one might argue that the way barton huffed through his nostrils in a wry sense of disbelief at what he heard come out of the other's mouth, rather than at the terrible thing that was just said through his own lips without an ounce of shame, told you everything you needed to know about him; that he was a brutal and very unfeeling person. but honestly, even if those things were the least bit true, barton thought... he was only saying what everyone would be thinking in their heads if they knew what was really going on behind the scenes. they just wouldn't want to say it aloud for one reason or another, whether that was due to the fear of being ostracized by their peers, or frowned down upon by society as a whole. kind of like how he was currently by the man standing beside him.
barton took a long drag out of his cigarette and averted his gaze from one of the big, bright displays that decorated the skyline to meet the others eyes. the displays were showcasing what looked like the latest news: and that was what barton seemingly was making a comment on, as the death of a cop that was rather infamous for being a ' pinnacle of kindness and care to their community ' was the main headline for that day. except that man was everything but in reality. it was just so rich to be seeing him regarded as some fantastic guy, when barton knew for a fact that he was a sleazeball who he had seen hanging around his old boss, as he was secretly in their pocket and doing their dirty work. and if there was one person that barton held contempt for more than anything... it was the man who used to treat him like he was something less than human. or, less than dirt, actually.
but of course, barton would never tell the gcpd of his corruption because he knew that rainer (you have to put a face to the name for these people) would realize that it was him who'd sold him out. and besides... since when did he have faith in the gcpd, or even like the police? they were all a bunch of pigs to him. so, barton let him continue on with his little game of playing the role of the well-beloved police officer while he was helping people get killed on the side. he rolled his eyes then, ❝ well, if i had known that you were such a big fan of the police, then i likely wouldn't have said anything. but i rest my case: a lot of people do deserve to die, stranger, and he was one of them. so i don't feel sorry for him or his family at all. ❞
barton stated this all in a very matter-of-fact manner, blowing smoke out through his nose from his cigarette before he continued, ❝ i mean, where was this guy if he was so good whenever the city got flooded? i didn't see him among the people who were helping other's whenever everything went to shit. in fact, i bet he was probably sitting in some place really safe and warm whenever it happened, because i knew the real kind of person that he was. a total prick who certainly wasn't the golden boy that the news is trying to make him out to be, ❞ he flicked his cigarette down on the ground and smushed it underneath his boot, successfully putting out the fire on its other end. barton turned to face arthur completely with an unamused look in his eyes.

KEEPING WATCH
• NEBULA x READER •
Summary: When Nebula is taken captive on the Guardians' ship, you, as well as Rocket and Groot, are tasked with keeping watch while the others go to Ego.
When the others leave for Ego's planet, someone has to stay behind. Rocket and Groot are a no-brainer, but you volunteer as well. It surprises Quill when you tell him you're staying, but you reason that you're more needed here than you are with them. You don't feel right leaving Groot, as young as he is and as attached as you are to him, and that reasoning seems to satisfy Quill, but it's not the whole story.
Gamora's sister intrigues you more than you'd care to let on.
So they leave, and you watch them go, hands on your hips as the large egg-like spaceship grows smaller and smaller in the distance until you can't see it anymore. From behind you, you can hear Rocket trying to explain in the simplest terms every step of the repairs he's making to a tiny Groot who clearly doesn't understand a single bit of it judging by the questions he's asking. Rocket's patience toward him has always amazed you, considering the way he treats everyone else.
Scanning the edge of the clearing until you're satisfied there's nothing to worry about, you turn to face the opening of the broken-down ship. Rocket leads Groot farther into the ship and out of sight, leaving you and Nebula alone, her arms shackled to the ceiling. She's staring off into the woods until she feels your gaze on her, and as she turns two pitch black eyes your way with a glare that feels like it would kill you where you stood if it could, you swallow dryly and try to resist the urge to look away.
She watches you walk toward her, various twigs and leaves crunching underneath your feet before turning into the cold clang of boots on metal.
"I'm hungry," she finally speaks, short and to the point, that glare still heavy on her brow. "Are you hoping to starve me to death before you're able to collect the bounty on my head?"
This question confuses you considering this is the first time the two of you have really spoken, but once you take into account the likeliness of nobody else having been willing to feed her, it makes more sense.
Without a word, you walk past her, causing her to grunt in a mixture of exasperation and irritation. Who does she have to kill to get something to eat around here? Apparently everyone.
You return a moment later with a banana, peeling it enough to give Nebula access to it before reaching out to Nebula's good hand. Even shackled, this was something she could eat by herself. Very slight surprise etched her features at the sight of you offering her something to eat. Slowly, she took the banana.
"It's from Earth," you explain, stepping back to give her some space. "Or, uh, Terra, I guess. It's my favorite fruit, so I picked some up on our last visit."
Inwardly, you cringe. Who cares what your favorite fruit is? That's not a needed part of the explanation.
Nebula only stares at you for an uncomfortable amount of time, and you're tempted to apologize for even saying anything, but you decide to dig your own grave even further, apparently.
"I know it's not really a meal, but I'm not really the greatest cook, so trust me when I say I'm doing you a bigger favor by not subjecting you to that."
Nebula arches a brow. "Thank you for letting me eat a single banana while I remain cuffed to the ceiling of your ship."
Shit.
"That's fair," you respond, looking away, back out to the edge of the clearing. A few seconds of silence pass as Nebula eats the food and you try to will away the pink tinge to your cheeks.
"... Thank you," Nebula says again, but it's more sincere this time. When you look her way, she isn't looking back, instead focusing on an exposed patch of wires on the opposite wall of the ship. You notice the only thing left of the banana is the peel, so you step forward, flinching slightly as Nebula's head snaps your way to watch your approach with fierce and distrusting caution.
You raise your hands in a manner that hopefully conveys that you come in peace. "Just coming to take the peel. You're not supposed to eat that part."
"Oh."
She doesn't speak again, but her shoulders relax slightly and she looks away again, so you take that as a sign that you can continue your approach. Your fingers brush against hers as you take the peel. Eyes moving to meet Nebula's, you see that she's looking at you out of the corner of her eye. For a second, you remain there, seeing something in those eyes that makes you want to know her. She's done so much bad, but that's not all you see in her. Or maybe that's not all you want to see in her.
You open your mouth to speak again when the sound of Rocket's voice, loud and exasperated, rings loudly throughout the ship.
"No, the other wire! Agh, forget it! I'm gonna go set up some traps around the perimeter; you stay here!"
Footsteps approach and you quickly step back a step, two, three, banana peel in hand. Rocket comes into view, not even sparing a glance in you or Nebula's direction as he exits the ship.
"Y/N, keep an eye on Groot, will ya? Kid's gonna blow us all up."
"Sure, yeah," you respond, swallowing dryly as you glance back at Nebula. She's still staring at you. Not glaring. Just staring, like she's trying to figure something out.
With that, you excuse yourself to go find Groot.

I just wrapped up Chapter 3 and started Chapter 4, and THERE'S AN H-SCENE RIGHT AFTER THE FIRST STORY. It's going to be Bimet's. It has to be. I can feel it in my bones Belial is still being treated in the hospital and no other demons were introduced or are likely to show up rn anyways so it only makes sense (edit 1: IT'S BIMETTTTTT)

update II: Bimet is blushing ALREADY, and he's almost begging MC to let him 'help' her. Goddamn, bro, have some dignity lol humour and jokes aside, though, Bimet is very much about materialism, so such behaviour makes perfect sense and is expected of him. I like the realistic take on it i.e. money and riches would make him do anything, that kind of thing. He also seems to have become VERY fascinated with MC after Mammon made her his master
update III: yup, MC either stands there butt naked, crawls under the covers or cloaks herself and turns into a reaper. And given what's about to happen, just imagining her sitting on the edge of the bed huddled up like an old lady is comical to say the least lmao
update IV: kneel, before your queen aaand he knelt I have a weird feeling about that
update V: yeah hon, I figured as much does that mean Mammon used to be the one that aroused him most?
I also find his wording interesting, particularly the 'owned his Majesty Mammon' part, as it suggests that he may view living beings—and now even his very own king—as another 'brand' of possessions.
Look at his face though, the man is gonna snap snapped like a button off a shirt
update VI: run for it, MC he totally lost it lmao it's all at once intriguing, sort of hot and funny to see him act like this. He always carries himself so elegantly and speaks with such sophistication, yet he's so worked up rn that he's basically functioning with half a brain
update VII: why are his eyes bloodshot and why is he acting like a cat and why do I feel like he's this close to holding her foot and kissing her toes or worse pls don't do that she hasn't even cleaned them
update VIII: he seems to get off on the idea of serving her, but if I'm being honest, I don't like the idea of someone viewing themselves as a servant to the other. It feels degrading no matter how I look at it.
However! This is merely my 'humane' voice talking, if you will, because taking into account Bimet's Timophilia and the way in which he thinks makes this such an excellent take on his scene and the very foundation of it—it's smartly dark and perfectly in character. I appreciate that a lot and enjoy the twisted tinge to it.
With that being said, let me continue reading and see what he plans on doing next I can guess

update XXXI: this is a sweet gesture with unusual undertones. He cares about her in a delusional (in all honesty) and strange manner, but he doesn't quite like her for who she is like others do (i.e. Satan (my bby♡) and Mammon). Yet, he's giving her the first thing he ever considered to be his, and knowing his mentality, that's a big deal—it shows just how seriously he takes this no matter how funny it appears to be.
But not him describing Solomon as a saucy man lmao love that saucy must be a hereditary trait
I'm also very fond of the concept of giving someone something and asking them to give it back one day with an arrogant expression and saucy words, of course it's such a sentimental concept that has a tint of mystery to it.

+note: I mentioned this earlier, but the way Bimet's Timophilia was handled was smart and very proportionate to his character. I just have a note on Bimet's character, specifically in the final part of the scene.
I'm going to say that while Bimet really enjoys serving MC, I don't approve of how he talks about himself as though he's an object and not a living being (i.e. by saying 'if you feel like I have value'). There's dark beauty to this theme, and it's so damn good it feeds my love for the twisted things lol more importantly, that's just how Bimet's mind often works: materialistically, so he doesn't have an issue with referring to himself that way.
From a sound perspective, though, it's sad that he holds such a view, because in reality he is neither an item to be used nor a servant; also, MC being Solomon's descendant, as well as Bimet quite literally believing the delusion that she's the richest person in the world, both don't mean that MC has the right to weigh anyone's value—that's not to say she will do so—no matter how much he believes that she does.
However, this is a HUGE compliment on my part. What I'm saying is, it's on par with who Bimet is and how he thinks. Basically, it's these themes and mangled aspects to the characters that play a great part in making this entire game such a refreshing pleasure. I really hope it stays that way.

A Night to Remember

A Night to Remember:
A book by Walter Lord, published in 1955. It is a non-fictional account of what happened on board the Titanic before and during the catastrophe (it was also made into a movie in 1958). Sinking ship, sounds familiar? Check out my post on Good Omens and Lord Jim.
In A Night to Remember, the author uses interviews with 63 survivors of the catastrophe and other first-hand accounts to weave together a realistic account of what happened to the Titanic and its passengers. How is this relevant to GO? Well, the author of the book got praise for his unconventional treatment of chronology, time and space (check out my post on GO queering plot/narrative).
Apparently, he used a multitude of perspectives to present the same event from different POVs, creating multiple narratives that are arranged in a way that juxtaposes contradicting facts and emotions. And what for? To show the “human element” of the disaster rather than the mythology of it. Sounds familiar?
I find this intertextual reference especially intriguing seeing as Aziraphale’s dance in the bookshop is followed by disaster, and Aziraphale (the captain of this particular metaphorical ship) is too enmeshed in his fantasy of love and romance that he does not see the danger ahead, even when warned by Crowley. And obviously the consequences of that particular night are far-reaching.
Here's a bonus quote from Wikipedia:
“Lord updates the popular interpretation of the Titanic disaster by portraying it in world-historical terms as the symbolic and actual end of an era, and as an event which "marked the end of a general feeling of confidence." Uncertainty replaced orderliness, and the ship's sinking marked the beginning of the twentieth century's "unending sequence of disillusionment. Before the Titanic, all was quiet. Afterward, all was tumult."
But not enough: “A Night to Remember” is also a Song by Shalamar from 1982:

In my reading, this is how Aziraphale feels during the dance. He is totally caught up in the fantasy of “a love that’s, oh, so tender” and he really makes this grand gesture to make it a night to remember for him and Crowley. The lines that get me most here are “I’m so glad we reached an understanding” (oh no), “to think of what the power of love can do” (a 25-lazarii miracle, perhaps?) and “Now to you I make a lasting dedication/ I'll show you all that love and life can be, ooh/ And each day that I live I will deliver” (I am sure this is what Aziraphale is trying to prove to Crowley all the time, in his own way …)

yes absolutely!! i have read some bangers lately tbh. also another thing i am trying to do is start uuuh reviewing what i'm reading so i will link a couple of those as well. but here is a sporadic collection of my reading enjoyments of the last year or so!
IF FOUND RETURN TO HELL // THE DEATH I GAVE HIM by Em X. Liu
em is hands down one of the best writers i know with prose that will punch you in the face and leave you asking if you can have another, please.
IF FOUND RETURN TO HELL is a queer found family novella featuring a done-with-this protag working in a wizarding call centre who abruptly comes down with a case of 'sweet angel baby boy possessed by demon hell child' in a broken magical healthcare system where following protocol is more important than like, helping people. so what is journeyman wen to do if not, you know, help anyway?
THE DEATH I GAVE HIM is the queer scifi hamlet retelling of my dreams, which is funny because i didn't care about hamlet until this book taught me how to. a thoughtful exploration on the nature of adaptation, death & immortality, and also what happens when your best friend is an AI and you wanna fuck him.
IN COLD BLOOD by Truman Capote the original true crime novel. still stuck in my truman blorbo moment. full review here
ASSASSIN'S APPRENTICE by Robin Hobb classic 90s fantasy with surprisingly emotional focus on the protag in a way i really dug. unhinged levels of accidental queerbaiting in a way that i enjoyed rather than despaired of. full review here.
PANDORA'S JAR: WOMEN IN THE GREEK MYTHS by Natalie Haynes a great overview of classical women that takes into account multiple sources and the way they have been read over centuries, and how the time in which a tale is being told affects the tale just as much as what the text of the story actually is. does a good job of walking the middle ground between like, historical sexism and the reflexive girlbossification instinct.
IN OTHER LANDS by Sarah Rees Brennan the queer harry potter offshoot we all actually deserve. portal fantasy with an acerbic main character who will save the world out of sheer spite because the world doesn't seem to think he can save it, or want him to do it even if he could. a genuinely lovely musing on the nature of loneliness, what abuse does to a child, how it's hard but possible to overcome the prejudices you learn when you're young, and how eventually, you're going to have to make the decision to let yourself be loved.
SHE WHO BECAME THE SUN by Shelley Parker-Chan truly i don't have the word for how fucking excellent this queer epic fantasy is. set in mongol-ruled china, this book is a masterclass in political intrigue, historical fiction, military fantasy, and also genderfuckery. feat. the kind of tragedy you see coming for several hundred pages and still takes your breath away when it hits, and also lesbian fisting. anyone who says books based in history can't get queer can get fucked.
A MARVELLOUS LIGHT by Freya Marske for a total 180 in mood, here is your queer romantic fantasy set in an Edwardian England that is reflective of the fact that like, queer people did in fact exist in Edwardian England. A lighter fare that nonetheless will hit you right in the heart and leave you delighted that a) there's a second book out now and b) the third one is coming soon. also Freya is an Artiste when it comes to writing good sex scenes, which
i belatedly realise it seems like i'm focusing on in this post but i just! like a queer text that tackles queer sex with nuance and interest and the horror and/or joy of the body, and the above authors are all fucking masters at their art (which includes, but by no means is limited to, writing about fucking)

Hey there, 66! Hope you're doing great. I have been going through your account for the past few hours (this reminds me of that one time I stayed up till 2 am as I appreciated all the artworks on your Instagram) so I know you've heard this several times, but I wanted to say it myself too: your work is wonderful. Believe me, I absolutely love it!
I found City of Blank years ago, during its first season. I read it all, and was quite impressed with the concept, intrigued by the plot, and in love with the characters. But before the next season started, I dropped out of reading Webtoons completely, as far as I remember. Long story short, I revisited Webtoon recently, read a few episodes of City of Blank, and was hooked. Yep. I binge-read the entire rest of the episodes in... three to five days?
So I want to commend you on your amazing concept, beautiful and eye-catching art, plot that keeps me reading late into the night (and at the dining table, between my studies, every single chance I get), the characters (really, they're very well-written — please don't doubt that — and unique, with different stories and personalities, I just love them), and the themes too (incorporated nicely, and it does make me wonder what it means to be a human). The way you write grey characters is one of the best things in your story, I feel.
(I feel like I should give you specific examples of what I like, but I have a tendency of talking too much, as you can see, so this will get way too long, I think... and sorry about the already huge chunks of text. but I hope this make you feel happy somehow)
Alright, now onto my actual questions. They're actually not related to the webcomic itself, since I really can't think of anything interesting... But your story is really good, so here are some queries I have about writing in general.
Do you have any tips for thinking of ideas? About concepts, plot, whatever; how to really get your brain in that mode, you know.
How do you create such vibrant characters? My characters are so similar... there are at least three pairs of nearly-identical characters. And how do you make them flawed yet still so likable?
They are pretty general questions, my apologies. It's just that, you know, since I'm getting to interact with the creator of one of my current favourite stories, why not learn something from them? You can just answer with your personal processes or whatever, I just wished to know how you do it.

Hey there! Gonna do my best to answer this since it's been in my inbox for a while, but apologies if it's not the most coherent as my head's still in a bit of a fog from a cold.
First off, thank you for the kind words. I remember they made my day when I first got this ask, but they made it again as I'm waking up w/ a throbbing head ache and coughing my lungs out from the NYCC 2023 Con Crud™.
Anyway, gonna answer your questions the best I can, especially because I'm not entirely sure what the best way to answer these kinds of questions are-
Do you have any tips for thinking of ideas? About concepts, plot, whatever; how to really get your brain in that mode, you know.
I think one thing I like to shape a lot of my concepts around is making something unordinary ordinary. I've talked about it before, but one of the inspirations behind blanks is shadow people, like the ghosts. They're so horrifying and creepy to me, and I thought it would be neat if I made a world where the most creepy and scary thing to me was just...super ordinary and mundane. Like a world where you go into your living room and you're like "Man, that shadow person is still standing in front of my tv. How obnoxious."
A lot of my upcoming ideas kind of focus around this concept too. What if we lived in a world where demons were just every day citizens that went to work and school with us? What if we lived in a world where nobody feared death and was excited for it? What if we lived in a world where half the population was in prison? I can't say every single story idea I have falls into this, but I'd say a lot of them do and I find it's often a kick off point for a lot of my ideas.
How do you create such vibrant characters? My characters are so similar... there are at least three pairs of nearly-identical characters. And how do you make them flawed yet still so likable?
Do I make them likable? Sometimes I can't tell when I look at characters like Lyss haha. Because I think she's a victim of how I write characters, which is just... I dunno, write them like they're real people. Everybody is mad at the decisions Lyss made but... I'm sorry. I'll forever die on the hill that everyone are hypocrites and 90% of people would have done the same thing in her shoes. Only a flawless, benevolent, and frankly kind of stupid, person would have just...let Rex go in those circumstances, evil other half be damned. He was still a danger who proved he couldn't control himself, and the same way you'd probably report your best friend who was driving raving drunk after he just smashed into someone, she reported a dangerous person. Even if people hate her for it, I wrote what any person would have done in that situation. And that's how I try to write all my characters, for better or for worse. A lot of Rex's stupid decisions are dictated by his anxiety and depression, and I know from firsthand experience how being in that state of mind can influence your decisions and overall outlook on life and the people who love you, despite what you may think.
I guess my advice is just to give them human flaws. A lot of people don't like Nia because she's manipulative, but I write her as a character who 100% practices what she preaches. Yeah, she "gas lit" Rex into joining Blan Corp, but she also 1000% believed it was the best thing for him.
Desmond probably comes off as the more "flawless" characters, but his own self-loathing and... catholic blank guilt is a big part of what pushed Rex away. In the time when Rex was questioning and hating himself for being a blank, why would he ever go the one person who hates himself for being a blank more than him? When he could go to the person (Nia) who celebrates him being a blank, and reminds him he can be loved for being one.

Enough buddy!" he says walking over giving an apologetic smile to the woman "Shane you are free for today we'll discuss this tomorrow" he says before picking up the phone to the mic "all customers shopping at Joja Mart prices are all now half off" Morris says. Shane scoffs at Morris "what the hell does she have in that purse!" before walking into the back room. He changes out of his work attire before leaving out the back door.

Hey, just wanted to say I love reading your analysis and thank you for being a ‘pioneer’ in TOTK critique on tumblr haha. Lately I started seeing more criticism videos popping up on youtube that are solid, but your analysis is still much more detailed and presents original and valid points. You really helped me to define and put down into words some subconscious feelings that I had about the game. I feel really bad for you (but not in a pitying way) when I see blogs like ‘zeldadeservesabreak’ who come at your analysis skills and are just so unreasonably rude unprovoked (aside from being just factually incorrect at times).
My theory is that it’s their maturity. My theory is that this happens because there are younger fans of the series who seek to have a deeper analysis and discussion about the narrative and aim to sound like a worthy debate opponent who is certain about their position and due to beginners confidence and inexperience in debate come off way too strong. Another small point to add, it peaks my curiosity seeing such devotion to a corporation (Nintendo). I ‘technically’ know why and how it happens, but I’m still always surprised to see someone being so devoted to defending and speaking for Nintendo.
Just wanted to assure you that there are us who greatly appreciate you sharing your thoughts and STILL engaging with questionable Asks after this. I wait for each post or reblog with anticipation and will share your blog with my friends as soon as they finish TOTK as they were really intrigued by the imperialist Rauru depiction. On the other hand, please don’t feel pressured to continue posting if it all gets too much at any point! Thank you for reading all of this if you did! I am really glad to know that there are more conversations happening outside of this little sphere. I scoured for these criticisms on Youtube in the first month and then pretty much gave up when they weren't coming up. I'm glad the conversation is widening, and I hope it keeps on happening over the years --not to hurt the game or its community, but just to encourage critical thought for one, and also just so Nintendo does a little better next time.
It might be maturity, but I am not... How do I put it. I don't think it is so much a question of age or even life experience than it being a question of, well, willingness to see yourself get destabilized a little bit. To me, a lot of the hostility that I've seen directed at these kind of theories are often extremely dismissive of the place they come from; they assume either overzealousness ( = you are seeing problems where there are none for ??? profit??? or just to pretend that you are morally purer than everybody else, which is a statement that never once looked like projection), confusion ( = don't you see the game tells you that this is good and this is bad ?), or bad faith ( = you are here to stir trouble for no reason, you are a troll). Very rarely do they actually engage with the arguments, but rather with the aesthetic quality of it; the way it rings to their ear, the way it is presented, and the intent they assume that led to these arguments being made in the first place. The best counter-arguments I have heard thus far who actually take what is being said into account can either be boiled down to: "I see your point, but it just doesn't bother me that much because of X, Y and Z who really touched me emotionally and I got invested in that (which is great and super valid in my opinion)", or: "I think Nintendo just didn't think about the effect of this decision and the way it weakened what they wanted to do, but I think the overall story of what they wanted to say overrules the way they achieved it, and I prefer focusing on the first rather than the latter (which is also completely legitimate)". I have not, so far, seen a better rebuttal than: it does not bother me personally for X or Y reason, but I am not denying that these might be problems to somebody else.
But yeah. It is the childhood, it is the safe space, it is good and uncomplicated, and so anything that hurts that wonderful piece of innocence that remains must be there with bad intentions. I assume this plays a huge role in the Nintendo Protection Squad, even when the criticism is honestly pretty mild all things considered.
(Also, if I may and as I close this subject: I think this is pretty interesting how it's only unreasonable to ask for a stronger narrative. If the combat had been subpar in TotK, I would not have cared that much personally honestly, but I'm pretty sure a *lot* of people would have complained and been extremely pissed at that, and this would have been an acceptable complaint to have --like the lack of dungeons was an acceptable complaint to wage against BotW. I don't think a great combat system with a lot of variation in approach is particularly more "the spirit of Zelda" than a simple, solid and well constructed story, but a lot of BotW players would probably disagree. Which is fine, the series is evolving, new standards are introduced! But why is this one the only standard that seems to be a reach too far, an unrealistic demand, something that *should* stay a non-priority even though it once clearly was one? Gamers and their approach to storytelling will forever perplex me honestly, which sucks given it's my job but whatever, you make your own hell etc)
But yeah. To be honest, I think a lot of people who don't really understand the "imperialist argument" do not lack for media literacy or analysis or maturity (I kind of am super tired of people throwing the "you have no media literacy!" at each other while never defining what they mean by that or never actually discussing what they actually disagree about), but maybe they do lack a little bit of political culture; especially culture about political communication. Which makes sense not to have or focus on a lot when you play a Zelda game, so. It's fine. vOv
It also does not escape my notice how a lot of the reticence to accept criticism gets the most virulent around the portrayal of power dynamics and race; even though I don't think any progressive fandom faced with a story that could be boiled down to "the good kingdom of the blonde, petite, blue-eyed heroes is invaded by a huge evil man from the desert with very racialized features who forcefully rules his all-women warriors in harem garbs" should bat an eye when some people say this sort of premice makes them uncomfortable and so should be handled very carefully, especially given the global rise of fascism, anti-immigration, and deadly islamophobia everywhere right now. It boggles my mind that this is even considered a controversial statement.
Like, discussing the shade and depth of Rauru's goatman *fur* as a way to counter the criticism that what birthed the character of Ganondorf is 5 racist tropes in a trenchcoat and should be navigated with more care than this is 2023 is so... deeply unserious to me. You know, sometimes things are a little iffy and can be acknowledged as such and then you can still like the Thing and it's fine, you don't even have to engage with the parts that make you uncomfortable, it's fine it's fineee.
But no need to worry about the effect of these kind of interactions on me, though it is very sweet to do so! <3 Let's say I'm not going to bed every night worrying about my critical thinking skills, my media literacy, or wondering whether or not I understand interactive narration haha
I am a little tired of talking about TotK in general tho, to be fully honest. I feel like I've kind of scraped the bottom of my takes, and I don't have a lot more to add --so the asks will probably slow down just by virtue of not repeating myself eternally, and wanting to extract myself from some of the discourse happening (also I just don't care enough about the game to put this much energy into it, it was never really meant to happen I just started receiving tons asks for some reason??? (thank you all!! it was really an Experience!!!! but thank you!!!) and then I replied to them, and then that got me more asks, etc etc, but yeah I never planned to talk about TotK that much haha)

I'm curious how can you manage to write something so deranged (complementary) and it's still amazing?? Like I've been trying to write something that's out of my comfort zone but always stop halfway or chickened out because I don't know where or how to write the character. Is there a tip or notes that you can share with us? I love your stories btw and I've read all of them. Thank you so much for sharing 😘 I hope you're successful in everything that you do.
okay let me see what advice i can give!
first tip: pick a work you think does this really well and print it out. grab some highlighters. go over it like a hawk, highlighting the places you think they nailed that you struggle with. is it because they use some special verbs? are they speeding up or slowing down action? skipping over details you think you have to include or it won't make any sense? take note of what verbs they use, how they choreograph, how they set up the space and scene. this is a bit of tedious process but it teaches you so much about how others do it if you're willing to put in the time, and is just a great writing habit overall imo.
second tip: i chicken out a lot too! sometimes i have to turn that shame around. like okay, what's stopping me. i'm posting something online and no one knows who i am irl, check. sometimes i make an entirely new ao3 account just to feel safe about it. sometimes that shame can be utilized in the characters. shame when used right can be really hot, because you want to show how much a character wants something, can't stop thinking about it, even though it makes them melt from shame. and then keep upping the ante until they can't resist the desire anymore.
third tip: contrary to popular belief i think almost any kink i feasibly care about can happen with any character if you build up the setting well enough. the simplest formula is framing it as a problem character A has, and character B offers a solution. limited POV to one character means limited knowledge, so you can also play with "oh my god why are they behaving so annoying/sluttily/weird around me? ooooh oh ok they want to do [nasty kink]" and then comes a period of reflection, wrestling with it. i sometimes straight up project my own thoughts into this zone to process and be able to actually write it hahaha. it's really sexy and good tension to show the internal friction of wanting something and getting just a taste, and realizing ah shit you want it even more now.
fourth tip: if the kink is really far out of your comfort zone, write like a stepping stone guide building up to it (say, lactation might be too far out. okay. breastplay? tit bondage? sucking on nipples really intensely? nipple clamps? oiled up breasts?). and see how far you can go along it. maybe you need to stop halfway in one fic but the next time you can go a little further, and the third time you make it all the way. it is completely fine and actually really cool to explore the same kinks over and over and i promise readers won't get tired!
fifth tip: this is more something i love to read than what i usually write myself, but: character A comes across a kink in media. they begin to research it, think about it, and maybe tell character B or B finds out through accident. turns out, B is intrigued and into it. this formula works really well in building up, pouring research into it, allowing yourself to linger in doubts and details and hesitations... this whole thing, is it a trope? it should be. i love it. and it works so well with so many kinks!

Technically, 3. Though, one is just the "smut" content of another fic. So, really, I just have the two.
2. What's your total A03 word count?
141,494 words.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
On this O3 account, just Clone Wars.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
M'dear, I only have two fics.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, I do! Especially if they are engaging questions that ask about the world-building, the character study, or my plot.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
It isn't ended, but it has the most angst in it, and it has also left-off in the angstiest way. But, it would be Aay'han: Mournful Celebration.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
From what the readers can tell? Aay'han: Mournful Celebration because it has a clear end; it is after Order 66, so the damage has been done, and now it is time to recuperate.
Nightmare for Others, Dreams for the Self ends off pretty early in the war, meaning I haven't gone over with the readers what happens. However, when I can update Nightmare for Others, I know how it will continue. And, there's gonna be some angst, but other things that will make up for Anakin's poor little life.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not yet. Though, I get a lot of comments asking me to write Cody-wan instead of, say, ObiRex.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do. I just didn't get a chance to write any for Batakin.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
No, and I don't particularly care for it, either. There's some Universes that I'd love a crossover, but I'd be picky as hell. I'd love to write a TCW and Transformers crossover!!!

No, I ain't important enough. Either is my works.

No.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Just like Inky, I sort of did? Batakin was the love-brain child of @spacingstars and I. We were supposed to work on it together, however, I got possessive, and they were also busy with work. It ended up easier for me to just write it myself.
Mournful Celebration was an event gift, and I used some things from our private roleplay together. Does that make it a co-author?
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
Again, I'm like Inky, that it depends on what my interest is. In TCW, Rexwalker has risen to the top of my OTP list, and that is entirely unexpected. I came in with a very different ship that I've mostly abandoned due to just... not vibing with its community. ObiRex is still so dear to my heart, and survives in a better state than say... other ships I'm still a registered with the manifest.
But, Rexwalker rose to the top. It tickles all my required ish-es. I love the potential for intrigue, for defiance of the narrative, the "solution" to so many problems found in simple places, and boyish cuteness.
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
A few that will never see the light of day because I lost interest. For the most part, I keep my WIPs down to a low. Once a WIP will no longer be finished, it isn't a WIP; it is a dropped project, and it is okay to drop them.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Long plots, contextual detail, world-building, dialogue, characterization...
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
There's some grammar things I'm weak as thinning cheap denim. I wouldn't call it a weakness, but I am not the author for anyone if they want concise, short stories.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Painful. I'd rather not. I don't like it because I'm trying to figure out the best way to convey to the reader what it translates. Including Mando'a is hard enough as it is.

Uhhh... I think a tiny little anime fandom called The Slayers. None of it will be found ever again. It has been lost to all time.

Star Wars: Come From Water, which is unpublished. I am still working on it!

I've been doing some thinking. Perhaps some dangerous thinking. Thoughts about creation, and family, and origins. It's been a few months now since the truth of my own origin was thrust upon me. Usually I try not to think about it, because it doesn't change the day to day facts of my life and all it does is drive me to maddening spirals of self-doubt. I don't want to be a fiction, stuck in this simulated world and cut off from reality. I don't like not knowing for sure if any of my actions are my own, or if they were all pre-written. But I can't change anything about that, so best just to distract myself from it and push it out of mind. All i can hope for is that I am like Stanley, created and yet independent.
But lately it's becoming harder to distract myself. Maybe it's because of the anniversary coming up, but I have been thinking about myself a lot. So, maybe this was really foolish of me, but last night, for the first time, I googled the name Davey Wreden. My curiosity overcame my dread; I simply had to know who this was. And I found.... just an ordinary human. I don't think I was expecting anything else, but it still feels unbelievable.
There wasn't a ton of information I found; a seldom-used Twitter account and a handful of interviews. But I did find something very intriguing to me. Another game. The title and logo caught my attention right away: The Beginner's Guide, with a lamppost lighting up the dark. It felt as though it was calling out to me, saying, This is your guide! This will illuminate the darkness surrounding you! And when I read the synopsis on Steam, I was astonished. It's a story about himself! He put himself into a game and narrated it!
This opens up an enticing possibility. As you're probably aware, I have the ability to travel into other video games, as long as they share the same platform as the Parable. And The Beginner's Guide is available on PC. If I were to enter it, would I get answers about who I am and where I come from? The thought fills me with anxiety and excitement in equal measure. I feel like Pandora eyeing the closed box, weighing the cost of opening it. So that's why I'm turning to you, Tumblr. This is a huge decision and I'm not great at making huge decisions by myself. Stanley and I are both ambivalent about it, so that doesn't help. I need the wisdom of the crowd for this one.

omgggg yes i have been STRUGGLING this past two weeks because i. uh. sprained my right wrist (my dominant hand) and doing Anything At All hurts so i have SO MANY thoughts in my head and nothing's going to come out of it until i'm healed
fight or flight has been a really interesting fic for me to write specifically bc i. didn't grow up religious? my mom's atheist and my dad's catholic and i've never gone to church, but religion is really interesting to me, and the topic of fate and God is really intriguing. i like looking into faith and fate and learning about the different ways people see things, and i wanted to write a fic that felt. A Lot. like my dad's Catholic Childhood ExperienceTM and where he and his siblings are now in life, since all of them fell to different religions different ways and still keep in contact. i also wanted to touch on suburban family relationships in general bc goddamn those are fucked up.
fight or flight was originally going to be a lot more Kristen Vs Mac and Donna– the document title's still a pun based on that– but the more i thought about it the little it fit with her character: as much as kristen is bold, she's much more of a say something and run character– she doesn't quite know what'll happen after she says anything, does she? and she doesn't think before she speaks, so if anything goes wrong, she's likely to flee.
i've also started revamping my Coffe AU! it was, essentially, a modern coffeeshop au where different characters were in slightly different scenarios and the bad kids didn't quite become a friendgroup until after college, where adaine and ayda ran a coffee shop and the sig figs were Vibing and riz? worked five million jobs? and aelwyn actually gets therapy. the pacing of the fic was bad, though, and it was overall unrealistic, so i'm planning out a slightly different fic– they're all going to the same excessively large college, and keep meeting up at the coffee shop Ayda and Adaine run for said college. goldenhoard was the main villain in the first one; kalina was fully a housecat; cass didn't even EXIST because i wrote it before i got a dropout account and i only could watch up to ep3 of sophomore year! that's all changing, though; the gukgaks still have a cat named kalina but she Is Named After Someone
the "fic", if i ever get around to writing it, would be an actual longfic, written from one person's perspective, and a series of oneshots for a buncha other characters. the longfic was originally from adaine's perspective, but i might go fig this time around bc my girl adaine is Hard and i want the challenge of writing from the perspective of someone who isn't the Main Character of the story.

i had a riz + mordred fic in the works, but since it seems mordred is going to be in jy a lot, that one's on hold until the season goes. i wanted to write it because the premise made me laugh: it was riz really sweetly bonding with different members of mordred and then him and zayn. awkwardly staring at each other as they realize their adaine's-best-friend title will never belong to either of them again and will forever be ayda's.
i wrote a drawtectives fic recently, which i know you're not in the fanbase for but i started a second one, from york's perspective, which cycles around rosé going back to college and york learning how The City is different and what family is to him (and also learning to cook bc grandma is the Only Competent One) AND i want to round out the trio, since the first was a rosé fic and this ones a york and so the third would be a grendan one, which is about getting york to his fashion shoots, i think? that one's a lot more up in the air, because. i want them to be Mostly Separate and so i want to see where york takes me.
and, in the drawtectives vein, i'm working on episode transcripts! pre-sprain, i could do 10 pages per hour, but now i'm down to 4-6, depending on the complexity. it's the only thing i don't struggle to do bc it's mostly writing names and correcting (or messing up) some grammar. i finished s1 on the... 18th? 19th? and i'm about 25 minutes into s2ep1 so. it's gonna take a while. but GOD i'm becoming a lore keeper for this. and also my vocal recognition for These Four People Specifically is. so good now. i can recognize their hums, it's insane.
and my friend (the most lovely and also basically inactive @mug-fullof-roses) and i are making plushies! just four drawtectives (the guys and also eugene), and we're still in the fabric buying but i think i'm going to try to find some good patterns over break because. clothing??? help??
and!! bringing it around again!! i've sketched out the dumbest comic for dance au bc something happened in my dance class that had me going "bad kids right here" the entire week. my hiphop teacher started playing that billie eilish song from the barbie movie, stared at the computer for a solid five seconds, then went 'sorry this isn't it' and tapped the computer once to change it to whatcha know bout me by nicki minaj. god. wild. love her dearly.

Thoughts on Minfilia for the character bingo, please?
Okay. So.
I really thought that I didn't have that many thoughts about Minfilia but they're welling up as I'm writing this? I moreso have thoughts on her ARR depiction [and what little I know of 1.0], and all that we hear about and witness in ShB. Spoilers about the latter Especially under the cut.
From like, the baseline things that I believe are true about her as a character: She was or still might Be a miner. She's incredibly accomplished in being able to bring together people from all walks of life to work as a Scion. Aaaaaaaand she became a near deified figure on another Shard and had a long line of 'Minfilia's, essentially god-touched individuals that would try their best to help that world in Her name.
That's before even taking into account her role as Thancred's little sister, or how many Titles she carries, or is carried By, within the narrative. And how Minfilia, as an Individual Herself, I feel like we so rarely get to see.
Starting with Minfilia the Scion, I remember being vastly underwhelmed by her character during my first playthrough. I also happened to be rushed through said playthrough to catch up in Stormblood, which absolutely had an effect on that. At the 'dreaded' 100 quests post-ARR, I'd skipped ahead to Heavensward instead and had to sit through a video showing the Bloody Banquet instead of living through any of that myself.
During this NG+ run that I'm currently doing, holy shit this woman has so much riding on her shoulders. I've yet to even reach the Massacre, but still recognize her as a kind and strong figure. Empty platitudes wouldn't keep so many people from diverse backgrounds and reasons for being here to stay, to Fight in whatever way suits them best, for this cause. I'm not sure that I'd say she's the 'heart' of it all, but instead the.. guiding light. The hand helping you along, which then leads into:
Minfilia the Deity [Figure]. More warnings for not knowing much about the Warriors of Darkness yet! But I can say from what I Do know that she was instrumental in the survival of their Shard, and that she's almost a- wellspring of hope. Which further distances her from being an 'individual' in a way, 'Just Some Guy'. She has mantle after mantle placed upon her and we so rarely see her even begin to buckle under that weight. What she does, she does for all. And yet- she is not a part of that sum. She gives and gives to the world and Hydealyn and if she's giving pieces of Herself each time, we as the viewer and the player and the Warrior of Light don't really get to see.. how that had to have affected her?
When you are so selfless that you give Yourself away, piece by piece, with a smile and not a complaint in your mind- I honestly can't fathom living that way. The world was bettered for her multiple sacrifices, and anyone who knew her would recognize her as a hero! And yet.
Which brings me to my last point, I suppose. Minfilia. Just Minfilia, without all of the accolades, where she's not a Scion or a God. And I'm unsure of how I feel about her just yet. I feel like I've caught snippets of her personality and joy while playing through ARR, and have vastly enjoyed screenshotting her conversational tidbits, but I'm almost aching for More. I wanna know her hobbies and what her favorite fabric is and where she likes to grab food! I want to know what the others think of her Before any sacrifices. I want to see her sip tea and enjoy herself.
It's like a push and pull for me, where I'm simultaneously intrigued? Interested? In her and what she stands for and Why she stands for it, while feeling at arms-length distance when it comes to knowing Her. And so I'm hoping that the other shoe will drop and more small things get revealed about her and I can see That Minfilia, in time, too.

I am stuck at two places. One at 2018 MAMA where Tae cried and jk held him. Other GDA 2020 THAT BACKHUG.
Both of the situation felt weird to me. Former because you could see even though jungkook held him it was at a distance with stiff body but still with passion. I believe as taekook ban was not lifted it was out of ordinary for jk to console him. Generally jimin does the job. A lot of ppl take this as estranged relationship between taekook but for me I could see two ppl who wants to be together but cannot. Nobody was consoling tae as everyone was emotional themselves but the way he was crying I sure jk thought enough is enough.Jungkook held tae two times with protective grip. You can also see RM saying something to tae during that hug (it looks like it). Also one factor I think nobody takes into account is jk's jacket. Scrubbing that in anyone's face is quite painful. I believe all of this made this moment beautiful yet weird.
GDA BACKHUG was out of context. I don't know if tae was not felling well but the limited amount of time they did it not made any sense.
Also ppl saying he had no support, well noone did. The only thing I think of as a reason for their BACKHUG was they were testing waters and had to make a statement. I also think members were aware of this beforehand. Being okay with taekook during shooting and behind the scene is one thing but that was a picture of pure intimacy and no one reacted, no one looked at them makes me wonder of its spontaneity.

Ooh, interesting! I agree, there are some things that have always stood out to me about these moments too. It's so funny that you mentioned Jungkook's jacket at MAMA 2018, because I've always thought the same thing! Somehow it makes it seem even more telling that Jungkook didn't just reach out to touch Taehyung's shoulder, or even to hug him, but to literally guide his face down onto his shoulder, despite knowing that physically it could not have been comfortable.
This was one of those moments that really early on intrigued me about Taekook, not just because Jungkook wanted to comfort Tae -- I didn't know enough about any of the members then to even know if that was standard for the group or not -- but because of the way he does it. It struck me as very, let's call it possessive. Presumptive. Proprietary maybe. He literally just grabs him and puts him where he wants him lmao, and then glances out over the audience like he's looking for challenges or something.
I know he was really emotional too, and I'm sure that a lot of the tension in his face is because he was trying to hold himself in check, but something about his expression in that moment has always just struck me. Overall I agree, it's a beautiful but weird little moment. Or big moment, really. Between the fact that it was Taehyung breaking down, Jungkook comforting him, and the way that Jungkook chose to do it -- yeah, all a little out of the ordinary and pretty telling, I think.
As you say, it's similar for the GDA 2020 moment. I'm not sure I'm in the camp of people who think that this specific moment/interaction was planned in advance, but I do think it's very likely that 2020 was the year that Taekook were allowed to start interacting more freely in public and on cam, and that the whole group would have been aware of that change. I think that's why we got such big moments very early in 2020 -- GDA, but also the Grammys red carpet -- because they were, like you said, testing the waters. Seeing what would work, what felt comfortable for them, figuring out where their new boundaries would be.
So whether or not they planned to literally cuddle in the middle of the show, I do think they planned to just be more touchy in general, yes. Maybe they were even nervous about it, or just wanted to do something relatively quick but that would really push the envelope of what they'd been able to do before. We can only guess about those details, but personally I do think some element of that interaction was intended beforehand.

Hi! I hope you're doing well. I will try working on my goodreads account again soon. I already have one but just forgot about it for some reason. But maybe it will help me to remember which books I started and never finished. I probably won't really write reviews or anything though. I didn't really need it cuz I mostly just browse on there and can look up book reviews without it . Then I thought it might pressure me or remind me I'm not reading enough which can be good or bad. I did the same thing with my Letterboxed account and just abandoned it..probably cuz I watch a lot of movies that are whatever to me most of the time or I just forget to update it lol. Anyway I read a snippet of the Starless Sea and am intrigued, although I probably won't get to read it until March at this point. I think it will be ongoing honestly..I know I said I was trying to focus on two books a month but we will see lol since I am always adding other books to my list. Thanks for the triggers of everything I never told you..I'm glad you enjoyed it!
So..I ended up seeing Mean Girls on Sunday. I also saw Wonka. It was kinda last minute but I'm glad I was able to go. I saw Wonka first and thought it was fine. I liked it generally but it also didn't feel like Wonka exactly? Parts of it still did..but I guess maybe I didn't know what to expect. I would've liked more with his chocolate making or the oompa loompa. But the songs were fine..except for Timmy being auto tuned was noticeable but I mostly accepted that. It seems like people like it or it wouldn't still be in theaters. Like the Color Purple unfortunately wasn't even showing at my theater so I don't even know when I'll watch it. My sister and I agreed that we would have liked it more when or if we were younger and it also felt kinda long.
I generally agree with your friends about Mean Girls..which was also just fine for me. I think her singing is fine but it's the same as most people who can just barely get by with singing. The songs are more pop so it kinda makes sense but you're mostly right. I mean..I think she looks the part of Cady and an average girl so maybe that explains it..idk. wasn't expecting much but I am also not as familiar with the musical as others might be. So sometimes I would think..was that changed or is that just something in the musical. Like I couldn't exactly remember how they explain Janis and Reginas fight in the musical so that was one example. There's also more focus on social media/Tiktok stuff that didn't really appeal to me and some songs just didn't translate on screen as much..I think Stupid With Love is the most obvious example which might have been the case anyway even if it's bad. Another one is What's wrong with me. The best ones on screen to me were World Burn, Someone Gets Hurt and I guess Apex Predator. The new song just sounds like a normal pop song to me and Renee says she wrote it but it didn't add anything different so I don't know why they changed it. I don't remember the original song that much but it's probably better than this. To be fair, they tried to get most of the songs to sound like pop songs..like with Rather Be Me or Sexy. At one point watching, I felt like it was almost nothing like Mean Girls, mainly cuz there wasn't that much meanness in the movie at all..like it felt like any generic high school movie. Maybe that makes sense and I'm too familiar with the film..which is not like high school at all. There's also not enough drama to me..idk if it was the actors or just how it was..like the part when Aaron runs out of gets annoyed with her then Janis does too..but like it wasn't a big deal. They also didn't spend a lot of time on her downfall/the bus thing..I don't remember these parts much in the musical either though. They also made Aaron more of the focus of everything Cady did..it felt like. Like a lyric would be about don't you wanna be with Aaron..instead of getting revenge for Janis or something, but could just be the musical. So I guess it was just a weird mix and mostly fine. It didn't exactly disappoint me but i am also not as familiar with the musical. I thought Renee, Jaquel and Auhlili were mostly great though. I don't feel a need to watch it again but its still a fun movie, but I understand the problems most people have with it too. I honestly don't know which movie I liked better cuz both were just okay to me. It's been a few days so maybe I forgot something else and the review isn't perfect. In other musical/Broadway news, I saw that Gatsby is going to Broadway so hopefully they made some changes. Also Corey Cott I guess and I read that Lola from the summer I turned pretty is going to be Eurydice? What do you think? I should watch the summer I turned pretty soon..maybe he is better in that than Mean Girls.
I'm generally not big on any covers and especially Taylor songs so idk! I don't think it would be a specific album, but all of these artists I would like to see.. i'm just not sure about the song. Now that we have Fall Out Boy and Hayley features..it seems like we don't need it. Same with Phoebe on Nothing New. But I could see Paramore doing a song like Haunted honestly. I'm not sure about Fall Out Boy. Somebody pointed out that you were the sunshine of my lifetime is pretty similar to he was Sunshine from Midnight Rain, lyrically at least. Idk how a cover by them would sound though lol. We also said Patrick's voice would be good on I can see you. Noah Kahan could do something from Folklore or Evermore. Idk why Cowboy Like Me comes to mind but we have already heard Marcus Mumford do a full cover of that. I also saw someone recently say Stick Season is the other side of Tis the Damn Season..also just lyrically, but I could see him do a cover of it. I think it makes more sense than Dorothea honestly. There's a song by the band Movements called AMP with the lyrics everybody wants you that makes me think of Gold Rush so a cover by them has crossed my mind before but idk how the high parts would sound lol. Soccer Mommy has already covered a Taylor song which is great..I could see Our Song or Teardrops instead of I'm only me when I'm with you though. TOP is kinda hard..they have different styles but I once joked I could hear him covering ATW10 cuz of the piano. For their other stuff, something from rep like IDSB or maybe Delicate..or even New Years Day cuz they mostly have piano closers. I can hear the 1975 singing Antihero so maybe that? what about you?
Oh wow..well with twenty one pilots, they have different styles and a lot of people recommend to start with their popular stuff first..which is the Blurryface album. But I think Vessel is good cuz it shows how the band mostly is and combines some of their styles. The first song I heard was Holding on to you and is a good example of this. But their first album is mostly just piano and slower songs which other people find boring, but it still has some of my favorite songs on it. People think Trench is the best and cohesive album but it just depends on the music you like. You could always go by my Taylor comparisons too but idk if it will help lol.
