#ravenous 1999 #REQUESTED OVER A YEAR AGO I SHOULD ADD #i am SO very sorry that this took so long #i wasn't in a ravenous mood when you sent the request and then various Unforeseen Life Circumstances got in my way #and then i procrastinated on getting the blu ray for a bit #but - if it's any consolation - this is a MUCH higher-quality set than you would have gotten if i had made it right away #i'm remaking all my old sets with the blu ray footage - i'm OBSESSED #and it's soooooooooo much easier to work with than the black sa.ils blu rays thank GOODNESS #so lots and lots more goodies to come! #but i wanted to start with this one because i've been meaning to do it for SO long and life just kept getting in the way #i love Martha SO much - i def would have done a set for her eventually request or not #truly i am keeping it together until Cleaves' coat and the purple stole... then i just lose it #like. she loses everyone she loves to imperialist violence and then is forced to leave her home for her own survival #it's so awful #i'm so glad she survives - but it's still absolutely a tragedy (both for her and in general) #kudos to Antonia for insisting on the inclusion of the final shot of her walking out though... it's such a powerful image #in a tragic sense of her being forced off her land with literally only the clothes on her back #and in a hopeful sense that she DOES escape and live on... she isn't devoured by the system #it's just A Lot #i'm have a few more Martha sets planned that i'm really excited about as well! #one of her and Cleaves (in which i will shamelessly reuse a few of these gifs) #and one of... well... AUGH MY BRAIN IS JUST ROTATING DANTE VERGIL AND NERO AROUND I HAVE THINGS TO DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

But like

Dante who resents his demon side because of what happened to his family as a kid and because of what happened to Vergil and to the other people he cares about but doesn't show a shred of his fear and trauma, hiding it behind jokes and cockiness (except in dmc2 which is post Nero Angelo and has him believing he's lost the only family he had left which explains why he's so "not Dante" in that game) but he uses that demon side to fight against them and get his revenge. I don't doubt he's often had the thought "if it wasn't for my father none of this would've happened" or even "if I wasn't part demon the people I care about wouldn't have targets on their backs."

Vergil on the opposite end resents his humanity because of what happened to his family. He believes his humanity is what held him back, it was his weakness, if he had more power he could've stopped the attack and saved his mother. And that becomes his mission, while he still hates demons he believes that gaining more demonic power and becoming more like Sparda will finally make him powerful enough, he won't have that weakness. Yet, no matter what he does somehow Dante is still better. Dante doesn't even want this, why does he always succeed, he gets everything. Mother saved him, she didn't even look for me. It isn't till after Vergil has been separated into V and Urizen that he's forced to deal with his humanity as V. He is forced to go on a personal journey until he combines with Urizen and becomes Vergil again (visions of v is so beautiful at showing this I cry so hard reading those final panels).

And then there's Nero. He spent most of his life completely unaware of the Sparda bloodline. He saw his demon arm as a curse for a long time because he knew the Order would hate him and possibly try to kill him because he has some kind of demonic connection. He was partially right about this, but they were hypocrites and creating their own demons to fight. Now he knows he's a descendant of Sparda, but despite this demon side he knows who he is. He knows what's important to him, and this demonic power can be used to protect the people he loves like Kyrie, she loves him regardless of this demonic side. He's in touch with both his humanity and the demon within, we see this culminate in DMC5. He's that balance between Dante and Vergil, he's truly a successor to Sparda's legacy. And he didn't even know he was a part of it until he was nineteen.

#i could go on and on about these three I had to dump something or I was gonna go insane #i have so many thoughts about Nero being Sparda's successor he's very important to me #Capcom really went “hey what if our fun demon killing game had complex characters” when they made the 3rd game #certain lines character animations and outside media just builds up these characters so much #yes I am procrastinating on work #but i had to get this out or i was gonna go stir crazy #dmc #devil may cry #this stuff just comes back and loops around in my brain like every other year ever since i first got into the series like 6 years ago now

#Having a great time btw I've just been chased across a near sea of miasma by stal riders and more! 10/10 nearly died in a high speed chase #Made it out relatively unscathed which is truly amazing lmao #Spoilers ahead: I have had the funniest time doing the great plateau quest chain. Once I sucked it up and made nice with the creepy statue. #He's(?) been alright. Fair trader. Good deals. I've mostly been terrorising kohga in between absolutely failing to craft working vehicles X #His new boss fights are so much easier than the first one lol. Less fun I'll admit but the music is groovy. You can probably make a #Machine and try and dog fight him but with few exceptions the turning circles are decrepit so I just stuck to mild dodging and shooting him #And running over to hit him some more. Kinda bland for a boss fight I'll say. Could have done with a lot more pizazz. It's kohga come on. #Anyway I do feel kinda bad because apparently he's been stuck down there for however many months/years and I AM kinda cheating with the arm #After the first fight he fled to the gerudo mine and the steward very nicely showed me how to get there but never underestimate #My procrastination because I'd already found it by just exploring so I just teleported. Leviathan falling for Barb first, and man does he fall hard

He starts crushing on the butler when he fixes his cosplay; Levi had ordered it and it showed up damaged and ripped. Barbatos got around to fixing it before Levi could, and he hadn't even asked him to do so

It's just the idea of that Barb is so cool. Like cooler than anyone that Levi knows

He can bake, sew, he knows curses and spells, has wisdom on just about anything and everything--he's the cool type in dating sims. A kuudere, if you will, but even cooler

I don't think Levi has ever had a real crush on someone before. like don't get me wrong he has so many characters from his games and anime that he would do just about anything for, but I don't think he's really harbored those feelings for someone that is not in a computer screen

i like to think levi would then be so obvious about his crush on the butler, while the thinks he's being cool about it. everyone in a five mile radius knows about it lol

and ofc barbatos knows about it. like how could he not? levi isn't exactly secretive about it. the demon started to come over a lot more and try to find excuses to hang out with the butler

Barb humored him tho, because he did find him kinda cute. but more like in a way one would feel towards a sopping wet cat they found on the side of the street. he found it funny that levi was at times even willing to help him with things like baking or tending to the gardens, even when he wasn't good at either of those things

At some point it changed, though. Barbatos isn't sure when, but there is a point where it changes from him humoring Levi for the fun of it and into enjoying the other's company

Like??? As I've discussed Barb starts to genuinely enjoy Lev's company. He starts to laugh and smile more, acting less stoic even when Levi wasn't around

And Levi acting like a high school girl in love??? That's the good shit lol 💞💞 he is so much happier with life and the outside world and even came to terms with Barb being a normie! Because he is willing to learn <33

because!!! because Barb is open to learning about Levi's interests. Levi helps him interact kitchen (even though he isn't the best at baking) and he tends to the garden with him (even though he isn't all that knowledgeable on plants), and seeing as levi indulges in his hobbies, why not enjoy is free time in what levi likes?

Besides, levi just looks so happy when barb offers to play a game or watch an anime with him. and yeah barb fucking sucks ass at the games and has to politely ask levi to stop pausing on each frame of the episode in order to get through it all, but its the quality time together that counts

like again levi isn't able to keep his crush secret at all so i imagine all his brothers (sans lucifer) try and help him out. like they drop heavy hints towards barb about how levi is interested in him while levi fights off the urge to call lotan out of sheer embarrassment in order to get them to stop

mammon so takes credit for those two getting together; levi was late for his first date because asmo wouldnt let him leave until he approved of his outfit; lucifer is holed away in his office, demonous in hand, trying not to think about his brother going out with diavolo's butler

like. i am sure diavolo would support it and would be extremely happy for barbatos that he found someone that makes him happy. but lucifer? he is speaking through gritted teeth of how happy he is for levi. he is definitely fine about this decision because his brother is a grown demon and can make his own decisions but he will be processing his feelings with a bottle or two (or three) of demonous later that night

and just....Levi being so awkward on the first few dates?? i mean im sure he will always be awkward when he's around Barb but like?? poor thing is a mess lmao

idk man something something barb brings such a huge comforting feeling to levi and levi gives barb a breath of fresh air into his life and something something they give strength to each other to leave comfort zones and live for something that makes them happy
