considering that lin manuel miranda and chris jackson had been close friends for years before hamilton, do we think lmm wrote washington if not for chris jackson, at least with chris jackson in mind?
I don't have a source, but I do remember chris saying somewhere that lin had told him once "as long as I have a job, you have a job" or something along those lines, which honestly checks out considering they do seem to work on projects together more often than not
and no shade to other washington performers, and keeping in mind I HAVE only seen two other productions apart from the obc, but to me chris is by far the best. like obviously he's an insanely talented person over all but a role tailored to one's specific abilities will of course help highlight those abilities if you get what I mean
so yeah that's my conspiracy theory for today lmao

OKAY NO, “favorite” was insanely good. If you wouldn’t mind, could you please write a part 2 for this fic? Maybe their flirting before something finally happens or maybe another car video with them already dating but no fan knows?
oops ⮕ c.s.
Tumblr media
word count: 1.4k
warnings: swearing
summary: chris slips up, and the secret’s out
a/n: i’m so glad you liked favorite !! i changed the idea just a little bit 🤏🏻 but i hope you like it !!! 🤞🏻
{i’m not the biggest fan of this, but that’s okay. i might rewrite this at some point, but who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️}
everything written is completely fictional. the people i write for are written with characteristics and mannerisms that i made for them, this is in no way depicting what would actually happen in real life.
part one || part two
Before you realized what was happening, Chris Sturniolo had made his way into your heart and stayed there.
The few months after the Q&A video was posted, the two of you continued keeping in touch. You talked to Nick and Matt of course, but Chris was incredibly persistent on answering quickly and asking you questions about yourself. It was only a matter of time before the two of you finally got together.
It had been almost a year since that video, and eight of those eleven months you’d been with Chris. The two of you decided early on to keep your relationship a secret from the fans, but with each video you did with them, more edits of Chris looking at you the way he did nearly blew the secret.
You thought it was funny, how he couldn’t control the way his eyes scanned over you like you were the only thing on his mind. It wasn’t just Chris, though. Nick keeping the bit of you and Chris admitting to be each other’s celebrity crush and favorite triplet in the video didn’t help things, either.
Your new single had only been out for a few weeks, and every single interview consisted of the same question.
“Fans have been speculating that your new single, Rare, is actually a love song about Youtube star, Chris Sturniolo. Is this true?”
You’d laugh and shake your head, your chest aching and your heart pounding as you said the same thing over and over again.
“I think the interpretation of music is up to the listener. If the listener wants to believe this song is about Chris, that’s okay. If they want to believe it’s just a love song I wrote for fun, that’s fine too. I personally was inspired to write about the feeling you get around someone who’s important to you.”
The interviewer would then fake laugh along with you, and thankfully change the subject. You hated lying to your fans, and just lying in general, but it was nice to have something private. You wouldn’t mind going public, persé, but you’d need to talk about it first to make sure he was on the same page.
Chris had spent the majority of his time at your apartment when you were in LA, and any time he wasn’t there, you were at their house. One of those times was right now, Nick and Matt sitting next to you on the couch and watching a show you had absolutely no interest in. Chris had his head in your lap with his eyes facing the screen, your fingers carding through his hair absentmindedly as you pretended to pay attention.
Suddenly, Chris sat up and turned to face you, his hair sticking up in different directions and his eyes wide.
“We should go live.” He suggested, Matt and Nick glancing over from where they were sitting with furrowed eyebrows.
“Why?” Matt asked, reaching for the remote and pausing the show.
Chris shrugged his shoulders and pulled his phone out, glancing at you unamused and running a hand through his hair to fix it. “Why not? We aren’t doing anything anyway.” He said, tapping the Instagram icon and sliding over to go live. He propped his phone up on the Pepsi can on the coffee table and rested his head on his hand. Comments started pouring in almost immediately, many of them about the fact that you were on the couch next to him.
After a few moments of silence, Chris glanced over at the three of you with his eyebrows raised. “Are you guys just going to sit there like bumps on a log, or are you going to join me?” He said, your eyes rolling as you scooted more into frame, Nick and Matt grumbling as they stood up and followed suit. Nick sat on your other side while Matt sat on the other side of Chris, all four of you now looking at the comments flooding in.
Y/N WHO IS RARE ABOUT?????
You chuckled and shook your head. “Rare is a song I wrote about how it feels to be around someone who makes you love yourself.” You said, your answer vague as you noticed the way Chris’ fond eyes flickered to you on the screen for a split second before going back to scanning the comments.
well that’s one way to answer a question i guess
it’s about chris confirmed
idk, the verse about someone with bright eyes like stars seems to scream chris
Nick scoffed and looked at you. “How many times have you been asked that?” He asked. You shrugged your shoulders.
“About ten thousand, but I don’t mind. It’s sweet that people want to know. It’s a happy song, they just want to know why.” You said, Nick pursing his lips and humming noncommittally before looking back to the phone.
The live went on for what seemed like ages, the four of you replying to as many comments as possible, the rapid rate of which they were coming in made it near impossible to read. After a while, Matt pulled out his phone and started scrolling through Tiktok, his volume low and his eyes flickering between his phone and the live.
“We filmed our Wednesday vlog today, it’s one of my favorites so far.” Chris said. “No hints as to what it is, but I hope you guys like it.”
Matt snorted at whatever was playing on his phone, nudging Chris’ shoulder for him to look. He did, his eyebrows furrowed and his tongue between his teeth as he watched. You and Nick continued reading the comments, laughing and responding to a few before Chris guffawed and covered his mouth with his hand at whatever Matt was showing him.
He grabbed Matt’s phone out of his hand and held it in front of your face. “Babe, look at this!” He said, all four of you freezing in place as you registered Chris’ words. Before any of you could react, comments started flying in immediately, whether they were keyboard smashes or just consistently repeated ‘I KNEW IT’s.
“End the live.” Nick mumbled, all four of you reaching for the phone at the same time and knocking it off of the table.
“Shit!” Chris shouted, scrambling for his phone and desperately jamming his thumb onto the screen to end it. It was no use—his live had crashed, and his screen was frozen on the image of all four of you staring wide-eyed at the camera seconds after Chris’ slip up, comments still pouring in at an impressive rate, each comment blurred. In a last ditch effort to fix it, he turned off his phone and dropped it into his lap.
The four of you sat there in silence, the tension in the room thick enough to cut with a knife. You finally turned your head and met Chris’ eyes, his face frozen in a wince.
“Oops?”
The silence only lasted a few more seconds before you completely lost it, hysterical, raucous laughter bubbling out of you as you clutched your stomach. The three of them joined in soon after, the four of you near tears as the reality of what just happened set in.
“How did that even happen?! We were doing so well!” You said through your laugh, Chris shaking his head and wiping at his eyes.
“I don’t even know, it just came out.” He said, the four of you finally calming down enough to catch your breath. “I mean, at least we don’t have to hide it anymore.”
You pulled out your phone and opened Instagram.
“Well, there’s only one thing left to do.” You said, Chris leaning into your shoulder as he watched you create a post. “Help me pick one.” You said, scrolling through your photos before he tapped one. You had taken it ages ago, but it was still your favorite picture the two of you had taken together.
“What should the caption be?” You asked, Chris raising his eyebrows at you and scoffing.
“What do you think?”
You rolled your eyes and typed the lyrics out, making sure to tag Chris before posting the photo and locking your phone.
“And now we wait for the uproar.” You said, Chris chuckling and pressing a kiss to your temple. Nick groaned dramatically, catching both of your attention as he pushed himself off of the couch and headed towards the kitchen.
“Oh God, if you guys are going to be all mushy now, could you at least give a warning?” He said, though you could tell he was only teasing. Your phone screen kept lighting up, notifications pouring in from Instagram.
“Well, it’s out there now, I guess. You’re stuck with me.” You said, Chris rolling his eyes as he wrapped an arm around your waist and lightly leaned his weight onto you.
“Yeah, I guess I am.”
don’t keep your distance, i’m not scared
i’m not gonna fight this, baby you’re rare

What did you think of X-Men Blue Origins?
(I may turn this into a People's History of the Marvel Universe later today, so keep an eye on this space.)
X-Men Blue: Origins and the Power of the Additive Retcon
Tumblr media
(WARNING: heavy spoilers under the cut)
Introduction
If you've been a long-time X-Men reader, or you're a listener of Jay & Miles or Cerebrocast or any number of other LGBT+ X-Men podcasts, you probably know the story about how Chris Claremont wrote Mystique and Destiny as a lesbian couple, but had to use obscure verbiage and subtextual coding to get past Jim Shooter's blanket ban on LGBT+ characters in the Marvel Universe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Likewise, you're probably also familiar with the story that, when Chris Claremont came up with the idea that Raven Darkholme and Kurt Wagner were related (a plot point set up all the way back in Uncanny X-Men #142), he intended that Mystique was Nightcrawler's father, having used her shapeshifting powers to take on a male body and impregnate (her one true love) Irene. This would have moved far beyond subtext - but it proved to be a bridge too far for Marvel editorial, and Claremont was never able to get it past S&P.
Tumblr media
This lacuna in the backstories of Kurt and Raven - who was Kurt's father? - would remain one of the enduring mysteries of the X-Men mythos...and if there's one thing that comic writers like, it's filling in these gaps with a retcon.
Enter the Draco
Before I get into the most infamous story in all of X-Men history, I want to talk about retcons a bit. As I've written before:
"As long as there have been comic books, there have been retcons. For all that they have acquired a bad reputation, retcons can be an incredibly useful tool in comics writing and shouldn’t be dismissed out of hand. Done right, retcons can add an enormous amount of depth and breadth to a character, making their worlds far richer than they were before. Instead, I would argue that retcons should be judged on the basis of whether they’re additive (bringing something new to the character by showing us a previously unknown aspect of their lives we never knew existed before) or subtractive (taking away something from the character that had previously been an important part of their identity), and how well those changes suit the character."
For a good example of an additive retcon, I would point to Chris Claremont re-writing Magneto's entire personality by revealing that he was a Jewish survivor of the Holocaust. As I have argued at some length, this transformed Magneto from a Doctor Doom knockoff into a complex and sympathetic character who could now work as a villain, anti-villain, anti-hero, or hero depending on the needs of the story.
For a good example of a subtractive retcon, I would point to...the Draco. If you're not familiar with this story, the TLDR is that it was revealed that Kurt's father was Azazel - an evil ancient mutant with the same powers and the same appearance (albeit color-shifted) as Kurt, who claims to be the devil and is part of a tribe of demonic-looking mutants who were banished to the Brimstone Dimension, and who fathered Nightcrawler as part of a plot to end this banishment.
Tumblr media
I don't want to belabor Chuck Austen, because I think that Connor Goldsmith is right about his run actually being a camp cult classic in retrospect. However, I think we both agree that the Draco was a misfire, because of how the retcon undermined Kurt's entire thematic purpose as established in Giant-Size X-Men that Nightcrawler was actually a noble and arguably saintly man who suffered from unjust prejudice due to the random accident that his mutation made him appear to be a demon, and because of how the retcon undermined the centrality of Mystique and Destiny's relationship.
X-Men Blue Origins
This brings us to the Krakoan era. In HOXPOX and X-Men and Inferno, Jonathan Hickman had made Mystique and Destiny a crucial part of the story in a way that they hadn't been in decades: they were the great nemeses of Moira X, they were the force that threatened to burn Krakoa to the ground by revealing the devil's bargain that Xavier had struck with Sinister (and Moira), they were the lens through which the potential futures of Krakoa were explored, and they ultimately reshaped the Quiet Council and the Five in incredibly consequential ways.
Tumblr media
This throughline was furthered after Hickman's departure, with Kieron Gillen exploring the backstories of Mystique and Destiny in Immortal X-Men and Sins of Sinister, and both Gillen and Si Spurrier exploring their relationship with Nightcrawler in AXE Judgement Day, Sins of Sinister, Way of X, Legion of X, Nightcrawlers, and Sons of X. One of the threads that wove through the interconnected fabric of these books was an increasing closeness between Kurt and Irene that needed an explanation. Many long-time readers began to anticipate that a retcon about Kurt's parentage was coming - and then we got X-Men Blue: Origins.
In this one issue, Si Spurrier had the difficult assignment of figuring out a way to "fix" the Draco and restore Claremont's intended backstory in a way that was surgical and elegant, that served the character arcs of Kurt, Raven, and Irene, and that dealt with complicated issues of trans and nonbinary representation, lesbian representation, disability representation, and the protean nature of the mutant metaphor. Thanks to help from Charlie Jane Anders and Steve Foxe, I think Spurrier succeeded tremendously.
I don't want to go through the issue beat-by-beat, because you should all read it, but the major retcon is that Mystique turns out to be a near-Omega level shapeshifter, who can rewrite themselves on a molecular level. Raven transformed into a male body and impregnated Irene, using bits of Azazel and many other men's DNA as her "pigments." In addition to being a deeply felt desire on both their parts to have a family together, this was part of Irene's plan to save them both (and the entire world) from Azazel's schemes, a plan that required them to abandon Kurt as a scapegoat-savior (a la Robert Graves' King Jesus), and to have Xavier wipe both their memories.
Tumblr media
Now, I'm not the right person to write about what this story means on a representational level; I'll leave it to my LGBT+ colleagues on the Cerebrocast discord and elsewhere to discuss the personal resonances the story had for them.
What I will say, however, is that I thought this issue threaded the needle of all of these competing imperatives very deftly. It "fixed" the Draco without completely negating it, it really deepened and complicated the characters and relationships of both Raven and Irene (by showing that, in a lot of ways, Destiny is the more ruthless and manipulative of the two), and it honored Kurt's core identity as a man of hope and compassion (even if it did put him in a rather thankless ingénue role for much of the book).
It is the very acme of an additive retcon; nothing was lost, everything was gained.
I still think the baby Nightcrawler is just a bad bit, but then again I don't really vibe with Spurrier's comedic stylings.

In general Ryan gets so mistreated and overhated by the fandom and it makes me sad because I really like Ryan even in my first playthrough :/ I get that the part where he was arguing with Laura about the existence of werewolves when he watched Nick transform and run out the window was kind of dumb but he’s all around a great character who’s brave and helpful and he helped save everyone’s lives in the best ending….
While I don’t agree with all of their actions I can’t bring myself to hate on any of the counselors. They’re all young adults who are stuck in a horrifying and traumatic situation, of course they’re going to be flawed and not perfect. It just baffles me how Travis, Constance, Jedidiah and Eliza do the most horrible things in the game yet people viciously hate on Ryan : (
Oh, the actual adults in the game are absolutely The Worst. (Even Chris, though I think he wants to help, is incredibly negligent at best).
I think there are a few things happening here that can turn people against Ryan (and I'm not saying anyone has to like him as a character, we all have characters we vibe with and ones we don't, but it's worth examining why we don't vibe with some characters especially when those characters are Black or other POC, LGBTQ, and ND-coded).
Ryan is a victim of some of the less compelling writing choices in the game IMO. They don't have anything to do with his character, really, he's generally well-written, but some of the things that were cut from the game, and the way the relationships unravel in the latter half of the game does Ryan kind of dirty.
First of all, his relationship with Chris Hackett isn't fleshed out enough for a lot of players to understand why he's willing to sacrifice so much on the hope that his mentor isn't actually a werewolf (or a deeply irresponsible asshole of a boss). If they'd left in the scene of Chris following up with Ryan about following his dreams and going to animation school and the initial confrontation with Chris that was patched out, where Ryan questions how he hid this from them all this time when he cared about them and Ryan trusted him (literally heartbreaking to watch tbh 🥺), it might have been a little easier for players to empathize with his loyalty to Chris. This kid has no known father, absentee mother, aging grandparents, a sister he clearly feels a lot of responsibility for, and his father figure who he goes to for advice left him in the worst possible situation. Of course he's going to be in denial about that and about him being a werewolf until he sees it for himself, and then Ryan has to kill him. It's so fucking tragic. And he doesn't even get a second to mourn or even react because the Silas plotline kicks in immediately (and they spent all the animated tears budget on Jacob).
Then there's Ryan's relationship with Dylan, which I could (and will) write about for days. Based on the game we got, plus the cut content, I don't think Ryan was ever supposed to have the option to get with Kaitlyn. I think that's a red herring that allows homophobic players to avoid a gay kiss (kind of a fucked up use of a BAMF character and Brenda Song's star power but, ok). I don't think he was ever supposed to get to romance Laura either. But I do think he was meant to be able to either end up with Dylan, or decisively not end up with him. If they'd kept the relationship system that we still have traces of but no actual structure for, then his ability to say 'maybe neither' to Laura wouldn't be something players held against him because it would have a basis in the choices we've made as Ryan (and Dylan) so far. As it stands, it feels like that is unsupported by what's happened in the game when we've had Dylan and Ryan flirting with each other and taking an obvious interest in each other since they were introduced.
Even if you choose the less favorable dialogue options, Dylan and Ryan are never really shown to be truly at odds (with the possible exception of the gun argument, but even that pretty much smooths over in the end). Even if you have them be hard-headed assholes to each other, they still have their heart-to-heart on the way to the radio hut (which I really think was supposed to have an alternative if they had low relationship stats).
Complicating matters is the fact that a lot of people really love Dylan. Obviously I'm one of them, I mean, look at my url and writing choices. I think Miles gives the best performance of the game, hands down (and I think all the actors did really well tbh). He's a great actor (his line reads are flawless and that sassy boy body language? I die.) but he also gets a lot to work with in terms of the script. Dylan is complex and compelling in a way that tends to be highly relatable for most people. He's probably neurodivergent (ADHD) but it's portrayed in a more palatable way for neurotypical people. Plus, as an audience, we are primed to empathize with the person who wants to be wanted, who is afraid of rejection, who has the cute crush that we want to see reciprocated and is trying not to get their heart stomped on. We've all been there! That's a centuries-old trope in drama and literature for a reason. And while Ryan does not owe Dylan reciprocation, we see some pretty clear signs of it at least being possible. So the game sort of dangles it in front of players like we can make that happen with our choices and then makes a half-baked attempt to snatch it away. That annoys people and, I think at least partially because Ryan's race and stoic demeanor (/autism) have people subconsciously primed to view him negatively, they take that out on him instead of the SMG writers who opted for that rather than fleshing out the relationships any further for the latter half of the game.
Like, yes, it's a horror game not a dating sim (Ryan and Dylan dating sim DLC when tho??), but you spend so much time building relationships that end up not mattering to the outcome of the game, I get why that's frustrating for people. It's frustrating for me! I just think being mad at Ryan over it is the wrong take. I still see people saying "Dylan deserves better than Ryan." Dylan and Ryan both deserve to exist in a finished fucking game where we have the option to get them together or not, but blaming whatever happens, or doesn't, on Ryan as a character is kinda trash.

Tumblr media
It was, on many occasions, impossible to fathom how busy your partner and the rest of his group really were. You, along with other partners, friends, staff and the boys’ families got a unique look-in on life as an idol, more so than the fans did, at least to the extent that you were allowed to see them at less than their optimal. For you personally, it was exhausting just being adjacent to it all and that was without all the extra little things your partner picked up and seemed to always be being consumed by.
Chris was busier than most. Especially during comeback seasons, it was almost impossible to have any free time with him, given the amount of time you knew he was spending perfecting, double-checking and supporting everything to do with the art he loved so much.
You loved him, and you loved that he was so passionate and driven and dedicated, to not only his group but his fans but sometimes- sometimes you wished it would all just go quiet. It was selfish really, you knew that, but sometimes everything was far too much for you, even though you were in the background for the most part, supporting from the sidelines. It made you feel sick just thinking about all the weight on Chris’ shoulders, especially when you were feeling like this and you weren’t even the leader of the fourth generation’s best. He was the strongest person you knew, so full of love and support and maybe that was why it was so hard to admit to yourself that he had indeed forgotten about your birthday.
It wasn’t a big deal. At least that’s what you were attempting to affirm to yourself. You were usually quiet about your birthdays, disliking the fanfare that came with ageing and you were still a little traumatised from high school, when birthday celebrations on Facebook were like a popularity battle. You hadn’t remarked on it coming up, hadn’t posted a story, hadn’t tweeted and you didn’t have any grand plans to brag about. Meeting a few friends around the day, plans to have a sleep-in and you’d taken work off so you could just blob around the house for the day before you met friends for dinner. You hadn’t said anything about it to Chris, and he hadn’t mentioned it. A teeny tiny part of you had been holding out - hoping that maybe he was planning to surprise you, maybe he’d be flying back to see you as he had previously. So you hadn’t said anything.
And now it was late in the evening and you had just got home from your birthday dinner, the presents your friends had bought you still wrapped where you’d left them on the counter. They had all asked after him, of course, they were well meaning, you knew they had only been curious but it had made your eyes burn when they pressed about the partner you were still yet to hear a peep from.
None of your friends were entirely familiar with who Chris actually was, something you disliked hiding from them but knew it was for the best - although K-Pop fans were incredibly supportive and kind, there were always exceptions and you weren’t emotionally equipped to deal with fans that were of the opinion you were stealing their men. They all rallied supportively, assuring you he hadn’t forgotten, and if he had it didn’t mean he didn’t love you and that had made something in your chest relax a little- because they were right. Chris did love you, so incredibly much. You knew he did.
So why were you lying on your sofa, legs curled up towards your chest as tears began to stream out of your eyes and into your ears, stinging as they did. The first sob you let out broke the dam and suddenly you were openly, unhappily sobbing your heart out. Curling in on yourself, you brought your hands up to bury your face into them, your forehead coming to rest on the couch cushion as your shoulders shook. Your lungs rasped a little as you took in a deep, shuddering breath, an attempt to quiet yourself but you were unable to jolt yourself from the sad little heap you’d become on the couch.
You hated feeling forgotten. Even when you knew it was unintentional. As someone who committed every single special occasion to memory, or at least to your calendar, it was a sore feeling to know other people you cared immensely for didn’t care quite as much. You knew Chris was busy, you knew how much and you knew why and it still didn’t make you feel any better.
Your anxiety returned with a choking grasp, too warm as it wrapped itself around your insides and you huffed several deep breaths, refusing to succumb to the panic that had begun climbing up your throat. You couldn’t spiral, not now. You drove your palms into your eyes, pressing until you saw stars and then, with an abrupt sniff, you sat up, vision still tear-blurry.
The bath you ran yourself was deep enough that you could submerge into the silence of the hot water, and you’d poured enough jasmine scented shower gel into it that the accompanying bubbles were to the envy of your six year old self. You de-clothed, making sure the water wasn’t going to burn you alive and then you stepped into the tub. The immediate warmth wrapped around your calves and you huffed a breath in and out, sitting down with a little of the awkwardness that comes with bathtubs. The water lapped up around your waist and you shuffled your body to lie properly in the tub, sinking back to rest your neck against the cool side of the bath.
You hadn’t checked the time on your phone before you’d gotten into the bath so you weren’t sure how long you stayed in the water. It was less than lukewarm by the time you pulled the plug and stepped into a fluffy bathrobe, shoved your feet into warm slippers and towelled silently at your hair. You made eye-contact with the mirror, although it was fogged up, you could still see the redness around your eyes and cheeks. You grimaced, picking up a washcloth to clean your face off before you padded toward your room to change into comfortable pyjamas. Once you were relatively warm and dry, you all but flung yourself onto your bed, tugging the Wolf-Chan plushie Minho had presented you with when the boys had met you for the first time towards you. You hugged the plushie close, tucking yourself and it under the sheets as you shut your eyes, willing yourself to fall asleep before your mood grew sadder still.
You woke to an almost incessant buzzing reverberating throughout your quiet apartment. Bleary eyed, face still heavy with sleep and crying, you stumbled into the kitchen, where your phone had apparently been possessed, as it was vibrating so aggressively. You opened it tiredly, headed back to your warm bed as you thumbed through the notifications that were the source of the vibration.
The first thing that caught your attention was your group chat with the boys, that was infrequently used when they were in the country and it was usually- Oh. You had over a hundred notifications just in that group chat alone and as you scrolled through it, they ranged from last night after you’d gone to take your bath, wishing you a happy birthday to telling you to sleep well, to a few minutes ago, where they were yelling at you to wake up and let Chris in.
You were just considering what that meant when Chris’ contact flashed up. You answered without even thinking, relief sinking heavily into your bones and you felt happy tears prick in your eyes.
“Hi baby. I’m sorry to wake you- but can you let me in please? I have caffeine and hot doughnuts-” You were moving, almost blindly, to unlock the door as a smile blazed onto your face.
“Hi.” Then you were in his arms, the drinks and doughnuts briefly in danger as you all but slammed into his chest, burying into him and his free arm locked around you, tight as he held you to him.
“Hey, hey, hey- lemme chuck these on the bench and then I can hug you properly.” Chris teased, his eyes soft and fond as he looked down at you. You released him briefly, closing the door behind the two of you as he moved around you to set his peace offerings down, handing you your most favourite drink before you could get any further.
“I didn’t know you-” He smiled, shier this time as you made an attempt on the doughnuts, grumbling quietly as you burnt your tongue on the hot jam and ignoring the chiding look he gave you. He reached to cup your face, his fingers warm and his thumb ran under your eye, no doubt assessing the redness there and Chris wasn’t dumb, you knew he knew you’d been crying.
“Are you okay baby? You look-” You closed your eyes, relaxing into the warmth of his palm and nodded your head.
“I’m perfect now. You should have said- how long were you waiting for me to wake up?” Chris relaxed a little, although there was still plenty of concern in his eyes. He wrapped you into a hug, ignoring the squeak you let out when your drink was nearly squashed between the two of you.
“It was a secret. It was supposed to be a better surprise than it was- my flight got delayed so I only got in an hour and a half ago. The boys were anxious all day not being able to message you- cuz I knew Felix and Jeongin would somehow manage to spoil it- I’m sorry about that but I really wanted to surprise you. Happy birthday my love, I’m sorry that I didn’t send a message before I left, even just to reassure you I hadn’t forgotten.” He looked down at you, his eyes beseeching and you remembered your volatile unhappiness last night briefly before you released it, sighing quietly as you settled into his chest, leaning around him to set your drink on the counter so it was no longer in the line of fire.
“I forgive you. On the condition that you’re mine the entire time you’re here with me. And you never go silent on my birthday again.” He kissed the top of your head, before turning your chin up so you were looking at him.
“Promise.” And then he was kissing you, his mouth soft and warm and tasting like jam doughnuts.

random wintersberg headcanons in my fic that i just havent written
--karl is constantly working on repairing his factory key, and it infuriates ethan because he sees it as some kind of escapism denial
--karl is incredibly warm all the time due to his biology and ethan is cold due to his, so they complement each other incredibly well
--nothing gives ethan more emotional satisfaction than the moments where he snaps and TELLS karl what's going to happen. karl thinks this is hilarious and adorable and always submits and agrees, which makes ethan feel even better about himself lol.
--karl can sing really well and sings to rose often. he's also good at music, counting and 'conducting' helped him control his powers (this will be explained and written in my backstory fic for him)
--back in the events of resident evil village, i'm lax on how long miranda was posing as mia and she totally banged ethan. karl knows about this as miranda made her ....admiration? of him, fascination? pretty clear, but he doesn't want to tell ethan about it because well, why would anyone.
--in fact, karl protects ethan from a lot of really unpleasant knowledge about miranda in general.
--ethan is nesting partner extraordinaire and thanks to him, the manor eventually is restored to its former glory, it's beautiful and warm.
--ethan's permanent expression is a scowl, usually due to miranda's bullshit, and it's rose and eva who make him smile the most often.
--eva is going to be a big sister, or a mentor, that rose never got in the OG story. eva has been a part of the mold for over a hundred years so she has enough information that she can help rose with her powers. no more being used by chris's team bullshit.
--karl had an ancestor who was a king (more on him in the most recent chapter) and he was a big sexy bisexual and serves as the object of affection for another king's researcher and reporter. history repeats itself or something idk
--ethan is actually legit terrified of losing karl since he's the only lord left, and the only surviving person with a cadou, and the cadou seems limiting and yet necessary for karl to live. this will be increasingly hard for ethan to deal with later on.
--ethan is mildly jealous of ada and karl's relationship, and will probably be more jealous when he learns about karl and donna's past.
that's all I got for now!

Tumblr media
Heavily inspired by Deep End. Uh probably the most toxic/unhealthy piece I've written so far so, fair warning. Also, Reader isn't a cheater (I would never). She's just casually seeing Seungmin.
Heads up: Lee Felix x Fem! Reader, mentions of Kim Seungmin x Fem! Reader, exes to sort of friends with benefits, Felix is unable to move on from Reader post-breakup, incredibly angsty, Felix is very self-deprecating in this, Sub! Felix, Dom! Reader, Mommy kink, dirty talk, nipple play (m. receiving), lots of begging on Felix's part, degradation (m. receiving), praise (m. receiving), biting (m. receiving), mild overstimulation (m. receiving), Possessive! Reader if you squint and handjob (m. receiving).
I will block you if you are a minor and/or have no easily visible indication of your age on your blog if you interact with me in any way.
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Felix felt like such a loser. No, scratch that. He was a loser.
The two of you had broken up 6 months ago now and yet here he is still plagued with thoughts and memories of nothing but, you. The way you used to hold him, that special smile only reserved for him, the first time he told you he loved you, everytime you kissed the very air from his lungs, the first time you two had sex. He can feel it all like it was yesterday.
You were the one who initiated the break up. It torn his heart apart. You just didn't love him the same way he loved you. You simply couldn't. You told him you still cared about him deeply but, that space would likely do the both of you immense good.
Felix is certain that if it wasn't for Jisung, Minho and Chris that he'd completely have fallen to pieces. They kept him sane.
It was still so fucking hard though. Especially since he's been hearing whispers of you and some new guy recently. Seungmin. Felix isn't proud of himself but, he looked up the man online on one of his lowest nights. He wishes he never had. He seemed put together and mature. The fact that he was handsome likely didn't hurt either. He thinks he gets what you see in him. What Felix could never give you. What he could never be for you.
Still, he can't help himself.
He gets out of his bed and begins to throw on some casual clothing. A familiar routine on nights such as ones like this. It's late. He knows it's late but, he has to see you. You've yet to turn him away any time he's shown up at your door unannounced so he hopes against hope that tonight isn't any different. He's already so delicate. He's not sure how he'd be able to handle rejection from you once again.
His heart is in his throat when he tentatively knocks on your door. This is stupid. It's so late. You could be busy. That Seungmin guy could be over and Felix might have just put you in an incredibly awkward situation.
He's so pathetic.
The racing of his heart is made so much worse when you answer. Your hair seems mused from sleep and you look a little confused, likely as to who had the audacity to be knocking at your door at this hour. Warmth floods his face when he takes notice of what you're wearing. The silk robe you have on is thin and barely passes your distracting thighs. He doesn't get why he's getting all shy and embarrassed. You both have seen each other naked numerous times.
"Felix? What're you doing here?"
Just hearing you say his name is enough to make his tongue feel like it lead in his mouth. It's been awhile since he's come to you like this so, he doesn't blame you for being confused.
"I- I couldn't sleep," is all his brain is able to offer. You understand though because of course you do. You can read him like the back of your hand. You move aside, an invitation to enter your apartment which he takes far more eagerly than he'd like to admit. Shutting the door behind you, you lead the way to your bedroom in silence and he follows behind you obediently. Determined to keep his gaze above your shoulder line as he does.
Even though it's been some time, both of you move seamlessly. He kicks off his shoes and socks and, shrugs off his jacket as you crawl back into your bed to wait for him to join you. Once again he forgets how to speak.
You've removed your robe.
Logically, it makes sense that you did. Who sleeps with a robe on? However, Felix is wildly unprepared for the sight of you in a tight-fitting sleeping gown. You've covered your bottom half with the blanket but, he can see the way it clings to your tits and your nipples as clear as day. He swallows before remembering how to walk and, making his way over to your bed and sliding in.
Felix doesn't even need to ask you. You move towards him and spoon him. Wrapping your arm around his waist and your leg around his hip. The silence that envelopes your bedroom is comfortable albeit a little tense with awkwardness. God, he misses when you two would fill the space with mundane, random conversation. You telling him about the bizarre dreams you had and him detailing a new recipe he wanted to try. Something harsh and painful grips his heart at the memories but, he's not going to cry infront of you. He's embarrassed himself enough.
"So, I heard you're seeing someone?" Felix resists the urge to cringe at the question that tumbles out of his mouth. So much for not embarrassing himself further in your presence.
You still behind him for a moment before relaxing and Felix is terrified that he ruined things once again. "Yeah, I've been talking to someone for a few weeks now. It's been mostly casual but, we've gone out a few times."
Bile rises to his throat.
Why is he surprised? He knew about the Seungmin guy. Hearing you confirm it just makes it sting just a little more, it seems.
"What about you? Been seeing anyone lately?"
How does he tell you that he that the last time he went on a date was with you all those months ago? That he still only wants you?
"No, still single as ever," he responds, trying to sound humorous and hoping you don't hear the crippling loneliness in his tone.
"I'm sure you'll find someone, Lixie. You make a great boyfriend," you say to him, giving him a squeeze.
The sincerity in your words makes his throat tighten. You genuinely mean all of that. You even called him by his pet name. He still wasn't great enough for you, though.
A barely whispered, "Thank you," is all he can manage at the risk of fully falling apart in your arms.
The silence feels the slightest bit less awkward and, Felix can appreciate that, if nothing else.
"Felix, could we cuddle another way? I'm kinda getting uncomfortable like this. Why don't you turn around to face me," you suggest nonchalantly.
Felix wonders if these nights that feel like a soothing balm for his shattered heart even mean anything to you. You seem so unaffected by him while he can barely manage to string coherent sentences together. Choosing to keep these thoughts to himself and not test what affection and time you readily give him, he turns around to face you.
God, you're still so beautiful that he forgets how to breathe for a second. You give him a delicate smile as you both settle into your new position, arms wrapping around each other and legs tangled in such a way that he struggles to tell where he stops and you start.
The only issue with this new position is that Felix can see and feel much more of you than before and, his body is starting to react without his consent. He hopes that you can't tell how red his face is right now. He's so fucking pathetic. How old is he? 13? Getting hard from cuddling with a stunning woman.
You're not just any woman though and, Felix knows that. His body likely knows that, too. Your mere proximity is enough to render him defenceless. Still, he doesn't want to make you uncomfortable or have you think that he just came over to have sex. He's not going to lie to himself and say he wouldn't readily jump at the opportunity, but that's not the reason he sought you out tonight.
Felix knows the exact moment you feel him because you immediately tense in his arms. An apology is on the tip of his tongue but, you beat him to the punch, "Are you...hard?"
He's never felt more mortified in his entire life. He's certain of that.
"Yea-Yeah, sorry," he mutters, studiously focusing his eyes over your shoulder.
"Why? We're not even doing anything?" The genuine confusion in your voice makes Felix shut his eyes in a grimace. He knew he was reacting no better than a teenager but, he didn't need you to vocalise it.
"Shit, I'm sorry, Lix. I didn't mean to embarrass you. I know sometimes bodies just react. I wasn't thinking when I asked," you say, sounding immensely remorseful. You never made him feel embarrassed or ashamed about anything. Felix knew that his thoughts were mostly self-inflicted. During your relationship and even now as you two lay here, you've always been nothing but, unconditionally kind to him.
That's part of the reason why he's so irrevocably inlove with you.
"It's okay. Yeah, it just kinda happened. It's been awhile for me so, I think my body just reacted to you being so close to me," he word vomits out to you. Wishing he could swallow the words as soon as they leave his mouth. You didn't need to know that hasn't been with anyone since the last time you two were here like this. He hasn't been with anyone else since he met you.
"Oh. Well, then it makes sense why you'd react the way you did. Why's it been awhile for you? Noone caught the eye of the elusive Lee Felix?" You joke, sending him a good natured smile to assure him you're only kidding.
How does he even begin to tell you that hasn't even entertained the idea of seeing, let alone sleeping with, anyone else? Anytime the desire to jerk off arose, his mind happily supplied him with memories of having his head squeezed by your thighs or you riding him until he'd been reduced to tears from the overstimulation. He didn't want anyone or anything else. He just couldn't.
"It's not like that. I just haven't been interested in seeking anyone out for stuff like that," he responds with a tone he hopes is neutral and believable. Your face shifts to a more pensive expression. He remembers you'd usually have that look when you were hyping yourself up to say something.
"You don't have to answer this is if you don't want to and I don't mean to intrude but, why?"
"I'm just not interested in anyone else that way. I don't want to do that with anyone else."
Your startled expression makes him think perhaps he's said too much but, he's so hard and he still fucking loves you and is maybe not thinking the straightest.
"May I kiss you?" He asks breathlessly.
If he wasn't so high strung right now, Felix would find it comical how you managed to look even more surprised by his request. He is, however, too distracted with the way your lips part and the feeling of your nipples pressed against him, even through your respective clothing.
"Felix, I don't know. I don't want to hurt you or take advantage of you. You know I can't love you in the ways you want me to," you say softly. He can feel your hands shaking where they hold him.
Felix has never been one for self-preservation anyways.
"I asked you. You're not taking advantage of me. I know what this is if we decide to go ahead with it," he responds and prays to whoever is listening that you think the shakiness in his voice is due to how much he wants you. Which is technically not a lie.
You bite your lip is contemplation then and he's thoroughly distracted all over again. Desperately trying to not press his hips against you in search of some relief.
"Okay," you say so quietly that Felix barely catches it before your mouth is on his.
Not that he's complaining but, Felix is caught completely off guard by how ferociously you kiss him. It's like you're trying to eat him alive. One of your hands moves to grab a fistful of his hair, the sharp sting he feels makes him moan into your mouth and grind his cock against you.
He tries not to flush too hard when he feels you smirk against him. You're always so kind and sweet outside of the bedroom that it still sometimes gives him whiplash how different your were during sex. However, Felix was more than happy to do whatever you ordered him to. He just wanted to be good for you.
"Still as needy as always, Lixie," you mutter against his lips when you two separate for air.
"I-I did say it's b-been awhile," he responds a little defensively, avoiding your gaze all the while.
"I'm not insulting you. It's cute. You're cute. I think it's adorable how much of a slut you are. Getting hard from just cuddling? Very cute," you say with clear amusement colouring your tone as you begin to kiss along his jaw and neck.
Embarrassment and arousal twist almost painfully in his gut at your words. All of them shooting straight to his cock, pre-cum smearing his boxers.
"I-I'm your s-slut. Only a s-slut for you," he whines out, shuddering as you kiss and lick and nibble along his neck.
You still at his words and Felix is worried once again that he fucked everything up. However, when he looks down to meet your gaze you look almost..feral. Before he can even process what's happening, you hastily shove your blanket off of the two of you and grip his jaw harshly, your nails digging into his skin, kissing him heatedly once more.
This. This is part of what he missed about being with you. You just got him. You never made him feel less than for his desires. If anything, you encouraged him to be the best possible boy for you.
Your mouth is back on his throat in an instant. Lavishing it with kisses and licks and soft bites once more and, Felix thinks he might lose his mind from your mouth on his neck alone. He tries his best not to shudder too obviously when your hand teases the hem of his shirt. "Still such a sensitive boy huh, Lixie," you muse against his skin as your hand reaches beneath his shirt to draw light patterns with your nails across his abdomen.
At that, he can't help the whine that forces itself out of his throat, his hips jolting up slightly in search of anyway to ease to throbbing of his cock. It's made worse when your hand reaches one of his nipples, barely applying any pressure to it as you brush it.
"Fu-Fuck, please. Please touch me, Mommy. I'll be go-good. It just hurts," he finally begs, his pride and ego aren't nearly big enough for him to be above grovelling for his release and for you to touch him properly.
Felix thinks something snaps in you then.
Your hands impatiently tug at his shirt and he eagerly helps you take it off of him. You look like you want to eat him alive. Like you want to ruin him. He would willingly let you.
You pounce on him then. Taking one of his sensitive nipples into your mouth while your hand reaches up to tug and pinch at the other. Felix couldn't keep his moans and whines down if he tried. Vaguely, he wonders if it's possible for him to cum like this but, you haven't given him permission yet so, he'd rather not entertain the idea. He didn't want to upset you.
His boxers are sticky and cling to him almost uncomfortably now but, he can't bring himself to care as your teeth graze his nipple and send him further into a frenzy. "Mommy," is all his hazy mind is able to conjure up.
You kiss your way up to his throat once more, your hand now dragging downwards towards the waistband of his sweats. Felix is torn between begging once more to finally feel your touch bare on his skin and, letting you do whatever you pleased. Luckily for him, you seem to want exactly what he does as you hastily tug his boxers and sweats down his thighs. He doesn't miss the way your thighs rub together out of the corner of his eye and, his cock jumps at the thought of you being just as into this as he is, how wet you probably were, how much you wanted to sit on his dick right now.
"My easily excitable babyboy," you coo against his throat, your index finger slowly dragging across his tip. Felix doesn't fight the shudder then, hips jolting up towards your hand. His face warm as he watches you touch him, "Mommy please touch me. I'm so hard for you it hurts."
"In due time, baby. It's been awhile, no? I miss playing with my favourite toy," you respond with an amused edge to your voice. He grits his teeth when your finger moves to drag from the base of his cock to the tip this time, glistening with his pre-cum.
Felix can't help the way his cock throbs and heart rate tick up at you calling him your favourite toy. You've always been good at reading him, and he's sure you notice how your words affect him.
He tries his best not to fuck up into your hand when you do finally wrap it around his cock firmly. However, moans and whines spill from his mouth freely. He can't help himself.
"You're so fucking cute. My cute, little slut," you moan against his neck, peppering the skin there with bites and kisses as your hand strokes him incredibly slowly. Both of you know that's not enough to get him to cum but, it's better than nothing as far as Felix is concerned.
"Yea-Yeah Mommy, I-I'm your cute sl-slut," he keens in response, feeling as though the air has been sucked from his lungs when bite down particularly hard on his neck and increase the speed of your hand.
"Are you going to cum for me? Gonna cum just from fucking my hand? Such a desperate boy," you coo breathlessly, making sure to grip him tightly and maintaining the pace you know will leave him in shambles.
His orgasm hits him like a punch to the gut.
He's bucking up into your hand and, his moans are whiney and high-pitched as you continue to stroke him through it. In the fog of his mind, Felix can distantly hear you calling him a good boy and saying how well he's doing for you. As much as he'd love to revel in your praise and affection, your continued stroking is sending him fast into overstimulation territory.
"Ah, Mommy t-too much," he heaves out, attempting to shift his softening cock away from you.
You give him one final stroke before deciding to let him catch his breath. He feels more warm and content than he's felt in longer than he cares to admit. Fatigue causing him to shut his eyes briefly while you shift around from what he's able to hear.
His eyes startle open when he feels you gently rubbing his cum off of his stomach and thighs, your face set in concentration as you do so.
Felix bites back the 'I love you' that rests on the tip of his tongue.
"There, all clean. Do you want anything? Are you okay?" You ask him once you've disposed of the wipes you were using. Your face showing nothing other than concern and affection for him.
"No, I'm okay. Um, thank you," he responds, feeling shy for some reason. As if this is something new for the two of you. Fortunately, you don't press him and move to cuddle him once more. Felix welcomes it. He'll always welcome your affection.
It's in the somewhat comfortable silence that you two find yourselves in that a thought crosses his mind, "Wait, what about you? You didn't cum yet."
"Oh, you don't have to do anything you don't want to. I'm okay,"
"I want to though. I love being the one who makes you cum. I love watching you cum," Felix says in a tone that's perhaps the slightest bit too honest and vulnerable.
You seem to be taken aback by his candidness if the tensing of your body is anything to go by.
He really is the master of putting his foot in his mouth, hey.
"Okay but, only if you're sure,"
Well, maybe putting his foot in his mouth isn't always such a negative thing.

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
i have some...complicated feelings about buck and chris's relationship and how that's portrayed/talked about especially in how it reflects on eddie. i say shit like THATS HIS DAD and THEYVE BEEN COPARENTING FOR YEARS because they HAVE and i think in a lot of ways buck loves chris like he's his and chris CLEARLY sees buck as a parental figure and eddie REPEATEDLY and PURPOSEFULLY puts buck in that role and is comfortable with him in that role.
where i get the ick is when that's pushed into this idea that chris needs buck, that eddie needs buck, in order for their family to be complete. and i don't know that i can articulate this well bc eddie does need buck, and chris needs buck too. but i also think it is so so important to recognize that eddie is a great father (despite a rough start) and that they were (and would continue to be) just fine without him.
i've even struggled with how i've written this relationship in fic, because it can be a tough line to toe.
i suspect that fandom subconciously leans in to this idea that buck can swoop in and save eddie and chris in large part because buck is white and eddie isn't. and i know that i'm icked by it more because of that.
and this is probably related, but i don't think chris would ever start calling buck anything but buck. the idea that a kid needs to call someone dad/mom/whatever for them to be "important" is bullshit. my best friend and i's kids call us by our first names but they also refer to us as their 'other mom'. i've always called my stepdad by the nickname everyone else calls him. buck has been in chris's life a long time; i don't think he's gonna start calling him something different if they finally get together and/or get married.
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
taylor and shannon and lucy on 911. fandom loves to hate any woman that's even vaguely connected to one of the boys. i like taylor because she's interesting, and i appreciate seeing a woman who puts herself and her career first. we see men do that all the time. i don't hate taylor for being selfish. i don't want her with buck, but i think their relationship was SO interesting and was important for buck figuring out what he wants.
i LOVE shannon and i have loved shannon from the beginning. people love to hate her and say she's a terrible mother for abandoning her child. but she was a young woman in an impossible position who had NO help from her partner for YEARS. she tried to do what she thought was best for her son, her mother, and herself. eddie wouldn't GIVE her that space so she TOOK it. and good for her, honestly. did it hurt chris that she left? absolutely. would people judge a father as harshly for doing EXACTLY the same thing? absolutely not. shannon loved her kid, she tried to do her best, but she was pushed well past her breaking point (which eddie is largely to blame for - yes i can love my blorbos and admit they have flaws GASP) and everyone had to deal with the fallout.
lucy is hot and badass and interesting and if you watch her kiss with buck and think anything other than 'fuck, that's hot' then we will simply never agree and i'm not going to argue with you. get off her ass, she's incredible and i want her back.
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
miscommunication based pining. i can do it for a little bit, but my nightmare is a 100k+ fic rated t tagged slow burn and mutual pining. JUST OPEN YOUR DAMN MOUTH! AAAAAAHHHHHH!! i can do SOME pining bc yearning can be really delicious but when the whole reason 2 people are pining for seven billion words is because nobody will just TALK it makes me insane.
23. ship you've unwillingly come around to
oooh this is tricky bc i am a multishipper to my CORE i want everybody fuckin everybody and falling in love all over the place give it to meeeeee. i feel like the only ship i've ever really been AGAINST is thorki, and that's largely bc of people arguing that it doesn't "count" as incest bc loki was adopted, which pisses me the fuck off. the actual ship i don't really have beef with and i'm sure i would read a fic if someone sent it to me and it was good. idk. it takes a lot for me to be like, ew, absolutely not.
(obligatory disclaimer that you're allowed to like shit i don't like. i'm not telling you your opinion sucks, i'm telling you what i think <3)
fandom violence asks <3

"I'm good Lauren, how are you?"
"Great, yeah - a couple of tracks."
"Yeah, yeah, 20 years now. yeah, yeah."
"It's just Chris, really. This is the way he works; you don't get any warning, there's no preamble, he just calls you out of the blue and he - and so he called me out of the blue, I didn't know what it was, and he said: "I'm making a movie about Oppenheimer and I'd like you to play Oppenheimer." You get a couple of those calls, if you're lucky, in your career and so you, you have to sit down and you get a bit overwhelmed, and it's a tremendous and pleasant shock - and then you just start working. Because there's; it was a huge part and he's such a huge, iconic, you know, divisive character, and we all live - whether we like it or not - in, in Oppenheimer's world because of what happened in 45. So yeah; I had six months to, to work on it, before we started shooting."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he's complete - like he's so ambiguous, so enigmatic, so complex as you say, and - but they're to me, always the most intriguing characters to, to play - yes, and, and morally, very, very hard to pin down, you know?"
"Yes. Yeah, yeah. Yes. Yeah. Well like I said I did an awful lot of reading and there is quite a bit of archival footage of him out there which I, which I was studying as well. And then you use the script and I leaned very closely on Chris obviously, because he's written it. But I, I did for this character, go a bit from the outside in as well, kind of on a parallel track as the, as the reading, so you know, studying his walk and his voice and I had to get this very particular physique for him because he had this very iconic silhouette you know; with the, with the hat and the pipe and - it was we -weird actually. Chris sent me a few David Bowie pictures as references for him, you know - yes, and even that Young Americans era; you know that like inc - yeah, incredibly skinny and that amazing tailoring, and so yeah, we spent a lot of time on that, and that helps because when you're a certain shape, it changes how you walk and, you know, how the clothes fit, and so there, there was manifold research."
"I mean it, it always should be fun really, because that's all we do - is put on voices and get - do dress-up really, but it, it can get very serious when you think about the themes that we're sort of wrestling with here, you know? They're the biggest themes of all you know; life and death, war, politics, science - so you try to have some sort of levity on set in between the big, the big stuff. And, you know, the cast is just astonishing in this film; and luckily Emily Blunt who plays my wife, she's a good pal, we worked together before, and she's brilliant at, at keeping it light as well. So yeah, you have fun, but you are aware of, of the kind of seriousness of what you're portraying."
"Great, yeah. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Amazing you know and that - I don't wanna give too much of the movie away because it's not out yet but - but there's a very distinct kind of competitive dy - dynamic between Strauss and Oppenheimer which kind of informs the whole, the whole, the whole film. And, you know, working opposite Downey I mean, he's just extraordinary; he's, he's - he's electrifying to act opposite and he's electrifying in the movie; and he's the most present, available, generous, brilliantly unpredictable actor you could, you could work with. All of them, I mean, every day you'd check the call sheet and say: "Oh my God, look, like Ken Branagh's in tomorrow, and Gary Oldman's in tomorrow", so for me, it's just a dream. That's - that's; what any actor would want; to work with people of that level."
"So I'm keeping it Irish. So I'm gonna play some Lisa O'Neill, who is this - you guys know Lisa, she's, she's an extraordinary singer-songwriter, and we got her to do a version of "All the Tired Horses" on, on Peaky; it was the last piece of music ever played on Peaky. And she just gave this stunning version of the song, and this is from her new album, or the most recent album, and it's called "Old Note" - and it's very beautiful, very emotional."
"Isn't it? It gets me every time. I believe that's her little niece, yeah; she recorded it on her phone, yeah."
"Well music is like a constant companion to me, I'm - I'm obsessed with it. You know, you know, it's what I wanted to do originally, it didn't wor - it didn't work out. And I know I get great - and it just keeps me feeling calm and, or excited or whatever; you know the way mu - music can change your, change your mood. And - and that's why I loved being on this place because you could; it was like sharing music with people and getting the response from it; and I've discovered some of the best music from you guys over the years so it's nice to come on and, you know, do the same."
"I'd love to, I'd love to. Yeah, a little bit."
"Unbelievable, yeah, yeah. Yes, I saw it at the end. Ludwig Göransson did the score - amazing score. Chris is always very experimental I think with, with his music, and things like if you think back to, to Dunkirk and the ticking clock which just propelled the whole movie. And also sound design as you say, knowing when music is important and when it's not important or the power of silence. Exactly, yeah, yeah. So he's just - he's kind of the perfect director Chris. Like, I've been saying this recently because, you know, he's an extraordinary writer, he's an amazing actor director, he, he presents his films like no-one else in the world, in this huge IMAX 70mm format; and then he's amazing with music, so he has every, every facet you'd want in a director."
"Yeah. Yeah. So this is weird; this is my second time playing a physicist so I must have like resting physicist face or something. But I really genuinely don't, you know - it's not my role or job or duty to kind of figure out the science because, you're, you're never going to; there's a tiny percentage of people on the planet that can act - they dedicate their, their lives to it. But for me, what was interesting is to see what that knowledge does to your perspective on the world and that was my kind of my job with Oppenheimer. And, and it was very, very interesting to explore that."
"Yeah. Yes, yeah. Yes, and he was quite naive in many ways. And you know I think; I do believe that he thought aft - you know, that, that this weapon would be the weapon to end all wars and that, that there would be a world governance that would control you know nuclear pro - proliferation; and now we know where we are today."
"Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. A little bit. You know, but if you, you, you can't sort of think about it too much because then it; you lose a sort of freedom or a sort of presence in the scene. You know, and there was a lot of that in this movie, like, even though all this stuff around the Trinity test - you know we were aware of what we were portraying and how that's changed the world and, and it changed history. It, we've, you know, we all live in, in that age, so you can't let it weigh on you too heavily. We didn't talk about the specifics of it too much, you're more focusing on the truth of the scene between the two actors."
"Pleasure. Love to, love to. Thanks guys."

How do you feel about Chris killing the Valkyries? I felt it was very out of character to the character he was shown to be personally, like he wouldn't have it in him to do something so wrong.
How do you feel about how fast Chris forgave Leo? I know by the time he found out who Chris was they didn't have much time to make it all spaced out but I do feel it was a little rushed for how much Chris had against Leo..But perhaps it's just me?
As always, general disclaimer that I haven't done a full rewatch in a while. (Y'know what would negate the need for a disclaimer, is if I just rewatched the show like I've been meaning to for the past two damn years.)
In regards to the Valkyries, I actually disagree, I feel like it's very in-character for him. (It helps that it happens in one of the first episodes, which are typically pretty foundational for characters', well, characters.) Chris is incredibly dedicated to his mission, ultimately dying for the cause, and I don't really think it's out of character for him to be willing to cross a line that others wouldn't (murder) to accomplish his goal. Admittedly, this is in the context of said goal being preventing the world from being subjugated by an evil, ultra-powerful tyrant. It's clearly something that he did not enjoy doing, by any means, but it was a necessary evil at the same time if that makes sense. I will say though that it's a pretty common interpretation that Chris was actively working against Wyatt in the UF, to varying interpretations, but I mean. Very few people are engaged in a war without some kind of blood on their hands and Chris already knew that he could kill the Valkyries by using his powers like that, which wasn't something we'd seen other good characters do before. I don't necessarily think that was the first time that Chris killed someone for the sake of the mission.
At the same though, I think that part of the issue is that Charmed is very much a show that is... I guess black and white with good and evil is the best way to put it. We as the audience don't really have a good framework to interpret Chris's actions in-universe because of that. It also doesn't help that a) it really isn't ever brought up again and b) Valkyries are cast in a weirdly antagonistic role, despite presumably being good beings? Chris also makes mention of an agreement, but we never get anything more about that. Honestly, it's very much an instance of the show not really knowing where they're going with him at that instance.
For Chris and Leo, I'm gonna be honest, I really don't know because I haven't seen those episodes for quite a while. With how season six is written, I'm inclined to agree that it was rushed. At the same time though, I think it's interesting that it's Chris forgiving Leo when he tries. Chris continually shoots him down, but Leo keeps trying, which is a stark difference from Chris's experience with UF!Leo, who was never there for him. It also might be that Chris actually realized that he was holding Leo accountable for things that he hadn't even done yet, and may never do which. Isn't exactly a stellar precedent when the tiny baby he's trying to save originally grows up to be a murderous tyrant, y'know? But you're definitely not alone in thinking it's a bit rushed, I still feel like season six was a bit more by the seat of your pants than it probably should have been.

I don’t wanna sound upset or maybe I’m trying to hold myself back. Ik snw is only allowed 10 eps and that restricts screen time a lot but… I thought the whole purpose for pushing the main trio was so that they can all get the spotlight. But all we’ve gotten is a lot of Chris and Spock both individually and together but like I’m getting crumbs with Una.
You're preaching to the choir, Anon.
I've been incredibly vocal (mostly on discord, a tiny bit on twitter, just not much here on tumblr) about it.
Read more, because I went off
All the interviews, articles, previews for SNW before it came out, sold this show as a Pike, Number One, and Spock show. But when it came to it, there was barely any Una. She was actively written out of a number of episodes (Memento Mori, All Those Who Wander, A Quality of Mercy - are the main culprits), and she wasn't vital to a lot of the others.
She's the first officer. No other Star Trek show in history has had this little screen time from the main cast first officer. Spock, Riker, Chakotay, Kira, T'Pol, Saru/Burnham, even god damn Ransom when the bridge characters aren't even the main ones we follow in Lower Decks (also it's funny because Ransom is voiced by Rebecca Romijn's husband), all have more screen time and more importance than the very first ever Star Trek first officer, Number One.
And it's not about my favourite not having screen time - Effie Trinket is one of my all time favourite characters and she's barely in the last THG book and I didn't get mad over it - it's that this was billed as a show where she would have screen time, and she just...didn't.
If you took her out of Season 1, nothing would change, she hasn't been the driving force of any plot except for her centric - which tbh is less about her (she's been Illyrian her whole life, and we didn't even really see her struggle with hiding it or whether or not she should risk exposing herself to save the crew) and more about a plot point (yes in episode 1, Pike was sent to rescue her, but he could easily have been sent just to rescue the other crew sans Una).
Meanwhile, if you take Chris (most episodes), La'an (Strange New Worlds, all the gorn stuff), Spock (do I even have to explain this one), Christine (Spock Amok/Serene Squall), Erica (Elysian Kingdom/A Quality of Mercy), Hemmer (most of his episodes), or Nyota (Children of the Comet/all her Hemmer friendship stuff) out of episodes, there would be vast differences to the plot and feel of the show.
I think Joseph M'Benga is possibly the only other main cast member who (aside from his centric episode) hasn't been vital to the show.
Una's mistreatment by the show hurts me a lot. She's been in my top 5 favourite Star Trek characters ever since I saw The Cage (and Discovery and Short Treks didn't change that) and I was so excited to see her and Pike work together as Captain and First Officer. AND WE'VE NOT REALLY SEEN THAT?? I think the only time we've actually seen them work together as CO/XO is the Serene Squall mutiny.
I'm really hoping Una has a bigger part in Season 2 (part of me does wonder if it's a scheduling conflict with Rebecca Romijn as she is the most famous cast member, which hopefully changed as filming went on.) because this is ridiculous. I know there’s the argument that they wanted to put more emphasis on the new characters, but Chris and Spock still got hella development, and they were already far more developed that Number One...
Though I can't imagine her arrest will last over one episode (or otherwise we're gonna get entire episodes without her in).

Okay I'm DEEPLY curious about the OCs you told me about, are they part of an original story you're working on? If so, will you tell me about it?
Oh. My. Gosh. AAAHHH you just made my day!!!! Ok, so originally they were Rangers Apprentice OC's but after developing them further I decided I wanted it to be just a regular generic medieval setting so I had more creative freedom for magic and stuff. There isn't really any big over arching plot, instead it's more a slice of life style story with a few adventures here and there. Ideally this would be in webcomic format, but my art skills are limited so unless I find someone to commision, it'll probably never happen. I have a super rough outline written up for kind of an introductory adventure, just something to bring the different characters together and help the audience get to know them. But that'll need some rewriting since it's no longer in the Ranger's Apprentice universe and one of the characters, Leah, is an undercover ranger. I'd be happy to share what I've got on that first adventure with you even though I haven’t quite written it out of the Ranger's Apprentice world yet.
As for world building, that's at a pretty big 0 at the moment ngl. I don't even have kingdom names 😅.
So this intro adventure is all from Blithe's perspective and most things are revealed to the audience as they are revealed to Blithe. But when it comes to the outline and explaining the plot it's easier to tell it from Chris's POV. So here's a super brief rundown of what's gonna go down.
Chris is sure the northern princess is being abused by her father. He wants to help but doesn’t know how and can’t ask anyone in his kingdom for help because they wouldn’t dare risk angering the stronger kingdom. Then he happens upon Blithe and helps him stitch up Beast after a nasty run in with some rock throwing kids. They become friends (Chris leaving out the fact that he's the prince) and Blithe insists he owes Chris a favor. Chris asks Blithe to teach him how someone would go about cheating on a bet or a game of cards or something like that. So Blithe teaches him a few techniques, though he can't imagine what a mild mannered guy like Chris would want with this information. Using Blithe’s techniques the prince is able to trick the king into betting his daughter into slavery. But of course, instead of keeping the princes as a slave, the prince gives her a house safe in the city and does all he can to help her. Through his service he begins to fall in love with her.
Meanwhile, Chris had run up to Blithe one afternoon whooping at the top of his voice that "It worked! It worked!" and swore to repay Blithe for his help. This repayment came in the form of giving Blithe a room in the castle and a job as the court jester which in turn resulted in revealing that he's a prince. But Chris still wouldn't tell him what he needed to bet cheating lessons for. But after over hearing his friend comforting a girl in town, he began piecing things together. After Chris leaves Blithe introduces himself and strikes up conversation with the girl. He gets her to open up and she tells him that Chris had helped her out of a very bad home life (omitting the small detail that she's a princess and Chris is a prince) and was now trying to court her. She confessed that while she was incredibly grateful, she didn't feel the same way about Chris but was going along with his attempts to court her because she feared Chris would think she was ungrateful, or worse, send her back the her father if she didn't return his feelings.
So curently, Blithe thinks Chris used his tactics to cheat a bad father on a bet in order to save the man's daughter and Chris fell in love with said daughter but kept it quite cause. He was a little confused as to why Chris refused to tell him all this himself and why the girl seemed to still be ommiting details and spoke as though she also didn't know Chris was royalty... Soooo, tired of all this confusion and secresy he goes to his friend Leah (Leah is the maid that attends to his room), hoping to make sense of it all. He tells Leah everything to hear her thoughts on it, but plot twist!
Let's switch to the northern kingdom real quick for this next part. The prince of the north returns home from his travels only to find that his father has sold his little sister into slavery. Fiuriose, he kills his father and takes the throne then reaches out to Araluen, whom they have an aliance with, and calls in a favor. Bring home the esnlaved princess. Leah was sent to Chris's kingdom to locate the princess and report back. So she went undercover as a maid in the castle, assuming the princess would be kept as a scullery maid or something in the castle. Buuuut thanks to Blithe, she now knows the princess is living in the city.
So thanks to Blithe, everyone’s cover is blown and drama ensues. In the end the choice is up to the princess, who chooses to go home with her brother and live a quiet life as a commoner in her kingdom. In gratitude the northern prince makes an alliance with the smaller kingdom (which was greatly needed. Leah of course, leaves back to Araluen, leaving many regrets and shattered trust behind.
That was probably WAY more information then you wanted, and as you can tell it's lacking in many details and needs to be tweaked, but I couldn't help it 😅. Thanks for being intrested!

I gotta say I'm surprised (though I probably shouldn't be 🙄) at some of the backlash I've seen towards Grace for being upset.
Like, she very clearly says she knows it's not fair to any of them and she knows she shouldn't be upset because her and Judd weren't together then, but she communicates that she IS upset. Which is totally valid because everything they BOTH knew about their lives just got upended.
And she was so cordial to Wyatt, and left before causing a scene or lashing out at Judd at his place of work and after she has some time to process, she makes an effort to do what she thinks is right.
And for Judd's part, he didn't sit on the info for a month until he had a confirmed paternity test and THEN bring it up to Grace, he was upfront with her (mostly) from the start. And when she says she's angry, he validates her feelings and lets her know it's okay to be upset, and he gives her some space when she needs it. And when she chooses to invite the other lady over so they can talk, he is supportive and reaffirms how much he loves her.
Like, I'm not thrilled that this is the storyline they're doing, especially without a single week for them to enjoy being new parents, but neither Wyatt nor his mom came in with the intention to wreck a family, Judd and Grace both handled the situation incredibly well and communicated in a mostly healthy way, and I'm definitely not hating this as much as I could if it wasn't written as well as it has been so far.
It's okay to feel your feelings even if they aren't always rational, and Grace communicated so well that she knew it wasn't entirely rational but she was upset and Judd allowed her the space to be angry and work through those feelings instead of her suppressing them and exploding later.
Judd and Grace have one of the most solid relationships I've ever been blessed to see on TV and I find it interesting how 911 and Lone Star like to throw out these really big, dramatic, soapy storylines that are so common in dramatic show, but have the characters respond in very normal, human ways and have a less dramatic but more realistic and enjoyable resolution. Instead of huge cheating storylines where it's harder to root for the characters coming back together, you get things like this with Grace and Judd, or Bobby and Athena where she doesn't even consider that he's cheating but knows he's hiding something and digs until she finds out he's sponsoring someone and it leads to a discussion about their marriage and their future and they work it out. And same with the TK/Carlos breakup. These moments where there is no bad guy, just humans trying their best and not always doing the right thing but trying to be better is something 911-verse does so well and what really sets it apart from other shows. And I'll take that ANY day over every character playing musical beds, and being killed off half the time so you can't get invested in any character or relationship.

My #1 post of 2022
"It's not the Buddie show" okay its not the Madney show either but it's still fucking disappointing that we haven't gotten to see their things happen on screen either. People aren't upset because every single episode doesn't fully revolve around Buddie to the exclusion of everything else, they're upset because SEVERAL well-established dynamics have been almost entirely cut and replaced with dynamics that aren't given us any weight or character information/growth/pushing arcs along etc.

K, I guess I need a headcanons tag 'cause I can't shut up.
I just had a thought about the two potential love interests I've given Jill in her primary verse, and how those dynamics have changed and crystallized as I've been writing.
In canon I'm pretty much a hardcore Valenfield shipper (that's Chris, not Claire, but I can totally see Jill/Claire too!) and I initially expected that to carry over to my reimagined verse. But my verse isn't canon, and just a few minor backstory alterations completely changed the context of Jill's personal relationships. Which I guess is how it works in real life: Just think about how every little decision in your life, no matter how minor it may appear on the surface, could affect whether you do or don't meet a certain person, or if your relationship with someone you already know ends up going in a dramatically different direction. I think that's what happened with my Jill and Chris: Basing my version of The Mansion Incident on Jill's campaign in the original Resident Evil (more the 2002 version) meant that Chris spends the entire night locked in a cell and Jill is completely on her own. Meanwhile canon seems to take Umbrella Chronicles as...canon...and has Chris with Jill the entire mission (RE5 in fact does not work as well IMO if that version of events isn't what happened, though I can see that story working with Chris' path too).
If Jill is a recent transfer to Raccoon City and Chris is locked up the entire Mansion Incident, not to mention the fact they had very different (though still traumatic) experiences from each other that night, would they really have had the time to build up such a close bond before everything goes to hell? Friends, yeah, but anything more intimate? Especially given how Chris' trauma manifests? I actually don't know. Though I don't talk about them as much in Jill's bio, I have a lot of headcanons about the "supporting cast", if you will, especially Rebecca and Billy: It is they who ended up having the kind of relationship in my verse that Valenfield is (arguably) in canon.
The other big one was making Ashley a composite of herself, Fiona from Haunting Ground, Rachael from Revelations and even Leon as well as what I thought at the time was an innocent and harmless thought experiment about what Jill would be doing if she was involved in the events of RE4. Eventually Jill ended up being the one rescuing Ashley and, much to my surprise, something clicked with the two of them. An entirely new story I hadn't anticipated or planned for suddenly seemed to write itself (any writer will know that this is not an uncommon occurrence), and this has only continued to evolve through the threads I've had. I think Jill and Ashley are incredibly similar, as strange as that may sound, especially the way I've written them. Ash sees Jill as an inspiring, comforting female presence and Jill sees in Ash a younger version of herself. She immediately empathizes with Ashley's plight, because the way Ash acts externally is how Jill saw herself internally during The Mansion Incident: To Jill, the only thing that separates younger her from Ash is Jill's spec ops training. The other Jill/Ash shippers I've read - all two of them! - make the same or similar argument(s), and they're actually who sold me on this idea. Furthermore, spending the amount of time together an RE4-style plot demands is naturally going to force them to bond to some degree.
There's also the fact that Canon!Jill in a sense becomes an Ashley in RE5, and this is made even clearer in what I understand to be the earlier drafts of the game's plot. As many issues as I have with that (and there are many...), my Jill wound up drawing a ton from RE5!Jill (...much to my chagrin), and that fact pushes them closer too. I get the sense that part of the reason my Chris is so possessive and overprotective of my Jill is in part due to feelings of insecurity, inadequacy and guilt. He feels he let Jill down by "making" her rescue him and sees himself as having failed in his role because of that. Chris also sort of subconsciously feels like he can't compare to Jill and doesn't really deserve her. So due to that, as well as because he believes he owes her a debt and she's basically the only thing keeping him sane and sort-of stable, he shows his love for her by protecting her. Even, and especially, when she doesn't need it. Ashley, effectively, gives Jill what Jill gives Chris: Someone who understands her, supports her, is emotionally available for her and stays by her side. Ashley and Jill soothe and calm each other, and help each other feel safe.

Hi ! i hope you are doing well
7. Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of?
8. What song would make a great fic (to either write or read)?
17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?
I'm still sick so I could be better? x'D But thank you for asking! 💜
7. Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of?
Well, the entirety of Hyperborean tbh? Because I got to write an "eternal winter" post-apocalyptic world with an entirely new social structure and get into the nitty-gritty of their everyday lives in a way that was very interesting. Some of it I would probably have written differently had I written it today, but I'm still very proud of it.
Another is Autonomy which, unlike Hyperborean, was less about creating an entirely new world and more about tweaking the canon Marvel concepts into something that fit a Space AU AND my idea of HYDRA being a parasitic virus instead of an ideology. I had so much fun figuring out how that should work and how to best showcase it in the story.
Because, to be honest, that's the best part? Not the world-building itself but the satisfaction I feel when I can make it relevant to the story. I'm not fond of info dumps so, incredibly often, I have a lot more information than ever makes it into the stories. But that's just a choice I have to make to keep the story well-paced, even if I LOVE world-building.
8. What song would make a great fic (to either write or read)?
Oh dang, a question about music x'D Honestly, for being someone who loves music as much as I do, I'm really, really bad at connecting music to writing or being inspired by music. I used to be back during my teenage years but, somewhere along the way, that just... faded? Not sure why.
ANYWAY. I think I'd have to go with Wicked Game by Chris Isaak. Because I'm a sucker for that kind of push-and-pull and "reluctant to fall in love" trope, especially if it has a hint of danger or drama. Here for it.
(Fun fact: The version of this song that I listen to the most is a cover made by the Finnish band HIM, which, incidentally, is a remnant from the previously mentioned teenage years. I was edgy back then)
17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?
That's tricky. Though I guess the easy answer would be a fic I'm already writing which is literally just for me. Like, I don't think anyone else (aside from my wife) will read it xD
And that's a Barduil AU (as in Thranduil and Bard from The Hobbit) where Thranduil fails spectacularly the first time around and gets a do-over, basically reliving the events of the Battle of the Five Armies — with his memories intact — and do better (and perhaps save a couple of lives on the way).
It's hyper-specific and hyper-catered to my own likes and desires. We'll see when I finish it and if I'll even bother to post it. But do know that I'm having an absolute BLAST writing it. Because it's entirely in Thranduil's POV and that is, quite possibly, my favourite POV I've ever written. He is a delight.
Questions for fic writers
