bc every time i see someone say they wanna know more about hobie i have to fight back the urge to infodump in their inbox (shout-out to the person i just did that to! so sorry!). i've seen ppl who read the spiderman 2099 comics doing the same for miguel, too (PLEASE give me a reading list i am so intrigued), and a few for spidernoir (again. list. please) n other spiderpeople. seeing ppl enthusiastically sharing these characters rather than trying to keep them to themselves is so refreshing and oddly comforting, in some way

(that being said, i'm ABSOLUTELY gatekeeping hobie from people he'd delight in knocking the lights out of. it's morally justified gatekeeping, at that point. you don't get to enjoy a character themed around an entire subculture if you're disrespectful of or in direct conflict with the core belief system of said subculture - thems the breaks.)

They said, I wasn't ready, and I was ready for anything, I was ready for heart quenching angst, more backstory stuff, I was fully ready for Rae to die to Sherb (like I theorize, but more on that later) but NOTHING could have prepped me for seeing my streamers name in that notification!

Cora Week 2023 - 3 - Season

It’s Cora Week, everyone, so time to celebrate our favorite doomed puppy clown with some fic!

580 words; trying to make sense of meteorology and hydrology in One Piece will make someone’s brain implode, so unless we get an explanation later on I’m going with the “fuck it” approach; the reasons Cora knows what he does is actually a huge clue into everything about him and it’s, like, good for him

Few things were harsh like a North Blue winter.

Bitter cold whipped through the air and stung at Rosinante’s cheeks. It was different than the cold that seeped in through the nights of his childhood, with the thinner air that was artificially dehumidified when the foggy season settled in. No… this was heavy and moist—it had a quality he could only really describe as solid. Winds were more solid at sea-level and it made him chilled down to his bones and then some. Snow was going to move in soon, a warm air current from the West bringing with it all the moisture it could.

“I don’t get it,” Law grumbled in his side. The teen tried to pull the feathered cloak tighter around them, hoping for more warmth against the frigid air. He shouldn’t’ve come out for Rosinante’s cigarette, but the brat insisted.

“What’s not to get? It’s cold.”

“How do we get rain from the West Blue? I thought the Grand Line was in the way.”

Ah. That. “It’s only mostly in the way. The moisture in the air actually travels over what makes the Calm Belts calm and skips a decent portion of the Grand Line, since it has weird weather to begin with and the Calm Belts are actually one giant blanket of calm insulating Grand Line weather from the Blues and vice versa. We share a lot of our air with the West and our water with the East… though there are exceptions.”

“That’s… weird.” Law clung tighter and Rosinante felt bad. He threw the cigarette nub in the ocean and carried the boy back into the rock niche they were currently hunkered down in. They had provisions enough—it was Law’s health that was the most concerning part. “I don’t like weather—it doesn’t make sense.”

“It makes enough sense as anything in the world,” Rosinante shrugged. He sat down and let the kid crawl into his lap and cuddle close—Law doing so without feeling weird about it was a luxury he knew they were only really afforded by his height. “I can tell you how it works, if you want.”

“No thanks; I’ll stick to medicine. That at least makes sense.”

“Then explain, medically, that thing Buffalo ate and how it doesn’t strangle him to death.” A grunt. “See? Can’t fucking do it, can ya?”

“Devil Fruits are variables anyhow.”

“They are, but there’s more to it than that.” Rosinante braced himself as another gust of wind made it into their little sanctuary; maybe there would be enough driftwood around the pile of rocks they were parked on to sustain a fire for a few days. “Hey… when you’re better, let’s go to the East Blue. It’s warmer there.”

“Cora-san… I doubt we’ll find a hospital in time…”

“Nonsense! If we don’t find one here, we’ll go to the Grand Line! There’s an island that’s full of doctors! It’s cold as balls, and we’ll have to make sure we take the correct path, but they’ll help you if no one in this fucking sea can get their heads out of their asses! Only a little bit more time, Law… you’ll see.”

“Sure…” The teen burrowed further into the feathered cloak and whimpered in pain, hoping that the adult did not hear. Rosinante simply hugged the boy a bit tighter, hoping that he would be wrong about one thing in that the new day would bring at least a break in weather.

Some of the situations you guys write and put your characters in are so freaking brutal and messed up. (I say this with both distraught horror and affection)

Absolutely don't get me wrong, I eagerly await all of the new chapters people write and hungrily gobble them down when they're posted, but oh my god. Sometimes I read stuff and am just aghast.

I took a "what kind of whumper are you" quiz a while back and my result was "lmao you're a caretaker, not a whumper". I sat there was was like "How could that be?! I can whump characters! Come on!

And then I proceeded to realize that half the time I'm so invested in people's whump fics it's because I desperately hope for a happy, comforting ending for these poor, poor fellows and I want to see how they cope with/get out of their situations. Put them through hell, but ohhhh my goodness I just want them to be happy again in the end (or if not happy, then at least some semblance of safe/okay.)

Idk man, late night whump thoughts I'm just shouting into the void. I hope you all keep writing because I really do enjoy your works, even if I'm costantly reading them looking like this:

dont cancel me but i think it really is an odd flavor of parasocial dynamic (sry for the buzzword but its accurate and useful here lol) that britneys fans who professed their love for her and were vocal about wanting her conservatorship to end... were engaging with an idea of this woman that was totally artificial, in large part because of that very conservatorship and the abusive control she was subjected to for years privately and publicly.... the britney you "know" and "love" IS the one who has been stifled.

and i dont mean any of this in the sense of like "i care about this fellow human's wellbeing and something isnt right here" i mean it in the sense of like. if they didnt like her music in the first place, they would neither notice nor care. they heard her music and fell in love with it and by extension HER, britney, and subsequently decided to Stan and follow her every online communication and watch every frame of every shitty fan concert video clip on twitter etc etc etc.

how can you, as a fan, love someone, love the Person and not just their art, when you literally know nothing about them? in a deeper sense than what we typically mean when we talk about public figures. like... in addition to having a public image orchestrated by everyone but herself (managers publicists labels, but also tabloids and news media etc etc), she was being literally censored and monitored by her abusers constantly. you dont know anything about who britney spears is other than some biographical facts...?
