Reading the anon abt the doll hobby not having anti drama, and I just had to make sure it didn't mention the BJD hobby, because that one is filled with drama and anti drama. I'm probably more prone to look for drama, but some of it isn't hard to find.
Idk why but I almost wanna share some of my highlights, so I'll do that. Buckle up, this is a long one, and it's only scratching some of the dumb shit bullshit that's happened over the years.
People constantly let themselves be scammed. There are some well known people, and when you look up their seller names you can literally find people who keep up with their renaming because they're such notorious scammers. People still "take a chance" and then a few weeks later: Guys you won't believe this, I got scammed.
There was an entire thing surrounding a company (companies?) selling dolls in the tone oriental. People were using that name because that's what it's literally named, and other people got upset and started an entire discourse about it. Yeah, only that it was an Asian company that had named that tone, they had been made aware of some Western collectors being upset about it, and really didn't care. There are several instances of Asian sellers and companies from Asia using the terms oriental.
The discourse about one Chinese doll company who made a statement on their Eng twitter about supporting the CCP in attacking Hong Kong. People were rightfully upset at the company, which had previously been criticized in the Western hobby sphere for Nazi-themed dolls. Yeah, so people started defending the company, claiming that the only did it to not get hurt by the CCP. Except no other company did something that stupid. It took several Chinese hobbyists from China coming over and making it pretty clear that that company has a real bad reputation in the Chinese hobby to begin with, and to stop defending them especially for the HK thing because that was their choice.
The hobby is actually incredibly open for cultural exchanges, and appreciation. But every once in a while there are people who start bitching about cultural appropriation, and then everyone has to tell them to shut up because people love their dolls and just think it looks neat and want to share.
On the topic of cultural appropriation. Some times the people who bitch about it mess up and attack people of that culture. One such person made a red doll, put it in a qipao for Lunar New year some years ago, saying she's a dragon. Yeah, turns out the artist is Chinese, and the people angry about "White people take a red doll, put it in a qipao calling it a dragon are fucking racist cultural appropriators." Also, once that came out, even before that, a bunch of people once again came in and made fun of these people, especially those that culturally celebrate Lunar new year.
On the same wave though, lol, that artist who made the doll is infamous for her completely batshit doll pre-order, and then her trying to hide that she took the money of a bunch of people and ran. It's even a doll that a lot of doll ooak artist youtubers worked with. The entire story is fucking wild, beyond her trying to blame the company (one person?) who'd produce them, and then pretending it was some flaw with the system they used to let people order.
"If you use runes, I'm gonna view you as a white Supremacist until you prove otherwise." Scandinavians and even Scandinavian poc people told them to shut up (there were actually good arguments about how offensive that statement was, but it was a good dress down), and then clearly not Scandinavian nor Scandi poc decided to double down. Last I saw there was still a stalemate between the Scandi's, and people who're sensible, and the people who just wanna be racist about Nordic runes and call them all white supremacist and attacking Scandi poc.
Sex dolls aren't BJDs...
People are also bitching about "child coded" dolls being put in naughty stuff. The problem is that these dolls often are bobbleheaded anime looking mofos. Even in the cases where you have a child doll: It's still not child porn. It's a hunk of plastic, calm down.
Some doll companies, like VOLKS have raffles/lotteries to have a change to buy the doll. You heard that right, just to be able to buy it. There has been tons of discourse about how unfair it is that US people get to enter twice. Or how people who don't even want the dolls just the raffles.
Scalpers. Nuff said.
People who can't budget, and constantly make that everyone else's problem when they buy a new doll they can't afford and then start panicking.
Customs. By God the customs bitching.
Paypal friends&family. For the love of Christ, stop buying things from random people with F&F especially when you don't know them, or if they're a confirmed fucking scammer.
There's literally a guy who's doll at first glance have some of the best diversity and rep, but the guy is an absolute asshole, and part of the hobby don't really know how to handle it. Small list: Told a disabled person who got frustrated when they were completely unable to assemble it that his dolls aren't made for them. Constantly bans people from buying from him for the dumbest reasons, like 1) Guy asking how shipping would be handled during 2020. 2) Person who got a faulty product, and asked what to do with it.* 3) Assuming a buyer was another already banned person, when it was made clear they weren't he still kept the ban. 4) Basically anyone who critiques his dolls. *He claims "wabi sabi", even though some of the product issues are way beyond any wabi sabi aesthetic. He also calls his "haters" the "entitled" and once made a comic about "eradicating the entitled" and had a doll in a striking uniform salute with a flat hand. Yeah so a Jewish person mentioned how the wording and pic combined gave bad Nazi'esque image and that he should avoid it. He banned the Jewish person. (The Jewish person was very respectful about it, and explained why phrasing things like "eradicating the entitled" and some other stuff was not a good combination.)
--
I remember back in the 00s seeing endless wank over people's porny photoshoots with their multiple BJDs that were styled as a visual kei group.
Also everyone's favorite perpetual wank topic: "OMG, how do you have 5? That's my rent for months!"
To this day, I see the acronym "BJD" and think "Time for popcorn!" even though I rarely see the wank anymore.

I'm still surprised that I'm ever surprised by Viv's cultural/mythological knowledge and ethics. I've known her to be pretty tasteless and bad at this for years. I guess, my real thought, is how on earth her fans couldn't have known about this. How literally NO ONE in her circle ever knew or said anything/recommended a sensitivity reader ONCE.
--Sensitivity Readers, despite the name, aren't overly sensitive or prudish or totalitarian. You hire them to ask how your story looks/feels and if there is anything abt your story which you don't think is appropriation, but others MIGHT, which is especially important w it comes to portraying foreign concepts, customs, basically anyone else's life experience that isn't yours. And yeah, you go to them for fantasy that "isn't political" because if you know anything about fantasy as a genre, you know there is a lot of intentional to unintentional coding and stereotyping (well that and, you know, portraying cultures and religions that are not your own).
The way Helluvaverse stans are SO quick to turn down any complaints...it's really revealing but also really shocking. Just...how...
How do you NOT know that long/pointy/hooked noses are associated with racist stereotypes? Were you even paying attention to the Harry Potter discourse or did you seriously not think anything was problematic abt that series until 2020?
How do you NOT know that voudou practitioners (not universally) were not happy with Princess and the Frog? You know there were, right? There's backlash/controversy whenever Disney tackles race and culture.
How do you NOT know about bl00d l*bel and greed and how they're antisemitic stereotypes and maybe AVOID making characters coded to be Jewish cannibals and/or greedy.
How do you claim to be a fan of Abrahamic demonology but not also be an (at least passing) scholar of the religions that demonology comes from? Christianity, which is where a lot of our modern idea of demons and devils and hell is based on, is chop full of stuff that's worth your time to study. No; it's not lame or converting you to give it a passing glance. There are so many secular religious scholars who love this shit and make it fun. Then maybe, if you branch off and find people who are interested start depicting things from Judaism and Islam with HELP.
srry I just saw something on twitter where someone was seriously arguing Viv should never had done research on how St. Peter should look. St. Peter is a religious figure, he should be allowed to be depicted in any way-same as Jesus, but the complete lack of care in making him a beardless wonderbread christian pastor man is what's insulting.
tl;dr: Yes, Vivienne- you CAN appropriate Christianity. Also, you should have known that depicted voudou, Judaism and other religions is appropriation w you're NOT part of those groups and done some research.

I never post discourse but this time I am because I am annoyed :)
hey if any of you twitter people find my post about the accessible signs on here. y’alls reading comprehension in the negatives for real
let me stress once again this primarily is about Accessibility. personalization means nothing if the text can’t even be read. it literally does not matter if another cc had the idea to personalize the signs too, bro be serious that is such a common idea, I bet all of us have had it before, I have had it before. but this is about ACCESSIBILITY. the title of the post SAYS that, not “oooh look at the pretty sign ideas!” context is clearly in the post and the thread.
Bad saw that chatter’s message and immediately got to work to make the signs more accessible. he spent like two hours talking personally to this person to figure out a solution that would work for them- the customization is a fun little bonus. gosh I know it’s a lot to ask, but maybe acknowledge when people do good things? :0
because if your first thought when seeing this is to make up an imaginary competition, discredit someone’s work, and disregard the feelings of the chatter + the main focus of this change which is an inclusive accessibility feature for visually impaired viewers, you need to self-reflect.
if you have twitter, please send some love to this thread and to the user who suggested these changes @/AngelYoonki
edit: new clip thread
edit #2: thank you ricardão :]

Hey zoomer Huey, oh my god ac red is going to be HELL when they finally revealed Yasuke is going to be the second playable character
https://x.com/oliverjia1014/status/1768104847071719880?s=46
My thing with Yasuke for the upcoming game that they acknowledge he a OUTSIDER. Hell I did some dna research in Southeast Asia and it stated many communities are East African descent so they can say post main story Yasuke settled down and retired to one of those places
Also I saw people said Japan achieved more than those 54 countries….sigh….
People forget that modern Japan is HEAVILY westernized due to American military there (mainly because we don’t want more batshit crazy soldiers like imperial Japanese ones)
And we took care of most of military might because we all know how fucked Japan would be after China got it shit together right?
So Japan was able to rebuilt faster than most countries
We just didn’t pull a British Raj and let Japan keep most of their culture. Okay okay it more complicated
Not to mention our knowledge of japan is due to american occupation there thus the culture exchange for 80 years.
Like my Yoruba thing, yes I want to show more Africans stories. But I swallow the hard pill that I can set the foundation for more better and accurate African stories. But will die before seeing African warriors be treated the same way as Samurai warriors
Also the inferiority complex, look yes African cultures are still shit on
But just grow the fuck up and stop acting like Twitter discourse is everything
I mean I recently bought the Ramayana after finding a mutual who like a naughty character Twitter see as the devil.
Just saying there are good African AND African Americans stories we can tell.
Actually have fleshing out the chimera republic in mind. I think I started to realize an issues with the knights and samurai shit. Wanna read in an another anon?
Tumblr media
Did a reverse search on the image here, nice to see most everyone is on the same page, which is Yasuke was real and the only black samurai that's known
Fellow from Japan suggested checking this site if you're looking for dark skinned people, not sure if he means African or not, Spain and Portugal did lots of trading might have had some African slaves or something like that with them. I dunno.
My thing with Yasuke for the upcoming game that they acknowledge he a OUTSIDER. Hell I did some dna research in Southeast Asia and it stated many communities are East African descent so they can say post main story Yasuke settled down and retired to one of those places
Tumblr media
I can believe the East African bit, these are the "bad guys" from 300 from India to Ethiopia and they were big on moving people from one place to another in order to keep them from creating a large enough community to pose a threat.
They've become pretty westernized over there in Japan ya, not all the way the commercial with the company apologizing for raising the price of a ice cream after like 25 years is not a western thing at all, we'd say fuck you and then increase it again.
Arizona Ice Tea is a outlier there.
And we took care of most of military might because we all know how fucked Japan would be after China got it shit together right?
We took care of military for the same reason we did with Germany, don't want to have to deal with that shit again so you can have a very limited military that's geared for self defense, someone attacks we'll come running and cover you.
Like my Yoruba thing, yes I want to show more Africans stories. But I swallow the hard pill that I can set the foundation for more better and accurate African stories. But will die before seeing African warriors be treated the same way as Samurai warriors
See if you can find the Shaka Zulu series they made, man literally changed warfare in that part of Africa.
Big issue with sub Saharan Africa is I don't think there was any groups that could field a 10,000 man army, not many at least, not till after islam showed up and gave a unifying identity to different groups. This is just from what I know I may be wrong though.
Just saying there are good African AND African Americans stories we can tell. Actually have fleshing out the chimera republic in mind. I think I started to realize an issues with the knights and samurai shit. Wanna read in an another anon?
True dat, and ya that could be a fun read feel free.

How should we assess the performance of generative ML models like GPT-3 and DALLE-2?  What baseline should we compare them to?
The two popular baselines are “humans” and “earlier ML models.”
Here’s another one, which I think is potentially useful: search engines.
----
Imagine taking someone from 1980, teleporting them into the present, and showing Google Images to them.  They’d be amazed, wouldn’t they?
Until very recently, no one had that kind of instant access to a world’s worth of pictures.  And not only can it show you a picture of almost anything, you can tell it what you want to see, and a picture of that thing will appear!
(At least sometimes.  Sometimes it doesn’t quite work, but even then, you can usually see what the machine was “thinking” when it chose the images it did.)
Now, imagine showing DALLE-2 or Imagen to this person.  The reaction would be pretty similar.
Indeed, most of the gap here was closed by Google Images, not by the generative models.  In 1980, you couldn’t access pictures of anything by typing descriptions.  If you wanted a picture of something, you had to go out into the physical world and hunt for it.
In 2015, you could type a description of almost any picture (that plausibly exists) into Google Images, and it would show you a picture like that.  From the vantage point of 1980, this is basically an image generator.
Sure, the images have to already exist in the world (and on the web, and in Google’s index of the web).  But that’s a weak criterion.  There are billions of images on the web.  Have a new idea (from your perspective), go looking for that idea on the web, and often you’ll find it already there, waiting for you:
Back before we had global access to the written opinions of morons, this was a rhetorical fallacy: the straw man. Making up a bad argument in order to refute it was generally considered unhelpful, since the purpose of discourse is supposed to be to reach some kind of truth, not to show how good you are at discoursing.
It’s unnecessary to refute an argument nobody believes. But with 316 million monthly active Twitter users and 500 million tweets a day, somebody out there believes whatever. It’s the old saw about monkeys and typewriters. If you want to be right for a few hundred words, just think of an awful argument and search for the Twitter user who expressed it.
When we use DALLE-2 or Imagen, we come to them with eyes already jaded by Google Images.  So we mostly ask them to make really weird stuff, stuff that would probably not already exist somewhere on the web.
A time traveler from 1980 would not have our biases, and might be confused by our narrowness of focus.  Yes, DALLE-2 can generate things that Google Images cannot “generate.”  But Google Images can “generate” so much just by itself.
Much the same goes for text-generating models.  In 1980, you could not find any kind of text you wanted just by typing out a description of it.  In 2015, you could (usually).  From the vantage point of 1980, Google Search itself is already an impressive “conditional text generator,” not really so different from GPT-3.  (Except the text usually makes more sense.)
----
DALLE-2 and Imagen were impossible in 1980 for the same reason that Google Images was impossible in 1980: the modern web did not exist.  These models are trained on massive web scrapes -- the exact same stuff you’re searching over when you use Google Images.
To make it possible to train these models, we had to first make it possible for a single person to access billions of pictures with associated text.  For the models to exist, their training data must exist first.  But if the training data exists, then you have it too, and you can search over it as an alternative to using the model.
The models do two things: they imitate their training data, and they “fill in the gaps” in it.  (Some things really aren’t on Google Images, but sometimes DALLE-2 can still make them for you.)
Using search as a baseline subtracts out the first of these things, concentrating only on the second.  Search is already powerful.  What do the models add on top of that?
As a way to evaluate models, asking “how does this model compare to searching over its training data?” has the interesting property that it automatically gets harder as the training data grows.
It subtracts out the growing “power” of the training data itself.  The model doesn’t just have to improve with more data, it has to squeeze value out of the new data that wasn’t “already there” to be found using search.

16 & 24 for the violence ask 🔥🔥
16. You can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
This was more common back in the early S1-era and I don't know if it was like, actually popular or if I just saw a lot of it at once when I was recently going back through old stuff, but I'm really not into the dynamic [internalized homophobia Rin + too free to care Haru]. No shade to anyone that enjoys writing/drawing that, but personally I find it sad to flatten their characters so far into "Rin hates himself and Haru is oblivious" on top of the whole "but we're both guys!!" trope as well.
Also just like. some of the characters. Especially Hiyori, Kaede, and Albert I just cannot wrap my head around why people enjoy them 🫣
24. Topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
I mean, is it too cheap to say ship wars?
These days things are a lot chiller, at least in the English-speaking tumblr fandom, so I don't see much discourse of any kind thankfully. But it was SO BAD back when the cast was too small to spread the number of ships thin like they are now, and there's still some pretty gross posts occasionally when I venture into the tags or for some reason open Twitter.

hello love! I’m the same anon that asked u about the circumcised and I have another question, how do you deal with so much stunt talking? like I’ve been here for years and just the thought of discussing it gets me bored, we basically all know how it’s gonna play and that will end in the future (maybe in 3 months, maybe in 2 years) but it’s always the same script, I can’t understand why people put so much energy on it, maybe some new larries can really have doubts and be affected by the whole circus but in general I see the entirety of the fandom going crazy about this things and talking a lot and it’s just so senseless to me. I saw the amount of asks you got about it and I can’t imagine having the patience to answer all of it, idk if the holivia thing was the last stroke for me to care about this things but now I just really couldn’t care less, I know the feeling for someone that it’s just getting in the fandom can be awful but (at least for me) it such a pointless discussion, like we all will spend energy on it talking about and if it has to happen, it will, and in the end there is nothing we can do about besides sit and wait till ends. (And I’m also asking how do u deal with all of this cause I used to have a pretty popular larry account on twitter in my country and every time something like this happened I used to receive tons of asks on curious cat or comments in my tweets and didn’t have the energy to answer or whatever, and that was one of the mainly reasons I left tt almost two years ago, and now when I come to my old acc just to see how things are going there it looks like that nothing change, so how do deal/don’t get tired off all of it?)
- sorry for any english mistakes sweetheart.
Your English is perfect, love. Honestly, I deal with it by letting go of feeling like I have to answer everyone. I anger questions when I have the energy, when I feel it adds something to the discourse, or when I’ve got something to say. Otherwise I just allow myself to have a life outside of fandom. 🤷🏻‍♀️
As for the boredom, yeah. I find it pretty stupid most of the time. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that maybe maybe we’ll get lucky with this one and it’ll be low key and/or a positive experience. I know I may be seeing myself up for massive disappointment though. 😆

(I’m pretty sure the way I type is recognizable but I need to like pretend at anonymity bc I feel. Remarkably silly about this)
I wanted to like idk rant to someone in the HB fandom who isn’t balls deep in the “anti proship” sphere bc like, I’ve been struggling w guilt over enjoying a certain ship that everyone hates and considers problematic (I think Loona and Octavia is rlly cute!) and I’d like to make content for it but I also rlly fear being seen as like a pedophile. Do u ever worry abt that kind of thing? And is there anyway ur able to get over it if u do? I don’t like getting into anti/anti anti discourse bc I feel like it’s a very reductive way to view and interpret media but I still have a crazy amount of worry/guilt
First off, it is still ridiculous to me that this is even a problem in this fandom. This is an adult show about characters in Hell, and the main characters are, respectively, assassins and the eclectic cast of the Hotel which includes a cannibal serial killer. (I am eternally both amused and completely baffled that like half the awful puritanical takes I see are from Val icons. Buddy. Pal. The fucked up fiction is coming from inside the house.) I saw waaaaay more fucked up shit on Zim nsfw twitter than I see on Hellaverse twitter and that show was Y7. Up your game, guys.
Personally, I don't really see Loona and Via as siblings/sisters as much as I think a lot of others do, more just friends (and honestly I think canon moved much too quickly to give them such a heartfelt scene together, they hadn't even met officially before that point?) so it's really only the age thing and even then, the plot of HB has seemed to imply that a fair amount of time has passed since the series started, probably around a year- so Via would be 18 or older by the time anything actually started anyway, especially if they became friends first. Setting aside the 'justification' though... they're not real. They're cute together, I agree, and I think you should be perfectly fine enjoying them just in the lens of 'they're similar, I like how they'd interact, and I think they're cute together'!
I was pretty much forged in my opinions about this from Invader Zim stuff, where people insisted that liking two characters that I'd liked together since I was thirteen made you a pedophile. Obviously, I could tell that wasn't true, because it had never been the case in all those years up to people starting to be bitchy about it in 2019. (Before that, it was that it was bad because it was enemies to lovers and, more importantly, gay. Great hater throne to inherit, guys!)
Unfortunately... as stupid as it is, this fandom is way more puritanical than it should be, so it wouldn't be wrong to engage through anonymity to protect yourself. Find the people in the tag who are using 'proship/proship interact' or something along those lines (I've seen a few, although some tend to lean more on hard/dead dove content), post on ao3 into the anonymous collection which removes your name, make a tumblr sideblog that doesn't connect to your main, find fellow shippers and interact with them specifically. Do whatever you need to do to keep yourself safe from people who can't understand that thinking something is cute or interesting to explore in fiction is automatically bad just because they don't like it. The more stuff that's put out there about the ship, the more likely you are to find kindred spirits, that's honestly part of how I gathered my mpreg weirdos to me in both this fandom and the last.
I'm pretty sure that the callout I got for Sunny was why several mutuals who were a friend group unfollowed (and likely muted) me on twitter. Unfortunately, it left me worrying that the other shoe was going to drop any day for about a week because it got just enough notes to make me worry but not enough to get to anyone with any real reach to spread and get it 'over with'.
At this point, I've sort of reached a state of 'fuck it', because if it happens, it happens. I know that I'm fine, and the people I genuinely care about know that too. I know that what I'm making is entirely separate from my morals as a person, if not from how dumb the IZ stuff was than from the fact that I was an English major. Literature is full of stuff that authors don't make as a 1:1 with their real-life morals! And the one you're thinking about isn't 'bad' comparatively at all.
I think the fandom is starting to see that being a dick about fictional content is bad through the backlash to Poison and 'hey, maybe telling somebody that they need to detail their trauma to the public to make fiction is bad?', but it seems to mostly be centered on dub/noncon, so I wouldn't necessarily hold my breath.
At the end of the day though, remember this: You, as a person, are completely fine, no matter what others might think. Octavia and Loona would probably be seen as a totally normal ship like ten years ago (except for people who'd be dicks about them being gay) and there is no judgement to be made on your character in any reasonable way for thinking they're a good ship. You're not a pedophile for thinking a fictional owl and hellhound look cute together, any more than I was for smacking together two Nicktoon characters, and frankly the IZ argument held slightly more water than 'the almost-18-year-old and the 22-year-old' because Zim's age was so ambigious. Try explaining this 'people think the young adult animals holding hands are bad' to any adult who isn't sucked into fandom discourse and they'd probably be baffled that it's a problem.
I know that the guilty feelings aren't always rational and it took a bit of time for me to unwind how I felt about creating certain stuff too, but try to remember that above all else- exploring things in fiction has been a thing people have done for a very, very long time. What matters is your actions towards other real people, not what you do with fictional dolls.
If nothing else, if you want you can always send me a dm and chat that way, I'd be happy to talk.

I will admit I am a person who whines about Owen (not on Twitter but as an anon) and isn’t sold on him being best man, but I think the discourse here has helped me to better understand why?
Owen mostly seems like the worst parts of Sam Seaborn and Chris Traeger, two characters I love, and that is because he is the “main” guy. Rob Lowe really does him best work as part of an ensemble and I would love to see that Owen. My main S4 wish is Owen going nuts as a wedding planner. The picture where TK is clinging to Carlos while Owen is talking gives me LIFE.
I also get the sense that some of the Things I Dislike about the current Owen and TK relationship are really Things I Don’t Yet Understand, and that they are going to be discussed going forward. I loved S1 Owen and TK and have high hopes that we see the logical evolution of that relationship in S4.
My issues with him as a best man are largely My Own Residual Issues from My F-ed Up Family Dynamics and I will own that.
I guess for, I don't really see TK and Owen's relationship as having taken a huge turn. It's different from season one, but TK a different person now. When he came to Austin, he was fresh out of a relationship, fresh off a relapse, and he only knew and trusted Owen. As the season and seasons went on, that changed. He found support with the other members of the 126, he started ~whatever~ he wanted to call it with Carlos which turned into dating, which turned into living together, which turned into getting engaged. TK is his own person with his own life. He's going to have a husband. Things were going to change between him and Owen, that's just the way things go. Relationships with parents change.
I know people were upset that Owen went to Hill Country at the start of season 4 while TK and Carlos were broken up, but we don't know if TK told him to go and that he'd be fine. He probably did. He was doing a pretty good job at playing it off while he was at work. Then I saw people get mad that he left TK at the hospital and went off to find Grace....like they didn't understand that Owen had to go so Carlos could be there when TK woke up.
Honestly, it feels like Owen is damned if he does-damned if he doesn't. If he's there then people are mad that he's taking up too much screen time or the plot is too much about him. If he's not, he's abandoned his boy.
In my mind, he's the only one that fits as best man.

Do you ever feel like you’re talking to a wall?
It started with some account sending me an ask today, very offended and hurt by me tagging my art as #dickjay and #jaydick instead of just #jaydick, because of who’s bottom and who’s top on the art. Pretty frivoulous and stupid take in my opinion (and in the opinion of everyone who liked my public response to that “change the tags!” demand)
I don’t know how that escalated to that person accusing me of being an arrogant western that thinks herself to be the center of the world...
But it happened. They sent me a new DM in that same tone, very angry and hurt because one of my followers responded to them on the comments by agreeing with me over the overly dramatic scandalized reaction to my tags.
This person kept repeating they were an inexperienced person on online discourses and they got to check my Patreon to see the commentary over the characters’ roles to make their mind if my art truly was misstagged. They also said I should check on how they do thing on the Asian fandom and how they use tags the proper way... very out of nowhere lecturing, if you ask me.
I just thought “maybe this is a minor”, you know... the natural assumption when you read something like “I’m new to fandoms” or “I have no experience in any of this”. Just the nomal protocol, when you have some years engaging on fandoms online and you have dealt with minors pretending to be adults, or by the nature of the complaint. Let’s face it, being mad about tags does seem just like your everyday Twitter troll.
I told them in case they were a minor they shouldn’t be talking to me and even less be exposed to NSFW art. I told them just in case you’re a minor I’m not going to continue this conversation, I suggest you to block the people you find unconfortable and move on. I told them it’s not worth it to pursue discourse online over this things. That creators and people in general are here to have fun, they don’t appreciate strangers coming out of nowhere lecturing them about how to do stuff. That blocking is a rightful tool.
What did it serve for? They came after me for a third time even angrier, called me an arrogant western because I was assuming they were a minor when they were not, that they’re Asian and I was being disrespectful to them as an Asian by responding to them publicly the first time and by not wanting to follow the Asian fandoms’ way to use tags and that now they saw it’s true we western people believe ourselves to be above everyone else.
That last thing was said to me especially after I defended one of my followers  on the public response’s comment box. This person called my follower an ignorant by just agreeing with my views over blocking the posts you don’t want to see in the tags. I got defensive because I don’t like to see people that have been supporting my art for years getting attacked like that on my posts. I was not nice in the responses by pointing out how ridiculous it is to make a big deal and to antagonize people over this stuff online. I did call it a Chronically Online behaviour and that, from all the problems in the world that really matter, such as inflation, wars, xenophobia, violence against children, etc, spending your time online fighting strangers over TAGS does look like a stereotypical “First World” thing to do. I didn’t assume anything about this person’s nationality. I was describing a behaviour and maybe I made the mistake to mix the Twitter culture I carry on with me with Tumblr discourses.
See, it’s normal to respond to antis and puritans on Twitter with stuff like “Fighting over fictional relationships is frivolous, such a First World thing, we people that are not Chronically Online are more worried about getting food on our table and paying our rent and have no time to worry about harassing artists over ships”
Oh boy they missunderstood everything I said and started to explain to me how they were not a minor and not everything of I just implied again and everything became about how I’m some kind of western bully.
I suddenly was in the position of explaining everything related to how internet and fandom online culture works. How me thinking they could be a minor for the way they approached me was nothing personal, that it’s not rude to respond in public and that what I said wasn’t personal against them for what their nationalitiy was. It was really frustrating, like everything I said was offensive to them and everything was intepreted as me thinking myself to be better when it was the opposite, I respected their views on the tags matter but I had my own opinion (and judging by my post with +200 notes, everyone was chill with my view on the matter except them) just as valid to exist on this platform as theirs. I just suggested them to block me and to stop fighting everyone to avoid being hurt by not getting everyone around them to think as them.
And why would my way of tagging be invalid when they’re the ones that decided to join a western platform such as Tumblr with western people that use tags diferent than them? If they find us western fans of DC comics (An American property, by the way) so annoying why would they even be here? In my humble opinion, they were too stubborn to accept other way to use tags or do things in general, They kept repeating they were being nice while explaining to me why this as a problem in their eyes but never awknoledged that maybe my point of view is also valid? I don’t know.
I decided to delete my first public reaction, understanding that they were hurt by being exposed and by the cynical tone of the conversation. Because I truly have nothing against this person nor about where they come from (I told them that my native language is not English either). I’m not sure if that serves as a good faith act from my part, but I tought at first it was part of the game on internet interactions. And once I saw that this person was really out of touch with every subtlety and code surroinding online international English-speaking fandoms, it wasn’t fun anymore for me either.
I’m so tired right now. Emotionally too. I just wanted to post some catharsis post because it was too much, even for me.
I need to rest and log off the social media for a few days. Thank you all who still support me and don’t think I’m a horrible person. I try to be a better person day by day, even if I don’t seem like one sometimes. I try to learn about people, about how to respond, what to respond, where, with what words. Try to not get into trouble. but sometimes I just offend people even when I try not to. Thank you for reading to the end :)

Scrolling through my timeline now is letting me look and see a wide arrange of thoughts and reactions. But something I notice from almost everyone right now that has something to say about 911 and it's lackluster last season and season final. Is that they never expected Buck and Eddie to get together. I don't just mean the people who say they never saw the romance, that's a given, but they are saying it as if it was a forgone conclusion and they're saying that it's because we shouldn't expect to see characters presented as queer.
And then on the other side there are people who really wanted it and believed it was possible. There are people who wanted it but kept their expectations low because there's always a chance that your ship wont sail. There were people that just wanted canon confirmed Bi buck or canon confirmed queer Eddie in any form the show gave.
But in their posts on tumblr, on twitter, reddit or discord. They always have to add after saying they saw the possibility of it, but that they wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen. After 911's last episode people who posted about Buddie were saying they were disappointed but they weren't surprised. There are people posting that they expected to be disappointed and people posting that you should have seen it coming and just accept that it was never going to happen.
And honestly, why not? Tell me why. Things have to change some time for the better. Why not see that change now? Why not be disappointed about this? When really by now we should be to a point where one fan pairing that's queer doesn't go canon should be just as meh as if a fan hetero couple does. Why just accept it's never going to happen.
I mean maybe I wont get to see something like this in my life time. But I'd like to think one day we could do something as simple as watch tv and see people on it being all different shades of queer. See two guys who were only written as straight suddenly show queerness because like, in real life that's something that happens, people realize things late in life. People present a certain image and when you get to know them more you find out hidden depth. Characters aren't even real and this annoying rule that fiction has to be held in this chock hold because people in real life are homophobic/transphobic/just terrible in general and can't seem to handle, well, differences.
Maybe that day when I can log online and say two fictional characters would be cute together and not end up in some online discourse over it will also be the same day me or any other person that's different won't have to live in fear in real life. Can be unique but not considered 'other' and 'wrong' Because yes for a lot of people this may just be 'oh no the pretty people I want to see together on tv didn't get together'. But to some it's another way of pointing out how what a lot of us are is wrong and gross. And to people like me it's another reminder that I don't live in a world where what I am is normal enough to just be on tv. To just be out there and not given a second thought.
In this specific fandom, for this show, lots of people point out there's already Hen and Karen, and there had been David and Michael. As if that fills some quota the queers have that doesn't apply to straight couples. We didn't see anyone saying Buck or Eddie shouldn't have girl friends because there were already too many straight couples on the show. Hell, with this fandom I've had someone tell me if I want to see a gay couple, go watch a completely different show. Cause Lone star has Carlos and TK. It's like a backwards slide, enough queerness on this, move along to something else.
Frankly I think seeing people say 'I know this could never happen' is more depressing than the ship not sailing. And I wish when I or other people brought up our disappointment about this sort of stuff. It wasn't boiled down to us being silly about ship. Right now one of the very real ways I can fight against prejudice is by finding and supporting queer media and trying to support the general medium embracing and celebrating and representing queer people in real ways.
Sure it might not be on the same level as when I protest legislation that is being passed that strips away peoples rights. Which is still happening because we can't change people's misinformed views on real life issues, and we can't do that if we can't even get past token rep in shows.

I’m really glad that ao3 doesn’t have an actual pro-ai policy at the moment! I’m planning on doing some research on what Unseeliekey brought up just to at least understand what he’s talking about. I was honestly really confused and freaked out reading what he was saying. But yeah, I’m sad too. You’ve got the right to remain right here with me and it’s a little more fun when I’m with you are two of the fics that made me not only get pretty into Saiou but also made me more attached to DR and into reading fanfiction in general. And it’s just like really upsetting to see something that had that much of an effect on me be gone and know that not everyone who is in the fandom or will get into the fandom will be able to see that.
I also really hope that there’s some sort of way to glaze works too. Making stuff inaccessible to guests is always sad. When I first started reading fanfiction I was a guest and like a lot of people don’t use accounts for various reasons and it’s just sad to think about account locked stuff. And it would be so nice if the ais would just Not. Like why can’t they???? Why???
Anyway, right now I don’t think there’s any full proof, everyone will be able to be happy way to prevent the ai scraping but I’m sure you’ll figure something out that’ll be alright for at least what can be done at the moment. Your works are very cool. I really, really love them. They bring me lots of joy. Thank you for all the joy. It’s super awesome.
okay this is a REALLY long answer because i went on a whole rant so im going to cut this for people who are just scrolling normally. but also im totally going to put this into my pinned tag
a lot of what was said was like. Half true. my counterpoint to him saying that ao3 supports cp or rape or sexual assault is that no matter where you go on the internet, you will find shit like that. EVERYWHERE. ao3 doesnt support it i really seriously doubt that anyone outside of those spaces supports shit like that but ao3 is an ARCHIVE. and when you put things in the archive, you are allowed to submit whatever the fuck you want. setting rules on what could be put into the archive automatically means that other fics, which explore the topic in a critical, non-fetishistic way, are ALSO up to scrutiny. fics that explore the psyche of trauma victims? they might not be allowed. regular degular fetish content, no minors involved? completely up to scrutiny. im really not a fan of censorship OR some of the shit on the internet, but i can only control ONE THING and thats what i allow myself to see. i really dont like people saying that ao3 deserves to be taken down because of that because then that would mean twitter deserves to go down, social media as a whole deserves to go down, and just generally i dont trust people who push the "think of the CHILDREN" argument. you see republicans push that when theyre trying to ban trans or gay people out of existence so INSTANTLY alarm bells start going off in my head, not to imply that i think every single person who pushes that argument in this context is republican or right-wing. just bothers me and looks like a red flag
and to instantly get it out of the way im not involved in the fucking proship/anti discourse that whole distinction feels like destruction of critical thinking antis are often puritanicals and would kill me if they saw what i write in nameless and gasp at published books that delve into topics they think are off limits and many of the proshippers ive come across are weirdos who think that its totally normal to write romance between minors and adults in a positive light like its NORMAL and that we shouldnt think less of people who do that but fyi i am totally thinking less of people who do that and im totally thinking less of people who hate me for writing my unhealthy/toxic/abusive/codependent relationships that dont even fetishise those kinds of relationships like GET OVER IT!!!! BE NORMAL!!! GO OUTSIDE LICK A DOORKNOB KISS A GIRL DO SOMETHING!!!!!
if there is ever any advice i can give to people its to form your own opinions and dont try to put a strict solid label on your opinion because sometimes you will betray your label and youll think to yourself "am i even really that thing......." people are complex and hold many different opinions that sometimes contradict one another and thats fine. logic your shit out dont fall for charming little labels that pin you strictly on one side of an argument it makes you less likely to actually reach a point where you have a strong opinion that makes sense AND can compromise and thus bring someone more onto your side. forever
ANYWAY YEAH! i settled on making it so my osomatsu san fics go account only on the 20th and then also some of my older danganronpa single chapters go account only with them, but the multichapters im currently working on will go account only when theyre finished, with exceptions for when theres rumours going around of a scrape. makes me so oo oodofooafgofjgj mad GRRAAGGHGHGGHG
but thank you i am glad to bring joy to people's lives. readers and comments bring me a ton of joy and im glad that i can give that back to everyone ^_^ i seriously cannot thank readers and commenters enough like i never feel like i get it across well enough how grateful i am for everyone who reads my stories and gives me kudos and the people who comment like. it brings me so much joy that i cannot properly verbalise EVER

Lilith Fairen’s lying continues...
This sort of “discourse“ is why I stopped engaging with the vast majority of RWBY community since 2020. I really hate repeating myself, but I’m basically only here on this Tumblr posting right now because of these lies that keep getting perpetuated without anyone bothering to shut it down out of fear of retaliation by Lilith Fairen or Canonseeker harassing them.
If you have a question about me, or want clarification on something that someone has said about me, just ask me directly and I’ll try to answer it for you. Otherwise I’m pretty much working and drawing 24/7.
Tumblr media
I will go through each lie one section at a time and address them individually. I will also refer to Fairen as “You” here, since this post is for her to see and my language is directed towards her.
“TheFloofArtist is a guy who got so pissed over Adam’s death” -
I never liked Adam. I never got mad over his death. You want to hear my thoughts on Adam, which is one of the few things that hasn’t changed about me over the years?
I’ve often referred to Adam as a Reddit incel with ugly hair dye with stupid writing that makes him comically unlikable. Adam is just outright awful both in personality and writing. I DO NOT LIKE ADAM. I HATE HIM. But let’s have a hypothetical here. Suppose I did like Adam. (I don’t.) You’re implying that anyone who likes Adam (I don’t.) means that they’re just as bad as he is. Adam is a fictional character from a show. Someone liking a character who does atrocious things doesn’t mean that they too believe in committing those same atrocious things, or share the same values as that character. You must separate these two things, not conflate them.
“that he made a terrible photoshop of Blake stabbing Yang instead”
I never made that photoshop image. I stole it from Facebook and reposted it to my old Twitter 3+ years ago. You can’t even get the details of your lie right, as Yang and Blake are stabbing each other. It wasn’t a one-way stabbing. Not that it matters because I didn’t make the image you’re accusing me of. I was just unfortunate and stupid enough to post it to my Twitter account back then because I thought it was a funny edit and my sense of humor at that point in time was maximum edge, minimum substance. I wouldn’t find it funny at all now, it’s just a stupid edit.
“and spammed it at Blake and Yang’s VAs and Bumblebee fans.”
I never “spammed” that image to anyone. I made one post with it (on my own account, mind you!) that got a ton of circulation due to quote retweets from other users who were upset with the image. That’s not “spam”, that’s a lie you invented to make me sound worse. I also never spam images to anyone, because on Twitter, doing so clogs up the “Media” tab with each individual copy of the image, and I use my Media tab as a way to navigate and find old artwork I’ve posted. If I truly spammed images, anything I posted prior to that would get buried and I’d never be able to find it again. If anyone is going around and spamming this image in 2022 (the post in qustion being from 2019, you really had to dig for that one), it’s both you and Canonseeker.
Onto the next lie.
“Floof has an obsessive vendetta against Barbara Dunkleman”
I’ll be honest. I don’t care that Barbara said, “It’s a cartooooon!” at me. Yes, haha, funny meme, but your wording here implies I’m actively trying to get back at Barbara over what she said. I don’t. I really, truly, do not care that Barbara said that. Your wording makes it sound like I spend my waking hours plotting to retaliate for some grave injustice done to me, when the truth is I barely remember Barbara even exists. When I woke up today and saw your Tumblr post, that was the first time in almost a year that I had to bother remembering who she was. Fairen, you don’t know me, so don’t speak for me on how I feel about anything.
“because she mocked an obvious bait question”
No, it wasn’t a bait question, but it was one I was very careful about when coming up with it. I asked about a plot hole (How did Jaune obtain Pyrrha’s weapons after the Fall of Beacon?) and the idea was to see if the writers thought about it. If I got the same answer from both of them, it means they did think about it. If I got two different answers, it means they didn’t even consider the idea. I got the latter. And I even got a proper answer from Kerry that would address that plot hole perfectly fine. (When Qrow went up the tower to get Ruby, he also got Pyrrha’s gear then.) That’s all there was to it. You weren’t there, you don’t get to interpret things for other people.
“he asked at a convention.”
You mean RTX 2017. It’s not just “a convention”, aren’t you a big RT fan? Do you not know what RTX is? Come on, if you’re going to lie, do a better job and at least have some of details right.
Onto the last set of lies.
“All of that made him a bit of a celebrity among ‘hatedom’ communities”
No, I was barely a presence in them even then but especially now with lack of making any kind of content. The numbers don’t lie either - I’ve been perpetually stuck at 2000 subscribers for years now. I also don’t like being referred to as a “celebrity” when I know I am a nobody you use as an easy punching bag for validation from others. I’ve said it before too, I know my place in the RWBY fandom. I’m not a big name, I’m just someone who has some video-editing software and can draw. That’s it.
“who embrace rational individuals like him and the kind of rational things he says about people who make and enjoy a cartoon he doesn’t like.”
Thanks, because I’d rather engage and discuss things with other people. Just block me and move on. I already have you blocked because I don’t want to see anything you post but people keep sending me your posts talking about me. I will ask you this one last time, but you need to stop. Find something else to do with your life. Get a hobby away from the computer. If I was once an edgy shitlord until I decided to be my actual self instead of the stupid facade I put on, you can stop being an edgy shitlord too.

I saw your tags on that Dream neg post and I just wanted to honestly ask if you’ve ever branched out into Dtblr or anything. Because OP very badly misrepresents Dream in that post. He himself acknowledged he was baby raging and clarified a million times no one should be sending hate and very clearly explained why he disagreed with the decision. As well Dream was trying not to be super negative but explained he gets very fixated on things and can’t let them go like he wishes he could which is of course apart of adhd. I don’t want to make you like Dream. But food for though
Yes I have seen a bit of Dtblr and honestly I think y'all are pretty chill for the few I've seen. Or at the very least, more pleasant than twitter could ever hope to be lol. And to clarify, I have no problem with people liking the ccs that are of the Dream Team. As for Dream, well.
It's just that after looking at various controversies that have popped up, looking at the way he handles his audience and his general attitude, just...
Yeah I can't like him, anymore. No matter how many times he could try to give his meager apologies to fix problems that he continuously contribute to. No matter whatever reasons that could be made. I have just found myself feeling increasingly disdainful towards Dream. I don't like him, maybe part of it's irrational. Perhaps I have been exposed to the more negative depictions of his persona, which have influenced my perception of him. Yeah maybe.
But mostly I just don't like some of the decisions (or lack of) that have contributed to the environment he has fostered in his fanbase. I don't like how he keeps giving excuses, and next time it happens again, nothing changed. And it keeps happening.
All of it just leaves a bad taste whenever I think about it. I feel exhausted interacting with anything related to him.
But, look if it's any consolation, I don't think Dream is the worst person to ever exist. Maybe a low bar on my part, but yeah I understand he is a flawed human being and yes he is allowed to feel angry and feel things. I used to actually like him and his content, he brought a little joy in my life like my other favorite ccs. And not all the things he has done are horrible, some of it has been good and uplifting to others. He is friends with many of the other members of the Dream SMP, they would know him better having spent time with him. And I trust their judgment.
Well I would hope so at least.
And as for the post you refer to, sorry but I can't find it in myself to disagree with them, for the most part. Outside of MCC discourse, I can tolerate the man if he stumbles into my dash, he is doing his thing. After all I barely, if ever, interact with DT content and their fanbase. But just... he brings an ugly side to what is supposed to be a fun event and I can't help but feel a lot of issues relating to Dream (and to some extension Sapnap), not just his fanbase, keep getting deflected or ignored when they need to be address.
I dunno maybe I'm wrong, but that's just what I ended up at after many, many months of doubt and consideration. And just, yeah.
===
(I also would like to clarify this is not an invitation to argue or debate with me, not in the mood to do so, not now or ever. So please leave this as it is, but I do hope you have a decent day at least!)

Not sure if points were actually made on that article. I was indifferent when she was made director. I actually never even saw booksmart so I truly had no opinion on her. I was excited, sure, to see Harry on another project but my opinion of her did not change in January 2021. She was just another older woman he’s been connected to in my mind. I have been neutral and tried to stay out of it until I started to have this relationship and the drama surrounding this film shoved down my throat against my will. I wanted to ignore a lot of it because it’s sooooo easy to blame jealous Harry fans and of course, there are fans reacting this way purely out of jealous spite. But to blanket the entire fandom and their negative reaction to her and the film down to jealousy and internal misogyny is such a lame cop out. Olivia says the film is about female pleasure and wow of course that is intriguing given how little (or really lot?) we have seen of this film. But now seeing all of these leaks about the film, I have to wonder if female pleasure is actually what this film is about when so much of the content we’ve seen tells us otherwise. You have to agree that the premiere in Venice was incredibly awkward and telling. Not a single picture of the director with her leads on the red carpet together? Not a moment of interaction? Timothy Chalamet is the star of Dune and he was around for the entire kit and caboodle at Venice. Every other film premiere there lived on the opposite side of the spectrum when it came to ensemble interaction. You can’t tell me that wasn’t weird or some sort of gigantic red flag alarm that something has gone amiss. Some of the harries are putting blame on florence instead of Olivia. Is that not misogyny at work as well? Make it make sense. Anyway, I think it’s weird, all of it honestly. They haven’t been seen together since and we will literally never know the truth of whether it was PR or real (though given it all, I lean now slightly towards PR). Don’t worry darling will get an audience because ticket sales are being shoved down our throats too now from hshq. I just want all of this discourse to end because it’s super lame on both sides of the aisle when we just wanna enjoy Harry and his endeavors. One last thing, I’m seeing a lot of harries say that if this was a male director this would be fine so they’re giving Olivia a pass for that reason alone. That’s just perpetuating a never ending cycle of both male and female directors being shitheads and nothing will ever change. So let’s all be better and throw those rotten tomatoes at both men and women directors if they being actual shitheads and stop giving them your damn money. People are hating on this film and still going to watch it. Your money is your power people. Also, I just want to say that I have been on Twitter and seeing some of the discourse about there needing to be more warnings about the SA aspects of this film because it’s not actually showing female pleasure and out of curiosity poked through the profiles of these people if they were public. A lot of the profiles I dug through were not harries(went pretty far back on tweets to make sure these were not recently made profiles) but the actual general public saying these things so that was an interesting find. Just needed to get this off my chest thank you.
Firstly, thanks for interacting. I, like you, didn’t really have an opinion on Olivia prior to the announcement that she was directing Harry. I still don’t tbh. She seems smart and articulate. I’m also glad to hear that your opinion didn’t change after they started dating. I too have had this drama shoved down my throat against my will.
Ok, but if it’s not jealousy and internal misogyny then what is it?! Because no one had issues UNTIL THEY WERE PAPPED TOGETHER HOLDING HANDS. Also, she never said that DWD was ABOUT female pleasure. She said that the movie showcased female hunger that we don’t often see on film. And you’re right, Venice was awkward. It was awkward because the focus of the questions was more about the “drama” than about the actual movie! I think there is an issue there with O and Flo and I think Flo’s refusal to really promote this film made things even more awkward. I didn’t expect H and O to walk the red carpet together or interact prior to the drama, but after everything that went down, why would they do that?! It’d make the movie more about their relationship than the movie! I’m not blaming Florence for the drama - that started right here within the fandom - but she certainly didn’t help it by refusing to promote the film. I don’t know her reasons so I can’t blame that on misogyny.
If H and O are in a PR relationship, it’s literally the worst one ever created. They’ve literally done nothing together to promote this movie other than be papped together and living their lives. That’s not PR. If it were PR it’d look like Ben Affleck and J Lo talking about each other all the time and being obnoxious.
I’m tired of the drama too. I’m mad that the fandom has made something that should’ve been a lot of fun, a bad experience. I don’t think anyone should give O a pass bc she’s not a male director but I DO think that we wouldn’t be having this conversation if she were. That’s the point of the article and I agree.
This movie is Rated R and has a twist ending that may be disturbing. If that’s triggering for anyone, I strongly advise that they stay away. I hope that this movie does make a bunch of money bc it’s the least good thing that can happen after all of this. Everyone that has spoken out has had nothing but positive things to say about the atmosphere on set and that says a lot about the job she did. It’s a shame that this drama has overshadowed what should’ve been a really good time.
Thanks again for interacting. I hope all is well with and for you. I hope if you see DWD that you love it and have a great time. ❤️- m
