determined expression on his face, accepting Kacchan’s rivalry challenges. I do like that in filler, because that’s Deku at this point. He socked this guy in the face at the final exam, he’s not about to cower in fear of him. Also, you cannot not convince me that Kirishima, ever Katsuki’s wingman, convinced him to go by mentioning that Deku was there in a tight swimsuit.
