studio day
warnings: think only some swearing, other than that just some fluff! Enjoy!
Tumblr media
A soft breeze rips through the studio. Birds chirp melodically from the woods outside of the secluded London home. Nora loved days like these, she never pictured it for herself being from New York and all, but here she is. Hair up in a messy bun, jean shorts allowing her legs to feel the warm air and smock over her chest. A brush sticks out from behind her ear as she tries to find her phone among the messy pile of paints, brushes, charcoals, pencils and markers. She finally finds it and puts on her home playlist. The one that makes her feel most relaxed and helps her whenever she is homesick. “Reelin’ In the Years” by Steely Dan blares over the professional grade overhead speakers Matty insisted on putting in every room, finally getting her to agree by using the “I’m a musician, I can’t stand shitty speakers. I know what’s good quality, honey” card. Nevertheless, she was thankful for the 360 sound system as she felt herself drift back to her beloved big apple. Swaying lightly with the music as she splattered some paint on a cavas to create the effect of rain drops against a window, she begins to lose herself.
“Have ya had enough of mine!!” she sings loudly, feeling comfortable in her skin. Now having the guitar surround her, she quite embarrassingly begins to air-guitar the end of the song.
The next song launches and it’s her new favorite. “One more tear to cry” by Mac Demarco. She makes a mental note to show it Matty later, he might like it. Now grabbing another brush, she continues her masterpiece. Today, she is going for a Willem De Koonig vibe. Her favorite artist in New York from the 60s. She remembers seeing a piece of his work in the Guggenheim one time and being absolutely floored by his use of color and abstract linework.
“Here come the lonely nights…” She sings the end of the chorus, now dancing to the guitar solos. God, she misses New York. “Back in Massachusetts, walking by the old high school. Its just the way I left it, except this time it’s not with you.” She sings sadly, mirroring DeMarco’s tone.
She especially loves Koonig’s works of women, making it a life goal of hers to hopefully have one in her possession that she could stare at and study all day. She could only hope to be as good as him one day. Maybe even one day having a gallery or exhibition of her own. She sighs, getting lost in the dream and in the music.
Song switches again. “Resonance” by Home plays over the speaker, she remembers being in college when this came out and everyone going insane over it at parties. The song was practically the soundtrack to her summer that year. Well, that and an album that was released the year prior. She never in her wildest dreams thought she would end up marrying the man who wrote the lyrics from that album. How was this all real? She laughs, now stepping back from her work and admiring it. Seeing where it has empty spots and deciding to leave them as is. Less is more, right?
Song switches once more. “Deceptacon” by Le Tigre. Her favorite hometown band. She fucking loves Kathleen Hanna and Bikini Kill. Their energy embodying female punk and Nora’s whole ethos for her work. That band basically picked her up as a kid and gave her the confidence and self-assurance to own her talent and be open about it. Why sugar coat or minimize her success? To be more palatable to men? Please! Now screaming, “Everything you think and everything you feel is alright, alright, alright, alright, alright!!” Fully dancing now, she is at her happiest. Not giving a shit about the painting now, she feels like a kid again. She feels 16 again. Before the drugs, before the alcohol, before fucking Derek, before everything. She doesn’t notice the gravel crunching in the driveway, doesn’t notice the main door opening, doesn’t even notice the stairs creaking as someone walks up them.
Song now on “Kilby Girl” by the Backseat Lovers. Matty would definitely love this song, or at-least the guitar of it. “I overheard that she was nineteen, with a fake ID and a nose ring. Those kind of girls tend to know things, better than I do. And I’m dying to figure out what she’s hiding she’s playing it cool, but she’s lying better than I do!!” Letting the outro sweep her away, she dances and dances until her feet hurt. Her skin screaming in joy. Every inch of her body feeling electric.
Matty watches his girl from the doorway, grin a mile wide. He rarely gets to see her like this, so free and so her. Normally, while listening to music she’s more bashful leaving the singing to the professional. He can’t believe how much he loves her in this moment. It is like his heart has come out of his body and manifested itself in her. He couldn’t ask for more in life than to see her happy. He couldn’t ask for more in life than to come home to her.
Her bun now practically undone from all the dancing, skin glistening with a sheen of sweat, eyes sparkling in the natural light. He then notices the painting, recognizing it as being influenced by the Koenig- no Koonig guy she mentions from time to time when talking about art. He loves when she talks about her art, he has no idea about it so to hear it from her - someone so knowledgeable - is like listening to a textbook in his favorite person’s voice. It also helps him relax whenever she talks about it, since it has nothing to do with the band or label or Jamie or emails about their tour, he can just unplug from all of that and hear his honey speak about her passions. She said a couple times early on that her ex hated when she talked art, so Matty swore to himself that he would never do that to her. Never disrespect her like that, never put down what she got so much happiness from, never minimize her. He loved her, in every facet and aspect of her life. All of those pieces of her making her more beautiful and interesting to him, the more he learned about her the more he loved.
Matty only realizing now that the song switched and she is still dancing infront of him - how is she not tired out yet? “The Less I Know The Better” by Tame Impala plays above him. He refocusses his eyes to her. She still hasn’t noticed him but, is resuming her artwork while singing sweetly.
“Oh my love, can't you see yourself by my side, No surprise when you're on his shoulder like every night. Oh my love, can't you see that you're on my mind, don't suppose we could convince your lover to change his mind. So goodbye” She continues. Matty now deciding to reveal himself.
He swift grabs her and wraps his arms around her waist, swinging her around the room as he now sings “She said, It's not now or never wait ten years, we'll be together. I said, Better late than never just don't make me wait forever. Don't make me wait forever” He hears her giggle, the greatest sound in the world. Domestic bliss at it’s finest.
“Matty!! What are you doing home so early? How long have you been standing there ya creep?” She jokingly asks him between giggles.
“Been home since Kilby Girl, honey. Heard your sweet voice from the door, had to run up here to see what you were up to on the lovely afternoon.” He answered, looking down at her now. He sets her in front of him and grabs her face between his hands, kissing her cheeks over and over. Trying to express his joy and love as best as he can.
“L.E.S Artistes” by Santigold plays as they talk. His favorite song she’s showed him.
“Oh god, that means you saw me dancing like an idiot oh god!!” She shrieks, hiding her face in his shoulder. She feels his chest vibrate as he laughs at how cute she is. For the record, he loved her dancing no matter how bad at it she thought she was. He found it endearing and pure - untouched by any social pressure to tone it down or make it more ladylike. He loved that about her. Most girls he ran into molded themselves to fit him and what he found sexy or whatever, but not Nora. She is herself always, never muted or unsaturated. She is Nora in full living color, he could only hope to be the same one day through osmosis or something.
“I love your dancing, you know that Sweet. It’s adorable. And don’t even get me started on your singing voice…” he trails off thinking of how off pitch she sometimes is, but finding it cute instead of annoying like other people might.
“Well, thank you for that, Handsome. I love you. I’ll be down in a second to help make some lunch for us. What are ya feeling today?” She asks him curiously as she grabs a washcloth and cleans herself up a little from the wet paint brush swiping at her skin a few times while dancing.
“How about some burgers? Think its nice enough to grill today, love!” He answers excitedly. Finally being able to wear his “Kiss the Cook” apron he bought forever ago for the warm days.
“Sounds good, cutie! I’ll meet you down there.” She kisses him on his forehead and leaves to go wash up more in their bathroom. He runs to grab everything and spend the afternoon with his love.
Could life be any better? He doesn’t think so.

2 Theories involving Jose's 2nd Letter
Theory #1: Villhelm Lamb targeted Sam?
Jose in his 2nd letter comments about seeing a “signature” belonging to “a person by the name of ‘Bourbon’” which he saw “on my father’s ledger of goods once before”.
This should be the same “shipment of goods” to be put as “collateral and [given] to the [Villhelm Lamb] for safekeeping” referenced in Wu Chang’s 4th letter. On the “list of goods”, it says 2 things are circled: “an antique umbrella from China” aka Wu Chang’s umbrella, and “a signature that reads ‘Bourbon’”.
Tumblr media
The “Bourbon” signature is likely to belong to Sam.
Does this mean Villhelm wanted Sam as collateral (along with the umbrella)?
Villhelm may also be interested in Sam’s “masterpiece” (as the manor owner refers to it in Demi’s 3rd letter) aka dovlin and/or the drugs him or the manor owner are developing. We know he was using Alice as an experiment and subjected her to “prolonged medication and physical therapy”. He was likely the “kind individual” from Orpheus’ letter who “put together an excellent treatment package designed exclusively for Alice”, the same letter that Orpheus wrote “LIAR!” in red on, with the person described as “clearly furious”. Orpheus likely hated Villhelm for taking Alice. There’s also a chance Villhelm is the individual the manor owner refers to when he says at the end of Demi’s 3rd letter “[Demi] is an outstanding pawn in experiments, but I’m not the only player. But perhaps I’m the better one. After all, I found my answer in the end, and he may never find out… The problem we seek to solve has never been the same”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another thought, but if Villhelm is also performing experiments, and may be interested in the drugs Sam and/or the manor owner are developing, is it possible he could be behind Joaquin’s and the crew’s hallucinations in Jose’s 1st letter that lead to their deaths? Sam may have been involved with Joaquin in case Jose’s father was supplying Sam and the owner with Delphi for their experiments (or whatever “things” Sam extracted “9 samples” from back in Demi’s 1st letter). Villhelm may have gotten involved then maybe purposefully caused their deaths (potentially making it seem like an accident, or like he had no involvement at least) so he could keep the collateral, which could’ve included the stuff Joaquin was supplying Sam and/or the owner with, or if the only collateral Villhelm took was the umbrella and potentially Sam, maybe his goal was Sam or whatever he knew?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What if Villhelm is the “traitor” Sam and/or Demi references in Demi’s 1st and 2nd letters that “stole” 1 of the samples that “met your expectations”? In which case, Joaquin may be the supplier of the things “they brought back from the Mediterranean Sea” and thus might’ve been working with Sam and/or the owner for some time? Or at least more than once? Maybe Villhelm “stole it” during/as part of the mission when Joaquin and his crew perish?
Maybe rather than take Sam he took 1 of his “samples”?
What if Villhelm is also somehow behind Sam’s disappearance?
Sam should be at the manor considering Jose says the “handwritten note” in the lobby is the same handwriting as the person who signed “Bourbon” on his father’s list of goods. He is also likely the 2nd set of handwriting referenced in Wu Chang’s 3rd letter. So there’s a good chance Villhelm never took him, especially as it sounds like Sam was still working at the manor on dovlin for some time after Joaquin died. I just can’t help thinking/wondering anyways.
Tumblr media
Theory #2: Sam wrote the note stating 1 person must drink the poison
The handwriting is the same as a “handwritten note” that “appeared in the lobby some days ago”.
What if the “handwritten note” was the 1 that stated 1 of them had to drink the “poison”?
Vera’s and Patricia’s 2nd letters, which take place on the 1st night, do not mention the poison. Only Kevin’s 2nd letter does, which is stated to be the 3rd night.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jose’s 2nd letter says the note appeared “some days ago” and we know from Vera’s 3rd letter there were at least 5 nights total before the game started. Jose’s 2nd letter seems to be right before the game starts, in which case there would be “some days” between the 3rd and 5th nights.
The note that 1 of the participants has to drink poison is the only “note” we know so far that the manor owner would’ve written to that group, so there’s a good chance that’s the note Jose was referring to.
In this case, as Jose says the handwriting of that note matched that of the person who signed “Bourbon” on his father’s list of goods, that means Sam may have been the 1 to write the note that stated 1 of them had to drink “poison”.
This “poison”, if the note was written by Sam could have actually been Sam’s “masterpiece” aka the dovlin he had been trying to perfect for Demi. If so, that would explain why Kevin didn’t die after drinking “poison”.
It would also relate to Kevin from the summer event, in the endings involving Demi if he drinks too much Sea Salt Mocktail, where either he knows the secret to her drink and helps Demi manage the bar or he doesn’t know the secret and stays with her to keep drinking more Sea Salt Mocktail (as he’s now become addicted).
Tumblr media
Maybe Kevin was Sam’s experimental subject to test if he’d perfected his drink before he sends his recipe to Demi. This could fit considering Kevin’s and Jose’s game (game 5) is almost right before Demi’s game (game 6b)

Who sang the song mellow yellow
Tumblr media
What I came back with was not world-shattering, but he liked it. So I said, give me minute, and left the room. He was missing a verse for the tune and asked me to get one in there. : When Paul McCartney paid Donovan a visit – “Another song he sang to me was a little ditty with a chorus about a yellow submarine.I was in the Garden of Eden – no, I was the Garden.” Ever so slowly the Paradise appeared before me. : Talking of his first use of the drug mescaline – “The trip with mescaline is softer than LSD.: On this page, Donovan blesses his readers with an entire list of every famous band/artist that has covered his songs.I was dynamic, obsessed with developing pop style, creating new combinations, mantras for a questing youth.” His lyrics are without equal in all of popular music, but I think musically I am more creative and influential. : Talking about other folksingers – “I was the only other big solo success apart from Dylan.‘He’s not a fake, and he plays better than you.’ Alan was right. : Talking about being in a suite with Alan Price (The Animals keyboardist) and Dylan – “He (Alan) comments directly to Bob on the Donovan-Dylan comparison. Here are several quotes from Donovan in this book: I’m going to let you, my readers, be the judge. By the time he was 24, he dropped out of the music scene all together.Īfter getting about halfway through this far out and psychedelic tour of Donovan’s life and his encounters with The Beatles, Rolling Stone, The Who, Dylan, Hendrix, etc., I decided it would be best if I took a new approach to writing this review as compared to my past ones. He shot to fame in 1965 at the tender age of 19 and is probably best known for his hit single “Mellow Yellow”. Having heard how much so many other Beatles freaks liked his music, I said to my husband, “I’ll give it a shot.”ĭonovan Phillips Leitch was born in Scotland. But the version to look out for must surely be the 1970 recording by Eartha Kitt from her album Sentimental Eartha.Last week, while I was returning my book about Franz Liszt to the local library, I spotted The Autobiography of Donovan: The Hurdy Gurdy Man (2005) by Donovan Leitch on the shelf. The song has been covered at least a dozen times by the likes of Butthole Surfers, Steve Hillage and even Neil from The Young Ones. It's hard to think of another record this side of the Beatles which taps into the 60s zeitgeist so comprehensively. George Harrison wrote a few lines for the song which were not recorded and Donovan now sings the Quiet One’s 'lost verse' when he performs “Hurdy Gurdy Man” live. Eventually the task fell to session player and future Blue Mink guitarist Alan Parker who, under the circumstances (no pressure, then?), played an absolute blinder. Don originally wanted Hendrix to play on the record, but Jimi was unavailable and so was second choice Jimmy Page. It combines elements of everything that made Donovan’s records so beguiling: psychedelic whimsy, eastern influences, otherworldly vocals and a killer guitar solo. Written alongside the Beatles in India during their 1968 visit to study Transcendental Meditation under the Maharishi, “Hurdy Gurdy Man” is a 3-minute psych masterpiece and one of the most original pop singles of the 60s. With so many classics to choose from, picking Donovan’s best track was never going to be an easy task, but after much deliberation I’m opting for this one.

Although it peaked at 59 when it was originally released as a single in 1973, it became a Top 10 single in 1976, peaking at 6, when it was re-released. Written by lead singer Steven Tyler, this blues-influenced power ballad became their first major hit. Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away 'Dream On' is the first single by Aerosmith from their 1973 debut album, Aerosmith. Maybe tomorrow, the good lord will take you away Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears I welcome your input.Īll these lines on my face getting clearer

It could also be viewed as the singer asking the listener to keep working hard until certain goals in life are achieved, "Dream until your dreams come true." Fell free to correct me if you think otherwise. I have few: Steve was so dunk when he wrote this, he just put together two words to complete the chorus. Shocking, isn't it? But I think it's open to your own interpretation. If you do what the "toxic twins" did in the 1970s, you are definitely going to spend some time in a hospital bed. Aerosmith fans should adopt what Aerosmith is saying, not what they do. You can also listen to Aerosmith - Dream on- Lyrics song stream on MP3 Music.

It seems to contradict their drug-heavy rock n' roll life style, but whatever. Download Aerosmith - Dream on- Lyrics 6.13 MB - 04:28 mp3 by LastChild. Singing is the best way to enjoy life? That's what Tyler says :-). "Sing with me, sing for the years/ Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears / Sing with me, just for today" refers to just that. So,as sung in the previous lines, try to enjoy every minute of life. "Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away" states that death could come upon us any minute. So everybody, like the singer himself, kind of has to "go with the flow" and eventually die. "I know nobody knows /Where it comes and where it goes" refers to idea that nobody is intelligent enough to understand life in it's deepest form, and all the attributes of it - aging being one. Instead of saying "time flies", Steven Tyler sings "The past is gone /It went by, like dusk to dawn" with the use of an alliteration. "Every time when I look in the mirror/ All these lines on my face getting clearer" states a person who has come to accept the fact that aging cannot be stopped, and it's a part of life. The song is about the life in general, with an emphasis on the process of aging. In fact, "Dream On" is one of the handful of songs that is recognized as a rock anthem. To this day, it's very popular among rock and pop radio stations. Free printable and easy chords for song by Aerosmith - Dream On. It's also a fan favorite, and according, has become a staple on their liveset. It's simply a masterpiece for a rock duo known as "toxic twins." (Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are referred to as such due to their heavy drug use. It was just a simple comment."Dream On" is a well thought-out, well-written, and well known song by Aerosmith. And I've been an editor for over a year on this site and I've done a lot of work fixing things and I always try to follow the rules.īut don't worry, no one is gonna delete your song.Īnd please try to not insult anyone. You could have added the original song in your collection and then add the additional video you want to show.Īnd I say "we" because we both are members here. But no, we don't do that, we just use the "Also performed by" field. And that would meant, to add dozen of Beatles songs on his profile. Thats why we have the field "Also performed by", where we usually add the different artists that covered the song (or some band member during their solo career).Įxample: With your logic, then I should add all the Beatles songs Paul McCartney performed during his solo career. It is not necessary (and maybe you shouldn't) add a live version just because you want to. The song has never been released on a Steven Tyler's album. You added a song only for the live version of the video.

On Monday the queen is buried, no shops are open, and so my lunch is different. My confused stomach - as wedded to routine as my mind - is making the sound a phone makes when attempting to FaceTime audio somebody
On Tuesday I listen to a woman describing her chronically ill husband ending his life in Switzerland on NPR. At the end of the segment there a number to call if I, the listener, am having suicidal thoughts. I enjoy this distinction between suicides. As though suicide while being an NPR listener outside of Switzerland and before the body has adequately failed me, is an aberration. B later sends me a video of a man cooking chicken in NyQuil (“recipe for my famous NyQuil chicken”) and this, in and of itself, gives me suicidal thoughts
On Wednesday there is a half empty cup of cough medicine and a modest pile of fox faeces waiting for me outside my studio. I find a service online that will have my car collected, serviced, and brought back to me within 8 hours. The car has been a source of neuroses lately that I sort of hope the man collecting my car steals it and I won’t press charges. There is an opening at the gallery and at dinner I eat the sliced equivalent of maybe 9-10 kohlrabis. Aziz Ansari is on a double date elsewhere in the restaurant. I remember now that he got married to a British woman this summer. He hits his glass as though about to make a toast but doesn’t make a toast. I don’t agree with how his pseudo-cancellation a few years ago came about. The publisher of his metoo story, babe.net, also has an article about Glossier extending its foundation range “for the first time”
On Thursday I am visited by memories all the worst things I’ve ever done, and the strangely grim prospect of painting every single day for the next 50 years. What cheers me up is remembering seeing a poem V wrote as a 7-year-old, titled “black”. It begins: black is the colour of mystery in the air, and the colour of Chinese hair. I believe it to be a masterpiece. A boy from Goldsmiths with whom I shared a dorm, and who once went down on me to Limewire rap playlist, attacks me over DM for destroying the environment with my twice-annual flights to the US. I notice I’m only shamed for the fancier parts of my life by Brits. I think they think it’s activism, the way retweeting Jeremy Corbyn is activism. B sends me a news story about mountain goats being airlifted from national parks “because they crave human urine”
Friday I see flowers piling up outside Sainsbury’s and learn that Islington’s friendliest homeless woman, Debbie, has died. Narrowed and toothless from crack and malnourishment, she was so charming and jovial that it was easy to forget where my fistfuls of money would likely end up. And that was Debbie’s prerogative. She would’ve crushed in NA meetings. I stop at the shrine, a cheap inkjet print out of her face sellotaped to the wall, and I feel sick. Later I watch John Mulaney’s latest SNL monologue, making jokes - good, funny jokes - about his own addiction. I read that Elizabeth Moss is a Scientologist, and it casts the character of Peggy Olson, whom I enjoyed so much, in an unpleasant light. Somehow the late Debbie spending my donations on drugs feels less egregious than Elizabeth Moss funnelling her pay check into the pockets of David Miscavige. Nonetheless I wish everyone well, especially the migrants being sent to Martha’s Vineyard by Ron DeSantis as a cruel joke

Album of the Week #30
Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too
(1998)
by New Radicals
Overall Rating: 5.5/10 TL;DR: Oh my god will you shut up already.
Tumblr media
(a little full of himself isn't he. I like the color scheme though 6/10)
Finals week is finally over, which means I finally have time to write a review. That also means that I wrote the notes for this album during finals week, so it is crafted from a place of pure anger at the world. Maybe I was a little mean to New Radicals, but it was therapeutic so I don’t regret a thing.
Overall Thoughts One of my biggest pet peeves in music is the whiny white guy voice, and this album is completely full of it. When you start the album its okay, but as the album continued (its almost an hour long) I felt like I was losing my mind. Truthfully the instrumentation is fine, but the vocals reminded me of every guy I have ever hated. All he sings about is the manic pixie dream girl that he wants and drugs. By song three I was sick of it and wanted a song to be about anything, ANYTHING, other than getting high and wanting a girl that would get high with you. Most of the songs blur together in a stream of electric guitar and whining, and this is usually the part where I would point out which parts stuck out but honestly? Nothing did except the song that everyone knows by them (which is so good I don’t even think it counts as being in this album). Every song is painted by unnecessary falsettos and “huuuuuuhhh” sounds that are weirdly like moaning, and lyrics that make me wish I didn’t speak English. My personal favorite (and one of the few that is not drug related) is from “Someday We’ll Know,” where he sings “did the captain of the Titanic cry” like that is so deep I’m shaking, I’m crying, I’m pissing my pants. Honestly apart from the lyrics that song might be my favorite off of the album (other than the obvious) and it is deservedly the second most famous song of theirs. My least favorite was either “I Hope I Didn’t Give Away The Ending” or “Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too,” with both of them being the epitome of what I ranted about earlier. The first is literally just noice for a minute in a half before the song kicks in, which of course is about doing drugs with some girl. I guess the random noises that hurt my head at the beginning were because they’re high? I don’t care that you smoke weed dude and I really don’t want to listen to you mumbling for a minute and a half. The second is just them mumbling about #deep things while using an echo filter on the vocals and then for the outro doing some “do do do do” sounds. I didn’t like. But wait, there is one good song on this album, the obvious one. “You Get What You Give” is a masterpiece and there’s no way around that. If you are reading this there is an 100% chance you know the song, even if you didn’t know the band or the album it was from. It’s the perfect sing a long song and it has just enough different sections to keep you guessing. It’s just such a shame that it appears on an album with so many annoying duds.
Final Verdict This was kinda therapeutic to write so I guess I’m glad that I ended up reviewing this album? I truthfully can see why someone would like this album, but I can’t stand the mumbly stoner singing and the king of all whiny white guy voices. “You Get What You Give” is a great song though, so I’ll recommend that to anyone who has ever liked a song.

30-Day Movie Challenge here. Part 2/3. Part 1. Part 3.
11. My guilty pleasure movie: Wilde (1997) Fuck toxic boyfriends but young Jude Law was soooo pretty in this, it convinced me that maybe Oscar Wilde had a point when he fell so madly in love with this god awful little brat named Bosie.
12. An underrated movie I want people to watch: Beautiful Boy (2018) It’s not underrated I don’t think, it’s just a lesser known film starring Timothée Chalamet. Aside from Timmy’s phenomenal performance, the message of this movie is really clear and really helpful. Watch this and never, ever do drugs.
13. A movie whose color scheme I love: Amélie (2001) If you know my photography skills you know I’m awful and always use saturation to try to distract you from it. I do like vibrant colors and saturation, and while The Grand Budapest Hotel could have been an obvious choice I just prefer the warm and vibrant colors here in Amélie, the colors themselves just told the story so well.
14. My favorite female director: Emerald Fennell She directed her debut feature length movie (Promising Young Woman) while pregnant with her first child. And it’s a masterpiece that won her an Oscar. Phenomenal work. She’s also one of the screenwriters for Killing Eve, which is amazing as well.
15. A film that discusses mental health: Eighth Grade (2018) Such an important movie (for kids and adults alike) and the way it’s played out is a tad too real, and so well executed. Bo Burnham did a great job on this and he deserves every praise he got from such an outstanding work. The mental health issue that the film discusses: Anxiety in teenagers in a world of social media.
16. A movie I keep coming back to: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010) Every time anyone breathes “comedy” around me, there I am with my “Ooooh you should totally watch Scott Pilgrim”. But really it’s such a clever comedy and I would be offended if you watched with me and didn’t like it :< Not to mention the awesome soundtrack!
17. That mood changer movie: Brokeback Mountain (2005) My heart still aches for these two honestly. And it really did change a whole industry. I wrote about it here.
18. A quote I admire from my favorite movie: Maurice (1987)
“I was yours till death if you’d care to keep me once, but I’m someone else’s now, and he’s mine in a way that shocks you. Why don’t you stop being shocked and attend to your own happiness?”
You know how I feel about Maurice. It is such a shame that this quote is not included in the final cut, but it’s such an important scene. Briefly about the movie: Maurice was gay in the 1910’s England, where homosexuality was a crime punishable by jail time and hard labor. He met Clive who made him discover that about himself, but then Clive decided to conform to societal norms and left to marry a woman. This quote is from the speech (the “fuck you” speech as the fandom likes to call) that Maurice delivered to Clive right before leaving to roam the greenwood with Alec (his new love interest) and never returning. This quote really captures how much Maurice was now sure of himself and knew who he was, which he never had been before, and marks the moment he decided to pursue his own happiness and flip off the entire England with its social stratification and homophobia.
19. A movie based on a true story: Hidden Figures (2016) This movie shone a light onto a story I never knew existed before: Black women’s contribution to freakin’ NASA! All of the three women were so phenomenal and I’m so glad I got to know them through the performances of three equally awesome actresses.
20. My favorite cinematographer: James Ivory I don’t know a lot of cinematographers, but James Ivory used to be an art director, so movies like Maurice and Call Me By Your Name and A Room With A View do have a lot of his touch of art, and I like all of the visuals in these films, so there we go.

Tumblr media
“____, YOU HAVE WRITTEN A BLOODY MASTERPIECE!”
Your entire body stilled.
“I...I did what?”
“Wrote a masterpiece!” He swiped through the pages, lighting up at each word that passed his gaze. “A bestseller! An award winning novel!”
A smile worked its way onto your lips. “You...you really think so?”
Sighing out in exasperation, he set the papers upon the desk as he began to lose his initial anger. “How could you be embarrassed about something so beautiful?” He put his hand on the gold chair, leaning onto its head. “Your descriptions were lovely, the characters are perfectly imperfect. You have really outdone a lot of the writers in circulation.”
Your shoulders sagged a little — almost as if you had been carrying a heavy burden, and this man had taken it off of you.
You made sure he saw your joy when you said, “Thank you, blondie.”
Seeing the pure contentment upon your face had your friend looking away, eyes narrowing to the plans once again.
“There was, however, one thing which needed improvement.”
The setback had you straightening once again, eager to hear. At least he was not sweetening it fully. “Go on.”
“As I was reading through, right till the end, I noticed a lack of very important details.”
That was quite strange. “A lack of?” you asked, when you were so sure that you had added too much of everything.
“Yes.”
His fingers drummed against the velvet of the chair.
“I noticed that there was a deep lack of...passion.”
An incredulous look was your reply. “Passion?”
“Yes, passion. Desire.” He jerked his head towards the papers. “I hardly saw any of those emotions in the book.”
This new information was certainly quite worrying. “But I do not understand,” you started. “My whole novel is based on this relationship, of the love that blossoms and grows—”
“I understand that, darling, I really do,” he said. “I know what you are going to say.”
The drumming continued. “But where is that residing in the chapters? Where is that physical lust implied in the characters?”
Lust.
You had heard of the word before. Heard of its implications, yet never grasped the weight of its meaning. Was it just another form of longing?
If only your mother had given you an education on this side of love.
“What do you mean...lust?”
Hyunjin raised a groomed brow. “What else could I mean, angel?”
The way he voiced that question, that endearment had you parting your mouth, unable to say anything. You tried to speak, to say something to ease the tension which came slithering back into the bedroom.
“I...what were you expecting? From the relationship.”
Curling his locks behind his ear, his gaze became obscure. “You spoke of forbidden love, of...of a coupling which should not be occurring but happened through the fate of the universe. Is that right?”
When you nodded, he carried on. “See, I did not sense that from their exchanges. Their emotions are tame, chaste. An innocence which cannot be tainted.
“Now where is the fun in that?”
You dared not break his gaze. “What is that ‘fun’?”
His eyes seemed to darken. “That ‘fun’ in the relationship is physicality. Where is that in your novel?”
He took a step towards you. “Where are the unbreaking stares? The curious hands, aching to caress another’s? Where are the trembling breaths, the lust-stained sighs that fan lovers’ lips?”
The duke had you craning your neck back as he looked down at you. “Where are the kisses, my darling?”
You gulped. “K-kisses?”
“Yes, kisses,” he repeated softly. “Lips enveloping lips, tasting your inner workings? Travelling to your neck, your collarbone...places which cannot even be whispered in polite society?”
Each part he mentioned had its goosebumps pricking.
The bastard still did not stop. “Where is that passion, ____? Where is that forbidden love, which makes the heart burn wilder?”
And as he descended before you on his knees, hands settling on your lap, you had a feeling swirl up your sides which had never struck you before.
“If I were the man in your book, I would not be tame with you.”
His eyes offered a new, intimidating darkness. “Because if you were my woman, then I do not think I’d control myself. The moment I’d catch the innocence dancing in your eyes, I’d have waltzed it away into my shadows.
“Only God could save you from my hunger, then.”
Silence descended upon the two of you.
One waiting for the other to speak, and the other unable to form the words to do so.
The moon had illuminated your husband, one side of his face glowing like a celestial being, the other side basked in darkness. How strange, when he had compared himself to it just a few moments before.
You seemed unable to look away from him. His gaze, always intense, now became so penetrating you wondered whether he could glance at your soul, quivering from his feedback.
Improvements which you still did not quite comprehend, despite the implications.
Somehow, he could see it on your face. “I have a feeling you still do not grasp the idea. Is that correct?”
A half nod. “I…” God, speak! “I just...I have never understood it, Hyunjin.”
Your head dipped down, darting at the plains of your hands. “You asked me about lust, and I simply cannot answer because I do not know. I have never experienced such emotion.
“Hell, I have not witnessed a single action that you spoke of. How could you expect me to write of desires I have never even felt?”
This.
This was unchartered territory. This was a terrain you had not explored with him.
Yes, he was your best friend. But one does not talk of such...dangerous conservation when your best friend happens to be a man — a complete rake, at that.
It seemed as if the rake, too, was thinking the same.
His legs, a force which had never let him down, threatened to buckle under him. His mouth opened, only for silence to answer you.
Lord and all His subjects help him. He did not think he could contain it any longer.
And as his eyes exposed you, vulnerable before him, he only knew of one thing — one fact within this ocean of uncertainty you swam in.
He would jump into the waters for you. But not in the notion to haul you out to safety.
No, the duke would drag you down further, with him as your sole saviour.
Or even your destroyer. Your fated undoing.
For the Duke of Hastings will absolutely ruin you, body and soul.
“Hyunjin?”
A blink.
A singular action, dragging him back to dark, dark reality — sweeter than his fantasies as it sat before him, shy and wide-eyed.
An innocent reality all for him to defile.
“Yes, angel?”
You tried not to shudder at his lilting whisper. “How am I to be helped?”
The man did not even think of the possibilities, to your surprise.
If only you knew, how long he had kept them hidden for.
“How about...how about I assist you?”
Confusion washed over your features. “And how would you assist me, Hyunjin? You have never written a novel.”
His answer was a chuckle, revealing slight glimpses of his teeth as he stood.
“That is true, yes.”
Sitting down beside you, he planted his hands behind him on the bed, leaning into the position.
“But what I can provide aid for is the one feature you lack in your writing.”
His voice right behind gave you a fright.
“Pure, raw lust.”
Looking over yourself, you watched him reclined in ease. Your speech was uneven as you said, “And...and how will you help me with that?”
“Simple, my darling.” A pause, looking you over. “I shall provide you with examples. Show you what truly happens between a man and woman when all they yearn for is each other.”
He saw the further questions in your gaze. The questions you dared not voice out loud, perhaps dared not understand.
Smirking, he sat himself up, eyes never leaving yours as his hands encircled your own, bunched up in your dress. As his fingers brushed against your linen he felt his skin go aflame.
“If, of course, you would let me.”
Tilting your head slightly upwards, you sensed a foreign warmth envelop your face, burning at the sight of your friend studying you like an empty canvas, begging to be filled.
Maybe you were an empty sheet of paper, waiting to be painted with guidance by the master. Maybe that master was beside you all along.
“What will you do to me, Hyunjin?”
There it was. The question which may have been his drug — his purest form of opium.
Because when his hands travelled upwards, sliding to your face and imprisoning you with his stare, he knew he would become addicted.
A shame he did not care for his well-being when you were so fucking tempting.
“Show you what real passion tastes like.”

DaveFarts - Episode 13 “When She Finally Leaves” [Episode List] Dana spends the whole day at Dave’s place. When the girl leaves, Tim, who’s now Dave’s roommate, finds out how much gas a man can hold in just to not look gross in front of a girl.
When She Finally Leaves
In the last few weeks I’ve been spending more and more nights at Dave’s place, whether because I needed a place to work, write my essays, or simply to spend some quality time watching bad films and drinking beer. It was Dave himself to ask me to “marry him” (as he jokingly put it), basically becoming official roommates, which also meant dividing our tasks and obviously splitting the rent.
And honestly we were having a great time. We both had jobs, fortunately, which were not much but they did pay taxes for now and it was overall a great experience. Friend or not, Dave is an excellent roommate, being pretty good at cooking and organising chores; the same could be said for me actually, though in some cases we have our own preferences; for example Dave prefers cooking (the fact that I’m bad at it it’s purely coincidental) so we agreed I’ll be the one doing the dishes.
We also had our buds crashing over what is now *our* place a couple of times, which resulted in more bad films and beer, or even nerd stuff such as gaming together. Of course however, the person who most often came over is obviously Dana, Dave’s girlfriend. She’s pretty cool though we don’t really hang out with her when Dave’s not around, though as I said she’s pretty easy-going.
Tonight we’ve been watching a trash movie. Yes, the three of us. Don’t worry, I was a welcome addition today. Dave would usually just tell me to leave for a few hours if sex was on the table (sometimes literally on the table, the one where we eat our food…) as we respect each others enough to just be straightforward whenever we needed some privacy. Tonight however it was just chilling like three friends hanging out together (knowing however that Dave would just give me a signal should things get more heated up you know).
We were in the living room. I was on an armchair, working on my laptop, despite the poor wi-fi. On the long wide couch beside me, Dave and Dana chilling and watching the movie with more attention than me, my bud’s left arm around his girlfriend, sometimes making remarks on how bad it was. We all had a can of beer, because of course we did.
The couple brought some takeouts for dinner, some fast-food a few blocks from here (Dana’s idea, actually, which we were both thankful for). Dave, chilling next to Dana, was wearing his signature casual outfit: a grey shirt and pair of dark blue loose jeans, details that my gay-ass eyes immediately noticed and more than once stared at.
“Oh wow the helicopter just blew up I’m speechless.” Dave said, sarcastically.
“A Subversive Masterpiece: that’s what they were going for when they wrote this.” Dana added, and they both chuckled.
I also did my fair share of sarcastic remarks though work got most of my attention, even though it was nothing urgent, just me trying to get some stuff done as fast as possible.
“Did the shark just wink at him?” my bro commented.
“They’re best friends now.” his girlfriend explained. What a great film.
After 15 more minutes the movie ended with the three of us clapping at a shot of a man and a shark exchanging a look of gratitude to each other, as the Sun set into the never-ending ocean. Drugs played a big role into the making of this move I’m 100% sure.
“Well, that was enlightening, but I gotta head back home. The Uber’s almost here.” Dana said, as she got up and reached for her purse and some other stuff.
“You’re really sure about that? Come on, stay here for the night.” Dave suggested. “I taught Tim to play dead. We can throw food at him.” he then joked.
“I can also bring you the newspaper upstairs, tomorrow morning.” I played along.
Dana chuckled in response. “I’m sure you’ll win the next contest you two, but I gotta wake up super early tomorrow.”
The couple walked towards the front door. The entrance was next to the living room, a few steps behind the couch. Dave and I sometimes darkly joked that any assassin could easily ambush us because whenever we’re on the couch anyone could sneak into the house behind us, with enough care (we then prefer to drink about it).
“Call me when you get home.” Dave said and the two shared a quick kiss.
In the meantime I moved on the bigger (and more comfortable) couch, more or less in Dana’s spot, as I also have better wi-fi reception there. I left my laptop on the small table in front of me because apparently all of my laptops have to be shitty and take some time to even the most basic stuff. As I inspected the wi-fi icon flashing on the screen, I heard Dave shutting the door and walking back to the couch. After a few steps his tall figure was already towering over me.
“Yeah the reception is pretty bad lately.” he commented, and then collapsed next to me.
Only a few seconds and he already had that well-known smirk drawn on his face; he then quickly adjusted his position. He completely laid down, extended his demin-clad legs, with his left one resting on the back of the couch, ending right behind my neck. In a moment, Dave ended up showing off his loose, almost-sagging jeans-clad ass directly next to me, as his legs trapped me into a gentle yet strong grip. Seeing both that “wall” made of jeans and my bro’s smirk at the same time was a sight I never truly got used to. He was just lying there, next to me, with his ass pointed at me, as if it was one big prank, even though he knew exactly how much I enjoyed that.
“Bro you’re ready?” he asked, still sporting that smirk.
When even Dave goes as far as asking me if I’m ready, then I knew that the fart was going to be gargantuan. And I realized why: Dana has been with us and my bro the entire day, so it’s possible that Dave just held all of his gas in for hours. We all experienced this, then when the girl leaves, men get to “relax”. Other than that, Dave had tons of beer and junk food. I stared at that denim butt, for the first time almost scared of what my bud was capable of; I knew a fart was coming, and I knew it was going to be big.
But what Dave said next really once again confirmed how chill he is around me.
“Believe me: you might want to get closer for this one.” he said, laughing a bit.
He sported weirdly reassuring smile, Dave’s millionth attempt at saying “It’s ok, Tim.” as he probably noticed now nervous I became when he assumed that pose.
The teasing bastard then went full bully on me and simply reached for my head with his long right arm and gently pulled me down, as if I was bowing to that still silent denim-clad ass. I just heard him laugh like an idiot, as it usually happens. Despite my head being down and in front of that ass, I could still see Dave’s face and that smirk. He raised his eyebrows and half-closed his eyes as he started pushing, but he didn’t need to put all that effort into ripping that blast.
It’s like the fart was barely contained in the first place: it immediately exploded with a loud sound right into my face. Dave closed his eyes and kept his smirk as the blast probably surprised him as well. It was low-pitched and dry, a completely natural gas-eruption that sounded like an engine. The stench was unbearable, a mixture of beer and junk food, surprise to no one.
While farting, Dave adjusted his position as bit, spreading his legs bit more, with my face getting almost planted into that denim-clad butt as he effortlessly kept ripping that immense flatulence. Hours and hours of gas being erupted as if I was in front of a dormant volcano that just woke up. And I feared that “hours” was what he was going for ‘cause after 20 seconds the fart didn’t even lose power.
Dave still had this smirk drawn on his face and occasionally stared down at me as he completely destroyed my face and nose with his incredible farting skills, skills that constantly let me speechless, fetish or not. He was the fart master, a showoff with a manly talent that I could only bow to and endure in the hop-
“Sorry, I forgot my house keys.”
The fart immediately stopped and it all went silent: It was Dana.
Dave turned his head to his girlfriend, greeting her with the stupidest smile you can think of.
“Oh stay there no worries, they’re right here.” I heard Dana say as she reached for keys, probably hanging right next to the door, my face still almost planted in my friend’s denim ass. That felt surreal.
I completely froze (not that I could move) but I knew that she couldn’t see me (just like I couldn’t see her) as I was lying down. All she could see from where she was standing was Dave’s head and his right leg resting on the back of the couch, since the entrance was behind our couch.
I was terrified, while Dave was doing his best not laugh like an idiot.
“What’s so funny?” Dana asked, laughing a bit herself, definitely noticing her boyfriend being weird.
My teasing bro quickly glanced down at me, almost losing it (and still holding holding the fart in, which didn’t stop the smell from burning my nostrils).
“N-nothing’” he stuttered. That’s it, he was gonna laugh like an idiot.
“Okay” I heard Dana, not really convinced of the boyfriend’s answer though.
There was a moment of awkward silence and then we heard a car honk, thank goodness.
“Oh… it’s my Uber. Bye!” the girl said, quickly leaving the house and shutting the door behind her.
Another moment of silence followed, Dave still staring at the entrance. I was shaking, I was legitimately scared that someone was gonna find out, which was weird given the hotness I was experiencing in that moment, even without the fart being ripped.
“Ok… where were we?” Dave asked, turning back to me, with a smirk. “Oh yeah!”
And he effortlessly resumed farting, just as loud, proud and powerful as it was before the interruption, directly into my face. The terror I experienced moments before was blown away by that incredibly blast and me being rock-hard, as it usually happens when Dave showoffs his gassy talent around me, or on me.
Dozens of seconds passed and at this point Dave just played along. He nodded at me, faking a serious expression, as if he was listening to something actually interesting instead of his own loud fart still going on strong; after about ten more seconds he checked the time on his wrist-watch and acted surprised, then stared down at me as if he wanted to say “damn that is long!”. We both however actually lost the track of time and he simply relaxed as if I wasn’t even in front of his ass, all while the fart was still being blasted in my face.
Dave then reached for my head again and gently pushed it inches closer to his roaring ass, and I felt the vibrations of his rip all over my face: it was literally an earthquake.
How long was it lasting? More than 1 minute perhaps? How much gas can a man hold in? Dave certainly was pushing for a record. All I knew is that I felt privileged witnessing that, even though I was beyond being a mere witness since no particle of gas missed my eyes and nostrils.
However (finally, actually), the fart seemingly started to lose power, the once-continuous sound starting to “stutter” and turning more into a fast series of loud farts, fired back-to-back. The show (because that’s what it was: a show) ended with a loud, 5 seconds blast, and Dave’s laughter.
I slowly got up, sweaty, my nose burning, with a startled look to which my bro reacted with another immature cackle. I was now sitting next to him as I was before, and looked back at my bud, who in the meantime re-adjusted his pose. He was still lying down, still kind of showing off his loose-sagging ass, but in a less “menacing” way: now he was just chilling.
“When’s Dana coming over again?” I joked. I mustered all the courage I had left to say that. I was impressed by the fact that I could still speak considering that all of my blood probably flooded my boner at that point.
Dave laughed at that lame joke, thank goodness. “As if I need Dana to blast you like this.”
He raised one leg, again showing off his sagging denim ass in my direction. He quickly sucked some air in and after a few moments and weird noises a loud 6 seconds fart erupted. For his standards, that’s basically a weak one.
My friend just casually joking and bragging about facefarting me and then farting on command to prove it made me lose it, as I felt my boner… dampening. He didn’t notice it but he knew that I had a hard-on, that’s for sure.
I didn’t want to just rush into the bathroom so I just stared at my laptop, still on the table, in front of me: the wi-fi signal was stronger than ever. I jokingly like to think that Dave’s blast was so powerful it actually influenced the signal somehow and improved it.
I turned to my bud, still lying on his side of the couch, just checking his phone and being… casually hot.
“Thanks man.” I said, not for the wi-fi though.
He lowered his phone, revealing a blank reaction “Really?” he said, rolling his eyes, with a bored expression. “Stop being cringe and do the dishes.”
Fuck, I totally forgot about those. We had takeout food but we still used some of our dishes. I immediately got up and rushed to the kitchen, hoping that Dave was distracted by his phone enough to not notice by boner through my sweatpants.
Once in the kitchen, a place that wasn’t tainted by Dave’s gas, my nostrils could still feel my bro’s fart-stench. That’s how soaked up in his gas I was. Even my ears needed some time to adjust to the silence, now that I didn’t have a deafening fart being ripped right into my skull.
And I just knew that this wasn’t the last time this was gonna happen. I’m Dave’s roommate, and being roomies means we have to divide our tasks: he’s the farter, I’m the sniffer.

Work of Art
Summary: You're an artist, and you've had quite a few muses throughout your life, though you might be partial to a few.
Notes: Hi!!! This is a short blurb that I wrote the other day!! It starts out kind of angsty, but it's really cute toward the end. Hope you like it!
Warnings: mentions of drug use, mentions of cheating
WC: 883
Tumblr media
You had had many muses throughout your life.
The first was your childhood home. A typical house in suburbia, it might have seen average or unexciting to the naked eye. But to you, it was everything. It held the kitchen where you baked cakes with your mom, the living room where you and your older sister played dress up, and the music room where your dad taught you the drums. It was where you had your first dog, where you and your childhood best friend would run around in blankets with sticks calling yourselves Jedi, and where you experienced all of the joys and pains of growing up. The setting sun would always paint the cornfield in your backyard with shades of red, pink, and orange. Whenever you weren’t overtaken by the emotions that attached you to your home, you could just sit on the patio and paint the sky over and over again. The gray of the outside walls hid the secret of your most beautiful memories.
The second was your first lover. You fell in love when you were just 16. High school sweethearts, just like your parents. He did everything right. He held the door for you when you got into the passenger side of his car. He wrote you cheesy love poems just to hear you laugh. You would often find yourself coloring the chocolate brown of his eyes, or scanning over a sketch of a pair of hands, making sure the calluses matched his. You had believed he was your forever and always; that in ten years, you would have two kids and a white picket fence of your own. But when you left for art school, you found out that he gave all of the love you handed him to another. Suddenly, the drawings you had made of him were stained with a bitterness you weren’t sure you would ever be able to shake.
The third was the psychedelic kaleidoscope you experienced nearly every night. Your passion for art in college could only be matched by the desperate need for the drugs your roommates brought home from their midnight excursions. Everything in your life had become as dark as the sketchy alleyways behind your apartment. You couldn’t find inspiration in anything; the football thrown across the field at halftime reminded you of the lover who was never truly yours, the twinkle in your roommate’s ocean blue eyes made you think of the life that had left your father’s, and the stars that twinkled above the city at night made you long for the times where you laid in your backyard, starting at the night sky with your childhood best friend, in whose brain you had become but a passing thought. Every night, you would swallow a pill, just so you could find something to live for. The trippy patterns and bright colors of your trips would be etched into your skull, and first thing the next morning, they would be on paper. You knew it was bad, but you couldn’t bring yourself to stop. Not when it numbed the pain.
The fourth was your true love. The deep brown of his curly locks were complimented by the deep green of his eyes. The clunky rings on his long fingers were often the subject of your drawings, with a particular fondness for the wedding band on his left ring finger. His cherry lips were another common subject of yours; whether turned up in a dimpled grin, down in a rare frown, or belting the lyrics to a brand new lyrical masterpiece. You loved to draw him singing. Whether his hands were plucking the strings of a guitar, or he was prancing around the largest arenas in the world, the passion in his eyes was what kept you hooked. One of your favorites of him was when he was asleep in your lap, another when he was holding your hand while meandering down the beach, and yet another was modeled after a picture of his bare back with angry, red scratches down the length of it from the passionate night before. Though signing your works as “Styles” had been a strange change at first, you knew that it had been the best decision you had ever made.
The final muse was the sparkling green eyes of your daughter. She was the spitting image of her father, all sweet smiles, soft giggles, and pure love. More often than not, your drawings of her included your ebony cat snuggled up in her lap. Her gentle nature was reflected in the soft lines your pencils danced across the pages. You sketched the vibrant purples of her flower crowns, the blues of her favorite light up sneakers, and the browns of her long, curly hair. Your favorite picture of her, though, was when she was seated in your husband’s lap while he guided her tiny hands across the strings of his guitar. Your final two muses were your undeniable favorites. Even though most of the art you did was for work now, you always found time to sketch your perfect little family. They were the most beautiful works of art that no medium of your creation would ever be able to touch. But you would capture them for the rest of your life.

pete asking paul if he’ll join the band: “a full minute passed while paul pretended to give the matter careful thought: “oh, all right.” he finally shrugged.”
mimi slamming the door in paul’s face whenever john wasn't there to stop her
george just pushing himself into the band because he wanted to be there
paul, george, and john wearing buckets on their head and marching around on paul’s roof to make fun of pete’s cadet graduation ceremony
one night after julia’s death pete found john completely passed out drunk on a bus and found out that he had been on it for hours. he took him home and tucked him into bed.
john saying that he wrote in my life with pete and stuart in mind
cynthia scolding john for saying something outrageous and then john saying something even more outrageous
the quote, “john bamboozled his new soulmate” in reference to making stuart use his art show money to buy a bass
brian epstein asking if pete wanted to come back to his house for sex and pete turning him down but following with, “no offense taken. actually, i take it as a compliment!”
calling ringo a runt
“what’s a fucking wank between friends anyways?” - pete shotton
brian having a reminder of “haircut for george” on his desk because he was in charge of their grooming needs
john giving pete one of his big beatles paychecks so he had money for christmas
john asking pete “isn't he lovely?” when first meeting julian
john screaming “hi pete!” at a show because he told the staff to let him know whenever pete arrived
john hated to be touched and especially by strangers
john wanted to open his book in his own write with a dedication to pete saying “to pete, who got it first.” but didn't want to hurt mimi’s feelings so he drew a caricature of pete at the beginning and that’s how he dedicated it to him secretly
pete telling john he would never go to a interviewer and talk about john for money. (he only talked to two authors about john. hunter davies, who he asked john for permission for, and philip norman. who told pete that he was only writing a book about liverpool pop music)
cynthia and john getting in an argument because she wanted a porsche and john said they're too dangerous
paul was the beatle that was the hardest to get close to
george’s proudest possession was a painting by bob dylan and he had a guitar shaped pool
“there never was, and probably never will be, a group more self contained or tightly knit than the beatles were in those days..”
john loved a good pun joke
john loved hanging out with the monkees and micky dolenz was the craziest one
“the only thing john hated more than going to bed at night was getting out of it the next day.” MOOD.
john would literally read every single page of the newspaper
he once saw a tv program talking about autistic kids and donated 1,000 pounds to an autistic foundation
john making a random guest give him their sgt pepper album so pete could get one
the beatles almost showed up to brian’s memorial service in bright colorful clothes for “good vibes”
tw suicide: john was convinced brian committed suicide
george telling pete he use to think he was a “bad influence” on john
paul thought magical mystery tour was going to be a big masterpiece
at beatles financial meetings: paul doodling, john high on lsd, ringo asleep in the corner, george actually paying attention
bill turner (childhood friend of theirs) telling paul he didn't like hello, goodbye and paul being taken back by that
the beatles bought pete a car (jaguar to be specific)
john was very insecure around girls and never knew if they liked him or not
john thinking his housekeeper would assume him and pete were having sex because they were laying next to each other
pete was actually happy at first when john and yoko got together because john was happy
any time john and pete would be laughing together yoko would silence John
the beatles had to constantly tell ringo he was the best rock drummer in the world before he agreed to join the band again
paul asking pete if hey jude or revolution should be on the A side, pete saying hey jude, and then paul immediately screaming to john that pete picked his song over john’s.
there was so many arguments with yoko that would have to be another post itself but i will say it’s awful
george running after the press in his backyard because he took a photo of him while the police chase george around to arrest him for possession of drugs
“remember pete, they can't kill you for speaking your mind.” - john lennon
when pete found out about john’s death he went to visit george
“on the drive back home, memories of john flooded into my head. what a life, i thought.” <3

heyyy, this is my first ask ever on this page so I'm not exactly sure how to start this, so ill just get right to it from one jonesy/zeppelin stan to another.
Robert apparently wrote Carouselambra about him being frustrated with Jonesy and Jimmy not being there for him after his son karac passed away,,, the song itself is great inho, it's my favorite off of ittod besides in the evening. The situation was tragic enough on it own, but it also put a huge strain on the relationships between the band members, it seems like. I can't pretend I know a whole lot about that part of their history in particular, just wanted to hear your take on it.
Hello my dear!! Welcome to my asks! I hope it is a cozy and pleasant experience. You are always welcome, no matter how inane, as I myself am the queen of inanity (I'm claiming it here and now folks).
Tumblr media
^^ look at these boys in their 30s (36, 34, and almost 32 respectively, dear god)
In Through the Out Door is generally pretty fascinating. 'Carouselambra' in and of itself I think is one of those tracks that if it had been deeper into the canon (as if Zep had been able to make more albums), it would have been openly considered a masterpiece. That's actually how I feel about the whole album, but...instead, it causes consternation.
The track itself is one of my favorites as well. It's like Space Jam but everyone's on drugs and having a midlife crisis and WOW it's good. The actual inspiration for the track, as you say, I think was a combination of the highs and lows of Zeppelin and this includes Karac's death and the aftermath. 'Carouselambra' was originally called 'The Epic' -- I like to imagine the epic poetry it was being likened too and if epic poetry was still written and consumed the way we consume Homer and Virgil, that Zeppelin would be a perfect candidate. 'Tales of Brave Ulysses' could never.
The general consensus is that 'The Epic' was renamed 'Carouselambra' because that's what being in Zeppelin was like. Around and around on this gaudy mechanical and in the process these tragic things were happening and you only got fast glances at them or missed out on important things. And in the case of Karac, I'm sure Robert was grappling with the fact he just wasn't around (and I believe he's said as much).
This culminating with Jonesy and Jimmle not being at the funeral, which at the time, Robert had apparently said to Richard Cole, “Maybe they don’t have as much respect for me as I do for them. Maybe they’re not the friends I thought they were.”
Which is understandable! I mean, anyone that close to you dying, let alone a child. You would want your friends there (...if Robert considered Jonesy a "friend" to me is debatable considering his supposed tongue-in-cheek offer to Lita Ford to be the bassist for Zep in '77, but I'm just a bitter Jonesy stan (and I have plenty of theories and ideas about the Jones/Plant dynamic)). From what I've read, Jonesy was on family holiday, I imagine continuing with Maureen and the girls in the RV they rented for the second leg of the '77 tour -- he stole away after the Oakland debacle and drove it up to Seattle (this is from a glancing in Mick Wall's When Giants Walked the Earth, which I'm currently reading). Can that man get any more precious? And Jimmy was...Jimmy, heroin and all, although he's been quoted saying "We were all mates. We had to give the man some space.”
Potentially illustrating this, Robert commented on this in 2005: “The other guys were [from] the South [of England] and didn’t have the same type of social etiquette that we have up here in the North that could actually bridge that uncomfortable chasm with all the sensitivities required … to console.”
By ITTOD, though, we have our "relatively clean" camp friends Jones and Robert leading the charge and, I hope, having some good heart to hearts and enjoying each others' company. I really do wish we had more from that time, of that dynamic because I think it's a really interesting blip on the timeline given their distance mostly (I believe Robert said in 1971 that he had just started becoming friends with Jonesy, which I don't find hard to believe considering their opposite natures).
And then you get 'Carouselambra', all the nonsense and the mayhem boiled down into "why the fuck are we doing this"-edness. The kids are getting older, the tour is now a slog, and now you've got back pain. Kind of a sad carousel at the end of the day. “The whole story of Led Zeppelin in its latter years is in that song, and I can’t hear the words," Plant said, regarding how his voice is mixed lower than the keyboard in the first half. And there they were, in their 30s, and punk was on the rise and let's be honest, rock n' roll has never been a "middle years" kind of game.
But TO ME, that adds to the theatricality, to the idea that everything WAS getting lost and muddled. It's a brilliant, most likely unanticipated homage in my mind and Led Zeppelin WAS theatrical for as much as it was about the music, it was about the mythos and fable as well.
As a side note, I really hate how ITTOD is talked about for the most part as this like "lame keyboard album" when in fact, if Zeppelin had continued, it would serve as an LZ III/HotH vibe to me in that they could do whatever they want so they did and wow it was great. That's just my opinion, though, and I can definitely chalk it up to bias and also my love for Jonesy's post-Zeppelin work that really showcased just how fucking marvelous he is.
oh my god this got so long how did this get so long
This is just my take...I'm sure many people would be ready to contest what I have to say and that's just fine. 'Southbound Saurez' is one of my favorite Zep tracks and I stand by it.
I hope this was worth the time, lovely. Thank you for appearing in the asks and I hope you return someday. It was really lovely to take a journey into the more "academic" side of Zep...turns out I know quite a bit and I'm pretty good at rustling through the interwebs to find all the quotes I wanted to locate!
Feel free to correct me or engage in discourse kindly. I don't have time for negativity, I just turned 26 after all.
let it be known this is literally 950 words

I've been finally getting into rebetiko so I was wondering if you could give me some recs? M' aeroplana Kai Vaporia is my fav song and gives me chills, and so does To Minore Tis Avgis from the softer ones. And could you point me towards info for its history & culture? Due to my personal circumstances the Smyrna aspects in particular is something I want to reconnect with. Note I'm Greek so I don't need English info I I'm just writing in english for accessibility in case people are interested
REBETIKOOO ah my favourite genre!!! (along with entechno) I am gonna add English info if you don’t mind.
Μ’αεροπλάνα και βαπόρια (With planes and ships) is one of my favourite songs too! Perhaps you already know this but fun fact: Savvopoulos was dreaming for a long time to write a proper rebetiko. So when he got Sotiria Bellou to sing his song he could hardly contain himself. When Bellou got out of the studio after she had finished recording the song, she told him “I ripped your “pops” and “rocks” apart”. After that, Savvopoulos never attempted to write rebetiko again. Now, to be fair, the song IS rebetiko but with an obvious entechno and soft rock flair :)
Since you like Bellou, here are other great classics from her:
Μη μου ξαναφύγει πια (Don’t leave me no more)
Συννεφιασμένη Κυριακή (Cloudy Sunday)
Δε λες κουβέντα (You don’t say a word) (this is actually laiko bordering on soft rebetiko)
Tumblr media
And since you also like Το μινόρε της αυγής some songs of Markos Vamvakaris, the dad of rebetiko (he was the one who made it mainstream and exculpated it):
Φραγκοσυριανή (Lady from Syros)
Τα ματόκλαδα σου λάμπουν (Your eyelashes are shining) For a less heavy approach, it is also great by Giannis Poulopoulos.
Τα ζηλιάρικα σου μάτια (Your jealous eyes)
Tumblr media
And now a short history of Rebétiko.
Rebetiko is a music genre that first appeared in the late 19th Century and at the first three decades of the 20th Century it had reached the familiar sound we know today. It flourished amongst the Greeks of Asia Minor, mostly the low and working class. When the population exchange between Greece and Turkey took place in 1922, the 1,5 million Greek refugees who arrived at Greece brought many things, including rebetiko. In the beginning, the rapid influx of over a million people made the Greek citizens basically hostile towards them. The Greek refugees were severely marginalized and they survived and flourished in the underground scene. Rebetiko was considered provocative, shocking as, besides love, it often also addressed the struggles and little joys of marginalized people (poverty, prison, drugs, prostitution, life in the streets in general etc). Rebetiko was censored by the regime of Metaxas in 1936. In 1940, during the Nazi Occupation, rebetiko became a resistance genre against the Nazis and that helped it find wide acceptance amongst all Greeks by the early 50s. Since then, rebetiko has become an “untouchable” of Greek (and not only) genres and even Mikis Theodorakis (arguably the best or runner-up Greek composer of all time) once said: “We (the composers) are all just branches of a tree and that tree is Markos Vamvakaris” (the aforementioned dad). Rebetiko music is now part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Aaaand some more recs!
1) Some very old
Τα παιδιά της γειτονιάς σου (The kids of your neighborhood) Actually folk Minor Asian of the late 19th century that was rebetised around the 20s. The version I linked is recent cos I love it)
Μισιρλού (Misirlu - Egyptian girl) Song from 1927. The main theme of Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction is a cover of this song. Black Eyed Peas also did a cover.
2) Some hardcore ones, like the Hashish songs (yep that’s an actual subcategory of rebetiko)
Ένας μάγκας στο Βοτανικό (A man of the streets at Votanikos) Sung entirely in a made up street slang Greek dialect.
Το πιτσιρικάκι (The kiddo)
Έμαθα πως είσαι μάγκας (I heard you are a street man)
Στην υπόγα (At the basement) I love the original 30′s version. The melody written and performed by Kostas Bezos was then remastered by him and led to the super famous ---->
Παξιμαδοκλέφτρα (Rusk thief) The dude who made the video for this song is my idol. I wonder what people who don’t speak Greek make of it lmao
Η προσευχή του μάγκα (The street man’s prayer)
3) And some more mainstream:
Βρέχει στη φτωχογειτονιά (It’s raining over the slum)
Με παρέσυρε το ρέμα (The river took me)
Απόψε στις ακρογιαλιές (Tonight at the beach)
Ακρογιαλιές δειλινά (Beaches and sunsets) I’m linking the Imam Baildi version.
Είμαστε αλάνια (We are street kids (?) )
Που ‘σαι Θανάση; (Where are you Thanasis?) Okay I am cheating a bit here because this is a laiko song but I INSIST it has a rebetiko flair also I am obsessing over it today
4) Instrumental
Τα ωραία του Τσιτσάνη (Tsitsanis’ nice tunes) Basically Vasilis Tsitsanis killing it.
Ζεϊμπέκικο της Ευδοκίας (A zeibekiko for Evdokia) Our unofficial national anthem shouldn’t be missing from this list. Fun fact: This was to be a full song. When Manos Loizos (the very famous composer) gave the melody to Lefteris Papadopoulos (very famous lyricist) refused to write any lyrics because he was sure this would destroy the song. And of course he was right.
youtube
5) Last BUT NOT LEAST, everything written by Stavros Xarchakos for the movie Rebetiko.
I give you my three favourites. But, like, I recommend all the movie basically.
Καίγομαι, καίγομαι (I am burning, I am burning)
youtube
Στου Θωμά το μαγαζί (At Thomas’ shop)
youtube
And for last, I saved the song that freezes my blood, sung by the man himself. Flirts heavily with entechno genre. This was Xarchakos’ only appearance on the silver screen.
Το πρακτορείο (The bus station)
youtube
I think I covered you well XD but in general Markos Vamvakaris and Vasilis Tsitsanis  wrote many masterpieces for rebetiko you can find. Xarchakos did too in this movie (but he generally composed more laiko and entechno). You can find a lot of good stuff.  Happy listening!
P.S I was double checking whether Βρέχει φωτιά στη στράτα μου is laiko or rebetiko (I’m stupid I know) and this is the genre Google gave me for Stratos Dionysiou:
Tumblr media
As we speak, Dionysiou is rolling in his grave. I’ve never seen a disgrace like this before XD

Cogito, ergo sum
Chapter: 2
Pairing: Connor (RK800) x fem!reader
A/N: Hey guys! I want to apologise for the long wait between chpaters but seeing as I’m on my last year of college my school work is coming before everything else so it’s a little hard working between them! Don’t worry, I’m not dropping this series or anything just expect chapters to take a little long to be loaded and everything! Also, this chapter seems a little too far paced for me, so sorry about that as well!
Tags at the bottom once again!
I do not own Detroit become human this is merely fanficion
Warnings: Bad language, physical assault, threats (?), hints of abuse, (Name) being weird like always, also angry (Name), mentions of drugs, there’s a bit of slander against drug abusers that I do not condone!
Tumblr media
Undercut babes!
It’s fascinating, it really is, the way her beautiful gaze follows you as you round her, studying her feverishly, your eyes wide and bright.
She’s...well, words cannot describe her. Her beauty lies beyond your imagination and you’re not quite equipped to say anything that her magnificent ears deserve to hear, your words are below her and she’s just-
Wow.
“Ms (Last), please-”
You raise your hand towards the younger engineer, silencing with a small utter of ‘hush’ and he’s shutting his mouth, falling back to the side of your desk with not much else to say.
The android you’ve been un-shamelessly ogling for the past 10 solid minutes is still very quiet, she’s just watching you in her manufactured attire, shy, nervous, scared- everything you really wish she wasn’t right now because there is no way you want her to see you as some sort of threat, far from it.
“Henry” Turning back towards the engineer, he stiffs up like a board, sweat forming on his brow “Why didn’t you dismantle her?”
It’s rude, it’s horrible to say and it sours your mouth when you form those words, but it’s an honest question, you want to know why someone would do this, keep her alive, see her for all her glory.
The public spoke strongly about their opinions of androids, like toys to be played with, slaves to be worked, not the thing you so desperately wanted people to see them as. The masterpieces that stood beyond human comprehension.
The android lets out a noise similar to a whimper as Henry stammers out.
“I-I couldn’t she- um- I-” Finally, he sighs with frustration, Henry makes eye contact with you “She said was scared and...I couldn’t”
You snap back to face her.
“Is that true?”
She hesitates, one second, two seconds, three seconds, four- it takes a whole 30 seconds before she’s finally responding. “Yes…”
Your chest bursts in excitement.
“You’re incredible” Henry deflates in relief, placing a hand against your desk while you grasp her cheeks, her warm grey eyes glancing between your two hands then meet your own stare, confused. “Amazing, beautiful, fantastic, so, so much more”
“...thank you”
You sniff, then you’re pulling away, trying to keep your tears abay. You really can’t believe that your work has gone so far, that new forms of sentient are evolving from a human’s hand, you’re so overjoyed by it all but you’re also kind of realising how weird you’re being.
“Sorry, I’m becoming the creepy stereotypical scientist, let me just-” Pulling off your lab coat, you throw it over her shoulders, pulling it tighter around her for her dainty hands to grasp and hold, a smile growing on her face in gratitude. You’re really still in awe of it all but send her a giddy smile back “Henry get Kamski I’m sure he’s gonna love this”
When the man disappears, closing the office door behind him, you guide her to a chair, kneeling before her kindly.
“Tell me” She waits patiently for you to continue “What’s your name?”
When she opens her mouth, you interrupt her, grasping her hands “No, not the name you were given, the name you have chosen. What is your name?”
You’re at the beginning of history right here, you can already see the books that are yet to be written, all starting at this very moment, with you and her. This android, this amazing, piece of living metal, is the start of something great and you can’t wait to be a part of it.
“My name is….”
-----------
“(Name), I’m sorry, but there isn’t really anything I can do”
Your hands come down on the desk, expression unbelieving.
“But he attacked Ortiz in self defence, it’s not fair for him to be shipped to Cyberlife! That hellhole already has enough test subjects with other deviants, why can’t he be let go!?” Pushing yourself back up, you drag your hands down your face in exasperation “He’s a victim! He was defending himself, why can’t we let him off with a lesser offence?”
Billie sighs, shutting the file softly. “Because in the eyes of the law, he’s not a victim. He’s property and there isn’t much we can do about that. Besides, because Ortiz is dead, his ownership basically goes back to Cyberlife, so they have the authority to take him back”
Billie’s right, you know that they’re right, but it’s just so frustrating, so vexing that this is the case. An android, in the eyes of society, is nothing more than their components, why should they be given the same privilege as those who eat, shit and breathe?
Billie may be a judge, but they didn’t make the law.
You remember years ago, when something like this would have been seen as detestable, that the masses would have stood up to fight this kind of horror, but for some reason, with age came stupidity and ignorance it seemed. What the fuck had happened to you all?
You open your mouth, then close it, then open it again before huffing, taking the file from their desk and ripping your coat off the hanger.
“I’m sorry, (Name)!” Billie calls and you wave them off, shouting back a ‘Don’t worry about it’ then close their office.
The courthouse is only a few blocks away from the precinct, a good walk away, a good way to calm yourself down until you’re having to face the frustration that comes in with having to work in such a high strung place. It’s funny really, you used to say ACAB when you were younger, still believed it too, so it’s really a wonder as to why you joined, but then again sometimes to make change you have to become the very thing you hate-
“Detective (Last)-”
You scream, almost dropping your files and jumping a meter within the air. Passerbys don’t even spare you a glance, a generation raised on the weirdest websites like Vine, Tiktok, Youtube and god forbid, Tumblr, have them desensitised to whatever shit people like to play at now-a-days.
“Oh my God, Inspector Gadget” A hand falls to your chest, checking your racing heartbeat “You can’t just sneak up on a bitch like that”
Connor, the big old puppy, tilts his head in mild confusion “But I called your name twice, detective”
Oh.
“What are you doing here, Connor?”
The android joins your side and you continue your way. “Lieutenant Anderson informed me that you were heading to the courthouse, so I decided to come and brief you about a new case”
A new case, of course a new case, deviancy keeps popping up all over the country rapidly but you can’t hold your surprise about the fact that it’s been a  few days and there’s already a new case.
“Deadass?”
Wait, you hadn’t mean to say that-
His eyes narrow “Deadass?”
A snort escapes you “Oh my God I can’t believe you just said that, it sounds so cursed coming from your mouth. I meant, seriously?”
You swear on your life, on everything that may be above and so much more, that the android lets out a laugh when he continues, explaining the details as you finally enter the office.
You realise, as he talks, you feel a whole lot lighter than you had earlier.
-----------
“This guy is as scummy as it gets”
Unfortunately, you can’t help but agree. Todd Williams is about as charismatic as a dumpster fire, messy hair, messy face, stained clothing and the stench of alcohol clung when you finally met him, having to hold back a wince of disgust.
You don’t usually speak ill of others, but you know his type, from the way he carries himself to the way he speaks. You’ve had to face men like him before, his whole demeanor brings back bad memories and you’re so glad that you’re not the one having to get details from him, to have to speak to him.
One thing’s for sure though, you don’t blame whatever deviant decided to book it from him.
“Why doesn’t he just...get a refund from Cyberlife?” You take a sip of your milkshake, staring at Hank, Connor and Mr Williams who looked to be ending off their conversation. “They do that for deviants, don’t they?”
Yes, if you remember, the new flashy CEO of the hell corp spoke it for all to see, that deviance is guaranteed to offer you your cash back.
How inhumane it all sounded.
Gavin scoffs, drinking his coffee “You think a guy like that cares about refunds?”
No. You know why he’s doing it. It’s all about power for fuckers like that.
Mr Williams leaves, Hank is looking through his notes, Connor is heading your way, probably to refer all the information back to you and Gavin is taking in a breath to start his bullshit again, despite your civilness that you had been sharing.
Eh, peace was never an option-
“Your metal boyfriend is heading this way”
The noise you make isn’t human, it’s a mix of a wheeze and scream, like you’ve just choked on the air your breathing and in all honesty, you have, but you’re not letting that mother fucker get away with catching you off guard, especially when he starts laughing.
“Shut up, furry”
Your actually feel the air from his head snapping towards you. “I’m not a fucking furry, quit fucking saying it!”
You pat his shoulder “It’s alright, Reed, we all know you wrote yiff fiction in your spare time-”
You dodge his fist, running away from his red, angered face and petty insults, dragging Connor away from the break room to the side, all while laughing up a storm.
Having your attention on the android again brings back Gavin’s words, his tease of ‘boyfriend’ which makes your face heat up, in what? You’re not quite sure, but it’s enough to make Connor notice your oddity.
“What were you and Detective Reed-”
“Nothing” You cackle, patting down his shoulders to distract yourself “He’s just being an arsehole again, nothing to worry yourself over”
And worry himself he didn’t, because he couldn’t of course, android and all.
Connor was quick to fill you in, an AX400 by the name of Kara had stolen (the word kidnapped comes to mind but you know that the robot detective will just ‘correct’ you on your wording) another android, Mr William’s ‘daughter’, model YK500 named Alice after assaulting him the night before. Mr Williams had been knocked out after the ordeal, as to why it had taken him so long to report it.
“Were there any signs of assault that you could see? Ones that could lead to a potential take down or unconsciousness?” Connor takes a moment before shaking his head “Yeah, I didn’t think so”
What a lying fuck.
“Let’s head to the briefing room”
Hank is there, as well as a whole group of other police officers, talking amongst themselves as you situate yourself behind the podium, screen remote in hand and smiling brightly. Your partners are at your side, Connor in his usual stoic stance while the old fart has his arms crossed, bored as always and you’re ready to debrief the many uniforms but they keep talking, even after you clear your throat.
You’re not one to get angry at being talked over, annoyed, yes, but anger leads you nowhere with a crowd, so instead, you use your most favourite tactic to date
“Pay attention to me or I am gonna start screaming people” You sing. Not a threat, but a promise. “And you all know I will screech like mother fucker”
The room is silent in the next second.
“Great! So-”
The door to the room bursts open.
“Fucking really-”
“Detective (Last)'' It's the front office assistant and by the looks of it, he is panicked, worried even, as he addresses you. You suddenly feel your stomach knot up  “I’m sorry, but there’s been an emergency with your relative Carl Manfred”
You swallow, hard. “What?”
The meeting ends right then and there.
-----------
Hank hurls to a stop right outside the entrance. You’re already halfway out of the car when he shuts off the vehicle, Connor is taking off his seatbelt and you’re already racing down the soaked concrete path to the front door, rain pelting down on you.
You barely feel it though.
You startle the receptionist when you slam your hands down, eyes wide in panic, breathing coming out in fast, short pants and just looking as though you faced the masses to make it to this spot, right in front of her.
“Carl Manfred, he was brought here about an hour ago is he-”
She interrupts “Are you family?”
“Yes, please, I-”
“In what relation do you have to the patient?”
Is she really fucking serious right now? You debated leaning over and strangling your answer out of her, letting her know what kind of fucking pain you could put her through in this very moment-
But the hand that is placed against your back keeps you still. It’s warm and comforting and keeps you from mauling the fucker right out of her chair, though it doesn’t calm your anxiety, no, but at least it’s there.
You turn to see Connor, who nods towards you politely.
Huh, what a twist of events.
Hank leans over from your other side, looking just as angry as you feel, though he keeps his voice civil when he speaks “Listen, her old man’s just had a heart attack, could you drop the formal shit so she can see him?”
Her voice is sharp, just like her stupid fucking face and she snaps back “I can’t let you in unless I know your relation, unless you’d like to be escorted out by security”
Damn, she’s playing with fire and you’re ready to throw oil all fucking over her.
“I don’t fucking think so-” Pulling out your badge, you slam it against the desk, with nothing short of a growl “Police. Now, tell me where my fucking dad is or you’ll regret the next words that come out of your mouth”
You never abuse your power as a cop, it’s inhumane and back in your younger days you sneered at the disgusting police who would use their authority for their own gain, so you hate to admit but the nervous look that crosses her face when she sees your badge and Hank’s when he pulls it out for extra effect scratches an itch you begged to be scratched.
“Floor 3, the front desk will inform you what room”
“Thanks” You spit, already rushing to the elevator, the other two following.
Connor is quiet, to your surprise. Honestly, you expected him to speak out about your behaviour, your attitude, your unprofessionalism, but he says nothing, just trails after the two of you in silence, obediently, just like he was made for.
It’s comforting having him here, even if he’s just following orders.
The next receptionist is kinder than the last (she even scowls at the mention of her coworker) and points down the hallway, to where two officers stand with cups of coffee within their hands. They stiffen in surprise at your arrival, but you pay them no mind, pushing your way into the room where you finally pause, taking in the scene of your beloved father figure, laid still within the bed, pale, heart monitor beeping occasionally.
The doctor by Carl’s side looks up at you. “I’m sorry, but who are you?”
Hank and Connor wait outside.
“(Name) (Last), Carl’s daughter and emergency contact” You explain, walking further into the room “Is he- Can I-”
“He’s fine” She explains with a comforting smile “And yes, you can come closer, though the medication has him knocked unconscious so he won’t be talking any time soon”
The relief almost has you collapsing, brings you back from the panic attack that threatens to kick your arse right in front of everyone and you finally breathe normally.
“Thank you, and you are?”
“Dr Collins” Collins offers her hand and you shake it weakly. “Your father is going to be okay, (Name), but he’s going to need a lot of rest. Cardiac arrest at this age can be fatal, so we were lucky that he lived so close”
You nod, tiredly slinking to Carl’s side to drop into the cushion chair, taking his hand in yours. Kissing it lovingly, you place it close to you in comfort, in reassurance.
‘He’s fine, he’s fine, he’s going to be okay-’
“What are you doing here?”
Your anger shoots right back up, as does you head when you turn to look at the doorway.
“Leo” The name is dragged out of your mouth, it’s spoken with a heavy coat of venom and dirt and for all the participants who are about to see this wild shit show, is a clear indication that you’re far from happy to see the man that stood there. “The fuck are you doing here?”
He scoffs “I’m family, what else am I here for?”
“Oh I don’t know,” You’re standing, stalking closer to him with a raged gleam in your eye “To mooch off him a little bit more?”
The tension can be cut with a knife, everyone can see it, feel it, even Connor, who looks ready to intervene at any given moment.
“No, detective” One of the officiers starts, cutting in in hopes to keep you both calm. “He was there when it all happened, he saw everything-”
“He was there?” No, her words only add fuel to the fire and you’re glaring at your brother once again “You were there? The fuck were you there for? You did this?”
“No!”
“Please calm down” Collins cuts in “I understand the anger but the other patients-”
You ignore her, glancing around the area when a thought struck you.
“Where’s Markus?”
Connor’s the first to respond, “Who’s Markus, detective (Last)?”
“Dad’s care bot” A pin drops, no one is speaking, the two cops are quiet, Leo is scowling, but he’s not looking at you and your anger is quickly making room to fear, cold and stabbing when you push again, harsher, angrier “Where the fuck is Markus?”
The second officer speaks this time, hat in his hands and you know what happens next is not going to be good.
“He was leaning over your father when we walked in detective, Mr Leo Manfred told us he attacked him” The man gulps, hesitating. He’s not nervous for what he’s done, no, he’s nervous about the dark look that seems to be slowly taking over your eyes, “I shot him”
A beat goes by. Then another, another, another, another, another-
“Why were you there in the first place?” It’s soft, curious, but the rage behind it is big, your need for an answer is keeping it back “What was the call for?”
“I’m sorry, I don’t-”
“Answer the question, officer”
His partner offers up the answer “....A break in, ma’am”
There’s silence, then you nod in understanding.
No one is quick enough to stop you from shoving Leo into the wall, hands wrapped tightly around the lapels of his jacket and holding him up so you can scream at him properly, face feeling hot from anger, eyes wild from rage, practically feral.
“You fucking did this! This is your fault, you good for nothing fuck!” You pull your hand back and punch him right in the face, he’s too in shock to react but everyone else is trying to pull you off “What?! Were you off your shit from snorting that fucking powder again, you damn druggie!? Huh!? HUH!? You high right now, too!?”
“Jesus fucking Christ, (Name), let go!” Hank yells but he’s fucking impressed by your resistance.
“He could have died because of you, you good for nothing cunt! Worthless piece of shit! Now, Markus is fucking dead because of you, the person who was actually fucking taking care of him! This is all your fault! He’s in that hospital bed, because of you! You! Did! This! All for those stupid drugs! You’re fucking pathetic!”
You’re finally tugged off by someone, their arms slipping under your own to stop you from going back at him again. The officers are acting as a wall between you and your brother, Dr Collin’s is checking his nose as blood drips down his face, Leo is still in shock and Hank is leaning over, hands propped onto his knees. That leaves...
“I’m sorry detective (Last), but I’m going to have to restrain you until you calm down”
You scream in frustration and try to fight against it, but damn, you have to admit in a moment of clarity, Connor is fucking strong.
“Lieutenant Anderson, if you could take her legs, we can escort her out of the building without much trouble” Hank huffs something under his breath probably a grunt of ‘fucking android’ but complies, glaring at you when he leans down.
“You kick me and I’ll kick your ass”
Your respect for him makes you comply, but the anger doesn’t stop you from cussing both him and the android out, naming every threat under the sun as they carry you out of the building, back to the car which you are shoved placed into.
“Let me out of this fucking car, Hank!” You bellow, glaring at the man with sharp eyes who stood outside the vehicle, leaning against it “I’ll break this fucking window, I swear to fucking God!”
“You can try, but we both know you won’t!”
Once again, you’re screaming, tugging frantically at the door’s handle that you know is locked, but are way too angered to care right now.
Connor sits by your side, a good distance away to not antagonise you, silent, waiting and watching as you slowly fall from angry to desperate, tears welling within your eyes and falling down your cheeks. It only takes a few more moments for you to stop altogether, your shoulders shaking as you sob, quietly but strong.
The android finally speaks “Detective (Last)-”
You’re on him in a moment, arms wrapped around his frame, face buried into his shoulder, wetting his suit jacket as you cry, shaking.
It’s a new one for Connor. An android built for detective work, to sniff out the bad deviants, to question suspects and actually built with a comforting feature for victims of crimes. But this is a first, a first he’s seen anyone to tears, more importantly, a first of seeing you so broken. Sure, he had seen you defeated those few days ago, but this is different, you’re not trying to hide conflicting feelings behind your bubbly smile and weird jokes, you’re just...crying. Nothing more, nothing less.
His arms are hovering at your sides, hesitant, unsure and it’s not until Hank gestures from outside the car to ‘fucking do something, you stupid machine’ that the protocol finally kicks in, his arms coming to wrap around you securely and comforting, reassuring you through your whimpers.
Connor is a robot, a machine that feels nothing.
But seeing you cry isn’t something he can just let happen.
Software instability.

Febri Talk Interview with Jin (Complete)
Tumblr media
Commissioned by the lovely @sodasexual again!
Part 1: overwhelmed by the power of friendship in “The☆Doraemons: Kaitou Dorapan no Chousenjou!”
Musician and creator Jin has been bringing countless topical works to the world, including “Kagerou Project”. In the first part of this serial interview, we had him talk about a work from the series “The☆Doraemons”, which he experienced in his childhood and continued to be influenced by for a long time.
A work that unexpectedly became one of the origins of “Kagerou Project”.
——Jin-san, we would like to ask you about anime shows that have had an influence on you, following in order from your infancy onwards, so would the first one be “The☆Doraemons: Kaitou Dorapan no Chousenjou!” (hereon, “The☆Doraemons”), which came out in the year 1997?
Jin: That’s right. I watched this one in the theaters when I was either 7 or 8 years old. It’s an animation short that was screened together with “Doraemon: Nobita no Neji-maki Toshi Bounen-ki”, and it had one hell of an impact on me. At the time, I was living in an isolated island in Hokkaido called Rishiri Island, so just getting to watch a movie was quite a spectacle in itself (laughs). Actually, not many animes were broadcasted in Rishiri Island to begin with. There were few channels, and other than that, they aired those black-and-white period dramas in cable TV, I guess.
——No, I think that last one is a stretch (laughs). Did you watch “Doraemon” because you liked it from the start?
Jin: I liked it a lot. But the so-called “The☆Doraemons” is a spin-off about six friends of different colors. If I were to talk about the contents of “Kaitou Dorapan” in a summarized way, it’s the story of the Doraemons receiving a letter of challenge from an mysterious enemy called Dorapan, then completely getting caught into his trap and falling into a pinch... And, surprisingly, Doraemon isn’t active at all in this movie (laughs).
——Aah, it’s a work where the Doraemon friends are the main characters, right?
Jin: That’s right. A duo that didn’t have much popularity among the friends, Dora-med III and Dora-rinho, were set as the main characters in this one (laughs). Of course, I didn’t go watch it thinking that Doraemon would participate actively, but he almost doesn’t do anything. Instead, we were shown these two, who are something like sub-characters, in a big scuffle. But when it ended, I began to really like Dora-med III and Dora-rinho.
——Ahaha. So you totally got into it.
Jin: They had something called a “Friendship Telephone Card”, which was introduced as a key item, and this “friendship” thing made the back of my nose sting – that was the kind of feeling I got from it. Dorapan, the one who plays the role of villain in this movie, attempts to take control of robots from all over the world using the power of the Doraemons’ Friendship Telephone Card. However, there’s actually a mastermind behind the scenes, and one heroine is taken hostage, so Dorapan is doing bad deeds because he has no choice. We find this out in the middle of the movie, and at that moment, Dora-rinho goes, “I see; so that’s what was going on” and voluntarily tries to sacrifice himself. By believing in self-sacrificing friendship, everyone was able to reach a happy ending. That kind of storyline was truly wonderful... To tell you the truth, the initial motif of Kagerou Project (hereon “KagePro”) was this movie.
Making KagePro out of wanting to create his own “Doraemons”.
——Eeh, is that so!?
Jin: I created KagePro because I wanted to write about friendship, or rather, I wanted to make my own “Doraemons”. I started KagePro when I was about 20 years old, as I was vaguely beginning to realize that friendship apparently doesn’t exist at that point in life (laughs). Also, same goes to music, of course, but among the books I was reading back then, quite a lot of them had cynical views. Although these stories were my own taste, I also had the impression that there was a generational trend in them, like “people shouldn’t look at this if they’re dumb” and “those who understand this thing are admirable”. Therefore, I did my best to pretend to be like that at first, but I gradually grew tired of it...
——Ahaha. You were getting out of breath.
Jin: That’s right. So, when I looked back, I thought, “I do like ‘Kaitou Dorapan’ after all”. Therefore, if I was going to make something by myself, I decided to use it as the theme. In that sense, amongst the things I watched in my childhood, this work was a turning point. After watching it in the theater for the first time, I watched it over and over again as rental video, and because of this, I even now remember the moments when the sound effects come in.
——Generation-wise, you’re precisely from the generation of “The☆Doraemons”.
Jin: Yeah, spot-on. Also, the Doraemons from “The☆Doraemons” are comical and cute, but on the other hand, they show us that they are extremely strong-willed characters. Moreover, the Doraemons are rich in individuality – as in, everyone is irregular and there are some characters that make you go, “Isn’t that a problem?” amongst them. For example, the wolf Dora-nichov can’t speak human language (laughs).
——I see! Thinking that way, I feel like I can see the points in common with KagePro.
Jin: Also, all of them are purely good guys. The fact that they’re all good people and only have one enemy is pretty awesome. I believe that this kind of thing has an influence on the KagePro series as a whole.
Part 2: paralyzed by the hardboiled worldview of “Cowboy Bebop”.
In the second part of this interview series, where we ask Jin about anime works that influenced him, we have “Cowboy Bebop”, a masterpiece still loved by many fans even now. Here, Jin, who works as both a musician and creator, discusses thoroughly about the appeal of it.
Learning the attitude and stance for creating things.
——You talked about how not many animes were aired in your homeland, but did you keep watching anime after that?
Jin: If you mean watching on TV, anime was what I enjoyed most. However, the shows on broadcast were limited, so when it comes to series that left an impression on me, it would be things like “Card Captor Sakura”, which I used to watch with my little sister. “Kinnikuman” was also re-aired and I liked it a lot. As expected, I was weak to “friendship” (laughs). When they were fighting for the throne or whatever, man, I cried, for real. This happened around the time I was in grade school, but when I got into middle school, I stopped watching anime entirely.
——And when you came back to it, it was right on time for...
Jin: For the series that I pointed out as second in line, “Cowboy Bebop”. Because my father had made up his mind to get his hands on a satellite television called SKY Perfect TV! I think he probably wanted to watch Discovery Channel, but back then, he also included Animax in the contract. And, by sheer coincidence, a re-run of “Cowboy Bebop” began right at that timing, around 2004 or 2005, I guess. I was a middle schooler then, and there were lots of CMs that went like, “Broadcast begins on X day of X month!” together with that opening theme by Kanno Youko-san.
——So that’s what caught your interest.
Jin: There was also the fact I’d been disconnected from anime for a while, so I watched the first episode not knowing anything. And the contents weren’t aimed at children at all (laughs). Dude sprayed an eye-drop drug into his eyes, went, “UWAH—!” and died, like.
——Ahaha. It was a shock.
Jin: “Cowboy Bebop” was my first time coming in contact with a hardboiled worldview. I was like, “What’s this? It’s so cool”. Until then, I had this impression that “anime was made for kids”, but for the first time, I felt like I was watching a drama. Plus, the story was interesting, so I was super hooked as I watched it, and while doing so, the episode “Jamming with Edward” (episode 9) had an impact on me.
——Satou Dai-san was the one who wrote the script for it, right? You later came to work together with Satou-san in “LISTENERS”.
Jin: That’s right. It was such an impact that it had me thinking, “You wouldn’t be able to do that in a TV drama”. And so, this ninth episode had me completely addicted to it, and in the end, I watched it up to the finale. Later on, when I began my own creations, I noticed that what I was doing overlapped with “Cowboy Bebop”, and when this happened, I realized I was doing something quite risky (laughs). To top it off, just when I thought, “There must be lots of animes like that out there”, there was surprisingly none.
The coolness of affirming that KagePro has both pop and hardcore songs and that this is what it is about!
——Ahaha. Did “Cowboy Bebop” have any influence on you? For example, on the music side...
Jin: Hmm... if you put it that way, maybe not (laughs). Only in the variety aspect of the narrative, as people call it. Each one of the 26 episodes has wholly different colors, so to say. They felt like a gashapon from which you couldn’t tell what was coming out next.
——Like, although there were episodes where they threw in comedy to their hearts contentment, there were also episodes that showed vigorous action.
Jin: When I think about it, there are also episodes that go through a simple approach by way of genres that even I would know. I think the creators must’ve had a lot of fun when making them. So when it comes to what influenced me, it I think it was the variation of songs. I think there probably aren’t that many composers like me, who make songs one by one and have no idea what song to write next.
——As in, you do it while intentionally deciding to change the tone and genre?
Jin: Rather than that, I guess it happens naturally. I was always the type who doesn’t listen to the same genre all the time – it’s like, “Today is rock day; tomorrow is punk day”. I believe it’s possible that “Cowboy Bebop” made me think this kind of feeling was valid. The themes also don’t have to be consistent, and even if you turn upside-down the things that you had been asserting in a previous episode, their value and meaning will still hold. Moreover, I didn’t think that the people who made “Cowboy Bebop” had to plan this stuff up in their heads and study about it so that they could put it to action. It just so happened that when they drew out the things they like and lined them up, it turned out the way it did.
——So they didn’t do it while aiming for that, but rather, it turned out to have a sense of variety to it when it was finished.
Jin: And I think it’s amazing because it validates itself with that. So I guess being able to say all we have to say is what actually matters (laughs). If I were to affirm, “This is what KagePro is about!”, then that’d be pretty much it. Even though there are both pop and hardcore songs in KagePro, nobody can say, “That doesn’t feel like KagePro”. That’s why I think that the coolness of proudly declaring, “That’s what it is!” is something I learned from Bebop. Like, “This is what’s cool”. It feels like, on my own accord, I accepted something that was like a stance to be taken when you create these kinds of things.
Part 3: obsessing over “Tokyo Godfathers”, which had developments where one couldn’t predict what lay ahead.
This is the third part of the interview series where the creator Jin talks about works that influenced him. Here, he discusses about a hidden masterpiece from the director Kon Satoshi, which also had a great influence on “Kagerou Project” and which he encountered during his vocational school years, while living a wasteful life.
——The third work is “Tokyo Godfathers” by Director Kon Satoshi, but when was it that you watched it?
Jin: It was during my vocational school years. After graduating from high school, I attended a vocational music school located in Sapporo, but my upperclassmen from that school taught me many bad ways of having fun (laughs). I used to buy lots of sick equipment. Then, obviously, I’d run out of money, so I worked to death in part-time jobs, and well, lived a wasteful life (laughs), but during that time, a friend from my class lent me a DVD of “Hidamari Sketch”. At first, I told him, “Nah, I’m not too into this kinda stuff”, but when I took it home and watched it, I wailed aloud.
——Ahaha.
Jin: That’s why I asked Asumi Kana-san (who voices Yuno) to play KagePro’s main heroine... Anyhow, “Hidamari Sketch” became the cue for me to start watching anime again. And Director Kon Satoshi was from Sapporo, so it was probably being featured in a video shop. “Tokyo Godfathers” is a 2003 movie, but I saw it in the video in 2008 or 2009.
——What piqued your interest about it?
Jin: It was tremendously well-done and fun, and on top of that, it was sharp – a work like no other up until then, I thought. A dramatic production with parallel storylines focusing on different characters is incorporated within the span of about an hour and half as if it weren’t enough. During that same time, there were also works by Mitani Kouki-san and Isaka Koutarou-san’s “Golden Slumber” was being made into live action, so I believe that the so-called multi-protagonist story kind of approach was being used in all sorts of places. But even among them, “Tokyo Godfathers” was outstandingly interesting. “Where the heck is this story heading to?” You can’t tell at all until the end. Three homeless people pick up a baby on Christmas night and try to take her to her mother, but as the story goes on, it gets to a climax like, “Does she even have a mother in the first place?”. Plus, we find out that the person who they thought to be the mother and handed the baby over to is actually someone who kidnapped her from a hospital. The story just keeps changing over and over.
As the story progresses, the characters’ pasts become visible. It was interesting that the past and present were firmly bound together.
——We can’t predict what comes next at all, huh?
Jin: So, the topic will go back to KagePro now: when I thought of writing a novel, first of all, I decided that I “wanted to do a multi-protagonist story”. To make a story like the one from “The☆Doraemons” into a multi-protagonist story. Back then, I really liked the type of novels that went on in first person – such as works by Isaka-san or Morimi Tomihiko-san, and also Yonezawa Honobu-san.
——I see, I see.
Jin: On the other hand, “Tokyo Godfathers” is structured so that the characters’ pasts can be seen more and more as the story progresses. As if the story progresses with the past mini-arcs as the main focus. Like, “Person A and Person B were actually parent and child!” – it was interesting that the past and the present were bound together so firmly. Moreover, the developments go on at an incredible speed, and there’s a proper catharsis at the end. Also, all the characters that show up in it have rich facial expressions.
——To begin with, the fact that the three main characters are homeless is a twist.
Jin: In the first place, it starts with the main heroine spitting onto people in the streets from a rooftop (laughs). I really like those sharp-edged points of it too. “Tokyo Godfathers” has a content that can be written even if the protagonists were parent and child from an ordinary household. But through making the protagonists homeless, it became extremely vivid.
——It’s as if it turns them into down-to-earth characters and gives you a sensation that they connect with the audience’s “present”.
Jin: If I were to speak of other words by Director Kon Satoshi, I also think that “Paprika” and “Sennen Joyuu” are amazing. But on the other hand, I end up thinking, “They’re so wonderful”. As in, “Awesome, aren’t they? I don’t get them very well, though” (laughs). But “Tokyo Godfathers” is a candid form of entertainment that even an idiot like me can instantly get hooked on. The fact that I indeed want to keep doing entertainment resides strongly inside me.
——Listening to you talk like this, Jin-san, it makes me think that the books you read and movies you watched because you liked them reflect straightforwardly in your own manner of expressing yourself.
Jin: I myself think that I’m usually straightforward (laughs). Rather than “I want it to be seen like this” or “I want people to think of it like that”, I prioritize “I want to do this” and “this is fun”, so to say. By multiplying “The☆Doraemons” to “Tokyo Godfathers”, it turned into “Kagerou Project” (laughs). I feel like that’s my foundation.
