I saw this post today and thought about it (I also didn't want to rant on a post that is a year old... so... separate post)
The soul talk is from Conrad in Stampede, if I remember it right, and it is mostly basis for him to justify his eugenist views and his inhumane experimentations.
All plants are sentient and sapient. While they are individuals, they are also existing in a state of psychic linked hivemind, not quite dissimilar to Zazie the Beast (though they are one person with many bodies, while plants are many people with many bodies connected through another dimension).
Plants feel joy, hurt, fear. And humans who work with them seem to be aware of it, as seen in flashbacks in the manga. A plant engineer is shown at a last run and seen praying as the plant is killed. They know and they feel guilt.
Though, does the regular human know it? Or does the general public see them as generic producers? Kinda like people today forget that the bacon they get in the supermarket is from a once living being, a pig, that lived, breathed and oinked. And that disconnect invites greed, dehumanisation of the plants and the overusage of them. That disconnect invites waste, greed and cruelty towards plants.
A big difficulty in the coexistence between humans is -besides the dependency of humanity on plants as producers - that plants and humans cannot directly communicate. A plant cannot just say: No! She cannot decide to not produce. And that puts her in a position that is easily exploited.
Her wellbeing is in the hands of her caretakers. And the actions of those are dependent on their power (Are they independent or can someone pressure them for more food, more materials, more anything?), their education (were they taught by other plant engineers? If not, how do they avoid critical malfunctions killing more plants which worsens the pressure to produce on other plants) and environmental factors (98 put it pretty good. By destroying July without killing anyone, the people needed shelter elsewhere. The refugees put pressure on the system in place, which let to more plants dying and more humans dying as a result. No Man's Land/Gunsmoke is a system barely held in balance, if at all. Even a tiny shift in higher birthrates, a bad sandstorm, a malfunction, can topple everything.)
That's were independent plants like Knives, Vash, Tesla, Chronica and Domina come in. They are born from their sisters, who need their bulbs to live, as beings that can walk the surface and talk like the humans. Additionally to that, they need a caretaker like every baby does. That way, Independent plants are in the role of a bridge between the two species.
Independents are not only able to communicate with humans, they are also able to do the same with their sisters. Sadly… Knives and Vash SUCK at communicating. Finding the remains (are they just remains? That remains to be seen… (In Stampede)) of Tesla, traumatised the boys and their following path, while diverging radically from each other, is not one of peaceful, intertwined living.
Knives is scared as fuck that he will be murdered the same way as Tesla was. While he cares about his brother, this is mostly about himself. Knives does not listen. He does not listen to Vash and he really does not listen to his sisters. Knives does as Knives does and everyone else is in for the ride.
And by stranding humanity onto a planet without any ressources like he did, Knives also made it extremely difficult for humanity to be good. They are as desperate and as vicious as Knives is (thank you @duncanor for pointing that out). Knives put humanity into a situation that makes it easy for him to point at them and say: 'Look, they are all rabid beasts, killing and maiming each other. They need to die faster.'
Vash is grieving and feels guilty. He does listen, he smiles and then keeps on going the same way he was on before. Vash is put in a situation of having to listen to his sisters being overworked and dying, but he also sees humans desperatedly fighting for ressources and trying to live. So he does nothing to change the status quo, only barely patching one grievance to rush to the next one, while trying to find his brother. Because Vash needs everyone to live. His sisters AND humanity for which Rem died. And changing the system could destroy everything. So he focuses on patching things up and stopping his brother.
Tesla is dead, Domina and Chronica are still on Earth. I am sure the latter two would be entirely overwhelmed, too, in Vash' situation. How do you fix that massive ball of mismanagement, when humanity is barely scratching by? Yes, the Independent Plants exist, they are in a unique place to overcome the crack of communication between the species.
But how? No one gave Vash or Knives any instruction in how to do their part in this. We got from one line that the independents went through a similar uprising on earth, too. But we do not know how they overcame it to coexist.
So, NO ONE is in a position to truly fix this situation, since there are not many ressources beyond the plants and there are so many more humans just existing than the planet and plants could provide for. There… there is no answer.
THIS is no trolley problem… If you save the plants, humanity dies, but plants need humanity, too. This is a last ditch effort of two species to not die out. It is their extinction. Many dinosaurs survived the meteor and then died off in the next years, decades due to starvation, thirst or just not finding a mate.
And then there is the last important part. What do the plants want? Knives does only what Knives wants, he has no idea what his sisters want. Humans also have no idea. And Vash… doesn't dare to disturb the status quo, because he wants to keep everyone alive.
From what we can gather in Trimax and interviews, plants like humans and they like producing things. And it is one of the few positive parts of Trimax' ending, plants and humans communicate. The plants share all the good and bad memories of humans with humanity and receive help from humanity. Plants see their future with humanity interlinked. They want humanity to survive, too, together.

have u evr thoight abt livio and vash together (not romantically like in a found family way) post trimax bc i think about it a Lot
evvery day of my goddamn life . i think about them.every second of eveyr minute. LIKE ALL THE TIMEEE !! THEY ARE SOOO SPECIAL TO MEE
anyone whos been following me for a while knows i LOVEEEE imperfect , tense relationships . be them familial, romantic , platonic , etc . i love when two people have to work around each other and come to a common understanding . i like when their experiences are so wholly different that it bleeds into who they are and how they navigate the world . i like when the communication is faulty at best , messy . unpracticed . post-trimax and even post wolfwood death livio + vash consumes me @ my core . its been a while since ive read the manga so im probably very incorrect at reading their dynamics and have instead substituted it for my own fanon, but i like viewing their relationship to one another as something (initially) strained and (initially) distanced. you have these two people , effectively strangers to one another, bound by a common person who is no longer there. who ultimately understand the direction theyre headed in and whats required of them, but feeling so out of place by either their own internal struggles or by the pressure of the world around them . livio deals with the turmoil of what his and razlo’s involvement in nicholas’ death means . vash is left to bury his friend alone and spend the coming days alongside the man who’d killed him. and yet, vash, due to the nature of his cause and love for humanity, forgives him. cooks for him. and livio and razlo learn to let themselves be forgiven. to grow from past traumas and feel deserving of good things. its not an easy path for either of them, but they do it. for themselves, for each other, for meryl, millie, for chronica and her sisters, for humans ^__^! for nicholas!!! and its soo .. GOOD.. ITS SOO HEARTY TO MEE .. the way that vash and livio so openly struggle in the chapters following ch.65, but ultimately learn to come to terms with the idea of loss, of responsibility, love, community, etc. I KNOW U R TALKING ABT POST TRIMAX HELP MEE but i like how trigun so succinctly sets up this foundation for them to beee .. close in the way i’d like to imagine. i just lovee .. the bond they wld share in having both loved / cared for nicholas . and how that gave them resolvee !! how that gave them cause for action . motivation or determination if u will. they r so bound by loss and so inextricably changed by it that when i think of them post-trimax, i think of them like two wilted weeds that have grown thru the sidewalk crack , together . they are damaged , incomplete . unsure of so many tjings , but they r ……. MY GODDDDDDD !!!sry its like . man . MANN… kiryu gif of him punching the table . MAKE ME CRAZYYYYY . in a post trimax world , they are so emotionally linked . TO MEE .. IN MY LITTLE WORLD .. they mean more to each other than words can describe . and pains me in a sense to know that .. there will be a time where livio, razlo, and vash know each other more than they ever had the chance of knowing nicholas. and i think that so bittersweet . and special. I LOVEE IT . they give me very like .. silent affirmation , comfort through physical presence kind of warmth . like they dont have to say anything to know what they mean to each other and thats ok ^__^!
my favorite & i mean FAVORITEEEE PAGE!!! is the one in which they talk atop the building before their final battle and share their sorrows indirectly. LIKE THTS SOMETHIG AB THEM THAT DRIVES ME CRAZYYY!! the fact that both of them cannot refer to nicholas by name . its He. Him. That event , you know the One . they recognize parts of themselves in each other
LIKE I KEEP THIS SC ON MEEE . ALL THE TJME BC I LOVE IT SO MUCH. IVE PROBABLY POSTED IT A MILLION TIMES BY NOWW
Tumblr media
“when you are linked by something so strong in your hearts, it doesnt need to be said anymore” U R FUCKIG KIDDDING MEEEEEEEE . i lvoe thm godd . T___T

one of the main themes of trigun is the burden that Vash carries. imo, the most obvious burden is the guilt from the Great Fall, thinking that he’s partly responsible for putting humans on this desolate land and causing them to further exploit the plants.
but i’ve been thinking about Vash and the burden of hope ever since i finished the manga. for over a century, he’s carried this hope that humanity will get better. that they’ll prove Knives wrong and stop being so selfish. that they’ll stop fearing and hunting him, leaving him with scars. he’s been fighting for all these years because he remains hopeful, despite so many trying to break him. despite so many laughing in his face when they hear about his principles and what he’s fighting for.
yet for so long, he’s fought alone and he’s so used to fighting on his own. as far as we know, no one has ever decided to stick with him before the events of trigun. Luida and Brad have been supporting him from behind the scenes, but now he also has others who put their lives on the line and step into battle. he had Wolfwood, and there’s Meryl, Milly, Livio, ..
they all fight with Vash, not because they believe that he’ll fix everything or because they necessarily agree with his ideals and methods (see Wolfwood, right?), but because they see the hope for humanity that he holds and they want it to be true too...they want it to be realized. and they lessen the burden on him because now they’re carrying some of that hope themselves too.
it really hit me when i saw this panel of Livio shooting Chronica to let Vash + Knives escape, telling her to give him and us a chance. “us” as in humans.
Tumblr media
[ID: Trigun Maximum panels of Livio standing over Chronica laying on the ground after he incapacitated her, saying: “...But I can’t let ya do that. I know you’ve been through a lot, but I ask that ya give him, and us, a chance. You won’t regret it. Oh, and welcome to No Man’s Land.” End ID]
it’s always been about Vash seeing the potential in humanity and hoping that with all he does, he’ll be able help them reach that potential.
and at the end of trimax, i hope that with many more humans believing in, and hoping for, a brighter future...that burden feels even less for Vash.

A continuation of my awesome Plants theory.
Part 1 is here
In the manga, it's constantly stated that the Plants are created by humans. But humans know very little about the Plants. That sounds suspicious. We know from the manga that a lot of aspects about the Plants are kept secret (such as the blackening of their hair or the fact that they have consciousness), so why are we so sure that what is being said about the origin of the Plants is true? I have a feeling the general public was told that the Plants were created by humans simply to bypass ethical restrictions.
My theory that it actually went something like this: there was a certain patient zero, a woman who came into contact with something from another planet or another dimension, and after that her body and consciousness began to transform and eventually she became a proto-Plant. (Why do I think there was a woman? Because dependent Plants look like human women for no good reason. The manga isn't particularly fanservicey, so the standard "because boobs" explanation doesn't fit.) She started producing "offsprings", the usual dependent Plants. Considering how many of them there are, it is likely that she has become a huge "hive queen", continuously laying eggs, spheres, which are then placed inside the "bulbs".
In fact, they are not separate beings at all, but parts of the "queen" and share the same consciousness with her.
Tumblr media
According to the Chronica, the Dependent Plants "are fundamentally one large collective consciousness. It is incredibly vast, but this "species" shares consciousness at a deep level, initially having no concept of individuality, so apparently "fusion" occurs without fatal collisions."
This explains why Conrad, who had the equipment with which he was able to restore Knives' body, simply didn't make clones of dependent Plants. Cloned Plants that are not part of the queen will simply not work.
Now I'll get to the question of why the Plants, or more specifically the proto-Plant, the queen, needed humans.
We know that humans are dependent on the Plants, and the Plants can simply refuse to work (like when the soldiers tried to shoot at the ark), so the fact that they continue to "serve" humans indicates that there is a benefit to them in doing so.
As I wrote in the first post, I think the Plants cause humans to mutate, gradually turning them into members of their own species. I think this is their way of reproducing, or rather spreading their species to new territories. Different individuals of their species have different specializations. The dependents specialize in spreading their genetic information through food, water and radiation. The specialization of the independents is to control the main population. This is why the independents are so dangerous to "humans" but still resemble them and are able to communicate with them.
Legato and Elendira are perfect hybrids and likely the model for what all of humanity should eventually become: a strong harmonious human body plus Plant's abilities. That's why these two are so close to Knives. Even though he, like the other independents, is not connected to a shared consciousness and knows only what Rem and Conrad have told him, he still feels that Legato and Elendira are closer to his people.
Now a bit about the Plants' conflict with the people of No Man's Land.
We know that the Plants were not happy with the way they were being treated, although they did not wish for the complete genocide of the planet's population. On this page we can see exactly what they didn't like.
Tumblr media
We see how friendly Plant is to the human worker in the first frame, but then it shows what the Plants don't like: people taking too much biomass, people throwing expensive parties for the upper class (and this on a planet where the majority of the population lives in starvation!), people making products to sell for money, even though it's important to the Plants that resources are distributed as evenly as possible. And on top of that, the Plants are dying as a result of these actions, and given that they share a single consciousness, it's not only their shared pain, it's also the death of a piece of their shared identity.

Trimax Vol 12 Ch 1-4
This volume is extra long so figuring out how to divide this up is tricky. Hopefully, this post isn't too long because I have many, many thoughts about the showdown between Knives and Vash.
Ch 1
Chronica and Domina and honestly the entire Earth fleet present some really fascinating questions about Plants and how things work on Earth. I mean, the implications of something like this having happened before, and being so destructive and unpredictable that Chronica tells Domina not to rely on the data from previous encounters.
Also, the language they use around the data. “We already share all our data.” It’s a very sciencey way of referring to what is basically telepathy, I think. We haven’t had language for how any of this works before and that’s part of where the terror and uncertainty comes from. When Vash accidentally went all rogue angel and anyone touching him got a front row seat to his memories, that was probably “sharing data.” But that kind of clinical description sure as hell wasn’t what it felt like for anyone involved. Then, it felt more akin to the supernatural, to cosmic horror, because it was so unknown and out there. But for these Independents, it’s just sharing data, it’s just what they are and how they work. There’s a split between the level of mysticism that Plants have acquired on No Man’s Land (due to the lack of resources and how heavily they rely on them) and the more (seemingly) scientifically oriented Earth fleet.
This entire sequence where Vash looks back at his past, everyone he’s helped and fought for, all the enemies he’s faced, is so gorgeous and hard-hitting. He’s steeling himself for the final battle and reminding himself what matters, what he’s fighting for. It’s so telling that the last images are of Rem and Wolfwood. But it’s also telling that we don’t see Wolfwood’s face. Is it because the grief is too fresh? Is it because Vash feels guilty? I’m not sure. But the juxtaposition of a solitary cross among a sea of faces is hard to beat. It’s a punch in the gut.
And another thing! Razlo and Livio are included when he considers the Gung Ho Guns even though he never fought them directly. But Vash doesn’t place Wolfwood there though he also was very much so one of them. He doesn’t see him as one, Wolfwood has become so much more to him and he’s refusing to acknowledge some of Wolfwood’s last words, that all he is is a monster.
There’s something about this page that reads to me like a prayer. Vash’s pose, his lowered head, his hand and gun centered, it’s his own form of prayer. To who or what, I can’t say. He’s not asking for anything except strength to reach the end, to protect those tough and tender days he loved so much.
Tumblr media
It hurts me that he doesn’t expect to make it to the end. Tellingly, his hair is almost entirely black here. He’s used up most of his life force. In some ways, I imagine he’s performing some kind of final ritual for himself. He’s reminding himself what he’s fighting for because the person that gave him hope again when he thought all was lost is gone.
Is the Earth fleet planning on dropping a nuclear bomb on Knives to stop him? Because that’s really what it sounds like. I get that he’s dangerous, but wasn’t the whole point of coming here to help the people on this planet, not kill them? Seems like the Earth fleet aren’t quite the good guys we were hoping they would be.
But then Knives just disappears! That’s not terrifying at all or anything.
Ch 2
Knives just teleported, a power apparently completely unknown for even fused Independents to have. That’s wild. But also not. He’s probably fused to more Plants than other Independent has before, to the point that his own body is losing shape and he seems to be becoming one of them. It’s weird to say that he’s becoming less human, since he’s always been so focused on not being human, but at least in form he was. Not anymore, and it’s signaling a dangerous change in his power levels.
Domina experiences a Knives jumpscare, which doesn’t bode well for her. It’s never a good thing when Knives suddenly appears in your mind.
Panic and fear for your life can make people do insane things, but truly shooting guns into the air at a massive airship that is far above the city is such an incredibly useless and stupid thing to do.
Knives did say he had enough power to reach past the boundaries of the planet. But man, that’s horrifying. He took complete control of another Independent. He fused with her like he was originally thinking of doing with Vash. He spoke in her voice and everything, even convinced Chronica that it was Domina for a moment. That’s…really scary. Can you imagine if he had done that to Vash?
Knives straight up doesn’t have anything resembling a body anymore. He’s getting into biblically accurate territory here. The body horror is real.
Also, I’m not surprised that he calls Chronica and Domina slaves of humans. He’s always looked down at Vash for helping them and living among them. Of course he’d say even worse things for the ones actively working with humans in their military. Though I’m still curious how much actual choice Chronica or Domina had in taking this assignment and becoming part of this crew.
Tumblr media
Ch 3
Sometimes I forget Trigun is actually scifi. But now we have a spaceship battle! Though I’d actually argue Trigun is sci-fantasy but that’s another discussion entirely.
I’m still not over the fact that Knives fused with another Independent and is using her like a puppet. Like, that’s a terrifying capability for Independent Plants to have. Imagine what else he could do like that. Imagine if he had Vash’s power behind him. Imagine if Vash had decided to do something like that. Truly, I can’t put into words how horrifying that is. I’m not surprised anymore that humans would find a way to alter Independents so they can’t do that.
Shooting straight into the air when there’s nothing to hit up there really isn’t a smart move. But people are scared and aren’t known for thinking straight in those circumstances.
I have to agree with Luida here. I don’t like how quiet the military is considering how adamant they were about fighting back earlier. That doesn’t bode well at all.
Vash fired his angel bullets at Knives! They kinda look like a black hole in the form of a bullet.
Tumblr media
His power and accuracy remain unmatched. He’s way too far away from Knives for his gun on its own to have the power to reach him. That means he’s using his Plant powers to gain more speed and distance.
It also looks like he severed the threads connecting Knives to Domina. Or disrupted them? It’s hard to tell, but either way, he’s showing his hand and letting Knives know he’s here, and he’s not going to let him get away with his plan.
Ch 4
It strikes me that we’ve never seen Vash openly use his powers like this before. He might move inhumanly fast and dodge attacks that would kill most people but he hasn’t actively created gates and used them against people. His powers don’t work with his version of pacifism. Add to that his fear of them and what they’re capable of, and it’s no wonder he never used them.
Things have changed now. He’s throwing that aside now. He’s not on the defensive anymore. He’s not scared of himself either. He’s got nothing left to lose and he’s going to throw everything he has at Knives because he has to protect humanity (and everything Wolfwood fought to protect).
But also, his face here. It’s empty, slightly unhinged. He chooses this moment to put his glasses on. Is he hiding? Putting up a shield? Or is he actively turning himself into diablo, the angry avenger he keeps inside himself? Either way, there’s just something cold and entirely unlike the Vash we know in these panels. Including the very antagonistic way he’s talking to Knives, which is also quite a change. He’s done trying to reason with him. He’s finally realized there’s nothing he can say that will stop him. All they can do is fight until there’s only one man left standing.
Tumblr media
Knives has also decided he’s done with Vash. If he’s so willing to attack him, Knives is done trying to protect him. But even as he says that, Knives covers his face. Like he can’t stand to see his brother’s death. He knows he has to do this for his mission to succeed, but deep down, he hates it. Now I’m wondering if that’s why Vash put his glasses on too. To give himself that barrier between himself and the death of his brother. Because I maintain that no matter how much Vash said he was out to kill him for revenge, until this moment, his actions said that he didn’t truly mean it.
“I’m disappointed. I don’t even want to see your corpse.” Knives, that’s—that’s a lot. He wants to destroy Vash so utterly, there’s nothing left of him. But he’s lying to himself again, because I don’t think it’s about how Vash still fights like a human, so he’s disgusting and beneath Knives and deserves a destructive death. It’s about not wanting to see the dead body of the brother he would’ve done literally anything to protect.
Vash’s hair is getting blacker and blacker by the page and it’s hurting me deeply. He doesn’t care about surviving at all. There’s just Knives and him.
Interestingly, when Knives realizes that Vash has fashioned his powers into bullets, he becomes complimentary again. He’s basically thinking, “Well, at least you finally put your powers to good use.”
But Vash says no. He’s accepted who and what he is, he’s accepted his power, but at the end of the day, he’s still just a gunman. He’s a simple man fighting to protect what he loves. He is not “other” like Knives. He’s part of this world and he’s fighting to protect it. Vash reaffirms his beliefs and who he is before Knives and that’s really, really powerful.

When I said I wasn't ready for this to end on my last post I didn't intend to then not post until the weekend, but somehow using TriMax to try and soothe my JJK feels didn't seem like a good idea, so here we are.
Stream-of-consciousness thoughts for TriMax Vol. 14, Chapters 4-6 below.
Chapter 4: Never Give Up! Never Surrender!
CW: Blood (in color)
This honestly seems like an odd title given how suicidal our main character is, but let's run with it. Maybe it's referring more to the Earth Fleet.
Vash, asking important questions.
Tumblr media
WTF, why is dead Legato just standing there screaming? Like, yes, I get that him standing around screaming in an unsettling fashion is totally in character for him, but... he's dead, yeah? Or... is it Vash screaming? I mean, I feel like screaming is generally the appropriate response to Legato showing up.
Tumblr media
What the...? Surprise Wolfwood. He looks in pretty good spirits for a dead man.
Dang, that's a lot of ghosts.
OMG it's REM.
Wait, is he dying? Like, I know he's dying, but is he dying dying??
Oh, he hit a wall between him and them. He must not be quite gone yet. But gods, his hair looks fully black here.
Oh, wait. It has just a bit of lightness in it still.
Vashie looks sooooo tired.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, humanity is trying its very, very best to communicate with the Plants Knives has absorbed.
Ooh, looks like the Plants are forming Opinions.
That's a big boom.
Oooh, critical failure for Earth Fleet.
The good news is Knives and/or the Plants he's merged with just saved all of Humanity on Noman's Land. The bad news is everyone still has to deal with Knives.
Hahahahaha, this kind of spirit is the soul of Trigun. Thanks, girls.
Tumblr media
You're right, Meryl. It's absolutely too heavy a burden for him to carry alone. I hope he knows you feel that way. And not just you, but so many others, too. I hope he's at a place where he can accept that.
Wait, what cracked Meryl's helmet?
Eyyy, Vash is conscious again!
Chapter 5: Ticket to the Future
Where's he stuck? Limbo?
Ahhhhh! He heard Meryl's words!
Tumblr media
Oop, feather to the face for Vash, too.
I like how he calls himself Vash the Stampede in his head. Not Vash. Vash the Stampede. You have to say the whole thing.
I still don't know what the hell he caught, if anything.
Dang, Knives isn't even gonna bother slaughtering the humans. He's just gonna leave them to rot.
What is that noise, Knives? Is it maybe your sisters? Are they now making their noise un-ignorable?
Were you really united? Did you ever actually check with them? Or did you just assimilate and assume that because the assimilation took, they were in agreeance?
It's not just Vash at this point, though, is it?
Tumblr media
Wait, is Vash gonna plug into Knives? Ohhhh, he does not look enthusiastic about this move.
Sooooo much giant Plant underboob.
Oh, Vash is going to plug himself into the connection they've set up to try and talk with the Plants. That's hella dangerous. Has he ever been plugged into anything before? What if he can't maintain his sense of self in there? Though I guess Chronica could when she plugged into Domina... but that was only a fraction of the entity Vash is gonna jump into, and the entity he's gonna jump into includes Knives.
Hahahaha, I feel like Knives telling Vash not to touch him is exactly the fuel Vash needs. Big sibling energy here.
Tumblr media
This looks distinctly unpleasant for the both of them.
Everyone's screaming for ice cream here.
Eyyyy, the giant fused entity is dissolving! Presumably into feathers.
Yyyup. Feathers. Weird-shaped feathers.
Wait, is Vash falling?
More screaming, but this time in Japanese.
Tumblr media
LOL, it's not tenacity but recklessness. Fair. This is Vash we're talking about.
I feel like I keep saying this, but Knives doesn't look so good.
I keep saying that about Vash, too, but it continues to be true.
All these freaking feathers. I'm STILL blaming CLAMP for this.
Chapter 6: Mind Games
Memories for everyone!
Yeah, Meryl's allowed to panic a bit when she gets inundated with foreign memories again.
But look at her, doing her best to stay focused. She knows Vash is at his limit and she's doing her best to support him.
UGH, HE CAN FEEL HER EMOTIONS!!! HE CAN FEEL THEM!!!! That there's a rare genuine Vash smile. He may not know if it's gonna work, but he's so grateful for her effort and support. He's glad she's here for him right now.
Tumblr media
This is a Thing. Everything dissolves when communication ends. When there's no more room for it, whatever the reason may be.
Tumblr media
Heh, they call Vash "Red Brother." I approve. I think he'd like that.
Love and Peace, yo.
They're leaving Knives.
I bet in Stampede, if they get this far, everything will dissolve into flowers. That is NOT LESS CLAMP-LIKE.
Ooof, there's just a mess of bulb-less plants lying everywhere now. That seems dangerous for them.
This guy doing what he can to communicate via a feather. I approve.
This scene. I love this scene. I love the tenderness of his touch on the one Plant's head. I love how he changes his words from a statement of fact, a demand and a command, to a desperate request. I love her smiling peacefully through her tears.
Tumblr media
Vash is up and on his feet!
WHAT IS THIS?!?! WHAT IS THIS PROMISE THAT HE'S NEVER MADE BEFORE?!?! WHAT IS THIS WILL TO LIVE AND TO COME BACK AND TO SPEND TIME WITH SOMEONE HE CARES ABOUT INSTEAD OF RUNNING AND RUNNING AND HIDING AND ISOLATING??!?! WHAT. IS. THIS?!!?!?!?
Tumblr media
After watching Stampede, I read somewhere that someone was saying how those who were familiar with the series were gonna have fun explaining to Stampede-onlies how Knives getting destroyed in July is just him being dramatic. Looking at him missing HUGE CHUNKS of his body and yet still somehow maintaining his basic shape, I can't help but think he's being dramatic again.
"My head's killing me." You don't say? Maybe it's because HALF OF IT IS MISSING?? What a freaking dork.
I... honestly don't know if what Vash is aiming for here is something that can be defined as "freedom."

Trigun Bookclub Trimax Vol12 Part1
Vol01: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3  | Vol02: Part 1 | Part 2
Trimax: Vol01 Part 1Vol01 Part 2 | Vol02 Part 1Vol02 Part 2 | Vol 03 Part 1 | Vol03 Part2 | Vol04 Part1 | Vol04 Part2 | Vol05 | Vol06 | Vol07 | Vol08 Part1 | Vol08 Part2 | Vol09 Part1 | Vol09 Part2 | Vol10 Part1 | Vol10 Part2 | Vol10 Part3 | Vol10 Part4 | Vol11 Part 1 | Vol11 Part2 | Vol12 Part1
Let's get to the start of vol12! Trigger warnings for suicide mention/ideas within the analysis. Chapters 1-3 of vol12. Geez, 9 chapters? That's gonna take 3 parts again.
Oddly enough, the later the volume the less I know what to say (though this might be a misconception, I don't think my posts are getting shorter), or hmm it's more like...the later the volume, especially now past 10...I feel like...there's so much I want to express, the pages and chapters are feeling so full of ideas, ideals, hopes, and stuff to analyze that it's hard to know where to start? EDIT from later: yeah that's a misconception I'm already starting to ramble not too far down. I think that when I just looked at the first images of Vash standing there, it felt like the end of a journey to me as the reader as well...this manga is giving me emotions I cannot quite trace.
Chapter 1:
Tumblr media
On my first two reads I kinda rushed these parts with Chronica and Domina (to quickly get back to Vash) but it's good taking my time reading this again, because there's so much cool valuable information here! They have already encountered similiar cases of Independants running amok, or fusing, as it seems, although this might be the worst case. How is life living as an independant on earth? How are the plants treated, any differently maybe? And are they seen more as living beings? There's so many questions and stuff for speculation here. Had Knives and Vash been born on earth, who knows, they might have just lived their lives normally under humans (though probably working in some way for the facilities or smth).
Tumblr media
His hair looks almost all black now...this is one of my fav Vash pages (there are a lot, but it's pretty high). When you look at him like that and you have lived with him through these last volumes and seen what he had to endure...my heart is full of love and my body full of pain for him.
Tumblr media
First, he thinks back to the damage they have caused the humans. Not voluntarily, but the desasters happened. It's darkening his expression for a short moment here.
Tumblr media
But then...he thinks back to all the people who, after his long and arduous journey, welcomed him in their midst. Their have been bad encounters as well as good ones, but he lived among them.
Tumblr media
I'm a sucker for wrap ups like this. And, again, Vash is in this chapter the perfect example to show how Trigun doesn't need lots of text to convey the message and the emotions. These pages are so silent but you could hear their laughter and voices in Vash's head if you listened.
Tumblr media
(I'm just spamming the whole chapter in this post but I want to have this as reference when I come back to my reviews to look smth up)
Tumblr media
You probably read the post by @annaofaza about Vash picturing Wolfwood's grave and not his face, cause it's too painful, and there are no tomorrows anymore...and there was this other post by @anxiety-elemental-kay how Vash is just speeding up his death voluntarily after Wolfwood's death. Yeah, those posts have ruined me now, thank you. For some reason I didn't read it this way the first two times, but, I also didn't think so much about Vash's inner thoughts. Now? Now every face of Vash showing his resolution, every instance where he gets up again, it's so much more devastating. Cause these pages are a flashback to all the memories he made...and they're also a goodbye. That panel here where he opens his eye again...oh it looks so empty and old.
Tumblr media
Isn't that such a beautiful sentence, though?
I want to write about it but there's nothing that I could add to that.
Tumblr media
Oh Knives, my dear (genocidal) boy. There's almost nothing left of your anymore...
Chapter 2:
Tumblr media
This explosion here reads a bit like electric impulses spreading out from the impact side. They said it's an anti-plant cannon so I imagine it's a tiny bit different than normal lasers, so that would make sense!
Tumblr media
Aaah Knives sccary jumpscare. If this were to be animated this could be SO damn creepy and cool.
Tumblr media
They are running over military! Stampedes in training!
Tumblr media
Of course the humans start shooting at the arc once it's appeared above them. For real though, it really is understandable? After the 7 months of terror, and considering that they probably don't even know that Plants are alive...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's no longer a really single "Knives" out there, so I like to imagine this is all the plants, this fused being, talking here. Or, especially the first lines sound like they could be coming more from the plants, and then the last sentence that is directed, that could be the Knives-consciousness talking.
Tumblr media
Angel Horror Trigun! It's so...uaaaah but sooo cool looking.
Tumblr media
Epic Knives panel! Is he talking to Domina and Chronica? Could be the only ones he means by "slaves of humans"
Chapter 3:
Tumblr media
This is so sad, cause it looks like the humans play the role of making plants kill each other :(
Tumblr media
On the other hand we're still getting funny little moments like these here, hehe.
Tumblr media
Also Luida being desceptive! I love her!
Tumblr media
Va va va va Vash to the rescue! *waving my pompoms and doing a little dance for him in the distance*
Continuation in the next post!

For the Ask Game: 3, 5, 13, 15, 17, 18, 19, 21, 25, 27.
hi nonnie !! ty !! omg so many !!
writer asks
3. What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?
Recently? Probably "apostate baptisms." It's the most visceral and inspired of all my Trigun fics published so far just because it's got my favorite lines in it :) it made me feel many things to write it.
5. What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write?
Man I think sometimes about writing a full "no Big Fall" AU for the twins where they're raised as Earth Federation soldiers and grow up as Chronica and Domina's seniors but that's waaaaay too much work. Maybe someday I'll do a oneshot.
13. How much planning do you do before writing?
If it's for a zine or it's a longfic that I'm obligated to finish? I outline and brainstorm. Anything else gets vomited straight into the doc. Organically!
15. How do you come up with titles for your fics/chapters?
Prophesy, typically. Visions. References to idioms that come together in my brain in dreams. When that fails I google Bible quotes to reference or I end up referencing some of my favorite poetry :)
17. What’s something you’ve learned about while doing research for a fic?
OH MY GOD yeah okay so I have learned sooo much about firearms just because Trigun is. Tri-gun. And Trigun cares a lot about firearm accuracy and how guns work and gun models that I also end up trying to recreate that accuracy, which means I hit up my partner for his infodumps. Did you know that sometimes a magazine can double feed so the gun tries to shoot two bullets and they kinda get jammed between the mag and the chamber? Because I didn't.
18. What’s one of your favorite lines you’ve written in a fic?
Vash feels his face scrunch up, like he’s about to cry—and he doesn’t want to cry, because he’s done enough crying, but he can’t help it. Big tears well up at the corner of his eyes and drip down his face. The slow slide of them over his cheeks tickles in an obscene way. “Because,” he says. “You always make me into the worst version of myself, the kind of person I can’t stand. You make me into someone unrecognizable.” “I recognize you,” Knives whispers. And strong arms come around Vash, wet and shaking, still, but strong. They tug him closer until his face is buried in the crook of his brother’s neck. “Vash.” “Because this is the version of me you always see,” says Vash, trying not to sob. “You make me cruel, Knives. You make me cruel and desperate, and you make me do things I’d never even think of otherwise.”
19. Give us a small teaser from one of your WIPs.
They’re lying awake one night when Vash opens his eyes and says “Hey, Knives. Whadaya hate the most?” The two of them are eye socket to cheekbone, armpit to shoulder. It’s one of those nights where Knives buries himself under the covers and into Vash’s arms, when the two of them nestle as closely together as they can without crawling into each other’s skin. Vash feels Knives laugh. “What a stupid question, brother.”
21. Have you ever deleted an entire scene after spending hours laboring over it? If so, why?
Oh, man, not since my genshin days. My fics tend to be singular scenes recently so if I'm throwing out a scene I'm probably throwing out the fic into my "cannibalize for another fic later" pile.
25. Have you ever upset yourself with your own writing?
Yeah, actually, which is a recent phenomenon. I like to romanticize fetishize sexualize Knives a lot but whenever I decide I want to play him as, like, a straight up abuser like he is in canon? It sometimes makes me uncomfortable because I'm drawing on some nasty irl experiences to make him sound realistic. This happened in "my brother, the myrrh eater" and in an upcoming unpublished chapter of "california dreamin'." I don't necessarily get upset but I do have to take breaks.
27. Is there a fic you were nervous to post/share? Why?
Answered here! Never :)

Unfollowing ppl complaining about ‘pede as self-care.
Is it better than the ‘98 anime? Production-wise yes, Tri had its own charm but it was also a 90’s anime and has the errors and cost-cutting to show for it. It’s also completely divergent from the manga bc it was still serialized as episodes were coming out— it’s basically apples and oranges to compare (haha).
Do I think it’s better than the manga? Not really. Again, the stories are diverging— Stamp is borrowing more from Maximum proper and has the full context to mold as it sees fit. Yeah the pacing is breakneck compared to the manga but idk I think it’s fun, it’s different. I was getting a little hesitant during ep 6 as many others were but by the end I was into it. A chaotic situation where two lives are in the balance? And *Wolfwood* is the one who has to make the tough choices of stubbornly keeping them both alive? That’s interesting! I wanna see how that goes! Make him even more of a parallel to Vash, why not? It’s also not even halfway through the season yet and I still have no fucking idea if it’s one cour or two so who knows how it’ll all shake out. I’ll reserve my final judgements for when the full thing’s out and done, but it’s not replacing or detracting from Max in any stretch.
Do I think the manga had its own pacing issues? Hell yeah. Backstories get rewritten and details tweaked as it goes on, the EOM was a very late addition that didn’t get much time to be expanded on, nor it’s connections to other characters beyond direct A—B influence. The fight with Legato in general felt simultaneously drawn out and too short. I’d like to know a bit more about Domina and Chronica, kinda a big deal to know there are even more independents and not really considered as a new perspective to the conflict between the twins. The ending is incomplete on an emotional level. Why did we not get Vash’s reaction to the tree?? Nightow could have gutted me harder with an apple than he did with confetti and I can only presume he didn’t have the pages left to do so. But I still love it. It’s one of my favorites now, I shed tears and laughed and connected to it and a lot of cool people through reading it last year. It made me remember how much I love writing. I’d never not recommend it to someone just because *I* didn’t gel with the ending after sitting with it for a bit. Sum greater than the parts and all that.
To continue the first analogy: Stamp and Max are more like an orange and a tart. Both contain the essence of something but convey it and interact with you in very different ways— as is the nature of differing mediums. An adaptation will never be 1:1 with the source material because there’s specific things you can only do or convey through each one and tweaks must be made. How the gutters are placed and arranged on a comic page cannot be perfectly translated to a camera pan. I’ve wiped my hands of expecting “perfect” adaptations anymore, I just want the new thing to recapture and expand on the essence of what I liked about the original.
Stampede is fine so far. I like the music. I like the animation. I like the extra bits of character interaction and flavor we didn’t get from the other two. It feels *enough* like Trigun, and that’s good enough for me.
But this is all just my subjective taste. If stamp doesn’t gel for you, it doesn’t gel. I’m just jaded from a very loud minority that shit all over it the moment the trailers dropped bc it wasn’t the ‘98 Nostalgia Goggles version of Trigun they remembered half-watching on tv a decade ago and poisoning the well. There are valid things to critique, I personally just want to crawl back up into my hermit shell with the episodes playing on loop and daydreaming about having that new statue.
There’s three flavors of Trigun to choose from now. Pick the ones you like and have fun.

trigun reactions. End of maximum. Spoilers
People talk about Wolfwood being doomed by the narrative and I disagree, the one doomed by the narrative is Vash. Vash is the one with all the foreshadowing that he's dying. His hair is almost all black, his health and condition are worsening, multiple characters have commented on how he's dying.
90: haunted by nico chan. Wolfwood is shown to be on vash's mind twice once when he decides to attack legato and again when he kills him. Like legato says its notable that now is when vash decides to break his life long 100+ year vow not to kill.
91: the day will come when you have to choose that line's been repeated at least 3 times too bad i cant remember where. Its not just wolfwoods philosophy, vash wanted to protect his legacy or maybe just the reminder that wolfwood once lived.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
92: wasnt there a whole thing about how plants can't survive outside of those glass bulbs. Given how many chapters are left i dont think vash and knives are going to fight which is very very interesting narratively and on a meta level. I say that because most of the other fights have taken 5-10 chapters to cover like legato or livio.
93: uh nuclear fallout doesnt work like that. Any blast no matter if it hit knives of the fleet would be spreading radioactive particles. It might not be a direct hit. But thats 2 nuclear detonations. Yall are going to die of radiation poisoning.
94: ticket... what did that represent again... freedom to choose your destination? So the translations all say different things. Vash prays that the plants can choose the end of this confront tation/their future/what side to take. But is the ticket for himself or for them?
95: Also yeah there is no big epic final battle vash appeals to the plants, to bridge the gap between plants and humanity and communicate. As the feather memories drift down plants and humans find a common point in knowing vash. And the plants choose vash's philosophy of live and peace and abandon knives. Hmm so the cable vash stuck to his neck acts as plant life support. Vash has never made a promise to return until now.
Tumblr media
96: contrast of vash who's more scars than skin and knives who is regenerating half his body. From knives perspective he's not wrong he really was abandoned by everyone: humanity, rem, vash, and the plants he convinced to his cause. Vash says there's no more reason to fight but knives will not waver.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh ho does knives feel a smidge of guilt for breaking their bond first as vash's gun finds his head. Ok im a bit confused did vash just kill chronica? Hmm but the framing isnt right and why would there be an explosion is he black holed it. Oh nvm she's still shooting at them. Vash uses the last of his lifespan to fly them out but he's too weak so knives makes the other wing. Great imagery.
Tumblr media
97: the more things change the more thing stay the same man vash just cant stay in the laws good books huh. DID KNIVES TURN INTO A TREE??? Ok ok the most likely reading is that as knives said he was dying and out of power so he used the last of his life to make a miracle that would help humans. HOWEVER i rather like the idea that he ditched vash (because of complicated emotions and history) and is now wandering the world powerless and essentially human. Also isnt vash suppose to die soon the whole black hair thing he was on the point of collapse during the legato(?) fight blood everywhere, bleeding from his eyes falling apart, if vash survives it is technically, technically possible knives did too.

I know that Slavic paganism was not consistent and there’s a lot we don’t know. However I was wondering about different spring gods. I’ve seen a few names thrown around. Vesna, Lada, Jarilo. I’ve read some about Jarilo already ( great post btw) but I’m wondering where Vesna and Lada fit into Slavic belief if at all?Thank you for your time ! P.S: are there any Russian specific deities? I was born in Russia and am trying to connect with my roots spiritually
I would like to start by disclaiming that this is a very complex question and as usual with Slavic paganism there is no easy answer. I’m sorry if the explanations provided below will not feel satisfactory.
First about Vesna: I couldn’t find any mentions of her in “Sources of Slavic Pre-Christian Religion” by J. A. Álvarez-Pedrosa, which is a collection of all known sources mentioning pre-Christian Slavic religion that are contemporary to it’s practice. Polish authors also stay silent about her. It seems to me like she doesn’t appear in many (perhpas any, I couldn’t say with certainty) sources even secondary ones and rituals connected ot her are not practiced in Poland. From what I heared about her the name Vesna appears in folk customs related to spring, practiced predominantly in Southern Slavic states but occasionally found in other coutnries too. However „vesna” and similar forms of this word also simply mean „spring” in many Slavic languages so I couldn’t say with any degree of confidence whether we are dealing with a deity or merely a personification of spring associated with particular folk holidays (the two aren’t always the same thing). I believe asking someone from a Southern Slavic country or a person specializing in practices of this region might yield more adequate reply.
Now onto Lada/Lado and here really starts my headache. The short answer is that we don’t know what’s up with them and opinions are strongly divided.
The long answer follows. The first mention of Lado that we have comes from “Gniezno Sermons”, written by Łukasz of Wielki Koźmin around 1405-1412. He believes Lada to be one of the idols still worshipped by common people during certain “indecent” folk festivities, he lists a couple of other names too, but not ones we know from earlier, pre-Christian sources. I believe few years later the same string of names is repeated in few other publications, untill finally Jan Długosz elaborates on it in his description of pagan Polish pantheon which I have spoken about in this post.
In “Annales seu Cronicae incliti Regni Poloniae” (1455) Długosz claims that Lada is local name for Roman god Mars, so very much a male deity. However in his writings on Polish heraldry “Insignia seu clenodia Regis et Regni Poloniae” (1464-1480) he states that Lada is a goddess which was worshipped in the region of Masovia. The writings of Długosz are repeated many times by later authors with small adjustments. In 1519 “Chronica Polonorum” Maciej Miechowita equates Lada with roman Leda, making the deity female. In mid 16th century Marcin Kromer names Lado as male but connects him with the traditional matchmaking and wedding songs. Around the same time Maciej Stryjkowski mentions goddess „Leda” mother of divine twins Lel and Polel which according to him are equivalent with Castor and Pollux. In 1578 Alessandro Guagnini, Veronese adventurer who emigrated to Poland publishes “Sarmatiae Europeae Descriptio” in which he plagiarizes large parts of Stryjkowski’s work. While he includes mentions of the worship of „Lada, Lel and Polel” he equates Lada with Pluto. This particular publication becomes quite popular in the West.
XVIIth century Ukrainian “Hustyn Chronicle” describes Lado as god of marital success and merriment and connects him with Hymen, Jove and Bacchus. Modern scholars highlight that while the Chronicle contains some older texts as well, the accounts about Lado were most likely inspired by the XVth century Polish writers, Kromer in particular. The second known eastern source, Gizel’s “Synopsis” is modeled after writings of Stryjkowski and names Lada as mother of Lel and Polel.
As for modern researchers, most Polish ones whose works I’ve read are very sceptical of Lada/Lado (Bruckner, Gieysztor, Słupecki, Strzelczyk, Urbańczyk). They consider Lada/Lado to be either a term of endearment meaning „beloved/ wife/ husband” or simply a linguistic misunderstanding of traditional Slavic wedding songs characterized by ululating, nonsensical refrains (Christian writers misconstruing folk tradition as invocation of pagan gods).
Kalik and Uchitel, authors of „Slavic gods and heroes” also strongly oppose historicity of Lada, following the wedding song theory. However it’s worth noting they are hyper-critical in their approach to all supposed Slavic deities, believing them to be artificial inserts rather than genuine divinities of pre-Christian Slavic origin.
The most ardent defenders of Lada as goddess of love/marriage seem to be Aleksander Faminstyn and Boris Rybakov. Croatian scholar Natko Nodilo connected Lada with the sun and the tradition of lazarice.
In “Russian Folk Belief” Ivanits refrains from making definite judgment on the case of Lada and merely points out that Lada remains „most mysterious”, citing Rybakov’s deep belief in her historicity and Kagarov’s total disbelief.
Our dear Upyrica recently shared with us a translated piece from the works of Mykola Kostomarov in which the author equates Lado with Yarilo. You can find the fragment here.
As you can see the issue is a complex one and as of now Lada lacks a clearly defined place in Slavic beliefs. If you wish to learn more on your own I believe you can find some more relevant names in this article - although it focuses on the role of Lada in Lithuanian culture it mentions quite a few Slavic sources as well. Unfortunately the article is in Russian, so if, like me, you are unfamiliar with the language you’ll have to google translate your way through it.
If you wish to get more information about the XV-XVI century sources I cited earlier (and many more) you should definitely check out “The gods of the Ancient Slavs”, available freely here.
I would say Jarilo and various related characters are best attested among the trio that you named. It’s quite possible that some form of Jarilo was honored by all three main groups of Slavs, although perhaps not by all tribes and certainly not in exactly the same way.
As for your question about Russian deities: if you are looking for gods and goddesses that are only found on the territory of present-day Russia and nowehere else I don’t know of any (which doesn’t mean they never existed of course). There are some names that appear in Eastern sources but are of doubtful historical authenticity. I’d say your best bet is turning to what we understand as „Eastern Slavic” deities such as Dazhbog, Khors, Mokosh, Stribog, Simargl, perhaps also Svarog (Perun and Veles are believed to have been worshipped among many groups of Slavs even though they are only named as such in Eastern Slavic primary sources). “The gods of Ancient Slavs” linked earlier in the post will provide you with quotes from primary and secondary sources useful for further research.

Hi I really liked your Kung Lao timeline headcanons, would I be able to request those same types of headcanons with Liu Kang.
ThankyouthankyouTHANKYOU for giving me this request!! It was super fun writing the Kung lao headcannons, and I didn't even think about writing them for Liu Kang! I hope you enjoy!
No tw for this one
Liu Kang timeline headcannons.
Liu Kang was used to being infatuated with the strong men and women around him. But you? You were something different.
You were kind to him and all others, regardless of where they stood on the spectrum of good and evil. You were wise and beautiful and everything a man or woman could want.
And you were in love with him. It was so easy to see. Easy for anyone to see.
At first he had written you off. He had been so incredibly swept off his feet by kitana, he had almost forgotten you. At least, he did for a bit.
When he finally realized he had feelings for you, you had already distanced yourself from him. Content with Kitana having him, because at least he would be happy.
And he missed you. So very much. But he still had feelings for Kitana. He was conflicted, and he came forward to you about it.
You gave honest, unbiased advice for him to think on. You told him that it was okay. That it was easy to get swept up in emotions during this tournament. It was fine for him to love many, as long as he didn't pursue those feelings all at the same time.
You never pushed him to pursue you, or become angry at his feelings for Kitana. You only wanted him to figure out what was best for himself.
That was the moment he was sure he was in love with you. He just about kissed you then and there.
The little bit of time you shared after that day was filled with sneaky stolen kisses, secretive glances, desperate hugs... and sometimes something a little bit more.
Starting a relationship during a life or death tournament wasn't the best idea, but oh, was it wonderful.
But fate always intervenes with star-crossed lovers.
Only Sonia was there to comfort you when Liu Kang was Slain at the hands of Raiden.
It was devastating. Raiden had been like a father to you and so many others. Even if you didn't know the full details on how the fight happened... It hurt. It hurt so bad. You couldn't look at Raiden the same again. You couldn't bare the thought of seeing Liu Kang's revenant.
Once you had done everything you could for Raiden and earthrelm, you retired from that life. You went home, spent time with loved ones, found a new job, and continued on as best as you could. You could never bring yourself to love another no matter how many years passed.
When the past and present fused, it was little Cassie who asked for your help. They were going to need a lot of man-power to defeat chronica. What else could you do but rush to help your old friends?
You freeze up when you see Liu and your younger self.
They just looked... so happy. So naive.
Even so, you find yourself smiling while watching them. The younger you had so much potential in her timeline. You almost prayed that she'd get to experience it with Liu.
Liu had already respected you and your older self, but when he becomes the fire God, and defeats chronica, and then Shang Tsung, he has all of history at his finger tips. When he sees just how you had suffered while mourning his death, that respect only becomes greater.
He has history bending to his will, and even if Raiden called it naive, Liu couldn't stop himself from giving you a happy ending. How would a small detail like that be of any concern to the thunder God anyway?
Mabye one day he would have the courage to ask you to stay with him and the hourglass till the end of time. But for now, he was content with having the thought as a daydream.
But when that day did come, it came bearing many gifts. Like kisses, and hugs, and open affection without any care of who would see. After all, it would only be just the two of you forever.

Hello. I remember you wrote Enoch could be a traitor/re-programmed by his fellow Chronicoms as one of the options for his fate. What do you think now? He's become one of my favorite characters, which I didn't expect, to be honest, and I'm afraid he might sacrifice himself to save our team no matter how they treat him.
Hi Anon,
I still have concerns for Enoch, A lot can happen in the 50 years or so he was away from the team.  I always worry if we’ve had someone on the team out of site, I mean look it took Izel seconds to take over Davis.
And yes, I’m totally annoyed with how the rest of the team is treating Enoch.  He’s been living with Fitzsimmons for years who don’t see him as a Robot, he’s a friend and likely family to them after all they have been through together.  He’s saved all of their lives many times over so I’d just prefer they’d be a little nicer andmore appreciative of him.
I adore Encoh and yeah I’m glaring at the writers to let him be.  I still feel his ideal ending will be he rebuilds the Chronicom race, taking them back from this Hunter state back to Anthropologists and he finds a better home from Chronica 3.  Or he could retire to a cottage down the lane from Fitzsimmons and resume his duties on earth.  Cool with that too.    I also think that we do indeed have a twist coming with him.  He’s become and important character and the writers have the territory now to throw in more of his back story.  That bit about him originally training under Atarah, the fearsome hunter was just the first tick in that box for me.
Me adoring Enoch alone usually is enough to worry me, as his loss, betrayal, or sacrifice would hut so bad.  Which again leads me to glare at the writers.  But my comfort is if Enoch is copted by the baddies it won’t be his choice and as soon as he is free or his Bestie is in danger he’ll be back on the rescue again.
Now that we are getting him back with the team next week I’ll start to get a better idea.  Even more I am really looking for a scene between him and Jemma about Fitz’s message and the concerns that may raise.

False hopes
Izel kept telling them that Pachakutiq is the dominant personality - he just needs to remember that. Sarge kept warning them he’s probably not going to be able to hold him back. But May wanted to believe because she wanted to hold on to Coulson and to what she’s lost. That hope she may get it back. Just few more moments. Just a little bit of the man she loved. Those glimpses kept her from fully committing to fight him and them made her hope he’ll chose her but that was not Coulson. It almost killed her and now she’ll wake up to the LMD.
Still part of me wants to think it was he Coulson part of him that pushed her into that portal. Pachakutiq knew the life and death are meaningless there. Leaving her on Earth would mean she would just died. There she isn’t one of them so the sword wasn’t going to puff her. She could fight back.
Of course, in the end, it was Izel’s own feeling of superiority that doomed her and her endeavour. If she knew May she would never left her standing nor turned her back to her. May killed the Three once what made Izel thing she wouldn’t destroy them again?
Also the portal just closed once Pachakutiq died and all the Shrike disintegrated once Izel was gone. It seems like all these were powered by them and failed with them. This is probably why Izel was able to make so many new Shrike so fast after Daisy destroyed the tower ones. They were all extension of her. And her death was the end of them. At least that made more narrative sense than the Chitauri.
And then Simmons comes and whisks them to the past. The men who came with her took a piece of Time Monolith before they left so that’s probably connected to how they travelled. They probably have Flint too. Jump drive + Time Monolith + Flint = you can go anywhere and anywhen.
What surprised me was Chronicoms destroying the Monoliths. Atarah wanted to use the Monolith (especially Time) to save Chronica-2 but the Hunters destroyed Monoliths once again (although how that not just created another rift I don’t know) and set up their new home on Earth. What about the rest of their people? Are they no longer interested in getting them back? Or do they believe in multiverse now?
Also what about Avengers? They attacked SHIELD because they could’ve stopped them but there’s still Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch and whole of Wakanda and even Captain Marvel somewhere in space. hell, Spider-Man could possibly chase them off planet with a little help from his secret Skrull friends.

Trimax Vol 13 Ch 1-4
I'm leaving on vacation this week, so I want to get my thoughts out before I go. Unfortunately, I'll be too busy to really participate in volume 14 next week, but I'll be reading along and reading what everyone else has to say. But without further ado, part 1 of my thoughts on volume 13!
Ch 1
Legato is back on his killing Vash bullshit. He is so devoted to Knives that he would go against what he wants to give him what he thinks he deserves. There are so many levels of mental gymnastics going on here, I kinda can’t keep up.
Chronica is so past the point of caring about anything except her own revenge. Civilians in the city beneath her? Who cares! She just wants to destroy Knives. I wonder if it’s about more than the fact that he killed Domina, if there’s something about the fact that he’s an Independent that’s causing so much damage and giving Independents a bad name that’s driving her to act like this.
Of all the human villains Vash has faced, Legato is truly the most powerful, the one who he would have the hardest time standing against regardless of his morals. How do you fight a guy who can control your entire body? How do you fight someone who is so obsessed with killing you, he’d do anything to achieve it?
This conversation between Knives and Legato is interesting. Let’s see if I can get my thoughts about it straight. Legato still wants to kill Vash for whatever he did to Knives, even though Knives doesn’t want that and seems to want Vash’s death to be at his own hands. Legato desperately wants to prove to Knives how loyal he is—and Knives flat out tells him he doesn’t care.
That’s such a blow. And I imagine it would only motivate Legato more, to prove that he is worthy, that he can hold Vash and defeat him, to make himself worthy in the eyes of his god, his truest love, whatever Knives is to him.
Knives is so cruel to him. What a thing to say to someone who has only ever followed you and done what you asked of them. It makes you feel bad for Legato.
Tumblr media
I personally have never been able to decide if Knives really cares about Legato or views him as a useful tool. Or if it’s a combination of the two, hampered by his ideology which doesn’t allow him to care about humans or see them as anything other than lowly parasites. This conversation just muddies the waters even more for me. He’s so dismissive of him and his powers whereas at other times he’s shown, at least in his actions, that he cares about Legato and his survival.
Then Legato also says, “His beliefs against my loyalty.” Which knowing what I know actually feels like a bit of foreshadowing…
Watching Vash fight Legato’s powers is so devastating. And I thought seeing him purposefully push himself closer to death was bad. This is just…a lot.
Add on Legato’s commentary to it and I feel like I’m chewing on glass. It’s been said over and over again lately, but something about Legato pointing it out and the blank look on Vash’s face fills me with indescribable emotions.
Vash is pushing so hard because he doesn’t want to live anymore. He doesn’t care about the pain or staying alive. Sure, he has a goal to accomplish, but what happens after that doesn’t matter, so he’ll push past the normal limits to do what he has to do.
What a strange moment of connection too, when Legato sees his own face reflected in Vash’s. They are enemies but they recognize this in each other. Usually, it’s painted as a bad thing when a villain says to a hero, “You’re just like me.” It’s certainly not good, but I don’t know. There’s no real moral judgment here. It’s just Legato realizing that Vash is more human than he originally thought. At least that’s the way I see it.
Finally, the reveal of the coins and what they do! It’s…a tool to let Legato have a “fair” final battle with Vash? Vash certainly doesn’t sound happy about that.
Ch 2
Oh, Vash is angry about this. All those deaths, all those people’s lives sacrificed, just for Legato to play this little game with Vash? What a cruel waste of life that spits in the face of everything Vash believes in.
Legato, what the actual fuck. He just…puts Vash’s gun in his mouth??? What a move though, what a way to prove himself right. That Vash won’t shoot him even when he can put the gun straight into his mouth.
Okay, I have no idea what’s happening here other than Legato executing some incredibly complicated maneuver and Vash still not shooting him because he’s Vash. But also how does he not crack his teeth doing all of that and keeping Vash’s gun in his mouth for the majority of it?
Livio and Elendira have the best fight banter. I’m living for it.
It’s nice to see Livio be confident about something, even if it’s his own fighting prowess. He’s been so anxious and unsure up to now, it’s great to see him really go for something.
Livio, why are you being so cute right now? You’re in the middle of battle!
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the Earth fleet secretly descends to the planet’s surface. I wonder what they’re planning?
Ch 3
Where in the world did Legato get his giant Iron Maiden mace from? Like, where has he been hiding it this entire time? I know I won’t get an answer because Nightow plays by the rule of cool, but it’s just so funny.
I don’t know why I’m even surprised by Legato at this point. Licking Vash’s blood from the floor? Okay, why not!
So Vash and Legato both want to die, but it’s in very different ways. Vash doesn’t see a place for himself in the world anymore and he can’t see a future beyond this battle. Meanwhile, Legato almost wants to die to prove a point—the ultimate representation of his loyalty to Knives. He’ll die trying to kill Vash the Stampede for him, because his life doesn’t matter, only Knives’s mission. I don’t really know what to make of it, other than it makes Legato a very dangerous person for Vash to be fighting right now. Because nothing will make him stop.
“Tell me, if it were not for you, would he have accepted me?” → Is Legato implying that he’s been trying to act as a replacement Vash for Knives? The trusted brother and confidant Knives supposedly always wanted Vash to be and Legato has desperately been trying to fill that role for years? No wonder Legato hates Vash so much.
Livio, sweetheart, I love you so much. Runs around mid fight to get his hat and cloak back like he’s Indiana Jones, makes the cutest little face when he gets them back. They’re so important to him. He literally just got them and he’s unwilling to let them go! They’re the symbol of the new man he’s trying to become. Truly, he’s stronger with them.
Tumblr media
Ch 4
There’s something about Elendira’s new outfit that reminds me of a skeleton. Or more of an exoskeleton. It’s so strange and we’ve never seen her in it before. Who is this mysterious woman and what is she going to do now?
She’s moving so much faster and she’s suddenly smoking? These are some new and unknown powers for her.
These poor soldiers are not having a good night at all. Imagine a giant ship just appearing in front of you while the world is ending. I’d be pretty freaked out too.
But can we trust these new people from the Earth Fleet? Because so far, the Earth Fleet hasn’t done much to help and Chronica has kind of given up helping humanity in favor of revenge.
As Vance is explaining the situation to Luida and co, I suddenly realized that most people had no idea what was going on or what the Ark was. Or who Knives is! One day, a strange ship just appeared on the horizon, looking like nothing they’d ever seen before, and started destroying everything in sight. That makes the past 7 months even worse.
Now, not only is Knives actively a threat, he’s holding so much power he could literally destroy the planet. One being was never meant to have so much power and it seems like it’s inevitable that he’s going to lose control of it.
Can’t get over this description of Vash or Luida’s face when she realizes who Vance is talking about. “For some reason his hair always stands on end.” He does that on purpose because he likes it, Vance. That’s literally it.
Tumblr media
But I wonder how the Earth Fleet knows about him. And how they think he can help that isn’t just fighting Knives.
I think the award for most ridiculous gun in Trigun should go to Legato’s oversized Iron Maiden mace. Because what even. How is that a gun. Why is that a gun. Nightow, I have so many questions.
Wait, did Vash’s coat turn black too? Like in episode 12 of Stampede? He’s using up so much of his power that it isn’t just changing his hair color but the color of his clothing. Or is this just Nightow being symbolic and the coat is still red?
Tumblr media
Elendira says something about removing her restraints and now I’m wondering if that skeleton suit is her actual body. And who were the other two people she removed her restraints for? Part of me wonders if one of them was Knives and that’s how they met? Elendira, I have so many questions about where you come from and what your powers are.
And Razlo makes an appearance! We haven’t seen him for a while. I wonder if that’s what Elendira senses here. Though I wonder how she even feels him. Sometimes, the theories about Elendira being part Plant in Trimax feel very correct because of things like this.
