i should probably have waited longer to write something more coherent but God i just read the last two chapters of flawless and im so in shock. Like this is no doubt one of the best goodomens fanfics ive read so far (lets kick it up a notch some of the best fiction ive read) its so well written, like theres some absolutely beautiful prose in there but also! most of all its so painfully human? like these are all human beings and they are so real and so flawed and deserve so much love im dkwfkwgkwf im feeling everything. idk. thank you for writing and most of all thank you for sharing it with us
thank you thank you thank you 😭 i was so nervous to share something so intentionally rough and problematic, but every comment like this has me soaring because y'all GET IT!! the messy humanity is what really pulled me to the idea, and i'm so so so happy and relieved and grateful and appreciative that y'all have understood and been so kind and adoring of it 😭

I have big brain idea.
Imagine, you can do reader x chaos fanfic thing-
IMAGINE- I WOULD LOVE THAT-
O.M.G. THAT WOULD BE SO COOL!! Alright... I've decided...since I'm also a writer, I'm gonna write this. (I'd be totally hyped if someone else besides me wrote something like this about Chaos)
Let's go folks!
MASTERLIST
CHAOS SANS X READER
Sitting outside, looking at the shining bright stars, and watching the constellations, with one peculiar skeleton.. Chaos. Or as Nightmare liked to address him, 'the faker'.
Chaos wasn't at all what you expected, when Killer informed you about Nightmares 'twin'. It's hard to imagine Nightmare, acting like Chaos does. Apparently, as Chaos explained to you, he wants to ruin his reputation. For some weird reason...
"Hey..Chaos?" He hummed, and looked at you with an encouraging smile. "Yeah? What's up doll?" You flushed upon hearing the nickname, still not used to it, especially being used by someone that looks identical to Nightmare. Nightmare was never one for affection, that much is obvious, so it's not all that shocking that he never gave you nicknames...but, hell! He could've at least addressed you by your name! It's always 'mortal' here 'mortal' that..
You snapped out of your thoughts, to fully respond to Chaos. "Can I ask you something?" He blinked at you, curious about your question. "Shoot!" He motioned for you to go on. You couldn't help but chuckle, seeing his silly demeanor.
"How far are you actually willing to go, just to lower Nightmares reputation?" His stare suddenly went empty, which was... unusual for him. You felt goosebumps when his eye-lights completely disappeared, now an emotionless look adoring his face. "....As long as my objective will be completed."
This only peaked your interest more.. an objective? He never mentioned something like that... Then a sad thought came up to you, the more you thought about it.. Does he actually see this as his whole reason for existing? Does he think that the sole reason he's alive....is because he has to ruin Nightmare?
You frowned at this. He shouldn't think like that..no one should ever think this way! You suddenly got determined, as you grabbed the sides of his face, and faced him. He widened his eye, and his cheeks gained a cyan color. "Now you listen here, you can't sacrifice your whole time just to humiliate Nightmare, the whole world doesn't revolve around him... You have to learn to make time for yourself! Do what you enjoy, relax!" He was even more quieter, if it was possible, after you uttered those words.
".....Time for......myself?" You nodded, and let go of his face. "Yeah, what do you like to do in your free time?" Even more stillness followed, his head suddenly lowered, almost in shame.. he looked quite sad...which made you frown.
"I don't..... have hobbies."
......
"Then we need to fix that!" You gave him an encouraging smile, which he returned. Seems like you'll have to go over quite a lot of activities, to find out Chaos' hobby.

This week’s writer spotlight feature is:  MuseumGiftShopEraser! They have 9 works on AO3 in the Stranger Things Fandom, and 6 of those are in the Steddie tag!
Our anonymous nominator recommends the following works by @museumgiftshoperaser:
Paint the Devil on the Wall
Conversations About Love
Now I'm A Stranger
An Exercise In Denial
Baby, You Were Meant To Follow Me
Her fics are BEAUTIFUL. When I first read Paint the Devil on the Wall I was so obsessed I immediately recced the fic to everyone I knew who would be vaguely interested in a steddie fic. -- anonymous
Below the cut, @museumgiftshoperaser answered some questions about their writing process and some of their recommended work!
Why do you write Steddie?
I stumbled into it immediately after season 4 came out. I’ve felt very attached to Steve as a character from the beginning of the show and I think I was subconsciously waiting for someone to pair him up with. I think they’re both such great characters to explore themes of dealing with expectation (either by conforming, or fighting against it) and that’s something I always love to write about.
What’s your favorite trope to READ?
Absolute sucker for fake dating. Can’t get enough of it.
What’s your favorite trope to WRITE?
Enemies to lovers! Though now that I’m looking through my AO3 I haven’t actually written that much of it. It doesn’t have to be very intense enemies, though. I just like it when characters don’t immediately get along.
What’s your favorite Steddie fic?
My brain has been forever rewired by took you for a working boy by pukner. It’s such a gentle, nuanced queer story. It feels vulnerable to me in a way that really only fanfiction can be. Can I sneak in another one?? Because everyone should also absolutely read the shame is on the other side by scoops_ahoy. It taps into this very specific kind of queer compartmentalizing, that I’ve never seen written this well. It broke my heart and patched it right back up.
Is there a trope you’re excited to explore in a future work but haven’t yet?
I’ve been stupidly busy with my masters lately so there’s probably not a lot of writing on my horizon. I do have a wip called Doll that I’m slowly chipping away at. It’s a little darker than stuff I’ve written before. I know ‘dark’ isn’t really a trope, but I’m excited to see if I can push these characters a little further.
What is your writing process like?
Absolute chaos. I write non-chronologically, without an outline, all in the same document. I keep writing snippets and scenes until the whole thing slowly comes together.
Do you have any writing quirks?
Italicizing words for emphasis. I love it so much, you can rip it from my cold dead hands. It accidentally makes its way into my academic writing for my degree sometimes which is a little embarrassing, but I just love the flair of it.
Do you prefer posting when you’ve finished writing or on a schedule?
I don’t really do schedules, it doesn’t work for me at all. I try to make sure I have a decent amount of the story written before I start posting to give me a bit of a head start, but forcing myself to finish something by a certain date is a surefire way to kill my motivation.
Which fic are you most proud of?
Probably Paint the Devil on the Wall. It was the first time I’d written the entire story before I started posting so it went through way more rounds of editing than normal. I think you can really tell. It’s also the longest story I’ve ever written (in general, even outside of fanfic). The whole project gave me a lot of confidence as a writer.
How did you get the idea for Paint the Devil on the Wall?
I knew I wanted to participate in the Bigbang and the deadline was coming up, but I still didn’t have an idea. I decided to work backwards and try to think of something that would be fun for the artist(s) to draw. I had a vision of Eddie wearing dungarees without a shirt, absolutely covered in paint and I knew I had to write something to make it happen. I set the story in 80s New York because neo expressionism is really the only kind of art I could see Eddie making. I think it suits him very well. I do actually have a background in art, though! I’m currently getting my MFA, but I’ve worked full time as an artist for several years before that. I had a lot of fun working my passion for art (and all those art history classes I had to take) into the fic.
When writing Paint the Devil on the Wall, what was something you didn’t expect?
All of Steve’s character, to be honest. The fic is written from Eddie’s POV and for a large part of it he has a very hard time figuring out what Steve’s deal is. Right alongside him, I also had an incredibly hard time figuring out his character. It wasn’t until I was working on the final chapter that he finally clicked for me. I realized very late, just like Eddie, that Steve liked him from the very beginning. Most of the enemies to lovers premise was all in Eddie’s head.
What inspired Now I'm a Stranger?
Oh boy, that was forever ago! I remember I started writing it while I was camping with friends because I liked having something to do after everyone went to bed at night. I think I had the idea for that very first scene where Steve doesn’t remember Eddie and it all sort of spiraled from there.
What was your favorite part to write from An Exercise in Denial?
That was the very first fic I wrote, right after season 4 came out! I’ve never written something that fast, I think the whole thing took me less than a week. My favorite part was probably Robin being completely exasperated with both of them. They’re such complete idiots in that fic.
How do/did you feel writing Baby, You Were Meant To Follow Me?
Ahhh… I never got around to finishing that one. I probably never will, to be honest. I wrote the first two parts quite quickly and then the idea I had for the plot spiraled out of control and I realized I didn’t actually feel like writing the rest of it. There were going to be a lot of misunderstandings and I learned that I find that an incredibly frustrating trope to write (when done for drama at least. For comedy, I’m a sucker for misunderstandings.) So I guess I felt a little in over my head.
What was the most difficult part of writing Conversations About Love?
The ending! That fic is so incredibly personal to me and I knew from the beginning that I wanted it to have a very sappy, happy ending. It was important to me to write an aromantic character getting everything they wanted, but I realized as I was writing it that I don’t actually fully know what that means. So it took a bit more soul searching than fics typically do, but it was very much worth it.
Do you have a favorite scene and/or line from any of your fics?
I still think the short little prologue for Paint the Devil on the Wall is the best thing I’ve written. “You don’t draw on things that aren’t yours, baby” is probably the best summary I have for that story.
Do you have any upcoming projects or fics you’d like to share/promote?
Not really!

TW: serious vent post, some personal info. updates on stuff
(Mention of SH and suicide please don't read if you're senstivie to these subjects.)
I wanna start by thanking everyone who keeps sending me asks/requests and supporting what I do. Writting and drawing are two things I always used to express myself and make others happy with.
I can't begin to explain how much my heart gets filled with joy seeing all the people enjoying the stuff I do because I have always been told I am not good enough. My drawings were always called bad just as my writing even if I gave my all into them.
Due to a lot of issues, mentally and physically, i have been SH for a long time. I tried to take my own life several times in ways I can't even describe.
When TADC came out, I had something to hold on to. Yeah, it's a silly little show, and it's stupid to hold on to, is what people tell me. That I should have other reasons to hold on to. But currently, this is all there is. This and the amazing people who like what I do and support me. Every day, when I wake up and see my inbox filled with asks, requests, and my comments filled with people commenting, sweet, and funny stuff, it makes me smile, and it takes a lot to make me smile because I am so deeply buried in tears most of the time that I can't even see the world around me. So thank you, everyone, for the love and support. You guys have no idea how much one single comment makes my day. Just to know that there is someone who found me important enough to interact with me means the world to me.
I will be gone soon for a bit, I'm not sure how long, but I will be back. I am currently working on some art and fanfics that got requested, which I will post before I leave.

Dal, I want to start writing fanfic but I’m afraid that I won’t be able to write characters accurately. How do you get characterization of the characters you write so on point?
hello love! what a compliment! thank you so much!
for me, it’s a process of learning their mannerisms. i have an ungodly amount of time in bg3 (i’ve 100%-ed the game) and every single time i’ve tried to map out certain intonation patterns and gestures in comparison to people i’ve known in real life, things i’ve seen, media i’ve consumed.
here are some tips!
- consider the character before you. really get into their head. before they do anything, your first question should be ‘why are they doing this, and how does it benefit the plot?’ - and if you can’t think of three reasons as to why they are, then it needs more work.
- mannerisms are learned mainly through exposure. liken the character you’re trying to write about to others in media, to people you know, to things you’ve seen. take those and work with them until they feel malleable within the context of your character. a big one of these for me is astarion and little head tilts, expressive hands; and how that resembles both comfort and bravado. performance yet still deeply personal.
- sometimes ideas are great until you can’t explain them. it’s ok to scrap them or save them for later. if something doesn’t feel a hundred percent true to character while you’re still learning them, then don’t include it.
- you’re allowed to view a character differently to the way others do, so long as you can justify it. characterisation isn’t necessarily one size fits all. there is zero canonical explanation as to why astarion would have a raging breeding kink yet here i am.
if i think of anything else i’ll add it here!
go forth and create, my sweet dhampling!

With how perceptive Yor can be, I kind of hope that if she ever gets close enough to a disguised Loid to get a good look at him that she's able to tell that it's him based off of his hands or something. This doesn't even have to trigger a reveal, it could just lead to a very awkward conversation when Yor asks why he's dressed like that and Loid ends up telling her some farfetched lie to try and explain and Yor just accepts it like she accepted the concussive therapy lie at the beginning of series.

My cousin, a published writer, a well-known poet in my country and a literature professor, for whom I've always been no.1 support ever since her first attempts at writing in high school, told me that I must stop writing as a hobby because that's her thing and since I'm writing fantasy mostly my writing could never have any important artistic value anyways.
#what happened was that i was feeling really down these past few days#like mental health dead in mariana trench#and i went to visit her because she lives like 10 minutes away and has a cat i can play with#but yesterday morning a friend of mine made a fanart (i guess i can call it that) of a fanfic i am writing for the five of them#she sent it to me and said she's also working on an actual painting on a camvas of her fave scene from my original story#and i was so surprised and exicted#that's actually a too mild description#and when i was visitting my cousin i showed her the pic of the drawing on my phone and explained it to her and she just said ....ehh..#and started texting someone#i was sitting there feeling stupid and thinking wow you could have at least praised my friend's art sytle or something#and when i was getting ready to leave she asked me if i was aware my writing has no artistic merit and fantasy is trivial literature#so i should just stop wasting time on that and focus on developing my art style more for her future poetry collections#i do the art for her book covers#and added how we already have an established writer in the family so i should focus on my role - becoming a good pharmacist#and she knows how much i hate that i'm studying pharmacy like it's the no.1 cause of me hating the direction in which my life is going#finished it off by saying she feels like what she's doing in going to be really great and important on a large scale one day#and how she wants me to continue being her shadow that follows and supports her#i left went home and started at a wall for hours#i just feel so dumb for getting excited over a silly drawing of something not more than 5 people will ever read#i genuinely hate the idea of people reading anything i write so most likely writing will just remain a hobby for me#and now i feel like the most stupid person on earth and am this close to deleting all my word documents from both my laptops

A Reflection on Quality vs. Quantity in Writing (as per some witnessed Tiktok and other posts)
I’m back again with a long post about quality vs word count quantity.
I think I’ve touched on this before and only recently realized what that may have come across as.
I think I’d like to clarify—just to make sure I was understood and not misinterpreted the first time around.
I’ve had the chance through Tiktok and Tumblr to meet a lot of fanfiction writers or aspiring writers. A version of what I’ve heard of, too many times, is some version of I will never be able to write a story, because I can’t write long ones. This fear of not being able to meet a certain word count often prevents the story from being written at all.
I don’t think word count should be a barrier to starting a story.
I don’t think anyone who’s ever started a long fic has ever thought to themselves, I’m going to write however many thousand words. No one who embarks on a story typically sets out with a specific word count in mind.
It happens, because it’s how the story’s meant to happen, and because that’s what the brain wants, what the characters need for their development.
A compelling story doesn't need to be long. Nor does it have to be short. It simply needs to resonate with its audience, and this can happen regardless of length, because we’re all looking for different things in fandom.
What I am trying to say really is for the writers who aren’t able to, or feel like they will never be able to either finish their stories or write anything bigger than a oneshot, or a small novel-length story: You don’t have to.
What I am trying to say is, people who write long fanfictions are able to take the same characters and explore dozens of emotions, adventures, issues, relationships within one story. Conversely, others can produce multiple shorter works, each focusing on a specific theme.
In the end, we are all doing the same thing, just going about it differently.
The way we think, the way we each explore our own inner turmoil also presents itself differently based on our past, our ability to focus, and what we want from the story we’re writing.
Amélie Nothomb has written 32+ short stories/small novels. Each one is dedicated to a specific genre, a specific topic. That’s where she thrives. And people read her stories. George R. R. Martin, renowned for a single series that interweaves countless topics across the characters' journeys. And people read his stories.
I could go into details about each author but just step into a library or a bookstore and you’ll have every single possible word count for a novel/anthology/series/whatever. They all found their little space on the bookshelves, and they all deserve to be there, and there is not one work that deserves it more than another.
AO3 is a bookshelf.
We are all human, we can’t all work the same way, and long works shouldn’t intimidate you out of writing at all.
This is what I want to say.
If you have something to say, you should write it. Doesn’t matter if it fits in 1K or less. Doesn’t matter if it fits in 900K or more. It’s going to resonate with someone.
No one sets off to resonate with thousands. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't, but you can’t work through your turmoil hoping to resonate with people; you must do it because you want to solve it within yourself first. The resonance is a by-product. It cannot be the end goal, only the happy happenstance.
I hope this helps.
If you want to write, write.
If you start something and stop because half-way through, you’ve decided that actually, you’ve worked through it, then isn’t it enough?
You don't owe anyone your writing, just as no one owes you their readership, praise, or positive feedback. These are all wonderful by-products of your work resonating with others, if you're ever so lucky, but it cannot be what you write for.
AO3 is a bookshelf like Mary Poppins’ bag. Ever-extending. There is space for every length, every type, every genre, every fandom, everythingeverythingeverything.
The only thing it doesn’t have space for, is hate.

Drarry - Gamer / Streamer Au
Title: Press 'F' To Pay Respect by: Boredom (Seinsi)
Tags: Gamer / Streamer Au, Modern Au, Non-magic Au, Enemies-to-Friends-Lovers, In-Game Married
Relationships: Harry Potter / Draco Malfoy
Synopsis:
AU where Hogwarts is an MMORPG. Draco Malfoy, a popular streamer and player known as 'SlyPrince,' gets accused of cheating during a game event (Triwizard Tournament) because of his affiliation with the Slytherin guild. He faces off against a top-ranked player and a faceless streamer known as 'TheChosenOne,' and when the game glitches (similar to what happened in second year <Parseltongue> lol), Draco's reputation takes a hit from cancel culture. As a result, he's barred from participating in the next major event, the <Wizarding War>, affecting both his and his guild's rankings.
Draco discovers an old account he abandoned years ago, 'Serpent,' and upon logging in, notices unfamiliar skills not part of his original class build. Suddenly, 'TheChosenOne' starts harassing him, revealing that their game characters are married to each other. Now Draco can't shake off 'TheChosenOne's' attention.
Kinda confusing but do check out the full fic idea on the link! 🤣🎮

i'm bad at watching shows but i'm interested in their characters/plots so i've decided to try and guess canon based off of reading a bunch of fanfics. so far i don't think i'm very close because it's something my sister has watched and the characters i keep reading about are like. the sidest of all side characters. but i will find canon somewhere
#i cannot sit down and watch something i can cook and listen to something i can draw and listen but i cannot sit and watch#so i am bad at the tv shows#but words i can get into#they should like. convert shows into words so i can read them instead#which is why i have chosen fanfiction#you may wonder why i chose fanfiction of all things? surely there's a summary?#well u see i believe it is much more entertaining to uncover canon through different interpretations of characters and how they're explored#and tbh i care more about characters in these cases than the plot. though i love plot i'm just more interested in characterization#bc plot is good and all but if you're characters suck then no-one cares#and in fanfiction people often play with characterization and explore them in ways that can go beyond canon#i'm trying to find the heart of these characters based on the way people write them#and even when characters are heavily changed for an au there will have to have been something to inspire that change#and i must decide if it's projection from the author or coincidental or there is a deep-seated reason that that character was altered#and i besides reading fanfic where you have no idea what's going on is pretty fun ngl#obviously i will need to read a lot of fanfic for sample size or whatever but i will get there and then i will double-check w my sister#to see how correct i can get it#she's more of a casual enjoyer of things so idk if my characterization focus will resonate or not but eh idc
