Frederick

You two weren't together at this point. You were good friends and you decided to take care of him, making him sit still since he's usually the caregiver. It's a moment he thinks of often because it helped him realize how much he loves you.

Jakob

Something simple like a walk through a garden or just an evening by the fireplace would be his favorite moment. You two ended up having a deep conversation and there was a share of laughter and giggles as Jakob was a bit of a menace, but the way you smiled during that peaceful moment is forever stuck in his head.

Saizo

His favorite memory would be a time where he trusted a decision you made. The situation was complicated, and you both had different ideas, but you were so determined, and you asked him to trust in you. It was difficult, but it was the first time he put his faith in you, and he thinks about how that led to so many more memories he cherishes.

Seteth

Both you and Flayn were nowhere to be found and he was in a bit of a panic. Until he found you two in his office, having snuck in when he had left, and you both surprised him with a sign and a fish dinner. The pride and excitement you and Flayn had on your faces over making him feel special is a memory that he cherishes so much.

Frederick

He can be protective, but Frederick knows you can also take care of yourself. If you need him to step in then he will, but he trusts you to handle things yourself.

In combat, then he's getting to your side as fast as he can if you are in danger. Doesn't like being too far away from you in the first place, but he also knows that he can't be right next to you the whole time. Out of combat, he's good at glaring people away but he's not going to start any fights as he prefers to just pull you away from the situation.

Wouldn't really want you to go out of your way for him, but he won't stop you if you do want to defend him from others. He appreciates your help if you help him in combat. But should someone insult him or something along those lines then he does appreciate you dismissing them (just please don't start any physical fights on his behalf).

Jakob

He is very protective of you, but he's so subtle about it. If anyone is giving you trouble or making you stressed, then Jakob is behind you and sending glares and bad vibes their way. You get cheery smiles if you turn and look at him, but Jakob will gladly make the other person's life hell if they upset you.

In combat, Jakob is staying by your side. He's not going to risk being unable to save you. Will not let you get the smallest scratch. If he could fight the wind when it blows dust and dirt your way then he would.

Jakob wouldn't really want you protecting him in combat, but if you wanted to defend him verbally with quick wit or clapbacks then he'll be amused and cheer you on. He'll be quick to step in if someone tries to say anything to you though.

Saizo

Tries not to show how protective he is. There's a constant eye on you to just make sure you're truly okay when talking to new people or just someone he doesn't know. If you try to catch him in the act then he's quick to look away.

Is by your side during combat too, ready to deflect any attacks or just be there to keep you safe. He's not by your side the whole time, but you are in his line of sight.

Would never ask you to protect him, but if you did during combat or even stepping in when someone spouts nonsense to him, he's blushing so much at you coming to his rescue and he's quick to make an excuse so you don't notice how flustered he is.

Seteth

He's not as protective with you as he is with Flayn (thank goodness), but he can still be pretty protective. He just wants to make sure you're okay. Will not tolerate anyone disrespecting you either. Even if it's just joking comments, he will be ready to scold and lecture.

Not really one for PDA but will step in and use plenty of words if someone is verbally upsetting you. If it's a combat situation, then he's ready with his wyvern and lance. Doesn't care if they're an archer, he'll be ready to come to your rescue no matter what.

Seteth would prefer you to not try and protect him in combat, he doesn't want the risk of losing you. He wouldn't be able to handle it if something happened to you on his behalf. Out of combat, he'd prefer you being like an emotional support for him instead of actually getting involved in some argument.

Y - Yearning (how do they cope when they are missing you? are they alright with being without you for an extended period of time or would they prefer to be with you every day of their life without exception?)

Frederick

While he does miss you, he does still have a duty to Chrom and so he'll do that. There are moments when he does think about you and hope you're doing alright, but it won't ruin his day that you're gone.

Frederick would be okay if you are away for a while. He can send you letters and gifts, always letting you know that he's thinking of you or anything funny that he thinks you'd be amused about. Even if it is at his expense.

Jakob

Wanted to try to go with you when you ended up having to travel away from him. Ends up pouting like a puppy and is more of a little shit to everyone else because you aren't there to reign him in.

Of course, he'd want you with him every day of his life. You're his significant other and his soulmate. He is just a sulking and annoying mess until you come back home to him.

Saizo

Saizo doesn't wear his heart on his sleeves, so it seems like he's doing just fine when you're away for a period of time. He is very much worried that you're okay and constantly keeping an ear and eye out for any information about your situation.

Would like to have you by his side constantly but knows it's unreasonable to ask that of you. That doesn't stop him from giving you gifts when you come back, not able to actually tell you how much he missed you because he'd be a stuttering mess.

Seteth

He's throwing himself into his work more than usual when you're gone. Seteth still takes time for Flayn, of course, but without you there he just focuses on work and hopes that you're back before he knows it.

Seteth would like you to stay by his side every day, but he knows that isn't the most realistic unfortunately. Just know that he's always getting you flowers or something you like when you get back because he always misses you so much.

Interpretations about the different M!Kana

You need to read this post before, because it'd make no sense otherwise.

These interpretations are MY interpretations, take them with a grain of salt (and don't hesitate to voice your own opinion!)

VEGETABLES: 

Regarding Shura and Saizo, I think it come with the idea of foraging as their works ask them to be very adaptative (it’s also something Shura comments in rank C, saying he had to "ingest some stinky and exotic food" at some point in his life). I think Saizo has to teach him how to found wild vegetables and roots because, even if Asugi is here, being a ninja is very risky and he better be prepared in case something happen to him. Kaze may not because Midori could be teaching him now and is probably more lax in general regarding his legacy, being the second born himself and Kana being the younger of the Saizo's family.

I like to think Izana could be a vegetarian for cultural reasons. There is no canon explanation or hint for this, but I think it could made sens for him allegedly being from a peaceful nation and descendant of god and all.

I’m also surprised Azama doesn’t have a Kana cooking vegetables too, as he is inspired by Buddhist monks, but maybe he let him experiment and choose for himself (or in this univers, it’s okay to eat meat for them). 

I have no idea why Silas!Kana do this cooking tho because Silas is a lordly knight, so meat is not something expansive for him, he is supposed to know what Corrin likes to eat as his best friend/lover (I’m referring to his dialogues about Corrin childhood’s favorite, who aren’t all vegetarian food) and his cooking is standard just like him. 

I don’t know why Odin!Kana do it either (however I don’t know him very well especially as Owain, so maybe he mentions to be a vegetarian or something in Awakening?).

MAPS: 

Some of the Kana could be more inclined to feed the horses because of their closeness with animals (Keaton, Kaden) or having a cavalier father (Silas, Gunter, Xander, Leo, Subaki). I can’t really explain why so many of them do it tho, but it’d make sens at least for these ones. Maybe Kana just likes animals/horse specifically by default?

I’m pretty sure Odin!Kana does give the maps to his mom to throw a bone to the Awakening fans (Robin being a tactician and pretty close to Lissa). Could also influenced by Odin/Owain's loves of weapons and thus strategy tie to it (eventually). 

Shura and Izana can come out as surprising, but maybe show their Kana have a global understanding of the wars than the others - maybe the other Kana are being sugarcoated about war, like it was for Elise and Corrin (and for some extend Sakura), especially if they already have an eldest to take the charge. Gunter and Laslow already have lost their families once, and probably don’t want their sons to do anything too dangerous ; Yukimura and the royals know better than anyone how harsh the war can be. Kaden and Keaton would probably not understand what would be the point of a map - not because they are dumb (well, some could argue about Keaton), but it’s not something that would made sense culturally. 

However, Izana and Shura have no reason to sugarcoat or aren’t ignorant enough about strategy. 

By joining Corrin’s army, Izana had broken his vow of neutrality, making his realm in danger: he has to win for its sake. Even if he is goofy most of the time, he can be serious when needed (as show in his support with his son already) and Kana is most likely to take his position after him, so it’s very serious not only for his people, but for his legacy. Barring the legacy (?) this could also applied to Odin too.

Shura is honest to a fault at this point of his life, it’s very much implied Kana knows his past as an outlaw. His Japanese support on the festival of bond have him mimicking his father’s brooding way to be and confirm he knows at least the basic ("I’m a dirty outlaw… stay away from me" etc.). He could have transmit him to think before running to the battlefield, especially since he was the leader of his gang: he had to plan his battles, going to which approach to choose and what do do in case it doesn’t go his way, as it seems to him to be the better option: his son as to be prepared to whatever coule happen to them.

HONESTY: 

This part is tricker because it can be interpreted in multiple ways and are tied to a part of Kana’s insecurities. Kana reacts when his father compliments his good work and it makes him snap to what Corrin told him. It can be show that Kana is either overthinking (as his fathers said) or him paying more attention in general.

I was actually very surprise that Kaze, Arthur, Kaden and Benny’s Kana didn’t notice or weren’t honest, but maybe it just didn’t cross their mind it could be considered as "cheating": all of these Kana are self-assured. 

Jakob, Subaki and Hayato are generally petty even as father, so Kana could be ignoring it to make sure to win, even if they technically cheat a little.

Jakob and the royals have probably putting some pression on their sons (more or less consciously) and thus, admitting they have twist their mother’s words could be more difficult than the other: it's too late for that now. Can be especially true for Xander!Kana, as he is the one showing some insecurity compared to the other royals. May also be true for Fuga!Kana, as Fuga is a chieftain too.

I do think Yukimura is pretty secretive in general, as for Niles. Kana may have notice his mother complimenting his works but not thanking him and her sad look, but didn't tell their father willingly. Their will to win was stronger than being honest.

Hinata!Kana and Keaton!Kana could just be inattentive like their father and thus not coming as malicious as the others.

Now, for the one who did tell the true, there are: Silas, Shura, Saizo, Azama, Odin, Izana and Gunter.

Silas is the paragon of virtue by excellence and probably encourages his son to follow his exemple. He is kind and always willing to lend a hand to whoever in need, and he seems to me to be emotionally intelligent in the plot and support. Kana probably inherits his traits, thus why he is also one of the Kana noticing his mother's sadness.

Saizo is a harsh but also a honest father, wanting the best for his children. He shows a gentler side to Kana (while still being himself and excepting a lot from his children in general). Due to his training as a ninja, he probably taught Kana to be attentive to the body languages and wording as he can found clues/hints for their missions and preventing betrayal (like his own father was). Kana may told him what he notices out of habits to make him reports, knowing every single details are important (and wishing his approval of his good works too).

Shura is a honest man after he joins Corrin's army, wanting to leave his past as an outlaw as much as possible. He seems to be very close to Kana (see below in tidbits) and I think he communicates quite well with his son... but it also shows Kana's insecurity, promptly questioning himself about being a bother to his mother. I think it's because of that Kana didn't pick up the sadness of Corrin, being to caught in his own troubles and possibly misunderstanding her expression as awkwardness and annoyance.

Save for the self-esteem part, Izana seems to be open at heart with Kana, and very doting (see his support with M!Corrin). Kana mays be confortable enough to tell him the truth, as his insecurity.

A little like but more "troll" than Saizo, Azama is honest. We can call out this man for being mean-spirited (to the point Kana is suspicious about his father being helpful to his mother), but he does think what he says. Beside, being a Monk, he probably encourages Kana to be honest too, by principes.

Odin is a bit tricker, but I think him being over the top and encouraging towards his children no matter how "weird" and strange they can be may have play to him being honest.

|-> Emotional intelligence:

Remember: Silas, Saizo, Izana and Gunter's are the ones noticing the "sad smile" of their mother.

I've already explain for Silas, Shura and Saizo so let's jump to Izana, Gunter Azama and Odin.

Izana is smart. It's something overlooked because of his silly personality, but he is very clever. In his support with F!Corrin, he cut off the conversation because he feels Corrin was being uncomfortable and didn't want her to worry about him. One also could wonder if his fortune telling is real and not just base on observation (even Corrin herself doubts it at some point). Plus, like said before, he is some sort of royalty, so he has to be sharp. With this in mind, it's something he could have taught his son.

Gunter has already had a son and is wise enough to let his child expresses himself and be vulnerable around his parents. I feel Gunter being very patient with him, and thus his son is calmer and observant than most.

I think why Azama!Kana didn't pick up her mother sad expression is tied to the lack of sympathy Azama shows to others (and not his lack of empathy, because he knows perfectly where to press the buttons thanks to it).

At last, Odin is not very observant either (or more probably, see only what he wants to see) such as claiming he makes her wife smiles thanks to his heroic exploits and tales... and when Kana grimaces at the thought, Odin claims "IT'S THE SMILE!". So well...

INSECURITY: 

Either, you saw it strictly as it is: some Kana are more insecure than the others. Or… you can see it as Kana being more okay to show some vulnerabilities to their father. In other words: the other Kana are as insecure as other ones, but are more open to talk to some their father.

Odin and Shura doesn’t come off as very surprising to have the most expressive/insecure Kana. Odin is very dramatic in general and it mays have rub off on Kana in that way, making him a little drama king (lol).  Shura tho, it’s a little… more sad. See, think about it: what happen if Miss "Everything is my fault!" and Mister "If I die, it’s maybe for the best" have a child? 

Yeah. 

This insecurity comes back in said festival of bonds where Kana is all jumpy and worry about upsetting his dad. I think the reason why Shura!Kana is more expressive than Niles!Kana is because Niles keeps his insecurity mostly for himself. You really have to dig to see him unsure, or even sad instead of cocky and flirty. Shura is, as said above, honest to a fault. He doesn’t have a façade, especially around Corrin (be it either male or female), and this part of horrible self-esteem never completely fade. Post-mariage, he keeps saying he is "grateful" for being choose by Corrin and wants to work on himself because she loves him. It’s a start for sure (especially in a world where therapy sounds like some mysterious medicine), but it wouldn’t be enough on the long run (and by the Dragons, let’s not start talking about a "fail route" if Corrin dies or leaves him). So, yeah, subconsciously, Kana inherits from the poor self esteem of his old man.

Izana being very expressive himself mays encourage Kana to be more open about what he feels (he honestly seems to be a person you can easily talk when not in "let's go party" persona).

I generally think the Corrinsexual!Kana show more insecurity because they didn't have a sibling. Thought Kana & his sibling support is unfortunately not as interesting as the one with his father, it also show they have a good relationship as a whole. I think it helps him feeling less lonely and have someone to talk when it becomes too difficult with his parents. It's also probably why F!Kana is insecure by default because, unless Corrin is married to Azura, she's always an only child.

Other tibits I forgot to give:

Izana, Shura, Azama (in a sort of way) are the only one calling out Kana for technically cheating. Azama just makes it notice while Izana and Shura are more teasing (Shura called him "little ogre" and Izana "little squirtbag" for cheating)

Some father have variations about the time Kana was a baby: Izana called him a "little fleshy, pink squishbubble", Shura said that "not so long ago [he was] soiling his underwear", Yukimura said he was "a cute little lump" (Laslow too but adds "pink"), Odin said he was an "undreamed dream", Gunter called him a "little babe", Benny "a little lump" Keaton said "a lump" without any adjective and Saizo a "crying pink lump" |-> Azama doesn't have this dialogue, instead saying "Heheheh... Well, good job. Listening to you now, you're sounding so grown up and responsible. I never thought I'd see the day where you were tripping over yourself to do dishes. It makes me realize that maybe I was treating you like a child, too..."

Izana gives a ton of nicknames to Kana and seems to be the dad to make punjokes everytime (Kana doesn’t say anything to this)

The fathers being present for the birth of Kana, implying they were next to Corrin in labor are: Shura, Azama, Arthur and Izana. They also had they kept "a close eye on [his] age" or something similar.

Fathers with a hot-blooded or sharp temper (Takumi, Saizo, Keaton...) have a Kana pouting more than the others.

Finally, I have found the Fire Emblem Incest Oasis. Please, tell me your thoughts on Saizo/Kaze and Chrom/Owain.

While I’m not particularly head empty about saizo/kaze it is lowkey what got me to play fates… my friend sent an image of the hubba tester…

I saw that, got head empty, read all 4 fics in the saizo/kaze tag, discovered someone had modded an s support for them, learnt more about the nohrsibs and the fact that camilleo is semicanon, read all those fics too, and then FINALLY received the new 3ds charger off amazon I was waiting for, so I could play this game. And promptly learnt to mod it. All in the span of like… a week.

Consider, though, a Saizo who does everything he does for Kaze? But can’t articulate that or express it to him? And a Kaze who distrusts him, who thinks that the reason Saizo keeps him in the dark and left in the first place is because he doesn’t care for him at all… who expects Saizo to leave him again.

Needless to say, while they’re not at the forefront of my mind they did kick off the whole fates thing!!!!! I do actually love them a LOT. I just got them married in my BR save. Asugi is green, and got 0 inherited skills he wouldn’t have already had anyway 😌.

Their dynamic is very Good, imo. Every time they interact they seem like they have so much to say, but lack the words to say it. It’s obvious that they love each other a lot but can’t express it, and that creates what appears as a sense of longing, especially on Kaze’s part. He’s clearly so concerned about his brother, and very hurt that his Saizo won’t share his troubles with him—yet struggles to find the words to just ask. There’s SO much tension there and I love it. They’d both benefit from just letting loose and fucking once or twice, I think. As stress relief. I wish I had more thoughts and headcanons about them, because I’d absolutely share them!!

I offer this, if you haven’t read it. It’s really beautifully written, bittersweet, with unrequited feelings from Kaze. The sort of thing where if a tag only has 4 fics…. you don’t expect to find something of this quality.

Side note, I think it’s fun that they’re twins. It’s rare that twins in games look so different from each other.

As for Chrom and Owain, mmmmmmm. I haven’t seen any content of them, but I have heard it mentioned once or twice and it’s a VERY good concept. I don’t really like Chrom being incesty actually, for whatever reason, but the idea of Owain having a massive crush on his hot, completely oblivious uncle?? Absolutely yes. Who wouldn’t have a massive crush on Chrom!?!

Especially if in his original timeline, Chrom was just. His cool, fun uncle, who died when Owain was relatively young. But he comes back in time and now Chrom is barely a few years older than him and extremely hot, oh no.

Chrom, happily married, thinking his nephew is a bit odd but fun. While Owain in his tent hopelessly jerks off to one of those posters Frederick made…

Hotaru and MC are now Kenshin’s nokizaru ninjas. When the sequel is announced I was like ??? because why is there a nokizaru group when there’s only Hotaru. I forgot MC is still considered a ninja who can go on missions. There’s way too many scenes of her just being a herbalist in the routes I kind of mistakenly thought she quit ninja-ing and is just a “herbalist” now.

Two is still not a group, but oh well.

They just got back from a mission and reporting to Kenshin about Hojo. Kenshin gives Hotaru a “hanamaru” (the spirally flower picture) for a job well done. He has this sheet for the flowers, and Kenshin promised him to let him ask whatever he wants if he fills up the flower sheet.

... Yeah, so this is what primary or kindergarten teachers do with their students. Like, if they get a perfect score in tests or homework they get a hanamaru. My school used to do something similar with gold sticker stars. This kind of feels weird for me TBH. For me it’s just not cute when a love interest who is ostensibly "of age” is acting like or being treated like an infant (Ikesen Mitsunari kind of has the same problem).

 Hotaru says he doesn’t want anything more, because his life is really great right now and says MC can have the wish when he fills up the Hanamaru. 

Later, after a big dinner, MC sees Hotaru receiving a letter. And then sometime later, a crow drops another letter. I thought it was Utsusemi (Saizo’s crow), but Hotaru says it’s not. It’s from the village. I wonder if this is a Momochi thing LOL. 

MC gets worried and asked Hotaru if she can see it, but Hotaru says he never reads them and had thrown all of those letter away. Kaede comes to visit and MC tells him about the Iga letters.

Everything is sus, but yeah, nothing to do for now since Hotaru destroyed them all and they can’t see what the letter says.

What do you think about kaze’s VA? I know you mentioned you already had a long convo about this but I’m curious. Personally I like fates va over feh. There’s something kinda stiff about his feh lines to me. You can also ignore this if you want if it’s too redundant

No no, I'm absolutely happy to answer this because this has haunted me ever since FEH launched. You're all good, but be warned you WILL get a spiel about this.

So before I talk about Xander Mobus, we need to talk about the casting issue with FEH. In Fire Emblem Fates, David Stanbra voiced Xander, Kaze, Siegbert, Shura, Sumeragi, and Kilma. But suddenly, when FEH came out, Xander was listed as being played by George Spelvin. A lot of people on Behind the Voice Actors theorized that this was David Stanbra working under a pseudonym. They still insist that to this day, but absolutely nothing has confirmed this. Especially when Siegbert was introduced to FEH and people noticed that Todd Haberkorn was voicing him (Which, Todd, I love you, and I love your Morgan and Joshua. But Stanbra fit like a glove for Siegbert). Additionally, not a single alt for Xander has sounded anything like Stanbra's performance in Fates. And to continue, each one of Stanbra's roles has been recast. Because Stanbra can't be found on any social media, and because SUPPOSEDLY "George Spelvin" isn't an actual actor, we have no confirmation.

And this really sucks because David Stanbra, in each of his roles, did such an amazing job playing all of those characters and differentiating them. Xander was stern and commanding, but dutiful and loyal. Kaze was mild, reassuring, and compassionate. Siegbert was polite and eager. And Shura, dearest beloved Shura, was rough and fiery, but gentle and sweet.

So unless someone is somehow able to track down Stanbra and ask him what happened, we will never know. I believe that whoever is voicing Xander is not Stanbra himself, just due to the vast difference in voice quality.

NOW... We should get onto Xander Mobus.

Xander Mobus plays Kaze, Innes, and Arvis. While I have no reservations about Arvis and Innes (and I think he was actually a good pick for Innes), I have some BIG opinions on his Kaze voice.

Performance... like I said, I think he does ok. I don't feel like he uses a whole lot of crazy emotion with his roles, but Arvis and Innes aren't exactly high energy. And like you said about his role as Kaze, he sounds very stiff, like he's trying to mimic Kaze's formal-ness except he's not pulling it off. Kaze is respectful, yes, but he's also warm and inviting. Mobus makes him sound too distant. But Innes he does great, though I feel like with Arvis he's trying to sound too dramatic, less like a natural fit and more like a teenager trying to sound edgy scary. It's still not a bad performance for Arvis though.

And like I mentioned, he wasn't a good fit for Kaze. I just think his voice isn't as naturally deep as Stanbra's was, so while Kaze in Fates sounds like he's actually Saizo's twin brother, an equally deep voice accompanied not by bite but by embrace, in FEH he sounds like a meek teen younger brother. Once again, Innes was a great pick and Arvis was okay.

Range... I honestly don't know what to say about Mobus's range. In almost everything I've heard him in, he does the same exact generic anime protag voice. And yes, I know he was the new announcer for Smash back when SSB4 came out, but that's a voice ANY guy can do. Hell, there's videos of OneyNG doing that voice perfectly while he's horsing around with his buddies. If you ask me, his best performance and emotion was his role as Jimmy Firecracker in Dragonball Z Abridged. I didn't even know it was him in that series.

Rounding it all up... Xander Mobus is more or less a 7/10. He's a lot like Bryce Papenbrook where there's just too much going on with his performances, and unfortunately trying to fill Stanbra's shoes didn't help.

the first character i ever fell in love with: Scarlet. As soon as I saw her, that was it, game over, everyone else step aside

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: Saizo. I liked the idea of him and Kaze working as a parallel to Corrin and their sibs on opposite sides (at least if you do Conquest), but ultimately he fizzled for me

a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: Kagero/Orochi. I still like them, but I guess I like the memory of liking them? The fandom never really gave me the dynamic I craved, and I wasn't put together enough to ever write anything for them myself.

my ultimate favorite character™: Mozu. I know the Donnel archetype annoys a lot of people but I love her for it. Get big and strong, my daughter. Kill god. Rebuild your village. You deserve the world.

prettiest character: a ridiculously hard question when the whole cast is pretty (at minimum in the generic way) but I'd have to say Reina. That's just a pretty lady right there.

my most hated character: there is competition for this one because the characters I hate I really hate, but I think the winner for Tokyo's Most Hated is Laslow. I hate his stupid face. Why are you even here. Go bother someone who likes your trope.

my OTP: oh god this one is also hard if only because none of the ships really make OTP status for me. If I had to pick, I'd say probably Charlotte/money just kidding mostly Sakura/Hana

my NOTP: Camilla/anyone.

favorite episode: gonna pretend this means "favorite map"; my favorite Birthright map was the Woods of the Forlorn where you fight Leo because it had fantastic vibes; for Conquest, definitely the Great Bridge of Suzanoh where you fight Takumi, again for the vibes

saddest death: if we're talking canonical/inevitable deaths, then Oboro and Hinata at the aforementioned Great Bridge of Suzanoh. I Care Them Much.

favorite season: again, gonna pretend this means "favorite route". Also preparing for the ghosts of FE fans past to gang up on me as a fake fan because my favorite route was Birthright. Conquest made me angry with dumb decisions, and Revelations was what it was.

least favorite season: Conquest. Fuck Garon and playing his silly little games.

Bubblegum's Backlog, Vol 11: Soul Hackers 2

Okay so let me just start off with saying that I did not expect to like this game as much as I do. When it was announced, I simply saw it as a new game from a developer I liked, so immediately it was an instant purchase. But this is now probably one of my favorite turn-based RPGs of all time.

Personally? 10/10 will play again. If I look at it a little more critically though, it's more of a 6 or 7. The artstyle is really intriguing to me, and I'm a slut for cyberpunk worldbuilding. The gameplay's basic SMT stuff, except for the sabbath system, which was thoroughly enjoyable. But the story was kind of... bland? boring? I don't know exactly how to describe it. All I know is that if it weren't for how amazing the characters were, I probably wouldn't have been motivated to finish it any more than I am any other game.

So let's talk about the characters. For starters, there's Ringo, the protagonist. She's such a joy to play as. I'm not used to female protagonists that aren't just there for fanservice, so it was nice that she had character to her. A whole load of character, at that. Her sass and jokes were much more welcome than the typical silent mc bullshit we get from other SMT protags. In fact, I actually wrote an essay on why I think she's the best one of them all for class last semester, so I can and will fight you on this.

Figue's the next one I want to talk about, because while intially I thought she was kind of unnecessary, her role in the finale (which I won't get into because of spoilers) had me hooked. Her dynamic with Ringo was really touching, and kind of relatable. I think not taking the time to understand how a friend feels is something we've all done at one point or another, and it's certainly something everyone's been at the other end of. Plus, any character that goes through an arc of figuring out what it means to be human will probably be one I'll sympathize with.

Arrow and Milady work really well together. The parallels between them were well done, and I think their relationship was developed incredibly naturally. Milady I ended up liking a bit more than Arrow, though, just because Arrow felt like a basic anime protagonist. Even though I'm not a big fan of love stories, I found Milady's love towards Iron Mask to be bittersweet. Watching her be so confident in how much she cared for him despite the fact that he was using her broke my heart a little.

And speaking of romances, Saizo and Ash were like, the number one reason I wanted to finish this game. In fact, when their side plot resolved I had half a mind to just drop the game because I didn't care about what happened to the other characters. Saizo's so sweet and just a total bro that I couldn't help but like him the most out of all the characters. Ash's struggle of "what she has to be" vs "what she wants to be" is - to the surprise of no one familar with my blog - one I strongly relate to, and I'm glad she was able to have a good ending. She's also really pretty and I'm super gay but let's ignore both those facts for now.

All in all, this felt like one of those games was tailored for me and me specifically. I hope other people can/do enjoy it as much as I do, but a lot of why I like it is so personnal that I get why it's not more popular (besides Atlus not knowing how to market it, that is). I want everyone to play this game, but I think you should only pick it up if it sounds interesting to you.

Oh, interesting! My main focus is usually the Fates crew because I love the adult versions of the Trio, but I actually really do like Brady/Owain! Goofy swordsman and crybaby healer with a face of a thug… mothers are childhood friends… they were probably childhood friends… Brady canonically tells stories of Owain to orphan children to comfort them 🥺 I love them your honor

Also I never see content for it, but I actually do like Hinata/Odin. Their supports were cute. I have a fic idea I’ll never write for Hinata & Odin get stranded in a mountain on the Nohr/Hoshido border while doing separate missions. This is during the war, but since no one else is around and it’s better/safer to be trapped together than alone, they make a temporary truce and become really good friends over the course of like 1 or 2 nights. They go their separate ways when the storm lets up and never mention it to anyone, but as soon as the end of the war is officially announced, they are so excited to see each other and see totally at ease with one another (although no one else knows how they met before now, lol)

Also @kimium and I have joked about Laurent/Owain before and it’s a crackship but. Genuinely, I do want to see it. Laurent canonically loves frivolous things anyway

For Inigo, I think he has a really big heart and for all his flirtations, I think he really does fall in love with everyone just a little bit. So I think Inigo is a little bit in love with multiple people/has a lot of crushes at the same time! So for all his Supports where he flirts with someone, I don’t think he’s fully faking his affections. He is a ham in some ways, but I think he genuinely finds the people he’s complimenting beautiful. So technically Inigo/Everyone is real, lol.

But also, I think he has a childhood crush on Gerome in particular! He’s a “cool” guy who is handsome and easy to tease, lol. I don’t think the fact Inigo was willing to stay in the bad timeline for him is a characteristic unique to only his crush on Gerome since Inigo is known to not want to leave people behind (see: Future Past DLC with the bridge, his sentimental heart, etc.), but I do think it is a testament to how much he cares. Plus, they can fluster each other like no one else (and iirc I think Gerome has canonically seen Inigo dance before and said it was good? In some DLC dialogue? Although I may be wrong). Anyway, they’re fun!

I like Laslow/Saizo for the same reason. Feels like Laslow loves to harass/be harassed by solemn masked redheads, lol.

I think teenage Severa had a gay awakening with Kjelle. Like. Just look at their Supports. Kjelle straight up asks if Severa has a crush, and there’s good reason for that. I don’t think Severa realizes it at the time, but she is very attracted to Kjelle here.

Severa/Lucina don’t have supports but in the Future Past DLC, even though Severa still has her “you should be thankful” type of dialogue with Lucina, she also tries to sacrifice herself so Lucina can get away. This may be because she’s living up to her mother’s duty of protecting the crown, as she says, but I genuinely do think Severa respects Lucina a lot. I think they’d be really cool as noble & retainer some day!

Also, Severa/Noire! Their supports make it clear Severa is always watching over Noire and even walking her to the bathroom in the dark. Childhood friend trope shining through again. But also, I genuinely like that Noire is clumsier around Severa because she feels she can really trust/rely on her, and Severa genuinely likes watching over Noire.

So before we begin: I tried my best with this review, for some reason writing this review had me on like 100 with being hyper. I also asked a friend to assist me since it’s been awhile since I’ve done Yukimura’s

Route summary as always kinda spoilers:

Remember how I said Masamune’s route gave me my virginity back? Yeah Yukimura’s is full on cavity sugar filled rom-com with the dark military drama

He’s kinda like a “I SHALL GIVE MY LIFE FOR MY CLAN AND MILORD SHINGEN! 😈” but mixed with a “😳🥺”

So basically as most light routes go:

you get sent off as a poison tester in place of your younger brother Yahiko. Disguised as Yahiko you arrive to Shingen’s castle with a big pat on the back.

No really Yukimura was quick to welcome you into the ranks of men. Gotta be with the bros right? He’s so cheery about it too, like he’s so pumped up about MC being there that his retainer even had a: “I didn’t know you were doing that kind of recruiting” statement

I’d also like to add, Yukimura and Masamune visit each other’s routes quite often 😂

(tbf the only reason Masamune found out MC was a girl was because he pulled out his sword on Masamune and it cut her. SO THANKS YUKI!)

This was from a recent event story 👇🏼

Anyways, as Yuki starts to experience confusing attractions to MC (his whole experience with this is fucking hilarious)

But bam all of a sudden Yukimura finds out the MC is actually a woman because silly MC ups and slips off the roof one lovely evening and by accident he touches her chest while grabbing her. He puts two and two together then realizes, “oh shit” she was a girl.

He’s so horrified from having done this to her that he later swears to protect her and help keep her identity a secret. (He’s so cute isn’t he 😂)

Long story short, this fails because Saizo figures it all out (ofc he did lmfao) tells Shingen

she almost died

Spoiler: After Saizo and Shingen engage in a conversation about this, they concluded that MC might be a spy for the Oda. So they ordered her to be beheaded (ouch)

and then Yukimura is like

“WAIT SHES MY WIFE!”

then next thing you know they’re on their way to meet the Sanada fam.

So although there is the cute, happy parts, you’ve gotta expect the sadness ahead.

So one thing, as always the parents in this game aren’t always angelic..or alive.. haha sorry

Yuki’s dad well his dad’s expectations for Yuki is to die in battle basically. So that’s pretty interesting to look for in this route. Especially because MC’s father died giving his life up to war.

MC is pretty badass in this one too, she’s got her risky battles and their hard challenges.

MC is awesome because yk she’s not gonna just let this guy go and kill himself.

So she does something special

Spoiler:

She gave her dads hairpin to him before battle so as a promised he’ll live to return it for her.

To conclude:

MC: 9.5/10

Funny and cheesy vigin 101: 10/10

Sadness and angst: 7.8/10

Hot and bothered: just wait for the claim me at last event

Anyways Yuki is really fun and events don’t do him justice with his goofiness. I’d say it’s definitely worth it. Saizo and Yuki are definitely a good pair to do

Hell finish off the family and do Nobuyuki and Shingen next if you haven’t done it 😂

Headcanons for Ryoma’s Birthday

I cannot finish fic on time to save my life, this we know. I considered writing some fic for his birthday but it just did not work out... So! I am going to do headcanons about Ryoma for his birthday, cause I just think he’s neat. Hopefully they’re to someone’s liking!

• This man cannot flirt to save his life. If he ever gets like, a good flirting line in, it is by chance more than anything. He’s really awkward about his feelings and struggles to convey his interest in someone. Pretty much his only solution is to just tell the person outright how he feels, which is a little forward for most people. He also is unlikely to notice if someone starts flirting back with him, for he doesn’t like to make assumptions. So basically, if you want Ryoma to know you’re interested, you’re going to have to make a big sign that says so and smack him with it repeatedly.

• Has a weird relationship with his appearance. On the one hand, he looks a lot like his father and he’s very proud of that fact. In fact, some people say that you can actually see his eyes light up when you tell him so — but even with this being the case, he would probably tell you that he is the least good-looking of his siblings. It seems to be not so much that he thinks that Sumeragi was unattractive, so much as it is that he thinks of himself as more average in terms of appearance than the others. This is perhaps just another element of his classic ever-hard on himself behaviour. 

• In a light nap, Ryoma is perfectly pleasant. Quiet and all around alright to be around. Once he gets into a deep sleep, though? He snores obnoxiously loudly. He has done so since he was little, but it is much less cute now that he’s a grown man. Spending a night next to him is like spending a night sleeping next to a grizzly bear. Sometimes, the snoring gets so bad that he wakes himself up wondering what that awful sound is.

• A bit shameless when it comes to nudity. Not in like, a weird Niles sort of way, but just in the fact that he doesn’t make a big deal out of it. The difference between observations of nudity in Hoshido and Nohr is already vast, but even by Hoshidan standards he might not be characterized as super shy. He just doesn’t make a big deal out of it, approaches it with an “it is what it is” attitude. Sometimes the body is not clothed, it happens.

• Though the relationship between him and Saizo is largely professional, they were good friends as little kids. Since Saizo’s father worked for Ryoma’s father, they were often each other’s playmates when the adults were together. Being high prince and surprisingly good at playing people like fiddles, Ryoma roped Saizo into a lot of games as children. They especially liked going to ponds together to try and catch frogs. 

• His favourite flower (after a cherry blossom, of course) is the orange osmanthus. They remind him of tiny orange suns blossoming from the earth. He has many memories of being in the gardens with Ikona and seeing them, so he ends up associating them with her in some way. Not that he minds. He likes to have reminders of people who are gone. 

• If Orochi had to conjure up one “funny for everyone else, embarrassing for him” story out of her mind about him, it would be from when he first began to practice giving speeches. Mikoto had him practice a few in Shirasagi Castle Town, which many people happily attended. Many of them were great — the first one... not so much. There was nothing wrong with Ryoma’s speech in itself. The people simply failed to focus on it, due to the fact that his voice was going through some er... changes at the time. It was cracking and squeaking in all manner of different ways, and every time it happened, it seemed like the high prince’s face just kept getting pinker, and everybody was just trying not to sympathy-laugh at poor Ryoma. Even Mikoto nearly failed to keep it together. If anybody brings this incident up, Ryoma will sulk about it.

• One of those people who can crack like, every part of his body. He doesn’t do it often, because he knows some people are really bothered by it (Hinoka in particular hates it), but will usually do it when he’s by himself. Would potentially crack his knuckles as a threat, but usually refrains on the basis that it is a total cliché.

• Has an epigrammatic sense of humour. If you don’t know what that means, it’s like the Oscar Wilde style humour. However, it is notable that his humour changes once intoxicated. Rather than being dependent on his cleverness with words, it’s more self-deprecating. Usually it’s all in good fun, but every once in awhile, he says something a little out there and his loved ones have to ask if he’s okay. Biggest contender for that outcome he’s ever had was the response of “What are you going to do, tell my father?” to Xander during a playful ribbing session.

• I know the game wants us to think he’s straight, but this is one of those times where I reject canon in favour of my own interpretation. I think he’s bisexual, he just has a heavier lean toward women. Since per the Japanese Rhajat/F Corrin S-support, Hoshido seems to be implied to have some homophobia hanging about, he’s quiet about it for the most part. He knows it might colour the more traditional people’s opinions of him. He’d like to be more open about it some day, and would try to support LGBT+ people in his own reign. 

• A lot of people think he is sensitive about being touched or doesn’t like to be. This is absolutely not true. People mostly just avoid it with him as they are under the impression that he is too important. He literally could not care less. He loves having his hair played with, his hands held... he loves hugs and he doesn’t mind if you want to hang onto his arms, and he likes pats on the shoulders and the ruffling of his hair... This poor man is terribly touch-starved. It’s okay to touch him. In fact, please do.

Entry 69: Fuga’s Wild Ride

Class Profile - Master of Arms

A promotion for Samurais and Villagers that can use Swords, Axes, and Lances. Class of Fuga, possible class for Hana, Hinata, Mozu and Hisame. Their skill Seal Strenght lowers an enemy's Strength after combat. Their other skill, Life and Death, boosts damage dealt and damage taken by 10. Their design is great, giving them a cool white hood and having them tie a bunch of weapons to their back.

Class Profile - Mechanist

A weird Hoshidan class that wields Shurikens and Bows. Promotion of Ninjas and Apothecaries. Slightly bulkier than Master Ninjas with extra range, but slower and lacking in the power from Master Ninja skills. Their extra movement probably comes from the fact that they ride around a fucking robot dog puppet thing. Class of Yukimura, possible class for Saizo, Kaze, Kagero, Asugi, Midori and Senno. Fun fact, instead of the game saying they cannot use stones on the unit screen it says they can’t use saws for some reason. They have this odd design I can only describe as nerdy, which works for Yukimura and no one else.

Class Profile - Nine-Tails

A promoted version of the Kitsune class. Promotion for Kaden and Selkie. Design-wise, they’re red and white versions of Kitsune, both in human and fox form, also they have nine tails. This is a very forgettable class, as you can see by my complex thoughts on it. In addition to innate boosts to Crit, Avoid, and Crit Evade, Nine Tails learn the skill Even Better, which heals them on even turns, and Grisly Wound, a skill they share with Wolfsenger that reduces the enemies HP after you hit them. Like, as a flat percent after battle that cannot kill, I mean.

Conquest Chapter 20: Winds of Change

The team arrives in the Wind Tribe village, who refuse to let the gang pass because of attacks from Nohrian mages. Moron volunteers to talk to the Wind Tribe Chief, Fuga. Fuga, worried that Yato has fallen into the wrong hands, decides to test Moron and their army to see if Moron is worthy.

This map, commonly called Fuga’s Wild Ride, takes place on a series of bridges. Each turn, massive gusts of wind fling your units halfway around the map. It isn’t really a hard map, but goddamn is it obnoxious. Speaking of obnoxious, Hayato appears in this map. He doesn’t join for some reason though.

After battle, Fuga says that Moron is worthy. This is great for Moron, who was on the verge of being introspective and questioning their actions.

Support: Corrin/Laslow

C: Laslow asks if Corrin was staring at him and uses that as an excuse to ask them out to tea. Corrin says no and Laslow says that every day could be their last.

B: Laslow gives Corrin a gift and talks about how life is fragile and friends can disappear in a moment. Corrin realizes he's just hitting on them and turns him down.

A: Corrin agrees to go to tea with Laslow. Laslow says he hates saying goodbye because he's had to do so far too much in his life.

S: Laslow, after a single date, falls so madly in Corrin that he cannot function and feels excruciating pain. Corrin says she loves him too and they get together after okaying it with Xander. Also, Laslow asks Corrin to travel with him back to Ylisse.

Review: Fun fact, this Support is different depending on Corrin’s gender. If Corrin is female, Laslow hits on her, but if Corrin is male he asks Corrin to be his wingman. Honestly though, considering his interactions with Odin, I’d have been fine if Laslow was just bi and the Supports were the same. Focussing on the actual quality, this one is really good. It has Laslow be his normal casanova self, but there’s this deep sadness shining through the cracks. Having characters return from Awakening was a gimmick to boost sales, but this game’s Supports do sometimes make it work by acknowledging the trauma and sorrow that Laslow, Selena, and Odin have been through.

Support: Benny/Felicia

C: Felicia, scared of Benny, accidentally spills tea on him.

B: Felicia apologizes for being scared of Benny. Benny jokes about being a cannibal and Felicia runs away.

A: After seeing Benny feed baby ducks, Felicia realizes he's harmless.

S: Felicia and Benny get together. A lot of S-Ranks are boring, okay?

Review: A bit bland, but Benny being the best character in the game is always nice.

Support: Selena/Xander

C: Selena tells Xander he needs to get a sense of humor.

B: Selena tries to teach Xander a joke. It isn't a funny joke. Why is this a Selena support? Anyway, Xander says he can't be happy so long as a single Nohrian is suffering.

A: Xander tries telling jokes to his siblings. They think he's sick. Xander realizes that Selena is trying to make him happy for Camilla's sake.

S: Selena apologizes for trying to change Xander. Xander proposes and Selena accepts, even though she knows she will eventually have to leave Nohr and never return, a plot point that somehow has never been mentioned before.

Review: Overall, this one is inoffensive, but lacks anything really interesting.

Support: Charlotte/Nyx

C: Charlotte says it must be hard for Nyx to get what she wants because she looks like a child and can't seduce men.

B: Charlotte tries to help Nyx get people to do things for her by having Nyx act like a small child. I'm going to interpret this as Charlotte wanting Nyx to appeal to cuteness because the alternative makes me want to vomit.

A: Nyx tells Charlotte that she's attractive when she isn't pretending. Charlotte asks if Nyx ever asks and Nyx wonders if she's pretending not to be an evil monster.

Review: Yeah that was fine I guess. Not good, but whatever.

You know I've always had this scenario in my mind and always thought about how it would turn out. The basic premise is that you (the summoner) exist in other worlds sorta like how there are other Askr's. Maybe some of these versions of you existed in other Fe games and had a completely different life than the you who was summoned to Askr. Then that led to me thinking about what if one of these versions of you was in a relationship with one of the Fe characters and somewhere along the way you died in battle protecting them. After some time they get summoned to Askr to see "you" but not the one they knew, but you from our world. It makes me kinda wonder how some of them react to seeing "you". How would someone like Chrom, Ike, or even someone from 3h would act? What are some of your thoughts? This has been on my mind for a long time and I wanted to see how someone else who played Feh would think of this. Thank you for your time. ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ

When he had first laid eyes on you...or well….laid EYE on you, he was taken aback so terribly. If one could compare he’d best relate it to a poisoned arrow shot right into his heart. He couldn’t believe it. He thought he was seeing a ghost. Upon seeing you come into view when he was first summoned he wanted to run and grab you and hold you so close that you just might die. Again.

But he knew better. Ever so quickly did he know better. The [ Y/N ] he was seeing now was not the [Y/N] he held ever so dearly in his own World. No. It couldn’t be. And he had to learn to quickly place those thoughts aside. Being a Saizo though, he couldn’t. He needed to investigate. He needed to lay his woes and curiosity to rest. And so he did what he did best. He patrolled. Out of sight, in the shadows. Every time he was able to. Which, being a ninja, was always. Even though his own Lordship , Ryouma was there, his heart told him he needed to place importance there.

For a while he did stay away though. He made sure to never get too close to you. If you were both in the same room, he did his best to not gaze at you for too long. But there was so much that you and his [ Y/N ] had in common. It was almost sickening. It tore at his heart strings. But he steadied himself around you.

So...So...SO MANY similarities….Like how you smiled even when you were nervous. The way your head bobbed when you were trying to think of a plan. Or how your eyes glossed over when you sat and just...watched the sky. Like how the both of you would on quiet nights in Hoshido….

Eventually you would catch him though. And he’d be floored so badly. He should have seen this coming though. Back in Hoshido you were always so predictable. At least to him you were. You would tease him,

“You just have really weird supernatural ninja skills!’ You would raspberry from time to time. He would take your hand and hold it and simply sigh,

“It is through the deep connection between us that allows me to know every step you take.” His voice always soft in this fact. His large hands holding your soft and small ones. You would wrinkle your nose and roll your eyes.

Here in Askr, you would do this too with those you were close with. When Shareena would joke with you about a Hero you might like. Even in distaste when Loki would attempt to smother you in her plots.

His mind was elsewhere now as you stood before him, a brow cocked up pretty high, palms on your waist. His eye blinked, coming back to reality. You seemed annoyed. Like how Hoshido you would be whenever you found him stalking you.Oh wait, he was caught.

“Hello???” You huffed at him.”Saizo, you’ve literally been in this corner for so long. Are you-“ You wrinkled your nose with annoyance.”Are you STALKING me?!” When you got annoyed or angry at him ,you were surely a force to be reckoned with. Maybe that was also what had drawn him to you back in Hoshido…You were the only one who dared step up to him...

Saizo, this is not Hoshido anymore!

“I…”He started, a hand raised as his digits fiddled with the air as if the words were just there for him to pluck. “I was...patrolling.” His voice was faint. His eye glossed over a bit.

“You’re ALWAYS patrolling. Don’t you do anything else?” You were truly annoyed with this man. Every word pinging his memory. Like flash backs in a reel they spun in his head. “I’ve heard the others and what they’ve said about you.” At this point your arms were crossed over your chest, hips slanted to the side, toes tapping. “I can assure you I’m fine. Go back to Ryouma.” You honestly weren’t trying to sound harsh to him. But him practically breathing down your back for no apparent reason was weird and unnerving.

“I know you’re worried that if I’m not ‘tactful’ enough your precious Lordship will be in danger, but trust me, I got this.” You’d been in this world long enough to know how to care for yourself. And by care for yourself you meant you slaved nights away planning and going over maps to make sure you got the best results when taking out the Charges of Heroes that were placed into your hands the moment you rolled out of that accursed mirror.

Yeah, you fell into a mirror. That’s how you got here.

While you went on about how Saizo could just stop being a creep and let you be, all he could do was see and hear his Beloved [ Y/N ] back in Hoshido. Every detail etched into his memory. Now playing out in front of him. It almost brought him back to the day before...He lost you.

It was so cold that night too. Assassins tried your patience. Wars with other countries having brought back the instincts of war within the both of you. You had been molded into that of a seasoned and fine Leader. You had been busy with being a leader and making hard decisions. He didn’t want you to,though.You going out onto the battlefield always made him nervous. It was why he was always by your side. To take on the muscle. Be the muscle. You refused to sit back and watch though. You had a duty to the small kingdom you protected. It was your duty to be out there in the fields as well.

By this time you were still going on about how he needed to relax. There was already a plethora of other Hereos trying to “keep you safe” and you most certainly did not need more. You also just wanted him to relax and worry about himself and to just make sure he was in top form for whenever it would be that he was needed. You just wanted him to...be.

In times like this, back in Hoshido, whenever you would go off on one of your ‘angry tangits” at him, he would usually shut you up with a passionate yet soft kiss. Pulling you into his big , firm and strong arms and pressing his unmasked lips against yours. And you would melt. So simple. But not here. He couldn’t do that here. He couldn’t because you weren’t his...You someone else’s [ Y/N ] and it tore at him. Any fool would act on their hearts will, but his will of mind was stronger. Even when it was breaking apart for the second time.

“Ok are you just not listening to me or something?” You were more than annoyed. Having been going on about how he needed to chill. His eye looked at you. Almost in a glare.

Oh, if you only knew [ Y/N ].... If you only knew.

He snapped to it finally and his brows furrowed at you. “If you weren’t so aloof about what goes on about you, I wouldn’t need to ‘stalk’ you.” He gruffed. Mentally slapping hisself. That sentence was what started your relationship in your own world. And he knew he messed up by saying that. You rolled your eyes at him.

“If I had an orb for every time I was told that I would have…” you paused…”I don’t know how many but I know it would be a lot!’ You threw a finger down. He scoffed at you.

“Simpleton.” Was all he said to you after, quickly vanishing without a trace. Damn he was good ninja. You didn’t even see him leave.

He’d not be far though...He’d be at the corner of your eye, every time. Just back in his world. Ever so silently watching you from afar. Holding onto his heart break every time he would lay eye on you. And you would never know. You’d never have a clue that the man everyone rumored to be as cold hearted as he looked, once held you to the utmost importance in his life. He loved you dearly. So very dearly...You’d never know though. Never...

Bakuten prologue

Ok time to harble garble about this new game

Not all of the love interests show up in the prologue, just like how in SLBP a few of the guys don’t show up 

I was wrong, MC and her mum are workers at a kimono tailor store, they don’t own it. 

The shop’s regular customer is not!Pierre/not!Francisco, John Manjirou (OMG why always historical persons)

Well, ok, John Manjirou historically has been living in the US for quite a long time so they can justify Western stuff. He always skimps on paying and drops off Western photos in lieu of money. The mum doesn’t approve because of the rampant anti foreigner movement, but MC likes Western outfits and collects them. MC keeps them in this special box in her room

(OMG, Voltage, really though, why you always do this to historical persons, poor real-life Manjirou)

One of the Love Interests wanders into the shop. He broke his sandals and needs help. Sandal-repair is not really in the same line of work as tailoring, but MC does her best. Handsome Man thanks her and leaves. 

A ruffian, well known for having a super aggressive anti-foreigner stance shows up. But just then MC’s little sister wanders out with MC’s photo collection. The man got angry and started threatening the little sister. So to save her MC destroyed her precious collection so the angry man would leave.

Personal comment: I’m sorry, I know kids are innocent and stuff but I really kind of want to slap the kid. Like sure, the ruffian was an asshole, and he deserves to be beat into pulp, but once she’s safe and such, I want to give her a telling off as well. Can’t you wait for later? Or just ask with words? Why’d you have to take the stuff outside? Sorry, I really hate it when people touch my personal belongings and move them around, even if it’s my own family, so this scene makes me mad.

Anyway. MC sadly collects the shreds of the photos, and Sakamoto shows up to help pick up the pieces. MC pretends like they’re just trash and escapes back into the store. She finds a photo in her kimono “pocket” and was glad that she at least still had one left.

Takasugi wanders in with two geishas in tow (what a floozy LOL). He sees a pretty kimono and offers to buy it, but it’s Ookubo’s order and MC can’t give it to him. Ookubo appears and the two have a tense moment (why) 

Manjirou comes flailing in and starts blabbering about Sonnō jōi and photographs and the two LIs are like WAIT WHAT. Thankfully the shop owner came back and MC drags Manjirou away. They chat in a teahouse, and Manjirou offers to tell good stories about foreign lands to cheer her up. Apparently he knows MC’s Dad, and Dad had told Manjirou that MC likes foreign things. Manjirou wanders off leaving his food.

Sakamoto, who has been sleeping on a bench somewhere asks if he could have the leftover dango. 

Ay, the Saizo vibes is Stronk with this one. 

MC worries about the whole foreign thing, but Sakamoto stops her babbling. He says like it’s ok to have things you like and to treat them as precious, and then wanders off. 

But he left his sword and MC tried to chase after him. She sees him come into a building and runs there, but she was caught by Hijikata.

Hijikata: Woman what are you doing with the sword >:( Okita: No no, vice-commander don’t be like that with a girl

There’s a VIP that’s arriving so security is tense. Anyway MC tells them Sakamoto left it, and the Shinsengumi aren’t sure if that’s true. But Katsu appears and confirms that it is Sakamoto’s sword (Katsu is Sakamoto’s teacher)

Katsu asked if she’s Sakamoto’s lover, but she says they just met today LOL. There is a big fuss and the VIP shows up. It is the shogun candidate Yoshinobu.

Yoshinobu and Katsu go inside to do their business and the Shinsengumi tells MC to leave. MC goes home, but then realized that her remaining photo disappeared. She goes out to look for it. She bumps into Taisuke and she tells him she’s looking for something she dropped. 

She keeps looking and saw the same ruffian from earlier finding her photo. She wanted to leave it, but remembering Sakamoto’s supportive words she decided to come forwards and fight for the photo. The angry bastard tries to attack her and a voice tells him to stop.

Prologue ends, and you choose which suitor rescued you. As a starter pack, only Sakamoto, Takasugi, and Ookubo are available.

Okay so I'm gonna break this down into segments and header it with a different colour some will he shorter than others. Also sorry if I spell names of county wrong and rember this is just my opinion

Story

Also heads up I played it in this order conquest -> rev -> birthrights I know I should have swapped rev and birthrights but it was really expensive and I was like 14

Fates story is not the best but deffently not as bad as some people said. Overall I'll be honst I liked conquest story but not birthrights which I know most people have the opposite oppion on but like I found conquest to be more fun I enjoyed the idea of sneaking around garons back with your siblings and being powerless at times to stop a lot of the things like the massacre where scarlet dies and ryoma death there where moments I just groaned at the screen but apart from that I had more fun. Birthrights I'll be real the story kind of bored me i only really found certain parts interesting but my favourite moment from fates actually came from birthrights and it was the Xander fight where he killed elise and then let corrin kill him it was tragic and sad and I live for angst ngl. rev story I don't remember to much sorry I mostly fouced on the characters ngl but that sence with the kid turning into the faceless was really cool and also the one with makoto and she fucks with you and the doors but idk if that's classed as story or gameplay but either way that was sick

Gameplay

Fates gameplay was soild as fuck I will die on this hill. The pair up was cool, the skills and classes where sick and the character balancing minor some major problems *cough xander ryoma takumi cough* was pretty cool and corrin is not nearly as broken as Robin or byleth. I like to play conquest the most because I'm a maschoist lol but even though most of revs maps where gimmicks I love them there so iconic, tbh most of fates maps are like I understand most of fates criticism but the maps, apart from rev as not everyone likes gimmicks, I just dont understand

Phoenix mode

Honstly play the game how you want to if that's on normal Phoenix go a head I dont care you play the game how you want to. Like yeah Phoenix mode may take away all the difficulty but casual took away perma death and that's the most played game mode because that's what people want and if people want Phoenix then just let them have it doesn't bother me I will never play it but I dont care if others do.

Corrin

Okay so I actually like corrin and before you look away I will explain why I think their dislikes and why I do like them and think how they could be improved

I think the promblem people have with Corrin is that they dont have enough personilty to be a regular character but they have to much that they can't be an avatar if you know what I mean. Like with Robin they deffently had a personily but they weren't the main character chrom was so it wasn't in your face as much yeah they made some important decisions whitch often did nothing but at the end of the day it lopped back to chrom and this is something corrin cant do everything has to be about corrin as there the main lord. But corrin is kind they dont want to kill common soldiers and that's never really addressed (as far as I can remember) why corrin wont kill like the sibling bit make sense but the common solider whitch could have killed there spouse is just frustrating at times and something not many people feel while playing. Corrin would have worked better if they wasn't a self insert that went against the average players emotions. But yeah I do feel people are to harsh on corrin as well though like with the whole not earning the Yaot witch is like they kind of did though it was the fact that who ever held the yaot would bring the world peace and they did it was there destiny to do so to fight in a war and mabey kill there family but even then I don't see people giving the three houses leaders shit for there wepons and they did less all they did was be born from a group of people that committed genocide! But also many people say nothing bad happens to them but at least in conquest and birthrights corrin suffers, in conquest the blood of what you think are your siblings are on your hands one forced to commit sucide and the other painful possed and then there the amount of murder they just had to watch and then birthrights watching elise die for them and xander pretty much letting corrin kill him and everything else like bruh this shit is sad and is also the reson I pray fe stops using self inserts and goes back to the older ways

Translation

Why! Why! Who thought that was a good idea Xander what did they do to him 🥺 I haven't finshed reading a direct translation of fates yet but its like so much better then the English version if you have the chance to read through it's worth it so much. Also same with three houses it wasn't as bad but like certain scenes are better like the really cringy reponse el had to dimitri on gronder feild actually makes sense and just especially if you like crimson flower as out of all the routs edelgard and cf feels like it got changed the most its just interesting ngl anyway onto fates again

I know I would hate it as I already hate the wake the slug a bug up and the "you didn't blow niles hard enough" stuff but it was also optional so like idk i don't really have an oppion

Fan service (camilla)

I like big tits (as long as there not mine lol) as much as the next person who also likes that stuff but even I'll admit It was way to much at times especially the did you miss you big sister part like I enjoy camillas character I'm a sucker for a character with a tragic backstory, loves there family, cares for others a bit to much and could bench press me but the times where she was just fan severse sucked.

I always see people being like (x) was wasted in fates i wished they were in a different game but literally 3/4 of the cast have that said about them so like do yall hate the cast or love it :/

My overall oppion

I have mixed oppions over all I do like fates conquest is one of my favourite fe and I hope mabey in twenty years it will get re made with a better translation and some adjustments to corrin and the story
