gonna go on a bit of a (positive) rwby rant
i love all the main characters of rwby so so much. i am definitely the type to watch something for the characters and the relationships between them, but it’s very rare for me to find a series that does such a great job with making me love ALL the main characters. there will always be a few that i just tend to like less, but there’s something about rwby and the way that these four girls simultaneously maintained their individuality and went on the same journey and stayed enjoyable to watch the whole time. that just says a lot about them.
i love how ruby stays pure and determined, even when she’s been pushed to the brink and forced to rethink her decisions. i love how weiss is both defiant and supportive, two traits that are so difficult to maintain but work beautifully together when they do. i love how courageous and forthcoming blake is, always standing up for those that can’t, because she knows what it’s like to be them. and i love how strong and confident yang is, not even despite, but BECAUSE of the horrors she’s faced.
these characters are so multidimensional and complex and interesting and fun to follow!!!! if even one of them was any less than they are now, who even knows if this series would be half as enjoyable as it is. i love the entire show, from the plot to the antagonists to the music to the fights to the worldbuilding. but what it excels in the most is its character writing. and thats why v9 hit so hard for me. they got to fully embrace the parts of the show that i love the most.

This years Bob's Pride design is quite sentimental. Our Art Director, Phil Hayes, told me stories of his gay father, Buz Hayes, who surfed every weekend in the 60s with his queer friends at Hermosa Beach.
This photo of Buz inspired my design this year. Buz was Phil's hero.🏳️🌈❤️🏳️⚧️

BISEXUAL REP IN TOH
One thing I really appreciate about this show is the bisexual representation. It shows us how bisexuality can appear differently depending on the relationships.
The three canonically bi characters are Luz, Hunter, and Eda.
Luz is dating Amity, so her relationship is lesbian passing
Hunter is dating Willow, so his relationship is straight passing
Eda is dating Raine, who is enby, so the relationship could be considered either lesbian or straight passing or neither
Despite the fact that these relationships look so different, it doesn’t change the fact that Luz, Hunter, and Eda are bi. Bisexuality is not a one sized fits all, and as a bi person, I’ve never been so satisfied with this kind of bisexual representation before.
