you had quite a compelling thought going in your tags of that bridglar gifset about loving something that cannot love you back... it would be a pleasure to hear the rest of what you had to say about it
I don't know that my thoughts on this are fully formed quite yet, but I'll tell you what I'm thinking so far and I'll start on a personal note.

I've always been fascinated with mythology and folklore - that fascination informed my artistic practice back when I was properly practising and is a huge part of the reason that I then progressed into the field of history and heritage.
As fascinated as I was, though, I found that I didn't actually believe in any of it which got me thinking - what does inspire that kind of feeling in me? That belief? That sort of religious-level ecstasy?
The simple answer was the great outdoors, the landscape itself.
I ascribed my own personal mythology to the landscape around me and ended up pursuing a literal artistic pilgrimage through key locations in the Highlands near my home back in Scotland which culminated in climbing my own personal 'Holy Mountain'.
(That was literally a decade ago and, let me tell you, my toes still haven't fully recovered from all that hiking!)

Which is all to say that when it comes to the idea of loving an entity that cannot love you back, I wonder, now that I've thought more on it, if perhaps it's a matter of perspective and expectation?
Yes, it's sad to think of how much those men would've loved the sea itself and how the sea did not, could not love them back. How it was the sea itself that doomed them, at least in part.
I think a lot about how they possibly could have reconciled that but then I remember my own experiences in the landscape, the love I feel for it and the joy it continues to bring me. And I think perhaps that you just don't and shouldn't love something of that magnitude in the first place for anything else but what it is or with any expectation that it'll love you back.
As I touched on in the tags of that earlier post, most of those men would have been at sea since their childhood/youth and built their entire lives around it, would've known it intimately.
So yes, while the sea is a cruel mistress who could not love them back, I think that there's perhaps a more positive spin to be found here.
That there's perhaps something quite beautiful and profound and, dare I say, holy, in the notion that they would've known full well the unloving, cruel, and capricious nature of the sea and that they would've carried on loving her regardless.

I've waffled on long enough now so I'll end on a more historical/Terror-specific note and say that I think there's also a really interesting conversation to be had about colonialism/empire vs the sea/landscape.
Though the men don't love the empire itself per se, their lives have been defined by it and everything they've done within their careers has served it in some way. Yet at the end of the day, it is just another entity that, for lack of a better phrase, doesn't love them back, doesn't care for them at all.
The key distinction to be made here, I think, is one of 'can't' vs 'won't'.
It's sad that the sea doesn't love or care for you, yes, but that's only because the sea is a natural entity that cannot love or care for anything. Think of how, despite it all, the love still endures for Peglar and there is at least something approaching closure for him as result. Even as he's dying he still loves Bridgens and he still loves the sea, even after all it's put him through.
To live your life, however willingly, in service of an entity like colonialism/empire is another thing entirely though. That's a man-made entity that doesn't care for you not because it can't but because, quite frankly, it doesn't fucking want to. An entity that had the choice and the power to care for you and chose not to. Think of James Clark Ross, for example, and the way his face drops when he realises that, despite everything that's happened and everything they've given in service of it, the Admiralty and the Empire still care more about finding the Passage than finding the men lost to it.
Now that's a tragedy!

I’m collecting thematic motifs (visual, dialogue, and story overall) that COULD repeat or be mirrored in season 3 of Good Omens.
(HERE is a lovely gifset of some of the parallels we’ve already gotten!)
“I forgive you.” This is a BIG one. It’s already been deliberately repeated from season one where we went from Crowley saying “I’m unforgivable,” to “Don’t bother,” in season two. Two BIG possibilities here: either Crowley somehow accepts forgiveness, or (much more likely I think) he forgives Aziraphale for slights real and imagined.  Sad third possibility would be Aziraphale asking for forgiveness, and Crowley NOT forgiving him (at first!!). 
Aziraphale lying.  Another biggie. The entire Job minisode was dedicated to the lies Crowley and Aziraphale tell to protect themselves and others. And it predates (and provides context for) the big body-switching lie in season one. It would make absolute story sense for season three to also involve Aziraphale lying to Heaven or, in a lovely mirror, lying to Crowley about something, and when Crowley catches him in it, saying “I lied.”
Crowley’s glasses. Crowley’s glasses have morphed into a symbol of his comfort level with Aziraphale. In season two he regularly removes them around Aziraphale and even has a spot to stow them in the bookshop. And, devastatingly, he puts them back on when he feels he’s being rejected in their last convo, and even kisses Aziraphale with them on. The wonderful mirror action here might be Aziraphale removing Crowley’s glasses so he can look him in the eye in an important moment, or Crowley deliberately removing them before they kiss again. 
The bookshop and the apartment. By the end of season two. Both of these safe spaces have been returned, but by the end of season three, I predict they will either be taken, destroyed, or willingly abandoned by the pair in favor of the South Downs cottage and in a big lovely symbolic crossing of the threshold from your space and my space to our space. This was set up with Aziraphale convincing Crowley to share the car. 
Memory loss. So this was a big theme of season two, obviously, but I don’t think we’re done with it. As others have pointed out, Crowley doesn’t remember some of the angels or demons he worked with before the fall. That definitely seems like an open loop. Also, we have several examples of physical records of things — the statue of Gabriel, the polaroid, Aziraphale’s journals — that could replace or supplement lost memories... Combine this with heaven’s “kindness” being to wipe Gabriel’s memories and the threat of erasing people from the Book of Life and it definitely feels like this is going to come back in some way. 
Maybe related, maybe not, is Crowley’s angel name. We get snippets that Crowley is a pretty high-ranked angel before the fall — from literally starting up the universe to being able to open classified files in heaven.  And Neil very cleverly — and deliberately — did not have him introduce himself to Aziraphale in the first scene. He also says he’s not the same angel Aziraphale remembers, and doesn’t want to go back to heaven and be an angel/that angel again. I definitely think this will be important in season 3. 
The apology dance. I don’t know whether we’ll get Aziraphale doing the apology dance in season three; if I were writing it, I’d make it so that he offers, or starts to do the dance and Crowley cuts him off. But it seems like the theme of apologies has been set up here regardless. 
Crowley rescuing Aziraphale. Love this for them, and it’s been a theme, but because Aziraphale called it out specifically, I think it may come back as an important motif again. It seems plausible that Crowley will need to rescue Aziraphale from heaven — or will THINK he needs to. Or, if we flip it, maybe Aziraphale will need to rescue Crowley (another word for rescue is “save” which takes on interesting religious undertones...). 
The 25 lazari miracle. It DEFINITELY seems like this will be important. Perhaps there is something in season three that no angel or demon can possibly accomplish that Aziraphale and Crowley do together. Maybe one of them realizes how to thwart the apocalypse but needs the other to be powerful enough to do it... 
While we’re at it, resurrection as a theme seems like it will definitely come into play in a story about the second coming and, presumably, the rapture and the biblical idea that people will literally walk out of their graves into the kingdom of heaven (aka zombies). 
Aziraphale’s gun in the bookshop. This is like a LITERAL Checkov’s gun, so chances are it will play some sort of role in season three.

100th Post Celebration! Wahoo!!
Hello everyone! Yes you read that right, I've officially reached 100 posts on this tumblr! How exciting!
I know it's not really that crazy of a milestone, but considering this blog was completely inactive not too long ago, I'm happy to see it. It's become a blog I really enjoy and genuinely love coming to update and make little posts about video games on. And I hope you all enjoy seeing me talk on and on about random games too!
Also this account randomly jumped from under 10 followers to just over 50 this year. Which again isn't a lot but still its NUTS to see. I know a lot of you followed specifically for gifsets and I haven't made any in a hot minute. But I appreciate you still being here and maybe even enjoying my ramblings about games I play? Probably not... Maybe?
Regardless if you only read whatever interests you, if you somehow have the mental fortitude to read EVERYTHING, or don't read anything at all and are just wondering where the gifs are. I do appreciate you being here!
Mainly I just wanted to make this post to give a bit of an update on what's happening here. In the new year I still plan to run this blog the exact same way as I did this year. At this point I REALLY like the set up I have for posting my game thoughts and prefer much MUCH more over the old way of sharing thoughts through twitter threads. And I have no intentions of stopping, so I hope you look forward to seeing all the random stuff I play in the coming year!
Outside of just afterthoughts stuff, I do want to make more gifs. I haven't even really scratched the surface of what I could do with just the dozens of smash bros. games, mods, and fangames I have on my computer. And there's tons of other stuff I could make gifs of, and if they do become popular enough I may even consider taking game requests eventually (no promises though)
I have also been considering making some videos for more visually focused afterthoughts or to facilitate my more insane brain worm fueled video game ramblings. Like maybe gushing about random Xbox 360 RPGs or ramblings about Smash Bros. characters. This is just a concept though cause I REALLY don't want to become a youtuber and would only make videos for fun cause I think the stress of doing it regularly would kill me.
Then of course I have a lot of work to do, both for games I'm a part of and my own personal games like Once Upon An Adventure! I really want to buckle down and get some good progress done on it in 2024 (I say this every year so don't hold your breath lmao). But sadly I will also be moving in the first part of 2024 which will, as all moves are, be a long and stressful process. So I probably won't get a TON of gaming done for a bit outside of smaller games and maybe playing some old stuff I've been sitting on for a bit. But we'll see.
Regardless, thank you all VERY much again for your continued support and your interest in anything I say even though it's all pretty much pointless ramblings of an insane person. Look forward to more video game stuff from your pal Bahamutgreen in the future.

i saw your reblog of the Matt gifset and what do you mean by "they ruined both of you for this arc?" I get that they made Barnes more despicable in cm compared to cmbb but what about Matt? Is it that the lack of references to his time in the IRT or his reduced role in the Barnes storyline despite their established history in favor of JJ or something else?
it's two different issues, it was just funnier to say that
my bigger issue is barnes, who was absolutely stripped of any and all actual characteristics she had, including but not limited to her positive sides. and god, you can see kim try to do interesting, non-obvious choices, like the few times where she plays some lines like she might just genuinely confused about the hostility and is trying to understand the team better on some level. they took away not just the nuance in her, but also just the most basic fucking things about her, down to using chess metaphors when she specifically says that she "likes boxing" when asked about her aptitude in understanding internal politics as chess. she even got an even shorter haircut than in cmbb, just so we all know she's an Evil Woman.
as for matt. they actually brought in something from the IRT. they actually had something tying to the other show. they could've actually displayed the emotional impact that barnes on matt, allowed for a character episode that ties into something other than family, and expands on the circumstances that led to him transferring. the set-up had SO MUCH POTENTIAL. in blowback, barnes tried to hammer the IRT down when she had every reason to think they were at fault, but eventually took a risk and arrested someone while knowing full well she would make waves and would need to quiet down some details as soon as the evidence was on the IRT's side. in the finale, she pushes for the rules hard, very clearly emotionally distancing herself in the situation bc there's just nothing that be done until jack's wife gets through her and she tells IRT to break the law to get ryan. and after that, presumably they got caught anyway and the unit is disbanded. that's twice she's been an antagonist, twice that she's been the key to saving the day; once fully by the book (if mismanaged by her temper and desire to get things Done over doing things with care), and once by breaking it, which turned out for the worst.
so here we have matt, whom i see as "compassion within the rules" and needs extreme circumstances to blatantly break from that, against barnes, who is "rules regardless of compassion (so make the compassion fit within the rules or help you god)". the bau has had a string of extremely risky behaviour, some acts that absolutely err on the side of wrong from a bureaucratic perspective, and after multiple already concerning events that have included the team, an agent finally died. it is the perfect storm to introduce her to, matt being the perfect opponent and the reason to care about and fear barnes.
so how in the fuck do you manage to not make matt the main character in the ensemble for a single episode during the entire four episode arc.
HOW DO YOU WRITE A THIRD OF THE SEASON TO REVOLVE AROUND THIS AND AT EVERY POINT, THE MOST OF WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT ITS IMPACT ON MATT IS THROUGH REACTION SHOTS SHARED WITH OTHER PEOPLE
HOW IS MATT A MARGIN MENTION IN AN ARC ABOUT HIS OWN ANTAGONIST. WHY IS IT SPENCER THAT COMPELS EMILY TO STAY AND NOT MATT, WITH WHOM EMILY ALREADY HAD A PRE-BAU DYNAMIC WITH AND WHO OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD BE THE ONE GOING "I KNOW WHAT'S AT STAKE, AND YOU SHOULD STILL STAY."

Meta turn moment:
I was thinking of this gifset the other night and I came to this conclusion. I think thr writers wanted it to be Abe/Anna centered, but I think this scene can have more nuance for Anna's character. I would hope the writers also considered this, but here is my take.
"To hear her tell it, they kissed only once." "Well, if it's done right, sometimes it all you need."
So, this obviously screams Abe and Anna. They kissed more than once, but for Abe I figure that when they kissed that first time in episode 1, it didn't help with his craving for connection with Anna. For the past and their previous relationship. For Anna, thus can be the case for her as well, but it could also be in a comforting sense. When Selah was off at The Jersey and then believed to be dead, Abe was Anna's familiarity in this scary time. She has Simcoe breathing down her neck, she was about to lose Strong Manor, and it seems that everything was stacked against Anna. So a kiss with Abe could've opened the flood gates and it just spiraled into the affair. Regardless, I imagine, too, in their past their first kiss might've been with one another (or they both have a fond moment when they kissed). So this can definitely lean into Abe/Anna.
For Hewlett and Anna, this is a little more complicated. I can't remember everything with Annlett, but Hewlett was going through a lot when they first kissed. Simcoe was around trying to take control of Setauket, killing his men one by one. Hewlett was really taken in by Anna. I believe Hewlett loved Anna before he kissed her for the first time, but their first kiss might've just strengthened his love for her. For Anna, I suppose it could've been a comfort. But for as guarded as Anna is with her heart with her past, at the point she kissed Hewlett for the first time she couldn't deny her feelings anymore. It led to a more complicated dynamic between them and the manipulation going on if you believe Anna loved Hewlett. It opened the door for the possibility of a new life, one that complicated her relationship with Selah and the Spy Ring. It complicated her relationship with Abe and the rest of Setauket. Maybe this was Anna's "Oh shit, I love him" moment.
"Bambi, Anna kissed Simcoe? What about that?" I feel like that is a whole different situation entirely. I honestly don't think Anna loved Simcoe and this was done out of fear. I feel like that would only derail this meta piece.
I think this could extend to Anna/Selah in a weird way, too. I know Selah was not Anna's first, but I believe Anna knows he is a good man. She can learn to love him, even if he might be her second choice. Bringing this down to s1, I can see the whole Battle of Setauket scene fitting this. Anna believed Selah was dead, thanks to Ben and Caleb. When she spots him alive and in the flesh, her whole world might've spun. Here he is, alive and kissing her. It's a small reassurance and a shock all the same for everything she went through. Maybe it strengthened her admiration for Selah a bit? Here is a man that returned to her and didn't she away from expressing his affections in front of everyone else. It's a sudden contrast to the affair Abe and Anna have toyed with when Selah was out of the picture.
I think this quote can fit many of Anna's dynamics in different ways that can stack on top of one another or contrast them. I think we need to give more credit to Anna on how complicated her dynamics are in the show and how much Anna is pigeonholed into making risky, dangerous, and heart breaking scenarios that has no real winner at the end of it.

Gotta warn you about Jaxton Wheeler. If “Problematic” has an encyclopedia photo, he’s it.
i kinda accidentally just did a background check on him. that is, i found his twitter, which links to his website, and stumbled across a blog post that details his "rise and fall". so i read up on this whole "blamed for someone else's suicide" thing. i can definitely see why people would blame him and that last thing he tweeted at the woman who took her life was certainly uncalled for, regardless of whether or not she saw it before she died. you don't say something like that to anyone, ever.
if there's anything else he's done that may deem him "problematic", then i'll have to learn about it on my own. i'm not really one to believe in "cancel culture" unless something really offends of affects me personally, like, for example, kanye west and his antisemitism. and i do think people are capable of change and learning from their mistakes. it's all reflective in their behavior.
but don't worry, i'm not really gonna go super hard "stanning" this guy. i really just saw that gifset and thought he was hot. maybe i'll look up some of his films tomorrow. but that probably covers the extent of my interest in him, if you're so concerned about it.

the tags on the gifset u reblogged where kinn says porsche, don’t. yes! you get it. (I really wish other people did because That is what was happening in the scene!)
I think it's a matter of people not fully understanding these characters. I know Tumblr is where most fandoms go to analyze, analyze, analyze, and predict but I think a lot of fans aren't used to the concept of truly analyzing these characters and figuring out what they want and why they are the way they are.
I'm sure Kinn didn't want to see his father die, regardless of how much of a scheming, lying asshole he is. However, none of that was about Korn. It was about Porsche. I think people forget how much it affected Porsche whenever he did have to kill someone. The first time he did it, getting drunk wasn't even enough to make him forget about it. He couldn't even kill that guy Korn claimed was responsible for the death of his parents because he saw that he had a family. (We also know now that was some bullshit; I still want to know exactly who that guy was.) This is Porsche. Porsche has a heart and he can't kill without hesitation. He cannot do it, and I love that about him. That's just not who he is. Kinn knew that too, which is why he stopped him.
Kinn knew that Porsche wouldn't have been able to live with himself had he done it. I don't think Kinn would have stopped loving him for it, but Porsche is soft-hearted and he would have never gotten over something like that. That's also why I never actually bought the journey into the morally grey territory the writers were trying to tease in 1x13. I know a LOT of people were excited about it, but it never felt right to me and I think that's why. No matter what Porsche's motivation is, there has to be an immediate threat for him to pull the trigger and kill someone. There's no way he's going to plan and premeditate a murder. He doesn't have it in him. At least not now. In the future, who knows? But not now.

It has now been a week since prompts were released. Ideas already coming to you or do you need some help to get the ball rolling? Today, I will explain why I chose each prompt and how they could tie into a possible idea.
Mod Merry
Flowers: An easy pick for them both as they both have flower motifs. This prompt opens up plenty of easy low stakes scenarios like buying a bouquet for their anniversary, doing gardening together or higher stake ones too, like hanahaki or gardenverse. Its a very versatile prompt, I think.
Stars: An easy selection! Ryoken is the stardust boy after all. It can be taken in multiple directions, too. Not just star gazing but if you want to do metas on their astrological signs go for it or maybe an AU where they are movie stars, rock stars, any kind of star.
Manmade Technology: this prompt might prove a little tricky but the inspiration was found in Vrains' setting and of course the birth of the Ignis so mediations on either of them would be appropriate. Of course, if you wanted to get inappropriate, then things like sex toys are manmade technology, too. It was also chosen to evoke the Borrels/Rokkets so if you wanted to explore what if they had a personal connection to Ryoken akin to the Sunavalons, then you have my blessing.
Natural Wonder: Chosen to complement manmade technology and evoke the Sunavalons. I also inexplicably associate the song Seven Wonders by Fleetwood Mac with them so deal with it. Regardless, if you are in the mood to draw something with an epic background, this could be the prompt to excise that mood on.
Dragon: Evoked in honour of Ryoken given his deck. There's also dragon related tropes too for any tropers who want to make gifsets. This prompt is meant to run wild with canon mediations and fun AUs, good luck!
Ghost: Named in honour of Spectre. There's plenty of potential for fun visuals, interesting metaphors in this prompt, methinks. Can be either fluffy or angsty. Casper The Friendly Ghost AU? Sixth Sense AU? Buzzfeed Unsolved AU? Plenty of potential in this prompt
Following Behind: Ever notice that Spectre is (usually) portrayed behind Revolver/Ryoken in scenes they're together? I chose this prompt based on this visual.
Moving Forward: This prompt was inspired by the theme of the final episode, so its meant to open up possibilities on post-canon but of course, there are plenty of things either of them could move forward on or from.
Courage: Chosen to pair with cowardice, Ryoken exemplified courage as a child when he ended the Incident. I think this prompt opens up a lot of potential for angst, particularly on Ryoken's side, or could be taken in a different direction for Spectre if you wanted to complete or alter his character arc. In a completely different vein, its also a Digimon Crest so, Digimon AU anyone? I think a lot can be done with it.
Cowardice: Chosen first in this pair, I thought of Spectre's most negative trait haha and as such, it might be tricky to convey but another of the ample opportunities for angst if that is one's forte.
Dead Asleep: Inspired by all the comatose states that Spectre's been in over the course of Vrains.
Wide Awake: Chosen to complement dead asleep. Good luck. But there are definitely songs which include wide awake within their lyrics so that could open up potential for AMVs.
Free Day: the obligatory day which is a free for all. Do something not covered by the previous prompts, do something you enjoyed so much you want to do it again. There are really no rules so please have fun!

i’m so pickyyyy lmao, i watched the ari and dante adaptation and i got soooo much to say sorryyyyy
i think bc this book was so formative and i’m like unhealthily protective over it i went in knowing i was gonna pick out every little thing i do or don’t like. honestly i loved the score and the music choices, the cinematography was beautiful and i spotted every little time the DP went insaneeee with it like i can see the gifsets and moodboards already. i’m separating dialogue from performance bc i think it’s clear that most of it was directly from the book or similar, but i think the performances could have been a little cleaner in some spots. like. you could have done another take, c’mon.
im gonna be a real bitch and say that i liked dante’s casting but i had a different idea for ari personallyyyyy (just cus i feel like some ppl might disagree and that’s fine but sometimes it’s hard to find good young actors for a period piece 😬)
set design / location choices / costume design was GREAT tho, i think those parts were genuinely immersive and i would have loved to see more of the environment.
this is a hard book to adapt if i’m being honest, but i think regardless of whatever form it’s in im always gonna bawl at the crucial confrontational scenes bc we’ve all been there or WISH we had that same experience of acceptance and love.

Ya know, now that they’ve gotten Mutual Confirmation of Feelings via The Big Kiss out of the way, I kinda DO hope that they go the maxanor route with Stede and Ed and have their relationship be antagonistic throughout much of s2 (but also in the sense that they’re still learning more about each other and gaining a deeper understanding) until the end where they’re forced to become reluctant allies to confront some larger threat (probably the navy, furious that Blackbeard went back to piracy, thereby nullifying their victory in 1x09).
And then the first half of s3 is dedicated to Stede and Ed rekindling their friendship and healing some of those old wounds and midway through s3, at some time when all hope seems lost (maybe they’re in a holding cell together waiting to be hanged or something?), we get a “Where would we have gone?”-esque scene and it’s heartwrenching.
But THEN, because this show isn’t a tragedy like Black Sails, they actually DO get a second chance to Escape The Narrative, and ultimately get the happy ending that Max and Eleanor couldn’t have. I just think that would be Neat.

hello! i absolutely adore your gifsets and you've honestly inspired me to start gifmaking. may i ask for any tips you may for gifmaking or what programs to use for a beginner gifmaker?
ty so much that’s so sweet 😭 but honestly i'm just winging it skjfnkj i open photoshop and simply hope for the best! there's a few good tutorials floating around tumblr (this one has some good basic information, including how to sharpen, etc)
(if you have no experience with photoshop at all i would highly recommend going to youtube and watching a couple of videos covering the basics/explaining what every tool in order to familiarize yourself! it can be overwhelming (or it was for me, at least) in the beginning, and until you find your rhythm, it will really help to have a reference.)
my personal process is using potplayer to get screencaps to make gifs. this is how i first learned and i started doing it again at the end of last year because my other method (cutting clips from videos then importing into photoshop that way) always felt a little dull/fuzzy and personally i think screencaps provide a clearer image! but! you can work with straight video if you're patient + good at ps. i am neither

get to the part of the video you want to cap. pause it, then hit control + g on your keyboard to bring up the screencapture menu. i have a folder just called "potplayer" where my caps go. my settings:

("10,000" is just so i make sure i get all the caps i want. i hit stop once it's moved past what i want to gif on screen.)
open photoshop
file > scripts > load files into stack. this can take a while depending on how many frames you're loading in at once. when it's done, go to window > timeline > create frame animation. in the corner of the timeline box will be four horizontal bars; click on it, and use make frames from layers, then hit reverse.
this is where i start editing. first, i crop; make sure you're cropping to tumblr dimensions, i.e. 540px for a single column, 268px for two. (i never put three gifs side by side, and i can’t seem to find an up-to-date post that confirms the size for it, but i think it’s 178px, if you’re curious). my most common ratios are 540x540, 540x500, 540x338, 540x304. depends on the scene, what i'm giffing, if there's dialogue, etc. for a lot of my dialogue sets, like here, i use 540x338; for these john-117 gifs, i used 540x540. it’s all about what looks best to you, what you want to achieve, etc. i never use 540x540 for dialogue, i reserve it for movie sets or just “x as y” sets.
next comes coloring, which is the most painful part of the process. most of the time i really just spam color balance because i’m a mess, but it’s what works for me since i prefer vibrancy for gifs. it can help you change colors and create nice sets like these when used alongside selective color; you can either enhance what’s already there, or change the colors entirely. take, for example, this john set: there were some nice colors to work with already:

the purple john set required a little more work (and the purple adjustment layer was gifted to me by @aldensutton because i suck at making purple in ps, it always turns pink)

it really just comes down to practice and finding what works for you/what you’re giffing. here and here are two tutorials you can use as starting places from people who seem to know a lot more than me. googling “giffing coloring tutorials for photoshop tumblr” will bring up more. you can also find premade psds across various photoshop blogs on tumblr; i make all of mine myself these days, but i used to use a lot from this creator as bases. searching any kind of “free psd” “gif psd” should yield some good results in the tumblr search - just remember you will need to manipulate them regardless for what you’re giffing. no two shows are alike. no two scenes from a single show are alike. this is where it can become really frustrating.
once you’re satisfied with your coloring, though, it’s time to sharpen. the first tutorial i linked goes a little bit into the basics of how to sharpen, but it’s not my method, which is inconsistent and different for every gif. i don’t know about other people, but i just sharpen the frames, not the adjustment layers, which is probably dumb but <3 to sharpen, you go to the same menu you used when creating frames from layers. choose “convert to video timeline”, then select all the frames of the gif, group them using ctrl+g, then convert to smart object, then go to filter > sharpen > smart sharpen. my base sharpening is always 500 for amount, 0.3 for radius, and 0 for reduce noise. sometimes i double up on 500, sometimes i sharpen again at just 200 or 150, depending on what looks best. there’s also this method that i like for certain gifs. sharpening is very important for giffing.
for some gifs i will add noise, but that depends on my personal preference and isn’t something i’ll get into since it’s not standard/is just a personal aesthetic i enjoy.
i suppose i should mention that for dialogue, you select text tool then click in the left-hand corner, then drag to create a box that your text will show up in. it’s the easiest way to center/ensure text aligns on all frames. all you have to do is lower it to the bottom half of the gif. my font preference is arial rounded mt bold; font size depends on the size of the gif. 
once everything is cropped, colored, and sharpen, you save by going to file > export > save for web. my export settings change somewhat from from gif to gif:

and that’s pretty much it! at least for what i can offer. i learned just by doing, trying things out, getting frustrated, etc... sknfkj i also get a LOT of help from @aldensutton as i mentioned before, she provides a lot of insight and opinions for me, and has really helped me to where i am now <3 it just takes a lot of trial and error to find what works best for you. it took me a while to get to where i am now; i feel like the gifs i was making just a year ago are so terrible, honestly. i can try to help further if you need it, there’s undoubtedly some things i missed, and there’s tons of blogs on tumblr that provide photoshop help, run by people far more knowledgeable than me! once again ty so much for the compliment <33 i hope you have fun gifmaking! it really is fun for me

one: seonghwa answer (ode to joy) edit! this is the first thing i made and posted on this account. it was inspired by answer and the kingdom stage and i was trying really hard to get my design brain back after school really burnt me out
two: poster set! this is what i was really really proud of. i made this one day and i felt like i was Back, ya know? it felt really nice to be so proud of something i made again
three: color palette edits! i used to make fun of people who made these back in the day bc silly 15 year old me thought i was Better and Above doing something so simple but i decided to bring them back as a meme and something i enjoyed and you guys really liked them 🥺 and it honestly inspired me to branch out and just do more once i kinda got really back into making things
four: album cover birthday edits! i got this idea randomly for yeosang and while they arent exactly my favorite, i do really like that i *kinda* got the song vibe down. i changed things up for jongho on tho so here are yeosang, san, mingi
five: i taught myself how to make gifs! i'm still learning but im really happy with how things are going and im having a lot of fun. linked is my first gifset that i posted

ten: this freaking turbulence edit. i dont know what happened to me this day but how the heck am i going to top this? i have a while before i make the song graphic for it but ???? how ???? i would just count it but the caption doesnt match >:(
eleven: whatever i do with my gifs lmao. i have an inability to just let things Be and so i just started playing with my gifs and adding things to give it ✨concept✨ bc if there's one thing design school did to me, it was drive me to make everything conceptual and now i am broken

favourite gifsets made in 2021
i was tagged by @katewalker​​, @minthara​​ and @neketakas​​ to post my favourite creations that i’ve made this year. 2021 was kinda great in a way because i finally got regular access to photoshop again so i actually have stuff to show for it - and i made a lot, thanks to replaying origins, inquisition and the mass effect trilogy, plus wotr and apex legends - so here’s a top 10. my full edits tag is here.

1. dead man’s curves + inspects - apex legends; revenant’s heirloom came along with the legacy event, and honestly this just came out so well. the animation team did such a great job with the animations, and i just love the colouring on this gifset. i think this is my strongest gifset i’ve done this year.

2. citadel dlc + shali - mass effect 3 (legendary edition) ; replaying the mass effect trilogy was great. up until i had to deal with my shepard constantly being misgendered and constant whining about tali being mshep only in the tags of my gifsets (seriously, make your own damned post and stop assuming everyone is cis challenge :)); and even though that soured things for me, i had to add one of the shali gifsets on here and the citadel one was the one i liked the most colouring and composition wise. they’re married, actually.
3. emergence launch trailer - apex legends. so i somehow managed to crank this trailer gifset out within about 20 minutes of the trailer going live. the colours, the shots, the general quality all things considered, i’m really, really happy with. season 10 was a shitshow for the servers but artistically? exquisite.

4. of somewhat fallen fortune - dragon age: inquisition. this josephine gifset; dai is my arch nemesis when it comes to colouring, but i like to think this turned out nicely.
5. areelu vorlesh’s laboratory - pathfinder: wrath of the righteous. pretty colours, my first time trying to do scenery in a game like this and still one of my favourite areas in the game (second only to alushinyrra)

6. arthur has had Enough - dragon age: inquisition. if there’s one thing i love about trespasser, it’s being able to rp arthur, a generally nice and patient man, as about to Snap. i love that for him. and judging by some of the horny tags i got, so do you guys.
7. camellia roasting valerius’ performance - pathfinder: wrath of the righteous. valmellia was gonna be on here regardless considering how much real estate they’ve taken up in my brain. this just took me out. i love this for her. absolutely iconic. 10/10 would love to see more male protagonists get called shit in bed. also again. i really like the colouring; it feels very warm.

8. ash in apex legends: escape - apex legends; another trailer gifset i have no idea how i managed to crank out so fast and look nice. ash is such a cool character but man. am i bad at her.
9. the battle of denerim - dragon age: origins. i did a lot of da:o gifsets this year (64 to be precise!) and this is still one of my favourites.
10. slaying the archdemon - dragon age: origins. that’s hot.

On Babbushka
There is a group of well-known writers in the fandom who have been discouraged and put down by one of their own, Zannah - @babbushka​. It happens behind the scenes in DMs. It happens in posts and tags.
In DMs, she has started conversations with seemingly innocent questions. When she doesn't receive the response she was aiming for, she diverts the conversation to criticizing and humiliating the person. She has attacked writers for tagging—or not tagging—a post in a way she deems appropriate. She has gotten into arguments over how characters were portrayed and then tried to claim victimization when the other person wouldn't knuckle under.
She will appeal to her following to attack any fan or creator who has an opinion that differs from her own. She will encourage friends to send rude anons. Those same friends will also DM the target with rude remarks.
Several creators have stopped writing altogether because of their interactions with her.
We are tired of being discouraged. We are tired of being talked down to. We are tired of being bullied. Enough is enough. Under the cut we share our stories, let the chips fall where they may. It's up to you, the reader, to decide whether to support her.
We can only warn up-and-coming writers, artists, fans, and supporters of her behavior.

The Australian bushfires of the 2019-2020 season were nightmarish—for those living through it and those witnessing. As the season went on, cries for help increased. Joaquin Phoenix used the time during his Best-Actor acceptance speech at the Golden Globes to call for unity, action, and accountability. Regardless of what we may think of him, it was a thoughtful speech.
Hope, who is an Australian, found Mr. Phoenix's message encouraging and reblogged a gifset of his speech.

That morning, Zannah made a post about Mr. Phoenix's shady past and his association with a known sexual predator. The main reason wasn't because his speech was inappropriate or not timely, but because she didn't think he should be the one to get the attention over other actors who had spoken of the bushfires during the Golden Globes.
While Hope confessed she was scared of the bushfires, scared for her loved ones, Zannah was more concerned with purity. To Zannah it was about the face of the message, not the message itself. It didn't matter that Mr. Phoenix was amplifying support for Australia, what did matter was that he had done bad things.
It was virtue signaling on Zannah's part.
Still, this remains a complicated argument. Can a person who has done bad things actually have something positive to add to a cause? Should we listen to a problematic person if they share an insight? Does it reflect poorly on us to agree with their isolated statement? Will we be canceled, too? What about the bigger picture?
In this case, the bigger picture was hundreds of homes were destroyed in the bushfires and families were displaced. People died, thousands of animals died. And it was because of climate change. Mr. Phoenix called for his rich peers to examine their respective lifestyles and to give back.
Yes, Mr. Phoenix has done bad things. Yes, he has associated with people who have done bad things. His words resonated with people on Tumblr, and they reblogged part of his speech. He said something that gave Hope hope.

Hope was asked by a third party how they could help. She came back with a resource guide for those who wanted to send aid to Australians.
When it became obvious Zannah wouldn't silence Hope, Zannah decided to sub-post about the interaction. There, she accused Hope of being a rape apologist for reblogging a gifset and finding a little comfort in it. Zannah placed her ego before someone who was facing a very real danger.

Side-eying an actor is one thing, shaming a person you know for finding solace during a scary time is another. Hope isn't responsible for which voice got picked up. The only "colors" being shown here are Zannah's. She put her own concerns about being perceived as morally pure above actually supporting a friend.
I'll keep this brief - I knew Zannah for many years. And on one of the lowest weeks of my life, when my suburb was burning down and I feared for my family: she convinced me I was a rape apologist for sharing Joaquin Phoenix's speech asking for action on bushfires. In all my life, I never felt more alone. To add insult to injury, she then posted memes mocking me - something that has stuck with me to this day.
I've had dear friends quit the fandom because of her kinkshaming. I've had people I love message me distraught over what she's said.
Enough is enough.

This PM exchange started after I tagged my reblog of Zannah's fic Feast (Cameron Bistle x Reader) with cw: white reader. I had been on her taglist, and I wanted to show support because I liked the fic overall. For context, the reason for my tag is because of this sentence:
"But then you're blushing so pretty and squeezing his hand affectionately and reaching for the handle to the passenger side of his car, and then you're laughing when he swats your hand away to open it for you, and then you're beckoning him down as if to ask a question – only to place a chaste kiss to his lips instead."
This is from Cameron's point of view.
She asked the reason for the tag, and I explained it was because of the use of "blush" to describe Reader's appearance.

She misunderstood my premise. I did not mean only white people blush.
According to Merriam-Webster, blush means "a reddening of the face especially from shame, modesty, or confusion" or "a red or rosy tint."
It is an autonomic response, though. It happens in all humans for body cooling and nonverbal communication. The main problem with using it universally is that melanin obscures the appearance of said autonomic response.
Here's an example of three runners:

The two pale women, left and center, are pink in the face. They are blushing. The woman of color on the right is likely blushing, too. However, the melanin in her skin obscures the blood in her cheeks. She is not pink.
That's the pitfall of the word "blush." The observer can't always see it. We know what it feels like. We all do it. The face and/or neck gets hot. The use of "blush" is shorthand in narrative, and I understand that. Nevertheless, when writing to cater to a reader-insert audience of unknown heritage, writers need to consider describing with universal terms.

Again, she misunderstood my premise. I clarified by asking how Cameron sees the Reader blush under an abundance of melanin:

She sidestepped the physiological explanation to go straight for justification. She tried to legitimize "blush" as "perhaps [this]" or "perhaps [that]" when I stated earlier that blush by definition is pink or is to redden. That's the logic. A noncommittal, covering-all-the-bases, complicated defense diluted the conversation.
With her earlier "I have friends of color, hence I can't be exclusionary" statement, I wasn't sure she would get my point. I take full responsibility for not explaining, too. I should've asked for some time to gather my thoughts, but I didn't. Truthfully, I was unprepared, because I didn't think my insignificant tag would be an issue.
Also, I was confused why she was trying to police my blog.
Her replies came rapidly—before I could mention my confusion—and felt aggressive in the moment. Maybe that wasn't her intention, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
That doesn't take away from the fact that words have meaning. It's why we use specific words. It's not understood in the narrative that her use of "blush" could mean a bunch of things. If I had known, I wouldn't have tagged as I did. How is a reader of color supposed to know that? How does Cameron see Reader's blush if she has darker skin?
As writers, we don't know who is reading. Someone could be very pale or very dark. A person with medium-toned skin can turn a shade of pink or red. A person with darker-toned skin will not. We can't assume all readers are medium to pale. We need to develop better writing skills. We have to include everyone.
Readers of color > White-writer feelings
When I stood my ground, she doubled down, stating I made no sense in my tagging and that I lacked the ability to learn from her. She then diverted the argument, attacking a ficlet I wrote a few days beforehand—which had nothing to do with this argument. The Christian imagery in that ficlet was upsetting to her and "in such poor taste" because she headcanons Flip Zimmerman (BlacKkKlansman) is 100% culturally and ethnically Jewish.

Flip stated in the movie:
"I'm Jewish, but I wasn't raised to be. It wasn't part of my life. I never thought much about being Jewish. Nobody around me was Jewish. I wasn't going to a bunch of Bar Mitzvahs. I didn't have a Bar Mitzvah. I was just another white kid. And now I'm in some basement denying it out loud[...] I never thought much about it. Now I'm thinking about it all the time. About rituals and heritage. Is that passing? Well then, I have been passing."
By his own admission, Flip is ethnically Jewish, but not culturally. These are two separate things, and that should be recognized. While Judaism is ethnically and culturally entwined in ways that other religions are not, one does not equate the other. You can be one and not the other.
At the time, I didn't want her to sic her 3000+ followers on me. I wasn't going to argue further. I asked myself if the ficlet was important and worth anon-hate and realized, no, it wasn't. It was a throw-away.
And since I'm not culturally Jewish, maybe I had misstepped. And since Zannah is both culturally and ethnically Jewish, I asked for her guidance.

She flatly refused my request. I don't know how I was supposed to learn from her if she wouldn't teach me.

It sounded as if she wanted me to delete the whole fic. Like none of it was worth saving because it hadn't been Zannah-approved. I had gone against her headcanon, and the fic was too offensive to fix.
The last sentence was supposed to cover her back from criticism, and it placed all the responsibility on me. Obviously, she was above such petty concerns as someone else's blog or writing. Never mind that she had just attempted to get me to change my tagging system and rewrite my ficlet. On my blog.
Later, I figured out she was only criticizing and not offering a constructive critique. Her argument was not in good faith. It was retaliation for not giving her the obedience she thought she was owed.
This is the passage that offended her:
"It’s because of the way he fucks you. Like it’s confession—though he’s never been much of a church-going man. Every touch, every thrust, is a truth between you. Even when it’s rough and greedy. It feels like flagellation when you claw his back. He wears the sin proudly."
This is what I edited it to:
"It’s because of the way he fucks you. Every touch, every thrust, is a truth between you. Even when it’s rough and greedy. It feels like flagellation when you claw his back. He wears your marks proudly."
Yeah, I'm not pleased with the revised passage. It's lost its teeth, but I keep it.
The anonymous message(s) she mentioned weren't very anonymous, either. Unfortunately, I've since deleted the two messages. I had apologized to Anon for disappointing them. I said that if the fic was too much, they should unfollow and block me. I meant that in a self-care way. At the same time, I did not—and do not—owe anyone discourse. I don't have to explain my art when it doesn't hurt anyone. And no one was hurt by some purportedly misplaced religious imagery.
I have been silent about this since late January/early February. I was embarrassed. I had been bullied into changing my blog and my fic by someone who proclaims to never do anything of the sort. I had been a fool. Since this conversation with her, I have been blocked/blacklisted by third-parties, most likely at her behest, when none of this exchange had been necessary.

Kassanovella - @kylorengarbagedump​​
Zannah's followers have asked her about Kassanovella’s Fix Your Attitude. For context, it's currently one of the most kudo-ed fics for Kylo Ren x Reader on AO3. It had a bit of a renaissance earlier in 2020 because a TikToker wrote a song for it.

There is nothing wrong with not wanting to read a fic. If the subject matter doesn't work for a reader, they don't have to partake. Easy as that. So, these tags aren't a problem.
However, it led to this...

She lashed out, calling Kassanovella's fic a joke. A joke.
She implied her fics should be as popular as Kassanovella's because she works really hard on them. She admitted she's tied to the metrics. She implied she wouldn't be writing fic if not for the external validation.
Here's the thing about fanfic: readers like what they like. They don't care about a writer's effort. They only know what works for them. They comment and give kudos, reblog and like what they connect with. That is not under the writer's control. All a writer can do is try their best and concentrate on what they're passionate about.
To bash another writer's fic because it's popular is disrespectful. This whole bitter rant drips of entitlement and is an affront to Kassanovella.
Some time later, an incident happened in a chatroom during a streaming event for veterans by Arts In the Armed Forces (Adam Driver's organization). At least one fan brought up Fix Your Attitude while waiting for Mr. Driver to make an appearance. They were also disrespectful towards the other presenters by demanding to see Mr. Driver. It caused a big stink within the fandom, and Zannah had some choice words.

While mentioning the fic during the livestream was inappropriate, it was also inappropriate to throw all fans of the fic under the bus as she did in her tag. Sweeping generalizations and incriminations of a subset of fans certainly reads as if she resents those fans for a perceived slight.
Next, Zannah made an earlier disparaging comment about Kassanovella's fic, Little Bird. Unfortunately, that comment is lost. However, the messages supporting the comment remain. (For context, Little Bird is a Kylo Ren x Reader The Handmaid's Tale AU. It has been well received in the fandom, earning thousands of kudos on AO3.)

What an author wants to write about and sexualize is their business. Fantasizing about being dominated by Kylo Ren isn't cringe. It's a sexual fantasy. Some sexual fantasies can be disturbing to those who do not share the same kink.
Sexual fantasies are like ice cream. There's a reason why there are different flavors.
Also, "I will never ever be a person that tells an author what to do or not do" is an absolute lie. As evident in this post, Zannah most definitely tells authors what to do or not do.

Again, she bashes Kassanovella, claiming her writing isn't good. Her motivation for bashing Kassanovella can only be speculation. With Zannah's previously stated opinion of Fix Your Attitude, though, it indicates a certain level of negative emotions.

An anonymous person came forward with a case of Zannah policing their blog. Anon has a sideblog for their personal AU with Flip Zimmerman. They reblog gifsets and post headcanons. They were an enthusiastic fan of Zannah's and reblogged a few of the gifset she made. Anon tagged their reactions, and Zannah blocked them for it.

Anon went to Zannah and asked why they were blocked, because all they wanted to do was have fun and support fellow Flip lovers.

Anon was under the impression that because they were shipping themselves, and not Zannah, with Flip, she blocked them. Their personal AU doesn't align with Zannah's headcanon that she alone is married to this character and has his children.
While Zannah's reply may sound innocent, and perhaps it is, it also speaks to someone who has set herself up as the owner of Flip Zimmerman. (Wait until Spike Lee or the real Ron Stallworth hears about that...) It appears that if a fan does not comply with the Zannah-approved headcanon, where only she is married to Flip, that fan shall be blocked. If a fan uses tags on their blog that she does not approve of, that fan will be blocked.
Zannah's policing is disturbing. Going into a blog to look for something as a reason to block is disturbing. Any fan is allowed to use any tag on their blog how they wish. If the OP has said their post can be reblogged, how a reblogger tags is beyond the OP's control. To punish that reblogger for not behaving in a way she finds acceptable is uncalled for and unjust.

Backstory: Zannah does not view Ben Solo's arc in the Star Wars sequel trilogy as acceptable canon. However, she does view the story she created for Flip Zimmerman in BlacKkKlansman as completely canon.
This is not the first time she has been asked to clarify her position. Nor is it the first time she has avoided giving an on-topic response. A question asked in good faith should be responded to in kind.

If a creator doesn't want to address the issue, they can state that they don't. Deflecting from the question only muddies the waters. Fans feel dismissed. The creator feels hounded, and comes across as irritated and unapproachable. No one has a positive fandom experience.
There is nothing wrong with having a headcanon. What is wrong is Zannah mandating her headcanon for Flip on the whole fandom. As evident in this post, if a fan does not comply with her headcanon, they will be summarily blocked.
Also, there is nothing wrong with rejecting canon. Writers of transformative works have always done this. The problem is shaming fans who have accepted canon while not offering justification for that shaming. A creator saying they "can't help them" is the creator washing their hands of responsibility from articulating their thoughts when they themselves began criticizing the canon in the first place.
Again, this is a bad-faith argument. Creators can't ask for discussion and attention and then get mad when their viewpoints are challenged. Just because a discussion isn't going a creator's way doesn't mean it's an attack, either. It means people want clarification, and if one criticizes, they should be able to back up their criticisms.

While sharing our stories has been freeing, it's not our aim as fellow fans to cancel Zannah. We would hope she would take the opportunity to reflect on the damage she has done to the fandom. We hope we all can move forward with a more approachable and supportive scene.
No one person speaks for our fandom. The actions of one fan do not represent the entire fandom. Whether creator or consumer, you are welcome here.

Rules & posting guidelines for the week
Salutations, everyone! At this moment, Nuts & Dolts Week is still two and a half months away, but it’s getting closer every day! There will be plenty happening between now and the start of the week to get everyone ready and help inspire our creative muses. So, first things first: the rules! They’re listed below. You can also find these in the dropdown menu on the blog’s desktop page and in a link on the pinned post. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Stay tuned for other things in the coming weeks! 
Rules
1. Content that promotes bigotry (racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny), pedophilia, or incest is not allowed.
2. Because we want this blog to be a comfortable space for all Nuts & Dolts fans participating in the week, please keep content SFW. However, graphic content such as blood/gore is allowed since it’s probably unavoidable given recent Penny-related events in this volume. Please make sure that graphic content is tagged appropriately, though. The same applies to content with other mature nonsexual themes (for example: drugs, alcohol, death, etc).
3. Plagiarism is strictly forbidden. All work that you post must be your own, unless you have been given explicit permission by the creator to post their work. (If you have been given permission, please be clear about that and prominently credit the creator on your post)
4. Other relationships can be included alongside Nuts and Dolts, but content where Ruby and Penny are part of a larger polyship does not count as Nuts and Dolts.
5. Keep in mind that there will undoubtedly be many different talents and levels of skill being brought to this week, and all of this work is being created for free. Which is to say, be nice and don’t criticize someone’s work unless they’ve asked for criticism.
Posting guidelines
1. I’ll try to reblog as much as possible! If you want this blog to reblog things you’ve made for the week, please follow these steps:
Make sure that your work follows the content rules mentioned above.
When you post something, make sure to mention this blog with an @ so that I can see it. To increase the chance that I’ll see it, you can also tag your post with ‘nuts and dolts week 2021′ within the first 5 tags, but this is less necessary (Only the first 5 tags on a post show up in tumblr search results.).
If it’s been 12 hours since you posted something and I haven’t reblogged your post to this blog, you can go ahead and message me or send an ask to make sure that I haven’t missed it!
If you would prefer, you can use the submission box to submit your content directly to the blog. Submissions will be added to a queue to be posted during the week.
2. Feel free to adjust the prompts for your own personal preference.
3. Even if you don’t have your creation ready for its day, don’t worry! This isn’t school; you won’t get a failing grade in Nuts & Dolts if you don’t have your masterpiece ready in time. (Shipping Nuts & Dolts automatically gets you a perfect score!) This blog will be accepting and reblogging content regardless of how late it is. In fact, I’ll keep reblogging even after the week is over.
4. Any and all forms of contribution to the week are welcome! Art, writing, AMVs, incorrect quotes, cosplay, headcanons, edits, gifsets, songs, leatherbound medieval poetry done in calligraphy (yes, I’ve seen that for another shipweek), and more—everything under the sun. The more the merrier. If you can think of a medium that I’ve left out of my list, I will be suitably impressed.
