#so far in my sporadic picking away at various manga series i feel i have the weirdest reader relationships with JJBA and Attack on Titan #when reading JJBA i am not really that invested in the characters or even whats happening to them and yet i still never decide to dnf it #and i dont even know what it is that keeps me reading except that its just very unique i suppose? #such an odd combo of different things that somehow manages to eventually have its own sorta cohesive logic and charm #also the art is just fun. its ornate and goofy and macho and flamboyant and gross #but as soon as i put it down i stop thinking about it too #and dont feel like picking it up again for at least several more days #with attack on titan i found the art style mostly really bad at first ngl #it reminded me of awkward drawings a high schooler would make like the inconsistentness #of like there are good action poses here but the people also look weird ugly bland and stiff and the backgrounds are often so empty #idk i was feeling pretty blah about it but something about how starkly straight-forward the story is was interesting to me #where its literally exactly what you heard its just #theres a bunch of humanoid giants attacking our city #and we have to stop them. that's it #and also the awkwardness of the art style i find works extremely well when it comes to the titans #like they are genuinely creepy to me. and they do actually feel massive the way theyre drawn. and the mystery around them interests me too #anyways im like 60% through part 1 of jojo(also read most of part 4 a few years ago) and only on vol 3 of AoT #but yeah those are the 2 series i have the most mixed feelings about so far #wouldnt say i love or hate either of them but still also continue to want to find out more #13readsmanga #p

he's a gamer.. me thinks. he looks like he plays league in his free time. and minecraft, occasionally. his diamond luck is insame, you'd think he's using x-ray. probably got banned at a server for finding diamonds within 15 minutes of joining.

natsume's the type to rage in bedwars LMAO. he played with tsumugi once and he almost murdered him for letting the bed get destroyed after looking away for 2 minutes. he's so good at the game though, it's scary. (tryhard!)

like leo, he's also your #1 subscriber! he donates every single time, even if you tell him not to and that his support is enough. natsume doesn’t listen, because it's… natsume sakasaki, do you really think he'd listen? didn't think so. he definitely also got tsumugi and wataru to donate without even meaning to.

i (now) use arch btw

after a few months of not posting anything here, i finally managed to get arch working with awesomewm :)

initially when i tried a few months back, it was going fine until i could no longer hear audio for some reason lol. after searching for a solution i eventually gave up and retreated back to mint for the time being. after getting my infamous itch to just nuke everything and start again, i reinstalled arch and tried once again and i gotta say, its been going REALLY well.

the first time i ever attempted an install of arch (before archinstall was a thing) i somehow forgot to install a network manager and therefore couldnt really do much else. i really enjoyed setting it all up manually, but the fact that in the end i didnt really have it working was very annoying. the next time around, archinstall was there to back me up and its made everything so much easier!!! for me its broken down the barrier of entry significantly. i simply chose the desktop setup i wanted, and it chose the relevant packages. i went with a window manager rather than a full desktop environment this time around, more specifically awesomeWM. i wanted to go with something more bare-bones and configure it from the ground up so i could learn what sort of packages go into a full de. in addition people often talk about how much more efficient they find using wms, both productivity and resource wise. i see why! my entire operating system on boot uses like <500mb of ram, which is baffling that its possible. plus, the use of shortcuts of navigating around has been great.

i ended up going with awesome as nvidia has been absolutely the biggest issue with this whole process. for some reason my graphics card just HATES wayland which eliminates some options off the bat. ive had soo many issues in the past with it, so trying to use xorg is probably my best bet going forward and luckily its still a very popular choice, no shortage of resources for me. i did have a few issues setting it up on arch, as i wasnt really familiar with how to configure it at first but getting nvidia-settings it made it much easier for me for now.

pacman was an interesting change to get used to. discovering that it didnt have some packages that i have usually was interesting, but then shortly i discovered the aur and yay. it opened me up to a wide range of new packages that werent even on some of the package managers i had tried previously, like dnf and apt. in contrast to those, i found pacman and now yay much easier and incredibly fast to use. there just becomes more and more reasons to use arch every time i open it haha.

one of the things i havent got around to choosing is a file manager. having to navigate my files entirely by terminal has helped build the muscle memory of commands i didnt know before. plus may even be faster than i found previously? i may get around to setting up some aliases if i feel like i could shorten some tasks. using cli packages in terminal over graphical packages has helped me to learn git some more as well, which im sure will be useful for me in the years to come. in regards to the terminal too, im looking into switching to zsh instead of bash which i currently dont know what the difference is between shells or what they do exactly but ill find out.

i have only been using arch consistently for a few days at this point. and awesome is still pretty ugly, so the next task for me is to spice it up a bit with some theming. i dont have much, if any, experience with lua, which apparently is the language that awesome uses to write its dotfiles (also took me a minute to learn what dotfiles actually were). the last time i used lua was probably in roblox studio at like the age of 10 or something, so its been a while. i have a few articles and videos lined up that i need to watch for an introduction, so i already have an idea of where to start. with that said however, if anyone has any advice or tips send them my way!

now the obvious question for myself after this is what project am i actually going to do next? i want to actually develop software but i find it extremely intimidating. so there are a couple options for me going forward. one of the big ideas in my mind is developing a longer form game project in godot. i have developed smaller projects in the past to get used to the engine, but i want to try my hand at doing something over the course of multiple weeks. i have poor time management skills and tend to get sidetracked with other projects but i really want something i can chip away at every day for a few hours. and i think a game could be just that! plus, it gives me a creative outlet as well. i can make the music and art for that and combine a few hobbies into one.

arch & awesome has been definitely an interesting change to get used to, but it has been so fun! learning how to do everything myself has been what i have been craving and every day i regret abandoning windows less and less. i cannot sing the praises of linux and its community enough for scratching my brain in the right places! at some point i want to make a post detailing my full journey with linux, so keep an eye or two out for that.

ctommy + 😇 a headcanon about their religion/lack thereof (or any character if you dont wanna do dsmp/ctommy)

oh my god yes oh a hundred percent yes, i can talk about ctommy religion (and dsmp religion in general) FOR DAYS!!!!

okay so to start a bit of backstory, about me and my ideas around dsmp religion, in january i started writing a pre SMP, cannon? what cannon?, c!dnf religion fic..... theres no punchline that is just something that i wrote in january 2022. i didnt finish it, nor did i get a chapter done enough to publish but i planned out the whole fic and i spent HOURS thinking about dsmp religion, and yes that included tommy.

so very early on i established what religion on the smp looked like, it was modeled after the denomination i grew up in in terms of "progressiveness" aka matching the smps established homonormativity, as well as the ideals that i grew up with being normal in terms of a "good congregation" (emphasis on children, and teaching them, it sounds weird its not weird it links back to jesus and his preachings about the importance of children in congregations) MIXED with a more anglican british/english canadian countryside parrish cerca 1910 in terms of visuals and community. the parish being the center of the social scene, hosting both religious as well as legal and social functions, and a widdle bit of catholicism to add a little bit of spice, i also established that my version of church prime worshiped dreamDX (it links back to the plotline, basically george was having dreams where he was being confronted by dxd to "save prime" from eret, who was under a funky herobrine spell and was trying to end life as they knew it)

alright! i think that a good primer on my idea of dsmp religion, basically its progressive protestant christianity but with a rural and nostalgic feeling in terms of what church was.

okay so here in all of its glory is what i wrote for ctommy in my notes doc for this now abandoned fic....

Tommy is like 8 and is a karen of the primble, he is church primes youngest and most prolific devotees, he can often be found around in the holy-land with tubbo or ranboo making daisy chains or spying on Eret and her herobrine shenanigans.

because it was precanon i aged down tommy tubbo and ran, but i knew that i needed one of them to be very devote to make the social and political ramifications of the plot (dream was gonna be all torn up about his faith when george opened upto him about his dream of dxd) seem real, its very hard for adult religious characters to come across as genuine without becoming cardboard standees of XYZ religion stereotypes, but with kids (imho) you can make them and their beliefs more believable and translatable to an audience without falling into these stereotypes.

of the small amount of the fic that i wrote it actualy featured more tubbo then tommy (tubbo runs into foolish and gets a bump on the head before church and it hurts not just because foolish is made of gold but because tubbo has little baby horn buds growing in, this scene just sets up doctor ponk for background samponk/foolponk/samfoolish, oh and yeah foolish is the decon, and dream is the minister) but i did give tommy tiny bit of characterization writing simply

“It made a clanging noise” Tommy the most devoted of the three adds.*

*the thing that made a clanging noise was tubbo running into foolish

after dream takes a look at tubbo's injury this little bit happens (and its my favortie part that i actualy wrote for the fic)

...Tubbo yells neatly knocking me over with how quickly he grabs my hand and stands up before grabbing he turns towards Tommy and Ranboo, grabbing one of each of their hands and begins running full speed towards the baptismal font, the three of cupping their hands underneath the flowing water before bringing it up to their mouths and splashing any remaining water on each other...

JJUST JUST FUCKING AWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOOK AT THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!! DFGUOCDYVUPQA

okay and the last part that got written that meantioned tommy was this small bit of him (aged like 7ish) interacting with little baby fundy flora who is two (yes fundy is a girl, me likey like trans fundy headcanons and also itsmybrolbo.png, also fundy being two and simultaneously acticling 5ish is explained about by him being a strange hybrids (also wilbur makes a joke about fish sex in his three minute conversation with dream))

“Okay!” And with that Flora is off running towards the baptismal font where Tommy, Tubbo and Ranboo have sat down and started playing with marbles.

so yeah, all this to say i think ctommy is a very religious character, his devotion to prime/dxd is based on his desire for spiritual "wealth" that is promised through "primes" something that i interpret to be something that the character feels like a warmth in the heart that they get if they prey enough.however something that i touch on in the epilogue (the epilogue is the walls being put up around lmanbeyrg) tommy grows to think of primes not as something that you get when you prey, but as something that you get when yo do something that makes a scene, like killing someone, or setting shit on fire, he grows more and more restless and eventually stop praying taking to chaos to get primes.

anyways, writing thi9s huge long post about ctommy and dsmp religion is making me want to cannibalize this wip more then i already did, possibly release a few bits like the entire scene of tubbo running into foolish, or the part about wilbur and fundy (also its fridgebur!!! hes fridgebur, i love fridgebur so much) so i think reworking this wip, and writing out dream is moving very quickly up my todo list.

I only ever really Sapnap characterized as the “straight one” in dnf fic which is usually used to contrast how someone reacts to their best friend versus how someone reacts to someone they’re attracted to. That makes sense to me even if it mischaracterizes Sapnap’s relationship with dnf. I’ve read one too many fics where dnf are hitting on each other or flirting or direct it teasingly to Sapnap and have his reaction be running for the hills. Like Sapnap hasn’t leaned into every gay joke or flirtation made by his friends, but he’s got to be the “straight one” because that’s how the straights react and the whole poor Sapnap save him thing. It does serve the purpose of getting Sapnap away, which I do like because I prefer a dnf fic to be just about them and saves me the trouble of having to read people trying and write a character I like, but they don’t care for.

i do agree that the biggest perpetrator of super straight and like... man's man sapnap is dnfers because of this like ur so right and. as someone who reads a lot of dnf i wish they just wouldnt even mention him lmaoooooo reading whatever reason theyve made up to get him out of the house is amusing in an annoying way. i like dnf fics where theyre just alone in the house and no one asks questions why. i read dnf for dnf not for sapnap to be there especially if they're gonna characterize him the way they do. but thats dnfers and they do things their way and thats fine i just ignore it im not gonna police anyone's writing i'm just gonna talk about it on my little blog with like 12 followers and hope no one reads it...

my biggest issue with it and where i saw it a lot in the older days (late 2020 through 2021 especially but it went beyond that too) in a way that really grinded my gears was with this like. one specific breed of karlnap. i used to ship karlnap and LOVED karlnap especially during their initial meetups. im a dnkn shipper til i die there's no reason for me to dislike them. but i just couldnt stop finding myself reading these fics that were just so strange. hyper-masculine sapnap with ditsy effeminate karl in this very very binary way that i just couldn't compute. it not only disagreed with my personal opinions but it would develop into what i saw as a slightly off-putting lack of chemistry and was just really unenjoyable for me to read. it read like m/f to me which is fine but when im looking for mlm fic i want to read mlm. this goes back to wanting queer dynamics in representation of queer relationships (note: i'm using the word representation VERY loosely. im not implying fanfiction is anything close to actual representation). it was just so weird

it's kind of funny because i realized this in a very roundabout way. a friend of mine from outside the fandom wrote and gifted to me a karlnap fic based on the karlnap they had read and it was like the perfect highlight of the dynamics in the ship that bothered me... i loved the fic, still love my friend for writing it, but it really pointed out that the characterization of those two was just so set in stone in those days and i read it but i didn't like it in the long run or as inspiration for my own writing. the writing was incredible, the quality of it was great and it popped off it was amazing. my issue was with the guts of it, yknow? the internal stuff.

that's one of the main reasons i started writing karl differently than i used to (remember when i used to write karlnap? subbottom karl in MY christian minecraft server?) and focussing on kwtnf because i was mad about the sapnap characterization but didnt watch him solo enough to focus on him... then i hyperfixated onto karl and went fucking hog wild with the idea of him and his character in my head. it obviously didnt do anything i dont have any impact on other people but it made me feel better lol

I totally agree with you anon, it is rather delusional to think that -especially considering when there is barely anything there to support it in the first place - at best I'd compare them to michael and gavin from roosterteeth, or shane and ryan from buzzfeed unsolved you can tell DNF isn't actually seriously a romantic relationship, while dream and george are close they more fit a platonic sense, their sexual jokes with each other are very in your face and not subtle, to indicate clearly to the audience its a joke, how they act on camera is purely theatrical and while they do hold deep affections for each other the only existing indication for it possibly being romantic is their pandering jokes platonic relationships are characterized by their lack of sexual charge, due to how comfortable dream and george with sharing their sexual jokes with us, that indicates there is no heat to them in the first place because it would be embarrassing and intimate otherwise, the things we see don't hold much weight to them due to precisely the fact that we even see them we cant map out how Dream and George are like in private with each other, and the things we do see the edges of are easily something that can be platonic, like the 10 hour phone calls, I know michael and gavin used to spend all their time afterwork together getting drunk they were inseparable, and shane and ryan also mention how they spend a lot of hours just talking to each other, as such to assume its romantic just because George feels comfortable showering while on call with dream is ignorant, intimacy does not equal romance another point is that romantic relationships tend to be unstable, George and Dream have a deep foundation built on trust that is characteristic of platonic relationships if we see dan and phil as an example that is often compared to DNF, you'll note that they had a lot of rocky periods due to being shipped mirroring the reality of their emotions - DNF dont seem to particularly have that and plan to tie a lot of their assets and their future together, this isnt to say romantic relationships cant have this either but there is more rockyness to them at first due to the various stigmas attached ---------------------------- This has been an inverse exploration on "Dnf Are Dating" stance, each point I explore is a character of actual platonic relationships from the two examples I listed and from what I've seen argued towards platonic DNF, but its supposed to highlight why dnf are dating. Precisely because someone who actually follows them can easily debunk each point with 20 examples of otherwise, if you find yourself agreeing with any of the points I mentioned then you might not actually follow DNF closely or know much about them. the point of this post is to highlight nuance and how anyone can write and argument for platonic DNF because its all reduction, you aren't adding to what exists currently in their relationship, you are reducing from it, and when I say "reducing" I do not imply that platonic is lesser, I mean it exactly as I say it There are different things going on to dnf, and you just cut away at the excess that you either cant see or cant explain and thus it can easily fit into your perceptions on what platonic can be. and honestly? I think that is very rude to do to actual platonic relationships, I truly cherish michael and gavin/ ryan and shanes friendships and even though I do sometimes ship them romantically watching them growing up has shown me what healthy intimacy in a close relationship looks like and how I shouldn't fear it or equate it to romance, and how love is flexible, and there is no "lesser love" or "better love" there is only love, and the actions you choose to show it with Platonic relationships are DIFFERENT and people are trying to shove a square into a triangle, and they cant wrap their head around it, because they lack the information, they cut away at the square.

holy fuck you NEED to read this. grumpy grumpy biggest grump that ever grumpied and he's absolutely delicious and soooooooo babygirl. Rip is going to steal your heart. he's just so 😭 there are moments in the book that unfortunately changed my whole world I will never be the same after. @shamevillain and I discuss often.

2. Get a Life, Chloe Brown

this one surprised me so much because of how heartfelt and honest it was while simultaneously being so hot and smutty. the chronic illness rep 🥺🫶 filled with a lot of vulnerable moments and the fear of opening yourself up to people while being closed off to your own self for so long

3. Mile High

IF YOU DONT READ THIS RIGHT NOW IM GOING TO DEACTIVATE!!!!! this is an either you dnf or you love it book- especially if you look at the goodreads reviews. this book healed a huge part in me– someone who was always bigger and never desired, never wanted, never loved. I adored the characters and Zanders🫶 ugh he's just to die for. a hockey romance if it's your sort of thing!

4. Games with the Orc

my first book with an orc and will certainly not be my last. this was so hot. so so hot. and there was a lot of romance and sweet feels in this I was so pleasantly surprised!

I have read a few other Kathryn Moon books this year including the Lola and the Millionaires series (Book 1 and Book 2) which is set in the Omegaverse and 🥴🥴🥴 read all three! she just gets it 🤤

5. A Court of Mist and Fury

I am on a huge fucking Sarah J Maas kick thank you very much @fandoms-writings and I devoured the ACOTAR series but this book!!!!!! this damn book is a lifeline! it is my comfort book now. I hold it in my heart so preciously. Rhysand🥺🥺 he is my whole heart

6. Fourth Wing

this was my first ever romantasy book and it opened me up to a new genre I enjoy oh so much! I adored this book. XADEN is 😵‍💫😵‍💫 but honestly I really loved the dragons <3

hey i’m sorry you got such an aggressive anon. i completely agree with your response to them though, people do often have a tendency to pick who is the “man” and who is the “woman” in dnf and a lot of people especially in fanart depict george as overly feminine.

this would be fine because like you said being a man doesnt mean men have to be masculine or cannot be feminine etc. but the problem is that people depict george as feminine based on his body type and not his personality - based on his own choices of how he presents himself, he is very masculine.

something that bothers me about this whole “not taking dream seriously” thing is that, even after the reddit thread dropped people in the fandom still didnt take him seriously. again and again people refuse to take him seriously. but he has shown sexual attraction to men SO MANY TIMES, but because he’s often shown it towards george people just think its a joke? and dont take it seriously? and its like.... yes george is his best friend but george is also a very attractive man like how is it Weird for dream to be attracted to him? unless they just dont take dream’s queerness seriously?

i think people would be more able to accept his attraction to men if they stopped acting like every time he talks about george’s ass, or his hair, or likes fanart of them that is bordering on suggestive, that it’s a joke. or a bit.

i’m not saying whether dnf is real or not but what i do know for absolute certain is that dream very clearly feels comfortable expressing his queerness through his attraction to george. so to see people constantly undermine that or call it a joke is so strange and it does make me feel a little uncomfortable.
