Doc's Best In Goddamn Show Montana State Fair Coconut Cream Pie

As promised, the baked good that did the best, I'll release the recipe. This is one of my favorite pies of all time, hewed into a perfect custard-based pie that won me my first Best in Show rosette in nine years. And pies is even a tough category!

The other shocking thing: This is one of the easiest pies I make. It's very much "don't worry about it." It even tastes better if you make everything but the topping the day before serving.

“Doc, why don’t you use cream of coconut for the custard?” Friend, I tried for years to get that to work, only to find out that cream of coconut just does not bake up as nice as milk and cream, so I use a nice extract and toast the coconut to get the flavors. 

YOU WILL NEED:

A crust (I presume you can either make or buy a crust. I might even have a recipe here on the blog, I can’t remember) 

Pie: 

5 eggs

¾ cup caster/baker’s sugar 

2 cups of whole milk

½ cup half and half (I believe this is called half cream in the UK)

1 tsp vanilla bean paste

1 tsp coconut extract (I like Olivenation or watkins. Also, bear in mind you may need to use more. I do this to taste and the tsp is a guess on my part. Don’t worry, I’ll tell you where to taste in the recipe) 

Pinch salt

1 cup sweetened flaked coconut

Topping:

2 cups heavy cream VERY COLD (can use whipping or double also, but I prefer heavy) 

2 tablespoons jello or jello style pudding mix, coconut 

Powdered/icing sugar (this will be to taste) 

Decoration: Most definitely toasted coconut. I really like Nuts.com’s organic dried coconut chips, but it depends on how flush I’m feeling--I did not use it in this competition. Macadamia nuts are great, dried pineapple, for this competition I used coconut rolls from costco. This is mostly for visual appeal, so be creative. 

Toast your coconut: Put the oven at 350F. Put some parchment down on a baking sheet, and then put your sweetened flaked coconut on the sheet. Don’t forget to put in a bit extra for your topping decoration. Toast for about five minutes, it will probably need a stir and watch it closesy--coconut burns easy. When it’s a nice pale golden, pull it and up the temperature of the oven to 375F. 

Blind bake your crust. If you haven’t done this before, I think it’s easy but admit maybe not everyone will. Roll your crust out into a pie plate, just like you always would, and then cover the bottom with tin foil, and fill with pie weights or beans, or rice--I’m a big fan of using sugar. Whatever you use. Bake it about 15-17 minutes, it should be lightly brown at the edges. Take out the pie weight you used. Bake it about 5 minutes more, just so the bottom gets very lightly toasted. 

Make the filling! Beat your eggs in in a large bowl until they are very well combined but not whipped. Beat in everything but the coconut itself. NOW TASTE IT. Does it taste coconutty enough, or do you want to add a little more extract? Have an easy hand with the stuff, it’s powerful. Mix in the toasted coconut. 

Yeah, I’m serious, that was the whole of the filling instructions. I told you this was ridiculously easy. 

Bake: Pour your filling (carefully) into the pie crust, and cover the edges of your pie crust so it doesn’t burn (I use tin foil, but they do make fancy pie shields). I like to put it on a jelly roll pan so it’s easier for me to take in and out of the oven. You’re going to bake it at 375F for about 30-40 minutes, but the real test is: if you shake it a little, is it set at the sides but with a little wiggle in the center? That’s when it’s done. 

Let it cool totally. 

Topping! Beat your cold cream and pudding mix together, adding the powdered sugar slowly. I start with a quarter cup and work my way up until it’s as sweet as I like. I prefer a harder peak for this, but soft peaks are acceptable if you enjoy that more. Decorat with your topping choices!

cake. cheesecake, black forest, devilfood cake, or even just vanilla. cake with cream cheese icing or the most frothy icing or just a looooot of icing and maybe chocolate chips in either the icing or the cake batter or both. the buttery-est popcorn to the point it leaves a film on your fingertips - it's either gonna get you fat or harden your arteries. potato chips. bread is allegedly fattening, so bread with whatever the fuck tickles your fancy onnit, or even just sleeves of whatever crackers sound the best - saltines, cheese, rice, seaweed, whateverrr, crackers are just little hard breads. i recommend trying different kinds of breads too - pumpernickel is good imo and pairs well with sweet toppings and meats, hardbread is good for gnawing on if you just eat it out of the package and a wonderful thing if you have an oral fixation lmao. pasta is always good for carbs, especially with chicken and alfredo sauce, and i've been warned about rice before for "being starchy, it's going to make you fat" but it fully depends on what you put in it, if you don't add anything fatty... you aren't going to get much bigger. loaded baked potatoes. mashed potatoes dripping with butter, like, i only started really losing weight when i stopped buying potatoes and fries, and i didn't even load them up with butter or grease, so there's gotta be something there. if nothing else a nice warm potato with some butter or taters seasoned with whatever or even scalloped potatoes dripping with buttery milk and onions 🥺 or even a donaire plate (fries, ground beef, tomato, cheese, and donaire sauce (milk, sugar, vinegar to taste)) or a shepherd's pie (ground beef, vegetables under a later of mashed potato covered with cream of mushroom soup or cheese or whatever sounds good and is in reach - tomato soup would probably be niiiice) or the canadian specialty, poutine (fries, gravy, and a loooot of cheese) or hell the old timey classic of meatballs and gravy and french fries

it also helps to get high if you can get some weed. i've been nauseas and blughy but high at the same time and the munchies persisted for better or worse

Potato chips- on it boss

Bread- have been eating it, will probably try to get my friend to bring me a loaf next time they come bc am poor

Pasta- painful to eat, especially in the amounts that I assume would help me gain weight

Potatoes- fucking love em. Been eating them and hopefully can eat enough to not weigh as much as a middle schooler 😭. Baked potatoes with butter and cheese are good as fuck.

Other stuff- food items with stuff I can't or won't eat in the ingredients but may try modified versions

Weed- have a lot more than I need and haven't lit up in a good while, hoping to start smoking regularly both for food reasons and to minimize the dreams I remember because they're getting bad again. Not sure if I can afford to maintain a daily habit so maybe like every 3 or 4 days, sometimes every 2.

i feel like a lot of native asks have come through lately, so here’s mine? in short, i feel conflicted about reconnecting as im more than just a couple of generations separated from my native ancestors.

ive grown up my whole life knowing about my indigenous ancestry and while understanding of the specifics was somewhat limited in the past few years ive managed to learn a lot. however despite all this, i feel as though because my ancestors are so many generations apart from me i don't have the "right" to reconnect? however on the other hand i also feel as though my family has managed to keep many cultural traditions, values, and teachings alive and well in our line. there's a lot of things as to why, from how you're supposed to treat elders, to how to hunt and the honor you owe the animal(s), and even so i have relatives who don't use their birth names but go entirely by nicknames they were given/earned later on, etc. i know blood quantum is made up and such but i feel like/wonder how many generations removed you are from your ancestry has to have some sort of significance? right? i am the first generation out of my family who doesn't live on what is our (forgive me for not knowing the correct term) "traditional homeland", im the first to live in a different state, different areas, etc. i feel like if i don't take the steps to try to get back in contact with our indigenous community then the opportunity may be lost for each generation after me, as im the first who is unlikely to be able to raise children in the community the generations before me had because of where i live now compared to my family. it makes me sad to think that i am potentially leaving behind my ancestors, or choosing a future where i don't remember or honor them and their values but at the same time i can't help but feel like it's unnecessary or unwanted for me to try to reconnect because there are other people who are "more native" who belong more/should have the opportunity over me. i feel like just because i want something doesn't mean i should get to have it? i want to learn more about traditions my family lost and be more in touch with traditional teachings, and arts, and so much more not only just for myself but to be able to pass these things on to my children and truly honor where we came from i just feel conflicted as to whether or not it's my place to (have the opportunity) do so and am looking for some guidance from someone who's been somewhere similar or maybe even the same place? i know that nobody can make any choices for me, but i feel like between you and the community you've built here that could potentially help me somehow- whether it be through everyone's own experiences or just links to places where others have been through something similar and i would be incredibly grateful for that. thank you.

tldr: i worry i am not native enough/too far generationally from my native ancestors to bother reconnecting/be worthy of such an opportunity that i wonder if doing so is something i should even attempt or continue to consider. is there some truth to what i am saying or is it just blood quantum related stuff i should unlearn? are there any other people here who have many generations of separation between them and their indigenous ancestors who would like to weigh in with what they did? etc.

hello there. apart from checking out this blog's reconnecting tag for more advice, remember your culture is yours. it's as simple as that. it's not a pie chart or percentage, it's either something you have by blood or it isn't. your culture is yours because your ancestors are yours and their culture is yours, even with time between you. all those generations mean you have an unbroken ancestoral connection that's complicated, not diluted. adding milk to coffee doesn't mean the coffee isn't there anymore. I can't tell you how to live your life but I like to remind people that blood quantum is a colonial measurement that has nothing useful to say about WHO you are. It was the coloniser's tool. to paraphrase a great saying, the colonisers tools will never dismantle the colonisers house. you will never find reconnection in a paradigm designed for genocide. it's YOUR culture, your community and your family's culture - if you approach your learning and reconnection from a place of treating your initial connection as a fact rather than a fraction, that connection will only become stronger. wishing you all the best! I'm excited for Halloween! It's not too long now, it's just a shame it's not as big in England. I love eating pumpkins though, but the shops only sell carving pumpkins. They're still edible and we still make them into pies and soups, but it'd be nice that I didn't have to go to a farmer's market to get some other species. Halloween is important at least in my house :D ~Shy

We just dress up, well that is Sibby and I, and I buy a bunch of pumpkin flavored stuff, haven't gone out for Halloween in a long while and kids don't come to the apartment complex I live in to trick-or-treat, lots a people who don't celebrate in the complex, I just know me, one of the neighbors, and those who live with Sibby actually still celebrate it.

I'm planning to celebrate this year by making soul cakes. Which from what I remember, don't quote me on this. Soul cakes were traditionally baked as a gift for the spirits of the dead, the soul cake was used an offering to placate any angry ghosts who might be wandering around as the veil grew thin.

Basically an origin to trick-or-treating so to speak and Sibby and I still go by the whole "had to dress up as scary creatures to chase away evil spirits." Thing we heard as kids but as someone who's not rich, as much as I'd love to dress up as Wizardmon I have to live with just buying some liquid eyeliner and hairspray from the dollar store to draw a bunch of stitches on my exposed skin to make it look like I'm basically a ragdoll like Sally from nightmare before Christmas. Can't afford Halloween makeup unfortunately or I'd go hardcore spooky instead of minor spooky.

We don't do sexy Halloween (how you gonna spook the spooks dressed like that?), we do spooky and Sibby is goth soooo kinda gets home decorating things there as well as spooky cups and such.

I have a plastic skeleton hand champagne glass somewhere, tend to use it for sparking cider during hallows eve and the entirety of spooky month.

There's a few different ways to make soul cakes btw, I got a few recipes from a website I can put here if anyone else is interested in making the pastry as well. The buttery ones would be the hardest to make because it calls for saffron which is really really expensive so I put that on the very bottom. So easiest ones are Irish Cakes, Quickie Shortbread Soul Cakes and easiest of all Pie Crust Soul Cakes.

I'm wanting to do the Irish Cakes but I always have trouble getting dough to rise.

Pie Crust Soul Cakes

You'll need:

A refrigerated roll-out pie crust

2 Tbs. melted butter

1 C mixed dried fruit

2 Tbs honey

Roll out the pie crust and cut it into circles. Use the circles to line a tin of muffin cups. Mix the butter, fruit and honey together. Scoop the fruit mixture into the pastry shells, and then bake for 15 minutes at 375 degrees. Allow to cool for about ten minutes before eating.

Quickie Shortbread Soul Cakes

You'll need:

1 stick of butter, softened

4 Tbs sugar

1 1/2 C flour

Cream together the butter and sugar. Use a flour sifter to add the flour to the bowl, and mix until it's smooth. Divide the dough into two parts, and shape each half into a flat circle about half an inch thick. Put them on an ungreased baking sheet (baking stones are really nice for this) and poke lines with the tines of a fork, making eight separate wedges in each cake. Bake for 25 minutes or until light brown at 350 degrees.

Irish Cakes

You'll need:

4 C flour

1 pkt active dry yeast

1 C milk

2 Tbs butter

1/2 tsp each cinnamon & salt

3/4 C sugar

1/2 C lemon zest

1 1/4 C golden raisins

Cream yeast with 1 tsp sugar & 1 tsp milk, let it get frothy. Blend flour, spices, & salt together, then cut in butter. Add the rest of the sugar to the flour mix and blend. Add milk & beaten egg onto the yeast mixture; combine with flour mixture. Beat until stiff.

Fold in raisins and zest, cover with a damp cloth and let rise. Divide in two, place each half in greased 7" round pan. Cover, let rise again for 30 minutes. Bake 1 hour at 400 degrees.

Buttery Soul Cakes

You'll need:

Two sticks butter, softened

3 1/2 C flour, sifted

1 C sugar

1/2 tsp. nutmeg & saffron

1 tsp each cinnamon & allspice

2 eggs

2 tsp malt vinegar

Powdered sugar

Cut the butter into the flour with a large fork. Mix in the sugar, nutmeg, saffron, cinnamon and allspice. Lightly beat eggs, and add to flour mixture. Add malt vinegar. Mix until you have a stiff dough. Knead for a while, then roll out until 1/4" thick. Use a floured glass to cut out 3" circles. Place on greased baking sheet and bake 25 minutes at 350 degrees. Sprinkle with powdered sugar while the cakes are still warm.

But then, I love chips ahoy, as long as I have milk to go along with it 😄 and definitely for brownies, I like the middle the most. Weird thing though is that I can't just eat brownies by itself. haha yeah, when I'm moody like that, I could cry for no reason and I could be very angry even at small stuff. I would say bunch of snarky comment or sarcasms. lol. oh no, I didnt get hit on the nose today, thank god. lol. It happened years ago. I think I was at south lake tahoe at that time in spring season, so it was nice out n we played catch but then i got hit and the fun time turned bloody. good thing it hit my nose, i was worried I lost a teeth or two. lol

I made the same dinner, club sandwich from turkey and ham leftover. but today is the last day. I have a 3 days rule in my fridge food storage. unless it's bbq, i read that bbq meat can stay good 5 or even 7 days in the fridge.

fun fact, I have my weird way to eat ice cream. i like to have it in a small ball or cup n i will try to stir the ice cream until it's kinda melted n start eating it or until it's quite melting and just slurp it / drink it. and if i have it on a cone or popsickle, I bite the ice cream. I put this in my lost in assistance's Y/n's way of eating ice cream. I remember some people in wattpad comment in the part she bites the ice cream "bite the ice cream? who bites ice cream? only psychopath." lol.

i like the original pringles or the bbq or the scorchin hot bbq. for ruffles, i like original and also the sour cream one. ooh i remember, lays used to have the ginger wasabi flavor, i looooove that so much. hahaha. it sucks they dont have it anymore.

"Levi, look here!" You call to him from another stall.

It was your favorite time of year, fall, when the weather cooled down. The outdoor markets were starting back up and it was opening day at your favorite one.

"Look at the size of the peppers, only a dollar!" Somehow produce sales just got you excited.

"They look alright." He says, wondering why they're so cheap.

"We got a good crop right on time this year." The vendor says.

"Let's get some." You say, ready to pull some cash out.

"Gonna go any cheaper?" Levi asks the man behind the table.

"Levi! How much cheaper can they be?" You're a bit embarrassed that he's starting in already. But Levi knows that if it were near the end of the day and there's too much left they always give a better deal.

The vendor laughs though. "Maybe. You know what? You were such good customers last season, if you want to buy in bulk, how about half off? Anything you want today." There really was a lot and he remembered how much you always picked up.

"See?" Levi tells you, kissing your temple, looking at what else there is.

You were convinced Levi could talk anyone into anything, and were happy to use it to your advantage.

Soon your rolling fold up cart is already half full with bell peppers, cucumber, cauliflower, bags of kale and a huge butternut squash that Levi was sure you'd make him cut into, even though he showed you how last time.

He handed the vendor the cash as you thanked him and were already off to another stall. It really was a good deal, not that you needed ten peppers.

You were already haggling over dried fruit and nuts, coming away with eight bags for a decent percentage off, stuffing them in the tote you had.

"I got you hazelnuts and beets." You say, seeing a small smile from Levi. When you weren't looking he rolled his eyes a bit, knowing the vendors must love seeing you coming. But you always made sure to throw in his favorites, and since you didn't come as often as you would like, Levi never minded.

"I'm gonna go to the tea stall. You want the cart?" He asks and you nod.

"What kind of fruit do you want?" You indicate where you're headed next.

"Citrus." As if you didn't know. You kiss his cheek before parting for a little bit.

Levi heads to his favorite tea vendor and sees she has some new stuff this year.

"Hi there Mr Ackerman!" She always tries to remember her returning customers.

He gives a polite hello and soon has overspent on not only his favorites but some new assortments he doesn't remember her having last season. He makes sure to get cinnamon as well, one of your favorites.

Levi passes by someone selling hats, the wide brim straw sun hat with with a purple ribbon catching his eye.

He's pretty sure you've mentioned wanting one, especially on warm days. Picking one up along with some long stemmed sunflowers at the next vendor, he goes to find you.

You're no longer at the fruits, thank goodness, so he goes towards the back.

He stops dead in his tracks after he spots you. In the short time you've been away your hair has been done into one long braid and you're currently modeling a blue and yellow sun dress in another vendors mirror.

You're beautiful in anything, and Levi can hear his heart pounding. Truth be told you could probably wear rags and would still outshine everyone else.

"Levi! You like?" You say, bounding towards him and breaking this thoughts.

He can only nod, reaching to pick up your braid.

"Oh! Some young girls are learning about business and charging five dollars and I wanted to support them. Only took a few minutes. They did so good!"

Levi leans forward to give a quick kiss to your lips, place then hat on your head and holds out the sunflowers.

"This is so great! Thank you." You gush about the things he's gotten you.

You go back to the dress stall to pay and pick up the cart, leaving your other outfit in the tote. Levi takes both the cart and your tote bag, leaving you with the flowers and an extra paper bag you didn't put in the cart.

Levi sees you got the oranges he requested, along with apples, pomegranates, pears and a whole pineapple that, again, you'll probably make him deal with.

You both take a seat for a little while, enjoying warm pastries and agua frescas.

"What's in the bag?" He asks as you've not let go of it yet.

"Your favorite tea vendor? Well, her partner is running a second stall full of products." You pull out the things in the bag.

"It's a tea warming plate." You say as Levi examines it. "Charge it and it'll last for days. Now when you get busy with work it'll always be warm."

"Why don't I already have one of these?" He wonders.

You shrug and dive back into the bag. "Well, now you do. And also, Bath Brew Pockets, and socks."

Levi stares at what surely are gag gifts. "You mean, I can bathe in tea?"

"Or we, unless you want it all to yourself." You then hold up the socks. His black pair with pink writing reads 'If You Can Read This' on one and 'Bring Me Tea' on the other. Your pink pair with black writing reads 'If You Can Read This' and 'Get Your Own.'

Levi chuckles. "These are ridiculous."

You grin. "Well yeah. You gonna use everything?"

"Of course." He would always love everything you picked.

After finishing your snack it's on to grab multiple varieties of honey, apricot and also cherry jam, two loaves of fresh bread and some muffins from your favorite bakery stall, a focaccia and a dozen rolls from another one, and a two pound block of feta, which Levi says you don't need, but in the tote it goes.

You can't help but want the hummingbird mosaic wind chime, and Levi agrees if you promise to put it up, and not store it away. He then goes for yet another plush throw blanket for you to cozy up together under while you pretend there's room for coconut bowls with matching utensils in your cabinets.

It's soon clear that your tote, cart, and both yours and Levis hands are full.

"I think that's all we can manage, love." He tells you.

You know he's right but think there's something you're missing. You could pass on the chocolates this time, but there's something else.

"Oh, what about the orange juice? It's always so good!" You couldn't leave without that.

"Right." He sighs lightly. No use reminding you of all the actual oranges you just bought.

Balancing another bag on the carts handle he tells you to wait for him and is soon back with a gallon of fresh squeezed orange juice.

"Yay!" You are happy to see the new bag.

You start back with all your items and suddenly gasp, remembering one more thing.

"No, I'm sorry, there's no more hands." Levi says, trying to guide you forward with just his knee.

"But the soaps!"

"Yes and the candles and the olive oils and the pies and the goat milk." Levi lists off some random things you'll probably want next time you come. "I mean, we have to get through all this first."

"The pies." You frown at what you missed, but there really is a lot of food.

You get to the car and load everything in, settling into the passenger seat for the ride home.

"How about we bake our own pie with the stuff we have? We can always come next week." He says, taking your hand in his. You usually only came once a month during the season since you always bought so much, but there were exceptions. Besides, there were things he'd forgotten about, too.

You look at the sunflowers you're holding in front of you. It's been a lovely outdoor morning with the man who holds your heart. "What kind of pie?" Everyday with him was a good day.

He looks over and smiles, bringing your hand to his lips. "Anything you want, angel. But first, we nap."

You look back and return his smile, wondering if Levi knows how happy he makes you, and hoping you do the same for him.

Silently, he's thinking the same about you.

an- In honor of my favorite outdoor market that just opened for the season! I'll mention again that domestic fluff with Levi in everyday life is my favorite thing. And pairing him and reader with food haha.

Haha thanks even though I took very little part in that whole thing I absolutely agree with all the points made.

And yeah I do agree with that to some extent. I do believe that regardless of the true nature of their relationship at this point she does/is benefitting from it more than Harry is (although that's not to say that he hasn't/won't but he didn't/doesn't need the publicity that way if that makes sense). At the end of the day though the issue stems from the fact that so many discussions surrounding their relationship are baked into a misogyny pie and topped with "Harry's just a little boy" whipped cream. Neither of the people in the relationship are helpless and even if the relationship benefits her more in the long run it's not like he is unable to consent to this he is a big boy nay a grown man and understands the weight that his decisions have. The narrative is still spun though that she's like some evil wicked witch that's lead him along and is holding blackmail material against him and therefore holding him hostage while she milks him for all he's worth which like.....how did we get here.

People always have (and I fear always will) make assumptions about the true nature behind his relationships and so many of them make it seem like he's helpless or they demonize the woman always for taking him away and its just tiring at this point. We've seen this happen at least since Taylor from what I can remember and people still like to use that as an example of true pr relationship and act as if two incredibly famous people would not feel overwhelmed and pressured enough to leave their date spot when getting hounded by fans and paparazzi. I mean he's even spoken on that before where he said that he truly just wanted it to be a normal date and yet people say he's being paid to say that or something (as if they aren't using his lack of words on Olivia to prove the same thing). (Sidenote: I've seen theories about Taylor holding his sexuality over him during that time, double bearding narratives and all other kinds of nonsense in my times around the sun and like...don't you all have jobs or something wtf)

Anyways I've rambled on too long and gone off topic but yeah I hope that makes sense

"Happy Old OC Revamping Day!"

Res bashes the door open and dropped a load of old story scribbles at Mystrei's desk. The owner of that space doesn't look too happy—well, WHO would be happy if their clean desk is suddenly filled with ages-old abandoned assignments?

"That's just a not-important 'special day' you made after seeing an old post on Facebook."

"Oh, come on, help me with this particular thing."

Res shoves a very childish drawing to her witchy counterpart.

"...This?"

"Yes, this."

"God, you were AWFUL."

"I was twelve. I was awful in both drawing and making stories as everything was so cliched back then, thanks to my naivety and everything I watched."

"Okay, okay, I understand."

Mystrei looks at the drawing and makes a somewhat dejected face.

"Uhh... is this going to be the first 'draft nobody wants to see'...?"

Okay, that thing is found amongst my old documents and shows four female protagonists. The title is Friends Forever—an innocent title indeed for someone like me—and looking at the picture, it implies that this is the second season.

...I don't even remember how the first season was like, apart from the main character being a tomboyish girl with short hair and glasses, whose name starts with an 'E'. Good, Res, yet another one of your self-based (and thus, biased) character.

Anyway, back to the so-called 'Friends Forever 2'. I'll be revamping the story and character backgrounds, but the initial happy friendship element is still there. No betrayal angst like some other stories.

First off, regarding the idea. I tend to base my characters off people I meet in real life (e.g. friends, family, classmates), and this was no exception. Furthermore, the design is similar to my another series, Team NQ (I'll post about them later), so I'm going to have an entirely different set of cast here—despite both series having the same people as character bases—that goes with the story's premise. Also, this story was made before my friendship ideals became dark crap, hence the innocent-sounding title. I’m planning to change the title, too. One alternate title idea is “Janji Suci” (which means ‘sacred oath’) to give the story an Indonesian feel and make the friendship concept more like "secured by a promise” of some sort, but I don’t think it fits for a team of elementary/junior high students—yeah, the characters are THAT young—as they don’t yet fully understand the concept of loyalty. Besides, the term sacred oath itself reminds me more to marriages.

Now, the characters. I decided to retain most of the names.

Left to right :

Ismi (10 y.o.) - I never know where this name comes from, it’s not too common in Indonesia but not rare either. Ismi here is described as “kind and stylish”, and her image colour is orange. She is a pure cinnamon roll with a spectrum of fresh and bright colours in her fashion. She loves playing with Erlyn’s pocket dolls and learning.

Putri Kartika (11 y.o.) - to be honest, I wanted to change her name but then I was like “nah, this name is good”. It’s one of the most common names in Indonesia, and it means ‘princess’, and Kartika, if I’m not mistaken, means ‘cluster of stars’ in Javanese. Putri is “quiet and happy” with blue as her image colour, representing her calm demeanor. She is a devout Muslim and a peace seeker, hence her all-blue outfit. She has a crescent moon brooch which she uses to fasten her veil. Unbeknownst to her, said brooch actually has another function.

Erlyn (7 y.o.) - it’s actually Elin, but I changed it a bit to avoid confusion with a relative’s name. Erlyn is “noisy and active” with her image colour being pink. She loves watching popular stuff like TV dramas, romance movies, and idol concerts, and collecting/playing with her pocket dolls. She also collects teddy bears and is a huge fan of Resverse Tales Collection, although she never fully understands the stories (said stories are absurd to an extent anyway).

Venetia (9 y.o.) - actually Venesia, but changing one letter doesn’t really change the intended meaning of the name, right? Besides, her name here is spelled as “Ve-ne-tcha” instead of “Ve-ne-tia”. Okay, so Venetia is “friendly and cute” whose image colour is yellow. She loves romance and heart symbols, and by far the most fashionable out of the four. Her blazer has a “round rose” emblem emblazoned on its back, implying her connection with an alien race in yet another of my story. She is usually seen drinking a cold bottled milk.

The mysterious ‘E’ girl will be posted later as I still need more information regarding her and the ‘season 1′. For your information though, she is related to Erlyn and the team’s mentor figure of some sort. And no, they aren’t attending the same school; instead, they are classmates in an English course.
