Traffic/Life series roster as dinosaurs
A lot of these don't make for very good hybrids unless you wanna get into freaky territory or full on centaur but... Hope it's a fun scroll nonetheless!
Grian - Novialoidea
Tumblr media
A small birdie... The name also means "New wings" which I find fun. New lives and death games to be part of, new wings to accompany him... (Honorable mention to "Shuvuuia" the "desert bird" who unfortunately is not a pterosaur (doesn't fly)) (Yes we're including pterosaurs! Just using "dinosaur" as a conveient blanket term)
Tango - Aratasaurus / Pyroraptor
Tumblr media
Fire raptor! Either works just fine and Tango as a skittery little raptor is perfect for a creature like him
Scar - Apatosaurus
Tumblr media
"Deceptive Lizard" harkening back to Scar's scamming tendencies. Though I've always liked the idea of him being some larger gentler animal in any hybrid scenario and a long-neck fits the bill well. He can poke his nose into people's conversations easily to start marketing something useless to them and swishes his tail to ward off anyone who's about to stop him
Impulse - Nasutoceratops
Tumblr media
Ren - Regaliceratops
Horns. COOL horns. I don't know what else you want from me ceratopses are just way too awesome. Nasutoceratops is a wicked cool dinosaur for having its horns point so forward much like a bull and I for one can jive with some Impulse bull symbolism. Bulls are often viewed as strong, sturdy and loyal, traits also assigned to Impulse a LOT of the time. But though he IS intensely loyal in many cases (+ Ceratopses are also known for how they defend their own!), and he's not very outward about the following traits, he can get quite petty and bitchy and hold grudges. Still, you don't think of that when you look at him and he seems to agree! Eg him feeling like he should be accepted into Cleo's alliance in 3rd life without actually proving himself when Cleo was rightfully hesitant, at which Impulse more or less rolled his eyes. And him proclaiming "betrayal!" when killed by Bdubs when their alliance was as firm as a rat's tail
(And I feel the need to point this out too just in case: "bulls are also known for their temper" yeah but they're not like that! Bulls like many animals become defensive when exposed to aggravating behavior or movement! Which you could work into Impulse's grudge holding and intense loyalty...? I don't know enough about him sorry but do with that what you will)
Tumblr media
Regaliceratops! Regal!! Crown shaped frill!!! Need I say more?
Gem - Therizinosaurus
Tumblr media
Theris are so bad bitch coated to me and I would love to have one as my wife I mean um I couldn't decide on a less generic specimen so Gem can just be a Theri! A herbivore - often associated with the belief that herbivores are gentle passive creatures, but far from it, especially with Gem! She bares her claws like it's no one's business
Martyn - Stygmoloch
Tumblr media
A Pachy with a tough head and a tendency to bonk people - I think it fits Martyn's tendency to perpetuate drama haha. The Stygmoloch's name though more or less translates to "demon of the styx river", the river of the underworld representing loathing of death. To me this makes sense with all the watcher lore (that I have a hard time understanding but whatever!!) especially with how Martyn became in LL. The watchers themselves don't loathe death (??) of course. They're death games. But someone within the game trying to stay alive and win? Probably loathes the idea of themselves dying. I have no clue what Im saying
Pearl - Carnotaurus
Tumblr media
Ok maybe a hot take not to make her into a pteradon or even a raptor with wing-like features but those just didn't fit that well in my opinion. Rather I wanted her to have some kind of horn motif in place of her wings as visual symbolism for her character. I'd like to imagine her having fine horns, to then have them damaged (one broken off) and simultaneously the other more grown out. Think of how domesticated goats for example have their horns trimmed. I think human hybrids with horns would do the same to keep them from becoming a bother but Pearl would neglect to after her heartbreak in DL. I was heavily considering the Diabloceratops for this, especially because of the name (Devil horned face - good ostracizing material) but Pearl strikes me a lot more as a carnivore and there are only two horned carnivores out there so... Carnotaurus it is haha. And even now I'm making her horns unrealistically big but.... We can suspend some belief
BigB - Oryctodromeus
Tumblr media
"Digging Runner"! I've already talked plenty of why BigB is very rabbit behavior to me and my reasons for assigning this burrowing dinosaur to him are similar. Tldr he is fidgety and cautious yet clever and constantly buries himself underground
Lizzie - Anurognathidae
Tumblr media
I don't even fucking know man it made me think of Lizzie and then I wasn't able to assign anything else to her. Lizzie often claims to be confused and if any dinosaur looks to be in a perpetual state of confusion then its this one. I know a lot of people like to portray Lizzie as a butterfly also so there you go, wings!!! And it's quite cat-like too for those who like to draw her as a cat
Mumbo - Leinkupal
Tumblr media
I really struggled with Mumbo... So many different dinos fit him imo but I figured it should be at least something moderately large (so "Technosaurus" was out of the question lol). Then I rediscovered this dinosaur whose name translates to "vanishing family" and then I thought about LL and SL and how Mumbo went out quickly after the initial death/s and left a very felt absence in someone's alliance and then I became really emotional and forgot what I was doing
Joel - Nodocephalosaurus
Tumblr media
Bdubs - Psittacosaurus
"Knob Headed Lizard"
Joel as an Ankylosaur has been stuck in my head from day one of assigning dinosaurs to the Lifers and I'm frustrated that I can't truly explain why. You'd view an Ankylosaur as a slow and docile creature, even compared to other herbivores, but...
1. Maybe not so much nowadays, I don't know what non-dino nerds think, but I feel like ankylosaurs were largely believed to be HUGE back in the day, much like velociraptors, when in reality they're not that big. The Nodocephalosaurus is especially small even among other ankylosaurs. But, well, we all know what Joel loves to say about himself
2. Joel is or likes to make himself look well in control, just as ankylosaurs have little to worry about as far as predators go. Especially in earlier series where he was content basing mostly by himself. It's always when things get dire and he enters his red life that he becomes very impulsive and erratic like an ankylosaur flipped on its back
3. I know there's a distinction between Traffic Joel and Empires Joel and whatever other Joel but... Even in death games his more charitable traits shine through here and there. He really becomes a dangerous rascal for a large majority of the time and he's very good at it, he's not putting on a mask or anything, but I like to remember that underneath that tough spiky armor is gentleness and caring. His care towards Lizzie and Pearl and Etho etc etc
4. The image of Joel as a hell of a spiky creature is just really fun to me. Yet heavy and blunt ones! And someone once proposed the idea of him having a club tail but having chiselled it to be sharp to mirror him being a menace. (Added benefit also that it's lighter that way haha) To me he's always been an obvious heavy hitter rather than stealthy or particularly creative etc. Him as a carnivore just doesn't work as well for me
Tumblr media
The name bares no fitting meaning but when I look at Bdubs I think of Psittaco. All other species close to it in looks are already ceratopsians and we have like... 3 of those already lol. Im sorry Bdubs you look so stupid
Cleo - Lythronax
Tumblr media
There's so few predators in this roster lol oops, but Cleo deserves to be an apex one! The name translates to "Gore King" because you know, zombies... and you know, Cleo is very king so true. If any of the Lifers should be able to boast rows of razor sharp teeth to gore others it should be ZombieCleo
Scott - Theiophytalia
Tumblr media
I've been really struggling with Scott but how about the dinosaur whose name translates to "Belonging to the garden of Gods". There's only one known specimen of this species and it's an Iguanadon looking dinosaur which I think a lot of people would regard as the most basic, possibly boring type of dinosaur (if it weren't for the Allosaurus which already takes the title of "basic straight white guy") but that further fits Scott imo. It's always been a strong point of appeal to me how MUCH there is to his character that so often goes under the radar or unexplored, and how he's very often portrayed as just some handsome looking guy as opposed to a hybrid etc. He's not at all extravagant yet has mastered his craft of bending fate in his favor, he so often has things perfectly under his control just as he wants them, etc... reflective of the name "Theiophytalia" even if you wouldn't think such a dinosaur to sport one of the most prolific names a dinosaur can have. Also garden something something flower husbans. Basically whatever Bree's take on Scott is lol. I don't wanna blab for 5 paragraphs about that blue mf here but. I hope this makes sense
Jimmy - Yinlong
Tumblr media
I struggled with this mf the most because he's another very hashtag deep character. I felt really bad to remove his bird motifs completely because the canary is so essential to him, but a raptor nor a pteradon fit my image of him at all. I spent so much time looking into various species but it just aint it, but Yinlong was possibly quilled and we can still cover him in feathers, even if he has nothing close to wings haha... BUT ANYWAY. Yinlong is a small kind of pathetic looking dinosaur, and Jimmy definitely isn't small but he'd sure be made to feel that way. Yinlong translates to "Hidden Dragon" however, a rather thought-provoking name for such a dinosaur. Given his character, it sure does feel like there's a soul of a dragon laying dormant somewhere in him, buried by all the self deprecation and curse labels. Honorable mention to Tianyulong, a very similar dinosaur who was named after a museum, but "Tianyu" also translates to peace and content. Something that Jimmy can't yet but deserves to be
Etho - undefined raptor
Already made a loong post about raptor Etho haha which I assume yall have seen since the support towards that post is the only reason I'm even making this post
Skizz - Olorotitan
"Titanic Swan" close enough to an angel right. I feel the whole angel thing is a bit overdone when Skizz can become a malicious little creature every now and then, but swans much like angels do get viewed as beautiful and taken as symbolism of love. Much like Skizz is largely viewed as an angel and often as someone who can do no wrong. But mostly I wanted Skizz to be a hadrosaur/duck-billed dinosaur, because those are dinosaurs known for their speculated vocalizations. And what is Skizz good at? Talking and voicing his love and appreciation? Yeah? Yeah... I'm so sorry Skizz btw this hybrid idea does not work out
Tumblr media
Again, a lot of these don't work so well as hybrids... Some like the long-neck ones I cant imagine to have more than a spiky spine back and a tail, but! These picks aren't based on hybrid potential but rather what I think genuinely fits. I did really work on this all day looking through a bunch of dinosaurs and research haha, but I do love dinosaurs a lot... If you disagree with any hey thats cool! Feel free to give me your opinions if you've any and I hope this was fun to scroll through regardless

my dear friend is distressed about the lack of martyn fics so although i am not clever enough to write martyn inthelittlewood i can offer you some situations i propose he be put in:
- overworked volunteer at an animal shelter. his favorite animal is a giant german shepherd named ren who never leaves him alone. his least favorite animal is a bird named grian who does nothing but imitate human screams and bite.
- amateur comedian. he does stand up every tuesday night and the instant he gets heckled he gets super defensive and starts saying shit like ‘you people don’t understand true comedy’ and ‘you’re just jealous you’re not on my level’ and ‘ren said i’m hilarious screw all of you’
- firefighter. he spends 90% of his shifts chasing down and extinguishing a very handsome man who has the unfortunate habit of setting himself on fire to prove his passion. no one asks him to do this. martyn is very distressed by this. etho and bdubs think it is hysterical that martyn hasnt noticed this only ever happens while he’s on duty.
- renaissance fair employee. i think its obvious where im going with this so instead of the obvious he gets way too into the roleplay and almost commits first degree murder bc someone cut in front of ren in line to get a funnel cake ill talk instead about how there’s a pirate themed booth for some reason at the renaissance fair and martyn hates it bc of the historical inaccuracy and also bc he is convinced joel and etho set his and ren’s tent on fire on purpose.
- burger king employee. there is a mcdonalds across the street and they hate each other’s guts. one day grian breaks in while scar is distracting ren and martyn and smashes their ice cream machine with a baseball bat bc martyn made one too many jokes about their ice cream machine always being broken. martyn’s manager ren takes this personally, dubs himself the burger king, puts on the shitty cardboard crown and declares war on the mcdonalds. by the end of the week every single employee of the burger king and the mcdonalds have been fired and their story is featured on national news.
update: that last one is now written. you’re welcome/i’m so sorry

Hey Martyn! So, I got into your lore because of Grian's Life Series, and now I'm just trying to find some stuff out. Anyways, I understand most of it, though I do have a couple questions.
What actually are LOOT shards/crystals? I know that they're soke aort of corruption in games of sorta, but how do they get there, how to they affect the game, and also how to disable them. It's just something I'm wondering about since I know you have to find the one piece, of treasure, but how does it actually help?
What are CHEST agents? I know that they're something almost as evil as Cruppy, which is really saying something, but what actually are they?
Are there any extra lore bits in Rats SMP that you can't get anywhere else? I just wanna know if I should grit my teeth and watch it sometime, when I'm done catching up on the VODs of Pirates (can't make it to streams for personal reasons, alas).
If you've come up with it, is there any way that the Watchers lore from the Life Series ties into the datastream hopper lore? Those two just seem a little incompatible to me - hopping the datastream, being captured by mysterious godlike entities... Or are they just two separate universes?
Do you plan on posting the New Life streams on your vods channel?
Who in Pirates is p!Martyn closest to in each faction, overall?
Also, I think you may have mentioned it on stream, but did you take the faction quiz and if so, which faction did you get? I kid you not, when I took it I got Kestrels all three times (with changing the answers to stuff that I would still do, but different than first time, I mean). Had to change it up just to see all the different faction descriptions...
Ok, I think that's it. Sorry if I have bad formatting btw, I'm typing this out on phone. Thank you for taking the time to read my questions! Absolutely love your work and lore, while at the same time having the humour some don't. Keep on doing an amazing job. Hope you find your one piece, of treasure.
Have an ice day!
That's something I want to unveil in the next lore drop, so I'm really sorry to say SoonTM but this lore doesn't have all that many secrets atm
2. C.H.E.S.T agents work are avatars controlled by human operators working for C.H.E.S.T and its evil underbelly. They're a known and trusted public computing corporation but the public doesn't know the full extent of their goals and resources
3. I try to be pretty concise and unavoidable when I do my lore stuff, so you should be able to find the Rats segments in this playlist with ease: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3MFbfp1zo8dooC57HqfbizRoc07PdlFQ
4. Maaaaaaybe, people have noticed some parallels / links and all shall be revealed one day for sure, even if I'm like gonna quit doing videos and streaming, I'd just lore dump whatever isn't revealed so it's out there ha
5. A lot of my New Life streams are me just doing the grindy parts of the SMP and with the server being somewhat inactive I want to save the crossover / collab content for the videos - I'm not sure people would flock to a 3 hour vod of me painfully and slowly building an outpost or hollowing out a mountain to make a factory ya know?
6. Kestrels - probably Sausage, with Oli as a close second. Herons - Owen or Water. Owen has an inquisitive gene like Martyn and Water likes all things musical. Nightingales - Ros is so different to Martyn that it makes for some wholesome and chaotic interations, you never know which you'll get. Kites - Bek is basically the only one he's interacted with, he had a little banter on the seas with Kuervo but it was brief
7. I did! I surprisingly got Kestrel, or I guess, not surprisingly huh?

FINAL CABIN PLACEMENTS I DON'T WANT TO EDIT IT AFTER THIS
So many of y'all had so many good ideas (and since a lot of these i came up with without any real reasoning) here's my updated version that i think fits A LOT better
#1 Zeus Cabin: Jimmy, Joel Jimmy: He's a Zeus kid, but everyone somehow forgets about it. Joel: He's competitive and strong. Also, because Jimmy is his half brother through godly parent, i get to make a fun bit about him dating Lizzie. And one of his origins in Afterlife SMP was a thunderborn
#2 Hera Cabin: Scott, Impulse, Ren Scott: Scott's whole thing is loyalty. Hera is the goddess of marriage and is insanely loyal to Zeus. However, I feel like Hera should get at least one affair. So now Scott can use peacocks as weapons. Impulse: According to @dawnfire7 Impulse is known for loyalty, which i did not know. He's also known to hold grudges. Perfect Hera kid. Ren: He's apparently known for loyalty (and i didn't really like his Nike placement anyway)
#3 Poseidon Cabin: XB XB: Something about water temple guardians
#4 Demeter Cabin: Sausage, Shelby, Bdubs, Stress Sausage: This man built Sanctuary in a jungle and has flowers in his hair. He sells wood. There is no other place to put him. Shelby: Mushroom gnome, spooky mangrove witch, powerful storm witch, i need not continue. Bdubs: Moss man. Stress: SHE HAS FLOWERS
#5 Ares Cabin: Martyn, False Martyn: His planet is Mars, which is the roman version of Ares. He ended Limited Life in such a violent way, i can't help it. He was also red for the majority of Secret Life. False: I just feel like False should get to kill people more often.
#6 Athena Cabin: Grian, Pix, Owen, Xisuma Grian: This sums it up pretty well
Tumblr media
Pix: Smart man. Archeologist and definitely a nerd. I wanna see him skipping out on training just so he can read history books. Owen: He likes to explore and discover new things in Pirates. In Rats, he's a tinkerer. In New Life, he's an explorer who wants to study hybrids. In Empires, he's a Llama who's curious about how humans work. Just a very curious character overall. Xisuma: Admin. I'm not elaborating.
#7 Apollo Cabin: Oli, Lyarrah Oli: MUSIC. MAN. Lyarrah: She writes the captions for the hermitcraft recap.
#8 Artemis Cabin: Pearl, Gem Pearl: Y'know, Artemis could've just like... had a kid, even though she took that oath. It wouldn't even have to be with a guy. Gods can change to whatever gender they want. Anyway, Pearl gets to be an Artemis kid because her symbolism is moon, she loves dogs, and will commit murder and hunt at night. Gem: Someone really wanted these girls to be sisters, and I think Gem and pearl should get to hunt at night and be fierce together. Oh, and she's got the whole deer aesthetic.
#9 Hephaestus Cabin: Doc, Mumbo, Tango, Zedaph, Fwhip, Iskall Doc: Redstone Mumbo: Redstone Tango: Redstone Zedaph: Redstone Fwhip: Redstone AND has a red scarf (don't ask me how that's relevant) Iskall: Redstone
#10 Aphrodite Cabin: Keralis, Skizz, Bigb Keralis: Okay, I don't know why, but Keralis gives me the vibes of a very charming person. His voice is nice to listen to, so imagine how useful it'd be if I gave him charm speak. Skizz: Person in the tags said he was really charming and you can't help but love him. I agree. He's here now. Bigb: Smooth talker. Someone (i think it was Scott) said in one of their videos "It's hard to kill him while he's talking". Charmspeak. Ma man, go do chaos.
#11 Hermes Cabin: Scar, Etho, Joe Scar: Trader Scar, scammer extraordinar. Etho: All i must say is Shady-E's. I get "jack-of-all-trades, master of none, often better than master of one" vibes from him. He's funny, he's mischievous, it just works. Joe: Comedy man. Excellent delivery. And, yet again, i look at this man and go "That right there is a multi-talented man with a habit for mischief."
#12 Dionysus Cabin: Joey, Beef, Cub Joey: *points at his season one empires theme* i need not say more Beef: Idk, food. I don't really have a reason. I don't know too much about Beef. Cub: Someone said Cub was really laid back, i liked this idea, he's here now. C'mon, go make ur empire.
#13 Hades Cabin: Zloy Zloy: Zombie man. He writes the Hermitcraft recaps in the dark at 2am with nothing but pure spite.
#14 Iris Cabin: Katherine Katherine: SHE. HAS. COLORS. and also I couldn't put her in Demeter cabin because Shelby is already there and i am NOT excluding Nature Wives from this au
#15 Hypnos Cabin: Wels Wels: @dingdinghq said something about sleeping during S6 and i completely agree
#16 Nemesis Cabin:
#17 Nike Cabin:
#18 Hebe Cabin:
#19 Tyche Cabin: TFC TFC: Man goes mining and gets really lucky. That's it.
#20 Hecate Cabin: Lizzie, Cleo, Jevin Lizzie: Witchy vibes. Also, Arson. Cleo: Arson. She uses her magic for Arson. Jevin: He's a magic slime. Also, Arson. All Hecate kids love Arson.

apparently y'all Are desperate enough for my Lomadia Oc so uh. hope you're in the mood for [checks notes] ~13 paragraphs, half of which is just description!
allow me to introduce Villom!
She doesn't have an actual name or in-universe nickname, I just call her Villom. Because she was originally a Villain Version of Lomadia from a sci-fi world for some comic idea I totally scrapped bc it sucked. Except for Villom!
So basically what if we put Lomadia in space and gave her every problem and no normal coping mechanisms
The base universe is Completely Impossible sci-fi space stuff, involving solar systems being relatively close together and having tons of habitable planets, with star trek 'convergent evolution' making everybody a Weird Human Basically. Part of these choices is that I. Don't actually like sci-fi lol. I don't think its bad I just can't Get Into It, so I did the lazy version. HOWEVER I do also use the fact that its extremely artificial and story-focused as part of the plot so its FINE There IS also magic, but it’s generally less used, as tech is more accessible and less complicated from a user standpoint. That doesn’t mean it isn’t powerful, if you know what to look for. Thats foreshadowing!
Compared to base Lomadia, Villom is.. very immature. She has trouble identifying and controlling emotions, she's quick to anger and holds grudges. She's also more impulsive and tends towards insults and crude jokes. She's actually pretty fun to hang out with as a result, but responsibility is a role she's crushed into, and it never truly fits. She's trying her best ok
Villom starts out her story as a young adult, training to be a pilot. She does some hero shit, but breaks so many rules in the process and gets kicked out. She’s enraged by this betrayal of what was supposed to be her life, and steals a ship to go rogue and try to pursue her dreams anyways. She doesn’t exactly know what she’s doing, though, and eventually a chase causes her to crash on an unfamiliar planet, where she meets Rythian. He’s steampunk now, don’t question it
Anyways, they end up teaming up, and form the first of her crew. Later additions are Martyn, who is a mouse guy who has So Fucking Many People Who Want Him Dead, and Zoeya! Who ended up separated from Fionn following partially the plot of Mushbury, and works as the ship’s engineer. Their ship (that lasts long enough to get a name…) is called the Ask, and Villom occasionally (and jokingly) calls her crew the Answers. (Its called the Ask because originally I gave the characters nicknames based on Norse mythology for Pretentious Reasons, those might come back later)
So everything’s all fine and poggers for a while, with the Ask’s crew causing mischief and undercutting evil empires across the worlds- and then Villom’s home planet is destroyed. And she sees it happen.
See, one of the tropes of sci-fi that bugs me, is how understated the death of an entire planet tends to go. This is the first step of Villom realizing how truly fucked up the world they live in is- and the first step of her wondering why it has to be this way, and how to stop it.
It only gets worse from here.
No matter how many evil empires they topple, no matter how many massive threats they thwart, there’s always another one. And no matter how fast they are, they can’t stop every world-ending crisis. Villom starts learning magic, wondering if theres some kind of solution there. When she doesn’t find one, she just looks harder. Brushing so close with forces she’s alone in experiencing wears on her, compounding with their futile mission.
The breaking point is when Rythian dies. Raiding an enemy ship goes wrong, they’re outnumbered, they’re trying to retreat. Surrenders are not accepted, there.
It’s another thing she sees happen, another thing she was inches away from but unable to stop. And she can’t take it. She can’t take losing another part of her, another of the few things she could call home in this cold void.
She takes some of the things she learned looking where she shouldn’t- and kills the nearest member of the enemy team, trading a life for a life. And part of her soul as tax, of course. Just a small bit, this time. She never tells him. Pretends it was instead an incredibly close call. He probably knows she’s lying, on some level, but he never says it.
Villom is desperate, now. There’s more and more things she’s hiding from her crew, more and more boundaries of safety she’s pushing. She trades one of her eyes for the ability to see the functions of the world itself- maybe it’s a mistake, there’s some gear stuck, and if she fixes it this infinite loop of wars will stop.
There is no mistake. This is how the universe is intended to function.
She can’t give up. Because if she stops, she’s never going to get up again.
Maybe there’s other worlds where it’s better, where it’s safe. Maybe there’s a way to make this world like them.
Maybe there’s a way to leave.
She’s barely human anymore, even though she looks perfectly fine. Her hair is white, her eye replaced, but that’s all. She’s replaced the things she’s traded away. She’s barely even a part of the world, anymore. Unstuck from the threads of it, floating as a constant point, unchanging and undying, snapping back into place when moved.
A lot of universes are visited by a strange woman with white hair, who never stays. Sometimes she’s a savior, or a tyrant, or merely another passerby.
One of them, somewhere, has to have an answer. The way to break the cycle. And Villom will find it- even if she has to take every one of them apart.

Silver Tongue
They weren’t like the others, Their counterparts, Their foils.
The Watchers did simply that- watch. Observe the situations, create new ones, all for Them to receive the pleasure of fascination at the human mind. They viewed the players as toys, Their escaped “friend” the most entertaining of them all.
The Listeners guided. They spoke to those who could hear, forcing the unlucky ones who could hear them to know, as irreversibly as the tide. Their voices guided the Hand, the unavoidable bloodshed that stained his blade.
They were not the others.
They twisted things, relationships, molding them like putty in Their hands with naught but a few words. Their goal was simply to know and use it to shape everything They came in contact with, using the power of voice alone.
They had not chosen Their champion with the others. All of those pesky players, one snatched up by those whose eyes saw all, two taken by those who heard every string in the universe’s instrument, and not one intrigued Them. There wasn’t a fit. No one who could turn things, change them. No one worth spoiling.
They were too isolated. Nobody who could speak the letters that threaded together galaxies, no one who could circle a conversation to the point where anyone involved was at the mercy of their every syllable.
Then came the games, the ones hosted by the Watcher’s escaped protege, the ones with the Hand of the Listeners. They hadn’t expected much of them, simply to hear Their counterparts complain and urge and scream at the events, however they may play out.
It didn’t end that way.
It didn’t end that way, because he caught Their eyes.
A silver tongue, quick and witty and striking fear into the heart of those who heard him, all while feeling as if he were fumbling his words. A threatening presentation, so unlike the person he tried to be, but also exactly as he should exist at any given point. A walking bundle of contradiction, circles upon circles upon circles.
Smart enough to scare the Hand.
Charming enough to have Xelqua at his mercy.
With that, far too many mouths grinned, far too many teeth glistening in the void. The Speakers smiled, and the Speakers spoke.
Scar… we look forward to you joining Us.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
been thinking about the speakers and trying to figure out who fits my mental preconception of them the best, so... Speaker! Scar anyone?
martyn inthelittlewood gave us an inch with the lore and i am FULLY intent on taking it the mile
okk question-
idk if you've already explained it (I don't think you did but again idk)-
why would the watchers create the life series in the first place? It seems like a lot of trouble to monitor so many people and their actions-
hiii anon! thank you for the question :)
I don't want to give any specific details on our Traffic SMP lore plot yet since there will certainly be a long text of some kind (like the one I made for pre-hermitcraft Grian), but I think the most important reasoning lies in Martyn's lore!
there are so many layers in which watchers could be explained, but if we take only Life Series timeline to make things a bit easier, they are, basically, ancient creatures, devourers of emotions. I'm not sure if they can die of hunger, but either way -- it is better to have a lot of food than have none.
as Martyn said, at some point in the past they've discovered that negative emotions taste better than positive ones -- that's why they need all the bloodshed, betrayals and drama.
your question is: why maintain the loop when you can search for food somewhere else? from the perspective above, it starts to look more like a farm of food.
why hunt the prey in the wild when you can have it in one place, endlessly and forever?
also, you can imagine it as a festive table. is it tideous? yes. is it delicious? also yes. does is make it worth it? definetely. considering that watchers only eat, like, two times in a human year (since new seasons drop about that time too), and that the all of the players are in a deep sleep when there's the loop reset, it is not that much of a work to do.
from our point of view, there is a reason why they've captured Grian's friends, but this is a tale I'll tell another time. I'm sorry for not giving the answers right away, I just want it to have the right effect on you all in the global perspective of things. right words, right text pace, all that. you'll get it, I promise you that :)
also, in case you want to have 100% accurate official lore from Martyn, you should watch his content. it's great! I just don't trust myself since there are too many interpretations that we've added to it. my recommendations are in this post right in the end of it!
Okay so @plumadot’s posting about her D&D Traffic AU has made me remember how much I love my Dungeons & Traffic AU & I Must Talk About It Now.
Basically all the characters are in a modern setting, playing a rotating cast D&D game DMed by The Watchers. (I never really decided how that works. Plan was for everything in out of game space be completely mundane except for the floating purple eye behind the DM screen lol.)
But yeah! So I picked classes & heritages that the characters would pick themselves based on play styles & preferences. &, uh, here they are!
Bdubs: Firbolg, Light Domain Cleric of Helios
Of course he’s a light cleric. Of course his god is literally the god of the Sun. This man does not fuck with the night & darkness At All. (Also he wanted to be tall lol.)
BigB: (???), (???)
Okay, gonna be honest, BigB is the last one I need to make decisions for ‘cause I feel I have too many knowledge gaps about him to figure this out. Was thinking Paladin maybe??? But I will totes take input, please help me here. Only restrictions: I’d prefer if he doesn’t double up on heritage or subclass with anyone.
Cleo: Reborn, Circle of Wildfire Druid
Cleo’s gotta be a zombie, so Reborn is perfect. & who can deny Cleo the opportunity to have a skill set based entirely around setting shit on fire?
Etho: Shadar-Kai, Way of the Shadow Monk
He’s a ninja lol. Also in this AU I was thinking he & Gem would be siblings, so having him play an emotionally flat dark elf played nicely with what Gem goes with. Which…
Gem: Eladrin, Eldritch Knight Fighter
Gem had to be a fighter, that girl is a fighter through & through, but she’s definitely not playing a boring character. Eldritch Knight adds some magical flavour that goes well with her being an Eladrin. & she had to be an elf of some kind; I think she’d like the versatility & expressiveness of Eladrin.
Grian: Changeling, Pact of the Tome Warlock of the Archfey
Okay, I know this is probs controversial but hear me out. 1) Grian being a Warlock I think is just very in character. 2) Pact of the Tome lets him cast catrips from other classes & you unknowingly he’d get a kick outta that mechanic. 3) His patron is a homebrewed version of The Traveler, half way between 5e canon & Critical Role canon. Trickster vibes are real. 4) This dude has had so many skins. Changeling energy. (Also I just love changelings & Grian made the most sense to me.)
Impulse: Hill Dwarf, Forge Domain Cleric of Tharmekhûl
Another controversial one, but I’m not a fan of demon/tiefling/horned Impulse. & he legit has been a dwarf before. Hill dwarf because they get a Wisdom buff & that makes sense for Impulse. Cleric of Tharmekhûl because forge/light vibes & also he’s the god of smiths & that feels… like something Impulse would choose. (Impulse’s character is also min-max’d to hell. This man is going to win at D&D.)
Jimmy: Human, Oath of Glory Paladin of Tyr
Jimmy got overwhelmed by all the heritages & just went human for simplicity. He takes regular human rather than variant because he doesn’t want to learn all the feats & getting +1 to all stats is pretty good, right? Oath of Glory Paladin of Tyr because he really, really plays into being Lawful Good, & being The Law of the party.
Joel: Half-orc, Path of the Berserker Barbarian
Half-orc for being the closest I could get to an ogre. Path of the Berserker because he’s all about The Rage.
Lizzie: High Elf, School of Enchantment Wizard
Idk Lizzie just has big Wizard vibes to me, but like. Not the best wizard. Like she’s powerful, but rolls shit. She couldn’t get anyone to sleep in the Secret Life campaign because her DC is kinda low & everyone kept making their saves. (Except Joel. He failed his save on purpose. <3) High Elf for Queen Lizzie.
Martyn: Tiefling, Swashbuckler Fighter
Another natural fighter choice imo, but Swashbuckler for The Performance. Tiefling because he’s a bit impish & also so he can have Thaumaturgy to constantly scare everyone with monster/mob noises.
Mumbo: Rock Gnome, School of Evocation Wizard
I need to Mumbo to be a glass canon. School of Evocation Wizard does that so well. He can blow shit up so good, but he takes one hit & he’s out. Rock gnome because he just wanted to be a little guy & so he can be a Tinker.
Pearl: Wood Elf, Beastmaster Ranger
Beastmaster Ranger so she can have Tilly as an animal companion. Also more combat than magic focused, ‘cause that feels right? Elf because that’s her vibe, wood elf because it made sense for her build.
Ren: Werewolf Shifter (Doglike), Bannerette Fighter
Ren really wanted to be a fighter, but he put all his points in charisma RIP. So yeah, he’s the fighter class that does the least actual fighting lol. Doglike werewolf because of course.
Scar: Half-elf, Wild Magic Sorcerer/School of Eloquence Bard multiclass
His first few levels were in sorcerer, to reflect his absolutely bonkers all or nothing luck. School of Eloquence because he’s the type to talk his way out of most any situation he can. Also: Scar is 100% a charisma caster. (He still uses a longbow, don’t worry; he gets proficiency with it from being a half-elf.)
Scott: Fairy, Lunar Sorceror
I have changed my mind the most about Scott. Landed on Fairy, because the Vibes. Sorcerer because I felt he’d have innate magic, Lunar because it gives him access to a wide variety of spells that make sense for him. (Like Shield. He uses Shield all the time. Can’t hit this man, no sir.)
Skizz: Protector Aassimar, Path of the Ancestral Guardians Barbarian
He attac, he protec. & most importantly, he place high value on bonds between folks. So giving him Ancestral Guardians just… yeah.
Tango: Fire Genasi, Battlesmith Artificer
I don’t think I need to explain this much. His Steel Defender is an Iron Golem.
web!grian confronts salesa!scar for the old broken camera inside scar’s safe haven from the eyepocalypse
“Scar,” Grian says, “I want a divorce.”
Scar is draped over a beautiful cursed velvet couch, something of the Lonely’s, probably, his eyes half-lidded with sleep. He giggles.
“To what do I owe the pleasure, man whom I am not and never have been married to?”
“Well,” Grian says, fiddling with a knife between his palms, “I need that neat camera, is the thing.”
Scar cracks an eye open and stares at him. Suddenly, Grian blinks and Scar’s bouncing his camera between his hands, tossing it into the air and catching it again. “Well, I’m sure we can come to some sort of arrangement.”
“Really?” Grian leans over the couch, still twirling the intricate knife in his hands. “Because the way I see it, I could just stab you here and now.”
Scar ignores him. “Let’s see, what’s worth giving you this beautiful, state-of-the-art piece of technology…”
Grian frowns. A spider crawls up Scar’s chin. He doesn’t seem to notice. Grian drives the point of the knife into Scar’s stomach, just hard enough that it doesn’t fully submerge itself in his flesh but enough to draw blood through Scar’s thick vest. Scar winces, but doesn’t drop the camera. “Well, you’re not helping your chances of getting the camera from me, here.”
“Would it help if I turned into a giant spider monster and tried to eat you?” Grian scratches his cheek. He’s been itching to bust out the mandibles again, honestly, even if he’s not really going to eat Scar. He knows Scar’d taste terrible, and, well, spiders don’t eat people.
“Nah,” Scar says, “your real face is easier to talk to. And spiders don’t eat people.”
Grian bristles. “Maybe this one does.”
“It won’t.” He catches the camera again. “Now, back to this trade deal—“
“Oh, come off it. What could you offer me?”
“Companionship! Theatrics! We both know that I’m better at getting under Ren’s skin than you,” Scar says smoothly, as if there’s not a knife halfway in his abdomen. “I assume that’s what you need this for. So Martyn doesn’t see you stealing his precious assistant.”
Grian is quiet. Scar presses on.
“So, all I humbly ask is that you bring me with you!” Scar claps his hands, carelessly disregarding the already fragile camera still clasped between his palms. Grian winces as it makes a shuddering cracking noise. He’s not sure if the camera breaking more will help its eye-blocking properties, but Scar clearly doesn’t seem to care. “Take me to see those two off. It’ll be fun!”
Nowhere does Scar say that he’ll have to be kept safe along the way, neither does he specify he must be alive to do those things. Grian notices. Scar is still smiling wolfishly, and Grian suddenly understands how no fear has claimed this man. He’s his own patron, at this point, because he knows Grian won’t kill him, and he knows Grian doesn’t really want to lug his stupid corpse around and toss it into the hole at the end of reality. It would be highly inconvenient. It’s rare that Grian’s beaten at a game of words, even less so by a human, but whatever—Scar’s special like that. He doesn’t mind it so much if it’s Scar.
Scar looks up at him with big brown eyes. His pleading is completely insincere, but still annoyingly endearing. “Jellie would be so sad if you killed me here, Grian. Think of how painful her revenge would be.”
“She’d get over it.” Grian rolls his eyes. He knows Jellie is also a powerful avatar of the Web, but really she had other things to be doing than mourn her silly pet human. Jellie might actually be Scar’s only tie to any of the many, many entities Scar had poked over his years of peddling their horrors.
“Would you get over it?”
“No,” Grian admits, and leaves it at that.
And, theoretically, if Grian can just nudge the strings of reality slightly so that the camera tipsinto his hands, he doesn’t acknowledge it. Instead, he nods, sighs a long-suffering sigh, and removes the knife from Scar’s stomach.
“Fine,” he says, “you can come with me.”
Scar cheers. “Get me my chair! I have to get ready—we have to look presentable for the Archivist and his companion, Grian, please tell me you’re not going in that.”
Grian looks offended. “Of course not. What do you take me for, an amateur?”
I realize that maybe I should explain some of my thoughts with the anon ask I sent abt Scott not being able to swim and that mini-story... (also, yes, I'm the seawater au anon tho you probably figured aslhdbaljksd)
I love playing with sorta the same concept but in different scenarios. so:
Scott is LimLife!Scott reincarnated and has always had a calling for the sea. He always took it as something normal since he is a Denholm, a pirate. His parents knows that something in the sea wants Scott and denies whatever that wants him their son. They know that the thing will know where Scott is if he's in water too long (lakes will lead to the sea/ocean and thus are not safe either) and forbids him to be in water. He doesn't think much of it as it's always been that way. (if he decides to listen to the ocean and take a breath, he will get gills on the side of his torso)
In this story it's not as strict with helping between the factions, tho dating between them might still be a bit eyebrow raising. So Scott and Sausage are not very loud about their relationship, but Sausage really wants to. I mean, not only is Scott his lovely boyfriend, but he also succeeded in charming a Denholm. And as a Kestral, he do want to show off his loveliest treasure. But things are as they are right now.
Martyn is LimLife!Martyn. Instead of wandering the land, he stayed under water and has been for many, many years, waiting for either his own punishment for winning the game or maybe meeting one of his loves again. And when Scott touches water, he knows where he is. So he travels to Faction Isle and pretends to be human for the first time in a long time in order to look for Scott.
It's just a bit awkward trying to romance your old love while he's dating someone else and not really remembering you and trying to remember how to be human and use normal stuff, like, uteniles
(let's call this au..... um... uuuuuuuhhhhhh... ok I suck at names. first thought was "under water" sadljkbasdjkb)
i am always a slut for inter-faction romance. i'm a slut for intra-faction romance too but there's something so funny about everyone else in your faction Knowing what you're up to. guqqie and scott sneaking past each other in the middle of the night like i won't snitch if you don't, have fun
sausage would absolutely wish he could be open and proud about his catch though. he'd be like but you're soooo pretty and valuable and everyone i know would be so jealous and scott is like ah but u see. my mum would explode me. so you need to shut the fuck up xoxo. and sausage is like awwwww okayyyyyy but he still enjoys seeing how much he can get away with in public
martyn though is very much a wildcard in this situation. he's new in town, he's factionless, he's got the scrappiness of a kite but the eye for treasure of a kestrel, and he seems to make fastest friends with owen, el, and water. which means scott is suddenly seeing a lot of him. he also appears to get on perfectly well with cleo, having plenty of banter with them, but there's kind of an artificiality to it that scott can sense even if he can't tell why. same goes for scar, if they're hanging out cross-faction.
it also goes for scott, though, arguably more than the others; while he's friendly and charming and instantly intriguing to scott, there's this weird sense of a glass wall that he can't shake. maybe it's just jealousy - it does always seem that martyn gets a little frostier when sausage sneaks an arm around scott's waist in the middle of a conversation.
martyn reminds scott of the ocean. here's something so close, something he's able to interact with, but never quite reach out and touch.
only he did touch the ocean, didn't he? and it ended dangerously. he'd do well to never swim again, he knows. martyn might just be the same.
scott has always been good at resisting temptation; had to be to make his parents happy, had to stick to the approved path. but this?
this is gonna test him.
Shroom anon back to interrogate again >:3 if you don’t want to answer any of the questions feel free to skip them <3
A) do you watch double life smp? If so who’s pov do you watch and who do you think will win?
B) have you ever had someone ghost you irl because you watch mcyt/write fanfic?
C) if you could interview any c!dsmp member who would it be and what would the first question you’d ask be?
D) what made you start to kin c!tommy?
E) who’s your favorite content creator? Doesn’t have to be an mcyt!
Hehe ty for putting up with my nosey questions ^^
-🍄
hi shroom anon!! i love your questions they're very fun to answer!
a) yes I do watch double life! i'm keeping up with scar's POV, but I do hop around between other POV's to see funny moments i hear about on tumblr (like I've skimmed through bdubs' stuff a bit and some of scott and pearl's as well). now as for who I think will win?? I'm really not sure, but tbh I could see martyn and cleo actually getting far?? idk why i just feel like they have a pretty solid shot. either them or impulse and bdubs. i'd love for the perfect soulmate couple living out their domestic bliss dreams to be the final two at the end
b) I'm extremely careful with who I tell irl about the fact that i write mcyt fanfic. technically, there's 6 people who know, but 2 of them i met online bc of my fics first and only later figured out we went to the same uni (yes, that happened twice), 1 reader approached me irl bc we were in a creative writing class together and they recognized my worldbuilding bc i used the same concept of someone else's dream but with original characters for a workshop piece lmao, and 1 person i figured out was into mcyt while we were chatting and I gave her my twitter so she knows but we haven't hung out much since that one day. so the 2 left are the only people i've told on my own, one of them being a really close friend of mine who already knew i wrote fanfic, and she definitely teases me that i got 'fandom famous' for writing minecraft fic, but she's not mean about it. the other person is a guy i was kind of dating for a bit who is literally the chillest and nicest human being i think i've ever met, i never intended on telling him but he's just so genuinely non-judgemental about other peoples interests so I told him and he thought it was very cool. so no I've never had anyone ghost me bc I only tell people who I know aren't going to care lmao
c) oh man that's a tough question hm... this is gonna sound weird since i'm a c!wilbur main but i think i'd interview c!techno?? pretty much just to be like "sir are you aware you're not really an anarchist" and also just call him out on some of the shit he's done lol (don't get me wrong, I really enjoy c!techno as a character and a lot of what he's done is justified, but I definitely have so many questions for him about his thought process for certain things he's done)
d) i don't kin characters tbh?? and I definitely don't kin c!tommy lol. nothing against it, but I'm just very strange in that I really don't see myself in a lot of fictional characters. I can project onto them, but that doesn't necessarily mean I heavily relate to them or anything
e) well my favorite content creator is pretty obviously wilbur soot, but if we're not talking mcyt then it would definitely be mina le. she's a video essayist on youtube who i absolutely adore. she talks about things like fashion history, the subcultures of fashion, and also discusses pop culture a lot in really interesting ways. I've watched pretty much every single video on her youtube channel and I get so hyped every time she uploads
Currently have a bit of Last Life brainrot with the final showdown between Scott and Ren. Mostly with the concept of Ren being in his full werewolf form as he fights Scott. When Ren finally died he had so many arrows in him... Really shows how much strength and skill it takes to take down a full grown werewolf on the night of a full moon, huh? (Possibly a blood moon, if we wanna get dramatic lol) Killing Martyn was a walk in the park compared to taking out Ren... Maybe thats why he left him as the final kill and let Ren take out Pearl. Whether it be fear of what he'd face (given how he literally witnessed Skizz getting ripped to shreds), or waiting and seeing how tired Ren would be after the battles, Scott definitely pulled some moves that ultimately saved him in the end.
🐺
God what good brainrot to have alksdfjaksd. TBH when Ren's final episode came out and I saw how much he tanked I thought the exact same thing.
[Also there's a bit of a fic drabble under the cut because this got me thinking about Scott and Ren's showdown alskdfaskl].
Scott knows a bit about the supernatural. He's been in many SMPs where magic was a big player - though to be honest he would much prefer being in one of them now, instead of this one. At least with a blood moon risen, he might have some magic of his own. That's not how Last Life works, of course. The magic of Last Life - if you can call it that - is only good for one thing: making what you are, who you are, monstrous. And Scott? Scott is, for the most part, human. He's cunning. He's skilled. He's a quick thinker. But Scott is human. His cunning is a little more deadly, his thoughts a little more cruel, but the blood moon on the final night of Last Life doesn't make him monstrous. Him and Martyn have something in common that way. Martyn. And perhaps that's why he's so easy to dispatch in the end. Martyn is like him - he's scared, he's only as deadly as his next knee-jerk reaction. The arrow that kills him is almost an accident, fired half-drawn, half-between the observation that Martyn has placed an end crystal and that Scott himself is just out of range.
Pearl, Scott was scared of Pearl, a little. She favored him - he'd made sure of that. He'd kept his alliances as long as he could, even while the blood moon was rising. Even while Pearl seemed to reflect it more and more. Eyes red, demeaner charged. Fearless. When she'd taken Martyn's yellow life she'd done it laughing, and mocking. It was terrifying. Scott wasn't quite sure what Pearl was, outside of not human. He was lucky then, that Ren attacked her first. Lucky, but he wished she'd won.
Ren also wasn't human. Scott had caught a glimpse of it when he and Cleo had gone to rescue Ren from Skizz and Impulse. He'd caught a glimpse of sharp teeth, crushing jaws, a looming shadow - though he had noticed long before then that sometimes Ren's eyes caught in the light, reflecting in the way a human's eyes did not. He'd caught a glimpse when Ren had torn Skizz apart, and then he'd been normal so quickly. He had a disarming smile, a nervous disposition, but when he walked his footprints were a little deeper than you'd expect from someone of his size. It seemed to Scott as the world of Last Life ran it's course, that Ren seemed like there was always something underneath his skin waiting to burst and break free.
When they had gone to stand on the four corners of the map for the final battle, when the sun was high and bright, and Joel and Grian's blood was still drying in the grass, Ren had been human. Well - he had looked human. What sank fangs deep into Pearl's throat, what sent her wolves wailing and whining and cowering in it's wake, what rose with the blood moon, that wasn't human.
The habit of the magic of Last Life was to make things monstrous, to inspire fear. And yet, Scott got the distinct impression that Ren was always a monster. When those eyes, red in reflected moonlight turned to Scott, when that body bristled and the mouth snarled, it did so with all the power and ferocity of something quite at home in its body. Not with the nervous awkwardness of a person given great power they weren't used to. It struck Scott now as he stood, bow half-drawn, that maybe Ren's nervous disposition was because he felt foreign in his human skin, and maybe this better reflected what he was used to being. In the cut-time of adrenaline, that made the most sense to him.
Scott knows a bit about the supernatural. But he would be the first to admit he'd never really had to deal with a werewolf before. He could count it as bad luck that his first dealing with one was in Last Life.
Scott fired his bow and ran off into the woods.
Humans and wolves had a complicated history. They domesticated each other. They made war with each other. In a world where humans tamed the wilderness through endurance, by pursuing a dying animal slowly until it fell, wolves were the only creature in the world that managed to keep up. It made sense then, that humans and werewolves were equally oddwise and complicated. Werewolves were a curse and a boon. They were at times bloodthirsty, a curse that carved itself through villages and townships, at others sagely advice-givers, masters of the woods, a helping hand. Scott had fooled himself into thinking Ren was the latter, leaning on his ferocity only when he had to. He was friendly, accommodating, a weredog maybe, if he was were-anything and not just a friendly guy with an enjoyment of dramatic roleplay. The Ren chasing him through the woods now certainly a wolf, the ravenous kind, the fairytale I-ate-the-entire-village-and-still-had-time-to-slaughter-the-sheep-for-fun kind. But Ren was wounded, and Scott was not, and he needed to keep it that way. He'd taken several shots at Ren over the course of the fight, though Ren had always gotten away. Pearl wasn't human, she was a fierce nightmarish creature, and she had done a number on him as well, before she'd died. Martyn had tried to as well, but Ren was too quick for him, his reflexes too sharp when he was cloaked in fur. Too fast. Too fast.
Ren pounced on him through the trees - when had he gotten in front of him? - and it was only quick reflexes that had Scott pulling his bow back and firing an arrow between the two of them. It sunk up to the fletching in Ren's shoulder, and the monster didn't slow. But he did stumble, and Scott fired three more shots in the time it took Ren to scrabble his claws in the grass and lunge again for him. All three arrows hit, and Ren kept moving.
When Martyn had died, he had dropped a weakness potion and half a stack of arrows. Scott shoved his hand in his pack and reached for both in the same motion he dove around a tree away from Ren's claws. Werewolves were faster that humans. Werewolves were stronger. If the number of wounds matting Ren's fur with blood was any indication, werewolves just had more vitality in general. This was maybe a fight he shouldn't have saved for last. He maybe shouldn't have dragged his feet so much when he went to Pearl's aid. Taken a few seconds to aim better instead of hitting all the wrong wolves. At least against Pearl, Scott would have been fighting a familiar face.
Ren's teeth leaped out for Scott from the darkness, and Scott smashed the weakness potion in his face. Ren howled, scrubbed the broken glass away with the back of a massive clawed hand and turned to Scott snarling; only mildly inconvenienced by the same black ichor that Scott had seen bring warriors to their knees. Scott let out a withering sigh and pulled back his bow, knees bent, ready to run away again, "Just die, Ren."
The werewolf flashed him something that was probably a grin, though it was mostly just teeth. It occurred to Scott that maybe Ren was fully aware of how scary he looked, and took some amusement in how disheveled Scott was in comparison.
Last Life was a game for monsters, but Scott was human. He had at his disposal only the things that had kept humans alive for so long as they had been - he made friends, he was cunning, and he endured. As he loosed his next arrow, as Ren lunged for him again, he decided he would endure this too. It was the only thing being human was good for.
i’m here to ramble about my fantasy last life smp au bc… reasons. i want to write it but don’t have the energy so instead… rambling!
so have basics… like what most people are and the basic storyline. pls give me validation and ideas, i desire it
so basically, fantasy au. it’s a whole human hunters vs fantasy creatures sort of thing. also there’s gods and a bad fallen god. mostly, the non-humans are good and accepting, but not towards humans. they see them all as a threat and will at least injure on sight.
the hunters seek to kill all the non-humans in order to be the only ones remaining and to get more powerful from the ones they can harvest magical organs from.
however, the non-humans are being protected by the gods. so, the humans went prayed to the fallen god to help them defeat the gods. the fallen god, angry at being exiled, gives a few hunters the power to track down and kill gods
hundreds of years later, only a few survive. now, the magical beings have to join up and figure out how to defeat the fallen god
now, what everyone is!
jimmy, grian, mumbo, and scar are the main guys
jimmy: unknown but very powerful
grian: dragon hybrid
mumbo: cat (yes, a literal cat. not even a shifter. he claims he was cursed)
scar: werewolf
and some of the others that appear!
bdubs: nature spirit
etho: vampire
tango: dark elf
skiz: demon
martyn: elf
ren: werewolf
pearl: necromancer
cleo: zombie
impulse: elf
bigb: elf
joel: wizard
lizzie: goddess of the ocean
scott: god of the sky
and that’s them all!
now for some… headcanons? technically it’s my au so they’re like… canon ig
headcanons!
- etho is incredibly young. he’s only been a vampire for four years, and his group (all of them being 100+) tease him about endlessly. they act like he’s only four years old, and make jokes about it
- if bdubs doesn’t like some new member of their party, he will simply dare them to eat a poisonous berry or mushroom. the rest of the group of very tired of this but don’t want to object out of fear of being fed poison stew
- tango just… casually brings up trauma from his past. the others are like “you good bud?” and he’s just like “… no :(” poor guy
- ren and martyn took lizzie in under their protection the moment they saw her. for ren, it was out of respect. for martyn, it was out of fear
- grian can’t be in cold temperatures. he’s basically a lizard, pls keep him warm at all times
- scott and phil (a wizard) are old friends, and scott introduced phil to kristin (the goddess of death)
- phil’s coven is just him, joel, wilbur, and the bench trio (who cause so much chaos)
- cleo has a habit of making no noise when approaching people, so she ends up accidentally scaring so many people
- so many people have angst pasts. meanwhile, jimmy doesn’t know shit and has weird dreams
- jimmy, after finding out he’s the main character: hahaha… fuck
- also whenever jimmy learns something new about himself he’s just all :0
- jimmy is called timmy by his group. and he knows something is wrong whenever they call him jimmy
- whenever mumbo is being a pain or stubborn they just… grab him by the scruff of his neck
- whenever they’re traveling, scar is almost always in his wolf form. he got injured in his human form and it didn’t heal properly, which ends up hurting when he travels. however, his wolf form is completely fine, so he travels via wolf form. he will be in his human form if he’s just chilling with friends though
- they call jimmy a fish a lot. but also he eats fish and feels no remorse. he will go out of his way to kill every salmon he sees
- mumbo is just a lil cat. idk i think some 6+ foot tall man a smol cat is funny
- mumbo is a white cat with like black spots. like his ears and tail. also spots under his nose that look like a mustache lol
- mumbo often either rides around on scar’s back of grian’s shoulder
- most of the hunters are dsmp memebers. why? cause angst and also i be running out of smp characters
- also there will probs be hermit and empires members
- the four are trying to save the world but they’re very bad at it and two of them are animals and the two humanoids have only one braincell. the world is fucked
Accident
The first bit is based on the picture broken-risk-assessment-module drew on Discord. The rest is just me having a moment’s fun. I doubt this is going anywhere, but it was fun to write.
I walked into the crew lounge to find Amena on the floor, her arms splayed out like she had perhaps fallen. A quick review of the camera feeds suggested the young human had done this on purpose, but that didn’t explain her behavior in the slightest.
She’s giving me a hug, ART told me over the feed, sounding exactly like a proud parent.
I spent way too many processing cycles parsing the statement. “Amena, ART isn’t in the floor.”
“I know that.” The teenager sat up and shrugged. “But I wanted to say goodbye. In case we don’t see each other for a while.”
Aren’t young humans great?
Then she eyed the small drone in my arms. “Hey, what’s that?”
It was my turn to shrug. “One of ART’s. It flew into a wall and broke a repair arm.”
“OK, but why are you holding it like that?” Amena screwed up her face in some expression I couldn’t interpret.
“Like what?”
“Like it’s a pet or something.”
I was cradling the slightly clicking drone; I guess because I didn’t want to break it any further. There always also almost nothing ART couldn’t eventually fix, but that didn’t mean I wanted to add to the distraction.
“No reason.”
“Also, why did ART fly a drone into a wall?” Amena looked toward a camera. “ART? Are you OK?”
Absolutely fine, the transport reassured her. The drone malfunctioned during its latest deployment.
I could count the number of times something of ART’s malfunctioned on one hand — barring the horrible experience with the alien remnants. Still, the drone was doing all right now. I pulled its logs and, other than the broken appendage, it was reporting normal operation.
“I’ll take it to engineering and see if Ratthi can fix it.”
Amena finally got up off the floor. “I’ll go with you.”
Being followed by a human wasn’t my idea of a good time, but after everything that happened, I minded a little less. Of all the humans I knew, Amena wasn’t the worst — not even close. Even if I only counted Preservation and ART’s crew, all of whom were definitely in the top twenty.
Thiago was still at the bottom of the list.
“I was talking to Second Mom,” the human said as we walked down a corridor, “and I told her I was looking at ART’s university. I’ve never been to New Tidelands, but it sounds like a great place to study.”
Are you planning on attending? If ART was a person, it would be grinning.
“Maybe, hopefully. Separate polities make things a little paperwork intense, but Mom didn’t see any reason why I couldn’t.” Amena was excited but trying to tamper it.
We’d made it practically to the engineering bridge when ART’s alarm system went off. Lights flickered a few times before the corridor plunged into near-total darkness. Emergency lighting along the floor cast everything in an eerie glow.
Amena lunged for me and grabbed my arm, then pulled away. “Sorry, SecUnit.”
I reached over and took her hand, navigated to my belt. “Hold there. Step carefully.”
My drones were already in the air and scouting the hall on either side of us. ART?
It responded via the drone in my arms. The higher layers of the feed are completely shot. I’m cut off from most of my modules.
“What happened?” the human wanted to know.
Perhaps a disruptor pulse. I have 0.03 seconds of input after the event and then nothing. And even that’s too much data for me to parse. ART’s frustration bled into the mesh-feed between us.
“We need to get to the bridge.” I slowly turned and tugged on Amena’s arm so she could easily follow.
The lights stayed off as we walked through the silent halls. The silence worried me because it meant the air circulation systems were no longer functional, which meant our time was limited. Amena’s more than mine. But there were nine other humans aboard the transport, not counting the two of us.
I sent my drones as far forward as I could, trying to pick up life signs. Beside me, the human whimpered a few times and then took several deep, steadying breaths. “OK, let’s see. Iris was with Martyn, adjusting the communications array. I don’t know about Seth or Kaede, but everyone else was scheduled for a sleep cycle.
I don’t think life support systems are functioning, I told ART.
Backups should’ve kicked in by now, it confirmed. We need to deal with that first. Wow, is this what it feels like to be you.
I wasn’t sure whether or not to feel insulted. ART, now is not the time. Which way to life support from here?
Left to the end of the hall, and there should be a ladder down to the right level.
I frowned because that didn’t sound like the confident ART I knew. “Amena, we’re going to go down to the life support module. Hold on to me and be careful.”
“It’s so dark.” The young human shuddered. “SecUnit… I…” I heard her swallow whatever she planned to say. “All right, I’m right behind you.”
